BG3 Companion Music Headcanons

whoops look at me posting fun things. Anyway this is just what I think they'd enjoy listening to and not based on the playlists their actors made for them. I also did not go to the effort of doing research beyond the music I already know for this so if I'm missing some fundamental character song sorry

Karlach: into EDM, rap, pop, and pop punk mainly. anything that gets her moving and has good vibes. lowkey she has highschool dance playlist vibes like you play party rock anthem or timber and this girly is tearing up the floor. shares a Marina playlist with Shadowheart. Delves into the edgier side of pop punk, veering into emo on occasion. Her theme song is hot to go by chapell roann bc duh

Shadowheart: opposite end of the vibes spectrum. She does not want to dance she wants to feel like a bad bitch. Into a balanced amount of mainstream and indie artists. Listens to rihanna, marina, and lady gaga as well as like halestorm and evanescence. She and Karlach have scream sung I miss the misery together at the top of their lungs more then once. Not huge into mcr but she knows all the lyrics to welcome to the black parade as is her duty as an emo

Lae'zel: if you were to walk up to Lae'zel Githyanki and ask what music she likes she would look you back in the eye and say "I do not listen to music" and she doesn't. She just. Doesn't. I feel like the only thing she listens to is like weapon sharpening asmr. The only exception to this is that she once heard some of shadowheart's edgelord music and vibed hard but doesn't care enough to look it up for herself. (I made this headcanon a while ago without knowing Devora Wilde literally made a character playlist for Lae'zel that had zero songs bc she has better things to do ehoevoeovegoeg)

Gale: caught in the strange overlap between classical music lover, theater kid and literally just listening to whatever the radio is playing. He has a piano canonly idk if he actually. Plays it but he really likes piano music anyway. Stuff that sharpens the mind for study is always welcome. The theater kid comes out to play when he is home alone and/or has Wyll over and gets to scream along to phantom of the opera. He'd be a Cats defender and I'll say that with my chest

Wyll: DAD MUSIC. Like exclusively 70s/80s rock. Crying to American Pie or Carry on Wayward Son is a borderline weekly ritual for this man. Devout Kansas listener. Listens to metal on bad days but the only metal band he knows is black sabbath. Could probably play the thunderstruck guitar solo by ear if he ever deigned to learn guitar. Queen Stan until the day he leaves this earth

Astarion: kinda all over the place. He brags about listening to classical but that's only like 50% of what he really listens to. He likes music from ballets like swan lake. For not classical it's generally chill music from like the 50s/60s and then like 80s ballads. Loves Billy Joel

Halsin: I want to say asmr guy who listens to nature sounds but I don't think he'd own a device with which to play them and he'd rather just go listen to real birds anyway. Most of the songs he knows are folk songs he's picked up and he's more then content with his own renditions being the only ones he hears. Owns an ancient record player he never uses and a bunch of old vinyls the others are constantly trying to buy off him because they're super valuable, I'm talking vintage Frank Sinatra and shit

Minthara: okay two possibilities. She is either with Lae'zel in the club of just does not listen to music, like she just does not. The alternative option is that she's really into metal culture, like she casually talks about her favorite niche black metal group that no one else has ever heard of. Probably classically trained on like 5 instruments as well

ksxjsodkwkkd i have had a post abt their music tastes sitting in my drafts for months so i will just share that!! my own music is kind of limited bc i just listen to the same stuff over & over (bc neurodivergent™️) so!! my apolocheese for this not being as super in depth for some of the gang vs others. i am also open to suggestions ;_; a couple of these were from me talking with a pal, mainly astrid & fishlegs (@despiteherself hiiiii!!!!)

hiccup: lots of indie stuff, leaning more towards indie folk!! he likes anything rlly with strings involved. he's a dragonboy horsegirl at heart & wants to imagine riding through the air with winds blowing through his hair & wistfully wishing he could have a different life. he does listen to indie pop, too. he liked glass animals before they were popular & wants everyone to know it. also loves woodkid.

astrid: she has 5 songs she listens to & they were just songs ppl recommended to her. she only goes out of her way to listen to music if she's at the gym & doesn't want to talk to anyone (if snotlout is there it does not work </3) tuffnut told her "you should listen to mac miller" & she picked a single song & just made it a song she listens to. every single other song she's ever heard is inflicted upon her when she's in the car, at work, etc & her friends have their stuff. she's content with that

fishlegs: everything & anything u could possibly think of. it's all put together on one giant playlist. u will hear 1940s jazz followed by georgian chants followed by sam smith followed by power metal followed by edm & it just keeps going. knows the words to every song he ever hears. any genre, any language!! collects vinyl, tapes, cds, YOU NAME IT!!! very passionate abt music!!!!!!

snotlout: 2000s & 2010s pop & edm, duchess by fergie is one of his fave albums ever. loves lady gaga. everything else is dad rock. 80s thrash metal, nu metal, & 90s grunge, mostly. he wants to be cool so so bad, he wants to be a rockstar. learns to play guitar & is annoying abt it (can shred p well tho). is the reason everyone in the friend group has at least ONE slipknot song on their individual playlists

ruffnut: grunge, hip hop, rap, & house music. lots of in this moment & garbage. big kendrick lamar fan. lots of late 80s to early 00s for rap & hip hop. she likes to groove & vibe, occasionally headbang. i think she'd love mary j blige too. i think she, outside of everything listed, has a soft spot for p!nk & listens to her when she's having a hard time (her & snotlout sometimes listen together). i think she'd also enjoy billie holiday on a quiet day & no one is around. (she is not embarrassed by it ay all, she just likes having things for herself)

tuffnut: grunge, 70s soft rock, hip hop, & rap!!! lots of overlap with ruff but obv there's also a lot of differences!! the 70s soft rock is the main outlier. he enjoys cruising around & being wistful as he listens to america, doobie brothers, seals & croft, etc. he puts pop country on his playlists as a joke but it ends up stuck in everyone's heads & smth they all jam to to have fun.

