Tips For Writing C!TommyInnit, From A Loser With Brainrot
Tommy is LOUD. Whether he's angry or excited or playing around, he's usually yelling. He is not aware of how loud he is unless he's specifically raising his voice to overpower the conversation (which he usually only does when he's angry at someone/thing, or to make a point). He's only quieter when he's serious, at peace, or very very sad
TOMMY IS SMART!!! He thinks things through when he has time to do so. He is strategic and considers other people's behaviors when he plans something out (ex building the tower overlooking the prison slowly, so Sam didn't get as suspicious, and making a point to only inhabit it when it was dark to be less noticed). Tommy knows how people act/think if he's familiar with them, and he uses that to his advantage.
However, Tommy's very impulsive, and his emotions overrun his brains very often. This happens the most when he's angry or scared.
Tommy lets people take pity on him 80% of the time. Unless it's a serious situation and he's trying to prove himself, (ex Logstedshire) he LOVES free shit and he very easily falls into the "oh poor little TommyInnit, he has no family to his name and is dirty and cold, won't you spare some netherite for his poor soul?" narrative.
Tommy is childish. He bickers over things that don't really matter and is the epitome of "he started it!!" when he gets in trouble. He also constantly nags at people until they cave to get what he wants. I have no idea how CC!Tommy plays being a youngest sibling SO WELL since he's an only child but that is exactly who C!Tommy is
Tommy is not brave. He hides behind people to avoid danger and he runs away from conflict if he can. The times where this didn't happen (Exile, Final Disc Confrontation, November 16th) were because he was backed into a corner, literally or figuratively, and was forced to fight back.
more under the cut bc this got very long lmao
Tommy is not very private UNLESS it concerns his past trauma. He will talk about what he's doing, every thought in his head, and what he thinks of everything he sees, UNLESS it's recounting what happened to him. Getting information like that from the source is like pulling teeth, even for people he trusts completely. The reasoning for this (best as I can tell anyway) is that he simply just doesn't want to relive it.
Tommy has a very black and white way of thinking about his allies. If someone helps his enemy, they are his enemy too. He doesn't really care about personal motivations or reasonings unless they're close to him (Tubbo) and he does not forgive easily.
However, he also recognizes power. When Tommy ran from Logstedshire, he ran to the person who killed his best friend because he knew Technoblade was very powerful against Dream. Another example is when he ran to Phil when Dream escaped prison and went after him, even though Phil destroyed L'manburg WITH Dream AND killed Wilbur, two things that Tommy vehemently hates him for. Tommy seemed to not be thinking very clearly when either of these events happened, so this may have been a purely impulsive decision made out of fear.
Tommy squirrels away his riches. He only breaks into his ender chest when he really needs the resources, ie diamond armor and weapons for a showdown. He actually has quite a lot of diamonds and gold if I recall correctly, but he still resorts to stone/iron tools and no armor in his day to day.
Kind of related to above, Tommy keeps momentos of people he cares about in his ender chest, where no one can reach them but him. He is terrified of losing these things because they remind him of when times were good, and he had people he loved. (This was actually said by him, I just don't remember the stream sorry ;;w;;)
Tommy is very stubborn. He doesn't cooperate very often and views the way he does things as the best way. The only time to my memory that he defaulted to someone else was when Wilbur was alive (L'manburg, Pogtopia)
Tommy likes maintaining his surroundings. This includes harvesting crops and replacing them, patching up creeper holes, and replacing missing blocks from his house or the Prime Path. He does these things without anyone telling him to, on his "down time" if you will, and doesn't really call attention to it
TOMMY LOVES ANIMALS. He doesn't like killing them and tries to eat carrots instead of killing for meat (although he doesn't seem to have qualms with eating meat that other people give him)
Tommy has a soft spot for kids/small creatures. He tried very hard to hate Michael because he was bitter about Ranboo and Tubbo's friendship but he broke almost instantly if I remember correctly. He fawns over "cute" things and gets thoroughly distracted from whatever he was doing if he notices a baby chicken or something
Tommy is rarely still. He almost always is doing something with his hands (ie building, chopping trees, etc) if he's in conversation with someone. The only times where he actually sits down and stops is when he's watching the sunset on his bench, or having a self reflection moment/processing heavy information.
I'll stop here, but I plan on making another post that more goes into his speaking mannerisms and whatnot. I hope this helps somebody trying to write C!Tommy, feel free to send me an ask if you have specific questions!!

if you're still taking hot takes: a large portion of "dsmp" fanfics (sbi fics in particular) are actually just rpf fanfics about the ccs in alternate universes that claim to be about characters because that part of the fanbase views rpf as inherently immoral and thus feel the need to justify their rpf fics by slapping a /rp label on it
oh my goddd this one fr like "c!sbi is an established unit and then they adopt c!tommy into their family" is the premise of so many fics and THAT IS CC!SBI FANFIC. C!SBI DIDNT EXIST ??????? STRAIGHT UP DIDN'T EXIST . WHAT. "techno, wilbur, and philza made up the joint unit of sleepy boys inc and they adopted tommy within their ranks" is literally what happened with the streamers in real life like my god people . and when did that happen in the canon server lore ... ? LITERALLY NEVER ??
oftentimes fanfic in this fandom just borrows whatever dynamics they want from either the rpf or rp side like. "c!sbi versus c!dream" where the entire Point of it being "characters" is so that they can use their c!dream caricature evil dude (who coincidentally behaves literally nothing like c!dream)--like i'm sorry but i was here in 2020 and know what sleepytwt was like at the time, yall aint subtle (even if you're just carrying on the legacy of fandom members before you and dont actually even know the history you're writing lmao.)

