Apparently my best friend has never seen any of the How to Train Your Dragon movies, and I'm due for a rewatch, so we're watching them together.
We're about halfway through the first and there's two things that really stand out to me this time around:
Hiccup is funny. Like, really funny. (Sure, he's funny in the later movies, too, but there's something uniquely amusing about the self-deprecating humor of an awkward and lonely fifteen year old with absolutely no filter. It's great.)
All things considered, Stoick is actually.... a pretty decent parent. I mean, I've been reading a lot of HTTYD fics lately, and many of them portray him as this awful, domineering guy who doesn't care about his son AT ALL until he becomes "useful" or whatever. And watching the OG movie, especially from a more grown-up perspective on things, he's really not all that bad. Sure, he's not exactly getting any 'parent of the year' awards. He's a human, and he makes mistakes, but, considering the circumstances, he really is trying his best.

How you and Kirishima first met was simple:
Two different hands reached out for the last skewer that sat on the hot grill, both stopping in hesitation at the presence of someone else. You both stopped and looked at each other, an awkward laugh coming from you as an equally shy smile graced his lips.
“Lady’s first!” He grinned at you, his sharp teeth showing as he blushed softly, stepping back. “Go ahead, I’ll just swing back later.”
“Thank you.” You smiled at him, feeling butterflies in your chest as the cute male allowed you to grab it.
As much as you wanted to say something else, your brain short-circuited on coming up with anything. Part of you wanted to tease him and say he could take it, but you never pass up on an opportunity for food. Nevertheless, even if it was for a random cute guy. Plus you had spent the last few hours dancing and working up a sweat, you were sure you needed it more than him. As he stood to the side, you were able to pay and take your leave, waving to him as you disappeared into the crowd. One last glance was exchanged with him as you left him at the stand.
Tumblr media
Typically, you wouldn't go to many events if it weren't for the festivals or known shows; but this one faithful New Year's festival when you were fresh into adulthood had proven you made the great decision to attend the celebration. Events between humans and werewolves were often rampant during popular holidays, the New Year being one of them.
There were many people around with many great food booths to compare. It was only a mere coincidence that you two seemed to be craving the same savory treat, kabobs.
After the first time you two had met, you started bumping into him more at cultural events. You hadn’t told anyone that you had met with this boy. At least you were sure he was around your age, young twenties or so, but there was no mistaking he had a few on you though not too much. The more you saw him at these gatherings, the connection between you two grew naturally, and it soon evolved into a friendship. No one knew about this friendship and to your friends he was merely regarded as something akin to a hallway crush. What they didn't know was that you two had been seeing each other for about two years now, doing various things together as a private friendship. It was no surprise the once innocent feelings you had for him slowly turned into a crush each time you two met. Luckily enough for you, today was one of the days when you two could catch up and you were more than ready to see him again.
You bit your lip as you sat on the cut-down tree stump, one of the many things that made him complain. Something about humans defiling the woods by making modifications that didn’t need to be made. Oftentimes when you met him, he ranted about different things, all things to be exact. Even with his rambling nature, he had other sides to him. You saw him chill, you saw him happy, you’ve seen him angry and you’ve seen him annoyed. But the ‘mood’ he approached you with today was something different. It was… feral. In a way, you couldn’t explain it.
“E-Evening, Kirishima.” You smile up at him as he walks up to you, holding up the basket you brought for him. “I made your favorite, they’re still hot just how you like them!” You open the basket to show him the goodies, scooching over on the big seat to give him room to sit down. He was quiet today, stiff too. You tried not to show your concern as he picked up the bag and sniffed it. It was times like these when you could pay close attention to the way his face looked, admiring the roundness of his cheeks that complimented his sharp jaw.
Kirishima only grunts as he sits away from you, his quiet and fidgety demeanor worrying you a bit. Your eyes observed his statue that had a light sheen of sweat layering his tanned skin that was visible to the eyes, his brows scrunched angrily. His facial expression was one of heavy frustration even with how much he tried to hide it. Whatever he was trying to find using his snout appeared to not have been found, and he was once again on the hunt to find the source.
Kirishima proceeds to start sniffing again, this time pulling away to smell somewhere else. You couldn’t help but stare as his behavior was odd, flinching a bit when his nose led to sniffing around you. You tried to stay calm as he got closer, shifting awkwardly as you contemplated the right moment to ask about his demeanor. His breathing seemed a bit ragged too, his chest rising and falling as he avoided contact with you, even visually.
“You’re… in heat.”
If he couldn’t see the blush on your face you could certainly feel it.
“....what?"
“I can smell it, you’re aroused...” Eijiro responds simply. "And you smell really good."
He was still standing as he towered over you. He rested the basket next to you and didn’t move, his eyes dark with a glint you haven’t seen before. His hand comes up cup your jaw, his palm hot against your skin. You play with your sleeves as you grow flustered, laughing nervously as the thought of being in a lewd situation with the black-haired male starts to run through your head.
“Eijiro…” You start, looking up at him as he makes you look up at him by tilting your head up. You felt as though you were caught stealing from a cookie jar, hands covered in crumbs as you tried to hide the emotions stirring inside you that he could very obviously sense.
His lips spare you the process of trying to come up with something to say as he presses his mouth against yours. You felt something spark as he did, your hands that were once clenched at your chest held his shoulders, stabilizing yourself when he forces you to lay down on the large tree stump you sat on. You tried to keep up with his kisses, opening up your mouth to let him in, fearing the pain of accidentally poking something if you chose to let your tongue wander in his. You moaned as his tongue poked and prodded in your hot cavern, his hands moving to grip your thighs to spread them apart as he got between them.
You hadn't noticed how big his body was, being so exposed to it so many times in such a friendly setting compared to this one. You daydreamed about this moment but never did you think it would happen so soon. Your heart hammers in your chest upon feeling his lips move so softly against yours, caring even. You could tell that he was the skilled one between you two and his kind way of gentleness showed with his fervent kisses. Unfortunately for him though, you didn't nearly have as much lung capacity as him to continue this unbroken kiss.
One of your hands on his shoulders taps him as an indicator for a breather, the doting male taking the message. Your labored breaths mix with his as your eyes can't help but be glued to his in desperation. A timid mewl is ripped from your lips when his hands that once respectfully rested on the sides of your hips swoop down to grip the back of your thighs and reach behind you to squeeze your bum. Kirishima growls as the scent of your arousal heightens, his gaze darkening as he prepares himself to fuck you.
"I-I didn't want to pounce on you like this but you smell so good." Kirishima rambles as his hands start to grope at your clothed skin. You couldn't do anything but just lay there and take it, watching up at him with curious eyes.
His strong and calloused hands trail up your body to grope your chest through your clothes, the heavy weight of his hands bringing a rush of excitement straight to your core. Whilst he fondles you he successfully manages to slide closer to you between your legs, your thighs resting on his as he gets comfortable. You bite your lip feeling his hard length now pressing against your core, a taunting sensation between the layers of clothes that restricts you. While your hands never left his shoulders his hands happily roamed your body.
From when he was fondling you, he was able to unbutton some of your blouse, the top of your cleavage now exposed to him, and the beautiful light of the moon from atop the sky. You feel tightening in your chest as oxygen starts to run out from kissing for so long, your hands lightly pushing him away. He pulls away with a light growl that marks his excitement. Kirishima hadn't slept with humans often but had to remind himself that he had to be gentle…. at first.
"Do you want this, Y/N?" Eijiro holds your chin to have you look up at him. You lightly gulp in excitement at the feeling of his rough hands on your jawline, a more than ready nod coming from you.
"I want to, Eiji." You're not even sure how you managed to maintain eye contact after relaying that. Until now, you had only kissed other people but other than that it never went further. There wasn't much left to ponder about his experience in these activities, though. "Just be gentle, this is my first time, okay?"
He visibly portrays his shock at the revelation with a dropped jaw but quickly recovers by nodding his head in understanding. If anything, this is one of the best news he's heard in a while. Now it wasn't often that Kirishima thought about your sex life. When he did think about you having sex, other partners were never in the equation. Just purely you and him. Though on his part he was assuming your experience—it was just Ludacris to him that no one has gotten that far with you yet considering he could tell the way most of the males around you acted.
Those festivals where he'd watch you from afar and get a jealous flutter in his chest fell testament to this, later his anger fueling into pure neediness in the comfort of his bedroom. He'd be straight-up lying if he said he wasn't crushing on you hard. You were as sweet as ever, pretty with a physique that suited you nicely, a smile that he fell in love with on the first day, and god you always smelled so good. Even in times when he'd playfully chase you down and you'd try and push him away in embarrassment of odor, it was that exact husk that drew him in closer. The pull that made him want to pin you down and fuck you raw.
