Round 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under Cut
Annabeth Chase
I feel like fandom is kinda split on her with percabeth shippers loving her but any m/m shipper I've seen does not like her, really. She is my bae tho <3
Percabeth antis grind my gears so much because they never hate Percy, nono, even though he's arguably done more questionable stuff than Annabeth. Not everyone who hates her is doing so because of a mlm ship— the Perachel stans claim that Annabeth is a misogynist. However, basically everyone that isn't trying to ship her boyfriend with Rachel is trying to ship him with Jason, Nico, or her old friend Luke. They make her out to be this horrible abusive girlboss(derogatory) that she's simply... not. She doesn't insult Percy for having ADHD just because she's highly intelligent. She doesn't physically abuse him, and doesn't lay a finger on him outside of training. She's really devoted to him in a non-anti-feminist way. They just hate her for 'getting in the way' of Nico's convoluted attraction to Percy, or Jason's close friendship with him, or Luke's rivalry with him. But those relationships all flourish the way they were intended by the author: non-romantically. It's not Annabeth's fault for being intelligent or capable or jokingly snide or determined or any of those non-stereotypically-feminine qualities. She's just out here existing and people hate her for not being a man. Sorry for the rant.
She's canonically in a relationship with Percy Jackson for most of the books they're in, but he often gets paired in canon with other male characters, such as Nico di Angelo or Jason Grace. In fan fiction (especially yaoi focused ones) she's characterized as being a stuck up know it all, but she gets into plenty of shenanigans in canon and can be pretty goofy and sweet!
Sakura Haruno
Her husband is gay and her author doesn't know how to write women. So many people say she's the worst but she. DESERVES. BETTER!!! Save her from this franchise.
My baby girl my bestie my best friend. She committed the crime of um being written by kishimoto who both doesn’t know how to write women and somehow writes men in the gayest way possible specifically naruto and sasuke. Like the thing is naruto and sasuke ARE gay and also she gets so much hate for the crime of kishimoto writing her one dimensionally in love with sasuke. I know her personally she is a butch lesbian to me just trust me she’s in love with Ino and has a lesbian thing going on with Karin okay just trust me. My everything. She needs to divorce the loveless lavender marriage she’s in
What is there to say, even? The OG Threat to my 90s anime brain, the only woman I've ever hated with such a passion she made me turn away from the color pink. I used to write fics with my friend where she got left behind on purpose so our OCs could join the Naruto and Sasuke team instead. I loathed this bitch until I was 16 and realized the author simply couldnt write women and decided it was time to make peace with Sakura. It is not her fault she's vaguely written and obsessive over Sasuke. She deserves better. Sasuke and Naruto still should be together and Sakura shouldnt be with Sasuke but I no longer believe this because I hate Sakura, it is because I love her. She deserves a spouse who will actually put in the time to treat her like the hero she is.

How You Met
~ Millie Bright ~
~~~~~~~~~~
• for the first time since you were sixteen you were single
• and you had anticipated it'd stay that way for at least a year
• but when millie bright walked into your life all the hesitancy in the world couldn't stop the inevitable
• growing up in a single father household in Kingston you had been raised a Chelsea fan
• no matter how much your toxic Brummie boyfriend turned baby daddy turned husband turned ex tried to switch you Villa
• having gone through a recent divorce and sexual awakening you were trying to navigate your new life as a single mum of three
• with inherited new funds and incoming child support your first instinct was to do something spontaneous
• something you never could have before
• with your youngest barely able to hold his head up
• your eldest daughter a football fanatic nonstop talking about the upcoming world cup
• and your middle girl obsessed with all wildlife, and a particular new interest in sea turtles, the answer seemed obvious to you
• hopping online you had one goal and within an afternoon had secured flights to spend the entire summer in australia
• for your family being in australia and not watching the Women’s World Cup would have been a travesty
• so you secured tickets to the first England group game and the final
• within a week of arrival you were all sat in matching jerseys, front row, awaiting the England vs Haiti kick-off
• flags and signs waving in the air ecstatically it was no surprise your littles were noticed
• by the cameras
• but also by the team themselves
• Georgia directed her celebrations first to her family and friends, but secondly to the two young blondes going crazy goalside (aka your daughters)
• after the match all the lionesses made their way around the pitch, spending extra time in the fan section where the four of you collected a number of signatures
• the absolute adoration on the captains face as she caught your eye for the first time was unmissable to her best friend
• Rachel joining her side immediately to distracted and entertain the kids beside you
• having gone through a somewhat recent breakup herself Millie had found herself a bit of a player in recent months
• so when her charm isn't so quick to work with you she falters
• somehow your total oblivion is even more adorably endearing to the older blonde
• it’s not intentional of course, you simply hadn't had enough experience flirting to recognise it
• especially from an International footballer!
• you agree to spend her recovery day with her, knowing just how many irreplaceable memories it'd create for your kids (and maybe you a little too)
• spending the day behind the scenes at australia zoo with the lionesses was more than you could have dreamed
• football for Kolby, animals for Ayla, and twenty-three football players all dotting attention on Lex
• other than exchanging numbers at the end of the day nothing romantic happens that day
• but Millie was unable to ignore her obvious attraction to you
• texts between you becoming increasingly common and tickets to all matches being offered
• it took longer than either would've liked but eventually Millie found a free hour and a teammate willing to babysit
• a sunrise beach walk with coffee in hand was too romantic for even you to ignore the signs of
• somehow you became groupies, discovering the country while following the team to every game
• falling for Millie came surprisingly easily
• watching the way she bonded with your children was heart melting
• and just a glance in your direction had you pinching yourself
• how was this your real life after the shit deal you'd been dealt so far?!
• she felt the same way though, not believing someone like you had walked into her life and xoukd be interested in her
• semi-final celebrations were moments of dreams
• neither of you being found too far away from the other at the after party
• ending the night on the beach, both a little tipsy, laid watching the stars, you finally share your first kiss
• the labels of your relationship not coming at quite as happy a moment
• england had just come second in the world cup and you couldn't be prouder, especially after coming to know the girls personally
• but with captaincy resting on her shoulders Millie couldn’t help but be disappointed in herself, despite her pride team in the as a whole
• finding a quite moment to pull the older girl away from the post-match madness and media you held her as she finally allow the mask to drop
• as you held her crying in your arms you still found her the most beautiful person you'd ever met, you knew you had to make her yours
~~~~~~~~~~
And here it is! The first blurb of the Wag diaries!!
Let me know what y’all think! Is it something you think you’ll be interested in??

