despite my fierce admiration for angst and every single aspect that it entails — i’m one hundred percent positive that i will be crying during episode four if i see michonne break down, no matter if it’s in anger, grief, etc etc. i will be sobbing!!!!
she’s built so much protection around herself for the sake of finding her husband. even before she started her journey, she NEVER wanted to leave jude and rj behind; judith had to coerce her into even thinking of that possibility. that was never michonne’s choice. those babies are her top priority forever, even during her time away from them. so having to witness the inevitable outcome of her breaking that barrage that she tried to contain is going to HURT. i hate seeing michonne cry, idc. she’s been through so so so so so much, and rick has too, but this is a woman who also had to suffer the loss of her lover for years. almost a decade!!!!!! she needs a release too. she needs someone to bring her back home too (and that will of course be rick). she’s a mother and a warrior but she’s also so drained emotionally and physically, just as much as rick is.
they both deserve the happiest sunshine butterflies and fucking rainbows ending EVER. but michonne is so strong and i love her. i’m prepared for episode 4 because it’s written by beloved danai, but holy fuck. just punch me in the gut now because if anyone knows their character best, it’s danai. this one’s going to cause water works for me i can already tell. certified michonne lover 4L!!!!!!!! 🫶🏼🌟💪🧸

episode that you love?
im only on season four but i've got a couple of faves so far:
1x21 'three stories': it's practically law that i have to include this. absolute classic of an episode. i love the format, i love the backstory we get, and i especially love the med students!! they were fun and i hope they come back at some point. probably not but im still holding out hope. teacher!house was great to see too, and the deep-dive into his backstory is so delightfully painful and heart-wrenching,,, oughgh
2x07 'hunting': very fun episode!! "what, because you're a closet case?" absolutely killed me the first time i watched it. get their asses lmao. also we get to see steve mcqueen (my beloved <3) and cameron on meth - fun times!
2x15 'clueless' and 2x16 'safe': mainly for the hilson roommates subplot tbf, but the cases were interesting too! these eps also had a lot of funny moments, like wilson sawing through house's cane and the whole tick debacle lmao
3x02 'cane & able': where do i start with this one. first of all the awful cgi hallucinations were fucking hilarious, i was so fucking confused tho. like the whole time i was just going helllo???? aliens????? great stuff. the rest case itself was really fun too!! and this is the one where we get the infamous "i was worried that your wings would melt" speech. oughghgh top tier content right there.
3x04 'lines in the sand': controversial take right here. this is the infamous autism episode. the way they handled it was. well. it was 2006. so. the case itself was interesting too, but the main highlight for me is the autistic house moments <3 and look. i KNOW wilson says house doesn't actually have autism. but MASKING EXISTS, WILSON!! you can pry this headcanon out of my cold dead hands. i support autism rights but i also support autism wrongs or however the meme goes. more people should get to be autistic and jerks i think <3 (saying all this as a guy who most likely has autism btw. i havent got an official diagnosis but uhhhh yeah it's Likely.)
3x07 'son of coma guy': hilson road trip! plus coma guy ig. but mainly hilson road trip :) i love them.
4x02 'the right stuff': i love love love the whole gameshow-esque thing house starts. we get to see some great characters (amber! kutner! dobson my beloved!!!!), and it's just all round a bit of fun. love it.
4x05 'mirror mirror': another fun one!! the mirror syndrome guy gives us a lot of fun insights into the applicant's personalities, i thought that was a really fun way of showing it rather than have a million expositions about each of them lol. also the banter was fun this episode, especially between house, wilson and cuddy. also we find out that wilson is more dominant than house and that kutner's a masochist. great fuel for fic writers. fun!
4x12 'don't ever change': ohohhoo i love this one. the case was alright but the best bit abt it imo was the house, wilson and amber dynamic. i love this trio so fucking much you don't understand,,, i honestly think we should've got poly wilson/amber/house. just think abt it... house and amber friendly rivalry... teaming up to bully wilson... and also amber and wilson bullying house together... would it be a little dysfunctional? yes. but that's to be expected in this show lmao. idk why this turned into a pitch for these three i just love them very very much <3
4x13 'no more mr. nice guy': again for the wilson/amber/house dynamic. this one is very fun i love their custody dispute over wilson, and the dog analogy was very funny to me. and cuddy making house and amber do coma patient duty lmao. AND bisexual thirteen!! love her <3
i haven't actually gotten to the last couple episodes of s4 yet because uhhhh Bad Things Happen and i am delaying the inevitable. send help. but i am sure they are very good and will probably make this list once i get around to watching them!
honourable mentions include 2x13 'skin deep' (purely for the scene where house is in the mri machine and wilson pretends to be god lol), 3x22 'resignation' (for the wilson on amphetamines scene. "i'm not on antidepressants, i'm on speeeeeeeed!" gets me every fucking time) and 4x01 'alone' (house and wilson prank war!!!)
soooo yeah those are my favourites :) and i'm sure there'll be a lot more once i finish the rest of the show but like i said i am Procrastinating lmao
thanks for the ask my friend!

supernatural s12e7 rock never dies (w. robert berens)
still kind of boggling that they went with rick springfield for this recurring incarnation of lucifer. funny getting closer to current times - like hey 2016/7 wasn't all that long ago. trying to shift brain to tech and references and such.
SAM So I've been trying to dig up info on the British Men of Letters, keeping an eye out for cases, and you've been goofing off with a game that went out of style five years ago?
LOL see i thought words with friends was popular then, but i never played it. guess we're just ignoring the very obvious lucifer letters in dean's letter tray thingy
Tumblr media
DEAN You still living out an '80s buddy comedy with Crowley? CASTIEL Unfortunately.
that horrifying forced smile made me laugh so hard i choked
dear lord the cheesy 80s-esque sitcom music and the cliche montage of LA-ish things i am not optimistic about this -_- dean's ranting about LA but he had fun when they were there 10 years ago? he enjoyed being a PA, he banged the actress he liked on the way out. apparently grumpy old man now
also rolling my eyes per always about insisting dean has this really narrow taste in music with the added annoyance of him being an asshole about sam liking something else. they had the one episode (10x12) where dean admitted to liking taylor swift's shake it off after being de-aged and hearing it. i thought he had a little personal growth moment 😔
Tumblr media
i'm glad they had sam push back on dean being an ass and in a way where it's not a fight, sammy just figures out a way to force dean to bend the knee and listen to the vince music with the unimpeachable logic that it's research. and he's so pleased with himself
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DEAN Hey. You consider switching up your duds there? Bit stiff for this town. SAM He could be an agent or something. DEAN Yeah, maybe a third-tier agent. CASTIEL At least I don't look like a lumberjack.
okay that made me laugh. they're both so grumpy and cas really went in with a good snarky tone. and dean, doing the harsh but fair face
Tumblr media
admire crowley's ability to find a way to have a good time regardless of the circumstances
Tumblr media Tumblr media
s12e7 / a different world (1987-1993) kadeem hardison as dwayne wayne
my god another blast from the past, so many good actors on that show!
Tumblr media
i'm making a slightly more distressed version of sam's face right now
well hey dean's drinking the vegetable water, maybe he'll be enjoying the vince music by the end too. you can do it, dean
CASTIEL Well, the only way you'll clear that crowd without drawing fire is if he's otherwise engaged. DEAN Engaged in what, Cass? Killing you? SAM Cass, you'll last...three minutes tops. CASTIEL Then I'll buy you three minutes. CROWLEY Make it four. What? I help.
wonder what he's up to
Tumblr media
funny how the v-neck makes an otherwise not that far outside the realm of what dean might wear outfit very much outside the realm
LUCIFER!VINCE Because it's fun. Because I can. And because being Lucifer? So much Judeo-Christian baggage. But Vince? He's famous. Everybody loves him.
Tumblr media
look at our sam being apparently stronger than lucifer's telekenesis on the doors which doesn't make much sense but it's a striking vaguely jesus-y visual so let's go i guess
DEAN Why are you doing this? LUCIFER!VINCE Why? SAM You and God made up. You forgave him. What would he think? LUCIFER!VINCE I'm not especially interested in his opinion. Dear old Dad, he finally apologized for abandoning me. And what's the very next thing he does? [Voice breaks] He ditches me. [Laughs] And you, too, by the way. And rides off into the sunset with Auntie Amara. He needed my help, and he'd say anything to get it. His words, your words, they mean nothing. Don't you get it? This is all meaningless. Heaven, Hell, this world. If it ever meant anything, that moment is past. Nothing down here but a bunch of hopeless distraction addicts, so filled with emptiness, so desperate to fill up the void… they don't mind being served another stale rerun of a rerun of a rerun. You know what my plan is? I don't have one. I'm just gonna keep on smashing Daddy's already broken toys and make you watch.
i am so confused. lucifer's upset over god abandoning him, and he's hurt by... sam and dean? what. have i already forgotten how they left things with him? there was never any chumminess, was there? i don't think this is the lucifer that i know
sam looks pretty with this backdrop but i started laughing when these horns came in to be some i dunno, rousing of spirits, call to arms on the lucifer hunt! "and we will stop him! we will. it's what we do, man" *sam stares off mournfully in the distance* cue the sad cellos
in the wiki
When Castiel calls Dean, his name appears on Dean's phone spelled as "Cass," thus re-igniting the age-old argument: is it Cas or Cass?.
i mean, in the script it's cass. when metatron was typing, it was cass. the captions say cass. the only people who use cas are fandom?? if we're talking english, cas would be pronounced more like kaz. anyway. i don't see how this is an argument. my personal (probably unpopular) opinion is fandom preference of not using the more feminine spelling (shortened cassandra etc)
well now that i read the linked cas or cass, looks like my points stand
(on twitter) Robbie Thompson: why is Castiel’s nickname spelled Cass not Cas? again: for science Eric Kripke: I think “Cass” just looks cooler on the page. And “Cas” might sound like “Caz.” But that’s just my opinion. Now get back to work.
thank you, eric, for the pronunciation note. somewhat vindicated 🤪

My fall 2023 anime thoughts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another season in the books! Like last fall, this one was jam packed with tons of amazing stuff (fall 22 is still gonna be like the One I look back on like "WHAT THE HELL HOW WERE THEIR SO MANY TOP TIER SHOWS") and a lot of new favs! To keep my streak goin, here's my end of season thoughts dealie! You may notice a trend for all three, and to quote my bestie when I said all my favs are about gay girlies, "a reflection of the self."
I'm in Love with the Villainess - I adore the books so I was really looking forward to this and it did not disappoint. A super faithful adaptation with an AMAAAAZING cast, oh my god I cannot put into words how good the ENG dub cast does with this. Rae and Claire the most iconic. Altogether it feels like a celebration of queer joy, and for that alone it holds a special place in my heart.
The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess - This one I watched while reporting on how each ep went to my bestie, cuz the books are a major big fav for them and they waited til the whole season was done to watch, which made for an interesting watch as I would be enjoying an episode / hoping it was a good daptation as I haven't read the books yet. This one got me with that Lycoris stress, even if the actual series was more silly and fun and not very stressful like the back half of Lycoris. Just that "I am so invested in this to go good." Komari is baby and I love Vill so much. Also love when a gay girlie fantasy anime like this or MagiRevo has just awful awful men as villains for our girlies to kick the asses of it's very cathartic.
Stardust Telepath - THIS WAS SO CUTE AND PRECIOUS AND SWEET. CGDCT anime about a rocket making club. Umika is so precious this anxious mess I love her sm. All of the four mains are so sweet AND a ton of side characters were too. Some of the romantic scenes made me ugly cry. I love love love series about healing, and this I think is a great example of one where people are hurting and then heal together.

