#sometimes i expect mr knight to express love the same way i do and i'm not sure why ?#i'm fairly obvious about it.... or at least obvious in my own eyes...... there is a lot of cooking and listening and beaming involved#as well as letter writing and Doing Things for him#(and wasting away in armchairs when he's not around.... ANYWAY)#so if i get too caught up in that i forget to look at the big picture. i forget that he's also speaking in his own way#in his own language with his own words so to speak#like!! the man knows i get cold easily. he knows i sleep with like six blankets#he'll try to warm up my hands when we're walking#and he went to buy the thickest duvet he could find so that i would be warm at night#and asked rather anxiously how it was after the first night i used it#and one evening when we were walking home i was shivering uncontrollably#because i was silly enough to wear a dress and stockings in APRIL (here in BC)#and he took off his coat and insisted i wear it over my coat. even though HE had nothing but a short sleeved shirt underneath it#if i think too much about these little things he does it makes me want to Cry#anyway the point of this is: wow people DO express love in different ways#and part of learning about someone in any kind of relationship is learning about how this unspoken language of theirs works#the planetarium chapter#mr knight is in many ways still a mystery to me but i am slowly learning more about him every day....... it feels like a huge honour

Tumblr media
Wow, what an absolute dumpster fire, right? *gestures broadly* ↓Below the cut↓ are some specific things as a reader/mutual/friend/etc you can do that will make things a little better.
Tumblr media
You come across someone posting/using someone else's work without express permission to do so:
INFORM THE ORIGINAL CREATOR/POSTER (OP) DIRECTLY ════════════════════════════════════════ ✧ Let OP know BEFORE you attempt to engage with the person on their behalf. ✧ OP will probably want to lay eyes on the situation, and, if the person stealing their work is tipped off, they might proactively block OP and/or remove posts before they can be verified as stolen. ✧ Do not harass the person who stole the work. It might be coming from a place of wanting to stick up for OP, but it ultimately doesn't help the situation.
Tumblr media
OP is experiencing a hate brigade, nasty anons, or trolling over their fic:
PRIORITIZE ACTIONS AND BEHAVIORS THAT KEEP THE FOCUS ON SUPPORT FOR OP ════════════════════════════════════════ ✧ Reblog the fic in question with a glowing recommendation or just leave a comment under it expressing your appreciation for it. Both actions will boost the work in question as well as show direct support for OP. ✧ Reach out privately through DMs if you have that sort of relationship, or send a supportive message through asks. Keep it simple and short as they are probably overwhelmed with the shitstorm at certain points. ✧ Speaking up with a supportive comment or post for OP isn't necessarily a bad thing, but arguing back and forth with the trolls/hate brigade/etc. - even if you are doing it with intention to support OP - only fuels the fire, and some of them are doing it for the attention anyway.
Tumblr media
OP seems down / isn't motivated to write / is expressing considerations of leaving fic writing altogether because of the current climate on this hellsite:
GIVE THEM THE SPACE OR TIME THEY NEED, BUT ALSO LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY ARE VALUED ════════════════════════════════════════ ✧ For the love of god please don't bombard them with asks about when xyz is going to be posted. This is a hobby for them, and they have jobs, families, and other life responsibilities that come first. Many would love nothing more than to sit and write all day, but that just isn't the reality for 99% of fic writers. ✧ Show their older works love, too. Many fic writers take the time to curate an organized masterlist of their works, and many have been writing for a while. There is a trove of wonderful content that can be read or re-read while you patiently wait for your fave to update. ✧ If you're waiting for an update on a specific fic, go back through the older chapters/updates and leave a comment saying you love it so much that you're coming back to visit older chapters while you wait to see what happens next in the story. I guarantee it will give them a boost of motivation for that story in particular. ✧ REBLOG AND COMMENT. Yes, do both of those things. I want you open up a fic you love and scroll down to the bottom where you can see likes, comments, and reblogs. I want you to look at the disparity between likes and comments/reblogs. Clicking a heart button is pretty much zero effort, and it comes across as such to many writers. It's not how Tumblr operates. This is a REBLOG site. That is how things make their way around. That is how posts get engagement. That is how other people can discover the fic writers you enjoy. Look, I even made a meme to show you what it feels like when after hours and hours of writing and editing you finally post a fic and then somebody only hearts it:
Tumblr media
Even a simple "I loved this so much and can't wait to read more!" does wonders. A quick reblog that mentions your favorite part in the story is like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow for writers.
Tumblr media
You come across people trashing a writer you like:
CONSIDER IF IT'S HELPFUL OR NOT TO ADDRESS IT ════════════════════════════════════════ ✧ People are allowed to have negative/differing opinions about things. If they are expressing their dislike, even in a nasty way, they are allowed to do so. ✧ If it is a genuinely harmful/disparaging conversation, look to see what sort of traction the conversation has. Sometimes it's better to just let something die down before it can even take off. Examples of genuinely harmful/disparaging conversation include but aren't limited to: accusing OP of something egregious without any evidence to support it, framing rumors/gossip they've seen about OP as factual, deeming them criminally or morally corrupt based off a personal opinion they have of OP/their works. ✧ Remember that while serious concerns (like the above point) might be good to share with OP, not every instance of negativity or hate needs to be brought to their attention. If it's just some random jerk on a different platform talking about how much OP's writing is amateur hour, you should probably just leave it be. OP is a person at the end of the day, and sometimes things can be more hurtful than helpful for them to see.
Tumblr media
OP isn't acting / responding in a way that you like:
REMIND YOURSELF THAT THEY ARE JUST ANOTHER PERSON IN THE FANDOM AND ARE NOT AN INFLUENCER ════════════════════════════════════════ ✧ OP isn't in this fandom to be put on a pedestal (of course there are always exceptions, but I'm not talking about those people) and treated like an influencer. ✧ OP creates works in the fandom because that is how they choose to engage with the fandom. It is one of many ways that people can come together in a community and celebrate an actor/movie/series/etc. ✧ OP is not a content farm. They are writing and sharing because they genuinely enjoy it. They are not being compensated. They are not being endorsed by anybody or any company. They are a normal person trying to take part in a fandom they enjoy. ✧ OP is not obligated to address or comment on a situation, an interaction, discourse, etc. They are not an influencer and aren't equivalent to the parasocial relationships that influencers (aka people who make a living off the internet) have with their followers. OP is not required to "use their platform" for something. It's not a platform. It is OP's personal account where they engage and post in fandom. That is why it exists. OP is not some mega entity that has to speak on something because you demand or expect it.
Tumblr media
OP blocked me:
THE CALL IS COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE ════════════════════════════════════════ ✧ Listen, I know it can be hurtful/confusing if you are blocked, especially if it is a writer you really like. I guarantee you that it was not done out of spite and for no reason. ✧ Take a look at the circles you run in, the posts you like, the sort of comments you leave, etc. Many writers are quick to block these days because the climate of this hellsite is very charged and exhausting. If OP sees your username cropping up again and again in fandom drama or you liked a discourse post with a shitty take or your chummy mutual is going off the rails with some bullshit, you might just get caught up in the Block Party. ✧ Don't go through another channel/account to ask why you've been blocked. No, you aren't entitled to a reason. OP is allowed to protect their mental health and peace, and they don't owe anyone an explanation of why and how they choose to curate their experience on this hellsite. ✧ If you believe you were blocked by mistake (which, again, is very unlikely), just take the L, homie. I know that's not what you want to hear, but that's just how it is.
Tumblr media
If you took the time to read this, share it, or just in general intend to apply it to your interactions, ✨thank you✨!
Here is a Pedro gif tax for your time and attention. 💜