taylor: repressedly bisexual but the repression itself is also repressed in that she subconsciously feels the way she thinks abt women is strange (bc she subconsciously feels / fears / believes that she herself is inherently strange) but justifies & then re-justifies it to herself every few weeks .. to everybody else this just looks like her glancing at lisa’s tits & then thousand-yard staring off into the distance for a solid five minutes .. wildbow made her a trans girl on accident (like he did w most beautiful & true things in worm) but nobody tell him because he does not deserve to know
brian: i do legitimately believe he is both straight & cis bc if he wasn’t he would palpably b much stranger abt manhood & masculinity than he already is in-text .. he has considered kissing a man at least once but figured after hefty deliberation that sort of thing just wasn’t for him .. however i do think cherish should have called him gay not bc he rly is but bc it would have made him pause & afterwards fall into a period of rumination & actually i think this is how his summer of the forest could have happened
lisa: in love w taylor in every sense of the phrase but i wouldn’t say “attraction” itself is a factor there / that love isn’t predicated on romance or attraction or what one might typically attribute to love .. sexuality isn’t something she herself would rly care to put labels on nor something i think has much merit here but for shorthand i would just call her an arospec / acespec / etc lesbian .. cis but i think the only value gender has to her is wrt its social connotations (in business & persona) .. if she woke up one day in magical boy universe i think she would just adapt & adjust but she would grieve the loss of being able to go “look at this sweet face! would this girl lie to u :(” when that girl is in fact lying to u
rachel: butch lesbian & it is embedded into every aspect of her character & i will never ever ever ever listen to that foul man’s words he doesn’t know her he doesn’t even know her he is nothing he is nothing he is nothing he is nothing he isn’t real he can’t hurt me he isn’t real he isn’t real & canada is an elaborate ploy by the first pioneers of the parahumans wordpress to account for worm’s esoteric undetermined origins
aisha: bisexual (for realsies apparently) but i don’t think it rly comes into play much other than as cudgel for her jests & japes bc she will b hung up on her best friend from when she was 13 until the day after she dies .. whether or not she was srs when she rated cherie fuck in fuck marry kill is up to u tho i do think she has a tendency to either dramatise or just completely make things up when talking abt her own attraction / preferences for eeshy reasons (see: asking defiant is the robot pussy was rly that good) .. gender is whatever she feels like in the moment
alec: i think i have to delegate to lakesbian here seeing as they r his professor / lawyer / doyen / ambassador .. my only thoughts on this matter r i don’t think u could even call him a hedonist sexuality-wise bc there is absolutely zero demonstration of him expressing attraction / engaging in any romantic or sexual pursuits based off sheer opportunity & desire for pleasure besides vague comments abt his sexual abuse as a child

Egg Percy Jackson evidence masterpost
Considers traditional masculinity a burden,weird,confusing and gross(see her calling Ares ugly + Finding Apollo extremely annoying for acting like a stereotypical guy)but forces it onto herself because she's desperate to fit in and be accepted
Thinks women are better than men
Almost all her friends in the og series were girls(Annabeth,Silena,Clarisse,Thalia,Zoe,Bianca and Rachel vs just Grover,Nico and Beckendorf)
The first gay male character in the series stopped crushing on her because he realized she's not the ideal man he thought she was
Her relathionship with him is also very eldest sister/middle brother-esque
Her most common clothing item is hoodies(dysphoria)
Almost all the gods who treat her badly are men while almost all her positive relathionships with them are with the goddesses,including Artemis who is very famous for disliking men and protecting young girls
Persephone,who's most significant and solid myth is about men's violence against women(Hymn to Demeter),canonically likes her for being 'different' from other 'male' halfbloods
Generally relates to other female characters more than she does male ones
Best friends to lovers to exes turned even closer best friends is a very common experience for irl trans women with afab wlw and this is her canon dynamic with Rachel
Was jealous of Thalia because wanted to be like her,Thalia being a girl who defies and spits in the face of society's expectations of women but is still very proudly a girl and gets pissed when people try to erase that
Frequently describes women she finds pretty in an enchanted and awed way,which combined with all the prev points is most definitely gender envy
The Titan's Curse,the book where she enters teenagehood,had a huge focus on how she's 'not like other men' by the Hunters,who in the og myths were pretty much a metaphor for 'lesbians',if not outright interested in women and rejecting men as romantic options
Only ship them platonically but Annabeth never really shows attraction to characters she thinks are men other than her and Luke and she straight up said she never actually loved the latter romantically and always saw him as an older brother and was just confused because of how young she was so this makes both her being a lesbian and Percy being a trans woman click perfectly together
Specifically them being butch4femme since Annabeth is a tomboy who hates girlyness for herself and Percy as per stated before dosen't wanna be masc.Also,daughter of the king of Atlantis?'Her hair was curly,like a princess'?Gender envy strikes again!!
She acts like a Mom Friend very often,especially to younger characters,and i'm allowed to say that because i'm afab and a Mom Friend myself
Rick has commented on her sexuality but never her gender so it's not like it's been debunked
A joke one but Blackjack was called a mare in SOM yet a stallion from TTC onward so trans horse boy and his trans horse girl owner
Luke's relathionship with her heavily parallels his to Annabeth,Thalia and Silena so it's not a stretch to say this is unintentional subtext of her being a girl like them and him picking up on her vulnerability like he did them(Not in a 'chilvarious' way btw)
Jason and her remind me of many common main m/f romance tropes-The 'hotheaded girl x levelheaded boy' classic,tall girlfriend and slighter taller boyfriend,contrasting in a complimentary way powers,iirc it being obvious to everyone they instantly liked eachother(feel free to correct me and i'll remove this),Team Parents to the babies of the cast and 'Sweet Sixteen' joke since Percy met her first boyfriend at that age.Worth noting that this would make Percy Jason's best friend who's a girl and that he broke with Piper because their feelings for eachother were shallow and their dating dynamic was too by extent
Similarly,Percy and Annabeth fall under the 'dark haired female protagonist and her tomboy blonde best friend' trope that was so popular 2000s/2010s
More so motifs i think work well than evidence but sea related things are usually associated with femininity-Calling ships 'she',mermaids,pearl jewelry,the moon controlling the tides,the term 'Beach Bunny',etc
Her random reinforments of her 'manhood' are very inconsistent with the rest of her personality and we're given no indication Sally raised her on gender roles so it's less Percy being Percy and more Rick being a cis man
Rick also agreed with the headcanon she loves Led Zepplin so i googled to find out if they were lgbt and they weren't but what i learned was enough to let me know they're a hit with lgbt people for a reason
Again,just my own take,but i feel her being pastel and kidcore is more fitting than any other interests and style for her in addition to her being canonically punk and they're both in-character for her since she's got a positive opinion on girly girls and the second one is an excellent coping mechanism for constant childhood trauma
She's at most in-character,well-written and realistic when she just lets herself be instead of trying to be what everyone wants her to and to be brutally honest,this includes the fandom.She's a femme trans woman and i'm right

Since it's been a while, I thought I'd repost this old meme I made from reddit to tumblr. Because I think it's still funny. I also added a four new entries, just for the value add.
