man i just keep having this totally irrational feeling that if i go and apply at the same job where i first met this boy almost 3 years ago exactly now that somehow it would magically turn back the clock and he'll show up for the first time again and i could spent less of the time before he moved away being unnecessarily anxious or such a wallflower about everything and that maybe i wouldn't be feeling so sad about it rn if i had just enjoyed those brief six months a little bit more while it was still happening
#i feel so strongly and so irrationally that i walk back in that store again he'll somehow be there too#and it'll just be 2019 and i can do it again and#man. it's not even regret that makes me want to try to do it all again it's just feeling that i rly didnt appreciate it enough at the time#and now it's probably over for ever or at least it could never be the same again anyway bc i mean rly nothing ever is regardless#it's just..... so sad for me ig i just feel so sad about it.#also ive been sad about him all week and somehow today it just hit me#that we met when he was 24 and i was 20 and it's been 3 years since then so he's 27 now#which somehow makes me feel even more sad and pathetic about being sad#like he literally left this state two years ago and he probably has a whole life out there#and likely does not spend that much time thinking about some 23 year old he knew 3 years ago for six months#sorry to be so dramatic and sad and all that on main#i feel embarrassed to bring this up with my friends bc it just all feels so frivolous and it was like. years ago.#how has it taken me two and a half years to be this freaking sad about it. truly what on earth man#:(#and i probably won't but even if i did text him now that just seems like it'd be so selfish#when he literally moved away 2.5 whole years ago and has probably moved on from whatever feelings he may have even had#like who takes this long to realize they miss someone. who woudl appreciate even hearing from them after this long#idk it's fine I'm gonna go wash my hair since i cut it short again today (well my mom cut it. shout out to her lol)#anyway it's fine! ill be normal about this in a few days probably and then will go back to once again living my life#wisconsin boy#it's kinda depressing to use that tag again but in case u don't wanna see this nonsense pls feel free to filter it out lol I understand

“m’gettin sick,” osamu sniffles from his cocoon on the couch. ever since he got home he’s been quiet and sleepy, cuddling up with a blanket despite being hot to the touch.
one thing you’ve learned about osamu, is that he is never sick. ma always joked about how despite every illness that passed through the twins’ schools, teams, or even work; osamu made it out perfectly healthy. you’ve found this to be true. even when you’ve been at your worst, osamu’s immune system has never faltered.
“i can’t be sick,” osamu’s mumbled voice is stuffier than normal, and his nose is a rosy pink. “i got work in the mornin’.”
“not like this, you don’t,” you pour some water from the kettle into his cup and dip the tea bag inside. he waves you off.
“what? just close shop for a day? i can’t do that,” he snatches a few kleenex from the box on the counter, turning around when you raise an eyebrow at him.
“you can actually, and you should.” you slide the tea over to him before heading towards your shared bathroom. “just post something tonight to give everyone a heads up.”
osamu shuffles behind you, tea in one large palm with tufts of kleenex in the other. he huffs when he feels hot once again, flinging off his sweat shirt as quick as he can.
“but kita-“
“kita can deliver to our house, baby. we can bring the rice over a different day.”
you fold your arms and stand by the bath as it fills. osamu copies you, leaning against the doorframe with a pout.
despite being sick as a dog, he won’t go down without a fight. out of principle, of course.
“what about the special i was gonna run?”
“you can do it next week,” you test the water with your palm before adding some epsom salt in.
“what will the regulars do when they head to the store?” osamu puts his palms up dramatically and snorts when you roll your eyes.
“im heading into town tomorrow, i can put a sign in the door. trust me ‘samu, i think they will appreciate you being closed. who wants to eat onigiri from someone with a runny nose?”
he doesn’t say anything. for a minute, you think he’s finally rested his case. after he slips in the bath and lets out a comfortable sigh, he decides to put one last ditch effort in.
“produce gets delivered tomorrow! i have to be there for that!” he’s comically large in the small tub the two of you share, knees folded up as he tries to sink in. you shake your head and he groans.
“fine, fine. okay. i’ll close tomorrow. ya happy?”
“thrilled,” you place a towel next to the tub and sit down. “you need to rest, samu. the shop will be there when you’re better, i promise.”
he pouts again, but this time it’s genuine.
“but i’m never sick,” he splashes water on accident when he leans his head back against the wall. “i take good care of myself! i take my vitamins, drink lots of water, get good sleep,”
your lips tug into a smile.
“and that will help you beat whatever you have even faster. but for now, let’s take it slow okay? get plenty of sleep, heal your body, and stay home.”
osamu nods, and let’s his eyes close. he soaks for a few minutes, relishing in the relief his achey joints feel for the first time all day. while he gets ready for bed, he can’t help but feel his heart swell as he watches you grab extra blankets for his side, knowing he will probably be chilly tonight.
“i’m probably gonna sore with all this shit in my nose,” he sinks under the covers, propping his head up on the extra pillows you set up for him.
“you snore anyway,”
“do not! ya liar,” he smacks your bum when you snuggle up next to him. “don’t touch me, i’ll get ya sick. i’m real contagious,”
you place a big kiss on his forehead before getting back to your original spot.
“i’ll take my chances,” you listed to osamu’s steady heart while he falls asleep. osamu is always taking care of you, grabbing your favorite things from the shop because he’s thinking of you. carrying you when your feet hurt from the heels he told you not to wear, bringing you glasses of water because he knows you aren’t drinking enough, and never asks for anything in return.
“i love ya,” osamu whispers, half asleep and hums when you squeeze him closer.
“i love you too, samu. sleep well.”

Deeply fucking unsettling things about the Honored One himself, Satoru Gojo
Thanks to his ability to fuck with gravity, you put him in a blank, empty room with identical walls, floor, and ceiling with no doors or windows, he'll quickly lose track of which way is up. Realistically this situation would probably never happen, but the concept freaks him out ever since Geto made a joke about it once.
Gojo's body maintains a perfect thermodynamic equilibrium, making his skin creepily cool to the touch. He can go out in a blizzard with shorts on, and between that and Infinity, he'd be perfectly fine. It makes for a cool party trick, because he can stick his hand in a candle flame or put cigarettes out on his arms with no ill effects.
He's unsettlingly clean at all times, because dirt can't touch him. Gojo hasn't needed to use stain remover on his uniform in years.
He quite literally has six eyes. He keeps four of them shut and all of them hidden most of the time, though, because a) looking into all six at once would liquefy the brain of your average human, and b) his Six Eyes are constantly feeding unfathomable amounts of information into his brain every second. Even with his tolerance to his powers and mastery of the reverse curse technique, there's only so much stimuli a human brain can process without completely shutting down, and Gojo doesn't want to find out what that'll do to him--in a nutshell, just because he can see things that mankind can't even hope to comprehend doesn't mean he wants to.
He can perceive the entire electromagnetic spectrum, meaning he can see shrimp colors. Everyone else desperately wants him to describe the shrimp colors. Gojo continues to smugly refuse.
Because of his reverse curse technique constantly refreshing and regenerating his body, he just. doesn't really need to eat anymore. or drink. or even breathe. His body is basically frozen at peak physical condition, and it's very likely that he is functionally immortal.
Sometimes, Gojo forgets what pain feels like, because nothing can touch him. Pain feels almost like pleasure to him, because nothing can hurt him. Nothing can even touch him, and Gojo has secretly developed a perverted interest in seeing how badly he can mutilate himself before he's forced to reengage his technique and heal.
Gojo can bend and contort himself in ways that aren't humanly possible, run faster and farther and lift heavier objects than anyone alive, because his body can repair itself almost as fast as it's damaged, depending on how severe the injury. Basically, he has permanent hysterical strength, letting him push his body past its limits to perform feats that would kill a normal human with no ill effects.
Gojo doesn't sleep. He literally can't unless he releases his technique, because his body is constantly being refreshed and doesn't need to shut down. Oh well, it's for the better. He's most vulnerable while he's sleeping anyway, and it opens up his schedule by a lot.
His teeth grow now, almost like a rodent's. He has to file them down to be able to open and close his mouth properly, along with much more frequent trimming of his hair and nails.
His skin is oddly smooth, and unnaturally pristine. Gojo hasn't recieved a single scar since Toji sliced him open, and all the ones he'd recieved before are healed flawlessly at this point. His hands are so soft they make it look like he hasn't fought a day in his life, because calluses aren't able to form anymore.
Gojo's been around the world countless times now. He can go wherever he wants with a thought; the only cost is his sanity. Warping himself across the Pacific for lunch in San Francisco is fun, but he can only do it a few times a week if he doesn't want to have another... ah, episode.
These episodes involve blackouts, gaps in his memory where his powers manage to slip their leashes from overuse and literally short-circuit his brain. He's only had a few so far, and every time, he wakes up in the infirmary completely unscathed, with blood all over his clothes and an awful fucking migraine. Nobody knows what happens or where he goes, and all Shoko's been able to tell him is that when it happens, he seems to go into a giddy fugue before blasting his way out of the compound and vanishing for anywhere from days to weeks. Gojo's absolutely terrified of these episodes, because he's wholly aware that if he lost it for real, nobody would be able to stop him.
He looks human enough, but if you look closer, he quickly starts to set off the uncanny valley effect. It's like a wolf in sheep's clothing--because you know how dangerous he is, even though he appears relatively harmless at first. Everyone who meets him has the same fear response clawing at the back of their mind as their hindbrain screams at them to fucking run, because Gojo is an apex predator in the body of a prey animal. His very presence awakens primal fear that's been entrenched in every human since the dawn of time--the fear of things that go bump in the night, of cosmic horrors beyond what mankind can even hope to comprehend.
His eyes glow all the time now, and the energy crackling in the air around him feels like the static that comes before a lightning strike. Satoru Gojo is insistent that he's still human even though he's the strongest, but... is he, really?

Hi how about an Enid Sinclair x Male! Reader. where both are werewolves and wake up together one morning after a full moon night in the woods[Not with clothes on, of course]. They haven't talked much to each other before but they know each other anyway Enid knows everyone. Throughout the day, both remember what happened and that there was nothing "bad" about it. They talk to each other in the evening, with Enid finally confessing to him that she actually thinks it's a bit of a shame that it didn't happen. The reader just looks at her in amazement while she says with a wink that she feels more for him. He can only grin and says me too when she already pounces on him and wants to catch up on things that didn't happen.
In the Pale Moonlight
Enid Sinclair X Male Werewolf
Tumblr media
It was all a blur at the beginning, the sudden racing of your heartbeat. The heavy breathing you started to do, you couldn’t control this primal urge overcoming you suddenly. Your head began to bound with the sound of your own blood rushing from your heart, your eyes dart upward to the full moon. In that instance you immediately recognized What was transpiring. You attempted to stand up to reach the door, only for your feet to expand out of your favorite pear of slippers. Your body hair growing and in places no body hair should exist. Your only salvation was the wolfing chamber, specifically made for situations like this.
Leaning against the wall, you attempt to make it to the door of your dormitory to get outside, it you could only make a few steps before collapsing, and your mind slowly going blank, the howl of the night was the last thing you could make out before it was over. You had no idea how much time passed before you slowly began to regain control, feeling the dirt in your claws, on your feet.
Finally regaining normal vision you watch your hairy arm slowly revert back, the ill moonlight shining on the forest, slowly you sit up, eventually looking at your surroundings to figure out just where you’re at, your eyes do catch something as well, a hand. Since the moonlight had its own reflection and light, the shadows casted by the darkness hid much but you leaned in to get a closer look, until you were met face to face with a girl. You both keep back with a small scream. She looks down quickly, realizing she’s naked and covers her body. You advert yourself eyes.
“Shit! Im so sorry!” You say, trying not to let the embarrassment stop you from doing the right thing, you felt the cool wind against your back, your spine, and also realize you’re naked. You back into the shadows of a few trees to hide whatever shred of dignity and manhood you had.
“I’m really sorry about that..” you mutter. The girl, also shrouded by a few trees tries to be a bit more pleasant.
“I-it’s fine, I didn’t know I’d wolf out..” she said. When you looked more at her face you recognized the uniqueness of her hair, and the beauty of those teal green eyes, you couldn’t mistake her anywhere else.
“Enid?” You asks, and she slowly nods.
“Yeah, and you’re (Y/n).” She said, Enid was the social butterfly, if you could call her a butterfly of Nevermore so she’s the need to know kind of type of girl. You two stood a bit away from each other, trying not to let hormones and curiosity take over.
“So, first time wolfing out?” You ask, immediately realizing it’s a dumb question, you attempt to take it back but she answers.
“It is.” She says..
“Oh…” you murmur, you looked up to see the moons position and your tracking training kicks in.
“It’s gonna be daylight soon, we should probably get back to our dorms.”
“Yeah..” Enid agrees and you both move out of the moonlight but quickly back in, it was an awkward few tries before you decide to cut it short. “You should just go first.” You say.
“Okay, you aren’t gonna peek or anything will you?”
“Of course not, promise.” You turn around to face a tree and Enid hesitates for a moment, before leaving. You hear the rustling leaves and you think for a second, you decide this might be your only chance and you spoke up.
“Hey, Enid?” You say, she stopped and turned to see you were still staring at the tree.
