You walked across campus towards the main building of the university. Music playing in your ears, you smiled at everyone you passed. You were known across the campus, everyone knowing you as the sweetest person who would go out of their way to help someone.
Even though everyone knew you across campus, that didn’t mean that everyone liked you. You’re not sure why people like to pick on you, was it because of how you dress? How you’re kind to everyone, so they see you as an easy target? You don’t know but you also don’t care because once you’ve graduated, you’re moving away from Seoul.
Luckily you have your friends looking out for you, always making sure you’re ok and get you away from the bullies. One of them in particular, Hyunjin, you’ve grown closer to than the others. You wouldn’t tell anyone, but you’ve grown feelings for him. The way his eyes turn into crescents whenever he smiles, how he laughs with his whole body, how he jokingly judges Jisung whenever he makes a bad joke.
You make it inside the university building, getting closer to your lecture room. You had your music volume turned up so you couldn’t hear anyone behind you, until you felt someone grab your bag, pulling you to the ground.
You felt your earphones being ripped out of your ears, seeing them fall to the ground beside you. You looked up and saw him, Jung Taehyun. He smirked down at you, that evil smirk that you wanted to slap off him, but you didn’t have the guts to do that.
“Yah!” the voice boomed throughout the hallway, you, Taehyun and his ‘minions’ looking in the direction of where it came from. You smiled as you saw Bang Chan, the eldest of your friend group walking towards you. “Get away from them, unless you want to have a broken nose”, Chan threatened as he stood in front of Taehyun, glaring at him.
“Whatever, she’s a freak anyway”, Taehyun said, using your wrong pronouns, a single tear rolling down your cheek. “y/n’s pronouns are they/them, you fucking asshole”, Chan said, helping you up as Taehyun and his friends walked away.
You brushed yourself off, straightening your clothes out as Chan picked up your earbuds, giving them to you, music still playing. You put them back in its case, putting them in your bag.
“You ok?” he asked, looking at you with a concerned look. You nodded, a small smile on your face. He didn’t seem convinced but he didn’t want to push you, so he dropped it and you both walked to your lecture room, hoping you weren’t late.
You managed to reach your class, the teacher not there yet as you sighed in relief. You both sat down in your seats, which were in the middle of the room. You sat beside Jeongin, who was doodling something in his book.
“What the hell are you drawing?” you asked, trying to sneak a glance. He showed you his drawing, a picture of a cat. “I drew Minho hyung”, his drawing was so cute, yet so funny because the drawing had angry eyebrows.
“YAH, YANG JEONGIN-AH”, Minho shouted as he took a glance at the drawing, getting up out of his seat. Jeongin got up out of his seat too, running around the room, laughing his head off. Everyone watched as the elder chased him, nearly knocking into desks and chairs.
While everyone watched the two running around the classroom, you looked at your other best friends, who were sitting in their designated seats. You looked at Bang Chan first, who was typing something on his phone. You assumed he was messaging his sister, since that’s who he mainly messages on his phone, excluding his parents. You were jealous about his relationship with his sister. You wished you were that close with your siblings but unfortunately, your siblings don’t really talk to you. Sure, they’ve spoken to you when they need something but apart from that, they don’t acknowledge you at all.
Next was Changbin, who was sitting to the left of you. His head was on his desk, resting on his arms, so you were sure he was asleep. Tiny snores leaving him as drool dribbled onto the desk, a tiny snort leaving your mouth. You poked his arm, trying to wake him up but to no avail, he wouldn’t budge. You poked him again, harder this time, but he still wouldn’t wake up, so you left him.
Your focus went from Changbin over to Seungmin, who sat near the door at the front of the class. He was sitting next to a guy who’s name you don’t know, but you didn’t care about him. Seungmin had his headphones in, his head resting on the back of his chair, his eyes closed. He was gently drumming his fingers on the desk, tapping his foot.
You looked over at both Jisung and Felix, who were sitting next to each other. Jisung was eating something, his cheeks puffed out. He reminded you of a squirrel because of his cheeks, it was so cute to you that whenever you went up to him, you always squished his cheeks, earning a whine from him. Felix was trying to steal Jisung’s food, whining whenever Jisung would gently tap his hand away.
You noticed that Felix’s freckles weren’t covered up with makeup, which he would normally do everyday before leaving every morning. You were happy that he didn’t cover them up, you loved his freckles. They made him unique in every way, and you wished he could see the beauty in them, so to see him uncovered made you really happy.
You noticed that Hyunjin was nowhere to be found, worrying you. Hyunjin was never late, apart from one time when he overslept, to which both the teacher and Chan lectured him (Chan knew Hyunjin was up till late playing video games). You felt sadness bubbling up inside you, but that soon disappeared when the door to the classroom opened, revealing his black hair, which was sticking up. He looked like he just got out of bed.
“Yah, Hwang Hyunjin, were you up playing video games again?!” Chan yelled as soon as he saw him, Hyunjin’s guilt showing up on his face. He gave a tiny laugh before he sat down in his seat, which was next to Minho’s.
Minho was still chasing Jeongin, the sound of Jeongin’s laughter filling the room. Though that soon died down when the teacher came barging into the classroom, their presence became known to everyone.
“Lee Minho and Yang Jeongin, what on earth are you doing?” Mrs. Park yelled, not looking too impressed. She gave them both a look that said ‘if you don’t sit down now, I will hit you with a book’ and they both sat down immediately, the look on their faces made everyone laugh, except the teacher.
Mrs. Park started with the lecture, everyone paying attention. Well, almost everyone. The only people who weren’t paying attention were Felix, Jisung and Jeongin. “Hey, y/n”, Jeongin whispered to you, interrupting you from your work. You looked over at him with gentle eyes, wondering why he wasn’t paying attention,
“What do you want?” you asked, though you didn’t say it maliciously. You’ve always had a soft spot for Jeongin, treating him as if he was a younger brother that you’ve never had. He treated you better than your actual siblings.
“Did you hear about the student that went missing? Apparently the student, Ji-min, didn’t go home yesterday after clearing up the science lab”, he whispered to you, loud enough for you to hear but quiet enough that the teacher wouldn’t be able to hear.
“Really? Wait, wasn’t the science teacher the last person to see her?” you asked, confused. Ji-min and a couple of other students were supposed to leave at the same time after cleaning the science lab, so why was she the only person to not leave? You were lost in thought until Jeongin poked your side, startling you.
“You ok? You were lost in thought for a moment”, he asked, worried. You just nodded at him, not wanting him to worry. You weren’t close with Ji-min, but you did talk a couple of times. She was quiet but sweet. She always sat at the back of the class next to the window, looking outside. She was probably the more quieter ones in the class, not really being involved in the class discussions, but she always did the work.
Ji-min woke up in the science lab, realising everyone else had left her. Goddammit, I told them to wake me up, she thought to herself. She got up and stretched, a big yawn escaping her. She picked up her bag and was about to leave the room until she heard a bang coming from the supply cupboard. She thought it must have been something that had fallen so she ignored it, until another bang was heard.
She went into the supply cupboard, her curiosity getting the better of her. She looked around the room, wondering where the bang might have come from. Suddenly, another bang was made, her attention going towards a metal box on the floor under a table. She walked towards it slowly, dropping her bag on the floor.
She stood in front of the metal box, staring down at it. She crouched down, holding the metal box, lifting it up slowly. A white mouse was revealed, a clear box with tiny holes going round the edges.
“Hello, little guy”, Ji-min cooed at the small animal, watching its tiny legs move around. Without thinking, she put her finger through one of the holes, trying to touch the mouse. Her finger got too close to the mouse, and the mouse didn’t like that, so it bit her finger. She yelped, taking her finger out the box, seeing the blood on the tip. That was when she noticed something was off about the mouse. It looked rabid.
“What are you doing?” a voice came from behind her, startling Ji-min. She got up and turned around, seeing the science teacher, Mr. Nam. “Nothing”, Ji-min stuttered, grabbing her bag and leaving the supply cupboard, going straight towards the exit.
Unfortunately she wasn’t able to leave as Mr. Nam grabbed her, pulling her back into the classroom, closing the door. She fell to the floor, seeing Mr. Nam grabbing a book. She tried to move backwards, but ended up hitting a table. Mr. Nam suddenly whacked a book over her head, knocking her out.
Mrs. Park was writing something on the blackboard, while you were staring down at your book. Instead of writing what was on the blackboard, you wrote depressing words on the page. ‘Die’, ‘freak’, ‘you’re not worth it’, and other depressing shit like that.
You can never catch a break from the bullying, whether it be physically or verbally. Your life at university wasn’t the only thing that was horrible, your home life was just as bad. Whenever you go back home for the holidays, you either get shouted out for no reason, insulted or completely ignored. Your siblings only talk to you when they want something, and both your parents never message you.
You were supposed to see them a week ago, but you didn’t, since you just couldn’t be bothered seeing them. You were tired of their bullshit and how they treated you so you thought if you didn’t see them or bother with them, they’d eventually forget about them.
At least you had your 8 best friends to keep you sane.
Ever since the bullying got worse, you had thoughts of suicide and just end it all, but you knew if you did that, you wouldn’t forgive yourself for putting your friends through that pain. But then again, is suicide really that selfish when your suffering gets too much?
Jeongin took a glance at your page, and saw what you wrote on it. He gently grabbed your wrist, making you look at him. You could see the concern in his eyes, the gentle look on his face making you tear up.
“Hey, instead of writing down those things, talk to me, yeah? Even if you just need to vent. Or you can talk to the others”, he said in a kind voice, which made you tear up even more. You were about to talk when there was a sudden bang on the door, and then it opened. It was Ji-min, and her face was bloody.
“Oh my god, Ji-min”, Mrs. Park said, catching Ji-min before she fell to the floor. A couple of students crowded around her, looking concerned and worried. “Ji-min, tell me what happened”, Mrs. Park said, hoping to get an answer out of her.
“T-the science teacher. He locked me in the supply cupboard a-and drugged me”, Ji-min gasped out, everyone showing shock on their faces. “Take her to the infirmary. Now”, Mrs. Park instructed, helping her up and two students leaving with them, going straight to the infirmary.
--------------------------------
Ji-min was lying on the bed in the infirmary, thrashing around as started growling, like an animalistic growl. It was scary to watch, but Mrs. Park and the nurse tried to keep calm, injecting Ji-min with a sedative to calm her down. She took her temperature, putting it in her ear. She read the reading, and it read 34.5°C. “Her temperature is really low”, she said, concerned”.
The sedative didn’t work for long though as she started thrashing around again after a few minutes. The nurse tried holding her down, her hands on both of Ji-min’s shoulders. Blood trickled down Ji-min’s nose, a scream leaving her. She looked at the nurse before biting her wrist, earning a yelp from the nurse.
“Oh my god, are you ok?!” Mrs. Park asked the nurse, Mrs. Jung, seeing her clutching her wrist. “She bit me”, Mrs. Jung said, wincing in pain. “Ok, I think we should call an ambulance. And the police”, Mrs. Park suggested, and one of the students got the phone out, calling both an ambulance and the police.
Back in the classroom, everyone was talking amongst themselves, mainly about Ji-min and the science teacher. “I knew there was something off about Mr. Nam”, one student said, “when he was teaching us the other day, I swear he smelled like death”, another student said.
“How do you know what death smells like? Have you seen a corpse before?” Minho asked the student, known as Jaehyuk. “I have actually. Not to be depressing but, my older sister went missing last year and I found her a couple of days later. Well, I found her body. So yeah, I know what death smells like”, he blurted out, the whole atmosphere in the classroom now dark.
“I’m sorry that you had to go through that”, you said, trying to comfort him. “Wait, didn’t his son go missing or something?” you remembered that there was a rumour about his son going missing and he had to take some time off because of it. He couldn’t have killed his own son. Could he?
