Kissing the Housewardens in Spin the Bottle Headcannons

I'm upset again, so more silly goofy headcannons (these were made to be pretty jokey but I don't mind making more serious romantic headcannons for the housewardens if people want it) (also, these are headcannons given that you and the character both like each other and are fine with kissing each other, for obvious reasons)

Riddle Rosehearts:

I don't know how you got him to play this tbh

He was probably forced to play by Cater cause there's no way in HELL he's gonna lose his first kiss to a silly little game

And then he loses his first kiss to a silly little game

He's lucky you were the one to spin the bottle because if it was anyone else, he would've broken the rules and ran right out the door

He probably just stares at you as you come closer to him

Tries to act calm and normal but fails I'm sorry-

If you give him a kiss on the cheek, he'll be fine, he'll be normal

But if you kiss him on the lips, he'll turn into tomato Riddle real quick

He'd be a little bitter than his first kiss wasn't more special, but is still happy you kissed him

Gives one of the more normal responses out of the group

Probably kissed someone before and didn't think too much of it, so he's perfectly fine with this

When you spin the bottle and it lands on him, he gives a sort of smug look to hide the fact that he's happy the bottle didn't land on someone else

If you give him a kiss on the cheek, he'll make fun of you for how shy you must've been to not give him a real kiss

However he's fine with giving it up now, and even more fine with kissing you in particular

If you say no, he'd respect that and give you a kiss on the cheek, and a complementary hug

“Sorry!” Peter yelps, swallowing before he’s quite ready and hacking in a way that makes James even more queasy.

“Sorry, sorry. But guess what.”

“If I had to guess…” James wonders aloud. “Your clever little rodent ears have picked up another bit of gossip? I don’t know how you manage it, Petey. Terribly well-informed, you are.”

Peter looks inordinately pleased.

“Quite right you are, James. I’ve just heard that Will Diggory—you know, that Seventh Year Ravenclaw?—well, he’s just come out, and he’s gone public with Devlin Abbott!”

“HA! Wormy, I’m quite sure you owe me a Galleon for that one!” James crows.

Peter scowls. “Not a chance. You only got the first part correct, which I had already agreed with you on, if you remember. Doesn’t count, and you thought he was secretly dating—”

“Now hold on just a damned second,” Sirius frowns, interrupting what is sure to be a feisty debate. “I feel like I’m missing a few things. Come out? Come out of what? Public with what?”

Peter looks bemused, so James takes over, explaining patiently: “Come out of the closet. He and Abbott, who is also gay—” Sirius’ eyes become huge— “have gone public with their relationship. Damn it, you’re right, Wormtail, I did think it was secretly Gregor Klein.”

Sirius twitches. “Huh. I never would have guessed,” he says mildly. “Diggory seems so…”

“So what, Padfoot,” James prompts calmly.

It was an inevitable but fortunately rare byproduct of being raised in an ancient family steeped in ignorance and hatred: sometimes Sirius needed some help opening his eyes to a new perspective. There were assumptions he took for granted because he didn’t know any better, but being a generally kind and open-minded person, the work was not overly hard.

“Well, like such a man’s man. No, no, don’t get me wrong,” he rushes out, seeing the looks James and Peter are giving him. “I’m super happy for him. I say live and let live. But you have to admit that it’s a bit weird.”

“Which par’,” Peter inquires curiously, speaking while chewing his blasted bacon again.

“The part about being attracted to another man. Like, sexually.”

James and Peter go stock-still and make sudden eye contact with one another, mirroring astonished expressions. They’re absolutely trying their hardest not to burst into laughter.

How can it be? He has no idea?

“Oh, I dunno, Padfoot,” Peter says slyly, giving Sirius a side-eyed look. “You can’t think of any bloke you’d hop into bed with?”

The restraint James is using right now is nothing short of torturous.

Sirius laughs. “No, you big jessie! If you want to sleep with blokes, have at it, Wormtail, but I tell you, that’s not for me. Oi, where’s Moony? He ought to be here for this.”

Oh, but he’s almost pathetic.

James can’t resist, so he joins in too: “Hmm….what about William Diggory?”

Sirius sputters. “I mean, sure, Diggory’s fit, for a bloke, but, as implied by ‘bloke’, he’s not got a pair of tits.”

“That’s a good point, Padfoot did break up with Lola Edgecomb last year cos ‘she was too flat-chested’,” Peter informs James in a sardonic aside, making liberal use of air quotes. 

“No, no, Petey, maybe it’s just that Diggory’s not fit enough for our Pads,” James murmurs gravely.

Sirius giggles at their little show, then cries, “Cor! I wish Moony were here right now, and he’d tell you two how silly you are.”

Peter and James share a look again, but it’s lost on Sirius.

“Someone fitter, then, hmmm….” Peter taps a finger to his chin thoughtfully. “What about Professor Jero? All the girls thought he was gorgeous—do you reckon he’s hot enough to warm your bed?”

“Ha! As if! No, but keep going, though, these are funny. I bet Moony would come up with some hilarious ones.”

“Well Pete, maybe it’s not about physical beauty,” James muses theatrically.

“Oh no? The prompt was about sexual attraction, if you recall.”

“Yes, of course, and there’s no doubt that appearance plays a huge role in that, but…”

“But…?”

Sirius watches them volley back and forth, and James recognizes a growing exasperation in his expression. He’s always hated not being in on the joke. 

“But maybe it needs to be a gentleman he knows well.”

“’Knows well’? Just how well should he know them?” Peter inquires with mock wonder, blue eyes big and round. 

“Why, I think ‘extremely well’ would be ideal. In fact—” James turns to fully face Sirius— “I think he’d be most likely to fall for his best friend, no matter their gender.”

Sirius’ face goes blank with surprise, then he scowls and crosses his arms.

“Well I’m not about to bed either of you two idiots, sorry, but I have higher—MOONY!!”

And indeed, there appears Remus, tall and lanky, a gentle, eye-crinkling grin for Sirius that manifests as two dimples nestled in between the freckles scattered across his face. 

“Moony, you’ll never guess what these two wankers—”

“Pads, I’d love to hear all about it later, really, sorry, love—ah, fuck, I’ve made a portmanteau of ‘Pads’ and ‘lads’—I think—wait, no, that doesn’t—never mind that, sorry, I can’t stay, I’m just cutting through the Great Hall on my way to a Prefect meeting!”

“Moony, wait!” Sirius wails, haphazardly grabbing a piece of jammy toast and chasing after Remus’ rapidly retreating figure. “You haven’t had any breakfast, you dolt!”

Sirius catches up to him and shoves the toast in his mouth. Remus pauses to smile hugely and stupidly at him. Then he blinks suddenly and turns about with a wave. 

Peter smacks his forehead. James wonders vaguely if either of them took any notice of James and Peter sitting there throughout that whole interaction.

Sirius returns to his seat, cheeks pink and humming happily.

“Sorry lads, what were we talking about?”

Peter, slumped over in frustration, lets out a groan. “We were hypothesizing whether or not you could ever be sexually attracted to a man, and you kindly let us know that James and I are not up to snuff.”

“Ah. Too right.”

“Say…” James says wonderingly, as if this has just occurred to him. “You know Moony extremely well….Moony’s reasonably attractive, isn’t he?”

Peter sits up suddenly. “That’s right, he is! Tall. Nice curls. He’s alright.”

Sirius scoffs. “I’d say more than reasonably attractive or alright, wouldn’t you? I mean, he’s…he’s…he’s Moony…”

Sirius trails off and starts to blink rapidly, brow furrowed.

“Wow, Sirius,” James sighs unconvincingly, resisting an eye roll with all of his might. “Would you fuck Moony’s brains out, then? Suck his cock? Make him eat his breakfast every morning?”

Sirius has stopped blinking and his eyes appear to have glazed over. He’s gazing at a spot about 4 inches left of Peter’s left ear. James swears he can see on Sirius’ face the moment the realization dawns.

“Oh.”

Siren headcanons but they’re not TOOOOOO sad (only a little)

#1. He’s bad at math. He is BAD at math. “Quick, what’s 3 X 6?”

But he’s a prodigy at English/history MAYBE science if I’m feeling nice today. Like Sharkspear over here doesn’t know 2 + 2.

2#. He’s good at singing. (Please give him SOME talents yall he can’t only be a goofy goober). His mother named him Siren for a REASON. He loves doing it to, him and his dad used to sing together when he couldn’t sleep. It’s a softer part of him. However, he is MORTIFIED to do it infront of others. He was caught by Kappa one day and never lived down the embarrassment. (Kappa DEF begged him to sing again)

3#. His hair is actually wavy/pretty curly. (Shoal kinda looks like he does) but has NO idea how to take care of it so he just leaves it sticking up. He’d be the type of kid to smack his hairbrush against his head while crying. He’s broken brushes and can’t even USE combs.

4#. He has a lighter voice. Softer and sillier. Like, Kappa would have the deeper quieter of the two while Siren would sound like a cartoon character. Or new reporter but sillier. The second you talk to this guy you just KNOW he’s gonna be your best friend till you walk away. Like, it’s not harsh but it has bass to it. He’s not particularly loud but you WILL hear him if he wants to be heard. VOICE CRACKS WHEN HES HAPPY.

