It’s been a year since my last read and I still can’t decide which concept is worse for today’s entry.
Jonathan had a genuine PTSD attack followed by a blackout and temporary memory lapse as a mental self-defense. Proof-positive of just how shaky the ground is in his internal foundation when it comes to his being unsure whether or not he went mad in Transylvania and whether or not that madness has stuck with him…if it is madness.
Jonathan had a genuine PTSD attack followed by a blackout—or what he forced himself to portray as a blackout—and then a careful imitation of amnesia with ensuing Precise Polite Chipper Charm for Mina’s sake. The same careful act he may or may not have put on in Budapest to avoid being kept indefinitely as a madman.
Jonathan had a genuine PTSD attack followed by Dracula reaching out to grasp his floundering mind, still held by that Transylvanian tether and the night he drank Jonathan’s blood, and quieted his runaway solicitor down to a faint and forgetfulness to avoid him making a scene. A trick not too far removed from his toying with Lucy.
All of these feel equally painful to consider for their own reasons and I am 110% not okay when thinking of any of them.

Pretty as a vine; sweet as a grape - Sneak Peak
Tumblr media
Notes: There are no real warnings, other than this is an unedited intro to the sex pollen two part fic I'm releasing next mid-week. I hope it's okay! Pairing: Cooper Howard/Lucy MaClean Warning(s): Swearing; Implications of Child Abduction; more to come
One might think that he has full sway in what happens while they travel together, as for once, he’s being nice enough to share information. He doesn’t work well with others, let alone keep them alive when it's all said and done. Cooper usually takes his caps from sales or bounty’s. And he already tried the former on MaClean.
So it’s a wonder he puts up with her deviations at all. Sometimes it’s to help someone, other times it's to explore.
Most times it’s a waste of daylight.
He thinks on this now, glaring at the sun steeped beneath an array of violet, orange, and periwinkle. The clouds are capped in gold, shafts of light desperate to pour over the wasteland. They should have made camp an hour ago, and instead they’re tracking some lady’s missing kid.
The circumstances in which he caves are almost always the same. And this is no different. A local asks Lucy for help, she agrees, he disagrees; it always comes to a head when their knowledge expands upon how the missing item is important, or God forbid, a person is missing.
Had it been a man or cat or some random family heirloom, Cooper would have sent her packing on her own. But of course, potential life means Lucy has to fit herself into the puzzle and solve it. Whether that absorbs his day too or not doesn’t seem to bother her at all.
Little miss morality has to hold the high ground and smother ethics in his face until he can’t do anything but give in and watch her back—it's a broken system.
“Here!” Lucy jogs ahead of him, her pip-boy praising her with a jingle upon reaching her destination.
Vault (#) glowers at them from over the tumultuous desert; darkened steel is lost to vines thicker than his forearm, rich in an assortment of cerulean, egg-white, magenta, and sprawling masses of black roots. It unfurls from the vaults gaping cavern with no obstruction.
Whatever plantlife this is, it isn’t native to the Mojave. Cooper takes another step, his peripheral caught on the slight thrum the plant seems to emanate.
There’s no way the kid went in willingly, right? This has to be a set up. The whole scene practically screams ‘death this way’. As far as the Ghoul is concerned, no child of the wastes is dumb enough to wander from home and into the clutches of uncharted territory. Not any with a brain.
His gut churns, his skin taut in warning, and his fingers flex beside his belt before he gathers himself in a single breath. This ain’t right.
Lucy is only a little ways ahead of him, beguiled by the abstract flora at her feet.
When she looks at him, it's confidence that glimmers in her doe-eyes. “Okey Dokey,” with a slight nod, she readies her flashlight and pistol. Cooper’s brow rises before a word can escape him, and when one eventually does, it isn’t in practice or conscious.
It just comes out.
“Don’t.”
Lucy frowns. It’s small, barely lasts a second, “We already agreed–”
“Something’s not right,” he grunts, patience already worn thin, “either we leave together or I leave alone. It’s up t’ you, sweetheart.”
Many emotions fall over Lucy's complexion. Annoyance, concern, her expression is wide and open and full of disappointment. “You said you’d watch my back, you said since it was a little kid–”
“There is no lil’ kid.” Cooper’s tone is short, both with agitation and refusal to be made a fool.
“You think Alice would lie ab–”
“Who?”
“The woman who hired us,” Lucy’s voice is high, disbelief feathered beneath shock and mild bemusement, “how do you not remember that?”
He grunts, but it’s all she receives as an answer. After a moment, Lucy adds, “She paid us up front. Why do that if you’re going to lie or kill someone?” She's more amused than displeased as her reasons continue to flow. She meets his gaze for a time, longer than he thought her capable of, until his own furrows and conveniently, the fauna is interesting again.
The vault dweller isn’t wrong, he’ll admit that. But instinct has kept him alive all these years, and he’s more obliged to listen to it than some stranger squalling about offspring she had no evidence of.
Cooper coughs, clasping to his belt tighter with the tilt of his hips when he recalls, “Half. She paid us half.”
A beat passes. Then another. He lets the insinuation hang between them until it's thick enough to drown in.
“What are you implying?”
He threw a line, she bit, now all he had to do was reel her in. Make her see sense. Whether it’s a raider's way to lure unsuspecting victims, a Vault-tec experiment gone wrong, or a vacant chamber—he didn't care. Cooper wasn't about to go and risk his life for two hundred caps and a boy he's never seen.
Despite himself, it turns out he would much rather Lucy leave with him, than allow her to fumble such an obvious trap. It’s unlike Cooper to care—if he could name it that. Perhaps there is an attachment, a pull, something just under the brittle surface they call acquaintanceship. Nothing he’s looked too far into. If he does, Cooper is unsure of where it will lead.
The fresh finger sewn to his hand itches, tingles, a fluttering reminder of where he got it; Cooper clenches his hand so tight it burns.
“There is no kid,” he hisses, lurching forward as if to make his point, “no more caps, no helpin’ some lost soul—that’s a death sentence, and you’d be wise to leave wit’ me.”
At first, the silence is deafening. Both edge on what else left there is to say, as Lucy fiddles with the notch of her flashlight. Her eyes dart back from the path they came, the vault, and Cooper himself.
Thankfully, a decision is made without any more pushback.
He's almost prideful, the way she takes one, two, three steps towards his direction—
"Mommy!" A riptide of horror settles against Lucy's trigger finger, spinning on her heel so fast, it gives him whiplash. "Mommy, I'm hurt!"
Lucy is gone, sprinting inside the second Cooper reaches for her.
It delays him, the shock in how fast she had evaded his grip. Long enough for him to think about whether or not he goes after her.  His finger itches again, a gentle warmth crawls up his arm when it flexes, more so when the weight of his firearm rests against it.
Dogmeat finally reminds the ghoul of her presence, whining in the direction of Lucy's trail.
"Fuckin' hell," he grunts, cracking his neck alongside his saunter, "this is why I work alone."
----
Again, this is unedited and I'm really sorry if there's any terrible mistakes! I promise it'll be much better post-release next week! I also didn't want to give too much away. Thank you!

AITA for being too close to my childhood best friend?
(This is so long I'm so sorry, there's just a fair bit of info.)
Me (22F) and Jake (23F) grew up together. Our mothers were friends for years and got pregnant around the same time, and we've basically been side by side our whole lives. We consider each other platonic soulmates and siblings.
Jake has had a girlfriend (Lucy, 23F) for the last seven months. I really like Lucy, she's so funny, so interesting, and she clearly makes Jake happy. There's been one or two awkward moments between us, but its never been anything that lingered or caused problems.
Now I know how people generally act/think about "the girl best friend" so when Jake said he was thinking of asking Lucy out, I made sure to back off a bit. Instead of having a brate (bro date, just hanging out doing something like bowling, Maccas, movie theatre, ect) once a week I said we should have one once a month, I don't call him just to hang on the phone together anymore, I make sure to not message at all on the days I know they have dates planned, ect.
I've really, really done my best to not get in the way, to make sure Lucy knows he really is just my brother, and I've tried to give them both space as someone who is not involved in their relationship.
I thought I was doing really well because its never really come up until this week. It was Jake and I's brate day and we decided to go to the mall so I could shop for clothes and he could get the slushies he likes there. Lucy knew where we'd be, and "happened" to show up, which was fine. Like I said, I like hanging out with her, and I actually thought it was cool I could get another girl's opinion on my outfit.
Jake decided to try on some clothes too while he was there and it turned into something of a mini fashion show of both of us showing off our possible choices. Lucy seemed to alternate between really having fun and going quiet. She refused to try on any herself but grinning and laughing while Jake and I were, and while we were taking turns playfully hyping each other up.
Jake tried on a pair of jeans and I was teasing him and said "damn dude, look at all that ass" trying to make him embarrassed. This was when Lucy muttered something I didn't quite hear, and politely suggested I should leave. Both Jake and I were really confused and taken aback and Lucy kind of shrugged and said things like this were things couples should do, and it was really inappropriate of me to make a sexual comment about her boyfriend while she was right there.
I didn't want to make a scene so I said I'd go, but Jake argued back and said it was clearly just joking around and he's sick of her getting upset at literally anything I do, or he does with me, which was surprising because it was the first I heard that she's had actual complaints.
We all wound up sitting down in the food court to talk and Lucy basically said that she's growing more and more uncomfortable with how close Jake and I are as her and Jake get closer, even though Jake and I's interactions have drastically dropped since they started dating. She thinks its weird we have friendship bracelets (our families went on a double vacation when we were 14 and me and Jake bought those cheap seaside shell bracelets in matching colors, that's literally it) and we hang out alone once a month (even though she's been invited multiple times and always refuses) and she thinks its even weirder than our families are so close and call us siblings.
I won't lie, it killed me inside, but I offered to back off entirely and only be around Jake in group settings, if at all, but Jake cut in and said that wasn't a compromise he was willing to make, and asked Lucy to talk more in private. They left together and trying to be respectful, I haven't reached out at all to either of them while they talk it through.
Jake's mom came over today to hang out with mine, and wound up telling me the last few days Jake has been stressed out, miserable, and isn't sure about staying with Lucy. She said it was a shame because Lucy seemed so nice, but she also said she was proud of him because I was family and Lucy's insecurity wasn't reasonable.
It made me feel sad and like I was hurting Jake by interfering with his relationship again, so I asked some of my online friends from a game I play and the opinion was kind of split. They all agreed I've never spoken about Jake in a way that hinted I liked him, but also that as girls, they'd feel weird anyway about knowing their boyfriend had this close bond with another girl, and they'd be wondering what the future would look like and if our friendship would get in the way of choices like moving, starting a family.
Now I feel completely lost and honestly a little scared of both losing Jake and apparently ruining his life by being so close to him. None of the rest of our IRL friend group has ever brought anything up about it, and I don't know if this is Lucy being jealous or if this is my fault.
What are these acronyms?

Can you write an angst with chris where he gets mad at y/n for something when she just wanted physical touch and then he runs after her and apologizes with like a fluff ending? If you can’t that’s ok! I love your stories :)
'CLINGY' - C.S
Tumblr media
Synopsis - request !
Warnings! - angst, fluff, kissing, Chris being a lil poopy head, no actual use of Y/N, profanity, mentions of anxiety and anger issues, commitment issues, reader has a dog, a Pitbull, I think that's it. Let me know if I missed anything!
A/N - Of course! Thank you for requesting! I really hope this is what you meant, I wasn't completely sure about most of it, but I think it works.
Tumblr media
Today was kind of stressful. I had an anxiety attack in the middle of my presentation in my creative writing course today. And that lead me here, sitting in my living room waiting for my boyfriend to answer his phone.
I sigh as it goes straight to voicemail, for the 4th time. My dog, Lucy, hops onto the couch next to me and lays down next to me, laying her head on my thigh.
I decide to text Nick to see if anything happened or something.
Me: Hey Nick, is Chris doing anything rn? Nick: No. He's just sitting on his phone. Why? Me: I've called him four times and he hasn't answered. It went straight to voice mail each time. Nick: Damn. That's weird. Me: I know. But I'll just leave him be for now. thanks Nick. Nick: Of course.
Huh.
I sigh as I drop my phone on the coffee table, making a clinking noise against the glass. As if Lucy can feel my emotions, she sits up from her laying position and gets in my face and starts attacking me with kisses, full of slobber.
After she calms down and decides to lay on my lap fully, I grab the TV remote and turn on something to keep me occupied. I go to Disney plus and turn on Tangled.
----
I'm at the scene when Flynn Rider gives the crown to the two thugs, and they put him on the ship and sail him to the jail, when I hear my phone buzz from its place on the coffee table. I sigh as I pick it up and low-and behold, it's a text from Chris. One singular text, that made my heart nearly stop.
Chris: Can you like, stop calling and texting me so damn much? You're being so clingy.
I just leave him on read and throw my phone back down, this time hitting the floor and not the coffee table. I feel my blood boil. My head is buzzing from anger. I try to focus on the movie, and I start to pet Lucy from her curled up spot on my lap, confining me to the couch.
----
The movie finished and I've since then turned-on YouTube, watching Joey Graceffa's Escape the Night series. I hear another buzz from my phone, and I pick it up from the floor.
Matt: fyi, Chris just left and is walking to your house now. Me: Thanks for the heads up. Matt: Course.
Low and behold, a knock at my door. Well, more like several knocks, each one making Lucy bark.
I scramble to the front door and open it, to see an almost angry Chris.
I furrow my brows. "Chris is-"
He just pushes past me and into my house.
"Why'd you leave me on read?"
I sigh as I shut my door and turn to face him.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe to not come off any clingier than I already was!" I say with sarcasm in my voice.
"Why weren't you answering my calls?!" I ask in retaliation.
He looks dumbfounded. Like he doesn't even know why he dodged my calls.
"Chris, why were you ignoring my calls?" I ask sternly. I feel my mind go blank and fuzzy. I feel my stomach knot up. All because of my anger.
He sighs in defeat, probably now knowing why.
"I guess, I just had a little moment."
"What do you mean by moment?" My voice is calmer, and quieter.
"I mean, you know this. I just got scared for a second. My commitment issues kicked in a little. I got insecure. I just, my mind kept going over the worst scenarios of me fucking up our relationship."
My stomach un-knots itself and I feel the fuzziness in my head go away. My expression softens and I walk to him, grabbing his hands.
"Chris, you could never fuck up our relationship. I mean, even if you did, we'd always fix it. I know you have issues with being in a relationship, I get that. But you could never hurt me, never. I love you." I put one hand on his cheek and smile softly at him. One he returns.
"I love you." He wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me close to him. I wrap my arms around his neck, pull him closer in a hug.
After he pulls back, his hands are still on my waist. I lean up and press a gentle kiss to his lips before pulling back.
"Feel better?"
"A lot better. I'm sorry."
"It's okay. Just, if you ever feel like this again, let me know. I'll help you."
His handsome smile overtakes his face, making his eyes brighten. I push a few strands of his hair out of his face with a smile on my face as well.

The Tim Tests -- those don't make me like him. I know. You're nothing like him. I… Come here. You're nothing like him.
| ANATOMY OF A SCENE - CHENFORD EDITION 4.09 - Breakdown
The symbolism of Lucy helping Tim remove walls in his childhood home, of all places, is incredibly poetic. When she met him, he had built so many - metaphorical - walls around him, they were practically a fortress… But that didn't stop her from seeing through them and find a way in. And since then, she has been by his side, helping him lower them. So it's only natural that she would be there for him, when his last walls are tumbling down. When he confronts the person who made those walls necessary in the first place.
