the pathologic Kin is largely fictionalized with a created language that takes from multiple sources to be its own, a cosmogony & spirituality that does not correlate to the faiths (mostly Tengrist & Buddhist) practiced by the peoples it takes inspirations from, has customs, mores and roles invented for the purposes of the game, and even just a style of dress that does not resemble any of these peoples', but it is fascinating looking into specifically to me the sigils and see where they come from... watch this:
P2 Layers glyphs take from the mongolian script:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
while the in-game words for Blood, Bones and Nerves are mongolian directly, it is interesting to note that their glyphs do not have a phonetic affiliation to the words (ex. the "Yas" layer of Bones having for glyph the equivalent of the letter F, the "Medrel" layer of Nerves having a glyph the equivalent of the letter È,...)
the leatherworks on the Kayura models', with their uses of angles and extending lines, remind me of the Phags Pa Script (used for Tibetan, Mongolian, Chineses, Uyghur language, and others)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some of the sigils also look either in part or fully inspired by Phags Pa script letters...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some look closer to the mongolian or vagindra (buryat) script
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
looking at the Herb Brides & their concept art, we can see bodypainting that looks like vertical buryat or mongolian script (oh hi (crossed out: Mark) Phags Pa script):

shaped and reshaped...

@feanorianweek Day 2: Maglor (plus one!)
Back then, Maglor was deeply frustrated about how easily his aunt Lalwendë seemed to play the clavichord
Nowadays Maglor is a master of this instrument plus several others, and looks at those old sessions with some bittersweet fondness.

Every once in a while I get asked about whether particular pairings are problematic, or if it’s allowed to like/dislike a specific pairing, and ultimately I think my advice is the same no matter what pairing it is: you have to make your own decisions for whether you like it or not instead of leaving it up to the discretions of others.
And this seems obvious! You would think that it goes without saying that you should base your opinion on your own taste and boundaries! But the saddest part is that it doesn’t— ive seen people who are obviously interested in a pairing defer to the “popular” opinion that it’s the worst ship under the sun, solely because they don’t want to be judged for it. Alternatively, I’ve also seen people claim that you’re not allowed to be uncomfortable with any aspect of a particular ship, and bend over backwards to pretend that there’s nothing unhealthy about it at all, when it’s perfectly reasonable for people to have different opinions on the subject. Ultimately, this rhetoric leaves people unable to form and enforce their own boundaries, and it’s kind of sad to see?
Like, I have plenty of pairings that I’m personally not a fan of, but I’m never going to pretend that my personal discomfort means that other people aren’t allowed to enjoy them, yk? I just keyword mute the terms and move on with my life.
Similarly, I also have pairings that I enjoy that I know have aspects that can make others uncomfortable! And I’m not going to push those onto people that I know might not like them, since I can respect that we have different tastes.
It makes me rather worried that fandom has gotten to the point where people aren’t encouraged to make their own decisions on what they can handle, but instead have to defer to the majority opinion… it’s isolating, isn’t it? To only allow yourself to be surrounded by those who share the exact same opinions on every pairing as you? How will you ever grow if you can’t handle differing opinions from your friends? I know it’s difficult, but it’s a journey everyone has to take eventually until they win the idgaf war

