What Happened to Your Face?! (Klance)
My piece for the exchange I did with @kymmo-draws ! I hope you like it~!
Prompt:  They would like teen klance (13-17): Teen klance making fun of each other during puberty (voice cracking, acne, etc) then meeting again after like 5 years to see that "oH he's hot".
“Lance, it’s 3 o’clock in the morning,” Hunk announced miserably as his best friend chatted away wildly into his ear. He snuggled under his blanket, his cell phone practically vibrating against his pillow with the force of Lance’s voice.
“Hunk, time is just a concept! Like aliens! Or Keith Kogane’s pride when he realizes that Lance McClain has become the number one bachelor at the Garrison!”
“Number one?” Hunk repeated with a yawn.
“Hell yeah! I can’t wait to see that pizza-faced nerd’s expression once he realizes that he’s been defeated in all manners of seduction and popularity!!”
“I don’t even think Keith was all that popular? His older brother Shiro was, Keith was just super smart, right?” Hunk noted, snuggling deeper into his bed.
“Hunk! You’re ruining it!”
“I mean, he never even dated anyone back then, right?”
“HUNK!”
“Fine, fine,” Hunk yawned again, turning to nuzzle his pillow. “How’d you even know he was back in town?”
“As you know, I am a being of many connections and-“
“Pidge heard from her brother Matt who’s friends with Shiro, right?”
“Hunk!”
“Yeah, yeah,”
“Anyways, Matt and Shiro are going to go to the Arus Diner tomorrow for lunch and they’re dragging Pidge and Keith out as well, we need to be there!”
“For some pizza?” Hunk asked hopefully to his pillow.
“No! Well, I mean, yeah, but after I metaphorically walk all over Keith’s face with how attractive I’ve become.” Lance reasoned.
“Sounds good.” Hunk answered with a yawn of finality. “Don’t forget to put your facemask on for the night.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it, see you, buddy!”

Keith stared intently at his phone, doing his best to mimic Pidge in ignoring their brothers’ pathetic attempts at flirting.
Matt and Shiro were a trainwreck, but that flaming train was decorated with heart-shaped confetti and good intentions. If your idea of flirting was complimenting someone on their choice of pizza toppings then you needed serious help. Keith and Pidge caught each other’s eye, sending a glance at their idiot brothers as the pair chatted happily about constellations. God, what a bunch of nerds.
Pidge and Keith had a running bet about who’d manage to propose first.
The loser had to wear a dress for the wedding.
Keith managed to sneak another piece of pizza out from between the bubble of love and affection that was Shiro and Matt’s conversation, doing his best to inhale the slice before any more residual affection could infect it.
It wasn’t that Keith didn’t like the idea of love, rather he’d just never been in love. In high school, he’d been smart but not attractive. His grades had gotten him clearance to go on a diplomatic mission with Shiro to another flight program in Asia. It’d been nothing more than a student exchange, but as a result, Keith had learned a lot and made a few friends, like Regris. Regris had given Keith the full Korean skincare routine do-over, at least until Keith had shown zero comprehension of anything concerning makeup. By the time Keith was set to leave he’d narrowed it down to three steps and Keith’s acne had mysteriously disappeared. It also helped that in Asia sword fighting was a perfectly acceptable way to get fit and healthy, he’d gotten a few pounds of muscle to boot. Allura had called it a ‘glow up’ when he got back.
The loud shatter of glassware had all of them jumping, worst of all Shiro who both Matt and Keith placed a placating hand on. Keith sent a glare over to whoever was responsible, blinking when he realized that it was some tall, cute guy that was currently staring back at him. Keith blinked, a small blush dusting his cheeks, at least until Pidge barked out an annoyed ‘Lance!’
Lance?
Lance?
Lance?
Keith was staring back now, flashbacks to the kid with acne and baby fat galore. There was no way. First off, this guy was taller than Keith. Back in high school Keith had managed two inches on Lance and had used both to his advantage in every fight that Shiro hadn’t personally broken up. Second off, this guy’s skin looked nice, like Regris had also shipped him a bottle of Korean skincare magic. Third off, he was fit, and it showed in the line of his jaw and the curve of muscle in along his forearms. Keith felt his cheeks grow redder after noticing that particular bit.
What. The. Fuck.
“Keith?” Lance choked out, sounding like he was the last person he expected to meet here. And suddenly Keith found himself checking himself over and mentally wincing over the fact that he was only wearing a black t-shirt and yoga pants. He combed his fingers through his hair and managed a surly glare in response.
“Oh, hey, Keith!” Hunk greeted, walking up behind Lance with a mouthful (and plateful) of pizza. “How was Asia? Is their program any better than ours?” He asked conversationally, seemingly unaware that his best friend since preschool was having an aneurysm right next to him.
“It was fine,” Keith managed lowly. Shiro had recovered from his small bout of anxiety and looked prepared to dive between Keith and Lance the second one of them threw a fist at the other. Keith decided that it was far too dangerous to attempt eye contact with Lance and instead turned his attention to the glass of soda Lance had shattered across the floor. “Uh, are you going to get that? Or leave it for the waitstaff like an asshole?” Keith cringed after the words left his mouth, even though high school him would have high fived him for it.
Keith didn’t high five anyone, not even Shiro.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
No. Nonononononononono. Lance’s spirit had projected to a plane of existence where he was free to scream about how fucking cruel the world was. It was cruel. Miserable. And, worst of all, it knew Lance’s type.
Lance hadn’t been the only one to change, and in hindsight, he’d know that was a possibility, but at the same time, this was just cruel.
Keith Kogane was gorgeous.
Lance was dying.
Keith was currently watching Lance through thick lashes, lips turned into the cutest pout in this side of town. His hairstyle was questionable, but it somehow suited him, framing pale skin perfectly. His acne was gone, and maybe that’s why Lance was just now noticing that Keith’s eyes were in the spectrum of blue and violet and utterly gorgeous. Not to mention his voice-cracking had left him with a low, raspy voice that did things to Lance’s spine whenever he spoke.
Lance had recently come to terms with his bisexuality, but Keith Kogane was going to make him full on gay.
Hunk would never let him live it down.
Speaking of Hunk, his best friend nudged him hard in the side, forcing Lance to return to his body.
“W-what…?” He croaked, continuing to stare at Keith.
“Oh boy,” Hunk, who had lived through all of Lance’s previous crushes, muttered under his breath.
Keith seemed to not even want to meet his eyes, turning his attention to the glass at Lance’s feet.
“The glass you dropped?”
Lance had dropped a glass? Lance glanced to the floor to see that he had, in fact, dropped a glass of soda.
“Oh!” Lance looked around, finding a waitress that was side-eyeing him thoroughly. “Hey, I’m sorry. Can I get a broom or something? I’ll clean it up.” He offered. The waitress huffed out a breath before walking to the backroom. Lance snuck another glance at Keith, only to notice that Keith was eyeing him back.
This wasn’t what he’d planned at all. He planned to thoroughly ruin Keith Kogane’s life, only now Keith Kogane was ruining his.
With his face.
“So,” Shiro began, looking to play peacekeeper, “how has it been on this hemisphere? Iverson still making freshmen cry?”
“Of course,” Hunk answered when Lance seemed marginally more invested in his staring contest with Keith. “Just the other day he made this poor kid run out of the classroom in tears.”
“Classic Iverson,” Shiro noted.
