Birthday Belly (LeonaXReader)
I wrote this yesterday for my own birthday. I didn’t really go into this with much of a plan, this story is 99% just me freestyling and whipping out some self-indulgent nonsense involving Leona Kingscholar and his appetite. It came out to about 4000 words, which is relatively short for MY stories on here. XD Hopefully you all will enjoy it.
----------------------------------------------------
Living at the Ramshackle Dorm had, you thought, left you almost impervious to surprises. The 999 Happy Haunts who inhabited the old manor house had tried nearly every trick up their capes to spook you and shock you, and after dealing with so many dark mages for so long – facing demigods and fairy princes along the way – you didn’t think much could startle you. Today, you were going to be proven wrong. You sighed with some relief, removing your obligatory birthday sash and letting it drape over the arm-rest of the sofa as he leaned back and closed your eyes. Back in your homeworld, you had never really been much of a party person. You had never much cared for crowds, even among people you knew well; part of the joy of being one of only two (living) beings who called Ravenswood Manor home was that you were able to find privacy and peace fairly easily. However, despite not being a mage, and despite being so lonely there, your friends and the school itself had gone to a great deal of trouble to provide you with a party. You smiled wearily as you eyed the streamers and other decorations strung about your ground floor rooms. A huge banner reading “Happy Birthday…!” and followed by your name was hung over the fireplace, and piled up next to the spot where you’d installed your television and other such things was a stack of presents you had gotten from all your friends.
Ace had given you a set of playing cards and poker chips, winking as he promised to give you a chance to put them to use. Deuce, meanwhile, had been much more sensible, purchasing some cooking apparel he knew you could put to good use. Riddle Rosehearts, meanwhile, brought you some cherry tarts he and Trey had made together. Cater Diamond also appeared, and had bought a new external drive for your laptop computer. “I would have gotten you a new phone,” Cater had smiled. “But I didn’t think you needed one. Speaking of, BIRTHDAY SELFIE! COME ON OVER HERE…!” Idia hadn’t stayed for the party, but his brother Ortho had been happy to pop in. The two had pitched their cash together to buy you a new game system, along with a new game to play on it. Idia had personally sent a birthday card, as well; according to Ortho, his hands had been shaking so much trying to figure out what to write in it, he thought his brother’s fingers might fall off. All Idia had written in the card was, “Have a nice day,” probably because he had freaked out at the thought of saying anything else. Poor dear. Somebody – you weren’t sure who – had very, VERY wisely remembered to invite Malleus Draconia, who came with Silver. Silver spent most of the party sleeping, but Malleus had been kind enough to bestow a gift of his own, in the form of a leatherbound edition of The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe. Naturally, Kalim had shown up, tugging Jamil along behind him. Each had a different gift to give: Kalim had brought a VERY expensive looking carpet, done in the ornate styling of his homeland. “It’s been in my family for…um…uh…” he had paused to try and count the years on his fingers…and eventually ran out of fingers AND toes to count on. “…A very, very long time! Like…SUPER long! I thought it might look nice in your bedroom or the ballroom or something! It’s, uh…it’s not too much, is it?” Gods bless that Baby Otter. He needed so many hugs. Jamil’s gift had been much more reserved: a mancala game box, which he had presented all while trying not to blush under his black hood. Vil had stopped by for a short while; he’d only stayed briefly, claiming the “decadent atmosphere of your gloomy domicile” would mess up his hairdo. (Go figure.) However, he had kindly brought you a gift in the form of custom-made suit of clothes he had ordered from his own personal tailor: some of the finest and most formal wear you had ever seen in your life. “Now you can actually look halfway presentable, instead of resembling a half-baked potato, next time there’s a big event,” he had smiled, as if he had been doing you a tremendous favor. Well. With clothes like this, you weren’t going to argue or complain. Azul had stopped for a brief “hello and goodbye” visit; he actually wanted to stay longer – Floyd, who had been with him, seemed particularly sad he couldn’t stay and squeeze his favorite “Little Shrimp” half to death all afternoon and evening…and in his case, that phrase was probably literal – but the Mostro Lounge was open that day, and he didn’t want to leave Jade in charge of things alone for TOO long at the office. The octopus man had brought you a bracelet covered in small seashells: simple, but surprisingly sweeter than you had expected. Floyd, meanwhile…he just hugged you. “What’s a better present for Shrimpy than a nice, tight SQUEEZE from their bestest, most favorite eel-person…riiiiiiight?” The safety of your spine and lungs demanded you agree and hug Floyd back. Ruggie and Jack had been among the first to show up. The latter had brought a hastily-wrapped DVD: a movie entitled “The Wolf of Pumpkin Hollow.” “I didn’t get this because I actually care,” he had clarified, looking everywhere but at your face and scratching the back of his white-eared head. “Just…everyone else would have thought it was rude if I didn’t get you something. Not that it matters what they think! Just…didn’t want to have to put up with it.” He was such a puppy. He truly was. Not only was Ruggie one of the first to arrive, he turned out to be THE first to give you your gift: a box of doughnuts. All glazed. “My grandma used to tell me: ‘Ruggie, get people the same kinds of gifts you’d want them to get you.’ Well, I can’t think of much I want more than doughnuts!” he sang out with an innocent smile. “You just wanted to have some to eat yourself, didn’t you?” you couldn’t help but smirk. Ruggie had gasped, seemingly offended…only to eventually ask if he could have some. The four remaining doughnuts – which you had to sneak away while the hyena wasn’t looking – were now on a plate in your fridge. You’d eat them later. Others had come and gone throughout the day; none of them had gifts to bring, but they had been happy to pop in, give well-wishes, and enjoy the party for a while. Now, however, all the guests were gone; even Grim had left, as you had asked him for some alone time that night. He and the gang from Heartslabyul were going to have a sleepover as a result. Despite the smile on your face as you looked over at your gifts, there was a hint of sadness to your expression. The one person whose presence you’d been looking forward to most hadn’t come. You’d asked his dorm-mates if they knew where he was or what he was doing, but none of them told you. Most of them very clearly had no clue…except for Ruggie. You got the feeling he DID know, he just wasn’t telling. Honestly, that didn’t settle your mind much. Your smile faded completely, and you closed your eyes once more, sighing through your nose…this time with a hint of despondency. Had he forgotten it was your birthday? Was he with somebody else right now? Maybe he was sleeping somewhere, like the big, lazy kit he was…some part of you – you couldn’t tell what part – kind of hoped that was all it was. He probably wasn’t hurt or sick…if he had been you’d think Ruggie would have told you… You glanced out the window. Evening was turning into night. You huffed softly through your nostrils, and stretched a bit where you sat. The party had worn you out more than you thought. You shook your head to clear it of your more perturbing thoughts, and began to wonder if you should just get to bed early tonight… A knock came at the door, jolting you to a more attentive state. You stood up from the ouch and headed out through the hall to the foyer. You wondered who it was…had one of the guests left something behind? As you approached the door, you adjusted your pristine white suit – another obligatory item for those celebrating a birthday at Night Raven College – which must have made whoever was on the other side impatient: they knocked again. “One moment, I’m here!” you called out, and opened the door. “Who’s-?” You froze, the word “there” dying before it ever reached your larynx. The first thing your eyes took in was the familiar, dimly-glowing pair of green ones staring back at you, as well as the dark mane and leonine ears and tail that accompanied their owner. A scar was slashed across one of the two eyes. The second thing – and the one that truly made you freeze – was the ENORMOUS, bare belly that was only inches away from you. The skin was tanned and smooth and supple-looking, the organ swollen to the size of a large watermelon, and only slightly less taut. The navel looked like the center of a maelstrom, drawing your attention towards that bloated gut as it let out a deep, burbling rumble…just before a black-clad hand slapped over it, hiding it from sight. At the same time, another hand suddenly scooped itself under your chin…and you found your head being tilted up, your eyes now locking on a pair of perfect-looking, velvety lips…which then parted to reveal a gaping, red mouth, dripping with saliva and framed by two rows of pointed, pearly fangs. You barely had time to take in the view of this glistening, slimy orifice…before your ears rang and your nose crinkled as two words were burped up. Right in your face. “HAAAAPPY…BUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP-DAY!” The belch was followed by a light sigh and a chuckle as Leona Kingscholar patted his stomach proudly. It jiggled at his touch. He smirked as he took in your expression: a loopy, flushed look was on your face. You were swaying so much that if he removed his hand from under your chin at that moment, you might have just toppled over. “Hm-hm-hmmm…did you like that?” he purred, smoothly. You nodded dumbly, still smiling a loopy, dazed smile as the sound reverberated in your ears, and your nose tingled from the lingering odor of the lion’s gut gas: a strong, heady, meaty smell that twined through the pockets of your gray matter, practically putting you in a trance for several long seconds. Finally, you found your voice. “…Where have you been?” “Preparing your present,” Leona said, as if that should have been obvious, and gently nudged you back as he entered the house and swaggered past you. With every step, his hips swung, and you found your blush seemed to be permanent as you watched them rock and sway as he strutted towards the living room. You followed him as if a leash had been tied ‘round your neck, and watched as he flopped onto your couch, gut sloshing with every little motion of his form. He was dressed in his usual clothes, but his gut was so massive it caused his mustard-colored shirt to ride up, exposing his belly to the world. The lion demi growled as he reached down; his waistband was still buttoned up, and clearly it was causing him discomfort. His fingers fumbled for the belt buckle…and he frowned as he couldn’t quite get it to cooperate. “Tch. Figures,” he grumbled. “After that entrance…pain in my ass…” The familiar phrase snapped you out of your stupor, and you chuckled, rolling your eyes. You sat down next to your princely boyfriend, and shooed his hands away. He frowned, growling indignantly, but allowed you to fiddle with his buckle, and finally managed to work it off… POPK! ZZZRRRIIIP! GUHBLORLSH! Leona let out a sound between a sigh and a grunt as – the moment the buckle was released – his trouser button gave up the ghost, popping open as the zipper flew down, the sheer weight and pressure of his belly forcing them open. He sighed as his belly poured into his lap like a mass of mocha-colored dough, wobbling as it noisily burbled. “UUUUUUUURRRRRRRROOOOOOOOAAAARRRRRRRP!” he belted out. “Oof…that felt good…” You blushed bright red, helpless to do anything but nod; you were already starting to tremble at so many…APPEALING things happening all at once. Leona smirked anew as he noticed your expression, leaning back a little further against the sofa cushions as his scarred eye flashed with a superior gleam. “You didn’t think I forgot, did you?” “How much did you eat?” you asked, marveling at the size of his belly as you fingers fidgeted and twitched, looking for something to do. You suddenly felt a little parched… “Mmmmm…not enough,” Leona growled, and grinned wider, revealing his pointed teeth. “I could fit more in there, I’m sure…” He licked his lips in a sultry, almost inviting way. You couldn’t keep yourself from letting out a shaky, shuddering sound as you shivered, a mixture of warmth and cold flickering across your spine. Leona chuckled – his gut bounced with his mirth, and tilted his head back with a sigh. “Ahhhhhh…went to my favorite buffet and helped myself,” he elaborated as he gave his belly a few hearty slaps. “Pure meat, every ounce.” You nodded slowly, dumbly. Leona snorted through his nose, raising an eyebrow as he saw you openly ogle his stomach. “Hmph. Are you just gonna stare at it all night, Herbivore?” he grunted. He waited till you looked up at him before going on: “Go ahead. It’s not gonna rub itself.” Your heartbeat quickened and you smiled widely. Leona grimaced and snarled. “Oi…just rub, don’t gimme those eyes…you look like that brat back home…” You chuckled – it was hard not to giggle, honestly – and gratefully helped yourself to your “present.” Your hands quickly fell over Leona’s bloated gut as he stretched his arms over the back of the couch. You scooted closer, and quivered at the intense warmth of the half-lion’s greedy, globular gut. Your palms and fingers began to lightly run across his girth, stroking his belly, just to get a feel of the texture and temperature. His flesh was silky-smooth, making it so hard to resist just pressing your face against it and nuzzling into his belly… You did resist though. At least for the moment. Instead, your fingers began to knead and massage the belly of your beau, pressing down onto the thick soup you could feel churning away inside his bowels. You prodded experimentally, almost as if trying to distinguish each bit of food from the next…but there was no way you could. Whatever Leona had gobbled up was now little more than a uniform mush being swirled about by his strong stomach muscles. His insides warbled and rumbled, as if in response to