Seonghwa runs his fingers through his already tousled ebony hair, groaning as he pauses the track sent to him by the producers at KQ. In the dimly lit studio, the neon glow from the computer screen casts a dreamy glow around him. Seonghwa’s brows furrow as he stares down at the pages of his leather-bound notebook. Each scribbled lyric within its pages doesn’t seem to fit the melody given to him.

For Seonghwa, writing lyrics is a territory he’s still exploring and learning. But he wanted to challenge himself this time around, especially since he had received help from Hongjoong while writing lyrics for his rap verse in Bouncy. That experience ignited the desire to create something that will not only awe atinys but also the composers too. But till now, every word he has penned down seems like a discordant note in what he would consider a masterpiece.

With a deep, exasperated sigh, Seonghwa slumps back in his chair. The leather creaks in protest, adding another irritating voice to the cacophony of his own rapidly darkening thoughts. Seonghwa groans again, frustration etched across his features as he tugs at the roots of his hair as though trying to yank inspiration from the depths of his mind.

“You will rip out all your hair if you keep that up,” Hongjoong deadpans from the doorway, causing the elder male to slowly swivel in his chair, exhausted eyes meeting the former’s figure. “You need help?”

Seonghwa’s response is a weary shake of his head, his lips parting, about to reassure his friend, but Hongjoong interjects, his voice laced with concern.

“You need to take a break, Hwa,” Hongjoong implores. “You’ve been cooped up for so long in the studio. That’s my thing, not yours. We’re worried about you, especially since…” He trails off, his gaze shifting to Seonghwa’s forearm, which remains fully concealed by his full-sleeved shirt.

“Oh, it's fine, Hongjoong,” Seonghwa smiles, though anyone can see the fakeness of it. “I'm—”

“—If you say fine once more, I swear,” unable to bear his friend’s hollow reassurances any longer, Hongjoong cuts him off with a firm tone and sits on the vacant chair next to Seonghwa. “I've known you for years, Hwa. And even if I didn't, I would still be able to know that you are not fine.”

Seonghwa's weary sigh seems to echo in the dimly lit room as his gaze drifts up to the false ceiling as if searching for answers among the shadows. 

“I’m not…” he begins, words weighed down by the gravity of his emotions. “How can I be? I was supposed to get my soulmate tattoo on my birthday. And I didn’t.” The words spill from his lips like a lament, each syllable tinged with the bitterness of disappointment. His voice begins to quiver as he continues to speak, “Out of every single person in this world, why is it me who doesn't have a soulmate? Am I not worthy of one? I know I’m not perfect, but…” Seonghwa’s voice breaks, and he finally turns to look at Hongjoong with tear-filled eyes. “Out of everyone, why me?”

“Seonghwa…” Hongjoong begins, but the weight of Seonghwa’s words leaves him momentarily speechless.

Seonghwa lets out a bitter chuckle and shakes his head as if trying to shake off the sorrow that clings to him like a shroud. He rises from his seat, “You won't understand, Joong. You have an amazing soulmate; please take care of them.”

With that, Seonghwa leaves the room, leaving Hongjoong alone in the dimly lit studio. As the door closes behind the taller male, his eyes fall on the lyrics Seonghwa had penned.

“You're right,” Hongjoong whispers in the studio, his voice blending in with the shadows. I don't understand. But I wish from the bottom of my heart that the universe gives you your soulmate. If anyone deserves one, it’s you,” his words hand in the air, lingering like an unspoken prayer, even though he knows that Seonghwa can’t hear him.

As he speaks, a soft breeze gently rustles the curtains, casting patterns of light and shadow on the walls. The room itself seems to hold its breath as if in reverence for the longing that envelopes Seonghwa’s heart.

The world has always worked in peculiar ways as it tries to unite each soulmate pair. On the day one turned 22, the universe would bestow an individual with soulmate marks. Each mark, in one way or another, had the power to help the bearer to contact their soulmate, either through dreams, thoughts, or writing. It is different for everyone but similar in that it all led to one destination: the union of souls.

You had always believed in the concept of soulmates, for it was a belief etched deep into your heart as you couldn’t help but be captivated by the concept. You loved to read about soulmates and heard stories from people about how they met their soulmates. Hearing all the stories from different people, you started fantasising about how you’d meet yours. And by the time you turned 22, there wasn’t a thing you didn't know about soulmates. You had read almost every book you could lay hands on and talked to whoever had met their soulmates. There were some cases where someone didn’t get their soulmate tattoo, but that was extremely rare, and in one generation, not more than one or two people didn’t get their tattoos. But since you had read everything and knew a lot, you thought you were ready for anything.