My Review of The Rising of the Shield Hero: 2nd Season
Tumblr media
Season One Review
Lord, if we can make it through this entire season without seeing Bitch, I will become a believer for about five minutes.
A few seconds later…
AH-HA! I’m going to remain agnostic. As you can see, Bitch is still there and has her head still in tact.
I think we all know why we came into Rising of the Shield Hero. You were either an Isekai lover and jumped into this series, a devoted follower of the light novel, or you came out of curiosity after everyone screamed in fury over a certain character. Regardless, we’re in this for the long haul. Okay, maybe it isn’t that stark. Many people, myself included liked the story of the shield hero. The first season was nearly top-tier perfection in modern-day isekai animes. We’re not just watching some twat transferred to another world and having him automatically be an OP hero! This guy started at less than zero.
Tumblr media
HISTORY: Naofumi Iwatani was once a regular college boy reading light novels when he was transported to another world. Naofumi and three other boys (Ren, Itsuki, and Motoyasu) from three different dimensions of Japan were sent to the Kingdom of Melromarc where they were seen as saviors. The role of the hero must save people from these ongoing cataclysm events known as “waves”. Once they save them from these waves, the people will revere these heroes. Except for Naofumi! While the other boys had different and more powerful roles, Naofumi’s power was the shield and because of that he was treated worse than dog shit. He was shunned and later tricked by the royal family leaving Naofumi alone and penniless. This story is about a young lad who must rise up, form a party, and survive in this unforgiving, new world. Along the way, he buys a slave, a demi-human named Raphtalia and hatches a filolial egg where he makes a pact with the hatchling named Filo. And every now and then, Naofumi gets help from one member of the royal family who is on his side, Princess Melty.
Tumblr media
SEASON TWO: For now, there is peace throughout the lands. But that does suddenly change as the heroes lost the ability to tell when the next wave is going to hit. And then there’s word of a tortoise god about to give trouble. Once again, it’s up to the queen of Melromarc to count on the four heroes. And once again it’ll probably be all up to Naofumi’s team because Ren, Itsuki, and Motoyasu are still arrogant cucks. Meanwhile, Naofumi made it official with the addition of a new member to his team. Rishia was once on Itsuki’s team, but was ditched for being too weak. That still doesn’t stop her from mentioning his stupid name several times an episode. We get it, you have a crush on him and he spurned you. Could we all move on now?
Tumblr media
Oh and Rishia wears a filolial and penguin costume because, fuck if I know. It’s not brought up; we just see this in episode 1 and accept it. And we see two people hanging around and training Naofumi’s crew like we’re supposed to know them. There’s only one explanation for that!
Rush job!
Guys, we waited three years for a continuation. The least you could do was…NOT give us a rush job!
NEW CHARACTERS INTRODUCED: Hmm, let’s see if there’s anyone worth mentioning here. We meet several characters that seem to be in good with Naofumi this season. It’s just that their introduction was sloppily given to us. Oh well, let’s see what I can do with this category without sounding snotty.
Tumblr media
Let’s start with Rishia since I really didn’t talk about her in the previous review. She was introduced in the final couple of episodes as an abandoned member of Itsuki’s team. Rishia was not at the castle at the very beginning where everyone was choosing which hero they were going to serve. Instead, Rishia joined Itsuki later down the line when he saved her. Because of that one heroic act, Rishia was forever smitten over this ass. Even after he ditched Rishia, she continues to praise him. Rishia ends up being a somewhat helpful member to Naofumi’s team.
Tumblr media
Next, I’ll talk about Éclair. We’re introduced to her and this old granny that we’re suddenly supposed to know without any true introduction in the anime. Éclair kinda resembles an OC of mine from a Pokemon fic I wrote back in the day. So, she’s kind of a bombshell. Éclair serves the queen and will occasionally be there to help Naofumi this season.
Tumblr media
Ost is the human incarnation to the spirit tortoise that seems to be causing havoc. But other forces are behind that. Again, this season was pretty piss-poor when it came to explaining things.
Tumblr media
And finally, there’s Kizuna! She wasn’t introduced until the last couple of episodes of this season. Much like Naofumi, she came from some alternate version of Japan and was dubbed a hero in this world. And she’s friends with Glass, L’Arc, and Therese. But again, like Naofumi, she found herself in a lot of trouble and was imprisoned until Naofumi saved her.
With all that said, here’s what you might recognize these folks from.
JAPANESE CAST: *Rishia is played by Natsuko Hara
*Éclair is played by Ruriko Aoki (known for Onemine on Komi-san)
*Ost is played by Kana Hanazawa (known for Chloe on Pokemon Journeys, Kanade on Angel Beats, Mayuri on Steins;Gate, Nadeko on Monogatari, Anri on Durarara, Shiemi on Blue Exorcist, and Rize on Tokyo Ghoul)
*Kizuna is played by Miyu Tomita (known for Riko on Made in Abyss, Crim on Interspecies Reviewers, Miko on Kaguya-sama, and Ebisu on Dorohedoro)
ENGLISH CAST: *Rishia is played by Kira Buckland (known for Jolyne on Jojo’s Pt. 6, Beatrice on Re:Zero, Setsuna on Yashahime, Mary on Kakegurui, Izumo on Blue Exorcist, Luculia on Violet Evergarden, and Mitsuri on Demon Slayer)
*Éclair is played by Dawn M. Bennett (known for Yamada on Zombieland Saga, Kale on DB Super, Sister Lily on Black Clover, Frieda on Attack on Titan, Frederica on Re:Zero, and Neiru on Wonder Egg Priority)
*Ost is played by Amber Lee Connors (known for Komi on Komi-san, Pieck on Attack on Titan, Fortuna on Re:Zero, Brandish on Fairy Tail, Kotegawa on To Love Ru, Emi on My Hero Academia, and Mei on Citrus)
*Kizuna is played by Lizzie Freeman (known for Chizuru on Rent-A-Girlfriend, Trish on Jojo’s Pt. 5, Hinata on Tokyo Revengers, Chisato on Lycoris Recoil, Sumire on Love Live Superstar, and Mujika on The Promised Neverland)
LICENSING: Crunchyroll and FUNimation have control over this series. Crunchyroll has been a big driving force with this series. After all, they’re the company that assured us sometime after season one aired (in 2019) that not only were we getting a season two, but a season three. And better yet, they were going to continue giving us dubs as the simulcast began several weeks after the season two premier. Unfortunately, it came upon some grim news about one of the stars. More below!
A BIG CAST CHANGE: I’ll say more on the matter at the end of this review, but as everyone should know by now Billy Kametz is not voicing Naofumi anymore. This is something we have to accept and respect.
Naofumi is now played by Stephen Fu (known for Weather Report on Jojo’s Pt. 6, Douma on Demon Slayer, Henry on Black Clover, Mr. Sawaki on Wonder Egg Priority, and Pax on Mushoku Tensei)
ANY CHANGES IN DISLIKE…
Nope. I still hate Bitch. Kyo can be an ass-hat all he wants this season, but if I see even one second of Slutty Bitch over here, she’s going to be on my hate-radar.
Tumblr media
ANYTHING TO ADD WITH SHIPPING: Naofumi always seems to be surrounded by the ladies. But as we all know, Naofumi never once spoke of romance about anyone at any time. He’s got other shit to deal with. No matter how many cute outfits Raphtalia wears or how many hints she drops, we’re not seeing anything this season.
Tumblr media
While I’m here, Rishia, girl, please stop with the love for Itsuki. Bro has absolutely no interest in you. He dropped you like a sack of hammers. You can do so much better. You can respect the fact that he saved your life, but other than that just let it go.
Tumblr media
ENDING: At the halfway part, Naofumi and his crew were about to take out this asshole named Kyo who was manipulating the spirit tortoise and they were all transported to another world. This world is the place where Glass, L’Arc, and Terese came from as heroes. There, everything is reset for Naofumi. All his stats are back to one, Raphtalia is tiny again, and no one knows where Filo is. Add to this, there’s a wave attack going to occur in one week’s time. At least they know when they’re going to hit here in this new land. But there seems to be a bit of betrayal against the heroes in this land as well. They meet Kizuna, a hero like L’Arc, Terese, and Glass but was being held against her will. After saving her, that ass-hat Kyo is back at it by making shady deals with other ass-hats in this world.
Tumblr media
Naofumi was able to rescue Filo, but also lost Raphtalia when she took the brunt of an attack. Raphtalia wound up imprisoned (again) and lost the slave crest that Naofumi bound to her at the very beginning of the series. On the plus side, she was able to seek help from L’Arc and the others and was blessed with a new weapon. She eventually returned to Naofumi and I suppose is seen as a comrade more than a slave. Now to stop Kyo and stop the upcoming waves! As it turns out, Kyo has been trying to find a way to stop waves himself. At least that’s what his childhood friend turned cult follower says.
Tumblr media
Now is Kyo a good guy with bad intentions or just a dick? If he’s creating his own waves and unleashing them on the people, I say the latter. Kyo is like Rudeus from Mushoku Tensei if Rudeus was an evil prick. Kyo committed suicide in his previous life (where he was a fat shut-in) and was reincarnated in another world where he can do as he pleased. So he created waves that caused a lot of havoc and killed people to turn them into loyal chimeras. Bro needs a good ass-kicking right about now. Naofumi and crew were able to take out this prick in less than one episode. Let me guess, another rush job?! Okay, let’s see what’s up with the final episode of the season. After killing Kyo, Naofumi’s mission was complete so he and the girls head back to Melromarc. Best of all, they’re no longer in feuds with Glass, L’Arc, or the others. But waves are still a thing and they still have to figure out how to get rid of them. But not for the last episode!
Tumblr media
The last episode was as fillery as you could possibly get. You had fanservice, you had a Tom Hanks in Cast Away montage, and sex talk. But they end the episode with Naofumi and the crew honoring their comrade that passed away (Ost). And the anime says it’ll be back, we just don’t know when. Crunchyroll announced there’d be a season 3 two years ago. They didn’t think we’d remember. Pepperidge Farm remembers. At least they gave us a promo poster at Crunchyroll Expo and assured us all that season three is happening.
For someone who didn’t read the light novel, this season didn’t impress me. When I go into an episode asking more questions than getting answers, you know I’m in trouble here. I’m seeing characters socializing with the main characters you don’t remember ever seeing and we get no information about other crucial things (including Rishia). And tell me if I’m wrong but don’t you think Raphtalia’s growth and getting the new sword should have been longer than half an episode? Maybe it’s just me. I think they were trying to smush this entire tortoise arc into a 12-episode season and it just didn’t sit well with many of us fans.
Sorry guys, wasn’t feeling this season. Didn’t really have a fascination with it as much as I did with the first season. That sucks because I gave the first season a glowing review and put it on my top 20 list of best animes of the 2010s. That’s great considering this anime also had one of the worst characters ever created. I guess that’s a blessing with this season as we only had to see Bitch once. Probably best if we all read the light novel’s telling of the tortoise arc. I’m going to hope for a better third season and possibly read up on what happens that the anime neglected to touch upon.
If you do want to venture on to the second season, Crunchyroll has it available for watching in multiple languages.
IN MEMORIUM: When it was announced in April that Billy Kametz was relinquishing all of his roles due to a grim cancer diagnosis, I held out hope that he could beat this thing. Yes, stage four colon cancer is nothing to fuck with, but still! Sadly, this cancer was very aggressive and it wound up taking him faster than anyone could have anticipated. It’s always tragic to lose someone to cancer, but to lose someone so young hits you pretty hard. This guy had so much ahead of him and I betcha he would have gone down as one of the best English voice actors like Johnny Yong Bosch or Crispin Freeman. Hell with that, he was that great! Billy Kametz was one of those people who was loved throughout the entire community. Fellow voice actors always loved working alongside him and fans cherished him with the roles he brought to life. I’ve heard him in several roles including Ren from Pokemon Journeys, Jousuke from the fourth part of Jojo’s, and Metal from Boruto. But the two roles I really loved him in were Aggretsuko and Shield Hero.
In the days following Billy Kametz’s death, I looked at so many responses from his fellow voice actors and was surprised by how much love there was. I’m really upset I never got a chance to meet him at a convention. I think I had an opportunity to see him at Sakura Con in Seattle, but it was cancelled due to Covid. But that didn’t stop me from listening to his performances and they were stellar. In fact, I don’t think I ever hated anything he played. I am going to miss his neurotic Metal Lee. I’m going to miss Ren’s geekiness on Pokemon. I’m going to miss Anai’s rap skills on Aggretsuko. I’m going to miss the style and flare Kametz brought to Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and Promare. But most of all, I will miss his Naofumi Iwatani. Thanks for bringing all of these roles to life.

