any thoughts on the new post that staff went scorched earth on which is now making the rounds abt tumblr live? it basically screenshots all the tos and claims if you've ever opened the app (or in some rbs, unsnoozed live) tumblr has gotten your data. on the one hand i feel like this is fearmongering, but on the other its true that MOST sites have your data as is so its pretty standard. you seem pretty knowledgeable abt data gathering so i was wondering abt your take
This is going to be pretty unkind but watching tumblr users interact with staff and live is a great primer on how conspiracy theories happen.
Nobody on this fucking website knows how to read a ToS, nobody on this website knows how anything fucking works (sorry, this is not a dig at you but how would tumblr "get" your data from you clicking or unclicking live; the only data that tumblr has on you is the data that you have put on tumblr what data do people think that clicking the "new" button is scooping up that is anything beyond interactions or posts or IP addresses which are the things that tumblr already has information about like you do not introduce new information into the tumblr ecosystem by clicking a button you haven't installed anything you haven't changed permissions on your browser if everyone is so goddamned scared about live stealing their data i strongly recommend they stop using anything but public internet through an anonymizer and making sure location data is shut off on all of their devices and anyone who is flipping their shit about the type of data that live is collecting but who is using chrome on any device needs to chill the fuck out about live and flip the fuck out about google)
this is like that post about twitter's content policy that circulated the other day or that post about deviantart's content policy that circulated ten fucking years ago nobody knows how to read legal documents and nobody knows how to read technical documentation and this comes together into unholy matrimony on the no reading comprehension at all moral panic website
live never violated the GDPR it was just rolled out in the US first but the entire userbase decided that because it hadn't been rolled out simultaneously in the EU and the US that it was SO UNSPEAKABLY PRIVACY VIOLATEY THAT THE EU HAD BANNED IT FOR ITS CRIMES with, like, nothing whatsoever backing that up because, again, even at its most intrusive Live collects about as much data as Twitter or Yelp, both of which are *capable* of meeting GDPR standards with that level of data collection (even if musk sometimes makes decisions that violate GDPR).
Live is significantly less intrusive than any facebook product, than Amazon, and than any Google product. If you use youtube logged in, don't worry about live, the horse is out of the barn and tumblr is the least of your worries *regardless* of live. If you regularly use Google as a search engine please god learn how to evaluate and compare risks across platforms because Live is like a coughing baby compared to about a dozen things that most highly online people interact with every single day.
If you don't want to use live don't use live. Clicking the button doesn't magically transfer your secret FBI file to tumblr and even agreeing to the ToS doesn't share anything that tumblr doesn't already have if you don't continue to interact - if you don't interact with live after agreeing to the ToS it's not collecting any data except your non-interaction.
For everyone who is losing it over Live just turn off your goddamned location on your fucking cellphone and turn off your location on your goddamned computers and that's it, you're good, you're fine, relax. If your response to "turn off your location" is "but I need it for _____" then don't worry about Live, whatever "_____" is was already collecting and selling your data.
Do you use an activity tracker? Congrats, you have much, much bigger privacy issues to worry about than tumblr live.
Okay but also I yelled about that post and the very many ways in which it was incorrect in January.
And I happened to take an archive of the page at that time because I'm a paranoid motherfucker.
And if you want my guess as to why staff went "scorched earth" on that post it's probably because if you scroll down to the bottom of the page on the archive, OP calls on everyone looking at the post to send a kind fuck you to the CEO then tagged his tumblr.
If you look at the other posts that went scorched earth in relation to tumblr staff they were also posts that very pointedly directed a lot of ire at a single staff member.
I don't think that any individual tumblr staff members are above criticism and I don't think that staff as a whole is above criticism but part of learning to read a ToS is understanding that someone can be shitty and vague and use TERF talking points and skirt the line and be technically okay under the ToS while someone can have a legitimate gripe about another user being horrible and manage to violate the ToS by accidentally spinning up a harassment campaign or suicide baiting someone.
Shitty people like nazis and terfs thrive on being edge cases. They are very good at finding a boundary and standing juuuuuuuuust on this side of it and going "la la la I'm not violating the ToS, you can't stop me!" and that blows and it leads to a lot of people encountering a lot of shitty stuff on a lot of websites but personally I'm pretty glad that there's a lot of gray area because when you cut out gray area that's when you see things like It's Going Down getting banned as extremist content alongside white supremacists. Please continue to report nazis and terfs, and when possible go deep into their pages to report because a pattern of behavior is more likely to get recognized as hate speech than a single post that gets reported a hundred times. Please block as many people who it's harmful for you to interact with as possible because it's clear that staff is not going to do the kind of work protecting users that users would like staff to do.
However I just can't get angry on behalf of a blogger who got nuked for saying "Hey everyone who hates this feature that we all hate please go tell the CEO to fuck himself at this URL specifically" - that is an extremely clear violation of the ToS because it is absolutely targeted harassment.
So now tumblr-the-userbase is going off on its merry conspiracy way skipping through fields and lacking reading comprehension and saying "users are getting banned for reporting the crimes of tumblr live and its gdpr violations" and ignoring the fact that the post was nuked because the last line was saying "hey everyone, let's all individually tell the CEO to fuck off in messages sent directly to him that are certainly not going to include any threats, exaggerations, gore, etc. etc. etc."
