EXO as Rich Kids @spacequokka EXO has more group series than every other group combined, every time i find a good fic it's part of a series like what? so far i've read jongdae's it's super cute
Tumblr media
Xiumin
don't call it a love song (EXO mall series) ✨ @yehet-me-up 16.8k deserves it's own mention bc music nerd minseok?? rocker minseok?? bookstore owner!reader??? it's like this thing was written specifically for me, i ate this shit up it was so cute, their interactions were so cute, probably my favourite idiots2lovers ff, the snow scene, the singing scene, the dancing scene, the everything scene, minseok being a simp regularly, there is no fault in this ff, i'm gonna stop now i could keep going god help me
burning bridges @kwanisms 1.5k this hurt me, it's angst, it's not exactly happy, the synopsis tells you as much but every time i still read it and think maybe, maybe...
Tumblr media
Suho

Tumblr media
Lay
you work too hard @cxsmicmyeon 0.7k just some domestic fluff with workaholic yixing, i'm projecting so hard onto this fic omg

Tumblr media
Baekhyun
inquiring minds @papermatisse 2.7k professor!baekhyun, i don't know what is up with exo-ls but y'all always find my most absolute favourite au versions for the boys like fr what's going on, anyway, this was soo freaking good! i read a professor one about woozi (svt) that was trying to do what this ff did but...., and now i get to read the concept executed perfectly, i'm screaming ugh
Tumblr media
Chen
disclaimer: these are obviously works of fiction and they take place in non-canon universes. we all wish jongdae and his family only the best, duh. if you're uncomfortable with reading ff about him, skip ahead. me, personally, i'd like to keep a little delulu corner in my daydreams available for him <3

Tumblr media
Kai

Tumblr media
Sehun
spellbound @navellera 6k this doesn't feel like 6k, it was over in the blink of an eye, one of the only sehun ff i've read so far that i could actually stand, most of them (that i've looked at so far) have really weird writing in that the author puts weird sentences in a row that feel disconnected and irrelevant to one another sometimes, this one didn't have that, also, i've been looking for some hogwarts!exo and this really scratched that itch

NAERI STATION: INTERLUDE | (TEASER)
Tumblr media
Genre: angst, fluff, smut. coming of age au. mafia au. Warnings: Graphic violence, Strong language, Mature content. Pairing: bts & Original Female Character (Jung Jiah) - Jeon Jungkook/Original Female Character - Kim Namjoon/Original Female Character summary: the one where the kids play with fire, and Yoongi is angry angry.
a/n: here it is! this is a prequel to arcadia's lullaby, my exo focused fic that is still in the works. I remember someone telling me they enjoyed Jiah's and Yoongi's interactions in there and since I already had a lot of backstory in my mind and I miss the 7s, I decided to give them a much-deserved story of their own.
This story will be set before the events in AL and it'll cover my OFC's adventures, canonic events, pains of teenage adulthood, and relationships between 2014-2018, with the tannies as main characters of course. hope you'll enjoy and as always, feedback is welcomed :)
coming soon (very soon)
>> March 2014. Three months after Hwacheon's fire.
“So, whose idea was it?” Yoongi demanded.
Their heads whipped in his direction, features momentarily frozen. They’d been too invested in talking their ears off and blasting Whatever by Oasis on Jimin’s phone to hear him as he made his way down the creaky stairs.
“We were all playing, hyung, it’s not like it’s only one person–”
Jungkook was making a fair point, but Taehyung and Jimin sneakily tilted their heads at the only girl in the room, sitting with one chopstick in each fist resting on the table, ready to dig in.
“So it was you, then. May I ask what the fuck you were thinking?”
Ok, maybe he was overdoing it with the f-word and the whole bad cop stalking inside the questioning room. She didn’t flinch or even blink at his approaching figure, but the boys’ eyes widened. They shared concerned side glances, just making sure the worried is shared: shit, he’s angry angry.
“It’s just a game my friends used to play,” she answered.
Yoongi realized then that he hadn’t heard her talk much in the past weeks. She seemed content sitting and hanging around in silence most of the time, letting the trio take the lead, paying attention to Jin’s questions, and offering short answers.
And what happened the first time she’d decided to take some initiative? He was left with a burnt patch of grass in his backyard, dangerously close to the boat and the shed. It was bitch to put out even between the five of them, because only dirt kills diesel fire.
And to top it all off he was just getting home after commuting back from Seoul.
So they dealt with that. Then he went up for a much-needed shower, only to come back down and find them warming up dinner, plating it and all, stinking like smoke and dirt.
“And what game was that, forest fire?”
The four answered in unison. “Hot potato.”
Taehyung went on to explain how it goes. You tie a knot in the middle of a knee sock, soak it in diesel, set it on fire and throw it around. First one to drop it's the loser. Jimin kicked him under the table before he further elaborated on the rules of such a riveting recreational activity.
But Yoongi got stuck on a detail. “So you have friends, and you remember Hot Potato. I guess your short-term amnesia just– poofed away”
That one landed, and it landed well. She turned away from him before he was done talking —a gesture so rude he would’ve first stuck his hand down the toilet before attempting it at his parent’s house– and went on to grab her chopsticks again.
Jimin was fascinated, Taehyung? Horrified. Jungkook was just a ball of mortification staring at her.
Not a second went by, she didn’t even get to put them properly between her fingers before Yoongi hooked a finger on the bowl and pulled it away from her reach. The steaming, spicy broth sloshed around, nearly touching his skin.
“I guess you can now tell us what’s your story, then.”
She could. Jungkook wouldn’t do it but he could attest to this. He’d caught a faraway look in her eyes sometimes, looking at them during dinner, playing Mario 64 when they got to Whomp's fortress and stood close to the piranha plant, setting off a soft lullaby, or sometimes looking out of the window at night. People don’t visibly remember things, and miss and regret without having a story to tell.
“I can’t,” she said, looking sideways at the bowl, specifically at the one piece of bok choy she meant to pick first. Revenge was brewing under the calm in her eyes. “It’s classified information, and you don’t have the clearance”
“That so?”
“It is so.” she met his eye, hands folded on her lap, mockingly polite.
Yoongi squinted at the girl, the same one that Jin, god bless him, had worried would face some sort of neurological damage after the shit she went through. They’d been running all kinds of tests on her at the hospital, for her head, her ears and her heart, but as it is, Yoongi just needed to talk to her and leave no room for further bullshit to successfully diagnose her as a little shit.
“Well, no worries. I’m overthrowing the classification system. You’re free to tell us all about it.” he assured, tone light, walking around the kitchen table and getting himself a glass of water.
The boys tried to do damage control behind his back, He could see them all in the reflection of the dirty window by the sink. Jungkook vehemently shook his head at her, Taehyung made an x with both arms, Jimin tried to hold back his laughter.
“Under what jurisdiction?”
Tearing his eyes away from the sun disappearing down the lake, Yoongi made his way over and flattened both hands on the surface of the table. “Under it’s my house you’re living in and my food you’re eating jurisdiction, how about that?”
“Hyung–” Jimin tried to say, but she beat him to it.
“I’m sorry we almost burnt the backyard,” she stated, very businesslike, wearing Taehyun’s old, frayed snoopy sweatshirt that crickets visibly feasted upon.
“And the house.”
“And the house,” she repeated. Jungkook nodded to himself, satisfied. His eyes had been bouncing between the girl and his usually laid-back hyung. Worried that things would escalate. “Can I have my bowl?”
“No. Were you raised by wolves, huh? You’re supposed to wait for the eldest to start eating.”
“Hyung, aren’t you being too harsh?” Taehyung winced, also trying to play Pyromaniac’s Advocate. “Hyung said she might have brain damage.”
She did not take well to that, but she kept her mouth shut. Yoongi held back a chuckle.
“I’ll deal with you three later,”
Yoongi knew letting a girl stay would mess up the dynamic.
He’d expected it to be the result of either hormones, Jungkook being socially stunted when it comes to members of the female population, jealousy, or bathroom arrangements. He failed to consider that they'd find a nameless girl with a smart mouth and act like she’s a pup they really want to keep; can we, hyung? We’ll take her on walks, and let her suck diesel out of the boat’s tank.
He turned back to her, sighing. This wouldn’t do.
“Listen, I don’t give a shit who you are or what happened with you, but you’re going to have to figure out what you want to do.”
How old was she, again? Not much older than Jungkook probably, maybe even younger?
“What do I want to do?”
“Uh-huh. I’m not gonna have you slugging around, coming up with shitty games, and hot potatoing my property. Think of something, and we’ll figure it out.” he paused, noticing the glint in her eye. “Just don’t get too greedy, this is a working-class household. We’ll find something for you, it’ll do you well.”
High School Yoongi would’ve clutched his hammer and sickle if he could hear him talk about how work dignifies. But that was before he moved out of his parent's house, and somehow ended up living with a bunch of kids.
The girl blinked up at him, and it might’ve been the first time he’d seen her smile.
“I’d like to eat my bowl of malatang. Please.”

A Thousand Lives Lived
Exology
Pairing: EXO OT11 x Fem!Reader
Genre: Adventure, Angst, Drama, Fantasy, Power!AU, Sci-Fi
Word Count: ~400
Warnings: N/A
Masterlist || Next>>
Tumblr media
In the beginning, there was nothing. From the nothing grew the roots of the Tree of Life- and the Tree of Life itself from that. Its roots stretched and wrapped around itself to create the EXO Planet. From there, life was born.
For peace, balance and protection, the Tree of Life produced eleven forces--eleven Legends. Each one created from a single drop of sap, each Legend was given an elemental or cardinal power to aid in the protection of Tree of Life.
To help and aid the protection of EXO Planet, the Legends created the Elyxion. Hand-picked by the Legends themselves, the Elyxion’s sole purpose was to record and guide the people of EXO Planet-- to keep them on the path of peace and balance. For many years, life lived in bliss.
From the depths of the darkness of the nothing came the red force. Sweltering with hate and festering with greed, the Red Force created the Evil. Plundering the EXO Planet, turning lush fields into dry and barren wastelands, pitting brother against brother, the Evil Red Force made its way towards the Tree of Life.
To protect the Tree of Life, the Legends divided the heart of the Tree in half. Time was overturned and space turned askew. The Legends left the care of EXO Planet in the hands of the Elyxion, before fleeing with the two halves. The eleven Legends split into two and traveled apart to two worlds that seemed alike.
Before the Legends left EXO Planet, they left the Elyxion with this: The two halves of the Tree of Life are equal and opposite to each other. One cannot exist without the other, for their hearts beat in unison. They keep balance in this world and the next. It is only when the End of the End is nigh that the Tree may be reunited and reborn into one perfect root.
With the Legends and the Tree of Life far from EXO Planet, the Evil Red Force left to pursue. To uphold their ancient oath, they attempted to cleanse the influence of the Evil Red Force from the people of EXO Planet, but the damage was immeasurable. To keep the future of the Elyxion safe and free from the negative influence, they kept to their own bloodlines and created the Exoluxion, severing all ties with the outside world.
Many years passed, and the Elyxion stood strong. They taught and cherished two ideals: strength and intelligence. Young Elyxions were taught hand-to-hand combat, strategic planning, weapon manufacturing, and advanced medical knowledge and practice. The Elyxion lived in peace and balance, as long as they remained in the Exoluxion, safe from the Evil Red Force.

the name is hermione zoé, lots of pet names have come to her as the time passed. zowi, zozo, zo, zuwi, baby, honey, oh there are more to know that you might giggle once you listen to it. she might have a cute and little girl aura that she always share, but no worries, she is clearly not a minor! 🌼 as warm as the sunshine that gleams on an ordinary day, she definitely love it to give the affection needed by everyone. platonically, ofcourse, since the romantic one belongs to her boyfriend only. ❤️ she was cherie elisha, goes by cher or cherie as the nickname. but then, for some specific reason, changing it become the best idea for her to take as a step. new name, new journey, she said! 💭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
talking about her, more. she loves a lot of things such as watching movies with some people, also playing genshin (even tho she is not so great on it) or maybe the other games, exploring lots of songs on spotify or maybe just listening to one song which is her favorite at the moment on loop, having spotify session, scribbling to a random photo, reading some novel or maybe just in wattpad or twitter AU, etc.
movies : her favorite genre are action, adventure, animation, fantasy, sci-fi, thriller, horror, family, comedy. she could watch the others too based on her mood, also if the people that she want to watch with chose those which aren't on her list, she surely will follow! her favorite movies are frozen from disney, how to train your dragon, any barbie movies, and some marvel movies! series, she watch alice in borderland, emily in paris, fate: the winx saga (but sadly it got cancelled), also wednesday! 🖤
songs : not really strict with the music she listen, but surely kpop is her taste. casually listen to newjeans, ive, aespa, red velvet, blackpink, stayc, itzy, nct, exo, enhypen and etc! beside— she also listen to western songs. taylor swift is her spirit, there are no day without listening to love story or wildest dream! the others, she have olivia rodrigo, joshua basset, billie eilish, the weeknd, niki, the 1975, and more to see. perhaps, we could exchange a follow on our spotify? 💬
games : she actually play lots of game but only have genshin on her phone (currently), plato is also downloaded but on her other phone which is rarely get played! it can be discussed if we will have a plato agenda together tho. 🫣 smtown superstar, subway surf, farmville 3, stumble guys, thats all the games that exist on her other phone! not to be mentioned, her pc also contain some games which are portal, garfield kart, valorant, and more (she actually forgot what else). 😠
perhaps thats all she can express through words, more introduction could be find out as the time passed! something that happen naturally is one of the things she appreciate the most. 🖤