“What happened to your acne?” Lance blurted out. The table descended into silence as everyone’s attention drifted to Keith.
“What happened to yours?” Keith fired back.
“I outgrew it, obviously.”
“Same. Obviously.”
Lance bristled at the same time Keith stood up and Shiro was on his feet a moment later, a literal wall between the two of them.
“Easy! Hey! Easy you two!” He ordered firmly. “Let’s not start a fight and get kicked out, alright?” He directed this mainly at Keith who sent him a look right back.
“Shiro’s right, Lance,” Hunk muttered under his breath. “This is the only place in town where the cook knows how to probably toast the cheese on their pizza for that nice crunchy char. Do not ruin this for me.”
“I can’t help it that his face looks like that!”
“Like what?” Keith snapped.
“Like it somehow figured out how to become hot?!” Lance fired back. Keith opened his mouth to retort, only for Lance’s words to actually catch up to him.
“W-what?” Keith managed, eyes wide.
“What?” Lance repeated back at him. Keith’s brow furrowed in confusion.
“You just said-”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Lance cut him off in a panic, looking as if he was prepared to turn tail and run.
“Oh my god,” Hunk muttered under his breath, turning away completely.
Keith glared at him for a long moment, looking as if he didn’t know what to say in response to that.
“Sir!”
Lance jumped, looking to his left to see the waitress from before frowning at him in disapproval. Lance was pretty sure he broke a world record for ‘fastest glass disposal in presence of sudden new crush and various friends’ because under a minute later he was shooting Keith a flustered glare as he grabbed Hunk’s arm and dragged (read: Hunk walked him over) to a booth on the opposite side of the restaurant.
“Okay,” Lance whispered, shooting furious glances over at the booth Keith was still occupying. “Change of plans.”
“Mm?” Hunk hummed, munching at his pizza.
“Only, I have absolutely no idea how to change the plans.” Lance hissed. ‘How did he do that thing with his face?!”
“What thing?” Hunk asked between chews.
“The gorgeous thing!” Lance hissed, crowing in anger when Hunk burst into laughter. “Hunk! Keep it down!”
“Sorry, sorry,” Hunk giggled. “Have you considered asking him out?” He suggested amiably.
“Me? Go on a date with Keith Kogane?!” Lance cried loud enough to turn a few heads. “I can’t do on a date with him, we were rivals for years, Hunk! Remember that one time he was walking down the hallway and I clotheslined him and-”
“Lance,” Hunk said, eyeing his pizza critically before he took a bite. He met Lance’s gaze evenly while he chewed. “What are you going to do if someone else from school sees how much he’s changed and asks him out?” He asked casually.
Lance slammed his hands on the table, scrambling to his feet and all but running over to Keith’s table. Hunk watched him go for a long moment, vaguely wondering if he’d be able to get some sleep tonight.

Make Believe: Part One
(Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | AO3)
This was a terrible idea. An excruciating, tantalizing car crash of an idea. Keith should never have agreed to this. It was everything he’d ever wanted and more. He was never going to be able to come back from this.
Careful metal fingertips traced his jaw, tipping his face up to meet gentle, storm grey eyes. He was close, so close. Keith could count each long, dark eyelash if he weren’t so distracted by the way his lungs had stopped working and his heart was trying to escape his ribcage.
“Everything okay?” Shiro asked, quietly.
“Of course,” Keith lied.
“It’s not too late to turn back.”
“It is. You know it is,” Keith said. “But it doesn’t matter. Everything is fine.”
Shiro pulled him in closer, his hand resting at the small of Keith’s back. His steady puffs of breath were warm against his neck. “If you’re sure,” Shiro murmured.
“I’m sure,” Keith said.
It was a bald-faced lie; everything was not fine. It was wonderful and devastating and nowhere in between.
Earlier.
“I volunteer Shiro and Keith.”
Keith balked, glaring at Lance with eyes too wide.
“Come on. You guys are practically married, anyway.”
“We are not!”
Lance raised his hands in surrender. “Calm down, man. I was just joking. …Kind of. But for real, you guys could legitimately fake a relationship and look the closest to the Graxari, and we need every advantage we can take.”
“Lance is correct,” Allura said. “Don’t forget, Graxarion is the only remaining supplier of rezanite we know of.”
“And we need it to maintain the pods. I know, I know. But you can shapeshift,” Keith said, looking at Allura. “Wouldn’t that be better?”
The Graxari weren’t a particularly open-minded race. Downright xenophobic, actually; they only trusted those who looked and acted similarly to them. Appearance-wise, Shiro and Keith didn’t have their starry blue sclera or the same chalky complexion, but their pale skin and dark hair were a pretty close match. But acting…?
“I do not know Shiro the way you do,” Allura said, as if merely stating a fact. And, well, it wasn’t untrue. “Remember, according to our intel, the Graxari value long-standing intimate relationships above all else. Part of the trial involves an interrogation and careful observation to verify the relationship is real. It is supposedly quite rigorous; others have attempted to falsify a relationship in the past. I cannot be confident that Shiro and I have known one another long enough to pass such a test.”
“Allura’s right,” Shiro said. He met Keith’s eyes, his gaze soft and pleading. “It’d only be for a spicolian movement. Would it really be so bad?”
A spicolian movement, and then it would be over, and the gaping hole in Keith’s chest would be torn open even further. It would be the best, worst week of Keith’s life.
“As long as you play the part, it’ll practically be a vacation,” Coran said. “And ancients know you could both use a break.” He shot Keith a subtle glance: Shiro could use a break.
And there it was. Even if were able to resist the temptation, he couldn’t refuse now. Shiro was always so stressed, so on edge. He needed this.
Keith could do this for Shiro.
“Okay,” he conceded. “I’ll do it.”
“Excellent!” Allura said, grinning a bit too enthusiastically. “I will send a message to the Graxari right away.”
“You guys are gonna make the cutest couple!” Hunk said, clasping his hands together, eyes sparkling. “You guys should hold hands. Like, right now.”
“We’re not on Graxarion yet,” Keith said, folding his arms against his chest and glaring at Hunk. He didn’t dare take Shiro’s hand now; he couldn’t be sure heat wouldn’t rise to his cheeks, and he’d be damned if he let the others see him blush.
“In due time,” Shiro said. His eyes flickered back to Keith. “C’mon. This could be fun. I know you used to play pretend all the time as a kid. It’ll be just like that.”
“That was confidential,” Keith said with a scowl, hoping it hid from his face the way the words turned his heart into the Titanic.
“My bad.” Shiro’s lips pulled up into an easy, playful smile. And just like that, Keith’s stomach filled with butterflies, flip-flopping and leaping into his throat.
Heart, lungs, stomach, lower; Keith’s body couldn’t handle a week of this. Takashi Shirogane was going to be the death of him.
Strike one.
“Why do you not show proper affection?” Their Graxari chaperone, whose name Keith had forgotten, narrowed his eyes. He’d introduced himself, but his name had gone in one ear and out the other; there was only one person on Keith’s mind. “We have been in the carriage for nearly a varga, and yet you barely touch.”
It wasn’t a good sign—their chaperone was to report to the Queens on their behaviour, which would determine whether or not they got an audience. Keith felt Shiro stiffen beside him ever so slightly, before saying, “Keith’s just a little shy.”
“You do not trust us to see?” the Graxari asked. A warning.