If I were to make a post that had 50k notes and the last line was "and while you're at it, please send tumblr-user-ms-demeanor a personalized message telling them why they're a terrible person so they know what we think of them" it would absolutely be reasonable to say that was harassing that user. And that post did it with the CEO. Who is not above criticism (and I have my criticisms! I don't think he really gets tumblr and that's a problem!), but jesus fucking christ don't tag the goddamned CEO or any other staff member in a call to action asking users to send them messages saying "fuck off" this is literally the stupidest thing I've ever seen a tumblr conspiracy theory coalesce around.
Anyway thank you for giving me a place to vent i've been getting more and more pissed about this for three days. Everyone feel free to kindly tell tumblr user ms demeanor to fuck off.

https://www.tumblr.com/qqueenofhades/743255237060689920/the-thing-that-confuses-me-about-the-dont-vote
The “don’t vote” left’s point is basically that, if Biden gets a second term, it’ll basically signal that “They’ll vote for us as long as we’re not Republicans, why don’t we do some REAL fucked up shit, if we can get away with it?” It takes the power out of the people’s hands and places it firmly in the party’s.
I can’t completely disagree with that, my caveat is that there’s no real alternative system or party in place, because top-down change is ineffective; a third party president has to contend with a two party congress.
Except no. This whole "Biden just wants to do as much fucked up shit as possible while not being a Republican, and if you give him a second term he'll do more fucked up shit deliberately to spite you" mindset is only possible as an interpretation if you a) deliberately and comprehensively ignore everything he has done to date, and b) you approach the situation with the maximum bad faith possible. Not to mention, the ultimate outcome of this Big Important Teaching Biden A Lesson is that Trump gets back into power and makes everything orders of magnitude worse, because he does in fact want to deliberately do evil shit to everyone and says so at every opportunity. There is not some magical happy alternative that springs into existence by not voting. If you choose this as a year to Teach Biden A Lesson, you are enabling Trump. Trump will be much, much worse. If you don't care about that, I still do not care what your Great Ideology is. You are not helping anyone and you are directly and irreversibly hurting everyone.
I made a post a few days ago wherein I mentioned that I want to assess Biden fairly, taking into account both strengths and weaknesses, but the rampant bad-faith, lying, misreading, misrepresentation, and open sabotage of him (especially by the online left; the GOP sometimes only wishes they were as good at turning Biden's voter pool against him) makes it really difficult to do that. My frustration with those people makes me just want to go "BIDEN IS GREAT THE END." I know he is a flawed old man (though by literally every account of a career spent in public service, he really does care about making the world a better place and any remotely good faith reading of his accomplishments thus far can see that). It is also very likely that he goes MORE left in a second term because he won't have to face the electorate again, he has always gone more left when pushed before, and he's not actually the scheming genocidal mastermind that leftist social media paints him as. Shocking, I know.
I know there are things in the world we don't like and don't want and want to stop, and therefore we blame our own president for not making it stop. But I have zero, no, none, absolutely none whatsoever sympathy for this pseudo-populist "WE NEED TO TEACH BIDEN A LESSON BY ELECTING TRUMP AGAIN, I AM VERY MORAL MUCH ACTIVIST" mindset. There's this funny thing about America wherein it is still (for now) a democracy. If Biden wins a second term, he can't run again. I would take literally anything these people said more seriously if they focused on developing their dream progressive successor for 2028 (and also figured out how to get that person elected and in a place to make real change) rather than cynically sabotaging Biden in the most consequential election year, again, of our lifetimes. If you don't like him now, find a way to make his successor a better option. Throwing a toddler tantrum and handing the country back to a senile, deranged, fascist, revenge-riddled, theocratic Trump HELPS. NOBODY. I still don't know how many times I'm going to have to say that, but yeah.

What questions does a magic system have to answer, or what boxes does it need to tick, for it to be 'comprehensive'?
That's a good question! and one that could be endlessly debated. Its kinda like asking "what does a cuisine need to be considered a cuisine?" There aren't any hard and fast rules, but if someone walked up to me personally and said "I have a new magical system ready to go" I would look for a few things:
(Gonna qualify this by saying this is just off the top of my head)
Theory Side:
1 - An atomic theory - Where did the universe come from? Whats it made of? It it atoms? platonic elements? Notes of the divine song? Grains of sand pulled from the abyssal sea? A systems relationship to material reality is what grounds it.
2 - A theory of identity - What is the thing you call "you"? Is it a fragment of the divine? A sub-divinity? Ashes of the divine corpse? An infestation in creation whose goal is to one day consume the divine? A piece in a divine chess game between the light and dark? A mistake? What happens when you're born? What about when you die?
3 - A theory of magic - How does the mind effect the world? Are you reading the lyrics of creation? Making a deal with the living spirit of every proton? Plucking the web of subtle connections between things? Are you just smacking atomic rocks together? And magic is no different than making a sandwich?
Practical Side:
1 - Natural Magic - How do your spells work? Can I make a spell out of buttons and paperclips? Stuff I found around the house? I find it important that a system lets me look at ordinary objects in new ways.
