I feel like I as an author need to know my place in The Fandom Ecosystem and that's as the b-team. Fics u read while waiting for JanetBaby99 or Thethirdmanthethird or Selvish to post.

AITA for bitching about fics I dislike on my blog?
as a foreword, this is kind of a non-issue and no one's ever told me to stop, but I'm curious what other people think of fandom etiquette.
the fandom: a fairly small one. 2.4k fics on ao3 small. I recognize most people posting in its tumblr tag small. if I tell you the name of the source you'd almost definitely be able to find me small.
the source: pornographic, which means everyone involved is or should be an adult. it's BL with a switch MC, but the fandom overwhelmingly prefers bottom MC/top LIs (love interests), to the point where I've had people be astonishingly rude to me because my favorite character is a bottom LI and some of my friends have been outright harassed for the same. I used to not care about sex positions in the slightest, but now when I see bottom MC fanworks I can't help but remember how poorly I was treated.
the fics: wildly and inexplicably popular, even though they are, frankly, poorly written. it's eternal bottom MC turned up to 11, complete with copious amounts of OOCness in order to turn every ship into the worst ye olde yaoi gender roles dynamic you can imagine. it's things like MC, canonically a 23yo plank of a dudeguy, being written as a big titted milf in his 40s (which is made more confusing by the fact that one of the LIs is already a big titted milf). it's also things like the MC being written as disliking sex and having to be coerced into it when one of the most charming things about him is that he's a hilarious sex pest, or writing the LIs sexually harassing the MC when they really would never do that. I've likened it to replacing the characters with OCs that share the same name and my friends have agreed with me. I'm honestly convinced that the author and his readers don't actually like any of the characters if they feel the need to change everyone so thoroughly.
why I might be an asshole: it's assholish to hate on free fanworks, and I've bitched about these fics on my public tumblr blog. the fandom is small enough that there's a non-zero chance of it getting back to the author and a reasonable chance that fans of the fics have seen my bitching. I'm probably projecting the hostility I've received onto someone who's done absolutely nothing to me, and I am absolutely just straight up jealous that their fics get better stats than mine. I may also be being an asshole to myself, because being critical of other people's fics has made my hypercritical of my own.
why I don't think I'm an asshole: I think everyone has the right to be bad at things, but I also think everyone has the right to be a little hater. I don't put the fandom tag on these posts; they stay on my blog and my blog alone, and if later on I feel like I was unfairly vitriolic I'll delete the posts. I only post on tumblr because I'm certain the author in question only uses twitter, which dramatically lowers the odds of him stumbling across my posts. the fics are so popular that it's definitely possible that their fans would see my posts, but I think it's unlikely that they'd bother looking at my blog because 99% of my posts are about one of the bottom LIs. I have never and would never leave comments on the fics themselves, and I generally try to keep the bitchy posts to a minimum; it's far from a constant thing.
tl;dr - I publicly bitch about fics that (in my opinion) are poorly written and extremely OOC, under the assumption that it's unlikely the author would ever see it. AITA?
What are these acronyms?

Tumblr media
"You've got this, Y/N," Mia whispered, her face hovering close to yours, voice barely loud enough to hear over the music blaring through her home. "Just...focus."
"I'm trying," you said, your arm raised, a ping pong ball gripped between your forefinger and thumb. "But someone is breathing over my shoulder."
"Oh." She took a step back. "Is that better?"
"Much." You closed one eye, aimed at the last red solo cup on the opposite end of the table, and took your shot. The ball soared through the air, and you swore that time stopped for a moment. Both you and Mia froze as the ball circled the rim of the cup once, twice, before finally dropping in and declaring you guys the winners.
Mia threw her arms around your shoulders in a tight hug. "Let's go!" she squealed,
You flipped off your opponents. "Suck it, bitches!"
"Oh, real classy!" Nick scoffed, taking a sip of his drink. He reached into the cup, pulled out the ball, and threw it at you. It lamely brushed against your side before falling to the ground, rolling off somewhere.
"I declare a rematch!" Vada yelled. "A rematch is being declared!"
Mia pulled away from you. "Nuh-uh! You guys lost fair and square." She pointed down to the cups that were still on the table--the almost full triangle that Nick and Vada had been unable to get rid of. "It's not our fault you guys suck!"
"Yeah! Losers!" you shouted, joining in on the teasing. "Maybe you guys should actually try to be good at the game. That might help."
Vada frowned, her eyebrows furrowing a little, and you wanted to kiss away the wrinkle that formed between them. "You guys are sore winners."
You grinned, crossing the length of the table to take her in your arms. "Aw, don't be so upset, baby," you cooed, pressing a kiss to the tip of her nose. "S'not our faults you're bad at pong."
She groaned. "I think you cheated. There's literally no other explanation, because Nick and I are beasts at pong. We are the unbeatable pair. We never lose, so you must have cheated. Maybe you rigged the ball, or maybe--"
"Or maybe I'm just good at this game?" you interrupted, raising an eyebrow.
"No, no. That can't be it."
You giggled, pulling back from your girlfriend. She didn't let you get far, her own arms snaking around your waist and tugging you back toward her.
"Thought you wanted a rematch?"
Vada shrugged. "That can wait," she said shortly, her eyes flitting down to your lips. She leaned up and kissed you, deep enough that you could taste the vodka on her breath. You hummed against her, a thought sparking in your alcohol-hazed mind.
"I need another drink," you murmured when she pulled away. When she frowned, you asked, "Do you want to come with me?"
"The kitchen is so far, though," she whined, stomping her feet a little like a child, and you chuckled, glancing behind you; the two of you were, maybe, ten steps away from where all of the liquor was.
"Ever the drama queen, Vads," you said. You untangled yourself from her, taking one of her hands loosely in your fingers. "But I need a drink."
She grumbled in defeat but nodded her head. "I'll wait here 'til you return from your journey."
You shook her head, a soft smile on your lips. "I'll be two minutes." You kissed her again and ventured off to the kitchen, your eyes trained on the tequila that Mia had generously bought for the party.
You grabbed a new cup, poured a healthy amount of tequila into it, and topped it off with the nearest mixer you could find--fruit punch. It was a strange combination, but you decided that it wasn't entirely unwelcome when you tasted the drink.
Spinning on your heel, your mind was fully set on finding Vada again and maybe pulling her into the living room, where all of the furniture had been pushed against the walls to create a dance floor. However, you barely got a step in before you immediately collided with another person, your drink spilling down your front.
"Oh, shit!" the person cursed. "Sorry, dude."
You glanced up, catching sight of Kayden, the self-anointed stoner of your grade and...your ex-boyfriend. He was grinning down at you, pearly-whites on display, and you smiled back, glad for once that you two had ended on good terms, or else the interaction would've been more than awkward.
"S'all good, Kayd," you said, bringing up a hand and swatting at any of the extra liquid that hadn't seeped into your shirt yet. Luckily, you had chosen to wear black, so you could barely see the spill. Unluckily, the top didn't cover much, which meant most of your drink landed on bare skin. "Although I am a little sticky now."
"C'mon." He grabbed your wrist. "Lemme help with that." He tugged you toward the sink, and you followed with a shrug, ignoring the neon-red, flashing sign in your head that screamed Don't!
You squeezed past people until you made it to the sink. Kayden already had it turned on, and there was a paper towel in his hand that he ran beneath the water until it was soaked. He whirled around, immediately pressing the paper towel to your stomach. You squealed at the coldness of it, a shiver running down your spine.
"Fuck," you whined. "You couldn't have used warm water?"
He chuckled. "Sorry, man," he drawled. "Too late for that."
You rolled your eyes. "Yeah, no shit. Gimme that." You took the paper towel from his hand to wipe yourself off, but the damage was already done.
"Y/N." Her voice was loud, her tone short. You whipped around, your eyes wide as they landed on a pissed-looking Vada. She stood a few feet away, her arms crossed over her chest and her lips pulled into a deep frown. "What the fuck?" she seethed.
You ignored the voice in your head that was telling you she looked hot, hot, hot all mad like that, and the stirring in your lower belly, and focused on trying to save yourself. "Vads, baby, it's not--"
She lunged forward and grabbed your forearm, the paper towel slipping from your grasp and landing on the floor. Without a second word, she was yanking you through the party. You passed by your friends--Mia with a smirk on her face and Nick with his eyebrows furrowed--and offered them a shrug, just as confused as Nick seemed.
Your confusion only grew as you were tugged out the front door, down the porch steps, through the maze of cars in the driveway, and out the gate.
"Vada, where--"
Things started to click when your own car loomed in the distance. The two of you were approaching the vehicle quickly, and you fumbled around in your pocket for your keys. When you found them, you pushed the button to unlock the doors, perfectly timing it as Vada pulled on the handle and all but threw you into the backseat. It never failed to surprise you whenever she showed how strong she really was.
She climbed in after you, slammed the door shut, and then her lips were on yours, feverish and hot and mad. You moaned against her, trying to push yourself to sit up, but she didn't let you, one hand pressing down on your hip while the other was holding herself up.
She pulled away for the smallest second, and in the light of the streetlamp, you could see that her eyes were half-lidded, dark, and angry. Her head dipped down to your jaw, planting open-mouthed kisses along your skin, before dropping to your neck, teeth nipping and tongue soothing the bites.
"Vads," you breathed out, your hips bucking up.
"You're mine," she gritted into your neck, her leg coming up and pressing against your center.
You groaned, rolling your hips into her thigh and whining at the little contact you got. "Vads, baby, please."
Her hand flew down, fumbling with the button of your pants, and you giggled a little at her ineptness. She glared at you, all signs of possessiveness diminished. "A little help here?"
"Sure, sweetheart." You reached down, knocking her hand to the side, and undid your own pants. Almost as soon as you were done, Vada's hand was pushing yours out of the way so that she could pull your pants down your thighs and slip beneath your underwear, and you whimpered at the feeling of her brushing through your folds.
"Fuck, you're wet," she groaned, two fingers slipping into you easily as her thumb ran over your clit in tight circles.
You sighed at the feeling, hips careening upward as she curled her fingers. "Always for you, baby."
She nipped at your neck again and then pulled her head up, staring down at you. That dark look was back, the kind that made your knees buckle and had you knowing that Vada would have you seeing stars.
"For me? Yeah? Or for Kayden." There was venom in her voice when she said his name, and she thrusted into you harder, a moan slipping past your lips at the pressure.
"You, Vads." You gasped as her fingers curled into the rough spot in you. "Just--just you."
Her pace quickened, her fingers dragging against your walls and her thumb never ceasing on your clit. Your orgasm was fast approaching, urged on by Vada kissing your chest, your neck, your lips--anything she could reach.
"Fuck," you whimpered. "I'm gonna cum." At your words, Vada swiftly pulled out, and you were left a whining mess beneath her. "Vada!" you cried. "I was so close!"
She didn't spare you a second glance as her hand rushed down to her basketball shorts, pushing them down her legs. You furrowed your eyebrows.
"Yeah, I don't think we have room for scissori--" You were cut short by the feel of silicone pressing against your thigh, and you gulped. "You wore--"
"Was hoping the night would end like this," Vada confessed. "Well, not exactly like this. I didn't wanna see your ex trying to clean you off, or whatever the fuck that was, and I was kinda hoping we would be in a bed and not the backseat of your car, but--"
You rolled your eyes, reaching down and tugging on the fake cock between her legs. She gasped and her hips pushed forward, knocking the head of the toy against your folds. "You gonna ramble or are you gonna fuck me?" you teased, grinning at the furrow of her brows.
"Fuck you," she spat, and you were about to repeat the words right back to her when she sank in, pushing the air straight from your lungs and pulling a high-pitched moan from your lips. "Not so bratty now, huh?"
She drove her hips forward, forcing you to take the entire length. You squealed, pleasure rushing through every vein. Your hands shot up and wrapped around her back, nails digging into her t-shirt. She didn't give you a moment to adjust as she pulled out before pushing right back in, setting a brutal pace.
"Jesus, fuck," you groaned, throwing your head back. "It--You feel so good."
She leaned down, her full body weight on you as she fucked into you, lips pressed against your ear. "Can Kayden fuck you like this?" she grunted, her hips speeding up as she said his name.
You could barely hear her over the feeling of her cock in you, drowning out all of your thoughts as she thrusted harder, faster. Vada pulled back, sat up on her knees, and pushed your thighs up, making her go deeper. You gasped, whined, reached to bring her back to you, but she stayed up, pounding harder.
"I said, can Kayden fuck you like this?" she repeated between groans.
"No," you breathed out. "Just you, Vads."
She smirked, cocky, victorious. "God, you're such a good girl." The praise nearly had you falling off the edge, orgasm just out of reach. "My good girl. Takin' my cock so good."
"Fuck, baby. Gonna cum. So close," you babbled.
Her hips started to stutter, letting you know that she was right there with you. She reached down, thumb circling your clit, and you came with a low groan, the sound scratching itself out of your throat.
Vada kept pumping with half-assed thrusts, and you clenched around her, sensitive. "I'm right there," she grunted. She dropped your legs and all but fell onto you. "Fuck, fuck, gonna--"
She moaned into your ear as her orgasm hit, her hips finally slowing. You shuddered beneath her, walls fluttering around the cock still buried in you.
"Jesus, baby," you panted. "Guess I gotta talk to Kayden more often at parties."
She pushed herself up, glaring at you. "Don't even." She slipped out of you, and you shivered, watching as she pulled her shorts up. "Gonna have to wash these shorts when we get home."
You nodded, pulling her back on top of you even though you were hot and sweaty and still a little sticky from your drink. "Gonna have to wash myself when we get home."
Vada grinned against your neck. "I can help you with that."
bonus: "where do you think they're going?" nick asked as he watched vada drag you out the front door.
"i don't think we want to know," mia said.
"should we go after them?"
"definitely not."