“Of course I do,” Keith said. He leaned against Shiro, letting him take his weight. It was a safe gesture; nothing they hadn’t done before.
Too safe, apparently.
Shiro took his hand in his. They’d held hands before, a subtle squeeze for reassurance, or a desperate grasp to hold on in dire situations. But never like this, not with their fingers laced together, fitting together just right.
And then, and then, Shiro leaned in closer and pressed a tender kiss to Keith’s cheek. Keith froze. His heart lurched; his lungs stuttered. Blood rushed to his face, and there was no doubt Shiro could feel the warmth of Keith’s blush under his lips.
Shiro smiled as he pulled away. “See?” he said to the Graxari, gesturing at Keith. “Shy.”
Keith’s face turned even redder, this time with embarrassment. He elbowed Shiro in the ribs, which only made Shiro’s smile broaden into something genuine.
“Hm.” The chaperone nodded, still suspicious but seemingly appeased, for now. Keith felt the tension fall away from Shiro’s shoulders.
It took a while to get from where they’d landed on Graxarion to the heart of the crowded capital city, where the palace was located. The city was so different from what they’d seen before; most of the places they visited had much smaller populations. Here, twisting, colourful skyscrapers reached higher than the eye could see. A mix of futuristic and old-fashioned, animal-drawn carriages travelled across metallic skywalks through the pink clouds.
Keith didn’t care all that much about the architecture—buildings were buildings—but he did quietly appreciate the open awe on Shiro’s face as he gazed out the window of the carriage, taking in the view. It filled Keith with warmth and nostalgia. Even after everything he’d been through, Shiro was still an explorer at heart.
After another half varga of Shiro observing their surroundings and Keith observing Shiro and their chaperone observing them both, the giraffe-deer-unicorns pulling the carriage ground to a halt.
Shiro hopped out of the carriage first and offered Keith his hand in a ridiculous gentlemanly gesture. Keith rolled his eyes, but he took it. Shiro didn’t let go, threading their hands together once more as the chaperone led them inside the massive palace and took them to their quarters.
The room was small, intimate. Notably, there was only one bed in the middle of the room, and it wasn’t particularly large. There was no couch. Keith shoved it to the back of his mind. They’d cross that bridge when they got to it.
“I will escort you to the welcome feast in a varga,” the chaperone said. “Until then, please make yourselves at home.”
“Thank you,” Shiro said, his voice tinged with what Keith knew to be relief. It had barely been two vargas since they’d landed. Was he that sick of pretending to be in a relationship with Keith already? Maybe… maybe he was just tired. But once the chaperone had left, he couldn’t let go of Keith’s hand fast enough.
It was a reminder that this was all just an act. Keith couldn’t let himself forget.
Keith flopped down on the mattress. Shiro sat down at the edge of the bed, keeping his distance. If he didn’t want to touch Keith any more than he had to, that was fine. Completely, one hundred percent fine.
Shiro caught his eye. “Sorry if I made you uncomfortable back there.”
Keith shook his head. “It’s not like you’ve never made fun of me before.”
“No, I meant for… you know.”
“It saved us,” Keith said. “It’s fine. I—I wasn’t uncomfortable.”
Shiro gave him a wry smile. “You don’t have to lie to me. You were so tense I thought you were going to snap in two. We’re alone, now. You don’t have to pretend. If—if you want us to find another way to form this alliance, I’m sure we can figure something out.”
“No. I…” I want this. More than anything. Keith was just a slip of the tongue away from admitting it, but he couldn’t; he couldn’t mess up their friendship with his stupid feelings.
If Shiro ever found out, he would pull away, put distance between them, the way he had with everyone who’d ever shown interest in him. He didn’t want to give them the wrong impression; it wasn’t fair to them when he didn’t return their affection.
If Shiro found out, it would change everything, and Keith couldn’t handle losing what they had. Their friendship was the only constant in Keith’s ever-changing universe; Shiro was the star that kept him from falling out of orbit. He couldn’t lose that, couldn’t lose him again in any capacity. Shiro could never know.
“We can’t back out now,” Keith said. “But it’s fine. Really. There are worse things than a week of having to pretend I’m in love with my best friend.” Like years and years of having to pretend he wasn’t in love with his best friend.
“Okay. Well, if you change your mind at any point, I want you to let me know. You’re more important to me than this alliance.”
Keith shook his head. “More important than restoring the pods? I shouldn’t be.”
Shiro shrugged. “Should or shouldn’t, there’s nothing you could do that would change my mind.”
Keith couldn’t help but smile. “Sap.” Back at the Garrison, Shiro used to wear his heart on his sleeve, open and honest and unbearably genuine. That had changed, and Keith didn’t love him any less for it. But once in a while, Garrison-Shiro would resurface, and Keith could lose himself in memories of happier times.
When Shiro slipped to the bathroom, Keith pulled out his tablet to check in with the Castle. He regretted it as soon as Lance answered.
“Hey there, lovebird,” Lance greeted. He turned around, calling to the others, “Hey guys, it’s Keith. Aw, look at that little smile. He’s got it sooo bad.”
Keith glowered at him.
Hunk popped up beside Lance. “Have you guys confessed your true feelings for each other yet?”
“What? No!”
“Told you,” Pidge said, poking her head out. “Keith’s just gonna keep quietly pining over Shiro until it kills him.”
“I’m not pining over anyone,” Keith growled.
Lance let out an obnoxious, too-loud laugh. “Yeah, and Hunk doesn’t like food, and Pidge doesn’t like computers.”
“Go away,” Keith hissed. “I don’t want to talk to you guys. Where’s Allura?”
The Princess pushed her way onto the screen. “Hello, Keith,” she said. She clasped her hands together with a wide grin. “Have you and Shiro kissed yet?”
Keith let out an exasperated groan, dragging a hand through his hair. “Our mission is going fine, thanks for asking. We made it to the palace. We have a chaperone—“
“Oooh.”
“Shut up, Hunk. The intel checks out. We’re under observation most of the time. We’ll get to meet with the Queens at the end of the spicolian movement as long as we pass some trials and the guy watching us buys the act.”
“And that is going well? Your chaperone does not suspect anything so far?” Allura asked.
“We’ve… got it under control.”
“I’m sure they found a way to convince him,” Lance said with an exaggerated wink, to which Allura giggled.
Keith scowled. He hated all of them. “That’s it. Nothing else to report.”
“Give Shiro a kiss for m—“
Keith cut the line, and not a moment too soon. Barely a tick later, Shiro emerged from the bathroom.
“I heard voices. Were you talking to the Castle?”
“Uh. Yeah. Did you hear any of that?” Keith asked.
Shiro shook his head, and Keith silently sighed with relief. “Did I miss anything?”
“No. I just gave them a really quick update. Told them we made it to the palace.”
“Well, thanks for doing that.” Shiro settled back down beside Keith on the bed. “So what do you wanna do until Visran comes back?”
“Who?”
Shiro raised an eyebrow. “Our chaperone?”
“Right. Whatever. Doesn’t matter. Anything, as long as it’s not those stupid cat videos you got from Pidge.”
Shiro grinned. “I’d forgotten about those.”
“Worst varga of my life.”
Shiro had been inordinately excited when Pidge had found them, and just like he used to make Keith watch all sorts of not-actually-funny videos he’d find when they were back at the Garrison, he’d gone straight to Keith and made him watch clip after clip of mildly amusing cat antics.