But nothing could have prepared you for the disaster that struck on the day of your 22nd birthday, a day that was meant for a celebration of destiny. You were happy as you saw the beautiful musical note that was engraved on the skin of your wrist that morning. There was a skip in your step that day until the evening. As you were returning from your classes at the university while listening to ATEEZ, a K-Pop group that you loved for their deep and meaningful music, you became aware of the stinging pain in your wrist. Like a nightmare, you saw the newly acquired music note fade, and the world was enveloped in darkness. When you awoke, you found yourself in the sterile confines of a hospital room, surrounded by your family, who bore expressions of sympathy and sorrow.

A year has passed since that fateful day that shattered your dreams, leaving you grappling with the wreckage of your heart. In a bid to start life anew, you move to South Korea, taking on the role of a translator for a broadcasting network.

As you navigate your new life in a foreign land, the pain of your lost soulmate remains a constant companion, an indelible mark on your heart. The wound is far from healed, but a sense of contentment begins to seep into your life. South Korea, with its bustling cityscape, offers you solace and a chance to rebuild your life.

The rain pelts against the coffee shop’s misty windowpanes, creating a soothing melody of its own. Inside the warmth of the coffee shop, you sit perched upon a cushioned stool, your hand cradling a cup of warm hot chocolate in your hands. The cafe is quite crowded today due to individuals seeking shelter from the rain. The soft chatter of conversations swirls in the air, punctuated by the distant hum of espresso machines and the occasional clinking of cutlery.

As you gaze out at the deserted street, a tranquil feeling settles within you, the raindrops serving as a lullaby to your thoughts. It allows you a brief respite from the storm, both literal and metaphorical, that had rages within your soul.

The sound of the bell, which signals the door’s opening, shakes you out of your reverie. You look up, curiosity piqued by the arrival of a masked figure. The male surveys the room, eyes scanning the available seating options, and his gaze settles upon the only vacant spot next to you. 

With each step the mysterious figure takes to walk toward you, you can’t help but feel that you know them from somewhere. Your pulse quickens when realisation dawns upon you. It hits you like lightning that the mysterious figure is Park Seonghwa.

Your breath is caught in your throat as he approaches. His sultry, brown eyes meet yours, and something clicks inside you. As if controlled by an unseen force, he reaches a hand out for you, and as your fingers meet his, a beautiful star engraves itself on both your and his wrists, a symbol of your intertwined destinies.

Soft Omega Steddie sounds like a dream! I've not read a lot of Omega/Omega fics and I'm so curious how that dynamic will play out.

The Flayed!Billy Soulmate AU story sounds heartbreaking but will probably also be amazing so I'm putting my readers heart (faith/hope) into your capable hands.

UD!Billy also sounds wonderful! I've seen some artwork here on Tumblr with that whole theme and it's always breathtaking.

And it's pretty damn amazing that you are able to write everyday. I wish my brain worked like that but I tend to switch hobbies and right now writing is more on the forefront of my mind. But even then I only write when I 'feel like it'.

I always think commission writing must be so hard to do because it usually does have deadlines and it's an idea from someone else and what if you don't write the idea good enough. (Though my latest fic is from the idea of one of my readers but the idea was very broad and I could add all my little details that I wanted).

And of course you get money for those stories and that adds a whole other level of 'will people like this'. No, I don't think I could ever do that and I find it awesome that you can. 👍

I am SO excited for Omega!Steddie. I really love the intensity that an Alpha/Omega dynamic brings but there is something very very good about Omegas together and you see it a lot in the background of most of my fics, specifically with like, Omega!Ironhawk or in Spideypool it’s Peter and usually MJ— it really brings an extra layer of affection and understanding in a verse that is highly sexual and usually angsty and I adore it.

The Omega!Steddie fic is going to have some amazingly beautiful scenes PLUS I have this new idea for the format/framing of the fic that I’ve never done before and I’m going to contrast it against the Alpha!BillySteve fic “Savage” so it will sort of feel like reading parallel fics. Like a real study in just who Steve H would be and how he would love depending on his gender. Super excited.

The Flayed!Billy fic is… whew. It’s gonna be a big one. I know some people don’t like soulmate tropes but I LOVE them and I love the idea of soulmates having to work and claw and fight their way into loving each other because that makes it so so good. I mean, I love the “we made eye contact and now I’m yours” trope too, it does wonders for my poor bitter heart but soulmate stories where they know they are meant to be together but there is just Too Much in the way at first… all good things.