2 - Language! - Incorporating magic into language, especially written text, has become a cornerstone of any good magical theory. At this point in history, you cant really have a magical system without some fun linguistic semiotics. Gimme runes.
3 - Ritual Magic - These are your Big Guns, where you start going from a magical practice and edging into religion. What do you do to wake up every day? What is commemorated? What is given importance through action? What does the system overall focus on? Does the system have a goal to be accomplished through ritual?
Stuff I just like to see:
1 - Yoga - Not literal yoga, mind you. But any sort of spiritualized exercise regimen. This can be a tough one to get right, especially given the prevalence of medical pseudoscience and the general diversity of human bodies, but incorporating the entire body into a practice can have profound effects.
2 - Modularity - People are gonna want to customize their practice. Build that in. Give people options.
3 - Anti-theism - This is that good shit. You should be able to meaningfully participate in the system while not believing in the supernatural whatsoever.

I'm team joe but I wanna ask you guys: don't you think he probably cheated?
I don't view cheating as something so reprehensible. I don't do it and wouldn't like for it to be done to me or any of my friends, but I don't feel any impulse to cancel someone over it. I think is a very personal issue and it's up for each couple to decide where they stand in it. I mean, I'm sure we all watched joe on cwf and appreciate sally rooney.
that being said, didn't TS said in so long london "I founded the club she heard great things about"? fortnight is about matty but it reads like they're neighboors and she's singing about killing his wife, so that makes me think that the "my husband is cheating" line is about joe. she also sang something in another song in the lines of "he was already dreaming about her" which can mean he was emotionally cheating on her just like she did with matty.
anyway it's okay if they did, but don't we think that's the case? I think it's implied that he did something and that she broke up with him after cheating on him with matty multiple times in her head. I think that would explain kelleigh and the rage taylor had for him the whole past year.
Cheating is something awful and disrespectful and should absolutely be seen as a bad thing. Having morals and being loyal is a good thing. Let's call a spade what it is. CWF is about 4 very flawed people doing stupid, terrible things and hurting themselves and others. Not something to look up to.
Joe did NOT cheat on ts. No doubt whatsoever about it! Not only because Joe is an honorable man who would not dishonor himself like that, but also because there is not one shred of evidence that he did. Let's be real here, ts is the most petty, vindictive and hateful woman on the planet. If she had even the tiniest proof he was unfaithful she would have screamed it of the top of her head. We would be 20 short films deep into the annihilation of Joe. Alas, all she has is: he was sad and I got bored of him.
I worry about your comprehension skills. 🙄🙄🙄 Obviously she doesn't have a husband. Fortnight is about an affair that only lasted 2 weeks and dealing with an imaginary future where they are married to other people. And she hates his imaginary wife and her imaginary husband is cheating on her. It's a song about regretting what could have been. It's a what if the affair didn't end after a fortnight. 🙄
"I founded the club she heard great things about" Why must you remind me of that line. I bloody hate it. The audacity to put that disrespectful line in the song. Actually the more I think about it the more I despise ts. She is lying. She did not founded the Joe Alwyn Club. Ang Lee founded the club we've all heard great things about. And the first member to sign up for the club was Yorgos Lanthimos. He was the second director to give Joe a role back in 2015. And the reason we've all heard great things about the Joe Alwyn Club is because Joe is a great man. Not because of ts, but because of him, and his work and his character. And the fact that she is implying that she is better than the women Joe will date after her is pathetic. No, she is not better. She is richer and more successful, but not a better person. Any woman Joe will date after ts with be a better human than ts. And it's ugly of her to try to take credit for Joe and to attack and attempt to belittle Joe's future girlfriends or wife.

Can anyone in the League speak English?
BNHA is obviously set in Japan, but many villain fans speculate if any LOV members speak English as well. Here are my thoughts about it as an English as a Second Language teacher.
Shigaraki– Based on his upbringing, I'd say he probably has a damn good grasp on reading and writing in English, possibly even listening comprehension, but he has no conversational ability whatsoever. As someone who intended to take over the whole world, AFO would've wanted his heir to know English. However, Tomura's extremely secluded childhood meant that he probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to converse in the language or work on his pronunciation.
Dabi- Little to no ability. His education stopped at early middle school a decade previously. He might still be able to say "Hello. My name is Touya. I am from Japan. Do you speak Japanese?" if he'd had those stock phrases beaten into his head during his education.
Toga: See Dabi. She might have a few more phrases memorized since she's more recently out of school than Dabi is. "My favorite color is red. I am 14 years old."
Twice: No ability. Like Dabi and Toga, he also dropped out in middle school. He's older than they are, though, so he's had more time to forget anything he'd learned at school.
Spinner: Shockingly, I think he's the most likely member to be decently fluent in English. If I remember correctly, he finished high school and therefore had at least 3 more years of formal English education than the rest of them did. He's also a young guy who plays video games, which in my experience is a demographic that rapidly gains English skills from playing online with Americans. Shigaraki is explicitly said to have only played solo, but Spinner could've played online. His English conversation skills are probably really good and he's learned every curse word and slur that there is, plus a bunch of idioms. He might not be great at reading and writing in English unless he joined Discord or Tumblr or something.
Compress: Unknown. He's been out of school for a long time, but it seems like a random skill that he'd have.