5#. He THRIVES talking to people. Loved it. Could talk for HOURS and still want to keep going. Talking about life, their thoughts, his thoughts, stupid rants. Anything. He takes control of group convos and just LEADS. Why? Because he’s just charming and funny, literally social sweetheart. Always DELIGHTED to make new friends.

6#. He is literally a walking cartoon character. His voice, the way he talks, the things he says, his laugh, the way he talk with his hands, the way he reacts literally EVERYTHING about him is so expressive and fun to watch. He’s the funnest person to talk to because he’ll ALWAYS give you a reaction and funny joke. He’s basically pinkie pie just as a dude and shark.

7#. Cries to art. He is MOVED by music and paintings and LITERATURE and literally everything that the arts includes.

8#. (YOU CAN IGNORE THIS ONE ITS CRINGE) but since he wasn’t able to really spar and train with the other sharks, I think he’d be on the softer, plusher side. Easy to hide through clothes or sucking in with the public but I dunno. I thought it would make sense. He would be DEATHLY insecure though. Sorry Siren ❤️

9#. He is the FUNNIEST mf in the entire Shark castle. Like he’s so naturally witty and sharp that people are intimidating. Comedic gold. (Or it could be his complete resting bitch-COUGH-unamused face) He’s just so clever and uses that to make jokes and make others laugh.

I personally think that the war is S1 and redeeming is S2.

The General Pentious seems like a pretty big spoiler too, and one I wish I could get excited about...god, I loved that silly little snake.

I'll start with the deltarune ones since those are the Easiest to explain, then ill talk about my actual Original guys lol

Cabelle is based around conspiracies and more out-there gaster theories obv, but her main inspo also comes from a tweet i saw like eons back that was essentially just: "mark my words the chapter 3 boss is gonna be like the history channel or smth". that always stuck with me, wanted to do smth with it!

Hero was based around a hyperfixation at the time, that being Murder Miners, this old xbox craft shooter my friend got me into. always loved those offbrand minecraft things, little me would be playing Survivalcraft and Eden all the time on my old busted ipad.

other ones aren't as clever or deep, like blanca being based off that berdly dialog, or peann and dexter just. being objects without much else lol

Outside of those, a lot of my characters are mishmashes of games and character's that've stuck with me through the years! for example, heres some sonas/dudes from a story/website thing im still workin on: mlmty

I didnt start with these character inspo templates, but they help organize how i wanna write em and whatnot fghjk

Sometimes the inspo will come from art as well, like my weird interdimensional private eye dude Ampersand here! He's directly inspired by a specific painting, which is next to him here

Thoughts on Dudunsparce's Design

I've been seeing dunsparce fans completely split down the middle on this design. Those who love it seem to say so because they think it's either really cute and/or silly because of how it looks exactly like dunsparce, while those who hate it do so precisely because it looks too similar to its pre-evolution and thus the design is lazy

Personally I think the design by itself is just alright, but what truly makes dudunsparce actually clever imo is the very existence of its three-segment form (pic below taken from this video)

While dunsparce is primarily based on the tsuchinoko snake, I feel it's also important to acknowledge the very clear insect references on display: the stinger tail, the stripes resembling those of bees or wasps, the small thin wings, even the eyes could be seen as far more bug-like than snake-like

I'm in full agreement with Bulbapedia in that the three segment body is a reference to the real life Ultrabithorax genetic mutation seen fruit flies. This occurs when the homeotic genes (a.k.a. the ones that direct the development of specific body parts) within the thorax are rendered inactive during a fly's growth into its imago form, causing the third segment of the thorax to convert its halteres into a second set of wings

Now here's where it gets clever!

The three-segment mutant form of dudunsparce is rare to obtain, though the form itself isn't actually any stronger than the regular two-segment form and really only exists as a fun curiosity

Which is very interesting considering that dunsparce in its initial conception was a pokemon that was rare to obtain but wasn't actually very strong to use in battle and really only existed as a fun curiosity when catching all of the Johto pokemon

The way I see it, this alternate form for dudunsparce appears to be a way for the developers reignite the initial feeling of rarity that dunsprace had in its debut generation without sacrificing the actual urge to put one on your team due to it actually being strong and fun to use now!

I dunno, that's just the impression I get at least :)

“Valentine's Day is a scam,” Emily groaned, spinning her chair until she faced Spencer, hoping for a little back-up. Usually he was good for that, equipped with some bizarrely specific facts to prove her point. Except he didn't really pay any attention to her, he was holding a crisp white envelope in his hand, Hotch's chicken scratch in capital letters written in black ink that was bleeding into the fibers of the paper like little veins. “Right? Just lining the pockets of fat cat CEOs at Hallmark.”

Emily hadn't been on the team long, so she didn't know. She had no way of knowing that the card she found on her desk this morning from Hotch that bore on the front of it one spritely gray tabby kitten with huge blue eyes and read “Got You This Just Be-claws” was the result of at least an hour spent in the greeting card aisle of the supermarket. Possibly more than one supermarket. He was very particular. And Spencer's “You Light Me Up” card with a simple drawing of a lightbulb, JJ's soccer ball that said “I Get a Kick Out of You”, an elegant little watercolor of a bird for Gideon or a vintage car for Rossi...specially chosen. Not a spur of the moment decision, these were purchased well in advance. He never wrote anything inside of them save for his name. Just Hotch, right there beneath whatever clever little saying might be printed on the inside.

"And the wax seals, really?" She scrunched her nose and picked at the thick white wax with what little was left of her fingernails. "It's a little much."

"We had a case in New Jersey where the seal on envelopes was laced with LSD," Spencer answered quietly, peeling his envelope slowly open so he didn't crumble the wax. He liked the feel of it, the ornate foliage in the center of it, how romantic and old-fashioned it was. Hotch's home office was well-stocked with stationary for letter writing, correspondence with ink and paper. The two of them had that in common.

Emily stared in disbelief...this job never ceased to horrify her.

"Yeah, okay. That makes sense. But the cards are still cheesy. And over-priced...he spent like $5 on this thing." She was already caving. The kitten was adorable, and it was a kind gesture. A little nerdy and childish, maybe, and something she believed out of character for that grumpy man in the high office...but maybe she'd misjudged him.

“I think it's nice,” Spencer replied, finally setting his card up beside the pencil cup. Truth be told, he'd wondered at the little cards himself once upon a time, and Gideon had explained it to him as simply as he could. Hotch didn't often express himself in words, not at work, certainly not to them, but in small gestures he let them know that they were important, and he valued them. In little aliens and kittens and cheesy dad jokes.

“What about you, Morgan? Don't you think Valentine's Day is a little silly? Or do you subscribe to the whole red roses and candlelit dinner thing?”

“I dunno,” he said with a smile, staring at his own card. It was goofy, a little vintage thing with a heart and a hammer that read “Must I hammer it in?” On the inside was just an H and a set of numbers, a secret code. He didn't pull it out of the envelope, just slipped it into his briefcase and leaned back in his chair. “It's better than a stack of fresh case files.”

Emily grunted, agreeing, and set the little cat card up on her desk begrudgingly. It was adorable. Sickeningly so. And how did he know she liked cats, anyway? Did he know she was thinking about getting one? About how lonely her apartment got without any other sign of life aside from her own barely beating heart? “What was yours?”

“Tools.” Derek's reply was quick. Too quick. She nodded knowingly, taking mental note of the fact that he was the only one of them not to display his.

“Right. Because of your properties.”

“Yeah, ya busybody. Because of my properties.”

An address. A time. A delivery of flowers first, huge blood red roses dripping with a decadent floral scent that hung in the air. Minutes later a delivery from Derek's favorite Chinese restaurant, more food than the two of them could even hope to eat in one night. Derek set it all up in the middle of the dusty wood floor on a blanket, candles lit in excess because most of the electricity in the place was shut off, Clooney's tail nearly burning the place down more than once in his excitement.

And then there was Hotch in his suit but no tie, another bouquet in his hands, standing in the darkened doorway. It took him only a moment to kick out of his shoes, push the flowers into Derek's hands and wrap him in a hug.

“Happy Valentine's Day, you old sap,” Derek whispered, nuzzling into the warmth of silk and skin. Hotch hugged him tighter, breathed him in, pulled strength from him and gave it back in return. It was a long day, full of things they'd rather forget, but the night was young.

“I love you.”

Food first, and then they'd get to a little demolition before the night came to an end. Take some aggression out on lath and plaster, rusted and crumbling old nails, knob and tube wiring that connected room to room to room like sinew to bone. With sleepy eyes they would shower away the sweat and grime, sleep with bellies full of good food and wine and yeah...Valentine's Day is kind of a scam, but Derek didn't mind. Not when he reaped the benefits so spectacularly.

Chapter 1. Writer's block.

‘Alistor is a smart kid.’ Delete. ‘The Number Manor is a large house.’ Delete. ‘Mr. Top is a clever man.’ He’s not even a main character! Delete, delete, delete. Alistor glared off their TV screen at their bored-looking reflection. “.. What do you suppose we do, Mirror-me?” They asked, setting their computer down and sitting up properly. Alistor’s reflection glanced back at them from their mirror version of Alistor’s computer.