The level of vulnerability and honesty he displays here is astonishing. He doesn't try to downplay what he's feeling, and considering how painful this chapter of his life is, it says a lot on how much he trusts Lucy to be here and see him like this. This may seem inconsequential but this is huge for someone who had to learn to hide his emotions very young to avoid setting off his abusive father or to shield his younger sister from what was truly happening. Only here, he can't hide behind a mask. Not after talking to his father. It's the confirmation that the latter protected his mistress all along, even on his death bed, when he never did any of that for his own family, when he was the monster they needed protection from, that breaks Tim. His feelings of disappointment, betrayal and anger are so raw. So visceral. And this ultimately explains why he's always amazed when Lucy fiercely defends and protects him.
Which is also why her previous comment about the Tim Tests struck a chord. To be fair, I don't think she ever meant to imply he was anything like his father. It rather sounded like she had found the final pieces of a puzzle, the answer as to where these tests came from since Tim was the only TO doing them. I'm not even sure she realised she was saying it aloud until it was too late. Nevertheless, her remark dug deep… even more so since it piled up with his sister's who at times sounded almost dismissive towards his feelings and his own boundaries on the topic. It was important for Tim to address this. He needed the reassurance that he wasn't anything like his father. But most of all, he needed to hear it from Lucy specifically, and not just because of that remark. Her opinion matters to him a lot. She knows him the best, met him at one of his lowest point, saw his demons, has never been afraid to call him out… and she's also someone who sees the best in everyone. Just the thought that she - of all people - could think that he might be like his dad is too much already. There's a moment where he instinctively steps back, as if he's bracing himself for the worst. Tim looks so much like a lost kid in that moment, all teary-eyed. But Lucy is right there to reassure and comfort him. She wasn't going to let him entertain the thought any longer. The way he sinks into her embrace, the big breath he takes when she repeats adamantly that he's nothing like his father, the swaying… This is exactly why he wanted her by his side in the first place, why he invited her. She is the person with whom he can drop his mask and not be self-conscious about it because he feels safe with her. She is his safe space. And the hug is the perfect embodiment of this.

Can Anybody See Me? Part 10
Hey...you know how I said I had another fic I was working on that I planned on putting up the first part for today? Yeah...that didn’t work out. It needed a lot of heavy editing and because this got finished today with only minor edits, you get this instead.
Also...I realized that until this part...I never mentioned the name of the musical they’re doing. Ooops!
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9
*
To say Steve was nervous as hell would be an understatement. He had been in drama less than a month and now he was standing on the stage watching people mill around. And there was a lot of people. People who were taking measurements for costumes. Makeup and wigs people. Apparently kids from orchestra and band were going to be playing the music in the ‘pit’. Then there were people working on sets and up in the rafters checking the lights.
He had been to couple of plays on Broadway when he was younger. Of course he had. But he never knew how much went into making it look like magic when he was sitting in the audience.
A girl came up to him and squeezed his elbow.
“You’re Steve Harrington, right?” she asked.
Steve nodded, tongue tied from the sheer panic running through his body.
“I’m Janice Montgomery,” she said gently. “You’re friends with Gareth and them?”
Steve nodded again. “You must be the badass chick of the Hellfire Club.”
Janice grinned. “Oh good, you have heard of me.”
“A middle schooler I babysit for’s younger sister looves D&D so I try to talk you up as much as possible to piss her brother off,” he explained with a grin.
She laughed out loud. “Thanks. But I understand that this is your first time doing a play?”
“Acting in front of other people full stop,” Steve said, nodding.
Her eyes went wide and she tilted her head forward. “Please tell me you at least did the school play in elementary about the benefits of healthy eating.”
Steve scratched his face nervously. “Uh...that would be a no.”
“Fuck.”
Steve hung his head. “I really shouldn’t be here.”
She shoved his arm. “Miss Lucy isn’t the type of teacher to play favorites. Thomson isn’t a large role with a lot of blocking. Mostly standing in front of everyone else reading and being annoyed.”
Steve laughed. “I could do that, yeah.”
“See? You’ll do fine. You’ll dance for the major numbers, and then that heart-wrenching scene at the end.”
“Yeah, I auditioned with that scene, because it has both the singing and the acting in it.”
“Wow,” Janice said. “That’s impressive.”
Steve blushed. “Another middle schooler I babysit is in the drama club and asked him for pointers.”
“Well at least you know how to strategize,” she said. “Marty and I will help walk you through it. If have any questions come to either of us, okay?”
He nodded. “Thanks for this.”
The spot light lit them up and they both squealed from the sudden brightness.
Janice held up her hand over her eyes and screamed, “Eddie!”
Steve heard him cackle before the brightness was severely toned down.  And then Eddie dropped down in front of them, landing deftly on the stage.
“Mr Munson!” Miss Lucy called out. “I appreciate your grace as much as the next person, but one day you will break straight through this old stage and the school will not replace it.”
“Harsh, Miss Lucy!” he called back.
She chuckled darkly and went back to her notes.
“That was cool,” Steve murmured.
Eddie grinned. “She is right about the stage though. I don’t think they’ve redone it since it was put in god knows how long ago.”
Steve smiled.
Janice raised an eyebrow and then cleared her throat.
Eddie turned to her. “Congrats on getting Abby, Miss Montgomery.”
“I just can’t believe Tammy Thompson got Martha Jefferson,” Janice complained.
“I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure of hearing her,” Steve said.
“You’ll hear her a lot,” Eddie said. “She has a song in the second act.”
Steve rolled his eyes. “I’m sure it’ll be great.”
Eddie and Janice just stared at him.
“Or not...”
They burst out laughing.
“Hey, guys!” Marty said jogging up to them.
Everyone returned greetings of their own.
“So...I found out how Tammy got the part...” he said with a grimace.
“Oh no...” Eddie said. “This can’t be good.”
“Her mom is a seamstress and has offered to make all the costumes for free as well rent the wigs for a low price.”
Janice stamped her foot angrily. “With an offer like that I’m surprised she didn’t gun for my role.”
Steve looked between them confused. “I don’t understand.”
“Have you not seen 1776?” Marty asked.
Eddie and Janice turned to him and stared at him as though he had grown an extra head.
“Um...” Steve stammered, “well...I’ve been meaning to and I just haven’t got around to it, yet.” He scratched his cheek nervously.
“You mean to tell us,” Eddie said slowly, “that not only did you try out for a play you haven’t seen, you managed to get a fairly major roll for said play?”
Steve nodded, blushing a deep red.
“That’s it!” Marty cried. “You coming over to my house and we are watching it!”
Steve frowned. “How are we going to do that? I didn’t know they put plays on VHS.”
Marty clapped his shoulder. “You are in luck my friend because they did movie several years ago.”
“I guess...” Steve said shyly. “I’ll come over on one condition.”
Janice and Marty exchanged a knowing glance.
“What would that be?” Janice asked innocently.
“If Eddie comes too?” Steve bit the bottom of his lip and looked up at Eddie through his eyelashes.
Eddie blinked. “As long as it not on a Hellfire night, I’m down.”
Steve smiled softly.
“Is tonight good?” Marty asked.
Janice shook her head. “I work tonight.”
Steve shifted back and forth on his feet. “We could do it tomorrow at my place. My parents aren’t home and I have a big screen TV.”
“Sold!” Marty said.
“Yeah, man,” Eddie said rocking back on his heels. “That sounds cool.”
“I’ll bring the tape, Marty will provide drinks and Eddie the popcorn,” Janice said.
Steve looked uncomfortable. “You don’t have bring anything I’m sure I’ve plenty of stuff.”
Eddie wagged his finger at him. “Ah, ah, ah, Harrington. That’s not how movie nights work. Host merely hosts. Everyone else provides.”
Steve blushed. “Yeah, okay. Then you guys can explain the Tammy Thompson drama.”
Marty clapped his hands together and rubbed them. “It’s is sooo good.”
Steve just laughed.
“All right everyone!” Miss Lucy said. “It’s time for the read through. Mr Kincade, Mr Munson if you wouldn’t mind helping set up chairs?”
Marty and Eddie nodded. They gathered up as much seating as they could find. Those that didn’t have any lines sat in the audience around Miss Lucy, Mrs Lawson the dance teacher, and Mr Dent the choir teacher.
Steve pulled out his script and waited for his first line.
Eddie sat in the audience and Marty flopped down next to him.
“You’ve got it bad,” he said, nudging Eddie with his elbow. “He know about your proclivities toward members of your own sex?”
Eddie winced. “Tommy called me a fag often enough, but no. I don’t think he knows.”
Marty patted him on the shoulder. “You probably should tell him.”
*
Everyone showed up at Steve’s house around seven. Marty having picked Eddie and Janice up.
“I got some candy anyway,” Steve said as he led the way to the front room.
Marty and Eddie just shook their heads.
Janice rolled her eyes but they wisely said nothing. They all got set up and sprawled out on the couches.
Steve hit play and lost himself in the music. He laughed at the funny bits swooned when he supposed to, and got teary eyed at “Mamma, Look Sharp.”
“You clearly enjoyed that,” Marty said.
“It was good,” Steve said. “Not very historically accurate, though, right?”
Eddie grinned. “Nope. Barely even close. But it’s fun and over the top.”
“It certainly is that,” Steve chuckled.
“Okay,” Janice said rubbing her hands together manically. “Who’s hotter: Thomas Jefferson or Lyman Hall?”
Eddie tapped his finger on his lips. “Jefferson. Love the lighter hair and tall.”
Marty crowed. “Red heads are hot, but gotta give it to my man, Lyman Hall. When he slams Georgia’s vote to yay...mhmmm...that’s some good shit.”
Steve frowned. “You’re both wrong.” All heads turned to him in shock. “Charles Thomson and not just because that’s who I’m playing.”
“You think Thomson is better looking than Hall?” Marty asked, dismayed. “You can’t mean that.”
Steve shrugged. “Hall’s good looking, sure. Soft spoken, too. But there is just something about how the actor portrayed Thomson that just brought this strength that Hall didn’t have.”
Steve blushed. “Plus Jefferson is married and I don’t look at taken people. No matter how hot they are.”
Eddie leaned forward and put his fingers to his lips. “Steve, I need to you to be honest with us. We aren’t going to judge or flip out but...do you like like boys?”
Steve blinked. “I never really thought about it. I thought it was normal to talk about how attractive other dudes are. Me and Tommy did it all the time.”
Marty and Eddie shared a concerned glance.
Janice shook her head. ‘That’s not something straight boys do.”
“Then why were you asking us about who was more attractive?”
“Because we deemed you safe,” Marty said as if it was the simplest thing in the world, instead of the massive bomb it should have been. “I’m bisexual. I like both.”
“And I’m gay,” Eddie said bluntly, resting his elbows on his knees.
Steve blinked. “Oh. I’m not sure what I am, then.”
Janice put her hand his shoulder. “Hey, you don’t have to figure it out right away, Steve. I didn’t mean to make question your identity.”
“Just don’t freak out, man,” Marty said. “I don’t think I’m equipped to deal with water works.”
Steve cocked his head. “I mean, I guess. But there’s no reason to freak out about it. Yeah, I’ve used fag and queer as insults and that’s not good. Obviously. But finding out I like boys? Not as earth shattering as I thought it would be.”
“And you don’t mind us being queer?” Eddie asked.
Steve frowned. “No. And I understand your concern. But no. Of course not.”
Eddie nodded and then sat back.
“So you thought Tammy would want to be Abigail instead of Martha?” Steve asked Janice. “Because it’s the bigger role?”
Janice flopped back against the cushions. “Exactly. Abby has more lines, more songs, more stage time in general.”
Steve let out a chuckle. “Then you don’t know Tammy.”
Marty and Eddie leaned in.
“Oh, do tell,” Marty pleaded.
“She would want the ‘pretty’ role,” Steve said. “Especially if she’s basing her idea of the roles on this movie. Virginia who played Abby is gorgeous, but in an understated, has had six kids and worked her whole life kind of way.”
“But Blythe Danner is just straight up hot,” Marty said.
Steve snapped his fingers. “Exactly. Tammy is just vain enough to want the Martha role even though it’s smaller...”
“Because she’s prettier than me?” Janice asked incredulously.
Steve laughed. “I didn’t say that. I said that Tammy thought that.”
“Mine!” Janice said throwing her arms around Steve possessively.
Eddie’s stomach rolled. He looked away so he didn’t see Steve blush and shift uncomfortably under her affection. But Marty did.
“Hey, quit hogging the guy,” he teased. “There’s enough Steve for everyone.”
Eddie looked back to see Steve gently push her off of him. “I’ve got a lot people who already have claimed that title, you’re gonna hafta stand in line.”
Janice and Marty looked at each other in confusion.
Eddie pursed his lips. “It’s the kids, right?”
Steve nodded, but Marty and Janice’s looks of confusion didn’t clear.
“Stevie here babysits,” Eddie said grinning from ear to ear.
Steve laughed. “At least that’s what I call it so people don’t freak out. So until Eddie took me under his wing, most of my friends were thirteen year olds.”
“I take in lost sheep,” Eddie said. “Never took in a senior before. Or a former popular kid, it’s been quite the eye opener.”
Steve blushed and ducked his head. “I’ve never been more grateful to see a person in my life then when I looked up and saw you that day in Mr Vinke’s class.”
Eddie shoved his hair in front of his face and looked away, this time for a more pleasant reason then before.
Marty and Janice looked over Steve’s head and grinned.

Happy Saturday all :) We only have 5 eps left in this season. I can’t believe it. 17 days to the premiere. Well 18 for me since I don't have cable just Hulu but still. Ahhh the Dim and Juicy Ep. I remember the 3 week hiatus to get to it was the worst. Felt like we had a lot of extended breaks in S5. Drove me insane. But anything is better than the one we’re coming out of now ha I’ll take 3 weeks over 9 months any day heh.
I liked the parallel in this how unhealthy Jake/Sava were. And how solid Tim and Lucy are. I mean Dim And Juicy were a mess. My god the man cheated on her more than once. They are not relationship goals lol I enjoyed them nonetheless though. I know Eric and Melissa had a blast filming this. Did my best to get everything in. Content heavy one. Let us get started.
5x18 Double Trouble
Tumblr media
We hit the ground running in this one. Sava is waiting for Jake outside of prison. He’s getting released due to overcrowding. Not because he was good LOL Even Sava makes a crack it wasn't that. Been serving about 6 months for the drug charge got in 4x22. It’s a trip to watch them. We get all the benefits of Melissa and Eric’s chemistry inside another couple. It's wild. Sava all but squee's when she see's Jake which is pretty cute.
They launch themselves at each other once he’s free. All kisses and hands. Saying how much they missed each other. All the chemistry and swaying cuteness that comes with them. This scene is pretty cute to watch. They do look like they are so in love which makes what Jake does later so confusing and awful tbh. He greets her friend Lisa with a hug and you can see Sava breaks it up pretty quickly.
Tumblr media
Sava brings Jake back to her side. Asking what he wants to do first? Being the classy gentlemen he is saying she knows what. Ha Horny horn dogs. I do love it though. it’s like getting the most reckless AU version of Tim and Lucy. Although they wouldn’t cheat so it’s not entirely accurate lol Sava asking him if he wants to go straight? Jake replying 'Nah, screw that. Let's be bad.'