You looked at the time on your phone, and it read 12pm, so you thought it would be a good idea to go and get some lunch. Your stomach agreed with you as it rumbled loudly, Felix looking at you and laughed.
“Hey, I haven’t eaten anything yet, don’t blame my stomach for rumbling”, you blurted out without thinking, immediately regretting it. “y/n, you know you shouldn’t skip breakfast. I know it’s hard, but please try and have some breakfast tomorrow, ok?” Chan said to you in a soft, but stern, voice. You only nodded at him, sadly smiling at him.
You’re not sure when it started but you’ve been skipping breakfast and dinner, only having lunch and snacks during the day. You know you should stop but you can’t, you’ve gotten into that mindset where you can’t change your eating habits. You’ve seen different doctors to try and help but they weren’t any help at all, they just said ‘try eating healthy foods’.
The amount of times you’ve been sick (or made yourself sick) because of it is too much, you’ve lost count. You’ve passed out numerous times, ending up in hospital and being put on a drip so you could get some nutrients in your body. Endless nights of crying because of stomach pains, or binge eating during the night and throwing it back up again. Bang Chan was the first person you told about your eating habits, crying while doing so. The first thing he did was hug you, bury your face in his neck, telling you that everything will be okay because you’re not alone to deal with it all.
You entered the cafeteria, Jeongin chatting your ear off. All you can do is smile at him, not really in the mood to talk. Luckily Jeongin is understanding, which you’re glad about. You got your food and sat down at an empty table, Jeongin and Felix sitting either side of you. Hyunjin sat opposite you, and you had to try your best not to stare at him. Or at least try and not make it obvious that you have feelings for him.
“Psst, y/n”, Felix whispered, getting your attention. You ate a piece of chicken, turning your head to look at Felix. He chuckled as he saw your puffed out cheeks. “What do you want?” you asked as soon as you swallowed the piece of chicken. “Are you going to tell Hyunjin that you like him?” he wiggled his eyebrows at you, you almost choked on your food, getting the others attention.
“Absolutely not. What if he rejects me?” you whispered to him, worried about the consequences. “Hey, you never know, he might feel the same way”, he said, glancing at Hyunjin. Hyunjin saw Felix glancing at him and then looked at you.
“What are you two talking about?”
“Nothing”, you replied immediately, kicking Felix’s shin before he could say anything. He smiled through the pain, holding his shin. “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine, unless I need to amputate my shin”, Felix dramatically said, fake crying. “Hey, I only kicked you”, you rolled your eyes, a small laugh leaving you.
“And it hurt”, he pouted, rubbing his shin.

Ji-min was on her way to the hospital, and Mr. Nam got arrested by the police, going to be questioned. Mrs. Jung was still in the infirmary, and she felt really cold. Her hands kept shaking, and her fingers kept twitching.
Blood trickled down her nose, the warm liquid dripping onto the floor. She got the thermometer, checking her temperature. It beeped and she checked the reading: 34.5°C. She felt like she couldn’t breathe as she started choking, coughing up blood. She soon passed out onto the floor, her body making a thud as it came into contact with the ground.
Taehyun’s ‘minions’ were walking past the infirmary, and saw Mrs. Jung, who was now standing with her back to the door. Her hair was a mess and her clothes were creased, her coat hanging off of her.
“What do you think is wrong with her? You recklon she’s hungover?” one of Taehyun’s friends, Woojin, said. The others laughed except Taehyun. Mrs. Jung turned around, her face bloody and veiny. She screamed and ran forward, hitting straight into the wall, flying backwards.
“Oh my god, she’s a freak”, one of the others said, Eunwoo. His laughter soon ceased as Mrs. Jung got up, her limbs bending backwards. She tackled Eunwoo to the ground, biting him in the neck. Woojin ran the other way, not wanting to be attacked, screaming his head off.
Eunwoo’s body thrashed around on the floor, his bones cracking. He soon got up, his face now bloody and eyes bloodshot. He ran after a couple of students who were in the process of getting away, but it was too late.
--------------------------------
You were putting your empty trays away, and you’re not sure whether to feel proud of yourself or feel guilty for eating a full meal. You were deep in thought, forgetting about the surroundings around you. That was until you felt a hand on your shoulder, bringing you back to reality.
“Hey, you ok?” it was Hyunjin, and he looked at you with a gentle gaze. You hesitated before answering, a sigh leaving your lips. “I don’t even know if I’m ok. Do I feel guilty about eating a full meal? I feel like I shouldn’t have and I-” you were cut off as Hyunjin brought you in for a hug.
You’ve never felt so warm in a hug before. The way his arms felt around you, the scent of his cologne, just everything felt so comforting. You started crying, quietly sobbing into his chest. He rubbed his hand up and down your back in a soothing manner.
The others looked at the two of you, cooing at the sight in front of them. Though the cooing stopped once they heard your sobbing, which was getting louder. Jeongin was about to go over to you and join the hug, but stopped once he heard screams coming from outside the cafeteria.
You pulled away from Hyunjin, looking at the exit of the cafeteria. You walked towards the sounds of the screaming, wondering what was going on out there. Someone came running into the cafeteria, but was tackled to the ground by someone, getting attacked by… you don’t even know what it was.
You froze, not knowing what to do. It was like something out of Train to Busan. Things (you’re not sure what to call them) piled up outside the glass door, bloody handprints on the glass.
“y/n, get away from there!” the sound of Hyunjin’s voice rang in your ears, but you couldn’t move. You were frozen in your spot, no matter how much you tried to move, you just couldn’t. The glass suddenly broke, everyone piling into the cafeteria. You felt yourself be able to move, turning on your heels and running in the other direction.
You ran to Hyunjin, grabbing his hand. Everyone was running around like headless chickens, trying to steer clear of the infected. You saw people getting bitten, who also turned into infected and it terrified you. You saw the others fighting off the infected, hitting them with random objects they found.
Suddenly, the sprinklers went off, water spraying everyone in the room. Hyunjin pulled you along, running up onto one of the tables. He glanced at the windows, trying to see if one of them were open and you could climb out of. He managed to find one, telling you and the others.
“We can get out of that window”, Hyunjin pointed at an open window, you looking in the direction he was pointing at. He was right, you were able to escape. You jumped from table to table, avoiding any infected. You made it to the open window, looking back to see if the others were following you. Everyone had followed you, except Minho. He was trying to get an infected off him, and he was struggling.
“Minho!” Jisung shouted, immediately going to help him. He jumped off the table and ran towards Minho, kicking the infected in the head, getting him off him. Jisung helped Minho up, both of them running towards you.
You ushered everyone out the window, the only people left now were you, Hyunjin and Jeongin.
“Jeongin, you go first”, you pushed him towards the window, lifting him up so he could get out easier. He jumped down, running after the others. “Hyunjin, you go next”, you wanted to ensure he was safe so you wanted him to go first. Unfortunately he was stubborn, so he didn’t listen to you.
“Nu uh, you go next”, he didn’t give you time to answer back as he lifted you up, helping you out the window. You waited for him to get out, your body shaking. You saw infected running everywhere, and you felt terrified.
“Hurry up, Jinnie!” you got impatient, wanting him to get out now. He soon got out, jumping down from the window. He held your hand again, running in different directions, trying not to run into infected.
You ran down an alleyway which, luckily, has no infected in it. The alleyway took you straight to the front of the building. A truck headed towards you, the driver inside it losing all control of himself. The both of you managed to get out the way before the truck hit the building, the driver getting out. He turned, becoming one of the infected.
“Hey, we can get up there”, Hyunjin suggested, pointing at the truck. You saw there was a way inside, an open window. You climbed the truck as fast as you could, climbing in through the window.
You soon realised that was a bad idea as you saw more infected people, and they were running towards you. The both of you ran, not stopping even for a moment. Luckily you realised you were close to your classroom, only a staircase away.
You ran up the stairs, not letting go of Hyunjin’s hand, even if your hand was starting to get sweaty. As you reached the top step, you accidentally tripped, falling to the ground. Hyunjin helped you up, kicking one of the infected in the face before it grabbed your ankle, knocking them over.
You were now only a couple of feet away from the classroom, and you felt your hand slipping away from Hyunjin’s. Before that could even happen, Hyunjin grabbed your wrist, tight enough so you wouldn't slip away but gentle enough so he wouldn’t hurt you.
You entered the classroom, seeing other people inside. You never felt so glad to see other people who weren’t infected. You immediately ran over to Jeongin, hugging him. He hugged you back, crying into the crook of your neck. You saw him like a little brother, wanting nothing more than to protect him.
“y/n, Hyunjin, I’m so glad the both of you are safe”, Chan said, going up to the both of you, hugging you tightly. You looked around the room, seeing who was in the room: Chan, Jeongin, Jaehyuk, Seungmin, Felix, Changbin, another two students who you didn’t really talk to by the name of Yuna and Nayeon.
Yuna was ok as an individual, but Nayeon? She was a bit of a bitch. Always tried to get her own way, always talking shit about anyone she didn’t like, no matter if she knew them or not. You’re surprised no one has tried to put her in her place yet. Maybe people were either too tired of her shit, or they just didn’t want to deal with her.
“Wait, where’s Minho and Jisung?” you asked, worry evident in your voice. You looked around the room to try and see if they were hiding somewhere, planning to prank you by jumping out or something, but they were nowhere to be found.
“Probably making out somewhere”, Seungmin said out of nowhere, making everyone snort. All of a sudden, a thud was heard at the door, a hand hitting the door. “Hey, open the door”, the voice belonged to Jisung, and Hyunjin immediately opened the door, letting the two inside.
“What the hell is on your face?”Seungmin asked as he looked at Minho’s face, Minho wiping his face with a towel he found. “Someone was using the hose outside on those things out there, but accidentally aimed at me in the process and got foam on me”, Minho said, looking at Jisung with a glare.
“Hey, it’s not my fault I have no sense of coordination”
“Barricade the doors so no one can get in”, you suggested, and everyone went to grab chairs and tables to put up against both doors so no one could get in. Nearly all the tables and chairs were barricading the doors, a few tables and chairs were in their usual place.
Once you were sure no one was going to get in, you sat down, resting your legs after running for so long. You noticed everyone in the room had blood on their clothes, as well as their faces. You wonder how bad it was outside of the building, wondering how many are now infected. You hoped you guys weren’t the only ones who weren’t infected.
“Does anyone have a phone on them?”, Yuna asked, her voice timid and quiet. Luckily everyone around heard her, and they checked in their pockets for their phone.
“I have my phone on me”, Hyunjin said, holding his phone in his hand. The screen was slightly cracked due to accidentally falling on his side, but it still works thankfully.
“Try and call for help, I’m not dying in here”, Yuna said, hoping at least someone would come and rescue everyone, getting them out of this hell hole. Hyunjin called the emergency services, waiting for someone to answer.
“Emergency services here, how can I help?” the person on the other end answered, Hyunjin sighing in relief. “Hi, uhm, I’m at Seoul University and there are zombies running around everywhere and we’re trapped inside a classroom, please send help”, Hyunjin’s voice was filled with fright, tears filling up in his eyes.
“Zombies? Oh please, have you been watching too many horror movies? This line is for emergencies only, please don’t give us that shit”, and he hung up, the line going dead. Hyunjin screamed, throwing his phone across the room, the phone hitting the wall.
The thing is, that wasn’t the only call the emergency services got. As soon as they hung up on Hyunjin, there were more phone calls about zombies running round the university, and everyone in the emergency department realised that it wasn’t a prank, and was, in fact, real.
