All right, so maybe I went haring off to another fandom for awhile, but I will never fully let go of my STAR WARS fic reading roots because there's just so much incredible fic here and I have such intense feelings about these characters, like how can I possibly truly leave when this fandom knows how to scratch my id just right or make me cry over fictional characters or hyena laugh because you people are very funny? There's just so much fic that is so good that of course I keep coming back! Especially when it comes to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, there are just so many incredible people making incredible fics for them that feed right back into my love for their twisty, turny, complicated, beautiful, awful relationship. So here's a bunch of Obikin fic because the fandom is amazing and you should go love them as much as I love them, since you can hopefully completely sate yourself on a bunch of fantastic fic to read! Or idk send yourself into a grief coma because sometimes fic writers are almost as mean as canon was, but in the best way, the way that really hits you in the feelings place. Or idk idk just gorge on all the porn because DANG Obikin fandom brings the porn! WHAT KIND OF FIC YOU’LL FIND HERE:

TIME TO CRY ABOUT SOME FICTIONAL CHARACTERS
FICS THAT PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE WITH HOW GOOD THEY WERE: ✦ Neutron star collision by thedunesea, obi-wan/anakin & cast, NSFW, 121k wip     In the aftermath of Order 66, Anakin Skywalker's miraculous survival after his confrontation with the new Sith Apprentice Darth Vader ignites a sparkle of hope in the remaining Jedi, in the fledgling rebellion and, above all, in his former Master, who thought he had lost everything to darkness. But darkness is generous, and it is patient. ✦ Together in Slumber by ibex_ascendant, obi-wan/anakin, 2.4k wip     Several months after his last confrontation with Darth Vader, Obi-Wan finds himself trapped in a vivid and mysterious mindscape. And he isn't there alone. ✦ Satellite Mind by intermundia, septemberist, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 19.3k     Some doors, once opened, can never be closed, and some secrets, once learned, can never be forgotten. or, Five times Obi-Wan heard Anakin’s thoughts, and one time Anakin heard Obi-Wan’s. ✦ Slow Learner by Is0lde, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 12.6k     Four times Anakin tried to fit Obi-Wan's big dick inside him and one time he managed it. or; the evolution of their sexual relationship. ✦ Redolent of you by Himboskywalker, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, omegaverse, dom/sub, 31.3k wip     This act of espionage is going to require some class A play at antiquated alpha and omega dynamics, only problem is Anakin has never submitted in his life and it's certainly not within his nature,or so Obi-Wan thinks. ✦ Heal Me, My Darling by wasureneba, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, dom/sub, 12.4k     Anakin gets sick. Obi-Wan takes care of him. For two weeks. Alone. This would be easier if Anakin wasn't quite so gone for Obi-Wan. Or if this didn't involve a daily stab in the shebs. ✦ For He, too, is King by MayMeows, obi-wan/anakin & padme, NSFW, historical au, 7.7k     “I am here to present myself to the man who now calls himself King of my people.” Obi-Wan would be impressed as Anakin’s title as God-King, born from the divine himself, often struck people with awe, terrifying or glorifying, but Queen Amidala’s voice is as strong as her shoulders are squared. ✦ How to Save a Galactic Republic Without Really Trying by Sharp_Tongue, obi-wan/anakin & mace & yoda & quinlan & palpatine, nsfw, time travel, 23.9k     After defeating Vader on a barren, nameless moon, Obi-Wan had let go of the past. But the past hadn’t let go of him. ✦ (feel like i die) ‘til i feel your touch by decideophobia, obi-wan/anakin & yoda & mace & ahsoka, 15.5k     OR; Obi-Wan gets himself cursed and makes it everyone’s, but mainly Anakin’s, problem.
CANON-COMPLIANT (-ISH, WHATEVER) AT LEAST UP UNTIL THE GALAXY GOES PEAR-SHAPED AND/OR DIVERGES: ✦ Yellow Surprise by ToolMusicLover, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 11.1k     When Anakin is distant with him during a simple negotiation mission Obi-Wan jumps to the wrong conclusion, luckily for him Anakin isn't willing to let him go so easily. ✦ A Good Epithet by Artemis_Unbound, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 8.2k     Obi-Wan should have been happy. He had fulfilled Qui-Gon’s final wish. He had trained Anakin, he had spent ten years teaching the boy and watching him grow, he had cared for him and scolded him and coddled him by turns. He had, for better or worse, been Anakin Skywalker’s Master. ✦ hold on to this lullaby by decideophobia, obi-wan/anakin & rex, 1k     “Anakin,” Kenobi says with a hint of a reprimand in his voice. “Why aren’t you sleeping?” Skywalker staggers further into the room, and a faint blush spreads across his cheeks. He rolls his eyes but it doesn’t do anything to mitigate the color high on his face and the effect it has on his features: a pleased expression flashing clear as ion fire. Having made his way to one of the chairs, he drops down onto it with the elegance of a Hutt. ✦ Any Other World by mysticmjolnir, obi-wan/anakin & vader & leia & reva, NSFW, dimension hopping, 24.2k wip     Anakin has been looking for his Master for a very long time. Finally, on Mapuzo, he finds him. ✦ sea to a desert by maragny, obi-wan/anakin, nsfw, 3.1k     An interlude and an aftermath; or: how to love someone you seem to have spent half your life loving. ✦ spirit meets the bone by treescape, obi-wan/anakin, nsfw, time travel, dom/sub, 2k     Or, the Force keeps sending Anakin forward in time from the Clone Wars. ✦ Azúcar, Sudor by Delzi, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, spanking/discipline, 18.6k wip     Anakin can't stand Obi-Wan's new disciplinary tactic, but he absolutely loves it. ✦ Too Hot by secretsolarsystem, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 4.8k     Too Hot: A game where two players kiss without stopping and without touching each other. If one player touches the other, that player loses. The winner gets to do whatever they want to the loser. ✦ dream a little dream of me by answersinahauntedclub, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 10.3k     Anakin’s eyes snapped open. Oh no. Oh no. Anakin slumped back into the bed, staring down at himself in horror. Anakin Skywalker had just had a wet dream about Obi-Wan Kenobi. [or—you think you have problems? try having wet dreams of your friend-slash-former-master and then trying to figure out what that’s supposed to mean.] ✦ sea to a desert by maragny, obi-wan/anakin, nsfw, 3.1k     An interlude and an aftermath; or: how to love someone you seem to have spent half your life loving.
FUCK THE NOISE OUT OF ANAKIN SKYWALKER’S HEAD: ✦ Strings Pulled Taut by preromantics, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 4.8k     (AKA Anakin gets a bunch of gunk in his hair, Obi-Wan has been hyper-fixated, and it all bursts like a bubble.) ✦ dark red by wesnenski, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 1.9k     He feels Obi-Wan before he sees him: a ripple in the Force, a glow of warmth in the darkness. When he appears from the shadows like a bleary-eyed spectre, Anakin can only look up at him, nostrils flared, lip quivering. Here is his Master, tired and gaunt but solid and present and real. ✦ Take Care of Yourself, I Wish I Could by Kefalion, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, omegaverse, 7k     While Obi-Wan and Anakin are alone on a planet during a mission, Anakin goes into a presentation heat. One Obi-Wan will not help him through no matter how much they'd both want it. Not that they know that want is mutual. ✦ Fever by dirkygoodness, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, cat boy!anakin, 3.5k     Obi-Wan wakes up to a cuddly (Ny)Anakin and is met with something he isn't expecting. He's going to have to deal with it though. And enjoy himself as he does. ✦ sink into the dunes by stardies, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 9k     [A collection of small Obikin drabbles. Each chapter will have its own one shot.] 01. sfw, anakin’s separation anxiety. 02. first time nsfw. 03. obikin zine piece, sith!obi-wan, jedi!anakin, handjobs. ✦ a necessary respite by Anonymous, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 2.6k     to be fair, all of this is obiwan’s fault. even though his master is calmly sorting through reports the faint buzz of arousal in the back of both of their heads is majorly coming from him, anakin just can’t help but react to it. ✦ the lean and hungry type by tideswept, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, omegaverse, 4.5k     And so is Anakin, really, for being excited about this rather than angry. He wets his lower lip, striving to cohere his thoughts into something that isn’t appallingly horny, when Master speaks. “I’m not in rut,” he says quietly. “I wouldn’t spring that on you.” “I mean,” Anakin pauses. “You could.” ✦ when people show you who they are, believe them by RexIsMyCopilot, obi-wan/anakin, nsfw, spanking, dom/sub, 3k     Anakin has a meeting with the Chancellor. Obi-Wan convinces him to take a slow morning instead. ✦ needs must by silianrail, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, omegaverse, dual sex!anakin, 1.7k     Anakin must be the neediest omega in the entire temple, if not on the entire planet. But if Anakin is needy, what does that make Obi-Wan, who, after all, bends to so many of his padawan’s desires? ✦ Use Me by kittimau, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 2.5k     Anakin knows what Obi-Wan needs, even if he won't say it.
✦ Insatiable by TheSopherfly, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 1.8k     Obi-Wan meets Anakin’s eyes with a rueful smile. “You wanted it fast, yes?” “Yes.” Even without their responsibilities looming, Anakin would’ve wanted it like this; quick and dirty, like they just can’t help themselves. “Yeah. Fast is perfect.” “Good,” Obi-Wan says, punctuating the word with a single thrust. “Because I don’t think I’ll last long.” Or; With the twins still asleep, Anakin and Obi-Wan steal some time for themselves. ✦ Hazy Shade of Winter by Lemon (lemon_sprinkles), obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 2.7k     Obi-Wan runs hot; Anakin most definitely does not. Thankfully Obi-Wan is there to warm Anakin up when things get unusually cold in the Jedi Temple. ✦ The Love You Want by passeridae, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, potential dub con-esque (read the tags), 6.8k     They've returned to their rooms after sparring, flushed and laughing and close enough that the very air feels heated between them. Once the door has closed, Obi-Wan turns to Anakin, smiling, takes Anakin's jaw in the cup of his hand and kisses him like the first blush of spring. "You'll be good for me, won't you?" he murmurs, and Anakin does nothing more than dreamily nod because he knows just what to do when he's slipped under like this. Knows his job is to be obedient and pliant and good. ✦ Handle Me With Care by greeneyes_blondequiffs, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, omegaverse, 5.3k     Obi Wan wants Anakin but he knows he shouldn't. He also knows that there is no way he could ever act on it - or so he thought. ✦ tear me apart by RexIsMyCopilot, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, dom/sub, 2.4k     Obi-Wan uses Anakin in the Council Chamber ✦ A Lesson in Listening by GayCheerios, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, dom/sub, toys, 4.4k     “Anakin,” Obi-Wan says simply. Anakin feels chills run down his spine. That tone means everything except simplicity. “Bedroom.” His husband commands. ✦ Keeping Company by Gwendolyn (storiesofchaos), obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, omegaverse, 11.1k     "So, will you? Will you help me through my heat? Please, I want you to fuck me, Master, I need it." Anakin doesn't care that he's begging already, but he's getting even wetter between his legs and he can't help it. Obi-Wan doesn't seem to mind anyway, because he groans and drags his fingers up into Anakin's hair and tugs slightly, making Anakin gasp. "Force, yes, I'll give you what you need, Anakin." ✦ king unmaker by unbitten, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, transmasc!anakin, royalty au, 4.4k     How to get your King to stop playing hooky from his appointments to make trips to the brothel? Scold him. Stare disapprovingly. Fuck him yourself.
