thinking about an owl house AU where, during the human realm months the Hexsquad play a dnd campaign
- Camila DMs but Gus casts tiny illusions to make the gameboard and player tokens
- Luz and Amity both play as wizards with names based on The Good Witch Azura (the epic return of Luzura)
- Luz chooses to change the class name to Witches becuase this is an anti-wizard household
-Willow plays as a druid and she’s very envious of the damage some of the fictional spells can deal out
-Gus plays as an artificer, but he later multiclasses as an illusions wizard becuase he’s so used to intergrating illusions into his maneuvers
-Vee plays as a rouge because ‘If i can steal someone’s identity for several months, i can probably steal that noble’s walet’
- She also shapeshifts into her character for each session and Luz is very jealous of this fact
- Hunter considers playing as a paladin, but ends up playing as a protection fighter. no magic, only supporting his friends
- he does ask to put flapjack in the game, so paladin hunter does also have a small bird friend
-He frequently critisizes the poor planning of fictional militaries and makes battle plans based around his real life knowledge of castle structures
- i cant think of any character races other than Gus - who would never pass up the opportunity to play as a Human, and hunter who is a Warforged :)))

i have finally found the time to watch through the entirety of a court of fey and flowers and it has left me clawing the walls
a few thoughts, here and below the cut:
aabria is honestly one of my favorite gms to watch work. like, literally watch, i am 95% podcasts for my actual play media, but the visual elements of her games (esp. her npc facial expressions & acting choices) are so compelling. every damn time wuvvy looked at rue i died.
never not gonna be impressed with how smoothly this team integrated dnd combat & magic & skill checks with the good society framework to make a compelling, weighty, primarily social game. the unique tokens! (the significance to burning them!) the many pvp insight/deception checks over sighs and glances!!
brennan being an eternal gm is a crime, hob is The Most Character
like, picture me taking that character art of hob, printing it out, folding it up, and eating it. love him.
he’s a self-loathing emotionally obtuse plothound who claims to be bad with words but gives The Most Austen-style heart-wrenchingly vulnerable speeches. who else is doing it like him.
(seriously, if you’ve got regency media recs with hob-alike MCs I Want Them)
i am imagining some bonkers child creation magic — like, cabbage patch If You Want One It Will Grow stuff, genetics and gametes need not be involved stuff — that gives hob and rue an enormous passel of kids to love on and Treat Right, including at least one Owl With Bug Wings and two or three Literal Bears.
also picturing atla level confusion when the first one of those bears comes along. “just a bear?” “not a bugbear, not an owlbear, not a bugowlbear. just a bear.” “…this kid is weird.” “yeah, but we’re gonna love them like mad anyway right?” “oh yeah, of course, i’m just saying!”
deeply shocked andhera was able to sit through that detect thoughts at the tailor shop scene without blurting out SOMETHING, given his tendencies towards blurting out everything in other moments.
but like. imagine.
hob: the k stands for knickolas!!
rue: i love him.
andhera: oh shit, for real?! you love him for real??
disastrous. andhera fails to keep his mouth shut, four wounded two dead. (rip buddy, you were a real one)
otoh. now i’m imagining a fun little trivia game at rue’s nearlywed shower with questions like “where did they meet” and “who asked whom” that give them an excuse to retell all of these cute stories about their relationship, and one question is “when did rue first realize they loved hob?”
the answer is supposed to be after they danced all night at the masquerade, because rue thinks it’s fine to lie a little for the Romance of it all, but andhera’s like “oh, i remember that! it was when hob told them what the k in k.p. stands for!”
and he’s very :D satisfied with himself for winning his team a point! not noticing rue and hob’s very complex face journeys as they silently have a Conversation about this.
most shocking moment for me, a person who saw a fair number of acofaf gifs on my dash last fall: chirp marriage & child reveal, no question. the cast around her reacting is also very good, but the twist in itself was honestly so unexpected! and it works fantastically to give the lords of the wing motivation to join the larger plot on Our Heroes’ Side, i thought that was very smartly done.
and last but not least, a fun fact!
I did not realize this until the ap episode where omar confirmed ace andhera, but my first dnd character was basically a mash-up of andhera and rue.
like. they were an ace paladin poorly faking charm and coolness, using a normative appearance (“imagine a combination of chris hemsworth and chris evans”) as a facade a scared, nonnormative creature hid behind— unfortunately my BINX-alike PC friend died early in the campaign, and the plot took priority over character exploration. but still: same hat!
also: me now, looking back at that character: [miranda cosgrove ‘interesting’ meme with the nonbinary flag superimposed]

Thinking about my dnd arcana cleric that had like nine cantrips.
I joined in on the campaign group who I play with consistently halfway through a campaign due to scheduling conflicts and thus couldn’t really make a character that was memorable backstory wise so I decided to make them memorable buildwise.
I wanted to get as many cantrips as I could, being variant human, taken arcane initiative and having the arcana domain give extra cantrips.
This was when I discovered that clerics were brutally over powered. Many of my party members assumed (and some still think) clerics are there to heal and support. I wanted to do that do but at that point I was more of a power gamer and often I found that blasting away the enemies was better than healing my friends. It was funny, the characters and players would consistently forget that my character was a cleric, not a wizard. With spiritual weapon and an owl familiar, I had so many tokens I controller on the map. My owl I would use to land on unsuspecting enemies and cast inflict wounds. I did it once and instantly murdered an enemy who was confused by the owl being so deep in a cave.
My other favourite thing this character did was cast calm emotions on a group of enemies we failed to sneak past causing us to roll for initiative. I went first and somehow every enemy failed their roll and combat was immediately over and we talked to them instead.
I wish I could’ve played as them longer to actually develop a backstory though :/
All I really have for them was that they were kind and smart. It is fun playing just simply kind characters trying to do good though.

