The tale of this noblewoman is nothing short of a pitiful one.
Though born into a lineage of high prestige, her family's former glory had withered away, drained dry by the toils of generations past. Yet, the count and countess, bound by love and tenderness, still showered their daughter with affection, sparing no effort to ensure her well-being.
The noblewoman yearned for this fleeting happiness to linger, but destiny rarely extends its benevolent hand for long. On her eleventh birthday, her mother, weary from the ceaseless burdens of the household, succumbed to a devastating illness and became bedridden. In a desperate gambit to procure funds for the cure to his wife's illness, the count embarked on treacherous voyages to distant shores, seeking business opportunities in the coastal realms.
But alas, the wheel of misfortune turned relentlessly. On her fourteenth birthday, while returning home with promises of a prosperous business deal, the count met his untimely end in a harrowing carriage accident.
As the sole heir to the county, she was burdened with the weight of the title, a mantle too heavy for an adolescent to bear. She undertook the grim task of orchestrating her father's funeral. During the somber ceremony, a peculiar party of visitors arrived, their countenance unsettling, teeth like razors and stature unnaturally tall. She soon learned these were the Leech family, the very traders her father had forged deals with.
They dangled an irresistible proposition before her, one she could not refuse; in exchange for becoming the betrothed of the eldest Leech son, her mother's well-being would be safeguarded, and the finest remedies would be at her disposal.
Thus, the noblewoman, too foolish and naive, chose to secure her mother's future. Their union was sealed when she reached the age of eighteen. Yet, not even a year passed before a sinister illness overcame her, her constitution ravaged by a poison slowly administered by her own husband.
The Leech family, though incredibly wealthy and influential, had always hungered for the societal standing that had long eluded them. The noblewoman, unknowingly, was their golden ladder to ascend into aristocracy, for deceiving the aristocratic circles into believing she was sickly, much like her mother, proved a simple task.
And so, the noblewoman passed away pitifully, her title passed into the hands of her husband, and her mother soon followed her beloved daughter.
of all the characters you could've have reincarnated as, you had the worst luck of all when you woke up as Floyd's late wife
heck, Floyd wasn't even the main character of the novel, it was some businessman that grew up to be greedy and cruel, but had to learn how to love again after meeting the heroine
his late wife was just briefly mentioned for a paragraph about how the leech family, basically the mafia from "fathoms below", started gaining more influence and helped the businessman with his schemes
though Floyd and his twin brother jade did gain a large fanbase, they were a pretty striking duo and when did red flags ever stop fans from simping
you yourself were a huge fan of the twins, but even you didn't instantly recognize you became Floyd's late wife
it was only when you were grieving with your mother about the passing of your caring father and the leech family showed up at the funeral
the striking teal hair, mismatched eyes, and carefree grin stood out almost immediately
Mr. Leech, an formidable figure, cast a shadow of authority as he shattered the oppressive silence that had draped itself over the elegant garden. His voice, deep and resonant, possessed a commanding quality as he addressed you. "My condolences for your loss, my dear. Your father and I were business partners... He spoke very highly of you."
With a sense of poised grace, you offered a nod at his words. "Thank you, Mr. Leech. It is an honor to have made the acquaintance of your family, even under these less-than-fortunate circumstances."
Jade, his sharp and composed eyes keenly focused on you, joined the conversation. "I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm Jade," he offered his hand in greeting.
You shook his hand, your voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Jade."
In stark contrast, Floyd, exuding an aura of indifference. Mr. Leech took it upon himself to introduce him, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. "And this is Floyd, my eldest son."
You extended a polite greeting to Floyd, your tone warm and inviting as you curtseyed. "Hello, Floyd. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Floyd, maintaining his stoic demeanor, made a "hmph" sound before turning away, his demeanor aloof.
Sensing the tension and his apparent disinterest, you scrambled for a way to interest him. "Oh uhm, you must be tired from your journey. Would you care for some refreshments? We have some pastries prepared, if you'd like."
He turns back to you, a glint of interest flickering in his curious eyes. "Hmmm... Alright, why don'tcha show me what you've got prepared, Shrimpy?" He responds, the edges of his lips curling upward.
thankfully, the funeral came to a close peacefully, and Floyd seemingly got along with you
from then you awaited the offer letter from Mr Leech to arrive
you remembered that Floyd, though easily bored, could be really dedicated to something if he wanted to
