Pairing: stray kids x reader Genre: horror, apocalypse!au, angst, some fluff, crack? but not really Warnings: alcohol consumption, mentions of food, swearing (like, a lot), horror themes (blood, gore, slight injury detail, cannibalism, Seungmin gets a dislocated shoulder rip), use of weapons (knives, guns), lots of crying, character death, main character deaths, attempted murder, abusive relationships, a couple of kiss scenes, not a warning but Jisung is slightly dramatic Word count: 22,738 (blooming heck, my longest fic ever) Taglist: @alphadisaster @catlove83 a/n: this was supposed to be released on halloween but, life happened lol, better late than ever though amirite
It started out as a normal day in Seoul. Everyone enjoying the sunshine, feeling the warmth from the sun on their skin. Children were playing in the park, laughing with not a care in the world. Young people seeing their loved ones, enjoying spending their time together as they basked in the afternoon sun. However, that all changed in just a couple of hours, a virus outbreak turning people into cannibalistic psychopaths.
5 hours before the outbreak
You were chilling at the dorms with the guys, sitting between Hyunjin and Jeongin. You were playing with Hyunjin’s hands, twirling the rings around his fingers. Hyunjin didn’t seem to mind though, too engrossed in the conversation he was having with Seungmin. Jisung and Minho were bickering, as usual, probably about what they wanted to eat. Felix was in the kitchen, baking brownies for everyone, the smell of the brownies baking hitting your senses. You swear that Felix puts a hint of magic in the brownies as they are the best brownies you’ve ever eaten. You’re not sure when Chan and Changbin are, probably working out, which they usually do.
“I want to eat jajangmyeon”
“I want tteokbokki!”
“We had that last time!”
“I don’t care, I’m craving tteokbokki again”
“If the both of you don’t shut up, you’ll both be eating a sock”, Seungmin said, glaring at the pair for their bickering. You giggled, finding the scene in front of you funny: Jisung and Minho both staring at Seungmin, not knowing what to say. They just sat back in their seats, sighing. “Why don’t we try out that new steak restaurant? I heard that the steak there is amazing”, Jeongin suggested, to which everyone agreed on the idea. You texted Chan and Changbin to meet you at the steak restaurant, to which they were ok with that.
4 hours before the outbreak
You all arrived at the restaurant, the aura of the restaurant felt warm and cosy. You were greeted by a front of house staff, guiding you to a table before giving you a menu each. “I hope you two aren’t going to bicker about what to eat”, Seungmin said, referring to Jisung and Minho. The table was filled with laughter from Seungmin’s comment, both Minho and Jisung feeling embarrassed.
Thankfully the meal was filled with laughter and jokes, and the occasional dad joke from Chan which made you all groan. Hyunjin fed you some pieces of steak and some veggies, and you did the same to him. Jeongin felt a bit left out so you fed him some steak and veggies too, the smile on his face making your heart warm. Soju filled your system, as well as the others. You were all tipsy, some more than others, but you were still aware of your senses and surroundings.
3 hours before the outbreak
You all walked back home, the streetlights illuminating the city. You were laughing at nothing in particular, probably at something Hyunjin said as you leaned into his side. The others were walking ahead of you, Jisung twirling around like a ballerina, whilst Changbin tried to push Minho over for some odd reason. Chan stops him, scolding him like a dad telling his child off. All of a sudden, you felt yourself being stopped, looking up to see Hyunjin looking down at you.
“Can I try something? Just, don’t hit me please, I’m fragile”, Hyunjin said, making you laugh. You just nodded your head and a second later, you felt his lips against yours. They were softer than you imagined, like pillows. You thought it was going to be a soft and short kiss, you didn’t expect to make out in the middle of the street.
“Hey, love birds! How about instead of making out in the middle of the street, we get home. I’m tired and Changbin won’t stop trying to push Minho over. Oh, and Jisung almost walked into a lamp post pretending to be a ballerina. I’m too old to look after you all”, Chan said, really sounding like a tired dad. You and Hyunjin ran towards him, holding hands so as to not lose each other, even though the street is practically empty.
2 hours before the outbreak
You were in Hyunjin’s room, straddling him as you made out. His hands were on your waist whilst yours were around his neck. Your lips moulded together perfectly, like they were made for each other. Neither of you made any moves to deepen the kiss, just wanting to keep the moment sweet and soft. After a moment, Hyunjin was the first to pull away, looking at you with soft eyes. He planted a small kiss on the tip of your nose, watching as you scrunch your face up from the feeling. He planted kisses all over your face from how cute you were. You continued to sit like that for a while, basking in the warmth from Hyunjin’s body.
After a while, though, you both left the room and joined the others. Some kind of action film was playing on the TV but you’re not familiar with it. Hyunjin sat down on the sofa, pulling you down on the couch, snuggling up into him. No one was talking at this point, probably still tipsy or just really tired, which you don’t blame them. You could fall asleep right then and there but you didn’t want to, not just yet.
“Do you think bees have belly buttons?”
“Jisung, what the fuck?!”
1 hour before the outbreak
The TV was still on, some film you didn’t recognise playing as everyone else was asleep apart from you. The sound of Hyunjin’s light snores hit your ears, his lips pouty as his head rested on the back of the sofa. Jisung and Minho’s legs were intertwined as they cuddled against each other, which you decided to take a picture of because you found it adorable. You didn’t realise you left the flash on, though, as the flash went off as soon as you pressed the button. Thankfully no one woke up as you let out a sigh of relief.
You felt yourself getting sleepy as you let out a massive yawn, putting your phone in your pocket. You sat back down next to Hyunjin, resting your head on his shoulder. You closed your eyes, hoping to fall into dreamland, which you did a few minutes later. However, your sleep was soon interrupted as about an hour later, you were all woken up by a massive explosion.
“What the fuck was that?!” Chan asked, hurrying out of his seat and running to the window. He looked outside and saw that a building in the distance was on fire. In the distance, he could see people running around, screaming their heads off. They all looked terrified, which is understandable since a building literally just exploded not even five minutes ago. What he couldn’t see, though, was that the people weren’t running because the building exploded, no, they were running because someone was trying to kill them. And they were also trying to eat them?
The building that exploded was a laboratory, which stored chemicals to create vaccinations for different types of diseases. However, one of the workers in the facility who was working on some of the chemicals accidentally made a mistake, mixing two different chemicals which aren’t supposed to be mixed together. When they realised what they had done, it was too late. It had caused a reaction, a reaction they had not seen before. The glass beaker smashed, glass shattering everywhere. Some of the glass had cut the workers face, a piece of glass stuck in their cheek. There was some sort of a ball of mist caused by the reaction, which had a slight green tinge to it. Before the worker could run out of the room to escape it, it was too late. They had ingested the green mist, suffocating them before they fell to the floor.
Other people in the facility were unaware of what had happened,not realising their lives were now in danger. The laboratory assistant manager was walking through a door, a clipboard in her hand, reading through the notes on the piece of paper. When she rounded the corner, she bumped into the worker who ingested the mist, which she had no acknowledgement of.
“Ah, Donghae, you scared me”, she said, holding a hand to her chest. She took a good look at him, realising something wasn’t right about him. “Hey, are you ok? You don’t look so good”, she was about to put a hand to his forehead to check his temperature when all of a sudden, Donghae lunged forward, knocking her to the ground. She screamed, trying to push him off but it was no use, he was too strong. He grabbed her shoulders, gaining more access to her neck and bit the flesh between her neck and shoulders, biting a massive chunk out of it.
Donghae got off of her, walking away, the assistant manager bleeding out onto the floor. He soon heard screams coming from behind him, workers running towards their assistant manager, calling for help. Donghae chewed on the flesh in his mouth, swallowing it. Before the workers who were surrounding the assistant managers knew it, the assistant manager's eyes opened, which were now bloodshot. She lunged at one of the workers, attacking her as she hit her over and over again, the worker begging her to stop.
About an hour later, the laboratory was an entire mess. All the workers were screaming, running out of the building, trying to get away from the cannibalistic psychopaths that were trying to eat and kill them. A fire had started in one of the rooms, which contained different flammable chemicals and gas canisters. That’s when it exploded, spreading all over the building, resulting in the loud bang, startling you and the others in the dorm room.
That’s when Chan could see the reason why people were running away. He saw someone getting jumped, being knocked to the ground by someone, biting into their flesh. Chan jumped backwards, scared for his life. “What, what’s wrong?” you asked, jumping out of your seat and walking towards him. That’s when you saw what he was looking at, seeing people getting eaten alive, turning into those things.
“Ok, we need to leave. Now”, Chan said, you agreeing with him. “Where are we supposed to go? What if those things are everywhere? Who knows how many people are infected”, you said, looking at him. “Wait, infection? What are you on about?” Jeongin asked, fear evident in his voice. You looked at Chan, and then at the others. “I’m not entirely sure what the infection is but, it looks like the infection causes people to become cannibalistic psychopaths and if you’re bitten, or in this case being eaten alive by someone who’s infected, you also get infected and get turned into one of those things”, Chan said.
“I’m sorry, did you just say ‘cannibals’? I’m too precious to be eaten, plus I ain’t dying a virgin”, Jisung said, causing everyone to give him a weird look. “I can change that”, Lee Know said out of nowhere, looking at Jisung.
“What?”
“What?”
“Ok weirdos, let’s just go”, Seungmin said, rolling his eyes.
--------------------------------
All of you left the dorm room building, seeing loads of people running around in different directions, seeing some people lying on the floor, covered in blood, screaming for help, and others being attacked, becoming infected with whatever the infection is. You grabbed hold of Hyunjin’s hand, squeezing it. You always do that whenever you feel scared and in this case, you were terrified.
“Where do we go? They’re surrounding the entire area”, Changbin said, trying to find a clear path, but not being able to. Felix pointed ahead of him, finding a clear path. “There! I found one. But unfortunately, we have to run through the infected area”, Felix said, not liking the idea but it was the only one he had.
“Ok, on the count of three, we run, ok?” Chan said, looking at everyone to ensure they were listening. You were still holding Hyunjin’s hand, Jisung clinging onto Lee Know. You all nodded, not liking the idea but you had to.
“One”
You squeezed Hyunjin’s hand harder, your breathing becoming heavier.
“Two”
You felt a tear run down your cheek, wiping it with your free hand, not wanting the others to see you crying.
“Three!”
You ran forward, running towards the infected. You didn’t stop running, even if your legs felt like they were going to buckle underneath you. You were getting close to the other side, running as fast as you could, as if your life depended on it and in this case, it did. You didn’t even realise that you let go of Hyunjin’s hand, until you were on the other side, not seeing Hyunjin standing beside you.
Before you could scream his name, he ran up to you, along with the rest of the guys. “Now that we're on the other side of them, what do we do now?” Jeongin asked, looking around to see who would answer his question.
“I guess all we need to do now is survive”, you said, walking away from the infected, wanting to be as far away from them as possible.