there is a massive group playlist (fishlegs is the one who puts it together but will add a song if suggested) & it is a cacophony of so much shit. they all have their tastes but by the time they're adults they all know each other's songs & sing/jam along & have a fucking blast, esp in the car or at the sanctuary. the playlist is always on shuffle & there is the chance for a rickroll. always

songs that tend to get repeated by the group are psychosocial (slipknot), custer (slipknot), anything by pitbull, fire water burn (bloodhound gang), bbc (jaboukie), anything by woodkid, somebody i used to know (gotye), & anything by they might be giants & other assorted meme songs they love torturing each other with. (they are the most obnoxious group alive)

an AFTG headcannon:

Dan makes the team take turns during workouts at the gym to put their liked songs on shuffled play for everyone so that they can share their music taste with the rest of the group. everyone agrees because it makes the entire thing far more interesting

so they go in team order

first it’s Dan who unsurprisingly hits shuffle to ‘What Does The Fox Say’ followed by ‘Bad Case of Loving You’ (which she danced with Matt to and is now one of her favourites) no one’s surprised by either song or the way Matt and Dan start shouting the lyrics.

then it’s Kevin’s turn. he hits shuffle to ‘Achilles Come Down’ and some Bastille like ‘Icarus’ and ‘Pompeii’ with a mix of ‘Greek God’ thrown in there too. being a history nerd it’s pretty much expected and no one blinks an eye just gets straight to work.

after that comes Andrew. so the whole group being snoopy as hell watches him unlock his phone to hit shuffle (his wallpapers are really cursed photos of neil and the cats, blurred and everything) and what comes on is Katy Perry’s ‘Hot and Cold’. he sets his phone down, it blasts through the speakers, he picks up his jump rope and starts working out, everyone’s staring, Neil’s looking at his phone trying to determine if it’s broken. after the song’s over Taylor Swift appears and Andrew’s mouthing along every line. they’re all shocked.

Matt unsurprisingly has a mixture of guilty-pleasure rap and rock music and some low vibe tunes. ‘Chill’ comes on and everyone’s enjoying themselves and then a complete opposite genre hits and you have Panic! At The Disco’s ‘House of Memories’ blaring and everyone’s scrambling at the phone to turn it the hell down. Then it’s ‘Beggin’’ and everyone’s rocking out to the classic and in general they find Matt’s taste pretty chill.

so then it’s Aaron’s turn. Aaron somehow has the gayest taste because half his songs are Troye Sivan and the other half are genuinely good also. but everyone’s caught off guard as Wannabe by Spice Girls comes on. Aaron’s eyes go wide in panic, he leaps for his phone. Nicky snatches it and Aaron chases him around the room as it plays shouting protests no one believes that Katelyn added it not him.

Seth (rip but we’ll include him) is completely unsurprising. half his songs are rock, the other half are EDM, all of them are men swearing into the microphone for half an hour, all of his liked songs are labelled E for explicit. they listen to ‘YEAH RIGHT’ and ‘Parents’ and other shit that Andrew completely vibes with too but refuses to say and they have a pretty good time swearing their lungs out over the lyrics.

so Allison’s next. she follows her boyfriend up with a bunch of songs about how girls don’t need men or money, her songs are either pretty empowering or downright popular girl taste. they hear a range from ‘Cheap Thrills’, ‘Scars To Your Beautiful’ and ‘Bang Bang’ all in the 20 minutes they’re listening for.

after that comes Nicky. somehow his taste is less gay than Aaron yet he has a bunch of girly-pop songs and viral tiktok sounds and shit and everyone recognises each one in a heartbeat (except neil who’s oblivious as the day is long). you’ll hear ‘24K Magic’, ‘Youngblood’ and even ‘Slow Hands’ (which Aaron mimes puking to).

Renee is completely emo, half of them expected it, half of them are shocked. She’s got Lorde and Lana Del Ray on repeat, she plays ‘Royals’ and then ‘Get Stupid’ by bülow and everyone understands her better after the half hour is over.

then very lastly is Neil’s turn. most of its a bunch of old songs his mother would play (definitely a lot of Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Queen) and then the other half are just outright concerning. you have ‘Suicide’ by Issac Dunbar, ‘I Wanna Get Better’ by the Bleachers, ‘Sick Boy’ and so on and everyone’s completely worried for him by the end. Dan asks if he’s alright and Matt hugs him, Neil looks at them confused and over to Andrew who just shrugs.

overall it’s very successful, because they’re only mocking each other’s taste half the time and normally it’s arguing for three quarters of it over the music, so all in all more working out is done :)

Thank you for the ask! I loved getting a chance to think about them, they're not as fleshed out as they could be so this really helped me solidify some stuff about these OCs.

💍 RING — does your oc have any piercings? do they want any (more) piercings?

Eliza has her ears pierced, she has two piercings in each earlobe. She doesn't have or want any other piercings. Ezra has one earlobe piercing in his left ear, but nothing besides that currently. He had his nose pierced when he was younger, but he let it close up after one of the kids in his classroom at the time (he taught preschool) nearly pulled it out. It just wasn't a good idea working closely with unpredictable small children. Patrick doesn't have any piercings, and neither does Orlando nor do they want any.

🎶 MUSICAL NOTES — what type of music does your oc like? do they listen to music very often?

