So, TFP au Tarn.

The Tarn that took me six hours to make.

Design discussion time! Now, I actually did use a good four references for his design (three IDWg1 Tarn pictures which all had varying styles of him, and a single cyberverse Tarn pic) aaand y'know my brain reference for the tfp style.

His optic and biolight color of yellow was actually an interesting process, because I was gonna choose blue like Cyberverse but something felt off about it, tried red but it didn't fit, purple just looked silly for some reason, and yellow decided to compliment his purples fairly well.

His helm ornamentation was actually super fun to think about, as I've mentioned that they're actually his audials and glow as he speaks like gl Wheeljack!

His scars, unlike canon depictions, are of unknown cause and nobody's willing to ask. Now, you may ask, is his mask just part of his face or just a mask? Welllll, yes and no. He at one point had a face under there, but there isn't really anymore and the mask is welded on. It was his choice.

The way scum villain has so many themes about writing/the literary arts and mdzs has so many themes about music and tgcf has so many themes about visual art and how each character that represents each of those respectively has their own struggle with their craft (passion burnout, loss of control over their ip/creation, obsession and dissociation) that gets turned on its head as their stories continue and their art comes to represent satisfaction and connection and devotion and love

#i know ive talked about svsss being a love letter to art and creators but i also think mdzs and tgcf have similar meta commentaries on #the nature of being an artist #perhaps a little dramatic to phrase it this way and i hope people dont get on my ass but i think wwxs downfall is somewhat reminiscent of #the artist being subsumed by their own creation and their legacy (like wwx's inventions) being bastardized and #perpetuated even by those who spit on the original creators reputation #and then tgcf obviously has major themes of art as a coping mechanism roped into that religious devotion element #whatever i just like art i think #tgcf #mdzs #svsss

The second half of the secret history is such a reality check. Up until this point, despite saying from the beginning that he was a liar, Richard's storytelling feels surprisingly sound to the point where it's so easy to believe everything he says until the cracks start to show and you realize just how shallow the connections between the students in the Greek class truly are. It feels so strange reading through Richard's accounts of what the other characters have said and done as the gradual betrayal of their 'true selves' beyond the initial romanticization proceed to completely recontextualize the whole novel. As a result, it's completely earth shattering to have all these revelations in quick succession and it truly feels like Bunny's funeral was the catalyst for everything coming to a head and subsequently crashing down as the illusions and idealistic world Richard his imposed upon his story up until that point is pulled back to reveal the harsh truths that feel nearly impossible to stomach.