--------------------------------
It’s been 2 weeks since the outbreak started and you all seem to be doing alright so far, despite the fact that cannibalistic psychopaths are roaming around. So, to rephrase that, you’re doing alright physically but mentally and emotionally? That went out the window the moment the outbreak started. And when you became friends with Lee Know and Jisung but you’ll never tell them that, not wanting your ass kicked. I mean, the two of them are literal chaos, you can never keep up with them.
You all have backpacks full of food, weapons in case you need to use them, as well as another pair of clothes. Who knows what will happen, having a change of clothes is a good idea in your opinion, no matter what the circumstances are.
You’re currently cooped up in an abandoned house, a house which belonged to a family with a son and a daughter, but fled the city once the outbreak started, wanting to get to safety. You don’t even know if they managed to get out of the city, or if they got unlucky. You hope it was the first option.
You were walking around the house, looking at all the pictures of the family who lived there before they fled, and they looked like such a happy family. The son looked about 16 and the daughter about 12 years old. You saw one picture of the 4 of them, and they were smiling brightly, a glimmer in their eyes. The picture was taken on a nice summer day, the 4 of them at the beach. The picture was probably taken by a family member or a friend but it was a nice picture. You suddenly felt yourself starting to cry whilst looking at the picture.
You felt a hand on your shoulder, pulling you out of your trance. You turned your head and saw it was Chan, looking at you with a look in his eyes which means ‘are you ok?’. You gave him a small smile and looked back at the picture. “Do you think they left the city safely? I hope they did. They seem like such a nice family”, you said, putting the picture back. “I hope they did”, Chan said, rubbing your back gently.
You walked up the stairs, wanting to ensure the house is completely empty and safe before coming to a conclusion whether to stay there for the night or not. You looked through the different rooms, all of them seemed to be empty, apart from one room where Jeongin was taking a nap. He looked so cute, a blanket barely covering his body, which had dinosaurs on it. You smiled at the scene in front of you, wanting to take a picture but you didn't have a camera. That’s when you noticed a polaroid on the desk in the room. You took the polaroid, taking a picture of Jeongin. You took the picture out of the polaroid, shaking the image, waiting for it to develop. Once it developed, you put it in your pocket.
After you put the picture in your pocket, a noise caught your attention. It sounded like something heavy fell to the ground. You left the bedroom, walking towards the source of the sound. Another thud, only this time, it was closer and louder. It sounded like it was coming from above. You noticed a hatch in the ceiling, which could be the attic.
You grabbed a broom and hit it against the attic door, causing the door to come down, along with what seemed to be the father of the family in the picture. You screamed, hitting him in the face with the bottom of the broom before taking off and going into the bedroom which Jeongin was in, closing the door and putting a chair up against the door handle.
“What’s going on?” Jeongin asked as he woke up, rubbing his eyes. You made a gesture for him to be quiet, which he questioned but as soon as he heard the noise outside the door, he understood. It sounded like there was more than one person on the other side of the door now and now you were trapped in the room.
“Y/N?! What’s going on?” Hyunjin asked frantically as he ran up the stairs. You freaked out as you heard Hyunjin coming up the stairs, warning him about the infected. Hyunjin screamed once he saw them, freaking out and fell to the floor out of fear. That was when you heard someone else run up the stairs, and then a couple of gunshots. Wait, gunshots? You don’t recall any of you having a gun.
You removed the chair from the door and opened the door slowly, wanting to ensure that you were most definitely safe before leaving the room. You checked outside the door, and saw 4 now lifeless bodies on the floor. That’s when you realised that the family didn’t flee the city, it was too late for them as they got infected and turned. You turned to look at who shot the gun and that’s when you saw Chan holding a pistol.
“Didn’t realise you knew how to fire a gun”, you asked him, not seeming too fazed by the dead bodies on the floor. I mean, you’ve seen your fair share of dead bodies over the past couple of days so at this point, dead bodies don’t faze you anymore. You and Jeongin walked down the stairs, following Chan, Hyunjin following behind you.
“Are you guys ok?” Jisung asked, putting on a jacket which looked two times too big for him. You just nodded because if you spoke, you felt like you were going to break down in tears. “That jacket makes you look like a child because of how big it is”, Changbin said to Jisung, giggling at how cute he looks. Jisung just glared at him but that made Changbin giggle even more. “I’m sorry, you just look so cute with it on”, Changbin said, explaining himself. Everyone started to laugh at the two of them, forgetting about what just happened not even 5 minutes ago.
“Why don’t we sleep down here together? That way, I’ll know we’re safe together”, Chan said, you agreeing with him. You all settled down in the living room, some of you sitting on the couch, some of you lying on the floor, using your bags as pillows.
--------------------------------
You had been asleep for a couple of hours, until you were woken up by the sound of glass smashing. You became aware of your surroundings almost immediately, grabbing the first weapon you found in your bag, which was a crowbar. You alerted the rest of the guys, waking them up, which Lee Know wasn’t very keen on, he hates being woken up.
You headed towards where the sound came from, tiptoeing as to not make a sound. You rounded the corner, seeing broken glass on the floor, which came from the back door. That’s when you heard a grumble coming from the kitchen. You headed towards the kitchen, seeing the back of the intruder.
“Hello?” you spoke up, causing the intruder to slowly turn around. That’s when you saw that the intruder was, in fact, infected. They charged at you screaming, causing you to scream back, hitting them over the head with the crowbar. They fell to the ground, the commotion causing the others to look what’s going on.
You turned around and began running towards the guys but you felt a hand grab your ankle, knocking you to the ground with a yell. The infected climbed on top of you, trying to take a chunk out of you. Still holding the crowbar, you put it in between you and the infected, trying to stop it from infecting you.
All of a sudden, more infected came running into the house, surrounding you. The others fought the other infected while you still tried fighting off the one on top of you. Blood dribbled out of its mouth and onto your cheek, causing you to gag. “Bro, your breath stinks”, you said, before kicking your foot out, kicking the infected back. You got up off the floor, hitting the infected repeatedly with the crowbar, not caring if blood was splatting you in the face. You pushed them back, causing the infected to become impaled on a hook, which was embedded in the wall. It went right through their throat, causing them to make gurgling noises, even more blood spurting out of their mouth.
“Now stay dead, you crazy motherfucker”, you said, not bothering to wipe the blood off your face. You left the kitchen, seeing the other infected dead on the floor. The others also had blood on their faces, and you noticed that Seungmin was clutching his shoulder. “Seungmin, are you ok?” you asked, concern evident in your voice. “Yeah, I’m ok. Though I think I might have dislocated my shoulder in the process of fighting off one of the infected”, he said, hissing at the pain of his shoulder.
“Ok let's get out of here before any more infected show up”, Chan said, grabbing his bag. The rest of you followed suit, grabbing all your things before rushing out of the house, Seungmin hobbling behind you, Jeongin staying with him.
--------------------------------
You have been walking for about 20 minutes before Seungmin started complaining about the pain he was in. He sat down on a bench, still clutching his shoulder only now, he was breathing heavily. You walked towards him, putting a hand on his forehead. Luckily his forehead felt normal, so you didn’t panic.
“Jeongin, hold Seungmin down so he doesn’t budge. Seungmin, put this in your mouth”, you gave a bandana to bite on. “I’m going to push your shoulder back in place on the count of three, ok?” Seungmin nodded, unable to talk due to the bandana in his mouth.
“One”
As soon as you said ‘one’, you pushed his shoulder back in place, Seungmin screaming out in pain. He ripped the bandana out of his mouth, glaring at you. “I thought you said on the count of three!”
“I’m shocked you believed me”, you said, to which Seungmin huffed. Thankfully Seungmin wasn’t clutching his shoulder anymore, the pain finally disappeared. “Thanks”, Seungmin mumbled under his breath, but you managed to hear him, to which you shoved his arm in response.
You carried on walking for a good few hours, fighting off some more infected in the process. You walked through an abandoned village, until you saw what looked like an arsenal. “Hey guys, look”, you said, not giving the others a chance to reply before you ran off.
The others caught up to you and Hyunjin grabbed your arm, but not too hard. He turned you around to look at him and that’s when you saw the look on his face: anger. “Don’t fucking run away like that. What if you were attacked by infected or something?! What if you got yourself killed?” he raised his voice, but not because he’s angry at you, he was just worried.
“I’m sorry. But look, there are still guns left”, you said, changing the subject. Hyunjin just rolled his eyes, used to you changing the subject, but he didn’t want to cause an argument so he just left it. Besides, he loved you too much. You all picked up a few guns, along with bullets for the specific guns you chose.
You picked up a shotgun, a rifle and a couple of handguns because it’s good to have a backup gun in case one of them gets jammed. “I don’t know about you guys but, I’m going to test these bad boys out”, you said, going outside to test out the guns you’ve got.
You put some old bottles you found on a wall, all lined up in a row. You started off with the handguns, putting the bullets in, taking the safety off and aiming them. You pulled the trigger, hitting a bottle. You were pleased with the handguns, putting them in your back (after putting the safety back on, obviously, you don't want to accidentally be shot in the ass). You tested out the rifle next, which had a scope on it so you can focus on any target in the distance. You put the bullets in the rifle, putting the butt of the rifle between your shoulder and cheek. You looked through the scope, focusing on a bottle before firing the trigger, hitting the bottle, blasting it into smithereens. You put the safety back on the rifle, putting the sling over your shoulder. You tested out the shotgun, putting the shotgun shells in. You turned the safety off before aiming it at the bottles. You pulled the trigger, the force almost making you fall backwards. You were pleased with the guns you chose, putting the safety back on and slinging the shotgun over your other shoulder.
Suddenly, Hyunjin came jogging over to you, with worry on his face. “Hey, what’s wrong?” you asked him, turning your body to properly face him. “Um, I don’t know how to use a gun and since you know what you’re doing, I was hoping you could teach me?” he asked, biting his lip in anticipation. You gave him a small smile, walking behind him. You told him how to hold the gun, to which he did perfectly. You put your hands over his, aiming the gun at the remaining bottles on the wall. You talked him through it, until he pulled the trigger, hitting one of the bottles, knocking it to the ground. He smiled, happy that he now knows how to use a gun.
“Thank you, babe”, he said, the pet name leaving his mouth. He turned around, facing you. You looked up at him, a soft smile on your face. Before you knew it, his lips were on yours, capturing them in a deep yet sweet kiss. The kiss only lasted a few seconds but you could feel the emotion being poured into it.
You were the first one to pull away, opening your eyes to see Hyunjin looking at you with a fond expression. Your attention was pulled away from Hyunjin and the sound of shouting coming from inside the arsenal, and the sound of gunshots. “Shit”, Hyunjin said, the both of you running towards the arsenal. That’s when you saw the others running out of the arsenal, shouting for the two of you to run the other way. As soon as the others were out, a massive explosion came from it, the shop bursting into flames, the explosion blasting you backwards.