Patrick doesn't listen to music all that often, but when he does he favors instrumental music because he finds lyrics distracting most of the time. He likes a lot of contemporary classical and minimalist music, especially sparse, atmospheric piano, some soft jazz, lots of instrumental film scores, that kind of thing. Ezra likes a wide variety of music - he'll listen to everything from folk rock to metal to EDM to pop hits and everything in between. He's pretty much always got something playing, even if it's only in his head, and he often listens with noise-canceling headphones on at home since a lot of his favorites stress Patrick out a bit when he's trying to relax after work.

Eliza likes a lot of indie folk and pop, as well as a bunch of singer-songwriters - she's really lyrically-focused. In general, she'd rather listen to softer, slower stuff than faster music but there are some exceptions. She also ends up listening to a lot of musical soundtracks and pop because her oldest daughter, Annaliese is really into both and Eliza is a great mom who supports what her children are into. Orlando listens to music pretty much all the time when he's working but not in a meeting or on a call, and he's not at all picky about what he listens to. He's probably more fond of rock than anything else, but he'll add pretty much anything and everything that's catchy and has a good beat to his Spotify playlist and usually just keeps his likes on shuffle. He actually loves musicals, and will be the first to start belting along with a song in the car while he's driving the kids to school.

🐶 DOG FACE — does your oc have any pets?

Ezra and Patrick have an orange boy kitty (with exactly one brain cell) named Charlie and a rabbit named Cocoa that their youngest daughter, Finley, loves more than life itself. He's a family pet because she's only six and way too young to take on full responsibility for any animal, but she'd been begging for a bunny for years.

Orlando and Eliza have two dogs - a husky named Fiona and a golden retriever puppy named Delilah.

🎄 CHRISTMAS TREE — what is your oc's favorite holiday?

Orlando is a total Christmas fanatic. He just loves the entire experience - the food, the music, snowy weather up at their estate, putting up lights, shopping for presents, making gingerbread houses with the kids, decorating trees, just... making it an amazing experience for the whole family. He has the best time playing "Santa" for all of the Calloway kids (but especially his own) and goes all out. Glitter everywhere (that he promises his wife he will be responsible for cleaning up because she hates the stuff), boot prints in the house, "reindeer" tracks out in the snow on the lawn, elaborately wrapped gifts, letters from Santa... the man has no chill about Christmas and everyone in the family loves him for it.

Eliza's a New Year's Eve kind of girl. She looks forward to it all year, but especially after the stress of the winter holiday season. It's always such a busy time at work, then there's just so many family events and so much to do to make everything special for all of the kids in the family. She loves all of the family stuff, but by the end of December she's starting to feel a little bit burned out and is desperately craving some quality time just for her and her husband. Orlando always goes all out for them for NYE - they spend the night in the city at a really fancy hotel, go out for dinner at Eliza's favorite restaurant, they both get all dressed up and just bask in each other's company.

Patrick really loves Thanksgiving. He didn't have great holiday experiences growing up as a kid (his parents are... difficult and have always been super image-oriented, everything was done for appearances rather than enjoyment) so he's still easing into them and building new, pleasant associations with Ezra and their kids. But he loves Thanksgiving food and all of the family time with less stress than Christmas so much.

Ezra's another Christmas lover and everything he loves about it revolves around his family. He loves creating traditions with his husband and kids (they have three - Evan, Alexandria and Finley) and getting to spend tons of quality time with them whether they're decorating the tree, baking and decorating Christmas cookies, going ice skating, picking out matching holiday PJs and curling up on the couch with hot cocoa and a sappy Christmas movie, going to New Islington's tree lighting ceremony or spending evenings out at the Christmas market. He just loves it all. It's also his favorite time of year at work because the preschool and daycare kids just get SO excited and are so cute about it. He spends a lot more time visiting classrooms during the holidays because he loves getting caught up in their excitement.

🍔 HAMBURGER — is your oc good at cooking? are they good at baking? which one do they prefer?

Orlando's a fantastic cook, but he almost never bakes. It's not one of his strengths, although he could handle following a basic cookie recipe or something with the kids if one of them wanted to spend the day baking with him. Although he and Eliza split that responsibility pretty evenly, he probably does a bit more of the cooking in their household (it's about 60% / 40% in his favor) and is always happy to take an extra turn if she's not feeling it. He just enjoys it a bit more than she does.

Eliza's a really good cook, but baking is her one true love and she's great at it. She's been baking bread since she was a teenager and was gifted some of her grandmother's sourdough starter, she does really fancy birthday cakes for everyone in the family and is constantly leveling up her skills learning new, complicated techniques and recipes. Most recently she perfected puff pastry. She'd much rather bake than cook, if you gave her the choice.

Patrick isn't really a huge fan of doing either, but he's become a very good cook (because Patrick becomes good at everything he does, he's persistent like that). He hasn't bothered with baking because he really doesn't enjoy it at all. Honestly though, if it were practical for his family, he'd hire a private chef to cook on all of his nights but he just doesn't hate doing it quite that much.

Ezra is a really good cook, and likes doing it. He really loves cooking with their kids and always tries to find ways to get them involved in an age-appropriate way. He's fine at baking if he sticks to the basics. It's not his favorite thing to do, but he's more than willing to whip up a batch of cookies or brownies with the kids if they want to bake or have requested them.

Weekly update March 22, 2024

I’m still exhausted beyond words. I’m also on a bit of a spiral where I’m worried about the quality of my art and about my output, but it’s okay because I’m chipping away at old big projects still and as soon as classwork is subsided I’m going to try to learn a new skill, because any time I feel insufficient I learn a new skill so I can be better. Classes have been kicking my ass mostly but hopefully big things will be coming sooner rather than later.

I’ve been doing a number of drawings to time myself and update my comms. Turns out I’m a lot less consistent than I thought so it’ll be a bit longer till I get prices sorted out but it’s coming along. Also good chance I’ll add more on to it later once I sort out more things I can offer. My usual drawing style will be the main one, but I’m hoping I can also add the epithet erased style, the chibi dnd mini style I do sometimes, options for backgrounds, and eventually also music.

