Oh i almost forgot. If you have many theories about Jk's chart of fs you should also consider opening your own blog about it :) Don't take it personally, but it would be a shame that all of your theories only gets credits on my blog rather than yours :/ Think about it ^

I would've done that but i like to be anonymous and I dont have any problem with your blog getting credits because I'm here just to learn and have fun.This isn't my main focus in life but I'm free for some months because of maternity leave(I'm 7 months in yayyyyy!!)I'm probably the oldest person on this blog too ig because i dont think anyone on this blogs a 92liner.

I came up with something more and this is something i'd REALLY like for you to give your more than two cents on.

So I started this study like a year ago and its about the possible placements your fs can have.i kept doing it for a while and then i thought about how juno,bride,groom,dsc PC's would be much better to guess the fs chart.

By studying his bpc and his NC I have a few guesses about his fs' possible placements/dominants.

1.she IS definitely having strong cancer placements.(no explanation needed)

2.it can also be that she may have strong 4h placements OR can be moon dominant.(if not the 1st guess then this)

3.mars in 10h or cap mars or mars in a cap degree.(guaranteed success)

4.leo placements or degrees or prominent 5h placements.(creativity,childlike,fame,etc)

5.sun in 10h or sun at leo/cap degree.(same as 3 and 4 guess)

6.pluto-venus aspects,Venus/lilith/pluto in 8h/1h.(magnetism,envy,jealousy,obsession,inference,rich spouse)

7.virgo rising or its degrees on asc.(she's blunt and a bit sharp)

8.gemini Venus or venus in Gemini degrees.(this venus sign is compatible with libra venus and he has geminivenusin bpc too also talking about her having venus-pluto aspects this sign kinda suits it)

9.Sun/moon/saturn aspects.(daddy issues)

10.jupiter in 2h,4h or 11h.(rich family background,big communities, finances and luxuries)

11.this one is random but i see her with a leo mc or an Aries mc OR mc in those degrees.the possible risings with these mc's could be cancer,leo,Libra,scorpio.

12.the above 4 rising signs make the most sense to me.when it comes to his fs I imagine someone soft but sharp.she MAY have these rising signs with virgo degrees.

I have more guesses but they're random.

Talking about the age gap thing,my husband has two stelliums of scorpio and virgo with Libra Moon and I'm 7 years younger than him so ig we wont have to worry too much about Jk's age gap choice because i dont think he'll go for someone MORE younger than 5-7 years of age gap.

-> Cancer placement is big to me as it's literally his DSC and the Sun in the BPC! So the spouse will def have cancer placement in her big 6! Otherwise it can't be her lol! And it has to be something that Is very significant in her chart, something you can see on her easily. Like "you give me cancer vibes" stuff like that lol

-> She def has placements in her own chart about success and fame, she literally is destined for that

-> For the virgo, def on her big six, idk about ascendant because she gives me the vibe of being so beautiful, and I'm not saying virgo asc aren't pretty but asc Virgos have that cold and stoic beauty. They look pretty distant. To me she maybe has that mysterious beauty like scorpio rising, or charming beauty like libra rising. Could also be cancer or pisces rising! Virgo rising can be a thing but it wouldn't be my first guess. but don't mark my words on it, I wasn't very successful at guessing people's asc lmao

-> For the Venus, it would either be an air one (libra, gemini, Aquarius) or it would be something that aspect his sun (either conjunct so virgo Venus, or another one that aspects his sun). Or also libra Venus for the conjunction or another that aspect. JK will def have that sense that she is the one for him, so anything aspecting his Venus or sun will work out. (a good aspect too so conjunct, sextile or trine)

-> For the age gap, I don"t wanna assume things but it doesn't seem like jk will marry that late and I saw some readers say they'll have 10 years of difference of something but in I absolutely don't see it?? On his chart, I saw placements that indicates 1-2 to 5 years of difference max? She is not that young compared to him. She LOOKS very young, but she isn't, this is what I see! The cancer placements are always very tricky lmao! And if people keep saying they'll be together in 2027 (JK's Saturn return, he will be 29) so 19 if ten years of difference???? idk that seems odd to me, I don't sense it. I feel like she'll be working and be in her successful time at the time!

Faye Stats Meta 01 - Bases & Growths

Going to start a series of metas on Faye (and probably my other muses, honestly) to go over their gameplay aspects and how they contribute to how I would like to portray/view them here! Honestly I find this very interesting for Faye especially, considering her position as a very malleable unit thanks to SoV’s Villager system. However, this post will focus much more on the numbers involved in her stats rather than the classes, which I plan to do next.

It is true that FE2/15 is a game with infamously lower growth rates compared to other Fire Emblems, but even if the numbers can sometimes mesh together, I believe they are still capable of telling a story about the characters. This is doubly true for Faye, one of the totally original units when it comes to SoV.

I will start with providing the images of her base stats and growth rates (posted successively), and then break down each stat one by one. Credit to Serenes Forest for the provided images!

STARTING LEVEL: 1

Yes, I believe this is a crucial piece for Faye characterization! Faye is the only villager to start from scratch at Level 1. Gray begins at 5, Tobin at 3 (both already able to promote without any training needed), Kliff at 2, and even Atlas gets to be 10. She needs the most EXP-feeding out of anyone to even get a start in the Deliverance.

HP: 19 BASE & 40% GROWTH

Faye begins with the 2nd-lowest HP stat, with the lowest being both Silque and Genny at 18. Her 40% growth is also rather below-average, with the pre-promoted units, Est, and Kliff, and Clair being the only ones lower. More people tie with 40% still, so there isn’t much to truly say here other than she starts off more frail than the others and can struggle to catch up through normal means.

ATK: 8 BASE & 40% GROWTH

Faye is actually the 2nd strongest Ram Villager, as Gray has 9 ATK and both Tobin and Kliff tie at 7. It is still a below-average base stat when compared to others in the game, but it fits her early-game recruitment period. In fact, Faye and Gray share their ATK growth as well, while Tobin and Kliff share a 30% growth. I wouldn’t immediately point to this as Faye being capable of getting physically strong, but I believe this generally suits her burning motivation to go on this warpath for her friends.

SKL: 1 BASE & 30% GROWTH

You can’t get any lower than this for a base, shown with how only Kliff shares 1 SKL with Faye. Even with the relatively low base SKL of the other villagers, this definitely paints Faye as the least-experienced of the four, even with Mycen’s training. Her SKL growth is also rather low, being the 3rd-lowest in the game due to Python & Nomah tying at 25% and Mycen at 10%. With a lack of an actual battle background outside of her training, it’s easy to see why she would struggle in the SKL department.

SPD: 2 BASE & 30% GROWTH

Faye is once again at the bottom in this stat, only tying with Valbar and fellow villager Kliff. I imagine her footing while fighting (especially early on) to be very unstable and she lacks the ability to easily follow up, even in a game where the required speed to double is as low as 1. Her 30% growth this time around is actually more on the average end, as most SPD growths turn out to be lower than the best ATK or SKL ones. Still, she is unlikely to become as nimble as the Deliverance soldiers or even Kliff, who has an impressive 60% growth!

LCK: 6 BASE & 30% GROWTH

A base that isn’t below-average! Out of the four villagers, only Kliff beats Faye in LCK with a base of 10. Out of all of the growths as well, LCK appears to be on the lower-end, meaning 30% is not the worst to have in this situation either.

In my head, there’s 2 main ways to take the LCK stat: as pure, actual luck or as a link to the gods. I do not headcanon Faye to be particularly religious, but nor would I truly consider her a “lucky” person. All in all, I’d lean more on the idea that Faye can be fortunate at times and wouldn’t overthink this stat.

