Does anyone have any experiences with chthonic deities?
For years I’ve had dreams of a pretty chthonic nature (O:) featuring certain recurring images and characters, it’s also a recurring theme during waking hours. It’s played a massive part in my life but I always maintained my interest in pagan gods/polytheism was totally academic since I wasn’t raised religious and didn’t want to seem crazy. I’m definitely at a point where I’m questioning that, for a while it had faded but after travelling to Greece and visiting the caves at Eleusis it’s come back. The idea of deities associated with death scares me though, I don’t want to tempt misfortune or something.

On Pluto
Pluto is the king of the underworld and lord of the dead and all things under the earth. He, along with his wife Proserpina, oversee the cycle of life and death, him being more closely connected to the state of death and her being more closely associate with life and rebirth. As ruler of all under the earth, wealth and jewels are also ruled over by Pluto, his name referring to wealth and one of his titles, Dis Pater meaning “rich father” according to some sources. He is also an agricultural god, protecting crops and the harvest.
Pluto is perhaps the sternest god, being somewhat distant and cold. But he is not cruel, he is merely honest about the state of things and does not attempt to really comfort or sugarcoat.
His symbols include dogs and the bident staff.
Festivals to Pluto were not, it seems, held regularly or at least the ones that were are poorly documented and as such we do not have their proper dates. It seems at least some rites honoring Pluto were held in times of need, such as plague or famine.

SAMOTES, known as Dis, at this time and in the same year as above, designed the laws of the Celts. He was the first king of the Gauls, according to Berossus, book 5. Caesar agrees, in the sixth book of his Commentaries, in these words: “The Gauls all declare that their descent is from Dis Pater.” At that time there was nobody more learned than Samotes, or wiser, and for this reason he was called Samotes. The Gauls were named Samoteae by him, for he brought them into a kingdom. Diogenes Laertius attests this in his Lives of the Philosophers. See Berossus as above.

Bystial Dis Pater
"1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner Dragon monsters You can target 1 banished LIGHT or DARK monster; Special Summon it to your field. When your opponent activates a monster effect (Quick Effect): You can target 1 banished card; shuffle it into the Deck, then if you shuffled it into your Deck, destroy that monster, or if you shuffled it into your opponent's Deck, negate that activated effect. You can only use each effect of 'Bystial Dis Pater' once per turn."

Painted my first 40k mini!
My goal with the pallet is to be greyscale with the exception of yellow energy and glow.
My custom forge world is Forge World Dis-Pater, a Dyson Sphere world with a 1920-30’s style of depression and oppression
Dis-Pater is a world that was built during the Golden Age of Technology and survived the Age of Strife on it’s own. Also post-strife, it’s a world that was first contacted by the Cult Mechanicus, rather than the Imperium.
First contact went well, they were “Liberated” and “saved”
Also we love flamers, they make for great riot control.

Fear of Chthonicism
So, after my post yesterday, (the answers were really helpful thank you)
confronting this properly for the first time and beginning to do some reading, I feel like other people’s beliefs and experiences do largely line up with mine. As muddled as they are. So maybe I’m not being naive and all chthonic and/or psychopomp type gods and associated traditions are not necessarily bad and to be avoided. There’s obviously a capacity to cause great fear, but I haven’t personally felt truly unsafe if that’s the right word. Maybe even the opposite.
I also see they’re more complicated than a single role. It makes sense since i “get” or associate (dk how to describe this, it’s so far outside the sphere of my pretty secular life experience so far) more images of dark earth, horses? (as status symbols?) gold/wealth/riches, plants (not “the wild” or the general Earth or fundament itself but the process of abundance coming from the soil, especially crops, rich fruits and dark leaves?) coldness, wetness, darkness and even peace, rather than the physical realities of death and bereavement. (This might be down to my own avoidance despite my job involving interacting with funerary goods and bodies)
It does raise a new problem…possibly about to pray to The CEO of The Bank???? :,((( (this is genuinely probably the best modern comparison I could make as much as I don’t want to lmao)
