Disney: Yeah, sorryy, we don't know how to make villains without queercoding them and people didn't like the twist-villains, so we stopped making them alltogether :( I hope you like 3593 intergenerational family-traumas!
Dreamworks, while creating not one, not two, but three amazing villains: Pathetic

Vanellope VS. Turbo: A Mini Analysis!
Tumblr media
There are a million reasons why Turbo’s reveal in Disney’s Wreck-it Ralph is such an iconic and memorable scene. A scene that I and many others have replayed ever since 2012 and its impact has never left our minds. It solidified King Candy/Turbo as one of Disney's top villains ever created, surprising and shocking viewers with a plot twist that Disney hasn’t been able to overthrow with their other movies before they abandoned villains until King Magnifico but he sucks so. He WISHES he was as charismatic as King Candy plz-
But this analysis isn’t just about King Candy/Turbo, it’s also about Vanellope Von Schweetz. She’s the most important ingredient to making this scene work and play out the way it does and ultimately why it’s so fucking cathartic. ( More so than Ralph’s fight against Cy-Bug Turbo in my opinion) After watching how it was originally story boarded, the crew behind WiR perfected this scene with a specific detail that they changed. In the early storyboard, Vanellope causes King Candy’s vehicle to crash, causing him to glitch and transform into Turbo in front of the cameras. While I love love love the extended race between Vanellope and King Candy and sort of wished it could have been longer in the actual film, I am content that they didn’t go with the direction. In the movie, King Candy is revealed after trying to beat/kill Vanellope with his horn rod/pole thingy from his kart, she grabs it and glitches due to stress/adrenaline/her emotions, her blue glitch traveling through the cane and making contact with King Candy, finally putting down the facade he had on for 15 years and revealing him as Turbo to the characters in the film and the audience. It’s such a small detail, it only happens in a second, but it’s all it took for the start of his downfall and his eventual demise.
Tumblr media
And this is why it brings me catharsis every time I watch this scene. I could never put it into words before, but it’s beyond satisfying that the end of King Candy’s horrible reign starts with Vanellope and her glitch. The very same glitch that he caused trying to delete her code and remove her place from the game. The glitch that he used as an excuse to turn everyone in Sugar Rush against her. He usurped her throne and tried to ruin her life. Despite this, he still had the audacity to shout “Get off of MY track!” earlier. It brings his Roadblasters incident back up, it was his choice, trying to steal the thunder of another racing game that just got plugged in because he couldn’t stand the idea of anyone taking his place, only for Turbo Time and Roadblasters to be unplugged. All of this circling back and biting him in the ass. Vanellope was the key all along and he knew it, he feared her despite never really having a conversation with her as far as we know (Vanellope asking Turbo “What the-?! Who are you!?” leads me to believe that if they did converse in the past, it was not in his true form and he was most likely already King Candy. Plus it just goes to show how fast he hijacked Sugar Rush), but you can just tell by how desperate he was to keep her from racing, he didn’t want anyone to take his place ever again.
So the scene continues and his famous line and breakdown goes as this: “I’m Turbo! The greatest racer ever! And I did not reprogram this world to let YOU and that halitosis riddled warthog TAKE IT AWAY FROM ME!” It’s just so ironic, unfair and hypocritical of him it makes my blood boil! And the way he’s raising his voice, jabbing his finger at her and Vanellope’s trying to shrink away from him as he yells at her face before he tries to murder her I just- So cruel, scary, wicked and disturbing! But Vanellope, this brave WARRIOR, is reminded of her glitch after Turbo calls her for what he believes is the last time. “End of the line, Glitch!” She takes a moment, everything slows down around her as she tries to control her glitch to escape Turbo. She glitches away, missing the wall and It ends up saving her life! I just cannot stress enough how beautiful that is! She used her disability, that everyone thought would simply doom her and the game, and embraced it when she needed it most. Her glitch, while it was suddenly given to her by circumstances she couldn’t control or prevent, she took control back. It’s her beautiful superpower and it’s empowering. After this scene, it’s the “end” of Turbo before he gets nom’d by a Cy-Bug. ( I want to note that he later says “I’m the most powerful VIRUS in the arcade”, part of me wants to believe he said that because clearly Vanellope bested him as the greatest racer ever but I doubt that was their intention lol)
They’re the embodiment of Selfishness vs. Selflessness. While Vanellope had everything taken away from her, she didn’t follow the same path as him. Turbo had everything taken from him, but it was his fault and he only ever thought about himself, never about the destruction he left behind. Hell, all she ever wanted was to be one of the racers, no matter how much they bullied her and ostracized her, she never ended up being evil like him even though it would be a perfect recipe to become a villain, this is also what makes her a mirror to Ralph.  (Remember in that one deleted scene where she said she wanted to break the racers’ legs but come on can you blame her!?!?! She was so real for saying that.) VANELLOPE IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER EVER AAAA.
Before I ramble any further, I will forever love the choices that the writers made for the climax and it just ends up being an absolutely perfect and brilliant scene and I will continue to rewatch for the millionth time.