DEF: 3 BASE & 40% GROWTH

More low stats, though there are a couple of 2s and 1s throughout the cast belonging to squishier mages or clerics. Delthea and Tatiana share the 3 DEF, which I think suits a girl like Faye who has more experience training in offense rather than training in defense. Her 40% growth here actually…looks to be a bit above-average? I actually quite like this, as Faye strikes me as a resistant person who would refuse to back down until absolutely necessary.

RES: 6 BASE & 3% GROWTH

RES is a fickle stat in SoV, with everyone in the base game having either single-digit RES growths or a straight-up 0% growth. Faye's is above-average for the starting party, with only Kliff (once again) beating her with a base of 8 RES. RES is obviously linked heavily to magic, but back at home I don't really think Faye had much exposure to such. 3% is still one of the higher growths in Alm's army, so I would probably connect this to her defensive ability and refusal to give up easily.

ITEM: ORANGE

Girl gets to bring a little snack on her roadtrip! But in all seriousness, I see this as Faye mainly bringing along a reminder of her home, a place that she holds very dearly. ...something to eat on the way helps too.

TOL./FATIGUE TOLERANCE: 0.4

For those unfamiliar, TOL is the stat used to determine how quickly units get tired during dungeon battling (it shows up for normal battles as well, but has no direct gameplay impact). As for Faye, 0.4 is the lowest the stat can be, and without a way to grow or change it, she remains as one of the only units that will tire easily during dungeon-crawling. At least Kliff shares this low tolerance with her as well!

SUMMARY

To be honest, with 30%s and 40%s all over her growths, I do wish more flavor was put into Faye's stat spread. Even so, I also appreciate the way this embraces the adaptability of the villager class. The way that stats work in SoV, in which the unit immediately obtains the bases of the class they promote to, makes her easy to work with even with her low start. (Do note that classes slightly change growth rates as well, but I will mainly consider that for Meta 02.)

She is also the only female villager in the game (at least when not considering Pitchfork DLC shenanigans), meaning she gets access to gender-locked classes such as Cleric, Pegasus Knight, and Priestess (from promoted Mage) that the other boys cannot reach. I believe this is what mainly leads to the high variance of portrayal of Faye's classes, as the Drama CD uses her as a Pegasus Knight while several Cipher cards have her using white magic. (For reference, Gray/Tobin/Kliff get Cipher cards that stick to their base interests stated in SoV.) And then there's the case of FEH making her a bow unit, which...I'll stick to covering in Meta 02.

Another small note: as I mentioned in the ATK section, I don't really consider Faye to have great physical strength, considering that SoV makes STR and MAG a single stat rather than the way other FEs do it. If I could, I probably would make Faye have a slightly below-average experience in STR and a slightly better chance in MAG, though this could depend on her chosen class route.

let me ummm dump about the whole thing here real quick. so overall, its great !! and like it feels like it hit me way harder cuz of how long the wait was between the updates so i was just like getting residual hype in the background from wanting it to be complete and then when i saw u actually post about it was all like: It's feasting time. and like it was so worth !! the story doesnt need to be super complex to suck me in but it still had like really interesting elements to it that like make more sense now considering the direction u went

like, for some reason i expected it to be more wrapped up even tho i kno thats not really your style so i didnt even consider it going this direction BUT that also means my first post may be more true further into the story like arcen questioning his whole motivation for this and the whole bannon clan and also more stuff about vance and and. ugh this is also one of your strengths where combined with the exposition and worldbuilding and characters and the small bit of story we get to see it really makes it seem like theres a whole world with a grand long story to tell if we were to ever explore it which is SO COOL but at the same time kills me a lil bit knowing ill never have like 300 chapters of your comics ...

that leads me to ask, do you have a lot of ideas for your comics that dont make it in or do you just have this small story you wanted to tell and then had to come up with all the stuff around it to have an excuse to make it? like, "ok, cool design just dropped. i wanna have him fight some other guy cuz its cool." and then coming up with a motivation for the mc and the whole story? or is it more like you already had some plans for characters and a story like this and then just had to execute it?

but umm yeah i def like this more than tenfold rings EVEN THOUGH tenfold rings has the same strengths and it was still great but this feels like you took that in stride and then made a more polished pilot for a potential longer story, aswell as having like way more of a settled(?) artstyle... ?? ok at this point im just saying words but i mean its even more flowy and the pacing is suited exactly to my taste and the paneling is really cool and the art is kind of like janky on purpose? like working with a pen with no line weight change or tapering and then allowing some parts to look super off-model to exaggerate the characters better while still having a lot of cool perspective shots and composition, n then also not trying to make aspects look too polished like some lines in the background will be going to the middle of nowhere but the overall composition and look from afar is so strong it doesnt even matter (it kind of makes it sound like an insult but this is great i tell u bc i spend way too much time focusing on polishing some random thing no one will care about) so basically you kno where to put your strengths and what people will actually pay attention to so you dont have to spend too much work

the action for me is also way more readable i remember being a little lost in some panels of tenfold and it wasnt exactly focused on action so it didnt matter too much but everything in vxh is readable and that makes the action scenes feel like ... awesomesauce swagaliciousness !! ive gotta say i aspire to learn your ways because therses so many cool small things i keep noticing on rereads that you did with the art and i especially love the paneling and use of contrast IT JUST LOOKS SO GOOD !!

im sorry though that you had to fight thru artblock n burnout to just get it out, def fine with you doing whatever for your next projects as long as it makes you feel more comfortable with creating the stuff and without burning yourself out n all that :v whether its more pilot comics or some longer form thing or some other medium idc!! u can probably tell im insanely rabid about your art so ill literally take whatever you make. and this is like supremely strange to me because im never obsessed with anyone elses art so i guess you somehow managed to scratch that itch no one else could thus far :O

Daemon AU Posting

I got this idea from @thecryptidgrey who made a post about BG3 Daemons. I'm a big fan of Daemons as a concept and I could not stop thinking about it. So here's my Tavs and their daemons! (Def borrowing some ideas from the OG thread which you can check out here)

Info under the cut! Warning for some spoilers for BG3 including Dark Urge spoilers.

Raerlyn: I think Raerlyn's Daemon is a Unicorn! Her name does mean Unicorn in Elvish after all.* Additionally, I think symbolism of it fits her. It's a noble creature, mysterious and magical. I like to imagine her riding around on its back doing kickass paladin things. I also think because there's that strong connection with nature that works with the Elvish background. Her story also really heavily revolves around the preservation of her family's history and the cleansing of evil, which I think works well for a daemon. (Also imagine her giving her girlfriend a ride on her unicorn daemon. It would be CUTE!!!)

Mona: Mona's daemon was unsettled before she ended up meeting her patron. She's an Archfey Warlock, and when she was like, 10, she wandered into the woods after being locked out by her family and got snatched by the fey. So her daemon got a little fucked up by her fae patron. She has a Barn Swallow, with really beautiful feathers, small and resilient just like her. Only hers is covered in nightcap mushrooms. It's a scary sight, but much like her, despite the sinister and gloomy appearance, she's a softie at heart.

Karella: Karella's daemon is a black swan. I think it suits her- she feels a little outcasted herself, being a half-drow. She's very distant from her peers, but there's something intriguing about her. Mysterious, rare, and hauntingly beautiful. Also swans mate for life and she is so so in love with her wife Mona which I think is sweet.

Heir: A lot of people assert that Tieflings don't have Daemons, which I think would add to some of the historical prejudices against them. So I like that as a concept! But I do have an idea of my own to expand upon that point. They do have souls obviously- but much like the polar bears in HDM, they're stored elsewhere. In the horns! A Tiefling's horns are extensions of themselves and breaking/losing them is physically and mentally destructive. (Karlach fans get some angst there to play with >:]). Heir's horns aren't his soul however because he's not a Tiefling- he's a Bhaalspawn. I imagine Bhaal never gave him the other half of his soul, so he feels a little incomplete, like he's missing something.