Re: Writing Commissions: I used to not write them for exactly that ^^ reasons— I was so stressed out about whether or not I’d write the story well enough to justify the readers time and money, like I didn’t even take prompts other than my Sundays with Spideypool because I was terrified of getting one of those “this isn’t what I wanted” messages.

Thankfully I have a really amazing following of readers who know and trust my writing enough to give me the freedom to just sort of GO. They give me an idea and usually just want to be informed of major plot points, honestly most of my readers want to be surprised by the end product and I love that so much. I do get some commissions that are very detailed right down to “they should say this in the marriage proposal” but other times I’ve gotten m commissions that are literally “I want Spideypool and make it bitey, plot doesn’t matter.” Andnsince I generally have no idea what a word count is, my readers know if they give me some leeway within the basic parameters of the fic, they’ll almost always get something way bigger than what they paid for.

I’ve been lucky enough to only have a few times where I ran into someone that was so overly picky about what they wanted that I ended up doing four or five rewrites and/or continuously wanted more story than they were willing to pay for (ie: wanted a 5k word price but refused to budge on any ideas even though I told them repeatedly it was too much story for that price point) so I just don’t work with them anymore.

Generally though, my commission experience has been amazing AND since I email my commissioners literally constantly (LITERALLY constantly, most of my 50k + fics involve hundreds of emails worth of communication) I’ve had the chance to meet and become friends with some honestly lovely people. My commissions and KoFi page all go directly towards my stack of medical bills and I’m always so so grateful for every single one.

Listen I WISH my job was actually being a writer but uhhhhh life is too expensive for that so until I find a sugar mama ready to spoil me and let me write all day long, I’ve also gotta do the 9-5 thing 😂

Okay so actually the other day, I got hit with the craving for an Alice in Wonderland AU and was like OH I really want to read that! As far as I can tell, I don’t think any Naruto/Boruto fics exist as such 👀 Even so though…I would love to read about Inojin getting lost down the rabbit hole like how cute would that be? 🥹 Maybe Shikadai as the Mad Hatter even? Idk I think it would be a really fun time 😊

23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?

Ooooh I love this question! Still very knew to fic writing, so there are a lot of things I’ve not gotten the chance to write about yet. This answer isn’t an AU, nor really a trope…hopefully it counts as a concept?

I think the one that I am most excited for (and also slightly worried about tackling) is a canon-verse story where the kiddos are on a mission. Like not just a cute or angsty little scenes that can fit into the already existing canon, more like an epic. A new mission with new enemies, new characters they have to help on the journey, fight scenes with new and already existing jutsu. The kind of story that’s the perfect arc where the characters face the biggest struggle they’ve ever had to overcome, and they fight blood, sweat, and tears learning new lessons about themselves, eachother, and the village along the way.

I think that is what I am most looking forward to hopefully getting to work on this year. I’m sure it will be fun, but mostly I know it’s gonna be a challenge for me to get it right. And I really want to push myself to write something beyond what I think I’m capable of ❤️

Taylor Swift Meets Hockey RPF: Advent Calendar Day 23

The 3rd ficciest Taylor Swift song of all time is…

Song: Teardrops on My Guitar Album: Taylor Swift Year: 2006 Lyrics: https://genius.com/Taylor-swift-teardrops-on-my-guitar-lyrics Ficciness Rank: #3 Well, put some pining in a blender and drink it up, it’s basically this song. At one point I made a “pining” playlist on iTunes and this was the only song on it. This song is so piney you can trim it with tinsel and put it in your living room for Christmas.

To be fair, this song does have some specifics that make it not great for hockey, which is what bumped it down to the #3 slot: I don’t have a pairing with a Drew in it, for one thing, and also most hockey guys can’t play guitar (unless they’re Adam Burish). But aside from those details, this is 100% top-quality grade-A pining fic. Even better, it’s pining for someone who keeps talking about a girl they like–in other words, the perfect setup for a hockey boy who’s haplessly fallen in love with his teammate.

Just gonna quote the opening as an illustration of the intensity of pine we’re dealing with here:

Drew looks at me I fake a smile so he won't see That I want and I'm needing Everything that we should be I'll bet she's beautiful That girl he talks about And she's got everything that I have to live without

UGH it’s so angsty, I love it. Faking a smile, classic; envying the girl who gets to date this person you so desperately want, uh-huh, we’ve all been there. Okay jumping to the third verse:

Drew walks by me Can he tell that I can't breathe? And there he goes, so perfectly The kind of flawless I wish I could be She'd better hold him tight Give him all her love Look in those beautiful eyes and know she's lucky 'cause

The physical details she includes, oh man. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Taylor Swift is masterful at conjuring that visceral bone-deep longing for someone you (think you) can’t have. And wanting the object of your love to be happy even if it isn’t with you, argh, our piner is caught in the worst (best) kind of martyrdom.