This leads us into the documentary. Shots of Jake and Sava during it. My god they are sex crazed af. I think that’s why everyone loved watching them though. heh They legit were gonna make a sex tape and got caught LOL I remember being so excited and confused as to what this episode was going to be ha. All I knew was going to be a documentary one and I always have a soft spot for these ones.
Tumblr media
We start off with Lucy getting mic’d up. She looks way more nervous this time around. Why you ask? Her person isn’t with her. Her safe space and grounding force is missing. She even asks why she can’t be interviewed with him? They want their POV's to be separate this time. It’s so sweet she misses him and needs his presence to calm her nerves. This makes me so happy I cannot.
We watch her take a deep breathe knowing they have to be apart. They ask how Lucy knew of Jake Butler in the first place? Lucy goes on to explain about Tamara’s car and drugs they found in it. Which led them to Jake. They bring up the fact he and Tim look alike. Tim is already grumpy and hates these damn things. What happens when you remove him away from his sunshine human.
He’s extra grumpy. It shows in his very first shot. His body language screaming how much he doesn’t want to be here. The crossed arms (mmm hello biceps.) Tim defiantly saying how they don’t look the same at all. Refusing to believe they are anything alike. Other than looks Jake is the complete opposite of everything Tim is for sure. He’s so sassy and salty when the director says they’re identical. ‘Says you.’ Oh my love. I adore you.
Tumblr media
They come at Lucy with both barrels about being Dim and Juicy for their OP in 'Double Down.' Knowing their ‘pretend’ intimacy was so much more than that. Lucy looks like she’s getting overwhelmed poor thing. She tries to divert it back to what they accomplished with their OP. Not the fact that they were UC together as a couple. The director presses more asking if that’s when her and Tim became intimate?
There’s a reason they pulled Tim from her for these questions. He would’ve knocked this guy out for them being so personal. Also for making her feel uncomfortable asking them. She can’t even look the man in the face when she says this BS line about pretending. Cause it’s utter crap and she knows it. Yeah they were in other relationships at the time. To quote Angela from 5x01 ‘All true. Not what I asked.’
Tumblr media
Lucy defending them both. Saying they didn’t get together until they were both single. Which is true and I am eternally grateful for. Do love her making sure everyone knows this. That they didn’t do anything untoward during their OP. Cause they wouldn’t while in relationships. Not who they are. They were damn close but didn't. Why they are the opposite of Jake/Sava. The director says he wants to dial in on that. Lucy becoming agitated asking do we really have to?
These questions clearly getting under her skin. The director noting it’s astronomical they would even meet the both of them. Let alone have both Jake/Sava together and her and Tim as well in a relationship. Before she can answer Tim interrupts says interview is over. She asks what's wrong? He tells her not here.. Lucy thinking it’s linked to questions she’s being asked. I love him holding the door for her as they leave. Ever the gentlemen.
Tumblr media
The closeness and height difference is glorious in this shot. You can tell when they’re alone by her body language Lucy goes into calm down Tim mode. Her hand reaching out for his and subtly touching it. Thinking she has to get him to settle down for hearing those questions. Before Lucy can talk Tim explains why he removed her. Has nothing to do with that. He pulled her over because Jake has gone missing. Doesn’t want to do police work in front of the cameras. Saying Nolan and Celia got missing persons call and it’s about Jake. Lucy is shocked saying 'What?'
Tumblr media
Nolan and Celina show up and Sava is freaking out cause Jake is missing. The director asks why Jake and Sava are at a mansion in Beverley Hills? We find out they’ve been casing rich families. Taking over jobs like handy man, nanny etc so they can live in these fancy houses and steal their stuff. It’s pretty smart despite being awful LOL This last family needed a handy man. Jake beats the crap out of the current one. Strong arms his way into taking his job.
I do love seeing how tall he is in that camera shot. mmm. Tall drink of water that man. Jeans and a leather jacket? Yum. Gimme. Luckily this family needed a nanny as well. So they both fit right into this scenario. Angela saying Sava slid right in LMAO I’m dying at Wes’s reaction. They’re so cute I can’t stand it. I do love me some Wopez. He tells her that's a really descriptive way to say it HA These documentaries always produce the funniest little moments like this. Why I love these and have a soft spot for them.
Tumblr media
We return to Nolan’s and Celina questioning Sava. She is still panicking. Saying this is why she didn't want to call the cops. Nolan noting because they're doing something illegal? She tries to defend their jobs there. That they're "straight" now. John gets her back on track by saying Jake disappeared? We cut to another video slash moment. Sava and her videos ha it is super cute how he looks at the camera. That smile we all love. Jake saying she needs to remind him to erase security footage. My god they’re sex bunnies LMFAO. He gets up to grab another beer and asks if she wants anything? She said lobster salad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ass tap he gives her on his way to get another beer. my goodness. I love it. Reeling over here. Don't worry about me. They must’ve had so much fun filming this. I mean Eric mentioned it was one of fav eps of the season. The BTS they did leading up to his showed how much they enjoyed it. Her little dance after he says he’ll get her lobster salad. Haha Sava just living her best life in this moment and it’s showing. Sadly this is the last time Jake is seen alive on camera.
Tumblr media
We find out Jake took off and never told Sava where he was going. Which is heartbreaking. Because she clearly loved this man very much. Moral compass or not she loved Jake. That gets them on the topic of lying and secrets in a relationship. They ask her if Tim and her keep secrets? Lucy says nothing big.
That honesty is the most important thing in a relationship. Cutting to Tim and his reply I’m rolling. Eric killing it in this episode with his sarcasm. The king delivers once again. I mean he’s not wrong he is sitting there because of her secret. Well intentioned secret though LOL One born out of love. This one was funnier than the other two I thought. Just lots of funny/punchy bits like this one. I enjoyed it so much.
Tumblr media
We return to station. Aaron’s calling in he found a body. That it’s Tim. The expressions in this scene are primo. First off Lucy and Celina's confusion is hysterical. Standing next to him and hearing this when he's very much not. Tim looks so annoyed Aaron couldn’t tell it wasn’t him LOL Also irritated at the thought of being dead. Like he's insulted he would ever be dead in a dumpster haha Oh Tim I love you so much.Like Aaron you’re all looking for Jake and your mind goes to Tim LMAO Never gonna live this down my dude....
Tim grabbing Lucy’s radio off her hip is doing things to me. I also adore the looks when he does. She just allows it only looking down. Such a deep level of comfortability in this action too. Lucy doesn’t react at all. Just used to Tim and his antics. It’s the little glances through out this portion love too. Tim's look into the camera cracking up as well. Like this friggin dope thinking i'm dead... His face the literal version of SMH ha I loved this mini moment so much.
Tumblr media
They ask Tim if it was disconcerting he saw a version of himself dead in the dumpster? Being Tim he’s not going to show a documentary crew of all people his vulnerability. That’s reserved for one person and one person only. We shoot back to Lucy who says she has nightmares. God I can only imagine the nightmares seeing that produced for her though. Even though it wasn’t him you know she carried that with her when they left.
I bet you she had nightmares that night and Tim had to soothe her. Damn that would be good fic... LOL Anyways they ask Lucy if she thinks Tim has nightmares? Lucy tells them no but he’s been doing the job longer. I love her defending his high walls though. Saying why they’re in place. Not wanting them to judge him for it. Refusing to let anyone cast a negative light on him.
Tumblr media
The director asks if she’s jealous he can turn it off like that? Lucy’s answer is great because it’s very her. Telling them No. Personally she needs to feel for people it’s who she is. I totally get that I am a massive empath. It’s how I connect with people as well. It has it's downsides it’s true but worth it in the end. When they ask her bout his walls being an issue? I LOVE her smile. Because those walls have never really been an issue. A challenge for Lucy yes in slowly breaking his down over the years. But never an obstacle for them.
We all know she saw behind his walls very early on in their relationship. Saw the man hiding behind that wall. Tim has been a soft marshmallow for her for YEARS. Legit years. Why she has zero hesitation in her reply. He was soft for her long before they got together. It’s just now he allows himself to fully be this way openly and he’s ok with it. Well when they’re alone he is. Of course he’s going to be rough and grumpy with the crew. They’re not his person. Nor would he ever tell them he was soft for her.
That's not Tim Bradford at all. But his actions speak louder than his words ever could. You have to earn that out of him though. Lucy earned it million times over. Why she is the only one who gets to see it. Does crack me up the way the director says. ‘No sir....’ After Tim asks him if he looks like a big softy? You know Tim loved instilling that fear in him. He may be super gone for his wife. But he’ll be damned if he doesn’t command fear and respect around everyone else. These two the epitome of Grumpy x Sunshine per usual. Tim is hard ass unless you’ve made past his wall. He loves Lucy most so she gets all the soft goodies haha
Tumblr media
Sava shows the director a video she’s scared to share with the team after being questioned. Thinking they’re gonna use it against her. It’s a video of them driving around being all cute. Saying I love you to the camera and such. But then get run off the road in an attempt to kill them. Their car gets totaled and Jake has them bail completely. Car and everything they leave behind. They were able to locate the car for evidence after they see this.
They couldn’t get anything from the car scrapings unfortunately. Had the most common paint out there. So another layer was added to this mystery. Who was the driver? Sava then gets a text threatening her about an item she had no idea about. One that needed to be delivered. It was sent to her and Jake. The texts went on to be violent in nature toward Sava. So it was time for Lucy to go UC to figure this out. Meet up with this person threatening her.
Tumblr media
Thanks to Lucy’s UC Op the SL finally has some answers. The guy contacting them was related to Jake they were cousins. He was into some shady stuff and was an international arms dealer. This where I really feel bad for Sava. She had no idea about these back ally dealings he was doing. Not only that but he was cutting her out of the deal on top of it. That Jake targeted this family for a specific reason and she had no idea. Makes me sad when she says she thought he loved her oof.
That she knew him. Pretty sad. We find out later through Sava. That Jake always had a burner phone. They were able to get that number through this whole thing with the shady cousin. It’s where we find out Jake was cheating on Sava. Again….Lucy calling him the Shakespeare of sexting LOL They ask her if she’ll read some of them? It’s adorable how flustered she gets. Saying she can’t her Nana would be watching this. HA
The director does the dumbest thing he could do. Asking Tim if he would read some? Like did you really think that was gonna happen bud? Like really? His reply of if Lucy wasn’t gonna he sure as hell wasn’t going to. Telling him to take that away from him. Have you not paid attention at all in these documentaries? Why would they think asking was a good idea? LMFAO Mess with the bull gonna get the horns people.
Tumblr media
We find out the person Jake was cheating on Sava with was Lisa. Her best friend…Like damn it’s bad enough to cheat but with her best friend? God…As douchey as it gets on his part. Jake breaks up with her via text but Lisa can’t handle the fact he was choosing Sava. It’s when everything comes together. We find out she tried to run them off the road and kill them. When that failed she asks for Jake’s forgiveness. Wanting to meet up. When he showed up she killed him immediately and dumped his body. Shit….That's a seriously scorned women right there.
Tumblr media
This next portion is the definition Grumpy x Sunshine. They ultimately decide not to charge Sava with anything. The director asking what Lucy thinks of this? She of course gives the softest, most empathetic, and hopeful answer. Because it’s Lucy Chen. She exudes all that in her decision making. It is her super power after all. Naturally her answer was geared towards a second chance. Thinking maybe this will put Sava on the right path.
We cut to Tim saying ‘Of course she said that.’ He knows his girl so well. What’s so great here is his expression as he says it. That smile of his when he says that line. We all know one of the reasons he fell for her is that sunshine. That empathy and her seeing the best in people. She charmed her way into his heart with it. He truly does admire her for it. You can see the fond affection his face and tone when he says this.
He may not agree with her but he loves that about her. The man loves her so much even when he’s being sassy it comes off as affectionate. It's the first time we see him smile this episode. Why? He’s talking about Lucy. She brings it out in him. She melts him even without even being present. Just the thought of her and he lights up. Her compassion is one of his fav things about her. Gah they cute.
Tumblr media
They finally get to to be interviewed together. It’s the best part of the episode. Director not wasting any time with his first question. Asking them if they’re worried cause their doppelgänger relationship was so dysfunctional? Lucy once again seeing the best in them. Telling him it was an unfair characterization of them. That Jake cheated not only that but cut her out of a gun deal after that. Not healthy in the least but to her not dysfunctional.
I adore how riled up Tim is with his questions. Protective Tim has entered this conversation. Getting very agitated with what he’s implying. Look at how Lucy looks at Tim as he goes off on his rant. She loves this man sitting next to her. Grumpy rants and all. The amount of affection on her face as he continues his tangent. She could watch him go off all day. My heart. The director saying he thinks it's reasonable question. Tim doesn't agree and tells him off. Saying they’re working too hard. Ha I love him.
Tumblr media
Tim continues on (very passionately might I add) about separating their relationship from Jake/Sava’s. Want's to make it VERY clear they are nothing like those two. That the only thing they share is looks. He is so offended he would even compare the two. I mean it’s true. They’re not on the same planet as Tim and Lucy. Lucy continues to look at her man with serious heart eyes. Her smile giving me all the feels.
She is loving his fierce defense of them as a couple. Saying Jake/Sava based their lives on deceit. Of course it infected their relationship. He’s not wrong…This next bit gets me all in my feels. The way he looks over at Lucy. A real genuine smile just for her. Look at his smile. I'm a puddle. He is the absolute softest for her. *heart clutch*
Saying they’re in a very different place. His passionate defense is of them is sexy if you ask me. Also look how different he is with her by his side. Sharing more than he's been doing in his previous interviews. Being a little vulnerable cause she’s there with him. More than he has the entire episode. I cannot. This makes my heart so happy.
Tumblr media
The look on Lucy’s face when they ask what place they’re in? She is also ready to throw down with them. Incensed they would even ask that. Her reply is perfection. Saying ‘If you don’t know, then you haven’t been paying attention.’ I remember thinking this was a shot at anyone complaining this season. (and I LOVED it) Which blew my mind btw whenever I saw it. Cause if you could be negative in a season this good what makes you happy? I remember unfollowing some people cause I didn't want their tainted vision in my feed. If you could look at their relationship and not see the beautiful progression you weren't watching the same season as me.
To not see what they’ve built to this point in the season. You are like Lucy said clearly not paying attention. I remember seeing some posts about not enough PDA, kisses or intimacy. (there was lots of intimacy btw just not straight up making out) You’re missing the point of the realistic healthy adult relationship that's being portrayed. They're not teenagers who will be angsty over nothing. These are people in a stage of their life where that nonsense isn't going to happen. Any angst they've had has been productive. If you came out of this episode thinking they needed to be more like Jake/Sava you missed the point entirely. Of this season really. They are not them.
The beauty of Lucy and Tim is in the small tender moments. The little things that add up to so much. Yes I love kisses and such don't get me wrong. God I love them. Will lose my mind over any in S6 no doubt. But there is so much more to a relationship than just that. The emotional intimacy and how they’ve grown together since 5x10 is unreal. The massive shift in Tim alone is enough to tell you how well written they are. What a healthy adult relationship looks like. Had their bumps along the way but what couples doesn’t? I just loved that line from Lucy. S5 is a game changer in the best way for them. If you can’t see it or how they've both grown together you clearly haven’t been paying attention. That line was amazing and I loved her saying as such.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The director takes shot at what place they're in. Coming up with some buzz words. As generic as he could possibly be. Lucy calls him out for it. Because it no where near describes what these two have. Tim is simmering as this guy continues to try and rile them up. I adore him ready to go off and Lucy immediately calms him with a single touch. That’s all takes for him to go from raging bull to heart eye Tim in an instant for her.
