#ended up writing an au where wwx has a son and how that works out for everyone

I love phoenix wwx so imagine an au where the jiangs are all bird hybrids and when the wens come and takeover lotus pier they rip out jc's wings so instead of a golden core transfer wwx has wen qing give jc his own wings and it works miraculously, and jc and wwx's feathers are both black so jc doesn't suspect a thing. But then wwx is tied up and thrown into the burial mounds, and if he'd had his wings he could've escaped, even despite his restraints. But he doesn't have wings anymore. So for the first time in his life, he falls.
Wwx doesn't know he's a phoenix tho, so he doesn't know that his tears have healing properties or anything like that. Since he doesn't have wings anymore, he created some: wings of inky black shadows that whisper and scream their grievances as he flies. But at the very least, it's something.
The cultivation world thinks it's unnatural. Jc thinks wwx lost his wings to the wens too, but wq and wen ning are enemies of the state. He can't possibly search them out now, when he's just starting to rebuild Lotus pier. But he begs wwx to tell him how to save him, how to fix his wings like his own had been fixed, but wwx always refuses and tells him that he prefers his new wings to his old ones.
And lwj (who is a dragon bc I like the stuff I've seen for dragon lwj) doesn't approve of wwx's new flight methods either, but wwx keeps telling him to shove tf off and so they fight.
Wwx's method of demonic cultivation is basically just like canon tho, just that he can also fly with it, so like the rest of the narrative happens as a result of that.
When wwx dies, he's being torn apart by his own corpses when all of a sudden he bursts into flames. He's screaming and wailing, and the air smells like burned, rotting flesh, and at the end of it all is a gigantic pile of ash.
Jgy is the only person who finds, buried amongst the ashes, a baby boy, burning bright with fever and with bright, silver eyes.
Jgy immediately knows what had happened, having studied Phoenix's himself, and takes the baby home. At first, he announced that the baby is his son. However, phoenix children, even a half phoenix child such as wwx, age at a rate faster than their peers up until a certain age, so when wwx ages a year in a matter of a month, jgy makes up a whole thing about his son being poisoned, and goes to war. Wwx's aging slows down once he hits thirteen, and so jgy renames him mxy and introduces him as another one of jgs's bastards (jgs has so many illegitimate children he doesn't suspect a thing). And so wwx is raised as mxy, up until he's about twenty five.
Jgy had locked wwx up and made him wear crazy makeup so that no one would recognize him, and collected bottles and bottles of wwx's tears. And wwx is content with this, bc he has never really known anything else. When wwx turns 26, however, he stumbles into jgy's treasure room and finds suibian and a book of his past life's writings. Normally phoenix's remember their past life, but wwx's end was so traumatic that in his rebirth he forgot Everything. This was also helped by a number of rlly bad chemicals and whatnot that jgy had been slipping into mxy's makeup. But finally wwx remembers, and so jgy makes up a story about how mxy sexually harrassed him and throws him out of lanling, locking him up at Mo Manor until jgy can find a more suitable prison for him.
That night, the arm is set loose at Mo Manor.
And then the rest of the story kind of progresses like the original except in this one wwx knows that jgy is up to something, but he just doesn't know what. And at some point, during guanyin temple, jgy reveals wwx's phoenix nature. Wwx himself is shocked, bc he had spent the entire rest of the story trying to figure out how he had come back to life.
After everything, during the confrontation between jc and wwx with lwj, wen ning steps in and pins jc to the ground and lights jc's wings on fire. Jiang Cheng screams, until he realizes that his wings aren't actually burning, but instead turning crimson red. Wen Ning reveals that he hadn't known that wwx was a phoenix, though his sister had guessed he might have been due to Wwx's unusual bone structure and feather length. She had tended to wen ruohan, who was also a phoenix hybrid, and she had told wen ning that normal fire cannot kill a phoenix, but among Phoenixes it was a tradition to steep their children in fire, as the fire changed their wings from black to red as a sign of their passage into adulthood. Since wwx's parents had died when he was young, he never got to experience this tradition, and so his wings had remained black. Jc is appalled as he starts to piece things together, and tries to deny it. However the crimson color of his wings, a phoenix's wings, confirm everything wen ning is saying, and jc runs off, frantically asking everyone what color his wings are and to set his wings on fire again, until he crumbles into a heap and just sobs.
Bc one of the big reasons why jc had been so mad at wwx when he'd developed his demonic wings was bc one of the things he had loved most about wwx were how strong and powerful his wings were, much more powerful than jc's own. And one of the most important things to him had been flying with wwx, and in those three months wwx had been gone all he had wanted was to get wwx back so that they could fly together once more. But when wwx had returned he kept refusing to fly with jc, and had kept pushing him away. So jc was heartbroken and grew angry and resentful, and so when ppl started telling him to stand against wwx and his wicked ways, he had stood against him, bc it wasn't like wwx needed him anymore or anything, and it wasn't until after wwx picked up his demonic wings that he'd started pushing away and eventually abandoned jc for those goddamn wens. So maybe demonic cultivation really was evil after all.
How cruel to find out only now, after everything had been said and done. How cruel that all those years ago, he had thrown himself into the wens hands and lost his wings to save wwx, sacrificing the most important part of him and dooming him to what would've been a slow and agonizing death, and then spend so many years resenting wwx for the death of his sister and his family, for repaying jc for his ultimate sacrifice by betraying him and abandoning him when he needed wwx most....only to find out that wwx had sacrificed just as much, maybe even more, for jc, and had been with him always, a symbol of his unwavering devotion to jc and his family even when he had been missing those three long months. How cruel. How cruel.
And yeah this is very pieced together and confusing but wangxian get married and idk I think it'd be interesting.
Also nie Huaisang helped wwx get into jgy's treasure room and find his own writings (gifts from Huaisang to jgy), then set the arm out at Mo manor, but if you ask him anything about any of what’s happened then he’ll only say that he doesn't know, he doesn't know, he really doesn't know.

uhh please enjoy this rough draft of the first half of chapter two of Iron, Blood, and Grave Dirt, aka the demon baby!A-Yuan au
-
0. Lan Wangji arrives at the Burial Mounds too late to find A-Yuan, but not too late to see Jiang Cheng and the YunmengJiang disciples flying away with him. He follows.
He waits, bleeding and aching, for night. It doesn’t take long - Lotus Pier isn’t far from Yunmeng, as the sword flies, but the day has already been long. When the sect compound quiets, Lan Wangji slips in.
He is spotted almost immediately. He is clumsy with pain and grief, and Jiang Cheng has not trained his people to be incautious of intruders. Through sheer force of will, he (mostly) does not lean on the alarmed disciple who offers him an arm, a seat, a bed in the infirmary, Hanguang-jun?!?
It’s easier when Jiang Cheng stalks into sight, because Lan Wangji is fueled by determination and fear and rage and love and just a little bit of spite.
He may never know what in his face - his posture? his mere presence? - makes Jiang Cheng’s eyes widen in realization. He will certainly never realize that Jiang Cheng’s voice cracks more with betrayal than fury when he says, “You? You knew?”
He dismisses his disciples with a sharp wave of one hand and Lan Wangji stays standing because he is bleeding and broken but his hand is on Bichen’s hilt, he will fight if he has to, because -
“Wei Yuan.”
“Is my nephew, and you are not touching him.” Zidian throws off sparks.
It’s a testament, frankly, to Jiang Cheng’s mental and emotional disarray, that Lan Wangji is the first to realize that they do not need to kill one another in defense of the same child, because Lan Wangji is, as discussed, bleeding and broken and 3 steps from passing out.
“He needs to be...hidden,” he says.
Jiang Cheng laughs with bitterness so vast it can only be folded and compressed to rage, like steel folded into a sword, and waves a handful of papers bent in one fist. At Lan Wangji’s stone-faced bafflement, he loosens his grip and smooths them out, and shows off the familiar handwriting. Unfamiliar designs, but recognizable concepts.
“Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji breaths without a thought.
“I went looking in his room for- some sort of explanation,” says Jiang Cheng. “Found this half-baked thing - it’ll disguise resentful energy as spiritual, if- when I finish it.” (The sort of invention that would get the Yiling Patriarch accused of villainy and deception from the eastern sea to the western heavens, but both of them know that’s not the reason for it.)
“Will you?” says Lan Wangji (and can you as well; both rude, but the older Lan Wangji grows, the less time he has for politeness.)
Jiang Cheng nearly spits at him, and for once, that is answer enough.
Here’s where, in another timeline, Lan Wangji might collapse and need a bed to lie on, or Jiang Cheng might look him over and offer one, and the Second Jade of Lan might spend his seclusion, very quietly, at Lotus Pier. This is not one of those timelines, though. In this one, Jiang Cheng looks him over and maybe, maybe he thinks about it - but instead he bunches the paper up in his fist again and drops it to his side, and says gruffly and almost kindly, “Go home, Lan-er-gongzi. Can you make it?”
Lan Wangji doesn’t waste his effort nodding.
“Good. Then go. You being here will only raise more questions.” As an act of mercy he says, “Wei Yuan has a fever, but it’s probably some fucky demonic thing, not real illness. He’s - ” his face twists - “strong. I’ll send you a message when he pulls through.”
1. Wei Yuan is still bedridden when he receives his first (remembered) assignment from his sect leader (that isn’t “go to sleep” or “eat your soup” or boring stuff like that). But he’s been permitted to sit up and provided pencils and paper with which to draw, so long as he does both without either getting up further or making enough noise to wake the baby (again). He’s doing it all fantastically, singing softly to himself in accompaniment to the story he’s drawing about two butterflies who are friends, when actually it’s shushu who breaks the quiet.
Wei Yuan looks up in shocked delight. “That was a bad word!”
“Oh shut the- ” Shushu, who is also Sect Leader Jiang, takes a deep breath and puts aside the papers he’s been reading, in chair near Wei Yuan’s bed. He eyes Wei Yuan sitting attentively with his lapdesk, and the baby (Jin Ling, Wei Yuan’s cousin) in the crook of his own arm, and opens his mouth to shout for a servant - than looks again at the sleeping baby. At Wei Yuan. He releases the shout as a slow, quiet, exhale.
Very carefully and slowly, without adjusting the angle of his bed-arm almost at all, he stands, walks over, and puts the baby down on the bed next to Wei Yuan.
Wei Yuan holds perfectly still. He doesn’t even breathe. Jin Ling squirms a little, and shushu takes Wei Yuan’s arm and tucks it around his fuzzy head, so Jin Ling still has something to nestle into. Possibly even shushu holds his breath as Jin Ling quiets again.
“Don’t move,” shushu instructs quietly and quickly. “Don’t let him move, except to wiggle or whatever. I’ll be right back, I’m just going to go get a couple reports from my room. If he wakes up and starts crying, shout for help.”
He pauses and adds, “Breathe, A-Yuan.”
Wei Yuan takes in a deep, gasping breath, and immediate tries to calm it so the baby doesn’t notice.
“Got it?” asks shushu.
Wei Yuan nods as furiously as possible without moving anything below the neck. Shushu gives him a serious nod and slips silently out of the room.
(Wei Yuan doesn’t...remember either his uncle or his cousin, or Lotus Pier or much anyone or anything else. Shushu and the doctor say the second thing is okay because he’s never actually met Jin Ling before, and anyway Jin Ling is so little that he doesn’t remember anything at all; and the first and third are okay because he had a bad fever and it hurt his head, and so long as he can still remember things like words and how to draw butterflies, and kind of remembers enough that he never thought to be scared of waking up in Lotus Pier with a grumpy uncle beside his bed, then that’s okay. And they also say it’s very impressive that he can count to three, which is satisfying.)
2. “I’m Chifeng-zun!”
“I’m Sandu Shengshou!”
“You always get to be Sandu Shengshou - I want to be Sandu Shengshou!”
“Fine - I’ll be Lianfang-zun!”
“I’m Hanguang-jun!”
“Don’t be stupid,” scoffs A-Jiao, and pulls the sword-shaped stick from his hands. “You have to be the Yiling Patriarch.”
“Who says!” Wei Yuan demands, and grabs the stick back. “Gimme Bichen!”
“Everyone says!” A-Jiao refuses to let go, and gives it a good hard yank for good measure. “You look like him, my mama said, and he’s your dad and you’re weird!”
It’s one of the weeks when Jin Ling is at Carp Tower, is the problem. Those weeks are always the worst. When Jin Ling is here, Wei Yuan can bounce happily between training and lessons and playing with Jin Ling, and nobody complains at all. When Jin Ling gone, Wei Yuan has to try to play with the other kids, the couple in the sect and the varying dozen who run around the market while their parents tend stalls. It’s pretty much always terrible.
He lets go of the stick abruptly and lets A-Jiao stumble back.
“Fine!” he shouts. “I don’t want to play Sunshot anyway! It’s stupid!”
Jiang Cheng finds him a couple hours later, sitting in a corner rather than eating dinner with the other young disciples like he should be.
“What are you doing?” he demands. “What’s this I hear about you shoving a girl in the market?”
“I didn’t - ” Wei Yuan redirects his scowl to his knees (it’s not a very good scrowl, anyway. There’s too many tears hovering at the corners of it.) “Sorry, Jiang-zongzhu.” (It’s Jiang-zongzhu when he’s yelling, especially if Jin Ling isn’t here.) (Wei Yuan can call him shushu sometimes, but not Jiang-shushu, because he makes a Face and then snaps at everyone even more than usual.)
“Hrmph,” says Jiang Cheng, because there’s clearly, like, Feelings happening here, and that’s bullshit. “Are you still wearing that necklace I gave you?”
“Yes, Jiang-zongzhu.” Wei Yuan brushes his hand along the chain and pulls the pendant out for inspection. It’s not especially pretty, just a few lotus seeds carved with marks indicipheravle through the thick lacquer that glues them together. It makes him feel a little better and a little worse, because it’s something his father, the Yiling Patriarch made for him, a protection charm that shushu found (he says) in a pile of Wei Wuxian’s things, and passed on to Wei Yuan.
“Good,” says Jiang Cheng. “Now, if you have a problem with anyone, show them up by getting your butt to dinner and eating well, and going to bed early, and being better than the rest of them in training tomorrow. And every day after that. That’s the only real way to get people to shut up.”
Wei Yuan looks up with a little bit of hope in his eyes.
“And you’ll be waking up early to kneel for an hour, because YunmengJiang disciples don’t shove girls in the marketplace. What are you waiting for, go! You want all the food to get cold?”
3. Wei Yuan thinks that maybe the Second Jade of Lan is heartbroken, that Wei Yuan doesn’t recognize him. It’s very hard to tell - there’s the slightest widening of his eyes, the tiniest downturn of his mouth - but that very reticence of expression is what makes Wei Yuan think that even the little he sees probably says quite a lot.
“This one apologies, Hanguang-jun,” he says with as formal a bow as he knows. “I had a fever, when I was little. I don’t remember a lot, from before I was four.”
Lan Wangji remains silent.
“I’m seven now,” Wei Yuan says helpfully, straightening, because he just had his birthday and he’s proud of the fact.
“You have grown,” Lan Wangji manages, because that’s certainly one of the things that is leaving him frozen.
Wei Yuan beams up at him. “I’m 120 centimeters tall!”
“And you are...well?”
(It’s...possible that Lan Wangji had entertained himself, from time to time in the last three years, with thoughts of striding into Lotus Pier the second he was free of “seclusion” and being instantly greeted by Wei Yuan flinging himself into his arms. Wei Yuan would be simultaneously weeping with yearning and beaming with pure joy, that wide smile that was so very much Wei Wuxian’s even when nothing else about their faces looked particularly the same (except the eyes, the ghost-pale eyes). Wei Yuan would cry that Jiang Wanyin was a wholly inadequate guardian and beg to go back to Gusu with Lan Wangji, or maybe to travel around doing righteous things, and in the truly extravagant dreams, he’d say that before leaving him in the tree, Wei Ying had confessed that - )
“I’m very well, thank you!” Wei Yuan says with perfect manners, and beams Wei Wuxian’s smile. “I...” He looks around uncertainly. “I was doing sword practice, but I guess that’s...over?”
“LAN WANGJI!” comes a familiar bellow as Jiang Cheng stalks into the training yard, a couple junior and senior disciples at his heels. Others have clustered at the edges of the yard pushed back by more or less the force of Lan Wangji’s focused attention. It is...possible that Lan Wangji carried out the first part of his daydreams without thought, striding (barging) into Lotus Pier without warning and not stopping until he found Wei Yuan and confirmed that he was -
He blinks. “You plan to wield a spiritual - ”
Jiang Cheng grabs the interfering idiot in white by the elbow and pinches hard enough to bruise, and hisses in his ear, “Don’t you dare fucking tell him.”
4. Jin Ling sprinted down the corridor, shrieking gleefully at the top of his lungs.
“I’m gonna get you! I’m gonna get you!” Wei Sizhui hollered at his heels. “I’m gonna - ”
“HEY,” Jiang Cheng broke off conversation with a disciple to bellow, as both boys skidded to a halt. “Do you think this is a playground? A race course? Shouldn’t you both be in lessons right now?” In fact he knew they should be, Jin Ling with learning letters with his brand-new tutor and Wei Sizhui in basic talisman class with the other young disciples, under Yang Bozhao’s watchful eye.
“Lessons are boring,” Jin Ling said promptly, though he had the grace to look shifty.
“Many apologies,” Wei Sizhui said much more politely and a little out of breath with laughter, half a step behind him. “A-Ling wanted to play, and Yang-shixiong said we may have a stretch break - ”
“So you run screaming through the halls of my ancestors?” Jiang Cheng snapped. “A-Ling, back to your tutor - I’m sure she’s looking for you.” Though how the woman could’ve missed the trail of shouting, he couldn’t imagine. “Wei Sizhui, you will return to class, then you will report to the discipline hall, for three hours’ scrubbing floors and contemplating proper behavior.”
Wei Sizhui looked unhappy, but he bowed. “Yes, [shifu].”
“What- but then we can’t play [checkers]!” Jin Ling complained.
“Tough luck,” said Jiang Cheng.
“But - ” Jin Ling looked between his cousin and his uncle in bewilderment. “I wanted to play tag and I don’t have to scrub floors! Why’s A-Yuan got to!”
“Because Wei Sizhui is four years older than you are and should know better,” Jiang Cheng snapped. (Though, gods all above, he regretted letting Lan Wangji choose that stupid courtesy name.) He loosened his darkest glower. “Such impropriety brings shame on our sect, and on any decent ancestors he has.”
“A-Ling.” Wei Sizhui caught him by the elbow.
Jin Ling shook him off, balled his fists and planted his feet with all the authority of his five years, and glared back at Jiang Cheng. “No!”
Great, now Jin Ling’s getting into trouble because of him, Jiang Cheng thought, and, I don’t know why I expected propriety from a literal demon child anyway, and, Mother, please! You don’t have to cut off his hand!
Ever since he’d first gotten it, Jiang Cheng had gotten used to letting Zidian react to his mood with little restraint. So what if it meant people could read him - they’d also know he was strong. He was used to the comfortable feeling of it warming on his finger, sparks crackling, bond to his golden core strengthening.
With hardly an indrawn breath, he cut it off so hard and absolutley that for a moment the ring felt foreign on his finger, cool and distant and dull.
5. There is something terrible in the Lotus Lake.
It comes and goes, swimming here and there or not appearing at all. Often it is with a group of living things, or at least one or two, though it does not devour them. Always, it is draped in illusions such that the water ghoul trapped under the boulder cannot identify it apart from the other bright and living things until it comes close, terrifyingly close. Close enough to see the ghoul and, according to the ecosystem of the dead, devour it.
But it does not. Nor does it devour the bright things among which it swam, ripe with power through they were. So very ripe, so very bright... the water ghoul strains to reach them, scrabbling against its imprisoning boulder with resentment that grows day by day, year by year. Only when the dark and terrible thing appears does it cease its struggles, frozen in the pale fear of the dead.
Until the boulder moves. Years of scratching and scrabbling with nothing more than fingertips, from the ghoul’s place buried in the silt...the boulder moves. It tips just an inch, just a millimeter - and then another. And then another. The ghoul scrabbles for purchase to pull itself up, to push its cell door further; it twists and contorts and shoves and breaks free.
The water ghoul has long since forgotten who exactly it blames for its death. It rages simply at the living, every bright, breathing one of them. They’ve taunted it for years, swimming down to tap its prison door like a challenge, ignorant of the hatred beneath - no more. There are two little bright things on a raft above. The ghoul rockets silently up toward them with all the hunger and fury of the dead. They will make a good start.
Too late, as usual, it realizes that one of them is the monster. It cannot stop its charge - it crashes into the raft and knocks it over, throws both riders into the moonlit water. The ghoul does not think well; it is a creature of jealous rage and hunger. It hesitates - and goes for the smaller prey, the one that is prey, is bright and screaming with life and breath and a flickering, half-grown golden core -
“Stop!”
If the ghoul has long-since forgotten language, stewing in silt and resentment, cannot misunderstand the monster’s terrible will, carried on a wave of resentful energy that crashes on it with frothing fury. it cannot resist the wave, either, strong with inpatience though the ghoul is. The ghoul freezes -
“Come over here!” follows on the first demand’s heels, crashing upon the ghoul with a panicked desperation that it would wonder at if it had the mind to do so. With what it has, it fights this one harder, self-preservation stronger even than the need to kill that one child that dares live when it was dead. It snarls silent defiance at the monster even as it swims helplessly closer.
Go away! It’s not spoken at all this time, but that hardly matters. The monster’s eyes are wide and white-edged and its power floods over the water ghoul, and the ghoul accepts the mercy for what it is and swims as fast and far as it can.
“A-Yuan?” Jin Ling’s voice is high and just barely held together, though at least he’s managed to get back on the raft. “Is it gone? Did it bite you? Was that a ghoul?”
“...Yeah,” Wei Sizhui says slowly. He stops treading water and swims back to the raft (overturned, and all their illicitly collected lotus seeds lost). He doesn’t climb on when he reaches it, just holds the side and looks back in the direction the...thing went. He can almost still feel it, he thinks, if he focuses his golden core like he’s meditating, reaches out to commune with the energy around him...
“Yeah,” he says more confidently. “It’s gone, A-Ling. You don’t need to worry.”
Jin Ling lets out a shuddering breath of relief. For a moment, Wei Sizhui feels pretty good, Responsible Older Cousin-wise.
Then Jin Ling scrambles over to his side of the raft, threatening to overbalance it again, and asks, “How?”