Enneagram time with the Links!
I'm gonna type the Links from LoZ games I've played, might do Linked Universe too at some point. Anyway! I am too tired to explain the enneagram properly, but essentially it is a personality system that consists of nine different types. They're sorted by their core motivations and fears, and how they respond to the world in relation to that. Check out more info about that here!
Here's a list of the nine types
Okay, personality dweebs, let's do this!
Skyward Sword Link - Type 9, The Peacemaker, for sure. This boy just radiates type 9 energy. Laid back, doesn't seem particularly bothered by much of anything but when he is bothered, oh boy does it show. Is called "lazy" and a "daydreamer," yet he doesn't show traits of actual laziness. The teachers don't lament his lack of work. He's airheaded and unfocused, but he isn't lazy. Has strong feelings, you can see from how expressive he is. He's very empathetic, patient, and kind.
When type 9s are under stress they gravitate towards the more negative traits of type 6 - constantly anxious (always running too late), distrustful or reclusive (can't tell anyone else on Skyloft what's going on).
Link just... I can't put it into words, he just is type 9. As for his wing, I'd go with a 9w1. This Link isn't particularly assertive or looking for challenges, he's far more introverted, has a strong sense of duty and probably prefers the safety and comfort of routine.
Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask Link - Type 1, The Reformer. His sense of duty, his position as Hero of Hyrule, his need to help the world and protect others literally dominates this man's life - and death!! It's clearly important to him as he imparts this ideology to his descendant, the Hero of Twilight. He sticks around as a stalfos to continue his legacy, to train the next generation because his greatest regret was not ensuring the continued protection of Hyrule and ensuring others fulfilled the duty of the Hero as well. He is quiet, reserved, logical, and incredibly intelligent - of all the games I've played, OoT dungeons are the hardest, and this dude figured them out when he was nine.
Type 1s under stress devolve into the negativity of type 4s, they're emotional, they think no one can understand them, they're isolated and just different, ring a bell anyone? This dude is so displaced in time I can't blame him for feeling disconnected from everyone else and bitter about it. He definitely had a phase like this in his adolescence, I'm sure. And when type 1s are growing and at their best, they have the sense of spontaneity and adventure of type 7s, which seems on par with his I'm-going-break-this-horse-out-of-the-stable-by-jumping-over-the-fence-with-her-during-a-race moment.
His wing would probably be a type 2. He has a very kind heart, even if he doesn't express it well, bless him.
Twilight Princess Link - Type 2, The Helper. Compassionate, putting others first always, having a strong need to defend, assist, and nurture others. This Link is a gentle soul, through and through. Until you put him on a battlefield of course, because wow he is the most ferocious Link of the bunch. And that's a thing with 2s! When under stress they are aggressive and overbearing like 8s!
The entire village relies on this guy before he ever even starts his journey. He's already being a hero to his own people, and it has nothing to do with leading or fight, it's just that he goes out of his way to help others. He is so caring and tender and loving, he whittles away at Midna's sharp edges until she warms up to him too.
His wing would probably be a type 1 because he seems very focused on helping the individual more than the group. He's a local country boy who thinks small scale, has a sense of duty to others specifically instead of a sense of building achievements and success.
Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom Link - Type 6, The Loyalist. Committed, security oriented, responsible, anxious. Sounds a lot like our boy, right? His anxieties dominated his life prior to the Calamity until his amnesia wiped those away. Committed? Dude, have you ever seen him leave Zelda's side? This is him to a T. Notably, when 6 is in a place of healthy growth, they act more like a relaxed, laid back 9, which you 100% see in Breath of the Wild. The contrast between Link under pressure prior to the Calamity and Link without the world making demands of him is huge. He and Sky Link would be chill besties is all I'm saying. Type 6s and 9s tend to be good friends.
Did I happen to mention that type 6 is filled with self doubt? This boy doubted his ability to be the Hero so much he let the world decide how he should act because he was convinced he would screw it up.
His wing is definitely a 7. 7s are spontaneous, wild, rambunctious, adventurous, and don't plan a second beyond the moment they're living in. He is absolutely a 6w7.
Summary!
Sky: 9w1 Time: 1w2 Twilight: 2w1 Wild: 6w7

Maybe More People Are Arospec (Part 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe More People Are Arospec, 2/3 -So explain the note from slide 5 : As a gray-aro, I want to clarify that most with this label experience gray-aromanticism differently. I can only speak for my own experiences, which is that I don't experience romantic attraction but (in the past) have experienced something that was close enough/briefly maybe the real thing (?) that I can know when attraction ISN'T romantic. (You can read more in my "Squishes vs. Crushes" comic by scrolling down further on my page 🐸) I’m only including this point because this ACTUAL conversation illustrates how much arospec people get told what we’re feeling, even when (in my case at least) we clearly know otherwise.
Which, speaking of - there are SO MANY MOMENTS in this part of the comic that are reinterpretations of things that I've genuinely experienced 😫😫 Sometimes I wonder what took me so long to accept my aromanticism, and moments like what I showed, especially the speech bubbles in the second last slide - gosh. There's a lot to unpack there 🙃 I think if there’s one thing that really surprised me to realize as I made this series, it’s the amount of casual arophobia that’s just … woven into so many stories and common ideologies. And though there’s a lot of work that needs to be done on that front, I will say that on the bright side realizing my identity has allowed me to confront and start to unlearn these harmful sentiments. Like actually understanding it’s not my FAULT that I’m arospec, nor is the expression of my aromanticism a fault of any kind to begin with - it’s really helped improve my mental health these past few years 💚💚
I've also got an update more about my personal life in the comments! But barring that, hello everyone, I'm glad to have this up now and I hope you're all doing well too and taking care of yourself this *holiday* season 🐸💚!!!
[Image Description:
Slide 1: Celia again sits on a green armchair in a living room. "Feelings are murky, and romantic attraction is perhaps the most poorly defined of them all. Ask any two people, and you'll get different answers"
Slide 2: "So … wouldn't it be logical to assume that because society categorizes ANY strong positive emotion for others as romantic love -"
Drawing of a classroom (based off of something Celia would have seen growing up in Health class anyway). Teacher, a faceless ginger woman stands talking gesturing towards a screen.
Screen says: "Signs of romantic love", with smaller icons underneath labelled "you think about them often", "you want to plan a future with them", "you always feel like smiling when you're with them"
The teacher says "True love is a wonderful experience - we'll be going over some of the ways …"
Slide 3: Continued text from last slide "-that maybe, a lot of people miscategorize their feelings for people (especially 'straight' attraction) as romantic attraction?
In this scene a girl seems to be flustered by an aesthetically attractive man winking at her. But in the background you see her thoughts, which ramble on:
"Wow he is so cool! And … he's talking to me? OH MY GOD. Oh no my hair is sucha mess I hope it looks okay? At least I'm wearing my matching hair bows today … Wait do I have a CRUSH on him? I .. don't think so. But I'm also feeling butterflies right? Doesn't that mean I like him?"
Slide 4: "I've been told when I've described my squishes -"
Celia standing in the scene against a blank background. She's describing a squish to someone off panel.
"I don't really know how to describe it … like for some reason you just feel safer and happier to be around them, and you want them to be present in your life, for a long time -"
Someone off panel says "Oh, that just means you're in love" - which is noted in the bottom of the panel that this was referring to romantic love, based on an actual conversation Celia has had.
Slide 5: Celia responds to previous panel. She looks unimpressed and says "… I'm gray-aromantic. I know what a 'crush' feels like. I know that isn't it."
(another note directs reader to description for more information)
Slide 6: Shot switches back to Celia in her armchair. She says "I've heard aros who dated before they realized their identity say that they thought everyone just played along with social norms for romance"
Slide 7: "So I wonder, in a society that demonizes those who say they don't feel the same 'spark' that everyone else describes -"
A boy is drawn sitting at a desk as though in school. In the background speech bubbles paraphrasing common arophobic sentiments in the background:
"He's evil. Of course he wouldn't understand what it means to feel love."
"But like, why can't she feel the same way for him? He's perfect for her - I just don't get what's WRONG with her"
"He's so weird - did you hear how he's never been in a relationship?"
Slide 8: Shot back to Celia in her armchair. She asks the reader "How many people are actually alloromantic?"]

