destin karn is my personal number one patricide guy. i’m gonna talk about it
1) his dad, marin karn, is probably like the worst guy in the shattered realms just as a person, not even touching on how he is as a father. he’s the general of a country that’s basically like Misogyny Land. he’s a mage who came up with the idea of enslaving other mages (except himself) for military purposes. he forcibly married destin’s mother, frances, because her noble birth would elevate him in the court. he’s the main strategist in a war that was started because the queen of another country rejected his king’s proposal for marriage. he tries to sabotage the military careers of anyone competent because he’s afraid of losing his power. he does not care if he causes hundreds of conscripted soldiers to die. he’s the right hand man of king gerard, a man who killed his six brothers in order to take the throne and consistently kills children as his way of quashing rebellions.
2) his dad is also a very very shitty father. marin karn wanted to have many sons, so that he could select the most talented one to inherit his legacy and kill the others. however, his wife only ever had one child. destin is born a mage, and doesn’t have the military prowess of his father. destin describes himself as a songbird in the eagles nest. he’s not the son his father wanted, though he acknowledges that probably no one would satisfy his father. his father beats his mother, and when destin gets older, starts to beat him. he forces destin into military service as a child. this leads to destin stabbing his father when he’s 13 years old.
he and his mother run away, but his father keeps chasing for 2 years, and then, after hurting destin, destin’s mother, and attempting to kill destin’s only friend/romantic interest, drags destin back home
3) destin vows that he’s going to kill his father for good. he feels that he’s been complicit in the general’s cruelty. his father knows that destin hates him, and threatens to kill destin’s mother if destin tries to harm him.
4) destin gets out from his fathers control and becomes spymaster to the king, an important position at court. he and his father are widely known to hate each other. the king finds this amusing because he’s evil
5) when the general found destin in hiding, he left behind destin’s mother’s dagger that he’d stolen from her. destin’s friend brings it back to him years later. destin carries it around, and eventually gives it to a young girl to defend herself against a creep. she kills the creep with the dagger. destin takes this as an opportunity to frame his father for murder.
7) destin brings this “murder” before the new king (the old one got pushed off a burning tower by his wife dw about it). he creates false documents that would make his father a traitor to the crown and blames the stalemate of the war on his father being a traitor. this is all fabricated by destin, but the court believes it. the king orders destin’s father to be arrested
8) destin’s father is enraged by the false accusations of treason. he attempts to kill destin in the council room, surrounded by guards and witnesses, his anger getting the best of him. this of course does not make him look less guilty, and no one raises a finger when destin stabs his father in the heart with his mothers dagger (that always feels very symbolic to me, reclaiming the stolen weapon to finally kill the man who took it from her).
9) so not only did he kill his father, he implicated his father as a traitor and the king puts his fathers head on a spike. his father cared so much about his own legacy and his years of loyal service were destroyed by destin’s plotting.
10) after killing his father, destin helps an usurper take the throne. he kills the young king with his own hands. he supports the northern queendom and helps root out traitors in their midst. then he gets on a dragon to go save his boyfriend from death by lava pit
11) in the epilogue it’s said that he settles his mothers estates, essentially removing any ties he has to nobility in his home country, and moves across the ocean to go be the arm candy for his very powerful pirate boyfriend. effectively destroying any semblance of his father’s legacy.
12) he has no remorse about it. just nightmares of his father coming back to life, but he doesn’t regret it for one second
so yeah 10/10 patricide character i love him killing an abusive parent in fiction is always very cathartic and i approve of it

I'm starting to see some very funny (and by funny I mean infuriating) takes on what Andor was actually ABOUT and the way it utilized its more adult narrative within the context of Star Wars. Andor as a show followed Lucas's themes BRILLIANTLY even while choosing to look at them a little differently.
One of the primary themes in Star Wars is that there really isn't much of a "middle ground" in life. You are either choosing to be selfless and compassionate, or you aren't. Trying to stay in the middle or run from making this choice inevitably ends up badly for the people who try. And one of the other primary themes of Star Wars is that being selfless and compassionate often requires LETTING GO, most often letting go of the people you love and accepting that change happens in life.
