I honestly can't wait for Michael and Uriel to bitch at Aziraphale. Michael is so obvious in it that it is just fun to watch but Uriel seems to be the kind of person to do it subtly to the point of deniability while twisting the knife real hard. I don't know about Saraqael. They seem to be rather kind or at least less interested in the power struggles, but silent waters are deep so who knows.

Angel Pinky Rings
I'm going to get strangely obsessed with finger jewelry for a moment.
Please do not ask Neil Gaiman to confirm or deny.
Before the Beginning, Aziraphale doesn't have a ring:
Tumblr media
...then after the Beginning, he does:
Tumblr media
...which he wears continuously for the rest of the story:
Tumblr media
Archangel Michael
doesn't have a ring in Book of Job:
Tumblr media
and then they do:
Tumblr media
Uriel does:
Tumblr media
...even Saraqael does:
Tumblr media
...and Sandolphon:
Tumblr media
...but not the Supreme Archangel
not in Book of Job:
Tumblr media
and neither before Armageddidn't:
Tumblr media
nor after:
Tumblr media
...and not the 37th Order Scrivener:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally I thought the rings might denote rank, but Gabriel not having a ring throws a wrench in that.
Left vs. Right
Every angel that wears a ring wears it on their left hand (everyone except Saraqael wears it on their pinky, who wears it on their ring finger) except for Aziraphale, who consistently wears his pinky ring on his right hand. Furthermore, the style of each ring appears to be unique; we don't usually get a very good look at them (or at least I don't, I have kind of crappy hardware) but the differing styles seem to be meaningful to the individual. Putting it on the left may indicate that it has a negative connotation; the fact that Aziraphale's ring is on the right sets him apart.
Protecting the Ring
Additionally, all the angels that have rings, when they fold their hands, tend to cover up their ring-bearing hand, almost protectively:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Semi-Rational Theory
The rings are vessels of memory: they are only worn by angels who have transgressed against God's will, and are worn forever after as a symbol of the covenant made between the Creator and the Servant. They dump the memories of their transgressions into the ring so that their minds are made clean, but carry the mark of their prior sin with them for the rest of time. Much like a rainbow, it serves as a promise that the transgressor will never transgress again. The angels protect it because, consciously or not, they know that this ring contains a part of themselves, and it is both precious and shameful.
Absolutely Irrational Theory
Aziraphale wears his ring on his right hand because it doesn't fit on his left. That's because it's not actually his ring; it is Angel!Crowley's, and he is keeping it safe for them. Crowley and/or Aziraphale might not even know anymore that that is what it is, but by some pact between them made before the Fall, it is in Aziraphale's stewardship to keep safe until such time as Crowley can safely have his memories restored.
Again: Please do not ask Neil Gaiman to confirm or deny.
EDIT: MAGGIE HAS A PINKIE RING

spoiler!!! s2 good omens
I'm not sure if what I'm about to blabber about is meant to mean something else entirely, but I kinda thought in s2 they have sort of established, or confirmed, that Crowley was an archangel before he fell.
So, let me start with this conversation here in the second ep
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note the "only the mightiest of archangels"
Then Crowley says this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And she didn't laugh. It wasn't a joke. She didn't think it was ridiculous, she didn't mock him for saying that. It was a seriously possible scenario that Crowley did that kind of miracle (bc he was capable of such)
Then, of course, these scenes in ep 6
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He casually opens it, confirming he was high in ranking as an angel.
Then this shot follows which really felt like they were making it obvious that Crowley was an archangel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way it focuses on Crowley in this specific statement.
That's all I've got, really. But I really felt like they were making it obvious and pointing out that Crowley was an archangel.
Ep 2, in that car, the conversation they had, when I first watched it, I really 'knew' they were confirming him as once an archangel. Unless there was a rank above archangel and so, Crowley was that then.
...
Bonus, if I am right
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
then it's a running joke that archangels don't remember saraqael lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Btw, I'm not really fond or, let's say, attached to the idea of Crowley being once an archangel. Like, I don't really care who he used to be. I just made this post bc I haven't seen anyone point out how the show has been dropping hints.

To go along with the Ineffable Husbands (here!), I ended up creating designs for a few other Good Omens characters in the Hazbin Hotel style!
I have no idea why I coloured them, since I'm planning to use them in a greyscale animatic, but eh. It was fun anyways :D
Enjoy!

Hold up. When Crowley miracles Mr Brown back to life outside the coffee shop I just kind of excused it as Neil making everything okay again,
BUT
Tumblr media
Because the only time we've seen a demon miracle someone back to life is when Furfur Zombifies the Nazis. I mean I may be splitting hairs at this point but I do think it's strange that there are two references to Crowley's past and powers in the same episode (the opening of Gabriel's trial file being the first) there's also the moment with Metatron in which Crowley says he has met him before but only Aziraphale met him in season one. This may be hinting that Crowley worked with the higher ups, Crowley also says that the last time he saw him he was a 'big, floating giant head, man.' Which may be him just downplaying his association with Metatron just like he did with Saraqael by saying 'do we know each other?' And 'i meet a lot of people' and Saraqael responds with this face
Tumblr media
If that's not a 'i call bullshit' face idk what is.
I also wonder why there seemed to be almost this accusing stare from Metatron to Crowley
Tumblr media
And Crowley seemed to me, almost nervous idk I just have a weird feeling that Metatron has got something on Crowley. It could just be a 'stay away from Angels you corrupting demon' glare but it just seemed strange to do again after he glared at Crowley earlier at the coffee shop when he was walking Maggie and Nina out and resurrecting Mr Brown.
All I'm saying is that Neil Gaiman usually doesn't rehash something unless he's gonna bring it up later. The man is king at bringing back an insignificant detail from the start of the book and making it a major plot point that you missed 🤣

To me, the Good Omens angels/demons read as intentionally incompetent. Or, well, not exactly intentionally… but not exactly unintentionally either.
The best way I can explain this is with insects. An insect doesn’t know why it likes certain stimuli, but it will still go toward them. It doesn’t know why it dislikes other stimuli, but it will still avoid them.
Being a competent angel is deeply unpleasant. It requires getting to know earth and humans, which brings up uncomfortable feelings about how much heaven/hell sucks. It requires doing things that will upset the humans, and allowing things to happen which they have the power to stop. That brings up even more bad feelings, especially if they’ve been doing their homework wrt earth and humans.
An angel may not know why they feel so bad learning certain things about earth. Maybe they’ll assume they just don’t belong there, maybe they’ll look at human things as “gross matter”, but the end result is that they shrink away from the unpleasant stimulus. As a side bonus, their lack of knowledge means they’ll sometimes fumble their angelic tasks, or leave enough space for Crowley and Aziraphale to fix things for the humans afterward.
As history goes on, more of that slack creeps into the system, more bureaucracy piles up under the wheels to subtly stop things from happening, and there’s less and less divine/infernal intervention.
If you asked them if that was the intended outcome, they would deny it, even in their own minds. If they were actually aware of how much they’re nerfing themselves, that would be active disobedience, rather than a case of “ah well, it must have been God’s will for this task to fail.” So the knowledge of what they’re doing is itself a noxious stimulus, and they’ve gradually, instinctively, learned to avoid that too.
But they’re sort of doing it on purpose. It’s just that part of “it” involves “not realizing what they’re doing.”