Roleplay Ad!
Tumblr media
Hello everyone!
Here I am, looking for some EXO roleplay! As tagged, I am looking for a Chanbaek/Baekyeol roleplay. It does not mean Im not opened to other couples as well, but my main focus is finding someone to RP this beautiful pair that is Chanyeol and Baekhyun.
Now, I do tend to roleplay Chanyeol a lot more than I do Baekhyun, but if you would like to take on this giant, go ahead, I do not mind at all. Here is a short laundry list before you keep reading:
It is very important to me that you are legal [18+]. I will not be roleplaying mature content with people below the age of 20. I am a little older myself and it tends to make me uncomfortable.
I have been writing for years. If it is a one-liner roleplay you are looking for, I do not believe we will be a good match. I am looking for someone who is semi-lit at the very least!
I am generally a very active person, but I do have a full time job and full time obligations as well. If this rings a bell, welcome to the adult world ahah. A reply a day (and more) does go a long way!
I am back to GMT-5. Not that it really matters but it’s always good to be aware of this! I usually RP on Discord.
If you think you qualify, I’m certain we can be great friends :) Now, on to the very serious talk: what is it I’m really looking for?
A Chanbaek roleplay. Very simply. I WILL consider other couples as well, but I am a bit .. picky: Kaisoo, Hunhan and Suchen are a welcomed addition to the Chanbaek party!
I love to explore different genres from contemporary to fantasy - to my beloved MAMA AUs, I literally roleplay anything. My preference is yours, literally.
I love to plot. Obviously, I’m not seeking every precocious details but I like to have an idea of the overall story and scenes. It does not have to be extensive, but a little hint will give us both something to look forward to. :)
[20+] I am definitely opened to smut but I rarely, if ever, rp pwp. I am certain we can find a way to add it to a more polished storyline.
If in the end, something tickles yours fancy and you decide to send me a message, I will gladly reply! Come and say hello, I don’t bite, I promise ahah. For the people who are a little more shy or want to role play Chanbaek, but have no idea where to start, I have a few plots in mind.
A MAMA AU akin to Avatar: TLAB (I’m looking at you all Zodiac readers of the past). I’m not seeking something that’s exactly the same but the abilities; the grand adventure; the literal gay fellowship all sound really good in my head. [Epic/Fantasy]
A dystopian AU in which abilities are present, but outlawed by society. Opposites-ish attract. [YA/Fight for the greater good]
A bridesmaid AU in which A meets B (a groomsman) during their sister’s wedding. [Romance]
A college AU in which A and B are part of rival acapella groups. Road to fame was never easy but it is even less so when you fall for the singer you’re supposed to hate. [Ennemies to Lover]
These are just examples of ideas that live in my head. Obviously, you can come and discuss a completely different concept. I’m opened to anything!
If you made it to the end, thank you and congrats!! I don’t have cookies, but I do offer loads of Chanbaek. It’s waiting for you, just a like or a message away~

Book of the Dead
Tumblr media
Genre: The Mummy AU
Pairing: Junmyeon x Reader
Summary: After traveling to the fabled city of Hamunaptra, you read from the Book of the Dead and accidentally resurrect an ancient mummy with extraordinary powers and quest for revenge. The only thing to do now is try and convince your less-than-traditional guide to help you save the world.
Part 1 I Part 2
**
You ran up the smooth stone steps as quickly as your night dress would allow. If only you had had the time to change into something a bit more practical. Unfortunately, the immortal, god-like mummy that was currently lighting the city of Cairo up with the ten plagues of Egypt was exactly willing to pause for you to put on a different outfit.
“Run this by me one more time?” Baekhyun huffed a few stairs behind.
Rolling your eyes, you said again, “We’re going to read the stone with the inscription of the location of the book of the living. Once I translate its location, we’ll head back to Hamunaptra, retrieve it, and send Mr. Bones back to the underworld.”
“You really need to work on the nicknames,” Junmyeon grumbled as he placed a hand on your lower back to urge you upwards at a faster pace.
“Sorry that my sarcastic wit doesn’t work best under pressure.”
“Trust me, it hasn’t been working with or without the pressure.”
You shot the soldier a dirty look, which only led to you tripping over your own feet. Junmyeon caught you before your knees could meet the edge of the last step. Looking up at him, you opened your mouth, whether to say thank you or to release another sharp remark, you weren’t sure. Those stupid brown eyes were scrambling the thought pathways in your brain. But thankfully, one thing was able to connect and bring back your focus.
“The stone!”
A large black stone taller than you and wider than your forearm sat to the right of the staircase, a block of polished wood at the base keeping it upright and away from the wall. You ripped out of Junmyeon’s grasp and scrambled for the stone. Your eyes scanned the hieroglyphics. A few feet away, Baekhyun was half bent over in an effort to regulate his breathing.
“Can you do that a little quieter?” you gritted between your teeth as your fingers slid over the etched surface of the stone.
“It wasn’t that many stairs,” Sehun said.
“Sorry, not all of us are as athletic as the muscled up soldiers over here.” Baekhyun hooked a thumb towards Junmyeon, who was hardly paying attention as he stared out the open balcony. Baekhyun and Sehun joined him, the former then gulped. “You might want to hurry up over there.”
“Patience is a virtue,” you sang.
“Not right now it isn’t,” Junmyeon mumbled grimly.
That was when you heard it.
Hundreds of voices chanting in unison.
“Imhotep. Imhotep. Imhotep. Imhotep.” Over and over in monotone sounds, growing closer and louder.
Oh, shit.
“I hate to agree, but yes, faster would be better,” Professor Bey urged.
His power was growing. Fast. You buckled down, translating the pictures into the ancient language and then again into your own tongue.
“They’ve become his slaves,” Ardeth said with more morbidness than you previously thought possible.
“A side effect of the boils and sores, I’m sure,” Baekhyun said, not helping. Another plague down. The final one, if your counting was correct.
Block them out. You needed to block all of them out. “Alright, so according to the Bembridge scholars, the gold book of Amun-Ra is located in the statue of Anubis.”
“But we found the black book there instead,” said one of the Americans.
Baekhyun moved to your side. “So, they were wrong?”
“Obviously.” Arrogant men who thought you didn’t have enough experience to join their society. “They mixed up where they were buried. So if that was where the black book was located….”
A crash. The front doors of the museum must have been breached.
“I got it! The golden book is located inside the statue of Horus!” You slapped the rock with your hand in victory. “Take that, Bembridge bastards!”
“Alright then, let’s run!” Baekhyun took your hand and hurried you down the hall while the others stayed close at your heels. Down the stairs and through a back corridor, you were able to make it to the car while avoiding the mind controlled citizens. Safety be damned, you all piled on one another into the topless car as Baekhyun turned over the engine and gunned it. Hordes of the poor men chasing you poured out of the doors of the museum and managed to keep up with the four wheeled vehicle that now raced through the dirt streets in the dark. Junmyeon remained on the trunk of the car, reloading his gun and punching anyone who was able to get close enough.
“Those are innocent people!” you yelled over all the noise.
“Yeah, well, right now, it’s us or them!” Junmyeon kicked one off but lost his balance in the meantime. He nearly fell into the crowd before you were able to grab his arm and yank him down. “Thanks,” he muttered mere inches from your face before clearing his throat and righting himself. On his other side, Sehun was fighting along with Ardeth to keep you all from being overrun. Imhotep must have been able to give the controlled men advanced abilities. An unfortunate event.
But right when you thought that you might be able to get away, several men climbed onto one of the Americans and they all fell from the car, lost in the crowd. Without thinking, the other yelled and then jumped after his friend. And then he was gone, too.
“Crap.”
“Rest in peace, old chaps,” Baekhyun murmured, looking over his shoulder. And then crashed the car.
“Baekhyun!” you shouted angrily. Junmyeon hoisted you out of the car, not wasting a moment, but the six of you were trapped. The mind controlled men were coming at you from all three streets. You were blocked in against one of the walls of the city.
“It's the creature,” Professor Bey whispered. You frowned, unable to see past the ones that surrounded the group. Then you saw him.
Imhotep.
“He’s fully regenerated.”
Not a single spec of mummified skin remained. He’d gotten to the Americans.
Stepping closer as the crowd pushed in, he started speaking in the ancient language, lapdog Beni right behind.
“Come with me, my princess,” Beni translated with a false sense of superiority. “It is time to make you mine. Forever.”
You scoffed. “For all eternity. Idiot.”
Imhotep spoke again, this time with his hand outstretched.
“Take my hand and I shall spare your friends.”
You looked around for any chance of escape. There was none. “Just wonderful.” You turned to Junmyeon, who was slowly putting himself between you and the mummy. “Any good ideas?”
His face was twisted and his eyes darted from left to right. “I’m thinking. I’m thinking.”
“Good. Keep thinking and think of something fast. Because if he turns me into a mummy, you’re the first one I’m coming after.”
Junmyeon’s eyes snapped to you, wide with shock. “No!” But you were out of arm’s reach before he could stop you. He pulled a gun and pointed it at Imhotep, ready to fire. Sehun and Ardeth both managed to stop him.
“He has to take me to Hamunaptra,” you explained. “In order to perform the ritual.” With your eyes, you tried to add in the rest. Follow us there, get the book, and I’ll read it.
“She’s got a point,” Sehun said. “If we live today, we can fight tomorrow.”
Junmyeon hesitated, then lowered his gun. You held his gaze, trying to let him know silently what you were feeling in this moment. That you were glad to have met him. And you wished the two of you had more time.
“We’ll see each other again,” he promised.
With an arm around your shoulders, Imhotep led you away. The sound of Junmyeon saying your name reached your ears and you almost ran back to him.
“Hey, that’s mine!” Baekhyun yelled. Running up next to you, Beni tossed the octagonal key to the books in the air. Well, that wasn’t necessarily a good thing.
Gripping your arm tighter, Imhotep gave out one final order. “Kill them all!”
“No!” You fought and kicked and tugged to get away. “Let go of me! Junmyeon! Baekhyun!” It was no use. As you looked back behind you, all you could see was the crowd closing in on them.
**
You traveled for what felt like hours in the sandstorm of Imhotep. When you were finally deposited onto the sand, rolling in it from the momentum and getting it everywhere, you managed to open your eyes and see where he had decided to stop. You were right outside of the city of the dead. You were back.
A loud buzzing noise caught your attention. Looking up into the sky, you saw an old fashioned pedal plane carrying more people than it was built for. You smile. “Mr. Kim.”
After walking a few paces ahead, Imhotep raised his arms and called up a sandstorm so large, it blocked out the sky. Forming into a face, it ruched at the tiny plane. And then the storm swallowed it whole.
“No!”
The sandstorm dissipated and the plane was no longer visible. Imhotep smirked then walked towards the city. You had no choice but to follow.
You were going to die.
That didn’t stop you from following the mummy down into the depths of the temple, your glare switching from Imhotep’s back to Beni, who walked beside you.
“Your face will stay like that,” Beni warned. How childish.
“And nasty little boys like yourself always get their comeuppance,” you shot back.
Beni stopped in his tracks. “They do?”
You smirked. How stupid. You did believe that he would get his own form of punishment for helping the ancient priest - you just hoped that it was sooner rather than later.
Down in the main chamber of the temple, a loud noise stopped Imhotep mid chant. Taking one of the sacred jars, he emptied the ash-like substance into his hand and then blew on it, letting the particles drift through the air. Then he spoke out a spell and mummified bodies ripped themselves free from their walled-in prisons, leaving behind deep human-shaped impressions among the hieroglyphics.
“Kill them and wake the others,” Imhotep ordered. Turning back to you and Beni, he nodded at the latter, who then forced you down onto the stone slab next to a pit that at first you thought was water, but the liquid was too thick and too black, like ink. You were too focused on the substance to notice Imhotep’s hand coming near your face. He spoke a single word and your vision went black.
It could have only been a minute that you were out, but it was enough time for your wrists and ankles to be tied down and the sacred jars to be lined up against your side.  Seeing a strange lump out of the corner of your left eye, you turned.
Then screamed.
The mummified body of who could only have been Anck-Su-Namun was lying right next to you, ready to be revived. You fought and tugged at your restraints, desperate to get away, to put distance between you and the woman who killed the pharaoh. One by one, the resurrected priests circled the slab, fell to their knees, and began chanting as they bowed. Imhotep stepped up, the black book in his hands. He caressed the side of the mummy’s face lovingly. Despite the reality of the situation, a small part of you couldn’t help but be in awe of his devotion. All of this, for his love.
That didn’t mean you wanted to help.
“Junmyeon! Baekhyun! Sehun!” One of them. Any of them! Please, just let one of them get in here with the book!
From the pit, the inky substance rose, formless, shapeless as it drifted through the air, over you and settled into the body. Imhotep finished the enchantment and the mummy came to life with a shrieking gasp. It turned and looked at you with knowing eyes. The scream of pure terror was ripped from your throat.
No, no, no, no!
Appearing on the other side of you, Imhotep said one last time that with your death, Anck-Su-Namun would live. He raised a dagger with both hands and let it hover over your heart for just a beat.
“I found the book of Amun-Ra! I found it, cousin!”
Standing at the top of the large stone staircase, Baekhyun waved a giant book of gold over his head, the proudest grin shining from his face, visible even from this distance.
Imhotep hesitated, lowering the dagger.
“Fantastic, now shut up and help me off of here!” you shouted back. “You have to open the book! Open it!”
Like in a trance, Imhotep walked around the slab, placing the dagger down next to Anck-Su-Namun, and continued towards the stairs.
“I can’t open it! It needs the key!”
“His robes!” You motioned towards Imhotep with your head. “It’s in his robes!”
With Imhotep coming closer, Baekhyun took off down the hallway that had led him here. Out of the shadows the opposite way, Junmyeon jumped out, swinging a large golden sword at the priests. Sehun wasn’t far behind with a sword of his own. Toegher, the two of them cut the mummies into pieces. With everyone distracted, you worked at the ropes around your wrists that had loosened in your many struggles, freeing the right one first and then moving onto your ankles. Only the left wrist was left to be freed, but this one was choosing to be difficult.
“Are you alright?” Junmyeon asked as he took down another priest.
“For the most part,” you answered, jangling your hand. Junmyeon lifted the sword to cut it free but suddenly fell from view. The upper bodies of the priests had grabbed hold of him and were holding him down so another could get close enough to drop the giant rock it was carrying onto his head. “Junmyeon!”
Junmyeon struggled to reach the sword he had dropped. Sehun was too busy with his own fight to notice his cousin needed help. You tried for the weapon yourself but it was too far out of reach. A disembodied hand was crawling with its fingers across the floor. When it wrapped its palm around the hilt of the sword, Junmyeon managed to grab the arm and swing at the mummy holding the stone, taking its legs out from under it. It fell backwards, squishing itself comically. He took care of the others and freed himself. He cut the bindings from your wrist and helped you off the slab. “Better late than never, right?”
“We’ll reevaluate that later.”
Baekhyun emerged from a side corridor. Oh, thank goodness. As if he were reading the Sunday paper, he studied the front of the book. “Cousin, I found an inscription here. Rash- Rasheem oola… kashka!”
A pair of doors burst open and out marched mummified soldiers with shields and spears.
“Oh, wonderful.” At least you weren’t the only one who mucked up by reading out loud.
Two by two, they came out until there were ten now facing you, Junmyeon, and Sehun.
“This just keeps getting better and better,” Sehun muttered angrily.
“Baekhyun, do something,” you begged.
“Me?” Baekhyun squeaked as he backed up against a pillar.
“Yes, you! You raised them! You can control them!”
“You’re joking, right?”
The soldiers marched on, coming in closer. You weren’t armed and you doubted Junmyeon and Sehun could hold all of them off. “Finish the inscription on the cover, you idiot!”
“Oh! Right!” Baekhyun scrambled to hide behind the pillar.
Focused on the enemy in front of you, the one that had just been resurrected had been left forgotten.
Anck-Su-Namun snatched you away from behind just as the mummified soldiers pounced. You managed to get out of her grip and were now playing a rather unfun game of tag while she chased you with the ceremonial dagger, keen on killing you herself so she could be fully revived.
“Baekhyun, hurry up, please!”
“I can’t figure out this last symbol!”
“What does it look like!” You ran around the pillars and figures, lucky that you still had all of your ligaments to move quickly with. But Anck-Su-Namun had caught on and cut you off from around a corner, clutching your neck as you fought to keep the dagger away from your heart.
“Its… its, uh… a bird!” Baekhyun started flapping an arm in a wing-like motion. “No! A stork!”
You pushed the air past your throat to give him the answer. “Ahmenophus!”
“Ah! That makes sense!” He read over the sentence again before yelling, “Hootash im ahmenophus!”
With a kick to her brittle rips, you managed to break free from Anck-Su-Namun right as the mummy soldiers froze. Right on time, too, as it seemed both Junmyeon and Sehun were about to be impaled. You ran to Baekhyuun and ripped the book out of his hands. “Give that to me!” Turning back to the one who had tried to kill you, you said, “Fa-kooshka, Anck-Su-Namum!”
The soldiers didn’t move as Anck-Su-Namun stalked closer.
“Oh, fine!” You motioned for Baekhyun, who very smugly repeated the order. The soldiers backed off Junmyeon and Sehun, going for their new prey as Imhotep tried to stop them with his own shouting. It didn’t work. He watched in horror as, for the second time, his love was taken from him. All you saw was the soldiers surrounding her, then stabbing. She shrieked in pain and then was once again… silent
Imhotep roared in anger. He swept up sand as he turned on you and Baekhyun, vowing death to you both. Junmyeon ran up from behind and cut off one of his arms, getting his attention instead. The robes slipped from Imhotep’s body as he picked up the severed arm and reattached it, stepping determinedly in Junmyeon’s direction.
The robes.
The key!
You hurried forward, eyes never leaving Imhotep in case he remembered what he had left behind. It took a moment of searching the folds of black, tattered fabric, but eventually you found the key. “Keep him busy!” you told Junmyeon.
“Yeah, no problem,” was grunted back to you.
Inserting the key, you twisted it three times until the claws clicked open. You flipped through the heavy slabs, eyes constantly on the search for the right inscription. There was so much here. So much knowledge, so much history, you were getting distracted.
Save Junmyeon! You told yourself. Stay focused and save Junmyeon!
“Hurry!” Baekhyun urged.
You growled back, “You’re not helping!”
Imhotep now had Junmyeon by the throat, feet off the ground and face turning purple. You were running out of time!
There! “I have it! Kadeesh mal! Kadeesh mal! Pared oos! Pared oos!”
A wind from nowhere kicked up through the air. From the top of the staircase, a ghostly horse-drawn carriage came sailing in, down the stairs and straight for him.
Horrified and knowing exactly what was headed his way, Imhotep dropped Junmyeon and tried to run. But the carriage was faster.
It barreled through him, taking with it a translucent outline of himself, rounding the room before trotting back up the staircase and through the purplish wormhole that it had come from. Imhotep chased after it as if he could steal what was stolen from him back. But that was impossible.
Junmyeon picked up his dropped sword and scrambled to you, weapon high for the next round of the fight. “I thought you said that would kill him.”
Imhotep stomped forward, eyes fixed on your group. So focused on his target that he never saw Sehun come in from behind and stab his own sword through Imhotep’s back.
 You smirked. “He’s mortal now.”
He stared down at the blade that was protruding from his stomach. Staggering, his eyes were round from shock, little by little the light of life fading. His feet shuffled closer to the pit’s edge until he finally fell in and sunk beneath the surface. As he faded from view, his skin disintegrated until he was back in the form that you first found him. Words echoed around as he gave one last message. Handing the book back to Baekhyun, you translated it for the others.
“Death… is only the beginning.”
“Thank god that’s over,” Baekhyun sighed.
You squeezed his shoulder, thankful to whomever that he was alive. That you all were. “We should get out of here.”
“Where’s Beni?” Sehun asked as he surveyed the room. Oh, right. You’d nearly forgotten about him.
“Probably halfway back to Cairo with a bag full of gold,” Junmyeon said bitterly.
Then, suddenly, the walls began to tremble, sand fell in falls from the ceiling
“Time to go!” Junmyeon grabbed your hand and headed for the exit. Baekhyun, who was leading in front, slipped on a pile of sand as he crossed one of the bridges. You watched in horror as the book flew from his hands and into the water, sinking beyond retrieval.
“You lost the book! How could you lose the book!”
“Oh, come on!” All three yelled at you. Nothing could be done. The Book of Amun-Ra was lost. You’d cry about it later.
Navigating the halls, sand and walls were falling all around you, seeking to trap you in. Junmyeon led the group through a giant room filled with gold. Baekhyun whimpered at all the treasure he was able to take with him, but at least he kept running.
“Wait for me! Wait for me!”
As you left the hall of gold, you turned to see Beni running after you. The ceiling above was slowly lowering. If he didn’t pick it up, he’d be trapped forever. A small opening barely big enough for a human was starting to sink beneath the floor. Baekhyun made it through. Sehun made it through. You made it through.
Junmyeon came in last, sliding across the sand and then flipping over, his hand reaching out towards Beni, who was still a good ten or fifteen feet away. “Come on, come on, come on!” Hate him or not, Junmyeon would try to help. But Beni didn’t make it and the opening disappeared. Junmyeon sighed. Then shrugged. “Bye-bye, Beni.”
He jumped up to his feet and rejoined the group.
Finally outside, the columns and temples were also falling, causing you all to zig-zag all around the city as it crumbled to the ground. The sand beneath your feet shook. You made it out of the city’s boundary. When you were far enough out of the blast zone, you stopped and watched as what was once a great archeological find sink into the sand, never to be seen again.
Baekhyun screamed out of nowhere. You panicked, thinking Imhotep wasn’t truly dead. But then you saw the shadow. And then the camel. And then the man riding it.
“Ardeth!” You were so happy to see him alive! You had been so worried about getting out yourself, you hadn’t been able to ask the others what had happened to him.
“Thank you for that heart attack,” Baekhyun scolded as he rubbed his chest. He would be fine. If the wine and women hadn’t killed him yet, you were sure he would live through this.
Ardeth bowed his head. “From me and my people, you have earned our respect and gratitude.”
Baekhyun chuckled, waving it off with false modesty. “Well… it was nothing.”
“Speak for yourself,” Sehun muttered as he spat dirt from his mouth.
Ardeth grinned then clicked his tongue to urge the camel on.
Shaking his head, Baekhyun turned back to the flat surface that used to be Hamunaptra. “Wonderful. We go home empty-handed. Again.”
Junmyeon looked down at you and with the softest expression, disagreed. “I wouldn’t say that.”
Heat bloomed on your cheeks as his meaning sunk in. Sehun understood as well, rolling his eyes and turning away. Cupping your jaw with his fingers, Junmyeon leaned in and kissed you deeply, pulling you in closer.
Yes, he was right. You were truly walking away with the adventure of a lifetime.