Tim was ready to thrown the hell down. I love protective Tim. Lucy taking the wheel in this moment is everything. Her touch basically saying she's got this. Looking directly at her man when she says this next line above. Also don’t think I didn’t see your eyes move to his lips madam. I do adore how she is looking at him. Exuding every ounce of love in her body for him as she speaks. They’re so in love make my heart hurt in the best way. Her eyes so full of warmth and affection for the man sitting next to her. They really are in a beautiful place. Making my shipper heart so very happy.
Tumblr media
Tim’s sweet smiles as she rubs her thumb up and down his wrist in a soothing manner. I love it so very much. Never be over how she make's sure to keep eye contact as she calms him down. Tim also doesn't break his eye contact with her as she does this. They're killing me with all the shipper feels in this moment.
Let’s not forget her necklace on full display here. In this beautiful moment. Happy looks so damn good on them everyone. Another thing I love so much is how Tim lets her take over. He was ready to shut this down. Kick them out. She places her hand on his arm and he’s at peace. Lets her direct them from here on out. Only Lucy has the power to soothe him this quickly and effectively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She’s calmed Tim down enough to have him rejoin the convo. Saying as police officer your future is never certain. Lucy adding on anything can happen at any time. Tim rolling it into kicking them out is amazing. Telling them straight up they’ve overstayed their welcome at this point. I mean they really have LOL Cracks me up how she turns her head towards him. Not really shocked but realizing he's over this now. Her smile is the best.
I love him pointing his finger. The shots at his relationship with Lucy were his breaking point. That is the most precious thing in world to him. Something so sacred. Why Lucy had to stop him from eating them lol Lucy’s reaction is the best. She loves this insane man sitting next to her so much. Her pushing his arm down like 'Ok babe that’s enough.' lmao. Such a wifey move to do that but also she knows Tim is at his limit. Tells them it's time to go now....
Tumblr media
I love them instantly going into couple time mode once it's over. Lucy asking if he wants sushi? Tim saying how it’s perfect. Then looks back at them glaringly. Saying this place better be spotless when they get back. I love her escorting him out of the apt. Hand on his back directing him towards the front door before he pops off more. Such a married move. God damn I love them so much everyone. Fantastic ep from start to finish. ❤️

Subtle Bridges
Walking with me, you'd once pointed to the fragility and ingenuity of a spider's web. Subtle bridges, you said, On bridges some men hang. A warning that has stayed While I read history traced in blood and tears of men. I was caught in the end with a nest of books. They burned anyway, and now I bend to build an emperor's endless wall. Like a thread of longing the border runs in loops and bends, and along it we root the gravestones of nameless men. A king's metaphor, This is, history raised from ash and bone -- a symbol Of its vast futility, or of eternity. Which it is I do not know, But since leaving home some things have come clear. No one literally breaks from loss, not even here. And some ties won't give. I sometimes dream of you, and walking, in gardens where love and knowledge hang.
By Yvonne Koh
She was at the Kensel Green Cemetery with the rest of her team from Fittes, after being called down by DEPRAC because of a robbery. They had spread out over the building, looking for any sign of the missing relic or the culprit, when she heard a slow, grinding noise from inside the hall. She quietly crept in to the silhouette of a shadowy figure bent over the casket.
"Can I help you?"
The boy's head snapped up immediately, painfully slamming against the stone shelf behind him. She let out an involuntary gasp, briefly wincing at the hollow thunk.
"Didn't do it," he groaned, steadying himself against the wall. "...whatever it was that...someone did."
She squinted at him using the little light spilling in from the corridor. He couldn't have been more than a year or two older than her. Against her better judgement, she kept her voice down.
"This is a crime scene!" she hissed at him.
"I - what?"
"Who are you?"
"I'm not a thief, or a relic man. I promise."
Her eyes swept his scruffy appearance critically. "Why would I think that?"
"Ms L/N?"
She turned, momentarily speechless, barely registering the rustle of the boy stealing away into the darkness. She blinked against the brightness of Inspector Barnes' torch, glancing back to check that he really was gone.
"Everything alright?"
She paused for a moment longer, as if willing him to rematerialise in the corner he had been crouching in just a moment ago. Nothing. Her eyes narrowed. Interesting. Very interesting indeed.
"Must have been the wind."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
George was staring out the kitchen window glumly, lazily stirring his mug of tea. The weather was as pleasant as it got, and Lockwood had roused them all at the crack of dawn for a breakfast picnic, to 'boost morale.' Of course, George should have known better than to hold his breath, especially when loud angry voices had started to shake him awake when he had been halfway through groggily packing their picnic basket. Now, he sipped his cold tea through thin lips, listening to the slow, steady footsteps approaching the kitchen and the wan face belonging to them.
"Let me guess. You and Lucy are no longer in the mood for a picnic?"
Lockwood sombrely shook his head. George sighed, picking up the picnic basket. Seemed like a shame to let his slaving away go to waste. And he was still very much in the mood for the strawberries and cream he had packed inside. Which is why George had been heading out for a solo breakfast picnic with enough food for three when he heard a foreign voice stop him.
"George Casper Karim."
He looked up from the doorknob in alarm. It was the girl from Kensel Green Cemetery. He hesitated, trying to gauge her expression.
"Ex-employee of Fittes Agency, fired after six months for insubordination, currently a researcher at Lockwood & Co."
"Brilliant. Astonishing, really, how you've repeated my own job history back to me."
She frowned. He relished the stab of satisfaction. He'd had a shitty morning and was likely going to have a shitty day, so really, having a go at someone was probably going to be the highlight.
"There's no need to be rude."
"I think I'd know where I've been the past couple of years, thanks very much. Forgive me for not being more impressed."
Still looking a little disgruntled, she pressed on, firmly clutching the waist-high gate. "I've got a bone to pick with you, if you don't mind."
He eyed her warily, and decided against approaching her any further. "You can pick it just fine from over there."
She looked mildly peeved, but he didn't trust her as far as he could throw her. After a few long, tense seconds, she relented, not that she was happy about it..
"So...you were right. You're no relic man."
That was quick. "Thank you. Have a nice day." He closed the distance between him and the gate in a few quick strides, pushing against it, but she pushed right back with a steely look in her eye.
"Don't know about the other bit, though."
He didn't like the look in her eye; the look of someone knowing something he didn't. His mouth went dry.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Might be more convincing if your associate hadn't mentioned a talking skull. Awfully difficult to contain a visitor without a ghost jar, wouldn't you say?"
He swore under his breath. "Fucking Lockwood can't keep his mouth shut."
"I don't expect DEPRAC takes kindly to thieves or hooligans-"
He let out a bark of laughter. "Hooligan? Me?"
"-or strange boys who break into places they shouldn't be-"
"You can't prove it was me."
"Wanna bet?"
A challenge. A dare. His mouth was already open to call her bluff when the self-satisfied smirk curling at the corner of her lip gave him pause. Lockwood wouldn't be much pleased if he gave DEPRAC another reason to steer the agency dangerously close towards closing. He wasn't like Lockwood or Lucy - he was careful, very careful. Too late George wished he had been a little more careful all those years ago in covering his tracks - but, to be fair, he had no reason to think anyone at Fittes would have been capable enough to put two and two together.
Until now.
"Look, why don't we...talk about this, like civilised people? I've got strawb - you like strawberries and cream, don't you?"
She sneered again. George was beginning to think that was just how her face looked.
"You want to bribe me with...strawberries...and cream?"
"It's not bribery. Just...a friendly chat. Agent to agent."
Which was how they ended up on a grassy hill at one of the meadows at the outskirts of London. He had never been there before, but Lockwood had remembered it as a prime spot for cosy family picnics.
"So what else do you know about me?"
She chewed a bite of scrambled eggs thoughtfully before responding.
"You're obsessed with the Problem. An obsession that made you an asset, initially."
She had heard that he was the one who had identified the visitor, Edmund Bickerstaff, but what she had had difficulty wrapping her head around was how he had managed to do it with only the vast yet imprecise volumes of the Archives at his disposal. Imagine what he could do with the carefully curated library at Fittes. She stared at him, trying to figure him out. There was a gentle breeze blowing and the slight movement made him look marginally more affable but not any more comprehensible. She let out the breath she was holding.
"You must have really screwed up for Fittes to have let you go."
He shrugged. "It was a long time coming. Fittes never really was the type of company I was interested in working at, and I was never the type of employee Fittes was interested in keeping."
"What about now? Have you ever considered leaving?"
"Why would I?"
"I've taken a glance at Lockwood & Co's financial records. You can't be making much, if anything at all."
"And go from being broke to being broke and homeless?"
"Homeless? What about your parents?"
"I visit them, occasionally, but they're a right piece of work. Last time I saw them was my grandmother's 77th birthday. I think there was a row but I can't be completely sure because I was a little, er, sloshed. The party ended, and I expect the champagne went flat, and my aunt was the last to leave. She was sitting on the floor with a merlot in her hand, and her voice was ringing through the halls. The curtains were burnt, my parents didn't talk to each other for a week, and one of my brothers had broken his hand. But I could never forget sitting in that empty dining hall, holding those sodden, scorched curtains, listening to her saying nothing lasts forever, nothing lasts forever."
The sunlight had a diffused quality to it, at least the little of it that managed to pour through the layer of clouds blocking the sky. The ashy light threw a powdery glow on George's face, and for a moment she felt as though she was in that dining hall with him, listening to those same laments. He glanced at her, and she felt a sudden, foreign uncertainty grip her heart.
"Now I feel really bad about lying."
His hand slipped, missing his mouth by a good couple of inches, nearly sending the contents of his glass down his shirt.
"Lie? What lie?"
"I kind of haven't, not really...actually spoken to any of your associates."
He chokes on his laughter, and when he throws his head back she wonders if she's ever seen anyone laugh as freely as him. It's a ridiculously enticing sight.
"Touché. Touché."
He looks at her in the eye, unabashed, with an unnaturally casual intensity. It almost feels impolite.
"So...yeah. Maybe I was suited to be a Fittes agent, once upon a time, but not anymore."
"That's a pity."
He looks at her weird, and she hastily changes the subject.
"Do you do this often?"
"What, taking strangers out for breakfast?"
"No. Bring a girl out here, feed her some strawberries and cream, maybe a Shakespearean sonnet or two..."
"I don't set much store in Shakespearean sonnets. I'm not...I'm not much of a poetry person."
There's something reserved in his face that makes her feel terrible for asking.
"I've really only read one worth remembering. Subtle bridges, you said, on bridges some men hang. Some ties won't give. I sometimes dream of you, and walking, in gardens where love and knowledge hang."
He bites into a strawberry, which stains his lips a bright red. She looks away a second too late.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After reluctantly agreeing to keep the matter of the stolen ghost jar between the two of them, she never expected to see him again. And yet, as fate would have it, they crossed paths again roughly a week later. She and one of her teammates had been assigned to a Church to handle a relatively weak Type Two, when she heard a scuffling sound from one of the rooms whose door was ajar. Her teammate froze, and she didn't feel much braver either. They approached the room cautiously, rapiers at the ready.
"Hello? Anyone there?"
"Y/N?"
The glare from their flashlights blindly darted over the room before it settled on the floor, illuminating a bleeding George looking the worse for wear, hissing at the harsh florescent light.. She visibly relaxed.
"Oh. You again."
Lockwood and Lucy exchanged a look.
"Do you two know each other?"
A silence followed. George looked to be at a loss of words and she, too, couldn't quite find the right answer.
"We've...met."
They helped George up while Lockwood smoothly explained the situation, and how they would never dream of intentionally From the derisive eye rolls of his remaining, uninjured associate, there was clearly more to their presence than he was letting on, but she wasn't paid nearly enough to go through the trouble of finding that out. Apparently, they had already dealt with the Type Two, so she filled out her report as vague as she dared to be, while they wandered out to flag down a cab.
George lingered behind briefly, dabbing at his nose experimentally while she put the finishing touches to her file.
"We can't keep meeting like this, you know."
"Like what?"
She shook her head, surprisingly having to bite back a smile. "You're incorrigible. If you keep sneaking around for much longer I'll have to report you one of these days."
He pulled his face into an exaggerated sulk and ducked as she tried to smack him with her case report.
"Alright, alright!"
True to his word, their less-than-ideal meetings came to an end. Instead, they continued to occasionally meet at that serene, refreshingly Edenic sloping hill. She'd return from a client meeting or from scoping out a location and the front desk would have a message waiting for her, from one vaguely snippy anonymous man. Sometimes he'd be waiting at the hill with snacks, which she'd ravenously dig into, though he was less generous on the biscuit front. He tells her about the happenings of 35 Portland Row and his research and bounces his latest theory on the origins of the Problem off of her. She tells him about her week, and the bothersome, inept people she works with, and on their joint cases he's snarky towards all the right people. It makes her feel special.
On one such evening, they were lazing on a picnic blanket, and a pleasantly warm breeze was toying with their hair. George was looking at the severe, fragile branches encroaching on the powdery blue sky through heavily-lidded eyes. She was absent-mindedly fiddling with his surprisingly soft fingers, distractedly breathing in the faint, antiseptic smell of ammonia that clung to his clothes. She was thinking about how sharp he was and how quickly he picked up on details on their joint cases. No matter how many times she saw him pick apart a case with a carefully perfected elegance, she felt like a part of her would forever be in awe of his beautifully intricate mind.
"Sometimes I feel like your talents are so wasted here. Imagine what you could do with access to all of Fittes' resources."
"i don't need Fittes's resources to be a good researcher."
She watches the yellow daffodils tossing their heads back just inches in front of them through her eyelashes.
"i know you don't. It can't hurt, is all I'm saying."
"Why do you care?"
She paused. Why did she care? She cared about him, sure, but it was no different from how she cared about her teammates, her friends, but with George...it somehow felt more personal. She sighs irritably, releasing the bubble of frustration lodged in her throat all week. She just wanted what was best for him. It takes her a minute to come up with her hesitant response.
"I...don't know. I don't care. But sometimes I can't help but wonder...what if this was what you needed to uncover the root of the Problem?"
He half-laughs, but stops short at the sight of her face as she lifts her head off his chest. "You can't be serious."
"Why not?"
"Y/N...statistically speaking -"
"All I'm saying is the answer could very well be in the Fittes library and you might be the only one who'd know where to look."
She lies down again, and whispers to the trees rather than George.
"Just...something to think about."
As time went on, their relationship began to bleed into more public spheres. She dropped by Portland Row occasionally, and they even had tea at her apartment once. On this particular afternoon, they were in George's room at Portland Row. She was looking through the titles on his alarmingly tall bookcases while he was at his desk, copying some runes from a book while telling her about his latest experiment with the skull. Her eyes roved over the titles restlessly, unseeingly, in a futile attempt to distract herself from her upcoming assignment. She let George's voice wash over her, pleasingly varied in tone and comfortingly familiar, soothing the itch in her brain. After a moment or two, she realises he's stopped talking, and looks up to see him staring at her with a frown on his face.
"Er, sorry. Drifted off there for a while."
"I guessed."
He studies her with an inscrutable expression and she's been caught too off-guard to come up with anything other than the letter burning a hole in her desk.