They are different y'all...
Keep scrolling if kinkiness makes you uncomfortable.
Tumblr media
While I've been watching JK's live (post coming soon) someone pointed out the rings JK is wearing in his Seven schedule poster... the ring with the ring on it...has connotations in the BDSM world... those who wear it are signaling their submissiveness. In that same line of thought, Jimin was wearing thumb rings on both hands in his Like Crazy MV... thumb rings in a homosexual context...
Tumblr media
and this could be an outdated thing, but a man is signaling he is open to certain types of sex... this is definitely outdated but at one time men wearing a single earring in the left ear signals he's straight, in the right ear he is gay. In the Like Crazy MV, Jimin had his single earring in the left ear but he looks into the mirror and it is in his right ear.
Tumblr media
The bisexual/bigender coding in the MV was off the charts.
And we already talked about Jimin's Like Crazy MV Mapplethorpe pants and how David Mapplethorpe was deep into the BDSM world.
Tumblr media
We've heard Jimin asking JK if he liked it when he was tied at the wrists and running through the woods... ahem... I've already talked about their lil kinky selves before... I can't find the posts but if you've been following me a while, you know what I've been saying...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have a thing for strappy, tying things...
I've been saying... they are different y'all. Listen to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what are Jimin and Jungkook trying to tell us? Why show us these things? Are these just stylists choices? I think not. There are too many instances for any of it to be coincidence or just a "stylists choice."
The members are too involved in how they express themselves individually during this solo era. Sexual kink is not really a big deal but why even go there? Personally, I love seeing them express ALL sides of themselves. The hints Jimin has given us are more and more explicit as time goes on. I don't buy the argument that "they don't know what that means." Of course they do. They are grown men. They are not virgins. They are living breathing red-blooded males in the prime of their lives.
The way they are presenting these concepts to us is still very conservative when compared to what I see from western artists. What Jimin and Jungkook have shown us, especially Jimin... is very tasteful, elegant, teasing and thought provoking, not raunchy and in-your-face. I want to say to some western artists: I would prefer not to have your twat in my face so please close your legs. But alas...
And now it is Jungkook's time to show us his colors. For some reason I don't mind his crotch in my face... I digress...
Anyway... JK live post coming soon. He's a hoot.
EDIT: Whoa someone got triggered (lmao). Yes, its a very cool ring. And its ok if its just a cool ring for some or most people. Cuz, wow, cool ring. What I said though was the ring "has connotations". I did not say this ring was designed specifically with this in mind. (Reading comprehension is appalling these days.)
But you know... the designer doesn't have to be associated with the lifestyle or even had any intention of associating their design with anything specific. But someone IN the lifestyle would recognize the design motif. This particular ring's attached ring is a "spring" clasp? Like what you use to clasp necklaces? So um... you could attach a chain easily to this ring? I see. Well. Cool ring bro.
And it's also ok if you don't want to see the message Jimin is expressing. I'm sure he's used to people turning a blind eye on what he's trying to say. It's also ok to say your opinion differs from mine and not try to make your opinion the correct one because honestly, no one knows anything and to think you do know, well... that would be next level dumb wouldn't it?

regarding your addition to the "maybe you'd be happier w a romantic partner /j" thing... why even say that in the first place to an aromantic blog/person? they are an aro blog. romance doesn't fly here! even though the tags claim they mean no harm and it was just a joke, it still rubs me the wrong way. when will people understand aromanticism as an identity just as much as any other queer label? you just don't... say that to someone who's aro.
no it's baffling for real... this person particularly i think is a. different case. cause scrolling on their blog it seems like they might be aspec themself and their joke was just INCREDIBLY tone deaf and made with a genuine lack of understanding of the proper social norms that were appropriate to that situation. esp considering they responded to me saying "bad joke try keeping it to yourself next time" with "eh it was worth a try"... this particular person just. maybe does not know what they're doing. obviously i did not express a lot of anger at the joke itself in that reblog but this is because i am choosing to keep my vitriol to myself haha
HOWEVER i think we can also point to the way that society at large both trivializes and makes tragic the aro experience. we're a joke but also everyone's biggest nightmare. our feelings don't matter but also clearly we're in the saddest most pitiable situation ever. and hey. wow. imagine what it would be like to be treated like a person who was normal
anyway the point being. jesus christ how fucking clearly aromantic do i have to be online to get people to STOP talking to me about love

made-up thoughts about dd's gender presentation
Okay, the gender post! Honestly, dd's gender presentation is something I think about a lot (ok, I just think about everything dd-related a lot), so here's a post about it. A couple disclaimers on the way down though.
Gender is weird
Um, so gender is complicated and deep. I'm not gonna delve into that too much. Just know I'm not saying much about dd's gender identity, because that's too speculative for me and I don't tend to analyze how people might feel their gender inside.
So this is all about gender expression or performance. The way he presents himself to the world. This includes stuff like clothing, ways of talking, makeup, mannerisms, etc. Anything we can see when we watch him.
For those more into the advanced gender convo, yes yes, gender is a social construct and there's nothing inherent about, say, a tuxedo that makes it a "man's" outfit. Fully onboard with that. But for simplicity's sake, let's shortcut to acting as if we buy into how society genders random stuff so as to recognize that a tux is "male-coded" by just about every society in the present day. Everybody swims in these waters, and they perform their gender with the understanding of how their society assigns these arbitrary gender assignments, so let's just deal with that for this convo. /obligatory gender theorist disclaimer
East vs West
I'm in the US, and I fully recognize that there are different norms for gender in Eastern cultures. A lot of the things that read as "feminine" to Western eyes is more neutral in the East, such as long hair or makeup. (I've read a fantastic tumblr post that went into this in-depth but, alas, I can't find it now. You will notice throughout this post that I am extraordinarily bad at refinding things)
On top of that, idols, in specific, often have quite feminine stylings to Western standards. In the East, the vibe I get is that idols are seen as more androgynous (though still threatening to some forms of masculinity).
I can only speak from my own very westernized perspective, so take it with as much salt as you want. I reserve the right to change my mind about everything later, anyway.
Basically, I have 3 main points here, starting with:
1. DD's early styling was more femme than he would ordinarily gravitate to
There's a moment I think about a lot. This one, specifically, set a month and a half after UNIQ's debut. The band is on a Chinese talk show and the host enthuses about them.
(also, baby DD rapping Love the Way You Lie is just....well, it's a thing that happened) (some US context: Love The Way You Lie was an Issue Song pointedly about domestic violence with Rihanna - an artist who had been a victim of a highly publicized dv assault - as the chorus singer and Eminem - a rapper with a history of misogynist lyrics (with a song about murdering his ex-gf) - doing the rap. It had a weirdly sexy music video with that lotr guy and was also a thing that happened)
DD is 17 years old here--a baby--and he's, frankly, adorable. He notes that he's been training for 4 years (I'm so curious about what idol training looks like, tbh), which wows the host.
But the part that I think about a lot is when the host expounds at length about how beautiful and like a girl dd is. DD has a girl's hairstyle (i've had that exact hairstyle at multiple points in my life), and the host says at various points that he's "more beautiful than girls", that girls will envy him, that he is very very pretty, that if she were a man, she would fall in love with him. The basic upshot here is that much is made of his feminine looks, and I get the vibe that his styling is more femme than typical, even for an idol.
At the same time, I think about this moment of dd in a dance competition in 2011, before his debut. DD's main passion has always been dancing, and he went into hiphop dancing, as shown here. He also attempted breakdancing while younger, though an early injury apparently kept him from going that route (I swear I've heard this somewhere, but can't find where. Link me if you know).
DD was interested in the more macho-types of street dances. Hiphop isn't as dominated by men as breaking is, but it's still has more of a masculine culture than jazz or, you know, waacking.
I think a lot about a kid who wanted to spend his life dancing, who went through idol training to debut as the femme maknae of a group. It was a weird fit for him, and I think his movement away from that initial look reflects that.
At the same time, I want to go back to something I find significant about his talk show appearance.
When asked who is most popular among girls, everybody (dd included) points to dd. (A bandmate also jokes that dd is most popular among men). A 17-year-old kid who just debuted a little over a month ago with a femme style is already getting fawned over by fans and older female hosts. However weird it could be, it's gotta be a huge ego-boost at a formative time to get the positive feedback to that look.
I think (and putting on my speculation hat here) that this is important for dd's performance of gender as he gets older.
Which brings me to the next main point:
2. DD enjoyed his more feminine idol look bc he knew it made him attractive
I suspect dd came to some acceptance of the more femme styling (once he moved away from the white peony look) primarily because it got him so much fawning.
I imagine idol training goes into how to create a public persona for oneself, especially given how much idols are supposed to reveal of themselves. Letting fans feel that they're getting an intimate look at the real person, while still maintaining the privacy of their actual personal life, is a skill, and I expect it's second-nature to dd at this point given how long he's been in the industry.
This isn't to say that dd's fake or that the dd we see publicly isn't "really" him. But it is a carefully presented version of him that intentionally keeps his private life private.
There's really 2 periods where we probably see the most authentic, unfiltered dd: the early UNIQ days, when he was still getting the hang of the ent industry (though that's complicated in that he was also young and under pressure to perform a certain way and had not developed the skills/experience/cache to set limits, hence him doing a lot more cutesy stuff that he refuses to do as he gets older); and the bts footage for CQL, as he did not expect those to be so widely seen. Even the unscripted stuff like DDU and SDC allows for some intentional presentation of himself in a way the more candid bts moments did not.
That's a bit of a digression, actually, but it's important because I think this public persona, especially the idol persona, is more femme than dd would normally style himself (as in, how he would style himself if he weren't an entertainer). The result of this is that we see some contexts, such as the CQL fanmeetings where dd wears women's outfits, where that idol style is intentionally deployed. Part of the point of fanmeetings is fanservice, and dd's feminine presentation, linked as it is to his idol image, is wholly about pleasing the fans.
There's reason to believe that dd was never too much into those stylings because he intrinsically enjoyed them. He's said multiple times in interviews that he prefers going without makeup. This isn't too telling because, hey, makeup can be uncomfortable to wear. Especially stage makeup.
But there's an interesting compilation of interview clips where dd reveals his complete lack of even any interest in makeup, referring curious interviewers to talk to his makeup artist and explicitly associating makeup with women (I have looked everywhere for this. I swear I saw this compilation on YouTube but now I can't find it. This is unfortunate bc this particular video really made me think about dd's gender presentation). And of course, his attempt to do someone else's makeup was...adorable. This is not a guy who wears makeup for the joy of it. He wears it because it's part of his job.
This isn't to say that dd looks down on it. Not at all. We only have to look at his defensiveness of the idol look to gg during the bts to see this. I don't think he's at all bothered by makeup. He just accepts it as part of his career.
(I have a completely made-up story in my head about how gg's preference for no-makeup dd was a major romantic thing bc it's gg liking the real dd, not the idol persona that everybody else fawns over. And how, once dd realized that gg was paying him a compliment, it gave him big feels. This story is definitely not real)
This all is gonna lead me to my last main point:
3. DD's probably okay taking on a more masculine style now bc it fits more how he would naturally dress himself
Like millions of other people, I really dig the idol look. When I was doing my initial dive into turtledom and read about some of the Chinese censorship of idols in recent years, I was initially put out because...idol!dd!
(Ok, as a queer person, I also have big solidarity feels and stuff, but that's a whole digression)
But then I began obsessively watching browsing dd stuff on YouTube and I came around to thinking that while I love and miss idol!dd, I don't know that dd is too shook up over it.
In my view, dd sees that type of styling as a role to put on for certain performances. Now that it's out of style, so to say, he switches to something else. It goes along with some other career transitions he's making, such as focusing more on film. I think this may just let him go with a more "natural" styling (basically, how he would style himself if he weren't a celebrity).
(I do think he likes dyeing his hair fashion colors, but that's not necessarily gendered. He's had plenty of dyed hair looks that are still masc)
When I think of things like that...well, I still personally miss idol!dd because that look really works for me. But I'm not bothered on his behalf because I don't know that he feels particularly constrained by the idol crackdown (at least with regards to no longer being able to present with an idol style; there are other aspects of the politics that may feel constraining, but that's a whole other digression). If anything, it provides a good reason for him to move away from idol-dom in his career (which he'd have to do at some point as he ages).
To wrap this up, I've felt horrendously guilty that the first photo on this tumblr wasn't even of dd or gg, so i'm gonna end this with a photo of idol!dd. I'm not gonna say it's my favorite look, because it's just cruel to make me pick a single favorite. But this is one I think is pretty.