Hello! I wanted to rec a fic on ao3 called "Restoration" by jelenedra. It's complete, an alternate universe of the sunshot campaign told nonlinearly. It has strong fairy tale and fae elements, with a touch of mystery. Bit of a fix it. Some delightful one liners, and the final ending imagery is just LOVELY. The fic deserves much more love. There's also some YilingWei, wwx not raised by Jiang, and sentient Burial Mounds elements. Enchanting read that keeps you enthralled and curious and intrigued.
Restoration
by jelenedra (M, 85k, wangxian)
Summary:  They say he was thrown into Luanzang Gang by the man who killed his parents; they say that he is an immortal cultivator who had been in a deep trance until the Wen sect disturbed his rest and incurred his wrath; they say that he is the fierce corpse of a cultivator who had somehow regained his mind and his spiritual powers.
When Lan Wangji sees him for the first time, he understands why people talk.
Meng Yao wants safety. Xue Yang wants vengeance. The Sunshot Campaign wants victory. Yiling Laozu provides, for a price.

hello mojo! i was wondering if I could make a fic rec? it’s called “and the calm is deep where the quiet waters flow” by izanyas. it used to be on ao3 but the author has since moved it to eir own website and has started posting updates there. i was wondering if this could also act as a signal boost bc some old readers on ao3 might not have known that it is now on another website.   Author's been through a tough time so I think it deserves a lot more love.
For new readers, please mind the warnings in the prologue and the beginning of each chapter! it’s omegaverse and a very heavy read as it deals with (possible spoiler) off-screen rape that results in an unwanted pregnancy, as well as secondary gender oppression which runs deep, but for people who can bear it the writing, worldbuilding, and emotions are truly spectacular.
and the calm is deep where the quiet waters flow
by izanyas (E, 270k, wangxian, WIP, link is to WordPress rather than AO3)
Summary: Cangse Sanren was the first of her kind to become a cultivator. Talented, passionate, free-spirited, she bested everything that ever came her way until the very end.
Jiang Fengmian refuses to see her son deprived of that same freedom.
~*~
Hello Mojo! I dunno if this's been recced before, but here's another ficrec for you? It's complete, on ao3, "The Third Young Master of Qishan Wen" by KouriArashi. It's 'if wwx was raised by dafan wen, but gets recognized as 3rd heir due to his skill' scenario. Some really nice banter and characterization. Wwx and lz get together before the sunshot campaign. Story follows the live action but diverges into au, and does some cool callbacks to original canon. Love Meng Yao in this!  [Oh, I know KouriArashi from my last fandom, I love her works!]
❤️The Third Young Master of the Qishan Wen
by KouriArashi (T, 139k, wangxian, my post)
Summary:  The fic where Wei Wuxian is adopted by the Dafan Mountain Wens instead of the Yunmeng Jiang.

Hi Mojo! I can count the number of times I’ve spoken on Tumblr on one hand (I’m shy heh) but I found this fic that I think you and others would really like? I’m a sucker for emotional hurt/comfort and this was just too sweet for me not to share (did I go through 20 pages of bookmarks just to make sure you don’t already have it? Maybe …) [Aww, you can do a sidebar search in the bookmarks for the author’s name.  But I hope you found other good fics by carding through the whole catalog!]  It’s “Close Your Soft Eyes” by timetoboldlygo! I also wanna say thank you for all the hard work you put into this blog! It’s a treasure beyond compare. :D [Thank you so much!]
Close Your Soft Eyes
by timetoboldlygo (G, 12k, wangxian)
Summary:  When Lan Wangji woke, the first thing he noticed was the slip of paper, folded and tucked between his index and middle fingers, not Wei Wuxian’s absence. His fingers trembled as he unfurled the paper. A donkey with a little smile beamed down at him.
-
On the nights that Wei Wuxian was gone, Lan Wangji woke to gifts on his pillow.

Hey Mojo! I love your blog it is beyond awesome! [Thank you!]  I was wondering if you would consider reading JaenysBloodcourt series "A Bond to Takes us home"? The summary is weird but I like the fics and would love to hear your opinion on LWJ POV (it's part 2). Part one is Mingxian but part two (Wangxian) reads as a standalone for the most part. Anyways, thank you for all your hard work! <3 [I’ll put it on my list!]
A Bond to Take Us Home
by JaenysBloodcourt (T, 10k, mingxian - nmj/wwx, wangxian, series in progress)
Summary:  Wei Wuxian has two soulmarks. He has two soulmates that seem to be the opposite of him. During his first life he meets both of them, loves only one and longs for the other. In his second life, the one he loved first is dead, and the one he pined after is pining after him.
These are the many tales of his soulmates and the raucous they made across the cultivation world.
Some are dark, some are light. Beware.

I forgot to send this in for Mother's Day a few weeks ago, but have you read dragongirlG's "into the light of a dark black night"? It's a short canon divergence where Mama Lan escapes the Cloud Recesses after spending one last, heartbreaking night with her sons. It's so beautiful and bittersweet! [Oh, ouch.  I just read this author’s time travelling juniors au, but hadn’t seen this one.]
into the light of a dark black night
by dragongirlG (T, 3k, Madam Lan & sons)
Summary:  The night that Wu Yuhua, formerly known as Madam Lan, plans to escape from the Cloud Recesses, she runs into an unexpected complication.
That complication comes in the form of her younger son A-Zhan running up to her door and kneeling in front of it, hushed whimpers escaping from his throat.
Wu Yuhua knows it's not the full moon, knows that it's not the one day a month she's allowed to see her children—but like hell is she going to leave her six-year-old son out there trying to stifle sobs in the snow.
She opens the door. "A-Zhan," she says, bending down and reaching out a hand. "Come in, my sweet boy."
On a snowy night in the dead of winter, Wu Yuhua, formerly known as Madam Lan, unexpectedly spends one last night with her sons before escaping from the Cloud Recesses.

Renouncement verse: you said lwj combs wwx hair in the morning, can you write the first time that happens? Maybe wwx gets overwhelmed but lwj won’t let him run away
anon 2: For your arranged marriage au, I would love it if you can do some domestic scenes between them. Basically things like hair brushing and braiding or making dumplings together, etc 🥺
(brief author’s note: please please reblog if you can, since that’s how we get prompts for future chapters!)
On Wei Wuxian’s first day as a married man, he opens his eyes at chen shi to find Lan Zhan still lying in the wedding bed at his side.
When the two of them prepared for sleep the night before, Wei Wuxian expected Lan Zhan to retire in full dress, since he had done so every time the two of them slept in the same room before their engagement. During the time they spent traveling together, Lan Zhan only ever removed his shoes before going to bed; he even kept his hairpieces on, most of the time, and he only took them off to keep them from stabbing Wei Wuxian in the face on the few occasions where space constraints and over-booked inns required them to rest in the same bed.
On their wedding night, however, Lan Zhan undressed behind a privacy screen (nearly frightening Wei Wuxian back to death, given the context of what he and Lan Zhan are to each other now) before bathing in a wooden tub and emerging with his hair down and his forehead ribbon looped around his wrist. He was wearing a clean set of sleeping robes, loosely embroidered with clouds and white flowers to match the nightwear Wei Wuxian received as one of his many wedding gifts, and then they got under the covers and went to sleep without saying a word to each other.
But they held each other the whole night through, which is why Wei Wuxian feels so painfully shy when he wakes up in Lan Zhan’s warm embrace with his left ear pressed over his husband’s pounding heart.
“Does being a newlywed excuse me from getting up at five?” he whispers, trying to hide his face in Lan Zhan’s soft gown. “Can I go back to sleep?”
He isn’t actually sleepy, though; the excitement of the wedding has been thoroughly transformed into the nervousness of a new bridegroom, bringing a thousand uncertainties about living in a new place, with a new family, and with new duties to tend to. No one expects him to do anything, he knows, but he has to do something, or—
“Wei Ying.” Lan Zhan leans down and kisses his forehead, calming his fears just enough for Wei Wuxian to decide that getting out of bed might be worth it today. “You may do whatever you like, and no one will think any worse of you for it. But will you eat before going back to sleep, at least? For me?”
They eat breakfast together after that, and Wei Wuxian notices that the meal seems pointedly unsuited to Gusu tastes. There is a little bamboo steamer filled with baozi, with pork and cabbage filling for Wei Wuxian (and possibly a vegetarian filling for Lan Zhan, though none of those end up in Wei Wuxian’s plate) and hot dry noodles coated with peanut sauce and chili oil, just like Jiang-shushu used to make for family breakfasts sometimes—and then a few plates with the usual trappings of a meal served to a bridal bedchamber, like sesame cakes and preserved dried longan fruits, but Wei Wuxian ignores them and sticks to the noodles and sweet millet porridge. After all, he rarely had sesame cakes during his childhood at Lotus Pier, and he likes lotus-seed cakes better, anyway.
“There will be some for lunch,” Lan Zhan assures him, and Wei Wuxian flushes at the realization that he must have said that last aloud. “Brother sent a butterfly to tell you that Li Shuai intends to spend the next week cooking southern dishes and preserving them for you and Xiao-Yu to eat later on.”
Wei Wuxian feels his heart swell. “Really?” he smiles, finally reaching for one of the sesame cakes and putting it into his mouth. “But she’s supposed to be our guest, Lan Zhan.”
“Yu Zhenhong is with her,” his husband points out. “The pair of them took over the kitchens and drove out all the disciples on cooking duty. I expect that the whole clan will know what hot peppers taste like by tonight.”
Thoroughly cheered up by the mental image of A-Shuai cackling over a Lan kitchen cauldron and forcing it to learn the touch of chili paste for the first time, Wei Wuxian finishes his meal and then returns to the bedroom to dress, since he and Lan Zhan are expected at the hanshi for the auspicious hour to greet Lan Zhan’s family. He decides to dress in his usual colors, with a deep red undergown against his white silk chemise and a blue patterned over-robe on top of it all, and then he spends a few minutes choosing a new hair ornament: but the old wooden guans have been put aside for Xiao-Yu, and all of the silver hairpieces feel strange when he touches them, so Lan Zhan picks up the gold lotus comb and helps Wei Wuxian put it on.
“You have thicker hair than I thought you did,” he murmurs, as he places the teeth of another comb—white ivory, this time, and part of Wei Wuxian’s wedding dowry—against the crown of Wei Wuxian’s head and smooths the knots out of his hair. “It curls a little, just here.”
Wei Wuxian nods drowsily. “I use hot oil to keep it straight. Jiang Cheng does, too.”
Lan Zhan nods and keeps working with his comb, brushing out every last snarl until Wei Wuxian’s hair is smooth and glossy again. It still falls in waves, since he hasn’t doused it in hot soybean oil since the day he left Yunmeng, but it looks presentable enough; and then they put their shoes on and get ready to leave, though Lan Zhan makes Wei Wuxian put a cloak on to keep the morning breeze off his shoulders.
“A-Yu has not seen you for nearly ten hours,” Lan Zhan reminds him, holding out his hand for Wei Wuxian to take. “Come, Wei Ying. We must fetch our son.”
Our son.
Oh.
He and Lan Zhan share two children.
How on earth had he forgotten that?
We can make this work, he realizes. At least until Lan Zhan finds the person he really wants to marry.
“All right,” Wei Wuxian laughs, lacing their fingers together. “Let’s not keep them waiting.”