“Congrats on, wolfing out.” You say, while it was embarrassing to be naked in the forest with a boy you barely knew, his words of encouragement meant more than she expected. She couldn’t help but smile at this.
“Thanks.” She, in a much happier mood, headed back to her dorm before the sun could expose anything, you quickly made haste after she made a good distance away from you.
The sunlight rose on the next day, and you were trying to remember most of your wolfing out. Sitting in class you were staring off into space, trying to remember most of it, it was a haze for the most of it, but you could remember that it was mostly running, howling and, fighting? Mostly just horsing around with Enid. Thankfully you didn’t harm anyone or her. Hopefully this was something you could just shove into the back of your mind and forget, but you couldn’t and you had to confirm your theory. Late In the evening you approached Enids form room and with caution, knocked. Knowing there’s a possibility you could run into her roommate, Wednesday was a nightmare.
“Hey.. uh, Enid? It’s (Y/n).” You say, “Can.. We talk?” You ask. Your hear it unlock and out comes Enid, more casual wear and still had the pink dye in her hair.
“Cmon.” She says and you enters, noticing the split of color and lack of on the other side of the room, definitely Wednesdays side, best for avoid it, might be cursed or something. You take a moment to sit on Enids bed as she approaches.
“There’s, something I’ve been meaning to ask you, I thought a lot about last night, I’m glad I didn’t hurt you or anyone. Do you remember last night?” You ask, she looks more bubbly than before.
“Yeah, it was.. Rough. Not like that kind of rough just, fun.. I really enjoyed it actually. I’ve never wolfed out before and I had someone to wolf out with.” Enid stated, and she looked you dead in the eyes and with the most obvious hint, said “It’s a real shame we couldn’t do anything else~” she winks and a sudden hotness rushes over your face. You blink a few times and put on a smile.
“Well, feelings mutual.” You say, and she takes the opportunity to close in. Sitting on your lap, you feel her palms land softly on your shoulder and her lips close in, reciprocating her feelings, your arms coyly wrap around her lower back and waist and feel her soft breath against your lips. Her eyes closed and you shut yours to feel her lips embrace yours, her soft giggling in your ear hummed. Lying on her bed, it was the perfect time for you two to catch up on the events that could have happened last night

Interspecies Adventures While Sick
“Hi again, Smooth Vibrations,” I rasped, trying not to cough. “I’ve got a pickup for Zhee.”
Running errands with a cold was never fun, but at least this one was quick. And I was even sure that I’d met this vendor before. Waterwills really do all look the same to human eyes, since the size and color of their column-of-jello bodies was liable to change depending on health, but this one was wearing a nametag. I say wearing, but really she had it floating near the front. I was glad for that. There was no chance I’d pick up the frequencies they identify each other by otherwise.
“Welcome back!” said Smooth Vibrations brightly. Someday I’d figure out how they produced sounds, but it had never felt polite to ask. “We haven’t seen your ship in a while. Is Zhee ill?”
I shook my congested head. “He’s fine; I’m sick. He’s just busy and asked me to grab his order on my way to go rest.” I sniffed, but only one nostril was working.
“Sounds like a big favor,” the Waterwill said as she extended an arm tendril to open a drawer.
“Eh, not too bad,” I told her. “It’s a minor sickness. I probably caught it from somebody on the last station a few days ago; I don't think anyone on my ship can even get human diseases.”
“That’s convenient,” Smooth Vibrations said. “If—”
My explosive sneeze interrupted her. I’d turned away and aimed into the crook of my arm, but it was a loud one. Also unpleasantly messy. I’d have to wash this shirt.
“Excuse me,” I said, wiping my nose on the sleeve. “Ugh.”
When I looked back at her, I found the Waterwill frozen in place, her surface covered in alarmed-looking spikes. Even the vague shapes floating about her interior had stilled. Before I could ask if she was okay, she exclaimed, “What was that?”
“A sneeze?” I said. “Have you not seen that before?”
“That’s normal?” she demanded. The spikes began flattening out.
“For sick humans, yes,” I said, digging in a pocket for a tissue. “Probably other species too. Something was irritating my breathing passages, and that’s a way to get it out. Automatically. I don’t have much control over it.” I glanced at my befouled sleeve. “More’s the pity.”
She started to say something else as I blew my nose, then she stopped. The spikes didn’t reappear, but I got the impression that she was shocked in a different way. I couldn’t blame her. Those snotty noises were gross even to me. One tissue was barely enough.
“What did you say?” she asked when I was done.
I re-wound my memory. “More’s the pity?” I asked.
“After that!” she said, sounding scandalized.
“I didn’t say anything. I just blew my nose.”
“Are you sure?” she pressed. “Because that sounded an awful lot like—” She produced a snotty sound of her own, which really did sound similar.
“Wow, is that your language? I swear I didn’t do it on purpose!” This was fascinating. “What did I say?”
Smooth Vibrations paused before saying, “May all your organs clump together.”
“No, I definitely didn’t mean to say that!” I assured her, laughing a bit. “I’m so sorry.”
“Apology accepted,” she said primly, going back to the drawer. “Let’s get you that order so you can go back to your ship and rest.”
“Yes please,” I said, looking down at the tissue and wondering what to do with it. Asking to throw it in her trash can just didn’t seem polite. I ended up crumpling it and shoving it in a pocket; I’d wash all my clothes later anyway. Bluh. I hate being sick.
“Here it is,” Smooth Vibrations announced, placing a flat case on the counter. “Do you want a bag?”
“Sure,” I said, trying to make out the brightly-colored text. “Your bags are really neat.”
Smooth Vibrations sounded proud as she said, “That’s Waterwill efficiency for you!” She moved the case into a clear bag that was made out of a thin layer of their patented solid-water technology. It didn’t get anything wet, and it would evaporate in a day. So clever. “I hope you get your rest, and Zhee enjoys his music. The Loud Ones are a fine band.”
“I don’t think I’ve heard their stuff, but the name sounds familiar,” I said as I picked up the bag. It felt smooth and cool against my fingers.
“Their biggest song is ‘What The Hell Is A Shuwog?’” she told me.
“Ohh, I remember that one!” I flashed back to my first day with this crew, and Paint’s lively rendition of the song about Mesmer body parts. Zhee had been particularly grumpy about it, insisting that the song was a dishonor to his glorious blade-arms. But now he was buying the album? I laughed, then had to cough. “This is why he wanted me to pick it up for him, instead of waiting for Paint to do her supply run!” I exclaimed. “She’d never let him live it down that he actually likes that song!”
Smooth Vibrations burbled in amusement. “Sounds like you’ve got some blackmail material if he ever sends you out while you’re sick again.” She waved me away with three arm tendrils. “Go rest!”
“I will!” I told her. “Thanks!” With another sniffle that was hopefully not a different rude word, I hurried back to my ship and a much-needed nap.

Achilles/Patroclus/Menelaus | PWP | Fluff | Humor | 9k
Ten years after college, Patroclus and Achilles run into Menelaus, freshly dumped by Helen. They have some interesting suggestions for helping him get over his heartbreak.
Welcome to another case of mine and @baejax-the-great's slightly unhinged DM conversations somehow making it into fic form. This is a sequel to Baejax's Sweet Victory. Please enjoy <3
Read on AO3!
The Menelaus thing had always bothered Achilles, even if he pretended like he was completely over it. Ten years later, five of those years with zero contact with Menelaus whatsoever, yet still whenever his name gets mentioned, which isn’t all that often, Achilles will become keenly interested in the conversation, like a dog who just heard the word “treat.”
He wants to know all the details. He wants to pretend like he doesn’t, but if no one asks the questions he has, he’ll carefully prevent the conversation from steering to something vaguely more relevant to their lives, asking the questions himself as if they’d just popped into his head and like he didn’t have fifteen follow-up questions on the tip of his tongue.
Patroclus doesn’t care—not about Achilles’ minor obsession with Menelaus, nor about Menelaus himself. He’d barely been friends with the man when he blew that up by drunkenly making out with him at a party and then very soberly making out with Achilles in front of him in a locked stairwell three days later. Whatever friendliness existed between them could not survive that, which was fine. Patroclus doesn’t have to be liked by everyone, probably.
The whole event should have been forgotten after a year, maybe two. Definitely after Menelaus graduated. Definitely after Achilles and Patroclus graduated and moved away and met new people. The resentment, the insecurity, the jealousy, all of that was reasonable for a year or two. But Achilles held on to… something. Not quite jealousy, not not-jealousy, but something. Menelaus was the only person Patroclus had ever kissed other than Achilles, until recent years anyway, and Achilles just couldn’t seem to forget that. All it took was a glance at someone with ginger hair, and Achilles was poking at the whole thing again with poorly feigned nonchalance.
The weird thing, the thing that Patroclus never mentioned to Achilles, is that despite the non-friendship between the three of them, it was possible Menelaus had kept an interest in them, too. He came back to campus a few times after graduation to watch some soccer games, and he continued avoiding the hell out of them which was fair enough, but then Automedon told him once that when Patroclus didn’t show up for a game because he was sick, Menelaus had asked around if the two of them had finally broken up.
“Finally.” That was a very specific way to phrase it.
But that was years ago. Sure, Ajax mentioned that Menelaus had asked about them the last time he saw him, but that’s just old college friends catching up. Probably. Ajax didn’t say the exact words Menelaus used to ask about them, but asking about old friends is normal. It’s been ten years. There just really wasn’t any reason for hard feelings over a couple of very ill-advised make-out sessions from a decade ago.
So, with that history, and with Achilles’ weirdness about Menelaus in mind, when Patroclus spots Menelaus scrolling on his phone and drinking alone at his own table at the bar closest to their house, a place he’s never seen him before and where Achilles has not yet arrived, Patroclus is intent on ignoring him and ambushing Achilles at the door and taking him elsewhere before he gets too weird about it. He thinks Menelaus would prefer that outcome.
He winds up being wrong about that.
On noticing Patroclus, Menelaus stands up with a smile on his face. His face is already a little flushed from the drink he’s having and the heat of the bar, and it’s framed by his wild ginger mane, just as Patroclus remembers it. His eyes are warm and bright like they always used to be, but that is where the similarities with his younger self end. The years they’ve spent apart have definitely been kind to Menelaus. He seems taller, his shoulders stronger and broader, the fabric of the shirt he’s wearing straining slightly against the muscles of his chest and his arms as he waves Patroclus over. His beard is thicker as well, and expertly groomed, and it’s simply unfair how good it looks on him.
“Pat!” he calls out, gestures as big and friendly as ever, almost knocking over a waitress in his enthusiasm. “Come, join me.”
Patroclus is just not the kind of person who knows how to get out of invitations like this. He knows that there are people who know how to say “No thank you, I’m busy, et cetera et cetera,” but he comes up blank. He hates to disappoint people.
He joins Menelaus at his table.
“I was waiting for my brother,” Menelaus says, “But he canceled last minute. Have a drink with me so I didn’t waste the trip.” Menelaus waves over a waitress as he talks. He’s drinking sangria, which, annoyingly, Patroclus really likes, and he orders a pitcher of it for them.
“Achilles is meant to be joining me,” Patroclus says, both a warning and an apology.
“The more the merrier,” Menelaus replies with a smile that seems a bit fragile. Maybe he needs the company, even if it’s two people he hated in college.
“It’s been a long time,” Patroclus says. “I thought you were off in LA living the fancy life? What brings you here?”
Everyone heard about their former teammate marrying one of the most famous models in the world. It sparked envy, hope for invitations to a higher class of party, and in Achilles, a small burst of insanity as he obsessed over whether Helen was prettier than he was—a nonsense question—and then whether Patroclus was prettier than Helen, another nonsense question but one with an obvious answer of no, and then whether Menelaus was prettier than Achilles in that he had somehow seduced both Patroclus and the most beautiful woman in the world, and Patroclus really stopped listening at that point.
“I’m sure you could seduce Helen if you wanted,” he’d said sort of absently. “Menelaus, too, probably.”
In hindsight, he probably should have paid more attention to that conversation.
“Change of scenery,” Menelaus replies, his smile weakening by the moment. The pitcher arrives, and Menelaus pours a glass for Patroclus before topping up his own. “Cheers,” he says, holding up his glass.
Patroclus hates what he does next, because he does not care, he does not want to care, he does not want to know, but he glances at Menelaus’s hand and sees that there is no wedding ring adorning it.
Doesn’t mean anything. Lots of people sitting alone in a bar in a city they don’t live in exuding an obviously fragile sense of cheer don’t wear wedding rings for one reason or another. Helen’s probably off working and Menelaus got bored and surprised his brother and now is here, making boring small talk with Patroclus about his job. Probably.
He does manage to kill the impulse to check his phone for the time. Achilles is late, but that could be a good thing. Patroclus can probably still get out of this. He can finish his one drink, thank Menelaus for it, and tell Achilles about this at home, where he can be weird and intense about it in private.
Except that Menelaus finishes his drink first, having peppered Patroclus with supremely boring questions regarding his residency, and the moment the glass is empty, his face falls entirely, his mask of forced jolliness cracking down the middle. His new expression of being near the brink of tears fits Menelaus’s face so comfortably that Patroclus wonders how he faked a smile in the first place.