something that needles me about how people frame the c!crimeboys ending isn’t necessarily Just the idea that tommy learned a lesson from it somehow, but the idea that he Specifically learned how to stop being clingy or learned how to let go.
because regardless of how the ending was executed or what you think of it as a whole, that’s Not the lesson that tommy actually needed to learn. and more than that, it’s an uncomfortable take in its own right Because of tommy’s history as a character.
the point of tommy’s insecurity is that he Wasn’t Always Like This. he was Clingy sure, but in the way that someone with Friends is. he Became an insecure person through repeated abuse and tragedy.
through pogtopia, through exile, through the green festival, through doomsday, through his imprisonment, through his death, through the fall out after, through the loss of ghostbur, through dream’s escape.
over and over and over again he’s Stripped of his access to people, to friends, to his home, to his things. and often times made to feel like it’s His fault, through intentional abuse, through other hurt people lashing out, and through his own mind digging into that conditioning.
and that’s had a Clear and Obvious affect on him. he has self esteem issues a mile high and is desperately afraid of being alone and of losing what he has Because It’s In Reaction To Being Made To Feel That Way. in the same way that people who face starvation experience Food Insecurity (which is Also relevant to tommy’s experiences with exile for that matter).
here’s the important thing: logically, tommy still views people as autonomous. even if his feelings Were irrational (and sometimes they are) he’s continuously made an effort to try to stop himself from hurting the people important to him.
when he wanted to reconnect with techno he sent him an invitation in the mail to come see Him, and he never went to prod him after techno chose to ignore it.
when he was jealous of ranboo post-revival he asked tubbo if ranboo made him Happy, and when tubbo said yes that’s all tommy needed to hear. he was Afraid of being forgotten and replaced, of being left behind, but his problem Wasn’t being unwilling to give people space or let his friends live lives independent from him.
the Complicated situation is, of course, with wilbur. because their relationship is a beautiful mess.
but again: tommy doesn’t overstep or choose to pull wilbur to him against his own wishes.
Wilbur expresses a need to keep tommy close and tommy listens. Wilbur gives him the okay to rely on him, tells him that they need to stick together. Family, Blood he calls it.
and the thing about that is that he very sincerely means it, but he’s also terrified by it. because opening himself up to tommy also means risking being rejected by him. and he can’t handle the idea of tommy looking at him and not liking what he sees.
so he ghosts him. keeps him at arms length while still wanting to keep him Near. refusing to let him in but not wanting to let Go either.
and tommy Wants to keep a hold of him, but he doesn’t Force wilbur to do anything either. for all that people call their relationship co-dependent tommy rarely ever saw him, with months of time in between visits at the end.
and at some point in all of this wilbur decided he wanted to leave. he started trying to “wrap up” his relationships with the people on the server because he was going and didn’t know if or when he was coming back, and all the while tommy was still waiting for him to come to him.
what tommy needed to learn Wasn’t how to let go, Wasn’t how to give the people he loves space, Wasn’t how to stop being clingy. what he needed to learn was how to feel Safe and Secure in his relationships, how to Exist without being afraid that the rug was going to suddenly be pulled out from under him. which he can’t do if that isn’t True.
wilbur isn’t a villain in this situation, there Isn’t a villain in this situation. they’re two hurt and traumatized people desperately trying to make sense of the life they’ve been given and how to live in it. but if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times: this is not going to make tommy’s insecurity better, it’s going to make it worse.
because wilbur finally gave him a space where he felt like he could open up. he was the First person that tommy had ever been able to talk about exile in real terms to. and wilbur Cared, he cared So Much, and that’s more than tommy had ever had before.
and instead of returning the gesture he ghosted tommy for months until he left. and it was Chance that tommy caught him as he was leaving, tommy had to Pull the information out of him because wilbur originally Refused to say it.
if things had gone differently then tommy would’ve woken up one day and realized that wilbur was just gone for good. and it wouldn’t have been the day after, because wilbur had Already been ghosting him for months at a time.
people Should try to heal from anxiety and insecurity, but Sometimes anxiety and insecurity are rational reactions to someone’s circumstances. and the only way to reasonably Change it is to change those circumstances.
he doesn’t need to “learn” to just not be afraid anymore by having the thing he’s afraid of happening Happen Again, he needs Long Term Stability to Show him that things are okay.

hai!! im just curious on what your take is on c!ranboos enderwalk. thats a bit vague actually . like i mean what did you view it as? cus i know some people see it as morally grey, a different part of them entirely, etc. sorry if that doesnt make sense i just havent heard many people's opinion on it lol
ok this is a big and difficult question because ultimately we don’t have a conclusive answer in canon . so i’m gonna synthesize how i interpret what we do know.
i firmly believe that ranboo’s enderwalk state is, well, just ranboo. i think it’s a matter of what memories he has access to at a given point in time, how he acts on those memories, and it’s not nearly as black and white and ‘enderwalking’ and ‘not’.
there are things he knows, and doesn’t know that he knows, things he’s done that he doesn’t remember, and critically, he has relationships with people that he does not know about. it’s not as simple as enderwalking off-stream and not onstream, because we have examples of him acting on information he doesn’t usually have onstream and he has forgotten things he did while fully aware and not under duress (the shulker box deal with foolish, which he didn’t remember later when asked about it during the lessons stream).