Dynasty: As a Tiefling, Dynasty's soul is in his horns. I'm still workshopping the symbolism for horns, but I believe his smaller, more turned in horns probably relates somewhat to his sneakier tendencies. This man is a rogue after all. I like to think he spends a good amount of time caring for his horns and also fusses over the other horned party members to take better care of theirs.

Pysansha: I think his daemon would be an otter! They're often associated with playfulness and curiosity, which i think suits him. He spends all his time exploring the world around him and he loves to learn. But just like an otter, he's not afraid to fight back if needed. I also think he likes to wildshape into an otter to match his daemon. They'd be so cute.

Lucky: They absolutely have a deer for a daemon. Quiet and fast just like them, but incredibly gentle. Also I think its funny because the deer is a good foot taller than them. Halfling problems. (When the others have a bad day their daemon will run right up to them and drop random plants in their lap. This is how Lucky communicates.)

Mara: Mara definitely has a ox daemon. Strong and stubborn, but also exceedingly loyal. She might find it hard to change her mind sometimes, but when she cares for someone she'll do everything in her power to protect them. Also I think she would love to paint her daemon's horns and decorate them with jewelry and stuff. Plus I find the idea of her as a monk with a bigass tanky daemon a bit amusing.

Rywan: He has a boar daemon! She's surprisingly cute looking for a boar, with big old eyes and really soft hair. She will still maim you though. I think it fits Rywan as a barbarian- boars are strong, but wild and untamed. Stubborn too, which is kind of Rywan's whole thing. They also have very specific mythological symbolism, which if you can guess will probably reveal why his daddy issues are so terrible. The boar also 100% carries smaller daemons around when they get tired. They're cute like that.

Clahalvanna (Vanna for short): He does not have a daemon! This is for reasons he refuses to explain to the others. He is weirdly attached to that seashell necklace of his though. Strange.

Take Advantage | Randy Orton Story  (Part One - Intro)

Disclaimer:  This story is an AU of its own. The WWE history is pretty much the same, but the personal lives of the characters/superstars are fictional. Canon Characters are based on real people with an emphasis on kayfabe storylines. The events in this story are completely imagined and do not reflect true events.

Background/Recap: After a big mistake at summer slam, OC (Y/N) finds herself in an even more precarious situation with The Viper.

It had been a long night at Summer Slam. I had been invited to a party at the hotel to wrap up the event.  I had been an on-screen manager for Matt Hardy for a while and had been declared “one of the boys,” by him and his brother Jeff. When they decided to throw a party in their suite, I knew they wouldn’t take no for an answer. I hoped the party would be relatively small, but I had no way of knowing. I arrived at the door to the suite wearing a tied-up Def Leppard tee and a pair of tight black shorts, and my worn-out Timberland's, figuring it all would be pretty casual. It was a completely different look than my ringside glam attire, though my hair and makeup were still done from earlier in the night. Though my hair was let down for the curls to fall loosely rather than pulled up into a ponytail.

I was greeted by Jeff who immediately pulled me into a huge hug, my first instinct was to tense up as I nearly dropped the bottle of Jack I had in my hand. Jeff had just won the US Championship title so I knew his excitement was through the roof. Matt however, wasn't as fortunate in his match and was more or less sulking from his loss.  

“Congrats Jeff!” I beamed as he finally let go of me from his bone-crushing embrace.  

“Come on, let’s get you a drink, it's time to celebrate!” He said, grinning ear to ear.  It always worried me when the boys were drinking, knowing their track record, so I had hoped to stay somewhat sober. That was, until I walked into the suite and noticed who was in attendance. When I saw AJ Styles chatting with one of the other guys, I immediately twisted the cap off the Jack Daniel’s bottle and took a swig. Jeff seemed to notice.

“Ah, shit, I forgot...” Jeff said, cringing. I smiled to him wearily and squeezed his shoulder gently.  

“You know, it’s fine, don’t worry about it.”

“If he gets out of line, let me know,” Jeff said, giving me a nudge and a wink.

A few months earlier AJ and I had gone on a couple dates that went absolutely horribly. We had zero connection and when I told him it wasn’t going to work out, he flipped a lid, called me every name in the book, and caused quite the scene. He didn’t take rejection very well, apparently. I had done a pretty good job at avoiding him until this point since he had moved to RAW and Matt was on Smackdown. I took another swig from the bottle, returned Jeff’s wink with one of my own and made my way into the party.  

I mostly stayed to myself, hiding from AJ as much as possible, sipping from the bottle as often as my anxiety warranted. It didn’t take long for me to catch a strong buzz. Jeff checked in on me from time to time, stopping to share a swig of my Jack with me. Matt was avoiding me, I knew he was frustrated that my “distraction” in the match backfired and cost him the loss. I was about to make my way to him, to try to talk things out when the door to the suite opened. I nearly choked on my Jack as The Viper himself walked into the room. The man Matt lost the match to. They had been in a rivalry for a few months and my failed distraction was what let him retain his title. My heart sank with worry as I quickly looked to Matt. He stood up and stared at Randy, I was ready to bolt in between them if I had to, but to my surprise when he walked up to him he extended his hand for a handshake that turned into a bro-hug instead of taking a swing. I sighed in relief. After their gesture, Orton looked my way and gave me a wink. I wasn’t sure whether it was a no-hard-feelings kind of thing, or a this-isn't-over one.  

The party continued and I traded Jeff the bottle of Jack for a Rum and Coke in a solo cup. At this point I had forgotten my anxiety and was far from sober. That’s when AJ found the most opportune time to slide up next to me, slipping his arm around me.

“You know, sweetheart,” he said, “if Matt fires you over that whole thing, you know, when you tried to distract Randy but he gave Matt that RKO out of nowhere... You can always come manage me.”  

I gave a disgusted scoff and pushed away from him, turning so quickly that I ended up running straight into someone and spilling my drink all over the both of us.  

“Shit, I am SO sorr-” I froze and lost my words as I looked up to see The Viper standing in front of me, staring down at me.  

“I suppose I earned that one?” He said with a slight smirk. I hung my head with a sigh.

“Damnit. Come on, I’ll clean you up,” I said. Without a second thought in my inebriated state, I grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the bathroom, Stumbling the whole way there. I locked the door behind us. I started the hot water in the sink. “I really am sorry about that,” I said. “Give me your shirt, I need to get that stain out.”

He shrugged and slid off his now stained t-shirt, handing it to me. He then gestured to me, my shirt also soaked, “what about you?”

I looked down, noticing how wet my shirt was. The smoothness of his voice washed over me and without a second thought, I untied the knot in the tee and slipped it off, revealing my red lace bra. I barely noticed Randy’s look of surprise at my action, knowing he didn’t think I’d actually strip out of my top in front of him.

“What?” I said, “it’s not much more revealing than half of my ring attire.”  

When I reached for his shirt, his strong hand grabbed my wrist. I looked up at him slowly, noticing his impeccable abs and chest. He truly was the embodiment of a Greek god. When my eyes found his intense gaze, he didn’t say anything. I was immediately mesmerized by him. The feeling of his touch sent a shock through me that I couldn’t explain. I had never been attracted to The Viper until that moment. He slowly pushed me against the countertop, leaning over me to whisper in my ear.  

“So, now, I have you all alone...” His words sent a shiver through me, his breath on my neck causing my heart to pound.  

Instinctively, I moaned with arousal. His hand grabbed the side of head firmly, tilting it up to look at him. I bit my lip, staring into his intense eyes. My hands found the rim of his jeans, gripping his belt and pulling him close against me. Our faces were only centimeters apart. The anticipation was killing me, I wanted him. I wanted to feel his lips crash onto mine, to feel his hands explore my body. 

“I want you,” I whispered seductively. “Take advantage of me.”  

He moaned now, I could feel the bulge of his pants against me. The tension was thick as he was about to kiss me. A knock at the door interrupted us.