“No one is going to rescue us and we’re going to die here”, Hyunjin cried out, scared for his life. You stood in front of him, putting your hands on his shoulders, and shook him gently. “We are not going to die here, ok? If need be, we can make our own escape”, you said, reassuring him.
Suddenly, the sound of Mrs. Park’s voice was heard through the speakers.
“If anyone can hear me, it’s Mrs. Park. I have no idea what’s going on but, I’m terrified”, you could hear the way her voice cracks between every word she says. “I really hope you got out and escaped. Please get out while you can and get help”, she continued on about how this is all about fighting for survival and how she feels useless about how she wasn’t able to save everyone.
“Hey, Mrs. Park is in the broadcasting room. Minho, isn’t that below this room?” you asked him, and he nodded. “We can use the hose as a rope and use that to get to the broadcasting room”, Jisung suggested, and everyone seemed to agree with him. Well, almost everyone. The only person who didn’t agree with Jisung was Jaehyuk.
“No offence Jisung but, that seems like a stupid idead”, he said, his voice that was once calm was now replaced with a voice filled with hatred. “Well, have you got a better idea? Huh? Please, give me something better than that”, Jisung spat, walking towards him. Minho stopped him though, seeing blood trickling down Jaehyuk’s nose.
“Jisung, don’t go near him. He’s infected”, Minho said, pointing at the bite mark on his leg. Why didn’t anyone notice that?
Jaehyuk walked forward, his legs giving way and falling to the ground. His body twitched, his legs bending backwards as he got up. Everyone screamed as he got up, Minho picking up a chair and hitting Jaehyuk with it. He pushed him towards the window, but Jaehyuk was too strong.
“Guys, help me!” Minho pleaded, and some of the guys immediately went to help him. Nayeon just stayed in a corner, not doing anything. She just sat there while everyone else did all the work.
Jaehyuk was surrounded by people, a chair trapping him by the window. “Nothing’s working! What do we do?” Minho was struggling to push Jaehyuk out the window, and he felt tired. Jeongin was sitting on one of the tables, and he came up with an idea.
“Guys, move out of the way on the count of three, ok?” Jeongin said, and everyone looked at him with confusion. God, I hope I don’t regret this, he thought to himself. “Jeongin, whatever it is you’re planning, you’re an idiot for thinking it”, Minho shouted, and Jeongin just nodded in agreement.
“One, two… THREE”, and at that, everyone moved out of the way, Jeongin running forward while yelling, pushing Jaehyuk, his body going straight out the window, the glass breaking. His body came into contact with the ground, making a loud thud.
“Jeongin, you stupid”, you said to him, hitting his chest gently before hugging him tightly, just glad that he’s ok. He’s always been reckless like that, and yet, he’s still alive. The boy must have luck following him around or something.
“So, uh, now what?” Jisung said, scratching his head. Hey, at least with the glass broken, it was easier to get out of.
“That poor guy. He didn’t deserve that. He was trying to survive himself and he got bit in the process”, Yuna said, a single tear rolling down her cheek. “Guess he didn’t try hard enough”, Nayeon spoke up, everyone’s attention going straight to her.
“Excuse me? Listen here, little miss bitch face. You literally sat on your fucking ass while we were trying to stop him. Like Yuna said, he was trying to survive and tried his fucking hardest so pipe it down”, Seungmin said, not having her shit.
“Don’t have a go at me for telling the truth”, Nayeon argued back, rolling her eyes. Seungmin scoffed at her behaviour, walking over to her. “You should be glad that I don’t hit girls”, he said, his voice an octave deeper, sending a chill down her spine.
“Before you guys start fighting, who’s going to go outside and get the hose?” Jisung asked, hoping that the hose is still where he dropped it before. “I’ll do it”, Hyunjin volunteered, going towards the door to move the tables and chairs.
“Wait, why you? I wanted to volunteer”, Changbin said, helping Hyunjin to move the tables and chairs. “Because I have long limbs and you don’t”, Hyunjin said, making Changbin speechless.
“HEY, was that a joke about my height?!”
Hyunjin opened the door slightly, sticking his arm out to try and grab the hose, his fingers barely reaching it. He tried again, stretching his fingers further, and managed to grab the hose, pulling it inside the classroom and closed the door.
He continued to pull the hose until he couldn’t pull anymore, the entire hose now inside the room. “Tie knots in it. Make sure they’re big enough so a hand and foot can go inside it”, you suggested, and that’s what everyone did.
Once you were sure there were enough holes in the hose, you threw the hose outside, dropping it down. “Who’s going first?” you asked, and everyone looked at Seungmin. “Wait, why do I have to go first?” Seungmin whined, his voice cracking towards the end. Even though he seemed like he objected to going first, he still went.
“If I fall and die, I’m going to haunt you all”, Seungmin said, going down the makeshift rope, being careful as to not miss one of the holes and end up falling to his death. He muttered to himself about how he should have stayed in bed and not get up for lectures, but he would have been lectured by Chan if he did that.
In the broadcasting room, Mrs. Park was checking through the windows of the classroom, making sure that there were no zombies about. There was a knock at the window which caught her attention, making her turn her head towards the window.
She saw a hose nozzle, which was banging against the window, and then she saw Seungmin coming down, and she immediately ran towards the window to open it, helping him inside. “Oh my god, I’m so glad you’re ok”, she said as she hugged him, Seungmin melted into the hug, wrapping his arms around her. The last time he had a hug that warm was from his mum. God, he missed his mum.
“Where are the others?”, she asked, looking outside the window. “They’re upstairs back in the classroom, and they’ll all be coming down soon”, he replied, looking out the window to see who was the next person to come down.
Everyone went down one by one, leaving only you and Hyunjin to go down. “y/n, you go next”, Hyunjin said, helping you up onto the window sill. “Please don’t be too long, ok?” you told him and started going down, being careful with every step you take.
Hyunjin checked between the door and you, and it was stressing him out. Every time he looked between you and the door, the zombies got inside the classroom slowly, inch by inch. The moment he saw you go inside through the window, he climbed up on top of the window sill and as soon as he did, the door burst open, zombies running towards him. One zombie charged at him, going straight outside the window, pulling Hyunjin with them.
Hyunjin’s body did a flip, his hand catching the makeshift rope just in time, holding it for dear life, watching zombies falling to the ground. “Quick, pull him inside '', Mrs. Park said, grabbing his legs and pulling him inside.
The moment you saw Hyunjin, you ran up to him, wrapping your arms around him. “Now what do we do?” Felix said, sitting on a chair in the corner of the room.
Everyone sat down for a while, not doing anything. The only thing that could be heard was the sound of screaming in the distance, and the sound of the hose nozzle banging on the window. Wait, banging on the window?
You looked at the window, and saw the hose nozzle swinging quickly, and the glass suddenly smashed, frightening everyone. Mrs. Park got up and inspected the window, and that’s when a zombie appeared, hanging down on the makeshift rope.
“Quick, get that thing off the window”, Seungmin shouted, trying to push the zombie away but nothing was working. Hyunjin picked up a mop and tried pushing the zombie with it, using the end of the mop. That was until the zombie grabbed the stick, snapping it in half.
“What the fuck?” Hyunjin said, looking at the now broken mop. “Here, give it to me”, Chan said, taking the stick of Hyunjin. He moved his arm back as he used the stick like a javelin, accidentally hitting Seungmin in the nose with the base of the stick, knocking him backwards.
Chan threw the stick, aiming it right into the zombie’s shoulder, pushing it in deeper, blood oozing out. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough to push the zombie off, as the zombie grabbed the edge of the window, pushing forward. Seungmin ran to help, trying to take the zombie’s hand off the edge.
Seungmin looked behind him at the computer monitor on the table and ran to grab it. “Hey, move out of the way”, he yelled, both Chan and Hyunjin moving out of the way. Seungmin threw the computer at the zombie, knocking it down, the zombie falling to the ground with a thud.
Everyone sighed out of relief once the zombie’s body dropped, Chan putting the stick back in the corner. “Why did you have to throw the computer?” Changbin asked Seungmin, glaring at him. “What, you wanted me to throw you instead?” Seungmin retorted back, shutting Changbin up.
Suddenly, blood trickled down Seungmin’s nose, alerting everyone. “Seungmin, your nose is bleeding”, Jeongin said, concern evident in his voice. Everyone took a step back from him as soon as they saw, making him confused. “Guys, Chan hit me in the face with the stick”, he said, trying to reassure everyone.
“Then what’s that on your hand, huh?” Nayeon spoke up, pointing at the mark on his hand. There was a scratch on his hand. “I’m not bitten, ok? Does this look like a bite? No, it’s a scratch. You have to believe me, please”, he pleaded.
“Please leave, Seungmin”, Nayeon said, pointing to the door. “I am not infected, for fucks sake”, he shouted at her, lunging at her. Chan stopped him, holding him back. “What do you have against me, huh? Why do you hate me so much?” Seungmin asked Nayeon, anger evident on his face.
“I just do, I don’t need to give a reason”, she said, rolling her eyes. “No please, tell us why you hate Seungmin so much, Nayeon'', you said, crossing your arms. “Did you guys know that Seungmin’s parents are poor?” Nayeon blurted out, anger seething off Seungmin.
“So what if his parents are poor? That doesn’t make us hate him, you’re just cruel”, Hyunjin said, everyone agreeing with him. “It’s their own fault they are poor”, Nayeon muttered under her breath, but you managed to hear her.
Without thinking, you walked up to her and slapped her, Nayeon holding her cheek. “You better watch your mouth, unless you want to be thrown to the zombies”, you threatened, glaring at her. She just scoffed and sat back down.
“I still don’t feel safe with him in the room”, Nayeon said, referring to Seungmin. He just rolled his eyes, really hating her guts right now. “If you don’t feel safe here, why don’t you just leave?” Seungmin said, getting more and more annoyed as the minutes passed.
“Stop it, you’re both not helping the situation by arguing”, Mrs. Park said, stopping the both of them before a full blown fight broke out. “Nayeon, apologise to Seungmin for what you said”, Mrs. Park said, referring to what Nayeon said about Seungmin’s parents.
“Why should I apologise when it’s true?” she said, not backing down. Mrs. Park just sighed, realising she’s not going to get anywhere with how Nayeon is acting. “Would it make you feel better if Seungmin sat in the recording room for 30 minutes?” Mrs. Park suggested, getting everyone’s attention.
“Wait, what? I told you, I’m not bitten”, Seungmin was getting really frustrated, and he wanted to pull his hair out. “I’m sorry we have to do this Seungmin”, Mrs. Park’s voice was sympathetic. “Nayeon, if he doesn’t turn after the 30 minutes, go in there and apologise”, Mrs. Park said, and Nayeon hesitated before agreeing, saying she will.
Seungmin thought about it for a moment, and took up the offer of staying in the recording room. “I’ll stay in there for the full hour”, he said, opening the door and heading inside, closing the door behind him.
“I don’t think he needs 30 minutes since it only takes a few minutes for you to turn”, Changbin said, everyone making sounds of confirmation as they agreed.
It had already been a couple of minutes since Seungmin went into the recording room, and everyone was tense. Nayeon felt eyes on her, but she ignored them. She was staring at the broken mop in the corner, noticing the blood on the top of it.
30 minutes had passed, and Seungmin heard a knock on the glass. He turned around and saw Hyunjin in the window. He started making funny faces in the window, trying to make Seungmin laugh. Luckily it was working because Seungmin had a big grin on his face, making funny faces back at him. Whenever Hyunjin felt one of the guys, and you, were upset, he always ended up doing something silly to cheer them up, and 9 times out of 10, it worked.
The two of them were laughing with each other, and Hyunjin was glad that the younger one was now smiling. Seungmin gave Hyunjin the middle finger with a big grin on his face, Hyujin faking a gasp.