your ministrations. Leona sighed, closing his eyes and savoring the way you massaged his distended tanker. In truth, the lazy lion didn’t need much of an excuse to stuff himself…but you didn’t care that much. Whether he did this for himself, or for you, as he claimed, the end result was the same. “Mmmmm…that’s it…keep it up,” he mumbled. “Wasn’t planning on stopping,” you said, more to yourself than him, but he snickered anyway. “Heh heh…good. Prey like you should be happy to have a chance like this,” he said, and playfully patted your cheek, causing your blush to intensify. A spike of ego shot up in you, and you purposefully pressed down harder against his stomach. It let out a HUMONGOUS groan, and Leona’s eyes widened and his cheeks ballooned…before he let out another sloppy, rumbling belch. “BUUUUUUUHHHHHHHUUUUUUUURRRRRRLLLLLLLUUUUUUP! Haaah…oi. Not so rough,” he growled, narrowing his eyes at you, tail lashing and thumping against the sofa cushions. “Sorry,” you smiled innocently. “You had so much hot air in there, it clearly had to be let out.” Leona’s eyes narrowed further. “I could turn you into dust right here and right now,” he said, warningly. “I guess you could,” you said, smoothly, and then traced a finger around the rim of his deep, dark trench of a navel. The effect was instantaneous. Leona tensed up for a second, inhaling sharply through his teeth…then sighed and relaxed, all but melting into his seat, eyes fluttering closed again as he purred louder than ever. You smirked triumphantly, as you stuck your finger into his navel and wiggled it around a bit. “Still want to turn me into dust?” you teased. Leona could only moan. He moaned even louder as you cupped one hand on the underside of his belly: the softest, warmest, most sensitive portion of his abdomen. You gently rubbed your hand against them, and traced your fingers over his sides. You could hear his toes curl in his boots; his tail you could SEE curl into a spiral shape as he bit his lip with pleasure. “I’ll take that as a no,” you observed, a dreamy sort of sigh upon your lips as you were honestly enjoying this just as much as he was, a fact you made clear you when you half-consciously murmured: “You’re so SOFT…” “Mmmm…I’ll be softer once it’s all digested,” Leona mumbled. “Vargas is probably gonna complain…think he’d pester me about that stuff if I ate ‘im?” “I think if you ate Coach Vargas, you’d just get a bellyache,” you said, not wanting to add that someone as egotistical as Leona eating someone as showboating as Vargas probably meant all the weight would to his head… …Cracks like that weren’t funny, and could get you bitten. The second part you didn’t mind as much as one might think, to be fair. …You really needed to see a shrink… Leona just scoffed, unaware of your thoughts as you continued to rub and massage his belly. You gave the side of his belly a few hearty thumps, watching the way his belly shifted and jiggled like a water balloon. His stomach groaned and churned rhythmically, squelches and squeals of liquid being compressed and stirred echoing just beneath the luscious skin of the half-lion prince. It sounded like a huge vat of semi-solid mash being pumped and processed in a factory…a sound some might have considered nauseating, but you just bit your lip, rubbing and kneading more vigorously as you heard pockets of gas being released. As you kneaded and pressed down, Leona would BELCH and BURP periodically. Each was short and low, which only made you rub his gut more vigorously. He gave you a bored sort of look as he realized what you were doing. “Didn’t get enough to drink at your party, did you, you thirsty little Herbivore?” “Not even close,” you responded, without skipping a beat. Leona rolled his eyes, and held up a finger in a “one moment” gesture. He then curled that same finger down, balling that hand into a fist…and pumped his fist against his chest once, twice, thrice…before unleashing a true wall-rattler, which flapped his lips and made him go crosseyed. “GYYYYUUUUUHHHHHEEEEERRRRRWWWOOOOAAAAARRRRRIIIIIPLK!” Leona sighed as the eruption came to an end, and snorted as you squeaked at the sound. “Happy now?” he drawled boredly. “Very,” you peeped, patting his belly thankfully. Leona rolled his eyes as he scratched the side of his gut with his leather-tipped fingers, making it slosh under your palm. You quivered. His lips quirked. “Tch. You’re such a snack,” he muttered. “It’s amazing nobody’s already gobbled you up…” “Just lucky so far, I guess,” you shrugged, and scratched his belly with your own fingers. Leona let out a non-committal rumble…then smirked a bit. “We could fix that, you know,” he purred in a slippery, sly way. You froze, and looked up at him slowly, a little confused and slightly apprehensive. Leona smiled back, eyes half-lidded; the dominant, powerful, but affectionately amused smile that always left you shivering for all the right reasons. Then, one of his his hands lifted, and cupped your cheek. He brushed a thumb against it, and you smiled gently back… …Just before that same hand slid forward, and wrapped around the back of your head. “Here,” he growled, commandingly, as he began to force you downwards. “Listen. Feel.” You didn’t have much choice, and it wasn’t as if you would disobey if you could. You surrendered easily as he eased you down against his belly, pressing your head down and holding it firmly, curling his hand so one of your was right above his navel. You felt your chest flutter as the warmth of his body was now right up against your face, and the deep, thick GRRRROOOOLLLLLLG sounds of his ever-hungry belly echoed in your ear like rolling thunder. You stayed perfectly still; time and place seemed to fade into nothingness. All that mattered was the moment: you were hypnotized by his belly, barely conscious of anything. He started speaking, but it took you a few seconds to realize what he was even saying. “…I’d you’d like it, huh?” were the first words you made out, followed by still more: “I could swallow you alive, Herbivore. You’d slither right down my throat, curl up in my stomach…and never come out. I’d just fall asleep, and let you stay there. It wouldn’t have to hurt: one big burp, and your air would be history. Then, you’d go straight to my hips…my thighs…my ass…even my belly. Every part of me you love most.” He paused, purring as his stomach let out a greedy, longing rumble. “How does that sound for your birthday, Herbivore?” he crooned. “How would you like to spend your birthday – your LAST birthday – turning into more of the body you’re so in love with. To be the snack you’re supposed to be. To spend the rest of eternity as just a part of me.” None of these were spoken as questions. You shivered and let out a whimpering sound – not necessarily one of fear, either – as you heard him lick and smack his lips. He leaned down and sniffed at you, purring in the back of his throat. “Mmmmmmm…I could make that happen. Right here. Right now.” You bit your lip; as his stomach rumbled, you closed your eyes. You could picture yourself inside of there…partially submerged in acid and bubbling goo…embraced on every side by his powerful muscles…hearing him belch with satisfaction above and around you…rubbing over you as you were steadily digestedinside of him… You took longer than most people probably would before speaking. “I know you could,” you said, very softly, then added, “Maybe someday you will.” Leona blinked…then puffed with amusement, his smile growing slightly more affectionate as he ran his fingers through your hair the way a cat might. “Not ready to make this birthday your last, huh?” You opened one eye and carefully shook your head. “If it means next year I could get one as good as this, or better, definitely not,” you responded, without skipping a beat. Leona clucked his tongue, and removed his hand, letting it rest against the back of the sofa. He chuffed as your remained where you were, despite no longer being forced down. “Kinky little morsel,” he mumbled. “Guilty,” you responded in a slightly muffled voice as you freely nuzzled his abdomen, smirking as he purred anew, clearly enjoying it. Leona chuckled, and nudged you, indicating he wanted you to look up at him again. You did…and watched as his cheeks ballooned with gas as he caught a particularly low, gassy burp in his mouth… “HHHHRRRRMMMMLLLLRRRRPH…phoosh.” …Before blowing the residual fumes into your face, almost like a kiss. You nearly fainted dead away. Leona grinned. “Good?” was all he said. “Marry me now.” Leona barked out a laugh and gave your hair a ruffling, then shut his eyes and reclined peacefully once more. “Get back to rubbing, meat,” he growled. “Or I might just swallow you whether you want it or not. Don’t let your gift go to waste.” You smiled and eagerly got back to work, kissing and nuzzling and rubbing his belly worshipfully, without any sign of restraint. Leona’s purring heightened as you pampered his plumpened middle. “Mmmmm…happy birthday, Herbivore,” he growled. “Maybe next year, I’ll add you to my hips…” At the rate things were going…that was starting to sound like a promise more than anything else. If so…you could hardly wait till next year.

☾.:°∗★.:☆:.★∗°:.☽
contrary to popular belief, bokuto thinks. he thinks a lot. granted, a lot of his thoughts are devoid of any deep meaning, like the possibility of taming a wild owl and keeping it as a pet, or the question of whether he should get two or three meat buns after practice.
bokuto thinks a lot. he knows this. his mind gets very cluttered sometimes with various random topics. that’s why when his mind started becoming a cohesive conversation of one solid topic, something was wrong. very wrong.
he started thinking about you. a lot.
when he first realized it, he figured he should look into it--find out what caused him to have his mind flooded with thoughts of you, your smile, your eyes, your hair, your hands, your voice and nose and lips--
then he realized that he already knew very well why he thought of you so often.
almost comically, he smiled to himself and thought, “well, i guess that’s that!” and resolved to never approach the subject again. confident as he could be on the court, bokuto was sure that if he ever tried to take action about his feelings, the result was sure to be disastrous. it was best to stay away from any fantasies of his.
that was hard to do, though, when you seemed to occupy both his thoughts and his day-to-day life.
you were in the same class--that was just his luck--and while you weren’t an official manager you had a tendency to stop by practice and watch the boys play while chatting with yukie and kaori until it was time to go home.
(he also often walked you to the train stop. fate really made the stars align when he didn't want them to align.)
though, he had to owe it to fate for allowing your seats to be on separate sides of class. at the very least, he had that relief from the constant pressure he applied on himself absentmindedly whenever he was in your presence.
during lunch, bokuto sped out of the classroom door and in a direction away from the cafeteria. you seemed to notice this quite quickly and darted to chase after him.
bokuto felt a warm, firm hand on his shoulder and the distant scent of peppermint. he cursed himself for not walking fast enough and wondered if he could jump up with enough fervor to break through the ceiling.
“hey,” you were smiling at him as you sidled up next to him. he was thankful he had your real expression right in front of him--the gentle image in his mind was fading by the minute and he appreciated the refresher. “where’re you going? i thought we were still eating lunch together?”
right. lunch. eating. food. the empty feeling in bokuto’s stomach reminded him of the fact he’d skipped breakfast after thinking so hard about his feelings and what to do with them that too much time slipped away to let him eat something properly.
“oh, yeah!” he forced a smile--”forced” wasn’t really the right term though, because with you everything flowed so naturally and so easily that he never had to force himself to do something.
“i was actually planning on practicing a bit instead of going to the cafeteria.” your expression fell the slightest bit and he scolded himself internally for being the cause of even the mildest discomfort of yours. “i’m really sorry for not telling you! really sorry! i should’ve texted you or something. i’m sorry! but i’ll make it up to you if--”
“bo!” your lightened expression was back and he, cheesily, melted at the sight. “it’s fine! i’m not angry at you. well, at least not for that. i’m just worried that you’re not eating lunch.”
uh oh. his stomach didn’t feel that great. it felt like there were a bunch of wild, frantic insects in there that pushed and pulled at the tissue in an attempt to get out. he thought he needed to vomit.
it was nice that you were worrying about him. you did that a lot. the reminder only made him feel lightheaded and briefly convinced that maybe it wasn’t a crush and actually just a really bad, persistent stomach flu that only flared up in the presence of the girl of his dreams.
he spoke through a smile that he hadn’t even noticed appeared on his face so brightly. “it’s really sweet that you’re worried.” his words were hazy and lovestruck. midway through the interaction he stopped putting so much effort in hiding his adoration for you. he figured maybe you’d appreciate it one way or another, even if it was just to make fun of him in your head. “but i’m fine! no worries! i’ll make sure to eat when i get home, promise.”
you gave him a nod, “promise,” and a quick wave and then you were off to the cafeteria. to eat lunch. would you be alone? when you both ate lunch together you didn’t really hang out with anyone else--as much as bokuto’s teammates offered to let you sit at their table, you were both perfectly content with just sitting in the presence of each other, alone.
dreamily, his grin persisted on his face and his eyes grew glittery and unfocused before his lips dropped at another realization.
you’d be alone. would you feel lonely? would you be mad at him for making you feel that way?
he made it to the gym already by the time he realized that. maybe this time alone would let him settle his fluttering heart and compose himself so he could be conditioned to tolerate your presence more often without drifting away into a bunch of domestic daydreams.
a sick feeling in his stomach persisted all through his spiking practice. it was less pleasant than before. his body temperature grew both from unease and the physical exertion caused by extra practice.
maybe he really was sick. in one way or another.