DARTH ASSHOLE CAT SHOULD BE GRABBED BY THE SCRUFF OF THE NECK AND SCOLDED BACK TO THE LIGHT: ✦ Reunion by Himboskywalker, obi-wan/darth vader, ~1k     Some sweetness to help with the absolute agony of Obi-Wan lol ✦ The Jedi Child by RowenaNie, obi-wan/darth vader & luke & leia & cast, NSFW, pregnant!anakin, 48.1k     “The emperor has put my replacement inside of me,” Vader said. ✦ Hand in Unlovable Hand by Rachello344, obi-wan/darth vader, NSFW, 2.8k     Post Kenobi Part VI: Instead of leaving Vader for dead, Obi-Wan finds himself unable to abandon his dear friend again and so takes him with him. How can Obi-Wan Kenobi live without the other half of himself? Whatever it takes, he will drag Anakin back to himself, kicking and screaming. ✦ dreamscape melodies by egeria, obi-wan/darth vader, NSFW, 2.9k     "The layers you Jedi wear are ridiculous," Vader grumbled. Obi-Wan let out a huff. "We're in a dream, are we not? Can we not just will our clothes off?" -- or: Vader is in heat and Obi-Wan is in his dream. It's still complicated. ✦ to restrain the darkness by treescape, obi-wan/darth vader, NSFW, some dom/sub, 2k     Or, Vader wants Obi-Wan to tie him up. ✦ dreams of old by treescape, obi-wan/darth vader, nsfw, 4.1k wip     Obi-Wan surrenders to Vader on Jabiim in exchange for everyone else's freedom.
FUCK YOU, CANON, THINGS GO A LITTLE NICER IN THIS UNIVERSE: ✦ afterimages by shatou, obi-wan/anakin, 1.3k     Mustafar is nothing but a bad dream. ✦ Sticky by Delziae, obi-wan/anakin & padme & ahsoka & rex & cast, NSFW, omegaverse, 25.9k     [Or: In which Anakin is too horny to handle and Obi-wan has a bit less control than he originally thought.] ✦ That Never Wrote To Me by Artemis_Unbound, obi-wan/anakin & cast, NSFW, omegaverse, 5.3k     After the Rako Hardeen mission, everyone Obi-Wan loves has turned away from him. It’s been months since he’s even seen Anakin, but their bond had been closed off for years. Knowing that Anakin would never want him the way Obi-Wan wanted Anakin had been painful enough, but at least he still had their friendship. And now even that’s gone, and the cold has settled into his bones. Acute Isolation Syndrome is so rare that Obi-Wan doesn’t recognize the symptoms. Doesn’t even realize that he’s dying. ✦ dream a little dream of me by answersinahauntedclub, obi-wan/anakin & ahsoka & padme, 10.3k     [or—you think you have problems? try having wet dreams of your friend-slash-former-master and then trying to figure out what that’s supposed to mean.] ✦ Stargazing by thegingerwrites, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 21k     Anakin and Obi-Wan have become too well-known on the Holonet to take on undercover assignments anymore. But desperate times call for desperate measures and the Council asks them to make contact with a Separatist defector at a gala hosted on Mandalore. At least the event is a masquerade. ✦ praise you by RagnarLothcat, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 17.9k     An act of insubordination, a crash landing and a trek through the forests of an uncharted planet bring Anakin and Obi-Wan to a very hospitable village. Sure they think Anakin is a god, but really, what's wrong with wanting to be appreciated? ✦ terribly inconvenient and incredibly terrific by tennessoui, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, omegaverse, 24.8k     Obi-Wan has the sheer nerve to imply that Anakin is ill-suited for a mission he himself is going on, which means that Anakin will stop at nothing to prove his old master wrong. After all, Anakin can do anything Obi-Wan can do, thank you very much. Even if maybe, just this one time, Obi-Wan is right. This mission relies on the one area of Anakin's life he's never spent much time or effort thinking about: his omega designation and Obi-Wan's alpha one. But there's no way that Anakin is going to back down now. What will Obi-Wan do? Go to the planet with another, non-Anakin omega? Don't make him laugh. He's Obi-Wan's partner. And Obi-Wan is his alpha. Alpha master. Same thing. ✦ and when you look at me, the weight of how i feel is heavy on me by brahe, obi-wan/anakin & ahsoka & mace & depa & qui-gon & rex & cast, 37.9k     “Jus’ like a sun,” Anakin murmurs, and Obi-Wan has to strain to hear it, almost misses it. He stills. “Beautiful shining sun,” Anakin continues, and presses his face further into the pool of robes. His voice is slow and sleepy, and Obi-Wan realizes he can tell Anakin is about to drop off into sleep. He blinks, lifting his head to stare down at him in something between awe and shock. That seems to be the standard operating procedure when it comes to Anakin, he thinks, a little wry, a little wondrous.
WORLD IS HARD AND COLD, OBIKIN FLUFF IS SOFT AND WARM: ✦ a vacationer's guide to being unexpectedly married by treescape, obi-wan/anakin & cast, 7.8k     “A vacation, you need,” Master Yoda had insisted firmly beneath their incredulous stares when they’d first received their instructions. “On a beach, perhaps, hmmm?” ✦ The Lonely Mollusk by temple_mistress, obi-wan/anakin & luke & leia, nsfw, 2k     Obi-Wan was incredibly horny, Anakin was, Force-bless him, more than ready to oblige, and the children were miraculously still sleeping. ✦ looking for trouble by orphan_account, obi-wan/anakin (mentioned obi-wan/anakin/padme), spanking, 1.7k     Anakin gets in a fight. Obi-Wan cleans him up and spanks him.
MODERN AUS CAN BE FUN AND CHARMING AS HELL AND A GREAT CHANCE TO MAP CANON DYNAMICS ONTO A WORLD WHERE THEY CAN HAVE A HAPPIER LIFE, IT’S A WIN ALL THE WAY AROUND: ✦ (I just) died in your arms tonight by Himboskywalker, obi-wan/anakin & padme & cast, modern au, 2.5k wip     Where Obi-Wan is still a master of politics and Anakin still fixes spaceships and they’re still irrevocably obsessed with one another. ✦ Win Condition by passeridae, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, modern au, F1 au, 4.3k     Anakin has just won his first race of his F1 career and Obi-Wan, his longtime trainer and partner, knows just what his boy should get as a reward. (His dick. The reward is his dick.) ✦ Hooked on You by whohatessand, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, modern au, 5.2k     With his wife's approaching senatorial election, Anakin Skywalker tries desperately to be the perfect husband she needs. Little does Padmé know, her husband has been sleeping with her campaign manager, Obi-Wan Kenobi, for quite a while now. ✦ we’re swimming with the sharks (until we drown) by decideophobia, obi-wan/anakin, modern au, fake married, 5.8k wip     He looks up and meets Anakin’s eyes. A thoughtful expression passes over his face. “Married people are paid significantly more,” he says then, slowly, looking at Anakin like he’s trying to solve a riddle. Anakin stares, dumbstruck. “Huh.” ✦ Would You Like Cream With That? by ranianke, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, modern au, professor obi-wan, 2.1k     Obi-Wan was a good teacher. His students learned the content, he got flattering reviews (even when you ignored the chili pepper Rate My Professors reviews that he could not seem to get taken down), and he generally liked teaching. Good professors did not sleep with their students. ✦ Pride & Preparation by secretsolarsystem, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, modern au, school au, 5.6k     “You’re beautiful,” Anakin praised, making Obi-Wan blush. “And nervous.” Obi-Wan scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Of course I’m nervous.” “You shouldn’t be,” Anakin said easily, pressing a kiss to Obi-Wan’s lips. “I love you, and this is going to be really fun.” ✦ swear each night to let him go by vorpalstars, obi-wan/anakin & padme & ahsoka, NSFW, modern au, professor!obi-wan, 10.3k wip     Anakin develops an unfortunate amount of lust for his literature teacher ✦ Seven Minutes in Anakin by Saratutti, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, modern au, dom/sub, 1.9k     Fully enamored doesn't even begin to describe Anakin’s captivation with the gorgeous professor he has stumbled into dating this Christmas season. ✦ The Melody Wakes the Heart by edgeofn1ght, obi-wan/anakin, modern au, 3.5k     However, it's practically love at first sight when Obi-Wan passes a new busker working the alley he passes through every day going to and from work. ✦ Pick-up Games by SingManyFaces, obi-wan/anakin, modern au, 1.1k     Ben’s quiet afternoon is ruined by a basketball player who needs some medical attention. He doesn’t mind too much. ✦ Prompted - Chapter 22: Brakebills by intermundia, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, 10.2k     Anakin Skywalker was not a typical student of Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy.
WHAT DID CANON EVER DO BUT BREAK OUR HEARTS ANYWAY? TIME TO TELL CANON TO FUCK OFF AND WRITE AN AU: ✦ death by any other name by loosingletters, obi-wan/anakin & qui-gon, vampire au, 11.5k     While on a mission during his years as a Padawan, Obi-Wan escapes the tight hold of death transformed into something not quite human. In the years following, he isn’t always so lucky. ✦ Till Human Voices Wake Us by RagnarLothcat, obi-wan/anakin, mer!anakin, 2.7k     It’s late summer when Obi-Wan first notices a flash of gold between the waves. ✦ Goodbye by Ripki, obi-wan/anakin & qui-gon, nsfw, 1.2k     Anakin has no wish to leave Obi-Wan, not when they have just been reunited. Luckily for him, Obi-Wan is good at making their goodbye very memorable. ✦ tender like a bruise by stardies, obi-wan/anakin & cast, omegaverse, 6.8k wip     In a stroke of desperation, Obi-wan mates Anakin Skywalker by force on the fiery planet of Mustafar to stop his Fall and save his life. Taken back to Coruscant and imprisoned, Anakin feels the senate's pressure for justice, and Obi-wan, his mate and former mentor is determined to give him another chance. ✦ canaries underground by TheGoodDoctor, obi-wan/padme & references to anakin/padme & obi-wan/anakin & obi-wan/anakin/padme, NSFW, padme lives, 10k     There are good days, and bad days. This is a good one. ✦ use my body to break your fall by tennessoui, obi-wan/anakin & padme & ahsoka & mace & yoda & palpatine & cast, NSFW, Not a Jedi!Anakin, Sith!Obi-Wan, 63.5k     Obi-Wan Kenobi is too good at being a Sith Lord general of the Separatist army. The Jedi Council approaches Anakin with an offer he can't refuse. These things are, actually, related.
TIME TO CRY ABOUT SOME FICTIONAL CHARACTERS: ✦ you can't just leave me by amadwinter, obi-wan/anakin, nsfw, omegaverse, 1.6k     Anakin swears he’s above his Omega instincts, but when he’s sparring with his Alpha master one day, some wires get crossed that leave him unable to distinguish friend from foe. A primal fear consumes him, and no amount of Jedi training will shake the feeling he needs to escape. He needs to protect himself from the dangerous Alpha circling around him, searching for any sign of weakness. When backed into a corner, an Omega’s last line of defense is their bite. After all, an Alpha would never hurt their mate… ✦ A Little Early, A Little Late by greeneyes_blondequiffs, obi-wan/anakin, omegaverse, pregnant!anakin, 7.4k     Anakin finds out he's pregnant. The problem is that his mating ceremony isn't for another four months. ✦ Sweet Surprise by greeneyes_blondequiffs, obi-wan/anakin, nsfw, omegaverse, pregnant!anakin, 12.3k     Obi Wan and Anakin are forced to land on an unfamiliar planet. Anakin is perplexed by everyone's obvious interest in him, unsure what could be causing it. That is, until he receives some unexpected news. The problem is, Anakin's not quite sure he believes it. The other problem is what Obi Wan might think when he finds out. ✦ That Never Wrote To Me by Artemis_Unbound, obi-wan/anakin & ahsoka & vokara, NSFW, omegaverse, pregnant!anakin, 5.3k     After the Rako Hardeen mission, everyone Obi-Wan loves has turned away from him.