“She left me,” he says, and Patroclus couldn’t possibly leave him alone in this condition, so he pours him another drink and nods his head sympathetically. “Ran off with some foreign guy. Didn’t tell me why. I can’t even serve her with divorce papers because I don’t know where she’s gone.”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Patroclus replies. “Truly.”
And he is. Despite their history, Menelaus had always been very nice to Patroclus, comforting him during his brief breakup with Achilles. This is why, when Achilles walks in very late for their meet up, his sleek black coat dusted with snow and golden hair gorgeously disheveled and windswept, Patroclus has a hand rubbing Menelaus’s back as he pours his broken heart out, their pitcher of sangria mostly empty.
A sense of dread, a little dampened and delayed by the wine and triple sec, comes over Patroclus as Achilles walks over to them, but Achilles smiles like he is thrilled to find Patroclus half-drunk with the man Achilles has imagined some rivalry with. He sits himself down on the other side of Menelaus, taking off his coat with a graceful, fluid motion and tossing it carelessly over the back of a chair.
“What an incredible surprise,” Achilles says.
“Oh,” Menelaus sniffs, only now noticing him. “The two of you had plans. I should let you go.”
“Don’t be silly,” Achilles replies, waving the empty pitcher at the waitress. “I would love to have a drink with an old friend. How many have you had? I’ll catch up.”

you're telling me he gets THREE boyfriends???
words: 4.6k
summary: cole's dad assumes the ninja are dating, which - as far as cole is concerned - is ridiculous. of course, it sends him on a bit of a feelings spiral, and maybe he does in fact have a few crushes he has to deal with.
some polyninja goofs! set vaguely in s2 idk when exactly but uhh theyre living on the bounty and lloyd isnt aged up yet thats all thats important. also im trying out posting full fics on here for the first time! this is also on my ao3 ill link it in the rbs
enjoy!
"So, how are the boys?"
"Ugh, Dad." Cole rolls his eyes. Every time he visits, his dad ends up trying to get him to talk about the other ninja, and he doesn't understand it. "They're fine, same as always. Busy training, probably."
"Shame they never come to visit," Lou comments, sipping his tea. "I really would love to get to know them better."
Cole squints dubiously at his father, who seems to be trying to appear nonchalant. "...Why?"
"Well, why wouldn't I? If my son suddenly came home with one boyfriend I'd like to get to know him, let alone three!"
What.
Cole stares at Lou. He puts his tea cup down and furrows his brow as he tries to process. Dad thinks- okay. Dad thinks the ninja are his… boyfriends? The ninja. All of them. Boyfriends?
"We're not dating, dad," he says, after a solid few seconds of confused silence. Lou tilts his head.
"You're not?" he asks. "None of you?"
"No, none of us!"
Why would he even think that? Do they act like boyfriends? Dad didn't even know he was gay until a few weeks ago. Why would he just assume Cole’s friends were dating him? Or each other, for that matter?
"Well," says Lou, frowning. "I must have misread. Sorry, son."
"That's okay, dad," says Cole. His head is spinning, though. Misread what? Normal, friendly, platonic interactions between four close buddies? How could you possibly misread that? "What, uh- why would you… what made you think that?"
Lou hums, taking another sip of his tea as he thinks about it. Cole finds himself leaning forward in anticipation, and immediately feels weird about it. Why is he excited to know? That's weird. Stop it, Cole.
"You were the happiest I've ever seen you," Lou finally says, and Cole feels his stomach flip. "When you were fighting, yes, but even more so when you were just with them. The way you looked at them, I… well, it reminded me of myself when I first fell in love."
Cole really, truly, has no idea how to feel about that. He stares down into his lap. This isn't exactly a conversation he'd love to be having with the father he's fairly estranged from, anyway. Maybe once they were closer he'd be willing to talk about his nonexistent love life, but apparently it's happening now, because apparently he looks at the other ninja like he's in love with them, which is- well, it's a lot to unpack.
"Why so interested?" Lou asks teasingly, after Cole hasn't said anything for a few minutes. Cole’s stomach flips again.
"I'm not!" he defends, though he can't really deny that he is. When he thinks about it his heart keeps doing these little flutters. Maybe he just has a heart condition. That's probably more likely. A rare heart condition that only shows symptoms when he thinks about the idea of dating his fellow ninja. The idea of boyfriends. Having boyfriends. Dating them. Maybe even kissing them! He-
Wow, that heart condition sure is a doozy.
"Well, I'm not going to sit around and tell you how it looks," says Lou. "I think you might need to work out how you actually feel."
"Unhelpful, dad," Cole grumbles. His father laughs, and picks his tea back up.
"If you say you're not dating, I believe you. But maybe I wasn't misreading your expressions?" He raises his eyebrows and sips his tea meaningfully. Cole can feel his face going hot.
"Yeah, yeah," he mutters. "I'm changing the subject now. How's the weather been lately?"
Later, on the Bounty, Cole can’t stop thinking about it. What the fuck did his dad mean about him and the other ninja? He spends most of the day after he gets home stewing about it, brooding in various spots aboard the ship and generally overthinking. It doesn't make him feel any better in the slightest.
Eventually the others notice, because of course they do, because they share a space of a couple hundred square feet at best. Kai corners him on the deck first.
“Hey, man,” he says, slapping Cole on the back and joining him in peering over the edge of the boat. “You doin’ okay?”
Kai’s picked up a habit of checking in on the others the moment they seem even a little off, and he seems scarily attuned to when they’re not feeling great. It makes Cole smile. He’s a good guy. Much more sensitive and caring than his cocky outward self would have you believe, and Cole’s lucky to get to see it. Lucky to get to see his face, too, cause he’s sure easy on the eyes. And-
Cole’s cheeks go hot. Oh, boy.
“All good!” he replies, maybe a little too squeakily. Kai narrows his eyes suspiciously. His stunning, deep brown eyes. Cole scolds himself mentally. Where is this coming from?
“You went to visit your dad today, right?” asks Kai, and Cole nods. “That go okay?”
“Been worse. We, uh, talked a lot."
“Hey, that’s a start.” Kai smiles lopsidedly and reaches out, covering Cole’s hand with his. His palm is warm and comforting. Cole smiles back. “Wanna come play some games with the guys? We got some time.”
“We should probably be training,” Cole says, raising one eyebrow, but it’s more of a tease than an actual protest. He’d much rather play. If nothing else, it's fun to watch Jay rage when he's losing.
“Eh, what Wu doesn’t know won’t hurt him. C’mon.”
Cole allows himself to be led the relatively short distance from the deck into their room, where Jay and Zane are already battling it out.
“Ah, hello, Cole,” says Zane, pausing the game and turning to smile up at Cole with that sweet, awkward smile he always has. “Are you alright?”
“I’m peachy, snowflake,” Cole replies, grinning as he sits down between them. Zane tilts his head in apparent confusion. “I’m good. No worries.”
“Good,” says Zane. Kai sits down on Zane’s other side and picks up a spare controller, passing Cole the fourth. Jay nudges him.
“Ready to get your ass kicked?” he asks, smirking, and Cole just smirks back.
“I’d be careful who you threaten, motormouth.”
“Ooh, fighting talk!” exclaims Kai. “C’mon, I wanna get into it already!”
Zane sets up a fresh game. Cole sits there, idly playing with the buttons as he waits, and smiles. He’s got the best friends.
It doesn’t entirely clear his mind, but digitally brawling with the other ninja certainly makes him feel a bit better, right up until Wu finds them and scolds them for shirking their duties. He finds himself in the kitchen with Zane, washing dishes as Zane starts to get dinner ready.
“Do not laugh, please,” Zane says shyly. Cole blinks at him, and then suddenly realises that Zane is bashfully tying his pink apron around his waist. He feels guilty immediately.
“I won’t,” he promises. “Sorry for laughing at you for it before.”
“That’s okay. I understand it is a little silly. It’s pink, after all.”
“No, it- it still sucked for us to laugh. You don’t look silly. You, uh- pink suits you.”
It’s nowhere near a lie. Zane looks great in pink. He looks great in anything, honestly. Most of all, he looks great wearing the pleased smile that crosses his face at that. It’s infectious - Cole finds himself smiling too, distracted and scrubbing the same spot on a bowl over and over. He snaps his attention back to the dishes. FSM, what is with him? His dad’s comments must have got in his head. He doesn’t remember ever noticing the others’ appearances this much before, nor feeling this fluttery when he thinks about them. But then again, didn’t he? Weren’t they always this handsome, now that he thinks about it? Maybe the butterflies are new, but they don’t feel out of place, exactly. When he casts his mind back, maybe he does remember feeling a little fluttery whenever Kai puts his hand on his, or Jay poorly trash-talks him, or Zane makes extra dumplings because he knows they’re Cole’s favourite. He stares into the soapy water, suddenly unsure of himself.
“Cole? Are you alright?” Zane asks, placing a cold hand on Cole’s arm and pulling him out of his thoughts. Cole nods.
“Yep,” he says, and it’s not a lie. He’s just… confused, is all. There’s no way his dad was right, right? Not about them dating, of course, but about his, uh… feelings. Wouldn’t that be embarrassing? His dad, who he barely sees, picking up on Cole having a- well, multiple crushes before it even crossed Cole’s mind. “Sorry, Zane. Just thinkin’.”
“No need to apologise,” says Zane. “And, um. Thank you for saying pink suits me. I rather like it.”
He smiles, and then makes a beeline for the stove to start cooking. Cole watches him move perfectly around the kitchen, each movement graceful and well-oiled. The water's long gone cold by the time he actually resumes doing the dishes.
Dinner is perfect, as it always is when it's Zane's night to cook. Cole devours his own helping and then a fair bit of Jay's, when he isn't looking. Lloyd watches him sneak food off Jay's plate from across the table, wide-eyed, and then utterly fails to do the same to Nya, who notices immediately.
After the meal, Jay and Cole end up on the deck together, trying to make the most of the time before bed. The sun's gone down, leaving them chugging along through dusky indigo skies, a few stars twinkling above them.
"Don't think I didn't notice you stealing my food all of dinner, mister," Jay says, and Cole grins, embarrassed. Busted.
"Well, why didn't you stop me then?"
Jay shrugs. "I figured it would mean that you owe me! Besides, I know you love Zane’s cooking."
Cole knows for a fact that Jay also loves Zane's cooking. They all do. He doesn't comment on that, though, just raises an eyebrow instead. "Oh yeah?"
"Yep!"
He doesn't elaborate. Cole chooses to assume he'll be doing Jay's chores tomorrow. He rolls his eyes, and leans over the side of the boat. The moon is so bright tonight, illuminating everything in a pale glow. He chances a glance at Jay out of the corner of his eye, and sure enough; beautiful. Damnit. Why couldn't he have less handsome friends? And kind, too, and funny. And caring. And-
Jay catches him looking and scrunches up his nose, sticking his tongue out. Cole feels his heart skip a beat.
God damnit.
He has three whole stupid crushes, doesn't he?
And that means his stupid dad was right, too.
Cole stares down at the distant desert below them, slowly passing by. This is stupid. Feelings are stupid. They're his friends - his only friends, not that he really likes to admit it. Well- he still has Wu and Nya and Lloyd, but still. They're his team, for another thing. How's he going to fight effectively alongside them when all of a sudden he gets butterflies looking in their eyes for too long?
Jay pokes him. "Whatcha thinkin' about?"
"Just- stuff," says Cole vaguely.
"Ooh, mystery man, huh? Bet I can guess what you're thinking about."
"Jay, I-"
"Cake? Video games? The fact that it's your turn to mop the deck this week? Dragons?"
Cole should've known that vagueness would get him nowhere with Jay. Annoying, adorable little shit. Instead he just sighs and nods. "Yeah, uh, all of the above."
"Ha! You're so predictable, Cole."
I guess I am, Cole thinks, leaning on his hand and watching Jay's smug face turn to look back out at the clouds. He's only thinking a little bit about kissing him, which he's going to count as a win. He continues to think about it until they go to bed for the night, but it’s only a little bit, so. He’s doing well.
The next evening, Cole finally finds himself alone on the deck of the Bounty, having spent all day in the company of at least one of the other ninja, all of whom are suddenly the most attractive guys in Ninjago and he might be going a little bit crazy. Getting some time alone is rare under normal circumstances, but while dealing with this newest revelation it's nothing short of a godsend.
He begins pacing up and down the deck, debating just what he's supposed to do now. Right. So maybe, just maybe, he has three new crushes. Or, more like, he has three old crushes that he's only just noticed and is kind of kicking himself about in retrospect.
He has a few options, Cole supposes.
One, he tells them all how he feels. The idea of this one makes his stomach tie itself into twelve different knots and then throw itself off the side of the ship, so he's not really sure it's ideal. But then again, if it went well… he doesn't dare think about it. The odds of it going the way he'd like it to are so tiny that he doesn't even bother properly entertaining the idea. This option isn't really an option.
Two, he picks one of them to confess to and buries the other two crushes down deep and doesn't think about them ever. This one is more plausible, even if the idea of choosing between them seems impossible. Any time he thinks he's settled on one of them, one of the others will float into his mind and his heart will do the flutter again and he'll be back at square one. Besides, he doesn't even know if any of them would like him back. This option isn't ideal, but it's there.
