"You look terrible".
You jolted at Seungmin's remark, feeling your heart race after he had crept up behind you while you focused on neatly placing the freshly made cupcakes in the showcase.
Without saying a word to him as you tried to calm down from the sudden scare, your eyes focused on the large Caramel Macchiato he had placed by you on the counter, smiling softly at his silent show of affection.
"A 'hello' would've been appreciated too, you know?" you hummed, straightening up and leaving the half-emptied tray on the counter before your eyes met your friend's unamused ones.
"I see you every day. Thought we were past hello's by now" he shrugged.
"Are we?" you scrunched up your nose.
"I mean, we should be because it's tiresome to—Just drink your damn coffee".
A throaty laugh escaped your mouth at his sudden exasperation, not waiting another second to follow his order and take a long sip of the beverage he had prepared for you, feeling your muscles relax as soon as the sweetness of it reached your tastebuds.
"Is it good?" he asked.
You rolled your eyes. "You already know the answer to that, you cocky bastard".
"Doesn't hurt to hear it every once in a while" he smirked proudly.
"What did I even do to deserve a coffee made by the Kim Seungmin anyway?"
"Oh, don't act like you don't ask me to make you at least three of these every day".
"Ask is the keyword" you pointed out, taking another sip of it.
He sighed, finally dropping the playful mood and leaning against the wall. "You seemed out of it…"
"Aww, were you worried about me?" you brought a hand to your chest.
"Shut up," he mumbled. "You didn't even hear me come in. I was literally right next to you making your coffee and you wouldn't notice. And your face is…"
"Do I look that bad?" you wondered.
Seungmin shook his head no, yet the concern on his face was clear. "Just tired as hell. Did you get any sleep?"
"Not really," you sighed, leaving the cup on the counter and running your hands over your face. "I'd say I got like three hours of sleep at most".
"Something happened?" he tilted his head.
You lowered your head, and that was all it took for him to read you like an open book.
"Did you get the invitation?"
You felt the air being punched out of your lungs at Seungmin's question. You had hoped that particular question wouldn't be asked at all that day. You had hoped the topic as a whole wouldn't be brought up. But it was Seungmin, you should've expected him to be up-front about it.
You sighed, nervously wiping your hands against your apron before turning around to head towards the cash register — with absolutely no other purpose than to avoid this conversation.
"Did you?" he pushed it, following hot on your heels. "Y/N, come on".
You said nothing.
The answer was so obvious, you wondered why he wanted you to confirm it to him so bad.
Had it been facing upwards all along, you wouldn't have felt your heart being stabbed by a thousand knives.
Of course you had gotten the invitation. It had been lying on the floor of your apartment all day, patiently waiting by the door for you to arrive.
It had been the first thing that caught your eye as soon as you entered your place, and you cursed at whoever decided to slide it downwards under the door. Had it been facing up, you wouldn't have felt your pressure drop the moment your eyes fell on it. You wouldn't have felt your knees go weak and tremble as you reached down to pick it up, and you wouldn't have felt your face heat up at the same time that tears welled up in your eyes.
Because, for the five seconds that it took for you to kneel down and pick the delicate creme envelope up, and for the ten others that it took for you to gain enough strength to flip it over in your shaking hands, you believed the names on the invitation would be the same two that were the cause of your heartbreak.
Hyunjin and Minji, you said under your breath — cursing once again, over how even their names sounded perfect next to one another.
Please, don't be Hyunjin and Minji.
Please.
As soon as you flipped it over, you felt pathetic. How scarred did you have to be for your first thought to a wedding invite being that Hyunjin and his best friend were getting married?
It had been nearly eight months now since you broke up with him, you would've thought your body wouldn't get such a reaction out of a simple envelope on your floor. And the rational part in you wanted to believe he wouldn’t be marrying someone else when it hadn’t even been a year yet. You knew you wouldn’t; not when you were nowhere near halfway there when it came to getting over him and moving on.
Pathetic, that's how you felt.
Wanting to forget about it all, you threw the invitation on your key table before taking your shoes off and heading to bed. Thankfully, this time it laid facing upwards and wouldn't bring you any more heartbreak, since it now displayed the names of the lovely couple who was about to get married and would like you to join them on such a special day.
Felix and Hyejin.
"Mhm…" you hummed in response after what felt like an eternity.
That was as much of an answer as Seungmin would get from you.
"Are you going?" he inquired.
You shrugged. "Don't know".
"What do you mean you don't know?!" he scoffed. "Y/N, it's Felix and Hyejin we're talking about. We've been friends since the beginning of college. Fuck, we’ve been friends with Hyejin since high school!"
"So?" you helplessly tried to fight back, knowing well enough you were at disadvantage here.
"So?!" Seungmin grew frustrated. "I get that you and Hyunjin broke up and I've been very understanding when it comes to not pushing you into hanging out with our group anymore, but it's our friends' wedding we're talking about this time".
You sighed, leaning against the counter in search of some kind of support. "I know…"
"You can't avoid us forever".
"I haven't avoided you" you pouted.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure the only reason you didn't push me away like the rest was because we're literally linked by a contract and have to see each other at our coffee shop on the daily".
"Come on now, don't be like that" your voice weakened, reaching for his hand and holding it in between both of yours. "I can't even remember what my life was like before we became friends, I wouldn't have pushed you away out of everyone".
Seungmin's semblance softened — both at your words and at the miserable look in your eyes. In the end, he was all you had, and although honored, he couldn't help but feel his chest hurt over how you had ended up here.
Not even a year ago, you used to have a team of ten people rooting for you. You used to have a perfect support system, and you used to be a part of it for your friends, too. Now, you had managed to close yourself off and push everyone away. You had cleared the way for Hyunjin and Minji to take over, not wanting to make things awkward after everything that went down. After all, you were the one who ended things, it was only fair for you to be the one to take a step back.
Now, it was only him to you. Y/N and Seungmin, just like it had been up until high school.
With a small smile, he squeezed your hand tenderly. "I really think you should go…"
You bit your lip, looking down to your black shoes, which suddenly seemed like the most interesting view in the world.
Truth be told, you wanted to go. For Hyejin and Felix, you wanted to attend. Being there with them on the most important day of their lives would be a dream come true. But you just weren't ready to face their guests — two of them in particular.
"Will you at least think about it?" he pushed it once more when he realised you might not speak up again. "Before sending your confirmation back by the end of the week".
"Will he…" your voice came out of your mouth before you could stop it, still not being able to look up. "Are they…" you sighed, feeling like you might break down from the thought of it alone. "Are they going together?"
It wasn't necessary for you to say their names, for Seungmin knew well enough who 'they' were.
"You made me promise not to ever tell you about them, no matter how hard you begged".
"That was before knowing I'd might have to face them again".
Seungmin smiled reassuringly. "I don't know, if I'm honest".
The glare you gave him was enough to have him step back and hold both hands up as a sign of peace.
"Cross my heart!" he promised. "Lix and Hye had talked about getting married here and there but the invitation took us all by surprise, you would've known if you hadn't left our group chat".
You smiled melancholically. You used to love that group chat, it had been one of your main sources of sanity all throughout college, and later on the source of many callouts from your friends when Hyunjin and you started dating and inevitably became that couple.
You missed it. You missed your friend group, all of them, even Minji, as sad as it was. But being in the same group as her and Hyunjin was something you were not strong enough to make it through, so you left.
"I'm not sure I should go then…" you confessed. "Imagine if they went there together. I would break down right there, Min".
"Aww, no, come here" he pulled you into a hug, tightly wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling your face into his chest. "I doubt they'll go together, but if they do you can leave. I just want you to show up for Felix and Hyejin, even if you literally only go there to congratulate them and then dip".
A muffled chuckle was heard against his chest. "That would be a bit rude, don't you think?"
"Then stay" he pulled you back by your shoulders, locking his eyes with yours. "You don't even have to look their way. We can go together, I'll make sure to block his view whenever he's within your visual range".
"You'd do that for me?" you pouted.
"Of course, I'll be like your personal bodyguard".
"You should probably gain a bit more muscle for that" you teased, poking his bicep.
"Shut up" he offendedly let go of you.
"You don't have to sacrifice your plus one for me, though" you let him know. "You can take whoever you want with you, I'll be fine".
"Well, it's not like I've got a lot of people lined up to date me, do I?" his snarky remark earned a laugh from you. "Plus, we'd kill three birds with one shot".
"Isn't it supposed to be two?" you tilted your head.
He shook his head. "Three".
You motioned for him to go on with his point.
"The both of us would get a date and wouldn't be put in one of those lame tables for single people so we can mingle" he cringed, and you giggled. "I'd be able to keep you from interacting with Hyunjin and Minji all day long. And, we could make Hwang a lil jealous while at it. I know he was lowkey always jealous of me being close to you".
You snorted, finding his third point absolutely ridiculous. "Oh, come on. What was there to be jealous of?"
"Should I be offended?"
"You're an idiot," you laughed. "But I will take you up on your offer".
"So you're going?!" he cheered up.
"No, I mean… I still have to think of it, but if I do, we should go together".
"Okay then, I guess I'll be waiting" he sighed, quite over dramatically at that. "Please let me know when you make up your mind, so I know whether to check the plus one option or not".
"Will do" you smiled, going back to the long-forgotten cupcakes on the counter in order to keep placing them in the showcase. "Now go see if everything's in order so we can open for the day".
"Yes, boss".
You rolled your eyes. "For the millionth time, I'm not your boss. We're literally associates".
"Yeah, and we're both the bosses here" he reminded you, stealing a salted caramel cupcake from the tray. "Would really appreciate it if you called me boss around our workers from time to time".
"Just go, big boss" you humored him.
Seeing him give you the middle finger while he stuffed his mouth and walked away, you knew the day would go by smoothly.
-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-♡
When you arrived home later that night, you were confident to check your assistance on the invitation. Seungmin's pep talk that morning had really done the trick, and the fact that it had been a very busy day at the coffee shop hadn't left that much space for overthinking throughout the day.
So, when you walked into your apartment that evening, you confidently grabbed the envelope you had thrown to the table by the entrance the day before and made your way to the desk inside your bedroom.
Taking a seat by it, you allowed yourself to pay attention to the details on the envelope for the first time. Violet had always been Hyejin's favourite colour, and you couldn't help but smile when you saw the few touches of it on the creme paper. Their names were delicately written in cursive with a black pen right in the middle, and it looked so perfect that it actually had you wondering whether it had been written by hand or in a computer.
Just like Hyunjin and Minji, Felix and Hyejin were, too, names that you considered to look perfect together. You wanted to believe Hyunjin and Minji weren't actually meant to be, though — unlike Lix and Hye, who were so fucking perfect for each other, that it only took you one minute with them the day you all met to realise they were meant to be.
Trying to erase the melancholic smile from off your face, you grabbed a black pen and opened the envelope for once and for all.
The words on the paper that informed the details of when and where the event was taking place went right through your head as you searched for the small square you would have to check in order to attend.
You were going.
Yes, you were going.
That's what you repeated to yourself like a mantra while your mind fought with your body, as the still hand holding the pen wouldn't come down to check the goddamn 'I'm attending' box.
You were going.
You had told yourself you were going.
But, after staring blankly at the paper on your desk for five minutes without being able to move, you came down to the conclusion that you couldn't bring yourself to write down on it.
Not when you were reminded of who you might bump into if you ended up attending.
No matter how hard Seungmin tried to block your view, no matter how hard you tried not to look around for him and have tunnel vision for the groom and bride standing on the aisle only, you knew you would somehow end up caving in.
Because no matter how hard you fought it, your eyes would always look for him in a room full of people. And you knew that if you looked and he was with her, your heart would break all over again and you would not be able to control the tears that would come rolling down your face in an instant.
Even if they were not a couple, even if they did not attend as each other's plus one, you knew you would break down at the most minimal of their interactions — because Hyunjin was no longer yours, and he had been hers first.
Granted, they had never been physically involved —as far as you knew and as far as you wanted with everything in you to believe—, and you had always been too scared to ask Minji if she ever had feelings for him, but Hyunjin did have feelings for her. To make matters worse, he used to have them up until right before you and him got romantically involved.
"She is the most beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes on" Hyunjin said one night.
You had all been drinking at Minho's on a Friday night, just for the sake of having a good time as the best friends you were — all eleven of you.
Hyunjin was on his third drink already and could feel his eyes becoming heavy, but even then, his eyes would light up at the sight of Minji. Your heart tightened at the realisation, having to remind yourself that it was just a crush and you needed to let go of it before you ended up hurt.
You were well aware of it, but it was hard to let it go when you were sitting down next to him on the couch and his knee was ever-so-naturally touching yours. It was hard to let go of it when the two of you got along so well and would spend hours just sitting beside each other talking about anything and everything at the same time.
And it was hard not to feel your chest hurt every single time he would steal a glance towards Minji, who kept laughing at anything that Han said as they talked by the kitchen's entrance.
It hurt, because he looked at her like she held the stars in the sky, and you wished he would look at you the same.
You wished he would look at you like that. Period.
Not her. Only you.
But he did not. You could tell the difference in his chocolate eyes when they focused on you and when they focused on her, and it hurt the same every single time.
"Why don't you tell her?" you asked regardless, trying your best to push your feelings away.
Hyunjin looked at you as if the most stupid of ideas had just come out of your mouth — and, in a way, it had. "We've been friends since we were twelve, there's no way".
"She's gonna find out eventually if you keep saying those things out loud when she's in the same room" you shrugged, bringing your cup to your mouth, quietly sipping down on your beer.
"What? Did I say something? What did I say?" he silently freaked out.
A bitter smile curved up your mouth, which was thankfully covered by the cup still pressed to your lips.
Hwang Hyunjin was so in love with his best friend that he didn't even realise when he called her the most beautiful woman his eyes had ever seen.
You wished he could ever feel that way about you, but you knew he wouldn't. Between Minji and you, you knew his heart would always choose her. And it was okay. After all, you only had a crush on him. You could make it go away any time.
Oh, how wrong you were. And how you wished it was just a crush.
How you wished you had actually put some effort into making it go away when you had the chance, instead of only letting it grow bigger and stronger by the day.
But not falling for Hyunjin was one of the hardest things you had fought against, and you failed oh-so-miserably at it.
It was his way with words and how he made you feel like the most special person in the world before the two of you were even a thing. It was the way he made you feel like no one else but the both of you existed. The way he would stare and not even try to play it off. The way he would out of nowhere say the sweetest of things to you and expect you not to become a blabbering mess in front of him.
How he would Facetime you at any time of the day just to check up on you and tell you about the plot he had randomly came up with while doing the most mundane of chores; and how he'd show up at your place with your favourite drinks and food, only for the latter to inevitably go cold, as he always seemed to arrive in the middle of your baking sessions, which resulted in him becoming your personal assistant whose commissions would be paid in all the pastries his stomach could handle.
Everything was too perfect for you not to fall head over heels for him.
The darkside of it all was that you only got to experience all that when Minji went abroad for one semester.
He didn't have her anymore, and suddenly he noticed you.
It was as if a switch had been turned off and just like that all the attention he paid to her was now focused on you. It almost felt like he was looking for a replacement in the meantime, and you were too over the moon to realise. Until she came back, and everything you had built together came crashing down.
And maybe it was your fault for letting your insecurities win over the love he claimed to feel for you, but it was hard —if not impossible— for you not to feel like you had just been there to temporarily fill a void.
As soon as she came back, you felt threatened. The second his eyes laid on her and they hugged like they were each other's oxygen after being at the verge of drowning, you knew your days together were counted.
You should've stopped it all back when it was just a crush, when she still hadn't left and you didn't have the chance to have Hwang Hyunjin's attention on you in all its splendor yet.
Maybe then the two of you wouldn't have ended up getting together when she was away. Maybe then you wouldn't have gotten so goddamn insecure when she came back and they inevitably became attached to the hip all over again, like they always were.
Maybe then you wouldn't have gone through the hardest of breakups and the most painful of heartbreaks.
No matter how convinced you were that leaving him was the best you could've done to keep your sanity, you couldn't help but feel like it was not the best choice for your heart.
Ever since you walked away that December night, it felt like something was missing, like you were in a constant state of waiting for something to arrive at your doorstep but it never would.
It was almost comical, how no matter what decision you made, whether you stayed with him or not, your heart would break regardless. If you stayed, your heart would keep hurting every single time you saw him and Minji together. If you left, your heart would hurt over the loss of him.