I too ship Zutara and think they should have been canon. Although for me it's important to know how such a rewrite would go down. I tried to think, and I'm lost.
After Mai betrayed Azula for him, will he just go "sorry, not interested"? He isn't obligated to date her because of this, but her redemption hinges on Zuko and I don't see it being satisfying if he ends up rejecting her after this.
I thought the solution would be to rewrite her arc in boiling rock to make her have a moral realization, but then the problem with Maiko is practically solved. Their relationship wasn't salvaged by her redemption because last time they talked, Mai still didn't understand what's wrong with the Fire Nation and only changed because she loved Zuko. So how do you make it both satisfying & logical?
With Kataang the problem is the Chakras. The problem with the original (in my opinion) is that after he opened his chakra, letting go of his attachment to Katara, he's still attached (forcing a kiss on eip). Should TCoD get rewritten so that Azula shoots him before he opens it? Then why wouldn't he just open it later? Maybe the chakra would be locked so he feels as though he doesn't need to overcome his attachment just yet. In that situation, how would his chakra even unlock? The stone thing felt like nonsense, so how would I do it?
So yeah I have no idea how to approach this. How would you? (Thanks)
I've been rotating this ask in the back of my head like a rotisserie chicken for a few days--it's interesting because I don't generally stop to think like, how would I write them out of these relationships, I either ignore the relationships completely (which isn't hard, they were barely footnotes in the cartoon) or play a little bit with jealous exes or something. Thinking about like, In A Perfect World where Bryke wasn't in charge of ATLA post-canon (because if zutara had been canon, you can be sure they would've made us regret it) is interesting, and I do have thoughts on how I'd handle their relationships in a rewrite.
(this got long, so the rest is beneath the cut)
Assuming you mostly want to keep canon intact, I think maiko would be the easiest to work around, given how little relevance their relationship has in canon. The problem with maiko as an endgame ship is that it was not set up that way--if it had been, it would not have begun entirely off-screen and their whole relationship would not have been a study in misery and utter inability to connect emotionally. His relationship with Mai was there to showcase just how much he had changed and how little he fit into the life he had been so sure he wanted more than anything since his banishment. It worked very well to highlight Zuko's growth--how that contrasted to Mai's lack of it and why she could not understand him even at his most open and vulnerable--and did not work nearly so well when she was shoved back with him in the epilogue, after he'd quite literally forgotten her existence (he never mentions her again after Boiling Rock, not even to say a word of mourning, considering he'd have every reason to believe she was killed for defying his sister).
I don't think you can fix this by giving Mai some moral realization, because there simply is no room for it. As @araeph says in the essay I linked:
As a character, Mai is very useful to the story during Zuko’s return, because she represents everything that Zuko gains by sticking by his father. A girl who cares about him; the ability to indulge her; the authority he has over others at the palace; we see it all in his interactions with Mai. But this makes Mai a tether to a life he has long outgrown. Her function is not to advance Zuko’s character development, but to obstruct it, which also unfortunately means that Mai gaining a full understanding of Zuko’s trials would be disadvantageous to the story. If she knew everything about him and still wanted him to stay, it would give Zuko more cause than he should have to remain in the Fire Nation, but if she knew and encouraged him to leave and join the Avatar, it would rob Zuko of the triumph of making this decision on his own. In other words, there are good narrative reasons for keeping Mai in the dark; it just doesn’t make their relationship any stronger.
The seeds of a genuine redemption arc (one that includes some sort of moral realization and change to her moral framework) for Mai would have to have been planted far earlier than five episodes from the end of the series, but doing so would have of necessity detracted from Zuko's own character arc and the realizations that he makes despite his attachment to Mai (or more specifically to their relationship, which I feel like he was clinging to more out of a sense of abject loneliness he couldn't shake rather than genuine feelings and emotional connection).
So, in my mind, since we're tackling this with an eye towards getting rid of maiko with the fewest ripples to the overall story anyway, the easiest way to do this would be make one slight change to the end of the Boiling Rock two-parter--have Ty Lee (who had always been the least gung-ho of the trio about bowing to Azula's whims and had to be textually threatened into joining her in the first place) save Zuko's life, and then have Mai (who showed the most genuine affection for Ty Lee anyway) save Ty Lee. I love Zuko more than I fear you always fell flat for me as some epic declaration of love, anyway, since a) Zuko is not around to hear it, and b) unlike Ty Lee, she never showed much fear of Azula to begin with, so it wasn't a very high bar to clear. It was a cool line that was entirely unearned, and I don't think it would be missed, there would be some cute mailee crumbs this way, and a throwaway line of getting them released from the prison after the war ended could wrap up their presence in the story pretty nicely.
Now, kataang is a little trickier, if only because the last leg of Aang's character arc is almost completely derailed by his refusal to let go of his possessive attachment to Katara, to the point where he never naturally reopens his chakras, he has to have the Rock of Destiny hit him in just the right place, and the deus ex lionturtle there to give him a way out of having to make a hard moral choice. (I've maintained for years that if you work the final act of your main character's overall arc in such a way that it could have been solved by one good session with a chiropractor, something got fucked along the way.)
The thing about Aang's chakras is that, narratively, his whole thing with Guru Pathik and leaving his training early to save his friends was basically his version of Luke running away from his training with Yoda on Degobah because of his Force vision, only to find out that his friends were in the process of rescuing themselves and then losing his hand because he hadn't completed the most crucial part of his training. What's missing, therefore, from the last act of Aang's character arc, is the return.
See, in Star Wars, Luke pretty explicitly makes the wrong choice when he chooses to prioritize saving his friends over attaining enlightenment and fully mastering the Force. It was the only choice he could have made, but it was still the wrong one--because, like Aang, his friends did not actually need him to save them, he actually almost makes it harder for them to get away by requiring them to save him because, like Aang, he loses a battle in a very critical way. This was a lesson he desperately needed to learn, and it is clear he has learned it by the time he makes it back to Degobah and witnesses the end of Yoda's life, his own enlightenment having already been reached.
But Aang never goes back to the Guru.
And the text refuses to allow us to sit with the fact that he made the wrong choice in prioritizing his attachment to Katara over his ability to master the Avatar State. He is actually narratively vindicated about it, because the plot bends itself into a pretzel so that he doesn't have to spend any time during the last book trying to reopen his chakras and regain access to the Avatar State, handed both in the final battle with no excess effort on his part, and handed the girl into the bargain. (The girl who never even wanted him, so far as we can tell from all the lack of cues she gave him that she actually returned his feelings.)
And I think this could have been solved with a few scattered scenes. Let Katara actually have some agency in her own romantic relationship (or lack thereof), insofar as noticing Aang's advances and clueing the audience in to how she actually feels. Let Aang struggle with the fact that he can't reach the Avatar State, that his mastery of the elements is in limbo because he can't access his full power, rather than ignoring all of this until the end of the show. If we're trying to keep the shape of the last season roughly the same, let Katara confront Aang about the invasion kiss.
This would have been the perfect time to establish that Katara actually does feel some type of way about Aang prior to the epilogue, and it could have saved us from the exceedingly cringey EIP kiss that Aang never apologized for. How it comes across now, of course, is that Katara basically pretends it never even happened, to the point where she doesn't even know what Aang is talking about during EIP until he reminds her--the death knell for any shot their relationship had at looking requited, because I can tell you, as someone who's been a teenage girl, if someone I had conflicted but burgeoning romantic feelings for had kissed me, I would not have completely forgotten about it only a few weeks later--and we never get any indication as to what she actually felt about the kiss (which was not mutual, despite what Aang's dialogue in the EIP scene implies) except for the fact that she looked away and frowned afterwards. (A change mandated by Bryke, who wanted to leave her feelings completely ambiguous; the original storyboards had her smiling to herself.)
So, with an eye towards wrapping up Aang's puppy love crush and establishing Katara's distinct lack of romantic feelings for him, have her talk to him about the kiss. A good frame of reference for this would be Meng's conversation with Aang in "The Fortuneteller", where she finally realizes that he doesn't like her in the same way she likes him. Katara and Aang's conversation about the invasion kiss could be a callback to this, with Aang having some important realizations--that just because Katara doesn't share his feelings doesn't mean she loves him any less, and just because he can't have her the way he wanted doesn't mean he has to love her any less, that she doesn't belong to him but that's ok, because she's still his family and they'll always have each other's backs. Which could have functioned well in helping him take another step towards unblocking his chakras. Going back to the Guru directly may not have worked, since by this point in the story we're hurtling towards the final confrontation and Sozin's Comet, but let Aang reflect on what the Guru told him with new understanding granted him by his experiences throughout the first half of the season.
To keep the stakes high and up the suspense, obviously, he shouldn't have fully unlocked his chakras and the AS before the final fight, but the seeds could be planted--little moments like a talk with Katara about the invasion kiss, maybe a little more empathy and understanding from him about why Katara needs closure in TSR, etc--and then, during the final fight, rather than hand him all the answers on a silver platter, have him almost lose. He still can't go full Avatar, he's out of time, he still doesn't know exactly what to do about Ozai given his own pacifism and desire to preserve that part of his culture--he tries to fight but he's pretty quickly overpowered. Idk how I would've animated this, and maybe it wouldn't have looked as cool for the final fight, but the true climax of the finale was the Zuko and Azula agni kai anyway, so it hardly matters--I'm picturing him doing the rock-shield thing and going into a brief meditative state, where he finally achieves the enlightenment necessary to unlock the AS on his own, no rock of chiropracty necessary. And at this point, I'd give Ozai a Disney Death, since leaving him alive causes more problems than it solves and it's not necessary for Aang to kill him for him to die--they're fighting on a mountain ffs--but if you don't want to change that part then him figuring out energy bending as part of becoming a fully realized Avatar would at least feel more earned than the lionturtle just handing it to him. (And that could've been foreshadowed better by seeding the idea for it earlier in the season.)
After all of that, particularly if you up the emotions during the agni kai and have Zuko and Katara kiss there (or something less explicitly romantic but still tender, like a brief forehead touch), it'd feel pretty natural to have a just friends ending for Aang and Katara. Maybe a brief, slightly awkward but ultimately amiable conversation if Zuko and Katara had a ~thing at their final fight, and then the final shot of the series could be the gaang all together, maybe zutara holding hands or Katara resting her head on his shoulder or something, but since they already kissed there wouldn't feel like a need to end the whole show on romance, something which I've always felt missed the point of the series.
And then, y'know, after that, the world's your oyster! This is how I'd do it if I were trying to keep the bulk of the final season intact. Of course, breaking it all down to its component pieces and rebuilding from the ground up is also an option, but that'd probably be a longer post lol.