MUN Q&A!
tagged: @shadowcovcn tagging: I think this is one of those ones I’ve seen a lot of my dash do already but feel free to steal it and tag me I’d be curious to see & learn !
𝐅𝐀𝐕 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐑(𝐒):  I like teals and greens best, in jewel tones
𝐅𝐀𝐕 𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑(𝐒): I definitely have a sweet tooth and people always associate that with like, storebought junk food/candy or whatever but that’s not what I mean (I don’t even??? really like candy or like, cake all that much tbh) I mean like....... teriyaki sauce and orange sauce and when bbq sauce is sweet/tangy (Sweet Baby Rays or get out of my face tbh) are better to me than foods that are like, spicy or salty or anything else. Honey mustard is the superior dipping sauce, ketchup can go choke. On a different note, hazelnut is a god tier flavor, and so is butter pecan, and coffee but like. Bold, dark roast. And chicken is always > beef, except for top ramen, where the beef flavor reigns supreme. All ice cream is good ice cream (but the best ones are coffee, hazelnut, butter pecan, cookie dough, and genuinely just. homemade vanilla. straight up, I am not joking.) Fruit in general but in particular the ones that are kind of tart like cranberry and raspberry and green apple and you know what this is such a broad question how do normal people answer this am I supposed to have a favorite from one genre of food that kings the others???????
𝐅𝐀𝐕 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐄(𝐒): Character driven is the main thing, I think? Like literally I will dabble in any genre (both like, ‘consuming’ and creating it) if I can find characters, people, there who are good or genuine or good and genuine. But I do also admittedly like... like incredibly predictable feel-good variety stuff is my safe space and I’m very happy in it thank you for asking. netf.lix never knows what to recommend to me because I will sit here and watch like, The Silence of the Lambs back to back with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and rate them both with the double thumbs up “I love this!!”. cloudy with a chance of meatballs is fucking hilarious btw
𝐅𝐀𝐕 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂:  I tend to lean towards indie and alternative stuff, but also some mainstream rock and poppunk. At this point MC.R is like, hardwired into me or something, and Bastille has been my top artist running on like three or four years now. I also really love soundtrack(-style) music.
𝐅𝐀𝐕 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐄(𝐒):  Every time I make a list it’s different and I don’t want to dig through my brain drawers right now would u like (this post) where I answered this one time (while also knowing that for every time I have ever answered this I have left things out I really like movies)
𝐅𝐀𝐕 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒:  oh uhhhhh wow i haven’t given this a think in a hot minute lets go with: Sense8, Jul.ie and the Ph.antoms, The OA, The Hau.ntin.g of Hill H.ou.se (most of Mi.ke F’s work but specifically THOHH really...10/10), The Get Down, Dark Crystal Age of Resistance uhhhhhhh. I dunno. Lots of stuff. Gosh so many of these are n.etfli.x produced, but in my defense I’ve never been....exceedingly into television??????? Episodic content just doesn’t brr the brain as much I guess I dunno. I used to read more than I watched stuff
𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐆: Itch, Nothing But Thieves
𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒:  ...uhhhh I think? the last thing I finished was Gam.e of Th,ron/es?
𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐄:  I went to sleep with something on the other day and I genuinely do not remember what it was
𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐋𝐘 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆:  I am not, but I have “A Venom Dark and Sweet” by Judy I. Lin on standby as something I intend to start. Soon. Sometime.

SEASONS. (a youthful otome game with the genshin boys)
love blossoms in all seasons.
Tumblr media
“an…otome game?”
a snort escapes your lips in disbelief, as you send a perplexed glare over to your chagrined friend. “oh, what are you looking at me for…you wanted a recommendation!”
“yeah. not this cheesy shit.” you cringed at the mere thought of it, begrudgingly inserting the video game’s dvd in the television’s slot. “i was expecting…i don’t know, something more interesting?”
the humdrum remark earns a playful slap on your shoulder from her, as you wince at the impact of her offended smack. “gods, just trust me already! it’s going to be life-changing.” she dreamily muses with a fanciful smile, however you’re not even the least bit convinced by her starry-eyed demeanor.
your eyes carefully scrutinize the displayed monitor, watching the game agonizingly load inside the box. dread crept up and sent chills down your spine as the screen slowly lit up, and your wandering eyes catch the sight of messily stuffed packages poorly concealed behind ajar closet doors. “actually you know what, i do have some unfinished monster hunter quests in the — ow! excuse me? what the hell was that for?!”
“come on y/n! you promised you’d play this time.” she childishly huffs in dismay, crossing her arms as she leans back on the edge of the bed in evident betrayal. “it won’t be that bad, i swear. let’s just finish one chapter today, and then i’ll let you decide after if we play a bit more…or you burn the damn game into smithereens.”
the latter option made quite the tempting offer, though you personally would have favored a third alternative where you could just burn the dvd now. “whatever.” you quietly grumble while snatching the plugged controller from the space on the wooden boards beside you. “fine, lets do it. but i’ll hold you to your word of that second choice.”

THE “OH MY GOD I CAN’T BELIEVE SHE ACTUALLY WENT THERE” COLLECTION
These are the recipes that I had to invent something weird, come up with a bizarre solution, or go to unusual lengths to make a Steven Universe dish. Photo evidence of kitchen weirdness after the jump. List of recipes:
Three-Way Sub from “Say Uncle”
Clams, Peanut Butter, and a Side of Fresh-Cut Grass from “Bluebird”
Crystal Lizards from “Lion 2: The Movie”
Donut Box from “Sadie Killer”
Everything Pizza from “What’s Your Problem”
Pizza Bagel & Fantastic Fries from “Restaurant Wars”
Gem Harvest from “Gem Harvest,” including 3-tier Wedding Cake
Off Colors Graduation Cake from “Little Graduation”
Alien Thorax from “Jungle Moon”
Jungle Moon Fruit from “Jungle Moon”
Korean Lunch from “Steven’s Dream”
Pizza Burrito from “Bismuth”
Cool Kids Potluck from “The Good Lars”
Giant Strawberry from the strawberry battlefields seen in “Serious Steven”
Together Forever cake from “Together Forever”
Zoo Fruit from “The Zoo”
Three-Way Sub from “Say Uncle”: I baked an actual three-prong bread that didn’t even properly fit in my oven. It is all one piece and homemade from yeast rise to egg wash.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clams, Peanut Butter, and a Side of Fresh-Cut Grass from “Bluebird”: I don’t eat clams (or any seafood) so I made clam-shaped CANDY. The shells are banded white chocolate painted on the inside with white chocolate, made from a mold, and the insides are homemade vanilla cremes. I also bought edible easter grass. (It exists.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crystal Lizards from “Lion 2: The Movie”: These are homemade from scratch white chocolate lizards dusted with sprinkles and green rock candy for the crystals!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Donut Box for the Cool Kids from “Sadie Killer”: Yes, I made multiple different donut recipes (plus jelly donuts) and even a Dog-Nut to put this box together. Donuts are from scratch, all of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything Pizza from “What’s Your Problem”: Since (again) I don’t eat fish, I made a fish out of BREAD in a special fish-shaped pan and also made fake sardines and fake shrimp from tofu cut into shapes, in addition to all those other ridiculous toppings. The pizza is also made from scratch--the dough is homemade.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Restaurant Wars food from “Restaurant Wars”: Yes, I got ketchup inside the fries. Yes, it was super messy. No, I don’t recommend it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The entire Gem Harvest from “Gem Harvest”: My friends helped me make the whole feast, and it’s a homemade chicken, corn on the cob, homemade mashed potatoes, homemade bean casserole, homemade yeast rolls from scratch, and I made an entire three-tier wedding cake from scratch including frosting and white chocolate spouses, because of course I did. The cake was chocolate on the bottom tier, lemon in the middle, vanilla on the top.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Four-tier Graduation Cake from “Little Graduation”: Yep, four chocolate cakes with three layers and three kinds of homemade frosting, plus fondant models I made of the Off Colors and cake accents made of fondant or specialty paper.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alien Thorax from “Jungle Moon”: Made of a Tofurky Roast and legs made of plantains, with a pretty disgusting purple gravy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jungle Moon Fruit from “Jungle Moon”: This giant pear thing is a complicated cake flavored with ube flavoring and sugar plum extract. I made it in a sports ball cake pan and created my own vegetarian mirror glaze for the frosting. The stem is a stick of licorice candy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Korean Lunch from “Steven’s Dream”: This consisted of Korean sushi (gimbap), noodle soup (naengmyeon), dumplings (mandu), and pickled radish (danmuji). I made the gimbap from scratch and bought all the ingredients from a local Asian market, but I must admit the naengmyeon was from a noodle pack (which I added my own ingredients to, like the egg, the fake bacon for beef, and the korean pear), and the dumplings were frozen and steamed to softness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pizza Burrito from “Bismuth”: Pizza was made from scratch, and burrito was added with potato chips sprinkled on top. Rolled into large burrito and later eaten in slices because I cannot eat it baby bird style like Amethyst.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cool Kids Potluck from “The Good Lars”: I made the Snack Sushi (avocado and cheese puff sushi), which itself was an endeavor, and then on top of that I customized my soda, made Fish Stew Pizza boxes for pizza (I used frozen pizza this time), and managed to gather the exotic fruit--no small task considering one of them was the famously smelly durian. (The others are a pineapple and a dragonfruit.) The episode does not include them actually preparing and eating the fruit but I did that too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Giant Strawberry from “Serious Steven” and others: I made a strawberry cake from real strawberries and made it look like a giant strawberry from the fields. The frosting and the chocolate seeds were all homemade too, with mint leaves grown in my kitchen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Together Forever cake from “Together Forever”: Made with real strawberry batter swirled into vanilla batter, and homemade frosting in three colors. I’m not very good at piping so this was a big deal for me to make a replica of Steven’s ill-fated proposal cake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zoo Fruit from “The Zoo”: This is a vegetarian recipe that isn’t jello. Made with agar-agar, water, and juice, they turn firm after several hours of refrigeration.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Some not-pictured honorable mentions that were weird and required creativity but weren’t particularly difficult or impressive include Guacola from “Drop Beat Dad,” birthday cakes and a pie for the Gems from “So Many Birthdays,” the pizzas Bixbite prepared in “Guidance,” homemade cereal I created for cereal dust in “Greg the Babysitter” and fruit loops in “In Dreams,” homemade Chaaaaps from “Monster Buddies,” a cloud made of meringues because Amethyst ate some cloud in “Steven the Sword Fighter,” good old Cookie Cats from “Gem Glow,” corndogs from “Too Short to Ride,” marshmallows from several episodes, durian juice, Fish Stew Pizza, the breadsticks and shrimp appetizer from “Fusion Cuisine,” Lion Lickers, mooncakes mentioned in “Little Graduation,” homemade onion rings from “Garnet’s Universe,” homemade oyster crackers for Sadie, Amethyst’s pile of food from “Reformed,” protein bars and pine tea from “Gem Hunt,” pumpkin bread shaped like a pumpkin and the ube roll from “The Good Lars,” and Amethyst’s gross tuna burrito from “So Many Birthdays.”)
This kind of crap is why no one can think of something I haven’t made

