Ancestors
Hear my plea
I call to you beyond
Below the tree
In Helheim you rest
Settled in Hel's welcoming nest
I call you now
Blood to blood
Help me find strength
Help me find wisdom
Oh Ancestors
Throughout my family line
Back through the ages in time
Bring to me the knowledge
I need to survive
Bring to me your will
Your power
Of that which rests within me
Hidden and asleep
Awaken it
Awaken thee
O Ancestors
I call you now
Rid thee of thine weakness
Give thee thy blessing
Vitality abound

Ʌ simple prayer for Prophets, Seers, discerners, healers, and interceders
I thank God for the Spirit of Divine Discernment, The gift of discernment, and the discernment of my Ancestral host.
I operate in a place where these anointings apply in my life.
Connect me with the Divine spiritual Hosts who will sharpen my discernment.
I draw from the anointing where Iron sharpens Iron.
I renounce all false motives and wrong spirits that would affect my discernment in a negative manner.
I purpose to pursue things that are in spirit and renounce the things that are after flesh.
I declare that the righteousness of the law will be fulfilled in me because i have renounced and do things of the flesh.
I give myself wholly to The most High and Spiritual development.
I am growing daily in the realm of spirit and will never become addicted to spiritual milk.
I strive for maturity of The Most High.
My mind is trained to discern that which is divinely good and bad.
I have been anointed to discern what is light and what is dark.
The mantle of discernment is on me.
I have wisdom and authority to use when you reveal secrets to me.
I decree that i am empowered by The most High to see in spirit.
The realm includes what is dark and what is light.
I will not fear what is shown to me in the dark realm.
I have greater power over all which is darkness.
I do not walk in a spirit of fear but spirits of power, love, and a sound mind.
Thank you for allowing the spirit of discernment to become an asset for my family.
Also allow it to bring contribution to the Kingdom.
Information and revelations come to me in the day and night.
Perfect prayer to say at night before dream work or introspection

On the Eve of Chinese New Year, mum and sis got up early to go to Chong Pang to collect the pre-ordered roasted chicken (烧鸡), roasted pork (烧肉) and char siu (叉烧). The three types of roasted meat, nian gao (年糕) and mandarin oranges are offered to our ancestors and gods along with incense and joss papers (金纸). The Offerings will be eaten for lunch or dinner while the joss papers burned.

Spending my autumn equinox blessing and prepping my small beloved dead shrine. I just received these beautiful prayerbeads from @laracreates88 that i commissioned in honor of my beloved dead, with beads made from Jet (used historically in Victorian mourning jewelry), Garnet (which related to underworld mysteries), and fossilized coral (death and its relationship with water and going to the earth).

dude I was looking through clips for a reference image and it literally makes me sick with anger that Genndy chose to portray Africa like That. Literally racist caricatures like come onnnn man. The worst part is that I really want to LIKE that episode aside from the art direction. His mentor is a very sweet guy and I like Jack’s little rivalry with the other kid. I dislike that Jack has to save everyone and the other tribe is portrayed even worse, but at least Jack isn’t fighting by his fucking self the whole scene. there was so much potential in this episode if Genndy hadn’t been so fucking racist with his character designs. I do not fucking understand why he chose to make them absolutely pitch black in color. That’s not what humans look like. It’s like how he colors Jack straight up yellow sometimes. I know during the time this came out it was not very likely for bigotry to get called out but that had to have made some people uncomfortable. Jeeeeesus Christ. The guy portrayed China more respectfully than he portrayed literally any other culture including Japan lmao. Actually I take that back he gave quite a few Chinese characters racist accents. The man wanted a ‘multiethnic’ feel to his show but could not fucking stop being white and racist for it
#samurai jack#I HAAAAATE ITTTT#I love the character of the African Chief I just can’t stand his fucking character design. you didn’t deserve that king#I say he didn’t portray Japan well bc he barely even did. it was like some hand wavey Vibe of Japan and nothing concrete#he at least bothered to portray Shaolin monks without just making them aggressively Chinese#Genndy straight up knew more abt China than he did Japan bc there are SO many times#where what Genndy thinks is a Japanese culture thing is more just him considering all East Asians the same#listen I love samurai jack but I think it got away with this a little too easily. I think Genndy should get some flak for that#that whole ‘great ancestors’ prayer is cool and all but Jack wouldn’t be praying to them like in fucking Mulan. that’s not his religion.#in Japanese culture you can and do pray to your ancestors but not like. in the middle of nowhere in battle?#it made for a cool moment to show Jack wasnt abandoned by his culture but it was. not even a little accurate LOL#I GGUESS the argument could be made Jack was just sending a little prayer up but it still felt. off#not even people in China prayed like that to nebulous ancestors in the sky LOL#it’s just kind of an orientalist thing. idk maybe Genndy pulled the idea from somewhere like most of his Jack scenes but#it’s not Japanese in nature LOL#I can see it coming from a Conan scene. a goood chunk of Jack was inspired by Conan#anyway. the most accurate fucking Japanese culture scene was when the Jack robot was praying to what he could scrounge up as a small shrine#and it WASNT EVEN REAL JACK.

I want to start an ancestor altar as part of my grieving process; I am aware that ancestor veneration is part of Hellenic Polytheism, but it’s not something I’ve practiced much until now.
However, a lot of the information I’m getting about ancestor veneration is very culturally specific, coming from Christo-Pagans or Hoodoo practitioners. All good and interesting info, but how do I tell which practices are specific to certain groups, or otherwise closed.
I love my grandma, but I want to honor her memory without appropriation or use of closed practices. Any resources on specifically Hellenic Polytheist ancestor veneration? I have a bit of info in my introduction books, but nothing extensive.