Chanyeol as Finn
Chanyeol would make a wonderful Finn not only because he gets a kick out of adventure and devotes himself to living spontaneously but also because that warm heart wouldn’t think twice to help a friend (or creature) in need. Like Finn, he’s got grand ideas for this chaotic world and sometimes gets ahead of himself trying to implement them.
Tumblr media
Baekhyun as Jake
Like Jake, Baekhyun has a great sense of humor, not to mention they’re both super flexible and great at the art of kicking butt (hapkido anyone?). On a more serious note, Baekhyun has a wide circle of fans because he appeals to many people but his inner circle is tight as he is foremost a kindhearted friend to those he holds dear and Chanyeol is certainly no exception!
Tumblr media
Sehun as BMO
At first glance BMO might seem a little clueless and even eccentric considering he talks to a reflection he’s knighted “Football” but like Sehun, he’s very perceptive and as a result has formed an intricate concept of people and the world around him. His loyalty runs deep and let’s not forget how sassy they both can be when the situation calls for it!
Tumblr media
Kyungsoo as Peppermint Butler
Simply put, Peppermint Butler is a mysterious character. Dark powers? Check. While Kyungsoo isn’t a master of the occult, he is very keen and prone to being the best at whatever he does. As a Jack of many trades, he always has to be one step ahead of everyone else. But a butler’s best quality is loyalty to his master and Kyungsoo is an unfailing friend if ever there was one. Just ask Chanyeol.
Tumblr media
Junmyeon as Prince Gumball
The male counterpart to Princess Bubblegum, Prince Gumball is ruler of Oo. Like Junmyeon, he is responsible, intelligent and known for seeking the greater good for his subjects. Junmyeon is characterized by his selflessness, as he oftentimes pushes the achievements of his teammates to the forefront before celebrating himself, making him a successful leader!