CW for discussion of suicide
- She's the crazy ex-girlfriend - What? No, I'm not. - She's the crazy ex-girlfriend - That's a sexist term! - She's the crazy ex-girlfriend - Can you guys stop singing for just a second? - She's so broken insiiiiiide! - The situation's a lot more nuanced than that!
There’s the essay! You get it now. JK.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is the culmination of Rachel Bloom’s YouTube channel (and the song “Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury” in particular where she combined her lifelong obsession with musical theatre and sketch comedy and Aline Brosh McKenna stumbling onto Bloom’s channel one night while having an idea for a television show that subverted the tropes in scripts she’d been writing like The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses.
The show begins with a flashback to teenage Rebecca Bunch (played by Bloom) at summer camp performing in South Pacific. She leaves summer camp gushing about the performance, holding hands with the guy she spent all summer with, Josh Chan. He says it was fun for the time, but it’s time to get back to real life. We flash forward to the present in New York, Rebecca’s world muted in greys and blues with clothing as conservative as her hair.
She’s become a top tier lawyer, a career that she doesn’t enjoy but was pushed into by her overprotective, controlling mother. She’s just found out she’s being promoted to junior partner, and that’s just objectively, on paper fantastic, right?! ...So why isn’t she happy? She goes out onto the streets in the midst of a panic attack, spilling her pills all over the ground, and suddenly sees an ad for butter asking, “When was the last time you were truly happy?” A literal arrow and beam of sunlight then point to none other than Josh Chan. She strikes up a conversation with him where he tells her he’s been trying to make it in New York but doesn’t like it, so he’s moving back to his hometown, West Covina, California, where everyone is just...happy.
The word echoes in her mind, and she absorbs it like a pill. She decides to break free of the hold others have had over her life and turns down the promotion of her mother’s dreams. I didn’t realize the show was a musical when I started it, and it’s at this point that Rebecca is breaking out into its first song, “West Covina”. It’s a parody of the extravagant, classic Broadway numbers filled with a children’s marching band whose funding gets cut, locals joining Rebecca in synchronized song and dance, and finishing with her being lifted into the sky while sitting on a giant pretzel. This was the moment I realized there was something special here.
With this introduction, the stage has been set for the premise of the show. Each season was planned with an overall theme. Season one is all about denial, season two is about being obsessed with love and losing yourself in it, season three is about the spiral and hitting rock bottom, and season four is about renewal and starting from scratch. You can see this from how the theme songs change every year, each being the musical thesis for that season.
We start the show with a bunch of cliché characters: the crazy ex-girlfriend; her quirky sidekick; the hot love interest; his bitchy girlfriend; and his sarcastic best friend who’s clearly a much better match for the heroine. The magic of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is that no one in West Covina is the sum of their tropes. As Rachel says herself, “People aren’t badly written, people are made of specificities.”
The show is revolutionary for the authenticity with which it explores various topics but for the sake of this piece, we’ll discuss mental health, gender, Jewish identity, and sexuality. All topics that Bloom has dug into in her previous works but none better than here.
Simply from the title, many may be put off, but this is a story that has always been about deconstructing stereotypes. Rather than being called The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, where the story would be from an outsider’s perspective, this story is from that woman’s point of view because the point isn’t to demonize Rebecca, it’s to understand her. Even if you hate her for all the awful things she’s doing.
The musical numbers are shown to be in Rebecca’s imagination, and she tells us they’re how she processes the world, but as she starts healing in the final season, she isn’t the lead singer so often anymore and other characters get to have their own problems and starring roles. When she does have a song, it’s because she’s backsliding into her former patterns.
While a lot of media will have characters that seem to have some sort of vague disorder, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend goes a step further and actually diagnoses Rebecca with Borderline Personality Disorder, while giving her an earnest, soaring anthem. She’s excited and relieved to finally have words for what’s plagued her whole life.
When diagnosing Rebecca, the show’s team consulted with doctors and psychiatrists to give her a proper diagnosis that ended up resonating with many who share it. BPD is a demonized and misunderstood disorder, and I’ve heard that for many, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is the first honest and kind depiction they’ve seen of it in media. Where the taboo of mental illness often leads people to not get any help, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend says there is freedom and healing in identifying and sharing these parts of yourself with others.
Media often uses suicide for comedy or romanticizes it, but Crazy Ex-Girlfriend explored what’s going through someone’s mind to reach that bottomless pit. Its climactic episode is written by Jack Dolgen (Bloom’s long-time musical collaborator, co-songwriter and writer for the show) who’s dealt with suicidal ideation. Many misunderstood suicide as the person simply wanting to die for no reason, but Rebecca tells her best friend, “I didn’t even want to die. I just wanted the pain to stop. It’s like I was out of stories to tell myself that things would be okay.”
Bloom has never shied away from heavy topics. The show discusses in song the horrors of what women do to their bodies and self-esteem to conform to beauty standards, the contradiction of girl power songs that tell you to “Put Yourself First” but make sure you look good for men while doing it, and the importance of women bonding over how terrible straight men are are near and dear to her heart. This is a show that centers marginalized women, pokes fun at the misogyny they go through, and ultimately tells us the love story we thought was going to happen wasn’t between a woman and some guy but between her and her best friend.
I probably haven’t watched enough Jewish TV or film, but to me, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is the most unapologetic and relatable Jewish portrayal I’ve seen overall. From Rebecca’s relationship with her toxic, controlling mother (if anyone ever wants to know what my mother’s like, I send them “Where’s the Bathroom”) to Patti Lupone’s Rabbi Shari answering a Rebecca that doesn’t believe in God, “Always questioning! That is the true spirit of the Jewish people,” the Jewish voices behind the show are clear.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend continues to challenge our perceptions when a middle-aged man with an ex-wife and daughter realizes he’s bisexual and comes out in a Huey Lewis saxophone reverie. The hyper-feminine mean girl breaks up with her boyfriend and realizes the reason she was so obsessed with getting him to commit to her is the same reason she’s so scared to have female friends. She was suffering under the weight of compulsory heterosexuality, but thanks to Rebecca, she eventually finds love and friendship with women.
This thread is woven throughout the show. Many of the characters tell Rebecca when she’s at her lowest of how their lives would’ve never changed for the better if it wasn’t for her. She was a tornado that blew through West Covina, but instead of leaving destruction in her wake, she blew apart their façades, forcing true introspection into what made them happy too.
Rebecca’s story is that of a woman who felt hopeless, who felt no love or happiness in her life, when that’s all she’s ever wanted. She tried desperately to fill that void through validation from her parents and random men, things romantic comedies had taught her matter most but came up empty. She tried on a multitude of identities through the musical numbers in her mind, seeing herself as the hero and villain of the story, and eventually realized she’s neither because life doesn’t make narrative sense.
It takes her a long time but eventually she sees that all the things she thought would solve her problems can’t actually bring her happiness. What does is the real family she finds in West Covina, the town she moved to on a whim, and finally having agency over herself to use her own voice and tell her story through music.
The first words spoken by Rebecca are, “When I sang my solo, I felt, like, a really palpable connection with the audience.” Her last words are, “This is a song I wrote.” This connection with the audience that brought her such joy is something she finally gets when she gets to perform her story not to us, the TV audience, but to her loved ones in West Covina. Rebecca (and Rachel) always felt like an outcast, West Covina (and creating the show) showed her how cathartic it is to find others who understand you.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is the prologue to Rebecca’s life and the radical story of someone getting better. She didn’t need to change her entire being to find acceptance and happiness, she needed to embrace herself and accept love and help from others who truly cared for her. Community is what she always needed and community is what ultimately saved her.
*
P.S. If you have Spotify... I also process life through music, so I made some playlists related to the show because what better way to express my deep affection for it than through song?
CXG parodies, references, and is inspired by a lot of music from all kinds of genres, musicals, and musicians. Same goes for the videos themselves. I gathered all of them into one giant playlist along with the show’s songs.
A Rebecca Bunch mix that goes through her character arc from season 1 to 4.
I’m shamelessly a fan of Greg x Rebecca, so this is a mega mix of themselves and their relationship throughout the show.
*
I’m in a TV group where we wrote essays on our favorite shows of the 2010s, so here is mine on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, I realized I forgot to ever post it. Also wrote one for Schitt’s Creek.

