A little something for my Dimensional Refugee Au
Danny gets a penthouse in metropolis, so he gets to see the rise of superheroes in this dimension as Superman came into the spotlight.
He also got to see the property damage.
The penthouse he got just so happened to be right up next to the ground zero for some massive weirdo fight with another Lazer toting fuck, so his windows are shattered, his tile floors are cracked, his wall has a massive burn streaking through it.
At some point, Danny's sitting on his couch just staring at the damage, and Superman comes in through and checks up on him and they get an interaction like this:
Superman: are you alright? Where are your parents?
Danny *forgetting he looks 14*: not... here?
Superman *extremely concerned*: why not?
Danny: they tried to kill me

List of current fandoms and corresponding AUs (under the cut):
Monday Fight Rankin (possibly an ex-name) - Ghost Town
Based on the lore around spirits. The main characters are chilling in a once-abandoned village (possibly fishing-based, but I haven't decided.) now inhabited by spirits called Ghost Town (literally). Mostly hidden from the rest of the world to prevent disruption of their peace, but regularly interact with the regular human-inhabited village nearby.
Rainworld: Hearth AU
Set around/after the Saints campaign, a still living iterator managed to move on from the Triple Affirmative, now taking care of a slugcat and scavenger colony, and is trying to rally other groups under her since y'know, the world is a freezing wasteland now.
Undertale- Tingetale
A hidden monster village on the surface managed to survive due to the power of said tinged souls but ended up getting discovered after the underground monsters were freed, now they have to adapt to modern society, or rather had.
Homestuck- Aphtraldis
Trolls are a bit different now, especially the hemospectrum/caste system, part of a group of species called Cinerians and are related to Carapacians through this.
Traditional trolls mostly exist in folklore only, as the Duskhorned.
Solarballs- Rhamnousian System
Set in the far future, in a red giant system, if you check the etymology of Rhamnousia, there are extra hints for lore. Otherwise, they are just chilling as the universe slowly dies.
Flatland- 6 Pals Perspective
Over many years in the past, some flatland refugees managed to escape the 2nd dimension, eventually accumulating. This resulted in the first flatlander village in the 3rd dimension being founded. The story is from the perspective of 6 kids in this village of varying shapes, from a triangle to an octagon. The biggest difference here is the saying "once a line, always a line" no longer holds in the 3rd dimension, the once lines collapsing into simply slimmer versions of shapes (painfully if they weren't born that way), like an in-between of Flatland the Movie and the Film, and everyone is somewhat irregular due to not being built for 3rd-dimensional gravity. Clinical irregularity, (not important anymore either, unless related to something like scoliosis or developmental issues) starts around a 10° deviation but also depends on side amount, basically if it looks lopsided enough, it's lopsided.
Dayshift at Freddys - N/A
Not quite a full AU but an idea where everything stays around the same, except there's a character that can interact with and get possessed by the kiddie ghosts willingly. She has to avenge their deaths or get pestered by them for the rest of her life, which would've been cut short already had The Incident leading to the ghost-seeing been successful.
DND - Whatever the DM (my classmate) calls it
Not my au, just characters but I'd like to spill how ridiculous mine are
The characters I've played as so far are:
A goblin ex-cleric monk (who became a monk because of going through the grilled cheese dimension) named Ooga Booga with freakishly high stats.
And my personal favorite, a tabaxi warlock named Dog who is JUST A KID and WORSHIPS A RAT, he hasn't been used yet actually but guy is literally a poor little meow meow, I got some sad lore for the two of em (even the patron) but I'll reveal that eventually ;) ALSO IN THE GROUP HES IN THERE A GUY THAT SACRIFICES CHILDREN SO PRAY FOR HIM-
Warrior Cats - Fellowship(s) of the Ming(ming)
OH MY GOD HOW COULD I FORGET THIS MY WHOLE SHTICK IS CATS-
Cats live in groups called Fellowships, which are further divided into smaller groups called Sects. There are only two Fellowships, those who live in the west of a mountain called the Nightlongers (not the final name including the other one, it's called that because the mountain blocks any sight of the actual sun for a while), and those who live in the east part are called the Daybracers (I think you can connect the dots)

I think some comments about the ship debates are very one dimensional and don’t take into account the growth these characters go through during the game.
Professor!Gale and spawn!Astarion doesn’t work for me much because by the end Gale doesn’t care about ambition and wants just to study comfortably in Waterdeep. While Astarion still wants to gain an influence in Baldur’s Gate. In this sense I think Duke!Wyll, or accepted by his father/stays in Baldur’s Gate!Wyll would run in all the same circles Astarion would want to be a part of. They would both enjoy schmoozing and partying until morning.
God!Gale and spawn!Astarion I think could work because it still gives Astarion the powerful connections he’d want. (Idk what life is like on Gale’s godly plane tho, might be too boring for Astarion?) God!Gale and ascended!Astarion? *Could* work, but the patch kiss scenes would have Gale erasing Astarion from existence, imo.
And this goes for all the characters too! Halsin isn’t going to abandon the (formerly known as) shadow-cursed lands and refugees. Dark Justiciar!Shart needs to stay in Baldur’s Gate to lead the Sharrans. Saves her parents!Shart is always going to find a quiet safe place for her parents to life out the rest of their lives.
Oblivious to Vlaakith’s corruption!Bae’zel is well…. you know. 😣 But maybe if someone powerful enough like god!Gale or ascended!Astarion or someone with connections powerful enough like Dark Justiciar!Shart could talk Vlaakith down to not ascending Lae’zel with the promise of aiding her with their godly powers.
The only way I think Karlach would end up with any of the “ascended” options is if she was still a naive 18yo and looked up to the ascended character the way she did Gortash.
And that’s just my musings on canon material. If a fic or a HC is going to put these characters in a totally AU situation, then the amount of growth/change and where they start on that process is up to the creator! This world is so rich and the characters have so many facets! Embrace the creativity this fandom can cultivate.

The ‘CORAL REEF’ by Vincent Callebaut Architectures, is Matrix and plug-in for the construction of 1000 passive houses, in
Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
The Coral Reef project plans a matrix to build a three dimensional and energy self-sufficient village from one and only standardised and prefabricated module in order to rehouse the refugees from such humanitarian catastrophes. This basic module is simply made of two passive houses (with metallic structure and tropical wood facades) interlocked in duplex around a transversal horizontal circulation linking every unit.