I've seen people argue that Andor is able to be a morally grey story because its characters aren't Jedi or Sith who tend to be more bound by these cosmic themes or good vs evil, but I'd argue that Andor actually represents that theme JUST FINE.
Despite many of its characters living in a "morally ambiguous" area, we still have to see them make the choice to be selfless and compassionate or selfish and greedy. One of the primary themes for the characters is how well they can LET GO or not. Cassian is constantly having to figure out how to let go of his plans for his future, let go of his mother, let go of his dreams of a normal life. Cassian is ruled by fear for much of the first season and it's only once he is pushed into a situation where there's no longer any way to run, he starts finally fighting back and refusing to bow to the oppressive force that wants nothing more than to see him discarded like so much refuse. The people of Ferrix have to let go of their desire to stick their heads in the sand and simply hope the Empire won't notice them.
And on the other end of the spectrum you have Syril Karn and Dedra Meero absolutely fixated on their respective goals to the point that they're willing to kill and betray innocent people to reach them. They've convinced themselves their goals are selfless, but their motivations are in fact actually SELFISH, they serve nobody but their own ambitions. And both of them end up paying for it.
So Andor ABSOLUTELY gets the central theme of Star Wars, it isn't actually trying to change that. What it DOES do is take that theme and just digs slightly deeper, looking at this theme from a slightly different angel even when it ultimately comes to the same conclusion. Andor asks if selflessness and compassion always looks like "I'm Luke Skywalker, I'm here to rescue you!" Or if maybe sometimes making the selfless choice means burning yourself to light a fire to lead someone else to safety. Are all people who make the selfless and compassionate choice considered heroes, or are some of them having to make those choices down in the dirt and destined to be forgotten by history? Andor asks how many variations of selflessness might exist and then explores them in its wide, colorful ensemble.
Andor also is looking at what selflessness might look like in characters who are forced into making a choice between standing back when they see evil happening and dirtying their hands just to make the smallest difference because forces of evil outside of their control are making the purer options impossible.
And that is the EXACT SAME THEME explored with the Prequels Jedi. The Jedi who want so badly to be selfless and compassionate, whose philosophies and ideologies lead them to use violence only as a last resort and love everyone and everything in the galaxy equally. The Jedi who are thrust into a war where there's no way to win because the Sith are running both sides of it and the Jedi can't just NOT FIGHT because that will get innocent people killed and will help no one but themselves, but they have to compromise their morals as a result. The Jedi who see a politician slowly amassing unreasonable amounts of power he's unwilling to let go of and a Senate too controlled by fear and greed to see the danger, so their only option is to commit treason to try to remove the corruption personally.
The Jedi LOOK the hero part a lot more than the characters in Andor do. They're strong, confident, powerful, and wield swords of light. They fight out in the open rather than from the shadows. Cassian, Luthen, Saw, Mon Mothma, Vel, and Cinta all manipulate things and threaten people and lie and cheat their way towards victory. Both Mon Mothma and Luthen fully admit to choosing to act like their enemy in order to defeat them. And it's not that the Jedi's way of fighting is any worse than the way the people of Andor have learned to fight. The people of Andor would LOVE to be able to fight like the Jedi used to do. But they can't. Palpatine has created a world in which being heroes that way is NO LONGER POSSIBLE. He started with the Jedi, by forcing the Jedi into a situation where fighting the way they once did was the wrong choice to make. There were no longer any right choices, just better choices. The only choice.
The Jedi stood as a bulwark between the darkness and the people of the galaxy. For years they chose to dirty their hands in order to fight the battles no one else WANTED to fight because it was the ONLY CHOICE TO MAKE. So what happens when the Jedi are gone?
The rest of the galaxy is now faced with the same choice. Do you stand by and let darkness grow? Or do you dirty your hands a little because it's the only choice you CAN make?
The people in Andor are picking up the torch that fell out of the Jedi's hands when they were murdered and persecuted by the Sith. Only the people who are left don't have magic powers or swords of light, so they use the resources they have at their disposal, which mostly amounts to manipulation and trickery and striking from shadows. The fight looks a little different now, but it's still the same fight the Jedi were fighting for years.