Three, he buries all of them down deep and pretends they don't exist. This one, as far as Cole can see, has no downsides. Nothing has to change, no one has to get rejected or ruin any friendships or teamwork, and he can go on having fun with his best friends and never think about kissing them at all. Ever. It's the perfect plan.
Of course, perfect plans often have a little snag or two, which Cole discovers as soon as he marches proudly back into their living quarters and is met with three stupidly handsome and loveable faces.
For the next few days, Cole engages in what can only be described as the most miserable game of tag he’s ever played, in which he’s constantly running from his own gay thoughts attempting to catch him. Every time he sees the other ninja, his heart utterly betrays him by trying to thump itself out of his chest, and his brain betrays him even more by refusing to stop imagining them kissing him, or holding his hand, or even cuddling. Luckily, it doesn’t interfere with their ninja work too much, because Cole is a professional, and their well-oiled team is second nature at this point. At home, though? Well, those two days of performing arts school he attended are really putting the work in.
It doesn’t help that recently the ninja have become more affectionate than ever, constantly checking in on him and asking if he wants to hang out, and there’s only so many times he can turn them down without coming off rude or suspicious. He’s been hanging out with little Lloyd a lot instead. To be fair to the kid, he’s a lot of fun to hang out with, actually. Plus, as a bonus, the ninja don’t seem to be quite as affectionate when Lloyd, Nya or Wu are around, which Cole is putting down to them not wanting to exclude anyone from their little best friend group.
He’s hanging out by himself in the sleeping quarters, reading a book that Zane’s been trying to get him to read and eating a sandwich, when Nya pops her head round the door and says; “Hey!”
He glances over, brushes some crumbs off his chest, and sits up, putting the book down. “Hey.”
“What’re you doing in here? Everyone's up on the deck, training.”
She steps into the room and walks over to his bunk, sitting down next to him. Cole shrugs.
“I was tired?” he tries, and she laughs.
“Nice try. Wu will never let you get away with that one. Ninja never quit!” she says, doing a scarily accurate impression of Master Wu. Cole snorts, and then looks at his hands. It’s not that he doesn’t want to train. It’s more that Kai had bumped into him earlier and for some ungodly reason had reached out to brush a lock of Cole’s hair behind his ear, and Cole’s now worried that if he looks Kai in the eyes he might actually explode.
He’s not gonna say that. He just sort of shrugs instead.
Nya pokes his cheek. “What’s going on with you?” she asks, raising one eyebrow. Cole looks at her.
“What do you mean?”
She shrugs. “You’re acting weird lately. Around the guys mostly. You feeling okay?”
Damn. Cole cringes slightly. He’s probably being very obvious, huh? He opens his mouth, fully intending to make up some excuse, even if he has no idea what would sound plausible, but what actually comes out is; “I think I’m in love with all three of the other guys because my dad thought we were all dating and it made me realise I really like them all and I have no idea what to do about it and I was trying to ignore it but that’s really hard and I don’t wanna ruin the team or our friendships or anything and it sucks.”
Nya stares at him.
“And also I’m gay,” he adds, belatedly realising he's never actually officially come out. He’s pretty sure they all know, but still. Worth adding.
She takes a second, looking almost confused, and then laughs. “Okay,” she says. “Lots of information there, Cole.”
“Sorry,” he mumbles, smiling a bit himself. Her smile is infectious. She sighs, and then pats him on the shoulder.
“First of all, congrats on the coming out. I mean, I did already know, so. Y’know. Still congrats!”
“Thank you…?”
"Secondly, that's really cute. You should tell them!"
Cole stares at her. "Nya. You gotta be kidding me."
"I'm not! What's the worst that could happen?" She’s grinning at him, with a sparkle in her eye like she knows something he doesn’t, but he just frowns.
"Uh, I don't know. Everything? Breaking up the team for no good reason? Losing my only friends?"
"Pssh, that's nothing." She sounds cheery, but Cole's not smiling, so she sighs and pats his shoulder. "Right. Sorry. Unhelpful. But look, I really do think you should tell them. They're worried about you, y'know."
Cole blinks. "They are?"
"Yeah, of course. If nothing else, telling them will get you closure, right? Your friendship is stronger than you think, and they care about you, so even if they don't like like you back, is that really the end of the world?"
Huh. Cole looks down at his hands. "I guess not," he admits, frowning. It doesn't feel like it should be that easy. Admittedly, the idea of rejection does make him want to crawl into a cupboard forever, but Nya has a point. She grins again, toothily.
"I'm always right," she says, smug. Cole rolls his eyes and leans into her. She wraps an arm around him. "Oh, and I'm rooting for you, champ. I guarantee it’ll go better than you think."
“Why are you so sure?” Cole grumbles, and she opens her mouth, and then closes it again, shrugging.
“Just am!” she says, slightly sing-song, and he groans. Why is everybody he knows so smug?
"Hey," says Cole, and only Zane looks up. Kai and Jay are too busy intently focusing on the game they're playing, which, honestly? That's fine. Cole’s feeling pretty nervous, so the less eyes on him right now the better. "I need to talk to you guys."
"What's up, dude?" asks Kai, narrowing his eyes at the TV, and then groaning. "Oh, damnit, Jay!"
"Ha! Get good, loser!"
"Are you guys done?" Cole asks, feeling endeared and irritated at the same time. God, why'd it have to be these idiots? They pause the game, finally, and turn around to face him, nodding. "Okay."
"Are you alright, Cole?" asks Zane, looking worried.
“Yeah, I just- I have to tell you all something.”
“We’re all ears, bro,” says Kai, grinning up at him, and Cole’s heart flutters embarrassingly. Oh god. This is gonna suck. He takes a deep breath.
"I like you guys," says Cole. "Like, like like you. All of you."
There's silence. Cole resists the urge to squeeze his eyes shut so he can't see them all looking at him. This is terrible. His heart is pounding.
"...I thought we were all already dating?" Zane says, sounding genuinely bewildered.
“Yeah, I kinda- are we not?” asks Jay, putting down his game controller. Kai nods in agreement, frowning at Cole.
What.
Cole stares at them all. He’s desperately trying to see in their eyes if this is some weird prank, or joke, but they all look utterly baffled at the idea that they’re not all dating him. They all think they’re dating him? And each other? All of them?
This might be the weirdest turn of events in Cole’s life, and he once had an old man on top of a mountain ask him to become a ninja to help save Ninjago from evil.
“Wh- we are?” he says desperately, holding out his hands in confusion. The others make eye contact with each other and then look back at him, nodding. Cole’s head is spinning. “For how long?”
Jay shrugs. “I dunno, a couple of weeks?”
A couple of weeks? He’s saying that Cole could have been kissing all three of them for weeks? He must look shaken, because Kai holds out a hand comfortingly.
“How did I not know?” he asks. They look at each other again.
“I do not know,” says Zane.
“We just sort of assumed you wanted to take things slow?” explains Kai. “And we didn’t wanna push you or anything, y’know?”
Cole really does not know what to do now. He goes and sits on the floor between them all, and then suddenly has a realisation. “My dad was right,” he groans, dropping his head into his hands in shame. This is awful. Not only was his stupid dad right about his stupid feelings, he was right about them dating, apparently. And apparently, everybody was aware of this except for Cole!
Wait. “Wait,” he says. “Does Nya think we’re dating too?”
“Uh, yeah, I’m gonna tell my sister, dude,” says Kai, and Cole groans again. Great. No wonder she’d seemed so sure of herself when he asked for her advice. He feels a hand pat his arm slightly awkwardly.
“Are you alright?” asks Zane, sounding concerned, and Cole nods into his hands. It’s not quite settled in yet, given that this was the exact opposite of the outcome he was expecting and all. It might be starting to, though, given the way his stomach is starting to fizz with excitement.
“So,” he says, lifting his head out of his hands. They’re all looking at him with eyes that are far too soft and gentle and beautiful. “You’re telling me you all want to date me?”
“Well, I thought we all were for several weeks, so I’d say yes,” says Jay, and Cole partially considers dropping his head back into his hands. He puts them down on his lap instead.
“What now?” he asks. He’s pretty sure he’s just mightily embarrassed himself, so he’s half expecting one of them to go well, actually, we don’t really like you that much anymore, Cole, sorry! Instead, Kai starts grinning and adjusts himself so he’s on one knee.
“Well,” he says, making eye contact with each of them. “Would all three of you do me the honour of being my boyfriends? Officially, this time.”
Cole might be dying. His heart rate would certainly suggest that he is. Beside him, Zane giggles, and Jay groans and rolls his eyes.
“You’re so annoying,” he complains, and then leans forward and kisses Kai’s cheek.
“I would be honoured,” Zane says, seriously, and leans in to kiss Kai’s other cheek. Kai raises his eyebrows at Cole, the cocky grin melting into something softer as he looks at him.
“If you’d rather talk about it first-” he begins to say, before Cole gets his courage up and all but jumps forward to plant a kiss directly on Kai’s lips. They’re soft, and warm, and he can feel Kai smiling against his lips. His heart hammers furiously against the inside of his ribs as he pulls back and grins awkwardly.
“Yeah,” he says, slightly embarrassed by the way Kai is smiling at him. Jay makes a noise.
“My turn!” he says, and pulls Cole into a kiss as well, their noses squishing uncomfortably against each other and teeth clacking slightly. He pulls away, slightly dazed, and Jay all but sparkles at him with the joy in his grin. Zane clears his throat politely.
“May I?” he asks, and Cole nods, his head spinning too much to answer properly. Zane leans in and kisses him, much gentler than Jay, and then pulls back after a moment and smiles. Cole’s tempted to pinch himself, just to make sure this isn’t some big self-indulgent dream. His heart is calming down, convinced that all is well.
“Glad we got that sorted!” chirps Jay, picking his game controller back up. “Cole, do you wanna join the game next round?”
Cole has to laugh. He feels a bit ridiculous. Knowing that he could’ve been happily with them all for weeks rather than tearing himself up inside trying to escape his crushes stings a bit, but at least he got this outcome instead of something worse. Honestly, this is the best possible outcome he could have hoped for.
“Yeah, okay,” he says, and grabs the spare controller.
Cole’s dad opens the door not ten seconds after he rings the bell, which suggests he’d been waiting by the door for Cole to show up, which is either quite sweet or a bit weird, he can’t decide.
“Cole!” he says, opening it, and then his eyes widen. “Oh!”
Cole grins, gesturing to the other three ninja, who have promised to be on their best behaviour and are dressed in their nicest outfits. “Surprise?” he says, and they beam at his dad. Lou looks utterly thrilled, clapping his hands together and grinning.
“Oh, this is wonderful! Cole never brings friends home,” he says, and Cole’s face goes a bit hot. He looks around at the other ninja, who smile at him encouragingly.
“It’s actually, uh. Boyfriends, dad.”
Lou’s face shifts through surprise, to joy, to smug understanding. He smiles at Cole, who rolls his eyes.
“Boyfriends, eh?” he says, raising his eyebrows. “Who knew?”
“Lay off it, dad,” says Cole. “Can we come in or not?”
Lou steps back to let them all pass through, waving them in with pleasantries and greetings, and when Cole passes him he pats him on the shoulder and smiles, his eyes gentle and proud. Cole smiles back, embarrassed. He’s still a little bit mad that his dad figured things out before he did, but honestly? He can’t be that upset, what with the way it all worked out.
Okay, maybe a little. But only because his dad is being so smug about it. Otherwise, he’s completely fine. After all, he’s dating the three best people in Ninjago, so what’s he got to be mad about?
Cole grins as he walks into the living room to find Kai and Jay mid-bicker already, with Zane attempting to act as mediator. They stop when they see him, all three sets of eyes lighting up, and his grin grows wider. Yeah. He’s doing pretty good.

At the end of the day what saved Damien's life wasn't some miracle or heroic intervention.
It was a child sneezing in his face at a party. The counselman, damned if Damien could remember his name now, just laughed and said something about kids being kids. Ever professional Damien waved it off, managing to joke right back while going for a handkerchief.
And then he woke up with a sore throat two days later.
Of course it didn't stay at just that. Voice rough as sandpaper, Damien had to phone his secretary that he wouldn't be in. If how he felt right now was anything to go by he'd be out for a few days at least. It wasn't in his nature to sit still. Not since he was a child. Especially not since he injured his leg. The time immediately after the accident was one of the worst periods in his life not only for the pain and the limitations he suddenly found on himself but for the immobility. Waiting for his body to repair itself was as painful as the torn muscles and ligaments.
Damien signed, pinching the bridge of his nose. While his colleagues convinced him to stay out of the office he could at least make some headway with these forms. Or try anyways. The constant pounding behind his eyes seemed to have other ideas.
There was a light knock on the door. "Come in," he called, voice catching against his irritated throat and sending him into a coughing fit. It was only when he recovered that he saw who it actually was.
"My friend what're you doing here?" He asked, more of a croak than anything.
The district attorney huffed. It was a fond, exasperated noise as they crossed the room. "I was told you had one foot in the grave, Dames. With that cough I don't think they were exaggerating."
Damien waved a hand, setting aside the paper he was trying and failing to parse. "You know better than to listen to their dramatics. I'm fine, just a head cold. These things-"
Damien's voice abruptly choked off in his throat as he turned, seeing the attorney's hand reach out. The back of their hand against his forehead was blissfully cool. The motion hadn't even registered until they were touching him.