Because I probably shouldn’t quote the entire song, let’s take it home with the transition into the last chorus:

So I drive home alone As I turn off the light I'll put his picture down and maybe get some sleep tonight 'Cause he's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar The only one who’s got enough for me to break my heart

That last line kills me, goodbye, I am dead. Bury me in the pine grove.

Pairing I’d assign to this song: I’m going all the way back to Hallsy and Ebs for this one, because this song feels like it needs a high school AU and they are the epitome of bumbling teenage boys (in the best way, of course. “Idiots to lovers” is a trope for a reason).

So this is a high school AU, and they’re in the same year because it’s fic and we can do whatever we want. They’ve been best friends for years now, and the most popular girl in school has just asked Taylor out. Jordan’s jealous, obviously, because everyone wants to get with her, but also he gets it–who wouldn’t want to ask Taylor out? He’s so good at hockey and so fun to be around and so good-looking and…oh no. What if it’s not the girl Jordan’s jealous of after all?

All of a sudden he’s noticing all this stuff about Taylor he never paid attention to before. The way Taylor’s eyes crinkle when he laughs. The way he’s always laughing at Jordan’s jokes, and the fluttery feeling Jordan gets in his stomach when it happens. The way Jordan can’t pay attention to anyone else when Taylor’s there, like the whole room is dim except where he’s sitting. Jordan is doomed.

He starts avoiding Taylor and his new girlfriend. He makes excuses to avoid group activities when they’ll be there, and he stays home playing the guitar that he’s always a little embarrassed to own. Like, he’s a jock, he doesn’t do emo music stuff, but all of a sudden songs are coming to him and they’re ridiculously sappy and angsty but he writes them down anyway.

Taylor and Jordan are best friends, though, and Taylor obviously notices when Jordan starts avoiding stuff. He comes over and confronts him at home. “What’s wrong?” he asks, eyes all sad and irresistible. “Do you not like Allison?” And Jordan wants to lie–wants to make up something bad about her, bad enough that Taylor wouldn’t want to date her anymore. Taylor would believe him; they’re best friends. He could get Taylor to be single again.

But he doesn’t really want that. It would just make Taylor sad, and eventually he’d start dating someone else; it wouldn’t get Jordan what he actually wants. There’s probably no way to get Jordan what he actually wants. But if he does try for it, he wants it to be by telling the truth, not by lying to the person who trusts him most in the world.

So he starts working harder on some of the things he’s been scribbling down. He polishes one of them up until it’s a whole cohesive song, one that he thinks isn’t actually terrible, maybe. And then he signs up for the school talent show. He’s gonna play it in front of the whole school, and if Taylor figures out who it’s about…well, Jordan can always deny it. Anywyay, he can’t actually be more miserable than he is right now, right?

He goes through with it, playing the song and singing even though he’s so nervous he feels like his throat is going to close up. The audience is such a blur that Jordan can’t see how any individual person is reacting, but the crowd loves it. A bunch of his friends come up to him afterwards to congratulate him. Taylor’s there but he’s weirdly quiet, and he hangs around once everyone else starts to leave. Finally it’s just the two of them, and Taylor looks at him kind of sideways and says, “That song…was it about me?”

Jordan takes his entire courage into his hands. “Yeah,” he says.

Taylor’s face melts into a smile. “Good,” he says, and steps in to kiss him.

1. When are you usually online?  

I’m kinda online on discord most of the day, because I have it on my phone. I don’t always read messages or reply though. On tumblr I’m online on evenings, but not every day. I don’t have regular online times to be honest :)

2. What verses are you involved in outside of this page?

I have 3402384 verses in my head and not enough time to write any of them. I never counted, I don’t know :) Some are more developed, or plotted with other people, some are just extended headcanons or ideas I haven’t written down yet. I should probably do a verse page sometime, but I am not that organized~

3. What is your biggest RP pet peeve?

Character/ship policing and cancel culture. And on a less serious note, people whose thread RP replies are a summary of my initial post from their character’s perspective as exclusively internal monologue with no new actions for me to reply to in my next answer :)))) That makes me feel like I am writing a fanfiction on my own.

4. Are you drawn to specific types of muses?

Maybe? But I’ve always had quite a variety of muses in all my fandoms. I do tend to make everyone angsty and depressed headcanons though :D So maybe my type just is “secretly depressed”, and I like insane villain characters that I get cancelled for like Viserys, Ardyn, or Wen Ruohan. Oh also, male muses. I almost never write female muses.