Hyunjin gestured for Seungmin to come out as it had been 30 minutes, but he shook his head, sticking with staying in there for the whole hour. Hyunjin sighed and turned back around, going to sit back down.
“He’s very adamant about staying for the whole hour”, he said, sitting next to you. Mrs. Park walked over to where Nayeon was sitting, and crouched down to her level. “Nayeon, it’s been 30 minutes. Remember our promise?” she said, hoping Nayeon stuck to it.
Nayeon sighed and got up, going into the recording room. She opened the door and closed it once she was inside, going over to Seungmin, whose back was facing her. Everyone looked through the window, wanting to see what would happen between the two.
“Yah”, Nayeon said, getting Seungmin’s attention. He turned around and looked at her, his facial expression unreadable. “What? Are you coming to start on me again?” Seungmin said, rolling his eyes. Nayeon grabbed Seungmin’s hand, seeing the scratch on his hand. She put her hand in the pocket of her skirt, pulling out a handkerchief. She dabbed it on his hand, Seungmin watching her as she did it.
“I’m not apologising, by the way”, she said, Seungmin looking up at her. “It really is your parents fault that they’re poor. Your mum with her alcohol problems and dad with his gambling. People who have addictions like that only have themselves to blame”, her words were infuriating, Seungmin wanting nothing more than for her to just leave.
After she finished dabbing the handkerchief on his hand, muttered something under her breath and left. As soon as she closed the door behind her, Seungmin got up and chased after her. “Yah, you want to say that again? I didn’t hear you properly”, he said, slamming the door closed. Chan and Minho held Seungmin back, stopping him from getting any closer to Nayeon in case he did something he regrets.
“I said I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up getting an addiction like your parents”, she said, a smirk on her face. “Fuck you”, Seungmin spat as he pushed Chan and Minho off him, walking towards the window.
“Seungmin, your nose is bleeding”, Yuna said, pointing at him. She was right, blood was trickling down his nose. Seungmin looked down at his hands and saw them starting to change, veins bulging out of the skin.
“Seungmin…”, Jeongin said, walking towards him. “Please don’t come any closer”, Seungmin cried, his legs on the verge of giving out. “I’m scared”, tears were streaming down his face as he stopped himself from falling, grabbing onto the nearest surface.
“I told you he was infected”, Nayeon said.
“Shut up for once”, Jeongin spat at her, anger taking over him. “Do you ever shut up? That’s literally all you do, making snide remarks here and there and you never do anything useful”, Jeongin said, not holding back on his anger.
“Please stop”, Seungmin yelled, not caring if he’s making too much noise. “I’ll leave”, he said, making his way towards the door, grabbing onto different surfaces so he doesn’t fall. He made it to the door, but his legs suddenly gave up on him, and he fell to the floor, leaning up against the door.
Voices in his head clouded his thoughts, calling him pathetic, a freak, and other stuff like that. He put his hands over his ears, trying to get the voices to stop. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry”, he cried, tears streaming down his face as he screamed, wanting the voices to stop.
It was difficult to watch, seeing one of your best friends who you’ve known for years go mad like that. It was terrifying yet so sad. Jeongin went to walk over to him, but Hyunjin stopped him, holding his arm.
Suddenly, Seungmin changed and his limbs bent backwards, using his hand to push himself up. He looked at Jeongin and yelled, running straight at him. Minho grabbed a chair and whacked Seungmin over the head, pushing him to the floor.
“Seungmin, please stop it!” Minho said as he tried to stop Seungmin, holding him down. The sound of whistling caught everyone’s attention, seeing Jeongin near the window, holding the makeshift rope. The song he was whistling was a song that he and Seungmin used to whistle a lot when they were younger.
Seungmin focused on the whistling, looking towards the window, and saw Jeongin. Jeongin still had tears streaming down his face as he continued to whistle. Seungmin charged at him, and Jeongin gripped the makeshift rope, and jumped out the window before Seungmin had a chance to grab him. He watched as his body fell to the ground, Seungmin thrashing around on the grass. He got up and ran, running towards other zombies, blending in with them, his shadowing following behind him.
Jeongin went back inside, not knowing how to feel after losing his best friend (well, one of his best friends). His tears had stopped and he felt numb. He sat down on one of the empty chairs, putting his knees to his chest and buried his face in them.
“Now do you believe me?” Nayeon spoke, standing up from where she was sitting. Yuna got up and walked over to Nayeon, standing in front of her. “I saw what you did, you know?” she said, making everyone confused.
“I saw you wipe your handkerchief on the bloody stick in the corner, and you dabbed Seungmin’s hand with it”, Yuna said, Nayeon scoffing at her. “How can you prove that?” Nayeon said, getting closer to Yuna.
“Take it out of your pocket”
“No”
“Shall I do it for you?”
Yuna tried taking the handkerchief out of Nayeon’s pocket, but Nayeon pushed her away. “Yah, who do you think you are? Do you think you’re so special or something?” and after Nayeon said that, she felt a harsh slap on her face. Yuna stared at her and grabbed the handkerchief from Nayeon, holding it up for everyone to see.
“Nayeon killed Seungmin. She’s a murderer”, Yuna said, and everyone looked at Nayeon in horror. Jeongin lifted his head up, looking straight at Nayeon. “I want you to leave. Now”, Jeongin’s voice was filled with anger and hurt.
“No”, Nayeon snapped, not making any moves to leave. Jeongin got up and lunged at Nayeon, Nayeon hiding her face with her arms. Before Jeongin could reach Nayeon, Hyunjin stopped him, but Jeongin tried to get him off him.
“You better move or I’ll move you myself”, Jeongin threatened, and Nayeon suddenly felt scared of him. Nayeon started crying, tears streaming down her face. “I really have no friends”, Nayeon cried, wiping her face with her hands. “If you weren’t such a bitch, you would have friends”, Jeongin muttered under his breath, but Nayeon heard. And so did Mrs. Park.
“Jeongin, stop it. Nayeon, don’t go anywhere”, Mrs. Park said, trying to get Nayeon to stay but it was no use. Nayeon opened the door and left, walking through the dark hallways, tears streaming down her face as she sobbed.
Mrs. Park followed after Nayeon, shutting the door behind her. “Uhm, guys, I know this isn’t the most appropriate time to ask this but uh, does anyone else need the bathroom?” Jisung asked, breaking the silence.
“Really Jisung?” Chan said, glaring at him. Jisung sat back down in his seat, feeling embarrassed about his question. “Actually, I kinda need the bathroom too”, you confessed, making Jisung feel slightly less embarrassed.
Others even said that they need the bathroom too, and that was the subject of the conversation between everyone. “Well, we can’t exactly go to the bathroom, can we? There are zombies roaming around”, Felix said, scratching the back of his neck.
“We can poop out the window”, Jisung said, making everyone look at him as if to say ‘due, seriously?’ “Hey, it was only a suggestion”, Jisung sunk back into his chair, feeling deflated. “We can use the recording room as a temporary bathroom”, Yuna suggested, and everyone seemed to like that idea. Everyone got to work turning it into a temporary bathroom.
It’s been about an hour and everyone has done their business, and now they’re all feeling exhausted. No one knows how long it’s been since the outbreak happened, everyone has lost track of time.
“Does anyone have any water? I’m thirsty”, Changbin said, sticking his tongue out like a dog. Unfortunately no one had any water, and that made him sulk. “You can last 4 minutes without oxygen, 3 days without water and up to 3 weeks without food”, Yuna said, playing with her fingers as she sat in the corner.
“Well, let’s just hope we can find some water before that happens”, Chan said. “But first, why don’t we get some sleep?” and everyone agreed.
Everyone had been asleep for a few hours now, except for you. Even though you were tired, you couldn’t seem to fall asleep. Your mind wouldn’t seem to switch off, no matter how hard you tried.
The sound of helicopters whirred in the distance, small spots of light in the dark sky. They’ve been hovering around for the past hour or so, going back and forth. Zombies running around, coming from different directions, the faint sounds of them screaming.
The sound of movement could be heard from behind you, and you felt a presence beside you. Jeongin stood beside you, looking outside. There were no words spoken, only silence. Though that silence didn’t last long as Jeongin tried to climb out of the window.
“What are you doing?!” you said, stopping him from jumping. “What’s the point of living in a world where everyone is either dying or becoming those things out there?” Jeongin’s voice was full of pain, and you could see tears welling up in his eyes.
Jeongin is the youngest out of all of you, and he’s always been sensitive to everything. If someone insulted him, he would think about it for days and go into a dark place, until one of you had to bring him out of it by distracting him from the hurtful words. His smile could literally light up a room and it brightens up anyone’s day, so whenever you see him not smiling, you know something is wrong.
When he has troubles on his mind, the first person he goes to is Chan, talking to him about what’s bothering him, and hoping Chan would help him. 9 times out of 10, Chan would manage to help him overcome the things bothering him, and Jeongin has always been thankful for Chan because of that.
As soon as you saw his tear filled eyes, you pulled him in for a hug. He buried his face in your neck, sobbing quietly as you ran your fingers through his hair. Whenever you run your fingers through his hair, it always calms him down, no matter the situation.
After a few minutes, his crying died down as he pulled away from you. He dried his eyes with the sleeve of his sweater, little sniffles escaping him every now and then. “You ok now?” you asked him, looking at him with gentle eyes. He nodded as he gave you a small smile, and he went back to his spot on the floor, lying down as he tried to fall back asleep. You also decided to try and get some sleep, going to sit beside Hyunjin, tiny snores escaping him, making you smile. You rested your head on his shoulder, closing your eyes and drifting off to sleep not long after.
--------------------------------
Sunrays shone into the classroom, waking everyone up. As everyone woke up and stretched, the sound of zombies could now be heard outside the classroom, startling everyone.
“Guess we’re no longer safe in here”, Chan said, getting up. “How are we going to leave without the zombies seeing us?” you asked, going towards the door and glancing out the window. There were zombies everywhere, you would need all of them to move into one place in order for all of you to leave. That’s when you thought of an idea.
“Hey, zombies are attracted to sound, right? I mean, there are speakers throughout the building”, you said, and everyone seemed to get what you were trying to say. “That’s a good idea y/n but, where are we going to get music?” Minho asked, and that’s when you picked up a couple of CD’s.
“We can use a CD and play it throughout the building, and hope for the best that they follow the sound and stay near the speakers”, you said, and everyone seemed to agree that your idea was plausible.
You headed into the recording room, testing the microphone first to see if it’s still working, and thankfully it does. You put one of the CD’s into the monitor, hooking it up to the speakers. Yuna played with the recording console to check the sound and volume of the music, and checked it was working properly.
As soon as the music started playing through the speakers, all the zombies ran towards the nearest speaker, huddling together near it. Well, almost all the zombies. There was still one zombie right outside the classroom, banging their head against the wall.
“What do we do with that one?” Jeongin said, looking back at you. “It’s not going anywhere, it’s just staying where it is”.
“Maybe the zombie is deaf”, Jisung said, and everyone looked at him like he just grew a second head. “Can zombies be deaf?” Minho asked out of nowhere, making you snort. “Do I look like I know the answer to that question?”
Chan opened the door slowly, revealing the zombie, who was still banging his head against the wall. Everyone made it out of the classroom slowly and carefully, trying not to make any noise. You all tiptoed past the zombie, but Changbin accidentally kicked something on the floor, making a loud bang.
You stood still, fearing for the worst. The zombie slowly turned around, and faced you. “Run!” Chan said, and you all ran towards the stairs. You ran up the stairs, trying not to trip as you ran away from the zombie. As Changbin ran up the stairs, he unfortunately tripped on the last step, falling to the ground. He crawled away from the zombie as it got closer to him, his back hitting the wall.