Hey Will!
You seem to be very well-versed in the Star Wars books, and I was wondering if you could recommend essential reading as regards Obi-Wan and Anakin’s relationship (or character studies of them in general)? We all know about the ROTS novelization, but I was wondering what else you would recommend?
Any other prequel era book recs would be welcomed as well!

📖 = book 💥 = comic 🔰 = YA 📙 = legends 📕 = quasi-canon (novelizations only canon when they line up with the films) 📗 = canon 💙 = favorite or essential imho
this list is not at all comprehensive, but merely the ones that i have found to be good sources for both/either characters as i've explored the lore over time!! they are not all of equal credibility, with legends and YA novels being less vivid in the mind than the canon ones. i'm listing so many because i like so many, but this is hopefully not intimidating as much as it is a full buffet for you to choose from!!!
also: 💙 Darth Plagueis 💙 it's not about the Team, but it is a phenomenal worldbuilding book for the prequels in general
<!--also also: the tv shows and movies are the most important sources for the characters, more important than the written word: the prequel films and the original trilogy, the clone wars movie, the kenobi show, the 2008 clone wars tv show, some rebels, (and then the legends 2003 clone wars tv show) are best sources for them. it’s a lot to watch but it's the most accurate representation of who they are!--->

Hux. Short version, Hux reveals Kylo killing Snoke to the FIrst Order leadership. Hux ousts Ben and becomes Supreme Leader. Now Hux plans to exterminate The Jedi, force sensitives everywhere and lead to the death of the force. Long version read here.
Kylo as the villain. Adam Driver said the plan was never to redeem Ben Solo, that was a late change to appease everyone. So my big pitch for Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. To me Kylo Ren is what Vader could’ve been had he reached his full potential. A Vader who was never wounded on Mustafar, a Vader who killed a close family member and his master. He is the villain they were looking for, but no they had to course correct. As for what his motivation could be, exactly what he said. Finish what Vader started. Destroy the Light and reign over the galaxy as Supreme Leader. Long version. Other look at Kylo as the villain
Snoke's essence transferred into Kylo Ren the moment he killed Snoke.
Darth Plagueis was a powerful Sith Lord who could influence the midichlorians to create life and also save others from dying. He taught everything he knew to his apprentice, Sheev Palpatine (aka Darth Sidious), but he eventually lost his power and young Palpatine killed him in his sleep. How could Plagueis not foresee his own demise at the hands of his ambitious apprentice? Why did Plagueis suddenly “lose his power”? The truth is, he didn’t lose his power and he knew Sidious planned to kill him. It was part of the plan. By dying, I believe Darth Plagueis was able to transmit himself into Sheev and assume control of his body, almost like an infectious disease. Ever notice his name? Darth Plagueis. Plague, as in an infectious disease. Darth Plagueis unlocked the secret to immortality by moving from one body to the next, continuing his lifespan through multiple hosts over countless years. Ever wonder why Palpatine was so obsessed with training a powerful young apprentice? Surely he knew that one day the apprentice would want to overthrow him, so why train his own murderer? In Return of the Jedi, Emperor Palpatine continually provokes Luke to strike him down. Why would Palpatine want to be killed if the goal is longevity? Because Emperor Palpatine was assumed by Darth Plagueis and, through his death, he would then be able to transmit himself into a new host body. He wasn’t just looking for an apprentice, he was looking for a new body since Palpatine’s body was growing old. Luke Skywalker was meant to be the next host body for Darth Plagueis. But unfortunately for Plagueis, Darth Vader had a change of heart and defeated the Emperor. Snoke was Plagueis. It’s the only way to make things work. StarWars.com describes Snoke as a seeker of arcane and ancient lore, and the Last Jedi Visual Dictionary shows that he is a collector of rare memorabilia. At some point, Snoke must have found the wreckage of the Death Star on the forest moon Endor, and was infected by Darth Plagueis when he came upon the corpse of Palpatine. Did you ever wonder why Snoke thought it was so important to complete Kylo Ren’s training? It’s because Snoke was Darth Plagueis and he was training his next host body. Plagueis didn’t have a choice but to infect a really old political influencer like Snoke. Kylo was being groomed to become the next host body. Remember the infamous scene in The Last Jedi where Snoke is “predicting” how Kylo Ren will kill Rey? Wasn’t it a little too obvious? Wouldn’t Snoke have been able to foresee Kylo’s treachery? See through his conflict? It’s because he wasn’t predicting Rey’s death, he predicted his own. He knew Kylo would kill him. He deliberately bullied and provoked Kylo in order to stir his anger into hatred to further fuel his dark side and lead him to completing his training.
So Darth Plagueis goal would be to transfer his essence into Rey and in failing in that. He will drain the life force from the Dyad to satiate his own life force.
Thrawn. Cardinal West's Sequel Trilogy rewrite has the best take of Thrawn as the villain
youtube
Rae Sloane.
Rae Sloane founded The First Order! Sloane was loyal to the Empire, so much so, rather than allowing it to cease to exist, she recruited other loyalists and they fled to the Unknown Territories beyond Jakku. She founded the First Order. Together with Hux, she could usurp control of the First Order and become Supreme Leader, which would start a civil war, those loyal to Sloane and those loyal to Kylo. We can have someone who could be a great antagonist to Leia. The founder of The First Order and the mother of the Resistance. What makes Rae a compelling character is the fact that she believes what the Empire is doing is right. In her eyes, the Empire is doing the right thing, purging lawlessness from a galaxy overrun by bureaucrats that care little for the common people. She’s wrong, but like great villains before her, audiences can see where she’s coming from even if they don’t agree with it. Throughout her many appearances in the supplemental Star Wars narratives, she is constantly pushing for the Empire to be “just.” When things start to fall apart after the Battle of Endor, Rae struggles to keep the remnants of the fleet playing by the unspoken rules of warfare and is frustrated to see the Empire careen into backstabbing and incompetence. You can see Rae’s influence in the First Order with its strict hierarchy and minute by-the-books stringency that makes Palpatine’s Empire look positively laissez-faire by comparison. Supreme Leader Rae Sloane would make The First Order a force to be reckoned with and what better way to end it than with the First Order’s founder?
The Grysks.
The Grysks were introduced in the new canon novel Thrawn:Alliances. They are what brings Thrawn to the Empire in hopes of co-existing to fight this threat in the Unknown Regions. Grysks are a species living somewhere in the Unknown Regions. Creatures half of myth, whom few have ever seen. It is said that they are nomads, with no fixed home, traveling in spacecraft so numerous they blot out the stars. They are said to be terrifying warriors, overwhelming their opponents by sheer numbers and ferocity. The fact that these intergalactic conquerors are not the main threat in the Sequel Trilogy is baffling. You could’ve had Ben Solo sense they were coming during his Jedi days and made the ultimate sacrifice to become Kylo Ren and join The First Order because he knew the New Republic was not ready to face such a threat. It wouldn’t make what he was doing the entire trilogy right, but it would make explain why he turned and what his motivations are.
I don't really have a explanation for Qi'Ra, but she was trained by Maul, took over the Crimson Dawn and you don't waste Emilia Clarke on one movie that never continued. So Qi'Ra as the villain could've worked.
A Mandalorian invasion lead by Fett writes itself.
I know it's technically Palpatine, but it works better because we don't stupidly retcon Anakin's sacrifice. This was planned, but the idiots that be decided it would be better if Ian played him. So instead this is the perfected clone. The Clone Wars were a test for Palpatine to perfect cloning. Throughout the reign as Emperor, he tinkered with cloning force sensitives, created a lot of failures(Snoke) but prior to Endor, he perfected it and kept it as a fail safe should he die. And after Kylo Ren killed Snoke, he awakened. Palpatine reborn. The movie opens at the end of the war. Finn successfully consurs up a Stormtrooper Rebellion and all the FO officers are executed, Hux is captured and Rey beats Kylo Ren for the umpteenth time. The First Order are on their last legs. Until a message is delivered to the galaxy.
“People of the galaxy. Your Emperor has returned after thirty long, lawless years. To the Sith and the Jedi; follow the Holocrons. We have much work to do. Those who remained loyal to me shall be rewarded. For those who relished in my demise, who celebrated what they thought the end of the Empire and believed their treachery had won them the galaxy…only death and suffering await. The great error shall be corrected. The day of victory is at hand. The restoration of the Empire! The Final Order! The Day of the Sith!”
And it's a race. Rey and the Resistance hoping to stop The Emperor, while Kylo Ren is hoping to kill Palpatine, obtain the power of the Sith Eternal and an infinite fleet that will win the galaxy, but in the end, Rey and Kylo are forced to work together. Matt Smith as Palpatine could've fixed the movie
The final contingency of the Emperor. Cloning Luke Skywalker. Palpatine had foreseen either Luke will kill him and Vader or Vader will betray him. So Palpatine orders that Luke's hand be brought to him. Luke is cloned, but imperfectly. He is just a husk of power, so Palpatine has the greatest minds of the Empire indoctrinate this malleable clone to being the heir and the eventual savior of the Empire. This clone. Let's refer to him as Luuke. Luuke learned everything there was from Palpatine. His Machiavellian cunning mechanisms. Mastery over the dark side and fully believed in his master's will and plans for him.
Luuke foresaw that there would be problems if he revealed himself. SO he created a puppet, Snoke. Through Snoke, he turned Kylo Ren to the dark side and puppeteered The First Order. Masterminding everything from the shadows and after Snoke and the real Luke Skywalker's deaths, it was time to reveal himself.
Luuke's motivations are to bring Kylo Ren to heel or cast him aside, turn Rey to the dark side or kill her and rule the galaxy as his master intended for him. This dark side Luke would unite both Rey and Ben against him and would give Mark Hamill the opportunity to play a dark side Luke Skywalker.