“Eh? Oh. I dunno, you’re the creative bastard, aren’t you?” Their reflection shrugged and went back to scrolling through their website on the computer. 

“Oh, you’re so helpful.”

“I like to think so.”

Alistor glared as they flopped back down onto the couch. Ugh. They grumbled as they key-spammed their keyboard and deleted it. Being a writer was hard.

“.. Y’know…” Their mirror voice rang out from the TV. Mirrorstor glanced at Alistor, an amused expression on their face. “I could take you to your silly lil’ story universe.”

Alistor looked at their TV again. “... How can you take me to the universe of a story that doesn’t yet exist?”

“The power of friendship.”

Alistor glared, preparing to grab their remote and throw on the TV so their reflection would disappear.

“I kid, I kid! It’s a joke! I can take you there using my magic mirror powers and show you what’s happening so you can base your fictional recounting on your actual experiences!”

Alistor paused. “.. You mean.. 1, 2, 3 and the gang… they’re real?”

“Just as real as you or I, my non-reflected fellow. You or I…” Mirrorstor trailed off.

“Well, I’m still not completely sold on you, but I’m over 87% sure I’m real, so that works for me.”

“That is a… shockingly low number for your sold-ability on yourself.”

“Everyone has their doubts.”

“I guess?”

Alistor shook their head. “Doesn’t matter. How do we go to my magic world of daemons, succubi, and such?”

“Good question! What if you take me to an actual mirror so I can show you?” Mirrorstor smiled.

“Boo. Bad idea. I object.” Alistor said, deadpanned. “Can’t you do it from here?”

“No, Alistor, I can not.”

“Why not?”

“Because!”

“Whatever! Fine! We’ll go to the mirror!” Alistor crossed their arms in annoyance.

“Yay!” Mirrorstor grinned. “I’m so, so, super happy. Literally going to explode from the amount of happiness I am experiencing.”

“Shut your mouth,” Alistor growled. Their reflection just cackled and disappeared.

Alistor grumbled as they walked to the bathroom mirror, hoisting their Chromebook for documentation. They stepped into the bathroom, flipped on the light, shut the door, and looked ‘Themself’ dead in the eye. “Kay, how long are we going to be gone?” They asked.

“Dude, 5 years there is like 5 minutes here. You won’t even be gone for 5 minutes.” Mirrorstor stated, gesturing dramatically.

“Okay, well, I don’t wanna stay for 5 years.” Alistor glared.

“Well, we won’t stay for 5 years- It was an example of how time works,” Mirrorstor stated. “Why is time so slow?” Alistor questioned. “For plot convenience.” “Ah. I see.” Alistor remarked.

Mirrorstor shook their head and beamed. “Unimportant! What is important is that your gay ass is going to your story! Cool, huh?”

“Oh, yeah. That. How do we get there?” Alistor tilted their head to the side. “Are you gonna, like, portal me to the next layer of the flipside?”

“That’s a really obscure reference no one will get. No, I’m not gonna portal you. Come here.”

“This is a vile, wicked hive of scum and villainy,” Alistor muttered before they leaned forward on the counter, placing their computer down to avoid dropping it into the sink. 

Abruptly, a hand emerged from the mirror, enclosing their mouth and muting any potential screams. The touch of the hand was chilling, resembling the icy embrace of death. Its grasp felt excruciating, similar to tiny needles piercing their skin. Although the hand felt like a corpse, its grip was unyielding, refusing to release the terrified child. Without a sound, it forcefully dragged them into the depths of the mirror, plunging Alistor into pure darkness.

Do you have any funny Gregstophe headcanons? Perhaps even… silly?

I’ll admit anon, this had me a bit stumped 😅 simply bc idk what exactly qualifies as silly/funny but hopefully these are along the lines of what you mean!!

One of the funnier headcanons I’ve talked about with @pnjrnk is the idea that there’s enemies spies who sometimes sneak into the walls of Gregory and Christophe’s house, hoping to overhear their secret mercenary plans, but they just hear them bickering about dumb shit like who’s turn it was to take out the garbage this week. Dunno if I ever posted the lil comic I made for it but:

Another idea I really like more pertaining to them as dads is the two of them creating just the MOST clever gremlin child. Gregory insists their kid learn WAY above their education level and do logic puzzles everyday so they’re a little genius. And Christophe insists on teaching the kid how to dig super fast, how to pick locks, how to punch, slip away from anyone grabbing them, etc. This results in a little monster who is too much even for them and it’s not uncommon for them to wake up in the middle of the night to hear their child broke into the local grocery store and is now sitting on top of the roof of city hall eating stolen cookies and no one can get them down.

I am honestly a fan of the classic “Christophe refuses to bathe and Gregory hates that” trope… but honestly I think it’s much funnier if it’s not about actual showering and more about laundry/clothes?? So Christophe will be wearing a shirt that he hasn’t washed in two months and Gregory is disgusted. He keeps stealing all of Christophe’s clothes in the middle of the night since Christophe is too stubborn to let him take them. And god forbid Gregory finds something with what he considers “too many holes”… he’d throw it out for sure. Christophe hides these sorts of clothes from him and Gregory gets mad whenever he sees Christophe wearing them around.

I headcanon Gregory owns one of those infinity pools (like the small ones that infinitely pushes water to swim against) and that’s his main method of exercising (inspired by a thing I saw long long ago that said he has a swimmer’s body physique). Anyway, I think he looks like a dork whenever he goes to use the pool with tightass goggles and a swim cap to protect his hair from chlorine. And afterward ofc he’s got those silly eye indents that goggles give you. Christophe teases the hell out of him for it and Gregory gets very defensive about it. The visual of it is very funny to me though, Gregory sopping wet all huffy in his proper swimming get up with Christophe teasing him in the middle of the living room or something

Like this is an incredibly silly unnecessary story, Solaris the Tyrant Sun is a ridiculous concept, but a whole lot of characters are having good character storytime in it! Well, basically everyone NOT in the 853rd century is having a good time. The future folk are having a miserable one.

(Dick! Babs! Helena! Roy and Garth hanging out with Jesse and Linda! Barda! Ted! J’onn!)

On the other hand DC has a terrible habit of just blowing up cities for drama (Poor Montevideo. I don’t think I’ve ever seen further references to this explosion unlike Qurac or Blüdhaven)

I liked the bit where Ted was just exhausted going “I had to give Firestorm a physics lesson about what he needed to do with the radiation, dunno how much stuck”. Yes! Ted Kord is a clever scientist!

Actually I’m slightly astonished how many of the characters in this I can put into context as apparently I’m now at the stage of “oh yeah the Linear Men, they’re involved with Rip Hunter!” for background characters in JLA based events. Who knew?

Also I keep giggling as Vandal Savage is punching Roy out and I'm sitting here going 'poor Roy, always getting beaten up by family members'.

Forgive me if I forget anything egregious-!! There's so many AUs, I'll do my best to browse through them, but AidaIro are industrious... I might miss something. u.u

You will be getting my opinion on all 3 of them per AU though. It's fun to consider the OT3... :3 Subsequently, I think I'll be skipping anything where we don't see all 3 (like ah, that standalone idol Hanako from earlier on.) Just to streamline things. Here we gooo!

🔍Phantom Thief 💎

I'm including this one out of fairness sake... but I will be real. I do not really think much about it, nor really care about any of their designs here. Unfortunately, idc about, detectives, criminal investigation, that sort of intrigue. Whether it's serious or funnay-sillay, I can't say it's very interesting to me. The most aesthetically pleasing one here is just Hanako, with hims fancy crane fabric and mask etc... (Kind of cheating though, bc he's just in his gakuran otherwise.) I know Aida-sensei really had fun drawing this guy whorishly covered in jewels. Tsukasa being a little boy-lad, funny. Nene-chan in some sherlock cosplay dress, bad. My eyes glaze over.

It's amusing to see their roles be stripped down to like, Nene INVESTIGATING Hanako's CRIMES, and Tsukasa being an INFORMANT, giving her TIPS because he knows Hanako's IDENTITY. That's what's happening in the manga, yes. It's so crude, in this way, I have to laugh.

🦇Ghost Hotel🩸

For this AU, I really love going over the interview of the people coordinating it, because you get to hear reports of AidaIro-sensei being very enthused about the theming of the cafe. They decided the theme, menu item names, and explained aspects of the world to the staff. It's very cute to me lol, it feels like they were having so much fun. The first cafe they did was more 'typical', with the characters as waiters/waitresses serving you. I think GH is a clever concept, finding a way to transport you into a whole other world, and also still justify that you are 'going' to an 'establishment', and going to be eating there lol. You still get the delight of experiencing the characters be 'staff', even — just in a more creative and stimulating way. An evil hotel manager is a lot more fun than just being your waiter-!!! Etc.