Untamed TAZ Balance AU? Don't have to write anything, just consider that (is Wen Ning Lucretia in this or is he too nice for that)
NHS IS LUCRETIA, NHS IS ABSOLUTELY LUCRETIA, I HAVE THOUGHTS, my girlfriend yelled at me for these thoughts.  Hell this got long, I’ve literally been saving it in my drafts until Tumblr fixed the Read More issue.
WWX is Taako, JC is Magnus, WQ is Merle, JYL is in the umbrella (became a lich to keep her brother from doing it), WN is the Red Robe (became a lich because he thought it seemed reasonable), NHS is Lucretia, XXC is Davenport, LWJ and LXC are mutually Kravitz (LXC sets his bro up with the death criminal wizard), Wen Zhuliu is John Vore, LSZ is Angus but also a baby Reaper
ONE
So Wei Wuxian isn’t really a wizard, is the thing.  Like, he does the wizard magic, and apparently he has strong Wizard Vibes because wherever he travels, people ask him if he can solve their magical bullshit problems, but he’s, like, barely a wizard.  He’s an inventor, technically, except that a few years back some stuff went explosively awry while he worked with this traveling show and–yeah.  So he’s working as a wizard because, hey, he can cast Magic Missile and he needs to eat and he’s an Evocation specialist, anyway, so it’s not like he’s out here making food from rocks.  He’s hired on with a couple other random jackasses, a fighter who took a dislike to Wei Wuxian right off the bat and a cleric with a bad temper and an itchy Sacred Flame finger, and they’re doing a job for some dwarf, or whatever.  The dwarf has a guy hired on as muscle, but he doesn’t look like much, all wide eyes and baby face.  He calls himself Qionglin, no last name, and stares at Wen Qing like he’s never seen a cleric before, and Jiang Cheng spends the entire trip to Phandolin messing with his whip, which is the stupidest weapon Wei Wuxian has ever seen.
Well, then everything immediately goes horribly wrong, though, and turns out that Jiang Cheng is pretty okay with that whip.  Qionglin (Wei Wuxian spoke to the man all of one time, but he was sweet, if a little awkward) gets himself kidnapped by a bunch of goblins, and their employer is gods-know-where with whatever a Black Spider is, and suddenly this very boring escort mission is a very not boring rescue mission.
There’s a skeleton in the cave.  Wei Wuxian takes an umbrella from it, and it crumbles into dust beneath its red robe.  There’s a very annoyed man with a sword who calls himself Song Lan and speaks in static, and he’s somehow not the weirdest part of this whole day.
Phandolin doesn’t survive its brush with the Zidian Gauntlet, and neither does Qionglin.  Wen Qing screams when he dies, and Wei Wuxian grabs her under the arms with Jiang Cheng and books it for the empty well in Song Lan’s wake, and they just hide.
And then they go to the goddamn moon, apparently.
TWO
The goddamn moon is run by an older man with hair still a glossy black, toying with a beautifully painted white fan in his hand.  He calls himself the Director and–after some testing–hires them more or less on the spot.  Something flickers over his face when Wen Qing, bemused by her own upset, makes an offhand mention of a man named Qionglin who died when the Gauntlet brought down so much lightning that it turned Phandolin into black glass.  But it’s not Wei Wuxian’s problem, so he doesn’t worry himself over it too much.  He takes the payment offered to him by the Director’s aide, a blindfolded, stunningly handsome man in Bureau blue and white who rests his hand on his own chest and says “Xiao Xingchen” and not another word.
The Bureau is–weird.  They’ve got a giant jellyfish and a store run by–something Wei Wuxian Does Not Trust and a dorm.  Wei Wuxian laughs and kicks Jiang Cheng cheerfully in the ankle and says “Just like college, huh?” and Jiang Cheng gives him a dark look and snaps “I never went to college.”
“Yeah,” Wei Wuxian says, blinking.  “Me neither.”
Whatever.  They go on a train adventure and there’s a kid, a kid who blinks and stares at Wei Wuxian like he’s seen a goddamn ghost and immediately walks up to introduce himself as Lan Sizhui, boy detective.
Wei Wuxian fucking loves this kid.  He’s not sure why this wide-eyed fifteen-year-old latched onto him so hard, but he’s smart, funny, loyal, and extremely easy to pick on.  13/10 child rating, in Wei Wuxian’s book.
(Sizhui, for his part, more or less kicks down the door to his father’s offices in the Astral Plane the second the Reclaimers are gone and shouts “I HAVE A LEAD ON WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WORLD.”)
(His father, Lan Wangji, the Grim Reaper, is very interested to hear all about it–especially when his son casually name-drops three of the biggest bounties that the Raven King, his adoptive elder brother, has ever sent him after, with the exception of that absolutely insufferably sweet-tempered lich Wen Ning.)
THREE
So…the Crystal Kingdom.
Is it Wei Wuxian’s finest hour, shouting obscure tentacle-related threats at the second crystal construct they’ve seen in the past twenty minutes?  No, probably not.  But it’s been a stressful day, they’re already down one Regulator and Song Lan is fuck-knows-where with Mianmian and, again, this is the second menacing crystal construct they’ve seen in twenty minutes.  Or maybe it’s the same one?
Whatever, doesn’t matter.  They’re here to hunt down Meng Yao, a scientist who’s been dicking around with some seriously ill-advised necromancy and also the Philosopher’s Stone, and a crystal construct or two isn’t going to stop them.
Wei Wuxian actually physically cannot help himself, though, when the Reapers appear in the mirror, a matched set of beautiful men, and he grins broadly at the one glaring at him most viciously.  They get let go on a technicality, along with a conduit still containing Meng Shi’s memory of a vision beyond the cosmos, and Meng Yao leaves with his life and not much more.
Later, Lan Wangji is absolutely betrayed by the realization that his brother willfully set him up to be the primary go-between for the completely breathtaking deeply irritating wizard-by-way-of-death-criminal.  And that’s before the whole lich revelation.  (He does get a kiss, though, after he watches his brother pulled under by the Hunger.  That’s nice.  He hopes Wei Wuxian will mitigate the death crimes now that they’re dating.)
FOUR
The seven Relics are as follows:
The Zidian Gauntlet, which can generate a lightning blast so powerful that it can obliterate an entire city.  (Jiang Cheng–he watched the others try to lay in protections, try to make their Relics harmless, and he knew it wouldn’t work.  All the Gauntlet does is damage.  It can melt a city down to black glass, but it can’t be twisted, it can’t be made into any more of a nightmare than it already is.  He’s a fighter.  He knows all about damage, knew all about what he was making.  That doesn’t mean it didn’t kill him by inches to watch it leave a path of destruction–so much that his beloved jiejie tried to seal it away.)
The Oculus, which can make any construct real.  (Xiao Xingchen–Nie Huaisang didn’t take everything.  He doesn’t remember the mission, or his own past.  Something strange got confused in the process, and he lost most of his speech.  But he remembers how to fight, handles his sword as cleanly and effectively as ever, and he remembers that he doesn’t think much of Nie Huaisang’s combat skills.  Or maybe it’s just really obvious that Nie Huaisang isn’t much of a fighter.  Regardless, Xiao Xingchen insisted on accompanying him, before–before.  Then they went into the Felicity Wilds, and…Xue Yang is honestly delighted.  He’s never managed to ruin someone so badly on the way into Wonderland before.  It’s just a shame that Nie Huaisang sent Xiao Xingchen away before they reached the doors.)
The Healer’s Sash, which can manipulate natural forces like the wind, the tides, and tectonic plates just as easily as it can manipulate a heartbeat or a pair of lungs.  (Wen Qing–she prays to Pelor, the Dawnfather, the healer and Lord of Light, but she’s long since lost her faith in him as anything but a contracted boss.  It’s a shock to everyone including her when she’s granted a right arm made of glass and magic after losing it.  She was so determined to make a Relic that could be used for good, but–well.  She supposes she should have known better.)
The Philosopher’s Stone, which can more or less transform anything into anything.  (Jiang Yanli–she’s a Transmutation wizard, she’s been feeding the crew of the Starblaster for a hundred years on whatever she can pull together.  If the right person found the Stone, it would have ended world hunger.  The wrong person found the stone.  Jiang Yanli tried her damnedest to hunt it down, but she found the Gauntlet first, and, well–she already became a lich to stop one younger brother from doing it.  It’s not a struggle to decide that she’s going to take responsibility for saving Jiang Cheng from his own guilt.  Then things go horribly wrong, and she spends the next twelve years in an umbrella.)
The Temporal Chalice, which offers complete control over time.  (Wen Ning–he was a strict scholar until his sister was contacted about the IPRE’s creation, but he always did want to travel, and his theories about bonds were too good for Xiao Xingchen to pass up having on his crew.  Everything he’s done since they lost their home system has been about trying not to leave his family, about trying for second chances, he became a lich for them, he’s done everything to stay with them, of course his Relic is a second chance generator.)
The Animus Flute, which offers control over the spirits of the dead and, in the hands of a sufficiently competent expert, the living.  (Wei Wuxian–he’s watched his brother, his sister, his friends, die so many times.  He’s terrified of immortality, but he’s most terrified of being alone.  He meant to make something that could keep the dead present, so that they would never have to fear being left behind again.  Watching it rip Jiang Cheng’s soul clean out of his body in Xue Yang’s hands is the worst thing Wei Wuxian can remember, even after everything is over.)
The Bulwark, which Nie Huaisang never did explain to anyone, but took the shape of a hand-painted fan.  (Nie Huaisang lost the only person who mattered to him when the Hunger ate their home, and then as he slowly, painstakingly, rebuilt something like a family, he had to watch them suffer and die for a hundred years.  And then he watched them win, and grieve like dying all over again for the winning.  He’s sorry they suffered for his actions.  He’s not sorry for what he did.)
FIVE
Wen Zhuliu didn’t mean to make his whole plane give up.  But he had spent his whole life being used, and it all just seemed so pointless.  It all just seemed so pointless.  There was always someone stronger, always something bigger, always a rule he couldn’t break, always something, and he started talking, started telling people as much, and--
Wen Qing is about the farthest thing in the fucking world from a peacemaker by nature, if you ask her, but she’s a healer first, last, and most of all.  And, she thinks as she watches the sun sink with a very tired man crumbling away at her side, she might be the only person in the worlds who ever noticed that Wen Zhuliu needed a healer.
(They aren’t from the same plane, but--some of the others have found distant family, on their new home.  It’s an unanswerable question, if they might have been family, a few dimensions removed.  Wen Ning still thinks about it.)

Okay I can’t believe I’m going there, but, Lan Wangji’s magical healing cock and also mpreg AU:
Okay. So. Instead of Jin Zixuan being a dick to his crush, he genuinly never had a crush on her at all, and in fact, it never came to light until the Sunshit Campaign started, but JZX had a crush on Jiang Cheng all along. Jiang Cheng, who, reluctantly, returns his affections. Wei Wuxian is disgusted. His brother has terrible taste in men wtf.
So. Things went differently this time. What’s the change here? Meng Yao never left Nie Mingjue’s side. Of course, he did the spying thing, but he never betrayed him (this could be a part of my idea where NMJ and MY plan to actually have him be a spy and send him off after a planned execution of a soldier that NMJ decided needed a death sentence more than banishment, or, an AU where MY presented the idea to Wen Rouhan that his coming to WRH’s side was the betrayel itself). Now how does this change things? Because I honestly and truly think that if MY didn’t go to Jin Guangshan’s side afterwards, JGS wouldn’t have had the sway to execute anyone else in the Wen Family, or do anything horrible like that.
TBH he tries to wipe out the rest of the Wens, but it goes so badly and this time MY isn’t on his side (lol you know JGS would have tried tho, imagine how humiliating it would have been to be publicly denied by your own bastard son at the banquet after wow) and so JGS ends up removed from power entirely and JZX gets made sect leader instead.
This means, that since JZX is about to marry JC, they’re going to have to move to LanlingJin instead of both of them arguing over if they’d move to Lotus Pier or not. Cause they would argue over that. This means that Jiang Cheng is going to be the next Young Master Jin and Jiang Yanli is now officially the Jiang Sect Leader. Nice.
So. We’re rid of JGS and everyone’s happy and MY probably isn’t gonna kill anyone cause now he can marry NMJ in peace and not have to deal with anyone else, where does LWJ’s magic healing dick come in? Hold on I’m getting to it. Impatient.
So. The Wens. Of course, before JGS was removed from power, Wei Wuxian was actually running around saving Wen survivors and gathering them in the Burial Mounds, so he actually has to be coaxed into leaving by his siblings and LWJ and even JZX and NMJ (who thinks this is rather like that one time he had to coax Nie Huaisang out from under his bed when he became convinced NMJ’s cat was a demon because it wouldn’t stop attacking his songbird and he couldn’t come out cause she was in the room and she would steal his soul but she’s just sitting on the windowsill and meowing at them and NMJ is just silently planning to feed her more and keep her away from the atrium and tbh plz NHS you’re 16 years old you’re too old for this plz stop crying) and it’s great. It’s just great.
Anyways. WWX is paranoid af. Like so fucking paranoid. Cause they have been attacked. He’s got 12 year old girls talking about what the adult men in the Jin sect did to them. He’s got a traumatized toddler on his hip that screams when he sees Jin robes. He’s got children with branded scarring on their faces and wounds you can’t even imagine to come from anything but torture. He’s paranoid. He’s trying to keep the kiddos safe. They’re healers, and he’s given them the tools to heal, but they’re scared, and he’s paranoid without his Golden Core, and he’s scared, and he’s not putting down the toddler plz stop asking, he’s keeping this one, shut up.
So. What can he do but make a few demands? The Lan sect may have strict rules, but they would never attack innocent civilians, and they have rules about killing even animals in Gusu. He asks them to send all the Lan guards they can to escort them to GusuLan. He doesn’t think they’d hurt them in YunmengJiang either, but he can’t risk it. He was there when Lotus Pier burned. Cloud Recesses didn’t lose nearly as many people, and he’s still too traumatized to spend much time in LP rn.
So they go to Cloud Recesses. This actually, also gives the other sects a lot of time to get some glimpses at everyone that came from the Burial Mounds.
Not a single one of them was a cultivator.
This is a little different than canon. WWX can’t handle the loss of his golden core in this one. Not to say that he shouldn’t have done it, but that the resentful energy is dragging him down to the point where all he can feel is paranoia and fear. He’s almost completely unresponsive at this point. He follows after LWJ when told to, and he holds little A-Yuan in his arms, but he doesn’t pay much attention to anyone.
Wen Qing tells them of the loss of his core, but not how it happened. Lan Qiren doesn’t much like WWX still, but he accepts that a cornered animal will bite, and WWX lost his main weapon right before a major war. Of course he would do all he could to keep himself safe.
Jiang Yanli offers for the Wen Survivors to be integrated into YunmengJiang, since they lost so many people. It could help a lot. They accept, since she’s offering them protection and help.
Of course, Wen Qing and Jiang Yanli used to Spend A Lot Of Time Together in Cloud Recesses, so love is blooming there between the two sect leaders, and by the end of a year, they’re getting married themselves.
WWX doesn’t go back to LP with them. He couldn’t do it. A-Yuan and Granny and Wen Ning stay with him in Cloud Recesses. Granny talks with Wen Qing regularly, and A-Yuan is attached to Lan Wangji enough that Lan Xichen starts mentioning that he could attend classes there when he’s old enough. LXC is a WangXian shipper and is trying to get his brother to adopt the child. Y’all know he would. WWX spends his time arguing (loudly, but in a room with magical wards for sound so they don’t get in trouble) with a Lan mind healer that talks through his bullshit with him, sleeping the day away in one of the rooms of the Jingshi (because LWJ made him move in right away and WWX couldn’t even argue cause A-Yuan loves him too and he can ask LWJ to play Their Song whenever he wants to hear it) and following after A-Yuan as he enchants (and terrifies) all the rabbits in the field. Also getting yelled at (softly) by LQR for breaking rules. LQR and LWJ have been making it their personal mission to find a way to either purify the resentful energy so WWX can go back to his normal cheerful self that doesn’t jump or hide when startled, or to regain a Golden core so the yin and yang energies can balance each other and keep him stable.
Of course, JYL sends him a message that she’s getting married, and WWX pulls himself out of the fog enough that he can ask them to go to the wedding (he’s being polite, he’s going no matter what they say lol,) and LWJ accompanies him to the wedding. His siblings are so happy to see him there.
Anyways. Things get rocky when WWX hears them talking about kids.
Jiang Yanli will carry Jin Zixuan’s children, and they’ll keep the Jin name. They’ll know that all four of them are their parents, but it’s a way to pass on the name.
Wen Qing will carry Jiang Cheng’s children, and they’ll carry the Jiang name. This also helps to keep track of what kids are heir to what sect.
Of course, Wei Wuxian, the master of ‘I know The Most Obscure Bullshit Ever’, asks why they don’t just have their spouses children. There are spells and potions for that.
Well. No one else in the room knew that but him apparently. Well, they’re still going to go with their idea for the first few kids, and then they’ll decide if other means of pregnancy options are viable.
Anyways. Guess who else didn’t know it was possible for men to get pregnant? You guessed it. Lan Wangji. Who was also in the room at the time.
So. Wedding is lovely. They all have an amazing time. WWX is able to pull himself out of bed every day. He was even able to work on some cultivation items that LQR begrudgingly admits are amazing items and very useful to cultivation.
They go back to Cloud Recesses, and Lan Wangji combs through his and his uncle’s notes till he finds a viable solution to a return of a Golden core that they had originally scrapped because WWX wasn’t a girl.
To return a Golden core to a body by means of very careful pregnancy. Of course, such a thing would be considered stealing under normal circumstances, and most mothers would rather die than harm their child in the womb in a way that could kill them. But this was a method made to keep both parent and child from harm. A way to build the slightest lump of core in the parent, enough to stick and allow a base to build off of later.
Of course, without consulting Uncle (because the man would be horrified at the idea, and LWJ would rather be rejected by the man himself thanks very much) he takes the proposal to the man in question.
WWXA has to think about this one for a long time. He thinks about it while helping Wen Ning with zombie stuff so he can maintain a stable body. He thinks about it while writing letters to his siblings. He thinks a LOT about it while tucking their two year old into bed and reading him a story with the funny voices. He thinks about it when he spends a night in the cold springs with LWJ one night, close enough to touch the man, because without a Golden core, the water is too cold for him to survive in on his own.
He asks why LWJ would besmirch his honor like that. Having a child out of wedlock, his uncle would throw a fit. His name would be in tatters.
LWJ blinks, once, and twice. He quietly tells him the offer could involve marriage if WWX thinks it’s of import.
So. They get married. So they can have a child. Another child. Just. Yeah. Let’s get married so we can mate like rabbits.
They’re in love. Of course they are. But they’re also shy idiots. LWJ is a sex fiend like usual, and WWX quickly gets addicted to it, but they’re both too shy to say anything sappy yet. Well. No. Scratch that. LWJ is fully willing to admit his love to the world. But he’s a very quiet person. So he mostly just tells WWX how much he would do anything for him, and even eats his horrible poison cooking. Not even A-Yuan will touch that shit.
A-Yuan is so excited to be a big brother. His favorite place to lay is curled around WWX’s big belly and giving it kisses while A-Die scratches his hair and reads him stories.
A-Yuan finally gets his baby and Wei Wuxian gets the stability that a Golden core provides so he can continue using resentful energy to dodge the many many scrolls Shifu Qiren will throw at him over the years to come. LQR swears that if that man hadn’t given his nephew happiness and also many great nephews-
Anyways. The Lotus Flowers are all gay and all happy send tweet.

