Kinda random, but what made me really start shipping Kataang was how determined Aang was to get Katara's necklace back from Zuko, especially when we know how important said necklace is for her both as part of her family and part of her culture. And the thing is, Aang is always doing nice things for Katara without expecting any reward, like offering to fly her to the North Pole and refusing to train under sexist Pakku. Things that made me go from "this is a cute ship with good development" to "this is my OTP."💙🧡

So true, anon that’s a great scene!! Hmm I don’t know what made me ship it cuz I was 5 when I watched it for the first time so I really didn’t care about ships. But as I got older I started watching the show for Katara and she kept touching him and asking him how she looked dhdjfj it was beyond obvious TO ME (bass amplified).

That and every time she cried over him. It just felt really intense I’d be like why are you crying queen 😫😫😫 she’s so extra I can’t.

But I think a singular scene that really made me ship them was in The Serpent’s Pass when he said she made him believe in hope and she cried. When I think about it, Aang’s opinion seems to mean a lot to Katara and I think he notices that and makes sure to praise her so she won’t doubt herself. I liked seeing the fmc be praised and loved by the boy she liked without having to grovel and look pathetic, you know?

That reminds me of a meta I read the other day about how Sokka (yes I have to mention sokka or katara when I talk about the other 🤪) doesn’t really take compliments and I think Katara is also like that in a less extreme way.

Like when she tried to discredit herself when she revived him with the spirit water and Aang was like hello you literally saved my life??? dhdjdj I don’t care what delusional fanon shippers have to say, Aang compliments and appreciates Katara more than anyone, and that’s my fave part of their dynamic.

Anyways yes I agree with you. Aang always does what Katara wants simply because he wants to and she wants to. They don’t really force the other to agree with them either, even tho they both clearly care a lot for each other’s opinions. I think the show does a great job of setting the foundation for their romantic relationship this way through all these platonic moments.

Back to my fave scene in the Serpent’s Pass, I especially like how that scene shows Aang letting go of one of his beliefs for Katara which is linked to bigger moment of him refusing to let go of her to master the avatar state in the Guru, and eventually finding a whole new way to end the war while still staying true to himself. I don’t wanna say Aang and Katara getting together is integral to his arc or her arc, but I do think they link it in this way on purpose, and it’s why a lot of people that claim “Aang never changed” often don’t ship Kataang and the same for people that hate Katara and call her annoying then say they didn’t understand the ship. Like clearly my guy.

Anyway, to sum up this ramble 🤭 this is why I love the Serpent’s Pass scene and think it’s very underrated among kataang fans. I’m curious to know what kataang scene made oomfs ship too? I loved this ask and thank you for sharing that with me anon xx

Oh my dear AnnTickwittee, THANK YOU for this ask. There are a bunch of great ones out there but here are some I've loved recently! Also, everyone PLEASE feel free to leave more recs in comments or reblogs or tags! I LOVE a good fic!

Weirdly, most of my faves were written before S2 premiered - PLEASE recommend me some good S2 stuff, and ones you'd consider staples in the GO fandom - I've missed out on a LOT of great content - help me find it/catch up! (Note: All fics listed below are COMPLETE and feature happy endings.)

Summary: AU, retelling of “Beauty and the Beast”. Quite honestly, sending Aziraphale off into the forest to be held hostage by a giant snake in a cursed castle isn’t even the worst thing Gabriel’s ever done to him, and at least it means a change of scene. But then neither the snake nor the castle turn out to be quite what he’s expecting…

My Review: Fave fave FAVE at the moment! I discovered this one from this tiktok, fully thinking it was going to be a silly little romp and was instead met with beautiful prose, adorable banter, and moments that literally made me go "AWW" out loud (which I NEVER do). I meant to read a few chapters per night before bed and then accidentally read the whole thing in one go. I stayed up until 4am reading and then woke up 4 hours later STILL thinking about it. Aziraphale is the perfect lead in this one, with Crowley as the wily yet lovable snake that lives in a cursed/enchanted castle with some familiar faces. CLASSIC pining ensues. The author does a great job of world building and character development and I find myself wishing I could read it again with fresh eyes. It's beautiful and adorable and I can't recommend it enough. Favorite quote: "'I love him,' he said. 'Let me in.' And the gates swung open before him."

Summary: In good weather, one can see the lighthouse at the Rock from the shore: a dot on the horizon, a distant star flashing red and white and red again. It’s been dark for a fortnight, of course—ever since the incident that every newspaper had breathlessly written about, that the paper-boys on the corners had shouted themselves hoarse over. This is where Aziraphale is headed: it is his duty, after all, to find out what happened, to make sure that the beacon can be safely lit once again. He does not expect Crowley to follow him to the windswept isle, to the lonely lighthouse at what could just as well be the edge of the world. Crowley follows him anyway.