random unorganized darknights trio + paprika musings bc sometimes i'm hit with like a pang of Brief Worry that i'm completely misinterpreted blabla that usually doesn't last too long bc i then go back to my state of I'm Just Vibing but ig at some point i just gotta let it out publicly once and be done with it lol
this is messily written Please Understand this isn't meant to be a grand thought piece
fuuuck ok well this is like very specifically abt the w, ines & paprika part now
like don't get me wrong on this. i joke abt wines moms and stuff but i dont genuinely mean it in the way of wahh wow littol family for reals kinda deal?
less on wines 'adopting' paprika, moreso paprika imprinting on them like a duckling after she was saved by them. paprika adopted them lmao. i cannot possibly interpret either w or ines as Maternal in such a way.
it's moreso that i think it's nice that this little sarkaz merc became part of the story, a girl who all her life since she was infected at a young age, was presented with becoming a mercenary being basically the only option for her.
and then, as annoying as w can be, being shown that she does have different options.
i just think it's sweet that paprika, judging by her voicelines, clearly looks up to w and ines. which is just amplified by the fact that w and ines are notoriously not the most popular people on rhodes lol. and she calls w annoying but still keeps knitting stuff and wanting to gift food to her. like if she often seeks out w and ines to tell them how well she did on something, when they are on the ship, etc. that'd at least indicate that those two humor her.
ALSO IT'S UNOFFICIAL BUT SHOUTOUT TO THAT LITTLE CHUZENJI ART WITH PAPRIKA AND W, INES & TOTTER WEARING KNITTED HATS SO CUTE
OKAY WOO DARKNIGHTS MERCENARY TRIO AND STUFF
cool yeah obviously i fucking love them. i'm not very good at words though and i tend to keep my more elaborate thoughts to just discussions between friends who know how i tick djsfhdfs
just the other day i was smiling to myself during a walk bc holy shit all three are actually playable now and that's not just wishful thinking anymore. anyway chapter 13 also happened and more stuff with the trio happened and Cool Lots of things Happening and my brain is full
they're so found family to me, like in an utterly unconventional way. i mean c'mon with how they act sometimes like- ykno. but like have y'all seen the new furniture set and descriptions that came with hoederer's release it made me go insanse.
but i think especially in ines' case it just kinda highlights that best. considering ines' arts can figure people out (putting that in rather vague terms), it truly means something when someone with her capabilities and temperament has people she chooses to stick by and actually trust. even if she pretends she doesn't by verbally denying it.
like waugh Okay they have a lot to unpack and shit but with them being reunited (take that, W file that said W needs companionship but her friends aren't around anymore) and having a COMPARATIVELY more ""relaxed"" life than before (that one Hoederer file where he just has rather regular days on rhodes), it's just nice to imagine they can finally have something better and figure stuff out. as complicated as the three of them are.
with that said i think it's a given that i despise a nuclear family treatment of the three (aka mom ines, dad hoederer, daughter w).
for one with me being highly doubtful w was a kid/teen at the start of darknights (young? sure, but not that young), which just seems like such a...widespread belief that i really do not get? arknights always put a LOT of emphasis on when a character's story was about them being a kid, 0 of that with w. like something about her expression and big cloak just gave people some different impression, even though she literally keeps looking the same aside from a change of clothes. only instance of w being called a kid during that time i can think of is that one boiler worker in her files but that seems way more like any typical old guy calling anyone on the younger side a kid. hell, even hoederer was called young in darknights, like in a sarkaz's lifespan i can believe that.
and also...hoederer had somewhat of a mentor-like role for w, but if anyone tries to tell me ines ever acted maternal towards w i will chew through your walls. read through darknights memoir and actually pay attention to ines, both w AND ines were pettyass women and they made that so very clear. cannot fathom how anyone can see ines as having been motherly towards w
seriously just feels like a case of Well there is man and there is woman....and this other character so clearly these are mom, dad and kid.
that's not even me being biased towards w/ines, just how i objectively see it. hell, i even ENJOY ines/hoederer, but my enjoyment of it is limited bc for some reason ppl like to make it weird by shoving w in as some daughter. i promise it's completely possible to like ines/hoederer without trying to fit in w as a kid figure
anyways yeah like cool i like these characters I Guess. Look at them

