And I stayed up long past midnight because I was tired of sleeping through darkness, through dreams, through precious minutes that would never be returned to me. I wanted to watch the snow fall at 4am in the winter, To hear thunder in summer at dawn. But mostly, I wanted to live – to shed off empty schedules and meaningless routines that fed neither my body or soul. And I wanted to praise my Father in darkness, as I did in light; to reflect on his hand in the seen and unseen, to heighten senses I had never used in daylight. And to live consciously – painfully, but purposely, through darkness, through dreams, through precious minutes that would never be returned to me. blank canvas

you are not sullied

you are not spoiled

you are not a fraction of who you were

before all the mess

before all the mistakes

they handed you

a sheet of paper,

tore it as a metaphor

gave a piece to each romantic partner

until you were left

with only a sliver

they said that's all you would be

if you gave yourself away

listen, daughter

to my voice--

shame is not my method of teaching

my instruction comes through redemption,

healing and grace

I did not just restore you

I redeemed you.

I have made you new.

You are washed clean, child.

what You said to me

in my shame over my past,

my dirty choices--

where I felt embarrassed, ashamed, disgusting

You wipe me clean.

You love a blank canvas.

Your table is welcome to me,

an invitation to eat freely,

a gift of communion.

our relationship is one of breaking bread,

of talking to one another

about how the day went;

we share, we laugh, we dine.

Your table is one of belonging

and vulnerability

here we commune

here we confide--

how effortless it is,

Felt like I hadn't done this in a while...

🎙️Spoken word on an actual physical stage in front of new people (i.e. not ZOOM and requested RECORDINGS - although I've still enjoyed and been blessed to do that too 🙌🏾).

...and well apart from my local church and sister churches, of course 😄😆😉.

😷 The beginning of 2020 I was sharing all over the place (Enfield, London Bridge, Chelsea, Oxford) and at least once a month and then boom the pandemic hit!

🙇🏾‍♀️🎤 So it was a REFRESHING and HUMBLING time to minister, 'Resuscitation' & 'We'll See Each Other Up There' pieces, early last month at the ONE SONG event in Hounslow.

🙏🏽 One song is a space where creatives and anyone with a story come to share and perform original work. @onesongcreatives.

💜 A massive thank you to the beautiful and talented @Iyino who invited me.

It is always a pleasure to meet creatives and receive too, and there were so many talented folk under one roof. There's such a desire in my heart to see everyone release their God-given gifts to the world. I hope you all do.💜🙏🏽