Hi a request from your 1k followers event (congratulations on hitting that milestone!)
Can I ask for Yandere Childe
The OC name is lukyan, 21 male
Personality wise: he's basically like Diluc, they seem cold and rude though different from Diluc, even when you get to know him he's still cold and distance (he barely interact w anyone and lack social skill badly-)
Backstory: he's basically an orphan in Snezhnaya but was never found out by the fatui, he kinda live in his own w another orphan who also never got found out by the fatui, when they were 15 the friend die and lukyan live alone from then on, he feel so guilty cuz he couldn’t protect his friends, rn he’s doing work like hunting or tree chopping to make sm money and live by the day (I tried to keep it short so now it sound weird😭)
In my canon he never really meet Childe, so you don’t need to write anything long just a general headcanon how would they meet in your mind and how would Yandere Childe work w someone like this
Also if I break any rules do tell me:,)
Ayyyy, thanks for sending the request, hope you'll enjoy😆
Trigger Warning: Yandere, Obsessive behaviour, Possessive behaviour
Childe had always seen him, sometimes out on the streets doing odd jobs, and sometimes through the corner of his eyes, but one thing always stayed the same, no matter how big the crowd, he could always notice Lukyan.
Observing him became kinda an obsession for Childe, seeing how he would run around, working his ass off for minimim payment... okay that last one makes him quite sad, he shouldn't have to work, Childe thinks that Lukyan deserves to be spoiled, to live a life of luxery.
Childe decides to become that person, the person who spoils and give gifts to Lukyan, presents will always appear in front of him without him seeing who leaves him with them. Childe isn't even liekly to get jealous with Lukyan since Lukyan acts cold and distant with others, in fact Childe prefers him to be this way
But Childe's patience can only go for so long, he grows annoyed that Lukyan isn't his, so what does he do? He uses his own authority as a harbinger to make sure no one is willing to give him any more jobs, no more jobs means no more money, and when Lukyan has no money, well some fatui's might loan him some money.
Money that Lukyan can't pay back, and who else but Childe can offer a solution when the fatui is hunting him down for being late on repayment. Become his and all the debt will dissapear, Lukyan doesn't have a choice.
"Well what do we have here, if it isn't Lukyan, it says you are 3 months late on paying us back... no need to fear, why don't you sit down, I have an offer I'm sure you'll be thrilled to hear about"

ateez when their s/o goes to the gym with them
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
genre: headcanons; general, crack
word count: 0.7k
warnings: none
author's notes: thanks for your request sweetie. i hope this is what you meant but please let me know if i misinterpreted because i am super tired and it's very likely that i might have 😭
Tumblr media
hongjoong
sharing a gym space with you allows hongjoong to step into flirty territory
he uses the equipment around him to make himself alluring ✨
i mean we all know he works on his chest the most so have fun with that one i'm totally not jealous ahaha i'm fine with this
but mostly it's kinda fun and carefree with him. he doesn't take the gym too seriously to be honest
will probably end up just chatting with you on the treadmill, both of you walking at a leisurely pace and using the time to catch up and talk about life
seonghwa
he persuades you to join like a yoga class or something
lists all the benefits of the class and pretends he's a professional when really his knowledge was all down to research he did in the middle of the night
the class is actually a lot more harder than he thought so he regrets even making you do it in the first place
so after bending in places he didn't know could bend, he's very much ready to take his leave and go get a maccies or smth
yunho
literally just goofs around the whole time
like... what did you expect?
if you thought this was going to be a serious gym session, please think again
this man literally does anything to make you laugh, and when he is in one of those giggly moods there's literally no stopping him, even at a public place like a gym
the type to sing 'row row row your boat' whilst on the rowing machine 💀 like you cannot take him anywhere
he's so unserious, pls
yeosang
he's like a humble bragger
will subtly flex and show off his arms to you, perhaps by using weights or resistance bands to work his biceps and triceps and really define their look
and then be all shy and giggly about like 'ahahha i'm so cute and shy but also very very hot please touch my arms uwu'
i can't with him-
he's actually a massive tease, idk if you can tell already
just so coy in like the best way possible, and he doesn't even mean to act like it. that's just who he is
san
he's not as subtle as yeosang is, that's for sure
we've got another flirty boy over here
he loves the attention he gets and he lives for compliments. words of affirmation is his thang, after all
so he will definitely show off in front of you and have no shame in doing so!
will probably go a step too far and lift really heavy weights that he can't actually lift and will probably pull a muscle or something 💀
then you'll have to support him as he limps his way out of the gym. hopefully he would've learned his lesson by that point
mingi
mingi is so touchy at the gym omg
he loves watching you working out regardless like it's just so satisfying for him
and then he will show off what he can do for you, within reason
but usually he likes working out with you and seeing if he can lend a hand in anyway
and between water breaks, despite being hot and sweaty, he's all over you, whether that's leaning on you when his breathing hard when really he just wants a hug, or anything else that he does
he loves spending time with you regardless so he is more than happy to invite you to the gym every time he thinks of going!
wooyoung
is so competitive omg, and for no reason???
like you might just be minding own business when he pulls up on the treadmill next to you and goes a pace higher than what you're doing
so then you go faster than him to challenge him
and then he goes faster than you
and so on
until yall are sprinting on that thing until one of you concedes to the other
depending on how stubborn you are, you could be running for a long while
just be sure to bring some water because you're gonna need it afterwards
jongho
jongho obviously is very strong and can quite easily lift most weights at the gym
he still likes to challenge himself though so he may try even heavier weights that he hasn't tried before
usually sticks to his own thing and leaves you to it
but if you ask him for help, he can be a very good personal trainer
will teach you how to do certain things you're unsure about or tell you how to do things safely so you don't hurt yourself or pull a muscle
he loves being able to help you in this way

there is a plethora of good x-files fanfics out there and i've just started to develop the problem of reading a very good one and not being able to find it again. because of this - and because all of these are genuinely novel worthy and the writers are INSANELY talented - i've decided to compile a list of some of my absolute favorites. some of these are from ao3 & some of them i found on other websites, such as x-libris and the gossamer project. i hope you enjoy these as much as i did and do. they mean the world to my romantic heart.
incrementum by lepusarcticus (explicit) - this was the first x-files fanfic i ever remember reading. i was trying desperately not to spoil the show for myself and i found out that this fic followed along the narrative, which was a godsend. i got the best of both worlds: a delectable, angsty passionate mulder/scully fic (in which they fucked from day 1) and no spoilers. it was so so so so fun reading this alongside watching the show. this writer is brilliant
omens by lepusarcticus (explicit) - i was not lying when i said this writer is brilliant. this entire thing reads like a novel and i could not for the life of me put it down when i stumbled upon it. its angsty and interesting, and could very well be another episode of the x-files because the case mulder and scully are one is so compelling. it is not easy feat to write something this good. chris carter, eat your heart out
triptych by iconicscullyoutfits (not rated but i'd say mature) - THIS WAS SO FUCKING GOOD. i can't speak highly enough about this one. its an au where mulder is married to diana fowley when he meets scully. its so so so so amazing. like i'd very well call this literature because it expanded my mind (i learned a great deal from this, especially from the chapter ice). i think diana was a very interesting character and i feel as though this fic treats her with the interest she deserves. the writing in this one is simply insane too - i'm envious of it and so so so in love with it.
love in all the wrong places by sisterspooky1013 (explicit) - mulder and scully accidentally have cybersex with each other while trying out online dating group chats. what more can i say? (also i applaud this author for making mulder's online handle allshookup61. that's so fucking mulder)
universal invariants (set from 1 to early season 2) and its sequel, laws of motion (set season 5) (both explicit) by syntax6 - these both hold such a special place in my heart. it is an au that takes on the idea that scully's bf (who was cut from the pilot, never to see the light of day) stays in the picture and there when dana starts working with fox. universal invariants makes me want to weep to because dana and fox are both so young and earnest and stupid! and laws of motion is great because they're still stupid but they're wiser about it. this is very dana and fox. i love, love, love the parts of universal invariants that cover dana's abduction arc. god these are GOOD.
arizona highways by fialka (explicit) - if you're one of those girlies who really likes an x-files episode that has a lot of case-file and scully going on, this one is FOR you. it is angsty in the worst of ways, covering more of what we see in the episodes christmas carol and emily. this is another one that i would call a novel, both in length and content. it is great and it is a very good dive into the character of scully and how she handles problems in her life
heart's desire by malibusunset (explicit) - this another really great scully-focused fic, where mulder is being a bit of an ass - as he is prone to - but she makes him come to his senses accidentally. i love a good jealous mulder and i love it even more when scully isn't exactly aware she's making him that way. this is so good that i stayed up an entire night reading it. you should too!
the guts / the incision / cauterize by wtfmulder (not all of the chapters are explicit but i would call this explicit in general) - this one is so fucking angsty it made me ache incredibly. it is a sucker punch to the gut that only the lovers (or rather, dedicated haters) of the diana/fox/dana situationship can truly appreciate. also, if you like your mulder a bit of an ass (i do! i think he really can be! i think its good to talk about!) this author is for you!!!
doorway to gods by wtfmulder (explicit) - a fic where mulder & scully go investigate a supposed portal to other dimensions shortly after scully recovers from cancer, and they both find themselves in separate hellish alternative universes where other mulder & scullys aren't doing so well. this is angsty, TOP TIER angsty. some of the scenes from this i think about often still and i read this a month ago. also this is hot. i can't not mention that small fact
the tiger complex by longgunguy (i'd say r for graphic violence but no sex or anything) - i'll be real, there isn't a whole lot of mulder/scully romance in this thing, aside from the a hand hold and a lot of quiet affection but this IS the x-files. in another world, this fic is an episode and it is brutal. you'll be biting your nails as you make your way through this one. its got a great cast of original characters and an incredible case-file, up there with an episode like ice.