Kirishima grips your hand and kisses the back of it as he stares deeply into your eyes. "Of course, anything for you."
You softly sucked in a breath feeling his hot hand slip down to palm your sex, the sensation so very foreign to you. Undoubtedly he could certainly sense the wetness through your clothes, another animalistic growl coming from him. He palms you in preparation for his eventual fucking, skilled hands rubbing at your labia and then playing with your clit. Your body jolts at the pleasure you receive from that certain area, a pained whimper in desperation slipping from your lips as you clawed at him.
His deft fingers easily rubbed against your clothed core, determined to get you hot and ready for him. His eyes watch down in a predatory gaze as he watches your expressions for any behavior change, his pupils dilating in hunger as he watches your body open more and more for him. Once he's done pawing at you he presses his crouch right against yours, the heat and weight of his confined cock stirring a whimper from within you. You tilt your head back, hands still stuck on him as you pull him closer to your body instinctively. Kirishima wordlessly leans in to press more animalistic kisses to your neck, now utilizing his sharp teeth to nip and bite at your skin. He groans against your sweet skin as you start to grind against him as well, a revelation now settling in that you were impossibly sensitive in all areas of your neck.
Usually by now, Kirishima would've fucked whoever was underneath him into oblivion already, but he was purposely taking it slower. He needed to tease and punish you for not being his any sooner. To make him wait so long to get between your luscious and squeezable thighs.
"Eijiro," A louder moan encourages him when he roughly nips at the conjuncture of where your neck and collarbone meet, the sensation sending a hot shiver down your spine. Mixed with the friction of his heavy hips against yours you're shaking under him, eyes prickling with tears as an unfamiliar feeling starts to wash over you. "W-Wait—!" You try to tap his shoulder, the act has him unmoving as he himself already knew what you were experiencing.
Kirishima leans up to witness the pleasurable experience wash over you, greedily taking in the fact it was him to accomplish it without even having to do anything. In seconds he's gripping your jaw and having you look at him as he places another searing kiss against your lips. You're sloppily meeting him halfway there with no doubt that his tongue has all the right to overpower yours. Your hands are lost in his hair whilst his are impatiently ripping off your clothes ready to take you under the moonlight.
A line of saliva connects you two when he pulls away, the small connection popping when he licks his lips. Your mouth and skin tasted so sweet, that he'd have to remind himself to eat you out next time, preferably somewhere more romantic and private.
The male on top of you grunts as the cool air of the night hits his now exposed schlong, the naked member twitching at the sensation. It was a reminder that he needed it in somewhere warm and his solution was right in front of him. He groans once the scent of your fresh arousal hits his nose, it now being stronger than ever with your hot cunny in line of sight for him. You were a sight to behold, truly. Skin littered with his bite marks, a light sheen of sweat coating your skin and your pussy dripping in need for him.
"Do you want it?" Kirishima asks with a growl in his voice. You had just come down from an orgasm and he didn't want to rush you.
"Give it to me, Eiji."
He doesn't have the balls to play with you anymore and gets straight to it. He presses his bulbous head against your opening, rubbing it up and down your pussy lips as he tries to loosen you up. "Relax."
You bite your bottom lip and try to do as told, eyes glued to his raging hard cock. You hadn't seen a cock before now but you were a hundred percent sure this was the prettiest you have and will ever see. You shiver when he pokes his tip at your clit, the sensitivity from before making you squirm. Your eyes flicker up as you watch him spit on his cock for more lubrication, mixing the substance with your arousal and his precum to make it easier for you to take.
"I'm going in--fuck." Kirishima breathes out as he inserts his dick into your gummy walls, the squeezing around him has him reeling in pleasure. With no remorse, he grips the back of your thighs and presses them against your body in a mating press, a deep groan rumbling in his chest as your cunt swallows his cock in this position. He tilts his head back as he slowly and surely rocks the rest of his length into your awaiting cunt, the ecstasy he was experiencing had never been felt before. It was almost reminiscent of the first time he had lost his virginity except this felt exponentially better.
His hands nearly rip your shirt open to show your breasts to him, the restriction of your clothes around your breasts making them perk up for him. He licks his lips as your nipples harden even more at the attention. Your tits bounce with each thrust as he slowly tries to ease himself in, his excitement making it hard for him to stay patient.
Your breathy moans are the only thing he can hear and focus on, totally zoning out on anything around him. Everything about you felt too good. The way you wrapped around his cock, how your hands gripped at him, the desperation in your voice, and the way that you felt under his hands was intoxicating. Kirishima had been waiting for this for so long and he could finally have it, have you. With patience, he was able to start rocking his hips faster and deeper into your cunt. The lewd noise of your pussy squelching with every thrust encouraged him to do more, to fuck you more passionately.
His lips were busy marking up your skin not caring about the complaining you might have for later. Earlier when he was eagerly trying to take off your clothes he tried his best not to rip your clothes off but there was no guarantee his (kind) gesture came to fruition. That minuscule dilemma will be something to deal with when you both get there.
His hand dips down to mindlessly play with your sensitive bean, humming in satisfaction when it elicits a sharper moan from you. You're grinding your hips against his with vigor, body shameless in the pleasure it receives from him. Your eyes could barely focus on anything specific as the male you once considered a friend completely obliterates your cunt. Tears prickle at your eyes as you start to feel an intense sensation that washed over your body not too long ago.
"E-Eiji," You pant out, head lifting lightly from the wood.
Kirishima's head immediately lifts from your skin and looks up at you, you two millimeters apart from each other's faces. "You close, babe?"
You nod frantically and wrap your legs around his waist, locking him in closer. He groans at how well you're able to take him, the new position allowing you to take in his cock fully. He softly coos as you try to stick it out, a pained but pleasured expression adorning your features.
"Cum on my cock, baby."
The buzzing in your system doesn't die down, everywhere in your body feels as though it's on fire. You're engulfed in everything he gives you and refuse to let this moment go. Your body is raging with white-hot arousal as you come undone with the help of a few thrusts and his fondling. You groan happily as he grips your thighs and presses them against your body again, an unfamiliar swelling at the base of his cock forming at the base of his cock and slamming against your pussy with each thrust. You peek down to see the inflation, a bit of worry rushing into your system.
Kirishima cusses as he lets go of one of your legs and pulls out, his spunk immediately spilling onto your pubic area and pussy, successfully covering you in his load. You whimper at how much there is, some getting on your clothes and the already defiled tree trunk from the spillage. You felt yucky with all the sweat and fluids and felt like it was prime time to go to sleep.
You shyly make eye contact with him and let out a nervous giggle, happily welcoming an approaching kiss as he leans in to take your lips against his. You two gradually come down from your high, your body now slumped against the flat surface of the massive cut-down tree.
You two will figure out what you are later.

Fate’s Destiny ~ Chapter 10 || New goals
You somehow, not being able to explain it, had fallen into the Genshin world you know oh-so-well. You were no new player and had explored most of the nooks and crannies of the world. When you first had woken up in Windrise you wondered; it might be a dream, after all, you were behind your screen usually, and now- here? It made no sense, and the world was keen on keeping it that way.

Almost half an hour ago, Ningguang had walked into the room to inform you of Lumine and Paimon’s whereabouts. Thankfully, they hadn’t been in trouble and were still in Liyue harbor, searching for a way to find either a member of the Qixing, Rex Lapis, or you, until they were approached by one of Ningguang’s closest confidantes.
It was also Ningguang who informed you that you were currently in the infamous Jade Chamber, which floated at a nearly impossibly high altitude in the sky. Despite their vow to keep your identity a secret,  you chose to stay hidden from the workers and remained inside. This meant that you hadn’t witnessed the vast distance with your own eyes. However, the safety of the walls surrounding you gave little comfort after Ningguang revealed your location.
Neither Zhongli's reassurance nor hers would make you feel more at ease during your stay above the clouds.
While awaiting Lumine and Paimon's arrival in the Jade Chamber, Zhongli kept his promise by having you sit down and focus on the stories depicted on the silk tapestries.
Battles and friendships from long ago do not return your memories, but you now know why Zhongli and Xiao validate you so. In the stories, it sounds like you were close friends before you lost your memories. It must be saddening for them to realise that these moments no longer remain with you.