So Andor is taking those bigger cosmic themes from the Jedi/Sith conflicts that permeate the rest of the Skywalker saga and asks what those themes might look like when applied to the little people. What kind of choices might THEY make, what kind of things might they have to let go of in order to make those selfless choices? What kind of consequences might happen when they DON'T make the selfless choice? It's the exact same theme Lucas has ALWAYS had in his stories, just viewed from a different angle or through a different lens.
But the stories we've been getting recently that are trying to argue that being selfish is actually totally fine so long as you're doing it For Love, that the Jedi were in fact the source of everything that went wrong in the galaxy, that the Jedi were DESTINED to be destroyed, those all go completely against Lucas's themes. They're the direct OPPOSITE of his intended message. It is in fact entirely possible to write a more adult story with grittier content that STILL SENDS THE SAME FUCKING MESSAGE AND FOLLOWS THE SAME THEMES and doesn't try to get edgy in its interpretation of the source material.

Chapter 8
The petals gently flew around as she placed it on the thaali and folded her hands, bowing in the temple in front of her God's idol. And then she sighed, looking up.
Shlokaa met Ram ji's eyes. He was looking as serene and beautiful as ever, one hand outstretched for giving blessings and the other clutching his bow. His strong wife, Sita right next to him adorned in a bright fire and white coloured sari, and his beloved brother Lakshman on the other side, all three in similar poses - as if they were carved out of the same heavenly element. And their dearest devotee Hanuman at their feet in reverence.
Shlokaa's vision suddenly followed another line and she met Krishna's eyes, whose idol was just in the next mandap. He was smiling enchantingly as he held onto his murli in a breathtaking mudra and by his side, his eternal lover Radha's hand was outstretched to give ashish (somebody had placed a mogra between her fingers so it appeared as though she was offering it as a blessing to her devotees), whose other hand was lovingly holding onto Krishna's shoulder. A spark danced between both their eyes as if they knew something that Shlokaa didn't and were giggling about it with each other. Shlokaa shook her head, finally giving in, and smiled too.
Suddenly somebody put their hand warmly on Shlokaa's shoulder. She immediately turned around to see who it was.
"Hello, Shlokaa beta. Main madad karu?"
The woman gently took the thaali from her hands and helped her place the bhog and flowers to the Gods. Shlokaa looked on, relieved and feeling overwhelmed by this woman's warmth but froze as soon as the woman smiled. That was exactly Vilasini's smile and expression. She could never mistake that face for anybody else, even in a crowd. Never.
Oh God, it was Vilasini's mother.
Before she could run away, Vilasini's mother looked at her with such intent that Shlokaa warmed up again on spot, by that motherly tenderness.
She almost wondered to recollect the last time her own mother had shown such a closeness towards her.
"Darro matt, beta. Main madad hi karna chahti hu tumhari. Bahot pyaari ladki ho." She softly patted Shlokaa's face and whisperer "I know what dilemma Vilasini must've put you in. I know my daughter. I'll help you. Now listen carefully."
"Where are we going?" Vilasini demanded to know but no use. She had asked the same question at least a million times in the past hour but Shlokaa had been silent as a statue. Vilasini had seethed initially but sighed now. Shlokaa on the other hand couldn't even meet Vilasini's eyes.
"Koi crime vrime karne toh nahi jaa rahe na?" Vilasini asked, desperate to get anything out of Shlokaa's mouth now but she just stared back at her. Vilasini groaned.
In reality, Shlokaa hadn't even understood anything Vilasini had asked in hindi except the word "crime". Crime? Really?? What crime?! Vilasini can puppet Shlokaa however she likes, this plan of 'one hour' Vilasini decides upon, everything she does but when it comes to Shlokaa it's a crime??? Does this girl even have ANY IDEA that everything she's doing, everything she has been making Shlokaa feel since day one should be classified as nothing less than a CRIME?
She almost threatened to snap because of such trains of thought when she suddenly heard Vilasini stop in her tracks, take in a sharp breath and breath out slowly. And then Vilasini laughed - making Shlokaa forget everything else in that sound. Finally. Vilasini laughing genuinely after what seemed like centuries to Shlokaa. Shlokaa couldn't help but smile secretly.
