Upcoming Giveaway *
Tumblr media
5.15.19
The Spring semester is officially over (I had my final presentation last Thursday!!!). I’m a senior now !(?)
This semester was hands down the toughest for me, mainly because I injured my feet about a month into the term. Whenever I saw people using crutches around campus I always thought If that ever happens to me, I’ll just give up! I won’t go to classes!!
Well, seems I was tougher than that. But it really was difficult. The first two months were extremely painful. So painful that, now that I’m feeling much better, I just can’t believe I managed to limp across parking lots, on snow, up/down stairs..... T_T
It also took a toll on my mental health because I had to rest/rely on others a lot. I am so used to being busy and going all over the place. It was just awful. I also didn’t break a bone, I sprained a tendon (plantar fasciitis wouldn’twishthisonanyone) which takes longer to heal. I’m reaching month 3, but at least the swelling is completely gone. I’ve been going to physical therapy, and am walking almost pain free!
This injury really changed how I had envisioned this semester. I planned on joining a kpop dance club, doing volunteer work, working as much as possible to save money, and of course getting great grades. I didn’t get to join the new fun events, had to stop working, couldn’t exercise, and my low energy caused me to let things pile up. I was in danger of failing a class, too > < I worked hard the last few weeks, and my grades came out fine at least. My GPA went down, but just a little. I had a legit reason I guess. . . . . . . .
A great and exciting thing did happen during all of this torture. I won a scholarship from the US Dept. of State, called Critical Language Scholarship (CLS). It is a fully-funded program for college students to study a critical language abroad. I will be going to South Korea for 2 months this summer to study the language with other Intermediate level U.S. students. I was so worried this entire time that I wouldn’t be able to go due to my feet, but now I can actually be excited and look forward to June 😍
I also started my own personal WordPress blog a month ago. Will show it off here once I get some more articles posted on there and everything else set up!
So glad I have a break from academics, but my goals still need attention. What I will be focusing on this summer:
Getting an internship in Korea for the Fall semester
Practice my Korean before I go
Tutoring a second grader
Getting back into the gym
I’m really set on interning in Korea, so I registered for all online classes for Fall 2019. I also found out I can graduate a semester early if I wanted to. Well, I don’t want to (lol), so I’m taking 3 classes Fall 2019, and will only need 3 or 4 more when I return in Spring 2020.
****THE IMPORTANT PART:
Thanks for giving this blog LOVE even though I was on a semi-hiatus. We have reached 10,000 followers. I’m planning a giveaway soon so be on the lookout for that! ;)

50 things present-me would tell senior-in-high-school-me:
You're gonna change your mind about your major.
Seriously, just pick Accounting.
At the very least, save yourself from playing credits catch-up later on by not taking just 4 classes one semester, and putting off most of the gen. ed requirements till your junior year kthanks
You don't need to have a friend with you to go to school clubs. Would be nice to have them there, but they don't want to make time for it and you do. So DO IT!
Don't freak out too much about being involved either. You already saw in high school how doing so does nothing good for you.
You're gonna go to therapy. Might as well do it now instead of waiting till the second semester.
If you want a gap year, take it. Doesn't matter if all your other friends are doing college in the Fall, you'll soon discover that they will all start going down different paths anyway.
You're a commuter, so spend more time on campus!
Get your license before going!!
Follow up with people. Those girls from that sorority who reached out to you could've been some great networks/friends.
Re-discover your interests. Refresh your mind on Korean, start that blog, or just read for enjoyment again.
Go to the gym!!
Don't eat all that junk food. You were doing so well with the diet change :'(
You will find your purpose and motivation among all this commotion. Don't worry.
There will be many presentations. And you will do just fine.
Ditch that one annoying kid. No, he is not slightly awkward yet kind. He is a self-proclaimed "nice guy" who will creep you out multiple times before crossing the line.
Don't even look in his direction during orientation.
Don't be afraid to make friends with the international kids.
Sure, they hang out mostly among themselves… and it still intimidates a bit now… but just go for it! There are some cool people you'll meet later on.
Study by yourself. Take up the invites to study with friends, but do most of it alone because the whole group method isn't working so well.
Say hi to the people you sit next to on the first day.
Large gaps between classes actually suck. Have them closer together, except for lunch/dinner times.
You actually like having 3-4 classes in one day. It frees up most of the week for work, fun, or studying, and it feels good to be busy.
Put part of your paychecks in your savings, dammit.
Get close to your favorite professors.
Don't fill out the FAFSA last minute.
Don't feel bad about being waitlisted for your first choice. This one's much better ;)
Most of your fears towards dorming and going out of state for college ended up not being true. It would still cost a lot of money, but you would have definitely been "worth it."
You can still grow as a person despite being a commuter.
Seriously. Plus, the people around you will remind you how jealous they are of the perks that come with it.
You are going to study abroad, and you're gonna love every second of it.
You will get over your fear of needles! About time
Make time for dating and fun romance-y things.
You're gonna face and overcome things you thought you never would. Be proud.
Travel by yourself. Don't wait around for other people to tag along. You are ready, and its not that hard.
Do allll the extra credit.
Take that drawing class.
Don’t minor in Psychology.
Actually go ahead, those were some interesting and useful classes. Just don't expect to stick with it. You won't have space for all the requirements in your schedule.
Don't be afraid to do things that interest you by yourself. Literally no one is watching you, or waiting to see you fail.
Attend some workshops.
Get that LinkedIn account set up.
You will have some rude and sarcastic professors. Just ride out the wave of cringe it occasionally sets upon the classroom.
Don't walk to class with your phone stuck to your face. Admire your surroundings. ooh nature
Do important things face to face, like submitting a scholarship application. Sometimes technology just fails us. >:(
Online textbooks are the way to go.
You don't need friends in every class, but you need someone to contact about homework when you miss a day.
Sometimes classes during holidays are necessary.
Studying doesn't stop when you're let out for breaks.
You can have good grades AND fun!
thanks for reading! What would you tell your young teenage-self?;