---
you showed up to the gym fifteen minutes into bokuto’s practice. the boys were still slowly getting ready, so you took the time to approach bokuto and hand him a small and weighty paper bag.
“meat buns,” you told him, extending the package in his directions. “it’s not good to skip meals just to practice. you still have to eat!” despite the scolding tone, your face remained playful and taut in a smile. bokuto wondered if your cheeks every became sore from grinning all the time. as much as he didn’t want you in pain, he was willing to give you all the face massages you wanted as long as it kept you smiling at him so often. did face massages exist? were they a thing? he’d study the art of massage for you and develop a technique, whatever was necessary.
“y… yeah…!” he responded dumbly. his was certain his face was unhealthily red as his body instinctively moved to wrap you in his arms.
hugs were typical between you two. it wouldn’t be weird, right? oh well. too late to think about it, since you were already embraced in the warmth of his arms.
“are you alright?” your voice came out muffled and gentle from the depths of his embrace and his heart fluttered at the way your voice rumbled through his chest. “you feel kinda warm.”
he was warm? he thought you were way warmer than him. though maybe he meant that in a less physical sense. he couldn’t tell the difference anymore--not with you.
“yeah, just kind of tired.” before he could ridicule himself at the fact that tired had no correlation to having a full-body flush, he continued to reassure you, “but i’m fine! i’ll make sure to take care of myself.”
he felt your smile appear against the fabric of his shirt and wondered if it was weird that he was willing to die in that position.
after a moment of relaxing in each other’s grasps (and ignoring the distant gossip of his teammates), bokuto pulled back with a grin, a nod, and the longing to press a kiss against your forehead.
practice was good. it felt easier than it had been last week, though he probably owed that to the visit you paid him in the afternoon. he came to the conclusion that running from you just to “figure out his feelings” was stupid. he knew what he felt. he didn’t have a single clue what to do about it specifically, but thought that was fine. it felt good to be around you--he’d be stupid to let opportunities to spend time with you pass him by.
---
apparently you sat with akaashi the day before, when bokuto was away from the cafeteria during lunch. he figured that out when he went to sit at your usual table only to find you accompanied by his setter.
“bo! hey!” you greeted, pausing the ongoing conversation with akaashi. “i forgot to tell you, but akaashi’s sitting with us today. he sat with me yesterday so i just figured the three of us could start eating lunch together.”
bokuto didn’t really think much of it. if anything, he was thankful that akaashi had kept you company and alleviated the ace of some of his lingering guilt from the day before.
he had no qualms with having the duo become a trio for the period, and found himself enjoying the conversation floating between all of you.
well. sort of. he didn’t really get to talk much with how exuberant you seemed to be with akaashi. it was nice to see you so happy and active with his friend, and the sight of your smile was enough to distract him from the unpleasant simmering of his stomach acid.
for the most part. he had to excuse himself to the bathroom in the middle of class to splash cold water on his face and try to subdue the uncomfortable heat that was certainly not reminiscent of his previous warming adoration for you.
despite how many times he urged you to go home early, you assured bokuto that you were fine with staying for his practice the whole time, ending your defense with a, “i really wanted to walk with you today!” and a smile that made him fall into your unintentional trap.
true to your word, you walked to the train station with bokuto, boarding the same train. conversation was light and typical, but his leg kept bouncing and heart urged for him to say something before everything imploded under the pressure of his emotions.
“are you dating akaashi?” great going, bokuto thought, the most discreet, subtle thing i could’ve possibly asked.
you blinked, and turned your gaze from your phone screen to him. you huffed out a lighthearted laugh and nudged your elbow into his ribs playfully. “of course not. we only really started talking yesterday. i wouldn’t date someone i barely know.”
bokuto’s mind went on overdrive, the news coming as a deep relief for him and making him ignore the blaring reminders of potential consequences that flashed bright and red in his head. his mouth spilled words before he could logically think of what to say and figured letting his heart guide, as always, wouldn’t be a terrible choice.
“so you’d date someone you do know? a lot? like a friend?”
once again, his words weren’t discreet in the slightest, but he had tunnel vision pointed in your direction, covering you in a sheer golden light like you were the only thing that mattered in that moment--because you were. no need for detailed thought processes or pros and cons lists that he’d briefly considered making (“that’s what professionals do, right?”).
your smile persisted, and he took that as a good enough sign to continue with his mindless stammering.
though your voice interrupted his next outward train of thought, and he listened with the focus of a child watching a television screen.
“what about this saturday? at noon? at that sweet little cafe near my house?”
bokuto blinked. processed your words with an intensity unmatched, even compared to those times he had to write those stupid DBQs and analyze sources that were way too complicated for him to handle very well.
you words were much easier for him to understand than college-level essays. much lighter, much sweeter, like agave syrup and orange zest.
“yeah. this saturday. that’s… great.”
bokuto wondered if it was possible to develop sudden onset asthma as you slid closer to his form, side pressed up against his in a way that felt much more meaningful than any casual touches from before. he lost his breath--felt like he dropped it--as you gave him a smile and let your hand casually fall against his.
(he walked you all the way home, which he didn’t usually do, but today wasn’t really usual. you asked if you could kiss him, and in a fit of overwhelming emotions he blurted out “i thought i was supposed to do that?!” only for his words to be muffled by your lips on his. bokuto’s mind went silent for the first time in a long time, only filled with a gentle buzz and glimmering stars that made him feel warm and dizzy.)

Road to SSS 7 Event Summary: The Aurora Prince! From the north with love.
(Or at least as much as I know with the card stories I have scouted.)
Tumblr media
So by coincidence (or “coincidence”) a lot of the boys are headed to the northern island of Hokkaido.
Leo is visiting his hometown of Sapporo. Minato has a date with seaweed. Over the Rainbow has a concert in Abashiri. Joji and The Shuffle are headed to a non-specific event. Shin is on vacation with his family.
Sensing Shin’s whereabouts, Louis quickly comes up with the first excuse he can think of in order to get himself to Hokkaido, which means telling Jin that he wants to help out with Joji’s event. Although Jin reluctantly agrees, somehow Louis boards the wrong plane and ends up in Kyoto. Not sure how that worked out (it’s in his SR story) but he ends up missing the event. (Although whether he actually intended to show up at all is questionable.)
Joji is elated that he gets to hog all the attention to himself at the event without Louis, and gleefully take the stage to find the audience is... empty. It’s been cancelled.
However, despite this, one lone fan happened to show up anyway hoping to see Joji. So Joji decides to give her a special show. Impressed with how Joji treats his fan, for once Ace doesn’t mind signing for him.
(I think this is maybe... the first heartwarming scene with Joji that has ever happened.....)
Up in the northern coast of Rausu somewhere Minato has decided farming for seaweed is the best way to train for the duo tournament. When all of a sudden, who should show up but Kouji. The two stand on a cold beach in northern Hokkaido as Kouji gleefully rambles on and on about seaweed when suddenly out of the blue (or rather because of perceived inferior knowledge of seaweed) Minato blurts out that he doesn’t think he’s worthy of being Kouji’s partner. But Kouji quickly assures him that he didn’t agree to be Minato’s partner just because Minato asked him, but because he himself wanted to be with Minato.  Minato regains his confidence.
Meanwhile Hiro and Kazuki are visiting Mashu lake where they use a prism show to battle a fog monster (....honestly your guess is as good as mine.......) and Hiro suddenly realizes he had a lot of fun battling with Kazuki just then.
Leo’s goal in coming to Hokkaido is to clear his head and take lots of beautiful pictures to show his friends. He’s been feeling down lately since Yukinojo is busy training with Kakeru, and he’s still the only one who wants to be in the tournament but hasn’t been able to find a partner. But Leo has decided that even if he’s still feeling sad and conflicted on the inside, he’s going to stay positive... at least on the outside.
That works for a while until he happens to see Shin and Louis on their Hokkaido date (Louis does eventually make it to Hokkaido somehow, where he “coincidentally” runs into Shin) and all of a sudden all of Leo’s loneliness just comes rushing back. Again, his smile crumbles.
But this doesn’t last for long, as it just happens to be this exact moment (by actual coincidence) that he’s spotted by a particular character: Revontulet Nikkanen! The mysterious foreigner that Leo helped find his way in Kyoto in the last event. He’s found himself lost again. Both recognize each other and realize that neither had learned the other’s name. After a bit of back and forth, Nikkanen introduces himself and asks to be called by his first name as a symbol of closeness. When Leo can’t quite handle that they eventually agree on “Nikkanen-kun” and Nikkanen calls him “Saionji-kun” to match.
(Note: In the game, above the dialogue box usually both the first and last name of every character is always shown. But not Revontulet Nikkanen. He’s just “Nikkanen”. Even the dialogue box can’t handle it.)
Nikkanen and Leo visit various tourist spots in Sapporo. Nikkanen is dazzled by how Leo seems to know everything, but Leo explains Sapporo is his hometown. Leo suddenly realizes that since he’s been spending time with Nikkanen, he’s been smiling again and the gloomy mood he was in only a few hours ago has completely evaporated.
After they start talking about prism shows (which Nikkanen has been interested in since he saw them in Kyoto), Leo invites Nikkanen to a skating rink where he shows him a prism jump. Nikkanen is entranced. Leo offers to teach him and to Leo’s complete shock Nikkanen is able to perform a prism jump on his first try. Just then they notice the KIZUNA BEAT CLIMAX day 1 competition playing on TV. Leo hadn’t even realized it was going on in Sapporo.
All Leo does is casually remark that it seems they are still accepting new entries, but that’s all it takes to make up Nikkanen’s mind. Without any sort of prior consultation he’s already decided: Leo is his partner and they are entering tomorrow.
Nikkanen thinks he must have said something terrible in Japanese when Leo burst into tears, but Leo explains he’s actually overjoyed and happily agrees.
They arrive at the competition the next day in the costumes Leo hurriedly made the night before. Shin, Louis, Minato, Kouji, Hiro, and Kazuki are all both shocked to see Leo (as they had no idea he’d be entering), and thoroughly impressed with the pair’s show. Louis sees the prism sparkle in them. Joji wishes he could have a cute partner like Leo.
Despite only learning how to perform a prism show yesterday, this is no handicap for Nikkanen and the two win the Sapporo KIZUNA BEAT CLIMAX. Leo and Nikkanen exclaim how happy they are to have become partners.
Joji catches a cold and has fever dreams about dating Leo.
The end.
Mysteries: Joji acts like he’s already familiar with Leo when he sees him at the tournament, but where they met before I don’t know. It’s possible they met in the last event but I missed it.
Nikkanen says something about how he wants to enjoy the competition before going back to Finland, but I’m not sure if he’s actually going back to Finland really soon and that’s it or if he’s sticking around for the finals or what. It does seem like he may join Edel Rose in the end like the twins.
Whether Shin’s parents were just a few seats over or not when Louis was trying to hold Shin’s hand at the duo tournament.
Uhh.... fog monsters....?

Shamelessly stolen from @notfinlandjosswhedon because I have time to kill
Do you ever sit with your legs open? Not much anymore, but sometimes when I’m alone.
Have you ever been offered drugs on the street? Been asked for, many times. Offered, no.
What is one place you have been to and hated? Any place where the temperature reaches 30 degrees, really.
Have you ever seen a jellyfish? Not in person!