5. Are there recurring themes in your writing that people might not notice?

Ehmm, not sure, actually. I tend to recycle tropes that I love every now and then, but those aren’t specific to me. I think with certain characters there are often themes of loneliness and accepting a bitter fate that I like to throw into my stories. But I also usually write happy endings. I always fall into the same h0rny tropes, too. Haha.

6. What are your favorite RP trends?

Meme sentences !! They’re perfect for people who are too busy for full-blown threads, they’re great ice breakers, they make good crack ship moments, they’re just awesome. Dashboard/tag games (like quizzes) are fun too! I actually also really like the icon trend. We used to RP with gigantic GIFs of various sizes haha, icons make everything look very neat.

7. What is your process for starting a new story with someone?  

Usually one of us has an idea, in my case that’s often specific scenes that I then develop a setting out of, and then we yell at each other in excitement, or we plot like mature adults (lol). Lately I have been too busy for rp threads tho, so it’s mostly just been.. memes set in specific verses.

8. How do you feel about duplicates?

I don’t mind them, I’ve always had a least a few friends who wrote the same muses as me. Sometimes it makes me insecure about my own portrayal to see others who are super amazing good at writing them, or are very active while I am super slow, but that is 100% my issue and nobody else’s. I would never want to discourage someone from writing the same (canon) muse as me, and I don’t avoid them either.

9. How long have you been involved in roleplaying?

For almost 17 years now.

10. Is there a muse or verse you wish you could write in, but haven’t?

All my muses and verses, man. I have so little energy to write lately I’m not making any progress 😥 I have a lot of ideas and things discussed and ships in the pipeline but actual writing is not happening lately.

1. What type of fic? Are we feeling in the fluffy mood around Christmas? Possibly angsty heartbreak to really get a good cry? Or perhaps some hurt/comfort to get both? The possibilities are endless and as your Santa, I am here to deliver! (I don’t write smut though because the minute I type the word “cock” or “dick” I immediately start laughing (I swear I’m not a child))

2. What universe? To say that the possible settings for this fic are endless would be an understatement. Gwynriel are soul mates no matter where they are but for this fic what is your ideal setting? Modern AU? Canon verse? Possibly other book or fictional worlds?

3. Do we want other characters too? Gwyn and Az will be the focal point of the fic of course but what are we feeling for the other characters? Would you like to read about multiple ACOTAR characters to be included or just Gwyn and Az alone?

4. This is one I’m most excited to ask! What kind of tropes would you like to read about? Rival to lovers? Friends to lovers? A meet cute or even a meet ugly? There was only one bed? Fake dating? Hi again!! I’m so excited to dive into these questions, but I’d first like the record to state that I’m both incredibly indecisive and easy to please so I’m sure I’ll love whatever you come up with. If there’s something you’d think I’d like or if there’s a specific idea/element that’s exciting you, feel more that welcome to lean that way.

Anyways…

1. Honestly I love a fic that can make me both laugh and sob (the duality of woman, etc etc). A combination of peak romance but having to work for it is something I love to read, especially if it means I can feel more emotionally connected to the characters.

2. I personally enjoy AUs (whether it be modern or in a fantasy setting). I love seeing characters put into *situations* and see how their dynamics play out. And honestly, the sky’s the limit!!

3. I love seeing the whole gang there. Since its gwynriel, I always like seeing their interactions with Nesta/Emerie and Cass/Rhys, but any character is more than welcome to stop by in my ideal fic.

4. Did I mention I’m indecisive? Rivals to lovers has always been my soft spot (I mean the potential for banter is endless). But I will read and enjoy almost anything. Meet cutes are amazing, but I think I prefer when there’s some established backstory (mutual pining is *chef’s kiss* but for a rivals situation, I would even enjoy it if they genuinely hated each other).

What would recommend for a good unrequited love fic? Maybe the reader has fallen for Bucky but he doesn’t return the feelings (at least initially).

Well, nonnie, I definitely looked through my little rolodex to find you something. Let me just say that unrequited love usually falls into a lot of angst territory, which isn’t something I partake in too terribly much. But I found some fics to recommend which might fit the bill.

Let’s start with the two fics that immediately popped into my head when asked for unrequited love fics. Both are on AO3, but they are just so goddamn good. I had to include them (and I don’t know if the authors are on Tumblrs).

Unrequited by justsomebucky (this one is only available to members that are logged into AO3, but it is prime unrequited masterpiece and totally worth the read)

Speechless by justanothersong (Soulmate AU with some very nice angst)

Then there are the ones that I think fit the bill in some way that I have found on Tumblr. 