so what better way to survive, than to make Floyd like you?? only then will your mom get the medicine she needs, and you'll survive without struggling in poverty
worse case scenario, he gets bored of you when you're older and you'll just divorce
and if he's the one asking for the divorce, he can't really make you pay compensation for the past medical fees
so, you decided to accept the proposal nonetheless
but not without precautions!! you started studying intensely on all sorts of poisons and antidotes, just in case Floyd randomly gets bored and tries to unalive you
though if he wanted to end your life with brute force, you knew you wouldn't stand a chance against him
as fiancés, there's not much improvement in your relationship
sometimes he's bored and finds hanging out with you a chore, other times he's following you around like a curious puppy, and there are also moments where he pranks you to see your reactions
you've tried becoming closer to him by getting him cool shoes and playing instruments, but he's far too aloof for you to know if he likes you or not
but thankfully, your mother's complection has improved a lot, and it does look like she's recovering
and once you're both officially adults and married, you start attending public events with floyd to establish your connections
or more accurately, for the leech family to establish connections with aristocracy
this time, it was a tea party held by some business competitors of the leech family
The elegant garden was a tranquil haven for the tea party, the soft murmur of leaves rustling in the gentle breeze providing a soothing background to the clink of fine china and hushed conversations. You, Floyd, and the other aristocratic adolescents settled around a beautifully adorned table, the porcelain teacups and dainty pastries tempting you all.
Floyd lifted the delicate teacup to his lips as he rolled his eyes, having grown weary of the incessant chatter and polite pleasantries that surrounded him. Just as he was about to take a sip, you noticed a faint, unusual scent wafting from his cup, a scent that sent a chilling realization down your spine.
With lightning-quick reflexes, you reached out and pressed your hand against Floyd's, preventing him from taking that fateful sip. "Wait, Floyd, don't," you whispered urgently.
Startled, Floyd's gaze darted to your eyes, confusion etched across his face. "What's wrong, Shrimpy?" he asked, taken aback by your trembling hands.
You carefully take out the silver hairpin gifted to you by Mr Leech from your hair, murmuring, "Please explain this to father-in-law later..." Carefully, you submerged the hairpin into Floyd's cup, and both of you watched in horror as the pearly hairpin rapidly transformed into a sinister shade of black.
His eyes widened as he looked down at the poisoned tea, realizing the danger he had been unknowingly on the brink of. Anger simmered beneath the surface, his emotions stirred by the audacity of someone attempting harm. Swiftly, he plucked the hairpin from the cup, using his handkerchief to conceal the incriminating evidence before the guests could catch on.
"I'm bored," His voice carried throughout the venue, capturing the attention of the other guests. "Let's get out of here." He said as he pulled you up from your seat with a firm yet gentle gesture, placing an arm around your shoulder as he guided you away from the tea party.
Once you were far from prying eyes, he pulled you close, wrapping you in a protective embrace. His large hand moved soothingly over your back, attempting to calm your trembling form.
"Thanks, Shrimpy. I owe ya one" he whispered into your hair. After a brief moment, he pulled back slightly, his intense gaze fixed on your eyes. "But how'd ya know my tea was messed with?"
Anxiety seized your body at the question, the weight of your response holding immense consequences. If you answered wrongly, Floyd might suspect your intentions. In a panic, you blurted out the first thing that came to mind.
"I wanted to protect you!"
Floyd blinked. "Protect... me?"
"Yes!" You affirmed. "I thought maybe there would be attempts on your life since your family's incredibly influential, and I wanted to be able to protect you..." You murmured the last bit, praying that you were making sense.
With an expression of genuine astonishment, Floyd stared at you, unblinking. It was clear that your explanation had taken him by surprise, the notion of your dedication leaving him momentarily speechless.
"You... you went through such lengths... to protect me?" Floyd finally managed to utter, a hint of incredulity in his voice. A glimmer of warmth crept into his eyes as he studied your face, taking in the sincerity in your actions.
Before you could conjure up an answer, his grip on your shoulder tightened, drawing you closer to him. "You're really something else, Shrimpy," he murmured, a faint smile playing at the corners of his lips. "Hahaha! I wouldn't mind having you around!"
needless to say, floyd started following you around even more now
it seems this event really helped you gain his trust and affection
soon after the party, he gifted you a new hairpin, with "pearls he found himself" he says
he starts getting jealous when you spend more time studying poisons with jade but if you say you're doing it because you want to protect him he melts again
looks like you're not losing your life anytime soon, but i also don't think that eel is letting go of you ever