In the end, you just had to choose the lesser evil. And fuck, letting go of him hurt so damn much you wondered if it was the lesser evil at all.
You wished you could erase that night from your memory. The words you said to push him away and the ones he said to keep you close, the sound of his voice breaking with each sentence leaving his mouth, his gloomy, red eyes looking at you like you had just ripped his heart apart, the endless tears staining those rosy cheeks of his you had just been covering with kisses one day ago.
Everything about it, about how you walked away, you wished you could forget.
It was all on you. You hurt him, and would never forgive yourself for it, no matter how much you convinced yourself it had been the best choice for you.
He had fought for you until the end, and you did not look back from your decision once.
You had lost sleep for weeks after that, and then last night you could not bat an eye as you went through all the possibilities that would come with you attending the wedding. Over and over, you wondered whether you would be able to handle seeing him again after all this time.
Overwhelmed by all the memories and what if's that had been unleashed inside your head by simply staring at that one piece of paper, you took a deep breath and put the pen down.
Although Seungmin’s pep talk had worked wonders to help you get through with the day, and although it had managed to convince you for most of it, you realised it was not a decision you could make that easily. Not that day, at least.
With a heavy heart, you stood up from your desk and decided to make yourself some tea in hopes to ease your mind — leaving the invitation laying there in the darkness of your room, once again left to be forgotten.
You still had the rest of the week to think this through.

In loving memory
Chapter 2/?
(This is a story about the events of Clay's death from the perspective of Aaron)
"Say, where's Clay?"
This would've been an easy question a few hours ago
Clay? He's right here fine and well
But right now
"He... he couldn't make it your majesty, he sends his apologies"
A few hours ago Clay completely turned to stone
The others are still trying to process, it which is understandable, after all to them, this came out of nowhere
To them, Clay was fine one day and suddenly he vanished
But that's why he told me beforehand, so I could comfort them in a time like this
Easier said than done tho
Back at the rolling fortress was the lifeless statue of Clay
Everyone was in varying degrees of shock and disbelief, the atmosphere is heavy
"He- he was- he was my hero"
"He was a hero to us all, Robin"
Macy is going through the same pain as Robin, yet here she is comforting him
She has always been there when others needed her, whether in combat or in personal issues
Maybe I should try saying something too
"I..."
But what would I even say
"I just can't believe it"
I guess words were never my strong suit
"How will we ever carry on without him?"
Axl is the heart of the team
He always said that we're like family to him
I can't imagine what he feels like after losing a member of that family
"He was the knights' knight... who'll lead us now?"
Lance is our knight in shining armour, literally
Being a Richmond, he's very egotistical, but he could humble himself when it got too far
He clashed heads with Clay the most but even after all their bickering, he is the first to come to Clay's aid when he needs it
"Why don't you all get some rest, you've been through a lot today"
Merlock is right, those monsters aren't gonna slow down any time soon, we need to be ready for them
The others are hesitant but eventually, they all head to their rooms one by one, maybe we can talk in the morning after everyone clears their heads
Me, Merlock and Clay are the only ones left
Man, I'm starting to get a heavy feeling in my chest
"Aaron, aren't you going to your room as well? You must be tired"
"I'm fine I'm fine, I just... I want to spend some time with clay"
"Alright"
"..."
"..."
"Alone"
"Oh of course"
Merlock zaps away
Now, it's just me and Clay
Or whatever is left of him
He was frozen mid-swing, maybe about to hit another monster
Did he even notice his illness consuming him? Maybe he did, but fought on till his last breath, just like a true hero would
I wonder what his last thoughts were
Did he think about us? did he have any regrets? did he live a fulfilling life? All questions only he knows the answers to
"Clay... i-"
Oh no, the feelings are starting to hit
"I miss you"
I can feel the tears running down my face
"I know it's only been a few hours, but I already miss you so much"
My legs give up as I fall to the ground
"I thought I had more time to prepare, I thought I'd get a hang on this leader thing before you're gone, but I was wrong"
It's getting hard to see from all the tears
"Clay, I can't do this"
I hope no one sees me like this
.
.
.
.
Who knew crying takes that much energy
Usually, clay wakes us all at 6 for team training but look at me, it's 12 and I'm still in bed
I can't bring myself to get up, my body feels so heavy, I can barely move
I'd rather go back to sleep but Jestro and his monsters are still out and about and they're definitely going to take advantage of our loss
I gather all the strength I have and pull myself up
I push away all the books on the bed and kick away the other books thrown on the ground
I can't bear to look at them anymore and it's not just cause I hate reading
These books remind me of my failure
Clay is already dead and I haven't finished any of them
He shouldn't have trusted me
As soon as I leave my room I am greeted by Lance, looks like he decided to finally get out of bed too
"Hey, goodmor- well, good afternoon"
"Hey, Lance"
His focus shifts to my room but I close the door before he sees anything
Why am I still hiding it from him? This shouldn't be a secret anymore, right?
But it still feels like I've got something to hide
"I thought you didn't like reading?"
Damn it, he saw everything
"Yeah, I don't"
"Then what are all those books in your room?"
"Um.... they're not mine!"
He's not gonna buy it I need to think of something else quick
"What are you two doing?"
Thankfully, Axl is here to save me
"I was just passing by and I noticed that Aaron-"
I cover his mouth before he says another word
I don't want Axl asking questions too, but now I need to tell him something
"We were uh.. talking about the weather!"
Kill me
"Well, I'm heading to the main room, move out of the way"
Axl shoves us aside
"I'm going with you"
I run after him
"Hey! Get back here you didn't answer my question!"
In the main room, Ava is tracking down forbidden power, or she's trying to, to no success
I can hear the others talk but it all sounds like mumbling to me
I just look at Clay and I'm reminded of last night, once again I'm thankful that no one saw me
Well, Clay did
If he could talk he'd be lecturing me right now for all the crying I did last night
He'd say "hold yourself together, Aaron, knights don't hold themselves back by worrying about their capabilities, a true knight would face danger head-on without hesitation" or something like that
And you know what? Imaginary Clay is right!
It's my duty to lead the team now and I know it's not going to be an easy job but Clay trusts me, the real Clay
"You're right Macy"
I can do this
For Clay
"It's time your new leader stepped up"
I take a deep breath and-
"YES! Ah! I so deserve it, I mean look at me!"
...
Pfft
Somehow hearing Lance right now makes all my worries go away
Even if I'm not a good leader, these guys are amazing knights, I know they can do anything, with or without Clay
"Ehm- come forward, brave knight!"
I take a deep breath and step forward
.
.
.
.
I didn't expect to get my first mission as a leader so soon
Just a few seconds ago, Merlock was telling the team about me being the new leader, and right now me and Macy just dropped by the king's castle to defend it from upcoming attacks
Macy is knocking monsters left and right with her new dragon add-on, which is the coolest thing I've ever seen
...What am I doing in charge?
No time for that! the kingdom is in danger
Before I could do anything, I hear an explosion above us, I look up to see that giant cloud once again and he's attacking Merlock's tower
"Knights, we have to stop that cloud, if he destroys Merlock's core memory we lose everything!"
I don't need Ava to tell me to stop him, I'm already on my way to Merlock's tower
Wait, what is Robin doing here? It's way too dangerous for him
"Robin, you need to get out of here, go!"
I help him get up and make sure he got away safely
"Merlock, I need the craziest combo nexo power you've got to deal with that cloud"
"Not now, Aaron, I'm a bit busy right now"
That stupid cloud is trying to attack Merlock but luckily I'm here to shield him
"Merlock, I need that combo nexo power, now"
"It is far too dangerous, Aaron, you must leave this place"
He wants me to leave??
"Hey! you choose me for this, I'm the leader this is my decision, you said it yourself 'the sky is the limit' and now is the time to prove it"
Merlock is thinking about it, sure take your time it's not like an evil cloud is trying to attack you right now, I can handle it no problem
"Prepare for a nexo scan!"
I can hear the peeping of the scan
"Merlock it's now or never, I need something daring and dangerous with some spice on top"
I raise my shield in the air for the scan, my armour is now glowing with nexo power
I hop on my shield and fly up to the cloud
As soon as I get in the air I hear an explosion behind me
It's Merlock, that cloud hit him
Great, now I lost two of my friends in one week
I can't let this evil cloud get away with this
"Aaron, what're you gonna do?"
"Hit that crazed cloud from the inside, maybe that'll shrink him back down a size"
"It's too dangerous"
"Don't sweat it, Macy, I've got this"
The inside of the cloud wasn't as I expected
Aren't clouds usually air? what are all those faces?
This is totally weird
Focus! I've got a mission to do
"Now, you're gonna have to deal with me!"
I start shooting all around, I don't know what I'm hitting but it's damaging him and that's what matters
If I don't get rid of him now, who knows how many more people could die
I have to destroy this cloud, even if it kills me!
.
.
.
.
Unfortunately for these monsters, It's not gonna be that easy to get rid of me
Attacking that cloud from the inside worked, somehow and everyone is safe now
Man, I don't know why I was worrying so much about being a leader, it wasn't as bad as I expected, we defeat Jestro and his monsters like always
Also, Melock is still alive! I don't know how he keeps doing this but this man is unkillable, I wish I could be that cool someday
Also also, the king threw us a big party and invited everyone in the kingdom
Well, the party wasn't all that fun, the king expected Clay to be there and we had to hide his... "condition" from everyone
But it's alright! no one found out, well the king did but that's ok he's chill with it! as chill as he can be at least
Those last few weeks were crazy, first the whole leader thing then clay dies and then a huge cloud attacks the kingdom! we really need a break after all of this, I'm gonna lay in bed and not get up for a week, and I'm definitely not going to touch another book ever again
Why were books my first thought anyways? I could've just looked up a guide on the Internet, it's certainly easier than reading
My break will have to wait tho cause me and the others are moving statue Clay to the top of the fortress
We thought it was a great way to honour him, if he could talk right now he'd totally agree
Sadly stone statues can't talk but imagine how cool It'd be if he could

Request: No
Fandom: Resident Evil
Pairings: Dimitrescu Girls x Fem!Reader
Warning: mention of a stab wound, homophobia.
A/N: Here's something to hold you over while I work on the commissions I have! I had an instant idea when I saw a prompt for coming out and having multiple people send the video of Lady Dimitrescu's voice actor saying Lady D supports gay rights! Happy Pride month everyone!!! Collage was made by me and this was edited by @semiproeagle!
Tumblr media
You ran through the village you once called home, the shouts of the villagers ringing through your ears. This is what you were afraid of. You knew this would happen eventually, but you were hoping it would've taken a few more years, at least till you were able to move away.
Putting pressure on the wound that was on your shoulder, you hissed, feeling the cold air hit your face as you climbed up the small steep hill that led to the entrance of Castle Dimitrescu.
Stopping to catch your breath, you hunched over the open gate. You felt like your legs were about to give out.
"There she is!"
Turning your head, you saw the villagers running towards you with weapons. "C'mon, just...just a little further."
Gathering your last bit of strength you could, you made your way to the castle door. Slamming your fist against it, you screamed out for help as the villagers started to get closer. Going to hit the door another time, you stumbled inside when the door opened, seemingly by itself.
Falling to the floor, you turn to lay on your back. Your vision started to get blurry and you started to fade in and out of consciousness. The last thing you heard was footsteps approaching your body.
"Mother! She's here! The woman we told you about!"
"Daniela, keep it down, please. I'm trying to hear her heartbeat."
"I'm pretty sure it's beating, Bela. She's still breathing, and pretty heavily, too."
"Mother! Tell them to be quiet! I know she's alive! I'm trying to figure out how fast it's beating!"
"Now girls, no arguing...Daniela, prepare a dish of warm water and get some clean rags. Cassandra, gather a fresh change of clothes for the girl."
"Yes, Mother!" Both girls left Alcina and Bela at the front door to do as they were told.
Alcina looked out the window, seeing the crowd disperse watching as some scowled or stuttered in fear of stepping too close to the castle.
Turning back to Bela, Alcina glanced at the girl, seeing her chest rise and fall heavily and rapidly. "She's running a fever, mother."
Alcina nodded. "Take her up to one of the spare rooms, I'll be right behind you."
"Yes, Mother." Bela carefully picked you up in her arms, making sure you were as comfortable as can be before she started to move you even further.
Stirring in your sleep, you quickly sat up, breathing heavily. Feeling your heart race in your chest, you placed a hand above it to help calm yourself down.
Confusion was what you felt when you looked around, seeing you were in a very luxurious bedroom. You realized someone had changed you to a black silk lace nightgown. You shivered and winced in slight pain from your shoulder wound. You had been patched up in your sleep.
Carefully stepping out of bed, you grabbed the white robe that was on the chair by the vanity. Slipping it on, you made your way out of the room. Looking on either side of the hallway, you heard laughter coming from your right. Following the sounds of giggles and wood crackling from a fire, you looked down, seeing four women. The one in white was sitting on the sofa, reading a book while the three in black were whispering to each other.
Your head was spinning a little while you were focusing on the three that were by the fire, not noticing the fourth one looking at you. "Well, I see our little guest is awake."
Startled, you quickly looked over at her. Your breath caught in your throat for a second when you saw her face.
"Don't be afraid. You may come down here and join us."
The three women looked up at you, their smiles wide as their eyes followed you while you slowly made your way down the staircase.
Cassandra stood up just as you reached the last step. "Come sit with us! We prepared food and water for you. It's still very warm."
Your cheeks turned a light pink when Cassandra grabbed your hand. Quickly pulling you towards the small table, you sat down between the other two.
Fidgeting with your fingers, your eyes darted between everyone in the room before they landed on Alcina.
Feeling a weight on your shoulders, you realized the anxiety you were feeling before was starting to bubble in your stomach again.
Alcina looked over at you with a serious expression on her face before it softened when she saw how fearful you were. "If you're afraid that my daughters and I will do something to you, then have no fear. We won't."
Surprised at this, you spoke up with a fragile voice. "Wh-why? I-I thought that-"
"Stories are stories, my dear. Yes, we kill, but it's for survival. We don't kill for entertainment."
"Oh...I'm sorry." Awkwardly picking up the glass of water, you drank some of it, welcoming the liquid that slid down your dry throat.
Bela quickly refilled your glass before asking you a question. "Why did you run to our castle?"
Daniela slid a plate of cookies towards you. "Why were your people chasing you? I saw you from one of the windows."
"Oh, I-" Your chest started to feel tight, like your lungs were caving in. "Um..."
Alcina rested her head on the palm of her hand. "It's alright. Nothing will harm you while you're here."
Taking a deep breath in and out, you stared at the plate of food in front of you. "They....um. They caught me....kissing my friend- a former friend. She suddenly pushed me away and said I forced her to do it, and that I was mind-controlling her. I was stabbed in the shoulder, but managed to run away, and the only place I knew no one would follow me to was here. I'm sorry for trespassing. If you'd like, I will leave as soon as-"
"No! You're injured, we wouldn't let a pretty lady out in the snow in your condition!" Daniela squeezed your hand when you jumped in your seat.
"Of course you don't have to leave. Not with the way those barbarians treated you and, without hesitation, almost killed you over an accusation as wild as hers while you were just living your truth." Alcina stood, making her way to you. You stayed frozen in place when she knelt down, touching your unharmed shoulder. "This is your home now. Here in house Dimitrescu, we do not discriminate against anyone's sexuality, race, or gender. It's ridiculous in my opinion." She offered a warm smile. "This will be your new home, we'll protect you as a family should. So please, sweet girl, don't be afraid of us."
Bela tugged on Alcina's sleeve. "Does that mean we get a new sister?"
The four women all looked at you, waiting for a response. The tight feeling in your chest gradually went away with each breath you took. Your eyes started to water as everything became clear. "Yes! I would love that very much!"
Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela all grinned while pulling you into a group hug, lifting you off the ground, and happy to have another sibling around.

Fic Rec Bingo!!