You groaned as your whole body ached. You touched your forehead, feeling blood trickling down your temples. You sat up, seeing the others on the ground. That’s when you saw an army truck speeding past, people holding scary looking guns. You laid back down, not wanting to be seen by them. They drove past you, and you waited until they were out of sight before getting back up.
“Guys?” you said, hoping that the others were okay. Thankfully, they were all okay as they started moving, getting up slowly. “What the fuck happened in there?” you asked, wondering what the heck happened. “One moment, we were just looking around and then the next thing I knew, I saw that truck outside, firing their guns. We started running out when they threw grenades”, Changbin said.
“Is everyone alright?” Chan asked, checking everyone out to see if they had any injuries. Everyone seemed alright, apart from the odd bruise and scrape. Jeongin, however, had a massive gash on his face, blood covering his cheek. “Fuck, Jeongin, you’re bleeding”, Chan said, holding his face.
“Really? I didn’t realise”, he said sarcastically, wincing at the pain. Luckily you had a mini first aid kit in your bag, taking it out. Chan treated Jeongin’s wound, carefully putting a bandage on it, despite Jeongin’s protests.
You started walking again after that, the sun starting to set. You could feel the air becoming colder the more the sun set, putting your jacket on.
--------------------------------
You’ve been walking for god knows how long, the sun now replaced with the moon in the sky. You haven’t seen any infected for a while, which you were glad about. But you were also cautious because who knows what could jump out at you. You walked up a hill, reaching the top. That’s when you saw it: a safe camp in the distance.
“Hey guys, look”, you said as you pointed at it. The others saw it too, feeling a slight chance of hope that they’ve found a place they’ll feel safe. “Do you think they’ll let us in?” Felix asked, hoping that they’ll be allowed in. “There’s only one way to find out”, Chan said, walking down the hill, the rest of you following him.
You made it to the front of the safe camp, a security light turning on, blinding you. Someone walked up to the gate, looking at you. “Are any of you infected?”, they asked, wanting to know if any of you have been bitten or not.
“We’re all clean”, you answered, the others agreeing with you. The person spoke into a walkie talkie, probably to the leader of the camp. After they received an order from the boss, the person nodded to someone, and that’s when the gates opened, letting you in. You followed the person, being shown around the camp. Others looked at you, probably wary since you’re newcomers to the camp, but you didn’t blame them, especially regarding the circumstances.
You were shown where you’ll be staying, and you were glad that you’ll finally have your own bed to sleep in after such a long time. You made yourself at home, putting your bag on the floor as you laid down on the bed. “This is nice”, you said to yourself, a small smile on your face.
“Dinner will be in an hour so, once you’ve settled in, come to the cafeteria. It’s down the hall, through the big doors. You won’t miss it. Oh, my name is Hoseok, by the way”, Hoseok introduced himself, giving you a small smile, to which you returned. You introduced yourself too, before he left.
You soon went to the cafeteria once you settled in, walking through the big doors. You saw the others sitting down, already eating. You grabbed something to eat before joining them, sitting by Hyunjin. “How’s your room?” Hyunjin asked, before swallowing a piece of chicken. “It’s nice. I’m so glad I have my own bed. It’s really comfy”, you said, eating some rice.
You were engaged in a conversation, laughing at something Jisung said. Though your conversation was interrupted by a long bang. The doors swung open, revealing a woman with short black hair, covered in tattoos and piercings. She looked intimidating, her eyes had a look in her eyes which you couldn’t make out. If looks could kill, many people in the room would be dead already. “Haneul, stop”, Hoseok said, trying to stop the girl, but she didn’t listen. She kept walking until she stopped at a table. She said something to one of the guys at the table, you couldn’t make out what she was saying as she was too far away but you knew it wasn’t good. The next thing you know, she hit the guy, knocking him off his seat.
Great, you’re not even at the safe camp for a whole day and there’s already a fight. Hoseok and who you assumed to be the leader of the camp broke the fight, Hoseok holding Haneul. “Stop it, the both of you. If you can’t behave then you’ll have to leave”, the leader said, before leaving. You must have looked at Haneul for a bit too long as she glared at you. “What are you looking at, bitch?” she spat, causing Hyunjin to almost jump out of his seat before you stopped him.
“Oh, nothing. Just admiring your tattoos”, you said, giving a smile. Haneul just rolled her eyes, leaving the cafeteria. Well, that’s someone you don’t want to mess with.
--------------------------------
You woke up the next morning, having a good night's sleep after a long time. You slipped a black tank top on, along with your black pants and combat boots. You put your jacket on over the top, about to leave your bedroom. Before you left, though, you ensured that you put your pocket knife in your boot, as well as hiding your gun in your pants, just in case something happened.
You were ready to leave your bedroom, opening the door. You slipped out of your bedroom and as you were about to head outside, you heard a voice. “Hey, bitch”, it was Haneul. What did she want? “What do you want?” you asked nicely, not wanting to get on her bad side. Then again, is she ever nice? “I just wanted to let you know that I run this camp so you better not disobey”, she said, causing you to laugh. “I’m sorry but that's hilarious. You don’t run this camp, Jongwoo does”, Jongwoo being the leader of the camp. “Also, I’m not scared of you. I bet you’re just an insecure little girl who tries to look tough”, you said, walking off. Haneul didn’t like that, however, as she turned you around and punched you square in the jaw. “Don’t insult me, you little fucker”, she said, gripping your jacket.
“Hey, what’s going on here?” Hoseok said, walking down the hallway. The both of you looked at him, Hoseok seeing blood trickle down your mouth. “Haneul, get off them, now”, Hoseok ordered, his voice firm. Haneul let go of you, huffing and walking off. Hoseok walked up to you, looking at you. “You ok?” he asked, wiping the blood off your mouth. All you did was smile, before walking off.
You went outside, seeing Hyunjin and Chan. You ran up to them, giving them a smile. They went to smile back before they noticed the bruise forming on your face. “What the fuck happened?!” Hyunjin said, holding your face gently. “Remind me to never insult Haneul again”, was all you said before laughing slightly.
The three of you did your errands, which include going to the armory and cleaning the guns. You spent about 30 minutes cleaning the weapons, trying to make the time as enthusiastic as possible by cracking jokes.
All of a sudden, there was a commotion coming from outside, the sound of shouting causing you to go out and see what was happening. You saw Haneul pointing a gun at the same guy she fought yesterday, his face bleeding. “Fucking give it to me!” she shouted, waving the gun around, making everyone hide behind something.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, for fucks sake!” the guy shouted, but Haneul didn’t like that. She pulled the trigger, shooting the guy in the head. Everyone screamed, the guy falling to the ground. “Does anyone else want to fucking argue with me?” she shouted, but no one answered. You saw Jisung and Lee Know holding hands, scared out of their minds. Jeongin, Seungmin and Felix were hiding behind Changbin, who didn’t even look scared but you knew he was. Whenever Changbin was scared of something, he played with his fingers, and that’s exactly what he was doing.
You didn’t want anything happening to them so you walked towards Haneul, Hyunjin and Chan trying to stop you. You took your gun out from the back of your pants, aimed it in the air and pulled the trigger, getting Haneul’s attention. “Ah, look who decided to show up”, Haneul said, now putting her gun at you. “Haneul, stop this. This is supposed to be a safe camp but with you acting the way you are, you’re not making it safe”, you said, slowly walking towards her.
“Nowhere is safe anymore! Wherever I go, I always fear for my life that I’m going to become infected, which is what happened to my family”, Haneul said, as tears started streaming down her cheeks. “Look, I understand your fear but, is really acting this way going to help?” you said, being careful with your words, as well as your movements.
As soon as you were close enough, and Haneul had her guard down, you lunged forward and tried taking the gun out of her hand but in the process, Haneul kicked your leg, knocking you to the ground. “That was a stupid move”, Haneul said, aiming the gun at you as you laid on the ground. Without thinking, you kicked her in the shin, making her cry out in pain. She dropped the gun, the gun going off, luckily missing you and the others in the back. You tackled her to the ground, hitting her in the face.
“You think you’re the only one who’s scared? What about everyone here? We’re all fucking terrified so instead of thinking about yourself, think about the safety of everyone else, for fucks sake. Stop being a selfish, fucking bitch”, you screamed, repeatedly hitting her. Haneul flipped you over, now getting on top of you. She wrapped her hands around your throat, choking you.
The others ran to help, trying to get Haneul off you. Changbin tried pulling Haneul but she wouldn’t budge. All of a sudden, there was another gun going off. It was Jongwoo, storming over to where you were. “What the fuck is going on here?!” he shouted, and that’s when he saw Haneul trying to kill you. He had no other option: he pointed his gun at Haneul and pulled the trigger, shooting her in the head. She fell on top of you, her hands loosening around your throat. You threw her off you, gasping for air. You coughed a couple of times before you managed to breathe properly.
“Jongwoo, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have provoked her”, you said, now crying because Haneul is dead, and you felt guilty because if you didn’t provoke her, she would probably still be alive. “Hey, kid, it’s not your fault, ok? I should have seen this coming a mile away. Ever since she arrived a couple of days ago, she’s been a danger to herself and everyone around her. I shouldn’t have let her in. I know that sounds harsh but it’s true”, Jongwoo said, patting you on the shoulder.
You looked down at Haneul’s lifeless body, her body in a pool of her own blood. You walked off, ignoring the calls of your name from the others. You just wanted to be alone, still processing what just happened. You walked to your room, slamming the door and locking it. You jumped onto your bed, lying face down as you cried into the pillow, your throat still hurting from when Haneul tried choking you to death. You soon fell asleep not too long after that, soon to be haunted by the image of Haneul’s lifeless body.
--------------------------------
You’ve been locked in your room for a few days now, one of the guys (mainly Hyunjin, though) bringing you some food and something to drink throughout the days you’ve been cooped up in your room.
You were currently lying on your bed, looking up at the ceiling with blank eyes. You were lost in your thoughts until there was a bang at your door, which scared you. You thought it was nothing until it happened again. You got off your bed and walked towards the door. “Who is it?” you asked whoever was on the other side.
“It’s me”, it was Hyunjin. You unlocked the door and opened it, revealing a dishevelled Hyunjin. “What’s going on?” you asked, your voice monotonous. “We need to leave. Now”, he said, causing you to raise your eyebrows. “The others are waiting for us, let’s go”, Hyunjin said, going into your room and grabbing your bag for you, along with your guns before giving them to you. You tried getting his attention but he was too occupied with leaving for some reason, so you had to shout at him.
“Hyunjin!” you shouted, finally getting his attention, him now looking at you. “What’s going on?!?” you asked again, wanting to know why you had to leave. “While you have been locked in your room, the rest of us have been secretly exploring the place, trying to figure out if this safe camp is really a safe place”, Hyunjin explained, the both of you sitting on your bed at this point.