WHAT YOUR FAVORITE WORM SHIP SAYS ABOUT YOU
Annette x Danny - You used to be a swinger, but these days you’re totally devoted to your spouse, who can do no wrong in your eyes. You read Worm on a lark after accidentally finding it in a search for a place where you could buy garden worms. You really fell in love with it, and Danny became a point of fascination after you read the Word of God about his potential powers.
Taylor x Greg - You consider yourself a geek, generally speaking, and you enjoy writing but not sharing fanfiction. You always tell your friends that you’ve got a “gamer-fic” coming that will really “shake things up” on Spacebattles, but really it’s just a measly two paragraphs. You know a few words in a notable conlang, but you don’t have the dedication to learn a grammar other than that of English.
Taylor x Emma - You are a 20-something sapphic woman with many, many things unresolved from highschool.
Taylor x Sophia - You’ve never read Worm.
Taylor x Brian - You’re a strict canonist. You don’t buy Taylor in a sapphic ship and you never will, given the Word of God on the matter. You also really like Brian as a character, and feel more than a little disappointed that he got shafted in terms of character development.
Taylor x Lisa - You’re into astrology and you have a fairly active Instagram where you frequently post images of people who you’re attracted to - usually those that are taller and more physically capable, or somewhat frazzled and “natural” looking - with repeated heart emojis.
Taylor x Rachel - You’re an avid reader of lesbian fiction - your favorite classic is Stone Butch Blues by Feinberg - and you genuinely thought that this was the romantic direction that Worm was going when you were reading it back in 2013, just after it had finished. You are, if not a dog person, an animal person in general.
Taylor x Alec - You speak French and frequently brag about it, and you’re a little too open about your interest in BDSM, which reflects all the more poorly on your choice of ship. You still doubt that Bill Cosby actually did anything wrong.
Taylor x Dennis - You are an even stricter canonist. You eagerly await the PHO post every Sunday, and you love staying in character.
Taylor x Amy - You are either a thirty-year old straight single man or a teenaged single lesbian, with no outliers. Either way, both womanhood and cleanliness are alien to you. Clean your room. Take a shower. Make better choices next time.
Taylor x Theo - You're a bit of an off-the wall kind of person, preferring to take a third option whenever available. You think of it as being quirky. You're art school, and picked up Worm in 2016 on a recommendation from a friend on Discord.
Lisa x Faultline - You like women in positions of power, but have no interest in conventional power structures. This paradox was what initially led you to Worm, but you kinda only continued on momentum after Taylor became a Ward. You sometimes like to pretend to be a libertarian.
Rachel x Brian - You think that Taylor is a piece of shit, and that everyone in the Undersiders deserves better than her. You’re really into tomboys.
Rachel x Alec - You have a complex of sexual fetishes, mental illnesses and gender hang-ups previously only thought possible under the rare conditions found in the center of distant stars, the Large Hadron Collider or a person from Florida.
Rachel x Biter - You prefer relationships that are kept on the down-low. You don’t have any social media, really, and you think that’s for the better. You are an ardent believer that quiet is good for the soul and that you shouldn’t say anything if it won’t add anything.
Alec x Aisha - You don’t know what an age gap is, and you’ve never cared.
Sabah x Lily - You adore Sanrio - maybe a bit too much for your age. You have a thing for athletes and jocks, and you really enjoy the whole “cottagecore” trend, regardless of your orientation.
Lily x May - You like knives, and have a collection of them in your closet. Sometimes you think about paying a prostitute extra so that you get an occasion to use them outside of your kitchen. Whether it's you on them, or them on you, you don't really care; you just want to see the blood.
Aisha x Missy - You figure this must have happened at some point, right? Based off of the few lines we get about her love-life it has to be right, right? You really like Mitski, and you’re kind of disappointed in the directions that Ward went, so you’re grasping at straws for a good ship.
Lisa x Victoria - You live somewhere in the Northeast megalopolis. You hate gentrification, and you feel guilty every time you visit a Starbucks - and secretly you like DDs better anyways, but your friends always want to go to Starbucks. You’re not out as bisexual because you feel like you’d be taking up too much room in other people’s lives to jut come out to them.
Amy x Bianca - You’ve tasted so much of boot and cunt and yet you still can’t decide which you like better.
Amy x Siberian - You've engaged with this as part of your general coquettecore, editing-images-of-Hello-Kitty-to-add-gore, hazy images of midwestern American homes and hotels with old decor or no furniture at all, traumacore, Nicole Dollanganger and Lingua Ignota styled online presence. How serious you are about all this is unclear, but you're really into the whole eating fingers thing.
Victoria x Bianca - You think you're really onto something with this. You're working in a new and innovative field of clone-fucking: fucking a woman who is your narrative foil and designed to resemble you in every fashion not by anything in universe but by the author.
Amy x Dean - You seriously thought this was how it was going to go down until Dean died, and that that was her secret. It’s been stuck in the back of your mind as ever since.
Amy x Lisa - You’re a strong believer in picking up a replacement goldfish whenever you exit a relationship.
Carol x Mark - You’re older than the average Worm fan, and severely depressed, but find solace in reading and perhaps a singular hobby. You’ve slowly been releasing a fic that you work on in your free time over the course of the last couple of years. It doesn’t get much attention but the little attention it does get feels all the sweeter.
Carol x Neil - You’ve had a pregnancy scare once or twice with your current partner, who is cheating on their spouse with you. You get why people don’t like cheaters, sure, but at the same time you find little space in your heart to blame them. That’s how you justify it.
Victoria x Dean - You wanted to marry your highschool prom date, and maybe you did. Your favorite show is Brooklyn 99.
Victoria x Ashley - You’re probably gay. You *used* to like Ward, and you were rooting for this ship for the entire run. You really didn’t like the ending but now you’re into Pale, which is a lot better for you, but still frustrating in many ways. You, also, hate Starbucks, and avoid them at all costs, instead opting for smaller, local coffee shops.
Victoria x Sveta - The line between friend and lover is tenuously thin for you, and you worry sometimes about that. In general, you are a very nervous person; when the world gets to be too much for you, you jump into learning a new skill or hobby instead of facing it head on. You’re currently trying to learn Swahili.
Victoria x Fragile One - You enjoy xenofiction and romance. You’re a stickler for canon, and enjoy having a solid knowledge of franchises so that you can help people when they ask for clarification on a part of a work. Secretly, you also enjoy writing smut.
Victoria x Etna - I know it’s you, Marco. Keep up the good work.
Victoria x Ethan - You’re interested in self-improvement. You listen to audiobooks on philosophy while exercising, then relisten once you’re less distracted. You always go down first.