Keith knew Shiro didn’t honestly find them that entertaining; it had been an exercise in nostalgia more than anything. So he had indulged him. Outwardly, he’d been grudging about it, but he’d do it again in a heartbeat.
“Round two will be better. Promise,” Shiro said with a smile, reaching for his tablet.
“Can’t be worse,” Keith grumbled, hiding the way his own lips turned up. He scooted over until their shoulders touched.
Shiro didn’t seem to mind.
Strike two.
“No.”
“We have to,” Shiro said, though he was barely holding back a grimace. “It’s—it’s just food. My hands are clean. I’ll use my left. Or right, if the metal would be less weird?”
“I don’t care which hand it is. I’m perfectly capable of feeding myself.”
“I don’t think anyone is questioning that,” Shiro said, faintly. He gestured to all the other tables around them, where every Graxari pair was feeding each other with their bare hands, fingers in each other’s mouths. Keith pulled a face. “This is about fitting in. It’ll—it’ll be fine.”
Gingerly, Keith picked up one of the items on the plate: a slimy, orange, wakame-like substance. “You first.”
“What? No, it’s your turn,” Shiro insisted.
Keith frowned. “How is it my turn?”
“You’ve already fed me. Remember?”
Of course Keith remembered. He couldn’t scrub the image from his mind, of Shiro in the days—weeks—after finding him in that Galra fighter, laid up in bed, too weak to even lift a cup or spoon to his lips.
“I used utensils,” Keith said.
“And I appreciate that,” Shiro said. “It’s still your turn.”
“No way. You’re the leader. Lead by example. Open up,” Keith said, shoving a fist full of orange jelly strands in front of Shiro’s face.
Shiro flinched away. “No.”
“Don’t be a baby. Open wide. Here comes the airplane.”
Breath hitching, Shiro’s eyes went wide and he ducked away. It was far too strong a reaction.
“Is there a problem?” The two of them whirled around to find their chaperone at their table. “Is the food not to your liking?”
“N-no. No problem,” Shiro stammered. He couldn’t seem to find his usual composure. What was with him?
“We were just reminiscing about the first time I fed Shiro,” Keith offered. “It was, uh, very intimate. So I was just telling him it’s his turn to feed me. Right?”
“I… Right. Yeah.”
Keith gestured with his eyes to pick up the food. With a trembling hand, Shiro grabbed a clump of something lumpy and purple, bringing it to Keith’s lips. Keith did his best not to wince as Shiro shoved the food inside his mouth, did his best not to notice the feeling of Shiro’s fingers as they touched his lips and tongue.
Keith chewed and swallowed. It was too sweet and had a strange aftertaste. “It’s great,” he told the chaperone, with his best attempt at a polite smile. He wished he were a better liar.
Vis-whatever stared at him with his strange, night sky eyes. They were impossible to read. “Good to hear it, Paladin,” he said. His voice betrayed no emotion, either, but it sounded like a warning. “Be sure to save room for dessert.”
“Great. Dessert. Can’t wait.”
Keith wiped the orange slime from his fingers on the napkin provided, and then placed his hand over Shiro’s. As soon as the chaperone was out of earshot, he asked in a low whisper, “Hey, are you okay?”
“Of course. I’m fine,” Shiro said, tersely.
Keith gave him a flat stare.
“It’s nothing. It’s stupid. It’s—it’s just food.”
“It’s just food, but…?” Keith coaxed.
“But I just… I don’t like not having control over it,” Shiro whispered, not quite meeting his eyes. He gave a self-deprecating smile. “Like I said, it’s stupid.”
Keith shook his head. “It’s not.” He didn’t need to ask about the circumstances leading to his aversion. “We don’t have to do this. I’m sure nobody would be horribly offended if you just fed yourself.”
“We have to blend in. We need this alliance,” Shiro insisted.
“That’s not what you said back in the room.”
“This is different.”
“Yeah,” Keith said, pointedly. “It is.”
Shiro took a metered breath. “It’s fine, Keith. I’ll be fine. Really. I—I know I can trust you.”
“Alright,” Keith conceded. “But if we have to stop, that’s fine. Let me know, okay? We’ll take it slow.”
“Yeah,” Shiro said with a steady exhale. “We’ll take it slow.”
They made it through dinner. They made it through dessert. Keith wasn’t going to make it through this dance.
Keith’s nerves were going haywire. Every muscle was tense, too tense.
“You can relax,” Shiro murmured, his head resting on Keith’s shoulder. As if he could when their bodies were pressed so tightly together. “We’re blending in just fine.”
“Feels like an elementary school dance,” Keith muttered. Like all the other couples around them, they barely moved, just slowly swaying back and forth. They were synchronized with each other but completely off rhythm; neither was paying attention to the beat of the strange music over the speakers.
A soft laugh escaped Shiro. “You actually went to those?”
“Once. Foster parents forced me to go.”
“I bet you had fun.” Keith couldn’t see Shiro’s face, but he knew which smile he was wearing—the playful, teasing one Keith adored but pretended to hate.
“Worst two hours of my life.”
“I thought the cat videos had that honour,” Shiro said.
“The cat videos win for vargas. I wasn’t measuring in vargas back then.”
Shiro huffed out a laugh. “If you’re really having that bad a time, we can tell the Graxari we want to retire early.”
“No,” Keith said, a little too quickly. “I’m—I’m not having a bad time.”
He regretted his tone as soon as the words slipped out. It was too genuine. He had to more careful. It was only a matter of time before he slipped, just a matter of time before he gave himself away.
Shiro nuzzled closer. “I’m glad you’re here with me.”
“…Yeah.”
This could only end badly. It was going to leave Keith in pieces. This was a terrible, terrible idea.

Hello, I'm hoping this request is within your rules. Firstly, hello new fan here. I only started watching Voltron within the last month (started it with my bf and we're just one episode away from finishing s4). It's such an amazing show and we loved finding these male characters we can relate to (he's like Keith and I'm like Hunk). Secondly, I got a letter back from the art school I'm applying to (I'm an artist) and they would like to interview me and see my portfolio, which is like yayy! [1/2]
Part 2: But also like aahhh!! Can I request how the paladins would help support a male or gender neutral s/o who is freaking out over getting ready for such a situation or just interactions with an artistic s/o please? Thank you
A/N: First of all, CONGRATS! I HOPE THAT ART SCHOOL GOES WELL FOR YOU! I want an update on that, btw! And second, yes, I will write it! Sounds super cool! And goodness gracious these are long… I hope you like it!
