Playing Swords
A/N: A little drabble I wrote for @deathlikessodaandpizza ! Hope you all enjoy!
Minasel lowers her practice sword, wiping her brow. Even a half elf can get exhausted from over an hour of drilling in the humid Gondorian air. She walks over to the jug of water left on the benches at the edge of the training ground and takes a long desperate drink. She downs about half of it, before taking the rest and pouring it over head. The cool water runs down her back and she shivers a bit at the contrast from the hot air, shaking herself like a dog. She hears a soft little laugh and straightens up, brushing her wet hair out of her eyes. There's a little boy watching her with wide eyes and a gap toothed smile. He's young, maybe five? Minasel isn't sure, she has difficulty with human aging. He looks familiar, too. She frowns, thinking. Then it dawns on her. He's the young prince of Gondor, Faronion.
"You're all wet!" He laughs. Minasel smiles at his infectious joy.
"I am."
"Nana gets mad when I get all wet in the fountain," he says.
"You probably shouldn't get your clothes wet unless you've been training hard all day, like me," she informs him.
Faronion thinks on that, his chubby face screwed up. "So, if I play swords with you, Nana won't be mad that I'm wet?"
Minasel notices he is quite damp, his feet bare and a streak of mud on his cheek. He must have been splashing in the fountain beneath the white tree. She smiles.
"Well, we can certainly try."
Faronion beams from ear to ear. "Yay!"

For the WIP Word game: The word I'm guessing is 'ache'
Hello! Thank you for guessing! I actually found this word in the WIP for Chapter 19 of Children of Middle Earth! Get your tissues ready!
"Minasel felt an ache in her chest, hearing Faronion’s words."
Thank you for playing!

Faronion, in full costume: Minasel, why aren’t you wearing a costume?
Minasel, in her regular clothes: I am wearing a costume.
Faronion: oh yeah? Then what are you supposed to be?
Minasel: an orphan.

Faronion’s little sister, Aerloth, loves being told stories and loves when they are being acted out right in front of her, but she doesn’t like when Minasel plays damsels or Faronion plays heroes (she’s really picky about that). So, Minasel and Faronion decide the best course of action is to switch places, with Faronion stealing one of his mother’s gowns and Minasel using her father’s coat.
~
It’s been awhile since I digitally drew a picture, but my roommate recommended a drawing app to use on my phone and even gave me a couple of styluses for it, so I decided to try it out.

I wanted to draw Minasel and Faronion in fancy clothes… so that’s what I did!