the mer king — kim jongin

Tumblr media
You know what he is from the moment you see him, long legs dangling over the starboard side of your docked ship with a mischievous smirk on his plump lips; his striking pink hair moving with the wind as he bathes in the sun. Even standing at the beginning of the dock, you can see his golden-brown skin shimmering with a faint blue and purple hue; he’s captivating, beautiful but you know to be careful - he’s a merman.
There are many dangers in the high seas, if the royal ships fighting to rid the waters of pirates don’t get you then the treacherous tides, storms or other pirates are large possibilities; but the one danger that every seaman fear is the merfolk. The women lure the men to their deaths, they sing songs of doom and crash ships against sharp rocks before consuming the souls. The men are seducers, they tend to wander land more than the woman, for certain reasons; their words are sweet honey and voices alluring to all they wish to lure back to their beds.
You remember being told by your mother about the dangers of mermen, they do not stay. Never fall into the trap set by merfolk – you’ll either become food or a whore.
When the merman sees you staring at him, his smirk grows wider and he easily falls to the dock below. You hear one of the men behind you huff, unimpressed, “those mer lack decency,” he spits before lifting a crate and walking towards the ship. You know what he means, while most of the men aren’t wearing shirts due to the blistering sun – the man walking towards you is only wearing a very fitting pair of shorts.
He stops before you, giving none of the men any attention despite the clear hostility they give him. His eyes shine like crystal blue ocean on a calm day, there are water droplets still clinging to his skin and you notice a clear film between his fingers and toes. The breeze picks up slightly and you sniff in a tantalizing scent, he smells salty and sweet, cotton candy mixed with the homely smell of the ocean and you need to take a step back before you lose yourself.
“Jongin,” he holds out his hand, tilting his head to the side slightly as if wondering if you’ll take it. “I’ve been assigned to help you on your quest.”
His eyes flash with amazement when you shake his hand firmly, lips quirking at the corners but he resists the urge to smile. “Captain Y/N, pleasure to have you join us.” You both know that this may be a slight over-exaggeration because despite the reward you could get if you bring back the crown, the men are not happy with the idea of allowing a merfolk onto the ship.
But Captain’s orders are orders to be followed and you’ve sailed with these men long enough for them to know that you wouldn’t take the risk unless it was worth it – and Poseidon’s Crown is definitely worth it.
Poseidon’s Crown is said to have the power to command all that live in the ocean, to be the King of the Seas. There have only been rumours about its location and every survivor has said the same thing about where it’s said to be: the Devil resides there, his demons destroy the ships and fire boils deep in his bowels. Beware the Devil Sea and his trio of Dragons for they will claim all who dare to cross their waters. They believe the reason is because the crown is protected by the creatures that live there, others put it down to the storms that plague the area and near-constant volcanic activity on surrounding islands to be too dangerous to weigh anchor and rest.
You know that, while most of these rumours hold facts, the real reason why it’s so dangerous to travel is because the merfolk reside there – which is why Jongin is here. It took a while to find someone who could contact merfolk and even then, you never heard back until Jongin was waiting on your ship, on the date you had stated that you’d need someone for.
You both begin to walk down the dock towards the ship, “I assume you’ll want something for assisting us with this, taking humans into the depth of mer territory with guarantee of returning home isn’t the easiest task.” He grins widely and you instantly feel dread travel down your spine; he wants something and from the way he eyes you, it’s not something you want to give him.
He indicates for you to board first, “the ones who will survive are the ones who are willing to listen to someone like me.” Once on the deck, he points his chin towards three burly men glaring at him, “who is to say that they won’t slit my throat while I sleep?”
Jongin needs reassurance, trust that the captain of the ship can keep her men in check because it’s no secret that merfolk are no friends of pirates – they are considered harbingers of death, destroyers of life because no matter whether you are consumed by a mermaid or taken by a merman, there is no coming back. For a woman, you would rather die than to lose everything you’ve worked hard for and live your life known as nothing more than a merman’s whore; you saw it happen once before and you swore that you’d never let yourself be swayed by their natural charms.
Even by one as exquisite as Jongin.
You put your fingers in your mouth and let out a loud whistle, bringing the bustling men around you to a halt and they give you their undivided attention. “This is Jongin,” you announce loud enough that they can hear you from above and below deck, “he is here to help us find Poseidon’s Crown. He is not to be harmed by anyone, if he is then I’ll throw you to the kraken myself.” You place your hand on your sword and straighten your back to show your authority, showing your men that you are not to be messed with.
They grumble in response; they know better than to go against your word because they have seen what you can do first hand and no man here would wish to be on the other side of your sword. You grew up on ships like this, your father being a captain for over 30 years before the sea finally got him. He trained you, had raised you to take over when he finally decided to keep his feet on dry land, though his retirement never came, and the men you sail with today – they are the sons of those who were loyal to your father. The first female captain in your land, a skilled swordswoman and you can navigate through the roughest of storms; you have proven time and time again that you are one to follow, one to trust and if you say not to lay a hand on the merman then they will respect your word.
Allowing them to prepare for departure, you turn to Jongin with a slight bow of the head and make way to your quarters. He follows wordlessly, watching your hips sway as you walk and taking in every detail of your posture, your attire and Jongin begins to analyse you; he wants to know what makes you tick, how to get under your skin because regardless of his reasons for joining you – he naturally cannot resist a challenge like yourself.
You have conquered many seas but Jongin has conquered many women, none have been able to resist him for long but you, you have a willpower he rarely sees and he wants to break it – to break you and claim you. You are his, whether you are aware of your heritage or whether you have no clue, Jongin’s been promised you from the moment he was old enough to know about the mating ceremony.
That is the real reason why he’s here, why he’s decided to help you on your little quest because this benefits him in the end; no matter how this quest ends, he has you.
Tumblr media
The sailing was a little tense in the beginning, none of your men trusted Jongin because of what he is but after nothing but smooth sailing for a week, their nerves finally relaxed. You watch him carefully, he’s more of a danger to you than the rest of the crew but the closer you watch him, the harder you find it to resist him; you manage to, out of sheer will, but he begins to haunt your dreams in ways no other man has.
Jongin can feel your eyes on him, even when you aren’t directly looking at him, he can tell that you’re watching. He smirks as he sits on the bow, feet carelessly dangling over the edge and eyes watching the water below; he wants to jump in, feel the salty ocean surround him but he tosses his head back, hand lazily running through his dry, pink hair as the sun heats his skin. If his reputation as a merman wasn’t something that should be taken seriously, then you would find yourself around him but your mother’s warnings ring in your mind as you focus on the changing wind.
Lifting a hand in the air, Jongin points south-east, indicating to follow the wind and you order your first mate to take over the wheel while you go to talk to your guide. You’ve been out at sea for a week, knowing you’ll be nearing another harbour soon, you decide it’s best to weigh anchor and stock up on supplies. Wandering over to where Jongin is perched, you want to ask him about the best course of action and see if it’s possible for you to head off-course for supplies and allow your men to have a night on land.
“Jongin,” his eyes light up when he turns his head and sees you, the intensity in them causing you to cough nervously, “if we head towards land, how long would it take for us to get back on course for the Devil’s Sea?” He stands up, stretching his lithe, slightly muscular limbs; he walks towards you with pursed lips as he taps his chin.
He hums softly, looking out at the vast ocean before bringing his gaze upon you, “it would depend on the place you wish to go to. Is there a harbour you have in mind or would you like me to recommend one for you?” You need to think about it for a moment, wondering whether it would be wise to be alone with Jongin for a minute without one of your men accompanying you.
He’s posed no threat to you so far, always keeping his distance regardless of his eyes being aware of where you are at all times. Jongin seems to understand his position here, even if your men swore not to hurt him, he takes no risks that would land him in hot water – so to speak.
So, you lead him towards your captain’s quarters, waving a hand dismissively when one of your crew make their way to follow you.
The door closing behind Jongin sounds ominous, foreboding but you pay the uneasiness in your gut no mind when you walk towards the table with a large map spread upon it. Jongin takes place next to you, shoulders touching and sending tingles down your arm but you silently reprimand yourself – you know you can take him in a fight if he tried anything. “Here,” you place a finger on the closest harbour to your approximated location, “we will have to go against the wind but we should make it there by nightfall, if the sea is generous.”
Jongin shakes his head, grabbing your hand and placing it on a different location; the contact from his smooth skin makes your skin erupt with goosebumps and you swallow thickly before jerking your hand out from his. He bites his bottom lip, not wanting to show his intrigue at how you react to him. “We are on course, following the wind; if we stick to this then we would reach this harbour within three days.”
“Three days? We barely have enough food.” You shake your head.
Rolling his eyes, Jongin places a long finger on the map before trailing it towards the Devil’s Sea. “If we follow your plan, it will take us a fortnight to reach our destination – if we get the right conditions.” He looks over at you, watching how you play with your bottom lip between your thumb and index finger – the moment you catch him staring, you stop. “If you follow your guide’s plan,” he emphasises, “then we will reach it within another week.”
This is why you asked, this is why you had reached out for a guide in the first place because as much as pirates think that they know the seas; the seas upon which you sail are these creatures’ home and no one knows it better than merfolk. You begrudgingly agree to his plan, sighing as you try to figure out how to explain that the crew will have to ration. You will do so as well, your position as captain doesn’t mean you get special preference with food and your appetite isn’t as large as theirs so you won’t struggle as much.
When you move to walk past Jongin, he quickly grabs your wrist and pulls you against him. Your palms rest against his firm chest, feeling his heartbeat underneath your fingers. Jongin presses you against the desk, causing your lower half to press into him as you try to lean away; he easily lifts your body so you’re lying on it. His eyes pierce your soul, the shining blue hypnotising you as you feel your own heart pick up in pace, racing against your ribcage as you make no effort to get away.
You should, you should scream and fight him off; it’s what the red flags screaming inside your head are saying but your body is reacting to him.
He breathes in deeply, lowering his head to inhale more of your scent and tracing his nose along your out-stretched neck. “You smell like home,” he whispers, breath hot against your neck. “It’s frustratingly exciting how well you can resist me, how every time I think you’re close to giving in, you find some way to stop yourself.” He lifts his head, meeting your startled eyes and Jongin smirks at how your body gives you away.
Your hands slowly inch upwards, circling around his neck while your body leans into him. His skin is smooth underneath your calloused fingers, his muscles a delicious sight to see and he smells so good that you wonder if that’s what he’d taste like if you allowed your lips to press against his. Your body is reacting exactly how Jongin knows, women throw themselves at him even with the prospect of being labelled as a merwhore; if he shows them the slightest interest, they will do anything for a night with him.
Stories are written about it, about how men have thrown themselves overboard for a mermaid’s kiss, how women have become enamoured by mystery men visiting their harbours only to be left barefoot and pregnant on the docks. Despite the warnings, merfolk are a weakness, they are a fatal attraction that humans cannot resist.
But you seem to do better than anyone else Jongin has ever come across.
You lick your lips, eyes frantically moving as you try to resist him but finding that his hold over you is becoming too strong. “Thi-If the crew see us, I-I cannot guarantee your safety.” He chuckles, nose a breadth away from touching yours.
“If they dare hurt me, I cannot guarantee their safety.” He grins before pressing his plump lips against yours.
You want to pull away, to scream out for help or try and reach for your sword but your body fails you; the moment Jongin kisses you, you lose your will to escape because all you suddenly want is to deepen it. You tangle your fingers in his hair, finding it surprisingly soft despite living in salt water, he growls slightly when you give it a gentle tug; he grips your hips tightly, desperately trying to get his body closer to yours as you lie back on the desk and scatter a few items on the floor.
You’re unaware that the quartermaster is outside your door and the noise has alerted him.
The door is kicked open and in the brief moment of confusion, you manage to push Jongin away from you and stand up straight, adjusting your clothes and trying to calm your breathing. “What’s going on?” The quartermaster bellows, storming into the room and standing between you and Jongin. “Was this fish man tryin’ to seduce ya, Cap?” His glare is equally matched by Jongin’s, his eyes changing slightly to a stormy grey as he bares his teeth.
“Our guide seemed to have forgotten his place for a brief moment,” you place a hand on his shoulder, trying to diffuse the situation. “I’m sorry for alarming you but I can handle myself, I was in no danger.” He looks over his shoulder before returning his glare onto Jongin. There’s a brief moment of testosterone thick silence before he huffs and moves away, allowing you to get past him without having to move in front of Jongin. “I need you to call the crew together as I have an announcement to make,” you walk into your bedchambers, “I’ll be out in a minute.” You receive a curt nod in response and close your doors, your legs giving out the second you are out of sight.
What have you done?
The quartermaster faces Jongin, who is looking like the cat who got the cream, and grabs him roughly by the bicep. “Wipe that smug grin off yer face before I throw ya across the deck.” He growls out, pushing Jongin in front of him towards the door. “Be happy that the capt’n has use for ya, or else I woulda gutted ya like a fish.”
“Be happy that killing you wouldn’t help me in any way otherwise you’d be fish food before the next dawn.” Jongin hisses back. Your crew are a thorn in his side, an obstacle he wishes he didn’t have to deal with but this makes the chase more interesting; you clearly can only resist him for so long, part of you able to have clear thoughts when in Jongin’s presence but you aren’t immune to him.
He would prefer to win you over in more romantic terms but given what you are, the only way he can secure his position as your lover is by seducing your human side and making you want to be with him – the romance can come after.