It’s mentioned in the costume description of the Heavy Training Gear that the outfit is ‘homemade’ by Starkiller, and that got me thinking. Are ALL of his outfits homemade?
Tumblr media
Is Darth Vader’s adopted son secret apprentice hunched over a sewing machine in the back of the Rogue Shadow, making his own slutty little outfits?
All of the outfits in The Force Unleashed 1 look pretty cobbled-together, and god DAMN are some of them intricate.
Tumblr media
Starkiller literally fabricated an entire bounty hunter disguise specifically to talk to Kota once, and then it just sits in his fucking closet forever.
Tumblr media
And then in Force Unleashed II, we get to Starkiller’s first chosen outfit in the game, and it’s this:
Tumblr media
If it was just the TIE pilot’s jacket, I would not bat an eye, but he fucking unzips it halfway EXCLUSIVELY as a fashion statement. He and luke both shop at the same fucking stores, is what I’m saying.
“Boy, are those the—”
“The Chanel boots? Yeah, Kota. They are.”
Anyways.
For the rest of the game we are clued into Clone Galen being a different person than Starkiller through one small clue: aesthetic sensibility.
Starkiller is all about the avant-garde, full theme commitment outfits. He exposes the nipples. He layers the robes. No half measures. He’s an auteur. He’s cutting-fucking-edge on the scene.
1138 is a practical technician, and all of his outfits are based around personal motifs rather than bold concepts. You will notice the prevalence of short sleeves in his collection. His pieces are all about adaptability in the field, rather than a shock opening. His use of Jar’Kai might also warrant this alteration sleeve length - fashion can unfortunately be flammable, after all.
The two both share a love of asymmetry, however, which pervades many of their works. 1138 has started sporting more ambidextrous designs, likely to better complement his evolved fighting style. Niman is, after all, the Moderation form - harmony and balance are important creatively in the costume as much as they are important for combat.
Where was I going with this?

What You Stand to Lose (Sith!Anakin Skywalker)
Summary: You meet Darth Vader again, this time in the hopes of finding answers as to why you've been bonded through the Force to him since the moment you met. Things spiral out of control very quickly.
Word Count: 3.6k
A/N: I've wanted to write a lightsaber fight for a while, and finally decided to tackle it! Very excited and proud of this, and I hope that you guys enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! Warnings for combat and general existential crises.
Read my other Sith!Anakin/Rebel!reader stuff here!
Tumblr media
The moon that you’ve found yourself on is lush and green, completely unlike what you would expect a Sith to pick for a secret meeting location. You’re so sure that you landed on the wrong planet that you check the coordinates again, sure that you typed them in your ship’s navigation system wrong. They’re correct, though, and you sigh before opening up the ship’s door. It’s now or never.
This is, by far, one of the stupidest things that you’ve ever done. And you’ve done a lot of stupid things in your life. But deciding to secretly meet with the Sith Lord that you share an odd Force bond with? You’ve surely lost your mind.
It hadn’t been your idea. During one of your shared dreams with Darth Vader, which were becoming more and more common as time went on, he had mentioned that he had found holocrons in the old Jedi archives (which were supposed to be destroyed long ago, but hadn’t been) that might give you both some answers. While you were content with waiting for him to search through these holocrons and come to you with the magic solution to your problem, he had a few good reasons to be hesitant.
The first reason was that, if he were to suddenly start spending his time hiding and reading and researching, people would get suspicious and inevitably there would be questions asked. Specifically, the Emperor would get suspicious. Though Vader didn’t go into details – somehow, a silent agreement had been reached not to talk about “work” when around each other in dreams – you got the feeling that their relationship was contentious at best and toxic at worst. If the Emperor were to find out that his protege, his apprentice, was hiding secrets of this magnitude, then it would be Vader’s funeral. And until you figure out just how deep this bond goes, you’d rather not test it with one half of the bond being killed.
The second reason was that there were just too many damn holocrons for one person to search through. It would take him days, if not weeks, to look through every record that even mentions Force bonds or shared dreams. He could only look through so many before reason number one became a problem again.
So, you begrudgingly agreed to meet with him on a moon that was basically forgotten, one that neither the Empire nor the Rebel Alliance had yet touched. Making your ship untraceable and sneaking away was the easy part. The hard part, as it turns out, is gathering the nerve to stand up and walk out to actually meet with Darth Vader. He’s here somewhere, you know–you can feel his proximity to you, probably thanks to the bond. The tug of the bond becomes too much for you to ignore, and you stand with a sigh and allow it to lead you.
It’s only a couple of minutes of walking before you stop in a clearing, knowing that he’s here somewhere. You spin in a slow circle, looking for a glimpse of black robes or yellow eyes, but you can’t find any sign of him.
“I know you’re here, Vader,” you call, your voice echoing through the imposing mountains of this moon.
He appears out of nowhere, though you know he likely used some aspect of the Force you’re not yet familiar with to cloak himself from you. It’s the first time you’ve seen him in his suit since the day you first met. Now that you’re not struck with fear, you can fully admire just how powerful he looks in it. The buttons on his chest plate glow green and red; what purpose they serve, you’re not too sure. Gloves cover his hands and stretch up the length of his strong forearms, though his right glove seems to be more reinforced than his left one. That damn cape of his billows out behind him, making him look like a member of royalty. You’ll never admit it, but you love when he wears it.
The one thing that’s missing from his ensemble is his helmet. There’s no sign of it, and you assume he left it back on his own ship. Though he’s revealed himself to you, you both stand a few paces apart. You’re both uneasy about being around the other, trying to figure out if you’re being lured into a trap of some sort. Even if it weren’t for the bond, something in you knows that he hasn’t betrayed you.
“I’ll admit, I’m surprised you actually showed up,” Vader says, appraising you as he takes one slow step closer.
You shrug. “Said I’d be here, didn’t I?”
“You did.”
He produces a bag from within the confines of his cloak, tossing it on the ground between you. Small objects in all manor of shapes spill out and scatter in the grass. It appears Vader did his job, and he did it well. Slowly, he sits down on the grass, his cloak trailing behind him. He looks at you expectantly, and you realize that this is a peace offering. He’s putting himself in a vulnerable position first, giving you the choice to attack. Instead, you sit down next to him, and he pushes a couple of holocrons towards you with a smirk.
“Shall we?”
A couple of hours later, you’ve gone through every single holocron that Vader brought. Your eyes hurt from the strain of reading so much information, back-to-back-to-back. So much talk of dreams and bonds, yet none of it gives you any clarity for your situation. The dreams mentioned were merely visions that most Force users got, the bonds being between master and apprentice. Nothing in any of these explains involuntary Force bonds between two people who had never met before, shared dreams, or being able to sense someone who’s not your master or apprentice.
“This is useless,” you grumble, tossing a holocron from hand to hand. Vader stands, pacing back and forth as he continues to go through what he’s already looked at.
“No, there has to be something here.”
“There’s not. We’ve both looked at all of these, and nothing applies to our situation. Maybe…maybe it’s in other holocrons that you didn’t grab. You said you only grabbed as many as you could, right?”
“Yes, but I don’t know how many more hundreds of holocrons I can take and replace while simultaneously disappearing for hours at a time.”
“Dammit.”
Vader stares at a spot on the ground, thinking. After a moment, he says, “I might have another lead, but it would be risky. It’s on a neutral planet, though. Takodana.”
You hum noncommittally, not too happy at the thought of following another fruitless lead. You’re already wasting too much time and brainpower on this situation, and becoming far too entangled with the dark side of the Force. Some nights, when you lay awake and stare at the ceiling, you think that you can hear it whispering to you, attempting to seduce you.
You hate how tantalizing it can be.
Vader finally stops his pacing when he’s in front of you. You look up from the holocron in your hands, slowly trailing up until you meet his eyes. “Spar with me,” Vader says to you, already unclipping his lightsaber from the black utility belt around his waist. You look at him in bewilderment.
“I thought we agreed that this…rendezvous would end without bloodshed.”
“And it will. I’m nothing if not a man of my word, Rebel.”
A smile lights up his handsome face as he activates his red lightsaber, casually twirling it in his hand. You try your hardest to ignore the way that your stomach stirs at the sight and scramble to your feet.
“However, you’ve acquired a weapon of your own now, and I’m quite interested in seeing how you handle it.”
Though you’re still wary, you unsheath your own lightsaber and stare down at the blue color emanating from it. You hadn’t gotten the experience of your Jedi forefathers who were able to travel to Ilum and pick their own kyber crystals. Instead, your mentor – Dia hated the idea of being called ‘Master’ – had shown you to a room full of the lightsabers of fallen Jedi. Force-sensitives were low on options, and it’s not as though the weapons were being used, so the morbid ritual of a dead Jedi’s kyber choosing a new owner was becoming more and more common among those who had managed to escape the brutality of the Inquisitors.
It was quite the solemn experience, walking through what could only be described as a tomb and sifting through the emotions, the experiences, that each crystal had stored within it. You were thankful that your crystal had come to you, the lightsaber un-wedging itself from under a pile and flying into your hand. From there, you were able to use discarded parts to create your own lightsaber, though you would forever thank the Jedi whose name you didn’t know for the gift of their crystal to help you complete your weapon. Every time you saw that beautiful blue glow, you liked to think that this Jedi’s Force essence was there with you, teaching you.
“I had my lightsaber back on Batuu,” you point out.
“We were, unfortunately, too busy running from our captors to waste any time discussing that which wasn’t directly related to our mission. Or did you forget?”
You roll your eyes, shifting into an attack stance. How could you ever forget that experience? How could you ever want to forget that experience?
Vader goes into a stance of his own, and you both stare at each other for a moment, engaging in a battle of wills and daring the other to make the first move. The Force sparks and crackles around you, something beautiful and untamed and alive, and you try to listen to the clues that it wants to give you. When you feel it lurch, you do the same, just barely blocking Vader’s low swipe as he strikes first.
From there the pace only picks up, blades crashing against each other and emitting purple pulses of energy whenever they do. Vader’s good, and it’s obvious that his skills are nowhere near exaggerated. You’ve heard stories of the legendary Anakin Skywalker and his astonishing droid kill-count from the Clone Wars–though Ahsoka, in the short time that she’s been a part of the Rebel Alliance, is always quick to tell you that she was just a few behind him. With the power of the Dark Side coursing through his veins, he’s only gotten more deadly in battle. You’re keenly aware of the fact that, if this was an actual fight, he could easily snap your neck with the Force.
Though he fights with grace, his saber twirling from hand to hand as he attempts to back you into a corner, there’s also a viciousness behind the intensity of his strikes. He violently brings his weapon down while trying to find a weakness, and you meet him with yours. You crash into a stalemate, your blades locked together as you glare at each other through the heat of the lightsabers.
“You’re good,” Anakin comments, baring his teeth in a savage grin. “Who’s been training you?”
You badly want to tell him that you’ve been receiving lessons from his former Padawan, but you know that it’s not your place to reveal her whereabouts to him. Instead, you respond, “Dia Dorvin.”
“Hmm, she was knighted right before the fall of the Jedi Order, yes?” You must show some surprise in your eyes, as Vader smirks while forcing your shaking arms to continue to hold the defensive lock you’ve found yourselves in. “The Order was not that large. Dia accompanied me on a couple of low-stakes missions when her master was off doing something too dangerous for a Padawan to be a part of.”
You overpower him just enough to shove him away from you with your foot kicking his chest, flipping over him until you land behind him with the hopes of catching him off-guard. He’s fast, fast enough that he’s matching your swings before he even turns around all the way.
He leaves his middle open, and you assume that you have him. You wouldn’t kill him, of course, but sparring dictates any contact equals a win. If you can just singe the leather of his suit, then you can declare victory over him. The need to win is all that you can think about, yet you don’t know why you feel so strongly about this. Maybe it’s because nothing involving you and Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker, can be anything below the highest intensity.
You strike, putting all of your weight behind your movement as you slash your lightsaber towards him. He drops to his knees to avoid the heat of your weapon before coming back up to his full, intimidating height. His foot hooks behind yours and pulls it out from under you, making you collapse to the floor with a surprised gasp as your saber falls out of your hand and rolls away from you. Your back hits the surface harshly, and you feel the stinging pain for only a second before forcing yourself to get back to your feet.
Vader beats you to it, digging his knee into your chest to keep you pinned to the floor. He brings his lips to your ear and his weapon to your throat, and you swallow when you feel the heat right against your skin.
“I win.”
His voice is just a little louder than the humming of his lightsaber, which he finally extinguishes after a moment and tosses to the side. Still, he doesn’t remove his weight off of your body. You’re both breathing heavily, but at this point you don’t know whether it’s from the physical exertion or Vader’s proximity to you.
You’ve heard Force users older than you talk about how the Force is meant to guide you, how they often know what is right or wrong based on how the Force responds. You’re still trying to learn when and how to listen to it, but its teachings are frustratingly vague a lot of the time. When Vader removes his knee and leans down even further, and you sit up enough to connect your lips to his, the Force sings around you, rejoicing in the fruition of its hard work. Nothing has ever felt so right, and never have you been so sure of what the Force is trying to tell you than at this moment.
Vader’s lips, much like everything else about him, are rough and full of passion. Yet there’s a softness that he tries to keep hidden, one that translates to the way that he rests his hand against the back of your head to pull you into him. You wrap your own arms around his neck in response, and he moves to straddle your waist.
This is wrong. It’s so, so wrong. This is a Sith Lord you’re kissing, one who’s made it clear that he wants to corrupt you into his apprentice. He serves as the enforcer for a cruel regime that seeks to bring the entire galaxy under its rule, and he does so with a bloodthirsty joy. He’s working to destroy the embers of hope that the Rebel Alliance is fanning into flames, the hope that you’re willing to defend with your life. Kissing him is wrong.
Why, then, does it feel so right? Why does the Force continue to put you in situations where you’re forced to work together and get close to each other, why does it give you dreams that you share with each other? You’re connected to Vader, like it or not, because the Force has willed it so. Right now, as he tilts your head back just a bit and licks his tongue against your lip until you grant him entrance, you like it very much.
It’s when he begins to trail his lips down your jaw to the spot behind your ear, when you tangle your fingers in his messy curls, that some semblance of logic returns to you. Not all of it, because your hormones are currently eating up most of your brain cells, but enough that you realize that if you don’t stop this now, it’s not going to stop at all.
You muster all the strength that you can to put your hands on Vader’s chest and push him back from you. He’s the only Sith you’ve ever met, but he is the exact opposite of what you would expect a Sith to be. He doesn’t (usually) renege on his word, and he’s a gentleman that backs off the moment that you start trying to pull away. Those heated golden eyes of his are mired with confusion, and you want to assure him that it’s nothing that he did.
Instead, you say, “We can’t…be doing this.”
“Doing what?” he asks.
“This.” You motion between both of you. Getting to your feet, you summon your lightsaber and clip it onto your belt, using any excuse to not look him in the eyes.
“Why not? I thought you were enjoying it.”
“I was, and that’s the problem.” Only when you feel that you’ve put enough space between you and him do you turn around. “We’re enemies. Enemies don’t kiss; they don’t even meet up in secret!”
A smirk plays on his lips. “Y’know, a wise man once told me that ‘only a Sith deals in absolutes.’”
“Don’t you dare.” You point a shaking finger at him. “I am nothing like you or the Sith, and I never will be.”
It’s bad enough that you’re connected to a Sith in the way that you are. To think about the fact that you could carry traits of the Sith, traits that lie within those who are evil and fallen, is almost too much to bear. Vader must realize this by the way that he puts his hands up like he’s surrendering, showing you that he means no harm by what he said. The damage has been done, however, and you glare at him.
“Besides the fact that we are both betraying the causes we fight for by being here, this is also fundamentally wrong. I mean, a Jedi and a Sith, light and dark. It doesn’t make sense, it doesn’t work! We’ll collide eventually and burn each other out.”
Vader shakes his head. “I don’t believe that.”
“It’s the truth!”
“Screw the truth!” He crosses the room in only a couple of strides thanks to his long legs, grabbing your arms in his hands. Even this action, with so much intensity behind it, manages to be gentle. “The Force has brought us together for a reason. You wouldn’t be here, with me, if you didn’t feel it too.”
“Vader–”
“Anakin,” he interrupts, shaking his head furiously. “Call me Anakin.”
“You told me that that name died on Mustafar.”
Your voice is trembling now, everything becoming too real. This was supposed to be a productive meeting where you would hopefully work together to figure out how to remove whatever bonded you in the Force. Now you’re kissing and fighting like lovers and he’s insisting that you call him a name that nobody else is allowed to use. The air in the room suddenly feels a little too thin, your breath coming out harshly as you try to remember to breathe.
You wrench yourself out of his arms. Though he’s strong enough to overpower you if he wanted to, he lets you go. You stumble backwards and yell, “Stop playing your mind games with me!”
“You think that I don’t feel just as insane as you do? I don’t know what’s worse, that I haven’t killed you or that I don’t want to kill you.”
“That makes two of us, then.” You rub your hand hardly over your face, ridding yourself of any of the angry tears that you can feel building up at the backs of your eyes. “I’ll go with you to Takodana so that we can follow your lead, you just tell me where to be and when. But if this one doesn’t pan out, that’s it.”
Vader can only watch as you turn to go back to your ship. “What do you mean?”
“I mean that I’ll do anything to sever this bond,” you call over your shoulder. “Even if that means I have to kill you.”
When you keep walking and don’t turn back, he calls your name. Your real name, not ‘Rebel.’ You don’t think he’s ever done that before. It makes you stumble in your determined walk, and you look at him with wide eyes. Vader stalks over to you and grabs your arm, pulling you in before he kisses you once more. Your teeth clack against his as your lips angrily meet; this is nothing like the sweet kiss you previously shared, and nor should it be. You’re both mad–at the circumstances that have brought you together, at being on opposite sides and viewpoints, at having feelings that neither of you want to have.
Vader pulls away, taking steps back while still staring at you. You’ve never hated a person so much while also wanting to kiss that same person so much. You wipe the back of your hand against your mouth and walk away again.
“Takodana,” he says. “I’ll let you know when to meet me there. And believe me, I will see you there.”
This is terrible, you think as you fly back to the base you’ve been stationed at for the past month. This is complicated and messy and it’s with arguably the worst person you could be in this sort of a situation with. You want this bond severed, and you repeat that to yourself even as you bring your fingers to your lips while they still tingle from the intensity of Vader’s kisses.
I want this bond severed.
I want this bond severed.
Do I want this bond severed?