They had reached their destination.
It was a big carnival amusement park place. Vilasini took off like a missile to the rollercoaster as Shlokaa momentarily froze upon seeing it but clenched her fists and strode on.
"Everybody please tighten your seatbelts!"
*clink* *clink* They all quickly followed the instructions. Vilasini was still not over the high of finally being on a rollercoaster after so long! How did Shlokaa know she loved this?! She grinned giddily and did the same as others, clasping her belt over herself. She turned over to look at Shlokaa who was sitting beside her. Shlokaa appeared to be numb and white, looking straight ahead as if she had seen a ghost. She was even shivering a bit. Vilasini immediately grew concerned and that's when she realized it. She gritted her teeth and closed her eyes, whispering "oh mummy you.."
Shlokaa suddenly zoned back in and looked at Vilasini who had moved her hand to she keep it over Shlokaa's to steady her. They looked at each other as..
"3,2,1 AND GO!"
Vilasini threw her head back in bliss as her hair flew and eyes closed. And Shlokaa looked at her.
Walking back, Shlokaa's legs felt so wobbly. She also felt pukish and dizzy. Vilasini sighed and feared the worst - that Shlokaa would be throwing up all over soon so she took her over outside the carnival, near an isolated, dark area where a kothi was in ruins.
"Why did you have to do this?"
"Do wh-" Shlokaa buckled over and fell on her knees, hands instantly shooting off to clutch on her stomach.
"THIS" Vilasini gestured wildly at Shlokaa "Why did you listen to my mother? KYA ZAROORAT THHI? Zyaada bhoot tujh jaisi ladki ko chaddha thha mujhe impress KARNE KA?"
Shlokaa felt like crying. She had no idea what Vilasini was shouting. It was all hindi and a headache to deal with right now which was attacking and increasing her already existing, stabbing headache.
"Arey toh mujhe PEHLE THAPPAD KYU MAARA? KABHI BOLTI HAIN MERE LIYE RUK JAAO, KABHI MAARTI HAIN, PHIR WAAPIS PEECHHE PADHKE MUJHE HI GUILTY FEEL KARAATI HAIN. KYU??? KYU?? Kya hain yeh SAB?"
Ahh, guilty. That was the only word Shlokaa caught onto, which was now burying itself mercilessly in her chest like a knife. And Oh God, this headache.. everything was a blur.
"You know what? I know exactly how girls like you are. First you put up this act of 'righteous' homophobia. Then you feel bad but it was all a play pretend anyway coz you wanted to experiment with the other girl all along. But I won't let you use me and then throw away. And before you try anything.." Vilasini halted. Hoping that she'd receive retaliation from Shlokaa who'd shout back just as furiously that she was nothing like that. But she didn't. Not even once.
And what more? The blank expression on Shlokaa's face probably even confirmed the words she was hurling at her, if nothing more.
Something changed inside Vilasini, something happened. And that's when it happened too.
Before Shlokaa could react, Vilasini's lips pressed themselves firmly on hers. They didn't move though. It was a fierce liplock. A revolt. And fireworks. Real fireworks. They actually bursted above them afar in the sky, going off from the carnival.
Vilasini tasted like honeyed snow. And Shlokaa's lips were softer, warmer and more desperate.
If Shlokaa could fall further by the impact, she would have. But she was already on her knees. A small sound escaped her own lips when they parted from Vilasini's, almost like a retaliation. Now.
"And before you try anything..." Vilasini whispered "let me use and throw you away instead." She breathed deep again "This is what you wanted, didn't you? All this tamasha to experiment with me? Well, you've got it now. Goodbye."
And just like that, Vilasini vanished in the shadows, leaving Shlokaa alone in the ruins.

Erik Amaya for Rotten Tomatoes: Is Syril Karn a corporate fascist or just self-righteous to a fault?