Ningguang interrupts the comfortable silence once more, “Creator, Rex Lapis.”
When you look up at her, you see your beloved friends by her side. Without a second to waste, you jump out of your chair. You practically stumble forward as you race across the room.
“Y/n.” Lumine wraps her arms around you once you’re close enough, followed by Paimon wrapping her smaller ones over hers. In this short time, you had become close with both of them. If fate would be kind to you, it’d keep the three of you connected till the end of time.
After a short moment, you remove your hands from Lumine’s back and flash her an apologetic look, saying, “I’m sorry.” You glance away with a feeling of guilt. “I wanted to come back for you but a lot happened. And by the time I could do something, Lady Ningguang had already sent someone to get you up here.”
Lumine’s lips curve upwards, “There’s nothing to forgive, so don’t apologise. Xiao ended up helping us a great deal.”
Paimon nods her head vigorously. “Paimon admits Paimon was scared when Xiao suddenly showed up and told us we were followed. Paimon thought we were going to have to fight another dragon or something, but it ended up being a simple misunderstanding.”
You raise an eyebrow. “Dragon?”
A chair scrapes against the wooden floor. When you look over your shoulder towards the source, you see Zhongli has risen to his full height. His expression is calm and unrevealing of his emotions, as usual. It’s a look that radiates power—yet is devoid of intimidation and threat.
He takes a step forward. “It is a pleasure to see you again, traveller.”
Lumine nods her head in acknowledgment, but it’s Paimon who responds. “Paimon is really happy too. Maybe after all this walking around, y/n is finally able to return their memories.” She turns to you with an encouraging smile and puts her thumbs up.
“We… talked quite a lot already,” You point at the silk tapestries hanging from the ceiling. “I haven’t been able to recall anything yet, but I understand my position better after a little history lesson.”
Paimon awes at the pieces of art you pointed out. She floats further into the room without much care of intrusion. “Is that you?”
You walk up to Paimon with Lumine following from behind. The little pixie had stopped in front of a silk tapestry that depicts Zhongli and some stone frog-dragon-thing that you’ve come to know as ‘Azdaha’. On the tapestry, you hold out your hand to ‘Azdaha’, a golden glow falling onto the skull of the beast and depicting you as a saviour of sorts. Zhongli, or Rex Lapis, or Morax—the names are a lot—is illustrated to stand behind you with his arms crossed. The tapestries aren’t detailed enough to show expressions, but the resemblance is certain.
Similar to Paimon, Lumine looks at it with interest and curiosity. Her awe is less evident as her eyes glide over the picture, always carefully hiding her emotions. She seems a bit more hesitant for some reason, slowly taking in any detail and new information.
And while you and your companions stand in front of the tapestry, Zhongli seems to have made his way over as well because he stands next to you when he starts to explain the history behind the art,
“Mortals have always had a fascination with the Creator. This specific tapestry demonstrates a power we used to call; ‘light energy’. It’s unlike any other elemental energy—something only the Creator is capable of.”
You look at the picture with yearning. Could this truly be you? Did you belong in such a timeline once upon a time?
All of the stories Zhongli had told you were magnificent, almost in a dramatic soap series kind of way. It makes it hard to wrap your head around everything. It’s surreal to have history depict you as such a powerful being, especially when you’re unable to deny nor confirm the facts yourself.
You catch Paimon staring at you. A nervous laugh escapes your lips. “Don’t look at me like that. I’m also unable to believe that’s me.”
Zhongli follows your laugh with a warm chuckle. “All in due time. For now, let’s take a seat. I would be delighted to answer any inquiries you may have.”
Uncertainty builds up in your stomach as you move in one of the four chairs surrounding the square table which is boldly placed in the middle of the room.  Because of its square shape, it has four equal sides, and thus no head. A design choice for a meeting table, a place where all participants would be equal, you suspect.
Lumine’s eyes are already fixed on you when you turn to her. She gives you a small nod as she settles in the chair on your left while Paimon takes the one on your right. Zhongli takes the only seat left and comfortably settles across from you.
Once everyone is settled, you clear your mind. The small gnosis groans as if protesting, and you clutch it tightly in the hope of suffocating the reverberating rumbles it releases.
Then, you start, “Up until now, I've worked hard to regain my memories with the gnosis, but without success.” It trembles in your hand. “It isn’t enough. And while I’m eternally grateful for your help and willingness to tell me all of these memories that I should remember, I know I’m running out of time.”
The room falls silent as you finish your story, “—every moment I waste trying to figure out how to unlock my memories with a gnosis that wasn’t meant for me, is another moment where my memories slip from me. I need to know why you thought the gnosis would help me, and why it isn’t.”
Zhongli brings the teacup from the table to his mouth. It’s a calculated action, as if he’s trying to extend this moment, which brings a newfound anxiety for the answer he’s withholding.
Once he lowers the teacup onto the table, he answers. “The gnoses were gifted by Celestia, but created from you. In its rawest form, the gnoses should be part of your lifeforce—your aura.”
The gnosis in your hands vibrates weakly when you look at it. Aside from the occasional surge of elemental power it seems to release, you haven’t felt a personal connection to the object ever since receiving it.
Why could that be?
“If I may be so bold,” Zhongli folds his hands over each other. “Your memories should have returned by now. The energy should have recognised its Creator. It is a similar concept to the ley lines, if that helps your understanding.”
Lumine frowns. “But…?”
“But if your memories are yet to return, perhaps the problem lies elsewhere.”
You think about Zhongli’s words. Previously, you had assumed all of your problems to disappear if you were to remember everything. But what if there was another problem? Could you have missed the bigger picture that caused your fading memories?
While you were more than displeased at this revelation, his statement seemed highly likely.
“You believe this because of my aura? Since only a few seem to recognise it?” You look from Zhongli, to Lumine and Paimon, over to Xiao—who remains standing upright behind his Archon.
Zhongli hesitates. “This is a possibility we should consider, yes.”
Xiao clears his throat. “Creator. Perhaps this could be because mortals aren’t able to comprehend weaker amounts of your energy. The traveller is an outlander, maybe they’re more sensitive to it as we are.”
“No.” You reject his idea. “I’ve met ordinary people who have been able to recognise my aura. Even if it was one, it’s unlikely to be an anomaly.”
Paimon puts her hands on her head. “Wait. Paimon is confused. Doesn’t this make the problem much bigger?”
You look over to the little pixie who is visibly distressed with the new information. The corners of your lips lift despite the gloomy situation. She cares about you—as do the others in this room.
Your conversation with Kaeya from the day before flashes through your mind.
“Why don’t you ask Rex Lapis himself? After all, he is the best person to seek answers from. As much as I love Mondstadt, I fear our Archon is as free as its people, so I can’t advise you to come back with me onto a journey to find the lost Barbatos.”
Kaeya's eyes had been fixated on the gnosis moments prior. You had wondered why he seemed so uninterested in it. After all, getting to know that gnoses exist and seeing one right in front of him should stir some feelings in him. Regardless of those being positive or negative.
Perhaps in the grand scheme of things, it no longer seemed as potent as before.
In the past weeks you’ve been trying to unlock your memories through the geo gnosis without prevailing. Then, you spent a few hours listening to—what should be—your memories, without ever recalling them.
If the geo Archon can’t help you, maybe you should seek an audience with another one.
While it seems like a good next step in your mission to recover your memories, you realise how hard this information will be for Zhongli. He’d been more than willing to spend the next century reciting all of his memories in the hopes of your own returning. Unfortunately, you need more than stories to fix this problem.
“What about the other Archons?” You ask carefully.
Zhongli furrows his eyebrows for a split second. Then he purses his lips, carefully thinking about his next words. “You wish to send a message to the Tsaritsa?”
You blink. Had he assumed you wanted to reach out to the cryo Archon after your prior interaction with La Signora? While you hadn’t been too opposed to it, Lumine and Paimon had warned you about the Fatui.
Could you trust the cryo Archon?
“I was thinking about someone closer. A neighbouring nation, if preferable. Do you think Sumeru could help us?”
Paimon gasps. Before she can speak, Lumine interjects. “We have met the anemo Archon in the past. We could return to Mondstadt. It’s closer than Sumeru and we’re already acquainted, making it easier to find him.”
With your trusty cloak and the traveller as your aid, you will be able to explore the city without an uproar. In the worst scenario, not only Lumine would have your back, but Kaeya and Albedo too. Surely people would be more trusting of you with them by your side.
But…
Why would you cause an uproar?