I'm so curious as to what your thoughts are on acomaf/Rhys. Personally, the reason the second book infuriated me was bc SJM completely shifted Tamlin's good traits onto Rhys, while erasing the fucked up things the latter did (like breaking Feyre's arm 😅), and thus clumsily erasing chances for interesting complex grey-morality characterizations for both characters. Also Feyre forgot about Tamlin so fast it almost made the first book seem useless lol. idk, I just liked Tamlin and feel he was done dirty with the weird lib-feminist makeover acomaf got. I did continue reading the series though. I'm not trying to make you uncomfortable speaking about this, so feel free to ignore this ask. Have a lovely day 💖
Phew! So my issues with the series are NUMEROUS and some day I will go into all the reasons I quit ACOMAF 3/4 of the way through, but for now, let me sum up my problem by comparing it to another modern phenomenon: Frozen.
Like ACOTAR, I have many specific dislikes about the Frozen series, but my main problem with it is the way it cynically uses fairy tale motifs against the audience, but then still wants to claim it is a fairy tale. Frozen's setup gives the audience absolutely zero reason to doubt or distrust Hans (other than the arrival of Kristoff). In fact, Hans and Anna have one of the best insta-love songs from the Disney collection, and it galls me TO NO END that it's a trick, a lie. And then the rest of the movie repeatedly mocks the audience for believing in fairy tale love ("You can't marry a man you just met!"), as if to say everyone who has enjoyed Disney fairy tales up to this point is a sucker. Yet then it expects us to invest in the Anna-Kristoff romance after punishing us for the Anna-Hans one. And meanwhile, Kristoff is about as interesting as stale bread (sorry not sorry, it's true. I love you Jonathan Groff, it's not your fault sweetie.).
So anyway, back to ACOTAR. Book 1 is a straightforward Search For The Lost Husband. Taken on its own, it honestly rules as an example of this Cupid & Psyche tale type. It has the hunter-huntress motif, the jealous sisters, passage into the otherworld, hidden/cursed prince, supernatural helpers, three trials in the underworld, and even resurrection from death. It's literally perfect, other than Rhys marking her and just generally being creepy.
And then the next book PUNISHES the reader for enjoying that. HAHA you fool, you sucker, you got taken in by an abuser! Actually that whole book was a f*cking waste of time and a lie, and what Feyre really needs is this dude who's secretly perfect and who has all the aesthetics of a tormented prince but none of the actual psychological damage (like, say, Tamlin had). And who pursued Feyre not because of any natural affinity but because he knew she was his predetermined MATE (ew ew ew and I repeat EW). And who dictates every f*cking plot point and then magnanimously gives Feyre the OPTION of participating and we're all supposed to cheer because he says "It's your choice" before repeatedly using her and endangering her.
And to the extent that this is another Search For The Lost Husband, why would I want the same story told again, especially when the narrative wasted my time and mocked me for investing in the last romance? I just... really resent the author using those motifs without signaling sooner that she's going to deliberately undermine them (which can be done, in fairness, but it takes more skill than SJM has displayed).
So yeah, that's my issue. It really seems to come from this faux feminism that has a lot of antipathy toward traditional fairy tales, but doesn't know how to critique them without mocking the protagonist and audience alike.

Being their significant other headcanons, Dislyte edition.
Feat. Li Ling, Falken, Yun Chuan, Long Mian.
Author note: the first three were requested, the other was added by me for fun. The request for Falken asked for a shy reader but I'm doing really general headcanons here. Buuuuut... Yes I did change his headcanons a bit to fit the request. Also I wrote all this in the most gender neutral way possible, so anyone can enjoy it.
Twigger warnings: none? Maybe Long Mian being the most possessive man on Earth, but it was expected. Oh you can imagine some nsfw situations if you really try, but nothing mentioned here was meant to be nsfw.
Li Ling
You got in a relationship with this walking- floating menace. I'm not going to ask how.
He probably started floating around you a lot, showing off his powers to you until you asked him out because you thought he was flirting. He was not, but now he's glad you thought he was.
Anyway here we are!
First off, let's bust a myth. You know the "If there's something I can't stand is dumb rules"? Well, that doesn't really apply to you.
He might tease you sometimes, but he will never, ever cross your boundaries.
He respects you and you're one of the few people that can make him behave.
And this leads to another of his quotes.
"If you have something to say, you better have the power to back it up", right?
Well, he's your power to back it up. Doesn't matter if you're a normal person, and Esper, if you're in the Union or not, if you have a problem it is now also his problem and he'll back you up.
Yes this did lead to some accidents a few times but it's alright, the other person was always left alive.
Now the important part.
Six arms.
You think he's not going to use them?
No matter where you two are, his hands are always on you. Maybe one is on your shoulder, or on your waist, or holding your hand.
Anyway, if you're not comfortable with that he'll respect you. As I said earlier, he's respecting your boundaries, no matter how hard he wishes to squeeze you in a hug.
But he will lift you up at the most random times with his extra arms. And carry you around like a backpack. Like if he has somewhere to be and he wants you to be with him he won't talk, he'll just take you with him. You'll get used to it.
He isn't really possessive nor gets jealous easily. Probably because no one would dare try anything with you since you're with him. Bonus if you're strong enough that your fame alone is what keeps others from approaching you, Li Ling likes strong people.
Cuddles? Yes please. I feel like since most of his physical contact with others is through punches he's actually very cuddly. And he gives bear hugs. No I won't elaborate.
You're not a fan of physical contact? Cool, then you can do activities together! Maybe he can teach you how to cook meals typical of Tangton, or his family recipes! (Good luck if you're not a spicy food person.)
Pet names? He'll probably use your name more often, but "Babe" and "Sweetheart" are also good options.
And if you try to give him pet names he'll probably go 'uno reverse' and use them on you instead.
He's such a menace.
But he's your menace.
Falken
It all starts with you, who somehow you caught his attention, through an action or a particular feature you have, and now he's thinking about it. But what does Falken do when he thinks? He zones out.
So the first time you catch him staring at you and he doesn't even look away, you'll probably panic a little, thinking you did something wrong. He's an Union Commander after all, if he stares at someone there must be a valid reason, right? So you gather your courage and ask him what's wrong.
When he realizes that he's been staring you can bet he's embarrassed. Like a lot. He usually stares at things or animals, not people. And he'll notice you're a bit agitated now.
Him apologizing for making you uncomfortable is a great conversation starter though, he'll explain why he was staring and so you'll start talking. You become friends.
And soon you start dating. I'm positive Falken has some experience with love and so he recognizes the feeling that makes him zone out whenever he sees you, so he'll confess.
He's very focused on his work, but he keeps his life balanced so that he has time both for his duty as an Union Commander and as your boyfriend
Sometimes he might take some things for granted, like you enjoying PDA or physical contact. Please tell him if he crosses any boundaries, he'll be sure not to let it happen again.
That doesn't mean he'll take you for granted though. He loves you and cherishes you, he just needs help learning about you.
Which is something he really enjoys by the way.
If you happen to tell him about an interest or a preference of yours he will commit it to memory, even if it doesn't seem important at the moment.
If you have trouble speaking up for yourself he'll make sure to be by your side and help you. Not help you as in speaking for you, rather encouraging you overcoming your shyness and speaking for yourself.
Of course if you're actually unable to he'll just do it for you, but you can bet he's going to help you get better at it later.
It's not that he sees shyness as a bad thing, but he knows that sometimes it can get in the way and be an issue for you. He's okay with you being shy, as long as it doesn't stop you from being respected.
He doesn't get jealous but I see him as a bit possessive. Not possessive as in "you're mine", more as in "you're precious to me and I want to cherish and protect you". Like you're his but that's not the main point to him.
Oh you can count on him if someone makes you uncomfortable though. Guys/gals/hoes trying to hit on you? The "Eye of Horus" is on them and if stares could kill that person would be six feet under already.
Pet names? "Love" is the one he uses the most, "Dear" is for when he's back from a mission or he's tired after a long day of work.
He'll let you give him any pet name you want, as long as they make sense and aren't excessively ridiculous.
He just loves you and wishes to always be there for you.
Yun Chuan
Ohhhh boy, another menace. But a sweet menace.
So, how do you get the scary dog privileges? Well, the moment Screamer understands Yun Chuan is into you, that's when the fun starts.
Screamer is his wing man you can't tell me otherwise. He will get in your way so that you stumble on him and his master can catch you in his arms when you fall. He'll jump on you, pushing you against his master. Yun Chuan will apologize to you a lot about it but Screamer won't stop it, until one day his master finally confesses to you.
And you got the scary dogs privileges!
Yun Chuan will take you to befriend the Jagalions, that's for sure. Even if you're not a fighter he will teach you how to train with them and interact with them. Let's imagine that Jagalions don't trigger allergies so that even the allergy people can enjoy this.
Now, what about boundaries?
Of course he respects them. The funny thing is, he might even over-respect them.
He'll always ask if you're okay with anything, be it holding hands or kissing you. Especially in public, he will ask every single time for permission.
It's not that he doesn't like it, he loves giving you affection, he just wants to make sure you're comfortable with it.
He likes hugging you though. He is the master of bear hugs. Hugs in general. He will lift you from the ground while hugging you, no matter your size or height.
And about that.
This man is the best when it comes to body positivity. Like he will love your body for you and teach you how to love it as well.
Of course if you decide to work out he will take you to the Jagalions with him and you'll train together, but only if you're doing it because you want to, not because you feel pressured to.
No but like for real, doesn't matter if it's about a skin, hair or eye condition, or your weight, Yun Chuan will make sure you know he loves you as you are.
Possessive. A lot. In the "They're mine" way. If he's not with you then Screamer is. But he's also shy about it, he'll never admit to it. He's just making sure you're always safe, that's all. Even if you're a powerful Esper you might need assistance, right? Don't mind Screamer getting literally between you and whoever you are talking to, he's just making sure you're alright!
Rather than pet names he likes short versions of your name. He's not very good at pet names.
You can give him any pet name you want. He doesn't really get them but go ahead, have fun with it! But prefers when you call his name 100% of the time.
He might be awkward at times, like if for some reason you show a lot of skin (even though this man is barely covering his own shoulders), but it's just because he loves you and he doesn't want to hurt you in any way.
Long Mian
Because he likes collecting Miramon and creatures he deems unique, he's probably been watching you for a while and his first thought was to freeze you and put you in his collection room.
But! Then you made a different expression from the one you were making a moment ago! Maybe he could freeze you with that.
Your pose changed too! Oh no!
Once he realises that you have too many expressions and different poses, he decides to give you a few days and watch you, in order to decide how you would look best as an ice statue. He even starts talking to you, to see up close your facial features and watch them change with every expression you make.
He gives you a few more weeks, thinking that he needs to choose carefully.
And this plan backfires. He realizes he won't be able to hear your voice if he freezes you. And he likes your voice. He likes talking with you. He likes you.
This annoys him to no end, and he won't admit that he fell for you. But he still desires you, he wants you to be his.
After explaining to him that he can't force you to live in his collection room, you somehow agree to start dating. This way you're his and he'll still get to talk to you and spend time with you. Perfect solution, right?
...
He doesn't know how a relationship works. If it was up to him, you'd never leave his side, but you'll have to teach him that sometimes you have other things to do or that you need space.
He'll see you as something he owns and has to protect for a while at the beginning of the relationship. It will take an active effort from you to make him see you as an equal and not a collection item.
He'll come around I promise, he just needs time to understand his feelings and the fact that he does indeed love you.
Once he figures it out though, you're done for, because he will realize that others as well might develop feelings for you. He will make sure they know you are his beloved. Your neck is now covered in purple bruises and bite marks, he didn't mean to hurt you but don't you look beautiful like this?
Work on boundaries, he'll respect them once he understands why they're important for you. Which might take some time.
It's not that he will just do whatever he wants, he knows what 'No' means. He just won't bother asking, you'll have to say it first.
Loves you a lot though. The fact that he can't just freeze you and call it a day means that the time you two have is far more precious than what he has with the pieces in his collection. He treasures you, really.
He will make sure you know he loves you. Long Mian is self aware, he knows he often acts cold, but he doesn't want you to mistake his coldness for lack of love in your regards. So he always smiles a bit more with you and often tells you that he loves you.
Sometimes he'll just come up to you, kiss you, then go back to whatever he was doing.
He is touch starved, fight me.
He doesn't just like cuddling, he's addicted to it now. He just needs your body pressed against his, your warmth against his cold touch.
Did I already say he loves your voice?
Talk to him when you're together, sing if you want, read to him, just let him hear you. Whatever he's doing just let him hear your voice, let him know that you're here.
If you're sleeping he will come and lay his head on your chest to hear your heartbeat. He just needs to know that you're alive and well.
Pet names for you? Anything which he can put "My" in front of. "My love", "My dear", "My treasure", and so on.
For him? Just call him by his name. But if you really want to make him lose it (in a good way), put "My" first. Play his own game on him. He'll love it.
It is a complicated relationship and making it work requires a lot of effort from both sides, but it's worth it.