Why is Count Dooku's characterization vastly different in The Clone Wars then Attack of the Clones? In AOTC he's all like, "I'm sorry old friend" and "Back down", in TCW he seems to take pleasure in killing Jedi. What happened?
Okay, so I lightly touched on this back in this post where I compare the Dooku we see in the Legends continuity to the Dooku we see in Canon and in this video. George Lucas quotes used as sources can be found at the end.
To start with: there's a dichotomy to Dooku.
On the one hand... he makes good points. His concerns are the same that many Jedi share: the Senate is corrupt, and its representatives are abusing their power for their own selfish needs, sometimes even using Jedi to do so.
On the other hand... Dooku's a Sith. Which means he - like the Senators - is also after power, if not moreso. He's greedy, selfish and ambitious. Sure, he makes good points but he’s part of the problem; he knows it, but he doesn’t care.
More importantly, like Maul and Grievous, the primary purpose of Dooku, as a character, is to show us who Anakin is going to turn into:
An evil, corrupted old man. A prodigal son of the Jedi Order (with closet fascist-leanings) who, in his unquenchable thirst for power, was reduced to being a slave of Darth Sidious.
Tumblr media
One of the big differences between Dooku and Anakin, however, is that Dooku was always more politically savvy.
Count Dooku has a public image.
Tumblr media
He uses his past as a Jedi to cultivate this persona of a wise intellectual, a rational man with fair and just demands, one who fights for the little guy.
He is the head of the Separatist movement, a charismatic figure known throughout the galaxy for his political idealism, even giving lectures at universities.
Tumblr media
But it is just a persona.
I mean, that's probably how he started out, sure, but by the time we see him in Attack of the Clones, Dooku is a Sith Lord, and he's been one for over 10 years, because we know he was going by "Tyranus" while ordering Sifo-Dyas' death and hiring Jango Fett a few months before the invasion of Naboo.
Tumblr media
QUICK NOTE: In Canon, Dooku left the Jedi Order 10 years before Qui-Gon’s death. So chances are, he's actually been a Sith for almost 20 years, as we know he was already a darksider 8 years prior to The Phantom Menace because he tried to recruit Rael Averross at the end of the book Master & Apprentice.
Which means he's pure evil.
Deep down, Dooku's the guy we see in The Clone Wars: Darth Tyranus, a ruthless, sadistic killer whose only goal is to destroy the Jedi Order and bend the galaxy to his will.
But the galaxy can't know this, right? They think he's Count Dooku, a kind-hearted man whose beliefs are controversial but ultimately altruistic. Hell, even the Jedi remember him fondly.
So, like Palpatine, he keeps up the facade.
He does this with Obi-Wan, as he secretly tries to recruit him to overthrow Sidious (who Lucas compares to Vader trying to do with Luke in Empire Strikes Back):
Tumblr media
He does this with the Jedi, calling Mace "old friend", telling him he's sorry he's about to have them executed.
Tumblr media
He plays this charade up to the very end...
Tumblr media
... but when Obi-Wan still won't back down, he is left with no choice but to kill him the fastest way he can: with a lightsaber.
A red-bladed lightsaber, in signature Sith fashion. One he’s been careful to keep a secret.
Tumblr media
But Obi-Wan's seen it, he's seen the Force Lightning... he's been given a peek behind the curtains, so now he has to die.
And you see the change in Dooku’s behavior. He starts to taunt Obi-Wan, he’s grinning, there’s a sadistic glimmer in his eye. For a brief moment, he drops the mask and goes to town.
Tumblr media
Oh and Anakin joins in, whatever the more the merrier. But then Yoda joins in... and Dooku can't beat Yoda. Crap, he's gonna tell everyone.
The secret of him being a Sith Lord is gonna get out...!
But this is Palpatine and Dooku we're talking about. Political geniuses, masters of spin and flipping the story. If the secret got out... who cares?
Seriously, who cares if the Jedi know he’s a Sith, now? The war's already started, Order 66 is right around the corner. He won't even bother pretending he's a good guy, with the Jedi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Him playing the role of the "villain" when facing the Republic also makes it so that the Senate will want to keep the war going until he's captured or dead.
And because they're at war, he can simply wave the fiendish acts the Republic lays at his feet as "slanderous propaganda" in front of the Separatists, they'll just eat it up.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, Dooku being his true, ruthless self when engaging with the Republic also has a second perk: it'll make the Jedi look bad.
'Cause the galaxy doesn't really get what a Sith Lord is, they think it's just some Jedi variant. So that's still a Jedi, right?
As such, Dooku's cruel actions and cruelty then feed into the anti-Jedi conspiracy theories about them "starting the war" and the growing distrust that'll make it so that - when the Jedi are eventually wiped out - the general public will just go "good riddance".
Which was the main goal of the entire Clone War conflict.
TLDR:
The guy we see in most of Attack of the Clones is Count Dooku, political idealist, AKA who he presents himself to be.
The characterization we see at the end of Attack of the Clones, in The Clone Wars and in Revenge of the Sith is that of Darth Tyranus, Sith Lord, AKA his true self.
George Lucas Quotes:
About Dooku’s valid points:
“I wanted a more sophisticated kind of villain. Dooku’s disenchantment with the corruption in the [Republic] is actually valid. It’s all valid. So, Chris plays it as, “Is he really a villain or is he just someone who is disenchanted and trying to make things right?”” - Starlog Magazine #300, 2002
“The confrontation between Obi-Wan and Dooku originally was a confrontation between Padmé and Dooku, and it was a political thing. I decided, after seeing the movie, that I didn’t need that scene with Padmé and Dooku, it was in the wrong part of the picture, and this one, with Obi-Wan, would be more appropriate. It would work better if Dooku would actually tell the truth about what’s going on and then create a situation where nobody believed him. And it also allows you to kinda have some sympathy for Dooku in that he carries the sympathies of most of the Jedi which is that the Senate is corrupt and is incapable of carrying out any meaningful actions because they argue about everything all the time.” - Attack of the Clones, Director’s Commentary, 2002
About the similarities between Anakin and Dooku:
“[In the garage scene, Anakin] sort of lays out his ambition and you’ll see later on his ambition and his dialogue here is the same as Dooku’s. He says “I will become more powerful than every Jedi.” And you’ll hear later on Dooku will say “I have become more powerful than any Jedi.” [...] And Dooku is, kind of, the fallen Jedi who was converted to the Dark Side because the other Sith Lord didn’t have time to start from scratch, and so we can see that that’s where this is going to lead which is that it is possible for a Jedi to be converted. It is possible for a Jedi to want to become more powerful.” - Attack of the Clones, Director’s Commentary, 2002
“I needed to get across the point that Jedi can leave the Order, to set up what happens with Anakin later on. Also, in the end when you realize that Dooku is Darth Tyranus, it explains what Darth Sidious did after Darth Maul was killed: he seduce a Jedi who had become disenchanted with the Republic. He preyed on that disenchantment and converted him to the dark side, which is also a setup for what happens with Anakin.” - Mythmaking: Behind the Scenes of Attack of the Clones, 2002
About Dooku’s true nature:
“If you put two Sith together, they try to get others to join them to get rid of the other Sith. Dooku's ambition here is really to get rid of Darth Sidious. He's trying to get Obi-Wan's assistance in that [...] so that he and Obi-Wan could overthrow Sidious and take over. And it's exactly the same scene as when Darth Vader does it with Luke to try to get rid of Sidious.” - Attack of the Clones, Commentary Track 2, 2002
“In the midst of this turmoil, a separatist movement was formed under the leadership of the charismatic former Jedi Count Dooku. By promising an alternative to the corruption and greed that was rotting the Republic from within, Dooku was able to persuade thousands of star systems to secede from the Republic. Unbeknownst to most of his followers, Dooku was himself a Dark Lord of the Sith, acting in collusion with his master, Darth Sidious, who, over the years, had struck an unholy alliance with the greater forces of commerce and their private droid armies.” - Shatterpoint, Prologue, 2004