"You alright?"
She sits on a chair next to his and rests her chin on her knee, feeling oddly wooden. After getting to know George, she had taken the comfort of being able to somewhat predict his mannerisms for granted, and the thought of heading into this blind made her nervous.
"My team's been assigned a case outside of London."
"Oh. When?"
"We leave this weekend."
He looks too stunned to ask the question weighing on both their minds.
"It's for a month."
"A month," he echoes distantly, as if not quite sure what to make of that piece of information. His face remains impassive and she waits for a reaction which never comes. "What about that celebratory dinner?"
"We leave after it."
"Oh."
For someone who usually always had so much to say about anything and everything, his current conversational skills were desperately wanting. Say something. Be affected, she begs internally. She needs to hear him say it. She needs the sickness in her chest to be real, to be founded.
"It'll be...different without you." The careful look on his face makes her feel like he's picking out her emotions from her face and engineering an optimal response. "I'll miss you."
It doesn't comfort her in the way she expected it would. Suddenly, she can't even bear to look at him.
"You don't have to."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Either George had decided that she needed some space or he was just as pissed as she was, because she didn't see one sign of him over the next few days. Good. She hardly noticed. The thousand times a day he crossed her mind were only out of relief, and nothing else. But as much as she pretended otherwise, by the time the celebratory dinner rolled around, his absence had taken a toll on her. She couldn't tell if she was hoping or dreading seeing him again.
She was on a balcony on the upper floor, looking miserably into the radiant foliage of the gardens below, where unfamiliar faces flitted with a lightness of heart she envied. Their shadows are tall and intertwine ceaselessly, making her dizzy. Her bags were packed, her ticket was waiting on her mantle, and all loose ends were tied up. Even her one chance at happiness for the rest of her life.
There's a rustle behind her and she turns to see George standing a considerable distance away from her. He's only marginally closer than the first time they met, properly, when he was standing outside their front door and she was pacing behind the garden gate. She wants to cry in relief. Instead, she finds it in her not to look away. Maybe it's the confusing lighting, but there's a soft edge to his face.
"I thought I saw you come up here."
She doesn't say anything; she's too happy to. And yet, a part of her is still deeply unhappy with the sight in front of her.
"Have you...tried the food?"
"...it's not as good as yours."
"You must be leaving soon."
"Tomorrow." The thought makes her want to rip her face off.
"You'll be back in a month."
She drummed her fingernails against the marble railing, carefully choosing her words.
"What if things change in a month?" What if, she wanted to say, you meet someone else who loves you better than I can?
"It's only a month."
"A whole month."
"I don't understand. Why are you so afraid?"
"Because - because you'd forget me. You'd forget me, and our memories would sink six feet under, and you'd move on and my heart would break and...you wouldn't care."
She's never felt this way about anyone before, and she doesn't know how to express how badly she needs him to stay.
"I don't want to go back to not knowing you, George."
The setting sun burns into her neck and all of a sudden, she feels unbearably hot. Her hair is plastered to her forehead and her hands feel clammy. Her face is flushed and she feels ridiculous in her dress. But he's here, and she's said it, so she lets herself dream, if only for a moment.q
"I think about you every day. One month, two months, three months...I'll wait."

How do you think the parent-teacher conference would go?
okay yes I have been thinking about this since i originally thought of this au
(Also, quick psa- these are never proofread, so if they are incoherent/ littered with spelling errors...shhh)
I can see matty getting the email through about parents evening and just PRAYING it's with you. Annie has two teachers (bc fuck having a class of 30 kids on your own are you mad) and he thought it might be with the other one. who is fine, she's an older woman and is very lovely... she's just not you
little does he know behind the scenes you had to kind of fudge things to get him for parents evening, your deputy head teacher comes up one day and tells you the plan for parents evening this year, he explains youre only getting half the class. so rather than doing it with your co-teacher, you'd do half and she'd do half. of course, you immediately ask, "Oh... okay, can I see my list?"
you read it and feel your heart drop, Annie wasn't on there. and you swear it's not just because you want an excuse to sit across from matty for 20 mins... you also genuinely love Annie and would love to talk about her and her progress.
you catch the other teacher in the staff room and have a quick chat, "Mrs Richards, do you think we could go over the parent's evening lists? I was just wondering if there's any students that you don't have that you might like?"
"Oh yes dear, let's have a look," she says, grabbing your list, "Ah yes, if it's okay with you, I'd quite like to see Jason's mum and dad. After the paper aeroplane incident last week, I think I need to have a proper discussion with them"
you scream internally, thankful you won't have to have that conversation, and that you might be able to snag Annie, "Oh yes, that's fine with me! why don't we swap for say... Annie Healy?" You say trying to play it off and act like you didn't already have a child in mind when you started this conversation.
luckily, Mrs Richards is completely oblivious to your crush (that you insist is not a crush) and says, "Of course dear, consider it done. I'll send all the emails tonight"
////
cut to actual parents evening and you are wearing your favourite dress. well, favourite appropriate dress. it's nothing much, floral and flowy, but it just works, and you love it.
and you totally did not try on every combination of dresses and shoes that you own to find the perfect one. at 3am.
you definitely did not do that because that would be insane...
anyway, you just finished your appointment with Lucy's parents, and it all went well. You did have to have a discussion about her habit of punching her male peers in... certain places, but it went down surprisingly well.
you completely forget who your next appointment is until you stick your head out of the door and see matty standing with a cig in the corner. for a good few seconds, you just stand and stare, enamoured by the glow of the cigarette lighting up his features. and the way his cheeks hollow as he takes a drag.
matty finally spots you and waves, dropping his cig and crushing it before rushing to meet you. you take a deep breath and straighten up, trying not to die from nerves before this meeting.
"matty! hi! come in, come in, " you say, waving him in. Neither of you notice the receptionist raising her eyebrows at you, calling him matty. she makes a mental note to talk (tease) to you about it later.
he comes in and sits down, and for the first 10 mins, it's a completely normal meeting. You discuss how Annie is doing, how she's interacting with her peers, and what progress she is making.
obviously, googly eyes are being thrown both ways, but you are both beautifully oblivious.
but soon somehow, you both get completely off topic.
"you've never seen true romance! oh love, that wounds me, " matty says, holding a hand to his chest in faux hurt.
you giggle lightly at his reaction, brushing over the pet name so you don't have a mental breakdown over it in front of him.
"I know! I know! it's been on my list for years but I've never got around to it, is it one of your favourites?"
matty then of course goes on a 5 minute rant about how amazing the film is and what it means to him, "I mean I wrote one of our most popular songs about it, as soon as I wrote it at 18 I knew it would be such an important song. to me. to the band. even to our non-existent fans at the time. well, our one fan, my dad"
you smile at him just in awe of his passion for that band, "Oh yeah, robbers, right?" You say shyly, trying not to show the intensity of the stalking you did.
matty just stops and looks at you, his face a mix of cockiness and pure adoration, "Yeah yeah, you been listening to my band?" he teases and pokes at your arm. Soon, his hand slips down and lightly rests on yours as you speak.
you just nod dumbly because how can you focus on what he just said whilst he's practically holding your hand?? thankfully, you catch yourself reasonably quickly and realise just nodding is not the appropriate reaction to what he just said.
you don't know what comes over you, maybe it's his hand on yours, the soft look in his eyes or the gentle smile on his face but you decide to just be honest.
"Honestly?" You say, and matty nods softly, eyes flittering around your face (perhaps even down to your lips) , "I didn't know who you were before, but now? I am a little bit obsessed. I listened to you on the drive-in this morning, " you say whilst avoiding eye contact.
"No way," he says, laughing to himself. He squeezes your hand to encourage your eyes up, and you give in and make eye contact, "what's your favourite song? you've got to tell me that"
"well i-" Of course, before you can finish, there's a harsh knock on the door. you both jump and separate hastily as you spring up and get it.
before you can say anything, the person behind the door starts talking, "Hi, we're Jackson's parents, are you miss y/n? I thought our appointment was at 6. it's 10 past, and I'm kind of in a rush"
you start stuttering out apologies, and matty is already behind you preparing to leave. He quickly grabs your hand and squeezes it as he brushes past.
you squeeze his to grab his attention, "paris. my favourite song is paris", you let go and usher the other parents in. they squeeze past a frozen matty, just standing and gazing at you.
soon you are closing the door to mattys shocked face, giving him one last grin before clicking it shut.
(paris is not my fav song, but it's matty's, so we gotta have a bit of romance)

Sigma and Lucy and their connection to Atsushi (+the pattern with people Atsushi wants to help and how Sigma falls into it)
(Or how they all fall into it, and quite literally fall since for some reason there's a repeated pattern of important moments between Kyouka, Lucy and Sigma when it comes to Atsushi and one or both of them falling or jumping from a high ledge)
I've never been able to stop thinking about this so I'm finally making a post on this.
I'm gonna mainly compare chapter 28 and chapter 76, and the events surrounding these chapters that take place on the same day as them and in relation to them.
The chapters show us more on a member of the enemy terrorist organisation that the ADA are currently up against. In the chapter (or around this chapter for Sigma), we see the backstory of a member and bit of their ideology.
This character started out life with no family and no home, being used and abused in their early years.
It's noted that their backstory is similar to Atsushi's, and that they are actually very similar to him.
Tumblr media
The character loses their home in this chapter (or implied in this chapter for Lucy), and the only family they had that they desperately clung onto and fought for. Even if it wasn't a proper family, it was all they had. They'd been alone their whole lives and didn't want to be alone again.
The home and family in question are on a floating structure in the sky. This is also where the chapter takes place.
Tumblr media
Atsushi says something to this character that affects them. The character ends up helping him just before the two part ways.
Tumblr media
This is the last look they give Atsushi before they leave eachother
Tumblr media
The character and Atsushi leave eachother by one of them falling. For Chapter 28 it's Atsushi who jumps off leaving Lucy, and they leave with a hopeful interaction of them meeting again. For Chapter 76, it's Sigma who falls leaving Atsushi, with a less hopeful interaction of Atsushi believing Sigma is dead and Sigma letting go believing he would die.
Tumblr media
Notably in this chapter, right after Sigma falls Lucy shows up. The last ex-terrorist now friend/ally to Atsushi. And in opposition to both Chapter 28 (where Atsushi jumped away from her) and the scene that just happened (with Atsushi failing to save an enemy) she jumps off a high ledge TOWARDS Atsushi to save him. Lucy was where Sigma currently is, and both her and her bond with Atsushi have grown a lot since then, and this could also be the future for Sigma.
Tumblr media
There is a promise for Atsushi to save this character. Unfortunately, he doesn't end up saving them. They also get taken again by their organisation, no longer by any will of their own.
Tumblr media
Chapter 76 including these three with notable moments definitely feels to me like a comparison of Lucy and Sigma and their relationship with Atsushi. Sigma's situation is very similar to Lucy's as I've previously shown. Terrorists that have recently suffered loss in regards to their found home and family, that get a connection with Atsushi in this chapter. Unlike with Lucy, Sigma and Atsushi left eachother without hope of seeing the other again or Atsushi being able to help them (for the characters, the story itself does give hope of this happening). Then Lucy shows up, as a reminder of the last enemy he helped that DID turn out OK, and to show how far Lucy has come since then, since she was where Sigma is. It shows that hope might not be lost for Sigma either.
With it already being established that Sigma now wants to become an ADA member, the possibility of seeing Sigma grow like Lucy did and develop a bond with Atsushi like she did gets closer to being canon. There's something there and I'm really looking forward to seeing how Sigma's character could possibly develop after this arc (and when he wakes up because my guy is likely in a coma rn 😔)
The Pattern
I've stated that Lucy being in chapter 76 is important to show the connection Sigma could eventually have with Atsushi, but even though she's not in that chapter it's also important to note Kyouka. In the sky Casino mission to retrieve Sigma, where Sigma and Atsushi meet for the first time, it was specifically Lucy and Kyouka who went with Atsushi.
For both Lucy and Kyouka, there were three notable incidents with Atsushi until they become allied with the ADA permanently.
Kyouka:
- Atsushi saving her from the train
- Atsushi saving her from Akutagawa
- Kyouka escaping the Guild and becoming an official ADA member
Lucy:
- Atsushi beating Lucy
- Atsushi and Lucy's talk on the Whale
- Atsushi and Lucy's meeting in the cafe
The pattern here was there being a first meeting where Atsushi is shown wanting to help the character even though they're an enemy that he just thought against and a terrorist.
The next incident takes place a while after the first and is a pivotal point where its made certain in the story that things will turn out OK for the enemy character. A bond is set between them and Atsushi. -------------------------- After the second incident, things in fact do not turn out OK for the character and the audience was actually led into a false security. Kouyou shows up after to try and take back Kyouka, and the Guild kidnaps Lucy from her room before Atsushi can 'come back and save her'. Now the character is in danger again and their fate is once again up in the air, only now there's more at stake since a bond with Atsushi has already been established and the audience has been given the chance to grow attached to them. Whether or not this character will be able to join 'the side of the light' and have a home and family like they wanted is uncertain again
It's the third incident that sets into stone again that the character does in fact turn out OK. They reunite with Atsushi, and they finally get to live a good life with a home and the freedom to live how they wished to. The character is now connected with the ADA and after this point in the story, no matter what happens to the character their place in the light is never thrown into question again, they belong here.
So I believe this could happen with Sigma. He doesn't follow the exact same process, considering that Sigma is also being helped by Dazai, and could be grouped with Atsushi as someone Dazai saved, but chapter 76 still follows the pattern well enough that I believe this could happen.
We've already had our first incident with their meeting. Despite me comparing this chapter to Lucy and Atsushi's second meeting, for Sigma and Atsushi this still fits into the territory of the first part of the pattern.
(Intetesting note: Unlike with Lucy and Kyouka, after it was established that Atsushi wanted to help the enemy, this was the first time where Atsushi 'failed' to. He jumped from the train with Kyouka, he jumped off the Whale after promising to come back for Lucy, but at the sky Casino it was Sigma who fell instead, and Atsushi stayed thinking that he just saw the last of a now dead man that he failed to help. Then again, it could just be following the pattern and we'll see a more hopeful outcome with their second meeting)
The second incident will likely be them meeting again. It will end more hopefully, with a further bond between Atsushi and Sigma and more hope for Sigma joining the ADA.
If we then follow the pattern, something bad will happen to Sigma to throw this off course, and put into question whether he'll actually be able to join the ADA and get a home.
This will last for some time, until the third part eventually comes where Sigma finally gets to stay with his new home and new life. After this, it should be permanent to the story and Sigma shouldn't have his status as an ADA member/ally put into question or at risk again.

I'm sure I'll post more TSS, but for now, have some Shel thoughts on TWS (featuring the British editions, because why deal with the silly American ones, when you can have 3 versions of the books - digital, US paperbacks and English paperbacks? Stroud, you're welcome ◡̈ )
(Clearly, I had trouble prioritizing what passages to pick, and the last one is prime example of how not to highlight, since I underlined the entire page.)
I love these scenes though, because as I've mentioned before, we know that Lockwood and Lucy liked each other very early on, but I think this is one of the first instances we see Lockwood wrestling with his feelings and backing down from them as a result. @dangerously-human posted a brilliant analysis on Lucy's denial of her feelings for Lockwood, and here we see Lockwood grappling with the same denial and ultimately forcing himself to refocus on the mission, as a result. (Side note: When Lucy tells Lockwood they're so similar in the beginning of TEG, it's like yeah, you two are both idiots.)