Seeing Red by @mypoisonedvine - still ongoing and from Bucky’s point of view (he’s the one whose love is unrequited), such great writing and really sexy

Dynamite & Whiskey by @jtargaryen18 - finished and with Andy Barber (which I hope is okay, you mentioned Bucky but I wasn’t sure if that was the only character you’re interested in), this falls maybe more into mutual pining, but there are definitely moments that hit like unrequited love, definitely worth the read and an amazing story either way (I’ve read it multiple times)

She by @drabblewithfrannybarnes - short little one shot with Natasha, prime unrequited love content, just a little angsty (it hurts so good) and beautiful, almost like something wonderful is about to happen

Teddy Bear by @softlybarnes - one shot with Bucky, Soulmate AU with lots of angst, from Bucky’s perspective, though there’s some pining from both sides it feels sort of like unrequited love in a lot of ways, so well written and interesting soulmate connection

Say It by @stargazingfangirl18 - one shot with Ransom Drysdale, some unrequited love from a FWB situation, real cute, Ransom is written so well in character

Arrangements and Relationships by @tuiccim - one shot with Bucky and Steve (not Stucky), definitely some unrequited love, lots of angst, really mature story about love and the journey to falling in love

I hope this is a good list for you, nonnie. naturally, your curiosity wins you over. flipping open the cover, you hope that this person has the notes you need and you can cram off of them before returning it after the test tomorrow.

from the front cover to where the writing stops about two-thirds of the way in, the notebook is full of moody art and angsty poetry, not notes on brain chemistry. brow furrowed, you stop to read a recent entry, powerless to curb your morbid interest in whatever this mysterious person has going on in their head.

planets and stars locked in a dance

tied together, but fated to be apart

because when they collide

they will both, always, die.

but people want what hurts them

and all i want is for you to pull me in.

before you stop yourself, your pen is already moving across the page to add, off to the side, away from the words encircling a sketch of a person’s back set against a black-and-white planet.

sorry i grabbed your notebook by mistake! i hope you find a way to tell your star how you feel.

you know you left the notebook at the front of the room during the exam. you placed it there, walked back to your desk, and dutifully took your midterm.

but, since the thing currently sits on top of your bag, and you didn’t notice someone put it there, you shamefully realize that you aren’t as stealthy or as attentive as you thought.

“embarrassing,” you mumble, grabbing the notebook with the intention of putting it back up front – maybe someone thought you put it there by mistake and was returning it.

then, you notice the sticky note waving at you from the top of a middle page; that wasn’t there this morning.

what do you think of this? is all the note says, but underneath is a short verse written on top of a quick, shaded sketch of a night sky.

if we are all made from the same thing as stars

then yours was the brightest,

and it became even brighter

when it turned into you.

even you blush at that despite knowing that it isn’t for you. biting back your smile, you grab your pen to respond:

this is lovely. i hope they know how lucky they are when they read it.

and, excited for your pen-pal, you leave the notebook where you hope it’ll be found.

you decide to come to class extra early to see if you could, as covertly as possible, figure out whose notebook you’ve been writing in, deeply invested in this person’s confession to the one they like.

and then suna rintaro, the guy who sits behind you and never says anything unless it’s admonishing your “stupid questions” or the fact that you “try too hard” is the second person to show up for class. you internally sigh; having him there means he might see you meet the notebook’s owner, which would definitely result in teasing for you. when he lays his hand on the notebook as if he’s about to take it, your body reacts before your brain, and you’re at the front of the room, fury and fear in your eyes.

“why are you taking that notebook?” you accuse, hands already flailing to swipe it from him.

his nose wrinkles into a disgusting grimace as he holds it behind his back, stepping away from you. “why would you care?”

you suck in a breath. if you were just a little faster, just a little taller, you might actually be able to pry it out of his hands and high-tail it out of the room before he knows what happened.

no, you rationalize, no one could do that.

but, you also know that you can’t just tell him that you’ve been exchanging romantic advice with some stranger in your class. the absolute last thing you want to give him is another reason to bully you after half of a semester of enduring his snide comments behind you.

“well?”

“because it’s not yours!”