What’s your favourite kind of soup? The soy broth that they make at the ramen shop near my place :D
Do you ever put bread in your soup? Like dipping? Yeah. Not, like, dropping it straight in.
Is there anything in the USB key slots in your computer/laptop? Um, let’s have a look. Mouse, keyboard, external HD, microphone, and 360 controller. I actually thought there’d be more.
What advertisements are on your screen at the moment? I’m going to try out Star Wars: The Old Republic today, so that’s downloading now, and the launcher has some ads for premium content on it.
Do you ever get a really itchy nose when you’re unable to scratch it? Way too often.
Has anyone ever randomly licked your face? Dogs, and Ash, although that was probably in retaliation considering I licked their face earlier that evening ^^:
When was the last time you bought a book? Not too long ago? I think I picked up an ebook recently. But an actual, physical book? Fuck, I have no idea.
Are you upstairs or downstairs at the minute? I am on the one and only floor that my unit has.
Have you ever been asked for directions? I get asked every now and then, yeah. Last time I was pulled up a a traffic light and a woman on the street approached my car and asked which way to the shops.
Are there any farm animals near you? There are plenty on the edges of town. Like, within a few km for sure.
Are there any lakes near you? Nah, the closest would be Wivenhoe Dam and that’s like an hour and a half away.
Was there ever a time when you felt absolutely terrified? Yeah, it happens sometimes.
If so, why? Existential horror and anxiety. It’s veeeeery rarely from a tangible source. Oh, and my memory loss is pretty fucking scary too.
Have you ever been in your local newspaper? lmao nah
Have you ever called your mother ma or mammy? I just call her “Mum”.
Can you imitate any other accent? I’m really bad with accents, but if you have no idea what an Irish accent sounds like then I might be able to fool you. Oh and if I just speak English using Japanese sounds and form then I can probably do what passes as a Japanese accent.
What is your funniest memory of the 6th contact in your phone? It’s one of my D&D party. Our funniest memory – which happened during a game, naturally – would be either the time she tried to get the party druid to sling her over a high wall and onto a room, or she led the group in playing Lute Hero at a pub.
Were you ever chased by an animal? … Huh, I don’t actually think so.
Are you single/or taken? I resent the binary implications of this question, haha. I am in a relationship, and simultaneously on the market.
^Are you happy with that? Of course ^_^
Do you make the first move or do you prefer it the other way around? Depends on the situation! I mean, I’ve only ever had one other person make the first move, so usually I have to take the lead, but I’m fine with that. Still, it would be nice to be hit on every now and then.
What is the most painful thing you’ve experienced? The time I jumped a fence on a job site and turned my ankle. My boss threatened me not to report it for worker’s comp and just stay home while he paid me, because he was a skinflint and didn’t want his insurance premiums to go up. The month off was excruciating, and yet I still ended up being pressured into going back to work long before I was ready My ankle is still quite weak to this day. And I have CPTSD from that god damned job lmao
Do you hug someone whenever you see them? If I know they’re comfortable with it. If not, I’ll ask them first.
When was the last time you bled? What happened? I squeezed a pimple a few days ago. It emptied nicely, and then blood came out afterwards of course, so I guess that counts as bleeding.
When you look behind you what catches your attention the most? The sun coming through a crack in the curtains. Today is going to be disgustingly hot. :(
Have you ever had a controlling boyfriend/girlfriend? No. I think I’ve been that, though, back in my very first relationship :( How many true heart breaks have you had in your lifetime? A pretty rough breakup I had about a year and a half ago. Learned some solid life lessons from that one, haha. Who last grabbed your ass? Ash, I’m pretty sure.
Do you have any gay family members? More than half my siblings are queer. It’s just that I’m the only one who’s publicly out, so nobody knows about any of them except me. I guess I don’t mind pulling that attention, but it’s lonely without their solidarity. Where did you get the shirt you are wearing? Just target , for a costume party. I painted the Wonder Woman logo on the front myself, because a bottle of fabric paint and a cheap shirt were cheaper than trying to find an actual license top in the style and size I needed. Do you feel like everything is falling apart around you? They is literally life for me. Everything is always falling apart. The only was to survive is to stay vigilant and rebuild as fast as things crumble, while simultaneously trying to support what is still currently stable so it doesn’t collapse too. Was your first kiss romantic? Yeah, I guess. In hindsight I cringe. But at the time I guess it was. Do you know anybody whose last name is a color? The person I’m stealing this from. Half of her last name is a colour. What are you most likely to go to jail for? Probably for being queer in a place that doesn’t allow it Do you ever feel like life is going by too fast? Fast, yeah, but not too fast. I can’t wait til I’m older. Who was the last person to sleep over at your house? Sage, and they brought their beautiful dog too ^_^ Is there someone that always intimidates you? I think so, though tbh I can’t really remember right now. Have you ever liked anyone that was in a relationship with someone else? I’ve dated multiple people who were in relationships at the time. I’m dating one right now. Would you ever get a boob job? At this rate I don’t think I’ll need to. My family’s genes are finally coming through for me :O Did your last relationship end because of you or the other person? I’m not entirely sure I understand the phrasing of this question, but I broke up with him, because I could not tolerate a certain thing he did. Do you ever ignore texts from some people? If I’m in a bad headspace and can’t answer, then sometimes I delay answering til I’m ready. Have you ever tried to break up anyone because YOU liked the guy/girl? Why would anyone ever do that when polyamory exists? That’s so petty and awful :( When is the last time you felt left out? Yesterday. Not going into detail. When was the last time you flirted with someone? Yesterday, I think. But I flirt with people on most days. I flirt with practically everyone. What would you think if you found out your ex was gay? Most of my exes are queer. That’s, like, kinda necessary considering that I am queer. As for my one straight ex, I’d be surprised as hell but also glad he was doing what made him happy. Would you ever take someone back if you found out they cheated on you? Nope. Anyone who felt they needed to cheat, while dating my polyamorous self, is clearly not someone who I need in my life.
What does your last text message say? “Haha, well you can always try it on my floors! I shall keep you updated.” A friend of mine is trying a new mop. We are exciting people. What colour is your hair right now? Brown. Do people ever compliment your eyes? Actually, yeah. Apparently they’re my best physical feature. Do people ever tell you that you’re funny? Sometimes, yeah. Would you be upset if you caught your boyfriend looking at porn? I would send him more. How many people has your best friend had sex with? Zero, I’m pretty sure. What’s the last song you listened to? I was going through old music and I think the last one I played was Hats Off To The Bull by Chevelle. Who’s the last person that hung up on you? Not a clue. Four days from now, will you have sex? Four days, four weeks, for months – not happening unless something drastic changes in my life. (grey ace yo) Do you look intimidating? I have been told that I do. What does your second to last text say? “Behold, my floors will SPARKLE!” What makes you laugh? People being people. What were/are you most looking forward to today? When the sun goes down and it starts to get cooler. How is your hair? Desperately in need of a trip. The split ends are running rampant. When was the last time you had a conversation with an ex? A couple of days ago. Are you worried about anything right now? It would be easier to list the things I’m not worried about. My life is one long series of worries and anxieties. Living in poverty is great. How do you think tomorrow will be? Exactly the same as today. Is there a guy who knows everything or almost everything about you? Yeah, Seb knows a fair bit about me. If you could pack your bags right now and were given a plane ticket, where do you go? Canada, to visit @aelwen. How far away are you from the person you have feelings for? "have feelings for” is such a VAGUE way of putting it, haha. But there’s a cutie I know who lives roughly 13,500km away from me. Your last ex calls wanting to hangout, what do you say? “Yeah, sure, though you’ll have to travel to see me cause I am not travelling all the way to Brisbane on this notice.” Where were you at 2 this morning? Watching Stranger Things 2 with Ash. Only the first ep, though, and then I passed the fuck out. Have you ever kissed anyone who’s name started with a K? … huh, I don’t think so! Have you accidentally sent a text to the wrong person? Occasionally, haha. Last time you were TOTALLY happy? A few weeks ago, I was having a really bad day. Ash took me to get bubble tea and Japanese. I nearly cried with gratitude. Could you go the rest of your life without drinking alcohol? I could but I’m not going to. Is there anything currently hurting on your body? Yes. A lot. Ever kissed someone with green eyes? Ash has green eyes ^_^ When you are home alone, do you still close the door when you shower? Yeah, cause it keeps all the warmth in. Are you mad at anyone right now? Nah. Do you like your music loud or at a reasonable level? Depends. If I’m in the mood for it, loud can be good. But usually I need to to be quieter. Loud noises fuck me up. Have you held hands with anyone in the past 30 hours? Multiple times ^_^ How often do you sleep in? Every day. It’s the only way I get anywhere near a reasonable amount of sleep. Will you be in a relationship next month? I don’t see why not. Do you stay up later than ten o’clock on a week night? Always. Who’s the last person you told a secret to? Hard to say. I am kind of an open book about myself. Do you think someone is thinking about you right now? Doubt it. Would you rather have big or small dogs? Medium dogs! Will you cry tonight? Possibly. Depends on how badly my brain fucks me ^^; Do you have respect for people even if you don’t like them? Depends on why I don’t like them. What’s one fruit you love in drinks? Lemon goes well with a lot of things. Have you ever tried wine? Yeah. Not a huge fan, but sometimes it can be nice. In your life, do you plan on visiting other countries? Eyyyup. At the very least I want to visit Canada, Japan, and NZ. Is there an ex you want to make up with? If my second-to-last ex came along, apologised for everything, and showed that she was sincerely trying to be a better person, I’d accept that.
Does cuddling freak you out? I freak out unless I’m cuddling (okay not really but you get the idea) How much time do you take to get ready in the morning? Depends on how much prep I did the night before. I usually take between half an hour to an hour, though. Do you love where you live? Yeah, it’s okay. :) Will your next kiss be drunk or sober? Sober. Ash will wake up soon, come into my room, and I’ll kiss them. Do you wear high heels everyday? Nope, I rarely wear heels at all. Are you an aunt or an uncle? Yes, I have a niece! Were you texting someone right before you fell asleep last night? Yeah, a couple of people. Did you have any unread text messages when you woke up today? How many? A couple of messages from the group chat, and a few from Chloe. Are you happy? With myself, yes, more than ever. With the way I’m treated because of who I am? Absolutely not. Are you an alcoholic? Nah, I don’t drink much. Can you go a day without thinking about the person that’s on your mind now? I assume that "the person that’s on your mind now” means “the person you’re most attracted to right now”? Cnsidering we talk almost every day, I guess the answer is no. Could you go the rest of your life without a cigarette? Yes. Does anyone know every little detail about you? Not really, not even partners or exes. I mean lots of people knows lots of little details, but they’re just the ones I wear visibly.
What’s one thing you really want right now? A steady income. As it is, I have to choose between paying bills and buying medicine. Who was the last person you took a picture with? I think it was @aturinfortheworse, at Riverfire. Did anything “cute” happen today? lmao no Are you wearing shoes right now? Nope. Have you ever just laid outside and looked at the stars? Yeah, it’s nice when I go out of town to do it. Are you currently wanting any piercings or tattoos? Yes! Mostly tattoos at this point. I already have a ton of piercings and can only thinks of a couple more that I want. Do you smile everyday? Um, yeah, I suppose. Who are you more like, mom or dad? I look more like my mum, and have a personality that’s kind of a mix. Could you date someone shorter than you? That is, indeed, what I Am currently doing. Where do you wish you were right now? Somewhere that wasn’t fucking 30 degrees Have a crazy side? *snerk* Something you do a lot? I probably game way too much.
What is your natural hair color? Brown How many people have you kissed? I count 12, but I’m like 99% certain I’ve missed some people.