The zombie suddenly jumped on top of him, Changbin using all his strength to stop the zombie from biting him. Blood dripped from the zombie's mouth onto Changbin’s face, and he gave a face of disgust.
Suddenly, a knife went straight through the zombie’s head, and the zombie was lifted off of Changbin. Changbin looked up and saw Taehyun, blood all over him and overall, he looked like shit.
“Yo. what the fuck happened to you?” Changbin asked as he got up, Taehyun dropping the now dead zombie on the floor, twirling the knife around. Taehyun pointed the knife at Changbin, threatening to stab him with it as he laughed.
“You guys really are a bunch of freaks, aren’t you? I feel like a superhero”, Taehyun said, walking towards Changbin. “I don’t think superheroes are supposed to be intimidating and scary”, Changbin said, fearing for his life as he continued to stare at the knife pointing at him.
“Let’s see how brave you are with blood pouring out of you”, and at that, Taehyun swung the knife at Changbin, and Changbin felt glad that he learned Taekwondo, and he kicked the knife out of his hand, which shocked Taehyun.
“You little fucker”, taehyun snarled, grabbing Changbin and pushed him against the wall. Taehyun suddenly felt himself being pulled off of Changbin. He turned around and saw Yuna glaring at him. “Who do you think you are, constantly bullying people, huh?! Grow up and fuck off”, Yuna said, her timid and quiet voice replaced with a loud voice, filled with anger.
“Don’t speak to me like that, you fucking bitch”, and Taehyun grabbed Yuna by her hair, pushing her against the wall. She struggled against him, and he grabbed her arm and bit it, a scream leaving Yuna.
Changbin pushed Taehyun off of Yuna, using all the strength he had and Taehyun was pushed out of the window, his body making a thud as it hit the ground. Changbin grabbed Yuna’s hand, running up the stairs and caught up with the others, running into a classroom and closed the door behind them.
You all barricaded the doors, making sure that the doors were barricaded enough so nothing could get it. When you were sure they were barricaded enough, you all sat back down on any seat that was left.
“Yuna, what happened to your arm?” Jisung asked as he glanced at her arm. Everyone whipped their heads to Yuna, noticing the bite mark on her arm. “Taehyun bit me”, she said, covering her arm with her hand.
“Wait, Jung Taehyun? Well, shit”, you said, gripping your hair. You paced around the room, trying to calm yourself down. “If he bit you then that means he’s alive and he might come after me and torment me again and I-” you were cut off by Yuna.
“y/n, breathe, it looks like you’re about to have a panic attack”, she said, trying to calm you down and luckily it worked. You sat back down and held your head in your hands. “Uhm, can I say something?” Changbin put his hand up slowly, wanting to say something.
“While I was fighting with Taehyun, he looked different”, he explained, a confused look on his face. “Different, how?” Chan asked, wanting Changbin to elaborate. “Well, he looked like a zombie but also not? I don’t know, I can’t exactly explain it”, Changbin said, still holding Yuna’s hand.
“If Taehyun was bitten, and he bit Yuna, doesn’t that mean Yuna could turn?” Chan asked, and everyone looked at Yuna. “It really depends on how long ago he was bitten. Besides, Changbin pushed him out the window so, he’s probably dead now”, Yuna said, and hearing Yuna say that made you feel a bit safer. Is Taehyun really dead?
“What if Yuna does end up turning though?” Hyunjin said, and everyone looked at him. “I mean, it’s a possibility, since Changbin said Taehyun could have been bitten”, he explained himself.
“Well, if that happens, I’ll let her bite me and we’ll leave together”, Changbin said, tying his and Yuna’s wrists together, ensuring that the ribbon was tight enough. “You don’t have to do that Changbin. I could have just left you guys by myself”, Yuna said, looking up at him.
“I wanted to”, Changbin said, looking down at her with a small smile. She smiled back at him and held his hand. The sound of zombies could be heard outside the classroom, bloody handprints on the glass.
Everyone was sitting in a circle, apart from Changbin and Yuna, who were sitting far away from the group. Jisung saw a camcorder on the table in front of him, and picked it up. If no one ends up coming to rescue them then, making a video for their family is the right thing to do, right?
“Mom, Dad, it’s me. I hope you’re ok and not, you know, running round doing stupid shit like you normally do. Really, you both need to catch a break. Anyway, I miss you and if I don’t end up getting rescued, I love you. I love you both very much and miss you so much”, Jisung started crying by the end and ended the recording, passing it onto the next person, which was Minho.
“Mom, keep my cats safe otherwise I will go crazy”, that’s all that he said. The camcorder was passed around to everyone, saying something for their parents, and it was then passed on to you.
You pointed the camcorder on yourself, pressing record. You sat there in silence for a moment, not knowing what to say. Your family didn’t care about you, what were you supposed to say? You took a deep breath before speaking.
“Mom, Dad, if you end up seeing this, I’m sorry. Sorry for not being perfect like my siblings are, sorry for not being up to your standards. I know I’m not perfect but, is anyone really perfect? My friends aren’t perfect but that’s ok because I love them. Why couldn’t you do the same thing for me? Whenever I didn’t get great grades in school, you never told me ‘it’s ok, you can try again next time’, I got a slap instead and locked away in my room. All I ever asked for was your love and attention but I never got that, and the only attention I got was you guys always insulting me”, you were crying at this point, wiping your tears away, but no matter how many times you wiped them away, more and more continued to fall down your face. “Do you know how many times I wanted to end it all? Even if I did, I bet you wouldn’t even care, or even notice. I’m glad that I actually have people who care about me, and they’re the people who kept me sane and made me stay, even if I did want to leave. I both love and hate you”, and you stopped recording, got up and passed the camcorder to Yuna.
Little did you know, while you guys were filming yourselves on the camcorder, Nayeon was in the storage cupboard, listening to everything you said. She heard the pain in Jeongin’s voice when he spoke about Seungmin, and she felt a pang of guilt in her heart. She wanted to go outside and apologise, wanting to change, but she stopped once she heard her name being mentioned.
“If Nayeon didn’t murder Seungmin, everything would be ok but nothing is ok. We’re living in a fucking zombie apocalypse, which is only supposed to happen in films and tv shows but I guess not. That bitch ruined everything”, Jeongin said, not holding back as he ranted, saying everything that was on his mind. No one made any move to stop him, just in case he accidentally lashed out on them.
“I’m really hungry” you said, holding your stomach as it growled angrily. Everyone’s else's stomach also growled, you haven’t eaten in a while. Nayeon looked at the shelves, seeing them full of cans of soda and bags of food. She wanted to give some food and drinks to them but she couldn’t face them. Not just yet.
Suddenly, the sound of helicopters could be heard in the distance, and you looked out the window. They were far away, but you could see that they were circling the area, probably trying to look for survivors.
“Hey, do you think if we get to the roof, do you think we would be able to be rescued? If we get the helicopters attention, that is”, you said, pointing to the helicopters. “I mean, that sounds like a good idea but we're surrounded by zombies. We’d have to get all the zombies surrounding this area into one spot for us to leave”, Felix said, and you felt he was onto something.
“That could actually work, you know”, Chan said, coming up with something. He then thought of an idea as he grabbed a table. “If we put everything together in the middle of the room, making a barrier between us and them, we could get all of them in here and then we can leave”, Chan explained, and everyone agreed that was a good idea.
Everyone got to work putting everything together, placing tables, chairs, anything they found in the room, in the middle. They put everything on top of each other, ensuring it was high enough so the zombies couldn’t get to them.
You worked in pairs, helping each other to put chairs and tables together. Once the barrier of chairs and tables was finished, you all stood back and made sure it looked ok. You were on different sides of the barrier, but luckily there was space for you to jump over. You, Felix, and Chan jumped over to the other side, but Hyunjin stayed.
“W-what are you doing?” you stuttered, worried that Hyunjin wasn’t going with you. “Someone needs to open the door”, he said, and you sighed out of relief. “I’ll stay with you”, Jeongin said, jumping over to the other side. Jeongin stood near the door, waiting to open it. He waited for a moment before opening the door, running to jump over the makeshift barrier.
As the zombies came piling in you all held the makeshift barrier, ensuring that it didn't collapse. Felix was at the other door, checking to see how many more zombies there were, waiting for them to stop coming so he could open the door.
“Felix, how many more are there?!” Jeongin shouted, struggling to hold up the makeshift barrier as more and more zombies came piling in. “There’s still a few more to go!” Felix answered, getting more and more stressed as the minutes passed.
Zombies climbed the makeshift barrier, trying to grab you. You picked up an object, hitting zombies with it. Everyone else did the same, trying to get the zombies down before they climbed over.
Felix looked outside and saw there were no more zombies coming, and he shouted. “Let’s go!” and he opened the door. Minho and Jisung were the first out the door, using the remaining of their energy. Changbin and Yuna were the next ones out the door, and then Chan and Felix followed after him. You, Jeongin and Hyunjin were the last ones in the room, still holding onto the makeshift barrier.
“On the count of three, we run together, ok?” Hyunjin spoke to the both of you, and you both nodded. He took a deep breath before counting.
“One”
Zombies still tried climbing up on top of the makeshift barrier.
“Two”
One zombie tried reaching out to grab you, inching closer and closer to your arm.
“Three”
You all ran towards the door, zombies destroying the makeshift barrier as they ran after you. You didn’t stop running, even if you grew tired. You were focused on getting to the roof, no matter what.
You all managed to reach the doors leading to the roof, but it was unfortunately locked. “Fuck, it’s locked from the outside”, Felix said as he struggled to open it. Everyone looked down the staircase, waiting for the worst. The zombies started running up the stairs, and everyone started panicking. Minho saw a fabric covering on the floor, and picked it up. Changbin and Jisung helped him, throwing it over the zombies.
They held the fabric covering over the zombies, trying to stop them going up the stairs any further. Yuna felt something inside her change, her fingers cracking. She tried to fight it, holding her face as it started to hurt from the voices inside her head.
As Changin was holding the fabric covering, a part of it flew upwards and what he saw scared him. Walking up the stairs was Taehyun, his face bloodier than before, an evil smile on his face. He grabbed a zombie by their hair and lifted them up, using them as a shield as he continued walking up the stairs.
Taehyun suddenly saw you by the door, trying to open it. You turned around and almost screamed, seeing Taehyun with a grin on his face. “I see you’re still alive. You won’t be for much longer”, and he chuckled darkly, dropping the zombie and charged at you. Yuna stopped him though, gripping his shirt and lifted him up, throwing up backwards down the stairs.
Suddenly, the doors unlocked and Felix opened the door, and saw the helicopter flying away, running to try and catch it, but it was no use. The helicopter was gone and wasn’t coming back for them.
Changbin was the last person to come out onto the roof, closing the door behind him, locking it. As Changbin started walking backwards, someone, or something, started banging on the door numerous times before stopping.
“Seems like Taehyun is pissed and taking it out on the door”, Changbin said as he walked over to the group, seeing them sitting on the ground. He sat on the ground with them, sitting next to Yuna.
“Guess we’re stuck out here for a while”, Jisung said, lying down on the ground. “Well, since we’re out here for a while, why don’t we confess things or something, I don’t know, anything so I don’t end up dying from boredom”, Minho said, and everyone agreed that you had to do something while you’re stuck on the roof for god knows how long.
Since it was starting to get dark soon, you found some sticks to create a fire, putting them in a pile. “Does anyone have a lighter or something?” you asked, and Yuna pulled one out of her pocket, handing it to you. You set fire to one of the sticks, using that stick to make the fire. You blew on it, making the fire bigger and put it onto the campfire.
You all sat in a circle, huddling together. It started to get rather cold, making you shiver as you tried wrapping your sweater around your body, but it didn’t work. Hyunjin saw you shivering, bringing you closer to him.