“that so?” with an ice-cold stare, he raises a petulant eyebrow at you before flipping the notebook open – something that makes your heart jump into your throat – and grabbing a pen to write.

people want what hurts them

and all i want is for you to pull me in.

your heart crashes to the pit of your stomach when you see that the handwriting is identical. all you manage to do is stare, wide-eyed and dumbfounded, while suna rintaro brushes past you, his notebook under his arm and your fantasy destroyed.

you can’t bring yourself to watch as he leaves. he’s the one who ruined the one thing that you looked forward to every day, so you hate him even more than you did when all he was to you was a jerk in your psychology class.

but now, he’s a jerk in your psychology class who stole your joy, crushed your dreams, and writes really nice poetry.

you can’t decide if you hate him or yourself more.

the sense of dread when you walk into class the next morning and find the notebook with a new sticky note in front of your seat is palpable. you consider throwing it away, or even throwing it at him, but, when you don’t see him in the room, you decide to humor yourself if only for the sake of the last shred of romanticism whispering in your heart.

your breath catches when you open the notebook. thick, black lines glide over the page, each stroke curling into the next until a visage that makes your face heat up forms right before your eyes.

it’s the sketch of a person in front of a planet, but, this time, the focus is on their side profile instead of their back, and the obvious hits you. the sketch is of you from the angle where rintaro sits behind you in class, and the faint glow surrounding you illuminates the planet, now colored in with bright blues and purples.

your light colors my sky

if the few times we met didn’t hurt so much

or if a collision didn’t scare you

“maybe you wouldn’t be pushed away,” a quiet voice finishes as you read, dumbfounded. rintaro towers over you, looking away with red ears and nervous eyes. you didn’t notice him come in.

he clears his throat and starts to take the notebook back, mumbling something like an apology, but your grab his wrist to stop him.

“maybe,” you say, surprising yourself while the ice-cold wave of realized feelings washes over you, “stars are just alone so long, that they don’t know what to do when a planet shows up.”

eyes flicking up and down between his wrist and your face, rintaro’s lips form a thin line, and you think it’s over – because planets and stars rarely, if ever, meet. but then, he twists his hand to curl his fingers around yours, and you think that, maybe, it’s only just beginning.

Excellent question, and yes, I do! I'm one of those readers who never give up on a story even when it hasn't been updated in a really long time, and sometimes, my patience does pay off. And that's just the BEST feeling ever, to wake up to an announcement that a long dormant story has been continued or completed! It doesn't just make my day, it makes my entire year. Or decade, if that's how long it took for the story to be finished :-)

- Walking Down the Aisle by @itsdinagoldberg. Arranged Marriage AU. I love this, and hope the author will continue it one day. Such an interesting premise. Last updated in October 2014.

CYOA: Goro Akechi and his very hungry roomba by bloominginthenight | T | 4.6k | a completed shuakeshu choose your own adventure crackfic, centering around akechi and his roomba. i highly suggest reading all of the routes because this is REALLY fucking hilarious.

how joker and crow survived in the ever-evolving world shaped but not entirely defined by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and 2021 by shantealeaves | T | 12.7k | a oneshot centering around joker and crow in the pandemic and how they cope with everything. haircuts are a central motif in the work and i love the characterization. reading the previous work is not required, but i recommend that one as well!

persona 3 fics

Eurydice’s Vow by crescentmoontea | T | 13.6k | a very phenomenal ryomina fic that takes place within the third semester of p5r. the characterization of this fic is amazing; it’s very reminiscent of their dynamic in the movies! this fic is just three chapters of completed bliss that will absolutely make you cry. (also features background akeshu, if you squint)

Hours at the End of the World by TwilightKnight17 | G | 5.4k | a completed multichapter ryomina fic that explores a canon-divergence AU that changes the outcome of January 31st. this work is the first in the series known as the Hours ‘Verse, which also includes Persona 4 and 5 (which I’d also recommend checking out if it interests you!).

69912 by neonsign | G | 2.1k | ryomina oneshot that explores their first kiss! i really enjoyed the characterization on this- it’s short and sweet.

13191 by neonsign | G | 959 | a very short ryomina oneshot that focuses on the two from the perspective of an established relationship. it’s very bittersweet but it’s a cute and cohesive scenario nevertheless!

held in the arms of your words by superheroics/synthetica | T | 4.1k | angsty ryomina oneshot that focuses on their relationship on christmas eve. it depicts ryoji’s POV from a second person, and how he uses every language of the earth. a very clever and poetic fic that will make you cry your insides out.

telling eyes by Katseester | G | 2.1k | ryomina oneshot that depicts their relationship at various stages within the canonverse timeline. it’s such a meaningful rendition of their relationship and i enjoy the characterization and internal monologue/narration SO much.

This Boy’s in Love by ang3lsh1 | G | 1.9k | AU where minato is a DJ and ryoji pulls some strings for minato’s success. it’s a brief oneshot- but it’s a fluffy and entertaining one at that!