Ever kissed someone you weren’t dating at the time? Most of them. Ever kissed someone you’d met less than an hour before? Sure have. Were any of them in relationships with someone else at the time? Helloooooo. Polyamorous. How old was the oldest person you’ve kissed? 35. How young was the youngest person you’ve kissed? 15. I should clarify that I was 16 at the time. Since her, I've only kissed people who were older than me. Ever been kissed by a legal adult when you were a minor (or vise-versa)? No. Ever been walked in on while you were making out with someone? Yes, and then he joined me with kissing her. It was a good time lmao Weirdest place you’ve kissed someone? (geographically, not physically) I can’t really think of anywhere. I mean, there was that access corridor through the inner city shops in Toowoomba, where I got pushed up against a wall and made a peace sign at the dude who was staring like 8O from outside the glass doors? But even that wasn’t really, like, weird. Ever kissed someone and had someone else get really mad about it? i mean there was the (multiple) time(s) i caused a couple to break up by showing one of them what a good relationship could actually be like, does that count Ever stopped kissing someone because they had bad breath? Eyyyup. I can’t stand morning breath kisses. They taste awful D: Ever not known the name of someone you kissed? I can’t remember the names of four out of those twelve people. Ever kissed someone on a dare/as part of a game? Sure have. Kissed someone you didn’t really like just to make someone else jealous? Nope. Ever had a really horrible kissing experience? haven’t we all Ever been called a bad kisser? On the contrary ^_^ Ever called someone else a bad kisser? I don’t think so. Where’s the most public place you’ve ever made out with someone? Probably at the shops or something similar. Where’s the most private place you’ve ever made out with someone? Bedroom I guess. Ever thought of someone else while you were kissing someone? What about the person I’m kissing, and someone else, at the same time? Do you usually kiss on the first date? Sometimes. If I’m definitely attracted to the person, and know they seem to have positive feelings as well, I’ll ask to end the date with a small kiss. It makes my intentions and interest unequivocally clear.

(Haikyuu) The Cat’s Smile and the Girl’s Tears (Kuroo x Reader) - Part 3
You dragged yourself into the station the next day, your endurance stretched to its limits. You sank into the chair at your chaotic desk with a sigh and closed your eyes. A second later, an enticing cinnamon aroma filled the air. You opened one eye to the glorious sight of a coffee cup.
“You look like you got run over by a train. Slowly. Twice.” Iwaizumi didn’t sound at all sympathetic, but then he never did.
“Morning to you too, Hajime.” You took a long sip of the dark liquid and nearly moaned in relief. “I’ll forgive you for pointing out how terrible I look since you brought the elixir of life.”
He perched on the edge of your desk and folded his arms. “You’re welcome. How are you feeling after…?”
Your jaw clenched at the reference to the abrupt dissolution of your engagement. There was no point hiding anything from him, he’d known you for years now. You looked up into his face, locking your stare with his steady gaze. “I still want to gently change the shape of his face, if that’s what you mean.”
He glowered, barely restraining his own violent tendencies. “You know that’s not what I meant.”
You swirled the dregs of the coffee, contemplating the wreck that your life had become. “I’m managing. That’s all I can do. If I sit down and think about it, I’ll cry my heart out and it won’t help anyone. Maybe if we solve this case soon, I can use your shoulder as a prop for my dejected self.”
Iwaizumi regarded you for a heartbeat longer. He patted your arm and spoke gruffly. “I won’t let you use me as a mop, but I can always drag Oikawa out for you instead.”
You gave your partner a tired yet grateful smile. “You’re a pillar of support, my friend.”
Whatever sardonic reply he was going to make was cut off as a someone approached, his slim frame vibrating with nervous energy. You and Iwaizumi stared, baffled, as the young man executed a perfect salute, sending his mop of shiny black hair flying. “Officer Kageyama Tobio, reporting for duty!”
Realization dawned. “Oh. You’re the new rookie they assigned to us.” You took in his sharp blue eyes, wide with hope. “At ease, soldier. Whose nerves did you get on to get this as your first assignment?”
“Are you sure it isn’t a punishment for us?” Iwaizumi muttered under his breath. You elbowed him in the ribs.
“I- erm- I’m not sure what you mean, Sergeant.” Kageyama blinked in confusion.
You tilted your head back in brief prayer. “Sorry, Kageyama-kun, we’re just…Never mind. This is Iwaizumi Hajime, he’s a fairly nice guy, just don’t let him goad you into a drinking competition. I’m ____.”
Your partner jabbed a thumb at you. “She’s not a fully functioning human being in the morning, but don’t worry. She doesn’t actually eat people.”
You rolled your eyes. “One cup of coffee does not give you diplomatic immunity, Hajime.”
Kageyama’s eyes jumped back and forth between you both, unsure what to make of this. You took pity on him and smiled. “What do you know about the case- well cases – that we’re investigating?”
He pursed his lips. “Only the bare minimum, Sergeant. Six women have been found dead, different C.O.Ds each time, each ten days apart. The only link between the murders is that they all had playing cards with the word Alice written on them, found at the scene. Oh, and all the victims were dressed up as Alice from the books.”
Iwaizumi tapped a yellow binder. “The first victim was Sasaki Megumi. A restaurant owner in her late 20s. She went missing after a party. They found her a couple of days later when a couple was walking through the woods.”
You slid out a photo from the file. “More precisely, the woman in the pair looked up when she felt something drip onto her face. Sasaki had been torn apart and scattered everywhere.”
Kageyama’s face went pale at the sight of a head impaled on a branch, mouth wide in an eternal scream. To his credit, he didn’t look away. “Is that a playing card in her mouth?”
“Yes, the Jack of Spades. Sasaki seems to be the only one without the Alice costume.” You turned thoughtful. “Taken together with the frenzied mode of killing, it makes me think it was a crime of passion. The perpetrator was likely in a fit of rage.”
Iwaizumi picked up the thread and continued, expression grim. “The next one was Kai Sakura, a university student. Similar levels of brutality, but there’s evidence of pre-meditation. Her parents had the whole town looking for her for days. Then they found her in a shallow grave, heavily mutilated.”
Kageyama’s jaw clenched at the next photo. “There’s- there’s a crown. Stitched onto her head.”
You felt the darkness creeping back around the edges of your vision. The pain and terror frozen into her rag-doll face haunted your waking moments relentlessly. Your hand tightened around the paper cup. “It might have something to do with the Queen of Clubs card she had. Anyway, the killer is clearly getting cocky now. That’s why he made a slip.”
The rookie cop bent over to look at the grainy video footage Iwaizumi pulled up. “Where is this from?”
“The third victim’s apartment. Yamane Akemi was a part-time singer in a band. Sang at a small bar in the evenings. Worked at the local konbini during day. Had a sweet, soft-spoken personality by all accounts.” You put a soothing hand on his shoulder as Iwaizumi’s voice became rough. “In a show of real arrogance, the killer abducted her from her apartment, ripped her throat out and left her body slumped on a table for the bar-owner to find.  She had a Diamond King in her hand. Turns out being  that ballsy was a bad idea, because a surveillance camera caught him leaving the apartment, though his face is hidden.”
Kageyama swallowed, fear turning his eyes glassy. “A-and the next one?”
“The next two,” you corrected gently, “were twins. Oshiro Hina and Hana. They ran a law firm together. C.O.D was poisoning – we found a bottle saying “Drink Me” and a cake with “Eat Me” iced on it. Probably the least violent of the killings, if you can say that about murder. They had half of a card each, the Ace of Hearts.”
“The one we found four days ago,” sighed Iwaizumi, “was Ueda Yukiko, a thirty-something nurse. Her co-worker became worried when she didn’t show up to work. When the neighbourhood police got into her apartment, her five-year old son was sitting by the bathtub, scared to death. Her body was floating in the water, and her hands had been cut off. Her card was a Two of Spades.”
Kageyama flinched a little when he looked into your face. He didn’t know how far the horrors went, how utterly bleak your soul had become over the last two months. You had to push down the memory of a child who might never speak again. It wouldn’t help him to linger on your own feelings. You came back to reality to hear the end of Iwaizumi’s sentence.
“…and there’s no apparent connection between the victims.”
“As of now, that’s not true.” Both of them focused their unyielding attention on you. “I found out something yesterday.”
When you finished summarizing the events of the previous evening, Kageyama rested his chin on his hand, thinking. You had to resist the overwhelming urge to pat his head. He was so young and unblemished. He piped up, oblivious to your thoughts. “So the club calls all its special guests Alice?”
You nodded. “Presumably the suspect has regular access to the club and the underground areas.”
Iwaizumi was pacing next to the board now, deep in his own conclusions. You saw the beginnings of a familiar resolve building on his face as he spoke. “So how does that fit into the order of the killings? The murderer started off with a lot of rage, probably had no plans to kill the first victim. Then they realized they could do it again, get away with it. So the second one is showy, a taunt. Then…”
The younger male caught on to your partner’s line of thought and straightened. “And then they’re all in cold blood because he just likes killing for the sake of it now.”
You placed a palm on a photo, feeling a crimson thread binding you to the sorrowfully still girl in the picture. “They’re punishments,” you intoned quietly. “For defying his wishes. Whatever they are.”
There’s a moment of silence before Iwaizumi turned to Kageyama. “We can talk about this on the way to the lab. There’s someone you need to meet.”
The lone figure hunched over the table in the forensics room didn’t look up when you entered. “I’m busy, go away.”
“We brought a fresh recruit, Semi.” You tilted your head in amusement. “If you would take your eyes from the microscope for a second, you can register him and go back to brooding.”
Your favourite analyst scowled and pushed back his glasses onto his head, making his silvery hair stand up in tufts. “I’m not brooding. If you had any gratitude at all, you’d leave me alone to the mountain of work they’ve left me with.” He didn’t wait for your reply before looking poor Kageyama up and down once. “Okay, registered. Now disappear.”
You settled your hip against the table and smiled pleasantly. “I love you too, Semi. Have you got any news for me?”
He gave you a flat look of displeasure and pulled a sheet from a teetering stack of papers. “The autopsy results are out. Ueda Yukiko died from asphyxiation by drowning. No big surprise there.”
Iwaizumi raised an eyebrow. “And?”
Semi sighed and pulled another sheet from the perilously stacked tower. You saw Kageyama eye the wobbling paper structure with trepidation. “The analysis finally came back on the poison used in the twins’ food.” He bit his lip. “It’s tetrodotoxin. A neurotoxin commonly found in poisonous marine animals.”
You and Iwaizumi straightened in attention. You leaned closer to Semi. “That would be hard to procure, wouldn’t it?”
The analyst twirled a pen in consideration. “Yeah, I’d say so. It’s not usually synthesized artificially either, so you can’t just buy it. It’s worth looking into the source.”
“I can do it.” Iwaizumi’s eyes slid to the junior officer as Kageyama held his hand up. “I can try to trace the poison.”
Semi nodded like that solved everything. “There you go, the new kid is offering to do it for you. Now can I please get back to this fingerprint sample?”
You nudged his shoulder. “You sure you don’t want to join us for lunch, snow queen?”
“And spend half an hour in interminable agony? No thanks.”
Iwaizumi shook his head as you left the lab, muttering something about cicadas and people with no lives. Kageyama shook his head fervently when you repeated your question about lunch, saying he had something to look up, and ran off. You stepped outside with Iwaizumi, turning left to take the path to your usual izakaya, when an arm suddenly slung itself around your shoulder.
“___-chan, were you and Iwa-chan going to abandon me and go to lunch? How mean.”
You gave Oikawa a long-suffering look. “Abandonment implies we have a choice, which hasn’t been the case since college.”
Iwaizumi bumped fists with you. “For once we agree on something.”
Oikawa’s head drooped to rest on your shoulder. You ruffled his glossy hair affectionately. “How’s life in the limelight treating you, Tooru?”
“Same old, same old. Being a celebrity news anchor does have its downsides, you know.”
You looped your arm through his and dragged him forward. “Like what? All the people in love with you?”
He narrowed his eyes at you. “When they follow you around and invade your privacy, yes.”
Iwaizumi’s mouth curled down unhappily. “Is someone bothering you?”
Your other best friend smiled, eerily reminding you of a cat that caught the canary. “Why Iwa-chan, are you feeling protective of me?”
“Yeah,” replied Iwaizumi simply. “I am. Wouldn’t anyone be?” There was long silence in which Oikawa watched Iwaizumi with a strained expression. You stopped and looked up at the izakaya’s name emblazoned in red.
“Tooru, you’re paying this time.” The tension dissipated as Oikawa gave you a betrayed look.
“But why? You’re punishing me for something I didn’t even do,” he said with a pout.