You nodded for him to continue, looking at him with fear in your eyes. “y/n, these people are dangerous. Hoseok and Jongwoo aren’t nice people. They have their own torture room. There are god knows how many dead bodies in there, tied up and mutilated. We need to leave and get as far away from here as possible”, he said, grabbing your hand. You put your bag on, slinging the shotgun and rifle over your shoulders and left with him, going to find the others, being as quiet as possible.
You caught up with the others, trying to find a way out through the back of the camp but unfortunately, there’s only one way out of the camp: through the front gates, which are guarded 24/7 by guards. “What do we do?” Jisung asked, his voice louder than a whisper, but quieter than his usual speaking voice. “I mean, we can’t just go all out guns-a-blazing, that’s one way of getting ourselves killed”, to which you all agreed. You had to think strategically about this.
“Hey, what are you guys doing back here?! You’re not allowed to be here”, one of the guards said, pointing his guns at you. You didn’t know what else to do so you just pointed your gun at him and pulled the trigger, shooting him in the chest, making him fall backwards. “Shit”, Jisung said as he started freaking out, which is understandable if you just saw someone shoot another person.
All of a sudden, an alarm started going off, along with red lights going off throughout the camp. “Ok, now we definitely need to leave”, you said, holding your rifle. All of you started running, shooting anyone who tries to attack you in the process.
You managed to make it to the front, getting closer to the gates. You reached the gates but you didn’t know how to open them. Changbin climbed up a ladder to hopefully find a button that opens the gates. “Shit, someone has destroyed the control pad. They don’t want us to leave”, Changbin said, screaming out of frustration.
“Well, well, well. What do we have here?” a voice said, and you turned around to see Jongwoo and Hoseok standing behind him. Hoseok had a smirk on his face, and you just wanted to slap the expression off his face. “We know what you have been up to, there’s nowhere to hide”, Hyunjin said, pointing his gun at them.
Whilst you were face to face with Hoseok and Jongwoo, Jisung remembered that he had some grenades in his bag, trying to get your attention but being subtle about it. You turned around slightly, seeing what Jisung had in his bag, signalling to you that he was going to put them by the gate.
“I thought we were really safe here. But turns out, that was a ploy, wasn’t it? Wanting us to feel like we were all safe before you end up torturing us and killing us. You sick bastards”, you spat, moving forwards to get closer to them, so Jisung could do what he needed to do.
“What are you guys up to?” Jongwoo asked, suspicious of your movements. “What do you mean?” you replied, acting innocent. “Oh cut the crap, I know exactly what you’re doing”, Hoseok spat, uncrossing his arms. “Oh, really?” was all you said before aiming your gun and shooting Hoseok in the head, the bullet going straight through his forehead, his body dropping to the ground with a thud.
“You fucking bitch”, Jongwoo shouted, lunging forward to try and grab you but you were quicker, hitting the butt of your rifle over his head, causing his to yell out in pain. Jisung managed to sort the grenades out, pulling the pin out of them, throwing them against the gates. “Take cover”, he shouted, running for cover, taking Lee Know with him as he threw himself behind a metal container. The grenades blew the gates open, metal flying everywhere.
While Jisung was preparing the grenades, with the help of Lee Know, you continued fighting Jongwoo. He tried hitting you but kept missing, you being too quick for him. That’s when you heard Jisung shout to take cover, but luckily, the rest of you were far away enough from the gate. As soon as you were sure you were able to leave, you didn’t think twice before running towards the gate.
“Don’t leave me here, you fucking idiots”, Jongwoo screamed but you didn’t pay any attention to him. You didn’t look back as you continued running, getting as far away from there as possible. Once you were sure you were far enough away, you stopped running. You hugged Hyunjin, clinging onto him. He hugged you back tightly, kissing the top of your head. You hugged the rest of the guys too, which Lee Know tried to avoid but you know deep down, he loved the hug you gave him.
--------------------------------
The sun had risen into the sky once you arrived at an abandoned school, which you were sure had infected inside. “I ain’t going in there”, Lee Know said, fear taking over him. “Listen, I don’t want to go in there either but I’m pretty sure there is the only way to go because as you can see, everywhere else is blocked”, you said, which was true. The only way forward was through the school.
As soon as you were about to walk towards the school, you heard infected coming towards you. There were a couple of them running towards you, so you ran as fast as you could towards the school. The only way into the school was through an open window, which you had to climb to get to.
“There’s our way in but how are we going to get up there?” you said, not seeing anything that you could use to climb up there. Thankfully there was a broken ladder lying on the floor. It may be broken but you could still use it, as long as you’re careful.
You used the ladder one by one, going in through the open window. The last person to use the ladder was Jisung, climbing up towards the window. He looked down at the infected, who looked up at Jisung, looking lost. “At least they can’t climb, right?” Jisung said as he laughed, but his laugh was soon cut off as one of the infected started to climb the ladder. Jisung screamed like a girl, kicking the infected in the face, making them fall to the ground. Jisung climbed as fast as he could, going through the open window and pushing the ladder to the floor.
Jisung fell to the floor, his legs like jelly. “I’m never doing this ever again”, he said as he tried catching his breath. “Come on, let’s keep going”, Chan said, helping Jisung up. You progressed through the abandoned school, surprisingly not seeing any infected inside. Though you were proved wrong when you rounded the corner and came face to face with one of them, being tackled to the ground.
“y/n!” Hyunjin yelled, shooting the infected in the head before kicking it off you. He helped you up, checking to see if you’re ok. “I guess I should be careful where I walk”, you said as you nervously chuckled. You walked through the school more carefully, always being on guard, having your gun on you at all times.
“Hey, guys?” Jeongin said, breaking the silence. “If I ever get bitten, I want one of you to shoot me”, Jeongin said, causing you to stop. “That’s never going to happen, ok?” you said, not wanting to think about any of you getting infected. Jeongin was about to say something else before he heard a noise.
“Did you hear that?” he asked, looking all around him. “Yeah, it sounded like it came from behind us”, you said, turning around, aiming your gun. An infected started running towards you, firing your gun, shooting them in the head. Before you knew it, about a dozen infected came running towards you.
“Shit, run!”, Chan shouted, all of you running through the school. You didn’t bother looking back, not wanting to slow down. You were too busy running away from the infected behind you, you didn’t think about any infected being in front of you, before it was too late. You were completely surrounded by them, nowhere to run.
“What do we do? We’re surrounded by them”, Felix said, shooting them in the head. “Get down!” you heard a voice shout but you don’t know where it came from. You still listened to the voice, all of you getting down. An RPG came shooting past you, blasting all the infected into smithereens. Once you knew it was safe, you all stood up, turning around to see who shot the gun.
“You could have killed us”, Chan said, talking to them. “I still could, you know”, they said, a hint of annoyance in their voice. “Come on out before I change my mind”, they said, all of you running out of the school. “Who is this guy?” you asked Hyunjin, him shaking his head as he has no idea either.
“The name is Jackson, by the way”, he said, introducing himself. You all followed him, wondering where he was taking you. Hopefully he wasn’t taking you to your death because if he was, you were going to haunt him.
“And before you ask, no I’m not going to kill you”, Jackson said, causing you to stop in your tracks, did he just read your fucking mind? You continued to follow him until you reached an abandoned house, which you assumed was where Jackson was living. You looked around the house, finding a picture on a wall. You went to touch it before Jackson raised his voice, “don’t fucking touch anything”.
“Hey, don’t talk to her like that”, Hyunjin said, coming up to Jackson, coming face to face with him. “Hey, Hyunjin, it’s ok”, you said, breaking them up. “I’m sorry, I should have asked before touching anything. I was just looking at the picture on the wall”, you said, pointing to the picture you were on about. It was a picture of 2 guys, one of them being Jackson. “The other guy is my boyfriend. Well, was my boyfriend, before he got infected and I had to shoot him”, Jackson said, no emotion in his voice. You felt bad for asking about it, walking off.
“Do any of you know how to drive?” Jackson asked as he walked into his garage, a truck parked in the middle of it. “I do”, Lee Know said, walking up to the car. “Unfortunately, the car won’t start as the battery is dead but I’m sure there is another battery around here somewhere”.
--------------------------------
Lee Know started the car, and it finally worked, all of you getting into the truck, including Jackson. Luckily the truck was big enough to fit all 10 of you, the remainder of you sitting in the back of the truck. “Do you know where you’re going, kid?” Jackson asked Lee Know, to which he responded that he didn’t, just wanted to drive as far away as possible.
Music was playing on the radio, a music cassette which Lee Know found. It wasn’t his music taste but it would do. You, Hyunjin and Jeongin were sitting in the back of the truck, having your guns out just in case you get raided by infected. Lee Know drove for about half an hour, until you were on the other side of the city, getting out of the truck.
“Thanks for this, Jackson”, Chan said, bowing to him. Jackson didn’t say anything but you could tell by his body language and facial expression that he thanked you back, before getting back in his truck, driving away. The part of the city you were in looked worse: buildings had collapsed, remnants of cars that had caught fire, as well as part of the road had caved in.
“Where to know?” you asked, trying to find the way forward. “I have no idea”, Chan said, looking lost. “We could try looking in one of the buildings”, Seungmin suggested, which seemed like the best choice. “We should split up since there are a couple of buildings to look in”, Chan said, which you didn’t like the idea but you had no choice. “If you manage to find a way out, shoot your gun once”, Chan said, to which you questioned, “how will we know which gun shot is the right one?” you asked to which Chan replied, “You’ll know, don’t worry”. You didn’t question him after that, not wanting to confuse yourself even more.
You split up into three groups: you, Hyunjin and Jeongin in one group, Chan, Changbin and Seungmin in the other group and Lee Know, Jisung and Felix in the last group. You went into different buildings, looking around.
You, Hyunjin and Jeongin
“What are we actually looking for, again?” Jeongin asked, looking around the building. “A way out, I guess”, you answered, walking up some stairs. As soon as you walked around the corner, you saw a couple of infected walking round. You slowly walked up behind one of them, stabbing it in the neck, dropping it to the ground. Hyunjin and Jeongin dealt with the others, silently killing them so as to not make a noise just in case there were others walking around.
You started to smell something really bad, like rotting meat. “Fuck, what’s that awful smell?” you said, holding your nose. You walked into a room, and that’s where you saw where the smell was coming from. In the middle of the room, there was a pile of dead bodies, which looked like it was set on fire by someone.
“That’s disgusting”, Hyunjin said, gagging at the awful smell. Jeongin looked like he was going to throw up, holding his chest. “Let’s get out of this room before I actually throw up”, Jeongin said, gagging. You all left the room, closing the door behind you to try and get rid of the smell. You progressed further through the building, hopefully trying to find a way out but so far, you’re not having any luck.
“I wonder how the others are doing”, Jeongin said, hoping the others were okay. He was too focused on trying to find a way out that he didn’t see the infected running towards him, before it was too late. “Jeongin!” you shouted, watching Jeongin being tackled towards the window, his body going out of it.