Not that there should ever be anything Twitter does better than any other platform, but at least the 'Mute this person for everything except for the art you actually followed them for' function was S-tier when it worked because some people on here really like to talk shit about self-made problems and act like their art is enough for people to suffer through shitty takes.

idk I feel like the conflict shouldn't have been 'Magnifico's keeping all the wishes to himself and barely granting any' if they wanted to keep in his backstory so much.
Like, okay, he's possessive and full of himself but they put that backstory in because he's afraid of having his home attacked and destroyed and losing his family/the people around him like what had happened when he was a child, that's why he founded Rosas in the first place, why it was a safe haven, and why he was like 'if any wishes could at all lead to Rosas being harmed in any way it is not being granted.' They should've kept going with that instead of him being all me, me, me even before he got corrupted. (The me, me, me stuff can come after, as in him feeling betrayed and unappreciated by his people because he's seen how bad life can get and how threatening people can be and doesn't want there to be any risk of it happening again.)
Maybe it could have worked better if they did it in a way that had both Asha and Magnifico be in the wrong at first. Like if Asha got the star power to come down and naively gets it to help her grant a wish in order to show Magnifico that he's being too cautious (especially with his whole, I will not be giving any of the wishes back thing) but instead it ends up having negative consequences for other people (like the opposite of one man's trash is another man's treasure sort of thing, what's good for one is bad for other's) only when this happens Asha realizes her mistake and actively works to fix it, and Magnifico gets so desperate and caught up by his past and feels like 'oh no it's happening all over again I need to do something, why don't you people understand what I'm trying to do for you' he goes to that locked-up-behind-the-glass book and it corrupts him.
Instead of making him barely concealed cartoonishly evil all the way to full on cartoonishly evil.
And it's optional but they could still do that Magnifico and Amaya are the antagonists but totally in love with each other thing by having the Queen be angry with Asha because in her eyes she's the one who drove him to act in such a way that he barely see's her anymore (you know, like one of those dramatic eye narrowing scenes where they see their enemy and go 'you!') and at the end when he's sucked into the mirror she wants to find a way to bring him back. Because she did want to bring him back in the movie before she was all 'nah he's too far gone.'