Man, I’m living for TFP Jack being a “spooky child” with a creature/magic! heritage. So what if by weird, bamboozling events, Jack and Optimus get taken by Quinsettons, they take an Interest in the boy, and shit goes so very wrong (or very right) with the process, and they end up in a different universe?
The Magic and Dimensional Hopping!AU with a tired, truck father and a deaged, amnesiac, magic bird-son:
When Jack fell deep into recharge, Optimus scanned his processor, gently probing into recent memories which are a mess between dark shadows cawing, bright red eyes, and cold hands clashing sterile grey walls and so many tools dripping and hanging from the ceiling from the Quinsetton ship.
Jack can’t remember anything. Nothing recent. Possible years. He has no recollection of the Autobots. Nor of Jasper. Optimus could pick out dense forests and urban cities in his mind.
Jack’s small. More like a bitlet than a mechling-near-adulthood. He onlines with small, chirring noises, calling out for parental comfort. Optimus hopes that some part of him subconsciously realizes who he is, but it’s more likely he’s responding to the soothing EM field coiled over him, Matrix quiet as it pulses calm towards him.
Optimus teaches Jack Neocybex and he picks it up relatively quickly. He still stumbles over Iaconic sentence structure and properly tagging subglyphs, but it’s enough to understand him.
This strange new universe has many similarities including languages, so Optimus is able to chart to different places and pick up news.
It is a different universe since there’s no response to the emergency codes, outposts that were once intact are completely gone as if never built, but drives a coldness to his spark is that the beginnings of the Civil War is far different and so much the same.
Cybertron is dark. But here the command for both Autobots and Decepticons have been lost for millions of years...
Whenever they meet other mecha, either scattered Cybertronians or other living mechanicals, they’re placated when Optimus tells them that his carrier is gone. Sparklings go a little strange when they outlive their carrier, after all...
Jack is essentially a child, a bitlet; which means he has the curiosity of one. He’s wandering off, wings fluttering and flicking as he chases after whatever catches his attention. His frame, however, has a habit of falling into complete silence, pulling his field totally inward; literally ghosting proximity sensors and motion detection.
Optimus gets so much practice on pinging after Jack since his boy likes to disappear so often. He tells himself he’s going to get a bell on that child... (He won’t, though. That habit is too useful, just in case.)
He’s very surprised how much of an animal lover little-Jack is since the teen-Jack didn’t have any pets or interests in them. (Here is something that Optimus doesn’t know, Jack still feeds the corvids that follow him over the years. They just linger outside the Autobot base. They know.)
Due to the Cybertronian civil war spreading throughout galaxies, there’s few planets willing to accept refugees from Cybertron or its colonies. They are, however, willing to accept them as crew for one-way, long-distance transports and long-term expeditions.
Optimus keeps Jack very close whenever they board onto a new ship or venture planetside and floating settlements. Letting him ride his shoulders or attach onto his back, making sure to feel the bright pulse of his field and keep track of it.
There are many civilizations technologically advanced enough to brute force their way into sapient metal species to see how to push their advancements further. With Cybertron’s voice in the political arena silenced, many would pay top credits to catch one since war tends to rack up many KIAs and MIAs, especially the younger ones with little forms of defenses to cut and hack into and easily transportable.
Even more so with Jack, his systems a cobble between cutting edge and throw backs; military-grade silencers and advanced ventilation systems to keep his frame silent; Optimus thinks he can find hints of multiple alt-modes on his frame. Jack would be priceless if caught..
Jack had taken to his Cybertronian frame with strange ease, able to scurry up walls with claws along with magnetic plates or use thrusters in short bursts, shifting his plating to pull tight against the protoform to get into cramped places.
Optimus also gets a lot of practice finding Jack in the strangest of places. Usually high up or hiding down low. Jack ventures off cooing over critters to come to him or playing hide-and-seek with him. (Jack’s really good at that game.)
Optimus doesn’t know if Jack has a very overactive imagination or if there’s actually something going on…
Jack enjoys feeding various wildlife, particularly in avian-like creatures. Raptors and scavengers tend to perch near or on him. Sometimes they leave little tokens. A few actually swooped down to attack someone.
A few times Jack refuses to leave Optimus’ side, terrified of a place until they leave. (Optimus sees shadows from the corner of his optics, stretching and lengthening towards them, fear freezing in his energon lines, and keeps watch until morning.)
Whenever Jack falls into recharge surrounded by light-pens and datapads full of sketches. Optimus finds their recent ventures. But he worries over the various humanoid beings -bodies in strange, off-putting contortions; faceless with too many limbs and eyes. So many red eyes and a dog on fire.
“I miss them, papa. I miss mama and Liam.”
“Who’s Liam?”
“My dog.”
There’s times he catches Jack speaking to animals and empty spaces.
Between his soft words and giggles, Optimus can hear someone else speaking...

The thing about writing a Dragon Age x Star Trek crossover in which Jadzia and Isabela conspire to turn their AU adventure into a cross-dimensional, slightly smutty holo-novel is that you know Bashir and O’Brien are gonna go check it out and possibly fall in love with their own DA counterparts...
“Julian, Miles...” Jadzia turns from her seat at the bar. “I can’t help but notice you’re in different costumes today.”
“Yes, well…” Julian stammers, while O’Brien blushes behind him.
“Did Quark get some kind of new ‘medieval fantasy pirate’ holo-novel? Or are you both just trying out a new look?”
“We didn’t realize you’d written it!” O’Brien blurts out.
Julian gives him a betrayed look. “Not until we’d already gotten heavily invested in the...uh, plot…”
Jadzia smiles. “I just need to know what you thought of the healer?”
“Handsome fellow…” Julian nods. “Charming, even. Seemed to be working for a good cause.”
O’Brien shakes his head. “I found him a bit too smarmy and self-righteous. I really felt for the kid-brother...the refugee? The one traveling with his sisters and his mother? Seems everyone was always under-estimating him.”
“Perfect.” Jadzia nods. “Yes. Poor Carver.”
“The pirate captain, though...she seemed very familiar.”
“Yes…” Julian taps his finger to his lips. “I can’t quite put my finger on who she reminded me of...”
“Oh?” Jadzia tilts her head to the side, trying to hide her devious smirk. “Let me know next time you run it. I’d love to join you!”

What can architects do to improve the quality of housing projects? Share your thoughts in the comments! The ‘CORAL REEF’ by Vincent Callebaut Architectures, is Matrix and plug-in for the construction of 1000 passive houses, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Description provided by architect: Called «The Pearl of West Indies», Haiti was during a long time the most visited country of the Greater Antilles representing the occidental third of Hispaniola Island. Devastated in 2010 by an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, the country has now to be rebuilt from new innovative architectural and town-planning concepts. #coralreef #coral #haiti #sustainable #reuse #recycle #reduce #renewableenergy #zerowaste #seismicdesign #landscape #sea #caraïbes #nature #housing #fabrication #digitalfabrication #fabricate #digitaldesign #computationaldesign #design #designer #parametric #grasshopper3d #rhinoceros3d #parametricarchitecture #parametricdesign #architecture #architect #architectureporn (at Haïti) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGj9U3WhrcC/?igshid=ttxwd3ifzxbq