Scrapbook 2021 | Part II
For anyone that’s new to this, this is how I keep track of all of the things I enjoy and/or create throughout the year. I have literally been doing this since I had a livejournal. I think the first one was 2011? Maybe? In which case, woohoo, ten years of scrapbooking!
It’s a nice little snippet of my life and helps to organize my brain.
A reminder:
Normal font - Indifferent/Neutral Italicized font - Enjoyed bold font - Loved with an asterisk* - All time favorite (bracketed titles) - Re-watches/Re-reads strikethough - Disliked
Goals are: read 80 books (as of today, i am at 31 books, which sounds not great but goodreads assures me that it’s only 1 book behind schedule), finish five video games (at two at the moment... mostly because I keep dragging my feet on actually finishing P5R), write more than 20 fics (at... 6) or something larger than 20k (negative), and write either an original short story or start a novel (i have started plotting for the novel? does that count?)

He strips eagerly, grinning up at Zhou Zishu as if this is another joke between them. See? Wen Kexing’s body seems to say, I have no secrets from you.
drop by brawlite | The Untamed | Song Lan/Xue Yang | 4k |  Xue Yang has had this dream before.
Splenda by Tierfal | FMA | Ed/Roy | 19k | WIP | A sugar daddy AU that barely even qualifies as a sugar daddy AU, because these two can't do anything right.

Contention by hollybennett123 | Word of Honor | Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu/Ye Baiyi | 3k |  The Zhou Zishu of ten minutes ago, who first agreed to the whole thing — the evening’s conversation and general bickering over drinks taking an unexpectedly filthy turn — had been thinking only about the imminent pounding on offer and not, well, everything else that might come with it.
Necrocafé by etothey | Locked Tomb Trilogy | Gideon/Harrow | 2k | Harrowhark Nonagesimus isn't sure which confounds her more: the new boxes of bones she is to animate, or the hot redheaded courier who brings the boxes.

one too many by sarcasticfishes | Watcher | Ryan/Shane | 1k | “Stay here,” Ryan says, just casual enough, “I’ll drive you home tomorrow.”
Tencent and Chill by quoth_the_ravenclaw | The Untamed | Nie Huaisang/Nie Mingjue | 2k | “Da-ge,” Huaisang whines, all for show, as much a performance as the actors on screen. He wiggles his toes. “My feet are so sore, you worked me too hard.”
The House at the End of the World by Hopetohell | Loki | Loki/Mobius/Sylvie | 1k | What will they do, now that they can do anything?
moderate the middle by ElisAttack | Loki | Loki/Mobius/Sylvie | 9k | People only smiled with their eyes when it was real. Unless they were a Loki. No matter the differences between the variants, their tricky grins were a constant as much as they were indiscernible.
Lost and Sound by snack_size | Loki | Loki/Thor/Sylvie | 5k | “Sylvie, did you help my brother defeat the Time Police?”
push the button (and let me know) by dinosuns | Loki | Loki/Mobius | 5k | “How about this?” hands folded on the table, he watches Loki intently. “If you tell me why, I’ll answer.”
We're (not) all villains here by sir_not_appearing_in_this_archive | Loki | Loki/Mobius/Sylvie | 19k | WIP | Alone and friendless (once again), Loki has to find a way to set things right, or at least right enough he can comfortably sneak off into the sunset, which starts with one thing: saving Mobius's lost memories.
what remains by dinosuns | Loki | Loki/Mobius | “You’re no analyst.” Mobius sounds stunned. They are not aligned, they are not in tandem. But there are wistful glimmers of what is now agonisingly out of reach.
worth a shot by thereyoflight | Loki | Loki/Sylvie | 2k | When Loki and Sylvie are moments away from being cornered on the train in Lamentis, they resort to desperate measures.
Bug Problems by xorabbit | Marvel | Grandmaster/Loki | 7k |  Loki ends up on Sakaar, of course, with just that many more schemes to scheme. However, the Grandmaster is not altogether too terrible--a bit of fine luck, for once--and perhaps it's all right to have a better-natured fling while one works out what's next.
our way, no takebacks by dinosuns | Loki | Loki/Mobius | 20k | "Nice speech," Sylvie drawls, but the sarcasm doesn't land.
August

new terms by dinosuns | Loki | President Loki/Mobius | 21k |For the first time in his life, Loki triumphs. How fitting then, for the end to swiftly barge in unannounced.
Icarus by Waako | Loki | Loki/Mobius | 5k | When Mobius got pruned, he expected two different outcomes. Either eternal peace or eternal emptiness. He certainly didn’t expect a grey sky, ruins of old buildings looming over him, and a Loki variant watching him like he was a piece of fresh meat.
Stress Relief by spqr | Loki | Loki/Mobius | 3.5k |  “Let me read you something,” Loki says. He rifles through the pages, clears his throat, and Mobius puts a hand over his eyes because he knows what’s coming before Loki even reads the first word—“Pēdīcābō ego vōs et irrumābō—“
just like the weather by sarcasticfishes | BFU | Shane/Ryan/Sara | 6k | “Y’know,” Ryan shrugs. “Friends have kids together sometimes. Like if a same-sex couple has a friend surrogate for them. Or sometimes people just co-parent.”
Woodash and iron and leather by iffervescent | The Witcher | 9k | Jaskier is the only person Geralt's ever been around who doesn't smell of fear
Food of Love by tanktrilby | The Witcher | Geralt/Jaskier | 22k | I brought a dead princess back to life through the power of song is the kind of thing that would have got an eyebrow raise even from the stone-faced Geralt of Rivia, so it's a good thing he and Geralt will probably never see each other again.
If The Morning Light Sets In by nagia | Castlevania | Sypha/Trevor/Alucard | 45k | Save the Belmonts, save the world.
halfway by ivelostmyspectacles | Castlevania | Sypha/Alucard/Trevor | 12k | Vampire attacks are happening again. Unprovoked, strange, humans and vampires dying alike. A disease. Alucard assures them that he isn't susceptible.
lonely lonely heart by spqr | Loki | Loki/Mobius | 7k |  Mobius looks down at the paperwork, gets a sort of flustered farmboy look on his face, looks back up at Loki and says, “You offered to give a cop fellatio in the middle of Central Park.”

An AU where the Wens aren’t so war-happy and instead are just an annoyance that the cultivation world has to put up with.
So, no war imminent, no Yin iron.
In the little story I wrote, the Wens are pushing for a political marriage between the Wen and Nie Sects. WWX and NHS are bros.
Wei Wuxian paused in his drawing when he heard a loud crash. It didn’t sound close but was definitely still in the Unclean Realm. And it didn’t sound like a training mishap. Wei Wuxian looked to Nie Huaisang to ask if he knew, and saw the other boy hurriedly getting dressed.
“It didn’t sound that close.” Wei Wuxian says, mistaking Nie Huaisang’s rush as worry someone might check up on them. Which Wei Wuxian would understand more if they were in Lotus Pier. Nie Zonghui once walked in on them and the man just sighed and walked out. But when one of Wei Wuxian’s Shixiong walked in they made a huge fuss and both Mie Huaisang and Wei Wuxian got lectured on propriety.
Apparently nude drawings of your friend are not considered proper. Who knew?
“No, it was from Da Ge’s office.” Ohkay? So why is Nie Huaisang getting dressed? Wei Wuxian doesn’t ask, more confused as Nie Huaisang shoves him gently and sits down next to him. He places opens a book and carefully puts it on the nude drawing, and then starts explaining Saber forms to Wei Wuxian.
Which is even more confusing, but Wei Wuxian goes along with it, carefully turning the pages of the book and asking questions about the forms that interested him. Considering he wielded a sword, these were mostly useless to him, however, it was still interesting. A few minutes pass before Nie Huaisang’s door is flung open and in walks Chifeng-zun. He doesn’t even look at them, immediately flopping face first onto Nie Huaisang’s bed. Wei Wuxian looks to Nie Huaisang, who does not seem surprised at all by this developement.
“What’s wrong Da Ge?” Nie Huaisang asks.
Chifeng-zun groans and doesn’t move for a minute before he slowly sits upright. And speaks through gritted teeth, “Wen Ruohan proposed a marriage treaty.”
“Oh?” Nie Huaisang prompts, completely ignoring how pissed off Chifeng-zun looks. Wei Wuxian is pretty sure he should be elsewhere. Not here. This felt like a private conversation.
“He wants to marry in one of his sons.” Chifeng-zun adds, not unclenching his jaw.
“Wen Chao. Wen Xu is his heir so he can’t be married outside of Qishan.” Wei Wuxian says before he can stop himself. Neither Nie Huaisang nor Chifeng-zun tell him to shut up or leave, so he feels a bit safer, and responds to Nie Huaisang’s surprised look. “What? I listen. Also, ew. Say no.” That gets him a whack from Nie Huaisang’s fan. “You hate him as much as me. Besides, you’re Sect Heir, just because Qinghe Nie puts righteousness and skill above bloodline doesn’t mean the elders would be happy if the Nie family bloodline ended with you. Perfect excuse.” Wei Wuxian defends.
Chifeng-zun scoffs, “It would be, if the marriage proposal had been to Nie Huaisang.”
“It wasn’t?” Nie Huaisang and Wei Wuxian ask at the same time, Nie Huaisang’s was filled with dread while Wei Wuxian’s was filled with confusion.
“Ew.” Wei Wuxian says after a moment, realizing what that meant. “Don’t marry Wen Chao, he’s gross.”
“Wei-Xiong.” Nie Huaisang whines.
 “He is.”
Chifeng-zun snorts, “I don’t disagree. But that’s not a good enough reason to refuse him.”
“And you don’t have any others?” The look Chifeng-zun gives to Wei Wuxian is both terrifying and telling that he is literally at the end of his rope. And has no more excuses for Wen Ruohan. “Well, that sucks.”
Chifeng-zun huffs and goes back to laying down on Nie Huaisang’s bed.
Nie Huaisang opens his fan and starts fanning himself, thinking with a pout. “Wei-xiong, do you have any ideas?” Nie Huaisang asks, clearly at a loss himself.
Wei Wuxian shrugs, “Not really. You’re Chifeng-zun’s heir so the normal excuse of needing a child-bearing marriage is out. He hasn’t expressed any interest in anyone, and he’s made no move to be married. A political marriage to strengthen frayed ties between sects isn’t that abnormal. And it would reflect badly on QingheNie to outright refuse a marriage contract from His Excellency without a solid reason why.” Wei Wuxian shrugs again, “This is why I’m glad I’m just a servant. No political mumbo jumbo and arranged marriages. I just have to keep from insulting people and making the Jiang Sect look bad.”
“You fail at that a lot.” Nie Huaisang points out.
Wei Wuxian shoves him in response. “Shut up. The only way to get out of this is marriage to someone other than Wen Chao. And to not make it look like a personal slight against His Excellency, it’d have to appear to have already been in the works.”
“Like, backdate the paperwork?” Nie Huaisang asks, clearly thinking.
Wei Wuxian shakes his head, “No, a marriage contract isn’t necessary. Just, I don’t know, it’d have to be someone Chifeng-zun either talks to, has been talking to recently or someone staying in the Unclean Realm with no clear reason. An excuse can be made that Chifeng-zun was getting to know his potential betrothed before asking for their hand in marriage.”
Nie Huaisang closes his fan and taps it against his chin for a few seconds before standing up, dragging Wei Wuxian up with him and leaving his bedroom and Chifeng-zun. Wei Wuxian was curious as to what they were doing but when he tried to ask he was shushed. And then they started sneaking around and Wei Wuxian isn’t so stupid he’d start making noise now, so he quietly follows Nie Huaisang through the Unclean Realm.
When they enter Chifeng-zun’s office and Nie Huaisang goes to his desk, Wei Wuxian hisses, “What are you doing?”
“You said yourself, the only way out is for Da Ge to get married.”
“Yes. But who are you engaging him to? And shouldn’t you get his permission? What if he hates them?”
Nie Huaisang pauses in his writing to look up at Wei Wuxian with a confused expression. Did his brothers feelings not factor into Nie Huaisang’s plan? “You- I thought-” Nie Huaisang clears his throat, “Da Ge likes them fine.” Nie Huaisang settles on, looking somewhat confused but also like he does not want to deal with this. He finishes writing, forging Chifeng-zun signature and then moving it to the top of a pile, “Uh, don’t be alone with Da Ge.”
What? “...Wasn’t planning on it.” Wei Wuxian was here to spend time with Nie Huaisang and do nude drawings in peace without Jiang Cheng or a Shixiong interrupting them and causing a fuss. Not that they told anyone that. Officially he was on a night hunt nearby (true) and decided to stop by for a visit. Two weeks ago. He hasn’t gotten an angry letter from Jiang Cheng yet so he’s not required home anytime soon.
“Good.” Huiasang says, and drags Wei Wuxian out of Chifeng-zun’s office. “Zonghui!” The man walks over to Nie Huaisang, not even questioning why they just left Chifeng-zun’s office when the man was in Nie Huaisang’s room. “I have to go do something, keep an eye on Wei-xiong.” Nie Zonghui was clearly confused, but nods in agreement. Nie Huaisang flees immediately after.
“Uh, hi?” Wei Wuxian says, since he’s pretty sure they’ve never been introduced. And the last time Wei Wuxian saw the man Wei Wuxian was mostly naked. So, he wasn’t sure if that would be brought up or...
Nie Zonghui salutes, “Wei-Gongzi,” Wei Wuxian salutes Nie Zonghui back,”did you have any plans?”
 “No. Did you?”
“I was intending to head to the training grounds.” Nie Zonghui says calmly, in a way that added ‘but you take priority’ silently. Wei Wuxian had heard the tone dozens of time back at Lotus Pier, had used it himself with guests.
“Lead the way.” Wei Wuxian says with a shrug, following after the older man. He still doesn’t understand why Nie Huaisang abandoned him, or what was going on, but he might as well get to know Nie Zonghui. “So, what do you like to do for fun?”