Victoria x Moose - You pretend you're unironically into the whole "women/men who can beat the shit out of you" thing, but deep down you want somebody to bridal carry you. You just don't have the ability to be that vulnerable, so instead you pretend it's a manifestation of hyperviolent sexuality.
Sveta x Weld - You were really sad that they didn’t work out. You think Weld is kind of a pussy and should have stuck it through.
Byron x Missy - Whenever you see a couple in public, you get a little giddy feeling in your chest. You’re not even sure why you like it so much, or why you like this ship, besides the fact that it feels right. Your own love-life, on the other hand, is a mess worthy of its own story.
Byron x Moonsong - You’re homophobic, but you don’t want to be, and so you sympathize.
Byron x Furcate - You’re sweet. You really want the best for people and your goal in life is to do the best for people. You’re very vocal about trans rights, and you probably have at least one trans flag somewhere in your socials, even if you aren’t trans yourself.
Tristan x Venarum - You read Siken. You feel really, really tired of the way gay men are depicted in media, even with mainstream acceptance. You were really hoping this one would be different.
Tristan x Rain - You’re from down South. You’re a quiet type, too, and you keep to yourself when you can. Your favorite book is a well-worn copy of The Picture of Dorian Grey that one of your uncles sent you, before you even had it figured out. You got into Worm because of the powers, but by the end you were really in it for the characters.
Rain x Chastity - You listen to Cult of Dionysus by The Orion Experience on repeat, but when you’re working you prefer to listen to the soundtrack for Hotline Miami. You find a special joy in wordplay, puns and innuendo. You tried a lot of drugs in highschool, but they weren’t for you.
Kenzie x Candy - You never did get over that crush in middle school, did you?
Kenzie x Chris - You’re weird, and I don’t like you. Never go near children.
Darlene x Aiden - You’re an odd duck; you’re fascinated by how children develop senses of love and affection in imitation of adults. You may be a child psychologist, or a rather overbearing parent.
Dragon x Colin - You’re a straight white man from Central Canada who writes web serials for a living.
Assault x Battery - You really, really like enemies-to-lovers fics. You think that Worm should have had more romances like AxB and you’re absolutely wrong.
Miss Militia x Battery - You fantasize of seducing your neighbor away from her husband. She just seems so sad all the time.
Miss Milita x Chevalier - You’ve played through every Metal Gear Solid game, including Revengeance, and liked all of them, but your friends say you didn’t really understand them. You strongly believe in the case for Kurdish independence, but you also really like cops and you’re very pro-American interventionism.
Bakuda x Lung - When you’re not listening to true crime podcasts, you’re listening to Joe Rogan. You’ve experimented many times with a variety of uppers, downers, and hallucinogens. Weapons also fascinate you, so you regularly check in on Forgotten Weapons for a spell to admire their mechanics. Secretly, you think that the Unabomber was transgender, and the MKULTRA conditioning she was subjected to cheated her of a safe transition.
Leet x Uber: You've made some... less than appropriate fanfiction about lets players. Let's all be glad that you've found a new outlet.
Squealer x Skidmark - You consider yourself a party person, but the only reason you’re invited to parties is because you’re the hookup. You hate to admit you like web serials because you think it makes you look less tough.
Sidepiece x Disjoint - You've made small, voyeuristic and mean-spirited thrill-seeking into a full-time job; you regularly visit LiveLeak to get your kicks, and normal porn has started to bore you. Sometimes you make burner accounts online just to make inflammatory comments on your friend's social media. You think that it's a pretty funny prank.
Prancer x Moose x Velvet - You stand by the slogan “Be gay, do crimes,” perhaps a bit too much. You didn't like the Titan arc. You either live in the Pacific Northwest or want to.
Kaiser x Purity - You don’t get why people are so upset about the Proud Boys. They’re just keeping the suburbs safe. You regularly write E88-centric fics.
Night x Fog - You are, beneath everything, rotten - and it gratifies you to finally see someone so much like you on the page. It makes you feel normal.
Shamrock x Gregor - You're not so much a monsterfucker as a monsterlover. Your favorite show used to be Supernatural until you picked up Hannibal. You think Void from Berserk is actually kinda sexy.
Eden x Zion - You listen to Tool.
Eden x Abaddon - As above, but you also have a cuckolding fetish.
Apollyon x Eden x Zion - You’re into hard vore.
Shatterbird x Jack Slash - You’re an artist in a field that requires precision - portrait painting, weaving, diplomacy, or clinical psychology. You have a keen sense of smell, and enjoy fine dining when you can. You find Shatterbird’s hidden want for Jack cute - and you identify yourself with the latter, even if his murders are rather gauche.
Siberian x Jack Slash - You unironically find the words “mommy milkers” arousing and you regularly browse /r/guro.
Crawler x Siberian - You are a masochist because you believe yourself to be a monster. Nothing else can be read from this.
Contessa x Eidolon - You pay exorbitant sums to well-endowed Twitch streamers.
Contessa x Alexandria - You’re a well-put-together, organized person and you want someone in your life who matches that, something you live vicariously through this ship.
Accord x Citrine - You’ve like odd couples, especially those where one is a lot more odd than the other. Where you fall in that equation is 50/50. Your first celebrity crush was on Angelica Huston, 1991, in The Addams Family.
Number Man x Citrine - You’re a corporate climber who read Worm after reading Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, which you read because you thought getting into fanfiction would be a quaint, quirky idea. You frequently theorize about power synergies on Spacebattles during your allotted ten minute coffee break.
Contessa x Number Man - You’re just curious as to what mathematically perfect sex would look like. Would they use toys? Bondage? Could they just-

my exes
(except they’re just people who i am no longer shifting for)
1. dylan kingwell
I was a massive ASOUE fan and quigley was my #1 throughout middle school. i scripted a dr where we would have a teen dream summer of our lives thing and we would be so cute and his fans would be obsessed with me
2. shay rudolph
happened around the same time as my dylan kingwell obsession but this time i was obsessed with the babysitter’s club. we were the same age and she was WAY cooler than me. i think i just wanted to be her
3. timothee chalamet
it was quarantine and i was just a 14 year old girl whose comfort watch was SNL. that and i had recently watched greta gerwig’s little women. i can’t even defend myself on this one because i still find him attractive to this day.
4. mcu peter parker
it was when all those marvel shows were coming out on disney+ and i was really into them. i was tony’s daughter of course and i scripted that i was smarter than both peter and my dad.
5. dash malloy
ngl i still wanna shift to dash & lily because i need a whirlwind romance like that. i also just love dash so much. misanthropic sarcastic boys are my kryptonite. i took over lily’s life but changed a few aspects so she wouldn’t be as cringe. also i am not doing that edgar storyline
6. quinn fabray
i had a glee dr. i am a gleek. i was the most talented member of the club and i got more solos than rachel berry. also santana had a crush on me. i slayed.
