Milestone Monday

April 29th is World Wish Day! Originally established by the Make-A-Wish foundation in 2010, the day has since become a day to enfold wish making and granting into our daily lives. On this day, we're sharing Pinkety, Pinkety A Practical Guide to Wishing for inspiration and instruction on how to make the most of wishes.  

Pinkety, Pinkety A Practical Guide to Wishing was written by children’s literature author Sesyle Joslin (b. 1929), illustrated by Luciana Roselli, and published by Harcourt, Brace & World in 1966. Joslin wrote many books throughout the late 50s and 60s, including a Caldecott Honor publication What do You Say, Dear? Illustrated by Maurice Sendak (1928-2012) and published in 1959.  

While Joslin worked with several different illustrators over the years, all of her books visually share a deep sense of whimsical imagination. Roselli’s intricate line drawings within Pinkety, Pinkety A Practical Guide to Wishing bring the story to life in fantastical scenes that follow a young girl on her wish making adventures.

I'm sure this is a very unpopular opinion but I don't think Rue's death is necessarily the big breaker that I've seen some people say. If you think it is, that's totally fine, this is just my opinion. But I have seen a few people talking about it and it doesn't bug me or anything, I just strongly disagree.

I say this only for one reason really. And that being that Rue's death, while horrendous and tragic, is nothing new in the games. It's not nice, but nor is it uncommon for a 12 year old child to be picked and even her death itself wasn't especially bloody compared to others.

Her death was definitely one of the saddest and most tragic in terms of an innocent child being killed and I adore the scene in the films where they showed District 11 react violently in retaliation. But at the same time, I never saw that as their reaction to Rue's death. I always saw it as their reaction to Katniss reaction of Rue's death. Seeing another tribute from another District no less show such care, compassion and respect, even love, decorating Rue in flowers and doing what is considered a treasonous act towards the Capitol... I think that kindess allowed them to react to the rage that had been growing every time they saw one of their own sent to die in the games.

Other observation: In previous years, the event all took place at Home. Home is pretty small, so the dragon was always nearby and it was pretty hard to fully escape its music. Here though, the ice rink is very large and open compared to Home, so if you want to light up the fireworks (which also drop at a more frequent rate) and get some wax, the dragon flies away with its music really quickly, which can lead to a sort of empty feeling. I don’t really know where I was going with this, just something that I wanted to mention.

Attempting to draw more Vulcan hairstyles reminiscent of Tuvok’s. I can imagine the anti-bowlcut-bare-forehead style originally being more rebellious but then just becoming mainstream trendy. I can also imagine it having some spiritual connotations/being connected in some way to temple work.

A kind of introduction about every character and their changes. Here we are with the first one, the main character! This drawings will be present in some ending chapter idk. Also, I took inspiration from another creator, I'll try to tag them because they are totally amazing<3 @amity206 I love your art!

Also, two small facts that I forgot to add: Sentinekka has different nicknames as Sen' and Senny, and she has a really cute voice, so she can sing very well; she loves Aurora's songs (duh who doesn't?).