Soller: Can I have a little of column A and a little from column B? His self-righteous belief [is formed] within his limited worldview and the constrictions he’s placed upon his own life and then the constrictions that actually growing up in a place like Coruscant, and in the toxic family environment that he grew up in, placed on him. He also believes he is destined to be a part of something “great” like the Empire, and it actually supersedes those little dolls he has on his bedside table that he’s dreamed about ordering around since he was a child. [It] definitely falls in line with this intellectual belief that the corporate fascist environment and system is something that is the answer to control and regulate society. And Syril’s core values — beliefs of rule and order and law, and really good tailoring – the circumstances of his life and his dampening of his own emotional antenna and social antenna absolutely primes him to exist within that structure.
Does that mixture make him the most dangerous person we’ve met so far?
Soller: I think it definitely makes for someone who’s not necessarily in control, and that is something that we’re exploring with Syril. He has this deep emotional life that he keeps bitten down beneath his surface. Everything is zipped up into this perfect hairstyle, perfect clothing, and yet there is this massive, frustrated turmoil underneath. And that means he’s constantly at battle within himself, and he can’t really see five feet beyond him about how his actions are influencing those around him.
You only get a glimpse of that a couple times within the series, like in episode 3 when he has to speak to the troops on board the craft before they land at Ferrix, and the penny drops for him. And he is like, “Oh s—. Have I gone too far? This could really mess up.” And then it does go wrong, and then the veil lifts, and he sees what he has facilitated. I think that struggle, that war within himself, leaning towards that kind of unhinged possibility of seeing an opening and taking it [is] because he doesn’t think before he acts. Also, if the Empire tells him to do something, he will literally do anything, and that makes him the most terrifying. Not that he is, but in a way, [he’s a] suicide bomber.
It feels like he’s the deepest exploration of that mindset in any Star Wars story so far. Did it read that way to you in the scripts that this is an examination of someone who falls for that sort of ideology?
Soller: Yeah, that’s something that I was talking to [executive producer Tony Gilroy] about very early on: that the normalcy of Syril is actually what’s kind of scary about him. He’s just so primed to be taken over by a fascist organization and that quality of recognizability in this not-fully-developed man who is still struggling with all of these unmet desires and toxic upbringing and constricted societal experiences within Coruscant and no father. He’s got these holes that I’ve just been exploring in my own way that he’s trying to fill. And it was evident from the first chats with Tony and from all the early episodes I read, it was just right there on the page and [in] his words, which are so psychologically and emotionally accurate and kind of told me everything I needed to know.

hi!! i'm new to the soulsilk fandom. could you explain the ship name to me? thank you so much!
Just to preface, this is only my name for them that I came up with 😅 nobody else calls them this and their name pretty much changes everywhere depending on who's talking about them: the most common is just petermiles— petermiles/petemai is most common on twitter and in most other places too, Marin27 and Angelette on AO3 call it Spidey Squared, and this is what I came up with on my own before (to my knowledge) anyone one else who wrote for them did, at least publicly I guess???
Or at least, before I was aware that other people had come up with a name for them too!!!
All of my friends call them this, though that doesn't really mean anything in the larger picture 🤧 so call them whatever you like!!!
That being said, the reason why I called them this is because they're soulmates and because "silk" to keep it spider themed, but past that it has a deeper meaning. This name has a tie to the Web of Life and how I see them as being destined to be, and then even further beyond that, it's a direct reference to "Tu Sangre..." (my main fic) and how it cements that idea into a reality.
In the third "book" Karn and the Web of Life make an appearance along with time travel: Miles in the present, Peter in the future, and (their son) Dante in the past.
To revive Miles (since he dies through torture because of Oscorp experimenting on him) Dante gets teleported mentally to Karn and the Web of Life where Karn lets him pluck Miles' soul thread off the Web of Life and it's revealed that (in my universe) Benjy Parker isn't The Scion, but instead Dante. The reasoning for this is explained as such by Karn:
{ "Little Scion, it pains me to meet you this way." ... "I wish there was a kinder force behind my greeting, but the web has many sayings. I suppose then that this must be its hello... and I imagine that you shall be its goodbye."
"The web? The web of what... exactly?"
