“If I had to reduce the essential meaning of the vast religious panorama of the High Holy Days to just one word, it would select the word responsibility. …The prayers, the sounding of the shofar, the fasting and the confession—all of it based on the belief that we are responsible for our actions, accountable for our deeds, and judged for the things we do or fail to do.
“This is one of the central, basic teachings of Judaism. You are a responsible human being. First and always, you are responsible for yourself… What you do with your life, with your body and soul, your mind, your intelligence, your creative talents, all these are charged to your account. It is the height of irresponsibility—a sin—to neglect one’s health and physical well-being; to disregard the nurture and cultivation of one’s mind and spirit; to be indifferent to the needs of the soul and to deprive it of the nourishment which the religious life can provide. V’al kullam—for all these things a person is judged.
“Judaism further teaches us that a person does not live alone in the world. …You are part of a group, a people; you are a part of humanity. You are therefore responsible for the welfare of your neighbor, whether the person is next door or a continent away. You are responsible for the well-being of your fellow Jews, wherever they may be… and charged to your account is your treatment of all human beings… the advantaged and the disadvantaged. V’al kullam—for all these things a person is judged.”

Shanah Tova!
Tumblr media
Shabbat Shalom!  Today is the start of a new year, the start of the High Holy Days, the Days of Awe.  The Jewish New Year is a time of introspection and solemnity, as well as a time of singing and laughter.
Jewish tradition holds that our names and actions are inscribed in books according to whether we are good or bad.  Theses books hold all of our actions: our faults and our accomplishments, the actions we are proud of and those we aren’t so proud of.  Can you imagine it?  Each and everything you do is written down and kept account of, a supernatural ledger for actions beneficial and not so beneficial.  This is the “Book of Life” and the “Book of Death”, with some traditions having a third book for deeds not necessarily good or evil.
Tumblr media
At Rosh Hashanah, and for the net ten days, these books are open.  What has been written can be changed, there is going back and there is a chance to make up for past missteps.
I love the idea that there is a time when the “Book of Life” is open, when we have space to forgive, space to be forgiven.  We don’t have to be defined by our worst mistake, and we don’t have to feel less than worthy because of an error.  There is time for redemption and space for reconciliation.  When we mess up, when we are human, the door is not closed forever.
At Rosh Hashanah we are given a time for renewal, reflection and new beginnings.  I say the time is not just at Rosh Hashanah.  Just as you don’t have to wait until January 1 to make New Year’s resolutions, you don’t have to wait until Rosh Hashanah to make changes in your life.  These dates are reminders for us, reminders that redemption is always possible.  Redemption is coming back into love when harsh words have been spoken.  Redemption is knowing in your bones that you are worthy even when you have hurt other or yourself.  Redemption is letting go of past wrongdoing and being loved again.
Tumblr media
That’s both the solemnity and the joy today.  The solemnity that we look back on our lives and decide what we want to let go of, what we might want to change in our lives.  The joy that we have a new year in front of us to live as we best we can.
May it be a year of peace and sweetness for you.  Shanah Tovah!

My apologies this day (of awe) goes out to the frogs.
It is a rainy night that you’re, no doubt, trying to enjoy. And I am unsure of how many were squashed at the coincidence of me driving down the road and you hopping across the road.
I offer you my deep sorrow and sorries.

may you be a drum
may the sound strike you and make you come alive
the same sound that has been pouring out from the source for as long as there have been sound waves
the sound too big to hold inside one human skull
the sound that needs the resonance chamber of the minyan to amplify
the same sound the same sentence all you have to do is listen
the loving follows the listening just as the exhale follows the inhale

I wish all my Jewish Followers a meaningful & peaceful Yom Kippur.
Tumblr media
🔯 The highest Jewish holiday begins tonight. It marks the end of the 10-day period of repentance that began with the Jewish New Year.
🕎 On Yom Kippur itself, there are 25 hours of fasting, and prayer from sunset to sunset. The day is all about reflection, inner peace and forgiveness. In Israel, all public life stands still on this day.
Wishing all of my Jewish followers and friends an easy fast and a meaningful Yom Kippur!

We are now in the Days of Awe, the ten days of repentance between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The prophet Isaiah implored the Jewish people to repent for their sins, saying “Seek God when He may be found; call Him when is is close.” But when exactly is God closest to us? According to our sages, it's right now, during the Days of Awe. This is an especially propitious time for prayer and introspection, when “the gates of Heaven are open, and I will listen to your prayers.”
The Maharsha (Rabbi Shmuel Eliezer Edeles, 1555-1631) explains that Rosh Hashanah is when the Book of Life is written, determining who will live and who will die in the coming year, but the book isn’t sealed until Yom Kippur. These intermediate days are an opportunity to repent and change our fate before the final determination is made. It’s a great time to apologize to anybody you may have hurt in the last year, and humbly ask their forgiveness.
May you be inscribed and sealed for a new year filled with blessings, revealed miracles, and only good news!

being a jujutsu sorcerer and a parent rarely ends well. sorcerers who have to fight for their lives everyday barely have any time and energy even for themselves. adding babies to the picture is hard to imagine.
but gojo was determined to balance his work and personal life when you entered his life, which is why he has a baby girl strapped to his chest as he holds up his hand and crosses his fingers, already to send a special grade curse into his domain.
"daddy~" his baby babbles, cheek squished against his purple uniform.
"yes, baby?" gojo smiles down at his baby and gently sweeps her hair out of her eyes. he pays little to no attention to the curse, who had already spread out their domain and is currently sending wave after wave of attacks, all of which gojo repels with a touch. "this is domain expansion," he gently explains to her, smirking at the curse who is obviously offended that he wasn't taking them seriously. "in a second, you're gonna see daddy's domain."
his baby blinks and shuffles around in the strap, whining a bit as she tries to get comfortable. for all she knows, it's too dark and hot and she misses mommy's smell.
before she knows it, the space around her begins to look like the night sky, and she can't see the curse anymore.
"this is my domain," her daddy says, but she misses seeing the sun. why is it nighttime all of the sudden?
"nooo" she whines as she kicks around. where's the ice cream he promised her earlier? and where is mommy? she doesn't want to go to sleep yet!
"not easily impressed, hm?" he laughs, protectively holding his baby's head against his chest as he closes up his domain after finishing off the curse.
"let's go get ice cream, yeah?" he ruffles her hair and holds up her hands, dancing them up in the air with a huge grin. the sunlight hits her face again and a smile quickly reappears. "you did so good today. did you learn a lot about jujutsu fights today? did'ja enjoy our little adventure together?"
"ice cweam" she smiles, doing a few happy kicks. and that's how the tradition of getting ice cream after missions started for the daddy-daughter pair.
