Bernard just wants to know what the new crime lord’s deal with Robin is. And why— and how— exactly he’s supposed to be a bargaining chip when he can count the times he met Robin on one hand. oh! and could someone maybe tell his boyfriend, Tim, that he’ll be late for their coffee date on Tuesday?

When you idly think about Celegorm possibly being most like Nerdanel of all the sons of Feanor, and then you start thinking about Nerdanel getting a post-Darkening moral decay arc all of her own to mirror her son(s)'s.

#tolkien #san shoots the breeze #Like. My central celegorm thesis is that he becomes what he becomes because he has a specific moral/social worldview #that is actually heavily based on 1) common cultural understanding of said worldview and 2) direct positive intervention from the valar #like he is an acolyte of a specific god and that goes with specific rights and responsibilities for everyone involved #and once the noldor arrive in beleriand that specific framework *collapses*#because the valar can't be fucked and the amanyar don't have the same religious&cultural expectations #so he upholds his end of the bargain as long as he can (both emotionally and materially)#but when it all collapses (structural damage from what happened to ardehel #and then complete collapse from the bragollach) he breaks HARD #and I think there's space for something similar with Nerdanel #who was likely raised in fairly close contact with aule and who stays faithful to the valar as feanor starts to go off the rails #who makes all the 'right' choices! and her reward is the obliteration of her family #and quite likely at least some degree of social ostracization for her association with her husband and children #not sure what her final straw would be though #...possibly it could be celebrimbor's capture and death actually. hm.#Anyway! I just think Nerdanel should be viciously violently angry with basically everyone for at LEAST a century but likely longer

Music I think Roy Kent likes and why

Madonna. In season 3, episode 3, Roy said, "[Pre-Madonna] means before Madonna, female vocalists didn't have to work that hard." This implies a great respect for Madonna and her craft. Also, it's an example of a very specific kind of queer guy misogyny that I find very humorous and implicative (of him being queer).

The Sex Pistols (and other punk rock). Two of their songs are in the Ted Lasso soundtrack. One of them specifically plays when Roy is about to do some pundit work for the first time. I think it's meant to be his hype up music. They're also, of course, anti-fascist and anti-monarchy, which I think Roy would vibe with. He's giving punk.

The music of the Muppets. Canonically (not that I necessarily consider this kind of thing canon, lol) a Muppets fan, I think he'd love the soundtracks to the movies, as well as the numbers they do on the original show.

Rap; Salt-n-Pepa, Queen Latifah, and Beyoncé. I just think he would like them. In season 1, episode 6, Keeley mentions that he has rapped, implying at least some interest in the genre.

Leonard Cohen. I think Roy's Jewish, and he's a broody, sensual bitch. It adds up perfectly. Sidenote: while "She's a Rainbow" by the Rolling Stones was a great choice for the song he runs home to football to, I think Cohen's "Ain't No Cure for Love" would've fucking slayyyed..."I loved you for a long, long time / I know this love is real / It don't matter how it all went wrong / That don't change the way I feel / And I can't believe that time is gonna heal / This wound that I'm speaking of" "I've got you like a habit / And I'll never get enough" "I don't need to be forgiven / For loving you so much"

Klezmer. Again, if Roy is Jewish, and we know he loves and misses his grandad...it's simple. He HAS a record player and a dope sound system, and on his shelves there ARE old klezmer records that he remembers dancing around to with his grandad in their old flat.

Amy Winehouse. Again, if Roy is Jewish, and we know he is broody and bitchy, it is a given. "Rehab" is his anthem when his knee gets bad and he is reluctant to treat it.

Disco; Donna Summer and Jessie Ware. It's just great workout music, and it slays, and if he's queer, well, yes, of course he likes disco.

Pop rock; Elton John and Queen. If he's queer...it's a given. I think he particularly likes "I Think I'm Going to Kill Myself" and "Rocket Man", as he is suicidal (I can't find the interview where Goldstein said this) (it's just Word of God anyway), and the most rocket man motherfucker ever.

The music of the people he loves; Led Zeppelin, Cream, Tina Turner, and Stevie Nicks. Phoebe, Keeley, and Jamie like these musicians. He's a caring uncle, boyfriend, and friend. He is listening and learning. Also, I think Phoebe would be into some weird stuff, like outsider music - maybe some Tiny Tim. I think Roy would also enjoy the music of other friends, from plenty of other genres.

I think one of the most disparraging moments of being a Brit and recieving memes from the U.S.A, was VeggieTales. Hearing that it was some hilarious childrens' show, seeing it was on netflix, booting it up, and finding out that it's verses from the bible near verbatim, with singing vegetables that preach to you.

I felt like I was in a horror movie, where everybody was laughing and clapping along to a TV full of static. Except, instead of static, there was a Christian Cucumber.