I get it—Lockwood has lost everyone he's loved, so any feeling close to that, he's going to push back on, because to love someone might mean he'll lose that someone. Isn't that what life has taught him (and yet!! the wonderful miracle of Lockwood is that he just keeps on loving... kind of like my dear ol' boy Harry Potter)?
He legit knows Lucy is watching here, and he's totally showing off for her. When has he ever demonstrated a move like this to George? No, Lockwood is totally flirting with Lucy during this scene.
But then, Fittes comes up. We get a reminder that this isn't any world, despite how immune our heroes seem to be to its horrors sometimes. Lockwood recognizes that ultimately every agent is just a kid risking their life. This is important, because while Lockwood is certainly starting to blur the lines with Lucy, at the end of the photos I've taken, he pulls back. Why? The mission.
He's a kid with a horrible past. In TEG, he mentions that it seemed random—his parents, Jessica— but it wasn't. Up until now, it almost borders on revenge. Obsession. He doesn't have hobbies. He refuses to dwell on the past. He spins and thinks and strategizes about the next case, and then the one after that. He has no sympathy for ghosts. He wants to end them—all that matters is the mission, for the pain it's caused him, for some of the emptiness it's left him.
But then there's Lucy. He gets sidetracked. We even have George noting here that he's surprised that Lockwood has already told Lucy this much. And yet, he still holds back. We don't know who beat him at the Fittes tournament, and he doesn't tell Lucy until TEG.
He's completely in denial here, and even though we see him open up slowly, he still always orients back to the goal at hand, as he continues to struggle with his feelings for Lucy. And so consistently, he refocuses and pushes them aside.
Until we see that he can't after Lucy leaves—how wrecked he was without her. And it isn't really until this point that he truly, really starts to open himself up to her—not his past, not his thoughts as a leader, but himself and how he feels about her.
He takes her to his families graves in TEG, and if that's not a sign of vulnerability, trust, and faith, then I don't what is.
But what I find the most interesting? We don't get that Flo backstory from Lockwood until much later, after the graveyard. Huh. And it comes after Lockwood realizes that his parents didn't die in a random car crash—almost like his life wasn't random at all.
I actually think it's kind of huge that Lockwood saves this last piece of information for last. Because it's a funny story that's meant to cheer Lucy up. Defeating Marissa is important, but it's no longer about the mission at this point. Not really, not anymore. He's found peace with that. It's about Lucy, and I think, in this moment, he fully and 100% accepts his feelings towards her.
Yes, you can argue it happened when he tried to give her the necklace the first time, and it was Kipps who interrupted them, and blah blah blah. But Lockwood could have found a way to give Lucy the necklace again before the attack on PR. But he didn't.
And isn't it interesting that the undying devotion necklace is something still tied to his family? But the Flo story and how she beat Lockwood? Nah, that's all Lockwood, and it's something of him—without the weighty ties to his family, still somehow so wrapped up in the Problem—that he shares with Lucy. And it's this innocent moment, this moment of joy, that's so inherently pure and lovely, and largely unrelated to the bigger threat, that sigh, my heart. This to me, this is the moment. And all these other moments, I've highlighted above set us up for this.

Supernatural season 14
Oh boy!
So Alt-Michael has taken over Dean’s body and absconded to parts unknown - what an unprecedented plot twist who could’ve possibly seen this coming, certainly not Dean, the one guy who doesn’t trust angels and has a history of being short-sighted & making shitty deals.
Since this is season 14, and there’s only 1 more season after this, I presume Dean will never grow out of these bad qualities 🤦🏾‍♀️, so…moving on.
Check you out Sam, leading your new band of hunters, like some sort of Hunters Incorporated©️. I’m glad Sam gets to spend more time with his mom, but he won’t let her take care of him 😔😭
Tumblr media
Was it me or did that Michael & Anael scene feel like Jensen x Danneel role play 🤣 - at least when he caressed her face. Like really bro? I don’t think the scene would’ve played out that way if the actors weren’t actual husband and wife 🤣
Shoutout to Supernatural for keeping Mark Pellegrino employed lol 😂😂 cuz I don’t see Why the fuck he’s still around if the devil is supposedly dead - wasn’t Mark P. also doing 13 reasons why around this time?? Anywho, Nick, luci’s longtime vessel, isn’t dead???? What does Nick have that jimmy novak didn’t (or literally any other angel vessel for that matter) — plot convenience? That must be it 🤣🤣🤣
Cas honey, why are you letting these demons beat you up? Cuz Dean is gone on your watch? cuz im sorry there’s no way im believing Cas was weaker than all them demons. That’s also plot convenience IDGAF!
Tumblr media
After yet another demon-hunter showdown, Mary and Bobby are spotted sharing a beer & flirting…I wish John were around to see this AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Oh Jack, poor guy feels worthless for having no power. He should’ve been like ‘Castiel what’s it like being worthless?’ since that was Castiel’s arc for a minute too, which again fuck Supernatural for. Cas had like 1 badass moment last season when he fried Donatello’s brains but that’s it. Meanwhile Nick totally called Cas out, bringing up Jimmy again and driving that guilt straight into Castiel.
Alt-Michael is recruiting?? Brief Dean cameo in 14x02, you give him like 2 lines, wow 😒. Even Sam got more screen time in 5x22 swan song…but Dean suddenly comes back at the end of the episode???? Nah, bullshit!
Also lol karma for Dean in 14x02 when Jack is like, ‘Dean doesn’t matter’, Michael has to be stopped. Ahahahahahahaha. He was the so called pragmatist when it came to Jack, now it’s Jack’s turn. Castiel’s face when jack said it tho…
Dean got stabbed by AU Kaia? What?? Oh look yet another instance of Dean running away from his problems and pain and being a dick to Kaia (though she's technically a different person) again! Good for you tho AU Kaia for giving Dean a taste of his own medicine and telling him off.
Bobby leave Sam alone, I’m here for his captain my captain era. The lovable giant is doing his best!
So some necromancer gets away from Jack & Dean but we’re not gonna see her again, right??? There’s just a little over 30 episodes left in the show at this point. They probably didn’t know that at the time though.
Shoutout to the devil for basically condemning his child to die from a lack of grace :/ while Cas was able to survive (cuz plot convenience most likely) Jack as a nephilim was unable to do so. Gabe’s spare angel grace couldn’t help (I wonder if he were still alive in canon, if it would’ve made a difference. Oh well).
Tumblr media
So this is where Cas made the deal with the empty (yes I know about it, how doesn’t everyone that shit went viral the very night it originally aired amidst the infamous nail-biting 2020 election week), tumblr is still serving the memes to this day.
Cas doesn’t want the Winchesters to know cuz Dean 😭 idc, if I was Jack I would NOT keep that secret. Dean would know IMMEDIATELY.
I think more angels died, but heaven hasn’t fallen yet…right? They keep coming back to that. Hm…
Nick’s arc is…bleh. Pretty sure in his desperation he just brought Luci back from the empty…welp. I guess when you’re an archangel who was predestined by God to fight in a fateful epic battle against your big bro, you just get certain perks in the afterlife 😒
Sam doesn’t want Alt-Charlie to go when its like bro! She. Is. Not. Charlie!!! For fuck sake guys SMH, let her live her fucking life! God forbid she want to run away to fucking safety and not die bloody like her counterpart 🤬
Bobby and Mary run off to a cabin for weeks on end 😏😂 to recuperate, sure Mary 🤣
Garth is back! Working as a spy for the Winchesters, oh dear Lord no. I know he makes it to season 15 but maaaan I don't like this….
The nerve of Dean to challenge Alt-Kaia to either hand over the weapon or kill her. What if she just killed him? Also, can't they just replicate the weapon for their own uses? All they would need to do is ensure they're using the same materials Kaia did when she forged the weapon in her own world.
How many hits to the head is Sam supposed to fuckin' take? I feel like it's happened more in this season alone than the entire show so far? He should probably be dead at this point 🤣
Jack got taken, oh no! why didn't Michael kill him? To take him as a ward? Seriously? Whatever.
And it turns out the past episode was a long con to get Dean right where Alt-Michael wanted him. I know there was a catch to him letting Dean go in 14x02.
So Alt-Michael chose to trap Dean in…contentment? With Pamela Barnes? And they weren't even a couple, just friends. She called him out on something.
Tumblr media
Why not have him be with a real girlfriend of his, like Lisa or even Cassie? I’m supposed to believe Dean's dream is an unsuccessful bar living out his days with a platonic lady friend??? Really??? Bullshit!
Tumblr media
John returns for the final time to go back to 2003? Okay. His hair is cut and grayish. Lol so I’m gonna see that as John gained some weight (from food/drink or muscle training idc) and dyes his hair black but the root are grey and come out every so often 🤣 but yay JDM I wish you had been in more episodes! Oh well.
So no one’s gonna talk about:
a) Adam’s existence
b) Bobby X Mary or how Bobby essentially replaced john as the father/husband by getting involved with Mary AND being a surrogate father to Sam & Dean (with a clear preference to Dean but whatever)
I’d care more about Sam & John’s convo if we had more time with them together on screen. But it was nice to see them squash their beef.
Dean & John’s convo was faaaar too brief. But insightful to their relationship. John wanted dean to have a family, echoing his wishes for his eldest in season 1 in his convo w/ Sam.
But Dean was like I have a family 🥺 my emotions!
Back to the Michael bullshit – a fight with a gorgon fucked up his containment so he literally broke out of Dean's body and killed all the hunters who were conveniently at the bunker when they brought an unconscious Dean back there. Even poor unfortunate Maggie. For a second I thought Mary would be there since Maggie mentioned she was on her way back but no, he ended up possessing Rowena.
Then they bring the old angel torture device of disabling our heroes' ability to breathe, like in the season 5 premiere, making them blind (that's new) and making them hurt.
Jack gets his chance to take Michael down, and takes his grace??????
Oh Sam bby, it's not your fault. Those people were doomed no matter what. TBH I'm surprised they lasted this long. But cuz he's a Winchester and he was raised by Dean & they've rubbed off each other too much at this point (nobromo), he decides to focus on yet another case even when Dean himself isn't willing since big bro has pointed out they have done 3 cases back to back. They're not the young men they used to be lol.
Cas goes with Sam to a milkshake town and given his legendary levels of awkwardness he's immediately seen and called out for his inherent queerness by the townsfolk (in all senses of the word).
Aw Sam wants to stay, ofc he does. This town is simple and peaceful. He could use some of that. Too bad this place is making people's heads explode.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Ah subtle there Supernatural, making Jack, a Nephilim who's the offspring of the devil himself choose between angel and devil food cake 🤣 Dean why would you put him in that position?
Cas why you gotta be snitching on Sam to your boy bestie like that 🤣 – typical boyfriend tomfoolery
Oftentimes since Jack started in this show, he's felt like an intern and 14x16 is one of those times. They don't wanna bring jack along so they think to leave him alone doing chores. Good Lord.
Oh honey Sam you didn't have to tell the sheriff you're not FBI, just stick to the monster stuff. He knows what's up.
And Jack sweetie pie you don't need to impress those kids. He should be hanging out with kids his own age. Just Jack with a bunch of babies 🤣. So cute! My headcanon is that he can actually talk to them. At least then it wouldn't have ended with a stabbing. Thankfully he cleaned up his mess, even though the local kids are terrified of him. It’s a shame he doesn’t have friends. If only he was allowed to have Claire in his life.
They finally resolved the Nick storyline (I hope) by killing him off via Jack but Mary is not happy. She’s concerned. She’s been concerned about him the whole frickin episode since he sassed her as they tried setting up a game night with Dean.
It’s like these people keep forgetting what Jack is capable of.
He didn’t have to relish the kill though. On the other hand, it felt like Mary’s concern was a bit much — if it were me I would’ve kept my mouth shut as to not upset a powerful fledging being into killing me by accident.
Tumblr media
So Mary dies…again.
This is also why we can’t have nice things. I know Dean’s never gonna let this shit go. Sure Cas has fucked up a bunch, but killing a direct blood relative of Dean’s…nope. That’s unforgivable. I know they’re not gonna let Dean kill off a kid but I know he’s NEVER ever gonna forget Jack’s role in Mary’s (second) demise.
Why couldn’t you leave the boy alone Mary?!?!?!!?!
The boys show up, did they not circle back to pick up their mother? Seriously? Goodness Lord. So depressing watching the brothers just assuming their mommy’s coming back 😭
Cas (cuz of course this shit went tits up while Daddy was away) calls Dean to get caught up on what happened the last episode and is concerned that the Winchesters left their mom alone with Jack. Then why did you leave him Cas? You could’ve taken him with you. Like it would’ve been better if one of the brothers was alone with Jack? Badasses they may be, but they would’ve ended up just like Mary let’s be honest. The only difference would’ve been whichever brother got got would’ve come back. Mary will not be getting that special treatment…
Jack is tripping out since he murdered his foster G-maw - ends up flying all over the world (so his soul is definitely gone? But if it were gone, would he even care about killing Mary? everyone’s trying to track him down IDK why he doesn’t just destroy the phone he has. We get flashes of Mary & Jack’s time together and technically I believe she spent the most time with him (at least in season 13)
They’re still giving Mark P work on this show making him the manifestation of Jack’s subconscious cuz the kill is driving Jack insane 😭🥺 He’s reacting so much like a little boy who knows he fucked up it that makes this so much sadder 😭 Jack’s being driven mad with grief.
Tumblr media
Oh fuck they’re going to where she died. Oh fuck.
WTF is wrong with these people! He’s a fucking boy! A super power nuke of a boy, but still a fucking boy! Like the Winchesters never made a mistake! What about the nurse who got killed in 4x22 by Sam? All the people Dean slaughtered under the MoC, as a demon! That’s just off the top of my head! No but cuz they’re the fucking protagonists 😡🤬
Samuel Winchester you know manipulating this child Is 5 different kinds of fucked up!
Jack why did you call it an accident! Did you not want to use the words murder? Destroyed? Obliterated?
Dean you piece of shit, why are you lying to this boy!!!!!! You know Jack’s desperate to make peace with you, and you lead him to a grave he’s never supposed to escape?! Poor thing Jack was sooo scared!
Sam, the regret is gonna eat you alive! Sam, for fucks sake, SPEAK THE FUCK UP! You clearly got shit you wanna say, fucking say it!
Dean you’re surprised Jack’s going along with it?! Of course he’s gonna go along with it, he wants to please you, you shady, manipulative BASTARD!
That’s right Castiel stand up for Jack since nobody else is willing to!
Oh boy, the celestial boy is freaking out. Claustrophobia was kicking in, this shit ain’t gonna end well. It’s a dark day when a psychological manifestation of Satan is making sense more than everyone else.
Tumblr media
I’m not surprised Jack got out though. That box was made for an archangel and he isn’t that. He’s a nephilim, technically a different entity, right? now, the Winchesters have a pissed off mega-powerful creature on their hands. Great job team 🤣
that’s right Jack, give them a piece of your fucking mind! Fuck ‘em up queen.
Oh shit! I’ve watched this part a dozen times on YouTube, the part where jack makes the whole world tell the truth no matter what! Donald trump is canonically Crowley’s bitch! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Tumblr media
All hail the stapler queen! Iconic!
And God reveals Himself, what grand timing! He says He came for Cas’s prayer (but Cas prayed to Him in season 6 too, no?) but then He states the real reason for His arrival — Jack.