Aur naur requests are open!
Can I request Vil,Leona and Azul (separate) with a fem!reader s/o reading a horror novel and they ask what she's reading and she explains in great detail the terrifying disturbing things in the novel. I'm reading the novel Misery and I'd recommend it. It's a great horror novel!
SUMMARY: Their S/O describes something morbid from a book they're reading.
WARNINGS: Death (Azul, Vil.) Torture (Vil.) and Murder (Azul.)
COMMENTS: i pulled out my own horror novels for this (and some really freaky history shit. i'm going to talk about the bloody countess btw)
ALSO IF YOU CATCH WHAT IM REFERENCING IN LEONA'S I LOVE YOU
i took vil's in a different direction because i was inspired so yeah
Tumblr media
When Leona asked you what you were reading, he didn’t expect you to absolutely light up. You scoot close to him and place the book on his thigh, and Leona decides to humor you even if he was trying to nap.
“One of the characters is running for their life right now.” you say, giggling like it’s the funniest thing in the world, “There’s this creature that he’s hallucinating due to a goopy thing that got injected into him on a bridge—no I’m not going to explain so don’t ask—and it leaves goopy footprints everywhere. It goes from just standing there to running after him and when he looks back there are handprints on the ground too. It’s so creepy to think of something bounding after him that he can’t even see!”
Leona pauses to soak in the information you just dumped on him before groaning. If that’s what you’re into, he’s not going to judge. Just as long as you stop giggling so he can sleep.
Tumblr media
When Azul asks you what you’re reading, it’s a simple attempt at small talk. He rests his arm on the booth you’re sitting at and leans over your shoulder, curious.
“This is a good part,” you beam, scooting over in the booth so he can sit down, “This guy just got killed and his corpse is all bloated. It’s like water has been forced under his skin and filled up his lungs as he gargled for mercy...his mouth is still open and everything too, and it's like his jaw has been stretched by all his screaming. His limbs are all twisted up and his eyes are rolled back and oh, don’t worry about it!! He was shitty and I hated him. He deserved it!”
Azul blinks, slowly processing everything you just told him. Ah, so that’s what you like to read. Very interesting, however morbid it may be. Perhaps you should talk to Jade, no? He would find this just as fascinating as you.
Tumblr media
When Vil asks you what you’re reading, he does it as a way to start a conversation with you. You seem very intrigued by what you’re reading, scribbling down notes on a separate sheet of paper.
“It’s a biography on the Queen of Hearts.” you explain, not looking up from your paper, “I read a lot of novels about women who killed back in my world, so I wanted to compare her to them since she executed her citizens without much consideration for their lives. See, the Bloody Countess is one of the more notable ones, torturing her servant girls by pouring honey on their bodies and letting bugs bite them in the spring. In the winter, she would pour cold water on their bodies and watch them freeze. She would also jam sharp objects under their nails and—”
Vil nods along to what you’re saying, intrigued by your train of thought. He obviously isn’t aware of what your world holds, so hearing about it in relation to his world is fascinating.