Isn't sad how all those children preferred to live in a dark cave, caged, all being used as test subject for Orochimaru's bizarre experiments, living like animals, than in their natal villages with their "companions"?
F***ING WEBSITE FROM HELL I F***ING DELETED THAT F***ING META BECAUSE I CLICKED BACKSPACE ONE TIME TO MANY F**K THIS okay here we go again because I thought hard about this and I’m not gonna let it go.
SO. I think Orochimaru is a far more interesting character when written as a cult leader for outcasts than with just the children-snatching psychopath view, because we don’t get the impression that he coerces people into following him. There’s no doubt he did some abducting but that’s not the core of his recruitment strategy.
It was a strong theme at the beginning of the story with Zabuza and Haku – how far would you go for the first person to ever show you kindness and give you safety, even if it was for selfish reasons, even if they’re terrible people? I seem to recall Naruto thinking something along the lines of “I was lucky it was Iruka for me, had it been someone else…” and relating to Haku’s loyalty to Zabuza despite knowing he was just a mean to an end. It makes for great AUs too – what if Naruto had latched onto someone less recommendable than nice Iruka? It's too bad that line of thinking was dropped because it also served as a harsh criticism of their world, the fact that it produces so many bitter, abandoned orphans that have no choice but to turn to brutal mercenaries and unhinged scientists. The shinobi world created many of its own enemies, within and outside the villages.
I don’t think the kids “prefer” to live that way, but they would still be starving in the streets or abused by their village without Orochimaru, so it’s normal to do whatever he wants in return, right? Including kill or fight each other to death or subject themselves to whatever he wants to test on them… Of course it’s textbook recipe for abuse, the “you owe me” card. He takes full advantage of this, that they have nowhere else to go, that they will owe him. He also makes it even harder for them to go back, what with the body modifications and making it to every village’s shit list with the killing and stuff he has them do.
(more under the cut cause that got a bit out of hand)
He basically runs a cult – he’s shown to be charismatic, having a great power of attraction and persuasion, and he doesn’t treat them that badly, I mean in a way we often see bad guys do, being belittling and acing them off for fun just to show he’s eeeeevil. He does give them what they want, safety, shelter, power, companionship, purpose. I can imagine him playing the benevolent card for a while before introducing his newest refugee to the downside of getting under his wing. He preys on the vulnerable and they come willingly.
It’s most likely their only option, including once they’re in and realize they’re really not into this after all. It’s not like any of them was ever offered a way out – what would they do if they left, who would help them? The shinobi world doesn’t seem big on rehabilitation, for all Naruto’s “villain-turning-good” powers. Most of them pay their “redemption” and their return to the light by death anyway. Would be too hard to actually question their morality and choices and see what they would become if they went back to the world…
Ironically enough the only one who sort of gets that is Orochimaru lmao but it doesn’t count because there was no redemption nor questioning of any kind they just decided he got to stay and not be held accountable for any of his actions. And I don’t know why any of us is surprised by this actually or why we expected better we should be used to this by now. Ah. Moving on.
As the kids grow up, they would either develop a stronger sense of morality/self-worth and wouldn’t be able to go along with this shit anymore, no matter how grateful they are to him, or they would stay blindly loyal. Or they would just be dead, dying, or imprisoned and unable to escape heh. I guess some would also take a deeper turn because since this world sucks so much and abandoned them why wouldn’t they wreak havoc in it on his orders? He must play on this too because he IS outside and against the system and it would attract those who seek revenge against it, even if he serves his own interests above the "Strike back at the System" cause. It served him well when he was in Konoha after all and isn’t that his biggest grievance in the end? That he played within its constraint and was still cast out, because he crossed a line he didn’t even know was there? We don’t get a feeling that he’s inherently against the whole child-soldiers/kill for hire/waging pointless wars thing, on the contrary it suits him quite well, but the problem was the hypocrisy, that they condone those things but still try to take the moral high ground.
I’m sorry but I can only imagine Orochimaru being like “assassination ok torture for information ok civilian casualties ok sacrifice anything for the village including your health life and those of your friends ok train to death and do whatever it takes to get stronger ok experiment on people… no?” I’m not trying to justify his actions but just, how is anyone surprised by how some of them turned out? I think we saw people like this among his followers, you know who were trained to kill from a young age, but when they got a taste for it and went outside the mission frame, the villages were like "huh huh no no” and they went ???? excuse me how was I supposed to cope with being made into an assassin as seven apart from convincing myself that this was all fine and fun actually? And of course the classic “I lived in a cage/I was driven from my home at 5/I was enslaved, and this guy comes around and offers a way out was I just supposed to say no?”.
(This apply to Sasuke too by the way, because had this boy been given some freaking support as a child he wouldn’t have made it his lifelong goal to kill his brother while disregarding absolutely everything else in his life and Orochimaru played him like a damn flute and someone should just have… seen this coming. Or just NOT have the entire Uchiha clan pointlessly wiped off but that’s another point entirely)
The lines of who is good and who is bad in Naruto are very foggy. Murder is not a criterion, child abuse either, so what? At some point we have to acknowledge that the characters who are "good" in Naruto are simply the ones we're told are on the good guys' side. I mean it’s a valid morality system – being good means serving your village. Whatever you do to that end is okay. It’s exactly Danzo’s mentality and it's easy to see where it comes from, it is how their world is built. It’s also how they manage to say with a straight face that Itachi was a good guy actually, and you can build a story on that, you can put it into question.
But the story doesn’t commit to this. It still tries to tell us that being mean and killing people is bad, when half of those characters are paid assassins for freak’s sake, when the good guys have an entire clan build on arbitrary slavery, when they massacred one of their own clan. Once again it started right with Zabuza, when they make the characters (and us) realize that the only thing opposing them is that they have different employers. Zabuza isn’t bad because he’s a mean guy who kills people, he’s bad because he gets in the way of their mission. Of course he conveniently works for an asshole while they work for the guy trying to lift his community from its shithole, but that’s not why they help him. They help him because he pays them to so.
Anyway, going back to the topic at hand and concluding this long-ass rant, it’s hard to infer whether Orochimaru sees them solely as pawns and expendables bodies or if he has any form of attachment to them or some to them. I found his writing to be very inconsistent and not compelling at all because it never dwells into these topics, and the narration can’t make up its mind about him. But I don't like to cast him as just a one-dimensional evil psychopath because that's… bad, y’know, and I don’t think the number of people willing to follow him should be dismissed. In many ways Orochimaru and his people him are a direct product of their world
That got out of hand really fast but. Well. You’re right. It’s sad.