Seeing Amane as an evil vampire, it's almost like seeing a frog on a lilypad. Suddenly it's like we're putting a pin on the whooole look, the Halloween cat vibe, black and gold eye'd scraggly shota. B'caped, villainous, but so cavalier. The villain of a point and click adventure game. His ah, many rows of buttons are a lil silly, but overall I like his 'fit. It's like Amane was always meant to be this... Running some sort of honeypot to ensnare innocent, poor wanderers, and seeming to do it simply for the love of the game. Glib, while watching you lose your memories and become brainwashed.

This Amane is INCREDIBLY FUNNY and an INCREDIBLY DIRECT representation.. In a way that just makes me feel like I'm gonna barf. Like every layer of it lol, the, I'm never going to let you leave❤ Mmhh I love to consume beautiful women (so what does it say I sucked my brother dry?) Anyways I will take your life tonight. Ehh, the fact that he doesn't seem guilty or troubled at all by what he did.. Well, it's maybe been so-? Many years-?? And he's become so established, he's just at a point of-?? A-acceptance? Enjoyment? With what he did... does-??? He's decorating Tsukasa's grave playfully, I dunno...

Also the, fact that Amane is a vampire, means you have to, basically conclude that killing Tsukasa was... pleasurous... in the way that eating a delicious meal would be... It's a biological urge. And also killing Nene, again, will be, pleasurous. Hm... What does this mean for their situations in canon... Aha hahahahaha hahaha

So yeah overall I like this guy a lot. I think I would have a lot of fun RP'ing this one.

As for Nene here, I'm not really big on her starting look... It's liiike, not doing it for me, a bit too. Fancee lady. Victorian flavor etc. which just isn't my bag... She doesn't look awful or anything; I like her lil parasol. That being said...

... this nightgown is wonderful. I love her hair adornments too. A sleepy little lady, bride material. Thank you Amane for, assaulting her like this, I agree with your decision. I've envisioned her becoming a ghostie just like Tsukasa, as a result...

She's at her sweetest here, too, just innocently letting Amane in without thinking too hard about it. I like that she thinks over her day, and smiles, noting that she had fun, despite the strangeness. (Despite the scariness...) It's very Nene-chan of her. I think she'll take to her fate graciously, as she is always destined to... I see a lot of potential in her. ❤

Now, the original victim, in HIS frilly nightgown, ready for beddy-bye. Isn't he sweet... He's actually my favorite out of this AU, out of the three. Far too precious, it really hurts me. I like to think that, in the past, when Amane was a newly-formed vampire, he was a lot more self-hating and afraid to feed, prone to starving himself. (Closer to emotional profile of the more troubled Amane in canon.) Despite this, Tsukasa was always gracious and encouraging, permissive. In true Tsukasa fashion, he was so encouraging and loving that Amane one day couldn't stop. That was that. His ah, nubby right hand is also a remnant of that interaction (as much as the pillows and blanket...) Bit clean off.

So much time has passed and they've been bound to one another like this. Tsukasa is found lingering outside of room 87 / Nene runs into him instead when trying to seek the Manager / Amane's key is definitely to room 87, just blurred... They must share a space and interact. I feel like after 'work', once everything's quieted down, Amane must simply retire to his special ghostie boy at the end of the day. And does god knows what.

It's quite scary that not everyone can see Tsukasa... yabai. I always feel like Tsukasa's existence gets buried and obfuscated by Amane's actions... Isolated, locked away. *frantically gestures at the Antares speech also* Much to be concerned about. It's eerie, then, that Nene is one of the few that can see him. And ah, of course, again Tsukasa is simply willing to aid and guide Nene through this. I like when he's this counter-force... A rogue agent, someone who'll answer questions if you just asked. He'll help you.

My overall feeling for the AU is, I like how ship is here! It's fun! Whereas Phantom Thief feels crude with how 1:1 it is, I think GH is more like, a gd riot, while still managing to be sexy too. I'm simple, I like vampirism, I like the direct correlation of Amane predating on Tsukasa and Nene. Makes me feel endless concern whenever I look over the details. Much in store for the canon.

🎭Hanako of the Opera🌹

IDK what it is about me, but I can admit, I struggle to parse this event. It's not easy for me to follow everything that happens... Perhaps just the nature of it being one of those 'game' type events, with randomized elements, and also it being a story with present 'roles' being inserted. It's limited in ways, ,,

Okay but, as always, it's funny what is conveyed in a couple details. Amane is looking so crazy during scenes, maniac. Tsukasa ?? kitty cat?? Lurking about??? Enigmatic. The twins matching rings (which, in the original story, are given to Christine to represent her loyalty to the phantom) — OK. Matching jewelry symbolizing twins devotion to one another, check ✅ And all three of them have roses? Wonderful, something threading Tsukasa and Nene-chan, as Amane gives both his girlies roses. Overlapping romance check✅ (This ship is always too much lol...)

Rating the looks: Nene is lovely 💕 Shining star of the opera. The boys are more *noncommital hand gesture* but I like the fanfare of the cape, and I do. *sigh* I do think the half mask is cool, I've always thought it was cool. Fsr I vibe 'split' face situations (even specifically having sonas with large white face markings...) so yeah I'm into it. I wonder if? They are-? Both disfigured under there-?? Mysteries.

I distinctly like the shawl Nene is wearing here. Kiss kiss. (... I also just really love this image lol, this is so funny of AidaIro-sensei... to explain the delays within the narrative like this...) wait why am I just realizing in this image Amane has like. A laced up boot up to his calf. That's not what the twins are wearing in their character profiles ? Wait why does it look like he's only wearing 1? What? hm okay. Anyways I love this image

🐉Kamome Monster Nursery🍭

This is one of those really wild AUs... Though I feel like it's iconic, perhaps just as an example of how Iro-sensei can invent unpredictable worlds. Overall I really like their Halloween AUs; both Aida and Iro love Halloween, and since JSHK overall is so ~spookeh ghosts~ it kisses well with Halloween mischief.

The twins. Let's evaluate them both at once!!

This is one of those Amane's that's more on the 'subdued' side, along with being more academically inclined. To me, it feels like there are a couple 'sliders' that move around in relation to one another. If Amane is more studious, he's lessss... ostentatious, with his look and personality. He's too busy looking at clipboards and taking notes. In this way I think he's a loser with no game (lol) but at least he has Tsukasa with him to keep him on his toes. Tsukasa meanwhile seems to be having lots of fun here! I like that he's the more capable one, I feel like that's a consistent truth, deep down... That Tsukasa is actually smarter and more talented, overall. He's just so 'odd' that people don't notice... ww

I like the thickness of Amane's turtleneck, and I like that Tsukasa's in shorts and has such thick purple socks. So fun!! I also like how 'blue' the shades of purple on his outfit are, I really love the dark purp and black stripes on his top. His stripes make him match Amane's turtleneck's ribbing. Harmonious. Tsukasa's stethoscope feels horny to me though, in a way that makes me, mad-? (I don't trust AidaIro and their thing with hearts.) Aside from that, lab coats are whatever, not my thing. They're not super fun to draw but I can forgive it. (I have drawn these goons.)

They're kind of enigmatic to me, in that I wonder how they wound up here, doing this specifically...? But the world is so odd lol, I think it's odd how the class of 'monster' feels like they-? Don't... have rights-?? They're raised and studied, not treated like people-?? As a result, I feel like the twins kinda have broken lizard brains in this world, regarding monsters as specimens purely, and not forming deep attachments... They are engrossed in their research. Tsukasa is playful as a person, and good with raising monsters, but doesn't bat an eye as they get shoveled along through the system. This place perhaps outright facilitates that kind of detachment, so they're a perpetual motion machine doing this. So ultimately they only care about one another...

Small detail, but the drawing looks like Tsukasa's art to me! Aida-sensei bothers to be consistent with characters having a 'style', so ah, I think the point is it 'looks' like a little kid made it, but it's actually a gift from Tsukasa.. We don't see them interact much, but I like to think they must collude throughout the day, and then after the workday is over they retire together. They have matching seals too which means-? Some-? Thing-? Critical about their connection to one another...?? So they have to be entangled...

But we need a Nene-chan to come into their life and shake things up-!! Hahaha. I'm glad she has the ability to burn this whole place to the ground herself... A creature with a lot of potential!

As a lolicon I'm SIMPLE, and I love to see LITTLE GIRL. Lil girl, baby girl, baby baby baby. Soo freakin' cute, ugh, acting like a little feral beasty... and that we can just put her in a thick collar. Whatttt?? Sexy... Are there really no limits here? I get to watch Nene-chan be bitey and demanding?? Ourghh

Also, the fact that she's being raised by Tsukasa and taking after him, while dressed up in 'his' color... Sick & twisted. Showing me Tsukasa playing with Nene and giving her whatever she wants and them going on rampages together??? Sick & twisted-!! The fact that she has a little red heart earring on her, corresponding her to Amane, SICK & TWISTED!!! It's worrisome you know, because Nene is Amane's bespoke love interest across every world... They HAVE to collude-? He has to be interested in her, he has to. Find her attractive...?? Inevitably!? At that point, it's suspicious to me that monsters also develop faster than humans. Hmm, so she will be sexually mature soon enough. (Lol, Renesmee swag?)