I'm absolutely losing it over at that Vil Sequel for Reincarnated. So I gotta ask for a sequel for Azul.
Where maybe in true manwha drama fashion the reader announces the annulment of her marriage to stick it to her fiance. And surprise, surprise Azul asks to marry them. All in front of the crowd. Double the embarrassment for the fiance.
Gotta stick it to the cheating fiance and his lovers family.
Tumblr media
"If you are a villain, then let me be your accomplice"
feat: Azul
genre: sweet revenge
note: sequel to “being reincarnated into a new world as the bad guy”, roughly 1.3k word count, original characters were used

this became more of revenge fic featuring Azul and the twins because yay comeuppances!
Tumblr media
You’ve come to realize that you are not a patient person. You were also not one to enjoy the nervous and tense looks the attendees are sending your way as you are being berated at the impromptu ball that your betrothed is hosting.
“You are an insult to nobility!” your fiance screamed as he held the baron’s daughter close to him. “To bully an innocent woman, have you no shame?”
Your eyebrow twitched at his wording. Innocent? How is a woman who chases an engaged man even considered that? And as if either of them know shame.
Thankfully the years of etiquette training drilled into this reincarnated body of yours knew how to fake a smile as the host continues to list these supposed cases of bullying.
“How could you push this sweet woman down and attack her like some brute?”
Ah, the opening you were waiting for. “Hmm? And when did I do that?”
“You still pretend to be innocent?” the male lead was seething which honestly amuses you. “Lady Neavah told me about your crimes!”
“I didn’t want to upset you, but yes” the baron’s daughter spoke through her glistening tears “On the day of Countess Charlotte’s tea party, s-she poured tea on me and pushed me down”
You glanced towards the trio you grew fond of and saw that they were not happy with the situation. While calm on the outside, you could faintly see the strained hold Jade had on his brother’s shoulder as Floyd looked ready to wring your fiance’s neck (not that you disapprove). Azul was harder to read as his hat cast a shadow over his eyes but his clenched fists hinted at his contempt. You let yourself smile at their form of concern for you but you suppose you let the two air-headed protagonists set themselves well enough for humiliation.
The heroine made a big show as she cried in your betrothed’s arms. The crowd was getting restless and whispers filled the room. That scene was meant to happen if you were to follow the original story and you would be stuttering and crying right now as well.
That is if you were to follow the original story.
“I wasn’t there, though”
“Y-Yes, you were” Neavah tried to maintain her story “You were invited as was I”
“True, I was invited. But I didn’t go” you cleared up the misinformation. “I chose to visit the Archduchess with our other acquaintances to present a gift for her future child”
The whispers grew louder at the news. To be so friendly with the Archduke family is a privilege very few could do.
“If you like, you could call upon the Archduchess to verify my attendance” you smirked when the two accusers flinched. The Archduchess is terrifying and is not one to get involved in petty scandals such as this. To call upon her is to embarrass oneself in front of the most powerful family second only to the kingdom’s ruler.
“Since you mention the topic of shame, shall I ask if you two have any”
“W-What do you mean?”
“Regardless of status or power, having an affair is considered quite distasteful, is it not?” you eyed your fiance’s arm around the baron’s daughter with a look of exhaustive annoyance. “Your relationship with Lady Neavah is quite disrespectful to me as your fiance”
“W-We’ve done nothing wrong” your fiance yelled in defense which is starting to irk you. “The lady and I are simply colleagues”
“Colleagues do not go off to eat together late at night nor do they secretly meet each other in private rooms” you snapped your fingers which called for the servants whom you ordered to hold onto the documents you brought. At your command, they handed out to the attendees of the ball “the logs of your frequent visits and patronage at these locations were recorded with a guest and typically at night when I’m at home”
Gasps and scoffs echoed throughout the ballroom as the attendees read through the logs and records of their rendezvous. You revel at the control you have on the room as your most hated characters flounder over their dirty little secret being released.
As a last ditch effort, the heroine reached out to you which you pulled back with disgust.
“Please understand,” she cried in an attempt to look sympathetic. “We are in love. We couldn’t stop from loving who we want”
You sneered at the pathetic excuse. “That “love” is not an excuse for infidelity or betrayal. You two chose to be selfish and ignore those that you hurt because it felt good to you.”
Though you held no feelings for the male lead, the previous owner of your body did. Even if you couldn’t relate to her, no one should be betrayed like this.
“Still, I’ll give you what you want. I'm annulling my engagement” you spoke with anticipated glee. With a bow for etiquette purposes only, you gave your last words to the couple “I will take my leave now”
With that, you turned to make your way to the entrance of the house. The audience parted the way for you as you confidently took each step towards your freedom.
Just then, a gloved hand came into your vision. You looked to see Azul with a satisfied grin on his lips. The gossiping crowd spoke in hushed whispers as they couldn’t believe the richest count in the kingdom was offering his hand to you.
“First, the Archduchess and now, even the Golden Count?”
“May you grant me the honor of escorting you?”
Your smile matched your business partner as you gently placed your hand on his “I accept, dear count.”
Jade and Floyd followed suit with grins on their face. Floyd had his fun snickering at the disgraced couple as the crowd looked at them with disgust in their eyes while Jade held his tongue but was happy to see that the patron logs you requested him to find were useful to you as now you owe him a favour. Ah, he meant he was happy he could help.
Before you stepped out, you recognized two familiar faces in the crowd. You saw your parents who were slack-jawed and flabbergasted at all that transpired. When they locked eyes with you, you could see the anger in their eyes. But the anger was directed towards you and not your cheating fiance.
You let out a disappointed sigh. What did you expect?
Before they could reach for you, Floyd came to your aid as he stood between you and your parents. The teal-haired man was intimidating as he stared down at your family, causing them to flinch and step back.
“Mother. Father” you called out to them. “I won’t be returning home. Don’t worry. I know my place”
After all, they were the ones that repeatedly told you that they would disown you should your engagement be broken. To the point, they wrote it in a contract as they didn’t want to deal with their useless child.
The contract which you just pulled out and waved it in their faces as you smiled one last time at them before continuing your walk to Azul’s carriage.
“What do you intend to do now?” Azul questioned with an even tone but you saw the way he fingers shook as he held nervousness over your answer.
You told Azul about your speculations on your impending annulment which was the reason you reached out to him. Now, you were quite well-off with the sum of your earnings and you have a number of supportive friends in the high social circle that you were well protected. There was no reason he could think of that you entice you to continue your companionship with him other than business relations. He has grown too fond of you to go back to how things were.
Fortunately, you ease his worries as you tightened your hold on the fair-haired man’s hand which won you a flinch and a slight flush in his cheeks, putting a genuine smile on your lips.
“I supposed I’ll just do whatever I please”
You lay your head onto the bespectacled man’s shoulder which deepen the red hue of his cheeks. You smiled as Jade and Floyd proceed to tease their old friend over his reddened complexion, thinking to yourself about the choices you made and the path you chose.
You certainly prefer this ending for yourself. And you plan of staying on this happy ending route with Azul by your side.