So I've recently discovered your ffxv aus. I haven't played the game, and it will be at least two weeks until I can play the game because I will be visiting family and away from my ps4, but I adore all of your aus I've read so far. And due to the fact that I've been reading up on them, basically one after the other, and you have all kinds of xovers happening. And I'm curious, how do you think the Galahdians from thrown to the wolves verse would react to Nox and his uncle?
Oooohhhh I hope you have a nice visit with your family and YES GOOD. TRY THE GAME IT’S GOOD.
*cracks knuckles* this is gonna be FUN (and probably long, and probably way angsty).
Short version- TOTAL HORROR.
Long version:
-they- they have no idea how to react. Here is an Ardyn who is, well, on the SURFACE he’s fine, but their Ardyn isn’t that flamboyant and his smiles aren’t that sharp unless he doesn’t feel SAFE and that means this one doesn’t feel safe around them, doesn’t RECOGNIZE THEM as family. He has no braids in his hair and his clothes are not Lazarus make and he calls himself IZUNIA rather than ULRIC or even Lucis Caelum. He stares at them with sharp eyes, his shoulders just a shade too tense to be normal and they- they KNOW Ardyn. Better than this Ardyn knows himself at this point. They can see that he’s a half-step away from drawing his armiger on them if they prove to be a threat.
-And Nox- oh NOX. They do not understand who he is at first. That he is supposed to be REGIS’S child because he’s- idk probably 15 in this mini x-over and so physically only about 8 years younger than the Regis currently staring at him with wide eyes. They don’t understand why he calls Ardyn Uncle and not Grandfather or Sage, but they can see the Arra braid in his hair that is not a marriage braid and that- that makes no sense. Adopted LCs are always given to the Ulrics???
-What do you mean you weren’t rescued as a child, are you not one of those abandoned by the Kinslayers??
-What do you mean you weren’t born in the Citadel or with royal knowledge? You’re an illegitimate? Oh .... okay so who is your father and why is Ardyn your Uncle.
-WHAT DO YOU //MEAN// YOUR FATHER IS REGIS AND HE DOESN’T KNOW YOU EXIST AND THAT YOUR MOTHER WAS ARDYN’S SISTER????????????
-There is- a LOT of rage and grief and horror as they drag the (cover) story out in bits and pieces from Nox and Ardyn even as they bundle them up in the nearest safe place and fuss like crazy over them. The Galahdians know Ardyn’s secret, even if they politely don’t tell this Ardyn that, so they come to believe an adapted version of the cover story.
-They think that Ardyn was never freed. That- that either the Vitae never managed to free him, or WORSE, judging by Nox’s answers to a few of their questions, Vitae, the first Vitae, Ardyn’s child, never survived to reach Galahd. Galahd had no magic. No one was left to Remember Ardyn. No one was left to SAVE HIM. They think that he was LEFT THERE for centuries upon centuries until NIFLHEIM found him, dragged him free and tormented him, used him. Forced some unknown name on him and humiliated him. Their Grandfather, their Sage, the heart of their history, Forgotten and stolen away, driven mad by the Kinslayer’s cruelties and Niflheim’s lies.
-They believe that Ardyn ... found Nox, an illegitimate LC child who was unknown to both Clan and Kinslayers, that even in his madness, the Sage’s Heart reached out to the boy and took him in, even if he treated him horribly at first because of his own traumas. They believe (not ... totally incorrectly) that Ardyn made up the story of Nox being his sister’s son so he’d have an excuse to keep Nox around, keep him SAFE and teach him magic. That it was Nox who tore Ardyn free of Niflheim’s web and has helped patch him together into the man they are meeting today.
-They internally seethe at Nox’s scars, his soft voice and wary flinches, because that leads to a lot of other theories on JUST WHAT his blood family was like to him before Ardyn Claimed him.
-Then Nox whispers of the refugee that took him into the Arra Clan, of a people scattered to the winds and forced to unite under the Kinslayer’s banner and service and all of Galahd WAILS at the realization that they HAD NO MAGIC WHEN NIFLHEIM CAME. THAT GALAHD IN THAT WORLD IS FALLEN because Mors pulled back the Wall and THEY HAD NO MAGIC TO RAISE THEIR OWN.
-Regis and Co hover in a nearby corner and Clarus has to physically hold Regis upright because his legs are jello and his heart is SCREAMING at the sight of a son who doesn’t know him, who glances at him with some sort of ... primal fear and regret and longing yet never dares come close or look at him for more than a minute. This child of HIS who wears an Arra braid but is so new to the Clan he barely knows what it means to be adopted. This boy who is covered in scars and underweight, who speaks softly and sometimes stares vacantly into the distance like he’s gotten lost inside his own head and can’t find his way back out.
-This boy who huddles into Ardyn’s side and calls him Uncle, clings to him like he is the only trusted anchor (and in another world, that is understandable, but this doesn’t look like a reaction to being in another world, this looks like HABIT and that means both Nox and Ardyn are so very, very alone.)
-They take the two to their Ardyn, because of course they do. Who better to figure out how to undo the dimensional travel (who best to know how to help these two lost souls who need family and are unaware of all they could have had but lost)?
-Nox and his Ardyn take one look at Sage Ardyn and freeze. They can feel the Scourge still lingering under his skin, weak as it is. Nox’s Ardyn recoils, something like primal terror in his gaze (don’t let it close don’t let it infect not-again-please-not-again) but Nox lunges, ripping free of his uncle’s grip to crash into the startled Sage, grabbing his hands and pulling with his magic. White starfire unspools from his soul, pushes against his skin until it turns to the color of ash and cracks form along his hands-arms-neck-face, like jagged lines of a poorly repaired piece of pottery, his magic gleaming through the cracks like he’s going to come apart under the strain.
-The Sage screams as Nox wraps his magic around what is left of the Scourge in his not-Uncle’s blood and burns it.
-Nox’s scream mingles with the Sage’s as the Scourge writhes into the air, seeking an escape, any escape, and fails. Black dissolves into nothing and Nox crumples, wheezing and shaking as his Ardyn finally snaps out of his horror and catches him before he can hit the ground. Sage Ardyn staggers, wild-eyed and in shock, but ... free. Cured. Clear. All of Galahd surges forward with a cry, worried for their Sage and outraged at the Kinslayer Child who attacked him but Sage Ardyn holds up a hand and they still.
-He stares, in terrible grief and knowing and understanding down at Nox, who isn’t entirely coherent anymore as he shakes and shivers in his Uncle’s arms, and whispers, “Chosen King of Crystal, Bringer of Dawn, Lost Child and Last of his Line.”
-”No,” snaps Nox’s uncle from where he clings to Nox, something desperate as blue eyes meet former-gold-now-blue, “No. He is Nox. Nox Izunia of the blood of Lucis Caelum. Eldest, but not only, son of Regis Lucis Caelum.” There’s something wild in Nox’s uncle’s gaze as he looks up at the Sage, like he’s trying to convey something without actually saying it in front of the assembled Clans, “He is my nephew. No more. No less.”
-And Sage Ardyn, who is suddenly purified, Sage Ardyn, who FELT all of Nox’s power and age and regrets and stubborn, fragile soul in those moments were the Scourge burned away from his veins, Sage Ardyn who saw time unspool and unwind in Nox’s soul and realized this boy is so much more than an illegitimate child (not illegitimate at all, just displaced, lost and cast out of his own fate and time by the power of his own stubbornness and a lot of magic) ... understands what his counterpart is saying.
-Don’t tell them.
-Let us stay secret. Let us stay safe.
-He bows his head in acquiescence and instructs the Clans to house them in the best lodgings they have to offer. To let Nox rest in privacy and peace with his Uncle, as thanks for what he just did. He looks Regis and then Aulea in eye, as if seeing something about them they cannot fathom, then smiles for the Clans and tells them He Is Free. Nox has finished what the Clans started.
-All the Clans celebrate for their Sage, but at the same time they Mourn for the two displaced souls they know they cannot keep. That they must return to their lonely dimension of fractured Clans and too-heavy secrets.
-Regis spends the week it takes them to return lingering nearby Nox and Ardyn, and two days in Ardyn rolls his eyes and invites the man to sit down with them already. Nox eyes this younger, earnest, unbroken Regis warily, but drinks in the time spent with him and Aulea (Nox’s mother, this woman is his MOTHER, if from another time and place).
-After they return home, Regis ... Regis spends a very long time walking the cliffs of Galahd, listening to the wind and ... thinking.
-”Your kid,” Nox had blurted right before they disappeared, his gaze snapping to Aulea and Regis with a strange sort of gleam in his eyes, “If- if you have a son- can you- name him Noctis?”
-”Not Nox?” Aulea had asked while clinging to Regis’s hand.
-Nox had smiled, too sad and fragile for someone so unbelievably strong in magic, “No,” he had answered “I don’t think Nox is going to exist in your world.” As as he faded from that reality, Regis just barely heard him finish-
-”And I hope he never has to.”
-Eventually Regis goes home, eventually he and Aulea do have a son. They name him Noctis.
-And a few years later, when Noctis is still just a child, Ramuh comes to Regis and Aulea while they watch their son sleep and tells them, soft and neutral, that Noctis will be the Chosen King.
-And they both stop breathing as they think of that moment, where the Sage named Nox King of Crystal and Bringer of Dawn. They think of a boy too old for his skin and with magic so strong it threatened to crack him open and turn him to ash and endlessly ropes of scars.
-They think of the words “And I hope he never has to.”
-And suddenly they understand.
-Regis turns to Ramuh, eyes glittering with magic and power and all the towering Rage of a father who has already seen the fate of his child, and rumbles with the power of the Storm, “No. Not my son.”
-Ramuh merely tilts his head, watching placidly as Bahamut’s chains of prophecy shudder and shake before his eyes, “The Scourge must be purified.”
-”Then we will do it. The Clans will rise for War,” snaps Aulea with static in her curls and lightning on her tongue, “The Clans will Rise and Rage and we will purify the Taint together. But Bahamut cannot have our son.”
-And Ramuh laughs softly, as the chains snap and dissolve into nothing before his Sight, and he feels Prophecy come unwound, “Then you have my Blessing to try. You and all who walk the Isles.”
(welp this got stupid long, but hope you enjoy!)

Character Study: Petunia Evans Part 2/2
In Part 2, we cover different takes on the character of Petunia Evans: as a parent, a reluctant adventurer or a refugee.
3. A Different Fate by lordhellebore
Premise: What if Harry was affected by surviving the Killing Curse?
Status: Complete
Read it on ff.net
Proportionally speaking, there aren’t many stories that encompass disability in the magical world. This story isn’t so much a character study on Petunia Evans as she was in canon, but instead how her character could have been if she was the parent of a special-needs child.
I love that the story was told through a series of drabbles - it allowed the character’s journeys to feel poignant without becoming too angsty. I also really liked how it managed to do quite a few sub-plots within its short word count - it helped fulfill my own curiosity for how surviving the killing curse would affect Harry, his family and the Wizarding World.
Rating: 3.5 / 5
4. flowers and time: An Evans’ Story by smolder
Premise: AU - Petunia has a miscarriage, which makes her take Harry in differently than in canon.
Status: Complete
Read it on ff.net
This is a slice-of-life story with Petunia accepting Harry as her own. The love and support that Petunia and Harry provided each other was done so well, and it was nice to see both characters have that.
It has sadly, not been updated since 2014, so I wouldn’t recommend this story for anyone who prefers completed works.
Rating: 3 / 5
5. We Would All Be Happier by TheDivineComedian Premise: How Petunia comes to accept Harry living with her
Status: Complete
Read it on AO3
There’s something so fun about stories that take one-dimensional characters and make them someone compelling and thoughtful. The way this story is written, it makes Petunia’s story plausible and somehow more thrilling because it feels as if it could slot right into canon.
Other things I really liked: how flawed (but likable) all the characters in this story were, Petunia’s relationship with Vernon, and the cattiness of the residents of Privet Drive (anonymous notes about crying babies, honestly!)
Rating: 4 / 5
6. The Peculiar Resilience of the Refugee by Squibstress
Premise: After the war, Petunia lives at the Three Broomsticks
Status: Complete
Read it on AO3
This was the story I was least excited to read, but somehow the one I ended up enjoying the most.  I really liked how Petunia (and Dudley) got a second chance at life and found their own place within the magical world. Stories like this are the ones that make me so grateful for fanfiction - the creativity, the passion that fanfic writers have for their stories is always so heartwarming.
I don’t want to call this story happy, but it certainly has a tinge of hopefulness running through it. This is the story I’d point to for my favorite examples for heart-warming stories.
Rating: 4.5 / 5