it’s implied in some places that it’s a cyclical thing (in the arg, one of the pages refers to ‘the enderwalkers’ as ‘circadian’ (referring to circadian rhythms/sleep cycles)<-i think this is still sort of speculation but people tested it with the font layered over the crossed out section and it fit, arg also deals strongly with the clock motif, clock ticking and stopwatch as teasers for the arg, etc) though its also able to be triggered manually through strong emotions, pain, and fear. (splash water bottle, dream smile). Z claims uncertainly that it may be genetic, and their writings imply that ranboo isn't the only one though there's no suggestions as to where these other enderwalkers may be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it oftentime feels like while he's enderwalking he has access to more memories--though it might simply be different memories. he for sure has access to more information about his past (eg. he remembers ender entirely sometimes, while most of the times we see him on screen he's in the process of relearning it, or is at least much more subtle about knowing it.) At times he acts on fully subconscious memories, like when he built the cobblestone end city over l'manhole without realizing exactly what it was or why.
what i think is most important to this understanding though, is that he is SO consistent in what he wants and believes. the things that change are who he knows and associates with, and what he remembers. but ultimately, he has the same goal. he just acts on it differently. people not sides, stopping conflict, being a mediator, ‘one happy family’. these ideas are something he consistently believes in all the time. it’s the context that changes, whether he’s working with dream on the community house, or with tommy and tubbo to kill dream, or wilbur and hitting on 16, he is willing to take extreme measures to pursue these goals.
Tumblr media
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: i don’t believe the purple eyes enderwalk trope is strictly diegetic. we know for a fact that ranboo is visibly indistinguishable while enderwalking and not, as we have seen him ‘enderwalk’ on other people’s streams, and he has interacted with people ‘in’ and ‘out’ of the state without them recognizing any difference. (cphil, cfoolish, and cawesamdude as some notable examples)
TLDR: It's just Ranboo, with more, or different, or all of his memories.
(link is to a clip of c!ranboo saying as much based on the information he had at the time)

Oh btw in case anyone is wondering why I'm on the c!Prime Brothers Truthing train here's why bc I just realized I haven't actually talked abt it lmao
1. It's fun lol :)
2. Their interactions especially early on in the server have always had the vibe of two siblings trying to annoy each other to me lol. Their interactions later on have this vibe too but it's Off- One of them views literal psychological and physical torture as Basically That and the other often uses being Annoying as Shit On Purpose as a way to deflect from trauma and also as a way of maintaining some semblance of control in high stress situations :) The prison streams are a really good example of this lol
3. Exile in particular has the vibe of c!Dream trying to fill the big brother role for c!Tommy now that c!Wilbur isn't around anymore :)
4. c!Dream's whole "Big Happy Family" thing that he brings up a lot, which you could say implies that he longs for that sort of connection
So yeah it's a fun hc based mostly on vibes but it adds a very interesting layer to everything lol :) Also found family but it's Fucked Up >>>>>>

anyway let me ramble about my church prime and c!prime hcs a bit.
basically the church has a pantheon of gods- being a wildly syncretic religion it varies based on region the exact pantheon but most gods are those of life, nature, abundance, and fertility- those all relating heavily to important tenets of the religion, though not all gods follow that exactly. (for instance, drista is sometimes considered a part of the pantheon, due to her mystery cults being known to be friendly to church prime believers, and she’s a demon and a goddess of chaos and evil, though she’s not particularly evil herself). the primes were created by the gods after they sealed themselves away to protect their creations.
tommy is a devotee to motherinnit, mother goddess of life and fertility. he only discovered religion later in life- he didn’t know how to read and grew up in the wild til he was around ten-eleven. wilbur wasn’t faithful but the church where he and his family lived did provide charity service helping the injured and ill, which tommy was after years taking care of himself, so he tolerated a few visits so tommy could get help. tommy immediately fell in love with the teachings and values of church prime, and visited the church as much as possible. he named himself in devotion to his patron goddess, though he worships all the gods he knows almost as devotedly, and prays multiple times a day to them all.
dream was a devotee to xd, mostly because he and xd have a… complicated relationship, but by now he believes the gods have all abandoned their followers, and a new pantheon is required to fix the evils in the world. he is genuinely devoted to the same principles he was taught, albeit in a twisted way, and that eventually developed into the delusion he was becoming a god. the religion gave him strength through his lowest times, but now he uses it as a way to soothe his guilt, believing it’s all worth it for the benevolent god he wants to be. he still prays to the primes specifically, seeing them as victims as much as mortals are, and while he’s tolerant of others faiths he doesn’t quite get why people think gods care. the only persons faith he’s disrespectful to, however, is tommy’s, seeing his devotion to the gods as naive and needing to be broken to protect him and rid him of his destructive nature.
the primes are said to manifest as chat, but neither tommy nor dream have a chat. dream sees it as proof the gods aren’t caring, not making enough primes for everyone, while tommy sees it as a mark of sin, and views himself as an irredeemable sinner even before his trauma (hence his lack of self esteem). sam eventually built tommy the robot that is his chat today to help soothe him- it’s an artificial intelligence based off of tommy’s brain to give him a comforting simulation of something he so desperately longs for. dream finds this hilarious.