So instead of Fic Rec Thursday, I thought I'd do something a little different this week and recommend 25 fics based on this bingo card (although it turned into 26, oops). I kept most of these as CM because that's my blog's focus, but due to the nature of the prompts, there are 5 Marvel (Irondad) ones & 1 Sherlock towards the end!
from @lightveils on twitter, but found posted on tumblr by @cywscross <3
Tumblr media
1. A fic with a premise that shouldn't work but does
I never would've thought I'd enjoy a fic with Spencer as a little rebellious shit because it seems so ooc, but I loved this one!
las vegas kid by trashcanbarbie - 1.9k, 1ch, Gen/Aaron Hotchner & Spencer Reid, Gambling, Spencer Reid Needs a Hug, Young Spencer Reid, Teenage Rebellion, Protective Aaron hotchner, Pre-Canon, Father-Son Relationship, Teenage Spencer Reid
JJ raises her eyebrows, “so, you're trying to say counting cards isn't cheating?” “No,” he grins, boyish and charming, “it is.”
2. A fic you've reread several times
Discipline Changes by fullofcrazyness - 1.2k, 1ch, Aaron Hotchner/Spencer Reid, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, Hurt/Comfort, Past Child Abuse, Spencer Reid Needs a Hug, Comforting Hotch
Jack stopped and looked at his dad, finally seeing that his dad wasn’t actually angry. Concerned and relieved, but not angry. He was about to say something when he saw someone in the doorway, white as a sheet. “Papa?”
3. A comfort fic
i'm always tired, but never of you by @iamrenstark - 2.2k, 1ch, Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid, Hurt Spencer Reid, Angst with a Happy Ending, Sad Derek, Established Relationship, Hurt/Comfort, Spencer Reid Needs a Hug, Derek Morgan Needs a Hug, Men Crying, Gunshot Wounds, Blood and Injury
When Spencer figured it out, he was stepping out of the elevator on the bottom floor of Quantico, and he went to tell Derek he loved him like he did every day, but he froze up, because he was afraid he wouldn't hear it back. (Or, Spencer thinks his boyfriend is falling out of love with him.)
4. A cathartic fic
Every Little Transgression by @58thacademic - 1.6k, 1ch, Gen, Angst with a Happy Ending, Sad Spencer Reid, Protective David Ross, Protective Derek Morgan, Mentioned Suicide Attempt, Spencer's Backstory, Implied/Referenced Rape/Non-Con, Spencer Reid Needs a Hug, Episode: s03e16 Elephant's Memory
Ok so. Elephants memory was really good because we got Reid backstory. But I'm still annoyed that he didn't defend himself against Hotch. So this was born.
5. A fic you'd print and put on your bookshelf
One Call Away by GhostInTheBAU - 204k, 32ch, Aaron Hotchner/Spencer Reid, Dubious Consent, Attempted Rape/Non-Con, Domestic Violence, Rape Recovery, Referenced Past Drug Use, PTSD, Hurt Spencer Reid, Protective Aaron Hotchner, Mutual Pining, Slow Burn, Angst with a Happy Ending, Fluff, Flashbacks, Healing, Nightmares, Suicidal Thoughts, Hurt/Comfort, Whump, Eventual Smut
When Reid's boyfriend attacks him, leaving him broken and bleeding, he calls the first person he thinks of for help. He calls the only person he really wants to see. He calls Hotch.
6. A fic you associate with a song
I associate this fic with The First Thing You See by Bruno Major. I think if you listen to the song, you'll easily see why <3
You Make Waking Up Worth It by @guccifloralsuits - 2.1k, 1ch, Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid, Fluff, Minor Angst, Established Relationship, Morning Routines, Hurt/Comfort, Good Things Happen Bingo
“Morning sweetheart,” Derek says, pausing briefly to ruffle his hand gently through Spencer’s hair. The genius nuzzles into the touch but doesn’t reply. It’s too early for conversation, Morgan knows. Pretty boy may get up earlier than he does, but it takes the younger a lot longer to really wake up.
7. A fic that inspires you
This fic could have been in so many categories because I adore it, but I wouldn't have started writing Rain is a Chance to be Touched without this fic so it definitely belongs here.
Forgive Me For All I Could Not Become by @degrassi-fanatic - 105k, 20ch, Aaron Hotchner/Spencer Reid, Canon Divergence, Getting Together, Angst, Case Fic, Confessions, Complicated Relationships, Near Death Experiences, Friends With Benefits, Smut, Miscommunication
In which Reid has always been good at hiding things. He hid his father's departure and his mother's illness from social services. He hid his addiction from his team. He hid his sexuality from the world. He hid his inappropriate feelings from his boss. That is until he's bleeding out in Hotch's arms, in an abandoned church, in Oklahoma. From there on out, Hotch and Reid learn to make a complete mess out of each other.
8. A fic that brought you on board a new ship
Even though it's unrequited, this was the first fic that really had me going !!! at Penemily <3
Another Wide-Eyed Girl by mallfacee - 2k, 1ch, Gen/Derek Morgan & Penelope Garcia, Penelope Garcia/Emily Prentiss (Unrequited), Coming Out, Internalised Homophobia, Derek Morgan is a Good Friend, Friendship, Gunshot Wounds, Episode: s03e08 Lucky
Derek Morgan is handsome and calls her “baby girl” and smiles at her like she’s the only girl in the room. Penelope Garcia knows she should be swooning and all she can think is that there must be something wrong with her not to react to a man like that giving her all this attention. Two years later she meets Emily Prentiss and understands.
9. A fic you wish could be a movie
Listen, I adore the soulmate trope, and an angsty moreid soulmate movie? Fucking sign me up right now
i need you now but i don't know you yet by @iamrenstark - 3.1k, 1ch, Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid, Hurt Spencer Reid, Hurt Derek Morgan, Mutual Pining, Soulmates, Hurt/Comfort, Buford Mention, Angst with a Happy Ending, Getting Together, Season 5
It goes like this; Spencer hasn't spoken to his soulmate since he was ten, didn't know their gender or their name or a single thing about them. Spencer's soulmate doesn't want him, and that's okay.
10. A fic that led to you making friends with the author
I'm doing two because fuck you that's why
This was one of the first fics I read of Adam's and I immediately fell in love with his writing! And I'm pretty sure that we ended up becoming friends after I rec'd it!!
Plum Sauce by @goldencatchflies - 1.5k, 1ch, Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid, First Kiss, Friends to Lovers, Getting Together, Canon Divergence, Fluff, Jealousy, Platonic Morcia, Episode: s07e13 Snake Eyes
Garcia tells Spencer about what she thinks happened between her and Derek. He doesn’t seem too happy about it...
I read this from Syd and absolutely loved it, and like with Adam, we became friends from there! (I mean technically husband and wife, but, y'know. Semantics.)
You Belong With Me by @spencerspecifics - 11.4k, 1ch, Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid, Song Fic, Getting Together, Angst with a Happy Ending, Pining, Fluff
A fluffy Moreid fic based on You Belong With Me by: Taylor Swift
11. A fic you associate with a place
This reminds me of a chilled Sunday afternoon on my old sofa in my living room, with the fire on in the background. I read it all in one sitting and loved every word <3
Metanoia by @makaylajadewrites - 39k, 16ch, Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid, Canon Typical Violence, Implied Rape/Non-Con, Implied/Referenced Torture, Established Relationship, Near Death Experiences, Frostbite, Rape Recovery, Suicidal Thoughts, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Autistic Spencer Reid, Drug Use, Eventual Smut, Eventual Happy Ending
Oh, Derek… He couldn’t stand the thought of him bursting in with SWAT in tow, gun at the ready, only to descend those creaky stairs and find his naked, bleeding body, vacated of life, crumbled on a red-stained mattress. The realization that he was going to die at the end of this was catching up to him, but maybe it would be better that way.
In which an unfortunate resemblance to an unsub's victims puts Reid right on his radar.
12. A fic that made you gasp out loud
Gasp out loud might be a *bit* of an overreaction, but this one took me on a rollercoaster and I loved every second of it (all of bau-gremlin's fics will do that to you tbh)
The End by @bau-gremlin - 3.1k, 2ch, Aaron Hotchner/Spencer Reid, Graphic Violence, Stabbing, Blood and Injury, Temporary Character Death, Hurt Spencer Reid, Whump, Hurt/Comfort, Angst with a Happy Ending, Hurt Aaron Hotchner, Sleepy Cuddles, Protective Spencer Reid
The famous interview with Chester Hardwick ... except Hotch and Reid get separated and Reid is left alone with Hardwick and a prison-made shiv.
13. A fic you found at the right time
You're Going to be Okay by fullofcrazyness - 2.6k, 1ch, Gen/Aaron Hotchner & Spencer Reid, Dark, Suicidal Thoughts, Depression, Implied/Referenced Self-Harm, Suicide Attempt, Sad Spencer Reid, Hurt Spencer Reid, Depression, Protective Aaron Hotchner, Hurt/Comfort, Happy Ending
Spencer was no stranger to depression. His father leaving him, his mother’s episodes, being twelve years old in a Las Vegas high school. All of those things made him very familiar with the illness. “I… I think I need some help.”
14. A fic that you would read a fic of
Chain Reaction by EloquentDossier - 42k, 16ch, Aaron Hotchner/Spencer Reid, Alternate Universe, Texting, Dialogue-Only, Text Fic, Self-Esteem Issues, Fluff, Angst, Implied/Referenced Past Drug Use, Canon Divergence, Pining, Oblivious Aaron Hotchner, Happy Ending
A dialogue-only AU in which Hotch texts what he thinks is Rossi's new number but is actually the slightly eccentric stranger whom Hotch knows only as "Spencer." What follows is something neither man could have ever quite expected.
15. A fic that made you laugh out loud
The Bet by @degrassi-fanatic - 1.6k, 2ch, Aaron Hotchner/Spencer Reid, Hijinks & Shenanigans, Bets & Wagers, Humour, Fluff, Canon Divergence
“Fifty bucks says Hotch writes you up and sends you to sexual harassment sensitivity training.” she declares as she stares him down. Without looking away from her, Reid takes out his own wallet and flips it open to pull out a fifty dollar before placing it down right next to Prentiss’s own money. “Fifty bucks says Hotch will go out with me.”
16. A fic that gave you butterflies
The healing and dynamics in this one is just.... off the charts :')
Who Spencer Reid Loves by @blueberriesandbubbles - 36k, 11ch, Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid, Rape/Non-Con Elements, Abusive Relationships, Domestic Violence, Abuse, Hurt Spencer Reid, Mutual Pining, Rape Recovery, Healing, Fluff
Derek Morgan has been in love with the resident genius as long as he's known him. When Spencer enters a relationship with a mystery man, Derek is unhappy. He is even more unhappy when he meets this man. Spencer starts acting different and Derek knows something is wrong and he has a feeling its connected to the man Reid is dating.
17. A fic that embodies something you value in life
The utter and total love and devotion in this fic just punches me right in the gut every time I reread it
A Little Fall of Rain by jack_hunter - 4.3k, 2ch, Aaron Hotchner/Spencer Reid, Hurt/Comfort, Fluff, Angst, Spencer Reid Whump, Autistic Spencer Reid, Major Character Injury, Secret Relationship, Team as Family, Dad Rossi
Morgan crept up behind the doctor and snatched the headphones off of his head, earning a yelp of a protest as he slipped them over his own ears. “Les Mis?” Morgan asked with a quizzical look, “didn’t peg you as the musical type, Pretty Boy.” Spencer snatched the headphones back. “I’ve always loved the theatre and I went to see Les Misérables with-... a friend last Friday.”
18. A favourite AU
The Curious Case of Dr. Reid by severaance - 37k, 10ch, Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid, Transgender Character, Fluff, Trans Spencer Reid, Light Angst, Getting Together, Developing Relationship, Smut, Insecurity, Happy Ending (Warning for Homophobic & Transphobic Slurs)
"And your names for the order, please?" The barista asked, eyes flickering expectantly between the two before her. "Spencer," she answered, although she was not talking to the barista. "I'm Spencer." The man before her had the same idea. "Derek."
19. A fic you stayed up too late to finish reading
I stayed up one night and read pretty much all the marvel fics this author has written, but this was the last one that I simply could not resist. The next day wasn't pretty :/
The more you say, the less I know by forthenightisdarkandfullofterror - 13.9k, 3ch, Gen/Irondad, Angst, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Temporary Amnesia, Protective Pepper Potts, Not Endgame Compliant, Tony Stark Acting as Peter Parker's Parental Figure, Peter Parker Needs a Hug, Blood and Violence, Hurt Peter Parker, Whump
Tony wakes up from snapping with amnesia and for the life of him can't remember the kid hanging around, claiming to be 'just an intern'. Feelings get hurt.
20. A fic that made you feel seen
heavy in my bones by hopeless_hope - 4.4k, 1ch, Gen/Irondad, Chronic Pain, Hurt/Comfort, Hurt Peter Parker, Whump, Father-Son Relationship, Dad Tony, Worried Tony Stark, Angst, Chronic Illness, 5+1 Things
Five times Peter lied to someone about his chronic pain, and one time he told the truth and got the help he needed.
21. A fic you love without knowing the source material
(I mean this is literally all marvel fics but I'll rec this one because I loved it so much)
the locker room by searchingforstars - 15.5k, 3ch, Gen/Irondad, Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Non-Graphic Rape/Non-Con, Hurt Peter Parker, Peter Parker Needs a Hug, Mental Health Issues, Misunderstandings, Arguing, Miscommunication, Crying, Whump, Angst with a Happy Ending, Rape Recovery
Peter's falling apart and he doesn't know how things will ever go back to normal again after Ryder.
22. A fic you've gushed about IRL
Genuinely, this fic is better than most published fiction I've read...
The Third Option by Uncertainty_Principle - 220k, 37ch, Gen/Irondad, Hurt/Comfort, Sexual Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Physical Abuse, Alternate Universe, Hurt Peter Parker, Foster Care, Identity Reveal, Slow Build, Disordered Eating, Homelessness
Ben and May divorced before Peter’s parents died, so when Ben is murdered Peter goes into foster care. It takes just a tiny taste of superpowers for Peter to decide he doesn’t want to put up with his horrible foster father anymore—the streets are infinitely more appealing. All he wants is to be Spider-Man anyway.
So he leaves. Simple.
Simple, that is, until Iron Man needs Spider-Man’s help. Peter isn’t about to turn down an opportunity to fight alongside Tony Freaking Stark, but he also isn’t going to let his hero know that his recruit is a fifteen-year-old homeless dropout. So they strike a deal. Peter will help Tony. In return, the mask stays on. And that’s when things get complicated.
23. A fic you still remember many years later
The Transport Series by ancientreader - 135k, 2 works, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Backstory, Canon Drug Use, Childhood Sexual Abuse, Physical Disability, AU, Important Character Death, First Time, Developing Relationship, Angst with a Happy Ending, BDSM, Humour, Fluff
How to become a consulting detective. // Jim's lessons are hard to unlearn.
24. A fic with a line or two that you've memorised by heart
"He has held up buildings and nuclear bombs and whole entire countries on his back. Peter’s body is the heaviest thing he’s ever held."
when my body won't hold me anymore (where will I go) by @madasthesea - 4.4k, 2ch, Gen/Irondad, Temporary Character Death, Angst, Grief/Mourning, Father-Son Relationship, Hurt Peter Parker, Crying, Forehead Kisses, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Medical Inaccuracies, Hugs, Platonic Cuddling
But he knows. He knows. He can feel it. Peter’s dead. Peter Parker watches as Tony carefully arranges his limbs on a cot. “Mr. Stark,” he tries for the dozenth time. No one hears him.
25. Free Space
And to round it off, we have to celebrate the fic that really and truly welcomed me into the CM fanfic world...
Chanel by @4x24 - 24k, 7ch, Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid, Getting Together, Spencer Wears Makeup, Friends to Lovers, Light Angst, Canon Compliant, Canon Typical VIolence, Humour, Fluffy Ending, Pining, Smut Heavy
Penelope mentions offhandedly one night that she thinks Spencer might look good in makeup. Spencer takes the suggestion to heart. Derek likes the new look - and Spencer - more than he probably should. (Season 4)

Chapter Six (Jennifer Barkley x Reader)
Tumblr media
Previous Chapter
The entire day, nay week leading up to Jen's arrival was fraught with tension. Time went all too quickly, yet dragged simultaneously. By Friday you were brimming with so much unnecessary energy that your productivity at work was comparable to that of Leslie, who's determination was currently your source of frustration. Had she not been so resolute about giving Jen a 'personal Pawnee tour', than you would've reunited at 5 rather than 9.
Admittedly, it was also your fault for not calling out her lengthy lie, but those extra four hours you had to suffer through were compensation enough.
In an attempt to pass the extra time, you tried to stay at work for longer, but Fridays were your half day and Ron demanded that you go home immediately, lest you do any extra government work. Reluctant to return to an empty house, you'd asked around if anyone wanted to hang out, and were met with a series of rejections.