Shall we look at the moon, my little loon
Tumblr media
Warnings: mentions of sex, SB bringing home ladies, reader is still pretty young in this part, HL having to educate his sister on what cheating is 🙃, Soldier Boy continues to mentally scar his children lol, mentions of infidelity/cheating
Words: 1314
Summary: While Soldier Boy entertains ladies in his bedroom, Homelander shields you from their moans and takes you outside to look at the night sky.
btw, happy new year guys! :)
🌸Did you get enough love my little dove 🌸Well you do enough talk my little hawk
Tumblr media
When Homelander started hearing the moaning coming from the other side of his bedroom wall, he immediately swings his feet out from under his blankets and bolts out of his bedroom and over to your room. Within the next few minutes Homelander knew that the moaning and other noise will just get louder and louder. He had a short amount of time to get you out.
Over his arm is hung a bulky pair of headphones and a warm blanket.
You stir when you hear your door open, lifting your sleepy head up from the pillow. "What're you doing?"
"Dad has one of his. . . lady friends over. So you know what that means."
All sleep evaporated from you when you register what this entails. "We're gonna go visit the stars!"
He has to stop you in your excitement from running out of your room. "Hold on. Slippers and coat." Homelander forces you back around after he puts the headphones over your small ears.
You follow him out, unaware of the sound of skin smacking against skin that made Homelander's eartips redden from sheer embarrassment. Children shouldn't have to hear that. And damn his enhanced hearing that picked up every sharp note and shrill moan.
Outside was cast in a dark blue tint with just the moon and stars as the only light source. That was one of the good things about living further from most other neighbors. Less light pollution.
The woods in the back of your house was your playground. Countless hours spent out there with Homelander, living in your imagination and being just kids for once instead of weapons of mass destruction. You were free out there. The two of you could be whoever you wanted to. Vogelbaum, Edgar, not even Soldier Boy could follow you out there. Towering trees and scattering bushes was your sanctuary.
In the heart of it stood the little wooden shed you and Homelander had built as a type of playhouse. That was where you stored things that Soldier Boy would otherwise deem as nerd shit or something only pussies would do. Which you never understood what he meant by that and Homelander was never privy to tell you. You didn't need the same mentality that Soldier Boy had. Homelander wanted you to have an open mind. To not become a jaded person like their father.
There were folded blankets stacked off to the side for when you and Homelander have picnics or star gazing nights like this. Hidden between two blankets was the dismantled telescope Homelander had smuggled in as well as a few books on astronomy.
Homelander easily locates the bulky flashlight that they used to read their books late at night. While he's grabbing the books, you gather the blankets and telescope.
Shuffling out with arms full, you ask "Do boyfriend-girlfriends usually have lady friends?"
He frowns, really not wanting to answer. "What are you talking about?"
"Well" you smartly start, as if you knew all about the adult world "Dad is boyfriend-girlfriend with Crimson Countess, right? But then he has over his lady friends. And they make the same noise Crimson Countess ma-"
"Okay, okay. I get it." Hurriedly cutting you off, Homelander decides right there was a good enough spot to settle down in as he drops his books. He doesn't want to look at you as he fidgets around; pulling the telescope from the safety between the blankets. "No. Usually couples only see one another. No one else. It's called cheating when someone isn't loyal to their partner."
A soft breeze rustles the leaves around Homelander's ankles, startling him for a moment. You're seated on the blanket with another wrapped around your body to offer you warmth and watch him. "So dad is cheating on Countess?"
Damn Soldier Boy for making Homelander have to tell you these things that you shouldn't know about. With a meticulous touch, he connects the telescope's sleek metal components, each piece fitting together like a perfect puzzle.
After extending the tripod, Homelander bashfully nods. "Yeah. He cheats on her. . ."
You're quiet, ruminating over what this meant which your brother is grateful for. He hated ruining the tint of your rose colored glasses. If Homelander had it his way, you would always stay sweet and innocent with no bad thoughts in your head.
Adjusting the focus on the eyepiece, Homelander tests it out on the starry spectacle above. "It's all set. Here, look. I think I see the sagittarius constellation. Or. . . maybe its scorpius. . ." He balances the flashlight in the crook of his arm to reference the book he held with his hand.
"Is cheating normal?" Sounding so small in that moment, he turns his attention over to you. Your little brows were scrunched together. Disney princess movies definitely didn't involve this. The prince always got with the princess in the end. They never divulged what happened after the movie was done. Did Prince Charming actually cheat on Cinderella after that beautiful ending?
Firm hands land on your shoulders and looks you square in the eyes, holding it with sincerity. "If a guy ever cheats on you I want you to laser his face off. You want someone who'll be utterly devoted to you."
"Oh, so someone like you?" You instantly come to that conclusion with a bubbly smile. He was the only person to ever display such characteristics in your life. Soldier Boy tend to leave you and Homelander to your own devices many days of the week. In the morning sometimes there'd be signs that he hadn't come home at all. Homelander was all you had.
He wants to agree with you, wants to tell you that you should just stay by his side for the rest of your life. That was his ultimate dream. For the two of you to always be together.
There were always moments in his day when Homelander would be looking at you, the apple of his eye, and remember that once you grow up you may decide that it was time to part from your older brother. Get out from under his protective wing to explore what the world had to offer by yourself.
A day where you would no longer need him.
Out there by yourself there was potential for harm to befall you. Not physical harm, he doubts you'd let anyone lay a hand on you. Emotional harm was what worried Homelander most. If a guy were to break her heart, he'd pulverize them without question.
You were like his bright moon among a never ending void of darkness.
"Yeah. Someone like me." Homelander finally replies, hoping his melancholy didn't surface to his face.
Looking through the telescope, you marvel at the shimmering lights of the stars that hung over you. "Some day I want to try flying all the way up there." Your breath comes out in a small white puff from the cold.
That was something you always said. "I know you will."
Pulling away from the telescope, you have a hopeful smile lighting up your face. "And you'll be there with me, right? I don't want to do it alone."
Before he could reply, a haunting melody emerged—a distant echo that had you forgetting about the telescope and running to Homelander's side.
"What is that?" you whisper into his arm.
Homelander had heard the call before though and simply chuckles at your cute reaction. "That's from a loon."
"A loon?"
"It's a type of bird that sometimes likes to come out at night." Homelander motions for you to be quiet so you could hear the mournful symphony as another loon adds it's voice somewhere in the distance. Each call was a lyrical punctuation.
He lets you marvel in it before the calls died down, returning the forest once more to a still quiet.
I'd go to the moon with you, my little loon.