“Hey, (Y/N),” came Jeff’s voice, filled with concern, “everything okay in there?”

Randy pulled away, his intense stare finding my pleasing eyes until he finally said, “... not like this.”

Just as quickly as everything had happened, he walked to the door and opened it. He slid past Jeff and exited the hotel suite, still shirtless.

Jeff looked into the bathroom; his eyes widened as he saw me. Quickly he entered the bathroom and closed the door. Before I could say anything, he was sliding out of his shirt and handing it to me. “You okay? What happened?”  

My head was spinning and my emotions hit me like a brick wall. I felt rejected, naïve, confused, but most of all, just drunk. Tears brimmed in my eyes as I lost my footing and slipped. Jeff was quick to catch me, I looked up at him, his eyes filled with sincerely and concern.  

“What did he do?” Despite his soft gaze, his voice was angry. He continued to hold me; his embrace tight.  

“Nothing,” I said, my voice cracking. “Nothing happened.” I was realizing my vulnerability and began to cry. Jeff continued to hold me, running his hands through my hair to console me.  

“Hey, it’s alright,” he said. “I’m here.”  

“Nobody wants me,” I mumbled into him. Clearly my mind was beyond a state of coherence. I had always been a low self-esteem kind of drunk.

“Oh, darlin,” Jeff whispered back, “don’t say that.”

“It’s true,” I pouted.

“(Y/N), I’d be willing to bet there’s not a man in that room out there who doesn't want you.”

I pulled away slightly to look him in the eyes, quietly asking “even you?”  

Jeff looked down with a sigh, kissing me gently on the forehead, “come on, let’s just get you back to your room so you can sleep this off.”

you've found a neat little oddity here, actually, which is that it isn't Optimus who hears the former Matrix bearers, it's Orion! when he powers up into Optimus, he essentially absorbs-becomes-assimilates his relic, like shrugging on a selkie skin and becoming more than the sum of both parts. the former Matrix bearers are an aspect of what goes into creating Optimus, but it isn't exactly distinct, not ghosts or voices or guiding hands to direct his actions. no, it's Orion the youngling who hears them speak, or heckle really, gets a sense of who they are/were and what they want and feel and urge him to do. the Matrix is, fortunately, not a very autonomous relic, unlike some other ones with annoyingly strong, uh, personalities. it's not difficult to tune them out if he doesn't want to listen, but it can get irritating when he's trying to pay attention in class.

there are rare exceptions, however, occasions where Optimus encounters what lives within the depths of his relic...

not really, yeah. they EXIST, they're a form of information storage for Cybertronian neural networks and spark scans, as well as being integral material in medical life support systems and hotspot harvesting infrastructure. it's not the Matrix that produces them, however, and there isn't anything particularly supernatural about them. they're in the same general category of resources as sentio metallico, innermost, and rarified or super energon.

nope! that is definitely in the realm of "special talents"/outlier abilities that don't show up naturally in SNAP's storyline. at least, for the normal people. those with relics have plenty of weird abilities, and if Underbite was supernatural, that kind of power would practically be tame in comparison to some of the stuff the heroes do.

that said, there are some random one-off things people can do, just because sparks and thus frames have unique coding with sometimes unpredictable results. Swerve, for instance, discovers in Maccadam's class that he can identify different chemical compounds and materials by taste, with far more accuracy and nuance than the average mech. just a random thing! but hardly supernatural, which is def what increased strength and healing would be.

but perhaps... if things were different... Underbite would have that ability naturally? (side note but can you imagine trying to wrangle an ENTIRE ACADEMY of TEENAGERS with inbuilt abilities like eating anything or forcefields or freakin invisibility like. someone would die on day one just from a hallway fight.)

i mention it just a little bit here! the difference is more of a meta category than an in-universe term. in short, major relics are major pieces of power consolidated into a usable form, a relic, that will create such a strong bond with the user that they get an entire array of upgrades and powers, with the downside of being totally beholden to this one major relic and incapable of using another major relic (unless you are a loadbearer). minor relics are smaller pieces of power consolidated into a usable form, creating a less all-consuming bond with their users which means a very small set of minor powers and little to no upgrades, but capable of being used alongside other relics, even major ones.

the swords of the Elite Guard, for example, are all minor relics that came linked inside the major relic of the Enigma of Combination. the distinction between major and minor is a little more blurry than that, and some relics are right in the middling area of power that means they might behave as if in either category.

people in-universe don't really have this distinction aside from the mythology and tall tales about the magical tools wielded by the Knights of Cybertron. the Star Saber, for example, is so famous and well recorded that it's actually found a place as a name, like Star Saber the Academy teacher!

yknow what, you're right! there's definitely some sort of insertable/wearable seals. they wouldn't be permanent, and they'd certainly be bulky and uncomfortable, and some may actually require a medic to insert. they'd get in the way of ventilation, cramp joints, and rub against important lines and protoform. just sticking things into seams and under armor is actually incredibly uncomfortable to the point of triggering something called entrapment protocols, a panicked paralyzed state that can be debilitating if the physical intrusion causing it isn't removed.

because of how diverse and unique frames are, there's no standard seals, and some frames just have too much open space to actually seal, making swimming impossible. so, it comes down to 1) is your frame capable of being sealed, 2) is the discomfort worth it, and 3) can you actually get the seals put in place and removed afterward.

not so easy as putting on a bathing suit, huh.

as for murder via water, yeah! that's definitely a thing, that murderers do! but combat... there's not really combat, not like i believe you're thinking of. there's no war going on, there's no standing army so no drills or training, in fact combat and violence and weaponry in general are very much frowned upon under functionism. i'll quote the relevant part of that post here:

Makeshift. Makeshift would adore pineapple pizza. Frenzy would like it, Rumble would HATE it. Predaking would tolerate it and Blackarachnia would pick off the pineapple but still eat the pizza.

Starscream would refuse to touch any pizza with pineapple on it, and Skywarp would eat some just to annoy him, even though he's not a particular fan of it. Thundercracker doesn't really care either way. Megatron likes it okay but avoids it so Starscream doesn't make a giant fuss about it. Blitzwing is disgusted but doesn't make a show of it. Nightracer will eat anything she can get her hands on, good or not, but she picks off the pineapple because Red Alert likes pineapple, and she wants to give them to her.

Ariel likes strawberry pizza better. Moonracer likes chocolate pizza better. Firestar thinks the both of them are heathens and won't eat pineapple pizza. Chromia doesn't like pineapple anyway. Arcee eats it just for the Experience.

Minimus doesn't personally care for it but maintains that anybody can eat whatever they'd like. Windblade doesn't like it and will publicly decry it. The two of them have probably debated over this a few times. Orion doesn't mind it and doesn't have any opinion about it, and is mostly baffled by the arguments over it. Hot Rod is a living vacuum and will c o n s u m e regardless of pineapple or not. Deadlock likes to gross anti-pineapple people out by messily eating it in front of them. Blurr doesn't like pizza very much, it's the tomato sauce.

Fave 2021 national finals songs

Since I don't have anything better to do with my life at the moment I decided to ramble about stuff. Okay, here are my thoughts about my fave songs from the national finals of 2021, in no particular order!

Norsk Melodi Grand Prix

• Monument was my absolute favourite and I still can't believe to this day that it didn't win :( Keiino are fking fantastic and they killed the stage (though I kind of preffered the black outfits from the 1st heat over the final ones, they suited the song's athmosphere better). I cried real tears when I saw they lost, for real. Heartbreak 💔

• Hero was such a nice throwback to 80s music style, the staging was also really neat. Would love to see Raylee come back next year in the selection, she has a cool stage presence

• Okay but Vi er Norge was a banger and I'm still listening to this one, a real shame it didn't even qualify nor win the 2nd chance round. As you already knew before, I have a weakness for violins because yes. The performance was so energetic and fun, should have def qualified. Underrated.