“You’re paid more than me and Hajime combined,” you pointed out. “I think you can afford to treat us to some ramen without breaking the bank.” Iwaizumi nodded solemnly.
He threw his hands up in surrender. “Fine. You first, ___-chan,” he said, holding the curtains to the entrance open. Oikawa made a grand flourish. “Age before beauty, remember?”
You made sure to step hard on his foot as you walked in. He yelped and followed you to a quiet table in the corner, scowling at you the whole way. Iwaizumi was shaking his head at your collective antics when the server came to take your orders. You noted with amusement the glazed adoration on her face as Oikawa gave her a dazzling smile.
“So,” you said to Iwaizumi when you were alone again, “how should we go about dealing with this?”
Oikawa sipped from a glass of water, dark eyes watchful. “Have you made any progress with the Alice killer?”
You told him what you’d learned at the club. “I think I’ll have to go back there and question them all,” you finished. “There’s a lot more under the surface than they’re letting on.”
“The whole thing seems extremely shady to me,” growled Iwaizumi. “I’m going with you.”
You wondered how to go about this gently. “I don’t think it’s a good idea. I have feeling their trust is fragile, and anything could break it. I need you to look up their files instead so we can corroborate their stories later. It’s time consuming, but Kageyama-kun can help.”
Green eyes locked with yours in a battle of wills as Iwaizumi made his disapproval known. You gazed back until he looked away with a sigh. “Be careful. This perp has no boundaries, no rules. You could be targeted.”
Oikawa gave you a pleasant smile. “I could accompany you, if you like. This club sounds very interesting.”
Before you could say it, Iwaizumi shook his head. “No, definitely not. It’s bad enough that she wants to waltz in there without protection, but taking you along? That’s not happening.”
Oikawa’s face was set in stubborn resolve. He lifted his chin. “I can take care of myself, Iwa-chan. ‘Sides, the killer only targets women.”
That seemed to make the other male falter. His face turned grim again. “I still say no. There’s no guarantee the murderer will continue to follow this pattern, and you might not be able to follow ___ to the underground floor. It’s unsafe for a host of reasons.”
You watched in fascination as Oikawa turned predatory. “Iwa-chan,” he said, lips curling upwards, “are you really just worried for me?”
Iwaizumi frowned, setting his glass down with a tap. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I mean,” Oikawa intoned, voice husky, “you’re coming up with a bunch of flimsy reasons for me not to visit a club. As if I haven’t been to a million of them. Is there something in particular about this one that bothers you? Like the fact that there’s a collection of attractive, intriguing people?”
You bit your cheek as you saw Iwaizumi’s knuckles turn white. “Are you saying,” he gritted out, “that I’m jealous?”
There was a rustle as Oikawa leaned forward, his gaze fixed on Iwaizumi’s. “I don’t know. Are you?”
It was lightning-fast, but you caught it as Iwaizumi’s eyes dropped to Oikawa’s mouth. Judging from the way his shoulders stiffened, Tooru knew it too. Your partner parted his lips to speak. “I-“
A shrill ring drove a spike into the strange moment building at the table. You finally breathed again as Iwaizumi left to take the call, your chest easing out of a tightness you didn’t know you felt. Oikawa just stared at the table with a dark expression, his frame rigid with tension. You sighed.
“Tooru, when are you both going to stop dancing around each other and just say it?” You had lost track of the number of times they came close to the edge of that precipice.
He didn’t look at you. “I can’t risk it, ___-chan. You and Iwa-chan are the only people I have left.” His voice was quiet, broken. “I just can’t.”
You put your hand over his, feeling his pain like your own. “I’m not going to interfere, but…this isn’t going to last forever.”
He didn’t say anything when you and Iwaizumi left for the station. Your partner’s face had turned into a granite mask, and you knew better than to prod him for answers. After spending a while collecting files to take with you, it was time to leave, so you waved at Iwaizumi. He nodded back briskly. “Be safe, ___.”
Twenty minutes later you found yourself staring at a door, powder blue this time, and wondering what awaited you behind its polished surface. There was only one way to find out. You inhaled for calm, turned the knob and walked in.
A shirtless Kuroo greeted you with an inscrutable smile. You swallowed at the sight of gloriously dusky skin, marble-like musculature and that sinful hair over one eye. “Detective. I see you’ve found the Pool of Tears.”

Don’t Get Me Started
Based off of a tumblr post: The idea is that one person gives the other a word, and they have to go on angry rant about whatever it is.
What happens when Dean asks Cas to go on a rant about Dean?
Read it on AO3!
Castiel, despite what many people thought, did not dislike parties. He didn’t necessarily like parties all that much, but he didn’t harbor any unnatural hatred towards them. He would just rather stay on the fringes, where he wasn’t expected to dance or shout to be heard over everyone else shouting to be heard.
Which is why he was sitting on a little brick ledge in front of an electric fireplace that was thankfully off, observing the crowd. He had a plastic cup full of some kind of beer, or punch, or something, but he wasn’t drinking it. He wrinkled his nose in sympathy and disgust as someone ran off to the bathroom, probably to puke up all the alcohol they had drank.
“Hey, Cas, how’s it going!” Charlie shouted, red hair swinging as she happily plopped down next to him. Her cheeks were pink, from dancing and drinking, but she looked happy.
“Hello, Charlie.” Castiel said loudly, smiling at her. “You look like you’re having fun!”
“I am!” She gave him a grin and punched his arm. “You could, too, if you’d actually do something.”
“I’m doing something,” Castiel rolled his eyes, knowing she was just teasing. “But you know I don’t like to dance.”
Charlie feigned thoughtfulness. “Hmm… maybe… if you’d get a little alcohol in you, you’ll feel better about that. Let me grab you a cup.” She stood up an inch before pointing overdramatically to Cas’ cup, “Oh, wait, you already have one!”
Castiel chuckled to himself as she continued her charade.
She sat back down and gasped, holding a hand to her heart. “But, Castiel! That cup looks so full! It’s almost as if… You aren’t drinking any!”
“You and I both know I only hold a cup so that no one can guilt me into drinking.” Cas rolled his eyes, smiling fondly.
Charlie laughed. “I know, I know. You know I don’t have a problem with you not drinking.” She leaned close and lowered her voice. “Best part? Permanent designated driver.” She winked, a little sloppily due to the alcohol and laughed as she sat back again.
Castiel chuckled at her. “Shouldn’t you be dancing? I thought there was a cute blonde whose number you wanted to get.”
Charlie nodded, but held up a finger. “Yes, but you must know, my young grasshopper,” she leaned in again, acting like she was about to impart sacred knowledge, “puking is not sexy.”
“Oh.” Castiel deadpanned. “I always thought it was my rampant asexuality that made me see puking as unattractive, but I see now my mistake.”
Charlie sniggered and hit his arm again. “There you go!”
“Puking isn’t sexy as in she puked and you’re no longer interested or as in you puked and she is no longer interested?”
Charlie shook her head. “No, no, neither one. Puking isn’t sexy as in I’m going to sit down for a minute so my punch-filled stomach has a chance to settle before I go in for the kill.”
Castiel snorted at her wording, but let it go. “I thought you were just yelling at me to do something?”
“Oh, I was. And I still am.” She grinned wickedly. “Let’s play a game!”
Castiel hesitated. “What game?”
“It’s this game I saw on tumblr called ‘don’t get me started’.” She absentmindedly started braiding a section of her hair. “We give each other topics and we have to go on angry rants about whatever the topic is.” She grinned at him, releasing her hair. “It’ll be fun!”
“Sounds relatively harmless. It could be fun.” Cas admitted.
“Alright!! You go first, your topic is,” She looked around the room, trying to find a subject. Her eyes landed on a couple grinding in the middle of the room. “Sex.”
“Sex.” Cas repeated.
“Yes. Sex.” She gestured for him to begin.
“Um…” He blew out a breath. “Sex is… Charlie, you know I’m ace. And have never had sex before.”
“Yes, I know, that’s why it’s fun! Come on, you can think of something!”
“Uh… Sex is just the worst. All those… bodily fluids… and… smells. I don’t even like picking up my own sweaty clothes from my floor, I can’t imagine being pressed up next to someone sweating like crazy would feel at all nice. And what if they had bad breath? Kissing would be horrendous.” Cas shrugged with a laugh, giving up. “I have no experience here, Charlie. I do imagine sex sounds a lot like someone stirring potato salad, though, which,” he wrinkled his nose. “Sounds incredibly unappealing.”
Charlie just burst into giggles. “Okay, okay, I should have given you a different thing. What do you have for me?”
Castiel looked around, settling on fireplace next to them. “Fireplaces?”            She snorted but started ranting. “Fireplaces are bullshit! Like, the whole point is to get warm while saving electricity but now they’re all electric and cost more to run than they’re worth! And they’re all encased in glass, too, like what the hell?? I wanted s’mores, damn it!” She started waving her hands around, really getting into it. “The fake logs don’t look real, the fake flames don’t look real, why not just get blanket or a heating system, for Merlin’s sake!” She swept her hand out, hitting someone in the stomach as they were walking by. “Oh, shit!” They guy bent over, winded.
Castiel burst into laughter at her face, setting his drink down to put his hand on the guy’s shoulder. “Are you okay?”
He stood up, wincing and rubbing at his stomach. “Yeah, just minor internal bleeding. God, Charles, if you wanted a guy’s attention how ‘bout you just say his name next time?”
Charlie laughed and pulled him down to sit with them. “Sorry, Dean! We were playing a game and I got a little too into it. Have you met Cas before?”
Castiel smiled politely and nodded at him. “Yes, we have a few classes together.”
Castiel blushed, hoping no one would notice. He was underselling it. Yes, they had a few classes together, but Castiel had been harboring a bit of a crush on Dean for a long while. At first it was just passing glances, admiring his leather jacket or his hair (Dean’s hair always looked really soft). Then he had noticed that Dean did really well in the classes they shared, and saw him helping out the kids that weren’t as quick to understand. Cas couldn’t help but admire his intelligence and compassion, and it made his heart melt a bit every time Dean smiled when he was able to help someone get a good grade on a test.
Cas hadn’t had a “sudden revelation” of sexual attraction, he was still ace, but that wasn’t what this was. He didn’t really want to have sex with Dean. He might be a little curious, sure, but it was more about closeness. He wanted to cuddle with Dean on the couch while watching dumb movies and laughing about bad science. He wanted to laugh at Dean’s bed head in the morning and tease him for horrible morning breath. He wanted Dean to hold his hand and kiss his forehead, and he wanted to kiss the freckle that was right on the tip of Dean’s nose. He wanted Dean to tease him about their one-inch height difference until he huffed with anger and Dean calmed him down with a soft voice and gummy smile.
He was lonely. But that wasn’t new. He wasn’t going to push his feelings onto Dean, that wouldn’t be fair to other man.
“It’s nice to see you, Dean.” Cas saw Charlie narrowing her eyes but ignored it.
Dean smiled at him. “Hey, Cas. That test yesterday was a bitch, wasn’t it?”
Cas grimaced, shaking his head. “I feel like it wasn’t my best. How are you?”
“I’m alright. I somehow pulled the short straw, so I’m designated driver tonight.” He spread his hands to show the lack of drink. “I’ve been hitting the snacks, though. Those pretzels are really good.” He rubbed the back of his neck before adding, “I didn’t know you’d be here tonight; I would’ve found you earlier.”
Cas smiled, feeling his face heat up and bending down to pick up his cup so he had something to do with his hands. “That would’ve been nice.” He cleared his throat. “Charlie’s been fairly entertaining, though.”
Dean chuckled. “Yeah, what game were you guys playing? I feel like I deserve to know what ruptured my spleen.”
Charlie rolled her eyes, looking far too entertained by their exchange. “I may be the Queen, but I’m not that strong, you big baby. The game is called ‘don’t get me started’. We give each other a word and the other person has to go on an angry rant about it. It’s just to pass the time, we aren’t scoring them or anything. But if we were I’d totally be winning.” She flipped her hair sassily before laughing at herself. “You wanna play?” She looked a little too excited.