"Of life. It connects us all. Your parents, you, and every deviation that departs from your creation. You're the life that flows through it, Scion. It made you, gave you breath, guided you to love, protected you until you were in the arms of your true guardians. Guardians who have done a most excellent job in raising you, I must say."
"You mean my parents..."
"I do. Your father, Peter, was the original. The host of The Other, and then time passed, and The Other ceased to exist. Your father didn't need it anymore. That's when his other half was made... the completion of his destiny. The fighting sun. The web's grace. The ultimate act of devotion to your father's soul. The last favor The Other ever granted: your other father. Together, their entwined souls make the strings of fate. Together, they made you. The Scion of all realities. The new god." The Master Weaver smiles warmly. "Though, I imagine this means nothing to you. Not yet." }
This is why I ended up naming my fic trilogy "The Soulsilk Trilogy."
So, yeah, that's pretty much everything to it and all the lore behind the little name I came up with for them.
It's cute, it's concise, it sounds nice with its snappy alliteration (even though I'm still lowkey a little embarrassed by it and sometimes think it's cheesy or whatever 😅), and ultimately the name holds everything I believe about Peter and Miles: that they're best friends, that they were created for one another, that they were destined, that they share the same symbols and names and souls and life with one another, that they're tied in ways that are unbreakable— and like a spider's silk, that bond has the strength of all the devotion they hold for each other, and in turn, is the metaphorical "red string of fate" between them.
I hope that answer was satisfying and that it cleared everything up for you!!!! Take care 💖☺️💗

destin’s fellsmarch arc is just So good. murders a bunch of fanatic priests. performs an exorcism. cries a little bit. offers up a vial of a guys blood and when asked for explanation says “umm yeah we met once and he gave me some of his blood it wasn’t gay it was normal”. casually strolls into a room and strangles his king to death. says some metal line like “he would commit his own sins for better or worse”

i know i’m the only person on earth submitting destin karn and he’s gonna not make it at all but i’m gonna propaganda for him anyway
(for reference the general is what destin calls his father. bc they hate each other)
destin karn not only kills his father, but he manages to first frame the general for treason, meaning that when he does kill his father in broad daylight, the king actually rewards him for it
he also attempted to kill his father when he was 13 years old by gut stabbing him bc he wanted his father to die a painful death but it didn’t work
the general basically tells destin constantly that he would’ve drowned destin at birth, except for the fact that he has no other children, so he’s forced to keep destin alive bc he needs someone to “carry his legacy”.
the general forces destin into military service at age 12, then destin attempts to kill him and runs away. while destin is on the run he has a very brief gay romance that is interrupted by his father finding him, capturing him, stabbing his mom, and attempting to kill his lover
it’s also stated that destin would’ve rather had his father kill him than be back under his fathers control but he’s out of luck there
he plots revenge on his father for years before finally stabbing him during a council meeting after accusing the general of treason
it’s pretty much an open secret at court that destin and his father hate each other. no one knows why but it’s bc the general is physically and verbally abusive, plus also homophobic
later on destin betrays the king that his father worked so hard to protect. #1 patricide guy
#1 patricide guy!!!

Celebrated for its straightforward approach yet deep-seated benefits, this technique is designed to improve blood flow, ease muscle stiffness, and facilitate the repair of cells.
At its core, Cupping Therapy is celebrated for harnessing the body's intrinsic healing processes. The suction created by the cups on the skin does more than draw the surface blood into a particular area; it initiates a therapeutic cascade that enhances circulation throughout the body. It increase in blood flow brings vital nutrients and oxygen to the tissues, encouraging the body's natural repair mechanisms to spring into action.
Why Choose Cupping Therapy?
Cupping Therapy offers a sanctuary where stress and physical discomfort have become commonalities. Its benefits are manifold:
Pain Relief: By targeting specific acupoints, cupping helps alleviate pain in the back, neck, and shoulders.
Detoxification: The suction encourages blood flow, helping flush toxins and rejuvenate the body.
Relaxation: Similar to the effects of a deep tissue massage, the Therapy eases tension and promotes relaxation.
Immunity Boost: Enhanced circulation produces a natural boost in immune system function.