Except for Ann, who upon being enlightened about the situation, insisted she help you get ready for your date (initially you refuted the title of 'date', but by the second hour of your evening it became tolerated). Her company, though unexpected, was more than welcomed. Having someone to share your excitement with made the increasing tension almost fun.
"Y/N?" Ann waved her hand in your line of vision, catching your attention. "We going in, or just spending the night in the car?"
"Don't tempt me." You muttered, grudgingly dragged out of your thoughts.
In front of you the queue to the The Snakehole Lounge was gradually growing. The sheer amount of people gathered outside was intimidating, so you dreaded to imagine how packed it'd be inside. Staying at home would've been preferable, but it seemed that time alone with Jennifer was not a luxury presently granted to you.
"Come on." Ann nudged you with her elbow. "You've been going on about this all day and now you're going to wuss out?"
You twisted round to face her, illuminated by the flickering multi-coloured lights beaming out the club's windows. She was watching you closely, trying to gauge how you felt based off expression alone. Despite all that was rushing through your mind, you were at a loss for words. How could you even begin to convey what you were currently feeling?
"Stop overthinking it." She said. "There's no way of knowing what'll happen when you see Jennifer again, but only you can change that, so just roll with it."
You paused to consider her suggestion, coming to the conclusion that she was more observant than you gave her credit for.
"You're right." You admitted, grateful that she'd knocked some sense into you. "Thanks." Awkwardly, you leant across the centre console to hug her. You didn't know Ann all too well, but needed some way of showing gratitude for her sensibility.
"This is nice." She relaxed into the embrace, then unwound an arm to glance at her watch. "But we're five minutes late so I'm pretty sure Leslie will be sending out a search party soon."
You chuckled, separating from Ann to glance at the building once more. Jen was somewhere inside waiting for you. She'd voluntarily returned to Pawnee, and to one of its less than fine establishments of all places, just because she wanted to see you again. The very notion had your heart racing.
"I'm ready."
---
The atmosphere of the club was as intense and unruly as expected. By the time you'd adjusted to the blinding lights and deafening music, Ann had already slipped away, replaced by Tom.
"Welcome this evening's esteemed VIP." He thrusted a disturbingly bright neon beverage into your hand. "Drink up."
"What is it?"
"Sweetums Fizz. My go-to drink for when I'm tryna get lucky." He winked. "But if it doesn't work out, feel free to give her my number."
Coming from Tom, that was the closest you would get to his blessings. So, unenthusiastically you took a sip of the dreadfully sweet drink , screwing up your face as you forced it down. Trying your best not to grimace at the taste, you smiled at him in thanks before he dispersed into the mass of people.
Next to approach was Leslie, who engulfed you in a crushing hug while spewing unintelligible nonsense about her trip. Usually her overly affectionate manner was too much, but this time you pulled her closer. If all went well tonight than you would be forever indebted to her.
Removing yourself from her grip, you interrupted her endless talk. "As much as I'd love to hear about Washington," You yelled over the obnoxiously loud music playing. "I can't hear a word your saying."
"Right." She nodded. "Wrong time, wrong place." There was a pause as the both of you were happy enjoying each others company. Since Jen's exit, Leslie had been so supportive and you'd missed her while she'd been gone.
Although, now wasn't the time for acknowledgements. "Have you seen Jen anywhere?"
"Oh, yeah." Leslie swivelled around and gestured in a general direction. "I think she said something about staying near the fire escape. Said this entire building was probably a hazard."
"That sounds like her." You grinned, spotting the green glowing fire exit sign. "Wish me luck."
"You don't need it." She patted your back, smiling reassuringly as you shuffled past.
Navigating through the crowd while keeping an eye on your target was a challenge. Several people bumped into you, their drink nearly spilling as they pushed past without an apology. However, nothing else mattered as you drew closer to the sign. Nothing else mattered except finding Jen.
Only she wasn't there.
As you struggled through the final row of people, you were met with yet another group of strangers. You sighed, absentmindedly swirling your glass as you resigned to return to Leslie. You then raised it to drink while turning round, though the necessary libation never reached your lips as you collided with someone.
The casualty gasped, stepping back as the cocktail spilled down the front of their dress.
"Shit." You froze, surveying the damage. "I'm so sorry-" You finally glanced up to face the woman and apologise again, but halted upon realisation.
Of course it was Jennifer. You just couldn't catch a break.
"I was going to surprise you, but looks like you got there first." She joked, scanning the vicinity for any kind of napkin. You joined the search, eventually spotting a couple abandoned on a table.
"Again, I am so sorry." You repeated, watching as she scrubbed at the stain. The attempt was futile as it didn't take long for the paper to be completely soaked through, and with little improvement to her dress. "Come on." You grabbed hold of her hand as she discarded the napkins, eager to try and improve this disaster of an event.
You maneuverer through the club with much difficulty while dragging Jennifer, who had an iron grip on your hand. Invigorated by the embarrassment, you arrived at the bathroom a mere minute later, all but shoving her inside one of the cubicles. Under the blaringly bright lighting you could assess the damage in greater detail.
"You know what?" She casually leant against the wall, waving her finger around. "I'm having some serious Deja-vu right now." You looked at her questioningly, pleased to see she didn't look too upset with the state of her dress. "Us together in a public restroom, you staring at my chest..."
You scoffed, reaching past her to grab the toilet paper. "Don't flatter yourself." You wrapped several layers around your hand, creating a makeshift towel. "Completely different circumstances."
"Same outcome though?" She raised an eyebrow suggestively, taking the bundle of paper from you.
"We'll just have to wait and see."
"I think you owe me." She scrunched up her face. "Or is throwing your drink over someone a traditional Pawnee welcome? Because that would explain the mess back there. Pretty sure every surface was sticky."
"Maybe you should wear one of those plastic ponchos next time." You muttered, nervously fidgeting with your hands.
The familiar anxiety from earlier seemed to have reappeared, you were unable to drag your eyes away from where they were fixated . Under the sobering bathroom light, everything had suddenly become very real. It had been years since you'd pursued any kind of serious relationship, and Jen was hardly the easiest person to start with. You tried to think about what Ann would say if she were here.
Probably something astute like "All the best things in life are worth fighting for." Too cheesy.
It'd be more "Nothing good comes out of running away from what you want, even if it's hard." Not inspirational enough.
Possibly "With great effort comes great gain." Nope. You'd definitely plagiarised that one from somewhere.
Maybe she'd-
"Y/N?" Jen ducked into your line of vision, bringing you back to reality. "Lost you there for a second." She smiled cautiously, resting a hand against your arm as if tethering you to the present.
"Sorry. I was thinking about something a friend said." You admitted sheepishly, placing your hand atop of hers. "Or would say if she were here."
"Oh yeah?" She carelessly threw the wad of paper behind, her full attention now on you. "And what would she say?"
You'd finally settled on what Ann would suggest. She'd say "Kiss her, idiot."
And you did.

Only Traitors Consort With The Damned. (Part Ten)
The Lost Boys x reader
Warnings: blood, mentioned death, injury, gun violence
Context: The SRS have finally arrived, in time for Halloween.
A/N: This is a little bit late, but it's slightly Halloween themed, so I hope that it's still alright! Spot the reference I "accidentally" left in there😉😅

Eerie music plays from hidden speakers as the costumed crowd ambles by, children screaming and laughing as scare actors jump out at them, the variety of zombies, witches and mummies, not to mention vampires, too, astounding, movie characters and even some book characters making appearances around every turn, familiar and unfamiliar lines being spoken to cheerful bypassers. Painted masks and faces litter the mixed throng of people, the twinkling, orange-cast lights throwing the crevices of each visage into sharper definition, ghoulish grins becoming longer, twisted grimaces becoming even more painful, the many slashers roaming the Boardwalk now covered in a blacker blood than before, each fake knife, axe and machete lathered in the stuff. A sickly sweet odour lingers in the air as sweets and chocolate are passed around, often accompanied by a smoking joint, or sachet of some other high-class substance, the strong reek of sweat providing an unpleasant undertone as the stifling costumes heat their wearers despite the late October chill.
As a child, I used to love Halloween. There was always something enchanting about it: you could become anything, or anyone you wanted for the night, and no one would question you on your choice, or look at you oddly because everyone was doing the same. A cheery atmosphere always seemed to hang over the annual event, the leading pumpkins that glittered along the streets and the creative decorations building up the necessary excitement over the weeks before the 31st; a fun game of mine had been to run down the streets of my hometown and count every pumpkin we could see, separately, and see who had the highest tally at the end of the day. Once the winner had been decided, they'd get first dibs on the treats handed to us at each door when we later went Trick-Or-Treating, a rule which drew many arguments to the table when we eventually compiled our loot.
Now, as I watch the roaming children, all I can think of is how easy it is for the supernatural to wreck havoc on this night, given that the spiritual veil is much thinner than usual, and no one suspects anyone of the authenticity of their outfit until it's too late. On his night, the SRS always have their hands full, meaning everyone is deployed, not just the normal Hunters: the retired Soldiers still capable of fighting, Clean-Up teams and A.R.O (Aftermath Recon Operatives) Soldiers all made to help out with the bloody massacres that occur all over the country. The holiday has a morbid side that no one sees, and there's always a high body count the next morning.
Beside me, Marko pushes and shoves at people that come too close, the vampire loudly criticizing any costume made to look like his species, his "improvements" just a little too specific to be joking ones, not quite realising that I'm not listening to him. Instead, I'm scanning the crowds, looking out for the tell tale uniform and tactics used by the SRS Clean-Up teams, eyeing any suspicious person keenly until they prove to me they aren't a threat, often earning me harsh stares from their companions. The two of us look out of place in our "normal" clothing, neither of us dressing up, as we forgot that it was, in fact, the 31st, meaning a costume would've provided a good disguise in case we do come across any dangers. Even as we walk, I bite at my lip, feeling very exposed in my current state, my fists clenching at my sides as I try to stop myself from fidgeting too much, knowing that a nervous disposition is a great disadvantage in a fight, should one break out.
"Hey can we get something to eat? I kinda want some food." Marko suddenly asks me, not waiting for my reply as he pulls me over to a nearby sweet stand, the vampire excited by the prospect of buying the sugary treats.
Uneasy, I stand and turn back to the crowd, watching each face closely, my gut starting to feel odd as I notice something odd about a certain few members of the crowd. Eyes widening in realisation, I grab the back of Marko's coat and drag him away from the stand and into the alley behind it, ignoring his protests as I clap a hand over his mouth.
"Be quiet." I command him in a low voice, giving him a warning look as I slowly take my hand away from his mouth.
"What are you doing?" He hisses at me, eyes narrowed.
"They're here." I respond, looking out at the crowd as I try to figure out what to do, thinking over my options until I notice that someone has spotted us over here; someone who I've already identified.
As I watch, they start to make their way over to the stand, casually wading through the people around them as they try to look inconspicuous, though the mere sight of them makes my pulse hitch.
Thinking quickly, I grab the front of Marko's jacket and pull him closer, pressing my back to the wall as I lean closer to his face, ignoring his shocked expression.
"Kiss me, quick!" I order him, wrapping my hands around his neck as he splutters slightly.
"What?"
"Do it!" I growl, pulling him closer.
Still shocked, the vampire leans in and presses his lips to mine, carefully kissing me until I yank on his hair, silently asking him to be a little more rough, to which he responds by shoving me harder into the wall, his hands gripping my hips much tighter. Groaning slightly, I momentarily forget why we're in this situation, letting myself enjoy the rough kisses as he ravishes my mouth with his tongue, only opening my eyes again to look briefly over his shoulder at the Boardwalk, noticing that the person is no longer there. Knowing this, I let the kiss come to its natural end, before pulling away.
"Thanks..." I say, awkwardly, blushing as he reluctantly lets me go, the vampire clearly wanting more as he allows his hand to linger at my hip a little longer than necessary.
"No problem." He wipes his mouth, grinning at me as he regains his composure, "What did you need it for?"
"One of them was coming over here, and it was the first thing I could think of." I admit sheepishly, rubbing the back of my neck.
"Right." Marko lifts an eyebrow, smirking, "How did you know it was one of them?"
I laugh, dryly, gesturing with my head for him to follow me back out into the crowd.
"Well, back in New Orleans, the head of the SRS realised one Halloween that our Soldiers need a disguise for this particular night, without being too conspicuous, so that they fit in but can also be recognised by each other. She decided that the mask of a plague doctor would be fitting. She said it works for us, because we're ridding the world of a "plague", just as they were." I roll my eyes, "Obviosuly, this makes them very easy for me to spot them, seeing as I used to dress up the same way."
"Oh, right." Marko nods, understandingly, evidently sending some mental explanation to the rest of the vampires, who are stationed around the Boardwalk.
"You can tell them apart, because they have a golden cross engraved just below the right eye on the mask, so we don't get mixed up with others." I clarify for him.
"Good to know." He frowns, "Did you say she decided? As in the head of the SRS is a girl?"
I nod, a little annoyed by the question, but knowing where he's coming from.
"Yep. Her name is Valentine Fletcher. She's the best fighter we've ever had and has the largest body count of all. Not even the Generals around the world come close to her efficiency, she's just too good. I've met her once, and she was also one of the most stuck-up princesses I've ever come across."
"I guess that's why she's the leader, then." Marko chuckles, throwing an arm around my shoulders.
"Excuse me." An unfamiliar voice interrupts us, a hand placing itself firmly on my shoulder as I turn around to face the person. My heart drops as I take in the eerie black beak-shaped mask, the golden cross glittering under the right eye as they catch the lights, the cloaked figure keeping a strong grip on my arm.
"Can I help you?" I ask, getting ready to run as Marko notices the cross, too.
"Yes, I was wondering if you could come with me." The Soldier says, though the tone in her voice is much more demanding, informing me that there is, in fact, no choice.
"I'd rather not." Without a second thought, I slam my arm into her elbow, snapping it inwards as she lets out a surprised cry, allwoig me time to duck under her and and push past her, sprinting away into the crowd with Marko hot on my heels.
Five loud gunshots sound behind us, the Soldier having shot at us with a hidden gun through the crowd, screams and shouts of fear and panic suddenly tearing through the air as the atmosphere suddenly becomes too real, the bullets smashing into the ground behind the two of us terrifying the costumed Boardwalk-goers. Instantly, the crowd around us starts pushing and shoving each other, the heaving current of people now pushing us along as they scramble to get to safety, arms flailing and legs kicking as they go, slowing our progress significantly. Growling in frustration, I pull Marko to the side, intending to reach the alley again, wincing when there are two more shots behind us, though I make it to safety without a scratch. It's only when I hear Marko's laboured breathing that I realise he wasn't so lucky.
"Shit, Marko, are you going to be alright? Can you keep moving?" I ask him, being to figure out where he was shot as he starts to sway on his feet, eyes drooping closed as the pain starts to eat away at him. Grimacing, I swiftly scan the area, spotting a large bin a little way away, which I drag him over to.
"Get in there and close the lid, you'll be safe." I tell him, opening it and giving him a leg up into the reeking interior, helping him settle as quickly as I can, before I go to move again, "I'll be back."
With one last look at him, I firmly shut the lid and start running down the alley, taking as many winding corners as I can, hoping to throw them off as I start to hear pounding footsteps behind me, shouts and calls seemingly coming from everywhere as I start to breathe harder, my pulse pounding in my ears. Adrenaline pumps through my veins, giving me the speed I need to get away from my pursuer, the air rushing harshly into my throat as I turn down another backroad.
A sudden gunshot, followed by a spike of agony in the back of my knee brings me to the floor, my body crashing into a discarded car as it rolls awkwardly to a halt, groans of pain swiftly starting to leave me. Gripping at the new wound on my leg, I try to force myself upright again, only to be kicked back to the ground again by a cloaked figure, who keeps kicking until I'm cowering on the ground, blood pouring down my face. When they are finished, they reach down and force me into a standing position, half-dragging me out of the alley and to the car park conveniently placed by the mouth of the road, where a circle of similarly clad people are waiting, the forms of three kneeling people visible in the dim light of the streetlights. Pulling me over to them, my attacker throws me to the ground in the centre of the circle, manhandling me onto my knees, drawing a small cry of pain from me.