Lance
 he’d be so proud
like, brag about it to the cashier at the grocery store proud
just as a side note, one thing he likes to do is draw a really terrible scene and see how his s/o improves it
anyways, when his s/o gets the letter from the art school, he’d like, celebrate hard core
balloons
cake
brownies
whatever
confetti too?
he’d probably help prepare for an interview by asking his s/o different questions they’d probably be asked
and they go over the questions once a day for a week leading up to the interview
at the actual interview, his s/o looks like a pro at answering the questions
and then he can barely breathe after his s/o gets back from the interview, as they’re both waiting for news
even if his s/o doesn’t get in, he’s really proud that they even got to the interview part
if they do get in, he’s like, so happy and he cries tears of joy
Keith
he’s also really proud
he calls his s/o’s parents to tell them about it
and he helps choose art from his s/o’s collection to show off
like Lance, he helps prepare his s/o for an interview
but he takes creative turns by twisting questions and just making them different every time
but he’s not super overkill like Lance, though
probably starts asking a couple of days before the interview, when anxiety gets really high
he drives his s/o to the interview and takes them to mcdonalds or something to get breakfast
he makes it a huge ordeal
and he waits outside, leaning against the building with his arms crossed and staring at the pavement
or he waits in the car
his music is really loud to drown out his worrying
and he’s tapping the steering wheel anxiously
but he’s strangely calm when his s/o comes out of the interview
it’s like he feels like he needs to be calm for his s/o
showing his anxiety will only make his s/o’s worse
if they don’t get in, he’s supportive
“You can always apply again, right?”
if they do, he’s really happy
orders food from your favorite restaurant
eats in front of the tv while watching your favorite movie or tv show
Hunk
this boy literally jumps out of his seat when his s/o tells him that they got an interview for art school
he doesn’t really know what to do with that information, but he’s happy because his s/o is
makes s/o their favorite food to celebrate
he tries not to be too involved
he isn’t really sure if his s/o wants his help or not
so he waits until his s/o asks for help
he does, however, make casual suggestions as to which art his s/o should use in their portfolio
takes his s/o to breakfast the morning of the interview
gets them like, five mugs of hot chocolate
lots of crepes and pancakes
it’s at breakfast that he starts asking if they’re ready
goes over some of the talking points with his s/o
“I’m really proud of you. Wait until my mom finds out you got into art school! She’ll be so proud!”
he is so confident in his s/o that he’s not really worried about the possibility of his s/o not getting in
if they don’t, he’s really chill about it
“There are other schools, right?”
“You can always apply again, too!”
ice cream is sure to come that night
if they do get in
he calls his mom the second he finds out
and his mom is screaming on the phone
they go over to his parent’s house for dinner
there are balloons and confetti
Pidge
I’m guessing that there was some sort of similar process to get into the garrison
so she kinda understands
she’s really excited that her s/o got this opportunity
she tries to be as low maintenance as possible while her s/o prepares for their interview
asks if they need anything
won’t ask to do stuff as much
she waits for her s/o to approach her
she makes cookies for her s/o all the time up until the interview
it doesn’t even matter if they’re good or not
her s/o is just happy that she’s trying to cheer them up
tries to psych her s/o up as much as possible
it’s an exciting thing, not something they should be worried about!
like Hunk, she makes casual suggestions for the portfolio
“Oh, that one of the space ship is really nice…”
“Remember when you drew Green? I really like that one. It’s pretty”
“That tree with the monkeys is beautiful. It’s one of my favorites”
she thinks she’s being smooth
but she’s not
at all
at her s/o’s request, she’ll run through some interview questions with them
she won’t go with her s/o to the interview
but she waits eagerly by her phone for news
if they don’t get in, she’s really supportive
doesn’t bring it up very much
is extra supportive of their art
if they do get in, she gets Matt to help her plan a party of some sort
Shiro
imagine the best hug you’ve ever been given in your entire life
think of how warm it is
it envelops you completely
this is the hug that Shiro gives his s/o this glorious hug
definitely lifts them off the ground
he can’t stop smiling for days
he’d pick up when his s/o is nervous
he helps them plan how to prepare
“Over the next few days, just look at your art and decide which ones you like the best…”
“A few days before the interview, start going over the questions they sent you…”
he texts them little reminders
but they aren’t pushy or anything
he tries to make them as nice as humanly possible
drives his s/o to the interview
in fact, he waits in the waiting room
his leg bounces a lot
the receptionist is a little annoyed
if his s/o doesn’t get in, he’s kinda sad
like, his s/o is amazing???
why not???
he’s really loving for the next week or two
if his s/o gets in, he immediately plans to take his s/o out to a really nice restaurant to celebrate
much proud
Allura
she hasn’t seen much of her s/o’s art
but she knows it’s insanely good
so she’s really really proud that they got the letter
tries to get her s/o excited
she knows she would be excited
doesn’t really know how she can help her s/o prepare, but she does her best
she helps pick out art to use in the portfolio
and asks her s/o some of the interview questions
if her s/o doesn’t get in, she’s not too upset about it
there’s always next year, right?
she does order their favorite food and watch their favorite movie with them, though
and she’s really affectionate for a little while
if her s/o does get it, she’s not surprised
she’s all, “Of course you did! Have you seen your art?”
“Yeah, Allura. I’m kind of the one who made it.”
Coran
there were a lot of artists surrounding him and Alfor before the Altea was destroyed
he’s well acquainted with beautiful artwork
but his s/o’s art is by far better than any he’s seen from Alteans
he’s pretty confident in his s/o’s abilities
tries to keep out of the way during this stressful time
the less trouble he causes, the better
he doesn’t take his s/o to the interview
but he’s really nervous waiting for them to contact him
when he gets the news that his s/o didn’t get in, he’s honestly really upset
like, his s/o’s art is the most beautiful thing ever
so why???
if his s/o does get in, he hugs his s/o so tight they they thing their lungs might explode and eyeballs pop out of their head
he’s just super proud
Matt
the boy acts like his s/o got in before they even interviewed
they’ll be at the grocery store and he’s all
“Yeah, [Name] here got into art school. They’re a really talented artist”
“Matt, I haven’t even interviewed yet.” They turn to the cashier. “I haven’t gotten accepted yet. He’s just excited”
the cashier thinks it’s the cutest thing they’ve ever seen, but just politely smiles
he’s really jittery while his s/o prepares for the interview
a tiny bit annoying
but he soon learns to back off
helps his s/o pick out art
goes over the interview questions a bunch of times
he goes with them to the interview
on the way there, they go stop for lunch
lunch is completely silent, though
Matt isn’t really sure how to distract his s/o from their anxiety
he holds their hand
rubs his thumb over the back of their hand
if his s/o doesn’t get in, he’s quite upset
personally, he thought his s/o was super good
like, good enough to skip art school altogether
but things don’t always go the way they hope
if his s/o does get in, he’s not surprised
“Heck yeah you did, you’re too amazing not to!”
he celebrates hardcore
confetti to the max

Voltron Ask Game
so i was tagged by @cattearambles literally a month ago, ha ha ha.... *sweats* anyway thank you! i love doing these even though im horrible at doing them in a timely manner
okay honestly, thank you so much for tagging me bc FINALLY a chance to ramble about voltron in a somewhat organized manner ajkldhflaksjdh
How did you discover the show?
summer of last year (so, 2017). there was always klance popping up on my dash so i was at least vagueley aware of voltron, then i found out a friend of mine watched voltron and really liked it so i decided to give it a shot and ive been here ever since
Was it love at first sight or did it take you a while to get into the show?
love at first sight because i am a sucker for a huge cast of characters all being buddies and bantering and bickering
Do you have a favorite episode (s)?
adkfhakdf i do not remember episode names, but like i loved the mall episode was so fun! i also loved the episode were pidge finds matt, like holy fuck?? my emotions??? i loved all the angst and the emotions and then PIDGE FUCKING FINDS MATT AND IT’S THE CUTEST GODDAMN REUNION AND IM JUST FUCKING EMOTIOANDJFAHLDFKJ. i also liked the episode with keith and krolia at that weird part in space because it gave a lot of backstory on keith and krolia and also BONDING TIME AND AAAAAAAA. the monsters and mana episode was dorky as hell and therefore i loved it. then, that whole episode where keith fights kuron and he’s like “shiro youre my brother i love you” and IM JUST-- YOU CANT FUCKING ALKDJFLAKDJFLAKDFJ. also the first episode of s7 aljdfaljsdf august 10th im ready for u
Do you have a favorite Paladin?