Take Care by teamchaosprez | G | 1k | very short and sweet ryomina oneshot where ryoji visits minato and takes care of him. i would love to see more of this scenario but it’s super cute and fluffy nevertheless!

just like heaven by megidolaon | T | 2.9k | a bittersweet ryomina oneshot that showcases the mutual understanding/same wavelengths of their relationship. the fic has some all-around somber/quiet vibes and it’s super lovely.

Under the Moon and the Stars by BkZa555 | M | 13.2k | a ryomina oneshot with BANGING characterization. it’s a beautiful rendition of these two getting together BEFORE december and the emotions feel super tangible. the fic does feature sexual content, but the fic has dividers so if that’s not your thing, you could skip it. either way, the characterization is great!

New Year’s Eve by KiraLioden | T | 6.1k | a completed ryomina multichapter fic that focuses on the emotions that ryoji, minato, and hamuko experience on 12/31 through alternating perspectives. i really like all the interpretations here, as well as minato and hamuko being twins!

COLOR RUSH EP 1 AND 2- OBSERVATIONS AND COMMENTS

Wow Wow Wow. The thrill and pleasure, I have just received from watching Color Rush episode 1 and 2, whilst learning about this new trope with the color verse world that I've never heard of before. It is intriguing to see a soulmate au done this way, it's cute, you're meant to be excited and soft when they meet, it's meant to be happiness and love and longing. But what we get with the Korean Bl Color Rush is far from that, there's angst, drama, fear and exhilaration from the idea that our couple might be a danger to each other instead of actually saving each other.

With hints to themes of losing control like madness and obsession and the psychological toll being a mono ( having neurological colour blindness and has dampened emotions). First of all, there are clues of books laid around like the one a side character was reading Macbeth. That's a worrying hint to what this show is exploring. It's going to show the frightening aspect of a mono's dependence on their probe to see colour, the addicting, obsessive, hunger once they have a colour rush.

It's dangerous especially with how Yeon Woo explains it, people have killed for this feeling, people have chosen to break the law, and people have died to prevent themselves from doing something awful to their probes. It's beautiful to see Yeon Woo meet his person, but it's scary to think that it's going to cause him to spiral and lose himself even more. Something he's trying so hard to avoid.  This connection whilst fated is not a glamorous one, it's shockingly filled with angst and disturbances, but it's brilliant, and it's keeping me on my toes.

In episode 2, we see another hint to this dangerous connection forming the praying mantis;  how a female survives by eating the head of her male lover after they get together. It's obviously another resemblance to our soulmate connection's theme and reality. What do we do when we're falling for a couple that may very well need to be separated for both to stay mentally sane and rational? We see the effects on Yeon Woo again, like hit after hit of a drug he's started to demand and lose his temper because of his fear of losing the feeling when he sees colours because of Han.

It's just brilliant, Korea has done it again they've chosen an ambitious plot, and they've taken BLs to a new level. The issue? This should be like every other Kdrama and have one-hour episodes and it breaks my heart that it's 15 minutes and only 8 episodes. But for now, the 15 minutes don't feel like a disadvantage. Still, I can't help but moan about the fact that this could be one of the best deep, angsty, emotional bl dramas if given more time to shine and work on its plot. Then again, sometimes having long runtimes can make a show laggier and include extra scenes that aren't needed. We'll see how that turns out with this drama. With Korean Bls though, it's been the latter; we want more minutes, we want more episodes, we want more of this because it's terrific to see honestly.

It's not just the unique soulmate AU, Color Rush seems to have. It has a plot hinting to the mystery about missing people, including our main character's mum who's been missing for quite a while. Also, she's not the only one; many Monos are going missing. This is intriguing, who's targeting these monos a probe bent on revenge? Another mono who's gone crazy and wants everyone to be unhappy because they didn't find their probe? What could it possibly be? Or did they all just run away because they knew they were being taken down into a darker hole because of their need to depend on their probe no matter how hard they try to prevent it? Are they being experimented on by some weird company?

I'm so interested and ready to see where this show takes us. I rarely write so much for the first episode of a drama, but this BL is already screaming meta, depth, love and angst that can be broken down and looked into. I'm so excited, and I cannot wait to go on this journey and watch this story get stronger and stronger. Thank you Korea for always choosing ambitious exciting and unique plots, this is why we need more Bls in Korea, we need this, we need to see this more, we need to know these storylines more, and we don't want it to stop. Just get better and better each year. Color Rush is a fantastic beginning to 2021. And I can't wait to see where it takes us.