part one because it exceeded the character limit
Thank youuu for the ghostbur response. It read my mind (or my notesapp, rather)! I anonymized myself because I didn't know how ghostbur criticism would be received (since he is VICIOUSLY defended sometimes) but you share my opinion!!!I  think that Ghostbur kind of facilitated the polarization of Wilbur Soot after his death, especially for Tommy. In truth, L’manbur was no saint and Pogbur was no villain, but it’s hard for Tommy to view it that way after Wilbur’s down spiral and death. He would have already deified L’manbur because he’s already associated with much more positive memories, and Wilbur's drastic change in Pogtopia* would have left him a little traumatized at how different his family member/close friend had become, leading him to shift his focus more on happier times (and try to reclaim them, through trying to win back L’manburg and the version of Wilbur he seemed to have lost). Compared to Pogbur, L’manbur seemed like a saint. L’manbur began to symbolize that safety, that kindness that had suddenly “vanished” from Pogtopia Wilbur. And then, of course, that “new” version of Wilbur blows up L’Manburg and any hopes of reclaiming that stability. Tommy would not easily accept that the Wilbur who did all of this is the same as the beloved President Soot. *Pogtopia WIlbur’s change wasn’t that drastic, actually.  Wilbur was canonically a little unstable/stressed during the presidential era, but never opened up to anyone– especially not Tommy, who looked up to him. So to an outsider, Wilbur’s descent looked like an almost sudden collapse. But then Ghostbur is added to the mix. He isn’t L’manbur, not at all, because even L’manbur had suffered and grown as a result (Eret’s betrayal, etc etc), but he’s the closest thing to the Wilbur from the happier memories. He isn’t Wilbur BEFORE the suffering, but he’s Wilbur if the suffering never happened. And Tommy, having just lost a brother figure and been exiled a second time, isn’t going to try to make that distinction. When he or anyone else asks Ghostbur why Alivebur did what he did and Ghostbur can’t answer, Tommy relents– and at that point, Ghostbur no longer is a way to heal from Wilbur's death, he becomes a means for escapism. It’s not Ghostbur’s fault, he doesn’t mean to have this effect on anyone, but it doesn’t mean that he didn’t cause it. You hear this polarization in what Tommy tells Tubbo when they’re going to attack Dream for the last time (in the Final Waltz SAD-ist animatic): “ You know the OLD Wilbur? Let’s make him proud.” ...But there really isn’t an OLD or NEW Wilbur at all. Wilbur has always been Wilbur, yet everyone seems to subconsciously separate “L’manbur” and “Pogbur” into two completely different people. The Saint and the Devil. When Revivebur comes back, he isn’t L’Manbur OR Ghostbur. Revivebur is different, different from what Tommy remembers L’Manbur to be, and Ghostbur is gone because of his return.
Tumblr media
this is such a good analysis
i will say i dont think ghostbur ruined c!crimeboys, i think he was more of a symbol of one of my favorite themes in c!crimeboys which is change:
c!tommy as you mentioned does not like change, so much of his arc is surrounded by this air of things changing before he can really process them, and being forced to pick up the pieces, even though he wasnt the one who caused the change in the first place (this is where a lot of the parallels between him and jesse from breaking bad come in for me, because while he is not an innocent, he suffers the consequences of other people’s actions far too often, with barely anyone actually recognizing that he’s allowed to be upset over how unfair it is)
meanwhile c!wilbur wants change, but only change he can control. control is such a big thing for c!wilbur, and he wants to have control over as much as he can in order to protect those he loves, and often he has to change things to do this. however, change does not listen to someone in charge, which is the major struggle c!wilbur has, and often he creates consequences that tommy has to deal with (especially in the case of when he blew up l’manburg) and in the end, its not something he can learn to accept, and thats why its his downfall (this is a big part of why he blew up l’manburg. he wanted the change, he wanted the control over what he created, but the change wasnt the change he wanted and controlled
so this is the constant strife with c!crimeboys: they are always moving in different directions. c!wilbur embraces change that he controls while c!tommy tries to deny change because its how he feels in control. neither of them really have control over anything, but tommy is the only one who can really accept this, even if he doesnt want to.
so to me, this is what ghostbur symbolizes. he symbolizes the opposite of what c!wilbur is because he can never change, and he cant feel in control of anything. so c!tommy gets a very altered view of c!wilbur because of ghostbur and the way he allows him to cling onto a past that doesnt actually exist, and it largely symbolizes this constant fight they have. they’re brothers, but they’re destined to be each other’s downfall if they actually remain with each other

genuinely curious abt your tags on the housewife post with ctommy because i haven’t seen anything like that (also it conjured in my mind the image of ctommy in an apron baking a pie for a husband which was . rather entertaining)
is it about how people turn found family into nuclear family with for eg sbi or smth else?
so yeah srry if this is weird was just wondering if you wanted 2 talk more abt that bc i was interested :)
OH ITS MORESO LIKE i've always been really adverse to c!tommy just like. being shoved into a family dynamic, whether that be with c!sbi, or having shroud be her kid? Idk how popular the "Shroud is a child" headcanon is nowadays, but I've always preferred the idea of Shroud being Tommy's beloved pet that it just spoils the hell out of all the time yk? It's cute :3 But yeah it's always been a style of doing things that I'm not a fan of, just kind of shoving c!tommy into a family dynamic that hasn't really ever been hinted at? Like with SBI ofc it makes sense for her to be family with Wilbur because like. They're actually canonically related. But for Techno and Phil it's VERY obvious that they don't view Tommy as family yk???? Just weird to me that ppl try to shove tommy into family dynamics she's not a part of yk

Now, I didn't want to enter too much into critical and stuff, it is a silly ending and what not, but I can't help but unfortunately agree with some points some the critics are making.
So, Wilbur Ending critical on the way. Also Suicide topics mentioned.
If you 100% enjoyed the lore it's fine!!! I enjoyed parts of it too but there are parts that make me less happy. In the end everyone can engage with the media how they want and if they still prefer to view it as a stream they loved and was good to them they are totally valid in doing so.
I hate to make this about me but it needs to be explained what my relationship with C!Wilbur was and what made him on of my favourite characters of all time.
There are reasons why you might connect more with some characters than others, for example, despite enjoying the narrative of Exile and C!Tommy I couldn't truly connect with him as much as someone who suffered serious abuse in their life. I love C!Tommy, I can understand the C!Tommy to an extent, but some people they can see themselves in C!Tommy, in my case, at least for Exile, I cannot. However if there's a character I can connect with deeply is C!Wilbur.
