Peace to the #rebelreaders... for #READINGistheREVOLUTION. Peace to @onyxedition and the #blackbookstagrammers that support #blackownedbookstores. This is for the #blackbookstagram and those that plan #blackbookstoretours. We're just here to chant #MorePOWERTOTHEREADER! ✊🏾 and affirm: #BLACKPUBLISHINGPOWER is the solution. As #fREADom is first birthed in the mind... We appear here and there to help #shakeupyourshelves, Flood your timeline with #blackexcellence, And challenge the quo to put #blackauthors on the shelf. #youknowthevibes at #scribesandvibes, This is where you #findyourtribe And discover #KNOWledgeofSELF. You can catch us on a #popupbookshop promo or #shopscribesandvibes online. If nothing else, we ask: Why them Willie Lynch isms got you walking around freely with your mind imprisoned? Why they poison us with radio and television? Why the need to effeminate the Black male in tell-lie-vision depictions? Why'd that white magazine advertise Future: The Best Rapper Alive on the cover of it's May edition? Why they wanna indoctrinate the #YOUNGGIFTEDANDBLACK with bleak futures filled with addiction and prison? Why must ye be forced to #readBannedBooks while mass media is publicizing drug addiction and womanizing to our children? It's time to change the frequency! Why they wanna force feed us negative images of self so frequently? Why do they censor #BlackWriters then author laws to put our babies in prison? What do they gain from keeping your mind imprisoned? What does it mean when they say they vow to keep woke politics out of public school systems? #staywOke! and keep one eye open whenever the guys behind the eye in the sky coin phrases to signal dog whistles for Blacks. Learn to listen to what's not being said in catchphrases like "Take Our Country Back." Why do you think Critical Race Theory is under attack yet no mentions of disparities within the juvenile justice system? #FREEYOURMIND! They're pushing this BIPOC agenda to efface #blackpublishing professionals right before our face, Yet we're not having it this time. By the way, Happy #IndieBookstoreDay! This time, we'll #FREEtheMIND! -Stevie #READINGisaREVOLUTIONaryact https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc-ioBfLzwX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Almost 4 months ago, @wahidaclark and I set out to create a space in sci-fi/fantasy where BIPOC authors, and our allies could be unapologetically amplified. We called it (SF/F)or the Culture. We brought on board dope authors like @debreneebyrd @jon_dough_series @zed.amadeo and @dbbraythewriter and if your not following them you should. We know there are gatekeepers, especially in the world of literature and SFF and so @sffortheculture is meant to be siege engine, a scaling ladder, a battering ram. We are here to show the world that #blackauthorsmatter #blackstoriesmatter and #blackstorieshavepower ✊🏿 We are here to #amplifymelanatedvoices and bring the world more #blackgirlmagic and #blackboyjoy 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿 We are @sffortheculture and I am inordinately proud of what we are building. #ownvoices #letsreadownvoices #blackhistory #fantasy #scifi #SFF #Afrofuturism #StreetLit #WahidaClark #diversefantasy #diversebooks #blackpublishing #blackpublishingpower #diversityinpublishing #swordandsoul #readsoullit #blackbookstagram #bookstagram #bipocbookstagram #blackauthors #bipocauthors #supportblackauthors #buyblack #supportblackbusinesses https://www.instagram.com/p/CLcCygnAGMT/?igshid=1tt8vf69vakul

Sooo, just finished this one.
If you're looking for a nice break from the intensive binge of novels and autobiographies (which I often am) this book is a must read!
Published by #onwepress and written anonymously this collection is a celebration of women around the world, throughout time, educating us on happenings mainstream history would gladly forget.
Each persons story is an a6 page long and perfectly encapsulates the mark they've left on this world and the way we should honour their contributions!
Short and sweet, I give it 4 stars.

One of my favorites from my first book. Perceptions and personalities have so many layers. We often only show what we believe will give us acceptance. This is all a part of my journey that I believed is shared by so many. Still going and still learning me… Read how my journey began. We younger [Black] artists who create now intend to express our individual dark-skinned selves without fear or shame... We build our temples for tomorrow, strong as we know how, and we stand on top of the mountain, free within ourselves. - Langston Hughes, The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain Black artists and writers submit to our open call for art + writing from and centered upon the Black experience. This anthology is a collaboration between Genre: Urban Arts and 5 Points Art Gallery + Studios, both Black women owned organizations coming together in friendship, sisterhood, and business to curate and drop an arts anthology entitled BLACKOUT. This anthology is our temple for Black People of the African Diaspora. Create about our experiences, our happiness, our joy, our love, our growth, our hurt. We will show up here and be represented in our fullness. BLACKOUT will be released on July 2, 2021 to coincide with the This Is America Exhibition at 5 Points Art Gallery + Studios in Milwaukee, WI. This Is America is an annual exhibition featuring artists of color, demonstrating through visual art, their perspectives on what is America. The show's concept is not necessarily a projection of a pro or con stance on America, but more so a visual narration of "this is what America is/looks/feels/tastes/etc. like to me". The concept is open-ended to capture the broad, often overlooked, lived experiences, associations and identity to the country and its culture(s). Black Artists and Black creatives, this is a publication where we do what deities must— create. We stand here on the work and love of our ancestors who push us forward and also push us inward to become more fully ourselves. BLACKOUT Submission Requirements check 5ptsartgallery.com/calls/2021/blackout-art-writing-call and genreurbanarts.com/genreurbanarts/blackout. Deadline: May 9, 2021