Nadia had heard tell of Saima and the stories they told, praises of them having been sung far and wide across the nations. Some of her sisters had heard their tales when they stopped by her home nation of Prakra and told Nadia just how captivating of a person they were and she absolutely needed to see for herself, sending for them and inviting them to stay as her personal guest in the palace of the city-state of Vesuvia. Her sisters had told her not only were they skilled at storytelling but also quite gifted in more intimate venues and that interested her greatly.
As they arrived at the palace, Nadia stepped out to greet them, dressed to the nines in a long white gown and adorned with various precious gems or metals be they pearls, Jade, or just gold. She was meaning to make an impeccable first impression as the countess of Vesuvia on them, smiling gently as the carriage door opened. “Saima, very punctual arrival, I must say I’m impressed. I’m pleased to meet you, my sisters have told me nothing but amazing things about you and your time with them.”

Why tf does NRS act like these two queens can't coexist on the base roster?
These two on base roster would've been amazing.

Before Mk1 was released, I thought we were gonna see Jade in the royals trailer. Since we knew (from beta, Kitana's intro with liu kang), Jade's new role is Countess. I think it would've made sense to see Jade, but no, I was delusional and getting my hopes up.

Li Mei seems to be unusually adept at identifying relationships and crushes (she's shown to know about Mileena and Tanya, as well as Raiden's crush on Kitana, in intro dialogue), so imagine the comedic potential in her realizing that Kitana is dating Jade and waiting for Sindel to do the same so she could say something along the lines of "Well, Empress, it looks like both your kids take after you."
Yes, I can't disagree that Li Mei has a knack for discovering the love interests around her lol. With all this mystery between Geras and Liu Kang about this new rapprochement between Kitana and Jade, and the way Sindel spoke of Jade as a "new acquaintance of Kitana" left me quite intrigued.
I think Sindel didn't just ask to ensure her daughter's safety, but also because she wanted to know what kind of relationship Kitana had with Jade, since Mileena is already dating Tanya.
So I think Li Mei would realize that Kitana and Jade are perhaps not only friends, but are also developing a stronger feeling for each other, as in the dialogues it is said that Jade will be crucial to General Kitana's future. And I'm not going to lie, I would really like Kitana and Jade to become a couple, they look SO good together!
For me, Li Mei would definitely say this to Sindel, because the truth is, Mileena and Kitana are in some way similar to Sindel.
In fact, it was Sindel who raised her daughters, and what Sindel potentially refused to experience, her daughters will achieve, because Sindel always taught them and always wanted them to achieve, it is true happiness and a love that makes them happy.
One of the things I would most like to see in this new timeline is a romance between General Kitana and Countess Jade.😏
NRS DO SOMETHING TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

Book recs: fairies
Fey, fae, fairies, faeries - pick your spelling, the fair folk are an undeniably popular trope in fantasy, and can be portrayed in wildly different ways, from cute pixies, to terrifying creatures of lore, to handsome and romantic beings of fairy tales. This list is a wild mix, all of them featuring fae or fae-like beings as central characters.

For more details on the books, continue under the readmore. Titles marked with * are my personal favorites. And as always, feel free to share your own recs in the notes!