I just read your angst/jealous/drunk austin hc and imma need a fic like that when you’re not busy
oh anon. that was cute. i'm always busy with either my daughter, my job(s) or life in general. but also fics because i don't know when to stop. and this was from august. i'm so sorry. if you're still here. hi, this is one of three i started.
when will we get the time to be just friends
summary: a date goes well enough when you're broken up with austin. austin mildly ruins it by being drunk and calling you while being intensely jealous. the fact that he's in new york works to your advantage. fandom: austin butler | elvis 2022 rating: m pairing: austin butler x priscilla actress reader ( little dove verse, whatever you wanna call it ) word count: 1799 warnings: you know the drill. daddy kink. talk of a break up. jealousy. austin is drunk, dove is sober. no use of the y/n. dom/sub relationship. character bleed issues. mildly unhealthy dynamics. choking during sex. possessiveness. p in v sex ( unprotected via condom, but dove has a birth control patch ) author's note: for real though i am so sorry anon about how long this has taken. i still have like two other fics i started for this prompt and will probably post. so. if you're still here by golly you'll get a small feast. this is not canon, but consider it an offshoot? a what if? based on this headcanon/blurb/crumb thing.
Tumblr media
Consider you don’t block his number. Consider you just hang up the phone until five minutes later when you realize that for some ungodly reason you can’t stop thinking of what he said. He’s not wrong, you didn’t actually come with the guy you brought home and yes, you didn’t wear underwear with that dress, because it never really fit all that well when you did, it messed up the lines of the dress.
You debate the merits of blocking his number as you stare at the phone because you know you should. You know that at this point the way you and Austin have been interacting with each other isn't healthy, that you two should have given each other a clean break. You two should have stopped talking to each other so that you could both- heal properly from Elvis and whatever you two had gotten wrapped into while filming. It's just that talking to Austin was easy, it's always been weirdly easy for you even from that first day. Of course that first day might have been more flirting than it was talking but all the time after and all the phone calls during quarantine and then the time spent as Austin and you, Daddy and Dove, and even Elvis and Priscilla- it was just easy to talk to him. You miss him, god help you but you miss his touch and miss his hand around your throat. Before you realize just what you're doing you end up shooting him a text asking where he's staying.
He's lucky you've lived in New York for almost all of your life so that his answer that would be mildly incoherent to others is translated easily and you realize- his hotel is very close to your apartment. You still catch an Uber though, unwilling to walk in the heels and dress that you're in. Besides the wait for the Uber allows you to dwell on what you're doing. Dwell on the fact that you think you're going up to his hotel room to confront him but you know perfectly well that's not what's going to happen. He was so goddamn belligerent over the phone that you're surprised he didn't call you a slut, didn't tell you that you were still his like he hadn't fucked Lily Rose and Olivia and all those girls on the Masters of the Air set. You held no claim over him because you had tossed it away and you were okay with that- except sometimes- nights like this you couldn't help but wonder what would have been. What could have been, it would have been you and him on the date you had just been on. This dress would be a pool of fabric at the foot of your bed and he'd be entering you softly at first before you told him you wanted it harder.
Before you realize it, you're already at his hotel room door and you don't even get a chance to knock on the door before he's opening it as if he sensed you were on the other side already. He's not- fully drunk, you think, just enough that his tongue is loosened and that he doesn't have half the hang ups he's developed while talking to you since the break up. His eyes rake over your form, taking in how the dress clings to your body in all the right places to have him letting out a low groan. The finally settle on your thigh, peeking through the slit of the dress and he growls, pulling you in by the hand and shutting the door behind you in a rush. You want to tell him that you both shouldn't be doing this- that you're only here because you want to give him a piece of your mind but then you feel his lips on your neck, feel the slight brush of stubble against your skin and you whimper. The guy you had gone on a date with was fine, he was nice and great but he wasn't Austin.
"Missed you. Missed seeing you look this fucking gorgeous." He mouths at your neck, nipping just slightly before giving you an actual bite. "Showing off your legs, Dove. You knew there were going to be cameras there, knew I'd see it."
"I didn't." You whisper quietly, your hands against your own wishes move to grab at his hair, yanking at the strands. "Didn't see the camera till they already took a pic."
That earns a snarl from Austin has his hands move to find the zipper to your dress, which he finds quicker than he has any right to with how much liquor you figure he's had. "So he didn't protect you. Let my Dove get her photo taken against her will. You know I would have made sure no one saw you like that if you didn't want it. Would have only let me and the staff see you like that."
It shouldn't make your toes curl, the way he threatens that he would have protected you. It should bother you that he's still this possessive over you like you both just left the Elvis set but- it does. Your toes curl in your heels and Austin notices how you're shivering under his touch as he starts to pull down your dress.
"Gonna fuck you. Need to fuck you." He mumbles, his hands moving to cup your bare breasts because of course this dress didn't allow you to wear any undergarments. That boy would have enjoyed you like this, like only he has the right to. Like only he should, even if you're not his girlfriend- his sub- his everything and more any more. "Need my Dove. Gonna make you feel good, forget about him. Make you miss me."
You figure that maybe Austin is just gone enough that he won't remember your next words and you're feeling every feeling you've been trying to work through in therapy just rush to the surface. "I already miss you. So much. Why do you think i keep talking to you?"
After all, that's all you'll allow yourself to have because anything else means you broke up with him for no reason, for no purpose. You're not supposed to have anything else. Just maybe Austin as a friend, as someone who knows every single thing about you, who you trusted to submit to and who- broke your heart maybe as much as you broke his.
Something about you saying that spurs something in him, has him making the dress pool at your feet and has him lifting you up against the wall as he fumbles with his pajama pants, pulling them down just enough to free his already aching cock. It looks angry and red and covered in precum, almost as if he'd been playing with it before you arrived, a notion that has you moaning against him as he lines himself up with your cunt. You shouldn't be wet, you shouldn't be aroused by the way he's so jealous but it's done something for you, it's reminded you that this is why you thought he was perfect. He wants to protect you, he wants only you, he wants you with a focus that is terrifying and yet so endearing.
The feel of his cock after so long takes your breath away, has you clawing at his back because he's not pulling any punches so why should you, his thrusts are messy and fast and hard and you love it while craving maybe a hint of softness that you don't dare ask for. He starts to slur words against you, a hand moving to your neck to choke you lightly, his voice sounding like a mix of Elvis and like the California boy that you never met and you likely never will even if he can shake this drawl.
"Shouldn't have let you leave me. Should have come straight here to get you back. Love you so much. Miss you so much. Miss your everything so goddamn much. Want you by my feet again. Want my collar on that neck of yours." He keeps moving, keeps having his hand tighten but not enough to worry you. "Still got the necklace. Still mine."
You shouldn't entertain this, you shouldn't but the words are making you want to sob and you don't want to, you bury the urge and just grab onto his wrist with one hand and tap once. Yes. You're still his. You're always going to be his no matter what because isn't that the joke, that you don't think even if you can detangle every last bit of you that was Priscilla and even if he can detangle every last bit of himself that was Elvis that you're not going to be his and he's not going to be yours.
Maybe it's because he had already been playing with himself before you came or maybe it's from the way your cunt clenches around him as he tightens his grip but you feel him cum and hear his groan as he does. Your heartbeat rushes in your ear from the lack of oxygen and yet you swear you hear him whispering your name. Not Dove, not Cilla. Your actual government name and somehow that does it for you. He doesn't even have to touch your clit before a small orgasm barrels through you. It's small but the release you feel from it scares you in its intensity. His hand leaves your neck and you take the opportunity to breathe, the opportunity to catch your breath from the lack of air and from just being around Austin after so long. Austin- you figure- is doing the same before you feel him trying to nuzzle at your neck. You feel him placing kisses on your jaw, they're messy but they're also softer than you think he has any right to do after what he said.
"Stay here tonight." He asks as he pulls out. The words are soft, almost like he doesn't want to say them but he needs to. Needs you to hear them. "Please."
Austin does not beg, that was always you. That's always how it's been. You beg and you ask and you get what you want. Austin asks and you give because he is giving you what you need. The question, the plea makes you open your eyes that you hadn't even realized had shut at some point to just look at him. You see his blue eyes mildly glassy but brimming with what you think are tears. You know what you should say, what you should do but you're selfish and young and you can't help your answer, simple and said with a nod. "Okay."
You leave before he wakes up.