Tensions are high, growing higher as you try to see through the storm that’s rocking your ship. You yell out to the crew, men scattered here and there as they do their best to keep the boat from veering off course; you’re holding the wheel with a steel grip, looking at Jongin as he shouts out words that are lost to the wind. His eyes meet yours and you would gasp if you weren’t more concerned with the safety of your crew; they are pitch black, like the depths of the deepest ocean, no light inside them as they try to make out the best route through this.
You place your life in his hands, not just yours but the entire crew are counting on him. Jongin knows this, he knows that if he’s to get you there safely then he has to do his best to get you through this storm. He knew it would hit; they are a constant on the border of the Devils Sea but this seems to be hitting harder than he anticipated. “Go north,” he calls out, sighing in frustration when you don’t hear him. He moves closer, lip curling when one of the crew tries to stop him from getting too close.
This has been happening ever since the quartermaster found him with you, a secret pact to keep Jongin away and to say that it’s become a pain in his ass is an understatement. How can he possibly attract you, his future wife, if he’s not even allowed to be near you?
Jongin forcefully shoves the man out of his way, not caring that he nearly loses his balance, “get out of my way or else this entire ship will go down.” He reaches you, grabbing the wheel and your attention, “you need to go north,” he yells, ears catching a sound above the waves, “now!” You’re rightfully confused but you trust him, you have to, so you begin to shout orders.
But it’s too late.
You hear the song grow louder, hear the perfect harmonies over the crashing waves and gale force winds; you watch in horror as your crew freeze and turn in the direction of the singing. “Cover your ears, men!” You scream, but no one hears you.
Jongin’s face pales as he realises what’ll happen, he runs the full length of the ship, standing at the bow and squinting out to the horizon. You are still trying to get your men to listen, finding it hard to navigate the ship when your crew aren’t pulling the ropes; you see Jongin look back at you, his expression hard to make out but you know what he’s conveying.
It’s over.
You failed your mission.
This is the end.
You try your best to steer, trying to do what you can to keep these men alive but it’s to no avail, the ship becomes caught in the rocks and you are battered this way and that by the waves. “Abandon ship!” These words are called the moment the ship comes to a stop, many of the crew already willing to dive into the dangerous waters to find the source of the song.
Jongin appears beside you, tugging at your arm frantically, “we need to leave, quickly,” you look distraught and he gives you a moment to process. “The crew are going to do anything they can to get what they want.” You go to argue but Jongin is over the waiting; the ship is getting destroyed as you continue to mull over whether the captain should go down with her ship. “We need to go,” he tugs you away and you follow him over the starboard side.
The water is freezing when your feet hit it, the clothes you wear weighing you down as you are tossed around by the strong current. You cannot see Jongin, you cannot see anything as the air is pressed from your lungs and you feel the pressure caving in on your chest; you hold the last of your remaining breath, limbs desperately trying to swim upwards but you have lost your bearing on what way is to the surface. Your sight starts to darken and you know that you’re going to die.
This really is the end.
You don’t feel Jongin grab you by the waist, pulling you against him as he swims as fast as he can against the current towards land. He feels your heartbeat slowing and he curses under his breath. Jongin stops briefly, lifting your head and lowering his lips to yours, sharing his breath with you to keep you from drowning. He doesn’t know how much longer you have, so he hurries; he needs to get you to shore before your body truly gives up.
Tumblr media
Your eyes feel heavy when you awaken, your neck stiff and body aching as you try to move. “Don’t,” a deep whisper sounds from beside you and a hand rests on your shoulder, “take your time.” Your vision takes a little while to focus but you slowly see a mop of pink hair hovering above you.
Jongin sighs in relief, he was worried that you weren’t going to wake up and that everything he had worked for was gone; even though he wasn’t going to be able to win you over by helping you get the crown, he can still accomplish his goal of completing the mating ceremony with you.
It’s what he’s been promised.
Every royal mer is betrothed the moment they are born, it’s the law and a way for the lineage to be kept alive. Your birth wasn’t a secret to any royal, a human mother is common amongst merfolk but it was your father that made you special – the Mer King. Your father is the king of all merfolk, his word is law and he has held the crown longer than any King before him; no one has been able to best him in battle and he still has centuries of life left. You may be the illegitimate heir to the throne but you are an heir nonetheless and the only reason you’ve been allowed to live the life you have is because your father has kept Jongin’s family from snatching you.
Your heart must want him.
Despite being announced as Jongin’s betrothed, your father stipulated that you are not to be forced into this ceremony – that it is your choice. That is why Jongin decided to join you on your quest, that is why he never whisked you away at any given moment; he wanted to win you over, to have your heart even if his was bound only by commitment and law. You would love him, want him and he would have you.
Could he love you in return? He used to wonder that, knowing nothing about you other than stories about your conquests but now he has no doubt – he could. He’s watched you, seen you in action and knows you’d be a strong bride, a righteous and fair queen but all he had to do was seduce you, claim you and as simple as that task once seemed to be; you’ve proven to be more difficult than originally thought.
“Where are we?” You sit up, wincing at the stabbing pain in your ribs; Jongin moves to your side, helping you stand. You notice that you are wearing nothing but your undergarments, your clothes dumped on the ground alongside your sword and ruined pistol. “Why did you undress me?”
Jongin can’t help but chuckle at your accusatory tone, “I would love to have undressed you under different circumstances but your clothes would have caused you to get sick, they are waterlogged and dangerous to wear here.” He indicates around you, the storm rages on out at sea, you can just make out the outline of your ship but inland – it’s calm. “We are in the heart of the Devil’s Sea, home of the merfolk.” He takes a deep breath, steadying himself for this revelation as it’ll be the defining factor of everything he’s worked for. “This is your home.”
Tumblr media
You drag your feet behind Jongin, eyes staying on the back of his pink head as he walks with purpose in front of you. You ponder about everything he said to you on the beach; everything you wanted to know and demanded him to explain.
Jongin took the time to explain, leaving out the part about your betrothal to him, he told you about how your father would visit your mother frequently and how he was one of the few mer to never marry – to have fallen in love before marriage. Jongin told you about how he’s always kept an eye on you despite never being in your life and you struggle with this information. Your father was a sailor, died out at sea when you were in your teens but the longer you sat there, listening to everything Jongin said, the less true that seemed to be.
You never looked like your father, there were oddities about you that your mother would consider special – affinity with the ocean, how easy you learnt to swim and how sea creatures seemed to be attracted to you. She always warned you about mermen, more than you’ve ever heard anyone else speak of them; even on her death bed, she made you promise that you wouldn’t let yourself be swayed by the charms of a merman.
You had always thought it strange until it all made sense.
“There’s a cave up ahead,” Jongin’s voice pierces through your thoughts, you follow his outstretched hand and spot the opening, “we’ll camp here for the night before continuing to the kingdom in the morning.”
You push past him, ignoring how warm his skin is against yours when your arms touch, “why don’t we just keep moving? I’m sure my father would love to see me after all the efforts he’s gone through to be in my life.” Your sarcasm doesn’t seem to go down well with Jongin who grabs you by the wrist, halting you. “You’re mighty bold to be handling royalty like this.”
His lip curls, he’ll have to remember to teach you manners when you’re his wife; not that he doesn’t find your feisty attitude extremely attractive, he can’t have other mermen finding such a quality in you a challenge. “You forget that I am also of royal blood.”
“But I’m daughter of the King.” You fire back.
“An illegitimate daughter,” he corrects, a smirk making its way onto his lips when watches you look away in annoyance. He never realised that such defiance could be so much fun, he’s used to his women being compliant and wanting but this is so much better. “Regardless, you are still part human and there are things that enjoy the taste of human flesh.” He doesn’t miss how you shiver slightly, whether it be the cooling temperature or the thought of something hungry to eat you, Jongin knows that he needs to build a fire and get you somewhere safe.
Tumblr media
It doesn’t take long for him to get you warm, the fire crackling nicely while Jongin guts a fish he caught while on the beach. He managed to find a few supplies to bring along with you earlier, while you remained frozen from the information that he had given you; it’s strange behaviour from him because he normally wouldn’t care about your health, your warmth or your appetite. Jongin tells himself that it’s because if you were to die, then his hopes of marrying you would die along with you but he can’t help the slight pain he feels in his chest when he sees you staring lifelessly into the flames.
You don’t need to say it aloud, he can see it on your face; you are in mourning, finally giving yourself a moment to grieve for the lives you lost. He doesn’t know if he should give you words of comfort, to tell you that they died blissfully or if he should reach out and touch you. Human emotions are different to merfolk, the only beings they are attached to are their betrothed and those who share their blood; death is inevitable, life is something they cherish but loving someone other than who they bond with – that is foreign for Jongin.
Yet, you are half human and the love you felt for those men were like that of family.
You eat in silence before thanking Jongin for the food, taking the blanket and wrapping it around yourself, you move towards the makeshift bed you created from foliage found around the cave. You don’t know what you are going to do because sleep is the last thing that you feel like doing but anything is better than the thoughts that are running through your mind; how could your life change so fast in one day?
Jongin watches you, placing another piece of wood on the fire before moving by your side; he doesn’t need a blanket but he still lies down beside you, pressing his back against yours and watching the flames lick at the air while listening to your broken sobs. “I’m sorry,” he mutters, unsure what he’s apologising for.
“I can’t stop seeing their faces,” you whisper, breath hitching as you try to calm yourself, “I can’t stop seeing how it all ends.” That pain is back in his chest, he wants to make you forget it but he can’t offer you much solace for what you are dealing with.
You turn around to face him, tracing the muscles of his back with your eyes. Ever since you shipwrecked on the beach, he’s changed. He did everything to try and seduce you, even when your crew did everything they could to keep him away from you, it didn’t stop him; but now, he seems almost afraid to do anything.
Do you want him to do something?
You aren’t entirely sure what you want, all you know is that you want a moment of peace from the past 24 hours. “Jongin,” your heartbeat quickens when you touch him, feeling the muscles in his arms twitch under your fingertips. He rolls over, bright blue staring down at you; even in the dark, he’s breathtakingly beautiful. You open your lips to say something but words fail you because what would you ask? Beg pathetically for him to have sex with you?
Jongin smirks, lifting a hand to caress your face; he can see the turmoil behind your eyes. You want him, in more ways than physical – which is new territory for both of you; Jongin cannot deny that he wants you too, to somehow take away the hurt you feel but he won’t admit it out loud. He doesn’t know what love is, what it looks or feels like but he knows that if he was to love someone – it would be you.
Less than three weeks with you is proof enough of that.
“I finally get to finish what I started on the ship,” he chuckles and your cheeks blush as you try to brush him off. “You proved to be a challenge, Captain Y/N.”
You swallow thickly, keeping the blanket over your shoulders as you straddle his hips; Jongin drinks you in, a stunningly beautiful woman with a fierce attitude and strong will looking so powerful sitting on top of him. You may be broken and hurting now but Jongin vows that he’ll make you forget – even for a moment.
He pulls you down, lips connecting softly as you melt into him; hands splayed on your back, smooth and warm while yours tangle in his hair. You grind down on him, feeling his erection through your underwear; Jongin smirks into the kiss, enjoying how you continue to rub against him and hearing the sweet little noises you make as you heighten your own arousal. You’re working yourself up, your grip on his soft locks tighten as you sigh; you move your crotch along the length of his bulge and the more aroused you get, the wetter the mark you leave.
He shivers and groans, eyes fluttering shut when he feels your wetness seep through his tight shorts. “Fuck, I thought I was a tease,” his voice is thick with lust, teeth biting into his bottom lip as he lifts his hips with every stroke you make.
You’re hasty, standing up to quickly pull off your underwear while Jongin releases his cock from his shorts. You hover above him and hold him gently, lining him up with your heated entrance; the stretch is blissful, filling you completely as you take a moment to adjust. Every thought, everything you felt until this moment washes away as your body and mind focuses completely on Jongin; you think of nothing but the feel of him inside you, the warmth of his body against yours and you let yourself become lost in him.
Jongin lets you set the pace, gives you complete control as you slowly move your hips; he watches your eyes close, your lips part slightly as you feel every inch of him inside you. His hands rest on your waist as you begin to lift yourself up, his cock sliding out before it is enveloped once more; you start moving faster, bouncing on his cock and letting your soft moans grow in volume.
The sound of skin slapping against skin and your collective moans echo around the cave, Jongin’s salty sweet scent is mixed with the potent smell of sex and the air feels like a cool comfort against your burning, sensitive skin. Worries and pain forgotten as you grow closer and closer to your climax, Jongin can feel how close you are, trailing a hand from your waist to your clit and watching in delight as you bite your lip at the added stimulation.
You clench around him, crying out his name as the orgasm washes over you; Jongin follows shortly after, lifting his hips and holding you down as he releases inside you. You collapse on top of him, catching your breath before rolling off him and facing the back off the cave; an arm wraps around you, lips pressing against your shoulder as Jongin pulls you closer to him. “Isn’t this where you disappear into the night, leaving me with nothing but a memory?” You stare into the dark, feeling him chuckle against you.
“I guess you’re different,” he replies, breathing you in as he smiles victoriously.
You want to scoff, normally those words from the Jongin you’ve known over the last few weeks would seem like some corny line but this feels different, he feels different – you feel different. A lot has changed in the past day, the life that you knew was a lie and the life you’ve lived now shipwrecked and unsalvageable; you did what you never thought you would do, sleeping with a merman and there’s a part of you that would do it again but only with Jongin. You knew you would eventually break, everything about him captivating you from the moment you laid eyes on him but the trust and respect he’s gained from you has caused you to feel more attracted to him than you thought would have been possible.
Love is a ridiculous thought but it’s moving in that direction.