#I was not raised Christian. My father is ex protestant and my mother carried on the century-long line of druidism with us #I knew maybe two devout Christians growing up.#And one was the daughter of the Rev XD #It was strange to see people wearing cross necklaces. im considering giving lore bpd or at least trying to code him like he does in my fic..like im always iffy on explicitly coding "evil" characters (a concept i dont really like, especially in the context of a character as traumatized and neglected as lore) as having specific mental conditions but it would make sense for him. and actually it would make him Less Evil to me. like idk man maybe im just projecting onto this guy but he really does strike me less and less as someone whos Aughh Evil Maniac Horrible Person and more as a traumatized kid (using the term kid since, while he is an adult man whos like over 30 by the time brothers rolls around, he was deactivated for most of that time) with an emotional disorder who needs therapy instead of Being Yeeted Into Space

those past few days are really testing my patience with some of the takes and opinions i've seen on the internet and i'm so fucking done with all of this i just want to delete all my accounts from everywhere and live somewhere in the woods (as far away from russia as i can) and to never come in contact with another human being again

#me: the Xianzhou characters are all just coworkers #also me whenever anyone is shown to be fond and have intimate knowledge of some other character: awwww #Like Fu Xuan and Jing Yuan playing starchess and teasing each other or making a reference to things they like #or Jing Yuan talking about young Yukong #Quingque apparently disliking Fu Xuan but obviously that not being the case‚ knowing what she likes and how she thinks #Fu Xuan hiding that she has a sweet tooth but Jing Yuan and Quingque knowing it and teasing her for it #I don't know. There are a lot of instances of these small intimate details in the middle of what looks like a coworker relationship #Good coworkers‚ but coworkers nonetheless #And ironically it moves me so much? Even more so than Belobog. I've been told several times that Belobog seemed more tight. And I agree #In Belobog people were friends or family or companions but linked by something closer than mere coworkers with Wildfire #Even Sampo in the Underworld was strangely 'theirs'. She plays starchess with Jing Yuan #Quingque mocks Fu Xuan for being a workaholic but is very aware of the weight she carries both in her position and ideas about destiny #I won't mention Yanqing and Bailu because there is obviously more than a coworker bound when it comes to them #But yes I love the moments of intimate knowledge scattered through the Xianzhou‚ so telling of the fact that these people have known #each other for longer than several human lifetimes‚ and that perhaps they don't necessarily regard each other as more than their coworker #But perhaps that's enough in order for them to care. Perhaps in a lifetime over one thousand years the intimacy gained with a coworker #through several centuries is something beyond what we could understand in our decades lifespan #But also‚ perhaps‚ I don't know. #i once read a book from like the late 1800s where the author regularly stalled the plot just to talk about how Belisarius was great lol #there are like 5 different sci-fi series about Belisarius #and a ton of just regular books that are totally obsessed with him #i feel like if you pick up any book about sixth-century europe #there’s like a 50/50 chance that there’ll be literal paragraphs of salivating over Belisarius #half the time authors just straight up adapt out or kill off other generals and give Belisarius their accomplishments instead #(this always seems to happen to Mundus and Sittas #rip)#people are OBSESSED with him #he’s definitely among the better-known byzantines and probably the one with the biggest fan club #like Justinian is probably objectively more famous #but a lot of people actively dislike him so it’s not like he’s got a MASSIVE fan club #but Belisarius? definitely has the most fanboys

I think the fundamental problem I have with the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy is how they completely undermines the ending of RotJ.

In real life, I allow, it absolutely happens that 20 years after one great war there is another. Historical victories aren't clear cut like that. But let's be clear: if Star Wars worked like history does the rebellion wouldn't have won in the first place.

So let our heroes have their happy ending! Let them stay heroes. Don't do that.

#in seriousness a lot of civil rights events took place here in selma montgomery birmingham etc. and we have #trails. museums. and a lot of other important sites to explore #helen kellers home is also here in tuscumbia . we also have smith lake which is hundreds of feet deep & has a petrified forest at thebottom #the us space and rocket center is in huntsville #hangoutfest happens here at the hangout in gulf shores which is like a huge music festival #moundville archaeological park near tuscaloosa is a very big deal as it was once a political center for five centuries of indigenousnations #such as the muscogee chickasaw and choctaw peoples #umm also literally any of our parks and trails. this state is so fucking beautiful. our beaches are gorgeous #desoto falls is a must see. we have a couple of really awsome cave systems to explore #cahaba river is beautiful #ummm my state is great if you want to see things that are very pretty. thats why its called alabama the beautiful #also of course to know more about civil rights. go to selma to see the bridge and montgomery has the freedom riders tour and more #birmingham is obviously an epicenter and the birmingham civil rights institute and museum are great