Water ghouls AU!
[Part 0.5: Meeting Wei Ying]
(part 1) (part 2) (part 3)
Madam Yu and Madam Jin were in Yiling for a night hunt, where they encounter kid!WWX being chased by a group of dogs. Seeing the kid cornered and trying to protect his very small bun... Both of them couldn’t help but think of their own children in such a position and went to chase the dogs away.
Madam Jin actually brought WWX two other buns.
WWX of course was very grateful towards the two very kind [AN: I think it’s the first time I’m using Madam Yu and kind in the same sentence, pff] aunties... And when he saw that they carried swords his eyes went very wide, before hastily rummaging through the pockets of his dirty clothes. He pulled out a talisman and gave it to Madam Yu, beaming, “Here auntie, a lucky charm for you!”
Both Madam Yu and Madam Jin looked intrigued by the ‘lucky charm’ that was actually a talisman. But they were unfamiliar with the sigils on it, and considering the slightly childish handwriting, both of them guessed that it might have been the kid’s work. It was more than probable that the kid’s parents were cultivators and he saw them writing talismans and wanted to copy them... Of course, to his small mind the sigils were probably no different from gibberish. And so he thought that he had made a proper “lucky charm” and decided to gave it the kind aunties as thanks.
Even Madam Yu had to admit that the kid was cute and endearing. So she took the talisman, thanks him and shoo him away.   [Because she could be kind from time to time, but not that kind and besides they still have a ferocious beast to hunt down.] She slid the talisman in her sleeves and will probably throw it away later when the kid wasn’t watching.
And well two hours later and the street rat and his talisman were probably the last thing on her mind. ‘Cause the lone ferocious beast that they were supposed to kill turned out to be a pack of six ferocious beasts.
At some point during the quite challenging fight, Madam Yu got momentarily distracted by something and it allowed one of the beast to rush through her defense. Considering how close it was and the direction of its jump, she barely had the time to raise one arm to protect her face. But before it could actually chunk at her arm it suddenly stopped as if it had slammed into an invisible wall. The protective barrier of course collapse barely a few seconds after because the spiritual energy sustaining it was quite low but it gave Madam Yu enough time to take a few step back and counterattack.
Soon enough after that all the beasts were dealt with and they could finally relaxed. This was when Madam Yu took out the ‘lucky charm’ from her sleeve. It just happened that the arm she had raised to instinctively protect herself had been the one with the talisman within the sleeve. And sure enough, the talisman was still warm and the sigils were slightly bright in some parts and burnt in others. Indicating that it had been activated not so long ago.
Madam Yu and Madam Jin looked at each other with wide eyes. Turned out what they thought were a child drawing was actually a proper protective talisman!
So of course they had to go and track WWX down again, because a kid who could write talisman that could be activated and properly worked (even if it was for merely a few seconds) was nothing short of a genius. It would be a tremendous waste not to nurture such potential.
They didn’t have any difficulty in finding the kid again, he was actually sleeping in one of the corner of the street where they had met earlier near a small makeshift tent made of dirty quilts.
The kid woke as they came closer and beamed at them, “Aunties, are you finished night hunting? Did the lucky charm help?” Madam Yu: It did. Did you write it yourself? The kid nodded enthusiastically. Madam Yu: Do you want to learn more? WWX: Can I? Madam Yu: I belong to the Yunmeng Jiang Sect. It is one of the Great Sect of the cultivation world. If you come home with me, I’ll take you in as a disciple and teach you. I won’t be kind though, so be prepared. WWX: I’ll come!! I’ll come! Please teach me!     Madam Yu: Very well, then come along. WWX rushed into the makeshift tent to take out his meager belongings (one fourth of a cinnabar, a very decrepit brush and the two buns that Madam Jin brought him earlier) and happily followed the other two. [And that’s how you catch a wild Wei Ying, *clap clap* (and she didn’t even need to bait him with watermelon)]
Because it was quite late at night and because the kid was super dirty, they decided to stay at a nearby inn, where the kid was forced to take a bath and changed clothes (that Madam Jin brought him... it was the clothes of the inn’s owner’s son and weren’t of high quality but it was definitely better than the clothes that WWX had been wearing).
After the kid looked more presentable and way cleaner, they took the opportunity to ask him about his talismans.
Turns out they were right. His parents had been cultivators  - probably rogue cultivators - and it was his mother who taught A-Ying this protective talisman. It was apparently his “job” to help them make it. Because he was “back-up” and it was a “very important job”... And she had made him make a dozens of them until he got it right and could actually activate them.
Thinking about it, the mother’s aim had probably been to provide him with a tool to protect himself just in case.
By the time, he finished talking about it, the kid was starting to nod off so Madam Yu send him to bed. But just when she did so, she suddenly realized that she didn’t actually know his full name. “A-Ying, what is your name?” WWX *sleepily*: A-Ying’s name is Wei Ying, courtesy name Wuxian. Madam Yu, suddenly filled with dread: Wei? Are your parents Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren? [By the way, at that time, news of the WWX’s parents death had not reach Yunmeng yet, which is why she didn’t make the connection immediately when she heard WWX calling himself A-Ying] WWX: Yes! Auntie, do you know them? Are you friend with them? Madam Yu: We are not friend. But I do know them. WWX: Oh...
About eight months ago, WWX’s parents had gone to a night hunt in Yiling. And because they thought that this case might be more dangerous than usual, they didn’t take him with them for the actual hunt and made him wait for them back in the street of Yiling [in the exact corner where his makeshift tent is]. They never came back.
Madam Yu, once WWX fell asleep, very bitterly: So she’s dead... And I’m actually taking her kid in. What kind of fate is this? Is she mocking me beyond the grave?
Madam Yu could actually picture with great clarity what was going to happen as soon as WWX will arrive at Lotus Pier. JFM will welcome him with open arms. A son of a servant will be raised way above his station, not only as a mere disciple of the sect but like a son of the Yunmeng Jiang Clan. And A-Cheng will probably cease to exist in the eyes of JFM as soon as the son of Cangse Sanren would arrive.
Madam Jin seeing Madam Yu very sour face, tried to reason with her, “You’re not going to leave back in the street, are you? Outside of the fact that he is Cangse Sanren’s son, he didn’t do anything wrong and has a lot of potential.” [Those words are so going to bite her in the ass a few years later when Meng Yao comes into play, haha] Madam Yu: I am not coming back on my words.
Besides she was pretty sure that even if she left him there, as soon as words of their death reached JFM’s ears, he’d go and search the whole word for Cangse Sanren’s son. He wouldn’t give up until he managed to find him and then they’d end up exactly in the same situation (actually it was probably even a worse situation, there was no way rumors wouldn’t fly around with Jiang-zongzhu looking for and adopting the son of the woman he was rumored to be in love with).... The only way to prevent this situation was to straightforwardly kill the kid right now. But Madam Yu had not reach such a low point that she would go and murder innocent young kids no matter how troublesome their parents were.
If she’s going to have to endure the presence of Cangse Sanren’s son either way, then so be it. If she’s going to have to get used to the idea that Cangse Sanren’s son will from now on be an adoptive son of her family, then so be it. But she will make sure that both sons will be treated accordingly, even if this is the last thing that she’ll ever do!
---------
Status Progress:
>> Wei Ying has been upgraded to adopted!
>> Madam Yu has been upgraded to on her way to become a good mother out of pure spite!
--------------
Author’s note: Right so remember when I said after part 3 that Meng Yao will appear next time? I lied. (Though he does make his entrance in part 4, you get this prequel/backstory first.)
So in canon (please correct me if I’m wrong) WWX’s parents died when he’s about six and he’s only found by JFM when he’s about eight or nine? That’s such a huge gap. And my personal hc to explain it is that actually JFM didn’t know they died for a long time.
I mean both of them were rogue cultivators. If there were no one around when they died how would it be possible for anyone to know that they died? My guess is that they actually send messages/letters to JFM once in a while (like every two or three years to let him know what they’re up to). Stuff like, “If after X times you didn’t get any news, then please consider us dead” or something. If they died in Yiling right after sending one of their letters, informing him of their location, then it would make sense that JFM would only notice that something is wrong a few years later with no new letters. Naturally he’ll go look for them and search at the last place they mentioned first and try to trace back what happened from there. Which is how he found WWX in the street of Yiling.
Now in this universe Madam Yu stumbles upon WWX by pure accident less than a year after his parents’ death, which means that he actually gets adopted younger than he was in canon. Which means that by the times the event of part 1 happens, he was already living with the Jiang for something like 4 years (which explains why he has so much more lee-way and is so much more comfortable within the family).
Next time: Part 4 - Meeting Meng Yao (for real this time haha)

Jin Sibling AU Part 2
Note: So I am incorporating the untamed and the novel a bit. I haven’t finished reading it yet so I’m sure this may get tweaked or I may leave it as is.
So Jin Jixuan failed to apologize to Yanli. Meng Yao is seriously wondering if he is allergic to apologies.
After the conference both are feeling better and have a slightly better semblance of a brother like relationship.
Meng Yao: It looks like your upset. This has nothing to do with Lady Jiang does it? o(* ̄▽ ̄*)ブ Remember if you can’t formally apologize, then say it simply. You can start by saying “I’m” then finish it with “sorry”.
Jin Jixuan:(* ̄︿ ̄) Shut up
Note: This may be a little more cavalier than I expected, but yeah, I like this interaction a little more.
Going back to Quighe and Lanling, both brothers thought everything was fine until it wasn’t.
Meng Yao didn’t think to be honest. Nie Mingjue thought he stabbed him because he insulted him due to his origins. He didn’t bother correcting him. Disrespecting Jixuan’s honor? What right did that man have? It is only because he saved his life and maybe even remembering Jixuan’s letter that Nie Mingjue doesn’t kill him. He’s banished from his sect.
Meng Yao works at the bookstore, still writing letters to Jixuan, until he comes to across Xichen. He has heard of Gusu burning and hides him until they had no choice but to go on the run together when it’s apparent that the Wens are looking for Xichen.
Jixuan wasn’t able to send letters to Meng Yao when he’s forced to take part in the Wen ‘classes’. He hopes that he won’t do anything foolish and that this farce would end soon.
Jixuan escapes with the other cultivators and relays what happened to his father. Afterwards he goes to his room. Let him have this time to rest and read the letter’s his brother Meng Yao sent. Afterwards he’ll write the letter apologizing (He’s been working on it!) from the abrupt loss of contact and ask him to please join him.
Several things happen. Lotus Pier burns down which send Jixuan in a worried state (Is Lady Yanli okay?) and let’s not forget that he lost contact with his older brother Meng Yao (What happened? Why has he sent no letter? The last one was from his employer saying that Meng Yao just up and left. And okay hearing him demean him and his mom is another reason. It’s already decided that they would go to war and there’s no one more clever and dare he voice it, reliable that he wants next to him.
Back with Meng Yao and Xichen, they are constantly on the run, but they outwit their pursuers. One thing is certain, Lan Xichen is forbidden from washing clothes... EVER!!!!
Still, there is a moment of happiness. Including when Meng Yao goes ahead and grabs some apples from the tree.
Meng Yao climbs the tree. Was he scared? A little. He remembers how he climbed the tree’s with Jixuan during the conference to hide from other’s. Jixuan hated it, but  it was the best way to talk. After all, he wasn’t acknowledged by Jin Guangshan and for Jixuan to talk to him? They already heard the rumors and cruel remarks. No need to get him in trouble.
However, he wasn’t climbing to talk to his estranged brother. He was climbing because Xichen was hungry and remarked that the apples looked delicious. He tried to talk him out of it, but Meng Yao wanted to repay his kindness. To Xichen he saw him as an equal, not the son of a prostitute.
“Meng Yao! Meng Yao! Please get down. There’s no need to get those apples! Please, I don’t want you to get hurt.” Meng Yao could see Xichen is worried as he walked back and forth. He wouldn’t be deterred from  it.
“No worries, I’ve got them!” Replied Meng Yao, and he did. Already he had picked three delicious looking red apples. Just plump and juicy, ready to eat. He was on his way to pick the last one when he missed a branch. He didn’t scream, but he let out a sharp gasp. A quick moment of his life flashed by his eyes. His mother’s love. Buying him books. Giving him the pearl necklace, proof of his lineage. His father. How disinterested he was, how he ordered one of his men to kick him down the stairs. He didn’t care about him. Jixuan smiling. That’s right, he didn’t write to him yet. He left the bookstore before he could write one. Still, that left the possibility of the Wen’s intercepting the letter. He couldn’t take that chance even though he knew it would bother Jixuan. Hopefully, he wouldn’t worry too much.
It caught him off guard when he felt a pair of arms around, holding him tight. He already knew who it was with the white sleeves, but still he looked up, blushing from embarrassment. He sees the worried face of the Gusu Sect heir transform into a smile.
      “Thank goodness you’re okay!”
“Lan Xichen...” he does a quick calculative look. The tree he was climbing was tall, very tall. He looks down to see his next thought correct, unfortunately. Xichen saw fit to use his blade to fly to catch him. It was great, since he saved him from a nasty fall, however the threat was too real. They immediately land and walk away from the place until they felt safe. Meng Yao was upset at Xichen for endangering them more so for Xichen himself. It was him the Wen’s were looking for. That didn’t mean to say he wanted to be killed. He had goals, after all.
As they settle down they end up talking about their brothers and Meng Yao’s parentage. It’s a bit eye opening as he felt jealous about Jixuan having a better life than him. Xichen can’t really give him proper advice, after all his relationship with Wangji is obviously better than Meng Yao’s and Jin Jixuan. He makes it a point to not forget that Jixuan has built a connection with him and he should value it just as much as Jixuan does himself.
When it comes to his father’s approval, Xichen states to be himself, which is smart, steadfast and caring and for sure Jin Guangshan will see his worth. Wishful thinking, but ok.
Meng Yao is confused about his situation. They end up talking about lighter topics. (The apples were a good choice to fill their bellies though)
Months later Xichen has rallied the others, and they are now fighting against the Wens. Jixuan is still worried and that soup that appears at his tent just helps him out a little. The same situation happens between him and Yanli but now his negative attitude comes in from his worries about Meng Yao. After all how dare she take credit for someone’s hard work, she’s nothing like the kind lady or Meng Yao. Then the truth comes out.
He denies vehemently that he heard his brother’s teasing voice.
Instead of a half-hearted apology, he does the simple one his brother suggested. WWX is a little gremlin surprised about ‘The Peacocks’ apology but both Yanli and Wangji are quick to shut it down.
Yanli does accept the apology but can’t find it in her heart to bring him another bowl of her delicious soup. Jixuan finds himself comparing himself to his father’s way in disrespecting women.
Xichen still receives coded messages. And even though he doesn’t ask, Xichen sends updates about a certain Jin.
It is during one of his visits (in particular when he heard about a fight that could have broken out i.e. WWX and Jin Jixuan) he talks to Jixuan. It’s first military talk, but it becomes awkward when it’s apparent that Jixuan has a favor he wants to ask. He tells him he has an ulterior motive and admits that he is looking for his half-brother (this is the first time he acknowledges him to anyone else)
Xichen doesn’t lie, but he neither alludes to knowing where Meng Yao is. Meng Yao has a high position now and Wen Rouhan has sent him to certain locales. He can’t say for sure where he is, but he tells him he met his brother and without his help, he would’ve been caught by the Wens. They went their separate ways, him to rally other’s to fight in this war and Meng Yao to help however way he can.
Xichen can’t admit that Meng Yao is a spy, but he tells Jixuan to not give up hope to see him again. Jixuan is suspicious, but withholds his remarks and thanks him.
So I have about three and a half pages that I have written out about the story outline, but I am tired. I wrote about three and a half pages. That is not counting me adding more to it because there were some things I wanted to add originally but I didn’t until now since it is easier to edit this on a computer versus paper and pen.