PLEASE tell us your barbie opinions!!!!! pls pls i also have opinions
happy 2 share but i will be putting it under a cut bc. a lot of people seem 2 think this movie is god's gift 2 earth and i am not in the mood 2 deal w barbie evangelists lol so if u do not want 2 see barbie movie criticism just scroll away
will preface by saying i enjoyed the movie i thought it was fun etc + i don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying it or finding it fun or even feeling very personally empowered/seen by what the movie had to say. that's all very nice on a personal level and i understand why so many people are finding the movie cathartic.
that being said i do not think the movie was feminist or subversive by a long shot and seeing so many people talk about how radical it was makes me feel like i'm being gaslit!!! like. did we watch different movies lmao. maybe i'd understand a little more why everyone was being taken in if barbie had like, gone to the real world and fought patriarchy in the movie--but she didn't even do that! they introduce the concept of real-world patriarchy only to have barbie go back to barbieland and destroy fake barbie patriarchy (which is rooted simply in one man's insecurity and easily resolved by gently encouraging him to seek self-worth outside his relationship--not exactly a cutting examination of the material investment that men have in patriarchy which makes it so difficult to challenge) and leave real-world patriarchy intact at the end (the big #feminist moment for real women is...mattel's sexist ceo saying he'll use a woman's idea for the next barbie, since he can make a lot of money off it? he doesn't even say he's going to pay her for the idea lmao).
so all in all the whole "barbie destroys patriarchy" bit of the movie just. did not feel particularly feminist to me beyond a very surface level acknowledgment that sexism exists and is bad. and like--i get that it's the barbie movie, and people could say "well of course it can't be that subversive but it did a good job for what it was!!" but i'm just like. ok yeah then let's call it what it was...instead of calling it subversive?? also every feminist message the movie tried to champion was immediately undermined by its fundamental investment in gender essentialism, which remains unchallenged throughout the whole film. like--barbies are literally canonically sexless and so u can't even try to argue that the gender binary which their society is based around is anything but 100% socially constructed, and we see that that gender binary affords privilege to some and not to others and also leads to ostracization of those who fail to conform to it, yet the happy ending of the movie is barbieland just...staying that way. and i feel like the movie then kinda says the quiet part out loud when barbie becomes a "real woman" by getting a vagina like...ok. lol
so like. even the interior politics of the film i struggle to understand how it could be considered groundbreaking feminism; and then when we zoom out and look at the material impact of the movie that just cements it as un-feminist to me. this is a really good article about the beauty standards being pushed + perpetuated by barbie marketing, and of course as with basically any hollywood movie the rich (and mostly rich men) will be getting richer, cycles of consumerism will be perpetuated, etc. honestly the "feminist" aspect of the film almost feels insidious to me in this context, as if it's meant to provide the catharsis of feeling like there's been some big challenge to patriarchy while quietly reinforcing the systems of oppression it publicly decries.
and like. at the end of the day i was not expecting barbie to be a subversive feminist film nor do i think it like...has a responsibility to be one. and it's nice that so many people feel like they're getting something out of it! but i think it's important to evaluate both the personal and societal impact of the media we're critiquing, and in that context it just seems silly to me to claim that barbie is subversive. i also find the amount of rhetoric i've seen about how the movie "encapsulates the female experience" so fucking irritating lmfao like...i am sorry but the idea that watching a group of hyperfeminine women flirt with men as a method of destroying patriarchy (<- not an exaggeration that is literally the plot. flirt with each other's boyfriends to make them jealous so they fight each other. zero lesbians in barbieland i suppose) is THE quintessential experience of #womanhood...well alright then.
anyway. there is more i could say but i am going 2 get dinner w a friend so. stopping here <3 not gonna post the link but i do have a full/in-depth review on my substack if u wanna poke around over there!

Back to the grind tomorrow and lemme tell you what, while I do really enjoy tumblr I sure did like not having to be Online all the time during our break.. And I've been thinking that the amount I'm Online and Available will probably be much lower this year compared to the past. So if I'm not responding to asks as fast or posting as much or w/e, that's why! Thanks for understanding 🙏

I honestly get a little annoyed that people will act like Penelope wouldn't be in the Fields of Punishment alongside Odysseus :P
Because she'd either go with him or literally be there because of her own things. I mean...She's not that nice either. They're literally "likeminded", all the war crimes he would tell her, she'd be thinking "Oh!!! Good thinking!!!" The only thing is, she just didn't GET to do those war crimes because she wasn't in the war. She would scold him for the stupid things he did acting like she's never done the same or wouldn't do the same.
Also as if she wouldn't also tell Polyphemus her name? Maybe not exactly, but she'd do something JUST as prideful/dumb eventually. BECAUSE THEY'RE SIMILAR. SAME MIND!!!