Paimon continues, “If anyone recognises you, we can simply explain the situation to Acting Head Master Jean. After all, we saved Mondstadt with her. She’ll likely trust us if we tell her what’s been going on.”
Right. The aura problem.
What is wrong with you? How could you forget something you were just talking about?
You nod to yourself. “I suppose we now know our next move.”
Slowly, your eyes move up and shift over your companions in the room. Xiao and Lumine keep their emotions hidden behind a mask of neutrality, while Paimon wears hers visible with pride. Zhongli though…
The geo Archon remains silent for a moment longer. Then he speaks in a low voice. “What more can he offer compared to me? Barbatos isn’t—.” His tone shifts, but he quickly regains himself. He looks you directly in the eyes. “I know I would be able to offer more guidance. Liyue might not offer a vast abundance of knowledge on ley lines, but we have more than enough Adepti ready to aid you. Ones with centuries of experience, and centuries of memories with you.”
You look over to Lumine for her advice.
“In such a short time frame actions are better than stories. If you aren’t able to remember your past life now, who says you will after hearing more? If you feel like you’re running out of time, more Archons on your side might be better.” Lumine turns from you to Zhongli. “And while Liyue seems like a good place to stay, won’t it take a while before the Adepti can find out what is wrong with the Creator’s aura?”
Zhongli eyes her down like a god would to a defiant follower. Greed and envy fill his eyes, and the gnosis seems to groan in response. “And what do you think Barbatos has to offer over me?”
“A new perspective.” Lumine holds her ground. After a moment longer, she turns her head to you, ignoring the Archon in her presence. “In Mondstadt we will meet new possibilities. Maybe the Abyss order is involved like they were with Dvalin. If so, we will find more answers there.”
Paimon seems to agree with that possibility as she nods her head furiously in response. Xiao keeps his views to himself. The only tell he shows are his pursed lips and the words he keeps locked behind.
Mondstadt, or Liyue.
Or you’ll be putting your faith into an Archon with nearly no influence over his own lands, or you can test your time by waiting and hoping the Adepti will find an answer.
Both options sound like too much of a gamble, and yet—
“Can’t we do both?” You look up at your companions. “I mean, there’s no need for me to stay here and wait. I can go to Mondstadt while the Adepti try to help me from a distance.”
No more counterarguments are presented. It is the perfect middle ground for a less-than-perfect situation.
“Okay,” Zhongli answers in a flat tone. He forces a small silence into the room as he formulates a plan in his mind. Then he speaks again, “The Adepti will be gathered, and we will aid you.”
His doubt hides behind under his stiff and business formed composure, yet you’re able to recognise his true feelings without much effort.
He does not approve of your decision.
On the other hand, both Paimon and Lumine seem visibly relieved at your choice of heading to Mondstadt. Lumine has a visible smile on her face and her eyes are filled with newfound hope.
She leans closer to you, making her hair fall in her face when she tilts her head playfully. “Let’s go to Mondstadt.” She gives you her brightest smile. “Together.”Her joy is enough to overshadow Zhongli’s doubt, and so your own eyes start to shimmer with hope—Forgetting the consequences of your choices altogether.
Tumblr media
You’re quick at gathering your possessions once you return to the inn. The few belongings you own are all gathered in your hands. You realise you own very little to your name. The book gifted to you by Lumine and Paimon, pyjamas and underwear that had been bought on your travels, and a toothbrush. Everything else you used on a daily basis, was shared with Lumine.
In an attempt to fill the silence in the room, you ask a question that has been stuck in your mind for a while now,
“Lumine, Paimon?” Both halt their movements in favour of awaiting what comes next. “I never got to ask this in the Jade Chamber, but what happened after Xiao teleported me away?”
Paimon is immediately captivated by your question. Her eyes widen as if she’s recalling the events. “Yeah! Remember Childe? He suddenly got really mad at Lumine for no reason!”
Her tone is a bit too excited for her words to be alarming to you. You await her explanation.
“He started to pick a fight with the traveller, and because she already had her sword out, he immediately attacked. It caused a big commotion in the harbor and Childe only ran away once the Millelith intervened.”
Lumine adds to Paimon’s story while she continues to pack her stuff. “He had been keeping a close eye on me ever since I entered Liyue. No doubt, every meeting with me had been in his favour. But in all honesty, I think the Fatui has been keeping close tabs on me ever since Mondstadt. It didn’t feel like a personal thing.”
You hum. “I’m glad you weren’t hurt.”
“Pfft? Hurt?” Paimon snickers. “If anyone was hurt, it was Childe.”
Lumine disagrees, “If we weren’t in public, I’m not sure what would’ve happened. As a Harbinger, he has a reputation to uphold. Childe never used his full powers during the fight.”
Lumine continues. “But enough about that.” She puts her hands on her hips and turns to you. “You also mentioned meeting a Harbinger on our way back. I’m curious how your confrontation went.”
You avert your eyes. “I’d compare it to a forced diplomatic conversation instead of a confrontation—but yes.”
You cross your arms. It takes no effort to remember your conversation with La Signora. The deal between the geo Archon and the cryo Archon was truly peculiar. If you had chosen to stay in Liyue, you might’ve been able to figure out what this deal was about.
“There isn’t much to note, except that she was the mediator between the cryo and geo archon for a contract. I’m unsure of whether she felt my aura or not because she saw my face.” You hum, recalling the way she addressed you. “She did not seem to like me but she had no bad intentions either.”
Paimon perks up, “Paimon is just glad Rex Lapis was there to clear up any possible confusion about your identity. If it was Childe he might’ve tried to fight you as well.”
“Mhm,” You nod your head as you look over at the pixie. “And with La Signora returning to the cryo Archon, she might be able to help me. Who knows? Maybe that’s exactly what I needed.”
Lumine shakes her head, “Not possible.”
Paimon seems to agree with her. She crosses her arms and huffs once. “Paimon doesn’t trust the Fatui. They only ever fight!”
“Oh?”
“That woman took the gnosis from Venti–” She screeches, “And turned Paimon into an ice cube.”
Lumine carefully adds, “The Fatui seem to be after the gnoses. What guarantee do you have of the Tsaritsa accepting you in your current form when she won’t try to respect her other Archons?”
You frown. Your lack of information on the cryo Archon and the Fatui was making the situation difficult. Could you be making the wrong choices? And if you were, how could you trust your previous judgement of leaving Liyue?
”Do you truly believe that the Fatui has bad intentions even if Zhongli, the geo Archon, had willingly signed a contract with La Signora?”
”Oh.” Paimon rubs her head. ”Paimon forgot about that.”
”Surely he’d have the right reasons to do this, no?”
Lumine pats her travel bag a few times, making sure it’s secure before she slings it over her shoulder. ”While I understand your confusion and need for answers, I’m not sure if we’ll ever get the truth of that question. Despite Rex Lapis’ willingness to share anything with you, he didn’t seem thrilled to explain certain things in detail. At least, not with us in the room.”
She gestures to Paimon with her head. The pixie seems to visibly deflate. ”Paimon also felt like that.”
”For now,–” Lumine puts a hand on your shoulder in a comforting way, ”–let’s head to Mondstadt. It’s still early, and I’ve got a feeling it’s best to depart as soon as possible.”
You nod and place your belongings in the bag Lumine had prepared for you. ”I’m ready.”
”Paimon is too!” The pixie throws her hand in the air and races outside. ”C’mon! Paimon really wants to stop by some food stalls on the way.”
Lumine sighs and heads out of the door, trying to stop the small companion from leaving without you.
Your hand clamps around the gnosis. It is silent for the first time since you received it. No energy, no faint humming, no vibrations.
Nothing.
You pull your cloak over your head and take the first step towards Mondstadt.

Annnnd that concludes Round 1!
1123 familiars and 507 polls later, here we are! We've had some upsets (RIP Myosotis Fox and Noggle) and some close calls - and even one perfect tie! I want to say thanks to everyone for your participation so far - it's been super fun seeing your dragons, fanart, and impassioned opinions about pixel familiars. I'm going to take a short break (1-2 weeks) before starting up Round 2, so I can take time to get plenty of polls queued up. This is also a good opportunity to reset your voting brains - instead of choosing between purple bird and green bird, you'll now be choosing between weird matchups like sentient globe vs. edgy cat. Round 2 will include all 508 winners from Round 1, along with the 95 familiars that don't have a recolor. I'm also making a minor change in how I'm including new familiars - I was originally not going to include any new fams released after Round 1, but I will now continue including them in the bracket until the end of Round 2 (where possible). See you soon!