With risk of sharing too much my family is known for having depression and anxiety issues. I very unfortunately have had family members killing themselves. I have an aunt who has a lot of panic attacks. I have a grandpa who had to stop working at 30 because of chronic depression mixed with PTSD. I have suicidal thoughts that I can't really stop and will appear very frequently and over the stupidest things. I can only make mental barriers to not act upon them.
When I looked at Wilbur I saw myself in a lot of ways, in the way that yes there were events that led Wilbur to suicide but he wasn't truly "well" his whole life and part of his downfall was his own head's making.
When Wilbur died in November 16th I don't think it romanticised suicide for me. It actually gave me encouragement on not doing it. I looked at the state that left the L'Manburg members and thought that was the same as a family destroyed by such an event. I also thought that if I was sad that C!Wilbur was gone and wanted him not to go that it meant that maybe someone will feel the same about me.
Another place where I felt so seen was with Wilbur's letters to Phil. The lying to your parents because you don't want to tell them you're not doing great. Because you don't want to be a burden, or because you don't to disappoint them, that's something I am familiar with unfortunately.
I loved Wilbur's portrayal of mental illness that felt so real. It had funny moments but it still struck in the themes that truly meant something.
This revival felt like a chance of saying "ok, you will never be 100% well, that's just impossible, but you can work to get better. And you can talk with other people and realise that your love for other people can be what makes you stay. You have to realise that you're not a burden on others and in fact if you don't want people you love to suffer you must try to get yourself better and happier." I really liked how after Wilbur got back things just didn't magically get good. That Wilbur didn't magically want to live. He didn't want to die because death was hell to him not because he felt like he truly found a reason to live.
Now, the ending.
I get it. I get it was a "escaping the narrative" thing. That it was a "Dream SMP lore was always silly" bit but here's the thing: Dream SMP was silly when it didn't matter. Like Sally being a fish. Wilbur's mother being a fridge. Those are things that aren't in the centre of the story and can in fact be ignored. It doesn't affect the serious themes the story is going for.
This ending however...
I absolutely loved Tommy's part. He touched in what needed to be touched. In a lot of ways this also felt like Tommy's second try. In Pogtopia he saw that Wilbur wasn't well, he wanted to do something about it but he didn't know what. He was a kid and it wasn't his fault but Tommy did his best. Now Wilbur's back and Tommy sees the patterns again, and he loves Wilbur. He knows that in the end of everything Wilbur would do anything to make him safe. And it's his brother at this point, and damn him if he won't try to make a person he cares for so much to be happier. To be with Tommy more and both have some good times. So he goes in again, and this time he gets to say everything to Wilbur! He recognises and he can truly say what he feels and how much Wilbur is hurting him by hurting himself.
And then Utah comes in.
For a moment the stream feels disconnected. Tommy is trying to talk about a serious issue, something that was at the centre of Wilbur and Tommy's characters, and Wilbur felt like he came from a comedy sitcom where you can just say the most outlandish thing to make something funny.
Some contrast in tone has existed in the Dream SMP before, sure. Even in reverse. Like when Wilbur was trying to talk about Fundy and how the situation made him feel and Tommy was making jokes. But in that time those actions by Tommy served a purpose. Tommy was trying to cheer up Wilbur. Ironically Wilbur was explaining Tommy why sometimes discussing something difficult helps.
This stream felt like the opposite of that. Tommy was trying to discuss something that not only affected Wilbur but also himself and Wilbur started talking about Utah. Tommy is asking him to stay and Wilbur is going, and I'm paraphrasing "I've made up my mind I'm going to Utah".
And why? Because he's fleeing the narrative? "He won't have to deal with people instantly picking aside" if he's going to the "real world" do I have news for him. His problems aren't going to be instantly changed by going to our world. I can guarantee that. He'll still feel like shit. He can still disappoint people he loves. In reality there's not much difference. What is he escaping exactly? In fact, I'm really upset to say this but you know how it actually comes across?
It comes across as the same as if he had killed himself.
Wilbur might say time and time again he's not killing himself but is there much difference? He suddenly went "far away" and Tommy might never see him again. Tommy is begging him to stay with him and this feels almost like the decision of ending your suffering but causing a bunch more to the ones you love instead. Wilbur says he loves him but he doesn't want to bring Tommy with him. And he doesn't truly explain it. "I was born in Utah" alright but how is that am explanation? What is he doing exactly and why doesn't he want others to know? He abandoned Tommy just as much as on November 16th. I've seen some people theorising he died at the sea in the storm and Utah is the afterlife and I can't blame them.
It's a plot twist literally nobody saw coming but my gods do I feel those posts about sometimes not having a plot twist and tying things in a cohesive narrative is actually better and if people figure it out it means it makes sense. Unexpected events can be good. I liked Wilbur and Tommy's interaction with Dream in Inconsolable Differences a lot! I wasn't expecting it but it felt true to Wilbur's character. And it was in the theme. This one doesn't feel like that at all.
I don't feel mad. I feel sad. It pains me that such an interesting topic, and one that was handled so well until now, feels like it was just cut suddenly. Like someone decided that it was getting too dark and that we need lighten up the mood so it stopped the conversation in middle of someone speaking.
I'm also still wondering if Wilbur did actually forgive himself or if he even tried. "But I never did quite forgive myself" implies he acknowledges it, but I guess it's a bit of an open ending in that regard. That I will let slide but the rest? I will need a good explanation to make me change my mind. And I desperately want for this to be bullshit and for C!Wilbur to come back in Volume 2 and Tommy to hit him in the head. But I don't have much luck.