“So, who wants to be the first one to make a confession?” Chan asked, looking round the circle. Jisung put his hand up, volunteering to be the first one. “Remember that time when someone ate Minho’s noodles and we never found out who it was? It was me. I don’t regret it though because they were amazing”, Jisung confessed, and Minho gasped, hitting his arm numerous times, making you laugh.
“I miss my cats so much”, Minho confessed, and you weren’t surprised at that. Minho got his cats when they were kittens, and that was 5 years ago. He hasn’t seen them properly for a few months, only seeing them through video calls or pictures from his mum.
“I like Yuna”, Changbin confessed, squeezing her hand as he looked at her with a smile. ‘Aww’s’ and ‘that’s cute’ were said and you thought it was cute that Changbin managed to find someone. “Yuna, are you going to say something?” you asked, worried that she’s not saying anything.
“I like you too, Changbin”, she said back, smiling at him. You felt happy for them, despite being in a zombie apocalypse. The next person to confess something was Felix, and he looked deep in thought.
“This might be obvious but, I really miss Australia”, he said, and he looked really sad. He hasn’t been back to Australia for a couple of months, and he only talks to his family via video calls or phone calls. A single tear ran down his face, using his hand to wipe it away before anybody could see it.
“I’m actually afraid of the dark”, Chan was the next one to make a confession, and you never knew he was afraid of the dark. Maybe he was just good at masking his fear of it. “Jeongin, do you have anything to confess?”, Chan asked him, and Jeongin looked like he was trying to think of something.
“I’ve never had bungeoppang before”, he confessed, and you gasped. “You’ve never had that before? After we get rescued and get out of here, we should get bungeoppang so you can say you’ve finally had it”, Chan said, holding out his pinky for Jeongin to link his pinky finger with.
“Hyunjin, do you have anything to confess?” you asked him, looking up at him. He hummed as he tried to think of something, closing his eyes, something he always does when he’s thinking of something.
“I really want a brother or a sister. It’s boring being an only child sometimes”, he confessed, pouting. You never knew he wanted a sibling. You always thought he enjoyed being an only child. “What about you, y/n?” Chan asked, everyone now looking at you. You pretended to be in thought, and you looked at Felix. He winked at you, and you glared at him.
“I like someone”, you confessed, playing with the sleeves of your sweater. “Who do you like, y/n?” Felix asked you, and you gave him a death glare as a warning. “Yeah y/n, who do you like?” Hyunjin asked you, really wanting to know.
You took a deep breath and closed your eyes. “You”, you said, looking at Hyunjin. You can’t believe you actually confessed you like him in front of everyone. This is really embarrassing. What if your fear comes true and he rejects you, telling you he hates you?
“Oh, um, I don’t know what to say. One second, I need a moment”, and he got up, walking away to the edge of the building. Great, he definitely hates you. You looked at Felix and he gave you a sad look. He nodded his head towards Hyunjin, telling you to follow him. You got up and walked over to where Hyunjin was, standing beside him.
Nothing was said between the two of you as you looked into the distance. “I hope this doesn’t change things between us”, you said, not looking at him. He looked down at you and you felt him looking at you.
“I just want to be alone right now, please”, he said, and you nodded your head and walked away, joining the others again. Once you were out of sight, Hyunjin sat on the floor, hugging his knees.
Hyunjin sat alone for a few minutes, looking at the others. He looked up and saw a pair of hands gripping the edge of the roof, and then he saw a face. It was Taehyun’s face, and he was grinning like a madman. He jumped over the edge and landed on the rooftop.
Hyunjin got up and freaked out, trying to run to the others, but Taehyun stopped him. “Yah, get off me”, Hyunjin shouted, which caught everyone’s attention. You saw Taehyun and you don’t know what came over you, but you ran over to him and kicked the back of his leg, sending him to the ground.
“Don’t touch him, you piece of shit”, you spat at him, Hyunjin running to the others. Taehyun got up and chuckled darkly, walking towards you. “I’ve been waiting for this moment”, and he grabbed you by the throat, applying pressure. You hit his arm as he lifted you up, your legs dangling off the ground.
Jeongin tackled Taehyun to the ground, causing him to drop you to the ground as you coughed violently, holding your throat. Jeongin hit Taehyun over and over again, not thinking of stopping. Hyunjin ran over to Jeongin, getting him off Taehyun.
Everyone tried to fight him, but Taehyun ended up either pushing them down, or hitting them. Yuna had enough so she allowed the half zombie in her to take over, giving her the strength she needs to fight Taehyun. Her eye went bloodshot as veins bulged out of her face, grabbing a piece of wood from the fire and hitting Taehyun on the back with it. He turned around and saw her, gripping her by the neck. He slapped her and she fell to the ground, making him smirk. He turned around and headed towards you again, but he soon felt a sharp pain in the back of his leg.
Yuna stabbed him in the back of the leg with a piece of wood, and he stared down at her. He grabbed the piece of wood out of his leg, and tried to stab Yuna with it, but she grabbed his arm, stopping him. Taehyun tried getting her off him, slapping her but nothing worked. He tried kicking her, lifting his arm up, but she still wouldn’t let go. “Get off me, you bitch”, he snarled.
Yuna lifted herself off the ground, gripping higher on his arm. Taehyun dragged her across the ground, throwing her around but even that wouldn’t get her off him.he soon kicked her, which made Yuna lose her grip, and she got off his arm. He picked her up and gripped her by the back of her hair.
He stared at her for a moment, trying to distinguish what he could smell. “You smell nice”, he smirked and Yuna pushed him, hitting him over again. Taehyun grabbed her by the hair again, stopping her. “We’re on the same side, you know? Smell me. Go on”, he brought his face closer to hers, trying to get her to smell him.
“Fuck you”, and she gripped his hair, kicking him in the stomach. Taehyun flew to the ground, hitting the wall edge of the roof. Changbin kicked him in the back of the leg and then in the stomach, but Taehyun gripped him by the neck, pushing him towards the edge. Yuna ran to Taehyun, gripping him by the back of the shirt and threw him over the edge, but Taehyun was still holding Changbin as he went over, Changbin going over with him.

Mr. Nam was waiting in the interrogation room to be questioned, his hands cuffed to the table. The door opened, revealing a detective, which he assumed was the one who was going to be questioning him.
The detective sat opposite him, looking at him without saying anything. Mr. Nam felt uncomfortable under his gaze, shifting in his seat. “Before we get started, let me just say a few things. You used to work for a pharmaceutical company in Busan a couple of years ago, until you went off the rails and suddenly disappeared, moving out of the country. You then came to Seoul University a few months ago to become a supply science teacher”, he said, looking through the file in front of him”, “now that we have that out of the way, do you know why you’re here?” the detective said, whose name was Hyunsik, raising an eyebrow at Mr. Nam.
“No”, he pretended he didn’t know, playing dumb. Hyunsik scoffed at him, asking him the question again. Mr. Nam still gave the same answer, which frustrated Hyunsik. “You’re here because you kidnapped a student, and drugged her”, Hyunsik said, leaning back in his chair. “Why did you do it?”
“She was bitten and infected with a virus, so I had to stop the spread, but now she’s gone to the hospital and everyone is fucked”, Mr. Nam said, not looking at Hyunsik, but at the wall instead. “So, what you’re telling me is, the young girl got bitten and infected with some sort of virus, so you decided to kidnap her and drug her? This is bullshit”, Hyunsik said, not believing a word he was saying.
“It’s true”, Mr. Nam said, “because I created the virus”, and as soon as he said that, Hyunsik gave him a look of disbelief and horror. “Why would you do such a thing?” Hyunsik asked, wondering why someone would do such a terrible thing.
“Do you have any kids?” Mr. Nam asked Hyunsik, dodging the question. Hyunsik shook his head, wondering what he was trying to say. “You see, I had a son, and he was badly bullied. He always came home bloody and bruised, crying his eyes out. I tried helping him but nothing worked as he kept coming home hurt. Until one day I snapped and told him he needed to fight back, he needed to be strong to fight against his bullies”, Mr. Nam stopped for a moment before speaking again, “I thought by injecting him with the virus I made, he would be able to fight off his bullies”, Mr. Nam said, and Hyunsik leaned forward in his chair.
“By creating a monster”, he said, glaring at Mr. Nam. “How do we stop this?” Hyunsik asked, hoping there is a cure for the virus. “It’s too late. We’re all fucked. The girl at the hospital has probably already infected loads of people by now”, Mr. Nam said, smirking to himself.
“So what you’re saying is, there is absolutely no cure for this? You’re supposed to be a pharmacist, and you’re telling me you can’t make a cure?!” Hyunsik was in disbelief, not believing what he was hearing. He threw his arms up in the air and sat back in his chair, chuckling to himself.
“In my office”, Mr. Nam said after a few minutes of silence, confusing Hyunsik. “What did you say?” Hyunsik asked, leaning forward in his chair again. “My laptop is in my office, and it has everything on there”, Mr. Nam said, confessing that there might be a cure.
Suddenly, the door opened, revealing another detective. “Sir, we have a problem”, the other detective said, and Hyunsik got up out of his seat, following the detective out of the room. Mr. Nam was alone again, sighing to himself.
After a few minutes, Hyunsik came back into the room, and he looked more pissed off than before. “You’ve created an actual zombie apocalypse, or whatever it is. Everything is a mess because of you”, Hyunsik said, getting right in Mr. Nam’s face. “Now, you said your laptop is in your office, right? We need you to go to the University and retrieve it for us”, Hyunsik said, uncuffing him from the table.
He left the room, holding Mr. Nam’s bicep as they both walked down the hallway. They were about to pass a room, when all of a sudden, someone came running out of it, falling to the ground as they held their neck.
Hyunsik pushed Mr. Nam into the nearest bathroom, and ran to help. Mr. Nam watched as everything unfolded, seeing people being attacked and turning into zombies. He slowly walked out of the bathroom a few minutes later, smirking to himself as he saw the mess he created, zombies running everywhere.
Hyunsik was fighting a zombie, trying to stop them from biting him. Mr. Nam suddenly appeared, pushing the zombie off of him, hitting them in the head with a pole. “Go, get the laptop from my office”, Mr. Nam said, feeling teeth sinking into his shoulder. He let out a scream, dropping the pole he was holding, the pole hitting the ground.
Hyunsik watched as Mr. Nam got attacked by several zombies, fearing for his life. “GO!” Mr. Nam shouted and Hyunsik turned on his heel, running out of the building. As soon as he got outside, he was met with zombies running around, coming from different directions. He looked ahead of him, and saw a car in the distance, the car door open. He counted to three in his head before making a run for it, heading towards the car, avoiding any zombies that got in his way.
As soon as he reached the car, he saw someone stuck between the building and the car, and he got his gun out. “Wait! I’m a human, I’m not infected!” the person said, putting his arms up. Hyunsik put his gun away, helping the person.
“What’s your name?” Hyunsik asked, noticing the uniform he is wearing. He was a police officer, but he was still in training. “Byungchan”, the younger said, bowing at Hyunsik. “I assume you’re still in training, right?” Hyunsik asked as soon as they both ran to cover, hiding behind a wall.
“Yes sir. I train at Seoul University”, he said, and Hyunsik snapped his head around, looking at him. “Seoul University? That’s great because that’s where I need to go”, Hyunsik said, looking for where they can get to. A car, a truck, anything they can use to get away. “I was interrogating someone who created this mess, and I need his laptop to see if there is a cure, and to see if he was telling the truth”, Hyunsik said, and the younger had a shiver run up and down his spine.