7. cho chang
i love cho. she’s my best friend and i just realized i could never shift to a dr where we’re dating. it would be weird. she’s my platonic soulmate not my romantic soulmate.
8. some guy who i had 2 conversations with but had a crush on in sophomore year
i wrote fanfiction about us. i wrote fanfiction about a real person. a real person that i knew in my life. he gave me a high five one time and that was the highlight of my week. i’m ashamed, okay. we all do dumb stuff.

Hi! So first things first happy belated new year!(sorry it's my first time interacting with your blog and I thought I'd start off on a positive note) second things second I wanted you to know I am ~besotted~ with your lore rekindled content , I love the art and how it resembles rachel's old style but most importantly I love the way you depicted persephone , she seems much more feisty and spunky ,she also possesses the agency many fans of the original LO claimed the OG persephone did (but never cared to show why that was the case whenever I asked them) as it is clearly shown, a good example of this is her " "meet cute" with hades at the party where SHE'S the one who approaches HIM, in the OG webtoon it was the opposite and the way hades gawked at her physical attractiveness while she was depicted as alone and vulnerable felt extremely predatory and not at all romantic (the "actual" first time they met with 18 year old or possibly younger persephone being naked on top of a drunk hades wasn't any better sadly:( ) also I'd like to ask a question if it doesn't bother you, (I don't know if you've been asked this before or not)Is persephone still going to be 19 years old in your comic? Or is she closer in age to hades ?I'd be grateful if you answered ! Have a good one❤👋🏻
Awww this was such a nice message to wake up to! Happy belated New Year! But now I wonder what your version of starting off your interactions on my blog with a negative note would have been like? 😈 Bring me allll your salt! (if there is any, I'm also just being a dick LMAO)
Thanks so much for your kind words, I'm glad you're enjoying Rekindled! It's wild to me how people are already loving it this much when like... I've barely put anything out? I think I've mentioned this before but I'm used to putting out like, 40-60 panels worth of stuff on a weekly basis (as Rekindled isn't my main comic project) so the fact y'all have been so sweet to the handfuls of panels I've put out for Rekindled already is like... absolutely wild to me. It blows me away :' 0
As for your question, I'm definitely gonna be age'ing up Persephone, not just because of the questionable age gap but also because her being 19 in LO serves absolutely no narrative purpose. The issue with the 19 year old age gap thing isn't just the fact that the age gap exists, that alone would be fine on its own because there would still be an age gap even if she were 100 or 200 or 500 or whatever have you. The issue is that 1.) 19 is a very specific age to use that has a lot of real world equivalencies to "barely legal" and "robbing the cradle" culture, there are FAR too many real life examples of rich 40 year old men exclusively dating 19 year old girls (Leo DiCaprio, hello?) and taking advantage of them in worst case scenarios and it makes it hard not to draw those parallels with LO when Hades is literally coded as a 40 year old man and Persephone is such a 'mortal' age like 19; and 2.) Persephone is very often framed as being some innocent virgin "valley girl" archetype which is, again, very common when it comes to the May December romance. A lot of gross older man will often specifically target younger women because they can play out their fantasies of "deflowering" a young woman or whatnot.
It's hard not to take issue with the Persephone/Hades age gap when they're constantly being drawn like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Art experts" will argue that it's Rachel trying to make Persephone look "small" to convey the mood but if that's the case, she's failing miserably at it, she doesn't just look 'small', she looks like a literal infant. It also always seems to be happening in real time and outside Persephone's head which makes it come across more as other people seeing her that way, not herself.
Compare it to (and I hate that I'm about to use this as a comparison because I also can't stand this webtoon for how infantalizing it is) Let's Play which does a MUCH better job showing characters' inner emotions through the literal personification of their emotions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Point is, you can convey how a character might feel compared to those around them WITHOUT making them look ridiculous in the story's own setting and universe.
And that's not even getting to how Persephone is treated by both the people around her and the way the comic frames her, there's a LOT of exaggeration put on how "young and innocent" she is and the fact that the comic will take any opportunity it can to draw Persephone in some Vogue magazine like pose even when the scene doesn't call for it is... creepy and distracting, to say the least.
Tumblr media
(this is not the look of a person who is 'lonely', at least not the way she's describing it LMAO)
Anyways. This got off topic. It's taken me like, 3 hours to formulate a response to this because I've had my brain split between like 4 different things today LMAO but yes, Rekindled will be ageing up Persephone, at least just to get her away from the real life touchiness of her being a literal 19 year old girl in a relationship with a 40-coded man. I don't mind or think there's much wrong with reasonable age gaps in relationships, but it's a whole other thing when you make your immortal god character an incredibly relatable age like 19 and then also proceed to overly sexualize them/objectify them/infantalize them every chance you get.
And ultimately, they're gods. Their ages really shouldn't matter as 'age' is a concept that shouldn't apply to immortal beings, Rachel's mistake was making it matter with Hecate/Hera calling out Hades for being into a 19 year old girl. If we're not supposed to raise an eyebrow at it, don't have your in-universe characters call it out either, y'know? That just establishes the rule in the story that age gaps are something even the gods would get upset over LMAO It's just not gonna be a focus in Rekindled because it serves no narrative purpose besides pushing Rachel's gross pro-shipping/DDLG fetish.
And, y'know... I kinda don't wanna encourage any more of this shit:

Is it true that dontnod had their hands tied when it comes to the sexuality of their characters?
It's pretty blatantly obvious. 2015 was a very different time for writing queer characters in games, you have to remember what happened with FOX news and the first Mass Effect game. Games publishers weren't exactly in a hurry to court that kind of press attention again, and from what DONTNOD have said, Square was basically the only publisher who would let them keep Max a girl in the first place. Since I don't work at DN, and I don't crawl through their old interviews, I have to use the text itself to draw this conclusion.
When you look at the game as a text, it's very clear that it's a sapphic love story. Chloe's dialogue makes it very clear that she was romantically entangled, if not actually dating, Rachel, and her room is plastered with pictures of women in sexual or revealing poses, but she never states her sexuality. I don't know if you ever spent any time around queer people, but, uh... that doesn't really happen. The choice to kiss Chloe is also presented as a major choice, something that will alter the trajectory of Max's life, while Warren is... there. Literally the first time the player sees him, Max makes it clear that she doesn't want any physical contact (meanwhile she's constantly touching Chloe). His asking Max to the movies is presented with no special framing and doesn't even happen in the text, Max's time with him is extremely limited while we spend most of our time with Chloe, and the option to kiss him is only a standard dialogue option. You may not even get it.