Malleus Draconia x Servant!GN!Reader Word Count: 1.1k+ Tags: Year of the Dragon/Mutual Pining
Art by D__elete on Twitter!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In honor of 2024 being the year of the dragon, I give you this! This was queued up so I am not actually awake right now... I’m sleeping or at work! I hope you enjoy, and happy Chinese lunar new year!
SUMMARY:
Malleus asked you to play a game of Hide and Seek with him. Who are you to deny him when he asked you so sweetly?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I wish to play a game with you.” Malleus’ deep voice curled through your brain as you looked up at him. The two of you had taken another night time walk through the castle garden. When you arrived at the castle to begin your work as a servant to Lord Malleus, you were fully expecting to wash windows and sweep floors.
And yet, here you are, taking nightly walks with him and indulging in conversations you wondered if he’s shared with anyone else.
The moon was out, sliced into a sharp crescent shape far above your heads as the stars gave off a dull glitter around it. “A game? Right now?” You parroted back with a puzzled tilt of your head. It wasn’t unusual for the king to request favors like this. Usually they were innocent, nothing you couldn’t handle. He would have you entertain him with childish games such as Tic-Tac-Toe, I Spy, and even asking you to challenge him in a Thumb War. You always lose. It  was an unspoken rule among the help that worked beneath the king. But you noticed the upset expression he would start to wear during your games, seeing that he had won again. Time after time again.
“Yes. This is our only free time together this week. Is that a problem for you? Are you perhaps tired?” He asked and the soft scuff of his heels against the stone path ended briefly. Although you were his servant, Malleus always expressed care for your wellbeing. But you were sure he was like that with all of his employees. Even if you were the only one he took nightly walks with and asked to play games with. “No, no, it’s just… Usually you ask me when the sun is up.” You expressed with a small shake of your head. You were not opposed to entertaining the king. “This game is best played when it’s dark.” A smile cracked along his usual stoic face, obviously pleased with your willingness to go along with his request. “I am sure you have played it before. It’s fairly easy to play, at least, that is what Lilia has told me.” Malleus appeared pensive now as worry rested in your stomach. The feared ex-general of the Briar Valley taught him a game to play in the dark? “It is called ‘Hide and Seek’. Do you know of it?” He asked and you started to relax. “Yeah, it’s easy. You want to play out here?” He gave a nod and a wide smile across his pale face. The king looked pleased. “Yes. I would like to seek for you. So please hide yourself well.” And with that, Malleus promised to cover his eyes and count to ten while you found somewhere to hide. There weren’t many places to go, but assuming this was his first time playing he wouldn’t understand how intensely some people took the game.
Ten seconds didn’t leave you with enough time to hide, but it wasn’t that you could make this too difficult on the king anyways. As you listened to Malleus count, you found a small patch of black flowers surrounding a tree with thick leaves. You hesitated before making the decision to climb the tree, hiding on one of the lower branches. You pulled your legs to your chest with bated breath. You were careful not to move too much as Malleus began to walk around the garden. You could hear him walk and stop, looking around for you in the darkness. He would mumble to himself as he went, looking quietly as you steadied yourself on the branch. He was getting closer and closer to the tree, but it was so painstakingly slow you could feel your feet starting to fall asleep. You wondered if you should drop to the ground and surprise him, either way he was supposed to win.
“Where did you go..? This game is much more difficult than I had anticipated…” He grumbled, now inches below you. You could see a pout on his face as he looked around. A smile was on your face and a laugh bubbling past  your lips. He looked up in shock, blinking with surprise as you looked down at him. “Were you worried about not finding me?” You asked from your perch in the tree. He looked down with a light red tint to his cheeks, mumbling a ‘yes’ under his breath. His eyes returned to you, and he raised his arms to help you out of the tree. “But that doesn’t matter now. Come down.” He instructed and you obeyed. You allowed yourself to fall into the king's arms, feeling his warm embrace instantly as your heart started to race from the close contact.
His arms suddenly wrapped around you before he pulled you into his firm chest. The moon bathed the two of you in a ghastly pale light, only for it to be shielded away by huge, leathery wings. “I found you.” His voice was soft, filled with a child-like exhilaration as he held you tight. Your heart thumped against your ribs as you relaxed against him, hugging back with a soft sigh of playful defeat. “You did. That means you won Malleus.” You were a little sad the game ended so soon. It was actually pretty fun seeing Malleus look around for you, looking so desperate to see you again. Is that how he looked when he wandered the castle looking for you? “That is not true, I have not won yet.” He corrected as he loosened his grip on you. You looked up at him feeling confused as his wings closed around the two of you, hiding both of your bodies from the light of the moon. “It is your turn to seek for me.” There was an excited glint in his eye as your eyes widened. Right. He found you, meaning you needed to seek him. “Alright Malleus, I’ll count this time.” You promised and slowly covered your eyes with your hands as he let you go.
“Don’t make me wait too long.”
The soft voice tickled the shelled whorl of your ear. When you pulled your hands away and turned to meet the voice, there was nothing there. Well, there was a bust of Malleus beside the stone black pillar you had stood in front of to count. Its eyes were sculpted shut, his chest puffed proudly, and a smile carved on his handsome marble face. You smiled at the old memory as you smoothed out a wrinkle in your wedding attire. You had yet to get sick of this game. Even after something as important as a wedding, he asked you to indulge him in a game of Hide and Seek. Even years later, playing Hide and Seek with Malleus never left you bored. You made your way to the courtyard of the castle, admiring the black flowers swaying under the moon as you passed the large windows. You knew that your husband was hiding there. After all, that was where he always hid.

Suggestions:
Browne, N. M.: Basilisk
Goodkind, Terry: Wizard's First Rule
McCaffrey, Anne: Dragonflight
O'Shaughnessy, Darren: Cirque du Freak
Oppal, Kenneth: Silverwing
Pierce, Tamora: Alanna: The First Adventure
Some of these are just the first of these series. To clarify, McCaffrey's The Chronicles of PERN is a sci-fi/fantasy series but the first few books are solidly fantasy.
hello! these are all queued except Dragonflight (and no worries about Alanna: The First Adventure! there are enough things on the list that I can’t blame people for missing something while scrolling through it).
to clarify my stance on Pern:
I have read all of the Pern books except the Todd and Gigi ones; I’ve read and listened to Dragonflight, Dragonquest, Dragonsong, and Dragonsinger more times than I can count. I don’t have my copies of some of the later books to hand at the moment, but Dragonflight and Dragonquest (as well as Dragonsong) begin with prologues that explicitly and unambiguously identify them as science fiction: Pern was colonized in the space future, the dragons are genetically engineered/specially bred (I’ll grant that the prologues are vague on this front, even if the later books make it clear) forms of native Pernese fauna, the telepathy is sci-fi telepathy (the original dragonriders are identified in Dragonflight as “such humans as had a high empathy rating and some innate telepathic ability”), etc.
it’s true that the present of narration in Dragonflight is a feudal-corporatist setting with some clearly medievalist elements, but this is in the context of a) the book explicitly signaling from page 1 that it should be read as science fiction and b) an explicit theoretical interest in the question of how the science-fictional future setting described in the prologue became this — how people forget (and rediscover) their pasts:
When is a legend, legend? Why is a myth, a myth? How old and disused must a fact be for it to be relegated to the category: “Fairy tale”? And why do certain facts remain incontrovertible, while others lose their validity to assume a shabby, unstable character?
from start to finish, all of the Pern books are science fiction, not fantasy, despite incorporating some world-building elements that are also common in fantasy. as I said in the FAQ, I will die on this hill.

CLUTCHiNG FOR YOU
Tumblr media
PARiNGS - ...Shu Yamino x GN!reader
MENTiONS - ...Mysta Rias, Selen Tatsuki, Maria Marionette
SUMMARY - ...when you planned the valorant collab, you really didn't think it'd get this intense. especially when the match point would have to be clutched!
READER'S PROFiLE - ...you stream a lot of fps games similarly to Selen and Maria. you play as Raze for this valorant match~ also somewhat flirty.
DiSCLAiMERS - in no way am i a professional writer, i just like english lol. please know that these writings are a work of fiction and are the appearance and persona of the character! not the person behind the screen.
Tumblr media
You excitedly and carefully clicked the "start stream" button and said hello to your chat and everyone else's that you're collabing with.
"Hi hello chat! And hello to the Yaminions, Mystakes, Dragoons, and Marippets!" you greeted, smiling.