Borderline (The Arcadia Project trilogy) by Mishell Baker*
Urban fantasy mystery. A year after a failed suicide attempt that cost her both her legs and her film-making career, Millie is recruited by a secretive organisation that works to control traffic to and from Arcadia, the land of faries, and given the assignment of tracking down a missing nobleman of the Seelie Court in Hollywood. Bisexual main character, excellent if you like me enjoy reading about deeply messy women.
Phaeton by Rachel Sharp*
Jack and Rosie, couple and hackers, just got their hands on a brand new device: the phaeton, a phone which, despite its crappy parts, is seemingly capable of doing the impossible. Utilizing their skills, they quickly realize it works not through technology, but by being remotely controlled by a living creature - a fae. This revelation throws them into a war between the fae of old and a new type of fae, able to withstand iron and looking to exploit their fellows through this advantage.
Rosemary and Rue (October Daye series) by Seanan Mcguire
Urban fantasy mystery. October "Toby" Daye is a changeling, half human and half fae, who, after having been burned by both sides of her heritage, has retreated to a "normal" life, away from the faerie world. But the murder of Countess Evening Winterrose pulls Toby back in, a curse forcing her to take on the mystery and find the murderer. While I found the first book a bit weak, the series does get better from there on, with engaging characters and interesting mysteries.

Knife (Faerie Rebels trilogy) by R.J. Anderson
Young adult. Young Knife is a Hunter, providing for a group of faeries living inside an oak, their population slowly dying. Long ago, their people lost almost all their magic, and without it they are doomed. But Knife isn't one to give up; recruiting the help of Paul, a human boy living nearby the faery oak, she is set on discovering the secret of - and solution to - her people's missing magic.
Among Others by Jo Walton
Magical realism. Growing up with a half-crazed mother, Morwenna found solace in two places: reading science fiction novels, and playing with the spirits of Wales alongside her twin sister. But after their mother tried to twist the spirits to her own whims with deadly consequences, Mori is sent off alone to private school, where she attempts to come to terms with what happened. This is less "teen girl on big adventure" and more "what happens after the trauma of adventure", with it being partly left up to the reader whether the fantastical elements are read as real or not.
Gossamer Axe by Gael Baudino
Centuries ago in Ireland, Chairiste Ní Cummen was trained in the secrets of music and magic. But her pride was her downfall, trapping her and her lover in the land of the Sidh. Only Chairiste escaped, hoping to one day win her lover's freedom in musical battle with the fairy that holds her captive. Now she is Christa Cruitare, harp teacher in the modern world and all but resigned to her loss. Until she comes across a great new music: heavy metal. Taking one last chance to win her lover's freedom, Christa sets out to gather other skilled musicians and bring them with her in her final battle.

In the Jaded Grove by Anela Deen
After years of war, pixie soldier Simith is tired of bloodshed and secretly sets up a meeting to discuss peace. But he’s betrayed and forced on the run - right through a door to another world. Meanwhile, Jessa is on her way home when she encounters a man about to be killed, and intervenes to save his life. With that simple act, the fate of the two - and that of the war - become interlinked. While I found the general execution of this one a bit weak, the concept and characters are interesting, and it’s a fun take on the portal fantasy genre.
Under the Pendulum Sun by Jeannette Ng
Catherine Helstone's brother Laon has traveled to Arcadia, the dangerous land of the Fae, and has since lost contact with her. Worried sick and desperate for news, Catherine embarks on the perilous journey herself, but on arrival she fins herself isolated and in danger of the Queen of the Fae, who is hard on her brother's heel.
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett*
Historical fantasy. Emily Wilde is a professor who prefers the company of faeries, dangerous but bound to rules she can understand, to that of humans, who she finds inexplicable. Working on her faerie encyclopedia, she travels on a research expedition to the faraway Hrafnsvik, hoping for some solitary months of study. Her hopes are dashed when Wendell Bambleby, rival scholar and possible faerie in hiding, arrives on her doorstep. But Wendell's aggravating presence is far from Emily's only problem, as the Hidden Folk of Hrafnsvik turns out to be far more dangerous than expected.

The Watchers by A.M. Shine
Horror. When her car breaks down, Mina tries crossing a forest by foot. As the sun goes down she finds herself lost with something dangerous closing in; at the last second, a woman appears and urges her into a bunker. Inside is a room with a mirrored wall, in which a group of strangers, stranded just like Mina, huddles through the night. Outside in the dark, something malevolent watches them through the glass. Will the group ever be able to escape the forest? While I found the characters somewhat unconvincing, this is a spooky story with fascinating lore.
The Call (Grey Land duology) by Peadar Ó'Guilín
Young adult horror. After having scorned the fae, Nessa's nation has been cursed: every teenager will, at some point, be called into the Grey Land for 3 minutes and 4 seconds before being returned. 9 out of 10 are returned dead. Trying to keep their country alive, children are sent off to training schools to prepare them and better their chances of survival. Her legs having been twisted by polio at a young age, Nessa's chances are worse than most, but she is determined to make it through her call alive.
The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher*
Horror. When her grandmother dies, Mouse takes on the task of clearing out the old woman's home. But as she arrives at her grandmother's home she realizes her mistake: her grandmother was a hoarder, and Mouse has her work cut out for her. As if this wasn't bad enough, among the things left behind Mouse finds her step-grandfather's journal, describing various horrifying encounters. All nonsense, Mouse, assumes - until she starts making her own encounters in the dark forest surrounding the house.