You can't just show me Nene being Tsukasa-like, resembling Tsukasa, acting like Tsukasa, and Amane's just also in the room. Dragon loli all dressed up and collared, and being hand-reared by the brother of her love interest. DON'T YOU THINK ABOUT WHERE THIS TERMINATES-?? I sure do. *sucks in drool*

The set pieces make me pretty horny. I think I am a bit weak to esoteric research labs and, like dehumanizing situations for sapient(?) beings. Nonhuman behaviors, hand rearing, the aesthetic of daycare and baby toys etc... fun, I like it. I like to explore the space.

🏫Teen School Drama🪄

This AU is like. Lol where are we-? This boarding school and the overall aesthetic is giving a kind of Western-slay. Ahh I've been transported back to Angelland lol. There's a photo on AidaIro's twi tter featuring a Harry Potter mug (the Marauder's Map lolll) so ah, this combined with some of their other work gives me the impression they like... That sort of Vibe, ~wizarding school in London~... regardless of whether or not that's the actual setting, I just think it's worth noting. The particular stink going on.

This Amane... he makes me laugh. Who is this-? Little nerd? An even more subdued, sciency-aligned Amane than the guy in Monster Nursery.

He's so stripped down feeling, and his palette has mysteriously become black/blue/gold, instead of black/red/gold. Why's that... The way no one could have guessed he was that little blue apple. Like— obviously people would sooner guess the ghost cookie or devil cake, etc. Even the fanciful king, thing, Teru was, because like. You would think Amane is devilish or has some sort of imposing presence... so it's the funniest reveal he's like, a quiet nerd who tinkers with RC cars and drones... I would even say fandom at large is more apt to see canon living-Amane as more shy than I personally would, but this still came as a shock for many. This little meep. (Octavius rex i guess, since Nene is barking up this tree.)

It's pretty novel though... to be able to think of an Amane that is this hobbled with social interactions. I like to imagine he struggles with making eye contact. A guy of few words... not practiced with having conversations. If you read his mind, he would be slowly disassembling and reassembling devices. *staring at nothing, waiting for class to end so he can go back to his dorm and do this*

But as much as he amuses me, he also frustrates me... How to word this. I find it suspicious that this Amane can command Tsukasa to manifest to him, without even a word, just sending a drone at him — and Tsukasa would drop everything to do so. Okay, so you have this very powerful wizard at your beck and call... and Tsukasa is typically quite obsessed with Amane, so. Hmm. Just simmer on that. And then you have fact that Nene is, putting herself out there, being CUTE about it, and he's like. Mnnn. Please don't. You'll draw attention to me... thinking moreso about the social discomfort, not like, Nene's gesture.

... to ME, he feels kind of, 'stuck in his comfort zone'...? I'd say it's pretty generous to see him as 'just shy'; if I think about Amane across worlds, I'd guess this one is probably just as asocial and disconnected from valuing people as individuals... He's always had Tsukasa, there, reliably, and has never had a reason to do anything besides funnel into his interests. Eh, it's kinda like if Amane could just blithely read about constellations AND just have Tsukasa by his side, super OP, catering to his whims. Hmm, I often like to envision her... getting in over her head, with the whole witch thing... Onene inflating her head a bit! The 'downside' to that gained confidence. It's easy to imagine that Nene wouldn't be above using magic to gain favor in the pursuit of love... If Nene would swallow a mermaid's scale out of desperation for a relationship... I think being a witch capable of spells would provide unfathomable temptations for her. Along with Amane being a challenge to court, I ah, feel like the situation is rife for Nene to create, schemes, plans, to bag him. With the confidence that she could definitely succeed... and that he would be none the wiser, about it. There could even be an angle of, feeling like she's doing him a favor by being forward, he's just so shy, I bet he's never had a girl like him before ❤ I'll take care of it all!!

Which is funny, because I think this is exactly the way Hanako thinks of his 'flirting' (sekuhara) in canon. This AU flips things around, but in a way that I enjoy. ^^ I like that Iro-sensei is capable of scrambling the main cast around, but still keeping things so interesting! Allowing me to witness the girlish version of simping and the wear down method lol...

Now... Wizard Tsukasa-!!! The catalyst of the event!! The capable, full-fledged magic user... He's enchanting💜 In his nice white sweater, and untucked undershirt... Would love to see him put on that hat. Sigh

I love seeing a Tsukasa so capable. I like to think he's a prodigy, and no one on campus who uses magic could hold a candle to him. The great and powerful TsuTsu!! Bare with me for this flight of fancy, but in settings where the twins are in a 'normal' setting (going to school and all), I still like to factor in Amane's heart condition. I like to believe he was still born with it, though technology is advanced enough that he was able to be saved through surgeries at a young age. That being said, it leaves him with a weak constitution, still being the sickly twin. I like to think that Tsukasa's nature of fetching Amane gifts to his bedside persists, and he's by Amane's side constantly, helping with little things. For magic to exist in this world... I feel like, of course, Tsukasa would pursue it to be able to service Amane even better. It's in his nature... when granted power, access to grant wishes, he simply wants to use it for Amane. So, the reason he gets so good at it all is for Amane 💜 It's what sets him apart from others.

... haha, okay, personal delusions aside, I think Tsukasa exudes a sort of... pleasant serenity here. I like the music notes in his text, like he's humming or speaking melodically. Fun, playful boy... Someone who speaks with hearts❤ Similarly to Nene, I think being able to wield magic gives him a bit of a confidence 'boost', so he's less self-conscious than some younger versions of him (that feel clumsy or like a burden...) Comfortable with his position in life currently. He's by Amane's side, after all! Hum humm, might as well have fun then, ne? There's no harm in it~

Argh, you know, it's an AU where things are atypical/shuffled around, so I think Tsukasa looming over Nene and taunting her is closer to something 'unusual' and unexpected (he's not purposefully ominous in canon ww) ... but like, it's sexy to see here, heurr. I feel a little messed with, when I have to consider TsuNene like this... It's as if I'm being baited lol. But I LIKE IT so oh well. As much as I think about Nene getting up to shennanigans behind Amane's back, I like to think of her having to deal with Tsukasa, who can observe and thwart her with ease. He doesn't do it mean spiritedly or anything, but I feel like sometimes he is watching her like...~ It would be fun to meddle. Just a tiny bit... <3 Able to give Nene a run for her money. The fact that Amane likes her is interesting to him <3 and maybe there's a little bit of flirting on Tsukasa's end too... <3 Ahee...

The fact that Tsukasa is able to intercept Aoi and Nene's combined efforts to stop him, and, that Amane then interrupts — and Tsukasa just goes ohp, ok, Amane needs me! Bye! & drops everything... feels like it says so much about the ah, flow of 'power' here. Despite Amane being The Mundane and despite Tsukasa being OP magic user... Tsukasa still defers to Amane-!! Ugh it creates this visual in my mind, where Nene's POV is one where Tsukasa might as well be Amane's big pet tiger curled around him. Lounging, languid, but... intimidating...

I like this AU overall lol. It just makes me horny very effectively. At least I feel like I'm not alone, because fujoshi are distinctly distressed about this AU and the implications of. Amane like, sending a drone to get Tsukasa, with the? Head of the? Rabbit costume he is horny about now? It literally feels like he's just ordering Tsukasa to come help him out with this, problem. Like why are they about to have weird sex through this conduit. Yamete kudasai...

Nyways final note is, I think Amane can eventually tempted by poon, between the forces of Tsukasa and Nene both, and then he will start to metamorphasize into a nastier guy, thinking about suck fuck fuck fuck suck suck & fuck. Which is good for him. He will be healed.

📞Kamome Valentine Company💘

This AU came out of nowhere and really sucker-punched us for Valentine's day... One swift sock to the gut. I barely survived February because of this all. My god. Where to even start.

At first glance from the twitter icon, you don't get much of an impression of this Amane. I was mostly surprised to see that he had angel wings, as so far, it's usually been the inverse (other illusts having Amane be a devil while Tsu is holy aligned...) However, once the event started rolling out proper, I felt my gut sink as we got a better look at this guy. Promising that he can polish your love and make it shine... That lidded gaze, the look of an Amane that is trying to WORK YOU OVER... I could not BEGIN to trust this creep, ueeuahhh!! Makes my skin crawl. He actually is a devil. (Avvy's proposed he might actually be identical Tsukasa, and it's just an illusion he has going on... good possibilities.)

Alright but what's this looooook??? The metal... collar? The corset-!? The boots, the one glove... All this fetish gear, why are you looking like this! Running this shop with your brother! Ackkk! Oh and of course, to top it all off, you and Tsukasa both have matching jewelry, as some, expression of your commitment to one another… While you endlessly make bets and squabble for fun, in this warehouse full of jewels... It's really yabai that they have some sort of, hearts in cages, while their power itself is the ability to make love into jewelry. Their hearts look different from what's present in the cages, so I feel like whatever extraction process was done was different...