Trampled Dandelions Random Facts
@hopalongfairywren enjoy some interesting fun facts!
most of these are just my regular dsmp hcs, but some of them are TD specific
(this is about the characters)
~~~~~~~~~~~
-sam once said to tubbo “I can’t believe that you’re the only cis member of your family!” and then tubbo just had to sit there awkwardly and say “Um...about that-”
-c!beeduo actually had a wedding in this au. it happened sometime like maybe a week after c!wilbur came back
-after getting killed in prison, sam didn’t just feel sympathy for tommy, he felt empathy for him
-tommy, tubbo, wilbur, and fundy are widely known on the server as the L’man Fam.
-tubbo actually really likes singing and playing the guitar and piano (he’s also pretty good at it), but it’s one of those situations where he feels insecure about it. tommy, ranboo, quackity, wilbur, and michael enjoy it though :]
-quackity is a therapist. and nonbinary.
-quackity has also been clingyduo’s therapist since the aftermath of nov. 16th
-speaking of the 16th, that actually goes quite a bit differently in TD! basically, to put it one way, instead of completely blowing up l’manberg (although there was still damage cause wil didn’t like. insulate the walls well enough), wilbur made the decision to instead use the tnt to...blow himself up. ho16 style. phil still stabs him, and that’s actually what makes wil step off the pressure plate, and causes the explosion
-wilbur becomes a zombie piglin after he’s revived
-one of the biggest what ifs for this au is like. what if fundy became president of new l’manberg and niki became vp (in-universe explanation is because the server members are actually smart enough to not make a 16 year old a president. like, after the 16th they could’ve just. Picked An Actual Adult to do it)
-because phil didn’t view tommy and tubbo as his kids, responsibility of the kids was passed onto fundy cause he was closest adult family member those two had
-fundy signed those two up for therapy immediately post-16th
-so, fun fact! while dream would very reluctantly tell people they could visit tommy (stuff along the lines of what’s in canon like “Oh, Tommy doesn’t want visitors right now, but you can go if you want to”), quackity is the only person that he’d outright say wasn’t allowed to visit tommy.
hmmm...surely it can’t be because they’re tommy’s therapist
...right?
-tubbo really got into f**king around with redstone and science during the exile arc of this au (definitely not because he was struggling through some serious mental health issues and also dealing with the fact his brother was exiled and, you know, had supposedly jumped to his death, and he was desperately trying to cope in any way he could...nope, definitely not that)
-tubbo and fundy were the ones to discover logstedshire after tommy left. while fundy freaked out, tubbo just stood there, staring at the pillar in disbelief, while he just quietly whispered, mostly to himself, “Surely not.”
-benchtrio were vibing together in the mansion after tommy got out of prison
-quackity in this au looks great in some simple gothic makeup. also in those sparkly kinds of makeup too. and red and gold. y’know what, i’m sure they could look fabulous in anything-
-quackity and eret have both, at different times in this au, assisted ranboo with things like makeup and style. ranboo appreciates it. they still help out whenever ranboo needs it
-ranboo was one of the few people besides quackity and fundy who checked in on tubbo regularly during the exile arc of this au. especially after tommy “died”/went missing
that’s all for now! i think y’all can tell which arc i’m obsessing over in this au-
[lore ask]
🎉 - Did Tommy betray Technoblade at the Green Festival?
hey so um if i speak im in trouble. No jk ive actually talked about this like feb 2021 probably (idk exact month but it was 2021!).
Ill keep it short for the game but its really a no narratively but in c!techno's eyes yeah thats how ctechno views it. Because c!Tommy left because of the fact of what L'Manberg represents to him, which is a home, which is a group of friends/family/people that care about each other, which is safety, which is protection from tyranny (c!Dream notably), but also it is c!wilbur's legacy and in the sense sort one of the last thing that remains of that legacy in c!tommy's mind. He tells c!techno this directly that he views it as such, as cwilburs "symphony" (paraphrasing its been a while). He also never wanted to destroy L'Manberg. He made it very clear the entire time he'd do "minor terrorism" and agreed to c!techno's other terms which of note the lmanberg destruction in its entirety was not included in that journal on purpose! c!Tommy never agreed to this and towards the end when he was asked he did sort of say maybe in a way, but i remember to the audience (and the whole time) he said "i dont want it gone". It's true ctechno views this as betrayal but in reality i think its a lot more complicated than that, and thus the c!bedrock communication gap is apparent in this part of the arc because ctechno thinks he can convince ctommy and he also doesnt know what lmanberg means to ctommy, nor of what it even meant to cwilbur, and ctommy doesnt know what ctechno kept from him in the beginning of their agreement.
🗡 - Was Phil killing Wilbur justified?
okay i dont want to make this post too long. Short answer no. I really think cphil should've tried to help him/not killed him/listened to him a bit/talked to him. Especially no when you consider how much c!phil has not really wanted to learn about c!wilbur, what happened, or lmanberg's history leading up the 16th since.
Woooooo ok going back to my old ways for this one
have you noticed an issue with consent in tommy centric sbi storys? cuz like i feel like a lot of the time shit just fucking happens to him
like in a lot of sbi storys(not just dark sbi ones) i feel like tommy gets little to no agency. like for instance if tommy runs away they drag him back kicking and screaming(no exaggeration). and the next day hes like “lol guys im so sorry i was so rude and i love you so much”. i think it has a lot to do with mental health issues as well. because often in these storys they treat him like he js so mentally ill and sad and suicidal and shit that he cant make decisions for himself.
i guess it also ties into him being ooc a lot in these fics too. like especially in fics where he is a hybrid. like they make it so hes just so soft and uwu baby and he cant make any desisions for himself because he needs his family to do it for him and he never swears or is angry at them💞💞💞💞❣️❣️💕💕💗💗💓💓💖💖 because also they often use the hybrod thing so that when he expresses any anger or discomfort/displeasure with what is happening the just scratch behind his ear so his brain stops working and then its a-okay.
this stuff especially bothers me because i am a trans person who came out when they where 10 so when child characters dont get agency it really grind my gears, as literally no one would say.
and listen i know all of it is just an excuse to have some fluffy sbi moments, and an opportunity for the writer to get the comforts they cant in real life by 3 famous “hot” men . but i dont think that makes it ok.