I spent the day and again today doing neuroscience outreach at a huge event my work puts on. Holding a human brain in my hands and talking about it to tons and tons of people. I'm having some feelings about it and wrote it down.
Thank you, beautician who died of dementia at 82, for donating your body to science. Your beautiful brain has educated so many thousands of people. So many eager-eyed kids, so many fascinated adults. I hope this is what you had in mind. I hope it's better. I hope you feel proud of my science outreach work with your lovely brain. I hope the dozens of kids that have decided to study more about how the brain works are a worthy legacy in your eyes. I hope you love your "afterlife". I love spending time with you and sharing what I know about you and your wonderful brain.

Gratitude to My Ancestors
"With honor and respect, these eyes see for you all manner of life you could not have imagined. My lips move with the rhythm of your words flowing through me, my tongue caressing each morsel of wisdom I am graced to pass on. Your DNA rides my veins and with every breath I take, your cautious steps from the past toward a fuller life become bold moves I make toward my destiny. Together, we wrap arms around a new generation, here to become who they were born to be, to cast their magic as we once did and bless each day for their ability to do so.
For you, dear ancestors, we live this day."

A Prayer to Apollon on World AIDS Day
Tumblr media
The Tiber Apollo statue in Rome. Photograph by Miguel Hermoso Cuesta. Courtesy of Wikimedia Commons.
I call upon Apollon Loimios, Averter of evil and deliverer from plague. As you mourned your beloved Hyakinthos, So we grieve for our sisters and brothers Lost to the terrible scourge of AIDS. So many lives cut off too soon, Struck by your far-flung arrows, A generation of voices silenced, Suspended like the fateful throw of a discus. On this first day of bleak December, We call upon their names, We remember their stories, We honor their legacy. May their memory be to us Like an ever-blooming flower, Bringing light and color To a world dull and gray. We ask you, O gentle Paieon, Bless their souls in fair Elysium, Grant them mercy, peace, and well-deserved rest. Bring comfort to those who mourn them, Give strength to those still living with the disease, And accord us wisdom to face future epidemics With greater tolerance, compassion, and wisdom. Hear, Boedromios, and accept my prayer.

Dutch 1500s witchcraft
I saw a lot of satanic posts on my feed today, so I thought I'd just drop this Dutch prayer here I found in a 1500s book;
“I adjure you, Ashtaroth, by the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and by the Virgin Mary and by holy obedience, etc., that as long as this candle burns, through the fire, N., the daughter of N. becomes inflamed and burns with love and desire for me, so that she neither wakes nor sleeps nor eats nor drinks nor does anything until she has submitted herself to my will.” (In the places of N you need to fill in the relevant names.)
“Ik bezweer u, Astaroth, by de Vader en de Zoon en de H. Geest, en by de Maagd Maria en by de heilige gehoorzaamheid enz. dat, zolang deze kaars brandt door het vuur, N., de dochter van N. ontstoken wordt en brandt van liefde en begeerte voor my, zodat ze niet waakt of slaapt, eet of drinkt, of wat anders doet totdat ze zich aan myn wil heeft onderworpen.”
Source; "Middeleeuwse witte en zwarte magie in het Nederlands taalgebied" (Medieval white and black magic in the Dutch language area) written in 1997 by historian Willy L. Braekman.
The book is full of examples of how Dutch witchcraft was truely practised in the Mediaeval and Early Modern Netherlands. (The book is in Dutch, but is fully in txt form so you can easily put Google Translate on it.) So not the stuff that innocent women were accused of, but how people truely used magic to improve their lives.
Most of it is little things against small pains, finding lost things or stuff like that. But one of the biggest claims was the above prayer that can get you a girl. (Or a boy of course. Just replace 'daughter' with 'son'.)
Hope y'all can enjoy it and put some use out of it! :)
Also out of the book as a whole! I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in witchcraft and how our ancestors truely practised it in the past. <3 (It was more nuanced and interesting than the outrageous accusations thrown at innocent women.)

Ancestor prayer/meditation beads.
So, as more of a norse pagan, ancestor veneration is an important aspect to the norse faith.
Ancestor veneration is a practice where you connect with your ancestoral line spiritually to worship and give thanks to the ancestors. They are also around you all the time helping to guide you.
Through ancestor veneration it's possible to heal family curses and trauma in the ancestor line. It is also helpful in protection. The ancestors can be a fierce force of protection in your life as well.
Norse practiotioners traditionally do not use meditation/prayer beads but I find them helpful in connecting spiritually with what ever entity they are made for. I am neurodiverse and I think tools like this help me to focus.
I have a set for freya as well but I've been wanting to make a set for my ancestors for over a year now. I finally made a set of beads. I also made a matching bracelet as a reminder that they are always there.
From what ive gathered from my family history there is alot of trauma in my ancestoral line. I am hoping I can help heal that and that's also why I made blue clay beads.
My aunt gave my mom a rose bush on Mother's Day a year before she died. Occasionally I'll pick from the bush and put those roses on my ancestor altar. The last time I did it, I saved the petals. So I ground them up and rolled them in polymer clay to make ancestor beads.
I like how these turned out and they are currently sitting on my ancestor altar with offerings so that they can be blessed by my ancestors.
Freyas beads were previously posted.