It's extrapolating a lot, but eh while I'm here, I might as well say — I like to think of the twins as having once been human. Some... dirty raggamuffin orphan boys... And one day, they effectively tapped into a kind of magic, some sort of dark ritual, etc. that effectively cursed them into their current forms... It was an act of commitment, equivalent to canon's shinjuu, and they've been bound eternally since. The end product is they've really become cursed beings who cannot, think or love properly. Avvy's described them as having a sort of emptiness to them, and I agree. It feels like they're locked in their obsession... Ermm, and much like how, it feels like the canon circumstance is one where, the twins can't help but want to reenact the shinjuu — Amane just wants to kill Tsukasa / Tsukasa just wants to be killed by Amane — again and again... I feel like once the twins get on a tear, they're kind of endlessly looping their desires, and they almost can't conceive of anything beyond what they are doing. Just slamming the button that says MORE. Do it AGAIN.

Obsessed with turning love into jewelry endlessly... obsessed with playing with each other... so it goes... sigh

(also I hate that he's likely evoking Eros... Ughh, god of sex and love, urghhhh... I'm gonna hurl... *has had a sona named Eros since I was 14* Whatever.)

It is time to have much pity in my heart for this Nene... She's a VICTIM of this establishment... one of MANY. They have cages lining the walls of what they do to girls like her. So scary... Excessive! Diabolical!!

Mmmh, once again, out of the three, I'm most bewitched by the Tsukasa of this set. First getting a glimpse of him in the header, brutal for me. Horns! Devil wings!! Pppuuushed back hair, white frilly top, shorts, baby blue socks... Girlie on the phone? *0 brains* call girl... *even less brains* Phone sex. Sex with this one. Sex between work. *stops having a stroke* anyways.

To me, pragmatically speaking, the idea of my unrequited love being destroyed and forgotten about is the most appealing. I trust Tsukasa's proposal more... well, I at least feel as though he's being more honest. Assuming that Tsukasa had a different path laid out for Nene, I would trust it more than what Amane did.

I kinda waffle back and forth on it though, because Avvy's brought up a good point, that perhaps both the twins functionally do the exact same thing — part of their game might just be about whose proposal wins? In that case, ugh, twins-!! I guess you shouldn't trust either of them lol. That might just be the reality of this world. =.=

Yk. Despite the twins having such an intertwined existence, and surely doing this sort of thing all the time... I like how Tsukasa, at the end of this all, is staring quietly with small mouth big eyes, as he feeds Amane. That's the sort of expression I often read as Tsukasa being... overwhelmed, or kind of subdued, his mouth practically disappears. It's like he's really focusing on Amane's mouth eating the chocolate. I must see. His hind brain is tingling, due to what Amane is...? Insinuating? With his comment? But it's Tsukasa, so I think he also can't fully grasp what is being said. I'll do something for you later? Okay, Amane. ⬅ It's aspects like this that really mess me up though. Because a world like this is like, urgh, ugh, ok, the twins are? Definitely fucking? Or inbound, about to fuck, maybe fucking all day, or like, on the precipice. Perfect 50/50 split, what is the reality. Fucking today for the first time on Valentine's day? Suck your fingers while you feed me c hocolate. Ahh... *you lose me in the mist*

🐈‍Bakeneko Ryokan♨️

Our most recent cafe event to date, and honestly, what feels like the most luxurious one. It feels embarrassing to say (since it just came out) but this is my favorite AU of them all, currently-!!! It's far too decadent in every way... Just look at this map!! Eh, ahh! I wanna go here so badly! Ehhh! Everything feels luscious and beautiful...! It's crazy Aida-sensei made this... This feels so involved and over the top... Meanwhile, I'm enraptured by Iro-sensei's description of things, like how it feels to approach this place.

"The air outside is cool and fresh. A deep fog enshrouds this place… The only light you can see is coming from the Ryokan." (Translation by DBS Scans!)

I'm just like UGH, atmosphere!! Makes me want to immerse into this world so badly! Traveling up the mountain side, as the fog encloses around me... A light in the distance, my only hope... Again, I really admire the integration of ah, an entire narrative alongside the theme of, cafe, food establishment, being served by the characters, etc... Transported to another world while you come here to eat. And again there is an element of danger to your visit here. A place you won't likely be returning from... Will you get eaten, or will you get turned into a bakeneko yourself-!? Such a fun set up omg

Hmm, another Amane that looks like a too-pleased maniac... why am I not surprised. :I It's so devious he is a nekomata amidst bakeneko... it's like ah, Amane is decidedly the more evil and dangerous version of this yokai — almost to make sure there's no misconstruing that you shouldn't trust him ww. I think it also conveys that he is perhaps more powerful than we can observe, hiding a slew of abilities... maybe even a more extravagant beast form, larger than his typical kitty cat body. No way to know... (typical for Amane though... he won't let us know...)

But much like his vampire self, being a naughty kitty really suits him. If there was anyone destined to be a shitty tom cat, it's just, Amane... He's just got that sort of nature, don't he. Patrolling his territory, pissing on your things. Rubbing his scent glands on you. Because you are his. Enjoying that silvervine... Meanwhile, the texture of his hair and ears make me feel like he must be a very scruffy feeling black kitty, if you saw him up close. Hmm, it's just a very compatible charisma... the Halloween cat swag once more.

Always fun when Amane is in yukata. :3 Get all silked out... and I like his black tabi socks, they are cool. They further obfuscate slivers of skin, making him feel very clothed, toe to tip. The cut in his high collar, so that his bell comes out, is very crazy looking. I'm into it. Also like the extra gold band and bell on the tail, and the teal ribbon with it... The red and white rope on his zori, and for the keys slipped in his yukata, are the same as Tsukasa's shimenawa obi he is wearing. A little something connecting them here. I have to assume the keys he's keeping are to Tsukasa's room directly. Ugh, lock you up. I get it I get it... *exhausted, threadbare*

As for this Amane's nature, it's kinda fascinating... because, I feel like having been Tsukasa's pet kitty means, he kind of, couldn't have the same sort of problems he typically does when they are human brothers... It's just? Hard to imagine that he struggles in quite the same way. Wasn't he living a simple life once, getting chin scratches... He would surely just purr and rub up against Tsukasa... and then, why would that change, after their escape from the circus? Just so easy to imagine the twins are very, pet pet rub rub, nuzzle purrrrr purr mrr... The way their life has gone, there's also no pressure of 'the future', in the sense of some impending career or pressure from parents. They are freed from such things. Maybe he still wouldn't be the best at uhh, verbally comforting you lol, but I think he would be openly affectionate. Oozing out, condescending sounding, but very much enamored. Kitty lurvvve...

Another thing: I've seen JP fans theorize that Amane chose to emulate his human form after Tsukasa's, which I totally love the thought of. He's so distressed in that shot of them running away... I like to think he was less capable with magicks once, so it took a lot to finally congeal his human form — so it comes to him in the moment of adrenaline, saving Tsukasa from the fire. But it's cute to choose to match... I want to think that's how it went. :3

Mmm oooh I was soooooo looking forward to seeing more of this Nene, after the few glimpses of her from promotional art (and the original shikishi...) She seemed so, gormless, empty shiny gaze. Yet lovely and pleasant, happy kitty. I'm so happy the more we've seen of her. Her yukata is gorgeousss.... Love the petal-y frills at the end, the pink inner fabric, the long embellished sleeves and tassles! Light blue/green, pink, red! Yes yes yes!! Colors that totally suit her! Mmm she would be so nice to touch... I prefer how her hair is done up here btw, no braid, just tied up! I disprefer the tightness of a braid. A small bun like this is nicer to think about playing with, pulling loose. *Amane voice* I ah, also like that she has little bells in her hair, and they feel like they thread her design with the twins' ostentatious big bells... It's a nice touch. A little something.

She really lives up to her name... She really is Pretty-chan! Ackkh.... by the way, I'm still dying every day over the name PRETTY-CHAN!!! It's that thing, that rule almost, where Nene is considered beautiful when she is nonhuman... Becoming this fanciful, large breed of cat, long fluffy fur, and her seafoam green tipped tail!! It makes so much sense she was once a beloved house pet.

Though, true to form, a platonic guardian cannot mean much to the romance-focused Nene... Off into the mountains she goes! Searching for guys to fawn over her... Only to! Wind up with this shitty, scruffy mans harassing her! Such is her destiny...

I like that she does dances :) fun, I would love to watch. Shake that tail around for me, girl... Ahh. She's so fun. I guess I understand actually why Amane can't resist sekuhara... With such a nice girlie walking around, it really makes you want to nip her heels and chase her around lol

With the release of this story card, I've been kind of arrested though... Learning that even Pretty-chan is like, slobbering over the idea of eating a human... A-ah, okay, and Amane is stoking her? Playing along? Even though he's harboring his human brother-!? Whyyy... 😭 I do n't understand... What do you mean there's a world where Nene could desire to eat Tsukasa-!?!??Fg h gg./h. fhg... why is she also i nsan e... help... I still feel like I'm falling out of my body. I 've literally always wanted to explore Nene being 'crazy' but now that I have the chance it's like sits on my hands . This is too much. The potential here... I shudder violently thinking about it. I'm in a dream I can't escape...