Chan, Changbin and Seungmin
“I hate this so much”, Changbin huffed, wanting nothing more than for this to be over. “Hey, you’re not the only one, shorty”, Seungmin said, rolling his eyes. “Hey! I’m not short. I’m just pocket sized”, Changbin argued, huffing again. Chan managed to stop them both bickering, progressing further into the building.
They haven’t seen any infected yet, since they could hardly see anything. “It’s so dark, I can hardly see anything”, Changbin said, squinting his eyes. There was hardly any light being shone into the building, apart from the odd light coming from some windows. “I wish I had a flashlight”, Changbin said, to which Seungmin whacked him over the head.
“Hey! What was that for?” Changbin said, crossing his arms. “I thought you had a flashlight in your bag? If you stopped constantly whining, you would realise that”, Seungmin said, tired of his whining. That’s when the realisation came to Changbin that he did, in fact, have a flashlight in his bag.
All three of them held their flashlights, which made it better for them to see. That’s when they saw some infected roaming around the halls in the building, causing them to be startled, resulting in Changbin falling over. The sound alerted the infected, causing them to charge after them. Chan and Seungmin fired their guns, shooting the infected, them falling to the ground. Changbin was too freaked out to do anything, still sitting on the floor.
After all the infected were shot, Chan and Seungmin put their guns away, checking on Changbin. “Bro, you good?” Chan asked him, holding his hand out for him to grab, helping him up. “Am I good? Nope, absolutely not, I’m 100% fucking far from good”, Changbin said, terrified out of his mind.
Changbin walked forward, freaked out. He started pacing around, his breathing getting heavier as the minutes passed. “Changbin, calm down”, Chan said, walking towards him. “Calm down?! How can I calm down when we’re in the middle of a fucking apocalypse!”, Changbin cried, tears now streaming down his face. Before he knew it, an infected charged through a door, knocking him to the ground. The sound of screaming was cut off by a gunshot.
Lee Know, Jisung and Felix
“Jisung, please for the love of god, stop whistling”, Lee Know said, Jisung’s whistling starting to annoy him. Jisung wanted to annoy him a bit more by whistling again but his whistling was cut off by the sound of a groan. “What was that?” Jisung whisper-shouted, wondering where it came from. “It came from that way”, Felix said, pointing in the direction of where the sound came from.
Jisung walked in front, walking towards where the sound was coming from, trying to be brave but in reality, he was scared shitless and he had no idea why he decided to go first. He had his gun out, holding it in front of him just in case something jumped out in front of him. “Jisung, wait!” Lee Know whisper-shouted, wanting Jisung to wait for them. They managed to catch up to him, watching Jisung as he walked down a long corridor.
The sound of the groaning was getting louder, the three of them standing outside where the sound was coming from. Lee Know counted to three, before kicking the door open, firing his gun at any infected he sees. Felix and Jisung did the same, shooting infected in the head, seeing their bodies fall to the ground.
“That went better than I expected”, Jisung said, smiling slightly. His smile faded, however, as he saw an infected coming up behind Lee Know, pushing him out of the way to shoot it in the face, watching as its body fell to the ground. Lee Know felt his heart beating out of his chest, holding it. “Shit, thanks Jisungie”, Lee Know said, the nickname falling off his tongue. The three of them left the room, not expecting an infected to be out there. Jsiung didn’t think as he ran off, his fight or flight kicked in (in this case, flight kicked in first). He didn’t bother looking back, screaming his head off. He went to open a door, but what he didn’t realise was that the room behind the door had completely caved in, the door now leading to the outside. Which was a problem since the three of them were nowhere near the ground.
You, Hyunjin and Jeongin
“Jeongin!” you shouted, seeing his body going out the window. Luckily, he grabbed onto the window sill just in time, the infected falling to the ground. You ran up to the window, and saw Jeongin hanging onto the window sill. “You okay?!” you asked, reaching your hand out for him to grab. He nodded as you helped him up, immediately hugging you as soon as he was on his feet. He was like a little brother to you, wanting nothing more than to protect him.
Hyunjin ran up to the two of you, hugging Jeongin as soon as he let go of you. Jeongin hugged him back, clinging onto the elder. He started crying into his chest, Hyunjin patting his head, which always calms him down. “Shall we continue trying to find a way out?” you asked, going up a flight of stairs, which the other two followed you. You went up a couple flights of stairs, hoping to reach the top but unfortunately, the way out was blocked. “I hope the others have better luck at finding a way out”, you said, going back down the stairs. That’s when you heard the singular gun shot, signalling that one of the other groups had found the way out.
Chan, Changbin and Seungmin
The sound of screaming was cut off by a gunshot, the infected becoming limp. Chan pushed the infected off of Changbin’s body, getting scared due to Changbin not moving. “Changbin?” Chan said, shaking the younger’s body, hoping he would wake up. Changbin groaned, touching his neck. His eyes widened as he felt a chunk of his neck was bitten off.
“Guys? Please get away from me”, Changbin said as he stood up, holding his neck. Both Chan and Seungmin were confused until it clicked: Changbin is infected. “No, this can’t be happening. We were all supposed to survive this”, Seungmin said, tears starting to stream down his face. Changbin started to feel his whole body twitch, his vision becoming blurry. “Chan, I want you to shoot me”, Changbin said, not wanting to become a cannibalistic psychopath. Chan held his gun by his side, not wanting to shoot one of his best friends.
“I can’t do it”, Chan cried. He didn’t want to shoot him but he also didn’t want Changbin to turn into one of those things. If that’s what Changbin wanted then, that’s what he’s going to get.
“Turn around, Changbin”, Chan said, tears starting to blur his vision. They were all a sobbing mess at this point. Changbin turned around, looking out the window, seeing birds fly in the distance. Changbin smiled slightly, his eyes closed as he waited for the sound of the gunshot. Chan pointed the gun at the back of Changbin’s head, his hand shaking. He closed his eyes, putting his finger on the trigger. He pulled the trigger, the bullet going through the back of Changbin’s head, his now lifeless body dropping to the floor.
It took Chan and Seungmin a moment to process what happened and once they did, they just broke. They sat on the floor for a good few minutes, not wanting to leave their now dead friend. But unfortunately, they had to. They needed to find a way out. “We will survive for you, Changbin”, Seungmin said, holding Changbin’s cold hand. They both progressed further into the building, going up some stairs to hopefully go to the top. They managed to reach the top, and thankfully, it wasn’t blocked. They opened the door, going out into the fresh air. They managed to find the way out. Chan held his gun in the air, firing the gun, signalling that they found the way out.
Lee Know, Jisung and Felix
Jisung opened the door, almost falling to his death. If it wasn’t for Lee Know, he would have. Lee Know shot the infected before coming to save him, putting his arm around his waist to stop him from falling.
“Next time, don’t run off. It’s like trying to babysit a child”, Lee Know said, pulling Jisung away from the edge. All of a sudden, Felix came running towards them, out of breath. “What’s wrong?” Lee Know said, watching Felix trying to catch his breath. “We have a problem”, Felix said, pointing towards the end of the corridor. The three of them slowly walked towards the end and that’s when they heard it: a voice. No, more than one voice. Lee Know peaked into the room, trying to be as quiet as possible. He saw a couple of men in the room, wearing some sort of uniform.
“Let’s get out of here”, Lee Know said, closing the door quietly and tiptoeing away from the door. Unfortunately, due to Jisung’s clumsiness, he accidentally knocked something over, causing it to make a loud bang. “What was that?” a voice said, walking towards the door. The three of them just stood there, holding their guns in front of them. A man walked out of the room, holding a gun. He looked scary: a couple of scars on his face, big muscles and short black hair. He didn’t look very friendly, and judging by the profanities he starts shouting, he definitely isn’t a nice person.
“Where the fuck are you, you shit heads?” he growled, cocking his gun. That’s when Lee Know decided to make the brave move by coming out of hiding, shooting the guy in the chest, causing him to fall backwards with a thud. “What the fuck?!” another voice said, and that’s when everyone came running out of the room, all holding guns. Lee Know, Jisung and Felix had no choice but to start shooting, it was a kill or be killed situation and they didn't want to die.
Once they were sure they all weren’t moving, the three of them progressed further into the building, trying to find a way out. Though they didn’t get very far as they heard the sound of a single gunshot, which is the signal that one of the other groups had found a way out.
--------------------------------
You met Lee Know, Jisung and Felix outside, wanting to go into the other building together. “I really hope the others are okay”, you said, running into the building, the others following. You ran up the stairs, not bothering to look where you were going, just wanting to get to the top as quickly as possible. As you rounded the corner, you saw someone lying on the ground. You walked closer to them but you soon regretted it. As you were close enough to see the person, you saw that it was Changbin. Blood pooled around his lifeless body, making you fall backwards and screamed. You saw that he had a chunk of his neck bitten off, realising that he got infected.
The others saw his lifeless body, everyone now crying. You all sat by his lifeless body for a few minutes, mourning him. You kissed your hand and pressed your hand to his cheek, before getting up and going towards the door, which was the way out.
All of you saw Chan and Seungmin standing on the rooftop. “What the hell happened?” you yelled, but not in an angry way. “We got bombarded by infected, causing Changbin to have a mental breakdown afterwards. He got jumped by one infected which we didn’t know was there, resulting in him getting bitten. Changbin didn’t want to turn into one of those things so… he wanted me to shoot him”, Chan explained, a few stray tears rolling down his cheek.
“It wasn’t supposed to be like this. We were supposed to survive this outbreak together! Now Changbin is fucking dead. I just want this to fucking end already”, Jeongin screamed to no one in particular, just venting his thoughts. Chan managed to calm the younger one down, his breathing becoming normal again.
“All we can do now is keep going forward. That’s what Changbin would want us to do, isn’t it? Despite him being scared of certain situations, he never backed down, no matter what”, you said, everyone agreeing with you. Changbin was tougher than he thought himself out to be, never backing down from a fight, no matter how scared he seemed. Whether that be someone insulting his friends or being in a dangerous situation such as the one you’re in now, Changbin never turned his back on things, no matter how tough things got.
You climbed down the ladder, leading down to the other side of the building, your feet landing on the ground. You walked into the middle of the street, but you didn’t get far as the same truck you saw back at the arsenal came driving past, all of you hiding behind concrete barriers. “Where the fuck did they come from?” Chan whispered, keeping his head down whilst trying to subtly look at what they are doing. “I have no idea but it looks like they’re looking for something. Or someone”, Lee Know said, sitting with his back against the barrier. “Come out, come out wherever you are”, a voice spoke up, coming from the truck. His voice sounded gruff, his tone threatening.
“What the fuck, I thought he went to prison”, you said, fear in your voice. “Wait, you know the guy?” Hyunjin asked, looking at you. You hesitated to answer him, but they needed to know. “That’s my ex. Yes, the abusive one. That’s the guy who tried to kill me, but luckily I managed to get away from him and called the police, who arrested him. I haven’t seen him since that day 2 years ago”, you explained, the memories of him beating you coming back.