Go back and watch the morning scene in episode 3 and pay attention to the framing, it's very clearly presented with the cinematic language of a morning after scene, Chloe even smokes in bed after Max gets up. Hell, go play the pool scene and choose the "bro killer" line. Hannah's delivery is perfect for a Max who is utterly smitten with Chloe, and is literally Max saying that she finds Chloe attractive, plus Chloe's disgust at Max's implication that she'd have an easy time dating a guy is very explicit. The entire central thesis of the story is Max and Chloe's relationship, framed around the search for Chloe's missing lover.
And yet... the only time we hear that Chloe loved Rachel is when she finds her corpse, and one of the deleted lines from the sacrifice Chloe ending is Chloe confessing her love for Max. Here's where we hit the "their hands were tied" problem. Editorially, they're only allowed to use that language and framing when there's grief involved. The only acceptable queer love story to a cishet audience is a tragic one, that's where the bury your gays tropes comes from. We never once get a frank discussion of sexuality, or even a flirtatious one like Alex and Steph have while playing foosball.
You can also see shades of this in Before the Storm, especially surrounding Steph. Pay attention to the language Chloe uses to talk about Steph being a lesbian. She never outright says the word, only that Steph kisses girls and that's cool. Honestly, I wish we could have gotten a whole scene of Steph and Chloe talking about how confusing sexuality is, and Chloe trying to parse her feelings with how empty her relationships with boys have been vs what she's feeling for Rachel. Instead we got... *sigh*.
I have to wonder what Life is Strange would have looked like if they had been able to write about the sexuality of their characters in an open and honest manner. As it stands, all we have is a bunch of very blatant queer coding that gets confirmed very quickly but nobody actually says the word gay. Max and Chloe walked so Sean and Alex could run, and I can't wait to see where the franchise goes next.
Maybe we might even get a trans protagonist. A girl can dream.

I think I view romance as a sort of crutch, perhaps, in terms of things I'd like to read. I really like the *idea* of friendship-based stories rather than romantic narratives, and yet I have some weird PTSD-like avoidance of them. This probably is a product of my over-familiarity with fandom and particularly the frustration of the source material. I'm afraid that somehow friendship wouldn't be enough, even though this is unlikely for me. Half the time I actually find the stupider/more immature parts of romance (jealousy, misunderstandings, love triangles, imbalance with the physical attraction, etc) more frustrating than friendship by far. I mean, one main reason I stick to genre romance is that there's little time to spend on those plot lines. I actually prefer extraneous sex scenes to extra scenes about romantic anxiety and misunderstandings. Not to say I don't like well done romantic tension, 'cause I do.
Mostly thinking of this as I found a new sci fi/fantasy author, Rachel Neumeier, and I'm thinking about reading the series starting with Tuyo. It's one of those super-close male friendship fantasy epics that I both adore and avoid like it's kryptonite. It also gets old *always* seeing men and women interact romantically. I actually try to avoid this even in romances-- I like where the female main character is only secondarily 'a woman', as opposed to whatever else she does or wants to do.
I have a lot of the personality preferences of the readers who *never* read romance, except that I constantly do. One of the things I look for that resolves this sort of dynamic is that in a genre/romance *series*, by book 2-3, the couple is usually already together and the focus is on their partnership and meeting new obstacles and their friends and family. Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs-- urban fantasy books in general-- are well established in doing this.
So I've read pure urban fantasy as well as genre romance-adventures but I've been avoiding pure science fiction. In part because it's more often written by male writers who focus on plot to the exclusion of characterization. On top of that, I like a certain kind of character/culture centric story, even if it's focused primarily on plot. Women tend to write that kind of story even with science fiction (eg, some old Ursula K LeGuin or Lois Bujold and Sharon Lee/Miller or Catherine Asaro, and recently I've found Rachel Neumeier and Dorothy Grant).
Anyway, so while I dip my toe periodically in non-romantic fantasy and particularly sci fi by women, I've still been avoiding genre stories (by women) that are about male friendship. There's no good reason for this, rationally, particularly when I only like family stories when they're in the background of an individual's life (though I love that background, and I love Ilona Andrews, Seanan McGuire and Nalini Singh partly for that reason). Without a focus on primarily family dynamics, without friendship what else is there? And this is how I get to settling on romance. I just like books about 1-2 people *primarily*. Even 3 protagonists is really pushing it if they're dominant.
So I'm wondering if I did read Tuyo, would it be a beginning of something? Or would I never get over my fandom trauma. That would be sad.

Pezberry - jealousy on one or both sides. Set during their roommate days Season 4 or 5 pls
I guess this could be read as a mix of season 4 and 5!
Warnings: a bit of angst, self-esteem issues
**
There was something wrong about that Brody guy, Santana was sure of it. He had that annoying million-dollar grin plastered to his face constantly, his hair was always alarmingly perfect, and he had abs you could shred cheese on. Everything was so utterly charming and so artificially attractive on him that it made Santana's stomach roll.
Especially, because it seemed like these cheap tricks, this fake perfectness worked on Rachel. She looked at Brody like he hung the stars and the moon, clinging onto every word he said. She was utterly besotted with him, and Santana hated him all the more for it.
But that was not because she had any romantic interest in Rachel, or anything. She was just simply being a good friend, trying to protect Rachel from potential heartbreak.
Yeah, that was all what it was. Santana Lopez had left the cold-hearted bitch facade behind, now warmer and more caring, and she was practicing being a good person on Rachel. Santana was just testing how loyal and protective she could be. And truth be told, Rachel had gotten hurt all too many times, and Santana didn't want to see those beautiful eyes swimming in tears again.
Wait. Why did she think Rachel had beautiful eyes?
Nonsense, Santana thought with a scoff. She was getting too frustrated with Brody, and now she wasn't able to think straight. God, could he just leave already!? He had been here for hours, giggling with Rachel on the couch.
He had his arms around Rachel, and she snuggled into him, smiling up at him brightly. That smile... how Santana wished she could make Rachel smile like that.
What the hell was that thought again? Maybe she needed to check her head. This loft was so damn dusty, she had probably breathed in the mould that sat in the corner of their bathroom, and it spread to her brain. That was the only explanation.
She didn't realize she was still holding that empty mug that she wanted to put into the sink about half an hour ago. Her hands gripped it so tight, it was a wonder she didn't smash it.
Rachel laughed. It was one of her hearty, full laughs, the ones that showed all her teeth and made her toss her head back. The sound rang in the air like a beautiful melody, and now Santana actually wanted to break the mug against the wall.
She wanted to be the one to make Rachel laugh like that. Not Brody, not any other stupid theater nerd around her, but Santana. She wanted to make Rachel happy, and it felt like a glass shard was pushed straight into her chest at the realization that she never could.
Because Rachel wasn't even interested in women, and she certainly wasn't interested in Santana. What could Santana give her, that Mr. Perfect and the kinds of him couldn't?