idk about you but I love getting my opinions on one of the titans of English literature from a barely post-pubescent 20-something child on tumblr, a website famous for having users with great reading comprehension, critical thinking and no impulse whatsoever to fall into purity culture nonsense at the drop of a hat. I also love the English courts of law, and anti-sodomy laws, and I immediately and uncritically trust them when they accuse a gay man of being a pedophile. There is nothing wrong, childish or immature about this and I don't need to grow up
PURITY CULTURE??? PURITY CULTURE?????? Oh my bad folks I didn’t realise grooming 16 year old boys as a 30-something year old man was just rebelling against purity culture. And for your information, I’ve done plenty of research into anti-sodomy laws at the time of Wilde’s trials, and I’ve also read multiple sources of shorthand translations of the proceedings of the trials themselves, and anyone with two brain cells could tell that the way Wilde spoke wasn’t the way an innocent man would speak, and the evidence compiled against him was overwhelming, regardless of any bias the court may have had. True, the bias in question is fair to bring up and discuss, but it doesn’t negate his extremely likely guilt. It’s extremely unlikely that the man was innocent, from the evidence itself to Wilde’s tone during his “defence”.
Some sources:
The Trial of Oscar Wilde: From the Shorthand Reports (1906)
“In 1895, the playwright and wit Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was prosecuted for 'acts of gross indecency' with other men. Parts of his trial were covered in newspapers of the day, but because of British censorship laws, this fuller account was not published in English until 1906.”
–The British Library official website (bl.uk)
famous-trials.com, compiled by Professor Douglas O’Linder from UMKC School of Law, mostly aligning with the shorthand translations of the testimonies from the prior source referenced yet with a few details not included in the 1906 publication to my knowledge.
https://www.famous-trials.com/wilde/327-home
Of course, everything has drawbacks, everything has a grain of salt, not everything is fullproof, there’s room for argument everywhere and of course the two sources I linked there aren’t fully enough for a big picture, and context of the time, surrounding impact, further accounts etc should all be looked into — however, in weighing up the evidence and legitimacy of sources and conflating information on all sides, personally I’m ridiculously extremely confident that Wilde was guilty, and I think the fact that this isn’t really widespread historical information is ridiculous.
You’re right, you shouldn’t take things you see on Tumblr as full proof undisputed fact. You’re right, Tumblr is a hellhole a lot of the time for misinformation and bad literary comprehension and analysis. But that doesn’t mean anything you see anywhere is objectively wrong, and you should do a small molecule of proper research and critical thinking from seeing those posts before spouting bullshit.
And for your information, I’m both queer and Irish myself and shockingly the fact that one of the major idealised queer figures for my country is a rich 19th-century-Narcissus pedophile creep, and nobody says jack shit about it, makes me pretty fucking pissed! Surprisingly!
“Purity culture” catch yourself on lad what in the fresh fuck are you on about. I’m in the age range for the wee boys Wilde fucked, surprisingly if I heard one of my friends was meeting with and having sex with some rich fuck old enough to be their da I’d be pretty fucking concerned I’d be calling cps bro 💀🙏

Alright listen Mora!Reader is nearly done but I just had a truly awful idea and I’m listening to Extreme/Brazilian Funk rn so I’m on a mind high okay so here’s the tea (never saying that again):
So we know that Obey Me doesn’t follow the Bible in anyway whatsoever really, so why not make the entire game angsty because I’m tried? Bet, making shit angsty is my specialty.
So anyway, that’s where new character/reader comes in: Adam/Eve! And when I put their names together like that, I mean they are the same person. They were made in a way that allows them to flip flop between both genders and sex’s so like they have the best of both worlds. Good a cooking and cleaning and sewing and child stuff as well as hunting and war and providing and so on and so forth.
Now here’s the kicker, they’re the human Lilith meets.
And *poof* love blossoms. She’s like “Awe cute little human~” and they’re like “Wow a being beyond my mortal comprehension! Neat!” Love.
So all the “God doesn’t want me here” shit goes down and instead of being like “aw don’t listen to him baby stay down here with us humans” they’re like “Then??? Stop visiting me??? If The Father doesn’t want that????”
So anyway war starts and she dies-
And their like “OH NO MY LOVE” so they chase after her falling body and try to catch her but end up slipping off a cliff and being forced to watch as Lucifer does the deal thingy with Dia and then they also get reincarnated with her.
But not for good reason oh no, they’re immortal now and forced to watch as she lives her life and watch her descendants live their lives as well.
Also they’ve been instilled with the 7 deadly sins, but the 7 heavenly virtues are still stuck in em as another punishment so they can go “Imma gonna rob this bank😏” “you could use this to feed the poor😇” “NOOOOO-“
They start off being okay with the brothers and still praying but soon (and by soon I mean over the course of thousands of years) it turns into them owing a shrine in their house for the soul purpose of of praying to God to shit on him.
“So today I learned that Lilith’s 243rd descendent is a world leader. That’s cool. Bet you didn’t see that coming huh you fucking bitch? Bet you weren’t counting on that were you whore? Hope your ass sits on an angel with a shockingly sharp halo.”
Yeah they’re pissy which is fair.