hello!! this is my selfship introductory post!!!
(i’m posting two versions of this post— one with all these lovely little gifs, and one without, as i know some people can be sensitive to them <33)
my dearly beloved selfship is lawliz 🥰 (or lawlizzie if i want it to sound even cuter lol).
it’s of. uhhhhhh. me and the sweets loving detective from death note/// 👉👈
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(no this isn’t suggestive, it’s just y2k in-universe and i LOVE y2k clothing lol)
Tumblr media
some basics on the selfship!!!
Tumblr media
we appear to be solar opposites in a bunch of different ways!
he’s calm and collected, always keeping things to himself unless he wants to ruin someone’s entire life and be painfully blunt about something HAKDJAHDSJS. whereas i seemingly am open, emotional, and spirited!!
my alias is “juliette rae ambers” (YES i created a full ass pseudo name dhsjdkajdjajajs). but to distinguish me irl and in-selfship-universe me, i’ll refer to my self insert as “juliette” whenever i talk about them.
L first met juliette through a past case, as they did some SHADY looking shit lmao. she’s just that eccentric and erratic <333
SO after spending some time with her, he eventually realizes they’re not apart of the case. like at ALL. but L basically goes “okay. wait, what the fuck’s wrong with her actually?” and continues to spend time with them because of that HAHAJDJSJSKSJS (again— juliette is eccentric and unpredictable.)
watari brings up how excited and affectionate juliette gets whenever he catches a glimpse of them together. L doesn’t get why watari is bringing this up. watari suggests that perhaps, juliette has a crush on L.
yeah, so L’s brain crashes DHSKDJSKDJAJHSAKS
he didn’t even think of that as a POSSIBILITY because he views himself as undesirable, ugly, creepy, etc (🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺)
so L brings this up with juliette. she denies it terribly (because they’re such a mess when they’re flustered), but after relenting, L reveals that he brought it up because he’s interesting in learning more about it. he has trouble identifying his own emotions and hasn’t been in love before, so he asks me to be apart of a study. it’s just information, essentially, letters detailing specific sensations and lovey dovey thoughts i get of him.
i agree to it because i LOVE psychology and have always wanted to be apart of a psychological study!
but at this point, L isn’t in love with me. he slowly falls over time, much to his mental debates on if it’s “ethical” or not. (he’s overthinking it!!! ALSO, WOW, L thinking about morals when it comes to someone?? they must be a ~special someone~ to him 🤭)
the stoic character who keeps to himself is (mutually) in love with the visually expressive, musically inclined jester!!! (does this make sense 😭)
juliette is with L throughout the entire kira case. the first time the taskforce meets L, she’s just standing to his right side (it’s a whole thing) in a lolita getup, so they assume, like watari, that juliette is a maid to L of sorts. but NO, juliette just fucking LOVES fashion lmaooooooo
ANYWAYS, what i’m trying to get to is that juliette loves music. it connects to them on such a deep level, and they love to sing and entertain. so sometimes, as a break/interlude in the kira case, she sings and plays songs. (they’re oddly captivating… just like a performer at an event.)
L can’t have the taskforce knowing him and juliette’s interpersonal relationship, so he and juliette have silently agreed to refer to each other as “associates” whenever the question comes up.
juliette talks out loud a lot as a habit. but, again, she likes to be entertaining first and foremost, so she only says things she thinks will be the most intriguing. she can keep to herself just fine. but L knows. he knows how intentional everything they do is. he can relate, and is intrigued about this part of them. and without fail, he listens, catalogues, and responds to everything she says U///U because he caaaaares 🥹🥹🥹 (much to light’s annoyance during the case lol)
once misa starts to reside in the taskforce headquarters, you fucking KNOW she and juliette would become ✨fashion besties✨ヽ(>∀<☆)ノ 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
juliette is very silly, laidback, loose, witty, thoughtful, and compassionate. will and has been promptly serious when the time calls for it.
juliette has forced L to watch rocky horror with them so. many. times. it’s now their couple movie of sorts aha <3
juliette cannot STAND light. he’s such an arrogant bitch baby, so she insults and burns him constantly (which L… enjoys 👀 JFKSJFKSJDKSJS, HE LOVES THE FACT THAT I CAN DEFEND MYSELF AND THAT I’M NOT A DOORMAT)
it’s so interesting to listen to these two talk. cause like, L is formal, a bit oddly polite in his wording, and naturally uses long words here and there. juliette, on the other hand, is very casual in speech. she casually swears, she refers to others with “dude,” “bro,” and “man,” and uses some slang words here and there. the taskforce members gawk at the sheer contrast sometimes.
so juliette’s mainly goth, right?? misa introduces her to the fashion, and she fucking loves it. her usual goth color combo is hot pink and black!!
…buuuuuut, juliette likes fashion in general, so sometimes she wear “pretty in pink” ass y2k outfits, then at other times glam rock-y, then gritty type of clothing, then elegant, they girly, then—
L loves to see whatever outfit they come up with (he for sure spoils the FUCK out of her hahajdjsjsja awwwwwwwww 😊 <333)
THEY’RE LITERALLY THE “plain boyfriend + alt girlfriend” COUPLE DHSKDHKADJKASJKASJAJA
i could go on and on, but this is an INTRODUCTORY post, soo……….. these are the basics of their dynamic!! i will post art, fics, and just ramble posts in general talking about it!!! :]
you can find more content in my “accidental emo boy meets intentional goth girl(gender neutral)” tag on here, OR on my new, selfship only account @lawliz-indulgence !
i love this little selfshipping community, xxx (✿ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)

Trigun - Inspired by the movie "Wise blood"?
(maybe the book too but havent read it)
Anyways, first I thought it would just be funny to point out some surface visual references of charachters which prolly are too generic to be proof of anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean ehh thats generic enough-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well that too-
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Well the hat and crazy eyes are there
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well the last more recalls Vash's own injurys
Tumblr media
(think there is a scene in his Eriks disguise that match more)
But ok, one could say that this is as arbitrary as any other of my posts that dont deserve to be posted - Until I saw the full movie and got that there may be a deeper and more interessting connection
So trigun is know to have atleast Christian-adjasent themes and the author, even if never or not anymore Christian, seems to have a familiarity and interest with it that goes beyond the usuall japanese "wow cool crossess" and pop kabalah stuff (like NGE and shit or persona having all those occcult demon shit)
So what does it have to do with the movie? Well it is one exploring a theme that seems to be simmilar, even if Wise Blood presents it in a more macabre, black-humor, less sentimental and uplifting way
A world without God - or better said Christ/Love/Forgivness
Triguns whole point about Vash not killing anybody IS in the end an expression of the want of the world to be able to heal, to get better, to people to connect in a true way, of going beyond tricks and self serving rational scientfic interests
Thats why Knifes is kinda a representation of cold, uncarring survival of the fittest, of evolution, of the rule of superior beings by force and cold calculation and deception.
To make a parralel to the movie, it shows a man who cant see Christ, the power of redemption of something beyond himself and his own interests and striving - even if he feels justified by partly believing the things he rejects.
But in the end without them, it becomes a self fullfiling prophecy - his "Church without Christ" - without healing of the blind and resurection, without redemption - it condems him to that, making him blind and dead, and his atempts at repenting for killing some guy for a petty reason futile - not even being able to recupareta the love he gets from a landlady.
The theme of a fake preacher is then what is reflected in Wolfwood in Trigun, who is also just a killer, trained by another one, who can in the end find redemption in death and doing the right thing, even if it has a tragedy to it.
And in a way that illuminates Vash's whole journey more, why he couldnt give up and why it was important for him to find love and not become a more suffisticated monkey in a zoo who's hand only his brother would want to shake...
And thats why Vash not killing is actually cool and good and not stupid - cause of a random movie that butchered a book that prolly was tottally different.
But why the self.depreciation? Isnt apreciating the world and creation, "art", not a dialog, a call and response of unlikely meetings?
If not: Yeah...Sorry

So I’ve always debated with myself if I thought that they have always been together in some way or another and have just hid it all these years and did what was expected of them and got married and had kids. I’ve recently started watching all of the old episodes which kinda made me lean toward that. The way that they would over correct things was just like why are you even correcting that there was notbjng “weird” like me who “over analyzes” everything didn’t think it was questionable. Why are you? Lol. And then also early episodes when they would talk about the kids they always seemed to make it like all 5 were theirs. Even after the usual specifying that they have kids with their very separate wives.
But then I watched the plexiglass kiss episode and wow links reaction to that is crazy. I definitely don’t think that it was something that had ever happened before that moment but also definitely something that he had thought about.
I was trying to find a particular gifset to show you but as usual, I gave up on it. It is a pre-GMM gifset, you may have seen it, where it’s young Rhett and Link and Rhett has this sour expression on his face and tells Link: “Don’t touch me. On my knee. Please.” and Link replies: “Well I didn’t do it on purpose”
This is very telling about how on edge they used to be, particularly Rhett. Of course, I bet this was in public, where they had to prove what straight macho men they were. There is however also a moment in that live-with-audience old GMM they did in which Rhett described the frequent incidents of sleeping in the same bed when travelling with many friends and sharing hotel rooms. He said that most people expected them to be the ones to sleep together and, note, he said: “and I guess we did nothing to stop it”. Of course he could mean that they were comfortable enough with each other that they didn’t mind doing that.
But if we take into consideration how uptight they were in other occasions about much simpler things, I think the actual reason is different.
Rhett and Link never objected to bed-sharing because a) they had the blessing of the others and b) there was no risk of instinctively escalating the situation because there were more people in the room. So they felt safe to sleep together without judgement and without fearing something “sinful” might happen. And of course Rhett also said how he automatically went into “log mode”, not moving, not breathing, hardly even sleeping at all, which he probably said to prove how uncomfortable he felt, except this is when you are uncomfortable because you dread you will get it up at any moment. Link on the other hand slept with “reckless abandon”, meaning that the moment he was getting sleepy and his inhibitions and defences fell, his body instinctively inched close to Rhett and spooned him. Which kinda explains why Rhett couldn’t sleep due to the dread lol.
They were obsessed with wrestling because it was an opportunity to touch and press on each other while appearing as manly men doing manly things.
They had a limit of what could be done in the presence of others and in their privacy until it reached the point of being inexcusable. As long as they had an excuse for it, they did it. If something inexcusable threatened to happen, they overcorrected with aggressiveness and acting macho or emotionally constipated.
I don’t think they had a relationship because they indeed followed the expectations of their faith, except for those acts, as aforementioned, which they had a way to call different from what they were.
But here’s the thing. I have a pet peeve, that notion that they are “idiots” who don’t realise they are in love. Ehm… that just doesn’t happen… or it is super rare anyway. There are things you sense or feel when you are in love or lust. How could this be misinterpreted for decades of close friendship?! Especially in men, there are unmistakeable signs in their physicality that can betray sexual interest and, let’s be real, Rhett has managed to hoist the flag in GMM, while filmed, in front of thousands and his employees at least twice. All I am saying is he is very physically responsive and as the hormone-crazed teenager he was, well, if, IF he was into Link, then things would happen that would make it unquestionable to him.
For this and many other reasons it would take me ages to mention in their entirety, I think they knew or suspected there was more between them. But they had a silent pact to just ignore it forever. I also think Rhett was the one blocking out the questionable incidents most of the time and Link repressed himself for the sake of Rhett’s friendship, out of fear of not losing him entirely. But I also think that this is also one of the reasons they remained close friends for so long - they were addicted to the fact that it felt like something reciprocal was going on between them while they simultaneously felt safe enough that nothing “bad” would actually happen. It was that good old “push and pull” or “hot and cold” if you will, that was so invigorating in their relationship.
Until Rhett, based on that very same principle, decided to kiss Link through plexiglass in front of millions. He felt safe enough to do it. Except apparently Link eventually said “you know, Rhett, and Jesus, enough is enough” (as hinted in his diary entry after the plexiglass kiss, which he has READ to us) and Rhett had not built strong enough defences against Link’s newfound determination.

BINGOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
In all honesty. When I first watched Third Beat I was so jawdropped by him and what he's doing and it made me irrationally scared to the point where I forgot about taking screenshots (i usually do so for future reference). and a month after I still caught myself thinking back to i7 because to me it was just another anime but HE was one of the characters that made me stay. He made me want to know what happens next So Much that I spent hours on wikis and websites searching more info on how to access more stories besides the anime. I AM SO NORMAL ABOUT HIM
and when I continued thinking back to him I found myself with the following thoughts: "evil. so hot." and "wow. he's like. proper disgusting. im intrigued!!!!" and by lords. when i first drew him on emotion it felt like an electricity jolt to my brain. I was never the same since. and I went back to rewatch Third Beat. and I read third part and fourth part and.
It's always a stage play and he's performing for everyone. If nobody's paying attention to him, he will point all lights to himself. But not in that way, pay attention in a different way. Love him, like him... If nobody likes him, then everybody shouldn't. If he is bad, then he should be the worst. If he wants something, he will get it. There are so many cracks within his fragile ego facade. And the only ones for him, the only ones he could peel this wrapping for, even if for a bit, are Riku and Momo. (and ZOOL in pt6)
I project onto him and make many headcanons because I can relate to a lot of his characteristics that CAN BE VERY MUCH MISSED BY THE AUDIENCE WITH HOW QUICK AND SUBTLE THEY ARE. or maybe im just catching myself in the "he's just like me fr" and starting to make things up You never really know with this sort of stuff.
There are two Ryous for me -- the bastard evil guy I want to impale and the Canonly Childhood Traumatised and coping with it in the worst ways possible (which is a recurring theme for characters in i7). I do feel like he gets a lot of hate because people (rightfully so) don't wish to delve deeper into his character because he serves as a good plot device even in his "irredeemably evil" state. I think that another layer of "sinister" gets placed on top considering that He Can Get Worse. it's always possible with the kinds of situations that a lack of regulation and help can bring and He Did Get Worse (ex: balcony scene)
The bastard evil guy is a good flavour of Ryou too because of the situations he can put others in. He's silly, unpredictable, evil, remorseless, sadistic, and absolutely unhinged. hes probably good in bed because of that but please disregard this whole sentence right now. everyone else is wrong and right about him because of how little we get of his screentime that is really about himself but THERE IS SOOO MUCH SO MUCH.
re: aesthetic, gender, design. awooga. 2/3 of my fave colours (orangeish yellow and purple), fave hairstyle (middle part), fave eyes (dead inside), fave frame (look at his back!) I WANT TO STEAL HIS GENDER. I LOVE THE murderous aesthetic I love the playhouse wife aesthetic i love the "i want to be the spoiled child" thing hes got going on . i love his outfits i love his expressions i love his moves i love HIS DESIGN. I FUCK WITH IT SO HARD PLATONICALLY WJAT AM I SAYING AT THIS POINT
Anyways. that was like. a fraction of my thoughts i just scrolled back up and realised ive been torturing you with my elder-scroll worth of text wall

Wait a second! I knew I've seen you around! Crys!
Also, holy heck in a handbasket. Why are you also not an EBG participant? I've seen you on a couple blogs, notably, Meirin's and Dresvi's, and I really enjoy your shenanigans.
I like how you take things in unexpected directions. I thought the whole idea of bringing the Adepti in as players in Meirin's blog was such an amazing choice. You have a lot of talent in writing different sorts of characters, and I like it a lot.
I also like how you can find a way into blog arcs. With the way you write, you're flexible enough to push the writers on the other end just enough to get them to open up into the lore they have. I remember you pushing Elzer in Dresvi's blog just enough to drop little tidbits about the general lore and the fire situation that's apparently going on in there.
Also, do not get me started on how entertaining it is to watch you start up shenanigans in Meirin's tea house. It's so much fun to read your shenanigans.
I never know what I'm gonna get when I see you as an asker, and that makes it fun.
Like with Risu, I hope that you do end up being an EBG participant. I'm honestly amazed by how much mastery you have for different character voices. But even if you don't, it's been fun watching you cause a lot of fun shenanigans. I hope you continue to cause all the chaos.
There's only one day left, so I look forward to seeing what other shenanigans you get up to.
✌️
sfcvgsahvcajshcbsakn AYOOOOOOOOOO WHAT I'M HONORED PLS???
ANON WHO ARE YOU LET ME HUG YOU RN THANK YOUUUUU Again I did briefly consider it but I was just coming back from a trip for vacations, starting back work again, had other stuff going on stressing me also I genuinely don't think I have the brainpower to make a plotted EBG lmao
Also I feel like idk for something like this I'd like to establish some more lore about my OC/avatar? hehe. A lot of wonderful friends (most notably @meimeimeirin @floraldresvi @moraxsthrone and @localplaguenurse) have been really inspiring me to write more and kinda... open up more? feel more comfortable with myself in my blog? bc I always had this idea of being kinda "anon" and be a little removed from my own posts and writing, but they've given me courage to be myself and have fun and do what I want and that includes selfshipping which I never really... did much? But it's so much fun! It's so fun to RP, to share silly little headcanons and ideas, to express your love and happiness for characters, and share that supporting others too and making them happy! Anyway wow I got sappy. Point is, I do hope to kind of... introduce myself/my OC and be a little more "me" about my bias if that makes sense? because that is what the ebg is all about (I think?) that funny and weird "hey this person who loves X character is now forced to get out of their comfort zone and simp for Z instead lmao"
pls I had forgotten how much fun RPing could be I feel like I haven't done so in yeeeears and I still think I'm rusty scvgasjbvcjhak but I used to love it and I do love to write
EBG has been so much fun! Even as a spectator, and I sure hope to participate someday but pls literally all of this was so sweet schajbckas I am not worthy of that much praise aaaaaaaaaaa
I AM VERY PROUD AND HAPPY WITH MY SHENANIGANS AT RIN'S TEAHOUSE HAHAHAHAHA and knowing I gave her some good laughs and she has also been enjoying it's all worth it
ty anon this has been an experience, but also to know people see me like this just... pls Imma cry, I'm thankful to be so loved <3