“Your father wishes to see you,” Jongin returns back to his home, smiling as he sees you admiring the outfit he had bought you. When you arrived at the kingdom, he informed you that you would need a wash and new change of clothes if you were going to meet your father; this was an occasion the kingdom has been waiting for, the only heir to the throne finally returning home and taking her place.
The idea sent goosebumps over your skin, it took the entire walk here to think about it and try to forget what had happened the day before; it took the entire walk to think about what you would say or what you would do when you met your real father – the Mer King. The kingdom has always expected you to stay, expected you to take over the throne but you aren’t sure if that’s what you want.
You’re a pirate, the sea is in your blood; could you really give that life you love up to stay stranded on this island, living a life that is foreign to you?
You didn’t know when you entered the kingdom after pondering over it for hours and even standing in front of the mirror, feeling Jongin’s gaze on you as you admire the skin tight coral dress, you still don’t know what you are going to do. Jongin comes to stand behind you, confidently placing his hand on the small of your back as he licks his lips and drinks you in. “We look good together,” he purrs into your ear, “I wouldn’t mind a repeat of last night.”
You inhale deeply, closing your eyes as you imagine how it might feel if you weren’t inside a cave and instead on the luxurious bed Jongin has. “Well, as tempting as that sounds, I don’t want to keep the King waiting.”
“You’re basically a princess,” he twirls you around before circling his arms around you and capturing you against him. “You can do what you please.”
The way his skin shimmers is a sight you’ll never forget, the deep blue and purple hues against his golden skin reflects against your own skin. “Then you must be a prince,” his blue eyes shine brighter with your words.
“If you married me, you’d make a fine queen.” You laugh loudly, shoulders shaking as you moved away from him and towards the door. “I’m serious, imagine what we could do together.” He reaches for you but you are quicker this time.
“We barely know each other, marriage is for people who are in love,” you shake your head, vanishing the thought.
“We could,” Jongin interjects. “One day.”
You brush his words off, not wanting to think further about them, you’ve had enough thinking, enough torturing yourself with what ifs or what could have been. You wave a hand dismissively as you walk out the door, Jongin following quickly behind you; he keeps pace with you even with your ‘woman on a mission’ stride, but he doesn’t dare speak in case you tell him to leave.
You don’t stop until you reach the palace, staring up at the large structure and wondering what life would have been like if you were raised here. “You would have been treated like the most precious gift to merfolk,” Jongin leans closer, whispering the words. You look surprised, his words giving you the answer you are looking for but you are unsure how; his smirk gives nothing away because telling you that you are an open book once you know what to look for, could cause you to keep your guard up around him.
That is something Jongin doesn’t want.
Tumblr media
The king is sitting on his throne, waiting for your arrival; there are murmurs around the room as people watch you walk in, head held high with Jongin by your side. You must look like quite the sight, nobody really knowing what to expect but from the odd comments you do manage to pick up – they know that you’re a pirate captain.
“My dear Y/N,” his voice booms around the hall, he stands up with arms spread wide, “look at the fine woman you’ve become. Beautiful like your mother and a tamer of seas like your father.” His laugh is jovial, his eyes crinkle with his smile and you can’t help but feel a warmness from him; a small connection to him despite not ever knowing of his existence.
You look at Jongin, his head bowed in respect. “Why do I feel like I know him?” You mutter so that only he can hear you.
Jongin looks up, giving the king a smile before inclining his head towards you, “he’s your father, you are half merfolk so the connection we feel with our blood will be something you feel too.” You make a sound of acknowledgement, nodding your head as you look back up at the man beaming down at you. “It’s a bond that merfolk who are family feel, blood or married.” Jongin hastily tells you and you look over to question him but the king speaks before you can.
“You did well to bring my daughter home, Jongin,” he bows again, thanking his majesty for the recognition. “I wish that it was under different circumstances that she stands with us.” You feel a slight pang in your chest, knowing he’s referring to the storm and the loss of your crew, “nonetheless, she is here and as promised, we can begin the mating ceremony on the next full moon.”
“What?” The words leave your lips before you have time to think about it, everyone looks at you as you take a shaky step back. Jongin’s eyes meet yours and you can see the apology swimming inside them, “I am not-” You shake your head, a laugh of disbelief escaping your lips as you move further away from him.
The king motions for you to be left alone, guards making no move to stop you from taking your leave as you run out of the room. You can hear Jongin calling out to you but you don’t care to stop, don’t care to know where you’re going; you see faces look in your direction, curious and alarmed at the strange woman running aimlessly through the streets.
You don’t know where to go so you run to the only place you know.
Tumblr media
“You didn’t tell her,” the king stands beside a shocked Jongin.
He shakes his head, hair shaking around his forehead, “I didn’t want her to think that was the reason why I brought her back.”
“But it was?” The question causes Jongin to shrug, uncertain now of his own intentions. “She is only yours to marry if she loves you; in your quest of finding her and bringing her home, did you fall in love with her?”
He doesn’t know what to say, Jongin knows that over time he could grow to love you but the idea of loving you before he married you never occurred to him. “I don’t want to force her to stay, in the time I’ve gotten to know her, I know that she loves the sea and being in charge but I want her to stay – I want her to want me.” Your father claps a hand on his shoulder, silently walking away from Jongin and in the direction you ran.
A father wants their daughter to follow their heart, even at the pain of losing them from their sight; if being a pirate and sailing the seas is what you want then he will give it to you but if you wish to stay, he’ll get to know the daughter he’s missed out on.
With help, the Mer King finds you at Jongin’s home, sitting on the couch with tears in your eyes. You look up when you hear the door close, expecting to see Jongin but surprised to see the king. “Are you here to force me to marry Jongin?” He offers you a sad smile as he sits next to you, his presence offering you a small comfort.
“No, my child,” he sighs deeply, sounding older than he looks, “Your betrothal to Jongin may have been decided long ago, but I’ve always wanted you to marry out of love.”
You scoff, “then why didn’t you marry my mother? Why did you leave us?” He doesn’t have the right words to say, knowing that any words he could say would mean little to nothing to you in the state you are in. “Do I really have a choice in this?”
The king wraps an arm around you, pulling you into his side like he’s wanted to for years, “you can choose to do whatever you want and no one will stop you.” He looks down at you with emerald green eyes, “you are the daughter of the King, there is no one on the seven seas who could dare to challenge your decision. If you want to leave, I will provide you with the best ship and the finest of crews; you can come and go as you please without fear of any storm.” You hear the door open, paying no attention to the man who slips inside quietly.
“What if I wanted to stay? What if I wanted to get to know my father, to have the chance to fall in love and learn about the heritage that I’ve missed out on but also still be free to go where I want and find treasures that no man could discover?” It’s quiet for a moment and you are sure he would deny you that, giving you the choice of either staying or going and nothing else.
Yet, his words surprise you. “There is no man brave enough to deny you,” he chuckles softly, eyes looking briefly at Jongin before returning to you, “is that what you want?”
You take a deep breath, lifting your eyes to meet Jongin’s before placing your fate in his hands, “that depends on him.”