Legs v: Dimensional Refugees info masterpost.
Ace’s reference post in advance of her pony reboot has reminded me that I haven’t done an info reference for Legs in v: Dimensional Refugees, her crossover verse into a normal MLP setting. I know it’s kind of weird to describe an MLP fan character’s verse as being a crossover with MLP, but the AU setting she’s from is so radically different from the main series that I can take her out of the AU, but I can’t take the AU out of her.
The Tartarus AU is a fusion crossover most quickly described as “A deconstruction-reconstruction rewrite of the Avernum series of shareware RPGs by Spiderweb Software, but with ponies and it goes off the rails.”
Please be advised that, given the general tone and content of the Avernum side of the source material, the Tartarus AU is inextricable from some heavy themes that My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic would not address with a hundred-foot pole (genocide is the big one). Please also be advised that, although Legs is a Party creature and naturally inclined toward cheerful chaos and More Cartoony Physics Than Baseline, she also has some pretty serious PTSD (multiple wars, multiple assassination attempts, deaths of friends and loved ones due to war and assassins, has been forced to flee her home to protect her children) and is still grieving for her most recent losses.
If any of that is Nope Town for you, I strongly suggest that you skip past this post. Because of that, and because it’s 16 bullet points long, I’m putting it under a cut.
Tartarus was originally a subterranean penal colony. Before that, it was intended to be a mass grave where Empress Daybreaker, tyrant of the entire surface of the world, could dispose of subjects who co mmitted “soft” crimes where direct execution would upset the public. Examples of soft crimes include but are not limited to: Criticising the Empire (just “the Empire”; there are no other surface nations left to disambiguate from) or the Empress in any way, publicly doubting the divinity of alicorns, unintentionally rendering goods or services to a rebel, being on the losing side of a political power struggle, and not fitting in. A sentence could also be lowered to “exile” in Tartarus if that would cause less fuss. Deaths out of sight are deaths out of mind
Tartarus is now a self-governing kingdom under King Star Russet. Most Tartarite ponies are either willing immigrants from the Empire or the grandchildren of the exiles who survived out of resourcefulness and spite.
Legs, along with Tempest Shadow and Moss Rose, assassinated Empress Daybreaker with the assistance of the exiled Nightmare Moon. Her successor, Empress Cadance, was under mind control by Princess Midnight Sparkle for over five years, during which Midnight prepared her army and waged a revenge war against Tartarus. Since being freed by Midnight’s death, Empress Cadance has been gradually but surely making the Empire less of a fascist dystopia. She’s playing a long game, and it’s a precarious balancing act between fixing things and avoiding assassination from holdouts who believed in or benefitted from Daybreaker’s policies.
Queen Legs Dragonfriend has derailed the course of Avernum canon, and the Kingdom of Tartarus is part of the Hypogeal Federation, rather than the only nation left at their cave level after killing off or assimilating most other sapients. (Avernum’s narrative roots in oldschool D&D give it a very... problematic take on goblins, ogres, giants, and sapient “monsters” like drakes. Tartarus is, in this regard, a fixfic.)
The Hypogeal Federation is an alliance of many smaller nations and groups. It was founded with the goal of peaceful coexistence, cooperation, and safe passage that benefits all member states. Many nonponies have emigrated to Tartarus and vice versa.
Due to rising populations, crowding has become an issue, and creatures of all kinds are progressively being forced to expand into increasingly hard-to-access cave systems. A devastating canon mushroom blight has been averted, but a militant hate group calling themselves “the Defenders of Tartarus” has developed. The “Defenders” believe that they would have land and wealth, if only Tartarus had continued the Extermination of Nonponies that the Daybreaker had started. The Kingdom of Tartarus is currently in a state of civil war.
As an unaging changeling queen, over a hive with a very high proportion of well-trained diplomats, Legs and her brood have spent the last sixty or seventy years being the face of interspecies peace talks.
They’re called the Dragonfriend Hive because Legs founded her hive in Denton, a small town that formed in front of the lair of Motrax, an aged and uncommonly social dragon who has been one of Legs’s closest friends since the early days of her adventuring career.
A concerningly well-prepared “Defender” militia attacked Denton in an attempt to kill both Legs and Motrax. They succeeded in killing Motrax, and without a dragon, Tartarus cannot spare the forces to protect such a small and out-of-the-way settlement. Denton becomes a ghost town almost overnight, abandoned by evacuating survivors. The Dragonfriends’ founding hive sits empty.
In v: Dimensional Refugees, Legs and her hive have escaped through a well-hidden world mirror to a recognizable version of MLPworld. They’ve taken on the hive name Palecave because MLPworld’s dragons are Very Different than pony!Avernumworld’s and Legs’s brood shares her pastels-on-white hypopigmentation and heightened vulnerability to sunburn.
The Palecaves’ official cover story is almost entirely the truth, just downplaying the scale of the caves and without the world-hopping: Legs is a long-estranged daughter of Chrysalis who originally founded her own subterranean hive in lands far away enough that an Equestria that canon-compliantly knew almost nothing about many of their geographically-close neighbors would have a very hard time disproving. They’re fleeing species-motivated violence and would rather not go into detail.
Tartarusverse has many different changeling queens with no or distant relation to Chrysalis, and, by default, I assume the same is true in MLPverse, but they’re far away and Chrysalis is a pariah on account of being a chronic backstabber. Legs makes it known that Chrysalis is her mother anyway, because she very much wants to head off any squicky awkwardness with Thorax or Pharynx (who have Tartarusverse alternates) by making it clear they have the same mother. (In Tartarusverse, changelings’ genders are purely social and they can change biological sex at will, and the biggest shortcut in changeling-changeling diplomacy between unrelated queens is to genetically invest in each other’s brood. Emphasis on unrelated. Tartarusverse reproductive-caste changelings can only conceive with each other to begin with, so it’s the diplomacy that’s a pragmatic addition to what they were already doing, not the other way around.)
Because Tartarusverse changelings have a eusocial insect family structure (i.e. the queen is usually everyone’s mom, and "everyone” is usually in the hundreds or thousands), they socially distinguish between clutchmates (hatched from the same clutch of eggs and were raised at the same time) and broodmates (have the same mother). Technically the closest human/pony terms would be “sibling” for broodmate and something like “quatrodectuplets” for clutchmates, (And that would accurately reflect the squick levels being dodged in the above point!). In practice, mammals look at you weird when you say “quatrodectuplets”, so changelings usually use sibling terms for clutchmates and say something descriptive (e.g. “We’re of the same brood” or “we have the same mother”) for broodmates. Thorax and Pharynx are clutchmates with each other, and broodmates with Legs. Due to timeline incompatibilities, Legs is from a younger clutch than Thorax and Pharynx in Tartarusverse, but an older one in MLPverse (in continuities where she had an MLPverse alternate to begin with).
In continuities where Legs had an MLPverse alternate at tall, Chrysalis killed her alternate, and Tartarusverse!Legs in for a nasty surprise when or if Chrysalis recognizes her. (If you’re playing a Chrysalis, this is definitely something I’d want to discuss in DMs beforehand. We don’t need to work this piece of backstory in if you don’t want to, but if you do want us to go with this, then I’d like for us to hammer out some details for how it went with your specific Chrysalis.)
My interpretation of changelings (and thus the Tartariteverse changelings) are, well, my interpretation. If you’re playing a changeling or if your interpretation of changelings would otherwise come up, I’m 100% down for a “different worlds have different rules” handwave.
Legs is poly, and Tartarusverse!Tempest Shadow is her main partner. That relationship takes priority.