i Saw that you were reading yellow face and i was wondering if youd seen withcindys video on it. shes a vietnamese american booktuber, and in her video, she discusses the debate about who can write what stories (like can someone from a diaspora community write a story about the trauma suffered by those in the country their family originated from?) as well as the roll of social class and how it interacts with other factors.
its a really interesting watch and she doesnt pull any of her punches.
hi I just watched it! I don't disagree with anything withcindy says about the advantages that economic status bring to authors in the publishing industry, or that RF Kuang has benefitted hugely from her wealth and the education its afforded her, but it does seem very strange to omit that fact that in Yellowface Athena is revealed to have spent almost her entire literary career benefitting off of other people's pain. the reveal that she (likely) plagiarized June's experience with being sexually assaulted is, I think, pretty crucial to framing their relationship; while it certainly doesn't absolve June of her racism or plagiarism, there is a basis to her resentments that's certainly more personal and grounded in a legitimate criticism of Athena other than being jealous of her being wealthy, pretty, and successful.
I also think this is exactly the kind of exploration of Athena's wealth that withcindy claims is absent from the book; the impression I got of Athena was very much that, having grown up with extreme privilege, she was out of touch enough to feel zero compunctions or remorse about shamelessly mining other people's lives for trauma and turning them into best-selling stories. so I don't know that it's entirely fair to say that all criticism of Athena is just criticism of RF Kuang coming out of the mouthpiece of a jealous bitch when Athena herself seems to have been written as very consciously based on Kuang's own experiences but also pretty intentionally out of touch and unpleasant; maybe I'm being overly generous, but I took Kuang's depiction of Athena to be much more deliberate and tougue in cheek than withcindy seems to.
this is also kind of nitpicky but withcindy keeps referring to the idea that the book ought to be more nuanced as a "literary novel," which seems strange since the term literary novel doesn't actually come with any suggestion of style or substance; all that literary fic is meant to denote is a book that doesn't fall neatly into other categories of genre fiction and tends to be driven more by character than plot. Yellowface is very much within that framework, and has a lot in common with other recent novels like The Other Black Girl and Disorientation that also satirize racism in publishing and academia, respectively.
idk it's not baseless criticism but it seems to overlook any part of the book that doesn't gel neatly with the thesis withcindy is trying to present about RF Kuang and that doesn't mmm strengthen the argument

hi betts! i'm wondering if you have any advice for a writer struggling with jealousy? in general, i don't consider myself to be a very jealous person. but a good friend of mine has recently had much success and received a lot of praise. it's given my writing ego a big hit, even though a part of me is still happy for her and believes she deserves it. but it is making an impact on my writing habits. any thoughts? thank you!
oh no! i'm so sorry you're going through that, anon. jealousy is such a difficult emotion, because there's almost always guilt piled on top of it, and by that i mean, the shame of "it's wrong to be feeling this way."
so i guess that's my first piece of advice: let yourself be jealous. there is not a writer on this earth who has totally skirted jealousy. it's something ugly that returns to us no matter how much success we find. there's always someone who writes the way we wish we could write. there's always someone more successful. if you don't let yourself feel what you're feeling, it's easy for that emotion to get lodged within you and you end up carrying it everywhere. if held, jealousy turns into resentment, into problems of self-worth. do whatever you have to do to accept that feeling, and know that it's okay to feel that way.
the thing about jealousy is that in saying, "i wish i had what that person has," we're also saying, "having what that person has would validate me," and that in turn is saying, "because i don't have what that person has, i am not as valid as i thought i was."
i don't have to say, "but you're always valid," because you know it already (or at least, i hope you do). it's just that sometimes there are situations like this one that make you question the things you know to be true, and you have to find ways to reaffirm that knowledge.
the hideous truth of success in writing is that it has very little to do with us. success is someone with authority choosing you. that's it. that's why rejection is so ubiquitous: you simply have to put your work in front of as many people as you possibly can until it happens upon someone who vibes with you. you might say, "if i'm good enough, they'll choose me," but that's not true either. even to the most professional and objective editors, personal taste still informs our ideas of artistic quality. at the end of the day, someone choosing you is very much influenced by someone thinking, "i, personally, want to read that."
what helped me the most with jealousy was being put on the other side of the divide. as soon as i started being the person who accepts, rejects, or rates work, it put my perspective of my own work in a new light and showed me how subjective and personal success really is. as objective as i try to be, a truth difficult to grasp is that everyone's work holds merit. and when i approach editorial positions, juror work, or contest judging, i go into it with the knowledge that my experiences and knowledge and personal tastes will always influence my decisions. in turn, my work has been judged in the same way. it simply can't be helped. if it were possible to quantify quality in a creative work, it would cease to be creative. subjectivity and creativity go hand in hand.
there are many people who know this truth and their answer is to appeal to the widest possible audience. this is absolutely attainable in every form of writing. but i think many of us can agree that we live in a time where mass media tries far too hard to appeal to the widest possible audience and the quality lessens because of it. the larger the audience, the more creative concessions you have to make in your work. and if all you want is to get an agent or get published or write the top fic in a huge fandom, you can aim for all of those things, but they will often be at the cost of pride in your work.
loving and being proud of what you make because it represents who you are and what you want to say is the highest goal. it's also often going to have the narrowest audience. that's okay. write the thing you want to fight for first, and then fight for it, accepting that some people, for whatever reason, whether it be luck or whatever else, will not have to fight as hard as you. and there will be yet others who have to fight harder.
but as i often say, every writer is on their own journey. some roads are longer and more fraught than others. all you can do is stay focused on your own path, and trust that you'll make it to your destination eventually.

one thing that makes me feel crazy is when people like. man this is about to sound like a "slash fans devalue male friendship" ass take which is not like. what i'm saying. but people like. they don't differentiate between ordinary care and romantic love. if that makes sense. like one thing i have noticed is that fanfictions and posts will kind of blur the line between dean caring about cas at all, or dean being closer to cas than sam is, and dean being in love with cas.
like, to me, the general vibes of evidence that dean is in love with cas goes as follows: 1) i think dean is gay, 2) i think dean essentially treats cas as a life partner, 3) it's clear to me that dean has some degree of repression and secrecy in his relationship to cas, and 4) there are certain specific behaviors that dean engages in with cas (touching him a lot, being obsessed with his sex life, etc.) that i think sexualize their relationship to some extent.
and each of these categories on their own doesn't really mean that dean is in love with cas. like, for an easy example, dean could be gay and simply not in love with his best friend. like just because dean and benny fucked raw against a tree in purgatory doesn't mean dean wants to get with cas.
the life partner thing is sticky specifically for dean because he's also treated sam that way in the past and i don't think dean is in love with his brother lol. like i think for a lot of people their experience of romantic love and their experience of having a life partner-esque relationship are like, the same thing? the venn diagram is a circle? but that's not dean's experience.
the repression is harder to handwave away, but i think you can reasonably argue that dean is repressed in all his affection because he has a masculinity complex about showing vulnerability.
and then there's the sexualized behaviors which like. honestly on their own they are indicative of at the very least a crush. come on man. there's only two things i know for certain etc.
i think these four pieces of evidence, taken together as a whole picture rather than individually, are evidence that dean is in love with cas. but i don't think any of them on their own is really proof of that except maybe number 4, but even then crushes are fleeting, they fade, dean making heart eyes in season five doesn't necessarily mean he was *in lurve* in season ten. like you need to look at all the evidence for a complete picture.
and it's notable that there's a lot of behavior i don't really put here at all. like i don't think a lot of the care dean shows cas can reasonably be argued to be evidence that dean is in love with cas, or like, i don't think dean's extreme jealousy and possessiveness is indicative of that either because he is also jealous and possessive of his family members (at least, sam and mary) and he would probably be possessive of anyone else he was super close to if there was anybody. the only person we've seen dean get that close to and not get jealous over is bobby, which is interesting but i think mostly comes down to the fact that dean sees bobby as an authority figure over him rather than the other way 'round.
(also a little off topic but i'm always saying this and it bears repeating: i also think dean is happy in their relationship as it is in the late seasons, at least 13/14/15, like i think that what he wants, he has. the positive things that would result from them making it official are 1) dean unpacking his own sexuality would be good for him in a variety of complex ways that mostly don't really directly touch on his relationship with cas and are more related to his own identity, 2) cas would be a LOT happier for a variety of obvious and not-so-obvious reasons that i won't enumerate here because they're not really relevant to the dean analysis i'm doing, and 2.5) with the relationship now named, dean would be forced to contemplate and think about his relationship with cas and what it consists of, instead of just using it as a building block of his life without really looking at it. anyway, don't get me wrong, dean would be very happy to be explicitly in a romantic relationship with cas. but he's also very happy in a platonic domestic partnership.)
(also re: the abandonment issues objection: personally i think dean has fewer abandonment issues as the show goes on and sam and cas stop leaving/trying to (for evidence, see the divorce arc: dean is extremely confident that cas won't leave, so he feels comfortable taking out his anger and pain on cas, and is then shocked when this drives cas away), and i don't really think getting into a relationship would either increase or decrease his level of abandonment issues anyway.)
anyway the thing is that this is all motivated by a fanfic i saw that assumed that it would be logical for sam not to differentiate between "dean and cas' relationship is close and intense, and certainly dean has more of a right to cas' time than i do by dint of how close our different relationships to cas are" and "dean and cas are In Love." when it's like... no. i think that from, say, sam's point of view, from what sam has seen, it's perfectly logical to simply think dean and cas are extremely close.
(personally imo if sam knows dean is in love with cas it's because sam already suspects that dean is gay from the evidence he has from other situations (e.g. the siren, the way dean acted with benny), and because he has that information, he can then put two and two together wrt. dean and cas' extreme closeness. like just the closeness isn't enough.)
and then i started thinking about another fic i read which wove the concept of dean and cas being in love into the homeless cas arc in a way that made me feel like the author was failing to differentiate between dean being in love with cas and showing him basic care. like in fact i think that dean was both in love with cas in season nine and a phenomenally shitty friend and person to him during that time, both are true.
anyway the point of this essay is elusive to me it's a collection of thoughts that don't quite fit together in a way i can verbalize but essentially it's... i don't know. people inject too much romance (and too many ideas about romance) into destiel even though destiel is a romantic relationship? that's not right but it's part of it. there's not only one way to interpret most of dean's actions even though overall they paint a specific picture? that's also not it even though it's in there. people can be important to each other without being in love, and person a being important to person b is not good evidence that person b is in love with person a? that's closer to what i was going for.
anyway the thing is i do think dean is in love with cas and that this is the most accurate reading of the text but i don't think it's obvious and it's definitely not obvious to anyone but the audience because only the audience has all the evidence from which this conclusion can be drawn.