I love the Jedi, believe me, I do but what they became near the end is a tragedy. And THIS conversation between Mij and Jusik explains what I've been thinking in very short sentences:
Jusik: "The Masters at the Academy told me that I thought too much and asked too many questions."
Mij: "Well, that's what any secret cabal that doesn't like its authority to be questioned would say."
And
Mij: "Do your old buddies think you're lost to the dark side now?"
Jusik: "Probably. I just wish they'd stop worrying about light and dark, and learn the difference between right and wrong instead."
Anyone can look me in the eyes and say, "The Jedi were good, they were trying to keep the peace," while that's true, it's also a fact that they did some pretty fucked up shit and lost their way. Don't get me started about what they did to Quinlan and tried to have him killed because it was their fault he walked the path of the dark side. How they thought it would be a good idea to fake Obi-Wan's death KNOWING how emotional Anakin was, that he'd feel betrayed. And to me, that is what cemented his future in becoming Darth Vader.
They were wrong on many things, if anything they were their own worst enemy and brought upon their own downfall. Because you're telling me Grand Jedi Master Yoda, a wise and powerful force user, couldn't sense that Palpatine was evil, but he could sense that Qui-Gon's previous apprentice was clouded by the dark side? Okay...

Why Tori Meadows is a sith lord
You know... I was thinking about doing some shitpost “proving” that Tori is unironically a god tier duelist that was paid to hold back for the entirety of Zexal and could actually obliterate any duellist foolish enough to stand in her way.
But the thing is... that’s not really a joke to me. I honestly truly believe Tori would be capable of great viciousness as a duellist if just given the chance. Just look at Duel Links:
Tumblr media
That is a girl who is out for blood, a war machine in the making, a kid who decided to get serious about duelling to the point of being able to “beat everyone in a snap” (the game’s exact words) just out of rage and spite alone. That is iconic and legitimately deserves more attention in the fandom.
So now for my real arguement: I think Tori Meadows is a sith lord.
Tumblr media
Yes, Samuel L. Jackson. This seemingly innocent 13 year old girl is a sith lord, one more powerful than either Darth Sidious or Darth Vader could have ever hoped to be.
Now for people who aren’t familiar with the beloved wonderful six film Star Wars saga, the villains, aka the sith lords, gain power from anger. Fear and anger and hate are a surefire path to fall to the dark side. It’s what did Anakin in and turned him into Darth Vader. Tori in Duel Links fought and destroyed the fools that got in her way with her anger and hate, Astral even confirms this is what gives her power:
Tumblr media
Tori duels with anger, she duels with hatred of Yuma’s sheer stupidity, she uses them all to her advantage but unlike every other sith lord in the series, she isn’t destroyed by them. Only one other has managed to accomplish this feat, the most powerful force user in the galaxy: Luke Skywalker. See, he’s the most powerful force user because as of the final chronological film in the saga, Return of the Jedi, he’s the only one left, so he’s the most powerful by default.
Also, more relevantly, he also defeated Darth Vader in a duel with his anger yet didn’t fall to the dark side, throwing his lightsaber aside and refusing to turn to the dark side even after feeling its power firsthand. Tori has managed to do the same within Duel Links, harnessing her anger to give her strength, to give her focus, so she could hunt down Yuma and once she accomplished her goal, was able to let go of her anger, rather than letting it be her undoing like other foolish siths. Tori has done something no other sith before her has managed to do: went down the exact fear, anger, hate pathway without ending up at the final step: suffering.
Tumblr media
“But wait!” You cry. “How could Tori possibly be a sith lord if she can’t even use the force?!”
Tumblr media
Foolish padawan. A wise sith lord doesn’t reveal their force abilities to the masses, they keep it under wraps until the perfect moment. Palpatine for example. He didn’t use his force abilities to save himself from the Zillo beast in Clone Wars, he kept it secret until perfect moment: the chance to murder four jedi, gain a new apprentice, and take over the entire galaxy.
Tori never had to reveal her abilities because no one was a true threat to her power. Besides, what need would she have to display such abilities in a world where card games seemingly reign supreme? I say seemingly because they do not. The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. It is more powerful than your card games could ever hope to be.
Still not convinced? Take a look at Tori’s eyes compared to Anakin’s dark side eyes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think I’ve said enough to convince you :)
I end this obvious shitpost with a warning: the moment Palpatine decided to reveal his sith abilities was the day he committed genocide and took over the galaxy. The day Tori chooses to reveal herself will likely be an even more universe shattering event...