Big long list of all the fic stuff I’ve got, for @ruelukas22 ‘s perusal (or anyone else if they’re interested.
Fic I’ve got lots of notes on
* FFXV- Ardyn+Gil=Daughter. A SI fic of me keeping on dying. Also has afab Ardyn split between a culture where the first child inherits, and one where the first son inherits, and lots of Solhiem world building
* Avatar the last Airbender- Avatar Ty Lee. Lots of quick unhappy lives of the avatars till Ty Lee, granddaughter of an air refugee accidentally bends air.
* Naruto & MCU- Blotched Reincarnation. The Avengers are supposed to reincarnate in Naruto as the Rookie 13+kids, but something went horribly wrong, and now they’re all ghosts trying to parent these kids , because their actual parents aren’t doing a very good job, are they?
* Worm- Family Quest. Taylor Herbert does not have powers. What she does have is some very ... interesting relatives coming for Christmas.
* Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic- Many, Many Reasons Why The Endar Spire Is A Terrible Place To Work. Lisa is a pissed off semi-ex smuggler who’s serving on the Endar Spire, and nothing else.... Right?
* Batman- O Child of Gotham. An ordinary Gothamite teacher looks up a few things for her students, and stumbles across something far bigger than she knows.
* Bleach & Naruto- Urban Fantasy Kaguya. Kaguya has kept her sons hidden from their shinigami father for a long time, but his blood is starting to manifest in the twins.
* FFXV- Titan’s people. If all the other Astrals can patronise a people and place, why can’t this one.
* D&D- Amnesia D&D. In either a fantasy Au or with an actual d&d game, everyone wakes up completely mindwiped in a dungeon and have to work out who they are, what they can do, and why they were mindwiped.
* Naruto & Jurassic Park/World- Raptor Sakura. Sakura Harano, at 5 years old, ends up on the Dinosaur summoning contract. She then raises a pack of velociraptors.
* Naruto & Others- Infinite Loops style thing. Team 7 are bouncing from universe to universe trying to get home, waking up in other fandoms as other characters, and basically mucking about trying to get home.
* Naruto- Kaguya. Backstory of how Kaguya went from abandoned baby in a rice field, emperors concubine, pregnant woman on the run, and finally Goddess.
* Naruto- Mito Sensei. Mito Senju reincarnates, nearly gets taken into ROOT, and passes as boring, till Naruto is born as she becomes a teacher to take care of him. Then things get out of hand.
* Naruto- Seer Sakura. Sakura is a completely Done TM seer who is just trying to live, but the only way involves all these completely ridiculous people.
* Naruto- Zetsu is Best Uncle. Zetsu is mostly canon, but then sees the reincarnations of his nephews and decides that his Mum might like Grandkids to spoil. Things are surprising fluffy.
Things I only have the premise and a few sentences for
* Naruto & any fandom- Another Blotched Reincarnation. The same premise, but any other characters ending up as ghost-mentor.
* Mass Effect- Baby Prothian. The Beacon at the start of of Mass Effect 1 has a baby Prothian inside in suspended animation, and assigns Shepard as the new mum, plugging in required information to take care of a Prothian toddler at the same time as all the visions of destruction.
* Naruto- Happy Modern Sage Family. Fluffy AU where we follow adventures of the brothers Naruto and Sasuke, who are looked after by their old blind gran kayagua, and their sketchy uncle. Their dad is in a coma, and their other uncle works on the other side of the world but video chats sometimes.
* Harry Potter- Harry Potter’s got Voices in his head! Harry has a link to the afterlife in his head thanks to the killing curse, and gets raised by an eclectic collection of ghosts from all times and societies.
* Any Fandom- Horror is an outside Point of View. A story never from the point of view of the main character, who has travelled back in time to fix everything, and is a toddler showing impossible knowledge. It’s written like one of those “possessed child” horror movies.
* Mass Effect- Mass Effect Time Travel 1. The entire crew of the Normandy travels back in time- to a time when the most of them are 5 years. Que bafflement when a bunch of kids, a Prothian being relentlessly flirted with by a teenage asari and a baby krogan corner a spectre and yell at him that he mustn’t listen to the squid-robots.
* Mass Effect- Mass Effect Time Travel 2. Shepard time travels to the start of the game, and because of the conclusion of the games, is regarded by the enemies as a very small reaper. This makes the fights a lot easier but brings up some very awkward questions from her bosses. Also annoys some people on the citadel when none of the doors stay locked for her.
* Miraculous Ladybug & KHR or Game of thrones- tentative lining up the Miraculous with flame types and the gods of the seven.
* Naruto & Mass Effect- Hunting God Trees. The earth in Mess Effect is replaced with a post-canon Naruto world. They are appropriately ninja about how much info they give the Citadel council, and have been expected the return of Kaguyas species for over a century.
* Worm & Other Fandom- Queen Admin gets Adventurous. In either their death scene, or another do-or-die situation, a character from another fandom triggers with a power tailored (pun completely intended) to their situation, but still under the purview of Administration.
* Naruto & Other Fandom- Epic Sakura time. Just, an epic female character reincarnates as Sakura and kicks ass.
* Naruto & Dishonoured. Marked Sakura. During the Mission to Wave, Sakura is taken as a hostage/collateral/slave. She is then marked by the Outsider, fights her way out, and must hide her abilities from Konoha so she isn’t assumed to have a new bloodline and bred for it.
* Naruto- Sakura, Daughter of the Sage. Indra and Asura had a younger sister named Shashi. Zetsu killed her as an infant and kept doing so, keeping the remaining sibling out of balance and fighting. Due to the whole fourth dead and kyubi attack thing, he doesn’t find her as she’s being born- the only time he can track her- and the baby is named Sakura.
* Any Fandom- Urban Fantasy Police. an underfunded police station filled solely by supernatural beings -but none of them know that any of the others are non-human.
* Worm & Naruto- Shino cannot Flirt. Taylor Hebert, the big controller, has Shino ineptly trying to seduce her, and failing in hilarious ways.
* Naruto & Total Recall- How the hell do I have three separate ideas for this?! Naruto and/or Sasuke live in a near-future sort-of-dystopia, with a boring Job, like, I don’t know, Customer Service Rep. They see an ad for a memory implanting service called Total Recall. Go in and get a Fantasy package. This accidentally wakes up memories of being Hashirama/Madara and/or Asura/Indra, either as actual reincarnation or Brainwiped government super-soldiers. OR. Take the schwarzenegger movie, but instead tech implanting the false memories, its 1 or more of your preferred ninjas using genjutsu, dimensionally displaced by the power of backstory, and presumably also moonlighting as mob muscle. When Arnie freaks about the mind wiping, said ninja(s) restrain and get the whole story out of him. OR. Danzo gets in charge. He decides that the Uchiha and Uzumaki are too difficult to command. So, by the power of Sharigarm, he Wipes their memories and makes them think they were civilian Uchiha/Uzumaki bastards/kids of bastards who were taken to Konoha. He also get ROOT to “acquire” some actual ones from anywhere and messes with their heads too. He then proclaims that it is sad that that loyal shinobi and the traitor died fighting each other, and, Danzo then proclaims that to restore 2 of Konohas Greatest Clans, he has found as many descendants of them, and has instituted a plan to create a new generation of them(loyal to him of course). However many years later, a retired shinobi decides to teach the married couple of a Uchiha and an Uzumaki basic ninja skills till they can use that jutsu that temporarily sex-changes you so gay couples can have kids (because of course this blood obsessed culture will have that) So old shinobi is teaching married civilian Naruto and Sasuke. They accidentally break the mind wipe during “kai” training and get really, really pissed.