AHHHHH! I'm so excited this is the first request ive received on tumblr! Plus the first request I have received for VNC in general!
I love the art for your oc! she's adorable!
I had to look up what yuutsu was, and it said dark, gloomy and depressed. so I am very excited to write about this, I am an ameture author so please give me constructive criticism! :DD
I was also unsure if this was an x oc request or just an x Reader so I went for the safe side and did an x reader.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
YANDERE! VANITAS X YUUTSU! READER
Vanitas:
At first he found you slightly annoying, you were always so sad, it was just plain boring! But after spending a bit of time with you he grew to like you. Everything about you even the bad.
Soon he became un-reasonably jealous, over the smallest things too! He once got jealous when you had a conversation with Noe!
That was the point when he realized he had developed feelings, and not even just like a small crush, he realized he had become completely infatuated with everything you did!
After a short period of time you had started to notice small things would be going missing randomly, and it wasn't like any of them had any coordination other than you owned them.
small things, like your toothbrush, a pair of underwear or two, the pillow case you had gone to wash, your favorite perfume.
He didn't know it was unhealthy, We all know how he was raised he didn't have the best role models for what love should look like.
It's not like he can help it anyway, Vanitas just finds you so endearing! even when you're being all sad and negative, he just loves you so much he cant not like everything!
However he doesn't like anything having to do with any self destructive habits or tendencies, he cant have you getting hurt now can he.
Whenever you start to talk about ho much you hate yourself his heart breaks, He just can't understand why you don't like yourself!
He's so loving and sweet whenever you hit an especially bad depressive episode he'll help you take care of yourself, bringing you food and water, getting you out of bed to take warm showers with him, keeping your room just a little cleaner. It may be small but it does help
He also finds a strange amount of comfort in things typically deemed "gloomy" by society, it just reminds him of his darling so much!
If your spirits are especially low he will just hug you, he may be a major tease but even he can tell when to stop.

In my understanding this tiktok video (https ://vt.tiktok.com/ZSLt7AAgE/) literally is how will grayson treat other women that's not emory scott, including his initial stages of escort-fuck buddy-friendship thing with alex, and his character as a man and his relationship turns me off so bad, that i rooted less for him each time he appeared on page as i lose my respect towards how he treats women in general. Like we knew Michael and Damon were shit, but they both ADMITTED to it, but Will was always labelled as "amazing" and all good things, but his character was like THAT? Nah. The same goes with alex when she used others to hurt aydin, idk i find men, women, MCs & FMCs like them so icky, so i especially hate reading about fictional characters with these traits. What i hate about alex was that she could've been like emmy where she would've beenjust jealous n her head, and not humiliate or touch her physically to put her down, but alex literally just proves the stereotype of fighting over a dumb guy with an innocent woman. I disliked that banks and rika fight in hideaway for the same reason too. I can understand where they came from, but i fucking hated it. I hate it even more when other female reader cheered them on for it. I hated the will/damon/aydin jealousy scenes with a passion too. In fact, I would usually avoid these scenes in romance books if i can, because authors spent so much time wasting their talents on scenes of characters being jealous for other LIs, than building ACTUAL happiness & chemistry between them. I couldn't avoid this trope for this book especially, because i was never warned that the trope "other men/women drama" with a touch of "treating non-Love Interest like shit" trope were so fucking bad in Nightfall, it just ruins everything about Will for me.
Personally though, i'm not a big fan of both alex and will, and even though i know you're not very fond of alex too, i think based on one of your older asks about willalex's relationship, you described your understanding of alex's place in will's life differently than i would have. I don't have any problems with differing opinions though. I feel like you saw and put a lot more importance of alex's presence in will's life more than i did, or even will did. It's interesting how we interpret characters, because while i can agree with some of your interpretations of them, i have a very opposite opinion with the others. I also always thought it was kinda sad that for someone who was "close" to will, alex was the one who always "seems" to care more about will, than the other way around. But it's not like her care matters so much, because it still doesn't change will for the better, he only just got less lonely, but was still very self-destructive. For me, even though i knew that alex was a friend and family to will, and is automatically important to him for that, i never saw any hint that she was THAT important to Will personally, even off-page, like how you described in that willalex friendship post. Idk, maybe it's just me.
Because just like damon who had an exception towards winter, will too had an exception towards emmy, where he used everything he can as long as they're not emmy. So his relationship with alex too wasnt always sincere or deep, they only bonded through shallow things which then after one or two years of casual friendship, made them mirrors of each other's pain (or so they thought, they're shallow people, i can't always take their observations seriously), so i cant see why people fawn or get mad over their relationship too much. The fact that will couldn't get any friends outside of the horsemen if they're not their friends' girls, escorts, people he can pay with money, or people of similar status with him, even with all his status and privilege, already tells a lot about his classist and shallow personility. I kinda understand though being friends with people of the same class, since it's easier to get along with people who gets you immidiately without feeling like you're being judge for it, but still. The more that i think about this side of him too, the lesser i like him.
Idk, and that's the thing, when i read nightfall, i couldn't enjoy willemmy's story, because willemmy was busy destroying themselves and each other, then continue to go back to being jealous of the other, while always letting others intervene their relationship. Even when they had time alone, they always had to involve some third parties in their relationship, which pisses me off so much. It's one thing when people kept on meddling in their relationship, but it's another thing for them to drag others in it, just because they were immature, couldnt handle their feelings like mature adults. Their problems had existed way before alex and aydin got between them. We get the gist already if emory was a stronger woman, so i'm not gonna talk about her, but will. Ah, will, that useless fuck of a character, a character who no one calls him out for his shit. Now, If Will Grayson was a stronger man, Alex Palmer will never be able to slap Emory Scott. The only reason why his friends can treat emmy like shit was because Will lead them by example, just like how the horsemen initially didnt respect rik because michael humiliate him by example. Weak men are truly a fucking disease. Will humiliated and set a standard to how emmy deserves to be treated first, in front of stranger, classmates, and friends, i can't always blame others to not intervene or when emmy had to fight alone, because will grayson, when it matters, never really stood up for emmy. Even in high school he only did when it was for petty shit. The same thing happened when he humiliated her in front of everyone in the train, and letting emmy being insulted again by alex before that orgy. Idk, it's such a cruel thing, he was just as mean as emmy, but it was always overlooked by others. Will grayson is such a turn off for me fr, i can never see myself being attracted to a man or a book boyfriend like him tbh. Damon would never let anyone treats Winter like that, not even her own sister, even though HE was worse for her at first, and this comes from a damon hater alright. Nightfall made me so disappointed of will, i almost skipped nightfall's epilogue and his pov in firenight, if not for emmy's crumbs. All of that drama and pain because he was a pussy.
I hink i really agree with one of your older damon slander asks that said something about hating to read about whiny incompetent male characters, and it's probably not just because of my moral or personality, but also because we had enough of these men in reality! I dont want to escape reality only to find men like the horsemen in stories i read. Will grayson could've been like christian from the made series, but no, he was the walmart version of him.
Idk idc, will grayson didnt do it for me. Anyway, if you want a morally better and ACTUAL loyal pining of ACTUAL mean girl x sunshine amazing characters, i recommend you and your followers The Losers series by Harley Laroux. It's devil's night, but fucking amazing. It's reverse harem though, so if you're not into it then maybe you can just skip it. The main character jessica, was everything that pd wished rika or alex were and would be. Literally. Jessica was THE it girl, and she embraced it. This series was about going over the edge too, and be true to yourself, and just exploring topics of kinks, shame, vulnerability, love, friendships, identity, career, desire, etc. and everything amazing i could think of. Thats all.
I tried to find the tiktok but the link didn’t go anywhere/said the video was unavailable. If you manage to find it again, or one similar, feel free to send it through.
I mean, it’s easy to sit here and say I wish the series had been done differently. There’s plenty I would change in the development of the characters, but there’s only so much I can do before I overhaul everything and start with something new. In that case, wouldn’t I just be using PDs framework/bones to build my own story? But then, aren’t a lot of the series/books in this genre (especially on KU) just made from the same bones? Built on the same or very similar idea? It’s true that there’s nothing new under the sun, but where does inspiration end and stealing begin?
This is all just to say I understand where you’re coming from.
Taking Will out of the super special box I’ve placed him in, examining him without rose-colored glasses, Will’s nothing. Less than nothing, really. He’s not good, he’s not kind, he’s not all that funny. Adding to that, all of these characters, with a few exceptions, are underdeveloped and inconsistent. I wanted more from the mysteries that PD posed, and I wanted more from the “bad guys for a good reason” vibe. What we got was a bunch of immature and messy characters acting like they knew what they were doing, but in reality really proved that privilege can give you a lot of blind spots. DN could have been done better. I’ve never denied that.
If you hate when authors use jealousy as motivation this much, then I can see why you were frustrated reading the series. For a group of people who were about freely experiencing the world with no limitations, and openly shared their S.O.s with their friends occasionally, they sure were jealous a lot. But you know… people get jealous. People also react out of anger and do stupid stuff for reasons that I can’t understand. So I won’t say that Alex should have been like Emmy because Emmy’s reaction was one that I could understand and relate to. Because there are real people who have reacted like Alex. What I didn’t like is that PD framed it as though Emmy was wrong and Alex was right. The reality is that neither of them should have been framed as the superior one. Emmy wasn’t perfect, I just understood her better.
I can see why Will was ruined for you. Like I’ve said before, by the end of NF I was ready to scrap the whole series, save for the past scenes where I agree with the portrayal of his character, and wipe my hands clean.
I feel like you saw and put a lot more importance of alex's presence in will's life more than i did, or even will did.
Honestly, I never saw Alex as important until Nightfall tried to convince us she was. But since that’s the narrative it served us, I tried to examine from that perspective. Why is Alex here? Why is she even relevant? The easy answer is that PD pushed that narrative. But removing that, just analyzing what the story is, and what are we left with? Making it make sense is what I'm trying to do.
I also always thought it was kinda sad that for someone who was "close" to will, alex was the one who always "seems" to care more about will, than the other way around. But it's not like her care matters so much, because it still doesn't change will for the better, he only just got less lonely, but was still very self-destructive.
What I thought was fascinating about this point is that you’re right, but also…
As noted at the end of KS, Will only started improving when Damon returned and his friends started helping him get off drugs. They got him clean, but not sober. I think that’s what finally motivated him to go to BC, because he started realizing he had nothing to offer his friends anymore. On top of that, was he going to rely on them to keep him clean? He couldn’t. He needed to learn to do that on his own. First real grown-up decision he made. Of course, he then became the worst version of himself, too scared to return to a place that offered all his vices so freely because he couldn't trust himself, and too stunted to try. He did the physical work, but none of the emotional or mental work. Alex never helped him with any of that.
She comforted him. She made him think everything he was doing was okay. Maybe she tried to encourage him, but I don’t think she ever pushed him to be better like Emmy would have. Emmy would have demanded better (at least the Emmy that lives in my head, but I think the book version is at least closer to that then Alex ever was). I truly think if Emmy had returned to Thunder Bay by the time Will was released from prison, he would either have never gotten that bad or she would and forced him to get better earlier.
But Emmy wasn’t there. Alex was, and who know why Alex did anything. Was it her character? Was it her flaws? Did she not know what to do for him because she’s literally 19 and life suddenly hands her a client who’s been to prison and has trauma surrounding that, and is angry, and is numbing his pain with vices, but that she can occasionally see a glimmer of something more in? I don’t know. Maybe it was just excellent sex, and even she says that’s what she’s usually thinking about. She says he puts in the work. Either way, because of the way this story was told, it’s up to the reader to make up their own mind. No one is more correct than anyone else, least of all me. I read way too much into this anyway. It’s really not that deep.
The fact that will couldn't get any friends outside of the horsemen if they're not their friends' girls, escorts, people he can pay with money, or people of similar status with him, even with all his status and privilege, already tells a lot about his classist and shallow personility. I kinda understand though being friends with people of the same class
I mean… I’m not sure about this opinion. We see these guys host parties in nearly every book. It’s safe to say they have friends outside each other. And if you want to say all those friendships are shallow because they’re built on who has money and what people can offer each other, that’s fine. I won’t argue that point, though I’d disagree with it. But it’s obvious that these relationships are the most important to them, and since we only see a very narrow time frame of the series, we don’t get a lot of development of outside plot.
Even when they had time alone, they always had to involve some third parties in their relationship, which pisses me off so much.
This is partly why I say I would have preferred if NF had taken place in Thunder Bay like the others or was not the end of the series. The force proximity and limited cast really make it difficult to determine what is Will and Emmy, and what is the situation forcing them to act this way. Not giving either an escape route to see what decisions they’d make without the pressure is frustrating. There is a way to keep this plot and make the series work.
Now, If Will Grayson was a stronger man, Alex Palmer will never be able to slap Emory Scott. The only reason why his friends can treat emmy like shit was because Will lead them by example, just like how the horsemen initially didnt respect rik because michael humiliate him by example.
This is a fair point. I’ve been thinking a lot about friend group dynamics, especially in fours (gee, wonder why), and I realized something that frustrates me about the way the horsemen are set up. I’m gonna segue into something else, so if you want to skip the next few paragraphs, that’s fine.
Michael is set up as the leader, Kai the brains, Damon the passion, and Will the heart. In recent posts, I’ve called Michael the brain, and Kai the heart. Because that’s what makes sense to me in terms of the roles they feel. A leader needs to lead with something, right. It can be courage, it can be heart, it can be logic, but it needs to be something. Just calling Michael a leader because he makes the call doesn’t mean anything. What is he leading with.
But Michael is framed as logical and decisive, so I place him as the brain. Kai is supposed to be compassionate and wise, the voice of reason in the group, which PD calls the brains, but I call the heart. Damon can remain the passion. But that leaves Will with nothing.
Will, in my head, is supposed to be the glue that holds them together. He’s supposed to be the one they go to when they need encouragement, to see things from a better perspective. The one that fixes them, not the other way around.
If that’s the case, he totally fails in his role. He’s so weakened by his various traumas and heartbreak, he can’t fulfill that role. And that’s irritating because it takes the entire series for him to come out of that and then it ends. We never actually get to see Will as he was supposed to be. That’s what pisses me off. So, you’re right. He’s useless.
Back to your point, I think also would have preferred to see a stronger Will. A character who is so happy all the time, the glue that holds the team together, the one they go to when they need to be built back up, and all of a sudden the only thing that makes him so angry he goes over the edge appears in front of him again? To the point he becomes unhinged and starts wilding out? That could have been interesting.
And it’s interesting because we do see a bit of what you were talking about with Will setting the standard when Damon was trashing her at the cove, before they went to beat martin. He straight forwardly, in all seriousness, tells Damon to stop. Will can feel that way about her, but no one else. Somewhere along the way, Will lost that thought. Where’d it go? I don’t know.
Anyway. What can you do?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hope I understood what you were saying and responded fairly. I know I come off as totally pro-Will Grayson, Will Grayson can do no wrong, but that's not the case. I do see the characters clearly (for the most part). Not only that, but I want them to be better. So I make it so.