1. the way they do it infantilizes neuro-divergent
This one is pretty easy to explain, when you say your character with abandonment issues, ptsd, anxiety, adhd and whatever orher shit you give them is soooo cute and helpless and needs other people to make good decisions for him weather he likes it or not🥺🥺🥺 its bad. its bas because it reinforces the idea that all mentally ill people are children or child like.
2. its lazy
listen bbg i get that you wanna feel loved but you could put in even a 🤏 that would be great. it is easy to just not gove your characters agency so you can get to the part you have been replaying in your head over and over a little faster, but its unsatisfying. if you just do a little bit of work, like maybe instead of wilbur telling tommy he cant leave, maybe wilbur says he doesnt want him to leave, so tommy doesnt leave. this shows that wilbur is viewing tommy as a full human person, it shows that tommy loves wilbur, but it also shows that tommy isnt healed enough to admit that.
boom baby i came up with that in like 5 seconds
god im sorry if this is just word vomit i just feel strongly about this fan-fiction trend
tldr: please for the love of god just give tommyinnit a little agency
Sorry I haven’t answered this yet, I did see it in my inbox but then forgot about it. 😭
But honestly yeah I agree with this, although for c!Tommy this is nothing new, literally every character on the dsmp has been mischaracterized and boiled down to one character trait in fanfiction. Morally complex characters like c!Wilbur, c!Sam and c!Quackity being the worst offenders.
But since this is about SBI we will stick to that.
The thing is that a lot of authors do project themselves onto their fave and since in this case it’s c!Tommy, there’s gonna be a lot of woobifying involved. I agree that removing any agency c!Tommy has is not a good way to write him, however I’m a little more sympathetic to him being woobified in fanfics only because in canon he doesn’t get that many moments to be properly loved and taken care of.
Not saying it’s really a great idea, but I understand why.
I personally get annoyed too when authors remove c!Tommys scathing tongue in fanfics. Bc hey guess what, he can be fucking mean and rude at times too. He calls people a bitch and other words but the key aspect of c!Tommy is that his way of showing love is, a lot of the time, proven through actions.
In SBI fics where he is made way more childish than he honestly needs to be (like come on guys, the cc is 18, you can make him a little childish but don’t overdo it for the sake of fluff) it kinda takes away the realism and like you said, his agency. c!Tommy doesn’t just take things lying down, he is rough edges and biting words, that’s who he is.
I think fic authors can do better than just making him a babied version of himself because not only is it kinda :/ to make him constantly dependent upon other people but it’s also just ooc.
I don’t really have much more to say on the matter though, I’ve seen so much ooc writing come out of this fandom alone that it’s impressive (in a /neg way)
how do I forgive myself for loosing so much time?
by Artemis_Venus
c! Wilbur raising c!Tommy, told in a series of memories ------------------------------------------------ “Wil! Wilbur! Wilbs!” The tiny kid barrels down the hill, running towards Wilbur, who's stretched under the large oak tree.
Wilbur loves this tree. It's peaceful and tranquil. He likes the quiet beauty it emits.
It also gives him a good view of Tommy when he’s playing in the field and hill, like right now.
The kid was just laying on his stomach, when he suddenly sprang up and started running towards Wilbur.
He doesn't seem to be in danger, so Wilbur just grins at the sight of his little brother pumping his tiny legs as fast as he can, smiling as radiant as the sun.
His blonde curls flop over his face, (he needs a haircut soon) as he runs, arms pinwheeling to keep his balance.
Wilbur laughs, and gets up, not bothering to mark his page. He walks toward Tommy and scoops the kid up before he has the chance to collide with his legs.
He can walk and run, sure, but he hasn’t quite got the hang of it yet.
Tommy screeches as he's picked up and Wilbur laughs, hugging him close to his chest. Tommy curls closer, and Wilbur melts. The kid is really the sweetest.
Something interesting is that every instance of c!Dream doing something shitty to others has been framed as either 1) reactive, 2) preventative, or 3) consequentialist (Ends-Justify-The-Means). Basically nothing is framed as sadistic, and even his vengeful actions always come with something else tied to it (Quackity needs to be too scared to come after him again, Sam needs a canon death so that nobody else tries to “fuck with [him]” again, etc.). Hell, even moments like Tommy’s third death in Pandora were immediately preceded by a blinding rage that made him lash out in a way that is entirely human and I’d probably do the same thing (in that case it was Tommy 1) physically attacking him and 2) murdering the cat explicitly because Dream said he loved her) (also he revived him a day later and then proceeded to share his very limited food supply until Sam finally got around to letting Tommy out).
Exile was largely a mix of a reaction to Tommy’s antagonism and a prevention from him getting in his way as he got his disk from Tubbo in preparation for the Staged Finale, Doomsday was both a step in his plan to help paint him as a villain to the server and a reaction to L’Manberg completely ruining his original Big Happy Family a la the introduction of by-the-book nationalism (thanks, c!Wilbur), what he did to Lazarbeam and Vikk was consequentialism at its most extreme, etc.