• Ut av mørket/Fallen angel was really good too. I wanted it to be kept in norwegian for esc but oh well. The stage show was just a tad messy but memorable.

• I can't escape was something I'd hear from Roxen ngl, the style matches her perfectly, even her cursive singing, everything. Either way I loved this one too, this song feels like a hug.

• Pages was so magical, I'm glad we got another joik song, sadly this didn't qualify 😥

• World on fire was kind of generic but puts me in a good mood everytime I listen to it, it's really catchy.

• Let loose is so g r o o v y and cool, it was my fave from the 1st heat when I got to listen to the songs. I'm lowkey happy it advanced to the final instead of Elevate, I'm sorry but I saw everyone praising that one in youtube comments, I never saw the hype, it was too regular and plain for me.

• Own yourself was so cute and funky, loved how it showed her ethnic background a lil with that disco sound.

• Witch woods...ehhh...While it's funny and unique, I think it's suited more for a witch Disney musical than Eurovision. But I like it anyway.

• Faith Bloody Faith oh yes I needed a rock song in this nf. Relieved it won the 2nd chance. Oh and I just realized, the superfinalists in mgp were literally the ones from the 1st heat. Crazy huh?

• Nordlyset is something I'd listen to near a fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate in hands watching the snow fall in my cottage located in a forest far away from civillization. So soothing and beautiful <3

• Eyes wide open was epic just like his 2020 viking schlager song (i prefer his 2020 song over this one but that's another story)

Melodifestivalen

• Little tot was amazing but def not as good as Bulletproof. It's still catchy asf and one of my favs from this selection.

• Dandi Dansa aka a banger, again another catchy song.

• Every minute sounds like a summer hit, it's awesome. It's also the spawner of all those haha eric on a kitchen tile memes I've seen around during that time.

• The world and especially Sweden wasn't ready for the masterpiece called Rena Rama Ding Dong. They should tone down their preference for safe pop songs and choose meme worthy songs like this one in the future tbh. They didn't even qualify, Sweden = coward.

• One Touch is a fun club track, I can see this as a summer hit as well. But her stage show...go girl give us nothing

• In the middle, once again The Mamas delivered.

• And finally Voices, which its nf staging was superior to the esc one. We are so sorry Tusse 😔

Festivali i Këngës

• Zjarri Im a total banger, it wasn't even in the top 5 ffs Era Rusi queen.

• Njësoj has such a nice party vibe, should have qualified.

• Haven't paid any attention to Karma until it won, then I said hey this isn't so bad, it's traditional and ethnic, I can actually see Albania in the final with this.

Dora

• Rijeka was the only one I thought it will win by a landslide and I was surprised it didn't. The staging was a bit too over the top, though

• Tick Tock grew on me after it won and quickly became one of my faves of this year's esc. I'm still sad it didn't qualify 😔

• She's like a dream is super uplifting and also sounds like an 80s song.

• Colors is something I heard a million times before but for some reason I'm jamming to this? Also I heard she's blind, is it true?

Eesti Laul

• Took me a while to have a fave from this nf but after some listens Magus Melanhoolia stole my heart 🧡 it's so different from the others and the staging looked so proffesional.

• Lost in a dance had me d a n c i n, I noticed we had a lot of 80s throwbacks in this nf season, this included. The live was so dissapointing though 😔

• Not so keen on 6 at first but now I absolutely love it, she has such a nice style and the song's athmosphere is so magical.

• Time was amazing, surprised it came 2nd!

• I actually liked The lucky one lmao, I found it much better than his previous entry.

• Heaven's not that far tonight was the party 80s bop we didn't knew we needed

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix

• Probably my biggest letdown of this nf season but I actually managed to like Står lige her, digging the electro 80s (again) sound

• I also liked Øve os på hinanden as well, this one really feels like a legit 80s track rather than a throwback.

• Silver Bullet was interesting as well, it was the early frontrunner when the songs first came out from what I remember.

Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu

• I love you is so wacky and catchy, and in finnish! I'd hear this as a soundtrack in an old video game.

• Dark Side was the definite winner ever since I heard it, and they even got a top 10 finish for Finland for the first time in years! Couldn't be more proud 😭

• Hurt was also one of my favs, Aksel needs to come back to esc, maybe in 2022 methinks 🤔

• Wait what is Laura Põldvere, an estonian singer tm doing in finnish nf? While I liked Play, I knew it wasn't strong enough to win, and she even came last. Do you get any flashbacks from another estonian entry with the same name that came last? 👀

C'est vous qui decidez

• Voila was the clear winner and that's about it, she deserved the win, it's just too beautiful for this world 😭

• Alleluia was an interesting sound of afrobeat, too bad their chances were killed because of messy staging :(

• Amour fou was so catchy and I loved the horse head thing lmao

Pabandom iš naujo

• Discoteque all day any day. The Roop world domination 💛

• Where'd you wanna go is so calming. I listen to this when I'm stressed and it works wonders, this was really beautiful.

• Open is so unique and soothing, a total contrast from her 2014 entry.

• Never fall for you again is a total earworm, even now as I'm writing this...even if I haven't listened to it since February.

Sanremo

• Zitti e Buoni was my instant fave, it simply stood out from the others by a lot.

Festival da Canção

• Por um triz is a beautiful ballad, was my fave.

• Saudade was the early favourite, reminds me of Telemoveis with its weird but artsy style.

Israel NF

• ...I really only liked Set me free tbh.

• La la love had a good potential but I can't not cringe at the corona reference like...ugh. Such a fun party song killed by one lyric, such a shame.

Russia's NF

• Just Russian Woman was the only one who deserved to win.

Spain's NF

• Yeah, they were both good but I liked Voy a Quedarme more.

Karate & HWS Japan

honestly wanted to do this because... I wanted to do it lol. I’ll be making posts about various martial arts, their history, my own personal headcanons abt the nations, etc. I’m a practitioner of martial arts myself, mainly shotokan karate and taekwondo, though I’ve trained a lot in basics of several other arts and styles (judo, aikido, jujitsu, arnis, kung fu, etc). I also have background in stuff like the history/philosophy, though I am not an authority and am only human, so this is my perspective only. and feel free to ask me anything abt any of this, my background, or martial arts as a whole! or let me know if you’d like to hear more about karate or another martial art idk. I would love to discuss :)

alright here we go:

karate has some really interesting origins. it began among Ryukyuans (an ethnic group of the Ryukyu islands south of Japan) notably on the island of Okinawa, and Chinese visitors introduced their own martial arts over a couple cultural exchanges in the late 14th century. this is a mostly unarmed striking (hand techniques & no weapons) art, a fact that was reinforced by a Japanese weapons ban and some other politicking that occured over the next couple centuries. anyways the art began to be centralized by a few key figures in the 1800s, and was popularized/standardized in mainland Japan starting in the early 1900s, from where it eventually spread to be the worldwide practice it is today.