Problem with music though has been my exhaustion. The only music stuff I’ve really been drilling at has been bigger projects, but I’d like to just sit down and do a small beat as well at some point. Once I catch up with classwork I might try. I have been chipping away at a couple instrumental pieces, as well as the larger vocal cover and I did some lyric writing today for the two ‘finished mostly’ ones I’ve been sitting on. I did have to scrap and redo a character theme for the second time this week but once I have some time with a clear mind I can reroute that one and use the melody I wrote for the last draft. In development right now are an ambient character theme, a 16bit-ish instrumental theme, a Zelda medley, a song cover with Kyo, a small gabber song with no affiliation to anything, the two original vocal songs, one symphonic rock and one EDM, and a handful of others that I haven’t been actively working on. As soon as I have significant time I’m going to try to finish off some of them.

Once the music is finished I’ll have to throw visuals together for them too. I really want to put in effort to make animation rigs again but I don’t have the time or energy. I might do one for the vocal cover song since I could be reusing the character but I’m not sure it’ll be necessary. Once the cover is done I’ll storyboard something and decide then.

Comic is also still going, I haven’t had a ton of time to do thumbnailing/writing, but I should be down to the last scene. No guarantee I won’t have to add more after editing, but it’s getting there. Once that’s done I’ll try to post roughs of specific panels so it’s a bit easier to keep track of where it’s at. The thumbnailing is a big bottleneck right now because it takes a lot of brain power but it’s almost done. If I get myself together this next week it should be done by the next update. No promises though, I have a lot of classwork.

Last couple things, a good amount of my exhaustion is the result of insomnia, but I’ve been using that time to plan out TTRPG campaign stuff. I think I have some really fun creative encounters. I think I probably will try to write it out and find a way to release it, just in the interest of getting more people to play the anime campaign system (or whatever they end up renaming it to when the epithet erased version of the rules drops… eventually). I might throw together art for that too, but that’ll be a ways off, after the writing and encounters are done. Plus ideally I’d want the module to be available for free, so I don’t need to add too much anyway.

Last thing, as I mentioned I’m a bit unsatisfied with where I am with art stuff. I want to thank everyone who has been sticking around, I am trying to make it worthwhile for you too. But whenever I am unsatisfied with myself I need to learn a new skill, so I may be dipping my toes into pixel art soon. I do have that 16bit ish instrumental song I mentioned, that’s been on the back burner since January but I’ve finally been hit with the inspiration to finish it, and a little pixel animation would be nice to go with it, but that would require me to learn pixel art itself first, so I’ll try to do that in the coming weeks. Idk how soon though.

This next week will be primarily dedicated to clearing up schoolwork and fixing my sleep problem. After that I’ll try finishing up that cover song, finishing up comic thumbnailing, and finishing up that instrumental song, in that order. Anything else is a bonus. Will class work and insomnia get in the way? Probably, but I’m still doing my best.

Hazbin Hotel Songs Analysis

Aka Rei has a new hyperfixation and has to talk about it or he will explode

Since I basically grew up on Musicals (it's in my blood) and I do appreciate a hell centered cartoon/animation, of course my new fav is Hazbin Hotel.

Since the first episode I can't stop listening to the songs and well... my theorist brain is doing overtime. So here's a layman analysis of the music.

I will get to my theories about the story and such at some later point.

Let's go! Spoilers ahead, duh.

First of all: Sam Haft is a genius. Alex Brightman is amazing. And every character has a genre or at least signature instrument. And obviously a lot of my own opinions.

Happy Day in Hell

We basically get hit in the face with a classical Musical Number and get to know Charlie's dream and her musical style. Plus some small hints at Vaggie's background.

The music and the style is very reminiscent of Overtures from modern Musicals, which is very fitting.

Hell Is Forever

Already a callback to previous songs, but fast. Once Adam starts the genre switch to rock, which is Adam's signature style.

Before his guitar solo is a pretty nice reference.

The message is basically "Fuck you, I do what I want bitch"

Stayed Gone

Ah yes, the sexual tension /hj

The beginning is very rhythmical, controlled and straight (ha). Once Vox gets going it gets more swingy with repeated patterns. The quick parts show what a talker he is.

Alastor slides in and slowly takes the song over like in Hells Greatest Dad. Also the piano gets a bit more present once Alastor joins.

In the end Alastor completely took over.

It Starts With Sorry

At first this song seemed so random, but well. Now it makes sense.

When Sir Pentious starts singing, in the background there's a guitar mimicking snake Rattles.

Again a very Broadway song. I cannot get over that this again is Alex Brightman!

I love it.

Carmilla's theme is obviously Latin with a Spanish guitar. And Velvet's Hip Hop or at least something similar, not sure because not my type of music.

Zestials small part shows how adaptable he is.

Whatever It takes

Hopefully we get more songs with Zestial.

Again it starts with guitar, and turns into a amazing power ballad. It shows Carmillas passion and devotion to her family.

Veggies part on the other hand is so "weak". Which totally makes sense, since she is still so scared. We also get some hints again. In the background you can hear a kind of glockenspiel.

The duet makes now more sense. Daphne Rubin-Vega is crushing it, amazing voice.

Poison

Ah yes, the controversial song. Tbh stop, listen again and start thinking. Chill.

EDM seems to be Angel's genre which is so fitting.

The lyrics are heartbreaking. No, he is not glorifying his abuse, he doesn't know another way. Angel has given up, he is trapped. So the least he can do is have fun. He's already in Hell, so fuck it.

The last chorus. Ah! This is not Angel Dust, this is Anthony breaking down.

I know this voice! Blaine from Glee went to Heaven!