Helloo
So i just finished reading that ask about Harry as a wizard-cop, and i totally needed to read that. Like two days ago a friend told me she stopped reading HP when she found out that Harry wanted to be a cop (yeah she's dramatic like that, i love her). We talked about it a bit, and, like i always say to my friends "Yeah, JKR sucks, but fanfiction is awesome!" . And i remember mentioning castles to her, and one part that i can't find right now, it was very short, and it was harry working as part of the crowd-control team of people manifesting (is that how you say it?), he was in disguise i think (was that in castles? man! i read a lot of things at the same time and get confused ). And THAT was when the "WOW he's a cop" really sunk in, because, well i've been on the other side of that hittin-stick when i was a teenager (what's the name of that stick? you know, the stick that cops use to hit people) and well, i sort of wanted to burn all of my HP books after that (i didn't of course🫣).
Anyway i don't think i've ever read a canon compliant fic that adressed Harry's carreer choice the way you do, which i find sooo interesting and necessary. I have (i hope) grown up a bit since a was 16, and talked to a few cops (yeah teenage me is 😲), and some of them really start working in the police because they genuinely want to help. I didn't know what to say, because that's the same person who hits teenagers manifesting for more founds to public schooling, but also rescued a friend's mom from a violent relationship, which is, you know, a really good thing. I devoured those parts, when you describe this internal moral fight Harry has and the way he also grows up, from wanting to be an auror to "catch the bad guys", like a videogame, to facing all these dilemmas with it being a part of a goverment, with laws, regulations and obligations. Pffffff can you imagine dear Harry James following all those RULESSS?
ok so i've talked enough, love all your work!! i hope some of this makes sense lol. Have a great week!!
oh, i'm so glad you resonated with that! obviously, i have a lot of thoughts!
so, yes, that is in castles! it's chapter 11 after Kingsley's Ministry grants are handed out, thanks to the Blair loan:
Officially (and, for what it’s worth, even knowing his own feelings towards Kingsley, Harry honestly believes him on that one), most of the recovery grants were distributed to a selection of wizarding businesses deemed to have suffered the largest losses during the war. Applications were submitted in the month that followed the passing of the bill and the list of successful applications was compiled by Ministry staff on the basis of a complex matrix including the difference between pre-war and post-war turnovers, expenses incurred to repair the sometimes extensive damages suffered within the premises, the viability of their recovery plans, etc. It all sounded good - at least on paper. In actual fact, this thorough assessment led to an overwhelming number of grants being awarded to businesses owned by people generally known to have been on Kingsley and the Order’s so-called “side,” during the war.
The moment the allocation decisions were made public, a wave of disgruntled Knockturn Alley shop owners found their way into the many offices of different press outlets across the country, soon expressing their innumerable grievances, and less-than-favourable opinions of the current government which, according to them, was operating under unconscionable biases. At the Burrow, this strategy enraged George (and, in her correspondence, Ginny, who’d spent hours with he and Ron going over Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes’ accounting and writing their application) who slammed The Prophet against the kitchen table and expressed what sounded like a rather fair point: ‘Their bloody shops weren’t torched, were they?’
In response to this latest wave of criticism, the Head of Kingsley’s new Money Matters Department, Bernardus Dee-Poquets, gave a rather unfortunate interview on Radio 5, attempting to ‘give more context’ on the decisions made. Instead of smoothing things over, this position only further enraged the opposition, prompting a spontaneous protest to take place in Knockturn Alley with placards that read: WE DON’T NEED CONTEXT WE NEED GALLEONS! (which, frankly, Harry also couldn’t help but think was a fair point).
He and the other Aurors were soon called in for ‘crowd control,’ an idea that began sounding terrible as soon as they were asked to put on their riot gear. On the way there, Robards added fuel to the fire by making it abundantly clear to whoever was willing to listen that this ‘peacekeeping’ operation had been forced upon him by the Head of the DMLE and was neither his choice, nor his idea, which in turn meant that no one in the Auror ranks actually wanted to go in. That day, Harry’s afternoon began with their unit chief whispering in his ear to make his hair blond and hide his scar with make-up again, ‘just-in-case,’ and ended with incapacitating shots being fired from all sides, fumigation potions thrown at a mob they’d kettled in on Burke Street, and a spell that sliced Harry’s arm open, landing him in the mediwizards’ tent for the second time in less than six months. Until he regained the full use of his fingers a couple days later, the letters he wrote to Ginny looked like they had been drafted by a six year old child.
Since then, most of the office has been reluctant to do - well - anything beyond the bare minimum, doing nothing to help Robards’ staffing problems. Half the Aurors on Harry’s floor have now repeatedly called in sick for a few days at a time with increasingly more outrageous excuses ranging from ‘sleepiness,’ to ‘dragon pox,’ and even once: ‘wandrot’ - a wizarding disease that Harry unfortunately decided to ask about at lunchtime in the middle of the trainees’ table. Katie Bell almost choked on a piece of broccoli and Ron’s whole face turned scarlet. The resulting explanation made Harry feel irrationally protective of the most intimate parts of his body for the rest of the afternoon.
---
and, like, yeah, it's funny, but it's also - not, you know? i think i want this moment to sound like a "fun" anecdote but i think it also feeds into what i was saying in the original post, about the post-war low-level "crime" that feels somewhat endemic and unsolvable. here, of course, it's knockturn alley shop owners, which i suppose we all don't have much sympathy for, but perhaps, we should? the thing about the post-war wizarding economy is that it's full of petty crime and black market stuff and disgruntled demonstrations - because these people have spent years trying to survive and make a living under the hold of an authoritative government, and now not only is democracy not really bringing in money, but it's also preventing them from operating the way they used to. and even if it's nothing at scale, i think the endlessness of it kind of wears down your morale, as a ministry employee.
as you very rightly say, i think most people who join police forces aren't horrible people. like, sure, a percentage of them just wants to beat people up and get paid to do it, but that's not the majority. i think for the most part, there's a lot of big-eyed kids like harry who just want to "save" people. and then, you get called in to these ops and you start realising that "crowd control" is a scam and that putting people in jail is a bit pointless when what is being held against them is just trying to survive and feeding their families. and, of course, there's also multiple aspects to this, because they also sometimes do intervene in stuff that is useful like domestics and stuff (although, there's this whole thing about how police often doesn't believe women, but that's a whole different debate). so, i think, with harry's "early" time at the ministry, i wanted to show the different layers to that.
and, it's funny cause i expected to get a lot of angry comments about harry becoming a hit wizard because of the sort of violence that is associated with those kinds of departments, but i actually didn't. i think the above is sort of the reason why he joins though. it's like: he wants to save people, and that's what they do. their operations are big enough, it's never petty crime, they have a lead (hawk) who knows what he's doing and who can make difficult decisions, and they get in, intervene, and get out. it's not about fighting disgruntled shop owners, you know? or pointless trafficking of magical objects. and, it’s also not detective-like investigative work which, frankly, i don’t think he has much patience or focus for. especially, feeling kind of like a nameless cog in the investigative machine. to me, the hit wizards was the only way to make auror!harry work within the "reality" of what the police force is.
(i think that stick is called a "baton?" i know the term to "baton charge". english speakers - please confirm 😆. in french, it's a matraque.)
but anyway, thank you so much for your kind words, i'm so glad you enjoyed those parts. i have a lot more in store for harry-as-an-auror throughout the fic, so it's lovely to see people enjoy it!