Rachel suddenly turned her head and looked at Santana. There was something in her eyes, like a question. Her eyes lingered on her, and Santana couldn't bear it anymore- especially because Brody decided this was the best moment to kiss Rachel.
Santana fled the kitchen, the mug still in her hands.
*
Rachel hated Santana so much. She hated her for bringing up another girl to their loft, for having very loud and probably very passionate sex with her.
How dare she, when Rachel was sleeping in the room right next to her, when she had a rehearsal in the morning, when she ached so badly for Santana.
Rachel squeezed a pillow over her head, trying to shut out the sounds. It took her such a long time to finally admit to herself that she saw Santana as more than a friend. She never had the guts to tell her, and now, look at her, lying in bed pathetically, listening to Santana having sex with someone else.
Rachel knew she was being ridiculous. She had never showed any interest in Santana, had never told her how she felt, how would Santana know that? She had missed her chance, now she needed to suck it up. She had no right feeling jealous over anyone that Santana brought home.
But Rachel couldn't help it. She often wished she had enough balls to trip or pour her oatmeal over the heads of those pretty girls that flocked around Santana all the time. She hated all of them with a burning passion, because they just weren't right for Santana, because they weren't Rachel.
Most of all, Rachel hated herself for not being able to handle this with grace. Why would Santana be interested in her at all? She was not the type of girl Santana liked. She didn't look like a supermodel, she was just plain old Rachel Berry. The one no one would pick.
A tear ran down her cheek, and Rachel wiped it off angrily. Great, now she was crying, too. Truly pathetic. Of course Santana would rather choose anyone else, instead of wasting her time on someone like Rachel.
She heard Santana giggling from the other room- what a rare, but lovely sound-, and Rachel bit down on her lip to stop herself from screaming. She was so fed up, so damn fed up with all of this. She hoped that girl would fall down the stairs on her way home.
After such a horrific night, Rachel hoped for a better morning, which didn't come, as she noticed Santana's hookup sitting at their kitchen table, waving at her like they were friends. Rachel wanted to throttle her.
Santana walked out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel, and sent Rachel a look that she couldn't decipher. Then, she plopped down on that girl's lap, and wrapped her arms around her neck.
Rachel went back to her room, and put the pillow over her face again.

An extremely immodest proposal
When it comes to X-Men's (and Marvel's) Kate Pryde coming out as bisexual, it may've been teased and hinted before though there's this part of me that makes me want to explore her sexuality in a different angle. Supposing if she wasn't just merely friends with Illyana Rasputin but also has such a crush on her that she even masturbates to a photograph of her, and has Rahne Sinclair discovering this in horror that it seems even if she does get into romantic relationships with men it's Illyana whom she has the strongest romantic and erotic feelings for.
To prove this, I'll go a little further that should Illyana be straight and get married to a man to the point where Kate cries a lot when they kiss as if she lost a part of herself, the woman she loved (whom Illyana never reciprocated romantically) betrays her for somebody else. I guess some people who do love somebody feel hurt whenever they realise the person they pine for ends up with somebody else, that it's the most painful feeling and experience to go through.
Charles Schulz has gone through this before, he loved Donna Wold but she ended up with another man and he with another woman. No wonder Charlie Brown pines for her and has heartbreak when she's going away. What Kate Pryde's going through when Illyana marries a man is no different, but it does turn ideas about Kate Pryde's attractions to people on its head. Kate's capable of being attracted to men, but when she's caught dead masturbating to a picture of Illyana and sending love letters to her that's when you realise who she's really attracted to.
While there are some people who pair her up with Rachel Summers, I feel with her having a massive crush on Illyana suggests even if Kate is bisexual or lesbian there are people she's sexually attracted to and those who she sees as a friend even if they're of the same sex. Supposing if I get married to a scientist one day and then I befriend an old classmate, there's one man I'll be attracted to for life and one man who'll just be my platonic friend. Even if most people are straight, there will always be men and women who will be friendzoned and those they marry or date.
It seems when it comes to the depths of one's sexual or romantic attraction, I feel with shipping they've scratched the surface of this. Especially when it comes to the sort of men (or women) people are attracted to and those they merely befriend, with Kate masturbating to a picture of Illyana as a teen and merely befriending Rachel you'd realise why romantic attraction isn't always the way you expect it to be.

Hi!! Just saw your blog and wanted to say that no, if I remember correctly, he never explicitly stated his sexuality. I always hc that he is attracted to pretty and talented people lmao, bc Blaine was both pretty and talented, and I always took the little playful head nod to Rachel in the “I want u back” deleted scene as another, pretty and talented people is what he likes sorta deal. But again, there wasn’t any explicit confirmation so I think it’s safe to hc whatever. Hope that helps!
Hi!! I didn't think he came out and said it either. I've been thinking about how the framing shows that Seb is all about sex and living while he's young (yes, that was on purpose) and how that doesn't really give us a lot about his character. I also think it's kinda funny how this is supposed to be "bad" when Seb does it but not when Noah does it (which is an entirely different kind of bad since he's a minor or barely an adult getting with much older women but I digress).
Anyway! I've been thinking about how Seb could be one of three things. (1) Seb could be bi/pan/(another of similar theme) as you point out. This could also be noticed in the "sexual tension" between Santana and Sebastian in "Smooth Criminal", which I think can exist even if they both swing opposite ways because acting and getting into the song are things. (2) Seb is "gold star gay" and doesn't use SAM and is into men. (3) Seb does use SAM and identifies as aromantic as well as either of the above options.
As someone who is aroace and doesn't really see how monogamy is supposed to work long term, I think Seb could easily fall into the aro umbrella, especially with the way he is written in a lot of fics. Aromantics experience little to no romantic attraction, and the way I've found him in a lot of fics is where he has only experienced this attraction towards Blaine, which is nice as a trope of sorts, but I feel like it fails Seb on a level to not address this. Does he not date anyone else because he isn't attracted to them and doesn't see the point in a relationship with them? Does he try dating but feel like it's just a friendship with more work that isn't fulfilling enough to keep up? Does he try dating but feel guilty/bad that the other is more "into" or feeling "more" about him than he them?
[When I tried my two brief relationships, I felt guilty because they were a lot more "into" me than I them. I don't experience romantic attraction, so I don't really know how someone would feel about only feeling these feelings for one person. This is my extrapolation.]
Anywho, thank you for responding! <3

Here’s my rant about the Joey/Rachel timeline in Friends:
Okay so as we know, Joey is a guy who has “dated” lots of women but always ends up only sleeping with them and not seeing them after. It is strongly implied that he doesn’t experience any romantic attraction but does have sexual attraction. And that’s why the whole Joey/Rachel timeline doesn’t make sense. It starts out with Joey having a crush which isn’t a very realistic crush? It’s more like a “I want to be better best friends with you”. A while later Rachel returns his feelings and they try to date. However, it doesn’t go well and doing more than friend stuff feels weird for them. The timeline ends with a vague conversation where it isn’t really clear what will happen next. And then we never hear about it again.