“You see that bike over there?” Hyunsik pointed to a bike in the distance, Byungchan looking in the direction of where he was pointing. “If we can get to that bike, we can escape on that”, Hyunsik said, and Byungchan seemed to agree with that idea. They both waited until the area had an opening, and as soon there was one, they both ran towards the bike.
They got on the bike, and before they managed to drive off, the sounds of screaming was heard behind them. They turned around and saw a little girl running away from zombies, and Hyunsik got off the bike and ran to grab her, and went inside a restaurant nearby. Hyunsik and Byungchan barricaded themselves inside the restaurant, making sure no zombies could get in, and then Hyunsik checked on the little girl.
“Hey, what’s your name?” Hyunsik asked the little girl, holding her face in his hands, to see if she had any injuries. Luckily she had none. “Jiwoo”, she sniffled, wiping her nose with the back of her sleeve. “Where’s your mum, Jiwoo?” Hyunsik asked, wondering why she wasn’t with her parents. Jiwoo pointed outside, and Hyunsik saw her pointing to one of the zombies in the window.
“You’re safe with us now, ok?” Hyunsik said, and hugged Jiwoo, wrapping his arms around her gently. She cried into his chest, tears soaking his shirt. “I want my mom”, she cried, her nose snotty from the amount of crying. Hyunsik held the back of her head, gently calming her down, rocking her side to side. Luckily she managed to calm down after a few minutes, sniffles still escaping her but her tears had stopped.
They stayed inside the restaurant for a while, finding anything they can use to make protective gear for their arms, legs, anything to cover themselves with. Once they were sure they were protected enough, they made a move to leave the restaurant. Hyunnsik crouched down to Jiwoo’s level, and looked at her.
“When we leave, I want you to hold onto me and close your eyes, ok?” Hyunsik said, and Jiwoo nodded, her sniffles long gone. They left the restaurant, getting back on the bike. Hyunsik in the front, Jiwoo behind him, and Byungchan on the back of the bike. Hyunsik started the bike, riding away from the zombies.
Byungchan got his gun out of his pocket, shooting at any zombies that came near them, shooting randomly. “Yah, do you even know how to use a gun?!” Hyunsik yelled, concentrating on the road. “Yeah and no”, Byungchan answered. Well that wasn’t very convincing.
Hyunsik rode for god knows how long, turning around a corner. “Don’t stop”, Byungchan said, looking back and seeing the zombies still chasing them. “Yah, I’m not stupid”, Hyunsik said, still looking in front of him. He found a little alleyway, and rode down it, not seeing any zombies in sight.
They left the alleyway, and there were no zombies in sight, and they continued riding along the concrete, laughing to themselves as they fled the zombies. “We’re free!” Byungchan said as he laughed, patting Jiwoo on the head gently. Hyunsik slowed down, riding at a reasonable pace.
They were about to pass a small house, when they heard a yell coming from somewhere. “Help me, please”, a small voice said, and both Hyunsik and Byungchan looked around, trying to see where the voice was coming from.
Hyunsik looked up, and saw someone sitting on a roof, and Hyunsik stopped the bike. “Hey you, are you ok?” Hyunsik asked, the person sitting on the roof looking down at him. “Please help me, I’m stuck and I hurt my leg”, the guy said, and Hyunsik was conflicted whether to keep going, or to save the poor guy.
“Yah, don’t stop, keep going”, Byungchan said, patting Hyunsik on the shoulder. Hyunsik wanted to keep going, but he didn’t want to leave the poor guy behind. Besides, what happens if he rides off without him and he ends up regretting it? He wouldn’t forgive himself if he did.
Hyunsik took his helmet off and put it on Byungchan, going to save the poor guy. “Don’t move, I’ll be back”, Hyunsik said, climbing up onto the roof. As soon as Hyunsik turned his back, Byungchan rode off, leaving him behind. “YAH”, Hyunsik shouted, anger bubbling up inside of him.
--------------------------------
“So, what’s your name then?” Hyunsik asked the younger man, sitting beside him. “Taejin”, he said, putting his hand out for Hyunsik to shake. Hyunsik just stared at the hand, and Taejin awkwardly put his hand away. “What are you doing up here anyway?” Hyunsik asked, and he pointed to Taejin’s leg.
“I was running away from zombies and I ended up climbing up here, but I hurt my leg in the process”, he said, feeling slightly embarrassed about hurting his leg. Hyunsik patted his leg, causing Taejin to wince. They stayed up there for god knows how long, and Hyunsik put padding around Taejin’s leg, protecting it.
All of a sudden, there were a bunch of zombies surrounding them, and they were panicking. They were trapped and they didn’t know what to do. Suddenly out of nowhere, a bus came charging in, hitting a bunch of the zombies, knocking them over. That’s when Hyunsik realised who was driving the bus: Byungchan.
“Yah, you came back, you idiot”, Hyunsik shouted at Byungchan, and he suddenly felt a bit guilty for going off on the bike. “Hey, I was going to come back, you know? See, I found a bus. Now jump on”, Byungchan shouted up to Hyunsik, and Hyunsik got up, getting ready to jump on top of the bus.
Hyunsik jumped, landing on top of the bus, holding on to the edges for support. “Hey, don’t leave me, please”, Taejin pleaded, wincing as he stood up. “If you don’t want to stay here, then jump”, Hyunsik said, gesturing to Taejin to jump. “But I hurt my leg”, Taejin said, hesitating whether or not to jump.
“If you’re not going to jump then we’ll leave you here”, Hyunsik threatened, and that made Taejin panic. “Ok, ok, I’ll jump, just give me a moment”, Taejin said, getting closer to the edge, getting ready to jump. He took a step back, and took a leap, landing on top of the bus. Hyunsik hit the side of the bus, letting Byungchan know that he could drive off.
Byungchan has been driving for a while now, both Hyunsik and Taejin now inside the bus, Jiwoo cuddling up to Taejin as she tries to fall asleep. “You’re a traitor, you know that?” Hyunsik said to Byungchan, referring to him riding off on the bike without him. “Hey, I came back, didn’t I? I got us a bus”, Byungchan said, looking behind him to look at Hyunsik. Though that was a bad idea as Hyunsik shouted, telling Byungchan to watch out, but it was too late. He had hit someone, and they flew across the road.
Hyunsik got up out of his seat, leaving the bus and running to the person that was hit. He noticed it was a girl, and he also saw a bicycle not far from her. He crouched down to see if she was ok, but got startled as she got up, as if she wasn’t just hit a few minutes ago.
“Are you ok?” Hyunsik asked the girl, and she nodded. Suddenly, there was a bright light aiming at the two, and Hyunsik covered the girl, protecting her from whatever the light was. That was when he saw a group of soldiers holding guns, which were pointed at them. “Hey wait, we’re not zombies”, Hyunsik said, putting his arms up. The soldiers looked at each other before walking towards the two in front of them, grabbing them. Another soldier went inside the bus, and grabbed Byungchan and Taejin, as well as Jiwoo.
--------------------------------
Both Hyunsik and Byungchan were sitting in a room, with a couple of soldiers in the room with them. They were explaining to the soldiers what they were doing, and that they were trying to reach Seoul University to retrieve a laptop.
“So this laptop has information on it about this virus outbreak, and there could possibly be a cure on it?” the soldier said, whose name they didn’t get. They both nodded and the soldier in front of them called one of his troops, whispering something to him, and he nodded before leaving the room.
“Ok what we will do is, I’ll send a group of troops out to the university so they can retrieve the laptop, and see if there is information on it”, the soldier said, and the two in front of him nodded. They were both escorted out of the room and to a separate room for them to stay in, to be quarantined. They can’t believe they actually made it to the quarantine zone, let alone be rescued.
--------------------------------
Changbin closed his eyes, waiting for the impact of him hitting the ground, but it never came. He opened his eyes and saw Yuna holding his wrist. He looked down at the ground and saw Taehyun, lying on the ground. But he soon got up and ran away somewhere. Yuna pulled Changbin up, and he laid down on the rooftop. Everyone sighed out of relief once they saw Changbin was ok, and they all sat down again.
“My life flashed before my eyes. I thought I was going to die”, Changbin said, looking up at the darkening sky above him. Suddenly the sound of a helicopter could be heard, and everyone stood up. They all saw a helicopter heading towards them, and they all put their hands up, jumping up and down.
The helicopter didn’t land, however, as soldiers came down on a hoist. They landed on the rooftop, detaching the hoist from their harness. As soon as you walked towards the soldiers, they aimed their guns at you, making you put your hands up. “Hey, we’re not infected”, Chan said, standing in front of you. The soldiers threatened to shoot if he didn’t stand back, so you pushed him backwards, making him stand beside you.
“Get on the ground. Now!” one of the soldiers demanded, and you all got on the ground. One of the other soldiers checked everyone’s temperature, ensuring that everyone’s temperature was normal. Changbin looked at Yuna, and suddenly got worried.
Everyone’s temperature was thankfully normal, and the soldier went to Yuna, checking her temperature as he placed the thermometer in her ear. “34.5°C”, the soldier said, and he requested a thermal blanket, putting it over Yuna to try and keep her warm.
A few of the soldiers connected their hoist to the rooftop, attaching it securely, before jumping off the side of the roof and in through one of the windows, the glass smashing on impact. The few soldiers that were left stayed with you, and started getting ready to rescue you. Jisung was the first one, one of the soldiers putting the harness on him.
Jisung felt himself being lifted into the air, the hoist pulling him upwards to the helicopter. One of the soldiers got a message in his ear piece a moment later, requesting to call the rescue mission off. “We found someone who is infected in quarantine, but she’s asymptomatic. She doesn’t seem to be a zombie but she is infected with the virus”, he was told, and he was shocked.
The soldier called to his teammate, telling him to release Jisung, and he seemed to hesitate at first, since he wanted them to be rescued, but he listened to the instructions, sending Jisung down. He was confused, wondering why he was going down.
“Hey, what’s going on?” Jisung asked, the harness being taken off of him, and he was pushed back to the group. He tried running forward, but a gun was aimed at his head, making him freeze. “Don’t come any closer kid, otherwise I will shoot. Trust me, I don’t want to, but it’s what I was instructed to do. I’m sorry”, the soldier said, guilt evident in his voice.
Guns could be heard in the distance, and then it went silent. The soldiers came back, one of them holding a briefcase which had the laptop in. The soldiers attached their harness to the hoist, being lifted up into the helicopter again.
You were soon left alone again as the helicopter took off, flying into the distance. You grew angry, felt abandoned and forgotten. You felt like you shouldn’t trust adults anymore, they never cared about you. Were they ever going to rescue you in the first place?
You kicked the fire over, destroying it as you screamed, letting out all your anger. No one stopped you, they just watched as you started kicking things, destroying everything you saw.
You calmed down after a few minutes, and you suddenly felt a drop of water on your forehead. You looked up and saw it had started raining. The rain poured down from the sky, drenching you.
Everyone except you started jumping around, enjoying the rain as it had been a while since they saw rain. Though the jumping of excitement turned into sadness, the realisation of not being rescued hit. You all started crying, crying out of pain, sadness, anger.
--------------------------------
You all had been sitting under shelter (which was made by Chan) for a while now, and you were planning on how you were going to make an escape plan, since it seemed like no one was ever going to rescue you. “So, how are we going to get out of here?” Changbin asked.
“If we head towards the mountains, we can go that way and walk towards Busan. Yeah, it will take us hours to walk there but, it’s the only option we have”, Chan said, and you all seemed to agree with him. You have no other choice. Suddenly, a crash of thunder startled you, a flash of lightning lighting up the sky.
“Since zombies follow sound, we can go whenever there is a crash of lightning”, you suggested, and everyone agreed. You all got up and headed towards the door, going inside one by one. Hyunjin held your hand, making sure you stuck together.
