The last few days I have shifted over to a study of language and deconstruction, I have finally finished my readings of Derrida as well. From there I moved to postcolonial theory, which is one of my huge special interests.
If anyone would be interested in talking about literary theory, feel free to contact me!

(This post is related to the study technique that @macgyvermedical mentioned in this post)

well i just haven't been around for a couple weeks now huh?
school and mental health have been really difficult; I've accomplished so little over the past two weeks and i can't help but feel like i can't possibly be trying hard enough :') I'm genuinely like.. a little concerned i might not be able to graduate this semester, which doesn't feel very good at all
BUT!! I have about 5 weeks to really try and get to where i need to be, so I guess that's my goal now, to lock down and crank out as much as possible and hope i can pull it together into something passable (i mean, id like to have something well-done that im proud of, but i think a C is a kinder and more realistic goal atm lol)
we got a ton of snow yesterday and it's been raining since, but we need the water and it was nice to see the snow after a very dry winter 🌨️☃️❄️

okay I've been having some of Those Days, and it really sucks
the best description I can give is my brain just shuts off all of my executive functioning
I don't work, I forget to eat or drink, I struggle to do tasks like laundry or showering even more than usual
I usually just end up reading whatever sounds good and listening to music while pacing around all day
while I do get days like this in general, they seem to be worse and more frequent after heavy executive functioning use like when I'm really productive or I have to be an Adult(TM) and interact with others
so I get the feeling that they're a necessary part of my brain functioning, I just wish I had a bit more control over them bc sometimes I REALLY need to be able to function but my brain is just like NOPE no functioning here, sorry

Finished all of the work I can currently complete for my classes! I had a productive first week of class and I’m already having a much better year than I did last year. Also met with the rest of the Improv team board (i am the secretary) to discuss our upcoming events.
I’ve also found that doodling in my notes helps me focus and feel engaged with the content. It’s not necessarily the most aesthetically pleasing, but it helps me think a lot and I’ll do whatever I can to make studying and note taking easier for myself. Below is a doodle from my Intro to Visual Arts notes.

Music Monday!
Music is super important for so many people. Feel free to reblog and share what music you listen to when you're working, studying, or otherwise just getting things done!
No judgment here, only tunes. Let's share what we're looping and hopefully find something new to power through the week with!

Study mode activated. I have a 3-5 page paper to write for my forensic science class. I feel less stressed about this one than I did about last week’s. I’m also really proud of the gun I drew, especially since I’m nowhere near being an artist. Yay forensic science class!
My study buddy is here keeping me company. I’m on my second page and have taken my second Ritalin of the day to focus. I may drink more coffee later on to help focus my brain when the Ritalin wears off. ADHD is so much fun…

Recently I have been reading into Biopower and Biopolitics which finds its origins in Foucault. Agamben's "Homo Sacer" has been extremely interesting, especially because I wish to do some more research in Disability Studies. I am looking forward to reading Lennard J Davis.

While not studying #0
Topic: Why Im starting the series?
I'm starting a series of posts where i talk about things i do while not studying, to:
give other students ideas on how to rest;
motivate myself to find new ways to rest.
I have been in a burnout for a really long time, I also just left music school (i might post on why in the future). I never got to LEARN how to rest. Resting is a pretty basic activity, but to us, neurodivergent gifted kid burnout people, it's a lot harder due to anxiety, overstimulation etc. etc..
We have to remamber that: RESTING is a SKILL.
My whole life (well, not whole but most of it) I was waking up at 6am coming home at 8pm, almost no free time, I've fallen into serious depression and im pretty ducking sick od it. I decided that im going to change that, it'll be hard, but I'm determined and believe i can do it!
Follow me if you want to join me on this journey
Bye!!

Hi, I’m currently a dissertation student at Liverpool Hope University. I’m looking for participants who are undergraduate students, aged 18-29, who have ADHD. The study is investigating how Students with ADHD adjust to university and how coping strategies impact that. The study will take around 20-30 minutes to complete. For more information click the link below (will be a reblog so tumblr doesn’t eat this post).
Esther Bole (Dissertation Student)
Supervisor: Dr Marta Wesierska

If you can’t do the survey, I’d really appreciate it if you could reblog so it will reach people who can.

What a week 🥲
In positive news, I finally ordered myself a bluetooth keyboard & mouse! Look at those colors! And it has the old school, clunky keys with the grooves in the middle?? SO good to click-y clack on 😍
In less positive news... this paper is kicking my ass. I am finished reading the first book for my capstone project/paper (it was terrible. Not a fan of this man for a million reasons. 0/10 Do not recommend.) I now need to write a 5pg analysis/critique of the book, and my brain is fighting So Hard against me :')
I ended up calling my mom and just completely broke down sobbing about it, so I am now ~at~ my parents' house trying to get some work done here.. idk there's something magic about Mom and Dad's Dinner Table, yknow? Hopefully its magic works this time as well and I'm able to get a good start or outline of the paper before I go back home tomorrow morning (the deadline for this part of the project is Tuesday and I work sunday/Monday so... 🤞)
This is literally my last class to graduate with a degree I've been pursuing on and off for the past 14 years... im trying so hard to stay strong, but im struggling SO much and it makes me wanna just quit lol 🥲
Ope, dad just came out of his home office and scolded me for being on my phone lol that's a good sign to post this and return to my Daunting Tasks. (I may be in my 30s, but the dad scold is still effective and the reason why I made the trip up here 😂 )
((P.s. the mug in the photo is my FAVORITE mug ever that my parents own - we used to have an entire set when I was little but all but this mug have broken. I use it every time I come to visit.))

does anyone have advice for focusing on other stuff when a hyperfixation hits? cos that’s been kind of a problem for me these past few months :’)
and it’s really annoying cos i study spanish & portuguese largely bc language learning is a special interest of mine, i was literally hyperfixated on spanish for months last year before starting uni (v helpful for my A level exams in it!) so i’m used to having that passion and focus directed towards the language areas of my studies not away from them