"We're here to pew pew some teams~" Mari peaked up into the introduction, her small icon jumping up on your stream.
After a few minutes of talking with everyone, introducing who each person is and all, you queued up to an unrated match. Soon after, a match was found, and so starts the chaos.
"Ooh, Ascent, alright then! I'm going Raze, mk?" you say as the agent selection loaded up. Shu hummed as a response.
"Ahh, I'll stick with Sage for now," you hear the Chuunibyou doll squeak softly. Once everyone picked their preferred agents, the match was in motion!
Tumblr media
"There's two mid!" you say as you spot the enemy team's Reyna and Sage, carefully peaking in and out, awaiting them to push through. A purple eye soon enough was seen, you quickly shot it down and shot Reyna.
"Nice shot, [name]!" Mysta said, rotating to A after Shu saw two at A site. You hear a Jett using her ult before you were killed by Sage while pushing up behind the enemy team.
"Ah darn, Sage is at 40," you say, sinking in your chair slightly to get comfortable. Spectating Shu, you see him aiming carefully where the entrance to A with a marshal.
Bang! A loud shot rang through the site, then another, and another. You certainly have heard that the sorcerer was great with sniper, yet you didn't know he'd be able to snipe three people in a row.
"Oh my god that was kinda hot, Shu~" you playfully tease the man, though still complimenting him gracefully.
"Heh, it's nothing compared to how you play, [name]."
"Dude, what are you saying? You're just as good as them!" the sound of the British detective came into your ears.
"Shush! We've got a match to win!" the lunar dragon said, letting the remaining alive people know. "Save the praise for later."
"Damn, okay- SHIT-" Mysta cursed as he was knifed when rushing in.
"HAHAHAHAH THAT WAS SO FUNNY TO WATCH-!" you laugh, with everyone else laughing along. Certainly that round was entertaining.
Tumblr media
The match point round had started. With 12-11, it was not a wonder how Shu was the last player alive, with the enemy team's Cypher also the last one alive.
"If you clutch this, Shu, I will schedule an off-collab immediately to you," you say. "And I might give you something!"
"Hey! Let me come along too!" Mysta scoffed, you could practically see him pouting.
The figure of his chosen agent slowly walked to the other site, knowing that Cypher was at A site still. He was gonna plant in B before the time runs out.
The words 'Spike Planted' soon came up, Shu preparing his stance to defend the spike from defusing. When he heard footsteps nearby, he shot his ability just in front of him to temporarily blind the enemy.
Gunshots rung through the air, things were getting tense now. Hearing the sound of the defuse, he peaked around the corner quickly before running to the other door to fake his appearance by the corner.
One shot. Cypher was dead, the victory banner came by with cheers for Shu Yamino.
"Eyyy! Let's go!" the sorcerer cheered with you and everyone else.
"I'm scheduling this off-collab right now, just you wait, Shu!" you smile, laughing.
"Yeah sure, whatever you say. Now, another match we go!"
Tumblr media
You take a deep breath in and out, right before you were ready to knock on the door.
'What if he doesn't like the gesture..? Ugh, if he doesn't, things'll get so awkward for both of us... but I don't have anything else,' you worry. Thinking about the thing you were going to give Shu. Would be worth it? Maybe.
Knock, knock, knock! You stand back slightly, waiting for the door to open.
And of course, it opens. Revealing the stature of the real Shu Yamino, with his pretty purple eyes and silky dark hair.
"[Name]-! You really scheduled a trip to visit me?!" he exclaimed, his eyes dilating with shock.
"Hehe, of course I would. I stay true to my word after all. Which means..." you pause for a second, inviting yourself into Shu's living space. "I have something for you."
"Uh, first make yourself at home."
"Ah ah ah! Not before I give you this!" confidently, you swiftly lean towards his cheek, planting a gentle kiss there. Immediately so, the sorcerer's face turned a beautiful pink.
"Wha- huh- what-?" he rubbed his cheek where you kissed, baffled by your actions.
You giggle, amused before saying, "I remember that stream very well, Shu. Oh, and one more thing."
"Y-yes?"
"I love you, with my heart and soul."
Tumblr media
NOTE - uh so i didn't think it'd turn out this way lol, but here it is! this is somewhat inspired by another fic, and hey! maybe you'll find a random fic later too ¬‿¬
DO NOT: repost or copy any of @kuraitsune's works! sharing is fine with credits.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5
Tumblr media
A faint shuffling occurred in the distance as your eyes fluttered open. You were awake, and in your four poster bed. Your head spun for a second as the events of the previous night came flooding back into your consciousness like an assault. The Scriptorium. Crucio. The pain. Ominis helping you out of there. And… Sebastian had feelings for you?
You propped yourself up onto your elbows to sit up in bed, silently cursing to yourself as you did, causing your head to throb violently. Wincing, you caught a glance of the dark haired girl opposite you. Imelda.
“Well, aren’t you a late riser?” The girls thick scottish accent cut through the silence, and you groaned at the fact you’d woken up to Imelda. Although, she was in fact growing on you, despite your first few interactions with the girl being less than pleasant. Imelda had become one of the recognisable faces for you around the castle, you couldn’t quite stretch to saying a friendly face yet, but recognisable suited for now. You had become more accustomed to dealing with her abrasive and demanding ways, but at this moment in time when you felt like warmed up dragon dung, Imelda’s voice was the last thing you wanted to hear.
“Rough night.” You replied groggily, sitting yourself up fully now and swinging your legs out of bed. You noticed you were half clothed, and then quickly remembered that you actually didn’t remember getting into bed yourself last night. You flushed suddenly, the question of how you did get into your own bed floating around in your head.
“I can see that,” Imelda smirked, folding her Quidditch gear and placing it on her bed.
You paused for a second, contemplating asking your next question and how to ask it without sounding completely stupid. You needn’t give Imelda any reason to think you are less intelligent than her. She would take it and run laps with it.
“Imelda, this may sound odd but I don’t remember getting into bed last night. In fact, I only remember falling asleep on the sofa in the common room. What-”
“Merlin, what were you drinking last night? We all got back late and saw Sallow carry you back to the dormitory. Seriously, I’d stick to butter beer next time if you can’t handle your alcohol.”
Your face contorted into a horror struck expression, your cheeks blushing scarlet at the thought of Sebastian carrying you to your bed and everyone seeing. Merlin, that is mortifying.
“Sebastian, carried me back?” You managed to string the words together whilst trying to sound as normal as possible.
“Oh, yeah. The Gaunt boy was protesting but Sallow was adamant. They seemed to agree amongst themselves that it was best Sallow bring you. You’re popular, aren’t you? Already got two fellow Slytherin boys fighting over who gets to carry you to bed?” Imelda smirked.
You felt your cheeks blush an even deeper shade of crimson at Imelda's comments, and you quickly busied yourself by making the bed and grabbing your toiletries.
You hurried to the bathroom, having a quick shower to freshen yourself up after the horrors of the night before. Readying yourself for the day, you changed into fresh pastel blue robes and used a handy drying charm on your hair to perfectly style it how you liked. You begrudgingly asked Imelda for the time whilst she packed away some books, hesitant to engage in further conversation with the girl.
“9.15am. Still plenty of time for breakfast.” She informed you, and you headed out of the dormitory relieved at Imelda’s lack of commentary.
The common room was sparse as you headed out, and you assumed everyone was still at breakfast and relaxing considering it was Sunday.
The Great Hall, as you’d suspected, was a different story. You entered through the grand doors alone, and was greeted by a wall of chatter and a clinking of plates and glasses. Almost every seat was full and you immediately made a beeline for your house table.
As you approached, every single head seemed to turn to you. You felt their stares burning into your skin and you felt the familiar flush of embarrassment creep up your cheeks. You were eyeing for only one person, Ominis. You spotted him at the end of the table, drinking a cup of tea and you made your way around to join him. He was alone, which was a rare sight. Him and Sebastian were usually joined at the hip.
Stares followed you as you made your way over, and you tried to avoid eye contact as you seated yourself next to Ominis.
“Oh, goodness, you’re here. How’re you feeling?” Ominis greeted, startling you for a second.
“Yes, hello. I’m fine now, thank you. How did you know it was me?” You asked, sporting a somewhat puzzled but amused expression.
“Oh- erm,” Ominis stammered for a moment, an unusual sight to see. The truth was, Ominis had become very accustomed to your smell. He adored it, in fact, but he felt he couldn’t confess this. He feared how it would come across if he said “Oh yes, you have a very specific smell that I happen to love and it lights me up every time I even get a whiff of it.”
