(to know more about the story and the calendar on pre-order check out previous posts!)
July is Lance's birthday and they all take him to the sea just to frolic around. They end up doing way too many tricks in the waves and rolling through the sand. When everyone else is busy figuring out if they should wait until sundown to roll out or go back now, Keith and Lance sit by the waves, talking. That’s when Keith takes out a ring. He tells Lance can take it without promising anything, he just thought that for Lance's birthday Keith can offer him being there for him, giving him whatever he needs - and he could keep the ring to remember him by, to be sure he is always accepted and protected by him, that they are each other’s. To make it even less pressuring, it’s not a shiny cute engagement ring, but just a simple one, like promise rings should be. Lance is so touched and surprised, he lacks words and just bulldozes Keith into sand.
"Is it a yes?!" yells Shiro from the sidelines and Keith just "okays" from the ground, before grappling around with Lance.
There is both a dog whistle and a disappointed awwing at their PDA, but their companions just mostly laugh it off. Allura still watches them, shielding her eyes from the sun, before murmuring “they always remind me of the sexual tension between me and an oncoming train.”
Everyone bursts out laughing.

headcanon that Merle carries around little notecards as a memory aide with scribbled notes and names of spells that he's able to use.
sometimes (oftentimes) he drops some of them which explains why he just does not remember he can cast certain spells fairly often, and sometimes (...oftentimes) Taako and Magnus et al. slip extras into his stack which explains why he occasionally tries to cast spells that he's unable to use

"Selfless: The Dao of Becoming a Room"
A Palisade nano-fic
🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣
In Phrygian [lounge form].
Brnine: "...so what do you like about uhh...being a room?"
Phrygian: "It's nice, you know. It's relaxing. I feel like being a room is all about truly letting go. Like finding a posture that is both good for you and easy to do."
Brnine:*remembering Saffron's recommendation to correct their slouching: "heh yeah. Posture."
[palpably awkward silence]
Phrygian: "The key thing is —and this is important—when you become a room you really need to become the whole room. You can't do it halfway. This is why you don't also see me in the room too cause I gotta let myself just be the room."
Brnine: "uh huh!"
Phrygian: "That's what those icebreaker guys never got. They never even came close to getting it. But it's not like they ever asked how I felt about it. Cause why would they, you know?"
Brnine: "yeah. I'm sorry if you feel... bad remembering all that."
Phrygian: "Thanks. Yeah nah it's fine. I actually got a lot more out of them than they got out of me, if you can believe it. "
Brnine: "oh. Cool~"
Phrygian: "...You wanna try the cereal? Figure says I'm getting better with the dried berries."
Brnine: "uh!..."

//END FLASHBACK
Palisade spoilers below the cut, specifically honesty and integrity
I like to think about how Brnine assassinated Dahlia as a regicide by passion paired with technical and biological consequence. I could describe it as "trying to be a self absorbed princept running two divines (one of which is supposed to be a tandem divine) while also trying to be a Project Deck7 style room is like spreading yourself super super thin. Risks include loss of focus, unintended soundproofing, and extreme blood loss if compromised."
But I prefer to think that Brnine specifically realized that Phrygian's torture was this piece of shit's insane vanity project and the disgust became more personal and violent than Brnine had ever felt about anything in their life. Partway through the fight Brnine flashbacked this conversation and intuited that Dahlia not only must, but could be defeated in this opportunity.
You can try to spread yourself into a room-like shape, but to truly be a room, you gotta let go of the self.
Selfless.

Clearly trying to capitalize on the Willy Wonka craze (the movie had come out a year earlier), General Mills introduced "Mr. Wonderfull's Surprize" cereal in late 1972 in the test market of Buffalo, New York. It came in chocolate and vanilla flavors and boasted that it was the "only cereal with a creamy filling!" which featured corn puffs filled with, basically, frosting.
Tumblr media
While it was a big hit with kids, it horrified parents, nutritionists and others who found it to be over the top with its sugar content, and the following article appeared in the New York Times in September 1973:
WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 (UPI) —A group of nutritionists and consumer organizations criticized today a new cereal being test‐marketed by General Mills.
The critics called the cereal a sugar‐filled “junk food,” and urged the company to scrap it.
The product, called Mr. Wonderful's Surprise, is being sold so far only in Buffalo. It consists of about 30 per cent sugar and 14 per cent saturated fat, according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a privately financed consumer group that hopes to get the product dropped before it gets out of Buffalo.
The cereal consists of hollow “puffs” with cream‐filled centers.
A General Mills spokesman, Graham Molitor, said, the attack was a case of “chasing ghosts with sledge hammers.”
Graham Molitor's colorful analogy aside, the popularity of the cereal simply meant the national launch would go forward; the cereal was available from coast to coast the following year. In apparent attempts to win over moms, the promo and marketing people at General Mills went to great lengths to portray the sugar bomb of a cereal as somehow nutritious or healthy, which was laughable and probably only made the controversy worse.
Tumblr media
After continued protests, the company finally threw in the towel and pulled Mr Wonderfull from store shelves sometime in 1975.