The style is so clean and fake, perfect. Also organ.

The lyrics are low-key petty. Also Molly?!

Such a dramatic song, very musical end of act 1.

Love the switch when Lute starts singing, again with rock but much more controlled than with Adam.

Emily's theme is also very mousy in the beginning.

The callback to Hell Is Forever is so nice, the harmonies though...

Out For Love

Heck yea! Carmilla centered song.

Very Latin and passionate, love it, still with a modern flair.

Tbh Carmilla is underrated.

Ready For This

You go girl! Again very Broadway.

Once the cannibals join in it gets more old-timey, which fits the period the Town is in. Really sounds like a cheery war song.

Rosie and Alastors dynamic is amazing, just two queer besties being their true self.

This song also gets us excited for the final battle and stills shows Charlie's anxiety.

More Than Anything (Reprise)

This was torture. Normally a Reprise is very telling, example Hamilton.

I was so scared for Vaggie. Still amazing song, good representation.

Finale

What an ending! I was in tears.

The little callbacks amazing, Lucifer being there for his daughter. Everyone supporting her now. It's really a perfect Finale song.

Vox and Valentino being gay and their usual self.

Alastor's part reaks of foreshadowing. No, Alturist is probably not his surname. And no, he doesn't really care about Charlie and Co, he is there for power.

Conclusion

Amazing music and storytelling. Perfect for the mental ill 18+ theater nerds.

The Living Tombstone are amazing! Listen to their music.

Looking forward to the next season.

5. Dawn FM by The Weeknd

a lot of hits came out of this album and i think it was for good reason! i love the disco and funk influences. i’d say he does it better than a lot of other pop artists and i recognized a sample from the edm group Justice so that was fun <3 I also really liked the story and song transitions! i remember crying on my first listen, anything about mortality just gets me tearing up istg

6. Laurel Hell by Mitski

7. Dharma by Sebastian Yatra

8. Sunflower by Briston Maroney

ok i haven’t listened to this one as much as the others BUT i can count on briston for solid lyricism and indie rock musicality

9. Copia by Eluvium

this was released in 2007 but was a huge comfort to me this year when i was stressed and just didn’t want to hear words or people talking. it’s considered “ambient” but it’s way more than white noise to me! consider at least giving amreik a listen #AMREIKSWEEP

What are the ROs playlist titles? How do they change in the future?

I thought you meant their actual Spotify playlists for a moment 😭 Added songs/playlists for the vibes I'm going for on what I think the RO's would have in their latest playlist(s). The playlists here are different than the Spotify playlists just so you know. //TW: Self-deprecation and self-loathing on Zeph's portion

Weylyn: He only has one playlist that was originally named 'Weylyn's Awesome Playlist'. Mind you, he was 10 at the time he made that and it was full of mainstream pop songs of the time. He changed it 3 years later to 'xD' and changed the songs to full of EDM like Skrillex and Zedd. The name was changed again 4 years later to just 'Biscuit Time' and the entire playlist was changed to local indie and alternative songs, and it hasn't changed again since.

Fleur: Like Weylyn, she only has one playlist that's just named 'Playlist #1'. It's surprisingly full of cutesy songs... for some reason. The name and content hasn't changed, and only more cutesy songs keep getting added because of Cooper's occasional recommendations. Just imagine this intimidating woman with earphones on and just listening to something like MAMAMOO's Waggy on repeat, and no one would even know.

Zephyrine: She has two playlists at max named 'Vibes' and 'Ow' respectively. The first playlist is of course full of comfy good vibes when she's having a good day and her main one she listens to. The latter is more of a vent playlist when she feels guilty for her SAD and just needs an hour or more to cry. 'Ow' was formerly named to 'it's your fault again gods above stop being so fucking insecure you pathetic bitch' before she changed it a year ago to what it's currently named.

Eliseo: I see Eliseo with just one playlist that just says "Fuck It We Rocking" and that would be his main. It was originally named "Screamo Time Bitch", that's just full of screamo music until he turned 15 and encountered pop punk and other genres of rock. Currently his playlist is full of pop punk and rock/soft rock music that dabbles in the emo genre just a tad bit.

Cooper: His is... questionable. It's only a single playlist simply named '😃' and hasn't gone through any name transition in its 6 year lifespan. It's full of hyperpop, some dark ones mixed in (something along the lines of Kikuo's Vocaloid songs), and this for reasons I don't even want to know. My man has weird taste, and I honestly vibe with it.

Ophelia: I'm sure this lady has a lot of playlists for certain occasions with varying genre, but her main one is named 'my go to'. It was formerly named 'favorite child' for a moment. The reason why it got changed is because she kinda felt bad for her other playlist children and didn't wanna show favoritism. The playlist is full of comforting indie and mostly chill lofi to help when she feels over stimmed or extremely anxious and needs to calm down.

Freddy: Oh I enjoy a wide variety of genres. Usually I stick with some kind of alternative-indie, pop, or EDM. One of my favorite bands is Red Hot Chili Peppers!

Chica: I LOVE music from the 80s, or has that vibe to it! Like workout music! Songs you can get your body moving to! Oh especially synth-pop and new wave type music! I love A-ha and Duran Duran! Oh! I also love a good musical! Little Shop of Horrors, Heathers, Sweeney Todd, they are all so awesome to listen to and I will be singing them all the time!

Roxy: I'm more into the metal scene. Screamo, post-hardcore, grunge, things like that. Avenged Sevenfold and Sleeping With Sirens are some bangers! I'll listen to Three Days Grace at times too. Alt-rock is also something I'm into.

Monty: I really like folk and jazz music mixed in with rock or alt-rock. Also swing music at times. My go-to band to listen to is Poor Man's Poison or Bid Bad Voodoo Daddy, but recently I found The Devil Makes Three and that band is really cool so far!

