新年快乐,万事如意
ALSO A QUESTION
does FFM and the Land of Eternal Snow celebrate the spring festival? And if so, how would they celebrate it? Is there any cultural differences in how they celebrate? And any other details you’d be willing to share?
Tumblr media
FFM and the Land of Eternal Snow indeed do celebrate the Spring Festival/Lunar New Year.
FFM all gather to watch the fireworks sent up to the sky from the mainland. They call it the Firework Festival. When the kingdom started to trade with other demons and the humans, the monkeys would all share sweet cakes and treats as they watch the fireworks being sent up to the sky. And as a build up to the fireworks, the monkeys of FFM would play music and dance and party for the entire day.
The Land of Eternal Snow celebrates this day very differently. Instead of a loud celebration shared by a community, it’s more of a day to memorialize and remember ancestors. Yue’s clan use this day to honor their founder, the Zodiac Monkey by sending up lanterns filled with wishes and gratitude. The children are also given star-shaped sweets by the adults in the family as a special treat. Since it’s such a sacred day, any murder attempts are forbidden so it’s a rare time where everyone can relax around each other.

I heard this music on Tik Tok with a photo of an actor called Cole brings plenty. Now, I'm obsessed. I didn't listen to the full song, but I liked the rhythm. Rest in Peace Cole.

I think the reason I get sad the Miyamura doesn’t wear his piercings or show his tattoos after the first episode really, is that while for Miyamura they meant a actual reason to stay hidden (it’s more of a sign of his pain from middle school and elementary) while for a lot of us (especially in America) see piercings and tattoos as freedom and moving on from our childhood/parents

Wanting to make even just oneshots about a culture you have to make up that culture to then unite it with another culture, another you made up, and the work that builds up to it is so crazy.
You mean i have to do research for 3 days just to figure out the perfect way to whittle a whistle or figurine from some random branch, but not just a random branch, a branch that has gone through a tedious line of preparation and selection to be chosen, A PROCESS YOU ALSO HAVE TO MAKE UP.
You mean I’m gonna be doing hours of research on the different cultures I’m basing mine of, of their intricate dances of celebration to the way the colors of their clothes accent their people so beautifully..
Maybe that’s the fun of it..
Maybe the fun of it is the build up along the way of learning the ins and outs of other cultures and learning about diversity to just make one of your own. If imagining different myths and legends, and even just sayings told to the children to keep them from trouble.
… maybe it is worth it.

So this post was kind of inspired by this post by @thequeenofsastiel and the comment I made on it. Instead of replying with more comments I thought I'll just make a post about it. So whoever is interested in knowing why there is significant lack of kissing for official couples in the BLs or Asian dramas, keep reading.
Kissing is mostly associated with sexual acts in most of the Asian countries. Couples (het or gay) who are officially dating or are married, rarely show regular affection by kissing. (Not on lips or even cheeks) . And this is not just in public it's scarce in private too unless it's part of sex.
It was super rare till recent years, things are definitely changing due to globalisation and social media reach.
This is partly the reason why the first kiss is given so much importance in Asian dramas.
The other aspect of this is, most western couples greet each other with hugs or kisses. It's quite common for you to see your parents or other couples, kissing each other while saying good bye or after coming back home. You would never see that type of greetings in Asian couples. Most if not all Asian countries use the hand folding 🙏 gesture to greet each other. Other than work places even hand shakes are very rare and even termed rude sometimes if you try to do it in familial spaces.
So then, how do you differentiate between couples and just friends. So most couples show affection in different ways Iike taking care of each other, doing things for your partner which they are perfectly capable of doing themselves but you still do it for them. Feeding your loved one is also a big thing. In general spending time together, sharing meals, dropping them off home, waiting for them to finish classes/work are big indicators that a couple might be official. (And you see plenty of all this in BLs or k-dramas).
Hand holding is also quite common, but that's not limited to couples. If you visit any Asian countries you would frequently see friends holding hands or just sitting super close in each other spaces. Casual touches in between friends are quite common. Hence most of the west world is baffled at the casual intimacy these actors show on sets, behind the scenes or on stage performances. There is most of the time nothing gay going on there, it's just how the Asian youth roll.
But there are always exceptions, and I think Sam & Mon are more of an exception than a norm.

In ancient Egypt, there lived a scribe named Amunet. Her ink-stained fingers whispered secrets of the pharaohs. Unbeknownst to her, she held a hidden talent - the gift of prophecy. As time unfolded, her words transcended eras and cultures. A Viking warrior found solace in her verses during the clash of swords. In feudal Japan, a samurai's heart ached for home, guided by Amunet's voice through the ages. This gift bridged the divide between past and present, tying hearts across time with a thread of destiny.

My husband and I come from slightly different cultures, so sometimes we participate, and sometimes we only learn/educate, and that's okay!