Dream’s main flaw has always been overestimation. This extends to how he views natural human endurance (Pandora (self) and Exile (Tommy) ), what he thinks is an acceptable trade (traumatizing ClingyDuo in exchange for keeping up the charade, killing himself and Punz over and over and over and over —) and even how he views other people’s moral compass (he trusted Sam to be fair and kind even if Sam hated him, he believed that Tommy would not go after him post-prison as long as the Disc Fight had concluded, he was completely blindsided by the idea of Quackity torturing him, etc.) In short, he is an absolute moron when it comes to “reasonable expectations.”
(Seriously, with how fucked up his sense of “acceptable” is, I really wouldn’t be shocked if he thought that Exile was just an annoying two weeks on an island that Tommy was being dramatic about. Just look at what he deemed “alright” during the construction of Pandora’s Vault, like Jesus Christ man.)
i lovvveeee how much you pay attention toooo 🙌🏼 his character is so heckin interesting it’s insane. i don’t have much to add but i am nodding my head vigorously in thought
(discussed below anyway)
🦙🦙🦙…
the stuff you pointed out about him not being able to manipulate people as effectively as wilbur in the other ask is such an interesting point. he managed to find only one technique that allowed him to hold some reins over tommy and the other server members,, and that was controlling them through fear. but the only reason he was doing that was because he was scared himself.
i still find it so cool to loook at his choice of people that he saw as soon as he got out of prison. like he straight away went back and ensured that people still feared him (i bet he mistook fear for respect,, or saw them as achieving the same results, but he could control fear easier). but then you also pointed out that he might not have even meant to run into tommy in the exile island? i just think his first instinct when interaction is to lash out, in fear that others will do so first. and it’s easier to convince people to be scared or wary of you than to respect you (that’s what i feel he found anyway)
he’s really cool :(
Snippets of text I added to a reblog from 7 months ago:
I view c!Dream as a tragedy, mostly—specifically of the “lost sight of what matters” kind of character. He’s talked about his “big, happy family” before, a statement so definitive that everyone freaked out when c!Ranboo unintentionally parroted it. It’s a really interesting motivation, because it’s idyllic to the point of impossibility; you can’t just go back in time and pretend that the conflicts never happened and the nations never existed. But he wants to. And he thinks he can, by employing the very same methods that wrought those conflicts into being: manipulation of the “narrative”.
[...]
The problem is, c!Dream’s lost sight of what matters. What does he really want? His end goal is the dissolution of nations and wars, the unification of the server, sure—but why? We don’t really know the answer to this (though you could extrapolate a great number of good or bad things from it), but it’s important to ask, because he might be giving it up in pursuit of this grand ideal of peacefulness that remains constantly out of reach. A comparison I like to draw is in a different form of roleplaying media, as follows:
Tumblr media
[ID: Taliesin: Be gentle in your motives, is all I ask. Always—it’s always worth thinking about what you really want. It’s the only thing that really matters.
Liam: I want the murderers removed from power in my country.
Taliesin: Why? Really. Why?
Liam: Because I’m tired of children being thrown on the pyre.
Taliesin: That’s what you really don’t want. That’s what you want, though. You want no more children on the pyre. Always remember that. You don’t want to punish the people who made you. You want to make sure that no one else makes you. You’ll get there quicker.]
c!Dream, as I view it, is someone who has lost sight of that direct connection between his means and his end. He wants peace, and he’s willing to give up anything and everything for it, but his methods have muddled and obscured his true intentions to the point where the two are barely even connected anymore.
[...]
Now, that isn’t to overlook the fact that c!Tommy is a liar and a scammer who talks faster than he thinks and believes consequences are for other people, and that’s what makes him fun to watch—but it doesn’t make him deserving of the strife he has to endure. And that’s the point! Nobody deserves the kind of harm and retribution so often tossed around on this server, no matter what they’ve done. Acknowledging that c!Tommy isn’t a pure, poor uwu tiny baby boy but still deserves sympathy and respect in the aftermath of traumatic events is vital to understanding the circle of violence in the SMP, because forgetting that is how the cycle perpetuates. This applies to all of the characters, from c!Tommy to c!Niki to c!Wilbur to c!Dream to c!Sam to c!Quackity.
[...]
Tumblr media
[ID: Taliesin: Intentions and actions are rarely connected. They’re distant cousins. I mean, it’s true. Think about everybody here. This is a whole group of people with, I mean, I’ll just say it, we have some issues.]
anyway au where c!dream is completely 1000% aware of everything after the reset and he’s just being a manipulative dick. he takes full advantage of c!tommy’s complete amnesia to force him into complete and utter reliance- after all, what if he forgets again? they’re friends right? and that tubbo, he looks at you weirdly doesn’t he, you should never talk to him, it’s not safe. tommy, you really should just stay here, and i’ll make sure no one ever hurts you. and it doesn’t count if i’m doing it, really, you deserved it. we’re almost like brothers, aren’t we?
so essentially, c!tommy gets exile arced but he’s even more reliant on c!dream, has no knowledge on where he’d go, views everyone else as a threat, and can’t even remember what a healthy friendship is meant to be like. but as time goes on he starts to get these really sickening flashes. sometimes when he’s in the plains around his and dream’s house, he starts shaking so hard he can barely crawl home. he starts having disturbing, disjointed nightmares of deep dark voids. he wakes up underwater and finds he doesn’t want to surface. all of these amuse c!dream greatly, and he tells c!tommy they must mean he’s special in some way- after all, it’s not happening to c!dream is it? so it must only be c!tommy. (after all, c!tommy wouldn’t see it happening to the others, would he?)
meanwhile, c!wilbur has finished his utah Christmas shopping and is looking come back and spend the holidays with his families and is in for the worlds biggest suprise…