OWL: Overwatch League Teams Tier List
Since the 2021 Overwatch League Season is starting in a couple of days(April 16th), I want to talk about my opinions on the teams. Even though OWL doesn’t get as much attention as it did when it first started, I still really enjoy watching it and want to talk about it. I’ll get back to theories soon, but I want to write about this so, I’m going to go over each team from the top to bottom of my tier list.
S Tier - Most Likely to make Playoffs
San Francisco Shock: They are obviously at the top for winning the Overwatch League two times in a row. I think they might become even more aggressive with FDGod replacing Moth as main support and with Nero kind of taking over Rascal’s place for flex DPS. I’m interested in seeing how Glister does since he is replacing the god on Widowmaker that Ans was or if Striker is going to be playing more Widowmaker.
Shanghai Dragons: They did really good, being top four, but they didn’t look great during the playoffs. I have no doubt they will do good since they have Fleta, the 2020 MVP, but I still think SF Shock is better.
A Tier - Might make Playoffs
Washington Justice: I’m from D.C. so I am biased, but they looked really good just before the playoffs. They also have Decay who is an amazing player overall, and they picked up Assassin, Fury, and Mag over the offseason which I think is definitely a good thing.
Seoul Dynasty: So, they made playoffs and top two, so I think that they definitely have a chance to get to playoffs again, but they weren't as consistent as Shanghai which is why they are lower.
Philadelphia Fusion: Like I said, I'm biased toward the Justice, but the Fusion did make it to playoffs and I think had the most stable run through the 2020 season, but they looked awful in the playoffs even with Carpe playing.
Los Angeles Gladiators: They have looked good last season and have picked up Moth and Shu, so they got some upgrades. They also picked up MuZe and skewed who have decent records in Overwatch Contenders.
Dallas Fuel: They picked up most of the Paris Eternal roster from last season, so MAJOR UPGRADES. They also got Fearless from Shanghai which is also good.
B Tier - Middle of the Pack
Florida Mayhem: They did decent last year, with Yaki and BQB looking really good, but they never did anything amazing. They didn't win any major tournaments and acted slightly as gatekeepers between the best and decent teams. Also, they traded Fate and got Oge which seems more like a sidegrade, not an upgrade. They did get Slime though, so I'm not sure.
New York Excelsior: They did alright last year, but never looked as good as they used to. With that said, they got a bunch of contenders talent who look really good and they still have JJoNak and BiaNcA who looked good last season.
Boston Uprising: They looked like trash last year, but they got some major upgrades. They were able to get Valentine who is a really good DPS player, so I think that there is a good amount of potential.
Atlanta Reign: Like Florida, they are gatekeepers, but they got Kai, formerly known as KSP, and Pelican which makes their DPS lineup look a lot scarier.
C Tier - Has Potential
Toronto Defiant: Toronto didn't look that good last year and I haven't seen them play in any offseason tournaments, so I'm not sure how much they have improved. Though, they got players from Philadelphia Fusion and LA Valiant, so they might be better.
Guangzhou Charge: They did alright last season, but not super consistently. They also didn't look great in the skirmish they did against the NYXL and they traded Happy and Nero, two of their best players in my opinion, but you never know.
Houston Outlaws: They have some really good talent, with Happy, KSF, and JAKE, but I'm not sure how good they will do. They could go higher up on this list though.
Chengdu Hunters: I would put them in the middle of the pack tier if they weren't as inconsistent as they were last season. They won matches when the meta was good for them, but it wasn't that often a good meta for them came up.
Hangzhou Spark: They weren't great last year. They didn't win much, but I think they have potential since they have players like Architect or GodsB who looked alright.
D Tier - Ehhhh
Vancouver Titans: They were like the worst team last season and they traded sHockWave to the Philadelphia Fusion who was like their best player, but they got LiNkzr who is amazing, so they might be ok.
Paris Eternal: So, they got rid of three of their FRENCH players, SoOn, NiCOgdh, and BenBest which I think isn't great for their reputation, and in the matches, we have seen the new team in, they didn't look great.
London Spitfire: They looked pretty bad last year in APAC and lost what we have seen them play in so far.
F - Abandoned their old team
Los Angeles Valiant: Like the title suggests, they dropped their whole team and move to China. So, they dropped McGravy, Agilities, KSF, KSP/Kai, Adam, RaiN, Lastro, Dreamer, and Shax. Most of them were picked up by other teams like Kai going to Atlanta and Lastro and Agilities going to Toronto, but some of them decided to quit like McGravy and RaiN. Also, the new team was just thrown together; some Chinese Contenders players were offered to join and they declined. Check out PlatChat's podcast episode on it.
Anyways, I'll post my Archives 2021 Skin review soon, I just felt like posting this earlier than planned. Also, if you have the time, you should check out PlatChat's power rankings, it's really long, like almost 3 hours, but from what I have watched it's really funny and informative.
TLDR: Look at the image below or read the full post, please, and thank you!

Haikyuu Thoughts (Only Ten Episodes In And I Already Have Four Faves)
Hoo boy, I am asexual tactile garbage we all know this right? That I will cling to just about anything as long as the character is compelling, makes me laugh, or any of the above strictly in that order. With that being said, this is the fastest that I've garnered three husbandos and one platonic bestie in the span of ten episodes of knowing these characters. That being said, one of the husbandos I don't know a whole lot about and seems to be the antagonist of the main series for the moment so there won't be much about him. But with all that said let's get right to it! I'll continue to update this thread with more of it in the future letting you know if anybody slips from their spot or another gets added. So far, I have not ever had more than one husbando in a show so this is the first time that I remember being here in Haikyuu Hell as I have lovingly dubbed it.
I say that we start off with platonic and work our way up! I feel like my best friend in the canon of the show would hands down be Yu Nishinoya. I love him, so much. He just seems like to me the type that works the hardest due to all the bruises that we see him with when he comes back from his suspension. Watching him play volleyball is something that never fails to amaze me. He's constantly around the ground and making sure that the ball doesn't hit the ground, since that's the libero's job but I love his dedication. This is what we're working with, since I haven't known him for very long but just look at this smile-
Tumblr media
(I had a better plan of him smiling with one of my other husbandos that we'll see later on down this list but Hulu was being a bitch and wouldn't let me take screenshots.) I think that Noya would be my best friend because it's a contrast in personality. I've been told on countless occasions that I work way too hard and that I would feel much less anxiety if I just relaxed and something tells me that Noya would be the perfect boi for that job.
The first emotional attachment that I made was to the first character that really helped Hinata. That would be the vice president of the volleyball club Koshi Sugawara or Suga as the club seems to call him more often than not. Suga is the sweetest person in the show in my personal opinion. He is always willing to help out anybody who is needing of it. I think that if anyone of the main group is the mom friend it's him. He's always just that one tired mom who loves her kids but they exhaust him like nobody's business (then again if I had to be on the same team as Noya and Tanaka I'd probably be in the same boat LMAO baby I'm sorry). He's also a badass setter too! When you actually see him in action when he works with Noya and Asahi in the episode that I just finished I was in awe of how good of a setter he was. I just think that he's the sweetest thing imaginable and I love how he isn't even mad that they have Kageyama on the team. Usually, this type of character would come off as petty since his position is kind of in jeopardy but he'll willingly go out of his way to help Hinata and Kageyama. Honestly, I just absolutely adore Suga. If any of these three husbandos were to be scrapped leaving only one it would be a really tricky decision but I would pick Suga.
Tumblr media
(I love this baby's character design too his lil mole reminds me of my own that I have on my upper lip.)
Alright, we got the serious one out of the way that doesn't even remotely fit into my typical type. You probably knew that this was coming since I already briefly mentioned him when I talked about Suga, but if anybody makes me laugh until my sides are absolutely aching who's personality just is completely one hundred percent crackhead that I grew an immense emotional attachment to it's Ryunosuke Tanaka. This is probably going to get a lot of head scratches but HEAR ME OUT. Before you judge me hear me out. I feel like he's just a really funny character, but more than that he's an incredible senpai and friend to Noya, Hinata and Kageyama. I mean he gives off one hundred percent lazy boi vibes but he still got up at five in the morning so that the first years could practice in the actual gym. I love that for him and it told me a lot about his personality. He will fight anybody who insults his friends, there's a reason why a lot of the opposing teams hear that they have a delinquent on the team. If anybody dares to insult Hinata they will have a very angry Tanaka coming after them at full speed to defend his favorite first year. I thought that in general that it said a lot about his personality. That he might be a flirt but, much like Noya, he's an insanely hard worker, good player, and does whatever it takes to defend the first years on his team.
Tumblr media
(Can I also say that their friendship is Bromance material 101. Like I love their friendship SO much it's so funny and just top tier all around would be best friends with both of them just for the laughs.)
This last one is going to be a lot shorter because to be honest, I don't know a whole lot about him other than he's pretty and he looks to be a goofball with his team 👉🏻👈🏻. I have not seen much from Aoba Johsai but umm I really, really caught the feels almost instantly for Toru Oikawa. I don't have much reasoning, because again I have only seen him in one episode but he already became instantly added to this list. I know that he isn't an entirely bad person and that he's a goofball around his team. I already think that he proves to be a formidable opponent and I can't wait to see more of their rivalry and hopefully see more of Toru in the process.

after seeing dumpywoof’s post I was inspired to do a tier list of my own!!! and boy howdy do I have some hot takes of the century it turns out,,,
the seasons are more or less organized in descending order within the same row as well (e.g. MC 4 > MC 5). also, shamefully copying dumpywoof & putting a detailed & overly verbose explanation for each season:
S Tier
Terraria 3: For me, absolutely nothing compares to Terraria 3. No other season combines such perfect participant dynamics with such heart-wrenching drama—not to mention the existence of Team New Kids who make me cry on a daily basis, or the incredible fake twist ending. It would be a sin to put this season anywhere but alone at the very top. Also props for being the only (1 of 2) post-show that actually includes all of the cast.
 A Tier
Minecraft 4: This is the best season for shenanigans alone, hands-down. It’s largely just the participants shooting the shit together, especially in the latter half of the season when it gets down to just the four of them. & I have a huge soft spot for men being wholesomely foolish together I suppose, so here it goes fhdhfhd.
Minecraft 5: To be honest, I have not seen this season since it released, which is a crime, I know, I’m sorry :orb: But I remember it being very very good, & I cannot imagine my taste will have changed that dramatically in just a few years, so. in truth, this one might be actually better than MC 4, but as I have not seen it in many years I can’t say that for certain. Either way, though, it’s definitely one of the best seasons out there.
MineZ 1: To me, MineZ 1 is the reverse of MC 4: low on shenanigans & high on drama. It’s pre-Todd era, but the editing in this one is honestly Todd-level, I would say. It’s so incredibly tense, especially the scene with McJones & PBG trying to escape the caves, and I feel like the sheer stress of it all brought out a new side of a lot of the participants, most notably Dean—who sounded genuinely agonized at times. A very very quality season all around, IMO.
Terraria 2: This season probably objectively deserves to be B tier, but I am it giving A tier for personal bias. I just,,, love the dynamics okay. Jeff & McJones especially made for a killer duo. It was a rare instance of McJones being the funny man himself rather than being the straight man to someone else’s funny man; he was super uncharacteristically goofy & almost borderline flirtatious at times, it really made for some good moments fhdhfjd. Plus then you got McJones solo commentary at the end which I greatly enjoyed. Just,, a very enjoyable season, very mid-HC era, very light & easy to watch, all that good stuff.
Diablo II: Man,,,,this absolutely 100% does not deserve A tier, I know, I’m sorry, but I just can’t bring myself to put it lower. I have A tier love for it :orb: Admittedly, the game is horrendously ugly and confusing to watch, but the shenanigans + the cast dynamics win me over in the end. Paul especially was great in this, & I hope he makes a return someday. Loving fathers Paul & Jirard with their sorceress son McJones making their way through the end-game just cannot be beaten. (Anti-shoutouts to Ross though, I don’t know anything about him, I am sure he is a lovely man, but GOD. WHY DID HE KEEP RUNNING OFF ON HIS OWN & GETTING LOST BUT THEN FORCEFULLY REFUSING HELP,,, ROSS YOU ARE THE WORST DHDHFJDJD)
 B Tier
Minecraft 7: Boy,,, this is going to be a controversial take fhhfjdjf. I just don’t know how to explain it, but something about MC7 felt,,,, Very off. I don’t know what it was, just something about the season seemed very,,, almost like you could tell things were falling apart behind the scenes, & they were trying to pull it back together but weren’t quite succeeding. It’s not a bad season in any regards, of course, I just,, don’t enjoy it nearly as much as a lot of others,, it’s missing that crucial spark of life in my opinion,, also Dean leaving to go to work was kind of strange,, I get it, it’s probably difficult to work around his real-life job,, but it felt strange,, he got like temporary immunity. Nothing like that had ever happened before I don’t think. And also they never even explained why Dean wasn’t there for like three episodes fjdjfjhd,,
Minecraft 3: God I feel like I just keep digging myself into a deeper & deeper hole here fhsjfjd,,, but man, I did like MC3 to be honest. It wasn’t the best season, it kind of went nowhere, but I liked the cast & there was a lot of good funnymoments. Smooth & Shane were very good guests who I feel like really rounded out the season, & Jontron did not come off as terribly overbearing as I believe that he has in other seasons. Overall, pretty decent, I’d say.
 C Tier
Minecraft 2: MC 2 & MC 3 are very similar, but I think MC 2 is slightly worse, both in terms of entertainment & cast. NCS & Kyrak did not hit like Smooth & Shane did,,, and I feel like just everything that happened in this one was fairly forgettable. I was torn as to whether this should be a B or a C, but I put it here in the end just to drive home that I really don’t like it as much as MC 3, I don’t believe.
Minecraft 6: Oh lord, this is a nuclear take fhdjfjd. Again, this isn’t a bad season at all, it has its good moments, especially Chad & Dodger, they are angels & I love them & want them back. But boy,,, just. Many things went wrong here. None of the twists panned out like,, at all, which I know isn’t necessarily anyone’s fault, the concept of this twist & of twists in general is very good. But it fell so flat here, especially with the revival. There was,, no debate at all about what to do. They hyped it up like they had this big decision to make, but then nobody made any effort to dramatize it at all. It was basically just Dean deciding by himself and everyone just sitting back & letting him. For the record, I have no qualms with the fact that Dodger was revived, I fully agree that she deserved it over McJones, but it was not played well at all IMO,,,      I do have to admit, though, with a fair amount of sheepishness, that the thing that most sullies this season for me is McJones’s death. Just,,, his horrible, so so avoidable, insanely early death, coupled with his retirement shortly thereafter & him becoming so jaded with hc that he expressed borderline hostility & hatred towards it just,,, hurts. I kinda don’t wanna see the events of MC 6 now knowing the aftermath. I understand fully that this particular point is not something most people care about to say the least dhfhdjd, but,,, in all honesty, I really don’t have any desire to rewatch this one, as objectively good as it might be. It was a win but it felt like a loss, if that makes sense. Also the post-show lacked all three people I actually wanted to hear from fhdjfjd neither the two people who could’ve been revived nor the actual person who did the reviving were there to share their insight & perspectives on it :pensive:
 D Tier
Starbound: man,,, starbound. This is a very mixed bag for me. On one hand, I disagree with people who say that it was boring or that nothing happened, I found it very tense, Todd’s editing had me on edge throughout every episode. But on the other hand,,, man. Very few memorable moments, what even happened in this one,, also I feel like the game mechanics/plot weren’t explained very well, I feel like I remember being vaguely confused all the time as to what was happening. Probably will not ever rewatch either.
 Have Not Seen
DayZ: I will not ever be watching this season both because I do not know anything about DayZ & because from what I’ve heard it was an absolute disaster, I’m just not interested in getting involved in that fhdhfjdk
Terraria 1: There’s not really a reason I haven’t watched this one. Just,, I haven’t made my way down to the earliest seasons yet. Although as mentioned before, I have seen a few clips of this season, & Jontron seems to be pretty obnoxious in this one, so I don’t how much I’ll enjoy the parts with him in it, but I definitely do want to watch it someday.
Minecraft 1: The same as Terraria 1, I just happen to not have seen this one by chance. But unlike T1, I am much more looking forward to actually watching it, it seems really good, I want to experience that legendary very first season at last dhdhfjd
MineZ 2: Man,,, many things about the behind-the-scenes of this season make me sort of uncomfortable honestly. Just,,, the visceral second-hand shame & embarrassment of someone in the hc fandom being so rude & bothersome to the cast,, somehow it makes me feel personally responsible even though I didn’t do anything fhdjfj,,, Also,, once again continuing with the trend of me being saddened by McJones expressing dislike for seasons fhdjfjd,, I do recall him saying, regarding this season, something like “I think it would’ve been better if we just never did this,” which,,, ow. That doesn’t make me particularly enthused to watch it fhdjfjd. I probably will end up watching this season someday to be honest, but I’m not looking forward to feeling the cast’s frustration & unhappiness with the situation,, (EDIT: I want to be clear that there is no actual drama surrounding minez 2!!! it is a perfectly fine season, there is nothing wrong with it, it just happens that I personally am bothered by the fact that there was a lot of like,,, frustration coming from the participants regarding the player who was stalking them. this in no way means that minez 2 is an objectively bad or problematic season!! if minez 2 is your favorite season I completely respect you, there is nothing wrong with that!! there is a lot to like about the season as a whole!!! I just personally care too much about mcjones having a bad time in seasons bc it’s what ultimately led to his retirement, & that makes me sad fjdhfjdjd. but it has come to my attention that my wording made it sound like there was drama about minez 2, which there never actually was, I am very very sorry for my unintentional yet poor choice of words.)