Jin Sibling Au Part 4
I’m continuing the rest of the sibling au here! The original started on my main blog @a-nonny-mouse-0 but I’m moving it here.
After getting so much help from Guangyao, Jixuan notices that his older brother has a crush on Xichen. (He’s not entirely sure, but he catches the subtle longing gaze)
He tries to ask WWX and Jiang Cheng but there is some misunderstanding and now he walks away angrily.
Phoenix Mountain
Yanli and Jixuan are talking, but this time their conversation is much more positive. Jixuan gives her the formal apology which causes Yanli to cry in happiness. WWX catches her crying and proceeds beat up Jixuan only Yanli to stop him to explain what happened. WWX apologizes (relunctantly) but tells him to watch himself.
Jin Guangyao had no plans to help the Wens. He was content to wash away his guilt and get rid of them so his father can be praised from the other sects for getting rid of the last of the Wen dogs. He does not feel guilty. LIAR!
Same thing happens Jin Jixun offers the wine, WWX drinks Lan Wangji’s cup and then the demand on where the Wen’s are.
Jin Jixuan pulls his cousin aside and tells him it’s distasteful of him to offer wine to the Lan’s. Jixun tells him he has no shame and how dare he turn on the family. The rumors of him not wanting to hang out with his family (He only went to the JC and WWX to help A-Yao, they’re not friends!), asking his father to leave the Wen dogs (so what? he heard from Yanli how two of them helped her and her brothers. Is it wrong to talk in favor of them? They saved Yanli.) and to top it off, his friendship with bastard child Yao. How his mother must weep.
Jixuan does punches him. It felt fantastic defending his brother, it’s just too bad it had to be with his cousin Jixun. He gets pulled aside and instead of talking with his father, it’s with his mom, Madam Jin.
Not a cheerful conversation between both as his mom just abhors Guangyao but concedes to not trouble him since it is Guangyao’s help that has made Jixuan’s courting successful with Yanli.
Note: Madam Jin may not accept Jin Guangyao. She just reminds me of the Greek goddess Hera. She may never punish the women whom her husband has a relationship with, but she sure doesn’t want their kids in her house.
Jin Guangshan rallies the other clans, in private he has Jixun to get back at WWX and Jin Guangyao offers to help only to be ridiculed. He is called a failure and a disgrace and to leave his prescence at once. Guangyao leaves and keeps a calm demeanor as he finds a place to be alone until he bumps into Xichen.
They talk and Xichen consoles him when he finds out that he’s not getting father’s approval.
It was odd. Ever since Guangyao was taken in by the Jin Sect, things changed, but not for the better. It may be because he knew him as Meng Yao and spent time with him. He could tell what was happening, maybe his brother could, but he was trying to court Lady Yanli, so he may not be aware yet.           Didn’t matter now. He was here trying to console him, but he didn’t want to be touched. He curled into himself, sitting in a fetal position hiding his face. Like he wanted to shut the world.          Once again he found himself at a loss. It was his advice that led him to following his father's order’s only to face ridicule, and all he could do was sit there and wait. Leaving wasn’t an option and he couldn’t do it. Frustrated with his in ability to help Guangyao, Xichen pulls out Liebing and plays the Song of Clarity. After a while the sniffle’s diminish and Guangyao just stares at him as he plays. When he’s finished, he turns to look at him.          “Would you like for me to continue?” Guangyao shakes his head.          “It’s not necessary.” He gets up. “Sorry for my-” Xichen shakes his head.          “Please, don’t apologize. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to help much.” This time it was Guangyao, with a light smile, shaking his head.          “No, it was enough to have you here by my side,” replied Guangyao. Xichen’s heart felt tight with happiness. “Thank you venerated brother.”           Ah, the sweet cruelty Guangyao delievered as Xichen held back a sharp inhale. Donning his usual smile, he did the only thing he could.         “Of course,” he says as they both bid farewell for now, watching him as he left, gripping Liebling.
Mingjue is getting ready to leave when catches sight of his two venerated brothers. He’s surprised when he sees an upset Guangyao. (He’s seen Guangyao upset, but this one looks different from before. He’s hiding his face and hugging himself as if he want’s to out right dissapear.)
He also catches sight of how Xichen is looking at him and now wonders which one had an ulterior motive for making the vows.
Note: He still does not trust JGY, but that does not mean he won’t ignore that Xichen did something sneaky. Xichen, what was the reason for sharing cups and making those vows again?
Jixun and Jixuan do talk, and Jixuan realizes that Jixun may be jealous of Guanyao. He feels replaced and forgotten. Jixuan reasures him that he has not forgotten him and he had no intention of making him feel replaced, but he would definitely not apologize for punching him.
Finally Jixuan gifts Yanli the Lotus Pond and asks for her hand in marriage.
Guangyao meanwhile spreads rumors about WWX and finding out how to utilize demonic cultivation under the orders of his father. The rumors are also making it harder for Jiang Cheng and WWX to stand together. So lo-and-behold how Jixuan ruins his father’s and brother's plan.
Seeing how Yanli is upset with the discord with her brothers and how much it means to her, Jixuan resolves to fix it. His brother told him not to worry about it that it should hopefully resolve itself in time, but he just can’t stand Yanli upset. He also knows that Jiang Cheng will not accept anything he says’s at face value (remembers when he tried to ask for advice).
When he sees Jiang Cheng he already has a plan. He knows it can backfire but if it works…
Tells Jiang Cheng that he’s happy to know that he’s the better younger brother. Jiang Cheng is confused until Jixuan spells out that he at least stood by his brother even though there were viscious rumors about him. Insulted Jiang Cheng states that he is definitely the better younger brother and marches to the Burial Mound.
Tells WWX to bring the Wens to Lotus Pier and together they will figure out how to keep the remaining Wen’s safe. Jiang Cheng later admits that it was ‘the peacock’ that insulted him and that he refused to be the worst younger brother. WWX only agrees to take everyone else to Lotus Pier because 1) The Wen’s really need a better place to settle, 2)A-yuan should really not grow up in a dismal place like this and 3) that “Peacock” is not allowed to challenge his brother this way. No way!
Guangyao finds out what Jixuan did
Guangyao: Did you just dimantle all the careful planning I did for father? Jixuan: *looks at Yanli with hearts in his eyes ♪(´▽`) * huh? did you say something?
Guangshan uses this as an opportunity to force WWX to give up the Stygian Tiger Seal or he will not allow Jixuan and Yanli to marry. WWX knows why he can’t give the Stygian Tiger Seal, but he doesn’t want to ruin this for Yanli. Yanli takes the choice from WWX and tells Jixuan that she can’t marry him. Guangshan calls for a conference.
Jixuan is pissed at his father and goes to him during a conference with the other sects to demand his father to stop his bullshit and that the only reason he wants the seal is for a power grab. (Yeah, he’s pissed that he finally connected with Yanli and seeing her in tears is NOT OKAY!) Guangshan has him ordered out of the conference. Things don’t go well for the Jin Sect when Mingjue questions Guangshan about the Stygian Tiger Seal and whether he would take advantage of the situation. The Conference ends in a failure.
Meanwhile, Madam Jin is furious at Guangshan. She does not like Guangyao but at this point her son’s happiness is on the line and she knows Guangyao knows more than he lets on. She orders him to appear before her and to tell her what exactly he did. He admits his deeds but that he only did what his father asked of him. This pisses her off as she knows how loyal Jixuan is to him and tells Guangyao so.
He reminds himself that he actually values his brothers loyalty and love than the father who had no such intention of giving him any. So know Madam Jin and Guangyao team up (for now) to have Guangshan to back off. He has but is still refusing on continuing any more marriage prospect between the Jin and Jiang Sect. (cue Madam Jin getting ready to blow up Carp Tower only for Guangyao to tell her to please let him handle this).
OMG this took me two days! TBH I was house hunting so yeah that would take time, second one was Jin Guangyao as I kept writing I realized he was starting to sound sappy.
Guangyao is a character I’m trying to keep in character and honestly if I was writing this properly I may be able to convey him correctly but... *still thinks about the WIP I’m still working on* Not going to attempt.
*Secretely may. There’s a lot of things I wanted to write like the Yanli and Jixuan interaction but yeah.
I may do one more post of the Jin Sibling AU. I feel like it’s nearing the end. However if anyone is interested in anything else that happens in this Au go ahead and leave an ask or comment. Now I’m going to chill for a bit before I finish writing up the last part on my notebook to organize my ideas.

I love phoenix wwx so imagine an au where the jiangs are all bird hybrids and when the wens come and takeover lotus pier they rip out jc's wings so instead of a golden core transfer wwx has wen qing give jc his own wings
And it works miraculously, and jc and wwx's feathers are both black so jc doesn't suspect a thing. Since he doesn't have wings anymore, he created some: wings of inky black shadows that whisper dark dreams and scream their Grievances as he flies.
When wwx turns 26, however, he stumbles into jgy's treasure room and finds suibian and a book of his past life's writings. Normally phoenix's remember their past life, but wwx's end was so traumatic that in his rebirth he forgot everything. This was also helped by a number of tonics and whatnot that jgy had been slipping into mxy's makeup. But finally wwx remembers, and so jgy makes up a story about how mxy sexually harrassed him and throws him out of lanling, locking him up at Mo Manor until jgy can find a more suitable prison for him.
That night, the arm I set loose at Mo Manor.
How tragic to find out only now, after everything had been said and done. How tragic that all those years ago, he had thrown himself into the wens hands and lost his wings to save wwx, sacrificing the most important part of him and dooming him to what would've a slow and agonizing death, and then spend so many years resenting wwx for the death of his sister and his family, for repaying jc for his ultimate sacrifice by betraying him and abandoning him when he needed wwx most....only to find out that wwx had sacrificed just as much, maybe even more, for jc, and had been with him always, a symbol of his unwavering devotion to jc and his family even when he had been missing those three long months. How cruel. How cruel. And yeah this is very pieced together and confusing but wangxian get married and they have their son.
(also nie Huaisang helped wwx get into jgy's treasure room and find his own writings (gifts from Huaisang to jgy), then set the arm out at Mo manor)

AU where JGS was not a bastard.
Recognized that Madam Jin was not into him, but their families arranged the marriage. Arranged a pregnancy without penetration with research into dual cultivation (ritual for a boy) and after the child was born Madam Jin went to visit her childhood friend at Lotus Pier and never moved back. Madam Yu was much happier than canon with her ‘friend’ with her.
Bought a prostitute with major skills in literature, music, conversation and entertainment to host social events at Koi Tower: despite reassuring her that sleeping with him was not required it was obvious she’d feel more secure with that kind of relationship and also wanted a child of her own after helping take care of JZX. The two of them sleeping together and JGS making it fairly public and making it clear that he thought highly of her also helped discourage idiot insults, since pointing out that she was a former prostitute = implying that the sect leader was an idiot for buying a prostitute.
JIn ZiXuan and Jin ZiYao growing up together. Madam Jin sending a letter saying she wanted the daughter she helped raise to marry her blood son (to substitute for her and Madam Yu not being able to get married) and JGS being ‘sure’ since his own arranged marriage worked out quite well and Jiang Yanli, growing up with her moms, would hopefully have heard their story and instead of being clingy or whatever would be open to sitting down with Jin ZiXuan and working out how to arrange for the two of them to be happy.
Madam Yu and her husband were focused on the sect in general, so Madam Jin helping her daughter Yanli with her cultivation, although a combination of sexism and Yanli just not having the best spiritual roots kept her from being chosen for sect head over JC - not that the parents wanted the sects to merge/a couple to have to split their time between the HQs.
Madam Jin sending a ‘what the hell?’ letter to JGS when gossip says he got a sixteen-year-old pregnant - he writes back that he went to Mo Village leading some trainees night hunting and in the process found a young couple had tried to elope but it ended in tragedy with the girl already pregnant. The girl’s family were not good people, so he decided to claim the child as his as an excuse to bring her back to Koi Tower. Mo XuanYu remains MXY due to not actually being a Jin.
JZX and Yanli surprise all four of their parents by actually falling in love? Madam Jin visiting for wedding planning: JGY’s mother is nervous that she’ll want to reclaim her place but Madam Jin makes it clear that she doesn’t want JGS back since she’s not into dudes. JGS sending Madam Jin letters gossiping about their son’s fail attempts at being romantic.
Jin ZiYao going to study at Cloud Recesses and crushing so effing hard on Lan XiChen, but the heir of the righteous Lan sect marrying the son of a prostitute? But things are heading towards war, and someone who turned the tide of the war would have a MUCH better shot at LXC, so JZiYao stabs Jin ZiXun for insulting his mother and defects to the Wens, sending his intel to NMJ because the Wen’s’d be looking for communications between him and his dad. Ends up killing WRH and saving NMJ”s life in the process, so NMJ swears brotherhood and becomes wingman in the LXC wooing, or rather Huaisang does because he has some idea what he’s doing in the romance dept. LXC is also pushing for the Lan sect to recognize gay marriage for the sake of his little brother’s happiness.
During one of Huaisang’s visits to Koi Tower for conspiring purposes *cough* I mean, ‘business with the chief cultivator,’ MXY crushes on him. Xue Yang is IDed as psycho and not accepted as a disciple. Instead the sects decide that WWX needs to destroy the Seal, and WWX doesn’t want to go to Gusu to work on it there, going to Lotus Pier would be putting that power in the Jiang sect’s hands since WWX is a sect member and the Nie said no since their saber spirits involve resentful energy and they don’t want the Seal near them, so the Jin sect is a neutral location with a library (also WWX is happy to be there bc shijie’s there doing wedding prep). LWJ volunteers to copy research material from the Gusu Library, so the gossip letters also contain ‘by the gods how can anyone be so clueless’ updates from JGS on the LWJ/WWX situation for Madam Yu to LOL at.
...WWX and JC being bridezillas. Shijie’s wedding MUST be perfect!
Oh, Qin Su - the Qin sect leader is impotent due to a qi deviation but he didn’t want that to get out/didn’t like the people who would inherit if he didn’t have a kid, so he asked his BFF to do that getting someone pregnant ritual. His wife was not happy about this until she was assured there was no penetration involved. Supposed to be a guaranteed son but strong yin energy something something Qin Su was determined to be a woman apparently. There wasn’t a second try for a boy because JGS was like ‘yeeeah it’d be kind of a dick move to contribute to my bio daughter getting passed over in favor of a guy,’ so she remained sect heir.
WWX finding out about the conception ritual and idly finding a way for two guys to have a kid (although they still need a surrogate mom) as a favor to Jin ZiYao’s attempted Romance and not at all because he’s thinking of LWJ. When the two hook up, Wen Qing volunteering to be the surrogate in the name of Research into methods for ensuring easier/safer pregnancy and childbirth.
Many years later, asexual!JC deciding that JGS had the right idea with buying and freeing a prostitute and then hiring her to provide the social graces he lacks and also he reallyreallywants a kid and his bro and sis refuse to let him kidnap theirs. So he gives Jin ZiYao’s mom like a ton of money and she goes to several cities/brothels and buys like a dozen people who seem nice and sends them to Lotus Pier for the job interview. Most of them end up sticking around so JC gets the harem master rep despite not sleeping with any of them. People doing harem intrigues to secure their children’s futures is averted by JC doting on ALL the kids instead of only one or two faves. There are so many puppies. And so many kids that JC, not JGS, ends up the one with the sex fiend rep.
(LIke, Madame Meng going ‘OFC you’re free to go, here’s some money, but if you want a job social manager for a Great Sect is a sweet gig I highly reommend, you get room board, lots of $ and Wen Qing as your family physician, the health care is A++ also cultivators to beat the shit out of anyone who looks down on you for being a former prostitute.Jiang Cheng doesn’t want to have sex with you, which is a bit unfortunate since cultivator guys are freaking hot’)