Hiiiiii !!!! 1- Do they sleep with a stuffed animal? If they have multiple, who’s the favorite? AND 16- If money wasn’t a limit, what would they wear? AND 26-Talent or effort? AND 27-Forgiveness or vengeance (or…)? FOR BOTH MINASEL AND FARONION PLEAAASE !!!
Woah, so many questions! Thank you so much! Some of them were a bit difficult, but I tried my best to give a satisfying answer!
~~~
1- Both Minasel and Faronion do not sleep with stuffed animals. Minasel occasionally sleeps with her runestone and Faronion has this wooden horse figurine from when he was little, but they don’t have any stuffed animals.
16- Minasel does not care for money. Even if she did, she still wouldn’t get herself anything special to wear. She is completely fine lounging around in her fathers old coat and in a comfortable blue tunic with legging and boots. Although, she would like a plain blue dress that doesn’t itch at her sides and require her to wear anything fancy.
Faronion would wear a full suit of armor everyday if he could, but even he knows that something like that wouldn’t be very practical and be very uncomfortable. If he can’t wear a suit of armor, then he would be plenty comfortable in a long coat (like his fathers) with plain civilian clothes underneath. He rather not wear his prince clothes.
26- Both Minasel and Faronion believe in effort above all things. When effort is put into something, they have respect for that person, since they had to build their way up to get where they are instead of it all coming naturally, which is what Minasel and Faronion both had to do.
27- Minasel isn’t very vengeful, but she also isn’t very forgiving. She forgave those who gave her years of trauma, but even then there is no real way of knowing if she actually forgave them or just said the words. On the battlefield or when it involves a friend, she will have completely be vengeful, but she definitely won’t be the same way if it’s for herself.
Faronion is about the same way, but his reasoning is different. He only shows forgiveness to those who deserve it, like those who are genuine or kind to him. His vengeful nature will only come out if said person has caused any harm, either physically or emotionally, whether it be to himself, a close member of his family, or a friend.
Happy 1 Year!
So, apparently a year ago today, I published the first chapter of Children of Middle Earth on Ao3 and introduced my ocs to the world! I want to thank everyone for the mass amount of support and love that was given to the story and it’s characters. Both Minasel and Faronion are two OCs that I have given a lot of time and effort in and they mean a lot to me, and even Agarhend and Sir Gwauthraug have grown from generic villain roles and gained a lot of character of their own! Thank you everyone for 1 year! I love and appreciate you all! 😊❤️
Hello ! For your Ocs : when they are upset, is there anything to calm them down? (especially for Minasel, i want to adopt her )
Thank you for the question! Sorry I didn’t answer it right away, I was very busy!
~
Minasel’s main comfort is the runestone that once belonged to her father! She finds comfort cradling it, and talking and singing to it!
Faronion loves to have his hair pet. Just having someone run their fingers through his hair always makes him feel better!
For Agarhend, alcohol and getting new clothes is his comfort. He absolutely loves retail therapy and will take part of it every week!
Sir Gwauthraug doesn’t find comfort in anything, except bringing misery to people.
~
Thank you again for the asks and I hope you have a wonderful day ❤️
If your ics emptied they're pockets, what is most likely to be inside?
Oh! I like this one!
In Minasel's pockets, she only carries a letter and the runestone that belonged to her father, two very important things that she holds dear. Also, that runestone she believes brings her luck, so she doesn't need anything else!
Faronion carries powder for his tinderbox to create bombs and some coins. He carries coins, because Minasel has a distaste for any sort of money, especially gold (due to family history), and refuses to carry any, even though she knows that she might need it later to pay for food and/or board. Also, Arwen always gives Faronion some money before he leaves to go on patrol, so Faronion carries the money.
Agarhend carries different herbs and a small comb in his pocket. He has to make sure he looks nice everywhere he goes, because who knows who he will run into! Also, not only can the herbs be used on facial features, but he can also use it for healing!
Hi ! How much do your Ocs feel the cold ? Can they handle it ? Or they must be warm at all cost ? ( is this question clear ? )
Hello! This actually made me think about (along with taking part in a bit of research) but I have an answer for you!
~
Minasel’s body is like a timed furnace, because of her strange mixed race. Like a dwarf, she can stay warm in cold weather, but, because of the elf part in her, it only last for a couple of hours before that body heat diminishes and she becomes cold. So, when outside in the snow, she will be fine for a couple of hours, but, after sometime, she will become freezing cold and need to find warmth some other way.
Faronion hates the cold. He can go out in it, but he definitely won’t be happy about it. Sit him in front of a warm campfire and he will be the happiest boy alive!
Agarhend hates the cold, especially if it’s snowing. He can’t handle it and he will tell you how much he hates it. The snow has froze his hair, the winds too cold, he hates the layers he has to wear, etc. Nothing about the cold makes him happy. He likes warm places better (which must be why he spends a lot of time in Mordor).
Sir Gwauthraug can’t feel cold (unless it’s the coldness in his heart). He really does not care what environment he is in.
~
Thank you for the great question! ❤️
Minasel Durin and Faronion Elessar Reference Sheets
I realized that my two Ocs have been gaining a bit of popularity and with that there are probably people out there who would like to draw them or write stories for them. The problem is that the last reference sheet I made for them was almost a year ago and they went through a lot of changes in design since then. I have had people ask for references for them and that will cause me to send them 10 different pictures for a simple design!
So, here is a better reference sheet for Minasel Durin, Daughter of Kili and Tauriel, and Faronion Elessar, Son of Aragorn and Arwen!
Hiiiiii! OC ask time!
If your OCs could be mentored by one of the valar, who would they be?
*jeopardy music plays*
Hello! This is a very good question and actually had me doing some research, but I think I finally have an answer!
For starters, Sir Gwauthraug and Agarhend would not be mentored by the valar. Sir Gwauthraug believes that his race is higher than the valar, and Agarhend worships Elrond, believing that he is higher than the valar.
Minasel will most likely be mentored by Varda. You would think that she would be mentored by Aule, since she is half-dwarf and often refers to him, but Varda actually makes more sense since Varda is the queen of the stars. Minasel, with her name meaning "tower of stars" and having an interest in the night sky, could learn how to fashion stars with Varda as her mentor.
Faronion would be mentored by Yavanna and Aule. He loves nature and the world around him, but he could also be very good and smithing with his love of fire. So, with Aule being a smith and Yavanna being associated with nature, Faronion could learn many things from them. He may also learn about dwarven culture from Aule, which is something he found very interesting yet sort of confusing. Minasel has tried to explain it to him, but Aule might do a better job with that.
Hello ! For all of your Ocs : Do they have any scars?
Hello there! For this, I'll let my Ocs answer the question:
Minasel: Do I have any scars? A good question for me would have been what type of scars don't I have! I have scars from cuts up and down my arms, on my back, and on my chest. Most of the scars on my back are actually burns from when I would be tortured in orc camps to spill information. Melted metal right on the skin. Would not recommend.
~
Faronion: I only have the scar on my back from when I fell of the horse. It hurt, but, honestly, I wish I had more.
Minasel: No, you don't.
Faronion: I kind of do. I think it would pretty neat to have-
Minasel: No. You. DON'T.
~
Agarhend: I don't have any markings from battle I have been in, but I do have some markings from spilling some mixtures from my alchemy set on my skin. One time, I got a small paper cut on my arm and went into my alchemy set to find a healing potion, because I can't have a single mark on my perfect skin. I was in a hurry and did not look at the label of the potion I grabbed. So, now I have a huge red rash on my right arm. A lesson can be learned from this: please pay attention to the labels on your potions or else you will have a hideous rash on your arm that can never go away.
~
Sir Gwauthraug: ... I don't even have a body. I can't get hurt.
Minasel: What about damage to your soul?
Sir Gwauthraug: I HAVE NO SOUL!
~~~
Thank you for the ask ❤