Two Pairs of Trouble: The Second Part Of Many
This is a collaborative project with the account @jongins-laceglove. We both hope you enjoy the second installment of this series! We work hard on them!
Once Upon A Time...
“We need you to get us home.” Mark choked out, his voice shaken with fear and shock. “Renjun. Our magic is muted while we’re here. Look at Jisung, he was throwing up the most powerful magic in our kingdom as soon as we arrived here. And, you must know, Fairyland civilizaians live on magic. We use it as our medicines, our tools, our food. Everything there is magic. And, we’re not there. Which means we might die by tomorrow if we can’t find a certain magic source to keep us going. Your magic, however...it holds what we need. Phoenixes come from our world, you share blood with our kind. Your magic is what can save us all and get us home. It might sound like a big responsibility, but we need one of your feathers.”
Renjun nodded at him, silent tears running down his face once again, and taking a shaking breath. “Well.... I’m going to be molting soon. Probably within the next 12 hours. It definitely shouldn’t be a problem to give you a feather.”
He blinked rapidly, trying to calm the tears, and himself, as he looked at Mark with a broken look in his eyes. Why.. why had he done that. And why couldn’t he undo it? It was so unfair. Why, why, why?! Why had it been him. Why had it been them...
He shook his head, clearing his thoughts and his throat. “Anyways, we need to figure out how this is going to work... I’ll need to be at my house, out deep in the woods. Are you all going to come with us? It’s definitely big enough to house us all, if you need somewhere to stay.”
“We most likely be able to figure this out quickly. But, we could always split into housing groups if that’s alright...one moment I...I think...” Jaehyun added, considering something, grabbing one of the broken halves of the wooden staff and snapping off a small piece. He lightly stabs his hand, green blood flowing down. “Green. Elves have purple blood, normally. Green blood means we’re poisoned. I may be fine, it could be Hefferson sickness for all I know. Xiaojun should be fine, his magic comes from shadows. All he has to do is steal someone’s shadow to keep himself going. Our Fairies may need familiars, Elves run on solar power, and Chenle will probably be fine on his own. What I’m saying is that this can be solved with the right skills and items. Familiars may be hard to find but we can figure that out. I would suggest we figure out groups as well, if we’re sticking with that plan.”
Renjun nodded his head thoughtfully at this. “Right... so, at my cabin, there are lots of animals.. I actually rescue them as a hobby, since I have nothing better to do..” he trailed off thoughtfully and sat there for a second, until he snapped his fingers in realization. “Ah! And I have rooms with overhead windows, so that might help with the solar thing...”
Yixing stepped forward “And I can help get you all safely and quickly to the cabin. I can teleport three people at once, not including myself.”
Minseok also stepped forward “Me too. I may not look it, but I can actually fly quite fast.”
Yixing nodded “Yes, believe me. I can teleport and he manages to be able to keep up at an impressive rate, considering he’s flying.”
Fairy Jisung considered, finally making a decision on his own.
“I don’t need help. I have wings. So does Haechan. Don’t underestimate me, cowards. If you tell me where the place is I’ll take Chenle with me. I’m not disabled, jeez.”
“We can’t risk you collapsing mid-air,” Jaehyun started, “And, we don’t know how this has affected us.”
“Then I’ll try it, damnit!”
Jisung stormed outside, standing in the middle of the road and taking a deep breath. Not wanting to risk it, he removed his shirt and tied it around his waist. The tattoos were scurrying around his built body, some pinching at his skin, yet he kept his confident glare. Double tapping the side of his body, wings sprouted out of his back. They were black and red and elegant. Glitter slowly flowed down the bottom half of his butterfly-like wings, each curve and detail of the set pulsing with magic and power. A pair of two, insanely sharp, talons reached out of his shoulder blades and curved up to eye level. He smirked, squaring up his posture and pushing off the ground. The pavement crumbled beneath him as he hovered in the air, looking beyond the town. Blood stained the entire region, civilians were going on a rampage with madness. It was Jisung’s perfect dream. Chaos.
Doing a backflip and setting himself back down onto the ground, he tripple tapped his side which made the wings and blades retract. He then glanced back into the café, giving those inside a thumbs up and walking back in.
“Well, I think that answers it.”
Yixing sighed, stressed out at the boy. “Fine. You can fly. But if you feel faint, please, please I’m literally begging you to PLEASE let us know. I’m not risking any more deaths and injuries.”
Renjun pulled Chanyeol to a corner of the cafe, snatching up his book. “Alright, Chan. I’m going to write down the location of my cabin on here, and what I want you to send a mental image to everyone.” He said, glancing over to Baekhyun. Baekhyun nodded and picked up the pen on the table, throwing it over to him, and it nearly impaled his hand.
“BYUN BAEKHYUN IM GOING TO BURN OFF ALLTHE HAIR ON YOUR HEAD AND MAKE YOU BALD IF YOU TRY THAT AGAIN!!” Renjun shrieked, furious with the raccoon.
However, this didn’t phase Baekhyun in the least. He rolled over o the ground laughing. “Fine then, bastard. You have to sleep with Yixing tonight.” He snarled out at baekhyun.
THAT got to him.. he froze instantly, and shot up, now sitting upright on the floor, staring dead into Renjun’s eyes that were glinting red in annoyance. “You wouldn’t..” he gasped at Renjun.
Renjun simply narrowed his eyes at him. “oh, i would.” He whispered out, looking away. He quickly wrote the information down on the paper, setting the pen down and closing his eyes, concentrating and the paper burst into flames, the ashes floating away. “There you go, Chanyeol. Now it’s easier to send them. I’m assuming you’ve never done this before?”
Chanyeol nodded at him, confused because he highly doubted he was a telepathic.
Renjun simply rolled his eyes, and reached his middle and index fingers up to Chanyeol’s temples, closing his eyes as he tried his best to tear down whatever little block Chanyeol had in his mind.
Chanyeol felt it. He felt the shift, and it was physically as well as his temples burned in the shape of an ancient symbol that he’d recognized from one of his first ever visions, that’s he’d brushed off. He gasped as his eyes flashed white for a second.
“Fell better?” Renjun said as he pulled his hands away from Chanyeol’s head.
Chanyeol nodded dumbly, and closed his eyes as he focused, hard.
The room went silent as everyone received the coordinations of Renjun’s cabin in the woods, and a visual representation as well.
“Well that does it!” Fairy Jisung nodded to himself, scooping up his Chenle and holding him bridal style. “Let’s go, brat.” Walking outside, he tapped his side, causing the wings and talons to reach out again. He then flew off, Haechan following shortly after holding Mark.
Jaehyun sighed, pinching his temples together. The Elf looked at the group of locals, giving them an unsure and worried glance.
“Kind of late but, don’t pair our Jisung and Chenle together. They’ll fight and probably try to kill each other. I wouldn’t place Haechan and Mark together, either. And I’m pretty sure Xiaojun gets seperation anxiety when I’m not by his side 27/9. Once again I don’t know how long we’ll be here but I would bet for at least a week. If you can provide basic needs we’ll be sure to figure out a way to gift you in the future. How does that sound?”
Renjun and Yixing nodded their heads in understanding. “Okay, that’s understandable. I’ll figure everything out.” Renjun said.
“Okay, so.. I suppose we should get going, then. Yixing, go ahead and take Jaehyun, Xiaojun, and Baekhyun. I’ll take Chanyeol, Chenle and Jisung.”
They nodded at him and look at the members they were supposed to take.
Xiaojun held tightly onto his hat, afraid of losing it somehow. He had secrets in that hat, and can’t risk losing it.
“Will it hurt?” He asked, putting the menu he was holding down. Jaehyun nodded along with him, questioning that as well.
Yixing smiled a warm, genuine smile. “Of course not! At the very most you’ll be a little dizzy and you’ll feel kind of tingly.” He said gently.
The Elf seemed unsure, but agreed anyways.
Suddenly, Xiaojun’s red hat shook violently in his hands, a small dragon peeking its’ head out. He gasped, pushing it back in. The dragon yelped, not listening and peeking its’ head out once more. The dragon’s scales were blue and black, and it had a small built. Xiaojun blushed, awkwardly looking away.
“S-Sorry, she wanted to come along with me this morning...I couldn’t say no...”
Renjun gasped, his eyes softening signifigantly. “Oh my god, is that a dragon?! I love dragons! They’re one of my favorite animals to rescue! And I also collect little dragon figurines. Did I mention I love dragons?” He said, jumping up and down, shaking his fists in front of him.
Xiaojun nodded, smiling and taking out the small dragon. He placed her on his shoulder.
“I have three more at home. This is Zene. At home are Iago, Igomen, and Caliban. They’re all babies.” Zene nipped at his ear and he giggled in response. “I’m quite fond of reading human books. If possible, I could bring one the next time we return. Iago, Igomen, and Caliban are named after my favorite characters. Zene is named after Brother.”
“You had a brother?” Jaehyun asked.
“No, I had a sister. Her name was Brother, but her pen name was Zene.”
“Ah...”
Renjun nodded, his eyes still wide glittering in awe. “She’s gorgeous..” he mumbled.
Minseok cleared his voice “anyways.. we should get going. And I think we all need rest.” He looked over everyone, noticing how they looked particularly rough.
Renjun nodded his head slowly. “Alright. Let’s get going then, shall we?” He said, walking for the door.
Jaehyun followed behind Renjun, then Xiaojun (and Zene), then everyone else. Once in the open, Jaehyun decided to speak up.
“I’m telekinetic. I could probably use something for air transportation if it makes things easier. Once again, I’m solar powered. Sorry for not mentioning earlier...”
“Zene isn’t good with heights.” Xiaojun muttered, putting his hat back on and feeling something crash onto his head. He let out a confused wince, lifting his hat to reveal yet another dragon. This one was gold and white, and was quite chubby. The gnome groaned, sighing. “I guess Iago snuck out along with Zene.”
Renjun squealed loudly at the second baby dragon. “ᵀᴴᴱᵞ'ᴿᴱ ˢᴼ ᶜᵁᵀᴱ ᴼᴴ ᴹᵞ ᴳᴼᴰ” he said softly, his hand subconsciously reaching out before he realized and put his hand back down. He cleared his throat, trying to compose himself.
Chanyeol snickered at him before Baekhyun noisily whacked him on the back of the head and whisper scolded him.
Yixing walked up to Jaehyun, Xiaojun and Baekhyun, as Renjun wrapped his arms around Chenle and Jisung’s waists and Minseok wrapped his arms around Chanyeol’s in a tight hug, so as to keep him secure.
Yixing looked at them “Alright, I’m going to need you guys to hold hands in a small circle, okay?” He said, a hopeful twinkle in his eye.
They all nodded, following his instructions. Zene and Iago settled onto Xiaojun’s shoulders, Iago quickly falling asleep.
“Here we go.”
「㊆」「㊆」「㊆」「㊆」「㊆」「㊆」
“What’s taking them so long?” Fairy Jisung sighed, sitting on the front porch of Renjun’s cabin along with Chenle, Haechan, and Mark.
A gust of wind hit their faces, and in front of them suddenly stood the group they were waiting for. Xiaojun was calming down Zene while Iago nipped at his ear. Jaehyun’s hair was wooshed back, making his apperance more fitting for an Elf like him. Deer Chenle shot up, running over to his doppelgänger and jumping back and fourth happily.
“You guys made it!!” He screeched, looking at the crowd and bouncing around to everyone. The deer stopped at Renjun, smiling like an idiot. “Your home is very..uh...MARK WHAT’S THE WORD FOR IZCIUS??!?!?”
The Elf flinched, thinking for a moment before speaking up.
“Uhhhh...Nice?”
“Thank you!! Your House Is Very Nice!!!!” He said carefully, a huge grin on his face afterwards.
Renjun pulled his wings into his back as he let go of chanyeol, and they disappeared into delicate ashes into the wind.
“Well then, guess we go here just in time.. but thank you, Chenle! I decorated it all myself!” He said.
Renjun reaches into the front of his shirt and pulled out a chain with a red key on the end, and pulled it off his head.
He unlocked the large wooden door and walked into the huge cabin, everyone following behind him.
He walked through the open space, past the living room on his right and into the kitchen that was just to the left of the massive stairs that led to the second floor- and pulled out some cups.
Chanyeol reached forward towards a potted plant to his left, where the sun was gently caressing it’s leaves through the many windows throughout the house, mesmerized.
Mouse Jisung bounced over to the couch, and sat down cross-legged on it, and relaxed under the sun. He giggled when a few small kangaroo mice that Renjun had rescued hopped onto his foot and up to his leg.
Baekhyun wandered over to a corner where there were raccoons playing on the branches of a small tree. As he reached to pet one, another jumped onto his shoulder, playing with his ears as another sniffed his fingers, and about three more padded to sniff at his feet.
Tiger Chenle chuckled a rumbling laugh as a few particularly large house cats ran over to him, swatting at his tail. And playing at his feet.
Minseok smiled to himself as he saw some humming birds fluttering around a rack of flowers that had grown in through an open window. He walked over to another window to gaze at the small pond he saw outside where a family of ducks and ducklings paddles around in, and he could faintly hear them quacking.
Fairy Jisung and Deer Chenle all stood or sat next to their doppelgängers, watching them closely and curiously. Jisung was trying to find the differences in their faces, while Chenle happily sang as he was playing with a cat.
Xiaojun placed his hat by the door and let Zene&Iago wander the house. Zene preferred to shyly slink onto the floor, and Iago jumped right off, landing on the ground with a ‘boom’.
Haechan glanced around the house, his lips slightly parted in awe. In his eyes, the house was a mansion. You never got something as nice as this in Fairyland. Hell, even in Xymore places like this one were only for the most important of people, like Kings or Queens. Mark allowed himself to freely explore the house, examining each and every unfamiliar item. He finally stopped at a TV, tilting his head in confusion.
“Renjun, what’s this?” The Elf looked towards the Phoenix, pointing towards the television.
Renjun furrowed his brows and stared at him in confusion for a few seconds. Then he gasped in realization, and let a dragged out ‘ooohhhhhh...’
“That’s a TV! We can watch videos and movies on it!” Renjun said, hoping it would help even a little bit.
“What’s a movie? Video?” He seemed even more confused, staring back at the ‘TV’ and giving it a cautious glare.
Renjun padded over, and stopped in front of the stained wooden shelf he had on either side of the TV, and pulled out a white album that had a holographic border on it, and a black spine.
“Basically, with something we can call a camera- it we can record certain moments. It’s like if someone were to paint a picture of something, but we can see them happening and hear it, as if it were really happening! And we can also make music. Typically, these kind of things are recorded on something called a ‘CD’, or a ‘disk’.” He said, raising his album and opening it, pulling out a plain disk and slipping it into the opening at the bottom of the tv.
“I like to make my own music sometimes, actually!” Renjun said as he clicked a button on the underside of the TV, and delicate classical music started to fill the room.
Mark gasped, startled. He stumbled back and fell on his butt, his eyes wide with shock and awe. He’d never come across something like this before. It was so foreign to him, he was actually scared. The instruments sounded so familiar, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. Mark slowly stood up and made his way over to the TV, examining it in curiosity.
“Where’s the sound coming from? Why would you need a box so huge to play such a small song? Is it because there’s a small orchestra in it? Why would you enslave small creatures to play such beautiful music over and over?” He seemed concerned, tapping the screen softly.
“Aahhh no, nothing like that! That’s just the screen- it’s big because the pictures are big! And I’d never enslave anybody or anything- that’s just the sounds on the disk! The thing I put it into plays the sound, and it comes out of something called a speaker.” Renjun said frantically.
An odd, fluffy, small creature walked up to Mark, sending his distress away and sniffing at his feet, bouncing gently a few times at him, almost as if it wanted to be picked up.
Mark tilted his head once more, picking up the creature. He cradled it, humming an old lullaby to it. The animal was quite round and furry, it’s eyes like marbles. A familiar face to the Elf, as he had grown up with this certain species. Something about it made him forget all of what he’s learned over the years, a sense of nostalgia for him. He softly cried, bringing the cute (yet confused) animal closer to his body.
“Sosto...” Mark whispered, ignoring the world around him that was endlessly spinning around his head. Tightropes of red spindling back together. A sea of sand becoming a beach. And for a moment, everything was okay.
Renjun smiled fondly at the two, and decided that the situation had been handed. For now.
He turned to see Yixing sitting cross legged on the dark wooden floor, as birds and small animals surrounded him.
Renjun walked over, and tapped his shoulder.
“Hey, Yixing.”
Yixing looked up at Renjun with bright lilac eyes that were almost glowing.
“Hmm?” He let out, holding a small turtle in turtle in his hands.
“I... I think I’m going to start molting again soon.” Renjun said quietly. He had felt it for a while now- the way his insides burned and itched faintly, the way his skin tingled and buzzed... yeah, there was no mistaking it. He was going to start within the next couple of hours.
Now, dear reader. We must mention that molting is a very painful process. It burned and scratched and stung one’s body in a rapid and painful succession. Many may be bedridden for multiple days.
Mark got back onto his feet, holding ‘Sosto’ closely and keeping himself as calm as possible. Enough of this boy, shall we move on to our very special Deer Boy?
Yes, we shall.
Chenle tapped his doppelgänger’s shoulder, taking quick notice of the way his ears were striped and unfamiliar.
“Hey, what are you again?”
Tiger Chenle flicked his ears “I’m a tiger hybrid. Why?” He said, tilting his head at the deer.
Our Deer let out a soft laugh at that, a cheerful smile on his face.
“What’s a tiger? I don’t think they have those where I’m from?”
Chenle’s jaw dropped for a second as he stared at the deer. “O-oh? Well.. tigers are the largest species of felines that we have. They’re predatory, and they don’t typically live around here, but my family moved after most of my relatives passed away.” He said, hoping that this would be a good enough explanation.. considering how he’s never really had to explain what a tiger was.
“Oh...cool!!!!” He jumped up, spinning in a circle. His smile seemed to spread around the room like the plague, even making Fairy Jisung crack a small grin.
Jaehyun sighed, tapping Mark and bringing him onto the front porch, where he brought out a pack of handmade cigarettes. Relived, Mark gladly took one and lit it. The cigarettes in Fairyland were specially made for Elves and their awareness. Even children Elves smoked on occasion. Jaehyun lit one as well, looking out at the forest beyond him and sighing.
