Hello Tumblr friends!

Sorry for being quiet. I do that from time to time, because you know, life…

Anyway, I know you’ve come to expect Jily goodness from me, and trust me Deerstalking: A Staggard Wild is still very much in the works.

However, I’ve recently come down with the itch to write about an entirely different ship in an entirely different fandom. Namely: Buffy/Angel (Bangel) from the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I just couldn’t stop thinking about what was happening off screen. They are such a great, tortured, fated to love each other OTP, but because the show is focused on demons-of-the-week, the details of their romance get left out.

So I’m starting to remedy that by taking inspiration from @bcdaily’s epic Commentarius (because as you all know, I’m obsessed with her and all her work) and writing out all the off-screen Bangel moments starting in season 2.

Hello dear, I'm so sorry for the suuuper late reply!

You sent this on the 18th of May and I wanted to reply right away but I had an exam the next day and two days later I got a wisdom tooth removed but I'm all good now!

I haven't read The Last Enemy yet because it's quite long but I'm going to do it sooner or later! I think I know what you're looking for, though :) I made a list of similar fics: I haven't read them but I've only heard great things about them, hope that works for you!

I've talked about The Life And Times maaaany times (check my #tlat tag) and yeah, it was my introduction to Jily and probably the only long canon fic I've read so this is my first recommendation (I'm sure you're already familiar with it but I wanted to include it anyway)

Commentarius by @bcdaily another similar fic! It starts in 7th year and it's an old school Jily fic and one of the most popular ones. It's not complete yet but I believe the author is planning to update it :)

Come Together by @thequibblah is great, too! It starts in 6th year and so far I've only read a one-shot that takes place in the same universe but I fell in love with the style and the characters!

Bond and Free by @clare-with-no-i is one of the fics I've been trying to read but I can't seem to find the time; I've read other works by the same author so I definitely recommend it!

The Award

As promised, here's the project I've been working on since the end of 2021. Can't even believe it has almost been TWO years.

Got the idea for this one-shot after being inspired by @bcdaily's A Proper Shot. Not even sure if this can be considered a "one-shot" since it's upwards of 9k words... BUT it's a fic nonetheless :)

Lily Evans hated Eldon Elscrickle.

Well, maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration. She didn't hate Eldon Elscrickle, per se—she just hated what he stood for.

After travelling to Africa in the 17th century, Elscrickle learned the Alohomora charm from an ancient sorcerer. Upon returning to England, he used the simple charm to break into numerous homes around London, including Muggle ones. When he was inevitably captured, he traded the knowledge of the charm in return for his freedom.

Okay, so maybe he wasn't the most laudable figure, but apparently, the Ministry was willing to overlook his transgressions in order to create the Eldon Elscrickle Most Promising Newcomer Award.

How did you get into jily?

This turned into a rather long answer, but that's rather unsurprising since when I edit a chapter it seems to jump 3k, right? 😅 😂

How I Got Into Jily Reading

My journey into the world of Jily began, like many of you, in the captivating realm of Harry Potter fics (about a decade ago). My initial foray into Jily failed to capture me – I don't know if I was reading in the wrong space (I'm looking at you ffn.net) or if this was just popular at the time – but a lot of what I read fixated on James' persistent pursuit of Lily (often depicting harassment) and "missing moments" that revolved around teenagers (nothing inherently wrong with teenagers, I just found it difficult to relate).

So I ventured beyond the familiar pairings, exploring all sorts of HP characters before being drawn back into Jily during covid. It was then that I discovered authors (@ghostofbambifanfiction @bcdaily @theesteemedladydebourgh @missgryffin & fetchalgernon ) who wrote muggle au's and canon divergent fics that portrayed Lily and James in healthy, enthralling, adult relationships (or very mature teenagers!). The relationships and characters are all magnificent! These authors enveloped me in the warmth of their craft and anchored me in the Jily world. I am still obsessed with all of their writing and happily forsake whatever I'm dong to inhale their latest chapters : D

How I Got Into Jily Writing

I've jotted down a few fics over the years, but never published anything. I impulsively signed up for @jilymicrofics Valentine's Gift Exchange this year. I was a very passive part of fandom before this and had no tumblr account, no AO3 etc. I kind of just signed up to everything on a whim and then @charmsandtealeaves invited me to join all of these servers and suddenly I was in, people seemed to like my Valentine's Fic and in the throes of enthusiasm I committed to a micro a day for March. That month unlocked a flow of creative inspiration and I've been delighted that the writing has kept coming.

Becoming active in the Jily community has not only provided me with a plethora of new (to me) talented authors, but also allowed me to put names to stories that I read many years ago. I now have a vast TBR list and am eagerly looking forward to reading every single one of them : D
