Some background stuff for the Himbros Centaur AU! As mentioned before antlers have a lot of meaning to the cervidae centaurs. They come in many different shapes, sizes, and materials, to the common natural bones ones, to the more uncommon gemstone or metal ones that grants the centaurs some magic abilities (these are pretty much the same magics as my saurian dragons, just without the claims and gods, so if you’re curious you can read about those here!). 

Punz has moonstone antlers and hooves with the ability to control lightning/electricity, while Foolish has gold ones and nature/healing magic. Since they both got rare antlers and magic they were fated as soulmates/life-partners when they were pretty young, with the intentions of Punz practicing fighting to protect Foolish, who would focus more on growing and improving his magic abilities. They were to be an unstoppable fighter and healer duo, but being soulmates they naturally taught each other the skills they learned as well, meaning Punz has quite a good grasp of his lightning magic and Foolish can more than definitely hold his own in a fight.

Both female and male centaurs have antlers and they never shed, but can stop growing at any point. Their culture has a strong belief that large antlers made of metal or gemstones is a sign that the gods are favoring you, blessing your future with luck and fortune. But they also believe that if you lose your antlers for any reason the gods have turned their back on you, damning you to a future of misfortune and misery. 

This is the main reason why Punz, after being captured by humans and having his antlers sawed off, doesn't even attempt to return home once he’s free and healed from his injuries. He knows he’s not welcome back, witnessed centaurs who had lost their antler but managed to return after capture, only to get chased away and exiled by their own life-partners to ensure the safety of the herd.

So Punz makes a little place for himself with Dream and his group of misfit creatures who helped save him, taking on mercenary jobs and helping Dream on missions to pull his weight and makes himself a part of their little family.

Meanwhile Foolish is literally crossing land and ocean to find his soulmate again, knowing very well that Punz has more than likely lost his antlers but is determined to be reunited with him anyways. Despite being one of the most magically gifted centaurs in their herd he’s never fully believed in their gods and their faithed paths, but he does believe in the bond between him and Punz, and that is not something he will easily throw aside or give up on.