Faebound (Faebound series) by Saara El-Arifi
Elven sisters Yeeren and Lettle have grown up in the shadow of a forever war, one as a soldier and the other as a diviner and teller of prophecy. But when Yeeren makes a fatal mistake and is exiled, the two leave their familiar world for the first time - and end up with the mythical, and believed extinct, fae. Here they must juggle their own loyalties and hearts with political intrigue as they try to find a way to survive and return to their home. While I didn’t personally dig the romantasy vibes of this and found the elves and fae could’ve been more interesting, if you like epic fantasy with heavy romance, both f/f and f/m, you will probably enjoy it.
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik*
Historical fantasy with strong fairytale vibes. Miryem's father is a moneylender, but his inability to collect on debts has left his family on the brink of ruin. Desperate and ruthless, Miryem steps in to take his place, and suddenly the family's luck has turned. But Miryem's reputation of being able to turned silver to gold catches the attention of the Staryk King - dangerous creatures who seem made of ice body, mind and heart. In her schemes to survive the King's demands, Miryem's actions ensnare a local farmer's daughter as well as the new wife of the tsar. As their fates are bound together, the three girls may change their land forever, for better or for worse.
An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
Young adult romance. Isobel is an artist with a particular and dangerous set of clients in the fair folk. The fairies cannot create art on their own, and her portraits are highly coveted. But as she paints a portrait for the autumn prince, Rook, Isobel makes a mistake: she paints human emotion into his eyes. This weakens Rook before the fairy court, and in his fury he spirits Isobel away to stand trial for her crime.

Stardust by Neil Gaiman
In a desperate attempt to win the heart of the beautiful Victoria, Tristran Thorn makes her a promise to fetch the falling star they both saw crash one night. But to do so, he must enter the land of Faerie, where nothing is as it seems, least of all the fallen star, who isn't very keen on being given away as a gift.
Guardian of the Dead by Karen Healey*
Young adult. Ellie cares mostly about hanging out with her friend Kevin and pining after her crush Mark, but when a string of grisly murders - all the victims missing their eyes - starts taking place in her town, it’s the start of something ancient and dangerous, as vengeful fairies battle for immortality. Set in New Zeeland and based on Māori mythology.
Princess Floralinda and the Forty-Flight Tower by Tamsyn Muir
Novella. When Floralinda was first locked in a tower by a witch, princes kept coming to try and save her. But none of them made it past the dragon on the first floor, let alone the monsters after it, and now the supply of willing princes seems to have dried up. Starting to grow desperate, Floralinda captures and makes a deal with a small fairy for it to assist her in escaping the tower.

A note: all these Holly Black books are set in the same universe and do on occasion cross over, but can be read independently.
Tithe (Modern Faerie Tales trilogy) by Holly Black
Young adult. Sixteen-year-old Kade, used to traveling around with her mother's rock band, has just found herself back in her childhood home town. Here she meets up with old acquaintances - not all of them human. For Kade has always been able to see the faeries invisible to most humans. Among them is a handsome faerie knight she finds injured in the woods and chooses to help. In doing this, she becomes embroiled in a struggle between two rivaling and highly dangerous faerie courts.

Young adult. Siblings Hazel and Ben live in Fairfold, a strange town where people leave out milk for the fairies and tourists come to look at a fairy prince locked in an enchanted sleep in a glass coffin in the woods. But things have been getting even stranger in Fairfold; the fair folk are getting more agressive, and the glass coffin in the woods gets shattered. As unrest spreads throughout the town, Hazel keeps a secret that may unravel it all.
The Cruel Prince (The Folk of The Air trilogy) by Holly Black
Young adult. When Jude was seven, her parent's were murdered by a spurned faerie lover of her mother's, while she and her sisters were stolen away to be raised at the High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong in this dangerous land. Her struggle is made all the harder by Cardan, handsome faerie prince with a knack for pestering her. As she strives for some semblance of power in this dangerous realm, Jude gets involved with a conspiracy that may change Faerie forever.

The Wind City by Simmer Wigmore
Old forces are gathering in Wellington, as the displaced iwi atua of legend reappear and decide to make the city their home, and not all of them mean well.