"...happen," he finished lamely.
They clicked their tongue, obviously not satisfied with that answer. "You're warm. Probably been feverish all morning and ignoring your body in favor of..." Their eyes drift over the documents in front of him, "meeting minutes."
Over the years he knew well enough he was on the wrong side of this debate.
Still, he cleared his rough throat and tried to defend himself. "It's just so I can be kept up to date."
"It's because you don't know how to sit still."
They ignore Damien's squawk of protest as they snatch his papers away. "You get these back when you don't look like you'll get toppled by a stiff breeze," they wave the bundle as if to extenuate. Damien scowled. "You really don't need the patronizing."
They rolled up the meeting minutes and bopped him on the head like one would a disobedient dog. He batted their hand away as they settled down in a chair opposite his desk. The amusement in their eyes dulled some of his annoyance. Slightly.
"Really, Dames, you gotta take better care of yourself. You look absolutely miserable. If I left right now you'd be asleep at your desk within the hour."
He huffs, fiddling with other bits and bobs on his desk, putting them into place so he'd have something to do with his hands. Normally he had enough discipline to mask the habit but he chalked that up to the illness. "I'm not going to drop dead from a cold, you know. I'm a grown man. I can handle myself."
Something in their gaze softened. "I never said you couldn't. Just that there are people who would prefer to keep you around a little longer? It's alright to take a break and heal every now and then, Dames."
"I- I know that," he fidgets in his seat. Later he'd blame the fever for how much their words flustered him. They shake their head, knowing this was a well worn pattern for him at this point. Instead, they change the subject. "I'm assuming you'll be tapping out on Mark's big party then?"
"That was this weekend wasn't it," he said, pinching the bridge of his nose. Though that was still a couple days away, he certainly didn't feel up to that kind of get together right now. "I haven't called yet. I had hoped I'd be over this by now."
"He'll mourn your absence with his usual drama. Not to mention sharing your portion of the alcohol." They leaned back in the chair. "I'm sure he'll just use it as an excuse to throw another one later."
"He hasn't had us all in the same room for years," Damien sighed. "Honestly? I was surprised he even planned this- considering. I had wanted to check in on everyone at least."
Hell, he hadn't heard from his sister in some time either. Though that wasn't entirely out of character for her, Damien couldn't help the concern. The tabloids had, unfortunately, left little to the imagination. Whenever Damien reached out he was met with silence.
"I just hope Will doesn't bring any guns," they frowned at the thought. "It'll be awkward enough before mixing in booze and firearms."
"They're not going to shoot each other. Give them some more credit."
The district attorney held up their hands. "I'm just saying they're both hotheads at times. I'll be sure to give you an update on the property damage afterwards."
Seeing his disappointment, they moved their chair closer. Reaching out to clasp his hand, they gave him a reassuring smile. "It won't be the last time we're all together, Dames. I promise. I bet I could get Mark to monologue you a toast too."
A laugh bubbled up out of him and it was all he could do to avoid coughing in their face. His eyes darted to their joined hands and then away again. "I'm sure. Just- be careful? We're not in our college days anymore, old friend."
A gentle squeeze and then the contact was gone. Settled back in their chair like nothing happened.
"I'm always careful," the rueful smile said otherwise. "I'll be back with stories and a hangover and hopefully you'll be able to keep your lungs on the inside by then."
With a roll of his eyes the conversation turned to work related matters. Cases on their desk and how Damien was handling the planning for re-election. In hindsight he'd wished desperately that they had talked about something of more substance. Something more meaningful than debates and fundraising.
But they didn't.
Since they didn't, he bade them a gravely farewell and only coughed once through it. They smiled, said they would bring him soup when they came by next time. The district attorney didn't say anything as they stood to leave. He didn't say anything as he watched them go.
He wishes he did when he didn't hear from them later. He wishes he did when he's pulled into an interview with police officers after the fact. He wishes he did when he first saw the newspapers and tabloids about the scandal, the party, the murders. Damien desperately wishes he could go back and tell them not to go as he views the mansion from the road. Seemingly abandoned if not for the police tape and cordon surrounding the property. Too many uniforms coming and going. Too many questions unanswered.
Everyone was gone. If not for a child sneezing on him he would have been gone along with them. He was the last one left. Damien didn't know which was fate was worse.

Sebastian x Elliot Headcanons
I'm down bad for these two quiet
They probably met at the dock
Imagine there's normal weather patterns and it can randomly start raining okay?
So sebastian has a computer so he probably checks the weather
Elliott has no TV, no computer so he can't check
Sebastian starts walking to the dock right before it starts raining
Elliott is already out there
And it just starts POURING
Like really coming down
Elliott is like "Oh no" and runs over asking if he can use Sebs umbrella just until he can get inside
Sebastian is like "Uh sure" and they walk over to his cabin and Elliot suddenly looks really inspired
"Thanks, I can add this to my romance book!" And rushes inside and Sebastian is just standing there like "You can h w a t"
A few days later Sebastian comes back and is like "Hey, about that umbrella thing, wtf do you mean add it to your book, I just walked you a couple feet."
And Elliott starts going off like "Okay so you know how it's the cliche kiss at the end of a date outside the front door and like sharing an umbrella gets them close? So I was thinking-"
And Sebastian just listens
And he's like "Oh no"
Cause Elliot has a really nice voice
My voice claim for him is Liam O'Brien from Vox Machina
ANYWAY
Sebastian is just like "Uh huh, cool" And walks away like "OH NO"
I imagine he goes home and texts Sam like "I think I have an idea for a song"
And Sam is like "OH HELL YEAH" cause he thinks Sebastians song will be sick as hell
And then they try it out and it's like this love song about someone being super out of their league
And Sam and Abby are like "... Man, are you good?"
And he's like "You can't laugh at me."
And they nod with their fingers crossed
"Y'know the guy that lives on the beach?"
They start nodding
"Also a loner, probably mentally ill, it checks out."
And then go over to Elliott and he's writing poetry about how he wants to kiss the carpenters son
I may be projecting but I think Sebastian falls soft and slow while Elliot falls hard and fast
So with Sebastian being like "Yeah, Elliott's lowkey fine as hell" He didn't know what to do
Also, Elliott is a stoner because I said so
One day Sebastian enters the saloon and he just REEKS of weed and Elliott just sniffs the air and is like "Perfect smoke circle acquired"
He doesn't really know how to approach Sebastian about it though
But Sam is trying to be a wingman and is like "Elliott, my bud, my pal, my good good friend, can I ask a favor?" And asks him to review the song that Sebastian wrote
Sebastian is like "Wtf are you doing?"
"Helping."
And Elliott is like "Sure, okay"
And after a while of reading it he's like "It sounds like you wrote it high. Like this doesn't seem like him, was he high?"
And Sebastian let's out a laugh and is like "They wouldn't put it past me but no, I wasn't high."
And Elliott is like "We should smoke some time, that would be fun."
And Sebastian is like "Alright fine."
ALSO MY FARMER IS ALSO A STONER
They meet up to smoke and Elliott is like "Did you know the farmer is really good at baking? Both ways too."
And Sebastian laughs
Like actually laughs as Elliott hands him a brownie
They both lie on the floor and get high and then Elliott is like "That was a love song, yeah?"
"Huh? Oh yeah."
"Hmm... Was it about someone specifically?"
Sebastian is like "Yeah, how'd you know?"
"There were a couple lines about living on the beach and not living up to a romance book expectations"
And Sebastian is like "I gotta call someone real quick" and pulls out his phone
"SAMSON WHAT THE FUCK NOW HE KNOWS"
And Elliott is like "Don't worry, I thought it was cute."
They talk it out
Elliott is like "I could take you on the best date of your life"
And Sebastian is like "The only date of my life."
Elliott is like "How much do bus tickets cost to Zuzu city?"
And Seb is like "... You ever ridden a motorcycle?"
The date is honestly pretty fun
They go to a library and Elliott buys him some new sci-fi books
They also go thrift shopping
Afterwards, Seb is like "That was fun"
And Elliott just nods with this look on his face like he's almost sad
And Sebastian is like "Do you wanna... come in?"
So Sebastian sneaks him into his room
NSFW MINORS DNI
Ngl, it probably doesn't start right away
Elliott is like "Tell me if I'm wrong but I have a feeling this room is soundproofed"
And Sebastian is like "And from that you know why I invited you in?"
And Elliott just looks at him awkwardly before Sebastian just pounces
It's a little awkward, teeth clash and their noses bump but it's perfect to them
They both chuckle a bit at the clumsiness before angling their heads for a better connection
Elliott had ditched his coat snd vest for the date so there was a lot less clothing in the way
The new hoodie Sebastian got had a zipper so there was easier removal
Elliott however had gone for a half button shirt
As he pulled it off, his hair was pulled back and Sevastian groaned at the sight
"You look good with your hair pulled back"
Elliott grinned and grabbed a hair tie from his wrist, tying it back into a ponytail
Sebastian bit his lip and pulled him back in for another kiss
As they shimmied their pants off Sebastian motioned to his desk
"Condoms, lube"
Elliott quickly got them before turning around to see Sebastian stroking himself, hand in his boxers
Elliott had to hold back a growl at Sebastians panting face
As he climbed back on the bed, Sebastian fully removed his boxers and leaned back slightly
Elliott slicked up his fingers and pushed one in
"That feel okay?"
"Mhm! More than okay."
As Elliott added a second finger Sebastian threw his head back and moaned
Elliott was a goner for his expression, pulling out his fingers and ripping open the condom wrapper
He held himself above Sebastian and kissed him, interlocking their fingers as he pressed in
Sebastians mouth fell open in a silent moan and grabbed onto Elliotts hair, pulling slightly
"Fuck, baby, do that again." Elliot whined as he began to rock his hips
Sebastian continued tugging Elliotts hair, pulling him down to his neck
Elliott took that as a cue to start sucking and biting his neck, dark red splotches being left behind in his wake
At a particularly hard bite, Sebastian arches his back and clenched around Elliott, making him grin
"You like when it hurts, love?"
Sebastian nodded, squirming as Elliot bit down again
Elliott started moving his hips faster, gripping onto Sebastians hips and dogging his nails in
"Fuck, oh fuck! Yes, like that!" Sebastian tugged Elliotts hair harder, losing himself in the pleasure
A growl from Elliott made Sebastians eyes open, looking at the purely animalistic look of Elliotts face
Sebastian burned that into his memory, feeling himself getting close
"You close? C'mon, cum for me, be a good boy."
Sebastian tipped over the edge with that and let out stuttered gasps, attempting to close his legs around Elliott as he shot ropes across his chest
With a few more pumps, Elliott filled the condom and gently pulled out of Sebastian, tying it off and throwing it in the trash can
"Shh, you did so well, you were so good." Elliott stroked his hair, holding him close to his chest
As Sebastians breathing evened out he stretched from staying in the same position and yawned
"Can you get me a towel? Bathroom's upstairs next to the kitchen." He mumbled and let his head fall back to his pillow
Elliott returned shortly after along with a glass of water
Sebastian slowly sipped the water as Elliott wiped him down
After he had finished about half the glass, he set it down and stretched out his arms for Elliott
"Stay the night, I'll think of an excuse tomorrow morning"
The next morning, Sebastian walked Elliott back to his cabin and chuckled
"Just like the book" He grinned and kissed Elliott before waving and making his way back
Bonus
"So, you had fun last night" Abigail grinned at him
"I have no clue what you're talking about."
Sam walked up behind him and pulled his hood higher up his neck
"The hood isn't as high as you think it is, Seb." And Sebastian immediately realized why Demetrius looked more disappointed than usual
"So how was it?"
"I'm not telling my best friends about my sex life."
"Ooh, that means it was kinky~"
"Maybe we stop talking now."

had a rlly rough start to today. was up by 9:30 which is a decent time to wake up, considering my sleep schedule has been as over the place this week. i woke up to a text from someone i worked with recently pointing out a mistake i had made, and as awful as it initially made me feel, i gathered myself, apologised and explained the situation etc. i felt terrible, like i do when even the slightest thing goes wrong. i’m always anticipating failure anyway, and besides i knew about the mistake, it just that it’s mostly beyond my control. i have very limited resources. anyway, yeah they responded by saying this doesn’t affect us working together and that he’s more than interested in continuing to work with me, just that he thought it was important to discuss so we could have it in mind moving forward, which i really appreciate. but the part in me that loves to be anxious and think the worst of myself, is trying to take this opportunity to make me sink back into a spiral, but i know it’s not that deep, people make mistakes, and it has already been resolved. i don’t need to worry about it. worry is my worst enemy. even things that shouldn’t cause concern make me sweat from concern. i can’t take it easy i can’t sit back and relax, i live inside a personal hell. there is no rest from this madness. i need a fucking break. i’m exhausted. from the moment i wake up to crying myself to sleep and even in sleep i have nightmares everyday, i wake up exhausted from being anxious in my sleep all night. for the past few years i have been exhausted, i have been feeling like i’m going crazy. i am going crazy. oh god there’s so much stuff. i feel as if i will never see success in my career, i will never be independent, i will never recover from my past, i will never see peace and safety, i feel like i will spend my whole life worrying and grieving and suffering, even in my deathbed, i’ll be plagued with anxiety. and im so lonely, not in a i don’t have friends way, i do have amazing friends, but im lonely in the way that everyone is lonely sometimes. in the way that in this world we have ourselves. lonely in the way that nobody will know exactly what it’s like to live how i live, feel what i feel, or what i’m thinking. nobody will understand me the way i do, and i have to use my words to communicate it, to try to bridge the gap between language and reality, between the outside and my insides. and yet in a way, everything is the same, everyone who has ever lived has had feelings. i’m doing the best i can. everyone is. i guess. in their own twisted way. it’s too early to call anyone and i find that im very dishonest about my feelings via text as opposed to how vulnerable i am when im speaking over a call. i pretend to be happy and fine, for two reasons, 1) i try to fake it till i make it, 2) not to cause unnecessary trouble or concern.
i just got offered a gig on the 22nd, but it’ll be 42 degrees that day, i’ll actually die of a heatstroke because that studio doesn’t have air conditioning. i don’t know what to do. i know ill have a flare up but i hate not being able to go or having to turn down gigs.
okay wtf look at what the costar app just sent me:
Tumblr media
that is so insane. co star is crazy for this fr. they always send me something so related to my day. jesus. almost makes you think astrology is real.
anyway yeah, so i have a lot to do but ill probably end up watching tv and buying unnecessary groceries today. which is honestly a perfectly normal thing to do when on holiday. i’ll try not to feel guilty about it.

