I miss you blockbuster I miss you cds I miss you little buttons that played song previews in walmart I miss you vhs tapes I miss you blocky tv with rabbit ears that only had 10 channels I miss you scratched dvds from the library I miss you envelopes of developed photos from a film camera I miss you flip phones covered in stickers I miss you physical media

#edit for clarification: I do still engage in physical media. i know many of these things are still around today #i still buy cds and vinyl and read paper books from the library and I own a film camera #this is moreso about the culture as a whole shifting to value convenience over experience #listening to cds on my own will not change the culture back to when physical media was the norm for everyone #I’m a nostalgia-ridden person there’s a specific feeling I’m missing that I can’t achieve by myself #g

THE INDIVIDUAL AND SHIFTS IN THE CULTURE: HOW THE HEALER MAY HELP

One topic I deal with as a homeopath and flower essence healer is how changes in the culture can affect the individuals who come to me for help.

One recent example is the shift in the culture of big cities in many U.S. states, especially in affluent states such as Washington and California: Many people or entire families we are surrounded by are on the "Me, Me, Me first" wagon. It is hard to make friends or to preserve friendships if everyone around us is busy growing their egos. Friends may be chronically unavailable, for example, because they are remodeling their luxury homes or hopping the world on constant vacations—and their weekends are for competitions and shows they or their children perform in. The people who are new to an area and would like to find a community or a few real friends, or who have not moved but simply value time with great friends, are always on the losing end in such cultural settings.

The homeopath and flower essence healer will work with the individual who came to him or her from within that cultural setting. The healer will not necessarily advocate for a move or spend their energy changing the city or the culture—being a healer, they are generally not suited to such crusades. The healer may, through flower essences and homeopathic remedies as well as through what they say, help the client to refine their clarity and perspective. The client gets a good grasp on who they are, what their values are, and what their life goals are. As the client becomes stronger, he or she may no longer feel so easily swept by currents in the culture or by actions from people who are not a good influence. The client will start reading text messages and e-mails and assessing actions from the people around them more quickly: For example, they may say, "person A declined my invitation or phone call 9 out of 10 times, I will be moving on, I won't spend my energy in that direction any longer, and I will seek out people who want me in their life and who make the time for me as I make it for them."

I think these conversations would go better if we conceptualized terms like "homophobia", "transphobia", and "misogyny" not as the "basic" oppression that you start with until you sprinkle intersectionality on top, but rather as names for where more complex experiences overlap.

"Transphobia" is not the "base" we start with and build on with other experiences; it's the place where more specific experiences overlap. It's the middle of the venn diagram where "transmisogyny", "transandrophobia", and "exorsexism"/"nbphobia" all overlap with each other.

It's the thing we all have in common; not the thing that some people get extra special versions of while others do not.

#like i think there's a place for virtually any kind of more specific label #even differentiating the experiences of white people with misogyny for example-#not because there is any kind of white oppression. but because misogyny is shared between everyone experiencing it but there is no 'default #implying that white experiences are the default is weird!! and it could in fact open up room for conversations abt other experiences #to frame them as equally a part of the conversation about misogyny #rather than something fringe and niche that is only relevant sometimes #THAT SAID under the current cultural understanding that'd be a dangerous place to start this kind of shift in language use #but like. understanding this on a fundamental level does make conversations about things like transandrophobia waaay easier y'know?#it's not about whether we're More Oppressed it's just about naming different experiences

anti-queer laws are popping up everywhere, fascism is on the rise in every country around me, including my own which is famous for the atrocities of its past that happened not even 100 years ago and only got this far bc no one thought he'd get through with it

a pandemic that WASNT defeated and is STILL around and endangering everyone yet nigh everyone acts like its a thing of the past

i didnt know about the details of whats happening to palestine until a few days ago either but now, on top of everything, i feel like im losing it, what even is happening, how am i supposed to just .. go on with my daily life while all of that is going on, not losing your faith into humanity has become a real challenge over these last few years even tho i know its vital to keep it alive bc the pit of thinking its all lost anyway is deep and only makes things worse for everyone