Ten years | Chapter 1
Summary: It's been 10 years since I left him standing at the altar to go follow my dreams. I failed, but he didn't. He became a football player, just as he always wanted to. One of the best in Europe. And after not seeing each other for a decade, he is coming back. Declan Rice, England's captain, probably the love of my life... He's coming back home.
Author's note: Welcome to another story inspired by one of my dreams 😅 Though mine was completely different, because the one left standing at the altar was Rodri, the one who plays for City (super random), and I was running away with Ramsdale 🤷🏼‍♀️
Also, yes, that first sentence is outdated 😂 But I wrote this months ago, and editing it feels weird 😅
Hope you like it, and thank you very much for reading! 💜

"I'm sure that if it was the Queen coming, they wouldn't be making such a fuss. They even cut the main road!"
"He isn't the Queen, but he is the most famous person this town has seen since... Forever?"
"What about that time Elton John stopped Lola to ask her for directions?"
"That's what Lola says, but no one else saw him. And you know her, she is constantly mixing people. Just say that it bothers you that all this is for him. No one will blame you."
"It doesn't bother me. And people will blame me. It's been 10 years, and they still give me pitiful looks when he wins something."
"Well, you were the one who left to fulfill her dreams because you didn't want to be stuck on this town, and then..."
And then things completely turned around, and I found myself back on this town, my dreams shattered, while the one who wanted to stay was out there living his dreams and being successful at it. Highly successful in fact.
"Do you think she's coming with him?"
"Even if he didn't want to bring her, she'll find a way to come. I've never seen a bigger attention seeker than that woman."
"Jealous?"
"Me? Of that woman? Please, Claire" I scoff.
"I don't know. You always speak of her with such... Hate."
"I don't hate her. I just dislike her."
"Because you wish you were her?"
"Oh, yes, I wish I was a woman with no purpose in life beyond taking selfies, getting nails the size on my foot, and self tanning. Badly."
"Rude. And that's not what I meant, and you know it."
"Whatever. I've moved on, and so should you and everyone on this damned town."
"Hey, don't talk like that about us. You've actually learnt to love it here. You are just too stubborn and proud to admit it."
"Yeah, yeah" I say, rolling my eyes.
"If I could have your attention, please" I hear my brother Dom say. He's the one who has organized this... I want to say charade, but they call it celebration. The town now has a new football pitch and a summer camp for kids from all around the area, which is something amazing. But what isn't amazing, is that for the inauguration they've called him. Declan Rice. One of the best football players of his generation, and England's captain among many other things. Like being my ex-boyfriend and the man I left standing at the altar 10 years ago.
"Thank you everyone for coming" Dom continues. "Today it's a very special day for our little town. Not only because we get to inaugurate these amazing new installations that will hopefully help our kids follow their dreams, but also because, finally, we've managed to have him back with us. The man who was able to follow his dreams, and become a star. Please give a warm welcome to the one and only, Declan Rice!"
"Did he actually have to say that last part?" I say while everyone around me has started cheering and clapping, some eyes looking in my direction to see my reaction. Because if it hadn't been for me, Declan would have followed his dad's steps and become a doctor, and he would have never gone to London to try and get a spot at West Ham's academy as he always dreamed of. I am the reason he is where he is. Well, his talent helped a lot too, but my decision was what pushed him to do it.
"Thank you everyone" Declan says from the little stage they've built for the occasion. "You can't imagine how special it is to be here today with all of you. With my people."
That makes the crowd cheer even louder than before, and I can't help but roll my eyes. Again. After that he continues talking, thanking the mayor and Dom for everything they've done, but I stop listening. I'm just looking at him, at how damn good he looks. He's always been handsome, but as he's got older, he's gotten better and better looking. And I hate myself for finding him that attractive. I've moved on. And seeing him run a hand through his hair, should not make me feel the things I’m feeling. It should not.
"So, yeah, thank you very much everyone. Love you all" he says, giving the microphone back to Dom before they all start posing for photos.
"Can we leave now? I have to work tomorrow" I say to Claire.
"But now is when they are serving the food! And the drinks! Now it's the fun part!"
"Then stay and enjoy it. I don't mind."
"But I do mind doing it alone. Please, stay just a bit more" she says, pouting.
"Ok, fine. But just for one drink."
"Yay!" Claire says, hugging me.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
"There you are, sis" Dom says, coming to where Claire and I are seated. "I thought you would have left by now."
"I tried, but someone didn't let me" I say, nodding towards my friend.
"I'm glad she did. Because this is the adult thing to do. Especially when you keep saying you've moved on and all that."
"Don't they need you somewhere, Dom? Maybe taking more photos with him and Barbie Malibu?"
"She is really nice, you know? You should meet her."
"Speak of the devil..." Claire mutters.
"Dominic! Hey!"
"Birgit, hello. What can I do for you?"
"Well, we are having some issues with the champagne on our table, it isn't cold enough."
When I hear that, I can't help but laugh. But not a normal laugh, no. I do the ugliest laugh you could ever imagine.
"Sis, are you alright?" Dom asks.
"Yes, yes. My beer just went through the wrong way."
"Ok... Anyway, I'll see if I can do anything about the champagne."
"Thank you, Dominic. You are the best" Birgit says, batting her fake eyelashes before her eyes follow him as he disappears among the crowd. "So" she says, looking back at Claire and I. "You are her."
"What?"
"You are Dominic's sister, aren't you?"
"I am, yes."
"Which means you are her. Deccy's ex. The one who abandoned him."
"I'm sorry, how did you just call him? Deccy?"
"Is there anything wrong with it?"
"No, no" I say, trying not to laugh. Again. "It's just that I had never heard that before."
"Well, that's because I came out with the name."
"Congratulations."
"Thank you. But you know... You aren't what I expected."
"How so?"
"You worked as a model, didn't you? I expected you to look like one."
"And how are models supposed to look like?"
"Like Sasha, for example."
"Sasha Pivovarova? Luss?" I ask her.
"Who?"
"Nothing, forget about it. It's late, I should probably go back home."
"Yes, yes" Birgit says. "You have to open the town's pub tomorrow, don't you?"
"Exactly. Someone has to give breakfast to the tourists."
"Good, good. But before you go..." she says, coming closer to me and grabbing me by the arm, stabbing me with her stupid long nails. "You better stay away from him. He is mine."
"I beg your pardon?"
"You know what I mean. Stay away from Declan." And with that, she lets go of my arm, giving Claire and I a big fake smile before walking away.
"What the hell was that?" Claire asks.
"I think Barbie Malibu just threatened me."