The last few weeks, y'all
My mother keeps saying it's been a "tough karma weekend" and I just want to shake her and ask her does the understand that implies I deserve it??? Does she think I am a horrible person??
Anyway
Last May, I felt like I had a really nasty uti (called a "bladder infection" colloquially where I live). I went to the doc, given antibiotics of the general kind, and was tested for an actual UTI. Never got results. Called, never got an answer, etc.
Continue to be sick through June and July. With the return to work looming, I went to my regular doc in mid-July. I was given antibiotics and a test to see if there was a UTI.
The techs on the test accidentally tore the name label, making the final "e" of my last name disappear, so the test could not be run.
Doctor is making noise about cancer being more important to check for than running another infection check, and I'm referred to a specialist. He talks cancer (I'm cool, this is fine, this is fine, I mean, someone at my workplace was literally fired for missing too many days due to cancer without enough "evidence" last year, but I'm SURE IT WILL BE FINE) , then orders a CT scan and finds a HUGE KIDNEY STONE in my right kidney.
16 mm, if you are a kidney stone aficionado like myself. A stone must be under 5 mm to have a chance of passing on its own.
Now first, I have had about a dozen stones over the last 20 years, but this one was in the kidney, so it didn't hurt like a stone. It was just screwing stuff up in there, thus making the painful and sick UTI symptoms.
Secondly, this should have been dealt with back in March but whatEVS.
I put off the surgery for a few weeks because we're back to work and being out in the beginning of the year is a nightmare.
August 28, I have the procedure to break up the stone and a stent put in.
August 29, I know that something is Not Right because I am in constant, throbbing pain.
August 30, I call the doc and am, of course, completely dismissed about the whole pain issue. "That's normal" the nurse says before basically hanging up on me.
Sept. 7, 9:15 am. The stent is removed at the doctor's office. The relief is incalculable because that thing hurt like a MOTHER every second of every day.
By 1:00 I know that something is, once again, Very Wrong, because THIS time I have the HELLA OW back pain that is a kidney stone in the ol' tubes AND feel like I am (TMI) still peeing boiling acid as I have since Aug. 29. And for a special bonus, there is vomiting. (There's no fever. I haven't run a fever in two decades. My body just Does Not Care to Try That Hard.)
Call doc, leave message. Call doc at 1, leave message. Call doc at 3, leave message. Decide fine, I will drive my deeply pained and probably shouldn't be driving ass 40 minutes to the hospital ER. (An ambulance ride would be 100s of dollars, even with my pretty good health insurance, and I've already spent several hundred on this situation in copays.)
Sitting in the ER with 1/4 of the city's population, the doc's office finally calls back around 4 pm and says, "With those symptoms, you need to go immediately to the AR."
SURPRISE BENCH I'M ALREADY HERE.
Wait in the ER and have a test now and again from ~4pm to 10:30 pm. (The hospital did make sure I paid my $150 ER copay even though they had done nothing for two hours at the time. Priorities.) Make nice with the nurses, trying to figure out why I have been given zero pain meds when I have been officially referred my by doctor for a kidney stone related issue. Find out about 9 they will not give me pain meds without a urinalysis.
My dudes, my laydees, my folks who have no time for the gender binary, I had no liquid left in my poor, dehydrated, screaming body. ALSO the drink machine in the ER is closed and I am there alone, so I can't send someone to brave the streets in search of some gosh darned water. THERE IS NO WATER TO DRINK EXCEPT THE BATHROOM TAP AND NOT A SINGLE CUP AVAILABLE TO THE ILL MASSES.
A kind nurse finally gets me a cup of ice water, which I gulp down because dammIT I am in pain. Finally, peeage happens around 10:00.
It takes more than an hour to run the test and find out, wow, I have a raging infection. By this time I have had an abdominal sonogram and a CT scan, so they KNOW I have a giant obstruction! WHY DID I NEED AN INFECTION TO GET PAINKILLERS.
So I'm sitting there, crying silently in pain because you know. And the skin on my face is RIDICULOUS and literally is BURNED BY MY TEARS so I look an especial mess and no one is checking on me but I am clearly making the other pathetic ER patrons uncomfortable. Finally, the nurse I had been very politely asking for updates throughout the night comes up and asks, "Are you ready to get out of here?" and moves me, bless her, to a weird little side room with a powerful "This used to be a closet vibe." I get painkillers a little before midnight. I have been in full kidney stone pain for 11 hours.
The nurses tell me the CT scan show a 1.6 centimeter stone in my tubage. I think, "Wait, that's hardly smaller than it was," before my American brain goes back to middle school math class and says, "WAIT THAT IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS 16 MM WHAT THE H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS?!"
At 1:30 AM I am moved to the room and told my doc will see me in the morning.
Doc arrives ~8 am. I have had nothing to drink since midnight, so I am hoping we get this show on the road. He tries to claim the original procedure "worked" because the stone is broken up it just, you know, all JAMMED ITSELF BACK INTO A BALL as soon as the stent was out and built a little campsite complete with RAGING FIRE so we are gonna have to have another procedure under full anesthesia to pull it out and put in another stent.
I was too tired to strangle him, so I am not in jail.
I am finally taken back for surgical prep and to sign my life away around 4. I sit around for hours and finally go back to surgery ~ 7 pm.
Friends, acquaintances, and mortal enemies, I was so fricking thirsty.
ANYWAY I'm back to my room, feeling grumpy because my version of getting high from "the good stuff" is becoming Oscar the Grouch Minus Trashcan. I never get to feel all floaty and nice. Because life is a bench.
By the next morning, it is absolutely clear to me that something was VERY WRONG with the previous stent because THIS one is mildly uncomfortable, and not HELLO KNIVES TO THE GUT by my doc is just still trying to claim the first surgery was a success even though it FAILED SO BADLY I HAD A SECOND SURGERY (complete with copay). But whatever, your girl is tired, I wanna go home.
I am driven home because one can't drive on The Good Stuff. I'm home about 2 pm on Saturday afternoon, and zonk out in front of the television. Hallelujah.
Friend gives me a ride to the ER parking lot on Sunday to get my car. This means I haven't taken pain pills, but I'm not feeling the need since there is, apparently, nothing wrong with this fnjdksbhkbgiywebubWOEING stent unlike the first one. We pull up, I hop out and turn the key in my lovely little toy car.
AND IT DOES NOT START.
IT HAS DIED JUST SITTING IN THE ER PARKING LOT.
WHAT THE HELL ROSALEE??? I THOUGHT WE LOVED EACH OTHER!! I KNOW I KEEP TOO MUCH JUNK IN THE BACKSEAT BUT THIS???
Now, I do not have my cellphone because I somehow didn't plug it in last night and it was dead this morning. I am blaming the grouchy morphine. My jumper cables are, I realize, hanging in my garage, and my friend doesn't have any. We take her car to go buy jumper cables. Return to the ER parking lot, where we have become an entertaining show for the security personnel stuck out by the front entrance, drinking coffee and most likely taking bets on jumping the toy battery inside my toy car, which is stupidly difficult to get hooked up to the cables.
While I am waging war, a lovely mechanic walks by (female presenting person by open car hood looking pitiful generally leads to this in my area, and I appreciate it) and finally! Rosalee is running!
My friend insists on following me back to the auto place Just in Case only she leaves her phone in my car somehow and I have NO phone and we completely misunderstand what was supposed to happen and lose each other to driving the 2 miles between ER and Auto Zone several times trying to figure out where the heckadoodle the other person IS.
Every time you go through the ER parking lot, it costs $2 to get out. Just. As a bonus.
BUT FINALLY we met up at the AutoZone, and of course my Toy Battery is only available in one premium style (because toy cars are a pain in the klodney; my toy car also comes with impossible-to-find TOY TIRES, I kid you not, do not trust online reviews and research when you are a vehicle luddite). But that's okay! It's fine! The wonderful, knowledgeable tech installs it, my friend and I part ways with only minimal frustrated crying, she has her phone, I have my car, and I DRIVE HOME TO MY HOUSE AND GO TO BED FOREVER AND EVER AMEN.
Except I have to get everything ready for work tomorrow, so.....I'm awake again.
And my mother keeps insisting it's a "bad karma experience" and I'm just
DO YOU THINK I AM A SERIAL KILLER OR SOMETHING I LITERALLY DO NOT SQUASH SPIDERS.
Anyway, have a nice week, everyone, I am going back to bed until 6 in the ack emma.
Bai.

I have no memory of whether or not you reblogged the halloween ask game post but1. If you did, Trick Or Treat 👻 and 2. if you didnt. You should talk about TADC stuff it would be cool
I think i didnt but I DID want to reblog it I just. forgor im also a bit late its already november 1st in my timezone but HEY WHY NOT ANYWAYS youre getting various random TADC stuff AS a treat because I love talking about it and its the only thing I can think about now so i think youve seen my tadc post SOOO adding more stuff to it: i think the thing that can also mess you up there is that theres. probably no normal passage of time. pretty sure that both the moon and the sun are out at the same time (or at least most of the time?) so I imagine you have no way to tell how many days have passed. like you MAY know youve been there for a long time but also you have no idea would I still like to be here? YEAH ACTUALLY. help for me its like "stimming isnt enough i need to explode" but instead its like. "stimming isnt enough i need to be put into a (probably) inescapable colorful confusing liminal space-like place that will make you go insane in the long run". fun fact to me this also applies to the spiral's hallways (from TMA) more stuff: ive had a dream where ive almost abstracted. and i can feel ANYTHING that happens to me in my dreams even if its something impossible to feel in real life (i mean, you cant really get abstracted in real life) and in that dream it felt like youre. PHYSICALLY glitching and losing control of yourself and all of that and you cant really do anything about it and its. scary. i dont consider this dream a nightmare though because im fine with that if the dream is related to a special interest i have and even MORE stuff: i love those pieces of media that have a variety of characters similarly to this one i love to put them in memes like. text posts-like memes or those blank ones that you can put characters in like. i dont even know how to explain it maybe ill make some of those memes someday too but ive seen a few already and i love those. anyways i can think of THREE different pieces of media that fall into those and those are. TADC, pizza tower and bugbo. i love all of those. so much

Ardyn with Sick SO
So here I am again with another Ardyn x Reader post, I haven’t been feeling well lately and my amazing older sibling has been nothing but caring towards me and so I thought about how Ardyn would care for his sick SO, especially since he was a healer at some point. Again, he will probably be OOC because I’m not super used to writing him. Anyways, please enjoy!
_______________________________________________
You let out a horrible wet cough again as you curled up deeper into your blankets, feeling miserable as you felt cold despite having a fever. You were fine just yesterday when you were at work and even in the evening wen you were out with your significant other, Ardyn. However, as you made your way back to your room at the condo you were living at, you began to feel quite cold so you did everything you could to fight off the incoming illness as you knew that you were one to get sick extremely fast. The cup of tea and extra sleep did little to help you though as you woke up this morning feeling quite sick, you called into work right away and let Ardyn know by text that you were unable to see him today. You snapped out of your thoughts as there was a shap knock against your door and you groaned as it made your head pound, you opened your mouth to speak but you went into another coughing fit. You sat up and as it began to calm down, you heard the lock to your room click and you knew that the only one who could’ve gotten in at this point would be Ardyn as you had given him a key, just in case he wanted to stop by and visit. You heard the door open and you waited patiently in bed as the there were footsteps coming towards the bedroom.
“(Y/N) are you in your bedroom?” came Ardyn’s deep, yet soothing voice.
“Yes, I’m here” you squeaked in a rough voice that was almost non-existent, Ardyn came into the bedroom a few moments later and his amber eyes met your (E/C) ones.
“Ah, there you are my sick little bird, how are you holding up?” Ardyn asked as he came over to the bed and sat down beside you.