Cas narrowed his eyes at her, frowning a little in response to her widening her eyes innocently. He turned to Dean, softening his scowl to a slight smile. “You’re welcome to join us, if you’d like.”
Dean smiled back. “Yeah, I’ll play. Sounds like it could be fun. Who’s giving me my word?”
Charlie smirked. “Cas, why don’t you do it?” She said, oozing innocence.
Cas gave her a suspicious look, but didn’t want to call it out in front of Dean. “…okay,” he glanced around again, trying to find something. He hummed to himself. “How about Christmas lights?” He gestured to the lights strung around the top of the room.
Dean laughed and thought for a moment. “Okay, Christmas lights. They’re the worst, aren’t they? You put them up, expecting nice lights, and you just get a broken bulb every three feet and a tangle of cords you’ll never be able to straighten out. They’re not worth the effort and it pisses me off. How are you supposed to hang them on the wall, with tape? You have to stick up hooks or some shit, which is more effort. It’s bullshit.”
Charlie clapped for his attempt. “Good job! Well, as much as I hate to leave you two hanging,” Castiel saw the glint in her eye that showed she did not hate it, “I have a hot blonde I want to make out with. Later, bitches.” She gave them the Vulcan salute and walked across the room.
Castiel laughed under his breath at her bluntness before blushing as he felt Dean scoot closer to him on the ledge.
“So, uh,” Cas coughed, rolling his cup between his hands. “I guess it’s my turn?”
Dean smiled, “Before we keep going, can I ask you a question?”            Cas’ chest tightened with nerves. “Yes,” he answered hesitantly.
“Why do you have a drink? I haven’t seen you take a single sip this entire time.”
Castiel questioned his use of “the entire time”, wondering if maybe Dean had been watching him before approaching. He shook his head, chuckling a little at his own thoughts. “I always hold a drink at parties.” He glanced up from where he was still playing with the cup and quirked smiled at Dean. “I don’t drink alcohol, usually. If my hands are empty, people try to be polite and offer me a drink, and I feel bad for turning them down or not drinking it.” He shrugged, a little embarrassed. “Also, it’s just something to do with my hands, I tend to get a little fidgety when I’m nervous.”
Dean hummed in understanding, and Cas looked away before he let himself believe that the look in Dean’s eyes was anything but amusement. Before he could let himself believe it was what he wanted to see, soft with fondness.
“So, what’s my word?” Castiel rubbed his arm, looking at his shoes, and being careful not to spill his drink.
“Me.”
Castiel whipped his head up. “What?” He breathed.
Dean leaned in, his voice soft. “Me. I want to see what you think about me.”
Cas stared into Dean’s eyes. Was that… was Dean nervous? Cas glanced into his drink. “Okay, one angry rant about Dean Winchester coming right up.” He tried to joke. His voice sounded too tense for it to really work. He took a deep breath. “You’re too intelligent. Every subject I have to study for you seem to ace with no problem. You can do math in your head I need a calculator for and can recite passages of Vonnegut from memory. Also, you’re too compassionate. Helping other people even though you don’t have to, even though you can use that time for other things. And you’re too nice.” Cas saw ripples in his drink. Was he shaking? “Everyone knows to come to you when they need help or tutoring or anything and you’ll help them. No questions asked. They all look up to you. Everyone wants to be friends with you.”
Dean lifted Cas’ cup out of his hands before it spilled all over the floor.
Cas’ voice quieted, hoping that Dean wouldn’t hear. Hoping that he would. Hoping that he wasn’t ruining everything. “Your hair always looks so soft and it pisses me off because I can’t pay attention to the teacher. Your leather jacket always looks really warm and it distracts me because I want to know how long the sleeves would be on me, if they’d cover my fingers. It distracts me because I wonder if it smells like you. Which,” he breathed out a laugh that wasn’t really a laugh. “You smell too good and it annoys me because I can’t place what it is.”
He felt Dean’s hand on his cheek and looked up cautiously. Dean looked like Cas had been afraid to hope he would. His smile was soft and his eyes were full of fondness. “It’s my turn. Can I do you?” Dean asked, quiet as his thumb slowly moved back and forth on Cas’ cheekbone.
Cas closed his eyes and took a deep breath before nodding. He leaned into the hand on his face, hoping it would stay. Afraid that Dean was about to tell him “You’re a nice guy, dude, but…”
“You’re too calm.”
Castiel flinched.
“Anyone can come up to you and tell you any problem they have and you’ll stay calm. You calm them down and you solve the problem together.” Dean chuckled. “Remember when Anna broke her heel off of her shoe and you calmed her down and gave her your gym shoes to wear? She was so grateful.”
Dean’s hand was still on his face. Castiel slowly opened his eyes to look at Dean.
Dean smiled and continued. “You’re too accepting. So many people have been afraid to come out to their friends or families, but everyone knows you’re safe. Everyone knows you don’t judge, you don’t question, you just quietly thank them for telling you and wish them luck. You’re too protective. You glare at anyone that looks at your friends wrong and you don’t let anyone mess with those you’ve accepted into your circle. You got in a fight the second day of school protecting a freshman from some juniors. Do you remember?”
Castiel nodded again.
“That was my little brother, Sammy. You didn’t know, you didn’t even ask who he was. You just protected him, no questions asked.” Dean sighed, soft smile still in place. “Your hair is always so ruffled and it makes me mad as hell because I’m not allowed to run my hands through it. Your eyes are always so blue and focused and it drives me insane because I want you to look at me all the time.” Dean leaned forward and rested his forehead against Cas’, whispering, “You’re asexual and not afraid of people knowing and it drives me insane because I love sex. But I can imagine myself never having sex again, as long as I’m with you the entire time.”
Castiel and Dean looked into each other’s eyes, foreheads touching, Dean’s thumb still slowly stroking Cas’ face.
“Cas?”
“Yes, Dean?” Cas sounded breathless, but he couldn’t get himself to care.
“Would it be okay if I kissed you right now?”
“That”, Castiel murmured, “would be perfectly okay.”
Dean brought his other hand up to cradle Cas’ jaw and Castiel closed his eyes as Dean tilted his head. Their lips met. Dean tasted like cinnamon and pretzels. Castiel could smell Dean’s scent, closer than he ever had before, and he realized that somewhere in the mix he smelled apple pie.
They broke the kiss, but kept their foreheads together. Eyes opened slowly, and dumb little smiles came across both faces.
“I’ve been wanting to do that for a while now.” Dean confided, both thumbs now slowly brushing Cas’ cheeks.
“Me, too.” Cas replied softly. He brought his hands up to hold Dean’s wrists, his thumbs lightly rubbing where the sleeves of Dean’s leather jacket ended.
“We should talk about this.” Dean sighed. “We should figure out shit. But I really just want to stay like this for right now.”
Cas hummed an affirmative. “We can talk later.” He shivered suddenly, glancing around at the unexpected chill.
Without their notice, the party had wound down. Everyone was passed out on the floor or gone, and someone had left the patio door open. The cold night wind was breezing in, bringing goosebumps to Cas’ arms. He sighed, mentally berating himself for only wearing a t-shirt.
“Hey, Cas?” Dean’s voice sounded amused, and his eyes were crinkled at the corners. “Want to conduct an experiment?”
Castiel would have tilted his head in confusion if it wasn’t still being held in place by Dean (not that he was complaining). Instead he opted for narrowing his eyes. “What experiment?”
Dean dropped his hands and Castiel reluctantly released his wrists. Cas’ eyes widened as Dean slipped off his leather jacket and held it out to the dark-haired man.
“Do you think the sleeves will cover your fingers?” Dean grinned.
Castiel laughed through his blush as he reached out and carefully held the leather. “Are you sure?” Cas asked. “Everyone knows this is yours, they’ll think we’re together if they see me wearing it.”
Dean chuckled and kissed Castiel on the cheek. “They won’t think we’re together. They’ll know we’re together. If you’re okay with it, I want them to.” He winked at Cas.
Castiel gave Dean a full-blown, gummy smile. “I want them to, as well.” He slid the leather jacket around his shoulders and sighed at the warm leather. It smelled like Dean, and he already loved wearing it.
Dean suddenly threw back his head in laughter.
“What?” Cas asked, smiling.
Dean just shook his head, still chuckling. He pointed to Cas’ hands. Or, he pointed to where Cas’ hands would have been.
The jacket did cover his fingers after all.

— Rejoice, little lambs! We have recovered our own Lee Jongsuk, spotted prancing about in the Southwest Side. I don’t remember seeing him with any clique back in high school, but I’m not here to spill yesterday’s tea. So straight to the rundown: can you say independent and prideful? Apparently now he spends time as the owner of Lucky Paws Rescue Centre, and keeps skeletons buried at Macheon Hill Community, 503. But those won’t stay hidden for long, if you and I have any say on it. Welcome back, Ace; we missed you so.
In case you don’t remember the devil’s name, here’s to refresh your memory:
In high school, Jong Suk came off as the type of person with his nose in the air. People often times tried befriending him and trying to get him involved in school activities but he’d either ignore people or reject anything they suggested to him. People considered him rude, but others found this oddly charming and people became obsessive with trying to change him and get him to open up to them and become his best friend but it probed to be to no avail. In reality, Jong Suk just found it hard for him to care enough to get involved and he was put off by people who came on too strongly. Jong Suk tended to think highly of himself as well, thinking that people who kept showing interesting and trying to get to know him better were interested in him for his looks and his money, which to him, was amusing. When it came to Gossip Girl, he was never someone who was for or against it and simply went with the flow, although he did find it annoying when there were secrets about him going around, all of which he would claim to be untrue, even if it was true.
Nevermind the memory lane though, the present is always the ripest fruit:
Nowadays, Jong Suk has opened up a little more and is more willing to talk to people, but this is mostly due to him knowing that networking is important when you’re in a position like him and when you’re running a business. He tends to keep his thoughts to himself though and his personality can often times be described as dry and blunt and despite doing his best to talk to more people for the sake of personal gain, he tends to speak his mind and be very straightforward about things, which often times doesn’t sit too well with others. Although he’s a business man and an heir to his father’s company, he’s very much an independent being and accepting help is hard for him to do, but this is mostly the case when it’s outside of work. Jong Suk can also be seen as someone who’s selfish, a claim that he wouldn’t deny and would simply accept. At the end of the day, he does his best in order to make sure it works out for him and there are very few people that he cares about outside of himself.
But we are nothing if not open books – my job is to ensure you get to the best pages:
Jong Suk was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and grew up being pampered and showered with anything and everything that he could ever want. It was a good life to say the least, although it was a bit lonely when you were an only child living in a large house and your parents were barely around, but Jong Suk was never a child who threw tantrums or had a fit and was oddly quiet.
His father didn’t mind this and was pleased that his son was well-mannered, but his mother was concerned with what was going on inside of her son’s head but they didn’t want to worry Jong Suk or draw too much attention to this and as a quiet solution, they bought Jong Suk a dog to keep him company. Jong Suk fell in love with his dog, which he named King and it was clear to anyone who was ever around the two that Jong Suk loved animals and often times, it seemed as though he got along better with animals rather than with people.
When Jong Suk got older, his father would start to take his son to work and it didn’t escape his notice the way that his father’s employees treated him like royalty, everyone knowing full well that one day, he would be the heir to the company but among all the employees and staff members, there was a man and a woman who caught his attention because they were unlike anyone else.
They were kind to him just like everyone else was, but their kindness was much more genuine which was surprising to Jong Suk and also made him feel a little uncomfortable. Over time, he grew fond of the man and woman, who he learned were actually a married couple and found that he got along with them rather well. He was surprised when his father suggested that the three spend time together, something that he was against when other employees would offer to treat Jong Suk.
Jong Suk was always curious as to why the couple never had children of their own and when he raised the question, all he got was simple smiles and shrugs and lame excuses before changing the subject to something else. It wasn’t until he was about 17 years old that Jong Suk learned the truth about the married couple.
His parents had invited them over for dinner and it was then that Jong Suk learned that the couple did have a child years ago, and that child was Jong Suk. It turned out that his mother and his birth mother were best friends since childhood and when his mother had gotten married, the pressure to have an heir was high and while trying to conceive, she learned she was unable to. At that time, his birth mother had been pregnant and had offered to give up her child for her best friend, claiming that she would never be able to provide a good future for him the way that she would and made a promise that one day, they would reveal the truth to the child and try to be involved from the sidelines as much as they could.