When you first started dating your ex, who goes by the name of Minhyung, he was the sweetest person. He took you out on dates, bought you gifts and treated you like royalty. He always gave you affection, whether it was holding hands or cuddling, or giving you the most breathtaking kisses. But that soon changed when he started showing his true colours. His whole sweet act with you was just a facade, wanting you to think he was this sweet angel, just so he couldn’t make you leave the relationship.
It all started when he came home drunk one day, seeing you on the couch, watching your favourite tv show. When he saw you watching it without him, he got aggressive. Which is stupid because, it’s just a tv show, it’s not like you kicked him or anything. That’s when he first hit you. He didn’t even show remorse, his eyes full of hate. That went on for a few months, until you had enough. You sat him down one day, twiddling your fingers. You feared his reaction but you feared for your safety more than anything.
That’s when you said those 5 words: “I want to break up”. Minhyung didn’t like that at all. He screamed, saying that he owes you and you can’t go anywhere. You stood your ground, despite how terrified you were, telling him that you’re sick of his behaviour and the abuse you received from him, wanting nothing more than for it to stop. That’s when he hit you over and over again, first with his fists. You managed to get away from him, locking yourself in the bathroom.
You heard him shout after you, standing outside the bathroom door. He banged on the door, demanding that you unlocked the door for him. You didn’t listen, covering your ears to block out his shouting. After a while, his shouting stopped, removing your hands from your ears. You thought you were safe, but that feeling went away as quick as it came, Minhyung now destroying the door with an axe. You had no idea where he got the axe from but at the same time, you didn’t want to know.
You screamed as Minhyung made a hole in the door, putting his hand through to unlock the door. You backed away from him, your back hitting the wall. You were trapped. “I told you, you can’t get away from me, you stupid bitch”, he snarled, grabbing your ankles. You continued screaming as he pulled you out the bathroom, getting on top of you. He wrapped his hands around your neck, applying pressure on it.
“If you really want to leave me then, I guess I’ll make you leave for good”, he said, a sickening smile on his face. You struggled against him, trying to pry his hands off you. He started slamming your body on the floor, shouting profanities at you. You had to do something before he killed you. Without thinking, you reached your hand out, putting your hand on his face. You dug your nails into his left eye, causing him to cry out in pain. He took his hands off around your neck, and you kicked him in the shin, making him roll off your body.
You got up quickly, running away from him. You ran downstairs, grabbed your phone and immediately called the police. Thankfully they got there within 10 minutes of you putting the phone down, hiding from Minhyung. Your neighbour looked after you while Minhyung got arrested, which you thanked them for.
You were brought out of your thoughts by Hyunjin poking you gently, asking if you were okay. “I’m not scared of him anymore. I mean, I still kind of am but after a lot of therapy, I managed to deal with it”, you said, looking if they were still there, which they were. “Come on out, you stupid bitch”, Minhyung said, now coming out of the truck. Shit, you were all in trouble. Your heart was racing, you were surprised none of the guys could hear it. He was getting closer to where you were, his footsteps getting louder, until…
“Boss, I don’t think y/n is here”, one of his guys said, causing Minhyung to groan and walk back to the truck. The truck soon drove off, speeding off. You let out a breath you didn’t realise you were holding, standing up once you were sure they were gone. “That was close”, Chan said, checking his surroundings, making sure no one else sneaks up on you. “Alright, it’s clear. Let’s go”, and at that, you continued on walking.
--------------------------------
The sun had started to set, the colder air causing shivers down your spine so you put your jacket on to keep yourself warm. “We haven’t seen any infected for a while, which I’m glad about”, Jisung said, feeling slightly safer. “Please don’t jinx us, Jisung”, Lee Know said, causing them to bicker. You just rolled your eyes at the pair, they seriously acted like an old married couple.
“Oi, love birds, if you would stop bickering, you’ll notice that we’re about to go into the underground subway, which means going into the dark so get your flashlights out”, Seungmin said, getting his flashlight out ready. The two stopped bickering and listened to him, getting their flashlights out. You all went into the underground subway, which was slightly flooded, the water coming up to just below your knees. You managed to walk through it though, even though it was a slight struggle.
Seungmin was right though, it was dark. Not too dark that you couldn’t see anything but dark enough that you had to use your torches. “I hate this, ew, this water feels so murky. It’s probably sewage water, filled with shit and piss. I think I’m going to throw up just thinking about it”, Jisung said, being dramatic, as per usual. “Jisung, if you don’t stop, I will turn you into a human flashlight because I will shove this flashlight so far up your ass, your entire body will start glowing”, Seungmin threatened, getting ready to shove the flashlight up his ass.
“Hey guys, stop it”, Chan said, suddenly going quiet. Everyone else went quiet too, wondering what Chan heard. That’s when they heard splashing coming from a distance. “I swear to god, if that’s an infected piece of shit, I will wreak havoc”, Jisung said, not wanting to move. “Stop being dramatic”, Lee Know said, who also wasn’t moving.
The splashing got closer, putting all of you on edge. “What the fuck is that?!” Felix said, shining his flashlight. That’s when an infected submerged out of the water, charging at you. You fired your gun, shooting it, causing it to fall back into the water with a massive splash. “That was close”, Jeongin said. “You still going to wreak havoc, Jisung?” Seungmin said jokingly, knowing full well that Jisung won’t do that. “Shut up, Seungmin”, Jisung said, rolling his eyes.
You progressed further through the subway, thankfully being able to walk normally, now that you reached part of it that wasn’t flooded. You reached the end of the subway, but it was blocked due to rubble blocking the exit. “Well, shit. How are we supposed to get out?” Hyunjin said, feeling stumped. “Hey, guys? Does that look like a way out?” Jeongin asked, pointing to a hole in the roof.
“That does look like the way out but, how are we supposed to get up there?” Chan asked, since there is no way up onto the subway train to get to the top. “We could boost others up there, I guess? It’s a risk, but it’s the only thing I can think of”, Lee Know said, everyone agreeing with him. It is a risk but it’s the only thing that should work.
You started boosting others onto the subway train, one after the other. It was going smoothly, like nothing bad was going to happen. But oh, you were so wrong. Jisung, Jeongin, Hyunjin and you were the last ones to be boosted up onto the train, and that’s when you started to hear the infected coming closer to you.
“Shit, hurry up”, Jisung said, being the next one to be boosted up. Hyunjin helped him, Jisung grabbing Chan’s hand, pulling him up. Next was Jeongin, grabbing Chan’s hand, almost falling as he stood up on top of the train. You could see infected in the distance, coming closer, their groans haunting you. “You’re next, y/n”, Hyunjin said, not giving you a chance to protest as he lifted you up. You grabbed Chan’s hand, pulling you up.
“Hyunjin, grab my hand”, Chan said, holding his hand for Hyunjin to grab. Hyunjin grabbed his hand, and as soon as Chan started to pull him up, the infected held onto Hyunjin’s ankle, digging its nails into his flesh. He screamed in agony, feeling blood trickle down his ankle. You got your gun out, shooting the infected, it’s hand letting go of Hyunjin’s ankle. You managed to pull him up onto the train, Hyunjin almost collapsing into your arms. Hyunjin leaned on you, all of you leaving the subway.
You waited until you were safe before checking Hyunjin’s ankle. He sat down, rolling his pant leg up, revealing his ankle. “It doesn’t look too bad, thankfully”, you said, wrapping a bandage around the wound. “Hopefully I don’t turn. You don’t want to date a cannibalistic psychopath”, Hyunjin joked, which you didn’t find funny. “Hey, it didn’t bite me. You only get infected if they bite you, or eat you”, he said, which he did have a point. You only turn if an infected person eats you, or just even a bite. You gave him some medicine for it so it doesn’t end up getting infected.
“Are you able to walk?” you asked him, helping him up. He didn’t stumble or fall over so that answers your question. “We should stay here for the night, get some sleep. Luckily this place has lots of food so we’ll be able to eat”, Chan said, putting his bag down. You all made a place to sleep, getting as comfortable as you could. Everyone seemed to fall asleep straight away after eating but you couldn’t seem to fall asleep. Your mind just wouldn’t shut off. You kept thinking about Changbin, Minhyung trying to find you, Hyunjin.
After a while though, you somehow managed to fall asleep. Unfortunately, though, you didn’t end up in dreamland. You ended up having a nightmare, which you haven’t had since you were younger.
“y/n? I’m going to find you”, Minhyung said, his voice full of venom. You were hiding in a bathroom, the door locked. You were holding your breath so as to not make a noise. You had tears streaming down your face, your mascara staining your cheeks. You accidentally sobbed loudly, which Minhyung heard. He stood outside the bathroom door, his breathing erratic.
“I know you’re in there, y/n. Open the door for me, please”, his voice sounded oddly calm, despite his intentions. He knows you’re in there so there’s no point in trying to hide anymore. “Just leave me alone”, you cried, wanting all this to be over. You found a baseball bat in the corner of the bathroom, grabbing it. “If you don’t open this door in 10 seconds, I will break it down”, he said, and you knew he wasn’t just saying it because he will actually break it down.
“10”
You continued to sit there, holding the baseball bat.
“9”
Your breathing got heavier.
“8”
You thought about the times when Minhyung was actually nice, but it was all a facade and you wish you never met him.
“7”
Your hold on the baseball got tighter, gripping the handle.
“6”
You contemplated whether to unlock the door or not.
“5”
You took a deep breath.
“4”
You stood up.
“3”
You walked towards the door slowly, tears still streaming down your face, your vision slightly blurry.
“2”
You made it to the door, holding the lock.
“1”
You unlocked the door, but not opened the door yet.
“Attagirl”.
That’s all he said as he slammed the door open, but he wasn’t expecting you to whack him over the head with the baseball bat. He fell to the ground with a thud, giving you a chance to run out of the house. You ran down the stairs, not bothering to put on any shoes as you opened the front door. You were expecting to see the street in front of your house but you were surrounded by darkness. You walked through the darkness, trying to find the light.
All of a sudden, Changbin’s lifeless body appeared in front of you. But instead of him lying there, he had turned into a cannibalistic psychopath, running towards you. You tried to scream but you couldn’t, no sound coming out of your mouth. You ran in the opposite direction, trying to find something to break you from this nightmare. You kept running for what seemed like ages but when you turned around, Changbin was still there but so were the others. They were all infected, blood coming out of their mouths, their eyes sunken into their sockets. You tried to scream again but still, no sound came out. You moved backwards, and you felt yourself falling. You continued falling for god knows how long, until you felt light. That’s when you realised you were surrounded by water. You tried swimming to the surface but the more you swam, the further away from the surface you were.
“y/n?” you heard a voice calling your name but you couldn’t make out who it was. You felt like you were drowning, your lungs becoming filled with water, and your body started to sink into the dark abyss.