Meanwhile Jack went to see his real G-maw, not a good plan Jackie boy. She’s put 2+2 together that her daughter Kelly is NOT ok and now Jack has to confess the truth. (Where’s the dad? Was the actor unavailable or dead at this point?)
Sam was outed to love Celine Dion (I love her two Sammy it’s ok, her songs are AMAZING! My favorite is it’s all coming back to me now, I crush that shit in karaoke.) Dean follows a mommy blog 🤣 of course he does, probably cuz he identifies with her more & loves that her life is so full of shit (like I said, he identifies with her).
God don’t sanction lying, the real God would never do such a thing. Isn’t it like the 6th commandment, thou shall not lie? Like dude, the fuck?!
And no, writing means telling stories that are often made up but it’s not meant to deceive anybody. But Hollywood on the other hand…yeesh.
Dean breaking Chuck’s guitar 🤣
Chuck saying ‘DON’T!’ Having Dean shook 🤣
Why are you asking them how things are, like you don’t know?! You’re omnipotent!
They canonically made the British queen a lizard? Damn. These old Americans (the writers) are dicks!
Finally Sam is speaking up! Thank God!
Dean stop blaming people, Jesus, it was an accident (Jack you phrased it sooooo poorly though)! shout out to Sam for taking it this so well cuz he’s been through too much this season alone. He lost a whole fucking army, then his mom after he got to know her this time! And the concussions! So many concussions.
Angry Cas is sooooo fucking hot 🥵 when he slammed that truck with his fist 😏
Awww the first thing he does when he sees Jack is hugs him. Jack needed that so bad!
The biggest travesty is we never got to see the SquirrelVerse!
When Sam asks if God is watching them — Sam do you even know what omnipotent means?!
It’s just like I said in season 11. God doesn’t owe anyone anything. But everyone owes Him everything. He gave everyone the freedom to choose, for better or worse. But this iteration of who God is seems to watch what people and creatures decide to do with their lives. He made the weapon to see who among Sam, Dean or Cas would take it and strike Jack down.
So ultimately when Dean tracks Jack down and Jack throws Cas into a tombstone and Sam is running dramatically to stop it, Dean ultimately decides not to kill Jack. But why though? He kept talking shit about how Jack needed to be dealt with, but when the moment comes, he won’t do it?! I mean I’m glad but it doesn’t really make sense?!
Was it the puppy eyes? Did Sam teach Jack that trick? But Jack closed his eyes at the last second???
Oh Dean, you’re such a fucking softie. That’s on you God. You made him softer than Mr. Pillsberry.
If anything, Dean is the step daddy. Cas is Daddy. And then there’s Uncle Sam 🤣
Sam is many things, but stupid is never one of them. Naïve maybe, trusting, desperate. But not stupid. And not crazy, this time 🤣
I will say what makes this story compelling is the fact that the Winchesters find themselves locked in a cycle of violence at the hands of their Creator, and they’re refusing to commit further acts of violence in effort to stop it all and rebel against their cruel, dispassionate maker. But they have no means to back it up…today.
Tumblr media
Not the Burger King catchphrase🤣🤣🤣
Not Jack being…smote?
Not Dean being yeeted into another tombstone?
Sam, why did you think that was gonna work on God? He made the weapon. You really think He’d make something that could kill Himself? Nah bruh.
So we’ve approached the ending of the penultimate season. 20 more episodes to go! Ah!!!! I’m excited but also not since the ending is what I know (mildly).
Side note - Sam & Dean still don’t know about Castiel’s bargain with the Empty (kinda seems pointless since God killed Jack anyway…Cas basically fucked himself for nothing 🤦🏾‍♀️ [I know how it ends but yeah still])
It’s not about the destination though, it’s the journey (I keep telling myself that).
God said fuck y’all. Shouldn’t’ve poked the bear…now these poor innocent people gonna die like sheep to the slaughter. Y’all got a lot of cleaning up to do and with so little people to help you.
So did God undo all the killings the Winchesters did? Cuz damn….that’s 10+ years of work undone. In 1 moment.
They’re not getting out of the cycle anytime soon.

HEY!! I’m just wondering if you could do a fic where Tim tells his sister he’s going to be a dad, Genny tells him how proud she is of him, Tim tells her his worry’s about being like their dad and they talk about their past..
[just a Bradford sibling scene]
I hope you enjoy!
HEY!! I’m just wondering if you could do a fic where Tim tells his sister he’s going to be a dad, Genny tells him how proud she is of him, Tim tells her his worry’s about being like their dad and they talk about their past.
Oh sister, (brother)I will help you out Oh, if the sky comes falling down For you
“Hey.” Says Tim sitting at the table across from Genny. He crosses his legs underneath the table and the uncrosses them. He’s not sure why he’s so nervous, this is his sister. Genny raises her eyebrows at him clearly sensing his nervousness.
“What’s up? Why did you want to meet?” She asks and there’s a pause. “Is Lucy okay?” Tim’s lip twitches a little bit at his wife’s name. Lucy is absolutely fine, Lucy is pregnant with their first child and though it was a bit of a surprise especially since she had to pull from an UC OP, it was absolutely amazing news.
He was going to be a dad. Lucy was going to be a mom. They were going to be parents.
And now he was going to tell Genny she was going to be an aunt. He knows she will be thrilled and will love this little baby so much.
“Lucy’s fine. Great actually. We planned to tell you this together but she has to work and—” Tim trails off and Genny’s eyes widen a little.
“What?”
“Lucy’s pregnant. We are having a baby.” He says. Genny’s face immediately breaks out into a smile.
“Oh my gosh Tim!” Genny says and she jumps up from the table to hug him. Tim feels himself relax a little. “That’s wonderful news.” His sister is beaming and he can’t help but smile too.
“Yeah.” He says softly as she sits back down. “It is wonderful.” Genny smiles at him and reaches out to squeeze his hand.
“What’s wrong?” She asks. He blows out a breath and looks up at the clear blue sky. He’s excited and he has been on cloud nine since he found out but the was this seed of doubt pushing through
It was a little voice inside his head that sounded a lot like his father’s. Berating him. Telling him he will never be good enough. Tormenting him. You are just like me son.
“What if I’m like dad?” He asks. Genny reels back a little bit, their father was a sore subject with them. They never really talked about him, he was not Tim’s favorite subject and Genny understood that.
“Tim. You are nothing like our father.” She says fiercely. “You have come so far. You have grown so much and been through so much. And somehow you come out stronger every single time.”
Tim stares at her, the words rolling over in his mind but the seed of doubt still there and growing. It’s tight in his chest and he knows he should talk to Lucy about this too.
“What if I’m someone who shouldn’t have kids?” He asks Genny. “Just like dad? Lucy is going to be a great mom. She already is. She just has this instinct about her but—”
“And you will make a wonderful father Tim.” Genny says. “You have already proven time and time again you are not dad. You never will be. You are such a good man. You found the woman you love, a job you love. Friends and family. Dad never had any of that. He was miserable and you are already proving that you are 100 times the man he ever was. Just by talking it out.”
Tim nods and Genny squeezes his hand again. “I’m so proud of you Tim. You made it through with Isabel and dad. I know it wasn’t easy but you did it.”
“Lucy pulled me out of my spiral.” He says. “I had this darkness and she just made it better.”
Genny smiles. “Lucy is pretty great.” She says and Tim smiles in agreement. “But you are pretty great too Tim.”
There’s a long silence and it’s only broken by Tim tapping on the table nervously. “Do you think we would be where we are today if it wasn’t for dad?” He asks. Genny sighs and leans back pushing some hair behind her ear.
“I don’t know Tim. I didn’t—you protected me.” She says. Tim nods running his hand through his hair. He did protect Genny from their father, he always got the brunt of it. And he would do it again. He never wanted his little sister to be as scarred as he was, traumatized even though she probably was in her own way.
“If I didn’t have all these scars. This trauma of dad..” Tim says and he wonders where he would be. He joined the military, became a cop, got married to Isabel. Divorced Isabel and met the love his life in the middle of all that. He wonders if his father hadn’t been a abusive bastard if he would even be a cop.
“I hate that you went through that Tim.” Genny says. “I’m so grateful you were there to protect me but I hate that you went through it.”
This time Tim squeezes her hands. “I would do it for you Gen. you are my sister after all. It was my job.”
Genny smiles sadly. “You were just a kid Tim.” She says. Tim nods and maybe he wishes things went differently but it wouldn’t change anything. And he would still protect Genny.
He will protect Lucy and their child, he will protect everyone he loves. And he’s going to do his best not to be his father. He can’t be because he already loves this baby more than anything.
“I’m excited for you Tim.” Genny says breaking the silence again.
“You are going to be a great aunt.” He says. “Just don’t spoil my kid too much.”
“Oh like you don’t spoil my kids?” She snaps back. “And I can’t wait to be an aunt. This baby will know nothing but love.”
Tim smiles and nods. That’s his goal, to show this baby and his future children exactly what a family is suppose to be. Love. Unconditional support.
Tim’s phone rings and he smiles when he sees who it is. Lucy. He answers and puts it on speaker phone.
“Hey Luce.” He says. “Genny’s here with me.” Genny looks down at the phone.
“Hey Lucy congratulations. You guys are going to be great parents.” She says and Tim can hear Lucy shuffling around.
“Thanks Genny. You are going to be a great aunt.” Lucy says. Tim smiles at the look on Genny’s face and he knows she’s excited. Just like he is.
He’s going to be a dad.
He has known that for awhile but it’s finally setting in. He’s going to be a dad like he has always wanted with the woman he loves more than life itself.
“Hey Tim. I got to go but I will see you when you get home.” Lucy’s voice pulls him out of his thoughts.
“Okay bye Luce. Love you.” He says and they hang up.
Genny smiles at him. “You know I’m just gonna use this baby to talk smack about you right?” She asks in amusement. Tim groans. Angela said the same thing. But really he wouldn’t have it any other way.
He had a wife and growing family and family and friends who loved him and would do anything for him.
Genny was right, their father never had that. And he was so grateful that he did have it. That he could be the feather he always wanted in his life.
He couldn’t wait to shower this baby with more love than he ever got. He couldn’t wait to be a dad.
He couldn’t wait for Lucy to be a mom and Genny to be an aunt. For his nephews to be cousins.
And he knows this is just the beginning.

Ignite Me (Homelander x Reader) Part Seven
Hi all! Sorry this chapter took a bit longer than I planned, I couldn’t get it to work past a certain point, then I tried out a different direction today when I was stuck at work and voila! Hope you enjoy! It’s a strange day when you wake up for work. Your phone is lighting up with notifications from various social media apps, mostly Casey and her friends sharing snapshots of the other night, most of them blurry or taken from odd angles, but you like a few of them anyway – they give you something to look at on your commute to work. Thankfully work has gotten easier lately – you still get occasional stares but some office drama has exploded recently, something about an intern fresh out of college screwing a married CEO with kids during a conference, so most people are busy discussing that and whether he’ll be forced to quit and who will get his job if he does. That sort of thing. It's only when you get a spare hour to go for some lunch, and since it’s a pleasant day you opt to eat it on a little grassy bank not too far from your office, that anything of note happens. Lots of other people are there too, boys skateboarding past, women on lunches with their friends, college students soaking up a bit of sun before they’re back in their dorms or libraries, businessmen in suits striding past with a phone clamped to their ear like they’re the most important people in the world. It’s so normal. It feels nice, especially since here there are so many people too absorbed in their own busy lives to notice or care who you are. You munch away happily on your lunch, brushing crumbs off your clothes every so often. That’s when your phone rings. “Hello?” you say through a mouthful of sandwich. “Hey, it’s me!” Casey. “Hey, have you recovered from the weekend?” you smirk, crossing your legs. “I’m still feeling a little delicate, but at least I can walk across a room without it tilting like I’m on a cruise ship.” Casey says, snorting. “You?” “Yeah, I’m okay. I had to get up in the middle of the night after I got home to puke, but luckily my roommate is still away so I didn’t wake anyone up.” You giggle. Casey laughs too, but it dies off and you hear her take in a breath. “Listen, this is going to sound totally weird, but…you didn’t see where Steve went, did you?” Oh, shit.