“I’d be better if I wasn’t sick… I didn’t even get a chance to fight it off before it fully hit me” you replied in a squeaky voice, Ardyn put his right wrist against your forehead and you flinched as it felt cool to the touch.
“You’ve got a fever my dear so why don’t you let me go make some tea for you and take care of you?” he asked, you shook your head.
You’ve got work to do Ardyn, you can’t just drop everything to come take care of me” you pointed out, Ardyn chuckled as he pulled his wrist away from your forehead.
“My job requires me to be away for days at a time so believe me when I say that I won’t be missed for the few days I’ll be gone to take care of you” Ardyn noted in an unconcerned tone.
“You make it sound as if it’s normal for you to just disappear” you mumbled.
“That’s because it is normal for me to disappear at random points quite often” Ardyn said as he got up and went to leave, you grabbed at his right hand though and he paused to look at you.
“Just please promise me that you won’t get chewed out by your bosses, I’d feel bad” you noted, Ardyn smiled.
“I won’t get chewed out (Y/N), now you rest easy until I can get back with some tea for you” Ardyn said.
“It’s hard to relax when I feel this miserable though” you protested, Ardyn rose his right eyebrow at you and he sat back down onto the bed, you released his right hand and he gently pushed you back down onto your pillow.
“I never said it was easy but you will have to just put up with it for now when you’re in this condition” Ardyn shot back in a firm but gentle voice that reminded you of a doctor fussing over a patient who had just woken up in the hospital and was trying to move about.
“Fine… but be quick as having you here is aking my mind off of how miserable I’m feeling” you reluctantly noted, Ardyn chuckled as he leaned over and planted a gentle kiss on your forehead before getting up again.
“Do not worry my little bird, you won’t even know that I’ve been gone for that long” Ardyn stated and then left the room, you could hear him moving around in the kitchen and slowly you could feel tiredness creeping into your body. Perhaps a quick nap WOULD be helpful for you and with Ardyn here, you were certain that you’d be well taken care of until you recovered. You let out a content sigh and smiled ever so slightly as you closed your eyes and allowed yourself to be pulled into a deep, peaceful rest.

“Good morning!”
“Do you need help with that?”
“Oh hey, wanna walk to class together?”
“See you tomorrow!”
For the past few weeks (yes, weeks), your ears had been ringing with the sound of barking— er, the chipper sound of Thoma’s voice as he kept hanging around you. You didn’t know exactly why he was so insistent on going out of his way to talk to you, but he didn’t seem to have any ill intentions or ulterior motives, so you let him do whatever he pleased.
…That, and perhaps he had grown on you a little bit. Just a little.
Anyway, today was a weekend, so you wouldn’t see the puppy-boy. The weekend was a precious, precious time for you, whose social battery was easily drained; it was a time you reserved solely for yourself to recuperate after all the stress that the weekdays brought. So on this fine day, you decided to venture into The Great Outdoors on a great and noble quest to purchase the finest rations that a relaxing weekend would require. In this case, that meant freshly baked bread from a nearby bakery.
There was a lively spring to your step as you walked, mouth watering slightly as you thought about all the warm bread that awaited you; normally you preferred to stay indoors and hide from the light of day, but today was different. It was the perfect weather to walk outside— on days like these, the sun’s rays chose to play hide-and-seek over rooftops and through tree-branches, without scorching everything to death and blinding you for no good reason.
Hey, even someone who normally shunned the light of day would want to go outdoors once in a while, right?
You took a deep breath and savoured the gift of your senses; feeling the pleasant contrast between the faint warmth of asphalt through your shoes and the soft breeze that cooled your face, admiring the vibrant colour of lit by sunshine— and most importantly, smelling the bewitchingly sweet aroma of fresh bread that signalled you were close to your destination.
One step, two steps… just a few more paces before you completed your quest.
"Whoa, Taroumarou, slow down! Don’t tug on the leash like that, you’ll hurt yourself—"
You froze in your tracks, your entire body stiffening at the sound of a voice that was unfortunately all-too-familiar. Coming from just around the corner— no, it couldn’t be. You were hallucinating.
“Taroumarou- ugh, don’t pee in that flower-pot! That’s not your toilet!”
(Okay, maybe you weren't hallucinating, because if you were... was it possible to file a complaint to whatever part of your brain was in charge of creating hallucinations? Could you just ask to have this particular hallucination replaced?)
Your heart hammered against your ribs as you tiptoed to peek around the corner, praying fervently that you were mistaken. But still another part of you fluttered anxiously with hope— as to what you were hoping for, it was still unsure.
Blond hair that shone like gold in the sunlight.
Emerald-green eyes framed with long, sun-kissed lashes.
A pair of strong, slender hands that grasped onto the leash of an absolute unit of a fluffy dog, who was blessed with fur that almost matched the colour of his owner’s hair and was almost as fluffy.
Lips that curved into an exasperated smile, gently reprimanding said dog as his owner tried to persuade him to change his choice of toilet.
It was almost comedic, really— just an ordinary student struggling to walk his dog on a fine afternoon, an ordinary scene that you’d pass by without a second thought. On any other day you'd have ignored him and continued to walk through the world in your own protective bubble so you wouldn’t get invested in the lives of other people... yet here you stood, absolutely spellbound by this stranger.
The puppy-boy laughed and shook his head, leaning down to scratch his dog under the chin, and a strange shudder ran down your spine. It was like scales had fallen from your eyes, revealing the Thoma that you had never seen before— or perhaps never wanted to see until now.
Your heart knocked against your ribs, once, twice, and then paused a beat.
“Thoma?”
His name slipped from your lips before you could catch yourself, and the boy eagerly perked up at the sound of his name, just like when you had first met. “Oh, it’s you! I didn’t expect to run into you here.” Thoma tugged on Taroumarou’s leash lightly, gently nudging the dog forward with his foot. “Taroumarou, say hello to my classmate.”
“Ah… hello, Taroumarou.”
The dog trundled towards you, snuffling around your legs and shoes till it was satisfied and gave an approving woof.
“Looks like he likes you,” Thoma grinned, squatting down to scratch Taroumarou behind his ears. “It’s not that easy to get the approval of Boss Dog over here, so you must be quite extraordinary for him to favour you like this.”
“Is that so?” Squatting down at a carefully calculated distance from Thoma (for decency's sake, you rationalised), you leaned closer to peer at Taroumarou’s dark eyes and fluffy cheeks. “Say, Taroumarou, may I pet you?”
(Now, under normal circumstances you'd have retained your more reserved persona around people you weren't close with, but in this case... what could you do? There was a very cute, fluffy dog just within reach, and if it wasn't obvious enough, you had a particular weakness for puppies.)
Boss Dog yipped, and Thoma leaned closer to listen as if he were the dog’s official interpreter. “What was that, boy? Can my- ew, don’t lick inside my ear! Gross!”
Both puppy-boy and puppy toppled onto the pavement as Taroumarou happily jumped up to lick Thoma’s face, and you couldn’t help it, you really couldn’t— you burst into laughter right then and there.
Not the polite, canned laughter that you used around people, no— it was the roaring, dying wheezes of someone who hadn't laughed this much since grade school, and your stomach muscles sorely paid the price for it. You barely stopped yourself from collapsing onto the pavement and howling like a hyena, but it didn't help one bit that the Boss Dog still kept jumping around Thoma like a little imp intent on eating earwax for a snack. Your lungs pleaded for mercy and your face ached from all the smiling, but all you could do was to laugh even harder.
Meanwhile, the source of your laughter froze rigidly, his brain slowly processing what was going on as Taroumarou frisked around him. It was the first time he’d ever seen you smile, let alone burst into a fit of laughter that had you whacking your palm against the concrete and tears rolling down your face.
Well, technically it wasn’t the first time, but still— the smiling, giggling version of you that stood before him now, it was because of something he (and Taroumarou) did. You were smiling because of him.
“Ah- I’m sorry.” You wheezed, brushing a stray tear from your eye. “I promise I wasn’t laughing because you fell. It just was so funny to see Taroumarou hopping around like that…”
“Yeah, yeah, I get you there.” Thoma’s face lit up eagerly, his own nonexistent tail wagging behind him. “But he’s not always this crazy, I promise! He’s usually more well-behaved.”
“It’s alright.” Smiling, you scratched Taroumarou behind his ears and reveled in the fluffiness of the Boss Dog. “He seems to be a good boy, whether he’s frisking around or being polite. Aren’t you, Taroumarou?”
Thoma’s furry look-alike rubbed his cheek against your leg and yipped happily. Letting someone from school see you like this was out of character for you, but for some reason you didn’t care anymore.
It suddenly occurred to you that you had no idea on how to proceed from here; you had greeted your classmate, laughed in his face, and from there… what did people even do when they encountered an acquaintance outside of a school or work setting? You didn’t know the standard procedures, but you were pretty sure that it required small talk and some sort of food.
Speaking of food... you'd almost forgotten the reason why you had set out on this journey today.
"Do you like bread?" You suddenly blurted out, realising how stupid the question sounded as soon as it left your mouth (ah, your gift for eloquence was truly unmatched). "There's a good bakery nearby, and they usually bring out the batch for the evening around this time."
Taroumarou perked up at the suggestion, while Thoma's eyebrows shot up in interest. "As a matter of fact, I do like bread. Even more so when it's fresh."
Your mind went completely blank. You had no idea you’d get this far, so now what were you supposed to do?
“That’s good!” Stiffly, you jumped to your feet and marched off in what was hopefully the right direction. "It’s this way.”
Behind you, the dog and his owner exchanged glances before Taroumarou lurched forward. With a strength that could've rivalled King Arthur himself when he pulled out the sword Excalibur, the Boss Dog practically dragged Thoma to follow after you.
“Taroumarou, wait!” Thoma stumbled, just barely catching the leash that nearly slipped out of his hands. “You’re acting really weird today, boy…”
Tumblr media
If only you could go back in time and smack your past self. Or say thank you. You no longer knew which one was the more practical option.
For some reason, you had thought it was a great idea to share your closest-guarded secret, the source of all baked goods divine… with a puppy boy. A very nice, friendly puppy-boy who you could admit was not bad-looking, but he was still an outsider.
A piping-hot bag of assorted bread sat on the little portion of bench between you and Thoma, effectively acting as a barrier to prevent your sanity from disintegrating completely. The look the owner had given you when you’d arrived with a pretty boy in tow was embarassing enough as it was.
This was supposed to be a quiet, peaceful afternoon, you lamented as you nibbled on a piece of bread. You could barely taste it.
“Whoa, the bread here is delicious!” Thoma exclaimed, blissfully oblivious to your inner turmoil. He tore off a tiny piece and tossed it to the ground for Taroumarou to taste. “Here boy, let me know what you think.”
Judging from the way the Boss Dog greedily licked up the little chunk of bread, this bakery also had his paw-print of approval.
“Well, uh… I’m glad you like it.“ You felt the eyes of the store-owner lasering in on you from all the way behind the counter— as far as you knew, she was just an excellent baker who gave you discounts for being a regular, but the fact that you could feel the intensity of her gaze from where you sat outside the bakery made you question if she was secretly some sort of superhuman. “Not a lot of people know about this place, so it’s rarely crowded.”
“You’re joking, right? This place is a hidden gem.”
"In a way, it's also a blessing in disguise. No crowds, no long lines..." Sighing in contentment, you slumped against the back of the bench a là shrimp posture. "I kept this place a secret ever since I found it, just so that it would stay that way. Haven't told a soul."
You froze the minute the words left your mouth; saying it like that might imply that you were entrusting some important secret of yours with Thoma. What if he misunderstood your intentions and thought you were flirting with him? That had been an unfortunately common problem among all your advice-seekers, and it would be humiliating to have to clear up the misunderstanding after you'd scolded so many people for doing the exact same thing.
“Yeah, I kinda understand why.” Thoma mused, his attention wholly fixed on his food. If he had misunderstood you, he showed no signs of it. “Seriously, this is amazing— I should take notes for the next time I bake bread.”
“…You can bake?”
“Yep. It’s kind of like my hobby, along with cooking and cleaning.”
The most absurd image come to mind— ‘Everyone’s Thoma’ opening a window while dressed in full housekeeping gear, complete with rubber gloves and a handkerchief to keep his hair out of his face. You briefly wondered if he was the type to wield a feather duster or a broom as his weapon of choice (for cleaning, of course).
Come to think of it, today was the first time you’d seen him outside of school. In school he was always well-behaved and a perfect gentleman, the dreamy student who everyone adored. It was Thoma’s natural disposition to behave the way he did on campus, but… there was something that was just a touch off from his usual self.
"You seem more relaxed today," You remarked, eyeing the boy who sat next to you. Taroumarou eagerly sniffed the ground, tangling his leash around your shins in his search for fallen crumbs.
"Well, I do suppose so. Weekends are a way for me to destress from the weekdays and all the worries that come with it." He replied, munching thoughtfully on the piece of bread. "I don't want to sound ungrateful for the things I have but... there are a lot of people who have expectations for me, and I don't want to let those people down."
Oh.
You'd had the impression that Thoma was just some generic popular boy who all the students swooned and sighed for, like the male love interest straight out of a cheesy high-school romance story— but apparently you had misjudged him.