The news was shocking to Jong Suk, but just like he had been his entire life, he remained calm and accepted the news without causing much of a fuss. Everyone was relieved by this and insisted that Jong Suk never share his secret with anyone, because the news would cause a huge scandal and they’d all suffer if people knew the truth. Jong Suk promised not to say a word and with that, everyone went back to their normal lives, but Jong Suk never stopped seeing his birth parents and made sure that they were a big part of his life.
Although Jong Suk had the position of an heir to fill one day, Jong Suk’s love of animals never faded and along with getting an education in business, he also studied to become a veterinarian and opened up a rescue centre to save animals and treat them.

Dweit & Pals - The Tomb of the ‘Uber Riches
“Give me back my hat.”
Dweit sat at a small, wooden table in a dimmly-lit tent. The only light in the place was from a lone candle in the center of the table. On the other side of him was...another goblin. The darkness covered the figure in darkness, but Dweit already knew how ugly the poor sapper was.
He also knew that the goblin had the audacity to wear his hat. Who does that?
“Zinkin’ about vhen yer friendzk vill arrive, mine captive?” The figure spoke as one of his large oaf minions pressed Dweit down into his chair.
“‘ey, hands off. Tell your mook to stop tryin’ to manhandle the goods, yea?”
One motion from the hand of the small figure and the oaf moved his giant hand away from the shoulder of the captive. “Mine apologiez.”
“Yeah, yeah.” The captive moved his hand over his shoulder, dusting it off and muttering. “So what do youse bozos want with me?”
“You and me, ve are tvo sidez of zhe zame coin, Mr. Dveit.” The figure moved a hand out and laid down a small gold coin. “Ve vere both burned badly via our previousk employerzk.” The figure was interrupted by a howling wind flying into the tent where they both sat. “Close zhe flap. Zhe sand vill...ruin our converzation.”
The oaf nodded and moved to the flap, trying to close it. Through a continued muttering of drowned out frustration via the zipper getting stuck at the top, the oaf moved his entire body to cover up the doorway. A simple solution.
“Ahh, zhat’s better.”
“So you were sayin’ somethin’ about two sides of a coin or somethin’ stupid like that.”
“Ah, right. Mine apologiez for not gettin’ to zhe point.” The figure shifted and moved a coin bag onto the table. “You are but vone coin in zhe empire of goblins forzked into zervitude by Gallyvickz. A vayvard pennilezk zoul aftervards...but zhe goblin lawz kept you zecure.”
“.....what of it?” Dweit narrowed his eyes.
“I vas not born yesterday, Zhe zhree of you came to Uldum to find zhe fortune before zhe haughty ex found it firzt.”
Dweit grimaced.
“Ah, zhe face you make iz vone of great clarity, so I zhall get to zhe point.” The figure moved forward, the light barely hitting his grotesque face. “Vhere is zhe treasure?”
Dweit figgited in his seat. “All of this for my treasure? Why?”
“It is in mine nature, Mr. Dveit.” Through the darkness the goblin could see a small glint of a smile creep along the figure’s face. “I know zhere iz zometink very preciouz zhat iz kept zhere. Zometink...empire-topplink.”
“..........fine. But before I do, you gotta listen to my tale.”
“Ahhhhh, zhe tranzparent attempt to buy fer time. But thiz is good. I vant to know everytink.”
“Fine...so you’re probably wondering how I got into this mess...” Dweit stared at the figure, one eye closed while the other kept itself trained on the shadowy figure.
“Yezk...zat is vhat I zaid.”
---
Days prior.
“MAMA DWEIT...NO!” Dweit fell to the ground before the bloody, headless corpse of a sweet old lady, tears streaming down his gaunt face and-
---
“Vait, vait, vait. Back up von zeckond.”
“What? You want me to tell the story or not?”
“Aren’t you...zkippink ahead a bit?”
Dweit rolled his eyes. “Oh, so I actually wanna save you time an’ you decide to make me unabridge it. Fine, fine, whatever ‘yer lordship’ wants.”
---
A Few More Days Prior.
So, as it turns out, the Broken Isles don’t really have much in terms of things for us to profit from. Elven ruins were already tapped, and everyone an’ their mother was in Suramar grabbing the wine. Sure, we were there to promote the message of Horde unity and saving the world from the Legion and blah-blah-blah, but...welll, you know goblins. We ain’t going for something we can’t profit from.
So me and my associates decide to leave Dalaran and partake in scavenging on the Broken Shore. That area hadn’t been given a foothold yet and we figure a few ships would have to have something.
But then I had a glaive to my throat.
The hustle and bustle of The Filthy Animal was temporarily interrupted by a demon hunter slamming Dweit into the wall while a blood elf pointed his sword to his side.
“What...did I...do?” Dweit couldn’t help but give the demon hunter a smile. “Did I offend your senses?”
After a moment, Dweit realized who it was who had him against the wall. “Oh, right...you’re Holly’s bae, right?”
“Urrrrrgh...”  Denarye did not look well after he said that, but he had surely been called worse, right? He was also gripping the goblin’s neck tighter. “You will call me Denarye.”
“Right, right, sorry. So...w-what can I do for you?” Dweit looked over to Tendorel at his side, wondering if he was going to do anything useful. Tendorel had his eyes transfixed on the demon hunter, blade nestled firmly into the air and ready to strike at any point.
"Ohohohoho!”
And then Dweit’s last bastion of hope was shattered, when his vision focused to the right and saw Holly walk forward, her hands gripping her giant axe with a smile only a crazed psychopath could love.
“What’s this all about, Holly Nitwit?” Dweit attempted once more to try and loosen the demon hunter’s grip, but it turns out the demon hunter MO really is never letting go.
“Oh, I wanted ta’ make shure ya didn’t skip outta town yet, Dweeb. Not before I gets ta’ kill ya.”
“.......why?” Dweit grimaced.
“Because yer not needed anymore, bozo. I just need ta go to my good-fer-nothin’ ex-mother-in-law an’ get on my way ta’ the big bucks!”
“Your ex-m-...” Dweit’s eyes widened. Then they shot over right to Tendorel. “TENDOREL.”
“Huh, what?”
“You told them?! Why?! Why did you tell them!?”
“W-...hey, it could’ve been Ace!” Tendorel shot back at him, his face shocked at the accusation.
“Ace is surprisingly not dumb enough to keep in contact with the enemy!” Dweit shot a look at Denarye after looking towards Tendorel accusingly.
At this, Tendorel’s ears popped up. He then looked away, coughing. Denarye, to his credit, was not shaken in the least. “So...what, maybe after a drink or two, I-”
“How could you do that to me, Tendorel?!” Dweit exclaimed, letting go of the demon hunter’s grip and grasping in the air in front of Tendorel, hoping his arms would suddenly grow long enough to strangle his warrior companion.
“I...look, I’m sorry. It was late, we were...enjoying each other’s company....I can’t keep my mouth shut when I’m looking into those eyes.”
“CAN YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU JUST-? Dweit was interrupted by the hand firmly grasping his throat for a moment.
Denarye let out a small cough. Even he was getting a little embarrassed. “Be that as it may, we have what we need from you.”
“Thaaaaat’s right, babe.” Holly smirked, sauntering over to Dweit with a gleam in her eyes. “And all I need ta do is get it outta Mamma Dweit...after I kill you, of course.”
Dweit’s expression darkened as he closed his eyes. So this is how it was going to end? Being choked to death for the insurance money by his ex-wife’s new boyfriend who just slept with his bodyguard?
A solid 8 out of 10 on predictability.
"Is there a problem here, friends?”
Dweit opened his eyes. Oh, good, saved by an archmage.
“Oh, come on. Leave us alone, this is Horde business.”
“Oh, for....” The archmage’s expression turned to frustration rather quickly. “I am a blood elf! I’m a part of the Horde!” He seemed very upset about this. “Look, see? See my green eyes?”
“No.”
“They’re not bad.”
“Keep it in your pants, Tender.”
The archmage sighed and pointed his staff at the demon hunter. “Regardless, we are under constant surveillance by the Council of Six. Though Lady Jaina is not with them anymore, they will not hesitate to kick the Horde out of the city. And I don’t think I need to remind you about your obligations being a figurehead for the Illidari, Denarye.”
The demon hunter grimaced. “Hmph...of course not, Archmage Sotoris.” With that, he loosened the grip and allowed the goblin to fall face-first on the ground.
Holly, meanwhile, was growling, her grip on the axe tightening. She turned around and began to step towards the mage. “I have been waitin’.....for so long for this moment, you pencil-pushin’ thin-skinned, pretty-boy magic-fellatin’-”
Tendorel walked over to Dweit and helped his boss up from the ground. “Hey, uh....sorry for that.”
Dweit smacked the warrior’s hand away after getting up, rubbing his throat. “Eh...whatever...”
Nodding, Tendorel looked over. Holly was still at it, stomping very slowly towards the mage as her expletives began to gain more bite. Sotoris, for his part, was only stepping back with the same rhythm as she stepped forward, though sweat slowly began to form on his forehead.
“Is she always like that?” Tendorel asked.
“Yeup.”
“Yes.”
Denarye looked toward Holly. Through his special vision, it felt almost like she was being enveloped by a seething cloud of anger. It seemed nigh-demonic but he knew all too well that it was not.
“...-robe-wearin-probably-with-nothin-under-like-some-sorta-freak, book-nerdin’, staff-holdin’-”
“Lady Holly. It is time we depart.”
Holly’s intensity shot a quick glare towards Denarye, her eyes looking like they could bring even the greatest of monsters down with just sheer fear. But to Denarye, it was nothing. And after a moment, Holly’s expression shifted to an annoyed grin.
“Wellllll, fine. I guess Dweit can live fer now.” She moved her axe onto her back and smiled at the poor goblin. “Though if you follow me an’ I see you, you’re going to be cut up into so many pieces that a sapper will be jealous, capisce?”
Dweit glared at her, but said nothing. Satisfied with that, Holly and Denarye took their leave, Holly grinning all the way through.
Tendorel sighed, putting his weapon onto his belt and his shield on his back. He looked over at Dweit. “I am sorry”, he repeated.
Dweit shrugged. “It’s fine, I get it.” After a moment, he looked over to Sotoris. “Thank you for your help, Archmage.”
“Ah.” Sotoris coughed, wiping off the sweat that formed on his head. “It was nothing, really. I did not want the work done by those adventurers to be undermined. The fact that an Alliance hero was the one who suggested the Horde return with Archmage Khadgar was the only reason the council budged on the issue. I...didn’t want that to be squandered, of course, and-”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.” Dweit waved at the mage. “Thank you again, so...scram, will ya?”
Sotoris winced at this, then sighed. “You’re welcome.” With a swing of his staff, he disappeared.
A few moments after the encounter, the bustle of the inn began in earnest once again. It was then that Ace walked in, holding a giant backpack of scrolls and inkwells. She looked pleased with herself as she plopped them down onto the table and sat down. “Ah...there we are.”
She looked over to her friends and noticed that they looked a lot worse for wear than before.
“...did I miss something?”
Dweit sighed, rubbing his hands into his brow. Tendorel, meanwhile, was nervously looking away, a shade of blush on his face.
“..................they know it’s Mamma Dweit, don’t th-”
“YES.” Dweit yelled out in frustration, taking the moment to punch Tendorel in the arm.
Tendorel frowned.
Ace looked at the two of them, then sighed with a bit of frustration. “Then we need to go to Gadgetzan. How fun. I really was hoping we could avoid that city...
Espeically after last Winter Veil.”
---
“So now it was time for us to head to Gadgetzan an-”
“Vait, vait...”
Dweit growled. “Oh, what is it now?”
“Vhat happened last Vinter Veil?”
“If I tell you about that, it’s going to take a little bit of time. You sure?”
“Oh, Mr. Dveit. I azzhure you, ve have all zhe time in zhe vorld.” The disfigured goblin smiled.