“It was a lucky guess, I suppose.” Ominis suggested, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
You lit up at the sight of food in front of you, and eagerly grabbed a piece of toast and jam, suddenly aware of how ravenous you were from not eating the night before.
“So, you’re definitely feeling better?” Ominis asked, after a brief sip of his tea.
“Mhm, loads better.” You hummed, swallowing a piece of your breakfast.
“Where’s Sebastian?” You tried to be casual as you asked this, but there was a slight edge to your voice that you couldn’t seem to completely conceal. You felt Ominis stiffen at your question.
Ominis hesitated for a moment, as if deciding how to string his reply together. He moved in closer to you, and whispered in your ear.
“He’s studying that dreadful book he found last night, in the Undercroft.”
“Oh.” Was all you could manage to muster in a reply. The fear and anger Ominis felt was evident in his voice.
The two of you continued breakfast making general chit chat, but were unable to dive fully into the conversation you needed to have due to lack of privacy. Around five minutes after you’d arrived in the Great Hall yourself, Imelda appeared. Her pretty face looked sterner than ever with her hair slicked back into a tight ponytail.
She situated herself opposite you and Ominis, you greeted her with a weak smile.
“So, no Sallow this morning, Y/N? Or are you rotating them daily?” Imelda smirked, buttering a piece of toast as flames rose to your cheeks.
“Imelda, it really isn’t like that.” You protested, quietly horrified and not daring to catch a glance of Ominis. To your relief, the girl chuckled, her stern expression softening in a manner that suited her features.
“You know I’m just kidding with you, right? Gaunt, what on earth did you let this one drink last night anyway? I’ve never seen someone so hammered.” Imelda remarked casually, taking a bite out of her toast.
Ominis stammered for a second, before settling for a small laugh as a response. You smiled along, it not really reaching your eyes as you continued to eat the rest of your meal in silence.
As soon as the pair of you had finished, you made it out of the Great Hall swiftly.
“You said he was in the Undercroft?” You spoke in hushed tones to Ominis as you made your way through the castle.
“I believe so, Y/N, if I’m perfectly honest I am downright furious with him. Most of all furious that he involved you in this. He needs to stop this, now.” Ominis said, his brows knitted together.
“Sebastian didn’t intend for me to get as involved as I’ve become, that was my choice Ominis. Let me go speak to him. He’s desperate to bring Anne back to her usual self again, surely you understand that?”
“I do, but he is meddling in things far greater than the two of you could imagine. Please, promise me you will not go along with anything he suggests. He won’t listen to me, he might listen to you.”
You sighed as the Gaunt boy pleaded with you. You knew he was right, but deep down, you weren’t sure that could withhold his promise to not indulge Sebastian. You found it almost impossible to say no to him.
“Okay, I promise I won’t.” You lied. You saw how Ominis’s face relaxed at your promise. A pang of guilt twisted in your gut as you started for the Defence Against the Dark Arts tower.
-
A cross-legged Sebastian sat on the floor of the Undercroft, Salazar’s Slytherins journal spread out in front of him as he seemingly studied every word. His face shot up at your arrival, and he scrambled to his feet.
“Y/N, you won’t believe what I’ve found!”
“Good morning to you too.” You mumbled.
“Sorry, good morning. Are you feeling better by the way?” Sebastian’s energy wasn’t dissimilar to that of an excited puppy. His energy was almost infectious and you couldn’t help the small smile that was tugging at the corners of your mouth.
“Yes fine, thank you. You, erm, carried me to bed last night?” You weren’t sure what possessed you to address this in such an abrupt manner, and you instantly regretted bringing it up feeling unbearably humiliated.
“Ah, yes. That I did. Apologies. We - I didn’t want to leave you on the common room sofa.”
You nodded and the moment lingered awkwardly, until Sebastian, noticeably redder, cleared his throat, ready to dive into a monologue about his findings in the Scriptorium. Frantically, he grabbed his notes from the floor and showed you eagerly, explaining something about a relic and where it can be found.
You couldn’t manage to get a word in amongst his excited and determined ramblings.
“Y/N. I think this is it. This is the cure for Anne, I can just feel it.” Sebastian finished his rambling almost breathlessly, his eyes going soft but full of determination and almost pleading as he looked at you.
“Sebastian…” You began.
“Please, I’ll go by myself if I have to.”
Your eyes flitted between his gaze, knowing full well he would and most likely get himself injured or worse. Merlin, you just couldn’t say no to him. The words you had heard spoken last night echoed in your mind.
And the idea began to simmer, did you feel the same? You certainly cared for Sebastian, that you couldn’t deny, but did it run deeper? At this moment, as you gazed into his brown eyes, you couldn’t quite say for sure. Inhaling deeply, you mulled over the thoughts swirling around in your head and tried not to go dizzy at how close the two of you were standing.
“Okay, okay. Just tell me where we need to go.” You blurted out. It was like you couldn’t stop yourself. The sympathy and deep gratitude you felt towards Sebastian was so intense, and you weren’t even sure where these feelings had emerged from.
“Oh, Merlin. Thank you.” Suddenly, Sebastian pulled you into a firm embrace, which caught you off guard and you initially remained stiff, until you eventually relaxed into his hold.
Your promise to Ominis thundered in your ears like a siren.
-
The evening sky glistened with a multitude of stars, as you made your way over Feldcroft, soaring under the inky sky. You landed gracefully, your stomach in knots as you saw Sebastian waiting for you. You’d been a ball of anxiety all day, mainly trying desperately to avoid Ominis. You didn’t want to have to lie to him or fill him in on your very unsuccessful conversation with Sebastian.
“Is this the place?” You asked, as you strode over to him.
“This right here, yes.” He commented, a hint of nervousness seemed to lace his voice.
The two of you entered the cave, trudging through finger-like vines and casting Lumos to combat the vast amounts of Devil’s Snare. Your breath materialized in front of you, the chilly evening air getting icier the deeper you delved into the dark cavern. Shivering slightly and hugging yourself, Sebastian came to your side and with the flick of his wand, an eruption of flames emerged, lighting a pyre hung on the stone wall. You looked at him, still shivering and he shrugged.
“Worth a try, least we have some light now.” He said, a hint of a cheeky grin appearing.
A warm glow now illuminated the room you found yourselves in, and it was clear you were not alone.
“Sebastian!” You called out, as a gigantic vile spider lunged at the boy from behind. He moved just in time as the creature landed between the two of you now. You blast it in the air with Confringo, followed by Sebastian casting the same spell, almost in indignance.
What the pair of you didn’t know was, that was the first of many. A horrible titteirng sound filled the cave, and before you knew it, you were surrounded by gigantic, eight legged beasts. A concoction of incantations later, and plenty of clever wand work and dodging, the two of you had managed to take care of the spiders unscathed. You decided it was best to move onwards quickly.
“Eight legs is simply far too many.” You shuddered.
“Agreed, hopefully we don’t run into anymore insects.”
“Spiders aren’t insects.” You corrected.
“Don’t start.” Sebastian shot you a playful look and you couldn’t help but grin to yourself.
For Merlin’s sake Y/N. You were in a treacherous cave searching for a relic of Dark Magic, flirting with your best friend. You weren’t even sure you liked him that way. You shook your head as if trying to shake the thoughts away, willing yourself not to think about that right now. Not thinking about how furious Ominis would be if he found out you were here.
The two of you delved even deeper into the cave, navigating crumbling stone walls and mountains of skeletal remains that made the hair on the back of your neck prickle.
“Sebastian, I really don’t think anything’s here. Maybe we should head back.” You advised nervously, as you seemed to head to a dead end.
“There must be something. I know I interpreted those pages correctly.” Sebastian uttered through slight gritted teeth, running a fist through his hair.
Your eyes scanned a mess of tables and clutter in front of you, and you saw it. The relic. You were sure that was it.
The energy that was pulsating from it almost made you feel nauseous, and a terrible sinking feeling engulfed your stomach once you set eyes on it.
Sebastian followed your gaze, his eyes narrowing on the pyramid shaped object.
“Is that it?” He gasped.
“I think so, but Sebastian…”
Before you could even finish your sentence, he started towards it. You lunged forward, grabbing both his wrists and stopping him in his tracks.
“Y/N, what are you doing?” He scoffed.
“Sebastian, please just wait. I have a really bad feeling about this. I don’t think we should take it.”