KEITH
Do you have a favorite Lion?
not really? theyre all great
Do you have a favorite Alien Race? (Recurring and/or minor)
shit, i forget their name, but the cool aliens that interact with technology and then they adapted and started interacting with nature in a cool way and ahhhh theyre so badass and smart and akjdhflaksjdfh
Favorite side/ other character (s)- Rebels, Generals, Blade of Marmora, Garrison etc
ROMELLE SHE’S A FUCKING BABE!!! Also Rover (rest in peace) and Matt Holt (if you count him as a side character) because he’s also amazing and hilarious and such a good brother im akdjhfalkjdshf. Coran too because i saw a post about him being the real space dad and i 100% agree and he’s so funny and wonderful.
How/ Why did you join the fandom?
all the klance popping up on my dash made me curious enough to watch voltron and then i stayed because i loved the characters a lot a lot a lot
Favorite Headcanons
1. BROGANES!!! I love love love LOVE keith and shiro’s relationship in the show and I get so emotional every time i think about their history and shiro taking a chance on this sad, troubled kid and shiro helping keith and i aljdhfljhsad. i read so much fanfiction with keith and shiro being actual brothers and i see so much stuff about shiro being like “i adopted this kid” and im just a h h h h h h
2. shiro and the holts being tight like, i love reading headcanons about shiro always going to the holts’ place and just like, chilling and being part of the family
3. korean keith, idk i just love this a lot
What do you think is the best part of the show?
the charactes 100% they’re so funny and vibrant and full of personality. as a generally fast paced children’s cartoon, we don’t really have as much time to explore every facet of their personalities, but i love watching them grow and change and being their best selves (eg, keith maturing and leading voltron and bonding with his mom, hunk being super smart and being smart with pidge and matt, lance loving and helping his friends, allura being badass and kind and compassionate, coran being the best space uncle)
Any hopes and wishes for future episodes/ seasons?
HUNK AND SHIRO BACKSTORIES AKDJFHALKDJFHALKSDJFH. also, i kind of miss the carefree-ness and overall lighter vibe of the earlier episodes, so just more of the paladins being happy and not having to stress and lowkey that wont happen other than the token 1 fun episode but yknow. im so excited for the paladins to be back on earth and i just want them all meeting their families again and being at the garrison and idk i just aljdhfalkjdf
Do you think you’ll stick it out until the end of the show?
bold of you to assume i wouldnt
Tag your friends or someone you want to get to know better:

So I finally watched Voltron (Season 1) last night and...
- First of all, Lance is my son and I would die for him.
- Technically, they’re all my children, but Lance takes precedence (he may have to share the “my son” tag with Kurt)
- Pidge is what would happen if me and @firebender-in-the-tardis had a baby.
- Hunk is a being of pure light who has never done anything wrong ever.
- Also, he and Shay are the cutest couple, we better be getting a Season 7 wedding episode.
- I love Keith to death but he needs a chill-pill and also an adult.
- Like, I can see why you guys were worried about him in Season 3.
- Listen, I know Klance shippers can be kinda shitty, but I can also 100% see why this is the flagship for Voltron.
- Seriously, these two dorks embody every character/relationship trope I’m weak for, save me.
- “Fall of the Castle of Lions” fucked me up.  I spent the entire episode yelling “Everything’s going wrong!” at my computer screen.
- Sendak looks like an evil version of Stitch you can fight me on this.
- I would let Shiro adopt me.
- I would let Allura adopt me.
- I would let Shiro and Allura have joint custody of me.
- But I also wouldn’t say no to a three-way with them, you see my conundrum?
- I was watching with a friend and I made both myself and her sad by speculating that Lance is Coran’s favorite because Coran had a son back on Altea and Lance reminds him of him, oh no I’m sad again.
Anyway, can’t wait to watch the rest of it!  Expect me to scream about this show some more in the near future.

Voltron Season 4 Thoughts
OH BOY HERE WE GO! HERE IS WHAT I’M EXPECTING *AHEM* MATT MATT MATT PLEASE GIVE ME MATT OK LET’S GO!!!
Episode 1: Code of Honor - I’m already super interested in this person that is apparently “new” to the Blade.... I think it’s Keith.... - Oh well what do you know...it is! - It’s been months?!?!?!! - Man....Keith is having a hard time....Shiro is being...Not Shiro....and the others are...holding a bit of a grudge? - Well fuck...that sucks... - I love Coran - Ok Keith...I understand where you are coming from...but Allura just told you...and now you’re fucking everything up... - I feel sorry for Not Shiro....and now that he has the Black Lion again....I get the feeling Keith isn’t gonna be around as much... - That one rebel has a mask so I’m automatically gonna think it’s Matt - Welp...I knew it....Keith is leaving.... - Btw Shiro’s eyes are..... <_< idk.....
Episode 2: Reunion - JUDGING BY THAT TITLE I’M GONNA ASSUME MATT IS IN THIS EPISODE - It opens on Pidge in a flashback....FRIG YEAH - SOMEONE SAVE ME - She hated being called Pidge.... - This is the most I’ve ever heard him talk ;-; - I can’t tell if he looked worried or not... - Ok the background for this place looks frigging cool - (Also im guessing that rebel wasnt matt in the last episode but dont blame me because I’ve been waiting for him to show up for 4 seasons) - PIDGE YOU ARE A BADASS!!! - GOD SOMEONE SPARE ME FROM THESE FLASHBACKS - IT’S A FUCKING BURIAL GROUND?!?!?!?! - if i didn’t see any spoilers from like 2 months ago....I would be crying buckets right now man.....I’m already emotional anyways from this episode - HOW THE FUCK IS IT EVEN RAINING ON THIS PLANET??? - let me guess this is a code? - Oh thank god - FUCKING FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - I love these siblings - He gave her the glasses... - This was the cutest episode ever and I can’t believe none of the other paladins were in it...
Episode 3: Black Site - Haggar is looking horrified at herself... - Hey its Slav! - I’m gonna die. That reaction. I’m gonna die XD - OMFG LANCE’S REACTION!!! IM GONNA DIE!! XD - Lance and Matt are now rivals XD - Did I say I love Matt? Because I do. He’s great! - Huh...Zarkon is back.... - Did I say how much I love the Holt Siblings? Because I do. They’re great! - Matt is trying to ask the real questions. - .....That scene where it zooms in on Matt’s face because he’s...idk...happy to see his sister....I kinda get the feeling we aren’t gonna find their dad.....Something bad probably happened to him... - Coran and Allura are hilarious...I feel kinda bad for them... - Lotor is good..he knows what to say to make it seem like he’s committed - HEY!!!! They got the game working! - Poor Lance though...it’s been 3 episodes and I haven’t seen much of him... - I love Allura and Coran XD  - I’m crying at this point XD - Annnndddd now they have to go help Lotor...I wonder if this is gonna be the start of a redemption arc.... - WHAT THE FUCK DUDE - This is why i think he doesnt need a redemption arc... - I get the feeling these chicks are not happy with Lotor...if anything...they will probably get a redemption arc... - that was a heavy ending...