"Star Wars isn't dead y'all are just haters" "Disney saved Star Wars" "It's the Woke Agenda that ruined Star Wars"
My mans, Disney single-handedly destroyed the Sequel Trilogy despite the Force Awakens being the gateway to something potentially fantastic; MCU'd the Mandalorian (a story which originally had nothing to do with the Prequel and OG Trilogy aside from sharing a universe and exploring a sect of a completely different culture/ideology); ego-boosted both Filoni and Favreau to the point where their OC Verse is not only canon but openly disregarding the Star Wars Universe Bible/Lore; gave us a snippet of what an extremely misunderstood indigenous culture is actually like (instead of portraying them as the savages one of the white leads mislabeled as animals that deserved to be slaughtered) only to then wipe out the tribe we got to know for no reason other than shock value thus alienating indigenous/poc viewers in the most disrespectful way possible; completely threw away the entire message of TCW (that being a clone does not make you incapable of being your own person who has their own thoughts, ideals, moral compass and overall identity) by making TBB (a show that does have it's strong points in set design, soundtrack orchestration and overall sound design, but is extremely weak on both characterization and storytelling because they either make the meaningful plot points stretch too thin or focus on the wrong character completely) their go to show marketed for kids instead of the actual kids programming that people shit on for being for, surprise, kids; constantly disregards valid critique from their consumers (to the point where infighting in the Fandom has gotten extremely ugly) that people either give up on interacting completely or simply vanish and take all their things with them (because no one seems to understand where these critiques come from, or how being unable to admit your special little show is imperfect is actually not a good thing for both you and others).
This isn't even accounting for the fact the Fandom seems to have doubled in it's overall toxicity since Disney took over. Which is par for the course when a mega corporation takes hold of something that started out extremely political in nature anyway. The Cash Cow machine needs feeding after all...
#Eps Talks About:#Funny enough this started as an argument between my sisters#One of which isn't a Star Wars fan and the other who is an OJ and Prequels fan#My mom (who was the one to introduce us to star wars mind you) and I watched from the sidelines#Mom didn't care because she doesn't like Modern Star Wars stuff but I ended up putting an end to the argument#My younger sister is right that Disney put too much emphasis on SELLING Star Wars to newer generations to a detrimental degree#but that doesn't mean they invalidate what came prior to their shitshow or the message SW was created to uphold#in fact Andor and SW Visions S2 made a point of being the best homages to the OJ trilogy thus far by being very political in their messages#But my older sister is also right that the state of Fandoms these days is very much a US vs THEM situation in terms of how people make#themselves heard and how meeting in the middle is virtually impossible which is very much a product of social media and how people conduct#their personal image via either genuinely expressing their feelings on certain topics or simply using them for clout#It is a case of locking yourself in a room with an 'adversary' and trying to see who can scream the loudest until someone loses their voice#I love star wars but that doesn't mean I'm blind to the fact star wars also kinda sucks lmao but oh well these are just my thoughts that#I'm letting loose because I'm already pissed off from something else going wrong today and have no patience for some of the rancid shit#that keeps cropping up in either tags or posts I find in and out of Tumblr Dot Com

The Just Dancers at Disney World because I’m at Disney World
Wanderlust: He would LOVE Disney. Every time I go on a ride I think Wander would love it. He’s such a Disney adult, he’ll wear cheesy t-shirts and go all the time and he would just love it all. His favorite park would be Epcot and he would LOVE Soarin. That boy could go on Soarin 30 times in a row and still be just as amazed as he was the first time. Everyone loves going with him because he’s more excited than every little kid there. He also LOVES meeting the princesses, he insists he has to meet every single one. Does his little bow to them. They love him.
Sara: Also a Disney adult, but a slightly different breed. She disneybounds and collects ears and takes a billion pictures for her Instagram. Her and Wanderlust drop everything when they walk past a dance party. Also loves meeting the characters but she’s more a fan of the fur characters, she loves getting hugs from Mickey and Winnie the Pooh
Brezziana: she’s a thrill seeker, she prefers Universal but she can enjoy Disney. Has to hit all the coasters before they leave. Gets super competitive on Space Ranger Spin and Toy Story Mania and absolutely crushes everyone. Carries a ton of water bottles in her backpack because she knows the others will forget to drink water (looking at you, Wanderlust) and she needs to make sure everyone is hydrated. Is the last one to pass out at the end of the day.
Mihaly: Is perfectly content just walking around and looking at everything. They LOVE the theming and all the little details. They’re not enough of a fan to have all the fun facts memorized, but they love listening to Wanderlust ramble on and on about them. Genuinely thinks they’re so cool. Loves watching the fireworks, they’re all exhausted by the end of the day but Mihaly perks up just in time to fully appreciate them. They might shed a tear.
Jack Rose: Has a lovely time but doesn’t show it. He also loves meeting the princesses, he won’t admit it though. Mostly it’s the childlike joy but also he likes watching Wander interact with them. He also gets crushes on like half the princes (Wander says he has a type). He’s a big fan of the parades and the shows, but really he just likes everything. Night Swan would never let him go to Disney when he was little so he’s just so happy to be there. But of course if anyone asks him he’s just like “yeah it’s cool”, he doesn’t know how else to express himself