i want to get into jojo, but i dont know where to start lol, do you think you could summarize it:?
ok ok so despite what people say, my friend gave me a flash drive with all of part 3 (stardust crusaders) on it, and after that i watched 4 and 5 and then went back to 1 and 2 and god i’m terrible at explaining but I’ll try my best lol
Anyways tbh,,, each part can be watched on their own since they all have a different protagonist and plot/setting. I don’t recommend watching it completly out of order (like 4->2->5->etc) but recurring characters from other parts are present so you may not fully understand their importance at first.
SO it’s very long like not as long as homestuck but maybe a tier or two below so I’m going to go over the main aspects of each parts below with a copied-pasted summary from the wiki in italics and a better understanding underneath:
Warnings: gore heavy, sexual assault, I’ll add more as I think about it (i’m sorry it’s almost 1am here)
Some good ol’ vocab
Hamon/Ripple: a technique used in the early parts of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Through the use of controlled breathing, the user can fill their body and attacks with sunlight energy, making it very effective against Vampires, Zombies, and Pillar Men.
Stands:  a visual manifestation of life energy, unique to the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series. It generally presents itself as a figure hovering over or near the user and possesses abilities beyond that of an ordinary human, which, depending on the Stand User, can be wielded for good or evil.
Part One: Phantom Blood (9 episodes)
In 19th-century England, a youth named Dio Brando is adopted by the wealthy George Joestar to repay Dio's father for seemingly saving his life. Jonathan Joestar, who aspires to become a gentleman, finds himself shunned by his family and friends as part of Dio's plot to take the Joestar fortune for himself.
This is the beginning of JJBA. Each protagonist of each part is nicknamed “JoJo” (i.e. Jonathan Joestar), so like it’s the protag’s bizarre adventure, and they are super weird!!!
Anyways Dio is Jonathan’s adoptive brother, and he’s like just pure evil and is the antithesis of Jonathan and later he becomes a vampire. Jonathan meets a man who teaches him Hamon/Ripple which he tries to use against Dio.
Part Two: Battle Tendency (17 episodes)
Taking place in 1938-39, the story follows the misadventures of Joseph Joestar (a.k.a. JoJo), grandson of Jonathan, as he masters his innate Ripple abilities in order to combat hostile, ancient super-beings named the Pillar Men, creators of the Stone Mask that plot to become the ultimate lifeforms.
Joseph is Jonathan’s grandson, so this shows that this series follows the JoJo bloodline (so like descendants of Jonathan) and their misadventures. But yeah like the summary above states, Joseph also learns Hamon/Ripple (it’s the same thing idk why it has two names).
Part Three: Stardust Crusaders (48 episodes)
Jotaro Kujo and his friends as they journey from Tokyo to Cairo to save his mother's life by defeating his family's resurrected archenemy, DIO.
OK the concept of Hamon/Ripple here is just, completly removed lmao and in my opinion i think it’s better. Hamon is replaced with Stands, which many characters have. Jotaro Kujo is Joseph’s grandson, so again, follows the bloodline. HEY I LOVE THIS PART!!!! The majority of the story takes place in south Asia, the Middle East, and Egypt which is great bc i’m brown and it’s nice to see some rep in anime even if it’s not the main focus lol ANYWAYS sorry for the tangent just if anything I recommend starting with Stardust Crusaders since Jotaro is kind of the mascot of JJBA, but of course up to you
Part Four: Diamond is Unbreakable (39 episodes)
Takes place in the summer of 1999 in Morioh, a midsized japanese town. Jotaro Kujo has come to visit for two reasons. One, to meet Josuke Higashikata, Joseph Joestar's illegitimate son. And two, to find a serial killer, and figure out how he got a stand.
Parts 4-6 explore the Stand concept in depth, where they came from, why certain people get a stand while others don’t, etc. while also havinf their own plots aside from that. Part 4 is more slice of life-ish but of course still has it’s fair share of gore and sadness, but compared to others I personally think it has a more uplifting endings than the other parts which is great bc Josuke deserves the world
Part Five: Vento Aureo aka Golden Wind (39 episodes)
Set in 2001 Italy, the story follows Giorno Giovanna and his dream to rise within the Neapolitan mafia and defeat the boss of Passione, the most powerful and influential gang, in order to become a "Gang-Star". With the aid of a capo and his men, and fueled by his own resolve, Giorno sets out to fulfill his goal of absolving the mafia of its corruption.
This is the season that just ended (summer 2019). Giorno is actually Dio’s son, but is still considered to be part of the JoJo bloodline because of.... spoilers. ANYWAYS this is kind of where jjba becomes more “feminine” in lack of a better word; with its floral/art imagery and Giorno not being as masculine as the other parts’ protagonists. Anyways i cried.
Part Six: Stone Ocean
In 2011, Florida; Jolyne Cujoh, daughter of Jotaro, is wrongfully accused of a crime she didn't commit and sent to a maximum security prison. While imprisoned, she struggles within a longstanding plot agreed between dead villain DIO and ideologue Enrico Pucci.
Here is our very first female jojo (wow gif) but let me tell you all the female characters in this part are so badass and powerful in their own ways it’s just... wrow. This part isn’t animated yet but hopefully will be bc I need to see Jolyne or else I will die.
Part Seven: Steel Ball Run
Set in the U.S. in 1890, the story follows Johnny Joestar, a paraplegic ex-jockey, and Gyro Zeppeli, master in a mystic art named the Spin, as they compete with a vast number of others in the Steel Ball Run race: a mad-dash across America for a grand prize of 50 million dollars.
Steel Ball Run describes a new continuity apart from that detailed in Part 1-6 of the series. On top of core features to JoJo such as Stands, the story is marked by many references to the original series.
Legit I just finished reading this in the last week and it is a fan favorite. I’m still processing everything that happened honestly kjsdhfsjkdhfj but yes it’s good 9/10 imo. Anyways this is on a different timeline from parts 1-6 because of the events that happened in Stone Ocean.
Part Eight: JoJolion
The story begins in 2011 and follows Josuke Higashikata, a young man afflicted by retrograde amnesia, in his search to uncover his identity in Morioh Town, a coastal Japanese town affected by the Tohoku earthquakeW. However, his digging pulls him and his adoptive family into the unfinished business between his previous life and an impending inhuman threat.
I haven’t read this part yet but i will, but know that this part is in the same timeline as Steel Ball Run.
OK THANK U FOR READING i didn’t do any of my hw and I’m going to sleep now but I hope this helps!!! IM SO SORRY IF THIS IS MORE THAN YOU WANTED I’m just extra and hopefully this can be summed up in a better way but yeah: that’s jojo’s bizarre adventure in a nutshell.