You all went down the stairs, tiptoeing to ensure you didn't make any noise. You exited the nearest door, heading outside back into the pouring rain. You stayed along the walls, out of sight of any zombies. You hid behind a wall, looking out to see if there was an opening you can run to. There was a truck in the distance, which looked like there were no zombies around.
“On the count of three, we run, ok?” Chan whispered, ensuring that you all heard him. You nodded, and Chan counted to three on his fingers. As soon as he hit three, you all ran, heading towards where the truck is. You all started to crawl underneath the truck, getting to the other side. Hyunjin was about to crawl under it until he saw his mum. The thing was though, she was now a zombie.
“Mum?” Hyunjin’s voice cracked as soon as he saw her, everyone looking between them. Hyunjin was about to run to her when Jeongin stopped him, wrapping his arms tightly around him to ensure he doesn’t run off. “MOM!” he screamed at the top of his voice, tears blurring his vision.
Jeongin ran, pulling Hyunjin along with him, following the rest of the group. They didn’t stop, not even for a moment. They both caught up with the rest of the group, running towards the gymnasium. Jeongin was the last person inside, locking the door so no zombies could get in. Yuna stood there, staring into the dark abyss, noticing something was wrong.
“Yuna, what’s wrong?” Changbin asked, trying to see what she was looking at. “We’re not alone in here”, she said and everyone looked into the darkness. A flash of lightning lit up the gymnasium and they saw it: there were a bunch of zombies roaming the room. Everyone ran towards a supply cupboard, pushing any zombies that got in their way. They all ran into the cupboard, closing the door behind them, locking it.
“Now what do we do?” Jisung asked, sitting down. You didn’t know what to do at this point, at a loss for words. You were trapped at this point. “Why don’t we just sleep for now, wait and see what happens tomorrow”, Chan said, and everyone liked the sound of sleep right now, so that’s what you all did.
--------------------------------
You woke up after a couple of hours, noticing you had fallen asleep on Hyunjin’s leg. He felt movement on his leg, and woke up to see you lying on him. You expected him to push you off or something but he did the exact opposite. He smiled down at you, stroking your hair.
Everyone else soon woke up not long after you two, stretching their limbs. No one knows what time it was, but they figured it was probably near mid morning since it was now bright outside.
The faint sound of zombies could be heard from outside, faint sounds of groaning and grumbling. Everyone got up, wondering how they were going to leave. Jisung, being the clumsy person he was, accidentally tripped over, falling into a metal storage cage. That’s when he came up with an idea.
“Hey, maybe we can use these for protection”, Jisung suggested, making everyone look at the metal storage cage. There were about three or 4 of them in the room with them, and they all grabbed them, creating one big shield. They found lots of items they could use to make it, such as zip ties, duct tape, and so on.
As Changbin was looking in a basket, he found a couple of chocolate bars hiding in the bottom of it. “Hey, I found some chocolate bars”, he announced to the whole group, and everyone’s heads whipped around to look at them, a smile on their faces. Changbin handed them out, and thankfully there were enough for everyone to have their own. Why there were that many chocolate bars in the basket, no one knows, but they didn’t think about that.
Once they finished eating their chocolate, they got back to work. They ensured the shield was sturdy enough, and then they found items they could make for themselves. They found shin pads, shoulder pads, and elbow and knee pads.
They got into position, getting ready to leave and go back into the gymnasium full of zombies. “Ready?” Chan asked, looking around at everyone. “No”, Jisung replied, feeling scared, but who could blame him?
Chan counted to three, and he opened the door, all of you pushing the makeshift shield together. You all pushed it towards the door at the other end of the gymnasium, or at least tried to, zombies trying to destroy the shield by pushing themselves up against it. “Yah, they’re trying to climb over”, Minho yelled, trying to push them off.
They got closer and closer to the exit, and started struggling as the zombies kept pushing against them. Minho tried pulling a zombie off him, but in the process, the zombie bit his hand, and he felt his world collapse. He was going to turn and he was scared. “Minho?” Jisung’s voice wavered, seeing the bite on his hand. Minho wiped the tears off his face, clearing his throat.
Minho pulled apart the shield, getting out. “Minho, stop!” Jisung cried, but it was too late. Minho got surrounded by the zombies and they started attacking him. “GO”, he shouted, demanding for the others to escape. Jisung wanted to stay with Minho, tears blurring his vision as he called out for him, but Felix pulled him along with him. They reached the door, but it wouldn’t budge.
“Fuck, it won’t open”, Chan said, kicking and hitting the door numerous times. Chan yelled out of frustration, trying to get the door to budge but it was no use. You helped him, pushing into the door with your shoulder, not caring if it was hurting you.
You went to try one more time and before you even reached the door, it suddenly flew open, revealing the last person you expected to see. Your brother Jake. What was he doing here? He was supposed to be in France doing some military training.
You don’t know why you did it but, you ran to him and hugged him. You were just glad to see someone else who wasn’t a zombie. “What are you doing here?” you asked him as soon as you were all out of the gymnasium. “We’ll talk later. We all need to go”, he said, pointing at a group of zombies heading your way.
You ran up a hill, heading towards a tennis court, your brother locking the gate as soon as you all got inside the court. You all thought you would be safe inside the tennis court but you were wrong, as zombies started to surround you all, coming from different directions. Your brother ran to his bag which was in the middle of the court, grabbing a flare torch.
As soon as the zombies came crashing in, breaking the gate down, Jake lit the flare and threw it to one side of the court, the zombies following it. “Go”, Jake shouted to you, but you refused to leave without him. “No, we’re not leaving without you. I don’t want to lose anyone else”, you cried, Hyunjin holding your hand.
You all ran to the other side of the court, opening the gate and going through it. You waited for Jake to leave but instead, he closed the gate as soon as you left, locking it. “What are you doing?” you asked, confused as to why he wasn’t leaving with you. “Go. Leave here, go to Busan”, he demanded, a group of zombies attacking him.
You didn’t want to but Hyunjin pulled you away from the court, running towards the mountains.

You don’t know how long you’ve been walking for, but you were sure you were out of Seoul by now. Surely there can’t be any zombies out of Seoul. Right?
It looked like you were in a ghost town, everyone empty and literally no people there. It was foggy, making it difficult to see in front of you. Yuna stopped walking, noticing something different felt right.
“Yuna, what’s wrong?” Changbin asked, standing beside her. “We’re not alone”, she said, closing her eyes. It seemed like she was counting something, whispering to herself. She soon opened her eyes, gasping.
“There are about 10 zombies coming this way”, she said and a few seconds later, zombies came running towards them, their silhouettes appearing through the fog. You picked up the nearest object, which was a shovel, and whacked a zombie over the head with it, knocking it to the ground.
Jisung grabbed a pole, hitting a zombie across the face, blood splattering on him. Another zombie charged at him, Jisung moving out the way, the zombie crashing into one of the stalls.
Felix was fighting off a zombie, using a pole he found to push it away from him, but he didn’t realise that a zombie was charging at him, tackling Felix to the ground. Felix fought the zombie off, trying to avoid getting bitten. Felix saw a sharp piece of wood on the ground next to him, grabbing it and stabbed the zombie in the neck, pushing it off him.
Felix stood up, dusting his clothes off. He went to help Jeongin fight off another zombie but before he could reach him, he saw another zombie charging at him. Chan saw and immediately ran to save Felix, falling on top of him. The zombie attacked Chan, earning a scream from him. “Chan hyung!” Felix cried, fearing for him.
Jisung and Changbin pulled the zombies off of Chan, and Chan fell to the ground, lying on his back. Felix held Chan, looking down at him with tears in his eyes. “C-chan hyung”, Felix whimpered, his voice breaking. Everyone was crying, realising that they’ve lost another person. Chan was the person who kept the whole group together, keeping everyone sane.
“C-changbin”, Chan managed to say, feeling his body twitching. “Look after them for me”, he said, and he felt himself turning. Felix screamed and he felt himself being pulled away from Chan. Chan got up, and suddenly charged at Felix, screaming. You didn’t think as you whacked the shovel across Chan’s face, knocking him to the ground. “Sorry Chan”, you cried, feeling guilty for doing that.
You all started running again, heading towards Busan. Yuna trailed behind the group, the sudden urge to bite someone. Go on, bite them, you know you want to, she thought to herself, but she didn’t want to do that, they are her friends. So instead, she bit her own hand as she cried. She ran off, away from the group.
Changbin looked behind him and saw Yuna was nowhere to be found. “Yuna?” Changbin called out, yelling her name over and over again. “Where’d she go?” you asked, and saw Changbin run off, and you ran after him.
“YUNA?!” he called out, but heard no response. He turned a corner and saw Yuna, who was eating someone. “Yuna?” he called out, and Yuna dropped the body. She turned around, seeing Changbin and you.
“Hey, Yuna, you ok?” you asked, slowly walking towards her. But that was a bad idea as she charged at you, knocking you to the ground. She went to bite you but she stopped herself, screaming and crying.
“Hey, you can bite me, it’s ok”, you said, giving her access to your neck. She leant down and put her face in the crook of your neck, but she couldn’t do it. She didn’t want to do it. She got up off of you, wiping her tears. “I’m sorry”, she said before running off somewhere.
--------------------------------
You made it to the border of Busan, the feeling of stones under your feet as you walked on the train track. A group of soldiers saw you, aiming their guns at you, but you put your arms up, telling them that you’re survivors. They ran towards you, getting you to safety, guiding you to where a couple of trucks are.
The journey to the quarantine zone was quiet as you rested your head on Hyunjin’s shoulder, feeling exhausted. He held your hand, rubbing his thumb over the skin as he squeezed it. He looked down at you, noticing how you were trying really hard not to drift off. Just as he was about to say something to you, the truck came to a stop, telling you that you had arrived at the quarantine zone.
You were all assigned different rooms, which were all next to each other. You had necessities given to you like towels, water bottles, toothbrush and toothpaste, and so on. You entered your room, and you never felt so relieved to see a bed in your life. The first thing you did after putting your stuff down was to lie on your bed, and you immediately fell asleep, having your first proper good night's sleep in a long time.
--------------------------------
It’s been about four months since you arrived at the quarantine zone, and during your time there, you’ve hardly spoken to anyone. You’re not surprised by that since everyone is still shook after losing someone they loved.
You were casually wandering around, your woolly coat covering your body, protecting you from the cold bitterness in the air. You saw Hyunjin sitting on the ground, so you walked up to him. He noticed you, and stood up, smiling at you.
“Can I talk to you for a second?” you asked, twiddling with your fingers. He didn’t say anything as he nodded, following you to a secluded area. He stood in front of you, waiting for what you had to say. “About what I said back then on the rooftop. I’m sorry if I scared you by saying that, I wasn’t thinking and I-” you were cut off by a pair of lips on yours, causing you to squeak. You realised it was only Hyunjin, and you kissed him back. It was only a short kiss, but that didn’t matter. You were glad to know that Hyunjin felt the same way. “It’s ok, you don’t need to apologise”, he smiled at you, patting you on the head, making you giggle.
Out of nowhere, Jisung came tumbling down behind you, making you jump. “Yah, stop falling over”, Hyunjin jokingly said, making you laugh. Jisung got up, dusting himself off. Changbin, Felix and Jeongin came out from behind a wall, clapping their hands. “Wait, were you guys spying on us?” Hyunjin glared at them, and they all made a face, showing their guilt. “It was Changbin hyungs idea”, Jeongin said, pointing at Changbin. “Yah, don’t expose me”, Changbin said, shaking Jeongin. You and Hyunjin just laughed, glad to see them almost back to their usual selves. You’re not sure how long it will be until you’re all fully ok again but, in the meantime, you’re just glad to have the people around you.