one thing about hbo is that when they get a journalist coming up to them and going “man do i have a fucked up story i want to follow” they really do let that person go wild. i’ve mentioned the way the ronan farrow one really moved me emotionally and that’s just because ronan knows how to investigate and tell a story to get you righteously angry for who it is he’s defending. he’s good at his job!
but this one, quiet on the set, has genuinely made my jaw drop a few times, even if i think some of the framing could have been better in the last episode. of course i know about all the rumors about dan schneider and the abuse on set, it’s hard to have been into the teen nick scene and not notice, and it’s pretty easy to figure out which kids were being harmed through too much attention and which were being harmed through not enough attention, and there’s been all sorts of rumors floating around for over a decade!
but the build up to the drake bell reveal was well handled, i thought. i was initially skeptical because i think it’s hard to make a documentary about child sexual abuse without leaning into being exploitative in some way. and at first, where you have the actors who left early, like katrina, or who you remember but weren’t mega famous like giovannie, and they’re all saying “this set was so weird & inappropriate, i knew something was wrong but i didn’t have the experience or vocabulary to say what” it feels a little too schlocky. like, oh we’re just kind of speculating on the inappropriate nature of dan’s “friendship” with amanda bynes for two episodes? yeah it is fucked up that two pedophiles were on that set, but did they hurt anyone on set?
and then drake bell walks into the room dressed like timmy turner and says it was me. he hurt me.
i can’t stop thinking about the choice of clothes here and the way it helps drive home the point of the doc. he’s sitting there in fairly odd parents colors as an adult and can’t describe the sexual trauma he experienced as a child still, has never spoken about it, had his mom lie to his father over it because he was so screwed up. really driving home the point that he was just a kid who had a knack for physical comedy and it got him preyed on by dan, a man who should have protected him, set up and handed over to a monster who traumatized him for months and years.
but when that reporter said she got a judge to let them unseal the court documents because drake bell told her how much support peck had? my jaw dropped, like yeah this is reporting, this is someone who saw this story and finally fucking cared not about the salacious details but about who knew what and why they did nothing to stop this from happening. it’s not about forcing drake bell or katrina jackson or alexa to live through the worst moments of their life - it’s about how so many people knew what was going on and didn’t do a god damn thing to stop it. it’s about how these monsters, these convicted pedophiles, were given access to little kids to hurt and traumatize and everyone knew and didn’t just look the other way, they actively helped cover it up. THATS the story. Not that it was an isolated tragedy but that it was a clinical, purposeful environment built by people who wanted to harm little kids.

Something that's been bugging me ever since Cassandra's Revenge first aired back in 2019 that I haven't for the life of me seen anyone else mention or talk about is that I genuinely can't for the life of me figure out how was Zhan Tiri released from her prison. Like I know how she was freed. "The clash of sun and moon released [her] from [her] prison." I know that, but like. How though???
The show would like you to believe that Zhan Tiri somehow just knew that creating a discord between the sundrop and moonstone and having their powers be used against each other would just open a portal in her exact location because *magic*. But there's so much grey area there. Its never once been established what would happen if the sun drop and moonstone's powers were used against each other. But they opened up a portal to the Lost Realm, the dimension she was imprisoned in by Demanitus. Okay, so does that mean that the sundrop and moonstone clashing opens portals to other dimensions? The sundrop and moonstone are both VERY powerful and supernatural objects, not of this earth, so it'd make sense that creating discord between such celestial powers can cause some type of weird instability in the literal fabric of time and space. Cool.. but with one plot hole closed, another one is opened.
If I choose to accept this hypothetical explanation, I still don't understand something: why the Lost Realm??? We know there are canonically more than two dimensions that exist because Zhan Tiri isn't from Corona's dimension and is certainly not from the Lost Realm, so why did the portal open in the Lost Realm? Fine, let's jump another great big gap to make the assumption that the clash of sun and moon could've opened a portal in any dimension and it just happened to open in the Lost one and Zhan Tiri was just REALLY REALLY optimistic that the portal would happen to open in her exact dimension in her EXACT location in her EXACT vicinity. Who knows maybe there's only like, 3 dimensions in existence y'know? Maybe Earth, Zhan Tiri's original dimension and the Lost Realm are all there is. I mean that's like a 1 out of 2 chance of a getting portal to another dimension who knows.
or maybe she was extremely lucky. i don't know.