Sun: I usually listen to instrumentals or video game music! Things I can play in the background while doing things without getting too distracted by the music! Whenever Moon plays a game I'll listen to the soundtrack and pick songs I like that show up to add to a playlist. I really like the Bugsnax soundtrack and also the music in Just Shapes and Beats! I also listen to classical music from time to time, mainly piano like Beethoven.

Moon: I don't know... I just hop from one thing to the next. I don't care too much about what is being played. I'll listen to country, fold, hardcore rock, death metal, lullabies, EDM, anything really..... Though, I have been drawn to more uh... messed up music recently. Things with disturbing messages and themes, kinda like horrocore or something I think. Bands like Will Wood, Dr.Steel, and Creature Feature have been in my music rotary recently.

DJMM: As HARD as it may be to believe, but I like EDM haha! Electronic music has always been my favorite! Dubstep, electronica, House, EBM. Oh! Actually, I do also like industrial music! Which does have electronic properties to it, but it leans more towards rock and punk! It really is an aggressive style but in a very good way! My preferred bands right now are I Will Never Be the Same and Circle of Dust, but I'm sure it will change soon enough considering I was just listening to Celldweller a whole lot before finding those other bands!

Bonnie liked swing and jazz music along with classical. He listened to people like Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Though he would happily listen to other genres as well, but he never cared much for EDM that was way too electronic. Like he can stand Daft Punk but not so much someone like Skrillex.

Foxy, like DJ, is pretty obvious in his choice of music. He loved sea shanties, but would also listen to acapella. The Longest Johns and The Jolly Jogers were people he loved listening to because of how they sang sea shanties. He definitely did also listen to musicals with Chica though! The two of them would sing for hours, especially duets.]

On Music and Tastes - Tails Headcanon

I’ve stated this somewhere on this or the other blog, but Tails has perfect pitch. That said, he cannot play instruments to save his life, it’s not something that he can figure out. Part of it is how loud they are near him bothers him, but also he just can’t put in the time to learn an instrument when he could be building something more productive instead.

That said, he loves singing, and is really good at it. With the knowledge that all the games are canon to the Sonic Universe, he absolutely adores all the main themes and songs that come out of the games based on him and his friends. Humans making silly songs about them and their traumatizing adventures is a way for him to not only cope with some of the shenanigans that they’ve been through, but also a way for him to unwind.

Tails tends to adore non synthesized music, with authentic instruments. So Rock and Metal and other music of those genres with high energy are high on his list, though EDM and Club Music are things he enjoys too, because he knows the effort that goes into making every single last one of those songs.

You might actually find him singing or humming along with any number of Crush 40 or other Grunge songs.

"How did you manage to get out of the extra classes?" Denki asked me as we walked back from the school so our class could talk about the festival.

"I got a bunch of work done early, so it took a few days off of me needing to attend them. Plus today was english lessons." I explained and he hummed, leaning into my side more.

"The school festival is one month away!" Iida said as soon as we got into the common area of the dorms. "We don't have much time. We should start making decisions right now." I stood beside Denki, resting my chin on his shoulder while he fidgeted with Ojiro's tail.

"First we need to pick out a song, right? What should we do?" Hagakure asked.

"I don't know much about popular music, so I'll leave that up to you guys." Ojiro admitted awkwardly.

"If we're doing this for everyone, shouldn't it be a song most people know, so they could dance and sing along with us?" My boyfriend asked everyone and I nodded, seeing the point he had.

"It's gotta be somethin' with a good beat!" Sero said.

"Yeah! So we can get down!" Mina cheered with agreement.

"We also have to keep in mind that not everyone here might know how to play an instrument. Jirou and I and anyone else can help teach some of you, but keep in mind, we have one month to pull this off." I pointed out.

"I agree with Tsukare." Jirou spoke up. "So, with those things in mind, I think I know what would make sense. A hardcore four-on-the-floor club song. It'll be like a rave meets rock show. As for dance music, EDM would probably be the most popular. But you guys wanna play instruments, right?" She asked and everyone blanked. "Tsukare, little help?" She asked. I sighed into Denki's shoulder and walked over to her.

"Does anyone play an instrument? Bass? Drums? Keyboard? Anything?" I asked, everyone stayed silent, staring at us with blank eyes.

"Okay. Well, I'd say that drums are the backbone of any band. I'd take on the responsibility myself, but, honestly, I main the guitar, not percussion. Teaching a beginner to play an instrument while practicing myself would be impossible to do in just one month."

"Onryo!" Denki shouted and I gave him a thumbs down.

"No thanks! Bakugou!" The blond in question glared at me. "You accidentally admitted that you were forced to take music classes as a kid."

"Show us whatcha got!" Sero said.

"In your dreams, moron." Bakugou said, turning around.

"Right, I bet the drums are too hard for ya." Sero taunted him. Bakugou turned around, snatched the drumsticks and sat down at the instruments we had set up in the commons. He played a decent beat and looked at us.

"Well?" He asked, his eye twitching.

"Solid beat." I said while everyone else freaked out.

"Bakugou's gotta be our drummer!" Denki said and Bakugou scoffed, walking away from the drum set.

"Heh. No way am I making a fool of myself up on that stage."

"Bakugou, come on! Do it! If we rock this, everyone'll have a great time!" Jirou pleaded.

"Don't you get what's gonna happen?" He asked. "I'll spell it out for you. We're doing this because we want to let the other courses blow off some steam, right? But we're the ones who cause their stress to begin with. So we're just trying to make ourselves feel better. This is gonna seem like a slap in the face from the people they can't stand." He bit out, everyone standing in shock.

"Don't be rude. We're just trying to help!" Hagakure yelled. Everyone started sharing their thoughts but I stood back with my hands in my pockets, not wanting to get in his space at that moment.