When it comes to Anakin and Palpatine´s relationship, I think we need to remember who they are narratively speaking to each other and to the story to understand what point George Lucas wanted to tell with them.
Anakin was born to be the chosen one whose main directive is to stop the Sith Grand Plan of a 10,000 years of Sith Empire and inmortality.
Palpatine is the Sith master who was able to successfully take over the galaxy and bring down the Jedi Order, the culmination of thousand of years of Sith masters plans. In fact it was because the Sith were going to win the main reason why the force created Anakin to stop them and they knew this.
Palpatine´s Sith master Darth Plagueis, when he became aware of Anakin´s birth, he was completely terrified of what Anakin could do to their plan and Palpatine always put attention to his old master fears, because he respected his power and his hability in the force. For Dath Plagueis Anakin´s propphecy was a certainty while for Sidious is was a possibility and this made all the difference.
Palpatine treated Anakin as an enemy and his prey from the beggining, he wanted to turn Anakin from possible enemy to his own asset, Palpatine was playing mind games with Anakin since we was 9 to make him lose his mind while presenting himself as a trusted father figure, with only one of them being aware the reason behind this was because Anakin was literally born to destroy his plans, so of course he wasn´t going to fail at making him fall, of course he was going to use any opportunity to break Anakin´s will to turn him. Because they are force fated enemies.
This reality, once Anakin became aware of this, sent him to a panic attack in the ROTS novel, because he realized this man he thought as a father, this man he trusted with his deepest secrets, love and ideals, this loved person was the same man behind the cilvil war, the same person he was fated to kill as the chosen one.
This is why I think their relationship was quite different to the one Dooku and Obi-Wan had, Dooku wanted to turn Obi-Wan because he was Qui-Gon´s apprentice and he missed his padawan, so having Obi-Wan around helped with his sadness and convinced him he was doing right in rebelling, creating a civil war and working with the Sith master.
Dooku didn´t want to destroy, reshape and make his everything Obi-Wan was as a person while Palpatine definitely wanted to do this to Anakin and did for many years even after his fall to the darkside, because he was just plain obssessed with seeing how much more he could get from him, the "force´s chosen one"
It gets even worse when we add Darth Plagueis noevel to the equation, Palpatine had a horrible relationship with his father and when he became a Sith he killed him along with the rest of his family, Palpatine was a deeply lonely person whose main comfort was power, so when he saw child Anakin, he proyected on him, he swore he was going to be the father to Anakin he didn´t have, because Anakin was HIS, because Anakin was LIKE him and he trusted his habilities enough to know that he didn´t need to fear him like his master did, he had plenty of time to make Anakin fall and reshape him into what he wanted for him and his Empire.
So Anakin was Palpatine´s victim/prey/slave/enemy/fated murderer/Son/apprentice all in one to the Emperor which actually explains a lot about their relationship because to Anakin Palpatine was Enemy/Sith Master/Father all in one, the difference is that Anakin, even as Vader, could not bring himself to kill him, he still loved him while Palpatine didn´t understand love the way Anakin did, for him love was possesion, so he possesed Vader.
But as George Lucas said, Vader/Anakin was the Chosen one, as a jedi or as a sith so when Palpatine went agaisn´t Luke´s life, when it became obvious a light side Luke wasn´t going to be allowed by his master, when Luke showed without a doubt how good he was, how compassive, how worthy of being called a Jedi he was, Anakin fulfilled the prophecy, destroying his master and himself because them both were Sith so both needed to be destroyed just as it was fated from the beggining.

it's been months but I'm still totally obsessed by a rexwalker jane eyre AU...
rex is jane, anakin is mr rochester. kinda. it's still the canon universe, just the clone wars went a little differently, and after the war ended the republic didn't fall.
and rex and anakin didn't serve together.
because anakin isn't a jedi, in this universe. padme's ship never landed on tatooine, so qui-gon never found and freed him, so...
so the first time they meet it's when widowed retired racer anakin hires jobless veteran rex as a bodyguard for himself and his kids.
he and the twins live in either a fancy nubian shuttle full of textiles and luxury furniture and gilded interiors, or a fancy house in remote country naboo full of textiles and luxury furniture and gilded interiors, surrounded by miles of empty swampy lakes and woods in all directions.
anakin and the twins live all alone in all this luxury, except for a couple of droids and each other, and it's kind of weird and lonely. but now there's rex!
rex and anakin have an immediate deep and powerful connection and spend a lot of time talking together when rex is in theory meant to be working. despite their apparent differences they just get each other like no one else ever has.
(awkward kids with nerdy common interests? yes. veiled deep and meaningful conversations about their shared trauma? also yes.)
also they spar together, probably. anakin says he just wants to keep in shape now he's given up racing fulltime, which checks out.
but wow, he's fucking strong. and his reflexes are unreal. which rex guesses checks out, for a podracer, but even so, wow...
rex spends a lot of time checking anakin out.
and trying not to notice anakin checking him out.
but also - rex doesn't want to think about how creepy anakin's life is but... it's kind of creepy...
he's out here alone with his young kids and two weird old droids, and rex. it's lonely. rex doesn't think anakin does well when he's lonely.
but surely rex's company is good for him?
rex likes him so much. he's certain anakin likes him too...
...and anakin does like him.
the problem is anakin has secrets too.
this is a jane eyre au!
but it doesn't go the way you think. padme is already dead.
the mad wife in the attic isn't padme - it's palpatine.
the mad parent in the attic responsible for the war and the exploitation of the clones (and also, not incidentally, padme's death.)
also the one who found anakin as a teenage racer on tatooine and trained him as a sith. anakin is darth vader, the apprentice sith who killed a lot of rex's brothers before he faked his death (with padme's help) and fled.
yeah, rex is gonna find anakin's red saber somewhere. it won't go well.
rex can forgive anakin for his own crimes, knowing he was forced to become a sith as a child and eventually left. but he can't forgive anakin for protecting palpatine. not now that rex knows palpatine is responsible for the war and for putting inhibitor chips in his and his brothers' heads.
and anakin knows palpatine ought to have faced justice for his crimes a long time ago... on top of everything else he abused and tortured anakin as part of his training too... but anakin still loves him as the father he never had.
anakin hates him as much as he loves him and he can't let go.
rex leaves him because he can't live with that. he just can't.
but anakin is half crazy with grief and loneliness and fucks up. palpatine escapes.
and when it comes down to palpatine or anakin's children anakin finally chooses right.
eventually rex finds out that palpatine is finally dead and the luxury home is gone. the kids are fine but anakin was badly burned, and probably more limbless than he started, but not fully toasted (if nothing else, because palpatine isn't there to immediately put him in a murder suit!)
but - "reader, he married him."
it's enough.
rex goes back.

Does Reva know that Luke is Vader's son? The part of Bail's message she heard doesn't mention Vader and I can't understand how she could deduce that Luke is Vader's son. But if she doesn't know it then her going after Luke doesn't make much sense. Btw, I love your posts and metas. Thank you for writing them.
I think Reva is smart enough to put two and two together. She was pretty sure Obi-Wan was on Tatooine and they were overlooking him there. She knows that Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan's former apprentice. She knows that Obi-Wan doesn't really want Anakin dead, and probably still loves him. It wouldn't be out of left field for her to know about Anakin and Padme's being an open secret, and that Padme died while very pregnant. When she hears the message from Bail Organa about a boy on Tatooine, under the care of Obi-Wan, the person who loved Anakin Skywalker more than anyone in the world, I feel like it's not a huge leap in logic for Reva to know that the boy being protected was someone connected to Anakin Skywalker, if Obi-Wan was willing to stay and watch him. Do we know for 100% certain that she connected all the dots? No, but I think it's the best explanation for why she would go after some random kid, like, if it was just a random Force-sensitive kid, what would that gain her in her revenge against Anakin Skywalker? Possibly, as a way to lash out at Obi-Wan, whoever the boy was, I guess? Not out of the realm of possibility! But Reva has consistently been shown to be incredibly smart and intuitive about these things, and I think it makes the story resonate more if the reason she went after him was to take something away from Vader, just as he took something away from her.

Star Wars: The Collector
I present to you, one of the silliest things I've written for a Star Wars/Discworld crossover. I hope that it makes people giggle a little.
The collector chuckled as he opened the door.  In this chamber were some of the darkest, foulest things that any sentient could encounter.  A lesser person would have felt disgust at the artifacts that he’d collected.
Years ago, he had been one of the masses.  He watched as the Clone Wars ravaged the galaxy.  The Jedi were presented as shining, sterling heroes.
Then, Palpatine had torn down their altruistic façade.  No, the Jedi had become foul and corrupt, much like the Republic.  The only hope was to expunge both the Jedi and the Republic, so that the healing could begin.
He locked the door behind him.  In the dim room, a crimson pyramid pulsed with scarlet light.  It was the prize of his collection:  A Sith holocron.  To be more specific, it was one of Palpatine’s personal holocrons.
In the wake of Palpatine’s death, there had been chaos.  There were rumors of cloning chambers filled with attempts to cheat death.  Caches of dark knowledge had been ripped open and exposed to the light.  Jedi Master Sam Vimes, along with others of the restructured Jedi Order, had rooted out most of Palpatine’s secrets.
The collector reverently took the holocron from its resting place.  Above the pyramid, Palpatine’s image scowled at him.  That scowl then became a satisfied smirk.
“Ah, you have made the sacrifice,” Palpatine said.  “Was it difficult?  Does it linger within your conscience?”
“No,” the collector said.  “They were weak.  They believed in hope, freedom and justice.”  He snorted.  “They had it coming to them.  I won’t lose any sleep over it.”
The image of Palptine nodded.  “Good.  Good!”  The image leaned close.  “Now, you are ready for your first real lesson in the Dark Side, my apprentice?”
“I am, my lord.”  The collector bowed his head.  “Show me the way to power.”
“The first thing you should know is this:  Never—”
The image of Palpatine flickered for a moment.  Then the image came back, but with new additions:  Darth Vader and some stormtroopers were lined up in the background while Palpatine suddenly had a microphone.
“Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down,” Palpatine sang in his raspy voice.  The expression on the Sith Lord’s face was one of obvious bafflement and confusion.  That same expression as on the would-be apprentice’s face.
In the background, Darth Vader and the stormtroopers kicked in time to the peppy tune.  The would-be apprentice recognized it as a popular Rik Astli song.
Then the holographic Palpatine screamed.  The holocron flared crimson, then white, and the would-be apprentice knew nothing more.
********
Jedi Master Sam Vimes sighed.  It had been one of Those Days where he wished he could stay home with his wife.  Unfortunately, this situation called for his unique talents as a copper and a Jedi Master.
(He had no idea how Vetinari—sorry, Chancellor Vetinari—had found so many survivors of Order 66.  He hadn’t come with death squads or inquisitors.  No, the Sith Lord had offered a general amnesty to the survivors.  The new order was like a soldier being patched up, then set to work as their condition permitted.  Most annoying was that Vetinari had been stern, dangerous, and utterly reasonable to work with.)
“It’s like all the others, Master,” Jedi Carrot Ironfoundersson reported.  He gestured to the vaguely humanoid shadow in the wall.  “People report a wideband scream across multiple frequencies, then an explosion.  Littlebottom believes that the power source was overloaded.”  He pointed to the crystalline scraps that might have been a holocron.
Vimes scowled.  He wanted to light a cigar right now, but that would contaminate the crime scene.  Besides, the victim had hardly been innocent.  Tomes of dark secrets filled the small room, though scorched by recent events.  All the victims had been collectors of Sith artifacts.  People had described the victims as being generally quiet and harmless.
Yes, Officer, Vimes thought darkly.  He was such a quiet man before he committed atrocities that boggled the mind.  It came out of nowhere.
He wondered what Vetinari would think about this whole mess.  It was likely that he already knew who was behind it.
********
Chancellor Vetinari noted Vimes’s report.  He arched his eyebrow a fraction of an inch, nodded, then moved on.
Sith holocrons were known to have security measures to prevent the “unworthy” from accessing certain files.  The late Palpatine had been especially paranoid.  It took the confirmation of an atrocity to open the inner secrets.  Of course, he also modified the holocron to self-destruct, should the situation call for it.
It was somewhat tricky to introduce a virus in all of Palpatine’s holocrons.  The incongruous image of Palpatine singing Rik Astli would have been enough to shock anyone, especially one eager for power.  It was essentially suicide by greed.
Vetinari had no illusions that this measure would eliminate the would-be Sith.  Word would eventually spread, and hopefully, the holocrons would lay dormant or be destroyed.  This would help keep Palpatine dead—not only physically, but in the minds of people who remembered the Clone Wars.
Another Sith Lord would have relished the last moments of his victims.  Vetinari did no such thing; it was a means to an end, a Republic that actually worked.
A note from Drumknott informed him that Darth Vader’s—no, Anakin Skywalker’s—rehabilitation was slow, but steady.  Per Obi-Wan’s request, Anakin would not be introduced to his children until he was mentally fit to handle the revelation.  It was a web of details that he navigated every day.
The office was quiet except for the occasional beep of the terminal.  It was just another day of running the galaxy so that it would hopefully work.
Comments? Questions?
--Doc
(Edit: It's Chancellor Vetinari, not Palpatine. Whoops.)