I definitely see there being a personification for Okinawa through karate’s formative years, and I for sure see them resentfully striking up a friendship with China as a way to assert a kind of independence from Japan. (I’ll prob make a separate post abt the origins of kung fu.) China has a really rich tradition of martial arts, and he’s totally teaching Okinawa various forms (kata), seeing as many karate kata are very close to forms from kung fu. however, this doesn’t last into the 19th-20th century: we know China/Japan relations have never been very good, and as karate became more popular in the early 1900s, the characters used shifted from 唐手 (Chinese hand) to 空手 (empty hand, both pronounced the same) because of that animosity. (Japan def took Okinawa’s art and made it his own during this period, while Okinawa probably started to resent that/feel alienated.)

speaking of Japan, I think he’s really in tune with the spirit of karate. a central idea is harmony between mind and body; having control over oneself in all contexts, having the physical strength to accomplish what you need to, and having the ability to make quick and decisive actions are all facets of this idea. (a famous saying: 一拳必殺, ikken hissatsu. or, as my instructor likes to put it, “one punch, one death.” it’s a concept the practitioner needs to keep in mind with every repetition— that’s what you’re training to accomplish.)

another big part of karate philosophy involves constantly pushing toward perfection, while understanding that perfection will never be achieved. I’d like to think Kiku gets a lot of comfort from this consistent growth in a way that connects head, heart, and body. it gives him a place without anxiety or fear, where he doesn’t feel like he needs to be a pushover or otherwise accommodate others.

also, karate is very powerful in that it’s all about channeling energy up through your whole body into a singular point. when you punch something, you’re not just using the muscles in your fist and arm, you’re grounding your legs in a stance, you’re twisting your hips, tightening your core... at impact there’s a moment where every part of you is completely solid. anyways I feel Japan is quite stressed all the time, and practicing kihon (basics) and kata (forms) with this level of technique is a great refuge for him and a way for him to sharpen his focus while also blowing off some steam. it’s precise but strong, calm but fierce, deliberate but quick... idk I think karate just suits him a lot.

and he’s very proud of it! its worldwide practice, all the dedicated practitioners, the growth of its philosophy, its inclusion in the 2020 olympics, etc. he def has some quiet disapproval towards what it’s become in the west (3 month black belts at McDojos etc) but he still has lots of respect for anyone who tries their hand. especially kids and the elderly!! those 90-something year old dudes who are still punching concrete with their huge scarred fists... I just know Japan seeks em out to hear what they have to say.

The Untamed vs MDZS Anime: Which is better?

Going to japan now. Currently in the plane. The in flight tv is broken. So... ive been watching mdzs on youtube!

Hot damn the animation is beautiful. Every frame is a work of art. How the hell. Its so beautiful. I mean they use 3D a lot for the backgrounds and boats but its still gorgeous and not too jarring. The lighting is so realistic, scenery too. All the fighting choreography is beautiful. The way the swords swing in the air looks so fluid, and when swords clash its in flashes of light the color of their sword. Such a tasteful yet stylistic choice. Everyone's, esp wwx, hair is so flowy, so detailed every strand sways in the wind. The waves reflect light and move smoothly. How the hell did they do that. How. I was thinking of doing those screencap redraw thingy with the scene when wwx whacks lwj's boat. (they also emphasised how far lwj's boat was sinking into the water, which makes it more convincing how wwx can deduce that theres something underneath vs the live action where lwj's boat looked normal..) it was damn beautiful. The thing is, the point of these redraws is that the animation looks simple, so the redraw would enhance the scene. But for mdzs, everything is already in peak quality, redrawing it will only look worse. Its like writing fanfiction of books. The original writing is so damn beautiful, fan fiction ends up being such a stark difference that the reader cant help but compare the 2.

Drama, as everyone says, shows better facial expressions due to the live actors, so emotions hit harder. But anime def LOOKs way better in all action scenes. Angles that follow the characters are used to emphasise scale between enemy and chracters, and all the movements feel so dynamic, and i love how when they use talisman spell thingies they got a circle of light in an intricate pattern thats super beautiful. In the drama, its just a piece of paper.

However, i prefer drama's lwj. Maybe cos wyb looks so young, its more believable when he freaks out over the adult book that wwx gives him in the library scene. In the anime, he looks 20+-30+. Its a bit hard to believe that he'd be worried over that. Idk theres a kind of innocence and naivety that leads to the stubborn refusal to express emotion that young lwj is plagued with that we have in the untamed (was this intentional on wyb's part or is it because the teenage lwj wig made his eyes look floaty, so he seems more like a teenager and naive, less experienced as a cultivator vs lwj 13 years later? Dk but it works!). In the anime, he looks like an adult thats calm and level headed already from the get-go. Idk maybe i just havent watched enough (only seen up til the water demons in caiyi town). In both anime and drama, everyone and i mean EVERYONE besides the fricking babies looks the same 13/16 years later. It doesn't feel like time has passed at all. I wish they would have maybe a change in costume, or hairstyle in the anime. The drama at least changes their costumes a little and neatens the hairstyle of jiang cheng and lwj to indicate maturity.

Btw i love that in the anime for the water demons section they had wwx and jc casually chatting (though its a blatant cornetto ad which is fricking weird. How can there be frozen treats back in those days), then wwx beautifully catapulting himself onto a boat and rowing away showing the unique and romantic af mode of transport in caiyi town, then smoothly transitioning to the lan bros on the bridge right above them with lwj asking why lxc decided to bring them along. Its just tying together so many scenes, quickening the plot along and yet doing it so naturally and seamlessly compared with the novel and drama.

Though i like that the drama involved wn and wq and have wwx save wn, and makes way more sense why wn would want to risk his life to help wwx recover his parents fricking corpse illegally right under the nose of wen chao and wen zhuliu.

The anime removed the entire mystery plot of a yan and the fairy goddess statue and thats honestly the best best best choice to make. In the drama, it was one of the worse sections ever cos i didnt understand who all these random ass characters were (it was one of the first mysteries in the drama) and yet it didnt go into detail like they did in the novel, so not only did i not know what was going on, i also didnt give a single shit about the characters. When i saw that they completely did away with the random passer bys who screwed around with the fairy statue, i was thoroughly impressed.

I liked that the drama let nhs have his own trouble making moments tho, like having him sneak a live bird into class. It makes it more convincing that wwx would be friends with him because they both have a mischievous side that they can both appreciate in each other. In the anime, nhs just looks like a loser nerd thats weak in swordplay and does wwx's homework for him, without a will of his own. It doesnt make sense why wwx would keep him around. Then again, maybe itll make the reveal that nhs is a conniving mastermind more impactful for the anime, oh well only time will tell.

I liked that lxc and lwj look similar in the anime. Its more convincing when people call them the twin jades of the lan clan. In the drama, they hardly looked like brothers. Lxc looks more like lwj's mentor or teacher rather than an older brother. In the anime, they look more siblingy.

I miss drama wen ning. I rmb when he looked so fierce and terrifying in his first appearance. I was legit intimidated. Oh how hes changed! Hes so fluffy now. In the anime hes equally menacing. His fight scene with the statue goddess was so beautiful. Doesnt it take a long time to animate the chains moving so fluidly yet dynamically yet somehow looks like it can disintegrate rock in an instant? The lighting on it too, how it reflected the fire of the forest around them. Have i mentioned how beautiful having that fight scene at night was? It was dark and ominous looking, yet the fire cast an epic looking light over the scene with warm orange glows. And the animators had that fiery light reflected in anything they could find: eyes, chains, swords.

Ooh but jiang cheng's whip looked prettier in the drama than in the anime, which is kind of weird given they were both cgi-ed. Somehow the lighting of the whip in the drama was brighter, looked more like real lightning vs the whip in the anime looking a little dull, like they colored it then added a gray filter. This is kinda bizarre given the laughably bad effects of the effects for everything else in the drama. Visuals for non human things is not the drama's strong suit, so it makes u wonder what happened for the anime whip. Maybe in the dark, the lightning would have to look hella bright and reflect on the surroundings (tedious to color) more so than in the day, hence why it looked worse in anime vs drama. Oh well.

As for lan sizhui, its weird that his voice is so deep in the anime (and audio drama!). Ive always seen him as a kiddo thanks to the live action, so hearing him sound mature is kinda off-putting. He sounds like a leader, and gives off lwj vibes vs in the live action where he gives a goody two shoes studious nerd vibe, whos just trying his best. Maybe this is better, he feels way more like a lwj-raised child(serious and business-like) which makes more sense. Live action lsz feels like a wwx(optimistic and intelligent) AND lwj(well-behaved and sensible)-raised child. Anime lsz looks like hes got his shit together. Jinling is fairly similar in both, maybe less prideful in the anime (in live action theres the scene where im pretty sure he indirectly kills one of his men by wishing for the fairy goddess statue to come to life. That was a hella asshole move. This was omitted in the anime.) Jingyi in the anime somehow looks snarkier. Maybe cos he straight up duels with jinling and kicks him down a dark cave. Ive been wondering why all the tumblr posts depict ljy as this sassy ass short tempered kid when he was quite tame (though sassy by lan standards) in the live action. Now i know.