Looking around at the three kneeling people, I feel my heart stop as I instantly recognise them: David, Dwayne and Paul, the three of them bloodied and beaten, burn marks littering their faces from the holy water that was most likely used on them. Horror and guilt flood me as I see them, David's head coming up so he can make eye contact with me, his blue eyes filled with hate and anger.
"Are we all here now?" Someone asks, their voice unfamiliar to me.
"No, there is one more." A voice calls from a little way away, Marko soon being forced onto his knees beside Paul as he is dragged into the light. The vampire is pale now, dark circles appearing under his eyes as his vampiric features break through, his body trying to keep itself from shutting down as he slowly bleeds out, the bullet wounds still oozing the crimson stuff out onto his shirt.
"Ok, that's everyone, we can get started." The person speaks again, this time sounding more decisive.
"(Y/n) (Y/l/n), you have been arrested for conspiring with the enemy, and for shooting a senior officer, willingly, instead of a vampire that was held hostage. Do you accept these charges?" Someone else says, the voice somewhat familiar, though I don't remember where from.
Knowing it is pointless to resist, I lower my head to my chest and reply.
"I do."
"And you are aware of the punishments that these crimes bring upon you?"
"I am."
"And they are?"
I take a deep breath, my muscles tense as I try to ignore the pain in my body.
"Execution on the sight of capture." I recite robotically, knowing them well.
"Good, you remember some form of honour." They sneer, before addressing the rest of the gathered Soldiers, "Are there any volunteers among us who would like to carry out the deed?"
"I do." My blood runs cold at the sound of the voice, my head lifting to look up at the Hunter that has stepped forwards.
"Elijah Forsyth, you wish to perform the necessary execution of (Y/n) (Y/l/n)?" The first speaker questions, confirming the name to me even as they take off their mask.
Instantly, the cold blue eyes lock with mine, the dark-haired Hunter giving me a poisonous look as he limps over to me.
"I do."
"Then it shall be so. Do what you must."
With those words, Elijah steps over to me, drawing a gun from his belt and cocking it deliberately, maintaining eye contact as he lowers it to my forehead.
As the weapon is brought to my skin, I keep my chin up, refusing to feel bad about the actions that brought me here in the first place. Without a word, I accept the fate that will befall me.

MASTERLIST
"Ambulance 61, truck 81, squad 3. House fire West Street Lane 54 45."
Upon hearing the announcement boom through the fire house, Gabriela Dawson found herself standing frozen. The sudden loudness made it clear of what awaited beyond those doors, getting the members of 51 on they feet.
Hopping to your feet, you made your way outside, though stopping in your steps upon noticing Gabby's posture. Tapping her shoulder, you gathered her attention. "Don't worry Dawson," You smiled reassuringly. "Casey and I will be right behind you."
Gabby was nervous, that much was obvious. Making it to truck took a lot of effort and strain on her part. She didn't want to feel so frightened, but she couldn't help the fact that every call gave her big nerves.
"Your boyfriend is the lieutenant," You joked casually. "You'll be fine."
You start changing into your gear, glancing up at Gabby as you do so. Clicking your tongue, you say, "Look, after shift. Tonight; you, me, Casey and Jay. A double date at Molly's."
She smiles and follows you into the truck, "Yeah, I'd like that."
Your friends settled inside, scooting over upon seeing you climb into the vehicle. Sitting next to Mouch, you leaned your head against his shoulder, listening closely to what was being said around you.
"What do you think?" Asks Herrmann, shifting his weight until he got comfortable in his spot. "Is this some kind of a oh-I-forgot-to-turn-off-the-stove call or is it something serious?"
You've been in stronger fires, burning 20 or more story building that sorta thing, making this something that was supposed to be easy peasy. It's a house fire. They happen every day unfortunately.
"I hope it's nothing serious. I barely slept last night," You tell him truthfully, remembering the toss and turning you had to go through.
Gabby nodded in understanding, "You feeling okay now?"
You nodded with a grimace, "Must be the Thai Jay and I had."
"Anyway," you began. "Isn't Street Lane like the fanciest part of Chicago or something?"
"Yeah that's where all the millionaires live," Otis replied, glancing behind the steering wheel ever so slightly in your direction.
You felt Mouch shrug, the sudden movement had your head rolling off his shoulder, though you were quick to place it back, Mouch tapping his palm against your head.
After 10 minutes or so, that ended up feeling like hours due to Gabby's constant taps against the floor of the vehicle, everyone jumped out of the truck, giving you the impression that the truck itself is on fire.
Outside, neighbors buzzed with anticipation, stepping out of the way when told to. "Everyone let's open up the roof! Y/LN you're with Severide on this one."
You gave Matt a nod of determination before running over to where squad is prepped to enter the burning house. The modern 3 story home on normal occasions looked mind blowing, giving everyone in passing envy to feel.
But at the moment each story was decorated with blazing fire, sucking out the luxury. "Y/LN there's a scared kid upstairs, her mom says she won't talk to us. We need you to try for us. "
You nod, "Yes Lieutenant."
Kelly gives you a rougish smile, one that used to make you week in the knees, "Good. Now go. Top floor."
With Mouch aiming the long ladders to the top window, you start climbing them. After climbing them up and down numerous amounts of times, the thought of doing so felt like a second nature now.
For a brief moment, you remembered how scared you were in the academy. You shook your head immediately, not quite understanding where the sentiment was coming from.
Was it just you or were you drifting off to memory land more often lately?
You grab the window by its sill, ignoring the flashing memories and throw yourself inside.
Your hands grasped your radio immediately, "I'm in chief. Fire department call out!"
There's no response so you put on your mask and make your way deeper inside the room. Glancing around, you assess the room for possible hiding spots.
Only to find none.
The king sized bed, similar to the one at your own home, is on fire and so is most of the furniture surrounding it. You kick the door of the wardrobe with your leg only to find no one inside.
You walk outside and into the wide hallway, barely being able to see from the smoke and blazing orange flames. You call out again, though louder this time before kicking open the first door to your left. "Fire department call out!"
The voice that answers is so faint that if Gabby were inside, she would've surely missed it. But as someone with experience, the voice was recognizable and you knew that there was someone inside. "Call out!"
Somehow, while the furniture around the window, including the window itself, was being eaten away by fire, the furniture by the door being safe from the fire.
Not for long.
You spot a toy box in the only avaliable corner in the room, moving ever so slightly. Almost as if someone was trying to get out.
Toys of all shapes and sizes are scattered all around the box, urging you to slowly make your way to it before pushing it over the proper way.
A gasp leaves your mouth involuntarily.
The little girl looked around 5, her body too small and fragile to belong to a girl older than that.
She looked at you with bright blue eyes, catching you off guard with the electrical glow they had. A story of fear pushed through her irises, letting you know of the trust issues that colored her.
The girl shakes her head violently and coughs out whatever she can, breaking your heart with the actions. Without a second thought, you pulled your mask over your head, taking it off even when it tangled itself with your hair. "I need you to come with me, sweetheart. The fire is growing and it's not safe here anymore. Your mommy is waiting for you outside, come sweetie let me help you."
If you could describe her anxiety with words, you'd compare it with the fire. Overwhelming and strong. "Hey, hey sweetie it's okay...I'm going to help you, my name's Y/N."
She looked at you, giving you the impression that she was analyzing you. Eventually she did seem to come to a conclusion that she indeed was not safe inside.
After her nod, you didn't waste time by placing your mask over her head, pressing the button to release oxygen. After scooping her into your arms, the little girl wrapped both her arms and legs around you. Grateful that she trusts you, you ran into the hallway and toward the very window you came through.
But Wallace Boden stopped you before you could do so much as take a step toward the door. "Y/LN go down immediately! The house is going to blow!!"
You heart races for a tiny bit and you sprint to the staircase. You feel the girl shaking in your arms but you don't let that stop you for a second, the need to get out taking over. Brushing your hand over her dirty, smoke colored hair you whispered into her ear. "You're gonna be okay..."
The pressure the fire had on the upstairs floor finally gathers into an explosion. The force of the blow sends you flying down the stairs, urging you to wrap yourself tighter against the child, protecting her with every fiber in your body. You back hurts immensely but you manage to stand up, "Chief!"
Fire continues to grow, ignoring your whimpers and coughs. Your ankle seemed to twist in the process of falling but you bite down your bottom lip, chewing down on it until you drew blood and walk no matter the pain.
You spot the open window, and don't think twice before sprinting toward it even with an ankle being the way it was. The ladders are placed securely placed against window stills, allowing you put the little girl on them and let Hermann take her despite her whails of protests.
While waiting for her to be helped down the ladders, you turned around and slammed the door shut behind you. The pain in your back intensifies and you feel you lip bleed from both the inside and outside.
And then you see it.
The fire just under the door, you feel the pressure it has on the door. It's going to burst.
Without thinking, and in just the right time - you jump out of the window.
The moment you're out and flying in the air the explosion that was building up finally breaks, sending everything to chaos.
You catch the ladders by the cold metallic railing just in time, though it doesn't take a second before your fingers start to loosen their hold.
Knowing that the ladder will slip right through your fingers, you urged your arms to push you upwards but with no avail. The pain you sustained was intense.
"Y/LN HANG ON. WE'RE GETTING YOU DOWN!" You hear your Chief yell and true to his words, you were lowered down.
It was sudden, the feeling of losing consciousness. Everything that had happened while you were inside seemed to catch up to you with great speed. The pain in your back and ankle, your rigid breathing and tight lungs, busted lip and bruised face. 5 feet in the air and you finally lose the hold you had on the ladder.
You fall to the ground and before you could even reach it - you were out cold.
***
You wake up in the hospital, April hovering over you with a warm smile. You try to move but you feel sore all over, your attempts at moving being a twitch of your fingers. "Take it easy Y/N. I'll go tell them they can come see you now."
Your mind starts replaying images of what happened. You smile lightly. I jumped out of a freaking window.
"April, is Jay-"
Your eyes widen when you see Jay rushing in, before you could even finish your question. April points to him with a smirk, leaving you two be and giving you privacy by pulling the curtain closed.
"Jesus Y/N you freaked me out." Jay sighed, immediately leaning in to kiss you forehead. Your eyes immediately spot the badge around his waist, it glimmers under the light above you. "Did you ditch work for me, babe?"
"Damn right I did," Your boyfriend replied, quite proudly you noted, leaning toward your parted lips with his own. The kiss was sweet, filled with unshed worry that turned to relief after a moment. It felt as though Jay was reassuring both you and himself that you were okay. "I came here as soon as I heard what happened."
You squeeze his hand in gratitude, watching with teary eyes as he brushes a few misplaced strands of hair out of your face, tucking them softly behind your ears. Jay's brother Will, come in the room soon after. Behind him stood Jeff, a very close friend of yours.
"Hey guys." You greet them, rather brightly after Jay wiped a fallen tear off your face. "Jeff how's the med life been treating you?"
You missed seeing Jeff at work, daring to admit it felt lonely without him to a degree. "Eh, good enough. I miss the fire."
Will slapped his shoulder lightly.
"Yeah, I bet you do," You said with a chuckle, before gesturing to yourself and your body with a hand that wasn't held tightly in Jay's. "I mean, how could someone not miss this."
Everyone laughed at your words until Will deemed appropriate to speak up in regards to your medical condition, "Well, Y/N... You and your baby are going to be just fine. I'll get started on the discharge-"
Baby? "Baby? Will what did you say?" Jay asled, his face looking the same level of confused as yours.
"I said that Y/N and her baby are-"
"I'm pregnant?" You asked in disbelief. How?
"Yes Y/N you're 9 weeks along." said Will with a smile, "Congratulations you two."
We were careful, was your only thought. Not that the news were bad.
Just surprising.
"But I'm on the pill-" You started, only to remember the medication you took a few months ago as a way to fight away the sickness you were feeling.
You weren't a paramedic, nor an doctor in any sense. But it wasn't hard to put two and two together.
"Will...Can certain antibiotics dilute my birth control and stop it from working?"
Will creased his eyebrows, but deciding to answer nevertheless. "Yes. It depends on which ones you use but most of the time that's the case," Will confirms your suspicion. "I'm guessing you didn't know."
"We didn't," answered Jay for the both of you.
You didn't even feel the onset of tears that rushed down your cheeks, "I'm going to be a mom."
Happiness surged through your body, making it the moment you knew that you wanted this. Your pregnancy might have been unexpected but you wouldn't change it for the world. One look at Jay, who had his face nested against your twined hands and all was confirmed.
You pull yourself up into a sitting position, kissing his head until he rose his head to meet your eyes with the same amount, if not more tears in his blue eyes. Jay pulled you in for a passionate kiss, not caring about the company. "A mini us."
Your smile reached the sky and you put a hand to your belly as a result. Something so beautifully pure and innocent grew inside of you, being the gift of love.
You're having a child with the man who loves you like the night sky loves it's stars.
But then, so suddenly guilt washes over you. The air around you changed, making Jay furrow his brows. You could've lost the baby today. A baby you didn't even know you were carrying. If you knew, there was no way in hell you would've walked into that house and continued working no matter how much you loved your job.
"Your mommy and daddy love you." You whispered, running your free hand over your slightly swollen stomach, "Your mom is so sorry for what happened today."
Jay kissed your temple, reassuring you that none of what had happened was your fault. A moment later, you found yourself smiling. You met Will's eyes. "Will you're gonna be an uncle."
The older Halstead shrugged, but the pride and joy was flickering in his eyes as he scanned the monitor. "You bet. I'm happy for you two, man really I am."
"Don't worry bro. Your time will come too," Jay told him before he stood up and hugged his brother. You wouldn't be surprised, him and Natalie are an adorable couple.
"I'm happy for you Y/N. Congratulations." Jeff rubbed your shoulder. You beamee at him. "I'll go and get them."
By them he meant your colleagues; family.
Silvie and Gabby were the first ones to be rushed in, followed by the rest of the fire house until the trauma room was crammed with pure muscle. "Y/N are you okay??"
Jay, who had left the room with Will to sign some papers pushed through to stand by your side once again, "They're okay."
You tried your best to not laugh at their confused expressions, barely even holding it in when Kelly muttered something about how Jay wasn't even injured.
On que Will turns on the ultrasound (perhaps because the brothers talked it through in the hallway) and gasps are heard all around, filling the small room with emotions that ranged from surprise and disbelief to pure joy for you and Jay.
With gel on your belly, Will starts moving the transducer and soon a small baby can be seen on the screen, a really small baby, but a baby nevertheless. Tears in your eyes piled up once again and you squeeze Jay's hand joyfully. You could hear Silvie say, "I think I'm going to faint."
Life just became a hell of a lot more exciting and you couldn't wait to experience every part of it with the man you love most on this world.
Rounds of congratulations happen after that, each and every one of them saying different things once they're left alone with you.
Mouch asked Jay to send a kiss to Sargeant Platt; Hermann got Cindy and his kids on video chat, continously welcoming you to the family life; Severide actually had gloss in his eyes because he was so happy, though he did everything in his power to not admit to it.
Gabby and Casey canceled your double date at Molly's because they want you on bed rest. They said they'll bring takeout to your shared place instead.
"Just no Thai, please."

When we leave the party we have to stop at McDonald's for something quick to eat before returning to the infamous palm tree lined path leading up to our school's main quad. Ambling from the vehicle, there's a lot of stumbling around since we're drunk as fuck but as a group, we each make it into the dorm without mishap. Letitia and I watch the others as we go one by one to our rooms dropping each other off until it's just us two. She puts a finger to her lips and giggling soundlessly, follows me into my room collapsing flat on her back on my bed as I close the door.
"I LOVE your bed set," she swoons hugging one of my pillows.
"You here to cuddle my pillows or me," I tease walking kicking my shoes off and approaching. I climb onto the bed, straddling her waist and snatching the pillow to toss it to the floor. "Cause I'm right here, baby love, in ALLLL my glory," I stress rubbing my fingertips down my chest to my stomach as her eyes follow my nails.
"How do you get away with being so arrogant," she smirks with a slight questioning squint.
"Oop!.. Arrogant?"
"My bad did I say that out loud," she covers her mouth.
"You did! But that's fine, you can think I'm arrogant. I adore me because I love beautiful things, is that so wrong?"
"So do I."
"Yeah? Well, I'm in need a soft touch from a special girl who can enjoy me with me. You down?"
"I want the same," she whispers meekly, fingers rolling over the fabric of my dress before slipping down to lightly stroke the skin of my thigh bringing me goosebumps. She seems reserved, I want her to ravage me. I see her watching my lips.