*biiig sigh* Glorious images of Tsukasa-chan in this AU... Much color and splendor... No shoes of any kind, because he's probably mostly indoors! The long decorative sleeves tucked away, because he's gotta be ready to scrub the floor. Little miss mittens. Nya. I feel like this Tsukasa lives quite a fun life. Padding about, RPing as kitty, meeting nice girlies who talk to him and might find him novel and cute. Hiding in closets, getting dragged about by his tyrant master. Random naps, lazing in hot spring water, enjoying the food here... Considering where his life started — as some unwanted child performing labor for a circus... This is probably more than he could've ever dreamed of. Life is good and life is fun!

I have to assume the details of his disguise were by Amane. I feel like if it were up to Tsukasa, he'd just match identically with Amane... it's probably Amane who is like 'no, you're not a nekomata... and actually, you could never even become one, ever, you'd be some kinked tail little thing'. Fetishistic perception of Tsukasa. The fact that Tsukasa could complain about his ears and tail is like, so funny to me, it makes it feel like it really is mostly for Amane's sake... He's the one trying to keep you his tasty little secret, shhh. I have to assume it's also Amane who wanted the reciprocation of giving Tsukasa a collar, since he's earing the one from when he was Tsukasa's pet in the past. Ugh, I swear it just represents that they own one another, mutual feelings...

Splendid... incredible... marvelous... This image blessed my crops, as they say. In one fell swoop, it introduced me so many things. Simply, a world where the twins are alive, and together, and we're watching them about to skate together? (It's usually more ambiguous, where they overlap...) B-bandaged boy-!? Bandaged Amane-?!? Much delight had here. To reiterate, I'm a simple idol otaku. I mostly like female idols but I'm into the general concept enough to be allured by the twins as a duo. They look amazing ww, it feels like Amane stans Tsukasa so hard here...

In the past, I was mostly keyed in on Tsukasa being mic'd up, but I realize Amane is as well, and they must be singing together. Duets... that's almost too much for me. I like to think the twins have 'the same voice' in reality, like how they work in the anime, just for ah. Some sort of eerie, unusual element to them. I wonder how much that would make their singing fascinating to hear... Would they blend seamlessly? The same voice, twice, harmonizing, echoing... IMO the twins are very talented and good at dancing/singing, but they can't win #1 because they are too creepy and incest vibes. It's like hmm it almost feels too scandalous, trashy. If only you two would gyrate less... but the women in the crowd ARE screaming.

Meanwhile: Nene back there makes me wanna cry, little cupcake. Littel cake topper wife. Help-!! !!! I want to talk to her backstage and invite her into our room lol, like come to our studio. The Brothers Bloom (2008) surprise surprise right? I watched this first in 2012 while going through Mark Ruffalo's filmography and I fell in love with it then and is one movie that just always kinda stuck in the back of my mind all these years. I rewatched it a couple of nights ago since I'm now going through Adrien Brody's filmography and I am happy to confirm that I was right in 2012. Best movie ever tbh I'm obsessed. It's also a Rian Johnson film and i just love that i loved his movies before i even knew it.

See How They Run (2022) It's a whodunnit! There's nothing I love more than a clever little one-off whodunnit! Sam Rockwell does an English accent Saoirse Ronan is so fun and keeps her own accent Adrien Brody is a sleaze bag it's based around an Agatha Christie story it's literally everything I'd want in a movie??? Truly don't think anyone cared about this movie as much as I do which is kinda funny I won't lie

Howl's Moving Castle (2004) Even if no one else got me i know Howl's Moving Castle got me. I watched this movie for the first time last year while i was sick and it has been a comfort ever since!

Far From The Madding Crowd (2015) Everyone has a Period Piece that is Theirs. and this one is mine! Literally my favorite period movie ever I know everyone talks about pride and prejudice but THIS movie man!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish i had more to coherently say about it but I don't all I can say is Matthias Schoenaerts.

Oceans 8 (2018) Listen. This is the best movie of the Oceans franchise. This one and Oceans 11 are the best okay. I dunno I just adore Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway in this movie specifically!!!!

I heard the ghouls are affected by catnip! How does it affect Spesh and the band?

"Who the fuck... Y'know what, never mind.

"Catnip does- it does stuff to us. I cannot explain how this works, as I do not know. I know that way, way back in the church's history, there are recorded in books instances in which a ghoul or group of ghouls- I am still unclear on what a group of us is called- were witnessed to be rolling around in a patch of catnip growing on the church land. For the most part, you see, ghouls is a stoic-looking bunch. We are described a lot as being, ehhh, like moving gargoyles with no mouths. So for the humans of long ago to witness these, ehehh, gargoyle-y things rolling like cats and laying belly-down with wings unfurled like exhausted pigeons... Quite a sight for them, I'm sure of it.

"Other than making us look quite silly, catnip somehow causes disruption to any glamour or shapeshifting we have activated upon ourselves. I just finished Alice in Borderland's season 2...

and I have a lot of thoughts, and some (though not as many) feelings about the series.

I think overall they kind of average out to meh? It didn't quite work for me the way that I wanted it to, or thought it should, although I'm not sure if that's because of the series or because of me.

I should be sleeping instead of writing, so I'm going to dump it all out onto the page without regard for order or coherence:

It was surprisingly coherent and logical in the details, which I find these sort of clever shows with central mysteries often fail at. It's very explicitly using the structure of video games. I can recognize it, just from being on the internet I guess, but I've basically never played video games other than the occasional five or ten minutes with my brothers when i was a kid. I don't know if I would have connected more with the show if I was more of a gamer; one of the stories it's telling is "what if you had to live in a video game," which isn't all that immediately interesting to me, although I can see how it's intellectually interesting.

That was kind of my overall response to AiB - at so many moments I could intellectually see what they're were maybe going for, but I rarely felt an emotional connection to any of it. Perhaps it was just my state of mind this week, and not the show's fault. It could also be the tremendous amount of violence and death in the show; I think my reaction to that is to disconnect, dis-invest in the characters because they could be gone at any time. Which, on the one hand is closely related to the themes of AiB, how do you value a life and all of that. On the other hand, since this is a piece of fiction, and not actual lives, it just kind of leaves me disconnected from the story. I kept pausing it and doing other things (even though I was also desperately procrastinating from real life) and in between mostly forgetting about the characters.

In the end it was intellectual curiosity that kept me coming back, both in the world of the story - what was this place they all were? - and also about what exactly the show was trying to say. Because it pretty clearly was trying to say something, not just sweep the audience along on an adventure story. The explicit questions, most clearly stated in Chishiya's arc but also I think present in everyone else's, are "what is the value of a life," or perhaps "what are you willing to do for other's lives?" But honestly those questions seemed kind of boring to me, which is perhaps another reason the show was falling flat. Perhaps if I was Japanese it would make more sense to me, the profundity of it lost in translation, linguistic and cultural. Or perhaps the show just isn't as deep as it wants to be/thinks it is. I dunno, somehow the extreme violence and the basic arbitrariness of everyone's deaths rendered the question as silly. It was trying to be about how people, specifically our various protagonists, take responsibility for the lives of other, balance their desire for survival against the rest of the world. But someone it never felt to me like the show or the characters grappled with the terrifying horror of the violence they endured and witnessed. And I get it, it's so extreme it can't really be processed in the format of the show, which is also at it's heart an adventure story and a coming of age story. But if the show is going to go there, killing off literally hundreds and possibly thousands of people on screen, it really needs to deal with if its going to deal with it.

And the characters did react - Arisu prostate on the floor despondent and blaming himself, obviously traumatized. So I'm trying to figure out why that wasn't enough for me, why it felt shallow. My first idea that it's a cultural disconnect, but I don't think that's it. I think it's because the story is so tightly focused on the protagonists, their losses and griefs and guilts and the life lessons they learn from it all, that it turns the lives and deaths of those thousands of unnamed characters into mere fodder for the protagonists' journeys. Which seems a very video game thing to do, and the opposite of the direction I thought they were trying for. But I'm still not entirely sure what they were trying for, despite the many explicitly stated life lessons in the piece. (Perhaps the many layers of the ending complicates these ideas; I'll get to that in a bit.)

Speaking of Arisu. I liked him, I really did. The actor has a beautiful face, sometimes I just stared at him instead of paying attention to the plot. And I empathize with him as a fellow underachiever. But somehow he didn't work for me as a protagonist. He somehow felt bland. And I don't think it was the actor's fault, he seemed to be doing a good job, and I'm guessing if I saw just a clip of any one scene I would think he worked. It just... maybe the story they were trying to tell simply wasn't the one I wanted to watch. It felt like he was supposed to be an every-man, young and lost and living only through video games, there for all the gamers (gaming men) in the audience to identify with. Much like how I imagine the main character in a video game to be, kind of generic, ready for the player to enter and see the world through it's eyes. But drama series are not video games, and they need a protagonist with more... oh I don't even know what was lacking. Maybe it's not a lack in the character itself, but in the way he was elevated by the narrative for no seeming reason, living out the fantasy of being the special one after all. And the script did explicitly acknowledge this, and I think in many ways it was intentional, but yet somehow that didn't work for me. idk. If there is anyone out there who has a) managed to make it this far into my ramblings, b) seen AiB, and c) has thoughts about Arisu as protagonist, I would love to hear them, because at this point I'm just talking myself in circles.