The costumes for the drama is better, more detailed though thats expected i guess. I just love that they have little white gusu lan clan uniforms that wwx jc and friendos are required to wear. Its so cute and such a cool detail. In anime, theyre all in their usual garb, and they just look like random people who decided to turn up at lan qirens class. In the drama, it looks more like a school that they have to attend for half a year and it feels characteristic that gusu lan clan would require their students to have a uniform, given their incredibly strict regime type. It also serves to separate the happy carefree school days from all the other tragic af events in wwx's life. His costume starts out white showing innocence and purity of his naiive teenage years who had yet to experience hardship and still feels invincible as a youth. After school, he wears dark blue, as he goes on an adventure with lanzhan and experience how important the yin iron is (gives up the joking light hearted nature as a teenager by realizing the gravity of situation if the wen clan gets their hands on it) and maybe that hes not truly part of the jiang clan who wears purple. Then his costume eventually becomes black as he experiences his first life and death situation that he isnt sure he can handle. That child like assurance that "oh the seniors will let me off" or "im sure jiang fengmian will come to my rescue" gets demolished when he undergoes cruel indoctrination at the wen clans. This visual development may be a bit on the nose, but personally i love subtle representations.

Overall, the anime does do a better of job of explaining the world's mechanics, which is quite important. The drama is quite faithful to the book, at times even more so than the anime, so it irks me that this is the one thing they decide to skim on. The god damn premise, the first thing the audience needs: why the hell is wwx alive again and what is mo xuanyu doing?? I guess the drama thought that it explains itself but it doesnt really. It was really confusing. The anime, though somehow faster than the drama, still has the time to properly explain mxy. A technique ive noticed is that they do exposition during the fight scenes, which is so ingenius. Its visually appealing, as always, so its not boring, the viewers gets to understand whats going on AND it gives the sense that the characters are so skilled that they carry causal conversations while fighting supposedly weak enemies like zombies and water ghosts, which is accurate seeing how wwx and lwj and friends are supposed to be one of the most powerful cultivators.

TL;DR both are good lol

so like what the hell is the plot anyway?

when it was going to be in a fanfiction format, i was going to make it revolve around Robin(naturally, she’s my favorite character) and Steve(who is my second favorite) so it revolves around them, but i might change that

Missions start flooding a local bounty hunter guild concerning reports of kids being taken from planets by a group of people nicknamed “Scoopers” to be pitted against one another in an underground fight club. The mission to uncover the operation falls on the head of the guild, Hopper(who’s a washed-up Mandalorian bc i said so). Robin, a rookie bounty hunter, catches wind of the operation and persuades Hopper to take her with him on the mission.

Meanwhile, Steve(a spice runner) is on his way to his next client, who just so happen to be the “Scoopers”. 

they all meet at the base and things happen. cant spoil jic this is something i end up pursuing

on his homeplanet(its probably named Hawkins), he underwent knight training along w Nancy and Jonathan.

(you might notice some similarities between his outfit and the ones Mike and the other kids wear in the previous post)

Steve and Nancy were very much together, and they were the top knights in the program. Both were up for the position of the prince’s personal knight. The identity of the prince, until coronation, was unknown to the public, and so when Jonathan selected Nancy for his personal knight, Steve skipped town, and eventually, skipped planet altogether. 

but he didnt plan ahead, almost got his ass handed to him by some ex-hutts, and scrambled back to Hawkins. Joyce, who i think would be accurate to describe as the Queen Matron of Hawkins, gave him a chance to work at least as a top officer. 

during his return to Hawkins, Nancy gave him a pretty cold shoulder, only adding to Steve’s sense of displacement. 

he was given the task of hunting down some spice runners who’d stolen a bounty from one of their quarries, and fueled by resentment, he joined them instead. 

on one of his spice runs, he came across a rather wealthy Wookie family. he noticed, however, their son was rather sheltered, and took a keen interest in the business Steve had come into

it took him exactly three weeks for him to realize the kid had snuck onto his ship. the disappearing rations didnt occur to him until the packs were near empty.

he decided to take him with him on his spice run when the kid expressed extreme turmoil at home with his magnate family. but Steve sees himself more as the babysitter friend than the mom friend, having made a silent vow to return the kid(which was promised to himself after one adventure, which turned into five, and now they’re up to fifty. It’s been a couple years.)

so now he just does spice runs w dustin bc every story needs a lone star and a barf— i mean a han solo and chewie

god will anyone ever think of the children

no bc the teens are more interesting in s2-3 imo

Mike, Will, Lucas, and Max are all going through knight training on Hawkins. Lumax is a thing, and Byler is starting to be.

i dont get caught up in those ships too much and just try to go w whats canon since they’re kids for the most part

the whole plot kicks off w Mike and Will getting kidnapped(well, mostly Will and Mike just so happens to be there so he’s taken too)

and Lucas and Max go after them.

At the underground fight club they’re taken to, Mike befriends the top fighter who’s named Eleven because she’s the 11th force user they’ve managed to find. and eleven is,, dare i say,, unusually strong in the force

Nancy can use the force, Jonathan and Mike can’t. Will is force sensitive.

i guess i should mention if its not already obvious but Lucas is a Rodian and Max is a Twi-lek

Extraction: The Day Sexy Violence Wasn’t Enough

I was hearing a lot of chatter about Thor's new joint - "Extraction".

I originally wasn't interested, because... well...

I look at the rest of The Avengers, right after "Endgame" -

Capt hung out with real thespians in "Knives Out",

 and now on his way to make a real dramatic mark.

(idk what Jacob did... something he ain’t have no business doing, by the look of his eyes, but Capt has got him)

Black Widow - made us feel with "Marriage Story" 

Iron-Man did a movie for the kids... I think... or this is just a typical weekend for RDJ.

However, Thor said "Give me a bunch of guns and send me away to shoot brown people."

You're better than that, Thor! Plus, I don't really want Chris Hemsworth serious. But, like I said - CHATTER. So, I'm onboard!

Plus, perhaps the best thing for us, in the midst of this pandemic, is to stay inside with sexy ass Chris Hemsworth, and watch a dumb action movie. I don't need nothing deep. I don't want to think right now. Just give us sexiness and killing.

Thor wanted to get as far away from Disney/Marvel as he could. From start to finish, he's looking for somebody to kill.

I guess he also kinda looks like he’s looking for the bathroom. I mean, he’s going to kill people on the way there, but he’s looking... and he doesn’t know if he’s going to make it.

It did take a lil work before they could shoot the movie though, so I’ll rewind a sec. The last time that we saw him, he looked like this.

He had to hit the gym, switch to some light beer (Workout Note: You can't cut beer completed; that's something that crazy people do. You also can't completely cut out pizza. I know they say you've gotta cut breads out, but... that's fake news). Some weights, some squats, half a pizza (instead of a whole), and some light beer. And if you're still not getting the results you want - get lots of money, go to the doctor and the stylist, and you too can look like this - 

I believe that we were all created by God, but some were made on a budget, and others look like Chris Hemsworth.

Now, we're ready!

The plot of this movie is simple. A kid gets kidnapped, and Chris Hemsworth needs to save the day.

That's it.

Chris plays Tyler Rake , who's family was tragically taken from him. You can't get much more generic action hero than that.

We find Tyler jumping off cliffs into the depths of the waters for fun/cuz he's a lil suicidal, and sitting down at the bottom to meditate (even at the bottom of the water, his hair looks amazing). 