And then, the cherry on top?
They get invited to R.A.D. as a human participant.
Now, last they checked this did seem like something Dia would do (they never had bad blood with him) but DAMNIT why them???
They are so fucking tired dude, when they get down there the demon brothers try to scare them and they probably say at some point “Oooooo Beel’s gonna eat you oooooo!!!1!1!11” And they just… rip their leg off and throw it at him before using an ancient magic to rapid fire heal their leg back to perfect health and walk away, leaving them in shock.
I’m sorry it’s late and like I said Mora!Reader is nearly done but this idea (that I know FULL WELL I didn’t articulate right) hasn’t left my mind as well as another that I might dump in a while lmao. Mmm just asshole Adam/Eve!Reader(??? Would anyone read that??-) who is tired of the brothers bullshit and ready to throw Belphie through a wall for coddling them hehe ໒꒰ྀི´ ˘ ` ꒱ྀིა
Also I’m open to questions if anyone has any (I doubt it lol) hehe got to many ideas ૮꒰ ˶꒦ິ꒳꒦ິ˶꒱ა♡
Anyway bye-

I understand what you mean by being a man is not a neutral act but at the same time, there is also the fact that sometimes, people choose to be men not to put themselves above others, but simply it just feels right to them. "Being a man is not a neutral act" inevitably leads to the idea that "since men benefit from patriarchy anyone who chooses to be a man must want it, and as such are inherently bad people." Its not what you said but its the kind of people who would agree with the sentiment, and that seems to be what people are mad at, because its defending who they are against people who do, in fact, think them evil for their identity. Sorry for those who misunderstand but I hope this helps clear any confusion.
i mean you're admitting yourself that "trans men only want to be men because it gives them power" is not actually what i said at all so why am i supposed to care if that's what people choose to read into my post and either agree with or get mad at? it does not "inevitably lead to" that idea unless you have zero reading comprehension whatsoever. whole new sentence etc etc
also it feels like you're trying to fearmonger about like the scary evil baeddels hiding behind every corner ready to forcefully detransition trans men or whatever. if some random trans woman out there reads my post and goes "so true, trans men are inherently evil" then she misunderstood what i said but also guess what, that doesn't affect you at all because she has no real power over you. stop quaking in your boots about transfem boogeywomen you made up in your mind.
i really cannot overstate how much i do not give a fuck about what transandrophobia bros and other transmasc MRA types like that think about my posts.

One more post before I go. Bit of a downer. About writing and fandom in general.
It genuinely saddens me that just because a fic is ship-centric people don't expect it to be anything other than trash.
They don't expect you to have a plot. To have any deep character analysis inside the narrative. They don't expect you to go into things like how the world the characters live in works. They don't expect you to treat the characters like you care about them or think deeply about their pathos.
The amount of comments I get that tell me they're shocked my writing touches on those things or follows a comprehensive storyline or gets them to actually think about things and consider maybe Ganondorf is someone worth thinking about rather than just using as an evil plot device has been through the roof.
I never used to get comments like that. Now it's every comment I get.
Now don't get me wrong, that shit makes me so happy, to know that I've been able to make someone think, to distract them from the porn because what I've written is truly interesting to read for them. Something that made them not only think about the depth of the relationship but also my favorite character. I love comments that tell me this. It really is validating! but it also...
reminds me of this.
This fact that being someone who is a shipper and proud and flaunts their stuff actually makes people look down on me. They don't want to even give me a chance and are therefore shocked when they do and what I've written is somehow not utter garbage. Because of course, it's got smut in it, it's trash, it's not worthy of anyone self-respecting and must be nothing more than an insult to the universe. To the characters they love. It's got to be OOC and awful and have no thought put into it whatsoever.
Yes I am being dramatic. I put a lot of work into what I write and to know it's defaulted as something lesser before it's even been conceived... hurts. It really honestly does. It hurts that my fellow fans will always look down on me as a person. It hurts that nothing I do will ever be taken seriously by people I look up to, that my options on who wants to interact with me are limited, because I have the gall to write something other than gen.

oh nolpats done you damage? i wouldn’t check out his twitter burners then…
do you know how to read i'm genuinely asking do you know how to fucking read do you have any reading comprehension skills whatsoever anon
Tumblr media
also just shut up just shut the fuck up all of this shit is alleged have either of those twitter accounts posted selfies?? do you know who is behind the screen?? do you know for a fact that the person running them is nolan james patrick, current unrestricted free agent drafted second overall by the philadelphia flyers in 2017 that softlaunched his retirement earlier this season?? do you?? do you really?? because if you say yes that's a fucking crime anon. did you know that??
i will tell you what my therapist told me, and then i will put a tally on my chalkboard for inciting an argument on the internet because again you people are fucking stupid and again i am objectively correct and you are making both of these my fucking problem before nine in the fucking morning. i have not even had my coffee yet.
paraphrased, "it's okay that you're curious about [william nylander's day to day status]. curiosity is a natural consequence of the human experience. that's why paparazzi have such steady income. i would be worried if you weren't curious - a lack of curiosity is a sign of dementia and mental decline." [...] "what it seems like you're doing is extrapolating a bit too far. you're taking one thought and viewing it as truth and instead of moving on, you're continuing to move through your mind and these 'what if' scenarios based off a truth that isn't real."
it is good to want to watch the car burn from the side of the road. i would be worried if you didn't want to watch the car burn from the side of the road. but i do not know for a fact that those accounts are run by nolan patrick. you do not know for a fact those accounts are run by nolan patrick. i have talked about this. it is nine in the god damn morning. speculate all you want but understand that being wild in my inbox will garner just as wild of a response back.
it's not hard to consider nhlers people. people do and think bad things and hold bad opinions. this is not a new concept bro. come on.
the narratives have truly rotted y'all's brains i'm too tired for this

I’m sure I did a post like this a while ago, I tried to look for it an couldn’t find it. Anyway, here’s what comes to mind if I write it now.