Inspired by that edit that I made in the Dulcet games Discord server. I'm gonna be into this crap. DND shit is coming up. I never played it, but I hope I do. Goddamn current events preventing me from doing so. Status before, is what their occupation/life was like before the story started.

Information: A disgraced prince from one of the biggest kingdoms in the land, but was grateful for his exile. Knowing that it was a painful life back there. After departing, he met a paladin half-orc named Alistair. The two became fast and best friends.

His magical powers comes from his elf side

Status before: Guardian
Information: A respected paladin among the humans, despite his orcish heritage. Quickly learning of a dark truth his superiors hid from him, he ran away, faking his death. Meeting a prince from one of the most famous kingdoms, the two became friends immediately.

Information: A powerful and capable fighter. A former soldier of a famous army, but has left due to unknown reasons (revealed until later). Often comes by to Claire's tent to get healed, almost every single day.

Would rather use a claymore more than any other weapon (she likes them strong)
Has a long list of weird incidents that she'll casually mention, but no one will question it
Acts as the protector and look-out of the group

Class: Cleric (or Claric fuck you dragon /j)
Race: Dwarf
Status before: Cleric's Apprentice
Information: A talented healer with powers that are way too powerful for her age. To the point where she has to be careful with the paitent. Basically Raquel's babysitter, because she gets in way too many accidents.

She and Tadashi are the only one's with proper authority (she is the only one out of the two capable of grounding Axel)
Along with Alistair, is the healer for the Arlington Brigade
[Axel]
Class: Bard (its too obvious tho)
Race: Tiefling
Status before: Travelling Musician
Information: A former famed musician, who has found himself in a group of misfits and supposed outcasts. He has experience in different forms of magic which always helps the group in various situations.
Other info:
Cannot rely on weapons that well
Is the team's morale booster and negotiator
The lute he owns is one of many insturments that is contained in a mysterious dimensional pocket

Class: Artificer
Race: Gnome
Status before: Blacksmith Apprentice
Information: A former apprentice who was used to be based in one of the biggest merchant kingdoms. For unknown circumstances, has left (revealed until later). Talented with her work in building various items.

Would often build weird things, which turns out to be useful in dangerous situation

Still obsessed with Lou being such a giving player willing to lay it all on the line for Brennan... Lou/Jammer having just met Evan and already knowing this is his worst nightmare and doing everything in his power to protect him and keep him calm... keeping him calm looking like using intensely team focused language when Evan has been forced to spend so much of his time alone... Evan immediately starts mimicking that language... Brennan being so touched and immediately trying to pay him back and Aabria panicking in the background that hes going to waste all his adversity tokens on a flavor roll... I will never be over it

hello ! i just wanna say ur heckin cool and i loved ur dnd ramble !! big mood !! anyways i remember quite a bit ago in a video that u followed nyxl and that u liked ark ! u probably haven't been able to follow as much, but i was kinda just wondering what ur thoughts were a year later, ark being on justice (;~;~;), etc etc
i haven’t really been following owl as much for season 2. idk, something about the new format and the player trades made owl lose most of the charm it had for the first season + i felt like ? it wasn’t as relevant in my life as it used to be. i still mod for the players that i used to mod for sometimes, but that’s like,,, once in a blue moon :( i’ve forgotten all of the player alt / smurf usernames after not modding, i lost contact with the friends i made via owl / modding, i don’t keep up with players or owl as much, i was excited for runaway making it to owl, and yeah that’s season 2 in a nutshell. oh! but i did use my leftover owl tokens to purchase the new mercy skin from all-stars + i love that mercy skin lmao

omg I can absolutely talk about our campaign!
we’re planning on making a zine from all our sketchbooks and game notes for SPX in September, but I’ll give you a breakdown for now:

We were a bunch of strangers traveling on a caravan through the giant desert that makes up the continent we are on. We’ve been through a handful of decent sized missions since our first goblin attack.
Our party has been in the underdark for a while now. We were summoned by Svirfneblin named Pip to save the city of Gem Bright. We made it after several days (roll to see who you cuddle with), we ended up finding out that oozes have been murdering towns members and set off further into the caves, and found walls completely covered in runelike drawings of eyes.
That led us to a drow who we ended up killing (she was a bitch) and found a freaky chamber with little oozes books and a bowl of eyes. So we used the drow’s eyes to accidentally summon a very bad Ooze. it saw itself as the physical embodiment of Jubilex and, humble brag: I got to kill it.
…On occasion we remember we’re a band.
Reykja crossed the sea from her continent to look for her teacher who was taken by the drow. She’s a rogue who doesn’t like to steal (except for liquor) and normally ends up covered in something awful by the end of a boss fight. Tries to keep lil cutie in line, and quite often fails.
Demetria is spreading seeds from the dead wood she came from (with the ability to restore her spells by having sex with people, we get it Faye). Has a staff that can turn into a 60 foot tree. Her owl LaLuna is not a snowy owl despite the fact that we always forget.
Daedric is our teenage cleric who is the only party member not in the chaotic alignment. He likes to protect others, and leaves a false gold token to honor the dead. Now has a tree mom and an elf mom, and can do no wrong in their eyes. He is a very kind and patient person, but does not put up with lil cutie’s shit.
Lil Cutie is a very intelligent, incredibly uncharismatic, 5 year old Goblin. She’s been traveling with Reykja for months before they met with the other two. Constantly devastated that we are often fighting ‘wee folk’, loves to loot immediately, hates to share. She left home because she sucks at quilting and her mother got pushed off a cliff.