"Yeah, that kinda thinking is what I'm talking about."

"You didn't help us decide, so you can't complain now." Todoroki told him and I bit back a small ounce of laughter.

"Doesn't all this make you mad?" Bakugou asked, looking towards Jirou and I. "It's not like we wanted villains to show up and ruin things for everybody. Why do we have to be concerned about how these weaklings feel? Stop trying to get on their good side! We're not here to make friends, we're here to fight! If we're gonna put on a show, then we can't hold anything back! Let's murder everyone in UA with killer music!" He hollered and I stared at him in disbelief. That took a turn. Mina and Denki immediately jumped into teasing him and I eventually guided them back away from trying to affectionately noogie him.

"Do you want me to get everyone back on track for you?" I asked Jirou gently and she nodded. "Alright! Back to business!" I yelled out, everyone looking towards me in shock. "Who here knows how to play an instrument?"

"This might help. As part of my classical education, I've studied the piano since I was just a little girl. I'd be happy to play in the band if you need me." Momo said and I looked at Jirou.

"I mean, we gotta have someone on synth for the dance music." She said and I nodded.

"Have you ever played on a six scale board?" I asked and Momo nodded. "Okay cool, I'll do a brief refresher with you on it so the scale change doesn't freak you out too much."

"Thank you." She said.

"Bass is my specialty, so now we just need guitars and vocals." Jirou directed.

"Okay. So does that mean everybody else'll be dancing?" Ojiro asked and I wanted to back away from the conversation and potentially get myself out of being on stage all together. However when I went to back up, Denki's arms came flying around my waist.

"Nope, you're apart of this."

"We gotta have special effects!" Mina cheered.

"Cool, I'll do stage crew!" I offered and Denki quickly vetoed it, Jirou also denying that request. My eyes went wide as Mina went into heavy detail with ideas. Kirishima, Midoriya, Uraraka and Tsu all walked in afterwards and we quickly filled them in. Until Tsu asked who would be singing. My brother and Izuku quickly looked at me but I shook my head.

"Doesn't it have to be you, Jirou?" Uraraka asked and I let out a sigh of relief.

"Guys! Not to brag, but I'm a pretty awesome singer!" Kirishima said before breaking out in song. Aoyama also did and I wanted to take my ears out from the note he held.

"I agree with Ochaco. It's gotta be you, Jirou!" Hagakure said and I was almost relaxed until I saw the look in my brothers eye.

"What about Onryo?" My brother intervened and I saw Mina, Izuku and Jirou turn towards me expectantly.

"I- I can't sing." I quickly got out, my brother rolled his eyes and Jirou looked at me as though she didn't believe me.

"Show us those pipes!" Kirishima said to Jirou and Hagakure passed her a microphone. We all stood in adoration as she sang a few lines of a song.

"Okay, back to instruments. We need guitars, I'm thinking two." Jirou said, quickly taking the attention off of her.

"Oh yeah! Pick me! It's so cool to play instruments!" Denki said while waving his hand. He quickly ran around and grabbed one of the guitars, playing a few cords effortlessly. "The guitar is the star of every rock band." He said, smiling and I couldn't help but smile watching him. "Babe, since you won't sing, I want one of those like stage moments, where we do a quick swap out and I toss you my guitar and you just jump in like it's nothing, that would be sick. Can we do that?" He asked and I hesitantly nodded.

"So I take it that means I'll be dancing originally?" I asked and he nodded. I sighed but ultimately agreed. I glanced over and saw Tokoyami playing a killer riff on the guitar. "Holy shit, when'd you learn how to play?" I asked him and Tokoyami bowed his head.

"Many years ago, but I retired my axe when I was bested by the 'f' cord." I nodded without thinking.

"Yeah, that's a tricky one when you're starting."

"You know how to play?" He asked me and I nodded. He gently handed me the purple guitar that Jirou brought down from her room earlier and I could already feel my hands starting to shake. I froze in my spot and stared at the ground. Hesitantly, I looked up at my brother with wide eyes and he gave me a single nod, silently telling me I could do this.

"Sorry, uh, spaced out for a second." I mumbled, slipping the strap over my head to rest on my shoulder as a precaution with my shaky hands. I took a deep breath and started playing the first thing that came to mind, a fairly intermediate riff that my Pops showed me after I conquered the dreaded 'f' cord.

"Very well done, Tsukare." Tokoyami said and I quickly put the guitar back on its stand, the anxiety crashing through my body like a tsunami. I quickly walked back over to my boyfriend and tried to find whatever comfort I could in his arms.

We went over everything we could think of until a little after one in the morning.

"Hey, just so you guys know, Toshi and I won't be there for the first day of practice tomorrow, we have something after school." I told everyone before we went to bed. "Jirou, could you send me any sheet music you come up with? I can use our parents music room tomorrow." She nodded and we all walked up to our dorm rooms.

Well, I followed Denki to his room, starting to feel completely exhausted for no real reason. I wrapped my arms around his waist and completely slumped onto his back. I could feel the vibrations of what he was saying but no clue what he was actually talking about. So I lifted my head and gave him room to turn around.

"You're exhausted." He said and I nodded.

"It's gonna be a very, very long week." I mumbled and he guided us to his bed, patiently waiting for me to elaborate. "Tomorrow Hitoshi and I are going to meet his birth parents, friday is just bleh, saturday's the party with a lot of people, sunday is Sota's party with even more people, most of which I don't know. Practice after school everyday and then next week friday is Sota's smaller family party and I have not properly prepared my social battery for any of it." I told him and he winced slightly.

"That just sounds exhausting." He said and I nodded.

"Please tell me you didn't get me anything for my birthday." I said softly and he gave me a cheeky smile. "You really didn't have to get me anything." I told him and he shrugged.