(And I noticed to that Arisu and bad guy Niragi were counterpoints, opposite paths for the same sort of basement dwelling underachiever, but I don't have many thoughts on it right now. Or maybe Samura, the guy with all the tattoos, was more obviously the counterpoint, but he died and was less narratively significant in Arisu's story.)

I also would have preferred Arisu and Usagi had a firmly platonic relationship instead of heading toward romance. I mean, it seemed inevitable it would head that way as soon as I knew there was a female lead, so I wasn't exactly upset by it, just resigned. And it's not that the actors couldn't do romance, I was quite taken with their chemistry in that final scene at the hospital vending machine. That was actually a romance story I would watch, whatever it turned out to be (again, thoughts on the ending(s) to come).

But it felt so... I don't know, generic somehow. I didn't really get why they each, specifically, were drawn to the other person, specifically, other than that they were the main characters so they had to fall in love. It just would have felt more interesting to me if it was all done out of a deep friendship. Even Usagi's sacrifices and pleas in the final game with the Queen of Hearts would have worked if they were friends instead of falling in love, I think for me the scene would have felt even stronger, their bond and love for each other somehow more intentional rather than just following the predetermined path of a video game, in which the guy gets the girl.

I have many thoughts on

all the secondary protagonists, most of whom I found more interesting than the two leads

the various games themselves (I was impressed at their internal logic)

the final bosses - a serial killer jack of spades and then a literal tea party with Mira queen of hearts. i don't actually know my thoughts on this yet, but i know i have them. And I thought Mira's actor was excellent.

the attempted rapes and other moments of sexual assault (which I don't think were necessarily supposed to read as sexual assault. But I'm still trying to understand Japanese media's attitudes toward and depiction of sex.) I survived watching them by wondering if Usagi's and Niragi's actors were friends, and hoping they were comfortable with each other, because all that licking looked quite awkward.

(that's generally how I survived the most uncomfortable scenes, rape and gore and anything I didn't want to immerse myself in: I thought about the behind the scenes process of filming it)

the cinematography and CGI (was was often quite beautiful)

All the secondary women I loved: An, Kuina, teenage archer Heiya, the two dealers from the game at the Beach, Momoko and her friend, gone but not forgotten, desperate Shibuki, more complex than expected. There were a lot of fascinating women in this show, and I think the story did interesting things with them. But, also their stories were secondary to Arisu's... I don't actually know what my thoughts on that are yet, separate from my generally issues with his protagonist-ness.

Usagi herself. Who started off so intriguing and then got flattened into "the love interest." Maybe that's why the romance bothered me.

Arisu's friends, and their role as sacrifices, both explicitly acknowledged by the script, but also... still somehow not turned into real characters for me, despite them have personalities and backstories.

But also, Machida Kieta! I did not at all recognize him at first. I remembered vaguely some BL actor was in the show but not who, and did a double take when I read that it was him. Also ironic that his opening moment is literally an extensive kiss with women, when there were zero kisses in [redacted to avoid spoilers for those who haven't seen it]. But he was good as completely different character than [redacted].

The mysteries of it all! Just who/what is behind these torture/murders sprees disguised as "games"? And why? There were various theories offered in the show, were any of them real? And could any answer actually be satisfying? They eternal question for shows like this (I remember Lost stumbling so badly I never even finished the last season.) I don't even have theories myself, and I expect I would be disappointed by any particulars. But I also really want to know.

I did wish the characters were more curious/determined to find out what was going on. Which... they were, or at least some of them were (that's probably why An was my favorite. As well as that 8mm film they found.) And that was supposedly Arisu's driving force through it all - to get answers and get home. So I don't know why it didn't feel like enough for me.

oh I almost forgot! the Alice in Wonderland metaphor going on. It works, although I'm not entirely sure what it adds to the story. But I've never actually read the book, and most of my encounters with the story are actually videos of The Royal Ballet rehearsing parts of Christopher Wheeldon's ballet version. Which I haven't even seen in entirety. All of which is to say, I caught I few basics, with the help of MDL (Arisu=Alice, Usagi is apparently the Rabbit, the Hatter, Chishiya=Chesire Cat, the playing cards, the croquet game and tea with the Queen of Hearts). And I think this question of justice and fairness in an absurd world is also a theme in Alice in Wonderland. But if there are other parallels, or any of the other characters have specific counterparts, I missed it all.

And then the ending. I actually deliberately partially spoiled myself for it, which generally I work hard to avoid. But I was struggling in the last few episodes, and I wanted to know if there would be any answers if I kept watching, or if I would just leave frustrated. So I knew about the Joker card, though not the context. And I have to say I was more glad to see it than not, even though I don't want to wait for another season that never appears.

Because I was frustrated by the "it was all a near-death dream explanation." of them back in the real world. One that even they didn't remember, despite all the hard won lessons the characters learned. It's rarely an ending I find satisfying, and it raises so many questions: whose dream was it? Just Arisu's or everyone's? And, as an audience member, I feel like it cheapens all the deaths I had to witness to get there. Yes, I know they were fictional, but, I don't know, it somehow removes all the weight from the story, and then I wonder why I suffered through all that pain if it meant nothing. So as much as I want the characters to get back into the real world I was revealed to see that Joker card emerge on the table, implying they were in one last more stage of the game, controlled by who the hell knows who.

Although all the (conscious) characters seemed happy enough at the hospital back in their real world of the hospital, it didn't feel real to me without their memories of what they had endured, how they had changed from it. Because they had all worked hard to earn those changes, paying the price in literal blood.

That said, in general I'm not a fan of reality slipping media, that keeps the audience guessing on what's the real world and what's the hallucination/simulation/whatever. Alice in Borderland handled it about as well as I think it could. But often reality slipping just pulls me out of the story entirely. Because none of it is real, it's all created in film studies and on locations, and in the graphics computer. So if the show is asking me to determine which of the fictional realities is the "real" fictional reality, I often just through in the towel and go it's all fake. Alice in Borderland didn't do too much of this, so I was able to stay at least somewhat grounded in the worlds they were creating, although this was probably another contributor to that feeling of disconnect I was talking about at the beginning of these musings.

Ok. I have written almost 2500 words and I could probably write thousands more. But I really do need to sleep, and if I save this as a draft it will just hang over me. I don't know if this is really, like, a real point to make or a thing I particularly care about or a hill I'm willing to die on, but I kind of really like x-statix and x-cellent but I also feel weird about that.

Like, I just read the new x-cellent and it made me laugh and maybe that should be it.

These are very silly, but often quite funny storylines. Low stakes stupidity and dumb jokes. I often enjoy them. I also like how self contained the storylines are; it's refreshing, especially during big events like Sins of Sinister. So, what's the issue?

So, two things

Hypocrisy

So, for the first point. Am I a hypocrite for finding a story about a bunch of x-characters doing stupid things with kinda corny, meme-y jokes enjoyable, when it's a thing I specifically complain about in, say, x-terminators?

There are some differences. The x-statix characters are almost entirely confined to their own storylines; they're characterised for this genre and therefore don't feel undermined by this kind of writing. But if Jubilee, Boom Boom etc. are suddenly dropped into these memetastic roles, it feels like they're out of character. You're expecting continuity and you're not getting it. And that's literal continuity of plot, but also continuity of characterisation, and of genre conventions.

But I think a lot of the comparison still holds. It probably is inconsistent of me to find pretty much the exact same sensibility irritating and unfunny when it turns up in x-terminators.

I dunno, maybe I was just set off by the phrase "juicy dumper" and was just never going to enjoy that series lol

2. the politics of x-statix... right. So off the bat, it's worth establishing that the intentions of these series has always been "progressive, but flippant."

So, they're having a diverse lineup, they're making lefty-liberal commentary about social issues, but they're doing it from a flippant, irreverent place. It's a similar tone to, like, Archer.

They actually had multiple out gay characters on the team way back in 2001. They have trans and non-binary characters, which is still a big deal even today. They talk about misogyny, about racism, about homophobic and transphobia.

But also... well, the flippant tone lets them down at times. I've talked before about "Spike"'s appearance in their 2001 run. It's bad. It's racist, it's homophobic.

Specifically, it feels like it's trying to do something clever with it's commentary on internalised racism or something, but ends up just duplicating weird stereotypes.

And it's not just that. There are a lot of times when it's veered out of Archer territory (which is ultimately pretty wholesome) and into almost South Park vibes (that is to say, mean-spirited).

A comparison I kind of want to make is to The Boys (the tv show specifically). In that, they have all these fun jabs at Disney and superhero movies in general. Social commentary on misogyny, social media, the commodification of lgbt+ people. And then... they also have commentary on race stuff and it's... um... not as sharp, not as precise.

I don't really have a conclusion about any of this. I feel conflicted because it's not like these series have never been egregiously offensive. It has, and I reckon it probably won't be the last time. And I feel weird about recommending them for that reason. But I also think they do deserve credit for their politics too sometimes. Especially back in the 00s when the overall vibe of Marvel was much less progressive.

So yeah, those are my weird thoughts about x-statix.