"How many girls have you been with?"
"I.. Don't know. A handful?"
"Would've thought less."
"Why?'
She's so mild and gentle, which isn't like her usual bold personality.
"Mild and gentle," she huffs blowing out her lips. "You know you just said that to ME!"
"OOP! Then we even, ain't we!" I cover my mouth like she did.
Her build is slim and boxy but athletic with some slight curve which I like. It may be wrong but it reminds me of a nigga in a way.. and that turns me on even though I know she's very feminine. Maybe it's the liquor but my fantasies are going wild and I want her to top me with my strap which I feel like grabbing now. I feel like if she were serious, she could really deliver.
But I also like her feminine energy and at the same time I don't want that to fluctuate. I like the way she's stroking my skin with her fingers so gently, it feels good. Winding my hips to grind against her I don't even know what I'm grinding on anymore. My mind's going back to Chris. I can teach him how to fuck. He is too fine to be so bad at it. What if I called him now for a threesome? I'm just so horny, would Letitia be down for it?
"Phoeb."
"Yeah?"
"You mind if I make myself a bit more comfortable?"
"Girl if you don't take these damn clothes off!" I tug at her dress letting it go and she chuckles as I lift off of her so she can sit up. I start to take my gear off too. "Yeah, we supposed to be fuckin.. Sitting here fully dressed like some fools, what the hell?"
"Right? I came to see some ASS for the free 99!"
"Some ass? Oh girl, all you had to do was ask, I love throwing this ass! In fact, let me set up my camera to record."
When I say my camera, I mean my phone of course. It's what I use to film all of my content for sales. I send Chris a little text to get to me ASAP and I set the phone up on its stand and start the video. Impatient, I head to Letitia and grab the elastic of her panties pulling them down off of her as she's knocked to the side from how rough I am.
"Well damn Phoebe!"
"I want what I want."
Pushing her backward to fall onto my bed, I check the angle of the camera once more before I press her thighs apart. Getting the memo, she lifts her legs high and holds her own thighs as a help. I rub at her outer lips but for the sake of not blocking the camera, I climb up to straddle her waist and face the camera, licking her as I watch the lens. At this angle I can reach the whole kitten to play with.. and I do as she whispers.. but I can also focus on that point where all those nerves meet. I hope all the sucking is loud enough to hear on camera, I know the spit is visible.
I alternate between licking lightly and giving attention to different areas with her fingers in my hair making me wonder if I need to constrain her hands to that she doesn't pull on my lace. This isn't my actual hair, it can come off if someone is way too rough.
"Oooh," she hums palming the back of my head with one hand and rubbing on my ass with the other. She pulls my panties to the side and starts to return the favor as I let her use my tongue to move closer to orgasm. Although her licking duties suffer due to her focus being on the pleasure radiating through her kitty, I don't mind that much. I can't blame her, I'm great at head. She really loves the feeling, I can tell. The way she's holding my head though, I'm having flashbacks to some good sessions and now even more than before, I want her to use my strap-on on me! I wait until she gets her first nut of the night before I stop and turn around, letting her taste herself. She's getting grabbier and pulling on me so I grind against her and for a while we just make out while her fingers slip in and out of me.
Eventually, I need more than fingers but I know she's craving too since she's grinding back to the point of rubbing her kitten against my peach for some delicious friction. We need more.
I pause her and rise gracefully, bounding to my toy chest for my double-sided blue dildo and one of my many water based lubes. Rubbing down both ends, I steady it between us as she greedily snatches up an end pulling it inside of herself. I take the other end and do the same, watching her as she attempts to hoard the length. I have to sit closer with my thighs over hers to get my fill. Together, we both hold it steady with a hand between us as we toy ourselves, grinding faster and faster. She grabs my boob, squeezing and I pull her in closer wrapping her in another solid kiss while fucking the shit out of myself and her.
That's when I see a silhouette from the corner of my eye and almost have a heart attack.
"You wanted me to be the link in your lil pussy chain," Chris slurs sitting on the bed, shirt already off.
"What you doing here," I frown still holding onto Letitia.
"Why is he in here," she asks, not stopping just as I'm not. I'm close.
"I don't know," I admit.
"You told me to come over," he says but I don't remember that. "..When you texted me? Hol'up." He pulls up messages and shows me my name on a thread.  I have to read it twice.
"I sure did invite him.. Damn."
He takes his shoes off followed by his pants and he pulls out a condom having come prepared.
"Y'all getting it in. Where can I fit?"
"You can lay flat and let Letitia ride your face while I ride that dick my way," I point directing him where and how to lay. I also direct Letitia and rub over her chest, boobs, and shoulders telling him how she likes it and where to lick as she grinds on his face with no regard for his air flow, as it should be.
Once he gets the hang of that, I stroke up his shaft with a little of the lube that still glossing my hand and I sit on it gradually feeling every groove that I can through the condom before riding it, getting it the way I like it. He's a lucky man tonight getting to share a bed with two lovely visions.
"This video about to be nasty," I smirk throwing my ass against his pubic bone.
I lift off and suck it a few times and it tastes like sweet rubber before I climb back onto him and give him that work that has him cumming within the next few minutes. I keep stroking him with my hand to get him hard again coaxing a second round from his as I do all the work to get myself off.
After round two he's done, but he still wants to watch. I'm over him, however. I don't need him around if he can't keep up so I send him away and lock my door. For the next twenty minutes Letitia and I fool around until we both start to get sleepy. To combat it, we stand.
Turning, I throw my ass against her waist and she catches it while I watch the camera lens.
"Well work, bitch, I got the dollars," she laughs standing on my bed to jump off and grab her bag. She instantly starts dying on the floor when she looks inside. "Bitch!... I got six ones and some change I'm a have to pop you in the ass with some quarters!!"
"Hell nah!" She's rolling and I can't help but laugh with and at her as I choose a song, starting to roll my hips as a warm up. Captain Hook by Meg the Stallion.
"You better not!" I hold my boobs and keep looking back to make sure she's not picking up that change with her goofy ass which only makes her snicker. "Aight shut up."
She keeps making me wanna laugh though I never miss a beat, being a pro twerker. I'm easily the best and highest tipped at Mickey's. I'm one of two who has the control to do isolations and pop one cheek at a time. So that's what I show Ticia and the camera.
"AYYYY," she yells waving her ones in the air before throwing them all at once, "GET IT YESSS!" She picks them back up to smack off her hand one at a time making it trickle with the six bills. Then I catch her getting up to go through my perfumes and I roll my eyes.
"Girl, get out my shit. You worse than Natalie!"
"One spray!"
"No, move," I laugh, but I eventually decide to share. One spray. Of course she loves it. It does smell really good. In fact, it's turning me on more because it smells so good.
"Okay show me how to twerk." She jumps back onto my bed and I turn away so she can see my ass.
"It's hard to explain.. You just," Left cheek, right cheek, boom boom boom, then both. She tries it but she can't isolate. I'm not surprised apparently not many can.
I do it quickly with the rhythm, bending and even squatting to show off enjoying her attention on me. I wish I had a pole, I'd really dance, but that's fine I hit a split and bounce before crawling over to her and pulling her face to mine placing that kiss on her. That did it. She starts pulling on my waist, gripping on my ass. This is what I wanted. I need her to sate this unquenchable thirst within me.
I lean into her sending her spine to line up against the side of the bed and I climb over her thighs onto her lap to deepen the kiss as her hands roam my arms, my waist, my hips, my thighs. I kiss down her clavicle and to her small handful of boobs.
"Get that dildo," she orders and I snatch it off the bed pushing one end into her before treating myself as we fuck again.
"I love sex," I smile lost in how amazing it feels.
"Duh, look at all that lube in your drawer, sis," she chuckles, "For what?"
"FOR REASONS!"
xoxo.
In the morning, I roll over and open my eyes looking up to see that I slept on the floor butt naked. I just.. fell asleep apparently. Sitting up, I have the beginnings of a headache so I take two tylenol with some juice from my mini fridge. I can't believe I fucked the good sis last night... well, actually I can. My phone is sitting up on the stand. I walk over to see it about to die any second and I stop the video. I'm tempted to watch it now. I don't even remember everything we did last night.
But now that I think about it, I was drunk. She was drunk. We all were drunk. Even Natalie was drunk. Why did I let homegirl drive me while drunk? Well... that answers itself. All that swerving almost took your girl out of here, I DO remember that. If that would have happened then what magnificence would these painfully ordinary souls then gaze upon?
How awful, I'll need to think about that next time. If I can.

Oh Disneyland Paris sounds fun yeah! Were you and your roommate already close then? I went to Walt Disney's world with my aunt and cousin when I was like 11 but it would've been way more fun if I could've taken my best friend with me for sure. Maybe we can go to the one in Paris now that she lives just 3h away from me! Oh I see, sounds like LA was really fun for you yeah! your roommate didn't mind third wheeling tho? Hahaha
Yeah Canada is beautiful but what I liked about it the most was the massive improvement in quality of life I had compared to where I was living before and just being able to be who I am and people accepting me for it. Not being worried about violence 24/7 felt pretty fucking great too. So yeah I highly recommend living there if you ever get a chance. But I am loving Portugal so far, people are a bit more judgemental here tho but I like that it's easier to travel to a lot of countries I've always wanted to go to. Everywhere you go there are pros and cons tho so sorting out priorities is key. But Toronto is my favourite of all the places I've been, before living there for a year I had already been two times!
Jesus 50 states, sometimes I forget how big the US is. And you can totally do it if you plan it out! After watching Bly Manor tho I really want to go to Vermont especially during autumn season looks really pretty! There's this fic I love (only the sun by prestonarchives) where Dani and Jamie go on a road trip from Vermont to Maine and I did their entire journey on Google maps street view bc I was so obsessed with this one chapter fanfic I had to immerse myself entirety in it hahaha. So now I want to go there irl. Here's the link if you haven't read it before!
https://bit.ly/3BLy4WR
Omg I totally remember reading that on CBML and being a bit confused bc I was like why would she think you can't see the moon from the great wall of China HAHAHA but I thought it was really funny and endearing yeah it's even funnier now that I know you said it irl haha.
Oh so ENFP-T means extraverted, intuitive, feeling and prospecting personality with a bit of turbulence. Which just means you're curious, perceptive, enthusiastic, an excellent communicator, festive and good-natured. On the other hand you can be disorganized, unfucosed, a people pleaser, overcommitted, too optimistic and restless.
I wonder what Jamies and Danis mbti are as well as their zodiac signs 🤔 I think Jamie might be an ISTP-A bc she's definitely an introvert, very practical, stubborn, assertive, layed back and energetic at the same time. And Dani is either an ENFP-T like you or an ESFJ-T with the whole selfless thing going on.
AE already made it canon that Jamie's an aries (and it makes sense) but I can't figure Dani out. I've thought about her being a leo ♌ bc she's generous, passionate, warm-harted and dominant in her own way and THE HAIR haha. But she's got some pisces ♓ vibes going on too...idk. aaand I'm back at it again with the astrology signs haha.
To be fair your recent drunken exp it was dark and at least you didn't think the road sign was a bear or something (don't know what kind of wild animals you've got over there) that you wrestled with and ended up in a ditch and your best friend let you believe that happened for 3 years up until recently haha. 😂 but yeah some things happen for a reason, having life threatening health issues doesn't sound great tho, but I guess it's a good thing it stops you from drinking too much and making dumb decisions. And hey maybe I secretly want that to happen again idk maybe moving countries is not exciting enough, I have to go out and make a complete drunken fool out of myself in a completely foreign place hahaha. I guess that did kinda happen last month when my best friend came to visit me from Spain and we got drunk on wine, I got lost on the way back home and it was way past curfew. 🤔 shit I'm 29 will I ever learn...
Episode 9 is 😢😍🥰😰😭🤬☠️ just the worst roller-coaster I didn't even know I was on. Haha I was more pissed off than heartbroken the first time I watched it ngl.
Well then maybe the way you do accents is friendly and funny so people can't really get mad at you haha. Like Dani! Oh so that's called a Geordie accent! I see, it's really really cool. AE said Jamie is from Lancashire but that's a whole county isn't it? Idk if there's a specific accent to this region. Knowing you speak kinda like Jamie is something else tho, I think if anyone who spoke like her ever talked to me irl I wouldn't be able to pay attention to what they were saying 😂 just the accent haha.
Oh so you already have 4k something words for it nice. I'm kinda starting to feel an obsession with this medieval AU growing in me, I made a Pinterest board just for it ngl hahaha but I'm still resisting creating anything for it, I did a face study yesterday for Dani and Jamie to see if I finally pick up the idea and just do it but my brain was still like "I don't want to do this rn" and was just being a little bitch about it so I'll just let it cook for longer see if we can reach an agreement eventually (if ever) haha.
Glad to hear you had a good weekend! Even if it left you feeling exhausted in the end. And yeah it makes sense for you to say you don't have favourites haha! Have a great week Colour, take care! 👋✨
Yeah me and my roommate have been friends since we were like 14 so when we went to Disney Land we asked if we could be roomed together because we've been best friends for that long now... been best friends since school and now we live together. She's seen me at my best, my worst, has seen me in all my stages in life and has been there for a lot of the rough stuff I've been through and I've been there for all the stuff she's been through!! Nah she didn't mind at all we had some moments where me and my ex would just go and be a couple and have dates but my ex didn't want me travelling that far alone so invited my roommate too because she didn't like the thought of me flying 11hours alone or being in airports alone so my roommate came with me and we had a great time Awwh good I'm glad it was such a nice place and that you didn't worry about violence all the time but I'm so sorry you ever had to worry about that anyway that can't be easy. I would honestly love to live in Canada I really hope I get chance one day... I'm glad you're loving Portugal but sorry people are judgemental there but I am glad it's easy for you to travel around to other places... oh yeah every place has it's pros and cons I mean England has some pros but it sure has a lot of cons too so I know all about that Yeah America is SO big but I do want to get around all 50 states at some point and I am stubborn enough and determined enough to make it happen eventually even if I don't get around them all until I'm like 70 I'll make it happen haha!! No I haven't read that fic but it sounds amazing so I'll definitely check it out thank you for sending me the link Yeah... that really happened to me and it was just a dumb moment where I had this momentary lapse of knowledge in my brain and now I look back at that question and I'm just like... "you idiot" and this is why people are shocked when I get questions in quizzes right because I have said some really dumb stuff but I'm glad people found it funny and endearing... and I'm glad it makes it better to know I really said that haha Oooo I didn't know that, I like that and I think it's definitely fitting for me!! I think from what you've said about what ENFP-T means Dani could easily be that too and I don't know anything about the other one but I will take your word for it matching Dani because you know way more about this stuff than I do. I have no idea for Jamie though. And with zodiac signs I love that Amelia looked at Jamie and thought she was an Aries, as for Dani I have NO idea what her zodiac would be... in CBML she's a Leo but in MoU with what I have planned for her birthday she'd be a virgo but I don't know anything about zodiacs... all I know is all the pieces I've ever met have been the opposite of what Dani is so maybe that has something to do with their whole charts but I know a lot of other people always make her a Pieces and I trust what other people say about zodiacs more than what I know about them because I really know NOTHING about them haha Nah I knew it was a road sign because of how heavy and hard it was- nah we have no bears where I live... I don't think we have many dangerous animals where I live... got a couple of badgers that can be pretty aggressive but that's about it we don't have much that is scary here or at least not in the little part of England I live. Having life threatening health issues has been hard and since having my spleen removed in January (that was the surgery I needed to try and fix the issue I had) things are even harder now because I have to take antibiotics for the rest of my life to stop me getting any infections because if I ever get a chest infection now or a really bad cold it can be really dangerous but I take it all in my stride and not drinking is just a way to make sure the antibiotics actually work properly and to make sure nothing happens to me... and like you said, means I don't do anything dumb too... haha drunken stories are the best I have been lost a few times when I've been drunk... and I don't think you do learn, I have siblings that are
like 40 and still do dumb shit... I know at 27 I am still doing dumb shit too I don't think I'll ever learn haha 😂 Its such an emotional roller coaster and honestly I was just devastated the first time I watched it... no TV show or movie has ever made me cry the way Bly Manor did when I first saw it and it still makes me cry now. I can cry just thinking about that last episode. I definitely mean it in a friendly way so I hope it comes across like that. Yeah the accent in Billy Elliot is a Geordie accent and its my favourite accent there are other accents around the north that are called different things. Yeah Lancashire is a county and again in Lancashire there are loads of different accents I can't really pinpoint Jamie's down to a city I just know it's Northern. I'm from Yorkshire but don't have a strong Yorkshire accent I just have a Northern accent, like people never believe I'm from the place I'm from because I don't sound like I am but you can definitely tell I'm northern... honestly there are so many accents in England... you can drive for two hours in any direction in England and the accent will change like two times at least it's insane... see a lot of people say that but I am not a HUGE fan of the northern accent and I think it's because I grew up there. I much prefer Dani's accent to Jamie's but like I said to me, Jamie just talks normal there is no accent really haha Yeah 4k words for it but it's all jumbled up it's not like a chronological story yet it's just all over the place haha but I hope I can get it all structured properly soon!! Awwh good I'm glad you're already interested in this medieval AU!! That makes sense you're resisting creating for it but I think it's so cool you did a face study for Dani and Jamie even if you didn't wanna finish it I think letting things cook for a while is always a good idea if you're not in the right headspace right away I had such a good weekend but I am so tired and today I had a busy day too celebrating my roommate's boyfriend's birthday so I've had so many days that have been so busy and right now I am just really to sleep haha!! Yeah definitely don't have favourites but I have spent more time with one of my nieces than the others simply because I always look after her if her mum and dad are working and I'm not... like until I start this new job I am looking after her for an hour every day after school while she waits for her mum and dad to finish work but I don't have favourites haha!! Thank you so much I hope you had a great weekend and that you have a great week too!!