My Review: THIS ONE! This one is a good old fashioned mystery! The humans believe this lighthouse is haunted, especially since its last three keepers vanished without a trace, but Aziraphale and Crowley know that can't possibly be the case. As such, they decide to investigate for themselves. It's an adorable slow burn period piece that had me weeping at certain points with twists and turns abound, and I really liked how the author handled the mystery and lore! Deep lore is tough to do convincingly and I found myself believing everything the author said. I can't tell you how thrilled I was when I KIND OF clocked what the author was going for with their mystery. Their explanation for everything was far better than anything my monkey brain could have come up with. Also that S2 ep of OFMD that featured a lighthouse in the beginning came out after I read this fic and I got all giddy thinking about Aziracrow here. I literally don't think I'll ever see a lighthouse again and not think of this gorgeous fic. EDIT: Also, here's a YouTube video that appeared in my recommended shortly after I read this. It's super interesting that disappearances like this have happened in real life 😱

Summary: Two months after the failed apocalypse Aziraphale finds the first dark feather growing in his wings. A story about middle grounds, ineffable plans, and what happens when the world doesn't end.

My Review: Another fic I found on Tiktok. The edit itself was so gorgeous I decided to give it a go and was not disappointed. It was written before S2 was even announced so it takes some liberties with fanon (Crowley was Raphael in the canon of this world, etc), but it's a lovely, relatively quick read. Crowley and Aziraphale are on their own side, finally, and soon, others join their ranks. All while God watches from afar. The prose is beautiful and I come back to the tiktok all the time (I saved it onto my phone lol). It was also fun to go back and rewatch the tiktok after reading and realize that the editor stitched together parts from each chapter into something new and amazing. It's not a romantic fic, not in the way the others are; it cares more about the aftermath of an apocalypse and shades of gray and how the universe came to be in the first place. I love the POV of God reminiscing on creation and thought it was very well written. Absolutely loved this one! (@anntickwittee, this was the fic I was referring to in the tags of this post, which is probably what prompted you to leave this ask in the first place! 😊)

Summary: When Crowley drops a bomb on a church, Aziraphale falls in love with him. This should be a secret, but unfortunately, Aziraphale's never been much good at keeping them.

My Review: A one-shot expanding on the 1941 minisode (2019) BEFORE the S2 minisode canonically expanded on it. Recap: Aziraphale's just realized he's in love with Crowley (thank you Michael Sheen for that AMAZING acting choice) and this fic is the author's interpretation of what might have happened after the show cut away from the burning church. I was floored by how many parallels made it from this fic into the actual show both directly and indirectly (Aziraphale says "Not as such" at one point and I'm pretty sure I burst into tears and/or yelped loudly). It's got a good bit of angst to it, the same kind from S2 that makes you scream "WHAT ARE YOU DOING! HE'S RIGHT THERE!" with a happy ending that helped heal my shattered heart. I definitely cried reading this one (affectionate). It's extremely fluffy at the end which EYE LOVE, so if that's your thing, I highly recommend! Favorite Quote: "'I’m afraid I’m quite terribly in love with you,' Aziraphale said unceremoniously. Crowley, who had been in the process of sitting up, promptly fell off the sofa."

Summary: After Aziraphale goes back to Heaven with the Metatron, Crowley reflects. And 4,400 years ago in 2407 BC, in the city of Uruk in ancient Sumer, he and Aziraphale fall in love with humanity, and each other. - “What are you doing here?” asked Aziraphale. Crowley lifted an eyebrow and felt himself start to smile. “I should ask you the same. What are you thinking, coming here with your wings out and the blessed light of Heaven raining down upon you? You’re scaring the mortals.” Aziraphale blushed. Crowley dutifully looked away. It felt disrespectful not to.

My Review: This one-shot is a love letter to history and humanity. I think I found it on twitter? Unfortunately I don't have a link to the tweet or the author's tumblr. What I really love about this one is that the author adds footnotes like the original Good Omens book does. You can absolutely feel the love and care that went into writing and researching for this particular fic, which I can really appreciate as a fellow writer. (For all my Bildad the Shuhite stans out there, this story takes place after, but the vibes are VERY SIMILAR. If you even care.) Crowley and Aziraphale are in Uruk to keep an eye on the humans as they try to build a structure tall enough to reach God (the Tower of Babel). Theoretically, they can both return to their respective sides, but opt to stay on earth (with each other) for 10 years to watch the construction unfold. Pining ensues, NSFW ensues, and as the author puts it, "now featuring Aziraphale as a little country girl tending her sheep ♥" I highly recommend if you want to be sucked into another time period/biblical story and feel MANY different feelings (with a happy ending!)