“What do you mean? You’re suggesting we came all this way in here, for nothing?” Sebastian frowned, and you still hadn’t released your grip on his wrists.
“I just, I don’t know… I think Ominis may be right. We don’t know the consequences of where this might lead.” You stuttered, trying desperately to sound reasonable and get through to him.
“You sound just like everyone else, you know I thought you were different, Y/N. I thought you, above all people, understood what I was going through. You let me perform Crucio on you, for nothing? Was it all a waste of time? Because you’re scared?” Sebastian’s tone was erring on the side of venomous now, and you weren’t appreciative of it.
“I understand, I really do-“
“Do you though? Really? To have lost your parents, and now your twin sister is in the most agonising pain every single day and no one is willing to help her. I miss her every single second, Y/N.” Tears were welling up in Sebastian’s eyes now, and you fought hard to control your own emotions.
There was a pause, as the two of you studied each other for a moment. You were still ahold of his wrists, a non-verbal beg of him not to move, not to reach for the relic. After a moment, you broke the silence.
“I don’t think this is the answer.” You whispered, your throat tight from holding back your own tears.
Sebastian scoffed, and pulled his hands out of your grip, backing away and gripping the relic. Your eyes widened at this, fear evident on your face.
“You know, and to think… to think I actually liked you, Y/N. To think I actually have genuine feelings for you, thinking you weren’t like everyone else. Just stupid…” He trailed off, walking away from you.
“I knew already.” You blurred out, this made him stop in his tracks - exactly what you wanted. You couldn’t let him leave with that thing.
“Sorry?” Sebastian asked, spinning round on one foot to face you again.
“I heard you, speaking to Ominis last night. The thing is Sebastian, if that is true - if you do like me, you have a funny way of showing it. I understand you want to help Anne but, at what cost to the people around you?”
All of a sudden, before Sebastian could even think about responding, a low rumbling began to shake the very ground below your feet. Cracking and shuffling sounds filled the room unpleasantly, as the walls began to crumble and the very ground itself seemed to be unearthing.
Your eyes watched in horror as a frail, bone like hands emerged from the ground.
“We need to go, now.” Sebastian ordered.
“You are not leaving with that thing!” You yelled, eyeing the relic in Sebastian’s grip, it now seemed to be glowing amber.
“No time for that now!” He spat, as he grabbed your arm and practically dragged you with him, a sea of Inferi now emerging in full form from the dirt at your feet. The two of you bolted, as you were running back through the cave you yanked your arm from Sebastians grasp.
“Come on!” He spun round and yelled.
“Drop it!” You demanded, raising your voice over the rubble and stone collapsing around you.
“Do not make me drag you out here, Y/N.” Sebastian growled, it was clear he was unrelenting. In that moment, Sebastian lunged forward and cast Confringo just over your shoulder, spinning round you saw that an Inferi had been blast backwards. It would’ve been inches away from you if Sebastian hadn’t have intercepted. He shot you a furious look, and you knew there was no time for arguing any longer. You followed Sebastian’s footsteps as the two of you hurried back the way you’d came, dodging a magnitude of stone and rubble that threatened to block your path.
The two of you emerged to an opening, a larger room where you had fought the spiders merely a few minutes earlier. The path you had entered was now blocked off, a pile of stone preventing your way forward. Your eyes laced with fear, you met Sebastian’s stare, his expression of panic mirroring yours.
“What do we do?!” You pleaded, as you cast Depulso at a charging Inferi. Spinning around, you cast Incendio at another, but it was no use. There were simply too many of them, you were outnumbered and completely surrounded.
“What about your ancient magic?” Sebastian yelled, after blasing one of the undead to the other end of the tomb.
“I can’t just use that at will!” You shrieked, fending off as many as you could, your arm beginning to tire at the amount of blasts you were dishing out.
“Well what the hell good is that?!”
The tomb was filled with flashes of scarlet light at the pair’s feeble attempt to fend off the undead, but as fast as they were destroying one, another two would emerge from the ground below them or even from the very walls.
Sebastian suddenly dived forward, dodging an incoming attack and made a beeline for the rubble blocking your exit. This wasn’t the best plan, but it was the only one he had.
“Bombarda!” He cried, and an explosion burst from the tip of his wand, causing the stone and rubble to explode into tiny pieces and clearing the way.
“Come on!” Sebastian beckoned, relief washing over him that his plan had worked and he hoisted himself up the ledge. You started towards Sebastian, firing blasts to clear your way the best you could. He held his hand out to you, and you grabbed onto it for dear life, but were quickly yanked back by a slimy hand grasping your leg. You let out a scream as the hand turned into something sharp, agonising pain shooting through your calf and up your thigh. Sebastian gripped you tighter, using both hands to try and pull you out of the inferis grip.
“Sebastian!” You screamed through agonised sobs, your hand fumbling in your robe for your wand that you couldn’t seem to find.
“I’ve got you!” He yelled, pulling you with all his might to no avail. Sebastian’s attempt to hoist you up only resulted in the inferi biting down on your leg harder. You cried out in further pain, your vision becoming blurred as your eyes were locked onto Sebastian’s in fear and panic.
The sounds filling the room became distant, and echoed as you felt yourself succumbing to the searing pain now rippling through your entire body. Sebastian’s features melded together, his voice fading into a silence.
Suddenly, the fiery ache ceased. A blaze of fiery blasts flashed before your weary view, and a rumble thundered through the catacombs and rattled you to your very core. Forcing your eyes open, your vision still blurred, you could just about make out another figure standing behind Sebastian.
“Let’s go!” A voice yelled. Quickly, you felt your weight being hauled upwards as Sebastian seized you towards him. You clambered onto the ledge, coughing and spluttering, still not completely aware of your surroundings.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Sebastian yelled. No one responded. Sebastian slung your arm around his neck and helped you to your feet.
“Sebastian, what’s happening?” You mumbled, desperately fawning to keep your eyes open but the searing ache in your leg was all you could focus on.
“For Merlin’s sake, carry her!” The same angry voice commanded, and it was one you recognised. Ominis?
Your senses seemed to sharpen, your eyes jolting open trying to focus on the figure before you. The dark blonde haired boy lead the way through another narrow, dark tunnel of the tomb, his wand outstretched emitting the familiar red pulses of light.
Sebastian bent his knees slightly and attempted to scoop you up, the relic still firmly attached over his wrist.
“No! I can walk!” You panted all of a sudden, finding your voice, gesturing to be put down. “I’m fine, let’s just go.” The searing pain in your leg throbbed dully, but it was something you were only mildly aware of right at this moment, adrenaline taking over your entire being.
The three of you pushed on, fiery blasts of red sparks and fire exploding from your wands. A horrifying growl caught your attention, an inferi was lunging at Ominis. You didn’t need to think twice. The spell was non-verbal, your lips remaining firmly closed as you blasted the undead figure into mere dust with a flash of familiar turquoise light. Ancient magic.
You gripped Ominis’s hand and sped forward, the end of the cave now close in sight.
You didn’t look back once, just running for the exit clutching Ominis’s hand. Sebastian wasn’t far behind. The smell of fresh, evening air hit you as you climbed further up, and finally, the night sky was visible. A hoard of Inferi trailed behind you, and you practically pushed Ominis forward and out of the cave, Sebastian in hot pursuit before you turned around and yelled “Immobulus!”
Every figure lingering in the entrance of the cave slowed almost to a stop, as if they were in slow motion. A wall of magic encapsulated the cave, keeping the monsters at bay. You weren’t sure how long it would hold for, you turned breathlessly to Ominis and Sebastian, about to speak. As you did, the familiar searing pain in your leg returned, and seemed to spread to the rest of your body like wildfire. You screamed out, your body collapsing to the ground and your vision becoming a foggy haze.
Ominis was by your side in a second flat, cradling your head from the ground and attempting to sit you up right.
“What is it? What happened?” Ominis panicked.
“It’s my leg…” You winced as you used the majority of your energy attempting to lean forwards to see the damage for yourself. The sight that beheld you wasn’t one you were expecting in the slightest. Your right calf was nothing short of mangled, a huge chunk of flesh had been bitten into and a black inky coloured liquid formed around the wound. It seemed to spread into your very veins.
“Shit.” Sebastian hissed, craning over to see your wound. “Y/N, I’m-I’m so sorry.”
Ominis couldn’t speak, his jaw clenched together and his face flushed in sheer anger. Panting, you feigned to keep yourself upright but it was no use. Darkness loomed over you, and an overwhelming tiredness pulled you in as you gave in and closed your eyes.