“I thought Sostos were extinct?” He mentioned, signaling the black-eyed creature that was clinging to the other’s shirt.
“I thought so, too. Apparently they’re not extinct here.”
“Duh, you’re holding one.”
“Shut it.”
“Nah.”
Jaemin jumped off a tree branch, landing on the soft shaded floor of the forest where the only sunlight was the little specks that broke through the leaves. He let out a hefty ‘oof’ as Jeno fell on top of him, not nearly as gracefully.
They giggled as they rolled around on the ground, and even more so when the foxes they were playing with jumped on them, licking their hands and faces.
They froze when Yixing suddenly appeared in front of them, and stood up quickly, dusting themselves off.
“Hey! Renjun is going to start his molting soon. Do you guys want to come along?” Yixing said, all too chipper.
Jeno gulped and nodded reluctantly. Yixing nodded back and grabbed their hand, and in an instant they were gone.
Renjun sighed on his spot on the couch, torn between going outside and try to get to know Mark and Jaehyun a bit better, and helping the others try and get settled.
He sat there for a few minutes before he mumbled “fuck it” under his breath, shoving himself off the couch and walking slowly over the door. He tried to open it slowly and quietly, the fact that it was an old door completely leaving his mind, before it squeaked noisily, startling the poor boys.
The Sosto’s claws dug into Mark’s skin and he groaned in pain, blood beginning to stain his white shirt. Jaehyun only let out a soft laugh, blowing out a puff of smoke and closing his eyes. The other Elf turned to look at Renjun, scooting closer to Jaehyun to give him more room. Both were deathly quiet, Mark occasionally chuckling to himself. It was a strange sight to see for those who are uneducated about Elves, but for the two it was completely normal.
Blue Roses patterned the path in front of them, shooting up from the ground, blossoming with beautiful shades and colors. It was sudden and quite terrifying, but the Elves weren’t surprised. One even decided to speak up, which was Jaehyun.
“So that’s what I saw...” He chuckled lowly, opening his eyes and standing up. “Renjun, you might want to stay.”
The Elf put out his cigarette, flinging it somewhere into the woods and walking down the path of blue flowers. About a mile down was a porcelain doll, his body littered with cracks and blue flowers. The doll was clothed with a long skirt and a loose shirt that was tucked into the skirt. Both articles of clothing were made of porcelain, and they made a ‘click’ing noise as he approached closer. Jaehyun met the doll in the middle, not surprised of the return of his friend.
“Thought you were dead.” The Elf held the doll’s hand, beginning to walk towards the cabin.
“I was...but that doesn’t matter. Where am I?”
“Dalyrion. I’ll explain later. For now, I want you to meet someone.”
The Doll nodded softly, following behind the other at a quick pace. Blue roses wilted one by one as they walked, the last two turning to ash as they approached the steps.
His eyes shone and glittered in the light, a break in his skin from being re-glued together. The doll stared curiously at the man in front of him, blush-painted lips slightly parted. His hair was ice white, almost transparent, with soft blue tips as it swooshed up from the wind.
“You look like me. But, you definitely are not me. Because I am not tan and do not wear colors that are not white or blue. I also do not own a cabin in the middle of the woods, yet I know someone who does. So, why do we mirror each other?” He spoke, his voice soft yet broken.
Phoenix Renjun stood up as he saw him. He smiled softly at him, and spoke delicately “I’m not quite sure about that. But there has to be a reason. I’m sure of it.. I just haven’t found it.” He said, looking at the ground and losing the confidence in his voice gradually.
He blinked, and tilted his head as he took in the boy- and the beautiful clothes that he wore.
Renjun gasped as he felt something cold on his finger- and when he looked down, he saw a small, dark green lizard like creature that had gold speckled scales on the tip of its nose, that tapered out down its back. He smiled fondly and picked Cryxon - his favorite out of the baby dragons he’d rescued and scratched under his chin.
He smiled up at the porcelain Renjun, all previous fears and insecurities gone as he now had his best friend in his arms.
“This is Cryxon! I rescued him almost immediately after he’d been born. A wild Griffin had attacked their nest when the mother was away, and he was the only survivor.. poor thing lost both his wings, though.” He said, making a show of raising Cryxon slightly in his arms, and nodded his head towards the two scars on his back.
Our Porcelain Boy took a step back, realizing that he was indeed taller than his double. Out of respect, he removed his heeled shoes and held them. The doll cracked a small smile, pulling a blue rose from his pocket and holding it out.
“Gift, for you.”
Jaehyun knew what that flower meant. It meant bad. It meant danger. He did a double take, shooting back up from the steps and pushing the Phoenix out of the way and taking the rose. His hand began to sprout thorns, the flower latching onto him and not letting go.
“Bad, Renjun! We need him to get home!” He slapped Doll’s face, the rose detaching and turning to ash. “Just because you don’t like him doesn’t mean that you have to kill him!”
“S-Sorry, sir...” Renjun hid his face in his hands, trembling like no one’s ever seen. The boots fell from his grasp, shattering into millions of pieces on the soft ground. “I-I’m jealous...”
Renjun spluttered at the scene in front of him, holding Cryxon tighter and feeling him snuggle into his chest.
“W-what? I’m sorry, I should probably leave... it was nice to meet you.” He said sweetly to the porcelain version of himself, and turning to walk off to the left- towards the lake where he preferred to go through his molting process at, but was still a calming place to be.
He got about two yards away before he yelped, and gently tossed Cryxon onto a small rock beside the warm path next to him as he felt an all too familiar sharp searing pain shoot though him, and he fell to his knees, arms wrapped around his waist.
“G-go get Yixing and Minseok, please..” he managed to groan out though gritted teeth and the waves of pain he felt.
Mark calmly got up, heading inside and making his way over to Minseok and Yixing.
“I think your Renjun is dying.” He said all too casually, the Porcelain Renjun shuffling behind him and hiding. Mark took notice of that, stepping aside and smiling. “But our Renjun is alive and well.”
Gasps and words of shock were heard among the room, along with a very angry growl from Fairy Jisung.
“I thought I killed you, damnit!” Fairy yelled, the doll cowering beneath himself, hiding his head and beginning to weep.
“Minseok, Yixing, Renjun asked for you. He kinda fell. I don’t know what’s going on.” Mark continued.
Minseok and Yixing jumped up simultaneously, wide eyed and obviously concerned.
“Shit shit shit shit shit... this is supposed to happen, not so fast.. SHIT!” Minseok muttered out, and he bolted for the door- Yixing not far behind.
They burst through the door, and it slammed against the door, making Everyone wince as the loud crack rang out in the silent panic.
“Renjun! Are you okay? What happened?!” Yixing said as he skidded to a halt right in front of Renjun, who was now laid flat against the ground, wheezing as he tried to breathe. sheen of sweat coating his forehead and neck, and Yixing pulled his sleeve up, and put his wrist up to Renjun’s forehead.
“Oh my god, you’re burning up..” he moved to check his pulse, and his heart was racing.
He glanced up anxiously at the others as he put the pieces together.
“Minseok... I’m going to need you to lead them all to the lake.” His eyes shifted through the crowd, and his eyes landed on the porcelain renjun.
“You.. I need to come with me.” He waved him over with haste.
The Doll pointed to himself, bewildered.
“M-me...y-you mean me...?” He stuttered, slowly making his way over to Yixing. Blue flowers shot up behind him, wrapping around the boy’s ankles which formed a pair of sandals made of thorns and petals. He winced at the other Renjun, crying softly. Golems are sympathizers, it’s in their blood. “W-Whats gonna happen...why d-do you need me...?”
Yixing smiled fondly at him “Well, you got here last, and I’d like to get to know you a bit better. And also, I need someone to just be there with me while I try to make sure he gets through this smoothly.” He said as he wrapped his arm around phoenix Renjun’s shoulders, pulling him close with a hand outstretched for renjun go take.
The fragile boy carefully took Yixing’s hand, tensing up.
“Are you going to hurt me like everyone else...?” He whispered, looking him in the eyes.
Yixing recoiled at that, and his hand tightened slightly on doll Renjun’s hand reassuringly, a look of concern flashing in his eyes.
“I could never.” He said, intense security in his voice.
And then, they disappeared deeper into the woods, right in a clearing clearing that held a large, vivid blue pond that had several kinds of fish swimming in it, and there were lily pads twice the size of their heads. Cherry blossoms from the trees that were scattered throughout the clearing- along with massive weeping willows- were littered throughout the pond. They looked up in amazement at the birds that chirped as they flew past them- chirping happily. It was no wonder that this was where Renjun liked to go through his molting here...
The porcelain Renjun let out a loud gasp, spinning in a circle. His mouth was wide open with shock. He ran over to one of the Cherry Blossoms, marveling at its’ beautiful colors.
“Jeno would love it here..” He said loud enough for the others to hear, while he paced around a weeping willow tree.
Finally making his way to the pond, he carefully seated himself on the soft grass. He faced the other Renjun, smiling.
“Ah! Jeno is my best friend, he is awfully nice to me. I wonder if there is a Jeno here, too...he is probably not as cool as mine, though. That is without a doubt, my own self. My Jeno is made of glass, and wears a hat made of leather. Quite a charmer, I must say.”
He raised his eyebrows, smiling weakly from where he was seated against the trunk of a particularly large weeping willow.
He coughed weakly as he held his head in his heads, trying to bear the throbbing headache he had.
Slowly, all of the others started to walk into the clearing.
Mouse Jisung bounce-ran over to Renjun, and he wrapped his arm around him. “How are you holding up? Is it too bad just yet?”
Renjun shook his head at Jisung, closing his eyes from being too weak. “It’s not even at its half worst yet, Jisung... don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”
He stiffened further and groaned once more as a fresh wave of intense pain doused over him.
Yixing squatted down next to him, checking his pulse again, and sighed. He turned around to face the large group of people standing behind him. “Looks like this is going to be a rocky one...”
Minseok winced, as he’d witnessed several of Renjun’s moltings first hand.
“Alright.. I’ll take him then.”
They all looked at Yixing in confusion, until he picked Renjun up bridal style and teleported teleported to a large bolder in the lake, and he sat him down on it, an he teleported back next to porcelain Renjun.
He was about to start a conversation with the doll until Baekhyun came up behind him, tapping his shoulder.
“Hey, Uh... Yixing?” He said nervously, his tail between his legs and his ears laid against his head warily.
Yixing’s purple eyes flicked with interest “Yes?” He hummed out.
“How.. how long should this take?”
Yixing’s face fell at that.
“Honestly? There’s no way of telling. It could take as much time between a week and 1 hour.”
“A week is still a long time, you know. But I cannot believe I- Apologies, You, have to go through such pain for 9 days. If we-“ Porcelain Renjun was then cut off by Mark, who had just entered the clearing.
“An hour? That’s absurd. That means we’ll only have about 60 minutes to get outta here.” He sighed.
“I was speaking!!” Renjun yelled, the flowers on his body turning red for a moment. “As I was saying, if it is indeed a week that we will be staying here, if we work together on this instead of interrupting others and bickering,” He glared at Mark, “This plan should go solidly and smoothly without anyone getting injured!”
“That’s the idea, yes.” Jaehyun laughed, leaning against a tree.
Porcelain Renjun blushed a rose pink, puffing out his cheeks in frustration. On everyone’s heads appeared a flower crown made of his blue roses, the thorns retracted. He then scooted closer to Yixing, looking into the pond.
Baekhyun and Chanyeol moved to sit near Yixing, Minseok and porcelain Renjun next to the water, though Chanyeol was wary as he was scared of water.
“So.. why is he.. on a rock, in the lake..?” Baekhyun said, his eyes sticking on Renjun for a second as he turned to look at Yixing and getting concerned when he looked more serious than usual.
“So he doesn’t burn us all alive.” His eyes burned with painful memories as he thought back to the first time Renjun molted... and the friends that were lost.
A solemn aura shifted around the fairly large group, not reaching our poor Fairy boy who decided that it was stupid to act such a way.
“Hey. All of you shut your damn mouths about how much you miss two damn people. At least half of our Fairyland team here are parentless. I don’t know about anyone else, but Chenle and I had to watch our families get executed right in front of our eyes. So stop moping.” He snapped, growling in frustration. “Everyone in Fairyland has witnessed the death of someone close to them, and everyone gets over it eventually. It’s stupid how you’re lingering on the past when there’s an obvious problem in the fucking present and if we don’t focus on that now there’s not gonna be a damn future! So get your weak asses together and help us figure out a plan to get us home.”
Tiger Chenle snarled at Fairy Jisung and nearly lunged at him, but mouse Jisung gripped his arm tighter, holding him back.
Chanyeol suddenly went rigid, his eyes turning white, as he shook violently, and he nearly fell over but Minseok caught him, and walked him over to a tree to sit down against. He trembled weakly against the tree for a moment, until he gasped and his eyes slowly faded back to normal.
“D-Don’t fight him, Chenle... it’s not worth it.”
He said weakly before he passed out against the tree.
Minseok glanced up at Chenle with a worried look on his face.
He was about to get up and go talk to chenle, before they all heard violent coughing come from Renjun, and Yixing whipped around to look at him.
“Guys.. he has a point. It happened so long ago.. and I know it hurts. God, I know it hurts. It still hurts me...but only because I was the one to do it. I’m sorry that I killed Mark and Haechan, but please just move on.” Renjun rasped out, now sitting up (though quite hunched over) and looking up at them though his eyelashes. “There are in fact more important things to worry about. Such as getting them back home. So can we please-“ his voice broke off as his entire body went rigid and he fell limp onto the rock.
Yixing gasped, and teleported to him instantly- though he knew it was pointless.
Baekhyun blinked as a small group of what he assumed were Sostos wandered into the clearing, catching his attention and his eyes sparkled at how cute they were.
Mark silently walked over to the group, sitting down and petting them. They all cuddled into him, falling asleep. Jisung (the fairy one, not to cause confusion) stuck his tongue out at not-so-much his Chenle, teasing him. His Chenle only laughed along, not realizing how serious the situation was.
Haechan was awfully quiet. Fairies don’t think much, so that can’t be it. Although, maybe he was. Unfortunately, neither of us could tell you what he was thinking about. We have access to the story, not the character’s full thoughts. Mark glanced over at the quiet fairy, focusing real hard.
“He’s thinking about me again...” The Elf muttered, sighing and returning his attention to the small animals that were sleeping in his lap.
I lied. We have access to only a small portion of thoughts.
‘Don’t let it get to you, Mark.’ The elf thought carefully, ‘Why would you like him like that?’
Our Porcelain Boy looked at Baekhyun, tilting his head.
“Sir Baekhyun? What..what is all the fuss about this molting season?”
Baekhyun furrowed his brows at porcelain Renjun, and he reached his hand up to his face, delicately placing his chin Between his pointer finger and thumb in thought.
“Well, from what I’ve gathered from the nonsense everyone has been spewing, with Renjun being a Phoenix, he’s what you guys need to make it home. And right now, Renjun is molting.. and after the process, you guys will need one of his ember feathers. And after three days, they dissolve into ash, so that leaves you guys a little pressed for time.” Baekhyun said as he put his wait on his arms as he relaxed in the ground, spreading his legs open.
‘A little too comfortable for this kind of situation,’ Yixing thought sourly. Baekhyun has always been a bit laid back, never really caring about much more than the cafe and his own problems.
“That’s quite unreasonable and fairly unrealistic. If it brought us here, it would want us to stay, correct? The town is bustling with panic. I thought it looked quite nice, a kind painter strolled through and painted our houses with beautiful colors.”
“Renjun - Sweetie - No...” Jaehyun sighed, “that’s blood you’re talking about. They exploded. God, you’re clueless.”
“Huh? Why...why would they explode?”
“That’s what we’re trying to figure out.”
Baekhyun giggled at the two and shook his head.
Tiger Chenle stood up, clearing his throat as Yixing teleported back over to everyone, finally satisfied with his checkup on Renjun.
“I.. um, me and Jisung are going to go back now.” He said, his cheeks slightly red from embarrassment as Jisung twisted Chenle’s tail around his long finger.
Minseok rolled his eyes at the two, knowing them all too well. “Fine, fine.. just don’t get into any trouble.” He said, putting extra emphasis on the ‘trouble’.
Chenle blushed further as he walked away, whining at Jisung and grabbing his wrist, trying to pull him off but yelping quietly when he pulled away by sliding his hand down his tail- sending shivers up Chenle’s spine.
“JiJi!! Jisungie!!!!~~~” Deer Chenle hopped over to his Jisung, pinching his cheeks. The Fairy slapped him away, letting out an annoyed groan.
“Don’t touch me.”
“Bet!” He poked all over his Jisung’s face, the other growing more and more angry.
Jisung gripped his deer’s wrist, following the same path that their doppelgängers went yelling something about how he didn’t care about Kun’s rules because he was dead.
「㊆」「㊆」「㊆」「㊆」
Chenle was in sooooo much trouble. Both were, actually. One was being beaten up and the other was being “beaten up”. They were only about a mile apart respectively, and couldn’t hear each other at all.
Deer was all bloodied up, pinned against a tree in that endless forest. His nose was now broken, he had yet another finger cut off, his mouth was re-shut, and he had a neat star carved into his cheek right below his nothing eye. Surprisingly, he wasn’t bothered. In fact, he was laughing!
“Stop laughing, you psycho.”
Chenle only laughed louder, headbutting his fairy and pushing him to a tree across from him. Swiftly, he grabbed the knife Jisung had, holding it against his own neck.
“And what would you do if I killed myself?”
Jisung panicked. Ohhhh, he panicked. So much so he began to run away. Chenle happily skipped along holding the knife beside him.
Not long after they reached the cabin, both of them exhausted from running. Chenle’s whole body dripped and stained the ground with blood. Jisung took his knife back, putting it away and holding Peppermint’s chin, lifting his head so they were eye level.
“Only I’m allowed to kill you. It’s more fun watching someone crumble because of your own doing instead of letting them crumble on their own. Only I’m allowed to hurt you, got it?”
“G-got it...”