⛷️ Historians by @oknowkiss (E, 30k) - fake dating goodness with holiday vibes, the right amount of angsty pining and a gorgeous Swiss background. Just what I needed to cheer me up on a snowy day

It’s the Dumbledore’s Army Reunion Holiday, and Harry’s found himself in hot water with his friends once again, after telling them he has a boyfriend he definitely does not have. In an attempt to fix things, he’s made it his colleague on Level Nine, Draco Malfoy’s problem too. Featuring a ski chalet in Switzerland, a pair of bunk beds, and an agreement that should’ve been simple, were it not for all the bloody feelings getting in the way.

🏉 All Things Go by @sorrybutblog (E, 32k) - an enchanting 8th year romance with strong Heartstopper vibes👨‍🍳💋 our boys are so wonderfully awkward and young and lovely, my heart is melting! And the scorching UST? Superb

Draco’s back at Hogwarts by court order. Harry’s back for no particular reason at all. Some things change, some stay the same. Neither expects to spend eighth-year living in close quarters, playing rugby (poorly), staying up late, sneaking around, and finally figuring it all out.

⏳Everything is Relative to You by @thehoneybeet (E, 43k) - really brilliant take on time travel/multiverse, inventive concept exploring star-crossed lovers dynamics. It’s about the yearning!!!

Potter was supposed to have lived. Draco is certain of this. That Potter would no longer walk the earth was tantamount to the sun moving west to east across the sky. If only he could have stopped this from happening, if he’d have known… It comes to him as ideas often did: too late.

Valentines with the boys|Obey me

This is largely innocent with some suggestive themes at the end of each if you are inclined to imagine them that way. Mainly just some cute ideas I came up with for each of the brothers on how they would treat MC on valentine's day~

Lucifer

100% buy you a sexy red dress and tell you he will pick you up at 8pm "I expect to see you wearing that"

He swings round in his fancy black car with tinted windows and takes you to a real fancy resturant

Most of the evening is spent with him eyeing you up with a glass of red wine swirling in his hands

He takes you back to a glamorous hotel. The room is decorated with heart balloons and rose petals (he totally didn't request this, The brothers had found out what hotel he had booked and wanted to play a prank on him)

He opens the door to the room and freaks out, making a mental note to punish his brothers later for this.

But then looks over at your smiling face. He can't bare to have his pride take a hit, so he pretends this is all planned

Absolutely the hottest night of your life

Mammon

Stumbles into your room early with a mountain of gifts. He wanted to be the first one to give you anything.

Spends the whole day pretending he hates valentine's day

Takes you to the fun fair where you play tonnes of games (hook the devil, shoot the devil etc..) and he wins you the jackpot prize

You kiss at the top of the Ferris wheel as he heard a legend that says whoever you kiss at the top would be lovers for eternity...not that he believes it right?

At the end of the night he gifts you a necklace with his name, just so everyone knows you belong to him

He takes you to a look out spot over the city and you spend the night tangled in each others arms.

Gets you some very limited edition merch from your fave game

Wants to spend the day recreating his favourite valentine's day event from one of his otome games (but doesn't tell you that's where the ideas came from)

He takes you to the aquarium

Holds you hands and blushes at your excitement at all the cute fishes

Obligatory selfie in the water tunnel, where you kiss him on the cheek and he turns into a stuttering mess

Buys you a sea serpent plush at the gift shop

Both get the bus back, and you lean on his shoulder the whole ride home

I want to be able to create one of those mini libraries and put them around the city I live in, and I was thinking of putting in a wide range of queer books for kids and preteens. What would you recommend?

Oh, I love this! For preteens I'm a big fan of Kacen Callender, Ash Van Otterloo, and Lisa Bunker, and I think anthologies are a great idea for introducing readers to a lot of authors at once, so both This is Our Rainbow ed. by Katherine Locke and Nicole Melleby and All Out ed. by Saundra Mitchell (which is YA) are great choices. And since there are undoubtedly some Rick Riordan fans in the mix, I gotta mention The Sun and the Star, which he coauthored with Mark Oshiro. Actually, Mark Oshiro's The Insiders, too.