"I wanted to get you something." He said nonchalantly.

"I feel bad though, especially because you still haven't told me when your birthday is." He dramatically sighed and looked at me.

"Okay, my birthday is June 29."

"I missed your birthday?" I asked sadly and he shrugged.

"I didn't tell anyone, the only one who knew was Hanta, so it's not your fault." He tried to reassure me.

"We're celebrating it next year." I told him and practically face planted into his chest, his arms carefully rested around me as he laughed. After a moment or two, he tapped my back a few times, silently asking me to sit up and look at him.

"We should get ready for bed." He said once I was looking at him. I sighed dramatically and looked up at him through my eyelashes. "You need sleep." He told me and I pouted. "Do you want a kiss?"

"Yeah." I told him and he smiled before leaning over. He placed a kiss to my forehead, then my cheeks, the bridge of my nose, the tip of my nose, down part of my jaw. He peppered multiple kisses on my face until he pulled me into a soft kiss. I couldn't help but smile into it.

"We have to get ready for bed now." He told me, and I silently agreed. We got comfortable in his bed and I laid down on him, using his stomach as a pillow, my arms wrapping around his waist. He tapped my head ever so slightly and I peered up at him. "You sure you're okay?" He asked and I nodded, burying my face in his toned abdomen.

"You just, you make me feel relaxed and make my brain shut up when I didn't know I needed it to." I admitted, not looking up at him to save any embarrassment I felt. Opening up was still difficult and definitely not a forte of mine. I felt my eyes flutter shut and weigh down while his nimble fingers danced through my haphazard curls. "Good night, Denks." I whispered and felt the rumbling in his abdomen of him, presumably, returning the sentiment.

Thoughts:

I am a MOA at heart and have been since Run Away era. I am always excited for TXT releases, but I am also critical of them as I expect a lot from this group. They were my most streamed group in 2021 and 2023, I saw them live in 2023, and I have a dedicated playlist on my Spotify with local files of covers and songs not on streaming platforms. Safe to say I'm a diehard fan. However, this release made me feel mixed opinions.

The opening track is my favorite song on the album. TXT knows how to make an opening song that hooks you, and this is no exception. The song gives me 90s and 00s punk vibes. The vocals are crazy on this one, especially from Beomgyu and Yeonjun. I love when TXT does rock. The song blows me away every time I listen to it. Thank you, TXT, for this song. Sadly, this is the high of the album for me.

The title track is highly unexpected, and slightly disappointing. Somehow, CTF is an earworm. When I first listened to it, I was genuinely underwhelmed. Coming right off of Growing Pain, the hype was not maintained. It has a good 80s retro sound, and I really like the lyrics. It is almost too chill for me. Nevertheless, I cannot take it off of my playlist, very catchy. An easy listen is the best way for me to describe it.

Back for More is such a good pre-release. I was addicted to this song in September when it was released. Unfortunately, I overplayed it. The placement of this song is also kind of off-putting. Personally, I think it should have been after the more "edgy" songs of the album. For this reason, along with the overplaying, I always skip it. This song is still extremely captivating on it's own, and I am pleased that TXT got a well promoted pre-release track.

Dreamer and Deep Down have to be 2nd and 3rd place on this album, in no particular order. This is a slight high in the album for me. Here, TXT returns to sounds they have done in the past: R&B and EDM. I have been wanting this from TXT for so long. Interestingly enough, these songs sound slightly "off." Maybe it's the awkwardly high vocals on Dreamer that I cannot imagine being performed live, or the creepy, repetitive 'more' repeated in Deep Down. These are good songs, but I cannot focus too much on the details. Dreamer sounds ethereal and can put me into a trance, until the high notes in the chorus take me out of it. Deep Down gives me Can't We Just Leave The Monster Alive? vibes (a good thing), and is nice to have on a playlist, even if it is not perfectly executed.

Happily Ever After is a classic pop song, similarly to Happy Fools, but not as good. It has a really good pre-chorus and first half of the chorus, but once it gets to those la-la-las I want to skip. However, it's not as skippable as Ice Cream. It is rare that TXT makes a song that I want to skip, but here is the rough in the diamond.

I feel extremely neutral about Skipping Stones. It sounds like an anime outro to me and I cannot tell why. I know it will go hard in a concert setting, and I'm happy it is all in Korean (too many songs all in English). It feels like I should be obsessed with this song, but I am not. Maybe, it will hit after several months or once I see it live.

Blue Spring. Oh, Blue Spring, how I love you. I have had the live version of this song downloaded on my Spotify for months, so this song does not feel new to me. The live version is 100% better than the studio version too. I want to skip this song just so I can listen to the live version instead. This song would have been the PERFECT closer, but instead other songs come next.

Do It Like That and CTF English version kind of ruin the album for me. Without them, this album could have been a solid mini with some ups and downs. Instead, these two close out the album and it makes me feel sour. Do It Like That is not that good of a song to begin with, but it is so old at this point. It was supposed to be their summer bop, what is it doing in Freefall, that has a more alternative vibe, at all? I think Bighit just wanted the Jonas Brothers on the credits for the album honestly. And, even more pandering to the English audience, the English version of CTF is the final song. It is fine to include an English version, but why do they change already English lines to other, worse English lines? The original song had so much English to begin with. Extremely disappointing English version, and it makes me cringe that I'll have to learn these worse lyrics if I want to see them perform this live. I can't even hear Yeonjun sing, "I prepared to die..." or "feels like I'm on fire..." live. They took so much away from me.

Overall, I am somewhat disappointed with this release. When I take out the 3 English songs, it is listenable. I really wish they just made this a mini album, but here we are. Other than DILT, I don't hate any of these songs, so I guess it wasn't so bad.
