i think a lot can be said that nico's sword is one of the very few in the entire series that can harm mortals. especially when you consider that the only other (that i can think of, anyway) is luke's, and the implication that nico could have very easily have joined the titans' side, which backs up everything else about the situation he's in in botl.

also, but to a less extent, it's interesting that stygian iron is explicitly so rare, and has to be directly taken from the styx, showing that he directly went out of his way to be different.