“y/n!” a voice woke you up from your nightmare, sweat covering your entire body. You sat up and saw who woke you up: Hyunjin. So that’s who was calling you. You fell into him, crying into his chest. “Did you have a nightmare? Do you want to talk about it?” Hyunjin asked, to which you shook your head, not wanting to replay the dark torments of your mind. You stayed like that for a few minutes, until you calmed down. When you lifted your head off his chest, you didn’t realise how close you were until Hyunjin’s face was inches away from yours. Hyunjin leaned in, planting a sweet and gentle kiss on your lips, his hand stroking your hip. It was only a short kiss, but you enjoyed it. He planted a kiss on the tip of your nose, making you giggle at the sensation.
The moment was ruined by the sound of Lee Know waking up, his cat senses alerting something. “You good, bro?” Hyunjin asked him. “I think something bad is about to happen”, he said, and right at that moment, the door was kicked down, waking the others up. “What the fuck?” Chan said, immediately waking up. Jisung stood up, wondering what happened. When he came face to face to whoever broke the door down, he put his hands up, as if he was surrendering.
“Don’t move”, the guy said, aiming his gun at Jisung. “Please don’t shoot”, Jisung said, trying his best to be brave when deep down, he was scared shitless. “Where is y/n?” the guy asked, and at the sound of your name, you hid behind a wall. “I have no idea who that is”, Jisung said, trying to be oblivious. “Kid, don’t try and fool me. You know exactly who I’m on about”, the guy said, putting his finger on the trigger.
“Dude, what do you want? Why do you want y/n so badly?” Jisung said, subtly looking behind him to look at the others, hoping you were nowhere in sight. “Minhyung wants them. How should I put this? He wants to… make things up with them”, the guy said, walking closer to Jisung. Jisung walked backwards, which the guy didn’t like. “I said don’t fucking move!” causing Jisung to freeze in his spot.
Lee Know slowly appeared behind the wall, making himself known to the mysterious guy. “Do you know how he treated y/n? You know he tried to kill them, right?” Jisung said, being careful with his words. “Oh really? That’s not what he said. He said it was the other way around”, the guy said, still pointing his gun at Jisung. “That’s bullshit”, you accidentally shouted, realising that you just made yourself known.
“Move out of my way, kid. I only want y/n”, the guy said, but Jisung didn’t move. “I said move!” he shouted, making Jisung flinch. “But you told me not to move”, Jisung said, which is true, he did tell me not to move. The guy was getting agitated, and he was about to pull the trigger, which Lee Know saw. Lee Know lunged for the guy, and he tackled him to the ground. The gun went off, but no one knows where the bullet hit.
The guy grabbed his gun and left, not bothering to get you due to what just happened. That’s when Jisung saw Lee Know on the floor. “Fuck, Lee Know!” he said, running over to him. “I-i’m okay. I think”, Lee Know said, holding his abdomen. “Guys, help”, Jisung called to the others, you running to his side. You pulled Lee Know’s t-shirt up, and you saw that he was shot in the abdomen. Blood was trickling out of the wound, freaking Jisung out.
“Hey, Chan, grab the first aid kit out of my bag please”, you asked, Chan immediately ran over to your bag and grabbed the first aid kit. He handed it to you, opening the kit. “This might hurt so I apologise in advance”, you said, making Lee Know nervous. You tried to stop the bleeding by using a sterile cloth, applying pressure to it. Lee Know winced in pain, squinting his eyes. You managed to stop the bleeding, and you went to use some tools to try and remove the bullet but Lee Know stopped you.
“Don’t try to remove it. That might make it worse. Just leave it in”, he said, making you nervous. “Are you sure? Who knows if it hit any organs”, you said, still applying pressure. “Hey, if anything happens to me, at least I died a hero”, he said, trying to lighten the mood, which was sort of working but at the same time, wasn’t. You left the bullet in, putting a bandage around his abdomen. You helped him up, his abdomen feeling like it was on fire. Despite it hurting like a bitch, he managed to stand up.
“We better keep moving. It looks like the sun is coming up”, Chan said, grabbing his things. You all left, the sun hitting your face as soon as you got outside.
--------------------------------
It’s been a couple of hours since Lee Know was shot, and everything seemed to be going okay. All of you were walking along a river, which was filled with moss and leaves, no ducks or fish to be found. You were too focused on the surroundings in front of you, you didn’t notice Lee Know struggling, until it was too late.
“I don’t feel too good”, Lee Know said, and his body collapsed to the floor. He started coughing up blood, blood was also coming out of his nose, trickling down to his chin. You all rushed to him, trying to wake him up. “Guys, he won’t wake up, what do we do?” Jisung freaked out, his mind going into overdrive. You lifted up his t-shirt, checking his wound. You lifted up the bandage, and saw that his wound had become infected. Pus was oozing out of the wound and even though you’re not a professional, you know that that is not a good sign.
“Shit”, you said, your hands shaking. You’re not a professional so you’re not sure what to do. “We need to do something”, Jisung said, tears welling up in his eyes. He didn’t want to lose his best friend, his soulmate. Chan checked his pulse and his pulse was very weak. “Shit, his pulse is weak”, he said. “Lee Know, wake up. We need you. I-i need you, please”, Jisung was a sobbing mess at this point. “Wake up!” Jisung screamed, the rest of you just sitting there, not knowing what to do.
“He’s gone”, Chan said after checking his pulse again, tears streaming down his face. “No, he can’t be! We need to fucking do something!” Jisung screamed at the top of his lungs, his sobs becoming full on wailing. His whole body was shaking at this point, and he was starting to hyperventilate. “I’m sorry”, you said, guilt filling your whole body. You felt like you didn’t do enough to treat his wound, and you felt like shit because of it. “No, don’t apologise. It’s not your fault y/n, you did everything you could. Besides, you’re not a professional”, Hyunjin said, squeezing your shoulder.
“No, you’re right. You should be sorry”, Jisung said, not thinking about what he’s saying. You looked confused, standing up. “You’re acting like I’m the one who shot him”, you said, trying not to take offence since Jisung isn’t thinking, his mind all over the place. “No, but you’re the one who treated his wound. You shouldn’t have listened to him and took the bullet ou, then maybe he would still be fucking alive”, Jisung shouted, his face looked angry.
“Jisung, stop. You’re not thinking straight”, Hyunjin said, walking towards him. Jisung ended up punching him in the face, knocking him to the ground. That’s when Jisung realised what he just did. “I-i’m so sorry”, he said, the anger turned back into sadness. Hyunjin knew he didn’t mean any of that so he let it go, standing up and going over to hug him, which Jisung accepted.
“W-we should bury him”, Jisung said whilst wiping his eyes. Luckily there was a random shovel close to them (someone else probably buried a loved one or something), digging a hole in the grass, placing Lee Know’s lifeless body in the ground before filling the hole. You created a makeshift grave, with Lee Know’s name on it. You sat by his grave for a while, not saying a word.
“We should go”, Jisung said, standing up and walking off without saying another word. You all followed him, walking in silence, apart from the odd bird sounds.
--------------------------------
It’s been 2 months since the deaths of Changbin and Lee Know, and just over 3 months since the outbreak started. It’s now winter, snow covering the ground and trees, making it look like a winter wonderland. Which it would be, if there weren’t flesh eating monsters walking around.
Ever since that day, something in Jisung changed. He wasn’t chatty like he used to, not even cracking a single joke. His bubbly personality disappeared, turning him into a different person. He became more serious, which sort of scared you in a way. But at the same time, it made it easier for all of you to survive.
You were currently in Busan, walking through an abandoned shopping mall. There was broken glass everywhere, all the shops either shut down or completely ransacked. “Hey, look what I found”, Jeongin said, picking up an old robot, which was covered in dust. “It looks as old as you, Chan”, Seungmin said, trying to lighten the mood. Everyone laughed, even Jisung. You missed his laugh, even if it was only a short one. You looked around the shopping mall, not looking for anything in particular but wanting to see if you could find anything interesting.
Apart from the occasional spoken words between the group, it was deathly quiet. Like, too quiet. It scared you. Despite it being empty, apart from you and the others, you felt like you were being watched. You turned around and as soon as you did, you saw Minhyung. Well, you thought you did. He charged at you screaming, holding a baseball bat. You screamed and crouched into a ball, cowering. When you didn’t feel the sensation of being hit with a baseball bat, you looked up, and saw no one there.
“Hey, y/n, are you okay?!” Hyunjin asked, rushing over to you, seeing you sitting on the floor. “I-i’m good. I think. Fuck, now I think I’m having nightmares while I’m awake”, you said, suddenly feeling exhausted after what just happened. All of a sudden, you felt a panic attack coming on, which is probably the reason why you started to feel exhausted. Your breathing became heavier, your eyes stinging.
“Guys, help”, Hyunjin shouted to the others, needing a hand to help you overcome your panic attack. “We’re a bit occupied at the moment”, Chan shouted, and that’s when Hyunjin saw the others fighting off the infected. Where the fuck did they come from? He didn’t even hear them. You felt like you were drowning, everything around you becoming muffled. The last time you had a panic attack was when you were a teenager, when you were doing your exams. Thinking back at it, doing your exams was nothing compared to the situation you’re currently in.
You couldn’t breathe, gasping for breath. Your heart felt heavy, whilst your entire body felt light, like you were surrounded by water. You couldn’t even concentrate on what Hyunjin was saying, not comprehending what he was saying, it just sounded like gibberish. Whilst Hyunjin was trying, but currently struggling, to calm you down, the others were continuing to fight off the infected. One of the infected has Seungmin trapped against the glass balustrade railing, struggling to push it away from him. He could feel the glass starting to break from the amount of force he is being pushed by the infected, scared for his life. He didn’t want to die like this. He wants to grow old, surrounded by loads of dogs he’s rescued, with the love of his life.
The glass finally hit its breaking point, the glass smashing as Seungmin and the infected started to fall through it, starting to fall from the top floor of the shopping mall. Jeongin saw, his eyes widening. “Seungmin!” he shouted, running towards them. Everything happened in slow motion, Jeongin watching as Seungmin’s body started to fall off the top floor, Jeongin going as quick as he could. Seungmin closed his eyes, not wanting to accept his fate, but he soon felt someone grab his wrist. He opened his eyes and saw Jeongin, who gripped onto his wrist for dear life. The infected grabbed onto Seungmin’s ankle, trying to pull him down but Jeongin was stronger. The infected’s grip loosened on Seungmin’s ankle, plummeting to its death. Jeongin pulled Seungmin up onto the floor, Seungmin clinging onto the younger.
Seungmin isn’t the one to cry in front of others, not wanting to show weakness. But right now, he was too exhausted to care, immediately crying as soon as Jeongin pulled him into his body, hugging him. “I’m so fucking tired”, Seungmin cried, still clinging onto Jeongin.