Episode 4: The Voltron Show! - pffftt - PPPPFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTT - omg no - omfg shut up dude. they are there to help now - coran’s room.... - “It rhymes so it’s got to be true” - OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MMMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY GGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD - *Crying* - omg thats an extreme jump from a mall stage to an actual stage with thousands of people watching - *SCREAMING* This is great!!! XD - oh shit no they are ice skating - oh i dont like the single trait thing they have for each character.... at least the show addresses it. im glad they arent actually like this - oh man how many of these are they doing? - Lance is the only one that likes this but i get the feeling he wont in a minute... - OMFG “Except you shiro, i’ll never get rid of you, you’re our most popular character” WOW XD - this was a weird episode
Episode 5: Begin the Blitz - oooooohhhhh these girls - hey its those two! ...nyma and rolo? i think? glad to see him and Hunk get along now - Hunk and Pidge are so badass - I miss Keith... - OH SHIT - Shay looks awesome - well that was ominous
Episode 6: A New Defender - Bet Lotor feels betrayed.....not only was it his family and the Galra....but also his generals....but you know......you betrayed them all first Lotor so I have no sympathy - Yelling louder will always make sure you win....somehow..... - Did it have to do with that quintessence stuff on the ship? - Keith is showing signs of being a leader again.... Unlike Shiro...who kept giving bad advice...not sure if it was bad advice to be bad or bad advice because he too has no idea what the fuck is going on.....  - ...i....i think lotor is gonna warn voltron and the others...or help them....to get back at the galra - i can’t believe i was right.... - also....keith was willing to actually kill himself to save everyone....damn - aaannnddd thats it
Well....this was a pretty good season I was expecting more character development for all the paladins but ehh, what we got was good I was also expecting something from Earth because I REALLY WANNA KNOW WHATS GOING ON Im so so so so so happy that Matt appeared in this season, finally, and he was found in the earlier episodes. Keith was gone and tbh it was weird. Lotor....idk what the fuck you think you have a right to do now but...whatever. Everyone betrayed you because you betrayed them first. That being said I can’t wait to see what his character development will be. The only episode I didn’t think was particularly amazing was the acting one where Coran was being weird. I understand why that episode was needed but it felt a bit out of place.  Overall, good season. I’m hyped for the next one now that we have more things established! XD I think next season will go more in-depth on....Not Shiro and Shiro <_< Because we didn’t get that this season....

Voltron as a High School/Theatre Club AU
Because I was bored and I’m in the theatre club and my God does shit go down, and also I did not waste an hour of my life writing this up to hide this away
●   High School AU!!
●   Matt, Shiro, and Allura are seniors.
●   Lance, Keith, and Hunk are juniors.
●   Pidge is the sarcastic freshman that gets into their squad.
●   All of them are somehow involved in theatre.
●   Pidge, Matt, Shiro, and Keith are tech crew kids
●   Allura, Lance, and Hunk are all in the cast.
●   Coran pulls double duty as theatre director and tech crew adviser. Not to mention, he’s also the gym teacher. (He knows how to discipline teenagers but he also knows how to be wild as fuck. Principal Zarkon and several other teachers have been conspiring to get him removed from his position, but they know that if they do that, Allura Altea and Takashi Shirogane will be in the office first thing the next morning with a petition with over a thousand signatures to get Coran reinstated, because everyone loves Coran.)
●   Keith is Shiro’s cousin, who moved in when his parents died. He got roped into tech crew by Shiro and just kind of lurks. No one hears him coming. No one sees him. He’s strong. He ends up doing a lot of the set moving because he’s so silent.
●   (This is also how his pining ass never gets caught staring at Lance from the wings.)
●   (This kid is in too deep.)
●   Hunk used to do crew but switched over to the cast because he found that he enjoyed being on the stage (it also took a little convincing from Lance). This kid can SING. He gets a lot of the leads or main supporting characters.
●   He can also cook REALLY WELL so on days they have long rehearsals, and EVERY DAY during hell week/tech week/whatever they wanna call it, he brings in this huge buffet.
●   “Hunk how the fuck did you find the time to make all of this?” “I sacrificed sleep and three semester grades, now shut up and eat, Lance.”
●   Matt’s the crew president (also the AV club president). Everyone likes him. Everyone. It is impossible not to like him. Even when he’s threatening to lock you in the wood closet because “make one more remark about the lighting, Rolo, I fucking dare you.”
●   Shiro’s his best friend and basically his right-hand man.
●   Shiro is basically the tech crew dad.
●   Matt put him in charge of the first aid kit one time and Shiro takes his role very, very seriously.
●   Shiro’s also the one that the administration LOVES and that’s how one night the crew was allowed to stay in the school past 1 AM to finish putting together the set the night before the show.
●   (Keith later lets it slip to Pidge, in the dark as they’re moving wood pieces out to the dumpsters, that Shiro may have blackmail on the principal.)
●   Pidge gets to be Matt’s left-hand man and gets a slightly elevated status above some of the upperclassmen because of sibling privilege.
●   (No one is mad at her, everyone loves her.) (She’s sarcastic as hell and roasts every kid in her grade.)
●   ( “So, Pidge, I heard some freshmen got into a fight today.” “LISTEN, NYMA, YOU HAVE NO IDEA. Okay so it all started at lunch when this dick with his muscle tee walks up to a lunch lady…”)
●   (Seriously. Pidge has dirt on everyone. Not even just the freshmen. No one knows how or why.)
●   Allura is in the cast.
●   Allura is a quadruple threat: she can sing, dance, and act, and she HAS THE LOOKS.
●   Lance had a crush on her from freshman to junior year, because they’ve been in the theatre club together, but now she’s more of an older sister to him.
●   Allura gets the lead almost every show and it pisses some of the other kids off, but they don’t say anything because GOD ALLURA IS ALSO TOO NICE.
●   She’s also very determined.
●   She’s student council president, because of course she is.
●   She constantly wants to fight the school board because of underfunding.
●   She also wants to fight Zarkon, their principal.
●   Allura loves her cast and crew like they’re her family.
●   (She’s theatre club president.)
●   (She also has the hots for Shiro and he has them for her and there is mutual pining going on.)
●   LANCE tries to play off the fact that he is a human disaster.
●   He’s in like twenty thousand clubs and has a niece and nephew to look after but dedicates the most time to theatre.
●   Sophomore year he started getting really good roles, and he had to drop out of like three clubs because he was constantly in rehearsal.
●   (He was in the band. The band is still kinda bitter that he dropped.)
●   (His band friends still come and watch every show.)
●   He acts like he can’t sing, but years of learning lullabies from his siblings and then having car ride jam sessions and family reunion jam sessions have trained him. He sings like a damn ANGEL.
●   (One time Keith catches him in the empty band room during rehearsal, as he’s running back and forth moving set pieces.)
●   (Narrator voice: It was at that moment Keith Kogane came to realize two things. One: he was definitely gay. Two: he was head-over-heels for Lance McClain.)
●   PRESENT TIME: Lance and Allura have both landed leads in the school musical, and there is a kissing scene.
●   There are several problems.
●   1. Allura can’t kiss for shit and has been too busy being a student activist/honorary older sister and studying to get into college to find a relationship or even practice kissing.
●   2. Lance is also a bad kisser. Not because of lack of experience. He’s just bad at kissing.