Tumblr media
Kara was becoming a frequent presence more and more in life as time went on. She was always there for me to count on, even when I didn't know I needed it, and I was extremely grateful. I wasn't even sure why she ever took a liking towards me, but I was lucky she did.
She'd come over to mine every other evening and invited me over to hers as well, and I welcomed the distraction whilst in the healing process of Anna and I's breakup.
I'd see the she-devil around work as little as I could manage, along with her new girlfriend – because of course they were dating now – but I tried not to let it affect me. Every time I found myself self-deprecating, I tried to remember it wasn't my fault. She was just a shitty person.
Eventually I stopped getting pitiful looks off people around the office. It wasn't helping with my self-esteem. Kara was a big help with that though, managing to glare people into looking the other way. It was funny after a while, how she stuck up for me like nobody had before.
I wanted to thank her somehow, for being there for me, but I wasn't sure what to do or how to even go about it. I wanted it to be meaningful, but I was never good at saying things outright. Maybe I could write it, I was always better with written words...
"...could do with a bagel right about now," Kara said, practically salivating at the thought.
I laughed, raising an eyebrow. "We literally just ate lunch. You're always hungry."
"Girl's gotta eat," she said simply, patting her stomach.
I rolled my eyes playfully, looking back to my computer for a moment. I was browsing Amazon for a new bookshelf and I asked Kara over to my desk for her opinion.
"This one," I said, turning my monitor around so she could see. "It doesn't look too hard to put together and it would fit well next to my TV, right?"
She leaned down to get a better look, nodding her head. "Yeah, that could work. Are you good at putting things together?"
I almost snorted. "No way."
"I can help if you want," she said with a laugh. "I'm pretty good at DIY if I do say so myself."
"Cheers." I smiled with amusement, watching how her eyes lit up at my dismay. Worth it.
My smile faded when I heard the irritating voice of Katy. I saw she was in our department, talking to one of the other reporters. Her whole being infuriated me and I could never control my annoyance when I saw her. She glanced at me, smirking, before continuing her chat with whoever.
"I can mix her coffee with laxatives if it makes you feel better," Kara spoke, gaining my attention. It took me a moment to realise what she said, and when I looked at her, I saw the seriousness in her eyes.
I cracked a smile, shaking my head. "You can't do that."
She mirrored my smile, shrugging. "Well, I could, but I shouldn't."
"There should be hearing aids invented that simply tune out her voice," I said, rolling my eyes a little. "She really bugs me."
"Yeah, it sucks, but at least it's a very rare occurrence that she's here," Kara said, trying to find the bright side of things.
"I guess, but– woah!"
I widened my eyes when I saw Kara suddenly reach in front of my face, catching a pencil sharpener in her hand. She looked down to me with concern and also surprise, before looking up to see where it came from.
"Oh my god, Y/N, that was totally my bad," Katy apologised, approaching my desk.
I stared up at her, surprised at the hint of mischief in her expression.
"That was supposed to go to Jack," she continued, pointing to the desk behind me. "I've got terrible aim."
Something told me only half of that was true.
"You should be more careful next time," Kara said, dropping the sharpener into Katy's hand. She was definitely not impressed as she added, "That could have hurt someone."
"Sorry," Katy repeated, flashing us an 'apologetic' smile before leaving to give Jack the sharpener.
I breathed out with relief, only just realising how close of a call that was. I looked to Kara appreciatively.
"Nice reflexes."
"Yeah," she said, half heartedly, still watching Katy with narrowed eyes, before looking to me. "You okay?"
"Thanks to you," I pointed out. "You really are my own personal hero."
Kara smiled, rolling her eyes as if to distract from the pink spreading across her cheeks. "Whatever."
I scrunched my nose, smiling at how cute she looked, before looking back to my computer. "I guess I'm buying a bookshelf. And you're gonna help me, right?"
"Right."
"Awesome."
***
Some more time passed before I realised how I wanted to thank Kara. It wasn't a big deal, nothing flashy or exciting. In fact, it wasn't the best thing ever, but it was all I could think of that didn't seem silly or fake.
I wrote her a letter. It thanked her for being there for me throughout everything, and how her being there brought us closer together as friends which I was grateful for. It said how I was lucky to have her in my life and so was anybody else who had her, too. She was gracious and kind one of those rare, beautiful souls that I couldn't let go by unnoticed without at least thanking properly.
I knew she didn't like big gifts and lavish presents, so I didn't bother. It wouldn't have felt right anyway – I wanted something more personal. So, I had the note ready to give with some flowers and a little Supergirl keyring that was soon to be explained.
I heard her knock on my door after work and that's when I readied the gifts on the kitchen counter.
"Hey," I greeted the blonde when opening the door.
She looked up and smiled brightly when she saw me. "Hey, I found those Jaffa Cakes you said you missed from home on the way here and thought I'd buy them for the movie." She held a packet of Jaffa Cakes in the air excitedly. "What d'you think?"
I stepped to the side to let her in, accepting the Jaffa Cakes, and grinned widely, unable to contain my appreciation.
"Kara, these aren't just something you 'find' on the way here," I told her, looking up to see her staring at me with anticipation. "You would have had to go to some sort of special store or something. Somewhere that specialises in British sweets and stuff."
Kara waved her hand dismissively. "It wasn't that hard."
I raised an eyebrow knowingly.
She suppressed a smile. "Okay, it was a little hard."
I laughed and moved forward, surprising her with a big hug. She chuckled, returning the embrace.
"If I knew Jaffa Cakes would make you this happy, I would've brought you a lot more," she joked as I pulled away.
"I've got something for you," I said, meeting her eyes with excitement.
"Not Jaffa Cakes I hope, otherwise this is embarrassing."
"Kara!"
"I'm kidding, go on," she said, laughing contagiously. "What have you got, Y/N?"
I put the Jaffa Cakes on the kitchen counter before grabbing the three items I wanted to give her.
"Well, that's a lot," Kara joked again, but I saw the appreciation glimmer in her eyes.
"Come sit down," I said, leading her to the couch. She followed and joined me as I sat down, facing her. "This is a thank you gift. It's kind of dumb, a little embarrassing, but I want to give it to you."
Kara had a smile permanently stuck on her face as she watched me. It made me feel a little nervous under her gaze, but I kept going.
"So, I wrote you a letter because I'm really bad at saying things," I explained, holding out the envelope. "English. Saying– speaking English. God, why am I so nervous?"
She laughed and accepted the envelope.
"But yeah, that's everything. So, you can read that first," I finished, nodding.
I watched hesitantly, as she pulled the note from the envelope and opened it up. Her eyebrows scrunched together with concentration as she read, and I knew I'd written a lot but it didn't make me any less patient to see what she'd say afterwards.
After what felt like forever, she looked up with an expression I couldn't read.
"I made it weird, didn't I?" I said, chewing on my lower lip.
Kara pressed her lips together and shook her head. "Y/N... I... you have a wonderful way with words."
I breathed out with relief.
"Thank you for saying those things," she said, resting a hand on mine, sending shivers up my arm. "It was sweet. And you're welcome."
I smiled softly. "I'm glad you like it." I held out the flowers adding, "These are for you. Just a little something extra."
Kara chuckled, accepting the flowers. "They're beautiful."
"And finally, there's this," I said, holding out the little blue box. "It's kinda stupid, but yeah."
She accepted the box, too, opening it up to reveal a Supergirl keychain.
"So, Supergirl is National City's hero, right? Well, I thought it would be funny because you're, well, you're mine. I mean, you helped me through my shitty breakup, and even before then, you've always been a big help with work. I just thought it could be a little reminder that I'm grateful for all the good you do. Like Supergirl, y'know?"
Kara lifted the keychain from the box and laughed, nodding her head. "This is amazing, Y/N. I love it."
"You do?"
"Yes," she said, lowering the keychain and meeting my eyes with her excited blue ones.
"Good. I... good."
She grinned, leaning forward to give me a quick hug. I smiled to myself, glad she liked it. My hammering heartbeat relaxed when we pulled away.
"Now to find a place to put it," she said, making me chuckle. "Wait a minute..." She reached into her coat pocket and pulled out her keys, attaching the keychain onto them, joining a fluffy cat and some other keys. "There. Perfect."
"Perfect."
***
I watched as the barista put whipped cream on my hot chocolate and sprinkled chocolate powder on top, making me excited. It was a chillier day in National City today, so I was picking up a drink on my break at Noonan's when I felt a familiar presence beside me.
"Y/N, hey."
I glanced over my shoulder and swallowed hard when I saw Anna, smiling awkwardly at me.
"Here you go," the barista grabbed my attention, placing my drink in front of me. "Enjoy!"
"Cheers," I said, grabbing my cup, before turning around to see Anna still, watching me. "Er, hey."
"I see you're also on your break," she noted, nodding to the drink in my hand. "Tea?"
I shook my head, still wrapping my head around the fact that we were speaking. I'd been successfully avoiding her for a few months now, and eventually I got over her and what she did to me. I didn't understand why she was attempting to talk to me now though – surely she had gotten the hint?
"Hot chocolate," I corrected her, pursing my lips, unsure whether to leave.
Anna accepted her drink from the barista before glancing at me. "It's been a while since we've spoken. I've been meaning to have a chat with you. I know you didn't want to speak to me, but I thought that it's been a while since then, so maybe you're up for it now?"
I raised my eyebrows. "I don't really know what there is to say, Anna."
"Please," she added, her voice suggesting a hint of desperation. "I won't be long."
I felt the heat from my hot chocolate in my hand remind me that I was going to head back to CatCo, but Anna seemed like she had something important to say. And I felt like I was emotionally mature enough to finally hear her out, or at least be civil with her, for the sake of our work relationship.
"Yeah, sure, okay," I agreed reluctantly, before leading her to a table by the window.
We sat opposite each other, clutching our takeaway cups nervously, unable to meet each other's eyes. Until finally, she spoke.
"You seem well," she said softly, and I could feel her gaze on me, "since, y'know..."
"Since I broke up with you after you cheated on me," I reminded her, meeting her eyes.
She licked her lips, nodding. "Right."
"What was it exactly you wanted to talk to me about, Anna?"
"I broke up with Katy," she said abruptly.
"It wasn't exactly a relationship destined to work out considering the circumstances in which it formed, was it?"
She gave me a knowing look. "Y/N."
I shook my head. "What do you want me to say, Anna? How would you like me to react?"
She was staring into my eyes as if expecting me to know what she was thinking, but I didn't. Not anymore.
"I honestly couldn't care less if you broke up with her," I said, truthfully. "It doesn't affect me. Quite frankly, nothing you do affects me. I've moved on."
"I shouldn't have cheated on you."
I breathed out slowly, trying to contain any oncoming anger I was feeling. "I don't care anymore."
"It's nice that Kara is helping you through," she added, a hint of jealousy in her voice, making me roll my eyes.
"Sure is."
"Are you guys a thing or something?"
I stared at her dumbfounded. "You're kidding, right?"
"No," she said, shaking her head. She was deadly serious.
I chuckled with distaste. "You think I owe you an answer? After everything you did to me?"
"So you are together," she said, a little disappointedly.
I clenched my jaw. "No, Anna, we're not. We're just friends if you must know. Not that it's any of your business."
She nodded, glancing down at her coffee cup with a hint of a smile. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes once again.
"Did you wanna talk to me just to remind me of all the shit you put me through?"
"No, no... that's not it," she said, meeting my eyes again. "I broke up with Katy."
I sighed. "You said."
"I broke up with her because I'm still in love with you."
I raised my eyebrows with surprise. Definitely wasn't expecting that.
"You don't seem mad about that," she pointed out hopefully.
"I don't seem happy either," I bursted her bubble, zoning back into reality. "This ought to be good."
"I'm serious, Y/N," she began, what I think was, sincerely. "I'm in love with you still."
I stared at her, so fed up of feeling everything because of her. I didn't even know how to react – I knew I didn't love her, I stopped a long time ago. But I was so exhausted with dealing with what she put me through that my brain didn't know what to do as she was speaking.
"You remember the part where you cheated on me, right?" I asked, quirking a brow.
"You're not taking this seriously," she decided.
"You bet your arse I'm not taking this seriously," I agreed, narrowing my eyes. "You broke my heart, Anna. You went off and slept with another woman whilst we were together – you cheated. You made me feel like shit."
"I know that," she said regretfully. "I know. I was horrible! I didn't appreciate what I had, okay? You were always so nice and loving. You cared about me so much and it became suffocating, infuriating! I hated it, that we were so..."
"Perfect?" I filled in for her, feeling a lump forming in my throat.
"Exactly," she said, her eyes softening as they met mine. "You loved me too much and I hated it then, but I miss it now. I miss us. I'm here to ask you for another chance."
I pursed my lips, wondering how on earth she thought she could have me back after everything she'd done. And now knowing why she'd cheated in the first place, something I thought I never needed to know... I didn't want to admit it, but it fucking hurt.
"You just told me that my love, the way I treat the people I care about, is suffocating," I said, swallowing hard. "Why the hell would I want to be in a relationship with you? Aside from the fucking obvious?"
I pushed my stool out and stood up, grabbing my bag and hot chocolate.
"Y/N, no, wait–!"
"You know, I don't remember you being this much of an arsehole when we were together," I said, staring at her one last time before storming past her and out of Noonan's.
As I headed back to CatCo, I tried to understand what the hell just happened. I was over Anna – I'd worked so hard to get over her, and with Kara's help, I had. I was convinced that I didn't need to know why she cheated, I mean, why does anyone cheat? I didn't think there'd be a reason. But now, knowing that there was a reason, and it was because of me apparently, it hurt. That same pain I felt those few months ago after finding out she was cheating, returned, even if it was for a split second.
Was I really too much when with those I cared about? Did I care too much? Was I too kind? Too loving? I didn't think that was possible, but now... I shouldn't have believed anything Anna said, yet it was lingering in the back of my head and I couldn't get rid of it.
When I reached my desk, I sat down and tried to get on with some work, but my head was still elsewhere, processing what Anna had told me. She still loved me, okay, that didn't bother me as much. I didn't love her at all, not anymore, not after how she treated me. She cheated on me because I was too much for her, too 'perfect'... that one was still a horrible thought embedded in my mind now. I had ironically pushed her away because I cared too much about keeping her close.
I'd barely gotten any work done when I saw a message pop up on my computer screen. It was from Kara, who was probably sat at her desk on the other side of the room.
KARA: Hey, we still on for takeaway and a movie tonight at mine? I'll let you pick the food.. :D
I was about to respond with a 'yes', but then I thought about what Anna said. I hated that she was making me second guess my friendship with Kara, but if what she said was true, then the last thing I wanted to do was push Kara away because I was too clingy.
ME: I think I'm gonna be staying late tonight to finish some work off. Maybe next time?