The thing that bothers me is that this timeline feels very forced and is only to have a Rachel/Ross conflict and then they don’t even execute the idea well??

Soooo now you've watched all of S1-4, when do you think Mondler startted fancying each other? Like, specifically for each of them? Do you think it was always there, or on and off? I count you as the internet's Mondler expert so I'm v interested to hear your thoughts! x
First off, thank you. That's really sweet. This is a huge question and I want to do it justice. Let me know if this makes any sense.
We'll start with Chandler.
I think Chandler has had a crush on Monica almost the entire time he's known her. It might have started as simple friendship but somewhere in those early years as they teased Ross he realised she laughed at all of his jokes and have him all of his attention. No one has ever done that for him before.
I think it happened slowly for him but he's always been aware of it. He knows the reason he doesn't like doesn't like her dates, and even Rachel at the beginning, because she deserves better and she doesn't see him. He tolerates them, of course, and won't say anything about them not being good enough, she deserves better than that. But he can't help but wonder if he'd be better for her than Paul and Alan and Fun Bobby.
Chandler has always found himself dating women that are similar to Monica and that's no accident. He has a type, yes, but it's not strong confident brunettes, it's her. He might not doing consciously and I don't think there's any malicious intent, but every woman he dated reminds him of Monica a little and that's why he's attracted to them and why it won't ever work. Look at Janice and Joanna's personalities and Kathy's haircut.
So, from the beginning he's been aware of his crush on her. It comes and goes, flaring up again when she's hurt or upset or wants to spend time with him above anybody else. He won't ever do anything about it, doesn't want to ruin their friendship, he's never had a family like this one and losing Monica would be the worst in itself but it would also mean losing everyone else. But sometimes he wonders if they could cross the line, if he could put his arm around her on the chair and know it meant something, if he could make certain she would never cry again because of some loser date. Sometimes he wonders if he should be feeling this way, if she can see it, if she might ever feel the same way, and every so often he'll offer him himself, but until London she hadn't taken him seriously.
I think having him crush on her for most of preMondler without intending on doing anything about it most of the time (I don't want to taint those beautiful friendship moments) makes things like Chandler adamantly believing they're "meant to be together" make sense and justify why he thought London was "the most romantic night if his life" and was so upset that it wasn't them finally admitting to themselves they felt something more in The Truth About London.
Monica's a little more difficult.
She definitely had a crush on him the first time she met him. She undoubtedly thought he was attractive and funny and the first person who really, even off-handedly believed in her. Of course he ruined that with a hurtful frat comment and she tried to hate him. And it was easy when he wasn't in her life, but seeing him again made her heart race.
And then she cut off his toe. She's not sure how, but that's when they became friends. Clearly, he was embarrassed by it, but he never blamed her. He would laugh about being teased at school, not sure how his friends had found out, and roll his eyes over the table at her at her doofus brother and it was nice to have someone agree with her that he wasn't God's gift like he thought he was. It was nice to have a friend like him, easy to talk to and constant.
She had thought something might happen between them when she told him the apartment across from her was for sale. She knew it was expensive, it wasn't passed down from a family member, so she thought maybe there was another reason he'd taken it. They had dinner together and walked each other to work and shared their lunch breaks in local cafes and played pool in the bar but nothing had ever happened. They teased and they touched in the most intimate ways, his fingers on the bare skin of her arm when he wanted her attention, but nothing ever eventuated. She started thinking maybe he didn't feel the same.
So her crush for him lay dormant for years. A few times it reared its head, always at the wrong time. She would see him running lines with Joey, playing with Ben, listening to Phoebe talk about her grandmother and her heart would just clench, stopping for a second because she saw him. She saw who he was and what he was capable of and Aurora didn't see it and no one else seemed to want it. It wasn't a crush so much as it was love for him and all he does silently for his friends but because so much time had past and nothing had ever happened, she brushed it aside as anything but what it was.
There were times when she would think he was teasing in the daylight but moonbeams and streetlights shining through her window would make her see the shadows on his face when she thought about the way she had snapped or laughed when she rejected him. In those hours she worried that what she was feeling was that old crush coming back and not merely concern for her friend. She worried he would stop asking and she worried that she didn't want him to.
She had even thought, giddily, that the night they had kissed at Joey's party would eventuate into something more. She often lay awake with the ghost of his lips on hers, his tongue tasting hers and wondered how the universe could be so cruel as to not let him remember it.
It was on their trip home from the beach when he sat on the opposite side of the cab that Monica realised it might be more than merely friendship. He didn't want to touch her, didn't want to press his shoulder against hers or let her rest her head on him and it hurt, deep in her soul, wondering if he would ever offer himself to her again and vowing she would say yes the next time he did. But he'd dropped the subject, she'd asked him to play cards but he didn't out and out ask her the way he had a few days prior and she did her best to let him know she would say yes but she's not certain he got the message.
And then came Kathy. She'd never seen him like that, desperate to be loved by the woman he thought he lived, worried he was hurting his friend. And then doing everything he could to make sure she stayed in his life once they were together. While they were together she had worried that Chandler would leave her, move out to Hollywood to be with this woman who didn't love him back but it was worse after they broke up. He had no time for her and she had no time for him with work and the wedding and giving Rachel advice and taking care of Phoebe and she was mad that he'd won her apartment. They were further than ever before from each other. But then he'd look across the table and hand her part of the paper, or host a pretty good party, or barge into her personal space like he always would and everything was normal, the same as it always was. She's not sure who initiated it but they started spending more time together than ever before. She'd come over for breakfast and he'd plant himself on on the same chair as her when she watched a movie to relax. They made sure they had time just the two of them like they always had, sitting side by side on the orange lounge before everyone else joined them in Central Perk.
Only she knew things now. She knew that he loved fiercely and desired loyalty and was near and tidy and determined. He fought for what he wanted in little ways and protected himself by closing off from everyone but her. She knew he went weeks simply cuddling with a girlfriend and was both so truthful and so good in bed a girl came rushing over to thank her for the lesson she'd given him, not that it really mattered. It was things she already knew, mostly, but maybe the first time she'd seen them all at once.
She'd realised then, somewhere late in season four that he need for him to not be sad, to always be on her team, to sit beside her and help her with groceries, it was more than friendship and she wanted to know where it could lead. And she decided she would once they got back from London.
In short, they've both always had a crush, there's always been something magnetic between them. Chandler's always known but tried to fight it, tried to hide it because he thinks she deserves better, and Monica let her crush get burried under her career and her desire to value his friendship above everybody else's. But she'd always felt it too. And I genuinely think one or both of them would have acted on it in season five even if London didn't happen.