Don't laze around at home
Being on campus can naturally put us in the studious zone. When you come home you want to kick back and relax, but don't give in. You're still a  student no matter where you live while in college. Obviously relax at some point, but its better to start homework/studying almost immediately after arriving home. You can always have a meal, snack, or 20 minute nap before starting, but start ASAP while you’re still in the zone!
Get involved
Extracurriculars will be your taste of the college life, so get in there and make the most of it. Don't be afraid to go alone either. People who share the same interests and meet up regularly for an activity tend to make friends pretty quickly, trust me. You don't even have to be the loudest or most confident person in the room to do so.
Stay on campus
Don't leave right after your last class ends. Meet up with friends to study (or have a solo session), have dinner with friends in or around campus, go to a club, or even work on campus. Do anything to stay away from home as much as possible. From now on, you should consider home as the place where you eat and sleep (and socialize with your family sometimes), just like dorms for students are simply places to sleep in (and socialize with your roommate sometimes. or not at all).
Meet other commuters
Depending on your school, you may feel like there are barely any commuters around you. Well, everyone else feels the same way, so meet up and have each other's backs! Some schools have commuters' clubs and if yours doesn't, start one. I'm guilty of not having been to my school's commuters' club yet, but I have made some commuter friends in class who I can relate to.
Make friends with dormers
I mean obviously don't try to pick out friends specifically for what they have, but we should all try to diversify our friends if it is possible. Having a friend with a dorm means even more time away from home and even more opportunities to experience the "typical" college life. Definitely sleep over friends' dorms and go to dorm parties. The frequency of these activities is up to you, but its always cool to try something new.
Study Abroad
This experience will be a million times more mind-blowing than dorming at a school in your state or country. Now I'm not trying to discredit the experiences of dormers- its still a great experience that will hold many memories for you and help you grow. I'm just trying to convey how amazing study abroad is because it is by far the most amazing experience I've gotten out of college so far (and i think every student should try it!). Packing your bags to be in a country where you aren't fluent in the local language and don't really know anyone is going to be a crazy experience in both good and not so good ways. Personally, the "not so good ways" were just slight inconveniences and allow me to have some crazy stories to tell. Overall, it was definitely a challenge. A challenge that I loved every second of. I'm so grateful that it was my first experience living on my own. More importantly, I felt so proud that "I actually DID THAT!" (and didn't die).
Now before you all roll your eyes at me because only rich people do this, I went with financial help from my home university. My college has a partnership with the Korean university I went to, so I automatically got half off the tuition. I was also able to use some scholarship refund money towards the trip. My scholarship is for my grades, but you can still find other ways to get your funds if your grades aren't the best. For example, my university offers another scholarship opportunity on top of the slashed tuition, which is based mostly on your statement of purpose letter and recommendation(s). I applied, but they didn't receive my application (more on that in a future post, imstillsosaltyaboutit). There are other scholarships being offered (even from the government) that weigh your interest in study abroad more than your grades when choosing their recipients. I will make a post all about study abroad soon, so there's more info on that coming up. Don't hesitate to start researching yourself, though!
Join a sorority/fraternity
I personally haven't done this and I'm still not sure if I ever will, but this seems like a great experience to me and could benefit many students. I was "scouted" (if that's the right word- sorry, I don't know your Greek terminology!) by some girls from a sorority at my school because of my involvement in the Marketing club. I'm sure it differs for every organization, but the information they gave me on sorority life seemed intriguing. Volunteering, social events, study sessions together, having "sisters" I wasn't related to. Now that I think about it, making friends in a sorority is probably similar to how it is when you study abroad. You're all on the same boat in this new thing, and so the comradery just comes naturally to everyone. Perfect for shy people to get out of their shells, and socialites to, well, socialize.
I was also told that members were required to live in the sorority house for at least one semester. Imagine getting a whole HOUSE to yourself and a bunch of other amazing people with similar interests?! You could live on campus, make lots of friends, and not hurt your wallet as much in the process.
Join the school paper
Whether your school prints physical newspapers, posts online, or makes podcasts, you should try to join in on the reporting. This position will force you to meet all kinds of students, professors, staff members, alumni, and more. When I joined my school’s newspaper, members were given “topics” that were going to be their main area of focus (but we were also able to write about other subjects as well). You’ll be interviewing people and going to campus events to get that article done. Don’t be worried about your writing skills, either. While you should be fluent or close to fluent in the language you’re writing in, odds are the club leaders will work to teach their members some grammar and formatting rules that they would like their stories to follow.
A lot of these tips apply to students who dorm as well, because we all should try to be active in our campuses and make unique friendships along the way. Good luck this semester guys!
thanks for reading, hope these tips help;

_ My supplies came in the mail today! I got lots of language texts, a book to read for fun (and fix my messy life), some notebooks, and a set of fine tip sharpies to start my new bujo. I’m probably going to use the notebooks to study song lyrics in my target languages. So excited to try everything out! _