The Report Card -- Fantasy High Sophomore Year Ep 1
Sophomores and Spring Break
Note: Hey guys! I decided to try something a little bit different and slightly more structured than my usual recaps for FH: Sophomore Year. I’m hoping this will be a little easier for me and a more useful tool for keeping up to date since there will be a lot more eps to keep track of and they’ll be easier to miss. Lemme know what you think and if you want raw, unfiltered opinions on anything specific, feel free to send me an ask. I’m always down to go off about literally whatever.
We’re back, baby! It is Sophomore Year at Aguefort and the gang is on Spring Break. A lot is going down so lemme break it down. The Bad Kids, having defeated Kalvaxus last year, are all entitled to a share of his hoard and all the red tape is finally cleared so they all get 20k gold each (which is an insane amount of money converted to USD if you use the WOTC conversion rate of a gold coin being around $145 (circa 2006 when they answered the question)--which would be close to $330 with inflation). Jawbone and Sandra-Lynn are moving in after less than a year into a profoundly haunted house and it’s kind of a Full House situation because Adaine, Fig, Kristen, and Tracker all officially live there (plus it seems that Zayn has also anchored himself to Adaine’s tower--btw, Adaine took the tower that the haunted house obviously has) and you know all the other Bad Kids are gonna be there on the regular.
More importantly, Aguefort gives the gang their big project for the year--finding the crown of the Nightmare King which was stolen at the end of last season--which is worth 60% of their grade (Adaine does a full Hermione at this information). Each of the gang has info about the NK but the trail has mostly gone cold. Luckily, Fabian just got a hot tip about where Falinel is keeping Aelwyn and she seems like a pretty good lead to start with since she was super tied up in the bad side of all the messiness of last year. Adaine is displeased to say the least.
Going off to find the crown is super exciting story-wise for two reasons. First of all, it means the gang gets to hire, well, hirelings to help them and temporarily join the party! They ping basically every cool NPC they can think of (except for Tracker for some reason which is BONKERS because (1) she probably would have done it for free and cutting her in would still be keeping the money in the family, (2) she’s dope as hell, (3) she’s a cleric and the party can always use more healers, (4) she’s a werewolf so presumably she has skills that would help in the woods, and (5) they’re t r a c k i n g down a crown and the girl’s name is literally T R A C K E R, but I will not backseat D&D) and eventually end up with Ragh (who has been without an adventuring party all year, poor guy), Sandra-Lynn (swayed by a nat 20 rolled by Fig), Cathilda (!?) ,and, for some reason, Gilear (which Fabian is happy about, mainly for the opportunity to maybe bump him off on the way). Second of all, if you recall, Elmville is a pretty modern town but the rest of the continent is less fantasy high, more high fantasy. Horses and lanterns and all that pseudo-medieval goodness. They are gonna stick out like a sore thumb. I am very here for it.
Everyone goes home to rest up but, after some ominous dreams, only four of them wake up. Riz and Fig are left asleep and then Brennan mic drops and ends the episode which is a power move and I am extremely upset about it but also, respect. Right for the jugular immediately. I heard Murph and Emily are on tour in the UK next week which probably has something to do with this but, in the moment, I did not know that and I really felt the hammer drop in my heart. It was wild. Cannot wait to see where we go from here. Plus, who doesn’t love watching characters freak out because their friends are in danger?
Random Thoughts
I have no idea what the title of this episode is or if it’ll even have one and not a number but I gave it a placeholder one for now. I also don’t have access to the stream yet so I didn’t get to include some info I wanted to (like a record of nat 20s, and nat 1s so I can track their stats for the school year) and I probably missed some stuff because my brain can only hold so much info guys. I’m not Brennan.
I mentioned this yesterday during the stream, but there will never be anything better than the pure D&D joy of everyone, in character, talking over each other to clown on each other. They get the friend-group banter that’s a hair breadth’s away from bullying so true to life and it’s so fun to watch. On the flip side, the opening scene with everyone introducing themselves and affirmatively claiming each other as their best friends was also peak D&D. Found family= best trope.
Fig and Adaine burn spell-slots at basically the same time to try and beat each other to the best room in the (Scooby-Doo ass) house--which is exactly the kind of thing that would happen in this world. It’s such an intuitive setting. I love it so much. (BTW, Fig ends up staying in the false space under the revolving grand piano because, of course).
Fabian and Gorgug went to recruit Ragh, who assumed they were propositioning him for a three-way. In his defense, they did do it in a super proposition-y way and they were in the middle of the LGBTQ student union.
Also, Gorgug gives Ragh an inspiring speech about thinking you’re your own dad which makes him burst into tears.
Speaking of, Jawbone offhandedly says he’s poly but, like, based on some of the stuff he’s said, I feel like that’s not really a reveal. He also gets along well with Gorthalax and would be down w/ a three-way if Sandra-Lynn wanted to which, again, totally checks out.
Arthur Aguefort uses Chronomancy to rewind time and catch a snide comment Adaine made under her breath, which is exactly the kind of frivolous use of God-like power I’d expect from him.
I really love Adaine’s energy coming into this season. She’s in therapy. She’s in a good home environment. She’s comfortable enough with her friend group to do stuff like prank Fig (love that they’re gonna be living together now). And she’s good friends with Zayn now which I want to see more of based on their one interaction in this ep which was very cute. I am already on record as saying I would be down with her getting a ghost boyfriend--I mean, for the aesthetic alone--but I’d be happy with just more friendship.
Fabian is also hilarious this season because you can tell he’s gone a bit soft from having friends and leaning into that (the friendship necklace with Riz) but also he’s fully aware that it’s happening so he’s, like, ping-ponging back and forth like, “These are my friends,” and, “What am I saying? I used to be cool,” and it’s very funny. Very happy the Aelwyn storyline is happening right out of the gate, both because I think Aelwyn is a very interesting character with a lot of potential for nuance but also because Fabian reacting to her and Adaine reacting to Fabian reacting to her is always gold.
Prompted by an offhand conversation from Fig about rock and roll, Brennan--earning another feather for his Cap of God Tier DMing--goes on an impromptu five minute long improved diatribe about a bard who played such a good concert that it instantly impregnated everyone in attendance (dudes too) who gave birth to kids with sick rocker hair and denim jackets and ascended to Rock Heaven on their 18th Birthday. You truly have to watch it to believe it. At a certain point I thought he was gonna drop it but that was the moment he doubled down and kept going. Amazing.
Watching Murph, in real time, make up a girl/boy/whateverfriend in Fantasy Canada was a gift.
I don’t have access to the stream yet but best quote of the night that I can remember is Kristen choosing her room: This is triggering and I’ll take it. (Her line about her lesbian starter kit and the one about wanting a horse were also bangers).
The group talks about what they’re going to do for transportation outside of Elmsville since they don’t really use cars out there and they somehow get from “disguise Fig’s tour bus” to “commission Aguefort to create a brand new animal that can hold six people plus hirelings, one of which is Fabian who is also riding his motorbike”.
I love that Sandra-Lynn’s Mom Powers work on Tracker.
Basrar doesn’t accept the invitation to come with on the quest, but he does give Kristen a bag of infinite ice cream sandwiches, which is basically just as good, IMO.
Oh Gilear. The man is sleeping in the Seacaster garage, being bullied by skater kids, and now he’s stuck on this quest with his ex and Fabian who actively wants him dead.
Speaking of, I’m psyched to see more of Sandra-Lynn. She was kind of a sleeper badass at the end of last season.
Ragh is keeping secrets which I hope the cast doesn’t forget because it could be nothing serious (like the high school drama happening with Skrank and the 7 maidens--maybe he’s just crushing on Gorgug who did full kiss him during Promocalypse) or it could be Serious Business that will blow up if the don’t stay on top of it. We’ll see.
Oh, almost forgot. Adaine wants an emotional support frog. Every time I think I can’t love her more.
Detention
Fig for Not Respecting Personal Boundaries
Fig goes full Emily right out the gate and, after finding out that Skrank (nerdy bird dude who apparently can get it) was not only dating Ostentasia (rich, popular dwarf) but also dumped her in pursuit of Danielle Barkstock (one of Ostentasia’s party members, the scandal), disguises herself as him with Danielle to figure out what’s going on. And, wouldn't you know it, when she gives herself away, Danielle immediately is shocked and appalled, as you would be, obviously. We also learn that she’s still catfishing Dr. Asha which is, how you say, for sure a crime. Fig, please, I’m begging you. Cease.
Honor Roll
Fig, Riz, and Adaine for Researching the Nightmare King
Fig made both lists, look at that. Wasn’t my plan for this to be a three-way tie (also didn’t expect to use the word “three-way” this many times in this writeup) but I think their contributions were pretty much equally valuable. Rainsolo on the Discord wrote up this summary of the lore dump Brennan gave them.

