everyone who doesn't include the full quote when mocking GRRM's "what was Aragorn's tax policy" rhetorical question owes me $200

#we as a society need to move past this 'lotr is above criticism' mindset #'grrm totally missed the point of lotr!!' no YOU missed the point of that quote and also asoiaf #how does no one include the 'what did they do with the rest of the orcs? did they kill the little baby ones too?' part?#the point isn't dismissive of tolkien it's critical of modern fantasy's tendency to avoid these questions #and opt instead for a black and white conflict that doesn't examine the humanity on either side #grrm has gone on about how he admires tolkien. taking a quote that expresses his desire for fantasy to expand and explore #and claiming it's some sort of faux intellectualism just because it makes you uncomfortable #is incredibly small minded and harmful actually and I'm sick of pretending it's not #asoiaf

I’ll never quite understand the discourse around whether or not Tweek is a part of Craig’s group

He may not appear as frequently as the other members but he still is pretty consistently associated with them, and has been even before he and Craig started dating

Even South Park studios lists him as a part of the group

Forget about Celegorm hair colour discourse, my controversial take (in the sense of going against the main depiction found in fandom) is that Maglor and Curufin are brunettes (as is the Noldorin standard*).

Maglor is the only son of Fëanor without any kind of physical description whatsoever, implying he doesn't deviate from the norm in that regard, and Curufin is only ever said to resemble Feanor "very much in face" (HoME XII), i.e. sharing his fathers facial features, but is never noted for black hair the way Finwë ("he had black hair", HoME XII), Fëanor ("his hair raven-dark", The Silmarillion VI) and Caranthir ("he was black-haired as his grandfather", HoME XII) are.

The same also goes for Fingolfin and his children.

*I take dark brown (at most) as the "default", since every instance of black hair is specifically mentioned, similar to the other deviations from the norm such as Mahtan, Maedhros and the Ambarussa, or Míriel, or the Arafinwëans. So I find reading a simple "dark" (or lack of any description to the contrary, regarding Noldor) as "brown" the most plausible.

My husband and I just watched all the extended editions of the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings movies. We were discussing how excited we were to read the Hobbit to our future kids, and I mentioned how I wanted to add Tauriel to the story even if she isn't in the books maybe even genderswap a dwarf or two just to add more women into the story. This poll sprang from the philosophical debate that that started. I am gonna do what I want but mostly I wanted to see if anyone else would do something similar.

I love that one South Park episode were they are ripping off IT bc Tweek and Craig are literally reddie😭😭😭

They have scenes like Tweek being on his bike seeing the president just like Eddie seeing Pennywise and then the whole gang shows up and talks about them all seeing the president EXCEPT CRAIG just like Richie.

Stan and Kyle are also stenbrough, Heidi and Eric Beverly and Ben and Tolkien as Mike😭😭😭

It’s so cute I love it. Someone needs to write a proper fic about them fighting pennywise it would be hilarious.

WELL since I'm doing great mentally the last few months years, what I have in common with Frodo is the despair and general lack of hope in the face of an insurmountable task. I too am faced with a task I consider impossible rn and I too feel pretty hopeless and burdened by various mental and physical health issues which interfere with that task and I too am away from home and way out of my confort zone and continuously feel small and helpless which is sth Frodo feels constantly throughout the story. I think that sense of despair and hopelessness is central to Frodo's character and also to lotr themes and it is not talked about enough imo, and it is precisely that element that makes his heroism and resilience and discipline so meaningful and impactful. And since I am trying to find that determination and discipline myself, Frodo's journey is particularly inspiring to me! I love him to death.