Similar to your reputation as a relationship counselor, being 'Everyone's Thoma' was a burden, though one laden with good intentions and well-wishes from others. Because he always looked after everyone and brought joy to hearts of people around him, it became something those people began to take for granted and then even expect from him. It never crossed their minds that sometimes, the person who did all of these things might get worn out; in that sense, he wasn't so different from you, except that it was only even further magnified because of how many people looked up to him.
You had the privilege of slinking into the shadows and disappearing unnoticed, while Thoma... didn't.
Shame flushed hot in your face, gnawing at your stomach with pointy little fangs of guilt. "It must be tiring to deal with all of that."
"Ah, well... not most of the time. It only gets particularly draining on my bad days." Thoma popped the last of his bread into his mouth and smiled cheerfully, as if to say ‘don’t worry about it’.
The people who tell you not to worry about how they feel are usually the ones you should worry about most, you incorrigible pup.
Of all the people and relationships you'd seen and encountered, it always was the ones who disregarded their own feelings who suffered the most. You'd seen one too many girls weeping over a foolish lover not worth their time, pushing their feelings of hurt and grief deep down inside just because they thought that that was how it was to be in love. It was the same with friendships, and in Thoma's case too; if one person disregards their own feelings of stress and emotional pain in order to please the other party, then there was a high chance that the relationship wouldn't last unless something was done about those feelings.
"You know, every once in a while you should live your life for yourself. It wouldn't do you any harm to take care of yourself first."
The words were almost the same as what you had told many of the advice-seekers who begged for your assistance. Take care of yourself first, prioritise yourself— you'd said it so many times till the phrase was hollowed out into an empty formality, lingering on the tip of your tongue like a bitter pill. Over time, your advice became a poison that numbed the senses of the one who gave it out.
But for some reason, you had a faint notion that things had changed.
"Well, this is just my opinion, and well... I don't..." You scratched the back of your head, trying to think of the right words to say. "I don't know if I understand your situation entirely, so I may get things wrong."
He smiled as he fished for a new piece of bread, the corners of his eyes crinkling up like freshly-bloomed flower petals in a way that sent an electric shock tingling down your spine. "It's alright, really. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it anyway."
"You're- well... you're kinda like this bread."
Brilliant. Harvard would be begging on their knees for you to attend their university if they heard you now.
All three of you stared at the half-bitten piece of bread in your hand, although the expression on Taroumarou’s face looked more hungry than anything. Judging from the extremely judgemental aura radiating from behind, the owner had also overheard you.
"How…” Thoma blinked uncertainly. “How am I supposed to take that?"
"As a compliment...?" At that moment, you wanted nothing more but to melt through the ground to be absorbed into plant food. That way you could at least contribute to the well-being of any future ecosystems and make something worthwhile out of your embarassing existence.
The Boss Dog nudged Thoma’s ankle and whined softly, giving you a beady side-eye that would’ve made a grown man cry; compared to his master, Taroumarou was certainly not as merciful to your feelings.
"…Uh, would it be too much for me to assume that you're implying I'm a snack?"
"What— no! That's not what I meant." You spluttered furiously, flailing your hands about as you tried to deny any existence of an unintentional pick-up line. "That wasn’t my intention at all, I promise!”
He snorted and turned his face away, using the bread in his hand to act as a shield (like that would have done anything to conceal his laughter.) “No worries, I’m just joking. I figured you didn’t mean it like that… unless you actually did—“
“Don’t remind me!”
“Haha, alright, alright. I’ll let you finish.” Thoma lowered his bread to reveal a lopsided grin, a slightly teasing lilt to his tone of voice. His golden hair floofed up like a little cloud, giving him the illusion of two puppy-dog ears sprouting from the top of his head.
Cute, a small part of you remarked.
Once you realised what you had just dared to think, your plans to become compost were immediately placed at the top of your priority list. That’s it, you were definitely losing it and it was all his fault.
“Anyway, as I was saying.” You cleared your throat and gestured to your piece of bread. “You’re like this bread.”
“How so, prof?” He shifted to face you, crossing his legs and propping his chin on his hands like he was listening to a teacher. Emerald-green eyes sparkled with such attentiveness that it was starting to make you feel embarassed all over again, which was not helpful at all.
“…Do you want the long or short explanation?”
“I’d like the short explanation, please.”
“You- well…” It was somewhat awkward to say it aloud, but you had already dug your grave and now was the time to lie in it. “I don’t know exactly how to phrase it, but you sort of have the aura of fresh-baked bread. Like... when you’re around other people.”
Thoma’s eyebrows shot up in confusion, his nonexistent ears flopping to one side as he tilted his head. Taroumarou followed the example of his master, looking at you with such adorable confusion that you almost lost your cool. The audacity of these puppies to be so cute…
Luckily your counselor side took over before you had another meltdown, allowing you to continue without incident. “I think that’s what makes people gravitate to you so easily. Do you see how everyone swarms to buy bread in the cafeteria when there’s a fresh batch?”
“Oh, yeah. It’s always difficult to buy anything during that time.”
Your brain was running on fumes at this point— just what exactly had been your point here? It had been quite some time since you’d counselled someone and you hadn’t had the time to prepare yourself as you usually did. The expectant look on Thoma’s face as he gazed intently at you… well, needless to say, it was not helping your thinking process.
But you wanted to at least tell him something that would make him feel better; you didn’t know why, or how you would do it, but you just knew that you wanted to do it.
And fine, maybe you were just a bit worried about him. Call it sympathy from one reliable person to another.
“The thing is… you’re not just some object that can just be pushed around and argued over like the cafeteria bread. You have thoughts and needs just like everyone else, and I don’t think it’d be particularly fair to yourself if you kept pushing those aside for what everyone else wants you to be.” You said quietly, lowering your hand. “You may be similar to freshly-baked bread, but that doesn’t mean you always have to keep giving your time and effort to other people."
Thoma didn’t reply, merely continuing to look at you with an odd, melancholic expression on his face. One finger slowly tapped against his cheek, tracing absent-minded circles there as he gazed into your eyes.
“Ah- I’m sorry. I think I overstepped there.” Hastily you shoved your bread into your mouth, focusing all of your effort on chewing and swallowing so that you wouldn’t have to deal with reality. Without even realising it, you’d slipped into complete counselor mode while talking to him— it seemed that your old habits still remained.
“There’s no need to apologise.” One side of his mouth quirked up into a wry grin. “I was just thinking about what you said, that’s all.”
“If anything about what I said was incorrect, I apologise for assuming. Just- I suppose you can forget about it.”
“No, it actually made me really happy to hear that.” Thoma replied, the little smile on his face growing even further. “Just as I thought, I really am in good hands when I’m with you. Thank you for looking out for me.”
Your face burned hotter than an oven; this puppy-boy really was out for your neck, wasn’t he.
“Ah, the bread’s almost gone! Here, have another piece— you’ve barely eaten anything.”
A piece of bread was promptly thrust in your hands, still warm to the touch— though you had to admit that it wasn’t as warm as the feeling spreading in your chest. Thoma crossed his arms with an air of satisfaction, looking like a proud housewife who had just fed her guests with her hard efforts.
It almost made you want to burst out laughing all over again.
This side of him is definitely different, you decided. But it was a nice side to discover, one that made him a little more human than all the achievements and gushing flattery that were attached to him by others.
Unconsciously, you smiled a little as you bit into the bread he had given you. Oddly enough, it seemed to taste better than when you'd sit on this very bench and eat in solitude— perhaps there was some merit to the saying that food tasted better with company.
"Hey, I just thought of something." Thoma said aloud, nudging Taroumarou slightly with his foot in order to stretch his legs.
"What is it?"
"When you explained the sort of aura I have around other people, I started thinking about what kind of feeling you would have. I've come to the conclusion that you're just like this bakery."
"...How am I even supposed to take that?"
"Well, same as yours. It's a compliment." A different facial expression crept on his features— a look that you almost would've described as sly, if it weren't for how angelic his face naturally looked. To you, it was both amusing and unnerving at the same time.
You paused mid-bite to give him an unimpressed stare. “At least I explained why I thought you were like bread. Where’s your explanation?”
Thoma hummed softly, an amused look in his eyes as he rocked back and forth in his seat. “Maybe another time.”
“Well that’s unfair.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely explain it to you. Boss Dog here is our witness.”
Taroumarou barked in agreement, wagging his tail eagerly as he eyed the bread in your hand. You finished off your bread with a resigned sigh, accepting your fate; maybe making you squirm was just another part of Thoma’s personality.
Quietly, you admired Taroumarou for a few moments, running your fingers through his soft fur and savouring the fluffiness against your fingertips; a small part of you wondered if Thoma’s hair was fluffier, but you quickly dismissed the intrusive thought.
Still, your fingers twitched impulsively as you stole glances at Thoma’s loose, fluffy locks, and you decided that perhaps it was best for you to retire before you did anything rash. You already had several close calls today, and you didn't want to create any more memories that would cause you to scream into your pillow at night from sheer embarrassment.
“Sorry, but I can't stay too long. It's already getting late.” You brushed off the crumbs from your clothes and stood up.
“Oh... I see.” He looked almost regretful at the thought of you leaving (or perhaps it was just your wishful thinking). “In that case, don’t let me keep you.”
“It was… nice to see you today.” The words were no empty formality, you realised; you had genuinely enjoyed getting to see him today. And even more strange was the fact that your social battery was still full, perhaps even revitalised after running into Thoma and Taroumarou.
“Likewise.” Taroumarou yipped happily as Thoma did a little salute and grinned, sending your heart skipping like a lovesick school-girl’s. “Boss Dog says it was nice to see you, too.”
"Ah, um... if it's possible, could I see Taroumarou once in a while?"
"Just Taroumarou?"
You turned back and stared at him, completely lost on how to even respond to that question.
"Ah, you don't have to answer that if you don't want to." Thoma leaned back against the wall and gave you an amused smile, a perfect picture of relaxation in the fading sunlight. "I always walk him around this area, so maybe you can see him the next time you go out for bread."
“That- that’s a great idea.” You gave him an awkward thumbs-up in response, cringing at how stiff you sounded. Something in your chest melted into a mushy, gooey puddle as soon as Thoma tilted his head to face you, his sparkly puppy-boy eyes in full effect.
"We should do this again sometime. Taroumarou really seemed to enjoy getting bread with you today." He lightly shook Boss Dog's leash and patted him on the head. "As did I, of course."
His sincerity took you off-guard, as it always did; how could he live like that, with his heart on his sleeve for everyone to see? Yet at the same time, it didn’t seem like such a terrible way to live.
If all he had given you was his honesty, then it was only fair that you pay him back in a like manner— that was how you rationalised it, anyway.
“…Hey, Thoma.” The following words sat heavily on your tongue like a lump of iron; you weren’t sure if you were close enough for you to say something so… brazen.
"Yes?" A soft smile bloomed over his features, his eyes aglow with warmth that made your heart skip in strange ways and filled you with a strange, reckless courage; did Thoma always smile so gently when he looked at you?
"See you on Monday." You finished the outrageous statement with what hopefully passed for a friendly smile, and waved goodbye. Before Thoma could answer, you scampered off, your stomach twisting in knots as your words burned themselves into your auditory memory permanently— oh, you really hoped you didn’t just embarass yourself. “You can have the rest of the bread!”
Tumblr media
The Boss Dog wondered why his subordinate sat there for such an extraordinarily long time, an unmoving statue even as Taroumarou wriggled himself into Thoma’s lap. His eyes remained dazed and unfocused despite Taroumarou’s best efforts to rouse Thoma from his stupor— what a strange boy. Was Thoma behaving this way because of the other human?
He tilted his head and sneezed, the scent of bread wafting temptingly in his nostrils; Taroumarou was a dignified dog of noble breeding who scorned to behave in a way that was beneath one of his pedigree, but for the sake of his subordinate he had nobly sacrificed his dignity in order to gain extra time with the strange human. Begging for crumbs, yanking on his leash in an undignified manner, even going so far to stall for time by peeing on a flower-pot when he had smelled the nice human from around the corner. Taroumarou recognised the scent from all the times his subordinate came home from school with a giddy smile on his face, the distinct smell of that particular human still lingering on his uniform.
Everything he had done was all because Thoma had seemed so happy when he saw that person— if his subordinate had been a dog, his tail would’ve been wagging non-stop. But now Thoma was very still, like one of those garishly-painted statues in the garden that Taroumarou had deemed as his sworn enemies.
The Boss Dog thought long and hard, pondering as to what could have brought his subordinate into such a state; could it be that this was Thoma’s first time courting?
Well, that seemed to be the only logical answer; the only other answer that Taroumarou could think of was that Thoma really had become one of those urban nightmares also known as the garden gnome. The Boss Dog whimpered slightly— he didn't like that notion at all.
He nudged Thoma’s arm once more, desperately hoping that his efforts would not be in vain. Finally, just when Taroumarou was about to bring out his genius last resort (which was to pee in Thoma’s lap) in order to save his subordinate from an eternity spent as a statue, Thoma spoke.
“Taroumarou, boy…” A strange, giddy smile curved upwards on Thoma’s face, the thrumming of his heartbeat reverberating through his entire body. “I think I’m in big trouble.”
Taroumarou rolled his eyes in a mixture of relief and disgust, nuzzling his snout into the crook of Thoma’s knee. Humans were strange creatures.