In terms of different ways to use the English language specifically, ways in which British English is different from Canadian English (which is not the same as American English, we in Canada talk like Americans in some ways and like Brits in other ways, ie. we use the metric system and put the U in colour and say Zed instead of Zee), here are some things the British are right about:
- I really like the expression: “To slag [someone or something] off” to mean to complain about them. I feel like it captures a really specific type of shit talk that no phrase in common usage here quite covers (the closest would probably be “shit talk”, but it’s not quite the same).
- Having “fancy” mean specifically “to like in a non-platonic way” is so useful, it’s weird that we don’t have a good equivalent here. There’s “in love with” – often more intense than what people mean. “Crush” – I actually rather like that word but it does make you sound eight years old. People often end up just using the word “like” and hoping their meaning will be clear, but this is an area in which it’s good to avoid misunderstandings, so nice to have a word that’s not as easily misinterpreted as “like”.
- Similarly, I rather like the phrase “to chat [someone] up” to mean “to flirt”.
- Football – obviously, “football” is a better name for that game than “soccer”.
- Posh – again, just a great word, captures somethings specific that no word in common usage here quite covers. “Rich” and “fancy” don’t hit quite the same meaning.
- Saying “zebra crossing” in stead of “crosswalk” – you guys are adorable.
- Saying “lollipop lady/lollipop man” instead of “crossing guard” – even more adorable. You’re right, you nice British people! It does look like one of those!
- “Dodgy” – just like “posh”, we have lots of words here that mean similar things, but I like the connotations of “dodgy” and wish I could use it without sounding like I’m pretending to be British.
- The expression “swings and roundabouts” – I like that one. I wish I could steal it.
- “Kit” to mean “clothes” – again, you guys are adorable.
Things the British are wrong about:
- In terms of societal amenities, “public” means “paid for by the state”, and “private” means “paid for by the user”. In Canada, schools follow that rule, because why the fuck wouldn’t schools follow that rule? Public schools are schools funded by the state, private schools are funding by the parents of students. In Britain, for absolutely no sensible reason whatsoever, “public school” and “private” school both mean “private school”. And if you want to talk about a school that’s actually publicly run, according to what “publicly run” means in every other instance, there are like eight different names for it, which I realize all mean different things from each other (state school, comprehensive, grammar school), that school system is complicated. It’s one of the few things I once had to sit down and actually study a bit just so I could get the references to it in British TV – most things I could pick up naturally by osmosis when I watched enough TV, but the school stuff took some reading because it makes no sense.
- The correct way to write a date is year-month-day. If you write a date that way and then put those dates in alphabetical order, they’ll naturally sort into chronological order (which also means that putting the date first is the correct way to write any file name that contains a date, so your files will automatically sort into chronological order – that’s not a British vs. Canadian thing, that’s just how I do it and it’s correct). Any other way will not make that happen, and therefore is not the right way to do it.
- I’m sorry, but I need you British people to accept that “rubber” is slang for “condom” in too many other places for it to be an acceptable slang for “eraser”. You have to stop using it that way. Though that cultural difference did add a few extra dimensions of humour to James Acaster’s “museum rubbers are terrible” bit.
- I don’t mind what you people call the last meal of the day, just pick one word and stick with it. Though it would be nice if you didn’t pick “tea”, since that means a different thing and it’s confusing.
- Why do you have a hundred different words for “breasts” and a hundred different words for “small bit of bread” and sometimes it’s the same word? Pick like four of each. Your four favourites. Go with those so that Canadians watching panel shows don’t have to keep hearing new ones, Googling them, and saying “Holy hell, you’ve got another word to mean that?”
- I genuinely cannot tell whether having sex in cars with people watching is such a common activity in Britain that it actually needed its own word, or whether the term “dogging” is some kind of mass national inside joke. But whatever the answer, it's probably not right.

I am confused why the consensus is Levi wouldn’t be protective over a girlfriend if he had one. He was super protective of Furlan and Isabel, he’s always trying to keep the cadets safe. I think he’d do everything in his capabilities to protect someone he loved if he was able to. Just because he’s a quite like not expressive, stoic and rude person doesn’t make him heartless. He’s not a people person or anything but that doesn’t mean he’s some uncaring asshole. I know he’s not soft or anything but he’d still care. It confuses me.
Just the idea in general that Levi isn't caring or doesn't feel protective of others is probably the stupidest, most inaccurate reading of his character possible. It's beyond my comprehension how anyone could think that about his character. You'd either have to have no media literacy whatsoever, meaning you'd have to be dumber than a rock, or you'd have to be deliberately misreading his character due to some personal agenda. He's so obviously deeply empathetic and kind.