on episode 10 and consent
first to get everything out of the way. I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE GLAD TO BE PROVEN WRONG. sure there was a fade-to-black technically, but it was already while they were kissing. and honestly that scene was just so them. how jun-ho initially couldn’t help himself (BOIIII I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WANTED TO INVITE HER IN AFTER NOT EVEN ONE DATE) but immediately backs off the moment young-woo looked uncomfortable, how as always she took the first lead - even that pause in the middle as they were figuring how to kiss didn’t feel awkward at all. it was natural because it was them.
honestly, this was a difficult episode to watch. there were plenty of grey areas here. in a switcheroo from the North Korean defector episode, the jury finds the defendant not guilty, but the judge does. and while young-woo is absolutely correct that just because you’re a person with disability doesn’t mean you no longer have any agency, especially when it comes to love, his prior record and the money thing did work against him. while I don’t discredit that he may truly have loved her, like how he never seemed angry at her, it also seemed as if he was desperate to avoid jail time using the sweetheart defense. too often, we have many people who still don’t understand that just because a person didn’t explicitly say ‘no’ doesn’t mean it’s automatically a yes. so her loving him did factor into lessening his sentence, which would’ve been a lot harsher otherwise. (I’ll probably rant about my favorite cases in a separate post later on.)
and that’s why I really love jun-ho and young-woo’s relationship. and this show in general. because it never fails to remind us of the beauty of consent in a relationship, even in many instances when it could’ve relied on tried and favorite tropes like the kabedon or forceful kisses, it chooses to go a different way. perhaps this case served as a contrast to them. and I loved that before that moment, young-woo makes her fears known. she tells him that it would be hard loving her. and I love, love, that he doesn’t sugarcoat it. he says, yes of course it’ll be hard, for the both of them. but when she asks if he’ll choose to love her anyway, that weighted pause and grave yes just shows to me the depth of his feelings. It’s not even just liking her anymore, but loving her. the choice matters so, so much in this case. for the both of them.
I seriously love how they continue to break those norms. even as a couple, they take turns walking each other home. jun-ho is expressive about the things he wants from their relationship - like walking her home or holding hands - but never being forceful about it. he handles it with delicacy. and again, I love that he can be jealous because of her, and even be angry and hurt because of her, and tell her about it. too often, as was repeated in this episode, persons with disabilities get treated as if they’re made of glass, purely innocent and soft, so many people would handle them with kid gloves. but jun-ho, as he (violently later on) points out and demonstrates, he treats young-woo not as someone to be pitied, but as the woman he loves.
speaking off, he really went OFF. as young-woo would say, wow. I was waiting with bated breath in that scene, but I didn’t think he’d actually go for his friend’s throat. while violence is not the answer, the scene was good for two reasons. one, it shows how serious he is about young-woo and that he’s firm in the belief that it’s the others who are weird, and not them. second, it shows that he’s not perfect. he’s someone who constantly has to work hard too, to be patient and kind, and that he’s also saddled with his own worries. (by the way, that mention of his parents may be just some one-off thing, but it could also mean something down the line. Seriously while I don’t think he’s Tae su-mi’s son since neither of them reacted during the umbrella scene, if they do go with that plotline, he’d probably be her adopted rather than biological son since he seems the same age or older than young-woo.) to add, another reason why that scene was good is because we finally get a preview of min-woo’s fate. rest in peace min-woo. speaking off, while he remains a jerkity-jerk, I gotta say he has pretty good instincts.
speaking of tae su-mi. wow, young-woo’s father really went off. I really don’t want to hate tae su-mi. I want to think that there’s something more to it and that somehow she does have young-woo’s interests at heart, and it’s not just because she’s worried about the minister of justice position. but man oh man, I don’t blame him for reacting the way he did.
addendum, young-woo tried to make the su-yeon x hairy ship work, and we love her for it, but alas dashed by food puns. and I seriously love how she describes su-yeon, ‘a spring sunshine angel’. my gosh, I love all of the girls in this show.

Tumblr media
As I’m experiencing my fair share of writer’s block with my other projects, I have decided to embrace the irony, and write about four writing myths that I think all aspiring writers should know about, and learn to avoid. And at the suggestion of a friend these myths have been helpfully sorted based on their likelihood of torpedoing someone’s attempt at creating new work.
While the list is obviously intended for new writers, it will hopefully be of use to others as well.
Tumblr media
This is honestly such a common stumbling block that I’m just going to say it outright, Talent is as Stirner would put it, a spook. Outside of perhaps the realm of sports and martial arts, there’s no secret sauce passed down from the gods, God, or genetics that magically sets a people apart from the rest. Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, Shakespeare, Etgar Keret, they’re not famous authors with dozens of published works because they ‘bloomed into their God given talent’, it’s because they earnestly put in the work to improve their skills in a field they love.
So everytime you sit in front of that empty page, and can’t bring yourself to write, don’t think, “Oh God doesn’t want this for me”, “Oh I’ll never be as good as those talented people”, “There’s no point, it’ll never get easier, I’ll never get any better because I’m a talentless hack” because no one is talented, it’s a spook. It’s just a way for people to tamp down their jealousy by externalizing the process of writing. After all, the counterpart to “I’ll never be as good as those talented people” is “Because those people never had to work to get that good”, they didn’t earn it, god just gave it to them.
Now I admit that everyone’s circumstances are different, and there’s a hell of a lot of ways for someone’s familial or personal wealth, social standing, and place of birth to offer genuine advantages for learning the craft. After all, it does still take time that not everyone can spare, and it still costs a fair bit to get the tools for it even if you’re learning it ‘by yourself’ since pen and paper sure aren’t free, and boy oh boy do gadgets love to break down.
But you have to remember to not put yourself down if you’re struggling to write, or think you’re just not good enough yet. Everyone goes through it, and honestly like eight years and God knows how many pages in I still go through it. Writing is hard, but it’s hard for everyone, you’re not uniquely terrible or talentless for feeling this way, it’s normal, it’s fine, you’re doing good.
And honestly, everyone looks back and thinks, "Oh I'll never be as good as the old Masters", it's normal, but also honestly wrong. Like it or not one day your kid or grandkid is going to dunk on their version of modern lit and go, "God, I wish Hussie was still around, Homestuck was so good, nothing like the trash they’re pumping out today."
Tumblr media
Probably not the first time you’ve heard this one before, but it bears repeating because I sure as hell fell for it so here goes:
Your first draft doesn’t have to be good, it doesn’t have to be presentable, it does not have to be anything but the barest expression of your ideas put on paper. You don’t have to worry about expressing your ideas as best as you can, you just have to try and express them.
There’s no sense in stumbling over each paragraph in near isolation, and then doing it all over again as a finished whole later anyway, when you could just write it all out and proofread and edit it then. This doesn’t mean you can’t workshop ideas, or go back to add, or remove a tidbit, or a paragraph every now and then, but just don’t fall into the trap of real time editing. As the friends who I ask to proofread every other paragraph of anything I write will attest to, it's not going to make you a better writer, just a slower one.
In the end your first draft is never going to wow anyone with its presentation, and it’s honestly not meant to. Ignore the urge to be a perfectionist and just write, don’t get bogged down in the petty details and craftsmanship till you’re done.
Tumblr media
This is technically two Myths, but I think they’re closely related enough to count as one. Not every story needs an extremely well thought out and planned storyline and setting, but conversely, you generally can’t just sit down and write without a plan and expect it to be good. The latter mostly applies to longer form works, but we’ll start with the former for now.
As a writer, it can be easy to get caught up in an idea, and let it carry you along into a sort of feature creep. You’re not just writing a story about the dragon hunting adventures of a silly, lovestruck knight, and his fellow knight who yearns to be his equal and perhaps lover anymore, now you suddenly need to invent a setting, with your takes on fantasy races, their histories and cultures, and detailed descriptions of the various realms and what they contend with. It just keeps growing and growing until you give up and just resign the idea and all of your work so far to the realm of “Maybe I’ll get back to it later.”
Not everything needs to be Tolkenian in scope and planning, you don’t have to start from a world and work your way back to a story, if it’s not going to come up, then don’t worry about it. You can always expand on ideas as you go along and, as long as you keep note of everything you’ve established then you should be fine.
That’s how Tolkien did it, and if Conlang George the usual outlier who made up like fifty languages for fun during WW1 and 2 didn’t just sit down and pontificate about every nitty gritty of his setting before writing the first ‘middle-earth’ story, then you really shouldn’t expect yourself to for every work.
But you should plan your works, it doesn’t have to be a big multi page pitch bible but, it’s generally a good idea to jot down a couple of paragraphs to set the story’s flow and premise, both to ground you as you riff along the details, and also just to remind you in case something happens.
Even if you’re writing the flashiest of fics with a concrete premise in your mind that you just need to put down to paper. It still doesn’t hurt to make a note of it first, you know, just in case literally anything happens to disturb your work, and you end up coming back to a blank page, or a few sentences you can’t quite remember the point of.
Tumblr media
This is less of a conceptual trap and honestly more of a personal skill issue, and it’s honestly not all that relevant for someone who’s already read this deep into an article about common writer myths and mistakes. But when I first started out, I was transfixed by what I could best describe as an urge for linguistic or should I say stylistic purity. I didn’t want to be overly influenced by other people’s writing, I wanted to develop my own style, and that meant reading less, avoiding learning about writing from other people, and not seeking out criticism no matter how constructive from other writers.
I grew out of it eventually, but it led to me picking up a lot of bad writing habits both from my hubristic avoidance of learning the fundamentals, and from course correcting out of it down the line. This was almost definitely caused by my fragile sense of pride, but I do think that a part of it was fueled by a mix of the first myth, and the common trope for writers in fiction to be depicted as somehow being isolationist in nature, that it necessarily involves some degree of separation from society at large to do ‘proper’ writing, when this is simply untrue.
Writing and art in general are fairly collaborationist in nature, as a writer you simply cannot and will not improve if you are unwilling to work with people. If you cannot take criticism, if you don’t think there’s anything you could learn from other writers, if you intentionally cut yourself off from all that, you are never going to become a better writer. Not to yourself, and certainly not to anyone else.
*
And that was four common writing myths that every writer should learn to avoid. There’s definitely more myths I could cover, such as the general expectation that a good work will get a good reception and thus a good reception equals a good work, but we’re already 1500 or so words into this article and, four is a good number for endings.