From the get-go, you know that Tyler Rake is a bit off.

This mold of generic action hero (we'll say "action star", I think after a certain body count, one can't be considered a "hero" anymore) will be keeping liquor stores in business 

(another workout note: unless you've been engineered by the gods as Chris has, don't try working out on a whiskey diet - it won't end well for you)

, having teammates look at him as if he needs help (which he does), and bad guys aren't going to stand a chance. He has lost his family, and decided he's going to be crazy for the rest of his life.

This movie is in the hands of the Russo brothers (directed "Infinity War/Endgame"). They both brought some depth to the Marvel Universe. Fleshed-out Thanos. Made us get in our feelings.

They said "F that! We're just going to shoot people!"

And that's all that this movie is. I'd tell you more, but there's not much more to tell. Ever meet someone who, for better or worse, they are their career? - that's this movie. It's Tyler Rake killing people... lots of people, to save one kid... whom he just met.

Sometimes, they tried to go a lil deeper. There's a moment when the kid (the kid has a name, but no one in the movie bothered to learn it, so why should I?) starts asking Tyler about his family. Chris is crying his ass off, and the boy keeps asking him questions. Can't you see this man is hurting?! Ya jerk! In this moment, I should have felt something for Chris, but I didn't. I think I got up to get something to eat (maybe I'M the jerk). But, that kinda stuff isn't this movie's strong suit. Let's keep it moving!

Back to bullets, knife fights, rockets, people getting hit by vehicles, and blood spray!

As for that kid - parents teach your children how to run. This kid's form was terrible! Every time that he ran, he frustrated me. Chris would shout "Stay low! Stay behind me!" Nope. He couldn't seem to get that right. Plus, he's so lanky. You gonna get Chris killed, sonn!

I guess this is a decent pandemic movie. A good movie to make-out to... if you don't mind screams of dismemberment in the background. Whatever floats your boat. Like I said, the action and gun play in this movie is right on; if that doesn't get your juices flowing, Chris Hemsworth will:) His prettiness def saves the movie a lil bit. 

Whenever he got into a fight, I felt the need to shout "Not the face!" 

When he was close to fire "Chris, your hair!"

Grade: As good as the action is, something is missing in this movie. David Harbour is in this, and he's great, but not in it enough.

There's a guy that matches Chris's skills, who's really good at action, but he doesn't say all that much.

There's a woman in here who matches Chris's prettiness,

but she's just there to tell Tyler that he's gone too far, and to shoot a rocket (which is bad ass though).

I don't think that this movie is "dumb" enough. It's def not smart, but... it doesn't go enough in any direction, and it takes itself just a lil bit too seriously. It's kinda missing a soul.

I can't say enough about some of these slick action scenes, but at the same time, it felt like I was watching a really good "Call of Duty" game starring Chris Hemsworth. 

I could have just played COD and hung a pic of Chris above my Tv.

I give it an unfortunate C-

There are prob some military fanatics that will enjoy it more than I did. 

"Dude, did you see that blah blah blah 17 with the blah blah... clip... latch?"

"Yeah, bro, that blah blah blah was awesome... blah blah blah."

But, I need a lil bit more, personally.

Though I guess it's still a good make-out movie. Although, I would have had to stop periodically.

*kisses* "Baby, stop a sec. See, that was a perfect opportunity to build some character... to make me care about what's going on. The praphit needs connection."

*kisses* "Wait, wait... Chris has a close-up."

*attempted kisses* "Not when he has a close-up, ok??! We talked about this!"

I had higher hopes, but... still decent.

Ok, so SPOILER ALERT

2 things:

1) There's a villain in here (I didn't mention him, cuz they didn't do much with him). The pretty woman that I mentioned sneaks into the bathroom where the villain is. The villain is finishing up peeing at the urinal, and next to him is the pretty woman, who shoots him in the head.

I wonder though... was she there peeing at the urinal? - like... does she have something going on down there?

2) Tyler Rake dies... or does he?

The kid survives, and is at the bottom of a pool, meditating like his "hero". When he comes up for air, he sees a blurred image that looks a lot like Tyler Rake.

Possibilites:

a) Maybe he gets adopted by someone who looks like Chris Hemsworth (as if)...or who got surgery to look like him.

b) It's one of the other Hemsworths who adopted him.

Kid: "Were you the one who was with Miley Cyrus? Yeah, that's pass for me. I can't have a guardian with such poor judgment."

c) The kid is crazy

d) Ghost Rake! Yes!

e) Tyler is alive! And he was resurrected by witches.

Regardless, I'd be up for a sequel. I'm rooting for "Ghost Rake" and something going on down there with the pretty woman.

nancy drew thoughts!

so as a disclaimer, i read a few of these books as a kid, and more so religiously played the computer games. in terms of that content being turned into a cw tv show, i feel like that amount of background information is valid, lmao 

overall: it wasn't the best pilot i've seen, a lot of information dumping, a bit plodding and tedious, and it seemed like the cold open was really important but i was also confused. and i thought it really could use some more humor---not what the books are known for, but honestly i'm getting tired of deeply morose teen dramas. (like, i think i enjoy watching sabrina so much because it does have a string of wry wit and some brevity in the campiness) (largely coming from zelda, but) (anyway)

“darkness” word count: so far, just the one. but i got my eye on you 

literally dark scenes: too many. had to turn off the lights. a lot of riverdale adjacent cinematography when i wanted more weirdo small fishing town things. but again, just a pilot.  

other than that, i thought it seems like it'll possibly be a fun watch. mysteries when the point is contained, serial mystery and not just throwing everything at the wall are always good at harnessing multiple genre elements. so i see potential here. the books often veer towards supernatural only to have a sharp pivot when nancy proves it's not, so i'm not entirely sure how they'll work it out from all the ghosts she's seen (and we the audience have "seen") but i expect them to, for now. 

it’s also interesting to pit core book characters as suspects with individual motives and few else. it feels like a move without a whole lot of teeth--on the other hand, it’s nice to introduce nancy’s generations-old friendships as strangers as it lets us engage more with them. however, it puts the spotlight on ol what’shisname, but idk. anyway, watch him be actually a hardy boy. (not joking)

casting: george is great. she was funny and snarky and lightened up a lot of scenes. bess is a worse veronica, i hope she grows on me because i was distracted by how little her face moves. she did have a funny moment tho! i heard the dad was supposed to be freddie prinze jr originally and it’s a real shame, he would’ve brought a lot more energy and charm to the role. sorry, stunt-casting-dad-i-don’t-recognize

the nancy casting was pretty strong, i felt like the actress did a good job at bringing to life a decades old titular character and making her feel young and modern. she seems like she could straddle intense and funny and i can def see her growing into the role. i also like her being an ex-popular-possibly-mean-girl because that’s a really interesting spin on Famous Blonde Characters For 300, Alex

that being said, i also feel like i pictured lili doing this role a few times---betty references nancy drew many times and it’s obviously a recurring theme, but i always felt like that was the role really best suited to both lili and betty. alas, that’s obviously not a thing, so whatever lol 

the ned/nick casting was fine, but the romance felt blah for me; rarely does it bode well for a couple when they open a series as together. it just doesn’t give you anything to root for, anything to follow, so i don’t think it was a good move if the intent is to create #ships (which is obviously what drives fandoms, lbr, and what the cw is always after) (but mysteries are really nancy's true love!)

basically: as a procedural so far it's real bad lmao, there's tons of elements that are glaringly bizarre from even a standard-tv-legality pov, but i guess the whole point that drives the nancy series in general is that the police are absolutely inept, and that's why nancy's there in the first place. 

but again, pilots have lots of squeaky rushed moments. and, as a mystery cw show, as long as it doesn’t dawdle too long in “darkness” copouts, i think it might be fun! worth coming back to and giving some more episodes a go, for sure.