so now for a different Voltron AU.
so like. In pre-Battleworld/Secret wars Marvel there was that thing where universes were collapsing like dominoes and I have...far too many potential AUs that take advantage of this. Granted, it’s been a while since I read it, but the premise is “what if 616 decided that, in order to stop the incursions and eventual disintegration of the fabric of reality, the best option was blowing 616 to bits”. What would happen? Where would 616-ers go? What would they do? How would they do it? And, more importantly, where would they end up?
Thus:
They have--had? had--a bunch of Sorcerer Supremes on their team so hopefully some people from Earth-Earth survived. They’ve been scattered across the galaxy--hopefully just the one--a handful of Avengers assigned to groups of civilians.
And it.
SUCKS.
Kate is, like, not even old enough to be a senator which is no longer an adequate measure of anything since there’s no senate anymore!
And now she’s the mayor of a goddamn town on some random planet in who knows where, Jessica Drew is hugely pregnant, Laura Kinney is a rage machine because nobody can find Gabby--
Claire Temple is the only person Kate cares for at the moment, thanks ever so much, but mostly because her way of coping is to say “Dammit, Jim, I’m a doctor, not a physicist! Actually I’m a nurse. Stop telling people I’m the town doctor.”
Kate has the vain hope that there are more...inter-dimensional refugees somewhere else on this planet but it’s a planet and immediate survival is more important than finding others right now.
Thank god (or like. Billy) for Betty Ross, who is making sure that the things they’re eating aren’t going to kill them.
They’ve got a few shelters built already and a half dozen more and Kate is making it through every day by spite and faking it and Laura glowering over Kate’s shoulder when the ship lands.
It’s an alien ship, which doesn’t actually mean a lot given that they are in a completely different universe so perhaps more accurately it is an unknown ship. Kate has this thought and immediately thinks of it as a UFO and hates herself for it. Just a little.
The point, though, is that some big purple humanoid looking aliens--not--not humans? whatever, aliens--disembark. They seem very human looking, or Kree or something, with small differences as far as details like ears and fingers go, at least that Kate can see from a distance.
Not for the first time, Kate wonders if this planet belongs to someone. Not like she’s got time for that worry what with everything else on their plates.
The aliens approach the settlement and they’re tall.
Kate heads them off with a contingent of her own and finds it a little bit funny that both groups are being led by the shortest person in them. Sure the height difference between her and Betty and Laura isn’t the foot or so between the guy with long white hair and the people flanking him, but still.
Who are they--generals, lieutenants? Maybe--
“I present Emperor Lotor of the Galra Empire. Kneel.”
Kate eyes the general that speaks. Then shares a look with Betty, then Laura, who already has her claws out.
Emperor Lotor of the Galra Empire opens his mouth. “Ezor--”
“Look, I don’t give a fuck,” Kate interrupts him. “We don’t, collectively, give a fuck. If you’re here to kill us or conquer us, that’s not going to work out well. And if you’re here to help, we’re super tired we, have traveled a very long way, like. Literally. Across the universe--”
Betty snorts, fails at swallowing her giggle.
“Don’t start singing,” Laura growls.
To her credit, Betty does not.
“Across the universe, you say?” Emperor Lotor asks.
“Beyond it, technically,” Betty says, earning a few glares. “What? It’s true, if we’re sharing we may as well share.”
Lotor eyes the three of them. “Through the quintessence rift?”
“What’s a quintessence rift?” Betty asks.
“Let’s go with a tentative maybe on that one,” Kate decides. Another wordless conversation with Laura and Betty occurs before Kate continues. “Our universe was destroyed. I’m not talking our galaxy, I’m talking our plane of existence.”
“Interesting,” Lotor says when it’s clear Kate isn’t going to say more. “I happen to know some people who have traveled to alternate realities. Perhaps you’ve heard of the Paladins of Voltron?”
Kate stares at him. “Dude, no. Of course we haven’t! Have you heard of the Avengers?” He shakes his head. “Didn’t think so.”
“Well, regardless, perhaps Voltron will be able to help,” Lotor nods to himself, then one of his guards. “Acxa, send word to the Castle of Lions and give them our coordinates.” He turns back to Kate, to Betty and Laura, before placing his fist over his heart and sketching a half-bow to them. “I will do everything in my power to help you.”
“Ooohmygodd,” Betty breathes as Emperor Lotor’s hair spills over his shoulder.
“Please keep it together, Ross,” Kate hisses. Yes, tall dudes bowing is a good thing, everyone knows that. “So, uh. That’s Betty, Laura, and I’m Kate. Of Ea--well. Formerly of Earth.”
Lotor straightens and seems to be fighting back a smile. “Ah. Earth. Yes, I’ve heard of Earth.”
“Cool. Cool.” And, unable to fight through five years of charm school, Kate can’t help but say, “it’s nice to meet you.”