And for sure, if he had a girlfriend, or any partner of any kind, he of course would do all he could to protect them. You bring up Furlan and Isabel, and that's a great example. I think they were the two people closest to him in his life. They were his chosen family, and he did everything for them, really. He came to the surface in the first place for them. So this notion that, if Levi found someone he loved, he wouldn't give his life to protect theirs, is absurd, and again, just a gross misreading of his character.

hello and thanks for all the information on your blog! i'm hoping you can provide some insight on this. were there any similarities left between the early cult of inanna from the "hymns to inanna", and the cult of ishtar in the neo-babylonian empire? people say the cult of ishtar came from the cult of inanna, but after many centuries, has the cult retained any of its previous characteristics?
With all due respect: please ask more precise questions about Inanna. I already requested that a few times before. There’s no viable way to give you a comprehensive response when the question is basically about critical evaluation of 4000 years worth of incredibly abundant material. My advice for anyone with similar questions would be to read Goddesses in Context as it addresses many similar matters. The short answer is that there is no real doubt about the continuity of cult of the city goddess of Uruk, whether referred to as Inanna, Ishtar, Nin-Eanna, Belet-Eanna or any variant name, from the fourth millennium BCE (the dawn of recorded history) down to the Parthian period (the end of cuneiform). See Paul-Alain Beaulieu's The Pantheon of Uruk During the Neo-Babylonian Period for some discussion.
More detailed response almost entirely relying on these two easily accessible sources under the cut.
I will admit I am puzzled by a part of the ask. There’s no singular work known as "hymns to inanna". I don't quite understand what you mean here. I can’t think of a single early corpus of hymns that might be meant here. The zami hymns are hardly Inanna-centric, the most recent edition argues they are ultimately centered on Lisin (article update tbd). They also do not say much about cult beyond listing cult centers. The Temple Hymns? Same caveat applies. The earliest form of Inanna’s cult is not documented in any hymns and in fact predates any literary texts whatsoever. These do not appear until well into the Early Dynastic period. The earliest evidence for the cult of Inanna boils down to references in administrative texts from the Uruk period. They confirm she was one of the oldest deities linked to specific cities - not the only one, since for example Nanshe and NINA (reading uncertain; Tell Zurghul) or Nisaba and Eresh (unlocated) show similarly strong links, but still. There isn’t much to say about the details. The typical early Inanna source is a list of commodities issued by a small or middle sized city, something like NI.RU (Jemdet Nasr) or Urum (Tell Uqair) for Inanna of Uruk. Virtually all settlements attested in the Uruk period corpus evidently included Inanna in their local pantheons, which reflects her role as the deity of the preeminent city-state, ie. Uruk. Zabalam needs to be singled out here since it seems Inanna in this case didn’t just enter the local pantheon, but also absorbed a deity worshiped there, possibly still sparsely attested as a separate figure in the Early Dynastic period. Inanna of Zabalam in later periods maintained some unique traits, like the connection to Shara, a god of exclusively local importance, but this cannot be discussed here in detail. I already covered the topic extensively elsewhere. Since the Uruk period texts are incredibly lax economic and administrative documents - writing was only just invented, after all - they do not provide much information about theology. However, they do confirm Inanna was already an astral deity at the dawn of history, since separate offerings had to be provided for “morning” and “evening” aspects of her. There are also more enigmatic epithets attested, including Inanna-NUN (maybe “princely Inanna”) and Inanna-KUR (“Inanna, the mountain”? I’d have to look into this more, but I’ve always assumed it’s like Enlil’s and Dagan’s mountain-related epithets highlighting their status). So to sum up, three out of the five main elements attested in later periods, all the way up to the death of cuneiform - astral character, major deity status and connection to Uruk - already appeared at the dawn of recorded history. Not bad for a deity whose early history we can only really analyze through texts looking like this:
Tumblr media
The political importance of Inanna’s cult documented in earliest sources from Uruk was retained through the following centuries, even as the center of power in Mesopotamia shifted towards other cities, like Umma and Lagash. Theologically, she retained the role of one of the preeminent deities. The earliest known god list firmly places her as the #1 goddess, right behind An (whose prominence was entirely nominal) and Enlil (functionally the head of the pantheon). Most important, the importance of Inanna evidently continued in the Sargonic period. That’s when a big change in status quo occurred: complete fusion of Inanna of Uruk and the royal goddess of the Sargonic dynasty, hailing from Akkad up in the north. This was most likely motivated in no small part by politics - Uruk was one of the best established cities in the world known to the Mesopotamians, Akkad was an upstart peripheral town, deities were the key to royal legitimacy. Sometimes arguments are made that the warlike side of Inanna was absorbed from the goddess of Akkad, but really it seems the conflation was based on preexisting similarities. Certainly it would be unexpected for a deity of a militarily active city to have no warlike traits. It needs to be stressed here that the merge between the goddesses of Uruk and Akkad was actually pretty unique. To fully illustrate the point: there are thirty seven goddesses in the zame hymns; of these, only Inanna really underwent a similar