I love the Hannibal fandom and I am a Hannigram shipper, but I hate it when people intentionally or unintentionally demonise/mischaracterise the other characters to make Hannigram look better
Like yeah, nearly all characters have done shitty things but most of them aren’t inherently bad people. Just people struggling and not knowing how to deal with it because the situation is complex and/or they’re being manipulated in some way
Hannibal is inherently a more horrible person that the rest of the main cast and that’s fine! You don’t need to make them worse! His morals are fucked and that’s what makes him and Hannigram interesting!
Sorry for the rant, I’m tired and just needed to get this out
Edit: I’ll probably make a longer rant about this in the future, cuz there’s a lot of other shit I want to say
Edit 2: Also if you know any Hannigram fics where the characters aren’t demonised or mischaracterised pls tell me

Seeing people argue over shipping a aroace character is somewhat annoying to me. I'm aroace as well and I do not care if someone wants to ship a aroace character unless they're outright erasing, denying, and/or mocking the characters aroace identity. I probably mostly feel like this because I've been active in online fandom spaces since 2013 and I've seen these arguments on here over and over (ESPECIALLY back in 2014, that was the worst time to be on tumblr) to the point where I'm tired of it and want to enjoy the character in peace. Every aroace person has different opinions on this topic and that's fine. I feel like the only people that shouldn't be talking are allos, y'all don't experience what we experience so you can't speak on it.

i may have a very complicated relationship with my mother, but the thing is, one part of it i would never change is the fact that she introduced me to some great (and often times not so great for my taste, but still fun and interesting) music.
most important of it all: this woman taught me how to scream queen from the top of my lungs.
i think this in particular says a lot.
like, i was a ten-year-old, just a year into learning english, and i already recognised the first note of i want to break free. i went camping every summer from when i was 12 to when i was 16, and i introduced the kids in the same dorm as me to the euphoria of clapping to the rythm of we will rock you. i danced in the darkness of my room to radio ga-ga during quarantine, because i was scared and confused and ate toast for dinner for two weeks straight since there was nothing else there. i hummed bohemian rhapsody while studying during what i then thought of as the most academically challenging year of my life to keep myself sane in front of calculus. i fell in love for the first time the same year, and i thought of her while listening to good old fashioned lover boy and you're my best friend, because i wasn't able to tell her, so i kept her close to me that way. i went to study in another, unknown city, to live on my own for the very first time, and, inter alia, i put on killer queen, innuendo and don't stop me now, and even i'm in love with my car, to feel like home, a place i never had, because...
i may have a very complicated relationship with my mother, but sometimes my heart thinks that the music we both love will bridge the gap between us. that queen will magically make her arms feel like home, and not somewhere hard and suffocating to be inside of.

🧡💚💕 for the ask meme!
Gonna do it for Xillia
🧡: What is a popular (serious) theory you disagree with?
That Gaius was planning to destroy Elympios. He wanted to destroy their spyrixes, not the whole country. Idk who decided to spread this misinterpretation as fact but seeing it repeated on wikis or tvtropes drives me up the wall.
💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?
See above (tho idk if that counts as 'everyone' lol). But speaking of Gaius, I can't stand ship stuff where he's portrayed as (genuinely, not like as part of play) super dominant/pushy/rapey. Like yeah he's pretty intimidating and looks like he'd be the type if you only have a very surface view of him, but considering his history I can't see him not being really careful about the power dynamic. Plus come on, he's a big softie deep down (one good thing of X2's portrayal of him is showing more of that side of him). Tho again idk if that counts as 'everyone', just that I've seen it often enough to dislike it...
💕: What is an unpopular ship that you like?
Gaiwin, tho it's not popular due to small number of ppl actually interested it rather than people disliking it.
For the latter, Jumilla. Like I can get preferring other ships and stuff, but the amount of vitriol it sometimes gets when it's such a well-balanced, mutually respectful and caring couple is sad to see. It's also not much of a threat to other ships considering the ending (on top of being rather low-key on the actual canon romance stuff aside from a few scenes here and there), so I don't get the need to put it down to prop other ships up :/

rey nobody is okay in theory, esp when not taking it too literally. but i’ve always seen it as somewhat of a negative thing, or an insult. rey has always been a somebody. just because her parents weren’t as well known as the skywalkers or someone similar doesn’t mean they’re nobody. they’re important people and have always been somebodies, even without the added lore and even if they’re related to obi-wan or satine. and in star wars, everyone is important and can have an impact on the galaxy (as shown in r1 which was a movie about “nobodies”).
noun: nobody;
a person of no importance or authority.

