My Pick: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Excellent read for Halloween. I have never actually read the story until now. However, this was definitely not the story I remember from the movies. A bit comical if you keep imagining the characters the way they looked in the movie.

Lawrence is a beautifully written contemporary romance, centred around the affair between Connie and her husbands gamekeeper Mellors. I can completely understand why this book received - and still has - polarising views and opinions. The swearing at times is over the top, and the cheating is the main plot line of the book. In saying that though, there was a point being made, and I personally thought it was gorgeous. I’ve been meaning to pick this up ever since I read Tenderness at the start of the year - and now that I have, there is so much more depth and meaning to both books. While it was incredibly slow to start, I really couldn’t put it down once I was past the 1/3 mark - I was desperate to find out what happened to both Connie and Mellors, and the letter at the end gave me tears. They can be anyone, even the people you have left behind and that will be the moment where you will root to go back and wish to change the deeds. But as it is the nature of Time, it takes you with the flow or else you are drowned. Author has written a flourished character with smooth transition as the timeline progresses. This is one of the book which aspires a person to be good and humble.