process. Medimsha served as the counterpart of Shala later on but this is a different matter. At the same time, it was not the first case of conflation, as evidenced by the fact the names Nanna and Sin are already interchangeable in the early sources (and while nominally Akkadian, Sin was actually the preferred one ex. in Lagash, where Sumerian was by far the most commonly spoken language). There was a single mixed pantheon with deities with names originating in both languages (and some whose names instead came from substrates, Hurrian, etc) and with a lot of regional variety, there were no two similar but distinct “Sumerian” and “Akkadian” pantheons and conflation occurred on a case by case basis, not necessarily between a "Sumerian" and "Akkadian" deity. In the Temple Hymns, which might have been originally composed in the Sargonic period, there are three separate cult centers of Inanna as a result of the merge: Uruk, Zabalam and Ulmash, to be understood as the city of Akkad (it’s the name of a temple located there to be more precise). A further impact of the merge was the fact that the logogram representing Inanna’s name could also be read as Ishtar. The situation did not change much through the Ur III and Isin-Larsa periods when it came to the worship of Inanna in Uruk, but in the Old Babylonian period a crisis led to abandonment of many southern cities (in most cases temporarily, not permanently). The circumstances would take too much space to discuss, but both political and environmental factors are typically considered in scholarship. Uruk was among the locations impacted. The clergy evacuated to Kish, and brought Inanna(/Ishtar) with them. Kish had its own Ishtar already (she also had the distinct name Kišītum, “she of Kish”, according to texts from Mari and some theophoric names), but she was seemingly not affected by Inanna of Uruk “moving in”, and continued to be worshiped separately. She was actually more impacted by the introduction of Bau from another abandoned southern city, Lagash, but that’s also another matter which cannot be covered here (I already wrote about it in the past). The period between the end of the Old Babylonian period and the Neo-Babylonian period is somewhat poorly documented when it comes to Uruk, but we do know that the “cult in exile” came back home from Kish and that rulers from the Kassite dynasty rebuilt the Eanna temple for Inanna, with new snazzy decorated walls:
Tumblr media
The Eanna dates back at least to the Early Dynastic period, and remained the center of Inanna's cult all the way up to the late first millennium BCE. While there is a hole in records from Uruk, documentation resumes in the Neo-Babylonian period, in no small part thanks to the discovery of the Eanna archive. It doesn’t seem like the model changed: kings fund cults in individual cities, clergy manages the day to day affairs of the temples, rituals like dressing up statues and lamentations occur regularly (though doubtlessly the “cultic calendar” shifted many times). The fall of the Neo-Babylonian Empire did bring huge changes, both from Uruk and for Mesopotamian religion as a whole, but that's another story.

Felt like writing about my OCs a bit so yeah~
As you probably noticed I tend to use one of my two OCs to represent myself. The actual character for drawing myself (ig?) is this purple little ghost thingy! I uhh never gave ‘em a official name but they do represent me so idk naming them differently than what I name myself would be kinda odd >.<
The other two are original characters that are supposed to represent a certain aspect of me~ As seen in my first post, Maroon is the representation of my intrusive thoughts while Noble is the ahem ‘Cringe' part of me.
Maroon was actually created wayyy before this blog. Their original purpose was to be a villain in a really edgy Pokémon fanfiction I wanted to make. I never really got around to writing it (for the better tbh). Later on I always cast them as the villain in any made up story I created since well… I needed one and Maroon fit the role. After awhile I realized Maroon was created specifically to satisfy my intrusive thoughts and scenarios, and here we are now ^v^ The whole reason this blog was created are those thoughts so yeah.
Cringeness was created specifically for this blog~ After I decided ‘Yeah you’re right inner thoughts I will allow myself to be cringe!’ I made this blog and along with it Noble. Personally when I refer to myself as ‘cringe’ I see it more as a reclaim of the word I guess? Or something like ‘yeah I can be consider cringe by some and that is perfectly fine’. I guess Cringeness is a character that is basically ‘accepting the part of me that can be considered odd by some’. Fun fact: I was also gonna use them as a Villain for an AU originally but decided against it =u= OH! + Their name is a mix of Cringe & Empress UvU/
Design wise I decided to make Cringeness the exact opposite of Maroon. They are rounder and more feminine unlike Maroon who is more masculine and sharper. Oh! I also wanna add how I intentionally made Maroons eyes have long eyelashes while Cringeness basically has none =o=/ Whenever I draw ‘em I always make sure to draw this part correctly!
Uhm… That is it for now, maybe I’ll make another post in the distant future about my OCs that is more comprehensible /ᐠ。ꞈ。ᐟ\ Ty if u read this, idk if what I wrote made any sense whatsoever but I hope it did. I know I can write a bit chaotically at times XD

You, looking at someone who doesn’t want to go to the hospital right now and give up their liver, bone marrow, and blood to save someone because they don’t think other people have the right to use their bodies for parts: “wow why would you literally actually murder all these innocent people 🥺 murderers! 😓”
Except I’ve thoroughly explained why that very thing is not murder and how that is the difference between organ donation and abortion because abortion is murder and refusing to donate organs is not.
So you’re not doing your side any favors by showing off how you have absolutely no reading comprehension skills whatsoever.