The forbidden crack! Untamed prompts: 16/?
FMA AU meets “The Wind Rises” AU : “I still remember every day”
[crazy idea #1: if you are familiar with FMA: Brotherhood (superior in every way) you probably are too young or too smart to remember the original 2003 FMA clusterfuck series but i’m neither young nor smart so here is my take on one of my favorite animated movies of all times “The Conqueror of Shamballa” BUT the story doesn’t start in 1923 Germany but somewhere around 1923 Japan. If you are familiar with this movie and the 2003 series you will know Ed Elric has moved from London to Munich and started living there frequently interacting with a family of rocket scientists (sounds crazy if you are only knowledgeable with FMA: B, but… trust me). So i thought, “what if our protagonist (in this case WWX) travels from China to Japan to work on some airplanes instead?”]
[crazy idea #2: “The Wind Rises” from Ghibli is set in that historical period right? so what if we make transmigrated WWX work his engineering magic on some aircrafts before any conflict can actually take place? precisely between the end of the Taisho period (1912-1926) and the beginning of the Showa period (1926-1989), when the desire for innovation and the new technological advancements could be implemented while at peace.]
[obviously, this is just a prompt, and I don’t feel particularly comfortable with creating fantasy storylines so intertwined with actual historical events, especially if these events caused the suffering of many and belong to a culture that is not mine to describe with the potential risk of offending its values and legacy. also, fandom should be fun and if you love angst maybe this is not the prompt for you. on the other hand I thought of how much i love movies like “Porco Rosso”, set somewhat really fucking close to where I live while describing a fun and lighthearted narrative even if it’s dealing with historical and political events that are still fresh and painful in our collective memory nowadays. Maybe it is possible to write something easy and fun while, at the same time, setting it in a time of great difficulties without hurting anyone. Maybe I’m not the person for that (after all, this is just a prompt), but if you want to explore a similar plot you are encouraged to tag me bc I would really like to know your take on the matter. and if I happen to offend anyone I will properly apologize and take responsibility.]
[the title is from L’Arc-en-Ciel’s song “Lost Heaven”, which still makes me cry to this day]
*
When Wei WuXian wakes up after the core transplant surgery, the first thing he realizes is that he should be awake. Wen Qing insisted on the fact that he had to keep himself awake and conscious for the entirety of the procedure, otherwise he would have suffered from extreme backlash and so would have Jiang Cheng. But here he is, waking up from slumber after who know how many days. In front of a figure in white he doesn’t recognize. Everything is blurry in his periphery, as if he’s inhabiting two bodies at the same time. His every move heavy and his speech sluggish.
The person in white turns the moment Wei WuXian realizes he’s standing in the middle of nowhere, in the space between realities.
“Where am I?”, he asks, trying to make out the features of the person in front of him, their long white hair, the silver lining of their robes.
“You’re here to pay a price.”, the other answers, their voice a mere whisper. Barely louder than the crisp little noises the pins and jewelry adorning their hair and neck are making as the person approaches him slowly.
“A price for what?”
“Before losing consciousness, you wished for your brother to be saved no matter what.”
“Is… is Jiang Cheng safe?”
“He’s dying because you fell asleep.”, the other announces, sending shivers down Wei WuXian’s spine, dread sitting in the middle of his chest, “You cannot wake up, the damage is done. But if you enter this door you will be able to save him. Your body in this world will die, the core will not share two owners at once and your brother will be the only one able to use it from now on.”
Wei WuXian doesn’t have time to feel pain, determination painting him in vibrant colors in that white realm of silence and void. He turns as the person in white gestures him to do so and he finds a door so big it could rival with one of the gates of Koi Tower. Engraved on its surface are myriads of characters reminding him of something ancient and forbidden. Something so dark and dangerous not even cultivators as knowledgeable as Lan QiRen would be able to understand, let alone encourage learning about.
“What will i find on the other side?”, he wonders, watching as the gates slowly open in front of him, a warm wind spiraling upwards and messing his hair.
A kiss from the underworld.
Is this the day I die, he doesn’t ask.
“Another world.”, the woman in white and silver answers honestly.
Wei WuXian doesn’t have time to recognize her that he is dragged inside by a thousands of spirits with eyes for mouths and teeth for hands.
*
Mere months have passed since he woke up in a body similar to his original one, but completely different from his own at the same time. He’s still seventeen, but cannot rely on cultivation anymore. The brand scar he received in the cave of the Tortoise of Slaughter is nowhere to be seen. His mother and father welcomed him back in their arms, crying over his bedridden body thanking the heavens for saving their only son from typhoid fever. He knew deep down those were not his true parents, that Cange Sanren had a different name on top of that and that their actual son’s soul was probably the sacrificial lamb paid on the altar of Wei WuXian’s greed to save his only brother. He knew this since day one, yet he was too tired to say anything at the time. He woke up in a small village in the Hubei Province under the Republic of China, established twelve years prior. A reality almost identical to his own, but stripped of any power of the cultivation world.
However, now things have changed and his parents have died a second time, the fever and starvation taking them in their sleep one at a time. But not before his mother could send a desperate letter to an old acquaintance of hers asking them to take their son “Wei Ying” out of the country and save him from harm. After accepting her proposition, the Chinese diplomat Jiang Fenmiang has invited Wei Ying to live with him and their family in Tokyo, where he’s working in order to strengthen and acquiesce the relations between the two countries after a period of tension and grievances.
As he travels on what he understands to be called a “train”, Wei WuXian takes notes over the many technological advancements this new era has brought to humanity. Such as the ferry he has taken to travel overseas and now the locomotive taking him to Tokyo. The pain of losing his parents for the second time is still fresh, as is the memory of the past few months living alone on the streets chased by rabid dogs. His body is still weak after surviving the fever and his lungs and digestive system are forever compromised, but he wants to meet Jiang Chen and YanLi a second time in this new world. Feeling guilty for leaving them in a world ruled by the Qishan Wen clan, the only thing he can do is to atone in this new life and protect them in this reality. He takes a brief moment to himself as he looks up from his notes and sees a man approaching from the first class carriage of the train.
Initially Wei WuXian doesn’t regard the stranger with anything but a polite nod, some of his notes flying away from his journal as he adjusts himself on the platform at the end of his car. He sprints up to try to catch them... before the stranger could grab them for him and give them back.
It’s then that Wei WuXian recognizes the man, an older version of Lan Zhan from the one he remembers, dressed in modern clothing and shorter hair. He’s just another double, a copy of the original he used to know. Just like his mother and father, just like the Jiang family he’s going to meet soon. No recognition comes from the other-Lan Zhan, yet Wei WuXian lets himself stare for longer than necessary as he thanks the man.
A single tear rolls down his cheek as an earthquake shakes the train and destroys everything around them in that day of September 1923.
[details down below]
1923:
(WWX is 17)
the train stops and all the passengers survive, but they are scared and don’t know how to reach Tokyo safely by foot. Some officers guide them to the nearest road and help them walk for a while before they have to leave for the capital in an attempt to contain the flames of the many fires caused by the earthquake.
Lan Zhan’s double has the same name and features, but is now twenty-five and was supposed to arrive in Tokyo to meet with his brother, Lan Huan’s double. He’s a little more cheerful than what WWX remembers and he also decides to stick with the younger man all the way to Tokyo. After glancing at WWX’s notes earlier, in fact, double!LanZhan recognizes him as someone from his same country and reasons they should feel safer traveling together for a little while more.
given that trying to explain his situation to double!LanZhan would be useless, WWX simply agrees and shoves down any temptation to tell him all about Gusu and the cave and how much he wishes he could go back to his original world. They walk all the way to Tokyo talking quietly: they are surrounded by strangers, WWX doesn’t know much Japanese to begin with and he doesn’t want to be recognized as a foreigner.
uncle Jiang, along with some clothes to travel more comfortably, has sent him enough money to travel and direction to reach his home. The only thing WWX hopes is that nobody was injured in the earthquake and that no more waves can reach them before he can join them. What an unfortunate time to arrive. Aunt Yu would probably hate him in this reality too just because of that.
but as he trails behind double!LanZhan and enters Tokyo, WWX feels as if hell has found its way into the world, flames everywhere and nowhere to go. In the midst of chaos, however, double!LanZhan tries to keep him from fainting or shaking, talking about all the things he and his brother wish to work on as architects working for the government. Yet, WWX senses how worried he is for his twin brother and pities him as he tries to calm down, marveling at how much this version of Lan Zhan can talk. They walk towards the Jiang household as double!LanZhan chats about the university he’s supposed to work for the following month, wondering if it’s still intact after the catastrophe.
they reach the elegant house without any more troubles, relief spreading through their hearts as they notice it has endured little to no damage. Uncle Jiang scurries over them and immediately recognizes WWX bc of how much he resembles his mother and the man dotes on him from then on. He thanks double!LanZhan profusely, ignoring the resentful glances coming from his wife and the curious ones from his daughter. A kid roughly the same age as WWX approaches and takes the other’s only suitcase: a scowl on his face and hurry in his steps, telling WWX to keep up because “the world is crashing down if he hadn’t noticed”.
WWX doesn’t have time to properly thank double!LanZhan that he is urged inside by his new family.
1927:
(WWX is 21)
given the connections the Jiang family has in both countries, WWX and his step siblings are able to enjoy benefits others may only dream of, but the government is wary of foreigners and they need to act as good guests. This angers and stresses Jiang Cheng, his temper even worse than what WWX remembers, and he is even more rebellious than his new stepbrother. It’s WWX who needs to tone down the other’s snark at times, reminding him they cannot do as they please and that, even if others are jealous of their grades in university and overall position, they are still living in difficult times.
WWX knows this Jiang Cheng is a double ant that everything feels like a dream and nothing matters anymore, but if he pretends hard energy maybe he can stop feeling guilty for leaving his dear ones behind. But acknowledging this Jiang Cheng as the real one feels wrong and sometimes WWX distances himself from him, keeping his secrets for himself.
however, double!JiangCheng has seen his brother scream in his dreams, even waking him up in the middle of the night just to shake him from his horrible nightmares. Sometimes Wei Ying watches him in his sleep, when he hasn’t yet realized double!JiangCheng is awake, as checks for his breath. Other times he pressed a hand to his abdomen, as if checking for scars or injuries. He doesn’t know what it means, but he is willing to wait for the other to come around and they’ll him himself.
their sister YanLi has figured a way to be useful in a country wary of foreigners by studying to become a doctor and save lives. Their father is currently struggling at work because of the increasing tensions between the two countries and their mother keeps to herself in spite of everything.
WWX’s health deteriorates after he starts working, their supervisor suggesting him and his brother to keep a low profile just not to attract any unwanted attention on their family. Their work as engineers can convince the higher-ups to keep them close in case war were to strike again. But Jiang Cheng feels bad for working for a country constantly threatening his parent’s home country over mining rights and land ownership. He may love working on new aircrafts and test his limits, but he’s against using his energy and drive for appease someone else’s greed.
WWX, for the first time in his life, feels second to his brother, admiring his ability to distinguish from right and wrong while he himself cannot even tell dreams and reality apart. With a weakened body and a mind filled with memories of a world that doesn’t even exists, WWX convinces himself he’s in hell and this life is the punishment for being too greedy himself.
1929:
(WWX is 23, double!LWJ is 30)
tension is too strong for them to live in Tokyo, with Uncle Jiang forced to work for the government and scramble for solutions in order to keep his family safe in a secluded location in the mountains, in a hotel in the middle of nowhere. There, the elites enjoys the last days of peaceful times they will not see again for years to come.
WWX feels drained, dreaming of people he will either never see again or see every single day in the faces of strangers. Jiang Cheng convinces him to talk, even if only to ease his pain, but WWX cannot bring himself to reveal the whole truth. The only thing he feels like to share is that he has visions of another world and that maybe reincarnation is not as far fetched as it seems.
Jiang Cheng doesn’t really believe him, but he supports him and together with YanLi they try to make Wei Ying relax during their vacation on the mountains.
there, out of nowhere, WWX meets double!LanZhan and his brother: they meet on top of a hill as the wind rises and some of the two brothers’ musical scores fly away. WWX and his stepbrother catch them and bring them back as YanLi approaches the two musicians.
this time, WWX notice immediately something is wrong. Double!LanZhan is far less cheerful than what he remembers from their first encounter, while his brother seems to have lost his vision, music being his only comfort. The group exchanges pleasantries with the twins on top of the hill, until rain forces them all to seek refuge under some trees. WWX watches double!LanZhan closely and realizes these years apart must have been tough on him. He asks if double!LanHuan has lost his sight after the earthquake and the only thing double!LanZhan is able to do is nod, his eyes filled with tears.
Would it be so bad to befriend this other-LanZhan? Is it right for WWX to start a new life in hell with someone so compassionate and kind? Maybe that would be okay in the end, maybe they can be good friends and survive this world that is wary of them simply because of the greed of human kind. Then why does it feel wrong to let himself be loved by these people? Why does it feel like he’s betraying the ones he has left behind?
during their vacation, the two families get closer and they enjoy each other’s company. They talk in Japanese to not be stared by the other patrons and WWX wonders what happened in his world. If the Wens have crumbled down. If their name is synonymous with hatred and greed. If this is how any refugee would feel, isolated from the rest of the country while desperately trying to hold onto any familiar face and memory at hand.
Jiang Cheng doesn’t like to talk in another language and fear others might look down on him and seldom attracts attention by causing mayhem. But YanLi and even double!LanHuan help him come down from his stubborn antics and take him to long walks to calm down. This way, WWX and double!LanZhan are frequently left alone, because Wei Ying cannot walk for too long without feeling exhausted and so the other keeps him company.
since double!LanZhan is so under the weather and quiet, WWX takes it upon himself to entertain him and he spends their days chatting about the things he misses from home, what he would like to do if he were to live somewhere else, they airplanes he would like to make. He doesn’t talk about how much me misses flying on a sword, or how the wind fills under his clothes up in the air, or how much he would have loved to hold onto Lan Zhan among the stars at night.
WWX cries in front of double!LanZhan without noticing one day, missing the days at the Cloud Recesses when they were classmates and he used to pester the other boy. And only now, only now he understands what it was, what he wanted to convey with his antics. How much he wanted the other to notice him and pay attention to him. But the one rubbing a comforting hand up and down his spine now is not his Lan Zhan. Even if he’s just as kind and compassionate, just as quiet and brilliant, just as hurt and lonely.
they share a kiss under the trees of a meadow one afternoon and WWX feels like he’s either betraying the real Lan Zhan or this gentle young man who’s never done anything bad in his entire life. And he doesn’t know why double!LanZhan is crying as well as they kiss, but he’s too afraid to ask.
the following day Uncle Jiang calls the rest of his family back home and the Jiang siblings say their goodbyes to the twins hiding alone with their uncle on the mountain. Promising to meet each other again soon, even if WWX knows that’s most likely nothing but a well intentioned lie given the hardships they’re bound to face.
1930:
Lan Zhan:
(WWX is 24, double!LWJ is 31)
after meeting with the Jiang family, the twins try to retrieve their life as usual the moment they return in Tokyo for the winter. Their uncle notices double!LanZhan’s distress over departing from the young men he had met there, but his inquiry is fruitless since his nephew refuses to speak. The old man has noticed some changes in the younger twin over the course of a couple of years or so: his frequent migraines and tiredness, his laborious efforts to speak as if feverish and confused, his nights interrupted by nightmares more often than not.
even his brother has noticed the difference despite losing his vision in the fire at the imperial university seven years prior. His cheerful spirit is gone, his steps alternate different rhythms at times, and even his accent often doesn’t sound familiar to him. In his younger brother’s words “it’s almost as if two of me are residing in a single body”. But Lan Huan doesn’t know what to make of it, wishing he could look his brother in the eyes and see the truth for himself.
double!LanZhan, on the other hand, feels split in half ever since he has kissed Wei Ying. He remembers that day because his body has moved on its own, half of his mind lost in Wei Ying’s grey eyes while the other half (his own half) was trying to understand why the sudden urge to hold the boy tighter in his arms. He felt like someone had possessed him for those brief, stolen moments in time before leaving his body altogether the second Wei Ying has run away from him in the meadow.
unable to find an answer, feverish and tired with a migraine splitting his brain in half, double!LanZhan wanders around Tokyo trying to remember where the Jiang residence was. His feet walking him towards Wei Ying and Jiang Cheng’s room in the evening one day. Wei Ying is alone, sitting down by a table covered in drawings. Mesmerized, double!LanZhan watches from the window as Wei Ying traces the lines of faces and places, over an over again, as if he doesn’t want to forget what his imagination has shown him that night.
seeing what is depicted on the table, double!LanZhan’s migraine worsens and he collapses in the back garden, snow piling up on him. Wei Ying immediately notices and brings him inside, covering him in quilts to keep him warm. But Wei Ying is the warmest of all, his embrace like a balsam over double!LanZhan’s pulsing head as the younger tries to keep him warm by rubbing his arms over and over.
suddenly his head doesn’t hurt anymore and he can finally, finally let go. Let the other half take his place for now, just for a little while, as he takes a small nap in Wei Ying’s arms.
when he wakes up, Lan Zhan cries all of his tears.
he was finally able to reach Wei Ying, his Wei Ying, who was trapped in another world. The one Lan Zhan has been looking for ever since the end of the Sunshot Campaign, ever since Jiang Cheng himself told him of his demise. The one Lan Zhan was able to reach only after sacrificing his golden core to the immortal turned goddes BaoShan Sanren in front of a gate born from the efforts of some past demonic cultivator.
for two years he had tried to make his way through the veil between realities, his consciousness exhausted as if he had been swimming for far too long. The other-him, the man who shared his name and face, hosting his soul at the expenses of his own body for over two years. All because of Lan Zhan’s grief and greed, all because a goddess had promised him he could be reunited with the love of his life. But at what cost... at what cost indeed.
since two souls cannot reside in a single body, one of them had to die in order for Lan Zhan to meet his Wei Ying again. The moment WWX sees the other cry, he immediately recognizes him and tries to console him for the loss of his “other”. But LWJ cannot seem to feel any relief as he falls asleep once more in his arms.
Jiang Cheng:
Jiang Cheng enters the room and is baffled to find one of the twins in there, but seeing his brother crying over the man he decides to help them instead of calling the servants. Things are turning ugly in town for people like them and he doesn’t trust anyone anymore since YanLi got married and started working for the hospital, leaving the brothers alone.
in tears, Wei Ying tells him everything: of his dreams of another world, of the one he was destined to meet, of Lan Zhan finally remembering who he really was. He’s still fixated on this “past life” thing, uh? Jiang Cheng doesn’t really understand, but he knows the two man has grown fond of each other the previous summer and doesn’t really envy their fate.
he watches over them as they fall asleep in each other’s arms, having promised them to keep the servants from knowing about Lan Zhan’s presence in their house. That’s when he comes up with a plan and calls Lan Huan on the phone, briefly telling him that “his brother Lan Zhan has made a choice and that he cannot stay in Tokyo anymore”.
Lan Huan asks Jiang Cheng if his brother is there, to which the other only says “yes”. Is he with Wei Ying? Yes. Are they in love? Yes. Do they need to hide? “I can manage that for them.”
They meet the following morning at dawn, outside of Lan XiChen’s house to not attract the attention of the Jiang servants. Jiang Cheng will escort the two lovebirds to a cottage somewhere in the countryside, far away from society. When Lan Huan will succeed in convincing Lan QiRen to follow him there, they will receive them and arrange something.
Jiang Cheng May not believe his brother, but he knows things are getting dangerous in the country, especially for foreigners like them. Let alone someone like Wei Ying and his lover.
Wei WuXian:
While Lan Zhan is still feverish, Jiang Cheng and WWX take the train with the older man to the countryside. WWX feels bad for leaving, but Lan Zhan needs to rest away from the modern world for a while and he himself doesn’t feel well at all. Not with his lungs giving up on him any time he has to stiffen a cough and swallow his own blood with every breath. His weakened body may have caught something in the last few months, but he will not give up on Lan Zhan now.
They reach the cottage and Jiang Cheng immediately sends a letter to his sister, apologizing for what he’s about to do. They only have to wait a week for Lan Huan and Lan QiRen to arrive, but in the meantime Lan Zhan has regained enough energy to eat and stand up on his own. WWX asks him what is going on, and LWJ tells him that he’s currently trying to hold onto this body while simultaneously ruling over his original body in Gusu. He doesn’t want to fade away, but he fears slipping out of reach and leave WWX behind a second time.
when Lan QiRen sees them, he cannot deny what is in front of him: someone who is merely pretending to be his nephew greets him with a stoic face as he announces his intention to marry a man. Despite the initial shock, when Lan Huan has asked him to take him in the middle of nowhere in the countryside in winter, Lan QiRen has accepted to indulge him knowing Lan Zhan must have had something to do with it. But this in front of him is definitely not his nephew and this realization hurts more then knowing he is in love with a man.
Lan Huan, on the other hand, knows from his voice this is not his brother but cannot explain why. He’s filled with grief at the thought and not even his uncle can comfort him, the older man himself in pain for a loss he cannot comprehend.
WWX asks them to indulge them just this time, feeling like his life is getting closer and closer to its end, not knowing what else to do. Jiang Cheng comforts the two men as he tries to explain his reasons, that nobody will let them have even an ounce of joy in the world they’re forced to live in and that, if things will end up getting worse in the end, at least they’ll have this memory to look back to. He feels like a war is approaching, and no one can know what kind of world will greet them at the end of it.
Lan Zhan:
the day of his wedding he’s very nervous, having asked their hosts to simplify the traditional ceremony given the fact that Wei Ying and he are both men and there are no actual guest attending. They bow to the heavens and the earth, to their families, and then to each other. Their clothes are far less expensive or appropriate from the nuptial red they would have worn under different circumstances, yet Lan Zhan has never felt more adorned and rich, basking in Wei Ying’s love.
they spend their first night together whispering sweet nothings in each other’s ears, tired and happy as they have never been before.
Wei WuXian:
they stay at the cottage for months, receiving news from the outside world every now and then from Jiang Cheng and Lan Huan. He suspects his brother is keeping something to himself, ignoring his questions over the political situation altogether, but he doesn’t insist.
LWJ tells him stories of the Sunshot Campaign, of how he tried to save the weak, the women, the children and the innocent of the Wen Clan against the rest of the cultivation world. Of how he found a way to summon BaoShan Sanren through some scrolls he had found in Burial Mounds, where he thought WWX’s soul might have disappeared to. Of how he hadn’t even been able to say goodbye to his brother and the people he had saved in Yiling before signing a contract with the immortal.
WWX’s lungs are giving up on him but he tries to keep LWJ from noticing. YanLi comes to meet them one day and makes sure to cry for her brother only when they are finally alone, sensing his intention to keep his husband from knowing the truth. He knows LWJ cannot possibly keep holding onto two bodies at the same time: waking up in Yiling the moment he falls asleep in the cottage; then waking up with Wei Ying every morning the moment he falls asleep in Burial Mounds where he has decided to hide. Without a golden core, for as strong as someone like LWJ can be, he would die if he keeps crossing the veil, the gate between the two worlds.
the day after YanLi has left them alone, WWX spends his last day with his husband, making sure everything is perfect. he also sends letters to his family and thanks them for loving him. he extends his best wishes to the people who worked alongside him, helping him bring to fruition his dream to fly in the sky once more... even if he has never flown in this lifetime.
he’s very happy with his husband and wants to commit every second they spend together to heart. They make love for the last time before they both fall asleep together and dream of home.
he whispers “I wish you good luck” before falling asleep.
Lan Zhan:
he wakes up the next day and Wei Ying is gone. His body cold in his arms.
mad with grief, unable to believe a life without WWX can or should exist, he cries over his husband’s body and wishes he could die.
Lan Huan and Lan QiRen happen to visit that day and find him crestfallen and asking to be left alone to die. But they help him bury the body instead and take care of him. Lan QiRen suddenly feels terrible at the thought of leaving this boy all alone, whether he’s actually his nephew or not. Lan Huan convinces his brother to eat and rest, holding him for as long as it takes for him to calm down.
the following day, as the younger twin wakes up, he asks Lan Huan why they’re in a cottage in the countryside and what happened while he was asleep.
the actual LWJ, by falling asleep, not willing to wake up in a world where WWX doesn’t exists anymore, has allowed double!LanZhan to regain complete control over the body in the cottage. The twin wasn’t dead, just dormant, waiting for LWJ to let go of his body on his own.
waking up in the Burial Mounds, however, with no golden core and no Wei Ying is worse than anything LWJ has ever experienced. Having to survive WWX’s death not one, but two times is too much to handle... but a small kid has found his place in his arms while LWJ was sleeping. His beloved A-Yuan, one of the few Wen children he was able to save from the Lanling Jin’s clutches after the Sunshot Campaign.
as he takes in the sight of the child he considers his own, peacefully sleeping in his bed, LWJ finds the strength to say “just another day”. And then another and another and another again.
13 years later:
Mo XuanYu sacrifices his body for WWX and the first thing Wei Ying does in his new body is to ask the Lan juniors to bring him to Hanguan Jun.
but Lan Zhan is already there, following the juniors around after managing to reforming a golden core in just a little over ten years all on his own. The first thing he says to Wei Ying is “I still remember every day.”
and they begin to travel together for the rest of their life.
*
Now I need a fucking tissue.
[as you can see very little “conquering another world” type of quest because I didn’t like to think too hard. This is more like “what if before transmigrating WWX and LWJ lived somewhere else and got married?” But then I had to make it sad, uh? Fuck.]
[also, demonic-cultivator!LWJ anyone?]