Yeah, that would work. I just needed to hold off for a bit. Kara and I had been hanging out quite a bit lately, and after giving her that keyring we– god, that keyring! That was so stupid! That was clingy, for sure. If I kept this up, caring for her too much, she might end up like Anna – feeling suffocated and trapped. I needed to slow it down. Give Kara some space to have a life, too. She'd been there for me so much that I barely let her do her own thing. It surely must have been annoying for her. The last thing I wanted was her hanging out with me because of some obligation she felt she had.
KARA: oh, okay, that's fine! anything I can help with? I don't mind staying back with you
ME: I should be okay, thanks anyway
I saw she wrote something else, but I decided to leave it at that and get on with my work. I still felt my heart hurting a little, and I wasn't sure if it was because of what Anna said or because of my newfound fear of losing Kara at my own hand.

All stories have a beginning and all stories have an end.
But, how does one know where to start a story? And maybe, sometimes we don't want to know the end; since unfortunately, not all stories have a good finish. Perhaps we'd like to leave it unfinished and rewrite it in our minds, because all humans want a happy ending.
You're still reading so I guess you'd like to see for yourself how this story goes.
Have you ever heard the story of how the sun fell in love with the moon?
No?
Well, you're about to...
And I can't promise you that it's going to go the way you'd like.

3 yrs before the incident
One more chance. I'll give her one more chance, you thought as you grit your teeth, watching your once best friend in the lunch line chatting it up with the annoying girl from history class.
Your breath caught in your throat when your former bff Lena made eye contact with you from across the cafeteria after filling her lunch tray. A small smile went to find it's way onto your face when Lena's eye contact lingered, but it was gone in a matter of seconds when she just twitched an eyebrow and sauntered off to sit at a table across the room; the conversation between Lena and her new bestie continuing as if nothing had happened.
So it was true, she'd left you for someone else. Like you were worth nothing more to that girl than a tissue; use it once and throw it away. Not a very good comparison at the time, but that's all you could think of as you watched them sit down; you were worth no more than a small used tissue.
Figures...
Your hands started to twitch awkwardly not knowing what to do with themselves now and you stared at the lasagna on your lunch tray; if you could even call it that–all it was was a lump of overcooked noodles drenched in sauce the color of a burnt tomato with who knows what posing as the ground beef, covered in a crispy layer of cheese.
You definitely weren't hungry, but staring at the sad excuse for lunch in front of you and contemplating life as nothing more than a wisp of a tissue floating through the air, not knowing where it might end up–was better than watching Lena start a new chapter without you.
It didn't make sense, you were best friends...weren't you? Guess it didn't matter now, since a friendship takes two people to make it work, and seeing as one was currently occupied elsewhere, you would have to make do with what you had, which was...a depressed piece of lasagna staring at you from it's home on the untouched tray. You poked at it with your fork and looked at it-thinking. Then you whispered to the disheartening meal,
"Oh well...at least you're not gonna leave me for that annoying- what was her name? I don't even know, but who cares, right?"
Then you suddenly realized what you were doing and looked up quickly in embarrassment, afraid someone had seen you. But the regular drone of kids talking, shouting and laughing was the same as always. Of course no one had noticed, because you were invisible.
And you were talking to a piece of lasagna.
Highschool was great....
You were a senior this year, at seventeen. At least this was the last year of hell, then you could do whatever you wanted. You had a lot of things you wanted to do and places to travel to, maybe you couldn't do them all but you'd be damned if you didn't at least try.
But one thing was for sure, you couldn't just sit there and stare at that fake lasagna pretending like Lena wasn't betraying you right across the room. So you got up and brought your uneaten food to the window where kids leave their empty lunch trays and put your tray down, but kept the small carton of chocolate milk. Then headed out of the cafeteria to spend the rest of your lunchbreak in the library. You fiddled with the unopened milk carton and mumbled to yourself while you walked,
"It's fine, I don't need her anyway."
Just numb the pain.
That wasn't the first or the last time.

2 yrs before the incident
"Uhhh, ya know what little missy? I think if you give me twenty-five percent off everything, maybe we could come to a compromise?"
This man......was going to die in a minute if he kept going on like this.
You tried your hardest not to just scream at this pervert to leave and say you wouldn't do a damn thing for him. You just settled for licking your dry lips while he started to smirk at you. He brought his hand up to rest against the counter, then started to slowly tap his fingers. You made eye contact with him and said sternly, "I'm sorry sir, but I can't do that."
"What if I give you my phone number? And we'll make it fifteen percent..." He tried again, not once breaking eye contact with you.
"Excuse me sir-"
"Yes, doll?"
"Do you have a coupon?"
"No, I don't bu-"
"Then no, we can't move the price down at all, would you like to pay the full price or leave sir?" You stared him dead in the eyes, this creep, you thought angrily, how dare he call me that? I hope he just leaves, I don't care if he doesn't buy anything. The man leaned over the cash register, "hmm, this isn't very good customer service. Maybe I won't come back." Please don't, you thought, but instead of saying that you settled for, "it's not about customer service, this is store policy, I'm sorry sir but I can't do anything."
"Ya know what? I like it when you call me sir- you say that a lot to me....what's a pretty little lady like you doing working in a rundown grocery store, hm? What about college? You're what, eighteen? If you'd like, I can give you my number and you won't have to worry about this job, I'll take care of you." He smirked and arched an eyebrow at you from the other side of the counter.
It was probably a good thing there was a big cash register between the two of you, since you weren't sure what would've happened if you had free range. By now your brain was just blurry and you saw nothing but blackness because of the fury settling inside. What a disgusting man. You didn't care if you got fired, you were gonna teach him a lesson or two about trying to get young girls to do stuff for him in exchange for money. You leaned forward which made him lean back in surprise, then you said loud enough for the other people in line to hear,
"If you do not pay the full price right here right now, then leave. If you think I'm looking for a sugar daddy then you are sadly mistaken. You have enough money to pay for a girl's life in exchange for your own personal services, so you have enough to pay the full thirty five dollars. There are people waiting behind you so make up your mind now, sir." You said the last word mockingly and raised an eyebrow at him in defiance. The man's eyes grew in shock, then he glared at you but he didn't say a word as he threw forty bucks in your direction, grabbed his bags and stomped out of the store.
You took a deep breath and smiled at the next customer who cautiously came forward with their items.
-
The second you stepped through the door after working a twelve hour shift you slumped against the wall and yanked your sneakers off; dropping them to the floor carelessly. The apartment was dark so you assumed your mom wasn't home- probably out drinking away her troubles again. Walking into the kitchen, you sighed at the sink full of dirty dishes, and the counters that were no better. The smell wasn't too bad, probably because your nose was used to it by now. You walked to a cupboard and rummaged around until you found a sleeve of saltine crackers. After that you grabbed the softened butter and a knife and walked to your room; stepping over and around the miscellaneous junk spread throughout the apartment.
After about an hour of sitting on your bed, scrolling through your phone and munching on what your dinner was that night, you heard the door open and what you could only assume was your mother stumble inside. Your mother's heels clacked against the hard floor by the door, then a heavier pair of footsteps could be heard with them. You sighed deeply, but stayed as quiet as you could. Not again, you thought miserably. Just, please just go do whatever you're gonna do and leave me alone, you prayed silently squeezing your eyes shut.
There was a lot of stumbling and cursing and your chest was tight with anxiety, scared that at any moment they would drunkenly come into your room by accident. Eventually, your mother's bedroom door slammed shut and you let out the breath you had been holding. Thank you God, thank you, you clasped your hands and shook them, then carefully and as quietly as you could, you set the remaining crackers and butter on your nightstand. Then you shifted in bed to lie on your left side and tried to make sure the bed didn't creak at your movements– cringing a little when it squeaked a bit. It was gonna be alright, he–whoever he was, didn't know you were in the house.
You closed your eyes and tried to ignore the lingering feeling on your skin, even though it had been over a year since the last time. You stuffed your hands over your ears, willing yourself to sleep despite whatever was going on on the other side of the wall.
-
Morning came all too soon, and with it a massive pounding headache from the lack of sleep. You groaned when the sun hit your eyes and made the darkness an annoying shade of orangey red from behind your eyelids, your brain in a fog from the tiny bit of sleep you were able to get even though it was plagued by nightmares. Then you suddenly snapped awake and shot up in bed, grabbing your chest and feeling all around yourself frantically, breathing a sigh of relief when you felt your shirt still on your body. You were okay, it was just another nightmare. You tried to steady your breathing while taking deep breaths in and blowing them out slowly. Then you looked towards the door and cupped a hand by your ear; listening intently. After a minute or two of silence that didn't really prove anything, you sighed and swung your legs out of bed- planting your feet on the floor despite laundry being scattered everywhere. Sneaking towards the door you put an ear to it then slowly turned the knob. Normally you wouldn't even be risking going out of the safety of your room but you really had to pee, you would just have to be quick.
You scurried quietly to the bathroom and when you were finished you were on your way back when your mom's door swung open. You flinched and wrung your hands keeping your eyes downcast, too afraid to look up. But then you sighed in relief when it was only your mother that pushed past you to go to the bathroom. You decided to risk it and peeked into your mom's bedroom. A weight lifted off your chest at the sight of the empty bed–he must have left earlier.
-
"Aren't you supposed to be working or something? Why're you just sitting around reading?" Your mother scoffed at you from the doorway, after slamming your bedroom door open to confront you.
You set your book down–not ready for another fight, "they gave me today off, I'm back on the schedule tomorrow." Your mother just glared at you and crossed her arms, "oh, so you think we can afford to have you lying around, taking days off? Lazy ass." With that she turned and slammed the door shut, leaving you to sit there and scold your heart to stop hurting, because it just wasn't worth it.
You don't need her Y/n...
Just numb the pain.
So that's what you did.

1 1/2 yrs before the incident
You walked into the apartment after three classes in a row; each one being about two hours long. You dropped your backpack by the door with a thud then changed your mind and picked it up again, not wanting another fight when someone tripped over it in their drunken state. You decided just putting it in your room would be best.
Canned vegetables with canned chicken really wasn't too bad if one could figure out the right stuff to put in it. After years of this, you had discovered your favorite seasonings and you were mixing yourself up a nice concoction for lunch before going to work, humming and talking to yourself as you did so–when there was loud pounding on the front door.
You weren't very alarmed, knowing exactly who it was, and so you opened the door and stepped aside as your mother staggered in, thankfully alone. Turning to look at you, your mother's eyes were a bit glassy as she spoke, "is there any food around here or do I have to do all the work for that too?" She wasn't drunk, but she wasn't too far away from it. You didn't say anything and just walked to the kitchen, took your lunch and handed it to your mother.
"I just made this for you, thought you'd be home soon."
Your mom just snatched it away and walked to her room calling over her shoulder, "almost nineteen years old and all you can do is make a half-assed meal for the woman that gave up everything for your lazy ass."
You just grabbed your bag and put your shoes on, trying to ignore the insistent hunger pangs in your stomach, then walked out the door for work.
-
"Y/n? May I speak with you please?" It was the next day and you were just leaving the history classroom when your professor called you over. Your grades were far from satisfactory, but you really did try. You walked over to Professor Kim's (who also happened to teach your Korean class as well) desk and tried not to hang your head, since you knew what was coming. She was a nice lady, but could also be strict at times.
"Y/n, I'm going to get straight to the point. I heard that you wanted to travel to South Korea. We both know you're struggling a bit in the academic department, but I know you're a good girl, and you speak Korean pretty well."
You looked up, utterly confused, this wasn't about you almost failing history class? Professor Kim just smiled and continued, "there is a scholarship program to go and stay in Seoul for a year, learning Korean and going to the university there. I thought you might be interested in it."
You were so shocked you couldn't speak for a full minute, just stuttering out nonsense until Professor Kim laughed and put her hand on your shoulder. Then she handed you a packet, telling you to fill it out and give it back to her as soon as possible.
This couldn't be happening. Good things didn't happen to you. Could this actually be your escape?
You thanked Professor Kim over and over then scurried out of the room before anything else could be said and possibly destroy this amazing opportunity. As you left there was a new lift to your step.
-
Two weeks had passed and no word from the scholarship people. You turned nineteen in those two weeks, but that didn't mean much to you. All you could think about was the scholarship. Things at home didn't change, they never did. Until one day when you were heading home from work, completely exhausted, and you saw the mailman at the front door knocking. You ran up the steps but your mother opened the door right when you got there. You said hello to the man and took the mail from him, being our to thank him. When you turned to go inside, your mother snatched all the mail from you and stalked off. You followed her cautiously, "uh, may I see that? I think I might have gotten something." Your mother turned and glared at you then spat, "and what could you have gotten in the mail? You don't even have friends, and the bills are in my name." You tried not to roll your eyes, even though the bills were in your mother's name, she wasn't the one paying them.
Scanning through the envelopes, your mother stopped when she saw one with the name Y/n Y/l/n on the front. She turned and looked at you accusingly, "what is this?" Before you had time to even process what you were doing you snatched the envelope out of her hands and dashed around her, running to your room. You shut the door and locked it, hearing the woman outside screaming horrible accusations and threats at you but not caring a single bit. The envelope was white–super white actually, almost looking unnatural. Your fingers shook as you gently tore it open, running a finger carefully along the top so you could pull the letter out. The paper inside was just as bright, and the bold black lettering stood out.
Tumblr media
Your breathing hitched, was this actually happening? A second scan over the letter and a quick yet painful pinch to the arm confirmed that, yes, this was actually happening. Your hands trembled as you slowly pulled your phone out of your pocket and carefully typed in the number printed on the paper. The sounds of your mother screaming outside the door and hitting it, the cars outside, your own heart pounding in your ears- it all faded away to a dull thudding when you heared the ringing through the phone, once, twice, you held your breath, three rings in, four......click
"Hello? This is Jill Dunning, how can I help you?"
"H-hello? I- I was told to call you."
"Are you Y/n Y/l/n, by any chance?"
You cleared your throat nervously, then took a deep breath before answering.
"Yes, I am."
-
1 month later
The flight there was extremely long and tiring so by the time you were getting off; you could’ve cried tears of joy, having felt like the plane ride really was going to last forever and you’d never step on solid ground again. But there you were; standing in the middle of the Seoul airport, completely and utterly free.
Not to mention, completely and utterly lost.
You looked around but couldn’t see anything other than a lot of people rushing around; businessmen and women, families with little children that stared at you with wide eyes, college students; and yet not a single soul that looked like they might help you find who you were looking for. You shifted your heavy backpack and decided to walk a bit, maybe you could find where the luggage came through and you could at least collect the rest of your bags. After you walked for another minute you saw a sign with a suitcase on it, hanging from the ceiling with an arrow pointing down. You hurried over to where it was pointing and saw a giant metal thing with suitcases going around on it, people looking at tags and grabbing them before hurrying off again.
You walked over briskly and just in time too, because your two suitcases had just come around the bend in the giant machine. You double checked the tags and after confirming they were yours, you heaved them off the machine and caught your breath after setting them next to you. Then you had to figure out where you were and where your roommate, who was to be picking you up, was. You went to the name of your roommate in your contacts and pressed it before you held your phone to your ear. After one ring, the sweet voice of your roommate answered in Korean.
“Hello? Y/n?”
“Hey Eui, I just got here and I’m so lost. I just got my bags.”
“I’m so sorry Y/n! I’ll be there in less than five minutes. Traffic was awful, but I’m walking into the airport now. Just stay by the baggage area, ok?”
”Ok, thanks Eui.”
You had talked to her on the phone many times over the past four weeks and you really liked her, you couldn’t wait to meet in person. You hung up and looked around, watching everyone else go about their days; rushing to catch flights, leisurely browsing the shops in the airport, then you heard an excited squeal and turned to see a girl running and jumping into the arms of a boy who you assumed was her boyfriend. You just smiled and kept looking around- trying not to think about how badly you wished that was you.
“Y/n?”
You turned at the sound of Eui’s voice and smiled widely when she approached you with open arms. Eui wrapped her arms around you and then pulled away, still smiling, “welcome to Seoul, are you ready to start over?” That had to be the best sentence you ever heard in your life. You smiled back at her and grabbed one of your suitcases while Eui grabbed the other one.
“Definitely.”
And you were; a new place, a new school, a friendly face, and no people from your past. It was time to start over and let things go, because life just got a whole lot easier.
You had no idea that whether you liked it or not, your past would continue to haunt you, no matter how many miles away you ran.
“Let’s go.”