●   3. They no longer have any interest in kissing each other. (Well, Allura was never into Lance to begin with.)
●   Pidge overhears them talking about this dilemma one day, and enlists Hunk and Matt to help her with a plan that will not only get them to be good kissers, but will also get everyone into the relationships they all desire.
●   (AKA: Pidge, Hunk, and Matt conspire to set up Allura and Shiro, and Keith and Lance.)
●   Allura and Shiro go on a date one day after rehearsal. And then another. And then two weeks and six dates later they’re official.
●   (Shiro and Allura periodically update Keith or Lance on the situation.)
●   (They are also trying to set up Keith and Lance.)
●   (They lowkey have been for a while. Because Keith won’t stop ranting to Shiro about his crush on Lance when they drive home from a long day (( “Shiro, it should be illegal for him to look that good in that stupid outfit.”)) and Lance thinks he’s being subtle and trying to downplay the fact that he has a big ol’ crush (( “I think I caught Keith staring at me today. Should my stomach feel like this, Allura?”)).)
●   (“Keith!” “Yes, Shiro? Are you finally ready to tell me all about your date with Allura, the princess you’ve been looking for, the stars in your sky, the music to your ears?” “Yes, now shut up you emo nerd. But before I tell you that, Allura told me Lance sometimes talks about you.” “…Does he just roast me or something? Don’t get my hopes up here, Shiro.” “No, no. He said you look good with your hair back. I know you’ve been worried about that.” “…H-He did?!” “Yeah! He also says he thinks you’re cute in general. A broody kind of cute.” [Keith.exe has stopped working])
●   (“Hey, Allura! How’d the date with Shiro go?” “Oh, very well! Shiro’s very sweet. But before I tell you all about my date, he’s given an update on Keith.” “O-Oh, him? Ah, why-why would I wanna know about him? He’s just an emo little nerd…w-with cute eyes…” “He says you’re a great singer. And you look amazing in your costume.” “…Allura, I think I’m having heart palpitations. I need to go to the hospital.”)
●   (Allura and Shiro hit it off so quick so why are those two SO OBLIVIOUS?)
●   Also important things to consider:
●   There’s a running bet between everyone in the cast and crew (this bet, of course, was started by Pidge, who keeps finding new ways to make these kids like her even more) on who’s going to get caught making out in the wood closet first.
●   Matt raised his sister like this, and it comes as a surprise to everyone but Pidge when he raises the stakes: “I wanna make bets on who’s gonna get caught fucking in there. Anyone who bets right gets double the cash.”
●   Everyone is very, very careful about being secretive with this bet.
●   (Being Shiro’s best friend, Matt has no faith in him and places his bets on Lance and Keith.)
●   (In the background of the Lance/Keith and Allura/Shiro debacle, Hunk distances himself because he draws the line at having to imagine his best friend’s dick up another guy’s ass. He starts dating a girl in one of the supporting roles of the show, because he’s seen her in a few of his classes and she’s pretty quiet. Her name is Shay.)
●   (Shay is the sweetest thing on the planet and also wants nothing to do with this whole thing.)
●   (At one point, Hunk finds out that Rolo is Shay’s ex-boyfriend and Hunk immediately wants to fight, because how does someone break up with someone this sweet.)
●   (They’re the cutest thing about this whole show.)
●   (Oh yeah, in the background of all the cast and crew shenanigans, Principal Zarkon is trying to further defund the theatre program. For the third time since Allura’s freshman year. She is going to fight this dick one way or another.)
Anyway, HIGH SCHOOL/THEATRE AU SHENANIGANS.

Hunk appreciation prompt! Hunk drags home an alien animal that he can't keep as a pet. No matter how cute it is!
[still taking prompts]
This is an adorable prompt and I’m dog-earing this one to write something longer and more detailed later.
640 words. G rated
“Absolutely not.”
Hunk froze mid step as he walked past Allura. He patted the small lump under his green vest. So close! “‘Absolutely not’ what?” He laughed nervously, turning around to face Allura.
“Whatever you’ve brought into the castle.” She pointed to his vest, “Absolutely not.”
“Um.” He scratched the back of his neck, looking to Lance and Pidge for support. They shrugged, keeping their distance. “How about a vote? Haha?”
“No.” Allura motioned for him to remove it from under his vest.
“How did you even know? I thought you were relaxing too!” Hunk pulled out a small round ball of brown fluff. “How can you say no to this anyway?”
“I don’t-”
Lance cut Allura off, bounding up to Hunk and bending over to coo at the cute animal. “I vote we keep it. Sooo cute! Pidge- you’re downgraded to second cutest one on the ship!”
“Thank Voltron. I vote we keep it too.” She waved as se continued on her way into the castle. “I’m not cleaning up after it.”
“Pllleeeease?” Hunk held the critter up to Allura.
“Absolutely. Not.” Allura sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. “We are on a mission. We don’t have time for pets or the diseases they bring.”
The doors opened again, this time it was Coran and Keith returning from gathering readings on the planet. “What do you have there lad?”
“Yea, what the heck is that?” Keith peered at the ball in Hunk’s hand from a distance.
“It’s super cute and cuddly and loves me and Allura is being a meanie and not letting me keep it.” Hunk rubbed his cheek against the soft fur.
“Ah, what’s the harm in a pet? It could do them some good.” Despite his words, Coran kept his distance. “But um. Yes. Perhaps a different pet would suit us better, hmm?”
“No. I’ll probably be the one feeding it.”
Allura nodded. “Hunk, put it back outside and let’s get ready for departure. We leave as soon as Shiro returns.”
“We’re tied for yes’ and no’s. Shiro breaks the tie with his vote. And-”
“No.”
Shiro’s exasperated voice startled him, causing him to jump and nearly knocking the critter out of his hand. He hadn’t even heard him come in.
“But Shiroooo!”
“Hunk. Didn’t you ever watch Star Trek? Or even scan it before bringing it aboard? Put the adorable thing outside.”
Lance sulked next to him. “I’ll come say bye with you.”
“I’m scanning both of you when you get back.” Allura crossed her arms and watched them leave.
[One month later]
Hunk poked at his dinner. “Some b.s.- not letting me go to the market. Peh! ‘Watch the castle Hunk. Stay put, Hunk. We don’t want you to find another dangerous animal, Hunk’.”
As if he’d have brought the cute alien animal on board if knew it was dangerous! He just wanted a pet. Did they not trust him at the market? Absurd.
Okay, maaaybe they had a point.
“Hey, still pouting?” Lance beamed at him from the door, decked out in some new outfit he purchased from the market.
“What are you wearing?” Hunk raised an eyebrow at his best friend.
Lance shrugged, moving aside to allow the others to enter. “I don’t know, but it looks awesome.”
“Hunk?” Allura entered last, standing in the middle of the rest of the team. “I wanted to apologize for what happened with the Tribble. We all wanted to cheer you up.”
Pidge nudged Shiro.
“Yea. Uh, you’ve been all mopey and so we all got together and…”
Allura motioned to the box Coran was holding. “Feed it and-” Hunk ran to open the box “- clean up after it.”
Hunk reached into the box and pulled out a small, kitten like alien pet. “I LOVE IT. I’M IN LOVE.” He pulled it to his chest. “Thank you! Thank you!”
Thank you for reading.
This feels too short and I need to write more of Hunk with his adorable alien pet(s).