The Draco (Demon General AU)
“Now is the perfect time to attack.” declared Azazel.  “The dimensional walls are weak.  Your half-brothers and nephews have grown into their powers.  Genosha has been attacked and its defenses are down.  We will tear apart this prison by invading the material plane and claim our rightful ownership of the world!”  With that, the red demon hoisted a glass in celebration.  His generals, from blind Ginniyeh to unusually quiet Seir followed suit.
They spent their last night in either preparation (Yidrazel checked over the troops and weaponry one last time) or revelry (Jillian and Seir had one last tryst and she tried to draw him into an orgy but he declined).  As the evening wore on and things quieted down, Ginniyeh drew Seir aside.  “Tomorrow, we will try and make the invasion as quick and bloodless as possible.  But it has been thousands of years since the troops have had a chance to indulge their bloodlust, and there will be casualties.
I know you have grown fond of some of the leaders on that island.  So I’m giving you tonight to go ahead and claim whoever you want and spirit them away.  Bring them back here, drop them off into the cells below and I swear that I will allow none to harm them.”  He hesitated, but she continued talking.  “You’ll never get a better chance to save them.”
Seir bowed his head to his older sister.  “Thank you, Ginniyeh.  I won’t forget this.”
She smiled.  “Just remember that you owe me a favor later.”
“I will.”
“Kitty!  Katzchen!”
Shadowcat whirled around.  “Seir?” she hissed.  “What are you doing here?”
“Looking for you.  What are you doing out in the foothills around Hammer Bay and not asleep in the city?”
“Following Nils.”  She pointed over, where he could see a large number of mutants dancing around a bonfire.  (Not a bonfire, he knew better.  The incipient portal shone and capered like a fire but was much more dangerous.)  “He’s been having episodes of sleepwalking that we’ve been trying to control.  He asked that I follow him tonight to see where he’s been going.”
Seir cursed to himself in ancient Sumerian.  He knew that Azazel had already called his progeny to open up the portal, but he hadn’t realized they were already that close.
“I think I recognize some of those people,” Kitty continued talking.  “They’ve been part of the recent refugee influx, now that Wanda’s reopened the borders.”
“You’re right.”  Kitty jumped, startled, but Seir had heard the other man sneaking up on them.  “For some reason, Genosha’s been infiltrated by a group of mutants.  Ones who look very similar to your friend Seir here.”
The man was taller than either of them and very muscular.  Not to mention covered in more tattoos than even the Demon General.  He shifted around and held out a card to Kitty while giving Seir a suspicious look from yellow and black eyes.  “Marcus Skarr, aka Kiwi Black.  A private investigator from New Zealand.  A couple asked me to find their runaway son.  I traced him to Genosha and was about to call them when I found him doing this.”  A quick jerk of his chin towards the gathering.  “What is this, some sort of cult?”
“No,” said Seir grimly.  “It’s an invasion.”
The other two turned to look at him.
“Katzchen, you remember how we first met?  With the Dire Wraiths and Belasco?”  One slow nod.  “The same situation all over again.”
“Is this your fault?” accused Kiwi, getting straight to the heart of the problem.
“No this plan was in the works before I was even born.”  Before Seir could explain, there was another interruption.  A reporter and her crew had just shown up and was filming the ceremony.  The reporter closed in on the apparent leader, a dark-skinned man with a red bandana and a black beard, and began questioning him on the ritual being conducted.  “And for what purpose are you conducting this ceremony?  All across the island people are watching right now, wondering the same question.”
“This rite will draw the true rulers of this world back from the Hell the Cheyarafim banished them too.  Be prepared to bow before your proper masters, peons!”
“She’s doing this live?” Kitty was aghast.  “Seriously, does no one sleep on this island?”
“That fire’s getting bigger.” muttered the Maori.  “How?  I don’t see them adding any fuel.”
Seir gave up on being discreet.  Forget alerting everyone and getting the troops in position, he’d just have to hope everyone was still on guard and would act accordingly.  Teleporting in, he shoved his sword through the herald’s back, straight through his heart.  The man turned and saw who had stabbed him.  He had just enough time to gasp, “Traitor!”, then Seir beheaded him with another sword.
“Citizens of Genosha,” he addressed the frozen camera crew.  “This ritual is just the beginning of an interdimensional invasion.  All around Hammer Bay there should be many other gatherings like this.  Attack the participants!  Break up the circles!  Otherwise monstrous troops will come pouring in to destroy your city!”  He followed his words by turning and hacking at the mutants who made up the circle.  Most died silently or had already been drained of their life force, but the last one looked up with confused eyes.  “Ssseir?” slurred Nils Styger.
The Demon General froze for a moment.  Still, the shimmer in the air had died and all the other members of this gathering were deceased as well.  He could probably spare this half-brother.  “Nils, hold very still.  I need to cut you free from the others.”  Seir slashed downwards, freeing Abyss’s hands from the dead bodies that had melted together.  Not giving the younger man a chance to recover, he teleported them both back to Kitty.
Kitty’s watch was flashing and she was speaking into it.  Giving directions to someone on the other end of the communicator, he realized.  Pushing Nils towards her, he turned away.  “There must be several dozen of these gatherings on the island.  We’ll have to go to destroy each one.”
“And who the hell are you to be giving orders?” challenged Kiwi Black.  Kitty was too busy helping Nils to take charge.
“The one who planned out this invasion,” said Seir and teleported away.
Wolverine stabbed the lion-faced hulk in the back of the head, taking care to twist the claws in so that whatever brains this thing had were scrambled.  Kitty’s message had been short but combined with that cosplayer’s live transmission, it had given the X-Men the gist of what they needed to know.
As the brute came down, Wolverine jumped away.  He didn’t relax his guard until a hex bolt shot down from the air and incinerated the body.  Twisting his head up, he called up to Princess (Queen?) Wanda, “You’re lucky the X-Men were here to help with the rebuilding.”
“I’ll thank you later,” said Wanda absently, more focussed on trying to knock out enough of the cultists to close the portal. “But right now we’ve got an invasion to get through!”
“I haven’t had the chance to torture any of you Cheyarafim in thousands of years,” the black-winged demon held Angel down and tore out another handful of feathers.  “I suppose I should make this last, but why bother?  I can spend the next hundred years hunting down every last one of your kind.”  A sharp punch broke more bones and the blonde mutant screamed.
Before Yidrazil could enact more punishment, a glowing blue tomahawk came down and decapitated him.  The body was shoved off of him, and Angel found a broad hand held out.  He gladly grasped the hand and allowed the other, more muscular man to help him up.  “Kiwi Black,” the man introduced himself.  “I was with Shadowcat when she first got wind of the invasion.”
“Angel of the X-Men.  And very grateful for the rescue.”  He looked around.  All the cultists were either dead or knocked out, difficult to tell in the dark.  This Kiwi must have used the leader’s distraction to close the portal.  it might have led to a few minutes more of torture, but Angel couldn’t fault his reasoning.  “Will you be able to fight?” asked the broader man, bringing his thoughts to the present.
Angel tried to move a wing and cringed.  The pain was unbelievable.  “Not a chance.  I can’t fly either, but I can walk.”  The older man nodded.  He got an arm around the X-Men’s waist and let the other lean on him as they made their way back to the city.  “I think that was the last gathering outside the city.  And I know Kitty ordered that med tents be set up all around.  I’ll get you to one of those tents before I go searching again.”
Angel would have sagged in relief if he hadn’t already been sagging in pain.  “Thank you.”
Ginniyeh tried to scream, but she didn’t have enough moisture in her body left even for that.  As the world faded away, all she could think was “That damned traitor!”
After all the portals had been closed, Seir found Jillian on the shore at the edge of the city.  Her wings were shredded and all her limbs broken.  It looked that she had fallen from the air.  Without immediate attention, she wasn’t going to make it.
“Seir?” she asked as he pulled her into his lap.
“Yes, Jillian?”
“We failed, didn’t we?”
“Yes, we did.”
“Did anyone else escape?”  She coughed, blood spilling from her mouth.
“I saw Father get pulled back into the Brimstone Dimension.  Not sure about anyone else.”
“That’s okay.  Father can try again in twenty to thirty years.  He’ll just have to choose a different weak point in the barrier.  Genosha was-”  A hacking bark that did nothing to clear her lungs of blood.  “Genosha was much better defended than you told us.”
He stayed silent.  No reason to hurt her when she’d be gone in a few minutes.
“You’ll do a better job next time, right?”
“I will.”  There wouldn’t be a next time.
“Seir?  Please kiss me one last time.”
He leaned down and pressed his lips to hers, kissing her deeply.  He wasn’t bothered by the taste of blood.  When he pulled back her eyes were already glazing over and she had ceased to breathe.  He held her for a little longer to be certain that her heart had stopped too.
When he looked up, Senyaka and Melloncamp were both there.  Letting his sister slip from his arms, he discarded his weapons and put his hands on his head.
“They’re not waking up,” whispered Nils.
“No, they’re not.  Aside from you, none of them are recovering.”  Kitty was equally quiet.  “The doctors don’t know what to do.  We’ve got them on IVs and tried everything from electroshock to psychic screaming.  But Jean says that when she scans them, it’s like there’s nothing there.”
“Is there no hope then?”
“I don’t know.”  The silence was broken by another bed flatlining.
“I hope you understand why I’m doing this.”
“Ja, ja.  Despite going out of my way to save your city, you still can’t trust me.”
“You passed on critical information about our infrastructure and defenses to a hostile party.  You changed your mind at the last minute to help us, but that doesn’t wash out your actions from before.”  Wanda stepped up and clasped the inhibitor collar around Seir’s throat.  “Hopefully you won’t have to stay here too long.  Just a few weeks, no more than a month.  Long enough for Genosha to recover a bit.  Then I’ll call the full council together to make a decision on your fate.  We’ll take into account everything you’ve done for and to us.  With a bit of luck, the council will issue you a full pardon.”
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep.”
Wanda activated the collar then stepped outside the cell.  Senyaka locked the door and activated the barrier, before standing guard with Mercury.  They were taking no chances with this prisoner.
Far away a woman watched a replay of the recent events on Genosha.  Every time she reached the end of the transmission she started it over again.
“He’ll pay for this with his life,” she promised herself.

The project, entitled Coral Reef, would be made of modular units stacked on top of each other to be inhabited slowly over time. ▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎ ➡️ Follow @archimillions for more ⬅️ ➡️ Follow @archimillions for more ⬅️ ➡️ Follow @archimillions for more ⬅️ ▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎ 🏩 Coral Reef 🇭🇹 Port-au-Prince, Haiti 👷‍♂️ @vincentcallebautarchitectures 📸 @vincentcallebautarchitectures ● ● ● ● #archimillions #greencity #architectura #archilovers #postoftheday #singaporebuildings #architecturestudent #architecturephotography #architecturedose #architecturedetail #architecturehunter #architecturedaily #architecturelove #architectureandpeople #architecturemodel #architectureschool #igarchitecture #buildingstyles #buildingswow #bestdesign #parametric #architectureart #bestarchitecture #architecturemasters #architecturepage #greenarchitecture #greenary #cityjungle #ecofriendlyliving https://www.instagram.com/p/CUFH_gElkf7/?utm_medium=tumblr

CORAL REEF - work by @vincentcallebautarchitectures . Matrix and plug-in for the construction of 1000 passive houses, . Called «The Pearl of West Indies», Haiti was during a long time the most visited country of the Greater Antilles representing the occidental third of Hispaniola Island. Devastated in 2010 by an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, the country has now to be rebuilt from new innovative architectural and town-planning concepts. .