“Who?” you say, even though you know perfectly well who she means. “The guy who was tagging along with us. Danesha brought him at the last minute, I don’t really know why. Anyway, but she said he disappeared at some point, and he didn’t come back and she’s kinda worried. He hasn’t answered any of her messages.” You have no idea why Danesha cares, but you bite your lip. “Well...last time I saw him he kind of tried it on with me.” “WHAT?!” Casey shrieks down the phone, and you had the foresight to hold it away from your ear so you didn’t go deaf. “Yeah. I didn’t tell you at the time because I just wanted to go home and not make a scene, but I went outside because I felt sick and needed some air and Steve came out and tried to kiss me. I told him to fuck off and went back indoors. I didn’t see him follow me back in so many he stormed off in a bitchfit or something?” “Jesus, what a fucking creep!” Casey declares. “Lucy told me he tried it on with her as well and you saw how out of it she was. Ugh. He probably heard Danesha was going and invited himself along because he was looking to get laid.” You snort, flicking away an ant that was crawling up your leg. “Yeah, fat chance of that happening.” “Exactly!” Casey says, and you feel a rush of affection for her, especially since she’s not annoyed you didn’t tell her about Steve at the time. “I’ll tell Danesha and hopefully she’ll realise he’s not worth thinking about. Listen, I’ve got to go but we’ll talk again soon, okay?” “Okay, see you.” You hang up and stare at your phone, and the vindication you felt after your knee-jerk dislike for Steve is only strengthened. What an asshole. You don’t notice it at the time, but although most people in the park don’t look up as you cross the grass to toss away your wrappers, a figure stands apart from the crowd, watching you from behind dark sunglasses. When you glance back to make sure you didn’t leave anything, he’s already gone. ~ When you unlock the door and enter your apartment with a sigh, tossing your keys into a little bowl by the door, which slams shut behind you, you’re about ready to just fall face-down on your bed and not get up for hours. The commute home was hell. Hot, stuffy hell with someone’s baby continuously wailing somewhere and a creepy guy muttering to himself. But unfortunately, your beckoning bed will have to wait. “Hey there. Long time no see.” Your heart jolts in your chest. Lifting your eyes, your body stiffens at the sight awaiting you. Homelander. He stands leaning against the back of the couch, legs straight, his posture deceptively casual, arms loosely folded at his chest. It’s impossible to tell how long he’s been standing there – he could have arrived seconds before you or he could have been watching your entire journey home, from you appearing around the corner onto your street, to riding the elevator up to your floor. Your eyes dart to the balcony door, which is shut, but dimly you acknowledge he’s probably busted the lock to get in and now you’re going to have to ask the landlord to fix it. Great. The silence lingers like fog, and you clear your throat. "What are you doing here?" you say, and there’s a note of accusation that creeps out. Homelander's eyebrows go up and he tilts his head. He clearly isn't a fan of your tone, but you're not a fan of him casually breaking into your flat either. "You left without saying goodbye." he replies, and though his tone is even, the air seems heavy with an unseen current, like the lick of static before a storm. He angles his shoulder towards you, like a bird puffing out its plumage to look bigger. It’s a subtle change, so much so that if you weren’t hyperaware of every little move he makes, you might have missed it. "Yeah, well, I didn't want to hold you up." you reply, flatly. Going to your room to change out of your work clothes obviously isn't an option and you can detect some subtle mockery in Homelander's gaze as it travels up and down your body. No doubt he isn't very impressed by your affordable, lowkey corporate attire when he’s surrounded by people who treat designed clothes like they fished them out of a bargain bin and something in you bristles at the condescension in his gaze. Excuse ME if I don’t make the same salary as the drones who work at Vought. You think, lips narrowing in anger. Instead of hiding in your room like you’d prefer to do, you dump your bag on the ground since it was making you slouch and head straight for the kitchen area. Your heart is thumping as you pull a chilled bottle of booze out of the fridge and pour yourself a big glass of it, because you're sure you're going to need it for this conversation. You pointedly don't offer Homelander anything. Homelander clicks his tongue and pushes himself off the sofa, and you feel rather than hear him getting closer to you - for a man with such a large presence, he can move eerily quietly when he wants to. You stand with your back to him, gulping down chilly liquor. More silence ticks by – he’s clearly waiting for you to scramble to fill it like you did last time he visited unannounced, but when you say nothing, he decides to cut to the chase. "What? You pouting because of before?" he mocks, and the jeer in his voice is unmistakable - it launches you immediately to the popular boys at school who'd point at girls and loudly proclaim if they had a zit or toilet paper on her shoe. It's a little unnerving how closely he nails the tone, considering you're pretty sure he never went to school. Where did you learn that? Probably an interview being played in a waiting room somewhere. “Huh. But you didn’t mind showing up when Vought gave you the big bucks, did you?” You’re so not in the mood for this. You set the glass down on the counter with a definitive click. “What’s the problem?” you say impatiently, turning around, though you’re careful not to say your problem, even though it clearly is – Vought hasn’t contacted you once since you told Ashley to leave you alone. You’d hoped they’d forgotten about you, and maybe they have, but not Homelander. No, he seems to feel the connection between you, transient though it was, fraying, and he can’t resist pulling on the rope to see if there’s still anything left there for him to reel you back in. You just don’t understand why. “I did the stupid interview you wanted, even though I told you I didn’t want to do it, you got your precious ratings and now you’re even more popular than ever. Congratulations.” His lips thin out and he prowls closer, purposefully invading your space. You want to back away, but you force yourself to stay rooted to the ground – this is your goddamn home, and you won’t let him bully you from pillar to post. “I don’t appreciate your tone, missy.” He hisses and you’d almost laugh at the reprimand – missy? – but his expression chills you. Somehow him speaking calmly is even worse than him shouting. “I don’t understand why you’re here.” You say, folding your arms. “My part in all this is over, it’s done. If you’re here to tell me Vought want me to do another interview, the answer is no.” Homelander scoffs, his head giving a jerky little shake, and when he sees you’re completely serious, his disbelief only seems to grow. You figure that ‘no’ is probably not a word that his highness is accustomed to hearing, especially not from someone like you. “You- are you kidding me?” he says, exasperatedly. His lip quirks like he’s trying to decide whether or not to smile. “What was so hard about doing an interview that you just fuck off and don’t say anything to anyone? Jesus Christ, you got paid for your time, didn’t you? You agreed to do it. Then just as it’s going somewhere, well, now you’re hiding out here, going back to your shitty little office job and that’s it? Fucking really?” Outrage makes your spine stiffen – how dare he act like you’re being unreasonable? You didn’t want to do the goddamn fucking interview in the first place, and you know he knows that – he coerced you, made it sound like it would be the final chapter on this whole affair, but instead you just felt exploited and used and Homelander let you know just how insignificant he found you, how little he cared about your feelings. You were a means to an end to him. Now he’s here trying to guilt you about it? Fuck that. “Do you think I like talking about that day over and over again?” you demand, frustration surging through you. Your voice gets louder and louder with each word, but once you got going, you can’t stop. It’s like a plane gaining altitude as it soars down a runway. “Do you think all I want people to know or care about me is that I went viral for kissing you? The fact I nearly fucking died doesn’t seem to matter to anyone else, they’re just in it for the fucking memes! Well, it matters to me! I still dream about that day, you know. I wake up in cold sweats that hey, I got fucking shot just walking down the street! I have an ugly fucking scar on my stomach that is never, ever going to completely go away. People whisper and stare at me whenever I go anywhere, I had to change my hair just so people wouldn’t immediately recognise me from the internet! It’s only just started to calm down to the point I’m not looking over my shoulder all the time in case somebody realises it’s me. But nobody gives a shit about that, do they? Nooo - all they want me to talk about is you. Your big, heroic day.” He looks like he doesn’t understand why that could possibly be considered an issue, and he throws his hands up in exasperation. "I saved your life!" he barks at you. "That doesn't mean you own it!" An expression flits over Homelander’s face, too fast for you to properly discern what it is – anger? Shock? Perhaps even…despair? The next moment his hand shoots out and he seizes you by the throat. Instantly, your anger bursts like a balloon to be replaced by a wave of sheer fear. His thumb presses against your windpipe and, just for a second, cuts off your air supply. You make a wheezy, botched attempt at a gasp. He’s never done this before. You know how strong he is – everyone knows it. He strikes terror in the heart of criminals everywhere just from a glimpse of his shadow. Homelander watches you squirm in his grip and his expression is detached. Almost bored. But the terrifying thing isn't that Homelander is holding you still just by his grip on your neck, the leather of his gloves cool against your flushed skin. Nor is it that both of you know that he could crush your throat, and nobody would be any the wiser that he was responsible. No, the terrifying thing is that despite the fact you're having to push yourself up onto your tiptoes just to get some air, that his fingers feel less like flesh and bone and more like steel - you know that he's not really trying. This terrifying show of strength that has rendered you powerless is merely a demonstration. A warning of what to expect if you don't watch your mouth. The moment stretches between the both of you for an eternity. You become hyperaware of your heartbeat, of your own shaky breathing. It never occurred to you until now that he might hurt you. That may seem naïve, but Homelander is meant to be a superhero. He saves people. Protects America from any threat that may come its way. He’s the first thing people think of when you say the word ‘Supe’ – him taking a missile to his broad chest, holding a bus of screaming passengers overheard when it’s about to plunge off a bridge, him waving to a crowd of adoring fans. America is spoon-fed these images of Vought’s handpicked heroes saving civilians, every single day. And he’s their ultimate trump card, the ace up their sleeve for when the chips or down or viewers are getting bored. If the Seven are gemstones, Homelander’s a diamond. And now the jewel in their crown has his fingers around your neck. Homelander himself looks slightly surprised, like he doesn’t quite know what to do next. Grabbing hold of you seems an action of pure impulse, a knee-jerk act of anger at your sudden aversion to him when you had been so compliant before. It seems both of you are learning distasteful personality traits in the other person today. “Heh.” He gives a bitten-off little laugh and lets you go, though his arm still hovers near you like he isn’t sure if he wants to push you away or grab you again. He blinks once, slowly, eyelashes flickering like insect wings. “Almost lost my temper there.” You stare at him and even though his grip on your throat wasn’t hard enough hurt, you can feel a well of hopelessness overflowing inside your chest, like it’s being filled to the brim with cold water. You’re scared. You’re scared and you don’t know what to do. You can’t run from him, and you can’t hide. You don’t even know why he’s pissed off, not really. He could rescue someone else and write a Vought storybook romance with them if he wanted to – but he’s here, needling you, trying to get something out of you that you don’t understand. And since you can’t do anything else, there’s only one thing left you can think of. “What do you want from me?” you ask, and it comes out so plaintive and sad, like a child’s voice. Despite all the frustration and anger and confusion…you suddenly feel like any moment you might start crying. And you don’t want to be that person, someone who bursts into tears because some guy yelled at them. But therein lies the problem, doesn’t it? Because Homelander isn’t just some guy. Not at all. He says nothing, and when you look at his expression, you’re shocked. His mouth is downturned, lips pressed against each other as he gazes at you. He looks so melancholy. It’s like your question has infected him with your misery and confusion and he’s reflecting it back at you. It seems astonishing to you that Homelander doesn’t seem to know the answer to the question himself – he came here to provoke you, to get some kind of a response, and then when he got one, he didn’t know how to react. Perhaps this is new territory for him, unused to navigating complicated social interactions without a teleprompter or an earpiece feeding him lines to say. Perhaps that’s why he keeps coming back to you, because you’re one of the only things in his life that isn’t part of a script. “I…” Homelander says, like he’s trying to remember something, his voice quiet but rough. “I want…” You have never heard him hesitate. Whenever he’s on TV, he always sounds confident and decisive. Just like the leader of the Seven should be. True, most of the things he says are generic platitudes, all with that shiny Vought coating, but now he sounds so…lost. Far from finding this comforting, proof he is a human under that suit after all, you find it unnerving. Men like Homelander don’t let their walls down easily and you don’t want to know how he’ll react if he decides to blame it on you. Even if you never fucking asked to see him like this. Or at all.  A gloved hand suddenly curves around your head, and you stiffen reflexively, but all he does is pull you to him, slowly, mindful of that monstrous strength of his, and soon you understand what he’s doing- Homelander is fucking hugging you. His hand cups the back of your head, cradling your skull in his palm and his other hand slips around your back. You hate to admit it, but there’s no denying it – he’s warm and with the padding of the suit it’s all too easy to relax in his grip, even though your instinct is to be wary. You move as carefully as he does, as if you could possibly do anything to break him, but you’re feeling as tentative as he is. It’s the most bizarre thing – was all he really wanted under all his posturing a hug? Is he truly this incapable of voicing his own needs? Cautiously, because you get the sense he wants it, you rest a hand on his bicep and make an awkward rubbing motion in an attempt to be soothing. You’re sure it’s probably not all that effective, you’ve never been a naturally comforting or maternal person, but he seems to appreciate your attempts at it because he squeezes you a little (but not too tightly – even now, you must admit his control over his powers is incredible) and he rests his chin atop your head. You feel his chest expand and you’re not stupid, you know what he’s doing – he’s smelling your hair, breathing in the vague hint of flowers from your shampoo and though it’s intensely weird for Homelander to be fucking sniffing you like a wolf, it’s not as bad as everything else he’s done so far so you let it pass without comment. You stand that way for a little while, soaking in the sudden calm. It’s like walking out into the rain after a storm, and the words slip unbidden from your mouth.  “You know,” you say, because something has occurred to you. A little slip of the tongue from when he ranted at you during that goddamn interview – the words had lodged in your brain despite your efforts to ignore them – it didn’t strike you as important at the time, but now it’s nudging you like a thorn in your side. But He said: “Like you have the slightest fucking idea of how hard it really is, doing this bullshit all the time.” Was it possible Homelander was jealous that you could ask for a break, and he couldn’t? That when you were overwhelmed, you didn’t keep quiet about it, that you expressed when something wasn’t what you signed on for. Homelander may be the powerful one…but what about when he doesn’t want to do something? Does he have a choice? Does anybody ever ask him at Vought if he needs a break? He hums to let you know he’s listening, a nudge for you to finish what you started. So, you do. “If you…if needed a rest for a little while, you can crash here. If you want to.” There’s a pause and you can almost see him weighing his options. He looks at you from beneath half-lidded eyes. Then he nods, just once. “Okay.” The response is so mild it takes you aback, but you still carefully step back out of his grip and lead the way to your room, even as a little voice in your head screams What are you doing?! What the fuck are you doing?! You have no idea what you’re doing, except that you’ve manage to defuse the situation and you’re just going with it. Homelander follows you without a word of complaint – he doesn’t even make any smartass comments about how messy your room is, with clothes all over the floor and a teetering stack of books on the table beside your bed. At least you remembered to make your bed this morning. You turn to leave – maybe go and buy some stronger alcohol or jump into a nearby river or something, but his fingers lock around your wrist. You look up at him and he’s not looking at you, instead you’re treated to the sight of his side-profile, the sharp jawline and unfairly long eyelashes. He stares at the bed, a set of fairy lights you strung up around the headboard twinkling invitingly. “Stay with me.” He says, but it’s not a command as you’d expect. It’s almost a question. You sigh slowly, but truth be told, you’re tired as well. So tired that it seems easier to just acquiesce than to fight him. And there’s something hopeful in his expression that gives you pause. “Okay,” you say, but hurry to add sternly, “But just sleeping, understand? Nothing else.” It's absurd –someone like you is giving Homelander orders now? Well, it is your bedroom. Homelander accepts this with an eyeroll and a terse nod, like he’s irritated you even felt the need to say it. Well, at least you know his personality hasn’t done a complete one-eighty. You’re not going to nap in your work clothes, so you stoop to grab a pair of sweats and a tank top from a pile of clothes on a chair that are all clean but still need to be ironed. The pile has been sitting there for a couple of weeks now, getting bigger and bigger. You slip into the bathroom to change, shutting the door firmly behind you, even though it’s a symbolic gesture at best – if Homelander wants to watch you strip down to your bra and panties, all he has to do is turn his X-ray vision on and you can’t really do anything about it. You just hope he’s too tired to give a shit. When you emerge, he’s perched on the end of your bed. His boots, gloves and belt are gone but the cape is still on. You eye the eagle epaulettes, which do not look comfortable at all, but you’re not going to waste your breath offering him any of your clothes to sleep in. You’re not his mommy and you know he'd only say no. There are too many strange lines being crossed right now without the confusion of undressing around each other. He looks up at you and holds out a hand. “C’mere.” He nearly whispers it. Feeling like you’re in a dream, you approach Homelander, and his fingers curl around yours. Touching Homelander’s hand seems a strangely intimate thing to do, like you’re both in some sort of period drama. He turns and pulls you down onto the bed with him. His touch is gentle, so you sink down onto the blanket with him. Somehow, you don’t need to speak to each other to settle on a position – you turn around because staring into his face seems too intense for the moment, and Homelander is at your back in an instant, arms wrapped tightly around you like he never wants to let you go. You don’t know how you manage to fall asleep, but before you know it, the room has floated away, with Homelander’s arms as your only anchor.

soooo since i am just ROLLING AROUND IN my chenford brainrot, i just rewatched the ep where lucy and jackson each have plans with fam to celebrate graduating to being P2s
and all i could think during that heartbreaking scene with lucy and her mom being super shitty and unsupportive AFTER lucy was all optimistic about thinking her parents were finally coming around to her choices and she was making lotus soup for them and i just-- UGH
my lovely girl was so heartbroken crying at her kitchen counter and all i wanted for her was to have another chance to make that soup to celebrate something else (maybe a promotion?) with tim and tamara
it got me thinking-- i know how in regards to chenford, it's super obvious how lucy is the sunshine brightening up tim's life because that boy has been THROUGH IT
but can we talk about how tim also brightens up lucy's life as well?
like imagine the crushing pain from feeling like you're a constant disappointment to your parents-- like even if you're happy, you're parents don't care unless they are happy first and foremost? I FEEL THAT ON SO MANY LEVELS (seriously, i let out a daughter-of-asian-immigrants primal scream when lucy's mom was like, "BE A DOCTOR THEN!")
i'm sure lucy had never felt secure in any of her choices (which honestly bleeds into how one views oneself)... but as time went on during her training and her time as a P2 and in UC, tim is there to reassure her that she IS good at things, and that she SHOULD NOT second guess herself because she has good instincts
AND SHE BELIEVES HIM
and it makes her more confident in herself, it makes her braver to see herself as "worth the effort" and now they're in love and i just- i am on the floor
he brightened up her world just as much she brightened up his and i think that's beautiful