Hi! Ok so I'm totally taking you up on your offer and gonna send in some stuff! So, I did a rewatch recently and took a few notes (mostly following 5 bc his concept and interactions are just so fascinating to me) and I noticed some stuff! 1] none if the kids have practically ANY physical interaction unless it's a fight or Allison and Vanya. Idk about you, but to me, that implies an oddly formal relationship even tho they're family and makes 5 and the handler that much stranger (1/?)
(2/?) And gives it that much of a contrast. I think someone on here counted that she touches him like 20 times or something? Idk BUT 2) there is such a clear divide between the “older” and “younger” siblings bar Diego and Klaus that it almost feels like 2 different families at times and it’s really interesting! 3) only 3 siblings have canon PTSD flashbacks/visions if we exclude Vanya during her breakdown: 5 and Klaus obviously, but also Allison, which is really interesting and plays into how
(3/3) Her growth bc of Claire. 4) 5 had to see his dead siblings, we know this, but he was also the one holding the cloth over Allison’s neck when Vanya attacked her, which is a horrifying detail but I love it. 5) there were 2 extra seats at the dining table in the flashback of all the kids! It’s probably not important, but with the shows attention to detail I can’t help but wonder. Also I’m sorry I just completely dumped on you but I wanted to know your thoughts 😅😅 that and I love your metas
yeAH my sister pointed out to me at one point that the Hargreeves familiarity with violence was alarming in that a lot of their physical interactions with one another were… violent. Diego fighting with Luther at the funeral. Klaus smacking Five across the face at the eyeball place. Luther choking Klaus. Luther choking Vanya. Ben punching Klaus. Like genuinely a concerning amount of their interactions with one another involve some form of violence oof and none of them really apologize for any of it either. It’s accepted and made to seem almost normal which says all manner of bad things about their family dynamic rip
BUT they also have interactions I feel are at odds with that - Vanya taking care of Five’s arm, Diego tying up Klaus to detox, Klaus attempting to comfort Luther even after literally just being smacked around by him, Diego with Klaus at the vet bar, Klaus and Five’s conversation on the steps of MeriTech where Five tells Klaus about Dolores - just these soft in between moments where they look after or confide in one another
and all of those moments are private, they’re one on one whereas in a group they tend to fight and put up walls and argue which says to me that collectively the family wasn’t allowed to show weakness (thanks Reggie) and so they fight in order to protect their weak points before anyone can attack them
there’s like, the four A’s of how people handle conflict and one of those is aggression. It’s attacking because you feel like if you aren’t on the attack then you’re the one being attacked. It’s raising your voice and being the aggressor and starting conflict because you’re trying to protect yourself, because you’ve learned that it’s kill-or-be-killed and if you aren’t on the offense then you’re being hurt (i know there’s avoid and appease and i can’t remember the other one off the top of my head whoops)
so what i’m saying is that when there’s witnesses, when there’s a group, they’re on the offensive from the start. But alone, there’s a little more wiggle room for weakness. Alone is at night when there’s no training left in the relative safety of their own rooms. Alone with one other person is private, and privacy is safety in a house like that.
So there’s this paradoxical roughness and softness with one another, they were in competition with each other no doubt but they’re also family. Reginald pitted them against one another, but there’s no possible way to keep walls up ALL the time, you know?
but yeah i have a lot of feelings about the kids interactions with one another to say the least u picked a topic i like to ramble about as is clear from all this text and i didn’t even talk about the handler and how i feel like her touch was with the primary motivation to make Five uncomfortable and to punish him for his rebellion
okay there is more to this ask and this response is going to get so long I can already tell sorry in advance
and yeah the divide between the siblings with ‘older’ and ‘younger’ siblings is interesting!! Luther-Diego-Allison are one-two-three and are sort of purposefully portrayed as the older siblings. I definitely think Luther and Allison were off in their own little world as kids and they were definitely the golden children, the good kids, the ones who didn’t really question their father and avoided a lot of punishments. They were set apart from the rest of the family - and I think a lot of that was on purpose.
Because Reginald Hargreeves pitted these children against one another, in a move that honestly was smart even as it speaks to the fact that he’s a horrifying human being: because if there is discord among the ranks and rivalries and pettiness then the kids aren’t banding together against the true threat in the household - they’re going at one another’s throats instead of Reginald’s. The rivalry between Luther and Diego is probably the clearest portrayed tbh but Five was clearly also held up as someone to beat, someone who was competition (”he ADAPTED”)
so it’s almost like there are three groups really - the ‘good’ kids, the middle kids, and the disappointments. You have Luther and Allison at the top, Diego and Five and maybe Ben in the middle (and Five is only in there because he’s too headstrong, too willful to be at the top because Reggie doesn’t appreciate those that can think for themselves), and then you have Klaus and Vanya way down at the bottom. And there’s crossover relationships between the tiers (Diego and Luther’s rivalry, Five and Vanya’s solidarity, Klaus and Ben being bros etc.) but they were divided up on purpose tbh
alright moving on i could yell about how reginald fucked up a bunch of perfectly good kids all day lmao but
Allison is such an interesting character in general??? like she’s not even in my top three for the show but damn if tua doesn’t have some seriously interesting characters in the show hot damn like her journey from petulant and manipulative child familiar and comfortable with violence to an adult trying desperately to piece her family back together and prove to herself that she can be the good mother she desperately wants to be to Claire
i feel like i yell an awful lot about luther and allison for someone who has them towards the bottom of their list of favs tbh whoops
also GOD how dare you remind me of Five’s Extra Trauma regarding that scene holy heck like is wasn’t enough he had to find his siblings dead bodies in the apocalypse he also has to press his hands to his sister’s throat and literally see the life fade from her eyes as they rush to save her?? like shit man and that’s a concept that i haven’t seen anyone really do anything about as well like actually @ authors who aren’t me bc i have a dozen other aus to write on top of my various ideas, someone please address this
also do you think that’s the reason that Five initially agrees to killing Vanya at the bowling alley?? because he’s thinking about Allison’s blood hot against his hands and he missed the entirety of the apology/Vanya freaking out scene???? I mean even though I yell about Five’s motivation being his family I don’t think it was out of character for him to turn on Vanya because in his mind stopping the apocalypse has become so entwined with saving his family that they might as well be the same goal
if it helps though i don’t think five would ever actually kill Vanya even if he did okay the plan like look the boy could have jumped behind vanya himself and snapped her neck like did you WATCH the fight scene in Griddy’s holy shit but he does Not do that because he doesn’t want his sister to die and he especially doesn’t want to be the one to kill her and that’s the tea on that
alright where was i
HMMM i dunno if there was any significance to the bigass table other that i mean,, technically there are two other family members?? There’s Grace and Pogo if you count them, but i mean otherwise I think it’s just a feature of a mansion to have a bigass dining room table that can’t possibly fit the entire family
so maybe it was a statement about Reginald not considering Grace and Pogo to be members of the family and excluding them
or maybe it’s just a rich people table lmao
but i really enjoyed all your thoughts and observations 10/10 feels free to yell at me again ;3c
I will admit that i’m a bit of sham because i’ve only seen the series like,, one and a half times?? like once all the way through and then watching the first few episodes again and then jumping around the random points to fact check or other things oops but i do plan on rewatching sometime when i actually have free time to spare!! only a few weeks until the end of the school year oof

Medea Rambles: Ash’s 1st Meaningful Victory (because nothing else counts according to the internet)
Tumblr media
Oh for God’s sake, Medea! Literally, nothing better to talk about!
You just finished four animes today alone and must work on reviews. There’s a whistle-blower causing major havoc at the White House. Your birthday is tomorrow! Why must you poo-poo on Ash’s victory?
Because bitching at things makes me whole. Especially if it’s Pokemon related!
Because after five days of watching the internet lose its fucking mind over Ash winning the Alolan League and glaring at post after post of people bypassing or insulting or simply saying “it doesn’t count” to one of my favorite battles, I feel like ripping a new asshole in several places.
But first, DISCLAIMER!
Tumblr media
Be warned, yes this is my own personal opinion on this matter. Some people believe the exact opposite of me and that’s fine. Your opinion is noted and I think you’re trash. Take what I say with a heap of salt. Because I’m definitely in the minority. So here we go!
So on Sunday, September 15th, 2019, our boy Ash Ketchum finally did it. He did what he couldn’t do in the past 22 years. Something we only saw some mystery guy in Kanto, a random fuckboy from Johto, a dude with Meowth in Boots in Hoenn, a troll from Sinnoh, an Eevee-hoarder from Unova, and a dickhead in Kalos accomplish up to this point.
Tumblr media
HE. WON. THE POKEMON LEAGUE!
Not since the infamous kiss of Yuri and Viktor from Yuri On Ice or the 19th episode of Demon Slayer or Myne about to be executed in The Rising of the Shield Hero have I seen such a magnitude of people losing their shit about anime. It was so crazy that Ash Ketchum was trending at #1 the entire day, news outlets like BBC and CNN were writing articles about this accomplishment, and yes, special outpouring from fans and relations alike.
Seriously, you all should read Rica Matsumoto’s interview and watch the video Veronica Taylor put out.
But I just can’t help but be bitchy about certain things people keep saying. It’s like a drill to a tooth it’s that annoying. First of all, just because he won a single championship, does not make him a “Pokemon Master”. And secondly, there was a league that Ash won 20 years prior to this victory. It’s called the Orange League.
Tumblr media
Yes, I know. I’ve heard it all. “That’s not a real league because it was never in the manga and games. This was just a filler arc to prepare us for Johto so it’s nothing in the eyes of Arceus. The Orange Islands are a distant memory and Alola is doing everything right that your little arc couldn’t do. Screw your cherished memories! The Orange Islands aren’t even mentioned in the latest Pokemon Guidebook. They’re nothing! HARHARHARHAR”
Let me catch my breath before I threaten every fuckface that said any such thing with a punch to the throat.
Just because it wasn’t in the manga or games doesn’t mean it doesn’t count. Since when do you people hold that into account? Ash is absolutely NOT from the Pokemon Adventures manga (other manga, that’s a given) and definitely not a game character. A lot of things exist in the anime that don’t in the manga and games. And that includes characters too! Y’all remember Paul, right?
Tumblr media
I seriously don’t get the likability of this guy. I personally find him as pleasant as renal failure. But the fanbase for this little shit is out of this world in the Pokemon fandom. And hey, guess what?! Paul is an anime-exclusive character? So should his fighting with Ash be illegitimate? Fuck no, what idiot would want that?! Right!
Add to that, the Pokemon Leagues have a different setup than they do in the manga and games. I don’t recall having to go through the top-tier system in any of the games to become champion of a region. You fight a bunch of Ace Trainers on Victory Road to level up so you can go up against the Elite Four and then take on the champion. The anime, you fight against other trainers who won the correct amount of badges needed to enter the league and knock each other out in pokemon battles.
I would always imagine that if Ash would win a championship from one of these leagues, that he would then go on to fight against the Elite Four and then Champion. But silly me for thinking such a thing could ever happen. That would have been so awesome to see in Sinnoh or Kalos! But I digress. Many things are different from the anime. Those stupid Princess (fuck I can’t remember what they’re called) that Serena was in weren’t in any other form. But people still worship the little princess and her stupid shenanigans like it’s going out of style.
In short, Orange Islands should not be written off just because it was never part of the manga or games!
Now onto those who say that because it’s from a filler arc this victory should not count as well. Or saying that because it’s different, it’s an illegitimate league and it doesn’t count. Who the fuck are you to say that? Was there a lost episode where some old crone comes and says the Orange League doesn’t count? NO. THERE WAS NOT. Now, I can’t recall if the creators/writers themselves have said anything on the matter. But until I see that, I’m just going to say this simple thing.
The word, “LEAGUE” is in the fucking title. Ash fought in the Orange LEAGUE and fucking won. Ash won a LEAGUE in 1999. There.
Now I admit, the Orange Island gyms were very different in terms of pokemon battles and even the league as well when compared to every other league up to this point. Some were a little hit-and-miss in the pay-off, but some were absolutely epic. Again, the Orange Islands gave us things you miscreants take for granted including region variant pokemon and double battles. That’s right, first official double battle was in the Orange Islands. Suck it!
Tumblr media
But I think it’s because for the Orange League, it was only a two-episode saga and Ash was only battling one guy. Hey, don’t write that off! In case you hadn’t realized, that was also Ash’s very first six-on-six battle. And he fought against a champion who has a Dragonite with a total of 10 moves. So imagine all three Dragonites Lance uses in the Gold/Silver games and combine that into one Dragonite. The fact that Ash was able to win this particular battle astounds me to this day. I mean, if it was his Sinnoh or Kalos team, fuck yeah. But this was his early years with pre-evolved pokemon like Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle.
Then again, Ash’s Alolan team wasn’t any better. I don’t think I should bring up that travesty you call a battle against Hau, do you? No. Let’s not!
Tumblr media
Another overlooked victory of Ash’s was when Ash obtained all seven symbols from the Battle Frontier. Yeah, I can understand that since this was sort of filler between Hoenn and Sinnoh and there wasn’t an actual league. But can you all fully admit that you were able to defeat all of the Battle Frontier Brains in Pokemon Emerald? WITHOUT CHEATING OR USING A GAME SHARK?! Yes, Ash did that. And yes, he had to do several rematches when it came to battles against Anabel and Brandon, but he still managed to take down everyone. Yes, even Brandon with his legendary Regi-trio! Just because this was not an actual championship, doesn’t make it any less. He was offered a chance to become a Frontier Brain, but declined to do more traveling.
What I want to say is that the Orange League and the Battle Frontier shouldn’t be thrown in the trash just because they’re “different” from the status-quo pokemon league.
And as for Ash winning the league, I’m glad he finally won after such a long time. I mean, even if you did count the Orange League or Battle Frontier, it’s been a long time. I just really feel conflicted because it was THIS league that he won. Not the league where he and his Infernape proved to their rival that they are not pathetic. Not the league where he masters synchronization. This one.
Tumblr media
The saga where he looks like Luffy’s idiot cousin. The saga where he doesn’t even have a full team. And to even come from the same league where he almost loses the whole match for putting all his faith in an insomniac birdo.
Fine, if I just ignore that match and pretend it never happened, Ash’s league matches were really good. He was able to take out the undefeatable Guzma and kicked Faba’s ass one more time just for good measure. And even though the finale was just a measly three-on-three (yeah, I’m a snob like that), Ash vs. Gladion was downright epic. Especially Lycanroc vs. Lycanroc. Give credit where credit is due.
I just ask you do the same for other victories.
BTW, Ash vs. Paul is still the best league battle. I’m just saying.
This has been Medea...and time to watch my yearly odometer roll over.