Might be a bit toxic but i really can't help but rant about official human Peter
The way the creator couldn't even keep his nose consistent??? Flat on the front but has a bridge on profile??? Like No wonder they are stick figures she can't draw facial features
NOT TOXIC, if you're upset about a character's design, you should be able to speak about it. like Peter's human design? I hate it with a passion lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's just so much I hate about it. the proportions make him look short, which is fine (coming from a short guy) but he's supposed to be around 6'2 I think, why is he stubby??
his huge hands doesn't fit the style too much, just makes him look weird
his nose isn't the worst thing about the design (IMO) but I do hate it a lot.
ALSO, he's supposed to be cute, literally him being a fucking grey ball looks better than whatever that is
the creator just can't draw humans, which is completely fine, I just think it doesn't suit his character

Would you say you've ever rewritten plot? Or have you always known how you wanted the story to go?
I've rewritten the plot so many times BSDBFBSDFB. Originally the plan was that everyone was gonna die but I didn't know how , and then months later I had a dream about a giant Uxie by a stone wall, the seas stretching behind them, and their eyes were pure black... I designed the Mythics based off of it.
A lot of key points I had planned since around then but things have been tweaked a lot over time, and a lot of things were improvised. I think the askblog format sort of encourages improvising, there's a lot of unpredictable asks/interactions, and for some blogs they'll do things comboed with other blogs that weren't planned for initially (like the thing with Deva wasn't planned for right away).
imo, I think making shit up as you go between key points is fine and fun. Do what you want, shitton of super popular anime are defiNITELY made up as they went. Entertainment is entertainment, like sure strive to do your best, but long as you have fun yanno?

what's the meaning when talay asked "are you asking me or yourself" in sunset orange
hello, anon!!!!
OKAY SO. to understand that particular line, we first need to understand what’s going on in puen’s and talay’s head in that particular moment. basically by episode 7, these two fools are pining after each other, but they’re both convinced that the other doesn’t feel the same way
puen has been flirting with talay non-stop since the very beginning and just upped his game after realizing he fell in love with talay at the beginning of episode 4, but he’s having a hard time understanding talay’s feelings: talay says stuff like “whatever happens, i’ll go through it with you” and “do you have any idea how long 12.960 minutes i waited for you felt like?” and “what i fear the most is that it [dying] happens to someone i care about. especially you”, but then he goes and pushes puen towards pang, refusing the idea of the two of them being portkeys. it feels like a rejection, but he’s not sure, because there are just too many mixed signals. even later, when it’s just the two of them around the fire and they’re having a Moment and talay closes his eyes, waiting to be kissed, puen is still NOT SURE, but he NEEDS to be, he NEEDS to have that final confirmation from talay, because the last time he was too forward (still in episode 4) he messed everything up and almost ruined their friendship, and so he asks talay: “this time, i can kiss you, can’t i?” except talay reads that in the wrong way
talay has been very confused about his own feelings for puen, and only between episode 6 and episode 7 he finally comes to realize that he has fallen in love with him. however, despite all of puen’s flirting, talay is pretty much convinced that puen does not feel the same, for a lot of different reasons: 1) he thinks portkeys = soulmates = meant to be together, and since he no longer believes he and puen are portkeys (“if you were, we’d be back by now”), he doesn’t think his feelings are reciprocated; 2) when he pushes puen towards pang, puen goes; 3) from talay’s point of view, puen flirting with him in episode 4 was just puen messing with him. even after clearing up their misunderstanding, every time puen flirts with him talay believes puen is just teasing him, but part of him is also (understandably) confused. when talay closes his eyes around the camp fire, waiting for puen to kiss him, in talay’s head that turns out to be a sort of test. it’s like he’s thinking ‘if he kisses me, then he’s actually serious’, because if he were, why wouldn’t puen take that chance, when talay is basically offering himself to him? well, we know why puen wouldn’t, but talay obviously doesn’t. so when puen not only does not kiss him, but also asks him that question, talay reads that as a rejection. when he says “are you asking me or yourself (if you can kiss me)”, it’s like he’s saying “are you asking me because you don’t know how i feel (even if i was just here with my eyes closed literally waiting for you to kiss me), or are you asking yourself because you don’t actually feel the same as me?”, and then he doesn’t wait for an answer because he thinks he already knows it (which is why the end of episode 7 is so important, because that's talay realizing that yeah, puen actually feels the same)
SO YEAH BASICALLY THEY'RE BOTH IDIOTS (AFFECTIONATE)