I read your ZhuiYi fic and it makes me wonder if it’s omegaverse. Not that I mind or anything, it’s just I see this everywhere lol. It’s so cute. Also, no hate, I just don’t get why some people ship LSZ and JL. Aren’t they like cousins? LSZ is LWJ and WWX adopted son and JL is JC and WWX nephew. It’ll be very weird if WWX was JL father-in-law if he is JL uncle at the same time. By the way I’m all about ZHUIYI!!!
Regarding LSZ/JL, even though I don’t really ship them, I’m not squicky about them either. They’re just…there, I guess. A popular ship that I can’t get into for some reason. I suspect LSZ/JL are so popular because they’re the main junior characters–they have significantly more of a backstory than anybody else (we don’t even know how old LJY is orz) so it might be easier to write about them. And it wasn’t like anybody knew they were kinda-sorta cousins in the beginning since LSZ’s relationship to WWX wasn’t revealed until much later. Even then, they weren’t raised together, so I doubt they’d really think of each other as cousins, and WWX (who has always considered himself JL’s uncle and LSZ’s kind-of-parent) might be the only one who would find the situation awkward.
(Anyway, I think the ship gained ground in the English fandom because it was first popular in the Chinese fandom. While I’m not an expert on Chinese culture, from what I’ve seen on Twitter about how some straight Chinese men thought WWX and JYL would get together in CQL, it seems like adopted children aren’t really considered part of the family, which may explain why Madam Jin was so against JYL being alone with WWX at Baifeng. So if we consider all that, LSZ, who is the adopted son of an adopted son, might be a perfectly reasonable partner for JL in (ancient?) Chinese culture.)
I’m leaving the logistics of conception up to the reader to decide. How A-Yu was conceived wasn’t really important to the fic, and I didn’t want to get into all the other common sources of conflicts in omegaverse (e.g. heats, scenting, hierarchy, etc.) because at heart this fic is about emotions and I didn’t want to detract from it. If this were omegaverse…it’d be a much longer fic lol because there’d be a lot of worldbuilding to set up. If you’re interested in how the fic might change (or what questions need to be answered) if it was explicitly set in omegaverse, I’ve listed some bullet points under the cut.
1) Is everybody’s secondary gender common knowledge? Does LSZ know LJY is an omega? Does LJY himself know he’s an omega? What are LSZ and JL’s secondary genders? Do their secondary genders affect LSZ&LJY and LSZ&JL’s relationships? How does this affect LSZ/JL and LSZ/LJY’s compatibility?
- I’d probably work under the assumption that everyone knows everyone’s secondary genders unless they’re being deliberately suppressed. I don’t actually know how ABO would work in GuSu, because it feels like omegas would be educated separately from alphas the way female cultivators are separate from the male cultivators. In which case…would LJY and LSZ manage to preserve their friendship through this separation after they present (assuming LSZ is an alpha)? Their genders alone would prime everybody around them who’s seen their close friendship to assume that they’d get together once they’re of an age to actually be interested in relationships, which itself might influence LSZ to see LJY as a potential partner earlier. In which case…this fic would not exist since they’d be happily together since they were teenagers and I’m sorry JL but you don’t get the chance to kiss LSZ in this AU lol
- What would JL’s secondary gender even be?? Honestly I could see him as any of them, and it would probably barely change the plot. LSZ/JL as an A/A pairing? Good for them, showing the finger to gender norms. It’d have the same problems as a non-omegaverse M/M pairing in that males (like alphas) cannot conceive and are expected to be able to lead their sects, probably frowned upon due to the impossibility of conceiving children and also female cultivators all China over will be weeping that two eligible bachelors have taken each other off the market. LSZ/JL as an A/B pairing? Similar to A/A, honestly. A/O? If JGY was alive he’d be scheming to marry JL off to GuSu, so he could be the undisputed leader of the Jin sect, and everybody would probably have been undermining JL’s ability to be a sect leader since the day he presented, which is…well, actually I don’t really know. I have my own ideas of how this might affect their relationship, but I suspect that you can find more varied opinions by looking up LSZ/JL ABO fics.
- If LSZ is a beta…idk man I doubt it’d do much for the plot, honestly, since betas are almost like normal people and all that’s different in this universe would be LSZ having to deal with is LJY’s omega nature.
2) Is this a typical omegaverse where omegas are considered…well, mostly just breeding cows?
- God I hope not. I want LJY to be able to cultivate. If this is how omegas are viewed, then LJY would probably be an extremely frustrated ball of energy, and there’d be a lot more self-doubt in the fic, including LJY wondering if LSZ even likes omegas (if JL was an alpha or a beta in this AU).
3) Heats. How common are LJY’s heats? Does LSZ help him through them, does LJY deal with them on his own, or does he just use suppressants all those years?
- Assuming that LSZ and LJY did not get together despite being very close A/O friends, and assuming that LSZ still managed to like JL, does LSZ try to help LJY through his heats? Does LJY let him? If suppressants are available, LJY would probably just stay on them throughout the entire marriage, and if they failed he might force LSZ to take A-Yu somewhere far from their home while he deals with it himself. I doubt LSZ would try very hard to help with them, given that he’d either be (1) still hung up over JL in the first year and (2) worried that LJY wouldn’t want to be touched by him in the second and third years.
4) Scenting, marking, and bonding.
- Scenting won’t really be a huge part of the fic plot-wise, I guess, but it would add another layer of “things LJY wishes LSZ did out of love”. He’d be happy to have LSZ’s scent on him (assuming that bonded/marked/married omegas are expected to be marked to as not to attract the attention of other alphas), but he wouldn’t dare to scent LSZ back. And A-Yu would be a wonderful mix of LJY and LSZ’s scents (and A-Yu’s own scent), but it’d just make LJY think about what he’s missing out on.
- Does LSZ mark LJY when they slept together the first time? Does LJY stop him? Who knows. Honestly, it could go either way, and both ways would hurt. Option (A): no marking, no bonding, would result in a marriage that is purely contractual, the way it already is in the fic, but with LJY feeling that this marriage is nothing like what he wants in more ways than just LSZ not loving him. Where is the comfort of having a mark and knowing that your partner wants everyone to know you’re together? Where is the comfort of having a bond and knowing that your partner has willingly bound themselves to you for life? Option (B): marked and bonded. LJY would learn that being marked and bonded means absolutely nothing if LSZ’s heart is not in it. It’s just like a brand, like a mark of possession, except that the owner doesn’t even want to look at what he possesses. Marked and bonded, the feeling of being unwanted is even stronger.
- Okay, but happy ending: after they talk it out, LSZ might scent LJY and ask to be scented back right before they fall asleep, so that they’d sleep as completely mutually scented family for once. And when they exchange ribbons (on their fourth anniversary), they finally mark and bond like they mean it (or, if they’ve already been marked and bonded, they go through the motions again and LJY revels in knowing that it finally means what it wants it to mean).
As you can see…a lot of questions need to be answered, and I didn’t want to dedicate an entire chapter to setting the scene so I just…left this to the reader’s imagination haha

The never ending shelf of WiPs
(Working titles are italicized. this is my attempt at organizing myself. Includes both Original and Fan Works. Post under a cut as this got long real quick...)
Original Works
“Rebel Songs”: November 1920. Dublin, Ireland. A chance meeting brings WW1 veterans Shannon Maxwell and Lawrence Barton together and into a whirlwind romance. Their first problem? Shannon is an IRA soldier and Lawrence works with the RIC Special Reserve. (currently writing random scenes, outlining, and researching)
“iceskating”: Modern day. Somewhere. Danny Reid is hired by Esmé Caldwell - renowned former Olympic Ice Skater and current coach - to help get her protege back into competitive shape. Jason O’Rinn - scarred, intense, and guarded - is just the sort of man Danny should stay away from, but he can’t turn away from fixing broken things, especially when Jason reaches back to heal Danny’s own scars. (I’ve maybe an eighth done of a first draft. fully outlined. need to do research)
“Red Headed Bastards”: [fictional year. fictional city name]. Lauren Lowfey, marked from birth as an outsider by her red hair, is just trying to make a life. One day she gets a package to deliver at the Aesir Castle that sends her life into far more adventure than she ever asked for or wanted. Outside the city, though, forces are moving to make the first moves of Ragnarok. (need to write scenes, need to outline, need to research)
“Chicago History Poetry Zine Series”: Poetry to inform about significant, and some not so significant, details about Chicago history. (have a set written about Camp Douglas, though several are in edit mode. Need to figure out the best way to arrange and publish. constantly in research)
“My Squire, My Knight”: visual novel idea. Arthurian based. the MC is related to a king allied to King Arthur - leaning towards being the youngest son of King Pellinore -  and is assigned to be a squire to one of Arthur’s knights: Sir Kai, Sir Dinadan, Sir Palomides, Sir Galehaut, or Sir Mordred. The course of the final days of Camelot are changed depending on the path and choices of the MC. (have the ideas, outlining, researching)
“Mad Ladies Ghost Stories”: Visual novel idea. MC is a Paranormal Investigator trying to find and free the ghosts of a haunted mental hospital without joining their number herself. Each ghost is of a woman falsely deemed insane and fell victim to the cures of her time. (have ideas, need to outline, need to do more research than one book)
“Crow Merwin”: Fantasy inspired by the French Revolution, but with more figures who are not white, presumed straight men. (idea there. I had notes from a year ago, but lost them. need to recreate notes)
Fan Works
K. J. Charles series
“The Magpie Lord - Script Adaptation”: for Charm of Magpies series. Writing exercise. Is what it says on the tin, just me practicing script writing by adapting The Magpie Lord by K. J. Charles. (in progress)
“Damned Spot”: for Green Men Series/Secret Casebook of Simon Feximel. Simon and Robert resolve the story of a haunted theatre. At one point Robert gets stage blood thrown on him. I get to indulge in how much I love MacBeth. (in planning)
“Elaphromancer”: for Charm of Magpies series. A Jono/Doug AU, where Jonothon “Chamber” Starsmore and Doug “Cypher” Ramsey are remade for existing in the world of Charm of Magpies. Jono is a magician who works as a fire breather and sword swallower for the Hellfire Freak Show and Circus. His life gets infinitely more complicated than it already is when he encounters a runaway autonomous Automaton who insists on having Jono help protect a political fugitive. Then the Justiciary gets involved. (in planning, opening scenes written)
Jordan L. Hawk series
“Griffin’s Queer Chicago”: for Whyborne and Griffin Series. Collection of one-shots and other shorts speculating on Griffin’s time in Chicago. So far planning to include the following: bed-sharing w/ Elliot [finished!], almost getting caught having sex under a bridge, having outdoor sex in one of the parks, the Columbian Exhibition World’s Fair, hotel sex w/ Glenn, and the Chicago Athletic Club. (In planning, first short finished!!, may be a while until the next one, in research)
“Seduced by the Shark-Man”: for Whyborne and Griffin Series. Fishborne AU. Instead of an Umbre, Griffin and Glenn find a shark-man who says his name is “Fire In His Blood”. He got very lost, ended up in fresh water, and would like to go home. But not without first finding out everything he can about land-dwellers. (the idea is there)
“Jono, Doug, and the no good, very bad haunted adventure”: For Spirits Series. A Jono/Doug AU where Jonothon “Chamber” Starsmore and Doug “Cypher” Ramsey are remade for existing in the world of the Spirits books. Doug and Jono are both Mediums. Jono’s talents reside in Pyromancy, and Doug has a willing “Spirit Guide” named Warlock. Doug enlists the help of Henry, Vincent, and Lizzie to free Jono from a haunted asylum after one of Jono’s seances goes horrifically wrong and he is confined as mentally insane. (in planning, have beginning scenes written)