“Darth Vader is not Satan. He is the guy that goes to the corner store to get Satan’s cigarettes.”
I found this quote by George Lucas to be an interesting take on Anakin’s role. This goes against the image of Vader ingrained in pop culture. He is not the ultimate villain, he is simply the lackey.
He was born a slave turned war hero prophesied to save the galaxy. This places heavy expectations on Anakin’s shoulders. All eyes were on him.
Sure, Anakin keeps making bad decisions after bad decisions out of his own free will. But when you look at the circumstances you realize how little of his decisions were made without outside influence.
He has been told all his life what to do and what not to do. From slaveowners to the Jedi council to Palpatine ordering him to fulfill their orders, restricted and only able to do what he wants in secret behind their backs. Vader was powerful and terrifying to the rest of the galaxy but to Palpatine he was a disposable apprentice.
Being the Chosen One did not bring Anakin/Vader the freedom he desired it painted a large target on his back to be manipulated and pushed into becoming a lapdog. He was this broken pathetic man you keep on a tight leash and direct to do your bidding until they bite back. That was his role in the story.
Anakin may have influenced the course of the galaxy with his actions, but he was ultimately a pawn in the grand scheme of things.

I have a book series rec but also it's just in the form of me reminiscing so like...take that as you will.
Sometimes I just think about 'The Last of the Jedi' series by Jude Watson (connected to her other two series which are pre-cursors 'Jedi Apprentice' and Jedi Quest.) And I just think about Ferus Olin my boy. And I think about how Obi-Wan very briefly left Tatooine to find Ferus and more or less ended up tasking him with finding the remaining Jedi (kinda unspoken but also ya know) and anyways. Ferus, one of the last Jedi survivors who's old and used to train under Master Siri Tachi and went on missions alongside Obi-Wan and Anakin (ya know before he left the order) ends up finding this blue haired kid, Trevor Flume, roaming the streets and basically takes him in and takes care of him (mind you if my memory serves me correctly it was relatively unwilling.) And they stumble upon several people to take on their merry band of misfits (of who I cannot remember rn because it's been like 10+ years since I've read the series so apologies if I'm misremembering.)
But I remember their secret base was this asteroid and Ferus kinda had a run in with crazy evil scientist Jenna Zan Arbor (from back in his day) and also this Grand Sith Inquisitor whose name was Malorum (who died in the same pit Darth Maul fell in on Naboo.) And I remember Ferus was hunting for like...a missing Jedi who they'd heard rumors of still being alive, Fy-Tor-Ana.
And I remember he re-met with Astri Oddo (also from back in the day) and helped her rescue his force sensitive son (because Jenna Xan Arbor was trying to conduct experiments in him for Astri's ex husband Big Divinian) Lune. And I think Astri and Lune started traveling with them I can't remember.
And I also remember him becoming a double agent for the Emperor, temporarily working under Vader because he had no other choice. And also he stumbled across this person 'Flame' who was trying to start a rebellion and worked with Ferus and...
Anyways I'll stop there because spoilers. Though I know this post is one mass spoiler if you've never read the series. But also I recommend it so highly. All of them. And if some of what I said happens to sound a little familiar to you well..
Sometimes I just think about these books and how they shaped my love and adoration for star wars as a kid. And how I own all of them and still need to reread them for nostalgia purposes. But anyways that being said (shade has been thrown if you caught on) read these books because they're so good!

okay but i really really really want a darth vader x reader fic set during the kenobi series...
imagine being both jedi apprentices under obi-wan and you’ve always been sweet on anakin even though he never realized this, having been too distracted with padme to ever notice your feelings. you did a good job of keeping it a secret especially after obi-wan picked up on it and told you it was unwise to have such feelings for a jedi.
anyways skip to years later where anakin is darth vader and on the hunt for not only obi-wan but you too. and you’ve stayed with obi-wan on tatooine, hiding away from the man you once (and still do) loved...and the fic goes through the series (so far at least)
and then of course theres a confrontation between you and vader and him realizing how you felt for him all those years ago....

Hi again
Guess what?
It’s been a whole two years since I published my first fic! That’s a whole two years of creative writing, which is two whole years more than I ever expected. The WIP folder continues to grow alarmingly, but I’m getting used to the ideas breathing down my neck late at night as I try to sleep :)
In this past year, I’ve written another 17 fics for a total of 112,608 words - fewer than last year, although in my defense, I also wrote a dissertation that I will defend... tomorrow (don’t worry, I’m drafting this ahead of time and scheduling it to post), so I’ve been a bit busy! And this doesn’t count my WIPs - there’s a lot of words in those WIPs :)
I’ve branched out a bit: Only 13 Star Wars fics, with 4 Sandman fics and 1 Babylon 5 fic. 6 Star Wars fics involve Thrawn, with the others focused on Andor (2), Original Characters (2), Bo Katan (1), Obi-Wan (1), and the Original Trilogy (1).
In honor of another year of writing, and hopefully having the time for NaNoWriMo this year, here’s a roundup of my fics from this year!
(Last year’s fic roundup can be found here)
Series Additions:
Glimpses of a Better Galaxy gained the promised sequel, And So We Go Marching On, following Bo Katan as she works to rebuild Mandalore following the Clone Wars and the events of Get F***ed, Palps!. Series is up to four parts, with possibly a fifth on the way. Someday.
The Adventures of the Poor Sods Left to Clean Up Rebel!Vader’s Mess is now a two part series, It’s Not Easy Being Evil as the setup for Vader’s defection and the fallout on the Executor and Cool Ranch Vader 2: Electric Boogaloo as the promised continuation! Cool Ranch Vader 2 remains an ongoing collection of one-shots in the universe, although a plot is developing in my outlines...
Samakro’s Bathtub has gained its fourth part, Ar’alani’s Day... Could Have Gone Better, continuing the saga of the captain’s bathtub on the Springhawk (which Samakro continues to insist is his). Gen, all Ace/Aro characters.
Through Darkness now has a third part, which is the longest fic I’ve written yet at 44,586 words! Damned followed my Jedi OC, Kazellis, after Order 66 as she works to pick up the pieces of her life, her Fall, and the Jedi. Follows the events of Darth Vader (2017) Issue #19. A fourth part prequel is in the works.
Thrawn Standalones:
Rebel Tactics: Thrawn and Ezra play chess and talk tactics after the Rebels finale.
An Unfortunate Meeting of Minds: Admiral Thrawn walks into an art gallery run by one Luthen Rael.
A Csannukkah Story: Vurawn and Vurika celebrate the holidays together. A lifetime later, they meet again.
And This Was the Story He Told: Vurika reads Vurawn a story. Returning to the Ascendancy, together they search for the truth in old legends.
Spoilers, C’baoth Dies: In honor of May the Fourth, a drabble (exactly 100 words) with exactly what it says on the tin.
Other Star Wars Standalones:
The Demon from the Stars: Obi-Wan hears a Tusken story and contemplates the past.
The Ghosts of My Enemies Shall Be Their Undoing: a collab with the wonderful @jedihlaalu, Luthen Rael gives his apprentice a Sith holocron with a particularly ornery ghost (Sith OC).
In Another Life: An AU where Mon Mothma never got married and never wanted to, starring Senator Bel Iblis and Bail Organa.
The Bsivi Family: A recounting of a Chiss folktale from the freezing of Csilla.
Sandman Fics:
A Visit From Death: Death comes for Roderick Burgess, and a conversation between siblings.
Forever Shall We Wait: Lucienne waits for the return of her lord as the Dreaming crumbles.
“You’ll never know how lucky you were.”: An AU where Burgess captures Death, just like he wanted. Be careful what you wish for...
Babylon 5 Fics:
Summers: An AU where Talia Winters may not be entirely erased, and Dr. Franklin has a chat with Control. Sequels are, possibly, in the works when I have time to research DID properly.
New WIPs:
Untitled Secret Empire: Post-Rebels, Thrawn seeks to return to the Empire; but events in the Chaos may demand more of his attention than he expects! Actually an older, thought-to-be-abandoned WIP. I should have known better XD Outlined, attempting to draft by mid Ahsoka season 1, hoped to be finished by the end of Ahsoka season 1. We’ll see how that goes!
Untitled Myrkyr Exploration: Post-Rebels, Thrawn and Ezra visit a most curious planet. Outlined, a few scenes written.
The Edge Between Dream and Nightmare: Post-Ascendancy novels, Che’ri’s powers develop in an unexpected direction, which leads her back to an old friend. Mostly drafted, stuck on the ending.
Have You Tried Flying In Circles: Thrawn searches for the perfect planet for his exile, much to the growing frustration of the crew of the Parala. Outlined, first section drafted.
Untitled Locked Tomb: Fallen Order crossover starring Merrin and Cal exploring the tombs of Dathomir. Outlined, first section drafted.
Somehow, Maul Has Returned: Maul dies... but his apprentice needs him. Premise drafted, but not sure where I’m going with it; might just post for others to play with once it’s edited.
Good Soldiers Follow Orders: The events of Clone Wars: Orders through Fox’s eyes. A darker characterization than fandom’s usual. Drafted, needs editing.
Untitled Chiss OC: Backstory for my original Chiss navigator character, and a look at commoner’s life on Csilla. Part 1 drafted, may expand to part 2.
Catch a Tiger (Sandman fic): Delirium is summoned by a less-than-two-penny magician. It goes poorly. Drafted, needs editing.
Up Greens! (Babylon 5 fic): The Drazi remember a time when things didn’t end in fighting, and when once again it comes times to pick sides, they call in their savior. Ivanova did not sign up for this. Drafted, needs editing.
Untitled Mari’s Story (Original Work): Backstory for a D&D NPC and their adventures in a fantasy version of northern Africa during the Islamic Golden Age. Outlined.
Updates On:
The Gambler (Rebel!Thrawn) Part 4: outlined
This’ll Make a Great Story at our Second Wedding (Thranto Ghost Marriage) Part 2: Outlined, one section written.
Sortie (Rebel!Samakro): living in my head rent-free. Still an outline and prologue.
Crotalus and Viperidae (Sith and Jedi OCs): next up once I finish Secret Empire.
Zero Station (Chiss history): well, we hit that part of the D&D game, so I have to write it eventually :)
Rise, Wrath, Ruin (Boudica original work): expanded character list and a few sections written.