fall out boy show in boston last night was so good i was so happy to be there. the openers were SO GOOD AS WELL?? i never rlly listened to royal and the serpent before but she put on a good fucking performance i can’t lie. four year strong made me really happy i love their songs for ages :) plus they’re from massachusetts just like me!!! and BRING ME THE HORIZON WAS SO FUCKING GOOD?? amazing performance even though some of their music isn’t my fave haha. almost cried during fall out boy bc they played TWO MAGIC 8 BALLS AND IT HAPPENED TO BE MY FAVE TWO FOB SONGS😭😭😭 GINASFS AND XO OH MY GODDD SO GOOD I LOVE TOURDUST

i am exhausted and going to sleep, however: here is a recap of the tour dust show from my extremely disabled perspective

it took us a very long time to get from the parking lot to our seats. when i sat down on the lawn, crying about how i couldn't make it the rest of the way to our seats, a stranger approached and asked if i needed help. she then helped devot support me on a walk down the lawn towards the seating areas. i did not see her again but i will think about her for the rest of my life

i did not know any songs by daisy grenade or bring me the horizon, and only one by royal & the serpent. but i loved their energy, each band was very fun onstage (especially r&ts)

fall out boy showed up and i was ecstatic! i stood up and sang along at the top of my lungs! however i quickly discovered that the sloped pavement under the seats was making the condition of my legs deteriorate FAST. i had to sit down before pete even started talking for the first time. i would have to sit several more times, and though i tried to wait for pete to talk, sometimes i just had to sing along while sitting down.

the show went on for 2 hours. the stage setup was whimsical and fun, pete and patrick were dancing and running around, and pete's interludes to speak to the crowd were very charming and funny. joe and andy didn't really do anything outside of play their respective instruments, but both were very impressive anyway (when i could even see them, fuck you tall guy in front of me)

roughly 6 or maybe more songs before the end of the show, i realized i was reaching my limit. we were out of water, my legs were trembling, and i could no longer muster up the energy to sing. they played several songs i LOVE around that time, but i was falling apart, and fast. i didn't get up unless people were trying to get by me. i also started crying (bad idea when you are thirsty and out of water)

i did my best to go unseen bc like, there was nothing that could be done. i was boxed in on all sides, barely able to walk even if i wasn't, and there was no way getting a new bottle of water would be doable at that hour and crowd density. i didn't want to ruin anyone else's experience (especially devot's)

i mean, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. a concert for my fave band! and i was too broken to enjoy part of it. devot realized i was at my limit and comforted me until the show ended, and then we waited for people to filter out before making our way back out of the venue.

we went out a different exit than we'd came in, got confused, and i had to sit down at some cafe while devot hunted for our car. (it was like, down the street, but neither of us realized it was that close)

we drove the hour back home and now everything is back to normal!

i really enjoyed the show, in spite of... my physical state, lmao. i knew it would be hard, it's just not easy to know how hard until it's happening. pete stopped the show right as a song was starting bc a fight broke out, and later he made sure a kid somewhere in the pit got some water. despite me dying of thirst much farther away at the same time, there was something comforting about the idea that if pete wentz knew i was suffering, he'd have made sure i was okay before playing more music.

anyway, it was a learning experience. i know what to do differently next time. we did at least remember sunscreen, and i KNOW i'd be burnt to a crisp if we hadn't. it was a very sunny day...

all in all, i don't regret it, and did have fun. i really need to try and strengthen my muscles before we go to any other shows, though...

Assigning AF Characters Bakugan- Part 1

(alas, this will need to be multiple parts due to image limits- please bear with me)

Artemis:

Darkus Pharol: Pretty straightforward! It is a cat (sphinx, technically- Artemis already practically speaks in riddles), and it seemed only fitting it be the equivalent of a Dark-Type. Also, my fave deserves a fave, lol.

Butler:

Aurelius Auratoa: Look at this beefy boy! Another favorite for a favorite- this Bakugan is apparently known for being fierce and a little stoic, perfect for Butler!

Beckett:

Pyrus Sharktar: I don’t really feel I have to explain this much- it is a shark with legs! And fists to punch things (which it greatly enjoys doing)! Also, it sets things on fire... they’d get along well.

Myles:

Fangzor/Mantonoid: Ah, a fusion! I couldn’t pick between a bug or reptilian beast to best suit the most cunning current Fowl, but this fellow fits well! A little bit of an ‘odd one out’, perhaps, but that fits Myles fine- I can’t help but picture these two snickering at Artemis together.

Fowl Senior:

Aquos Apophix: Alas, this funky sea serpent doesn’t appear to come in the ‘Darkus’ variety, and I couldn’t find some decent pictures of the Diamond variation (which, given the name, I feel Tim would have)- this Bakugan is very quick and very powerful. Perhaps it’s elemental attribute would be a bit ironic in this case, but I could still see the two getting along well.