After god knows how long, Hyunjin managed to calm you down from your panic attack, holding your face in his hands. Your breathing went back to normal, your vision becoming clearer and your hearing no longer muffled. “Is everyone okay?” Chan asked, looking around to check on everyone. He saw Seungmin clinging onto Jeongin, Hyunjin hugging you and Jisung standing over some dead infected. However, he couldn’t see Felix.
“Felix?!” Chan shouted, trying to find him but couldn’t. That’s when he heard a distant voice. “Guys? You might want to come look at this”, it was Felix. Where the fuck did he go? You and the others followed Felix’s voice, finding him next to a shop full of dead bodies. Not infected, just normal people, all dead. It looks like they were all tortured, some of them still tied up. Most of the dead were adults, but there were also some children. Who the fuck would do something like this?!
“We should get out of here”, Chan said, all of you agreeing with him. You all ran out of the shopping mall as quickly as you could, not wanting to be in there a minute longer. You all made it out of there, feeling the snow under your feet again. You could hear the snow crunching under your feet whenever you walked forward, the sound of it satisfying you for some reason. You’ve loved the snow ever since you were a kid, always making snowmen or throwing snowballs at your friends, or just even running around in it, seeing your small footprints in the snow.
You were walking over a hill, about to walk down it when you saw some people in the distance, who you assumed were some of Minhyung’s men. You all crouched down, hiding behind some bushes to hide yourself. “How are we going to get past them?” Felix whispered. “I have an idea but, it’s very risky and stupid”, you said and when you said ‘risky and stupid’, everyone protested, not wanting you to get yourself killed. “They’ll just think I’m surrendering myself, they won’t even suspect anything because they all seem too dumb to notice”, you said, and despite the others hating the idea, it was the best one you could think of.
You stood up and started walking down the hill, holding your hands in the air. Once one of the men saw you, he aimed his gun at you. “Hey, you’ve been trying to find me, right? Well, here I am”, you said, trying not to show fear. “Wow, I can’t believe you actually showed up. Why take you to Minhyung when we can have you all to ourselves?” another guy said, his words making you feel sick.
There were about 5 of them, and they were all starting to walk towards you. You pretended to be innocent, so they didn't suggest anything. You smiled at them, putting your hands on your hips. One of them went to grab you but before they did, you grabbed his arm and twisted it, making him yell out in pain. You kicked his shin, causing him to fall to the ground. One of the other men lunged at you, getting ready to tackle you but you were quicker, punching him square in the face, knocking him straight to the ground. Another man grabbed you from behind, trapping your arms. You headbutted him with the back of your head, causing him to let go of you, giving you the opportunity to turn around and grab your gun, shooting him in the gut. He fell backwards, clutching his abdomen. There were now 2 men left, and you turned around to face them. This was your opportunity to use your martial arts skills. They both launched themselves at you, getting ready to hit you. You dodged both of their attacks, twisting one of the guy's arms and flipped him over, his back landing on the ground. You kicked the other guy in the shin as he was about to grab you from behind, and you did a backflip over him. You grabbed his head and got your knife out of your pocket, slicing his throat, him now bleeding to death. You didn’t want the other three waking up and coming after you so you grabbed your gun and shot them all.
You put your knife and gun back in your pockets, seeing the others running down the hill towards you. “Well, that went better than I expected”, you said, smiling at them, as if you just didn’t kill 5 guys on your own.
“y/n, that was… awesome. Where the fuck did you learn those moves?” Jisung said, never seen you move like that before. “Oh, I did martial arts as a teenager”, you said casually, continuing on walking, stepping over the dead bodies.
The guys didn’t say anything else as they followed you, also stepping over the dead bodies. You ended up walking through the woods, which looked very creepy, especially with snow covering the ground so you couldn’t see if there were traps hidden underneath. You treaded carefully, not wanting to risk anything because who knows what psychopath has hidden underneath it.
“y/n, why do you think someone has hidden traps under the snow? I mean, it’s kinda stupid”, Seungmin said, which is true but at the same time, in the current circumstances, anything can happen. “I don’t know, there’s just something off about this. I can feel it”, you said and as soon as you said that, a rabbit came running past you and got caught in a bear trap, revealing the trap from underneath the snow, its tiny body getting impaled by it.
“Well, shit”, is all Seungmin said. Seungmin treaded more carefully, not wanting to become like that rabbit. He took better care of where he placed his feet, his whole body rushing with anxiety. You managed to get to the other side safely with no hiccups, letting out a breath you didn’t realise you were holding. Hyunjin, Chan and Felix were the next ones to get to the other side, standing by you. Jisung, Jeongin and Seungmin were still struggling, you started to get anxious for them. Jisung was the next one to reach the safe point, accidentally running into Hyunjin, knocking him over.
“Really, bro?” Hyunjin said, pushing Jisung off him. “Hey, I could have died, you know”, Jisung said, glaring at him. As they both stood up, Jeongin was standing there, waiting for Seungmin. “Come one Seungmin, you can do it”, Jeongin said, trying to help him, but it wasn’t working. Seungmin was almost to the end when the unfortunate thing happened. Seungmin put his left foot down, and his ankle was impaled by a bear trap, causing him to scream out in pain.
“Fuck, Seungmin!” you shouted, running to him. “Get it off me!” Seungmin yelled, holding his leg. You tried to pry it open but it wouldn’t work. “It won’t open”, you said, panicking. “What do we do?!”
You walked backwards, your anxiety through the room. You felt helpless at this point, watching as Seungmin continued to scream in pain, blood staining the snow. After god knows how long, Seungmin seemed to have given up. “You guys go, save yourselves”, he said, tears staining his cheeks. “There’s no point in trying to open it. Just go, please”, he said but none of you moved. “I said go!” Seungmin screamed and as soon as he closed his mouth, a bullet went through his forehead, his body falling to the ground.
You screamed, feeling someone grab you from behind. The others were also being grabbed, cloths being put over their mouths, causing them to pass out. You thrashed around against the person but it was no use. You had a cloth put over your mouth too, making you pass out.
--------------------------------
You
When you came to, you looked at your surroundings. You saw you were in a cage, concrete walls either side of you. You sat up, the cold floor giving you chills. You tried to get a look outside the cage but you couldn’t see much, just a big table and… sharp knives on the walls? You were in big trouble.
“Ah, I see you’re awake”, a voice said, making you freeze. It was Minhyung, and he had a scar on his left eye, from when you dug your nails into it. “What the fuck do you want from me?!” you shouted, standing up. “I want to make amends”, is all he said and you scoffed. “Make amends? What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” you said, rolling your eyes.
“Oh, babe, you’ll see soon, don’t worry”, hearing him call you ‘babe’ made you almost throw up in your mouth. That’s when another person walked into the room, holding a piece of meat. “You didn’t leave any evidence, right?” Minhyung asked him, and the guy shook his head, wiping his bloody hand on his pants. Shit, that can’t be good.
“Now, be a good little doll and listen to me. I want you to join me. We can survive this, together. We can be together like old times”, Minhyung said, coming closer to the cage. Like old times?! Who the fuck does he think he is?
“Old times? Like when you tried to kill me?” you shouted, holding the cage door. That’s when you saw the cage door keys hanging on his belt, and that’s when you had an idea. “You know what, that doesn’t seem too bad, you know? It’ll be nice”, you said, putting a fake smile on your face. You put your hand out through a gap in the door, and as soon as Minhyung was about to hold your hand, you grabbed his fingers and broke them, making him yell in pain. You attempted to grab his keys but you couldn’t. Minhyung grabbed your hand, pulling you, causing you to smack into the door hard, and fell to the floor.
“You little shit. You have until sundown to make your decision and if you choose the wrong one, well, then you won’t like what happens after that”, Minhyung said, leaving the room and slamming the door shut.
The guys
When the guys came to, they noticed you were nowhere to be found. They saw Seungmin lying on the ground, blood surrounding his head. Chan screamed out of anger, frustration and sadness. 3 of their friends are now dead and who knows what could happen to you. “We need to find y/n, and quickly”, Hyunjin said, rushing out of the woods, the others following behind him.
It started snowing, and it started snowing really hard. They could hardly see anything through the blizzard, making their search for you even harder. “Can you hear that?” Felix asked, and they stood still. They could hear church bells, and they sounded close. They continued walking through the blizzard, covering their eyes. Hyunjin could see a silhouette of someone, and he turned around, pointing his gun at him. Hyunjin was quicker, firing his gun at him, knocking the guy to the ground.
They ended up fighting a lot of Minhyung’s guys, taking them all out. The blizzard didn’t stop them from progressing further, needing to find you as soon as possible.
The only light source they had was from fire pits, which also warmed them up at the same time. “I really hope we’re getting closer, I’m freezing”, Felix said, shivering. All of a sudden, someone tackled Felix to the ground, hitting him over and over. Chan grabbed the person from behind, throwing him off Felix, and threw him on the ground. Chan hit the guy over and over in the face, before grabbing his knife and stabbed him in the neck, blood spurting out of his throat.
“You ok, Lix?” Chan asked him as he helped him up, Felix was sure his nose was broken and he had a busted lip but he didn’t care about that, he cared about saving you. All he did was nod and continue on walking. They ended up behind a building, seeing a way inside. They walked through the gap, inside from the blizzard. That’s when Hyunjin noticed your bag on a shelf.
“y/n is definitely in here”, is all he said, going through a door.
You
Minhyung came back a few hours later, standing in front of the cage. “Have you made up your mind yet?” he asked, his hands on his hips. “I’ll go with you… to take you to your fucking grave”, you shouted, spitting at him. He didn’t say anything, opening up the cage and grabbed you. Another guy grabbed your other arm, pulling you onto the table. “Don’t fucking touch me”, you screamed, trying to get out of their grip but it was no use.
Minhyung held you down on the table as the other guy grabbed a meat cleaver, getting ready to cut your arm off. “I’m infected!” you panicked, screaming out those 2 words. “You’re lying”, is all Minhyung said, not believing you. “Pull up my sleeve, see if I’m lying”, you didn’t even think about what you’re saying, fear taking over your body.
Minhyung pulled up your sleeve, trying to find a bite on your arm but he didn’t. Without thinking, you grabbed the meat cleaver off the table beside you and hit the guy in the arm, causing his arm to spray blood, him screaming out in pain. You kicked Minhyung, making him fly back. You got off the table and ran out of the room, running into a room which looked like a dining area. You hid behind a table, seeing broken plates all over the floor.
“Where are you, y/n?” you heard his voice, trying to calm your breathing. You talk a step forward, accidentally standing on a broken plate, revealing your hiding place. Minhyung walked further into the room, trying to find you. You carefully walked around the room, hiding behind another table. “I will find out, and I will end you”, Minhyung threatened, hearing him coming closer. You peaked your head above the table, and you saw him standing there. Smoke was filling up the room and the place caught fire, the heat of the fire making you sweat.
You saw the front door, mentally planning your escape without getting caught. When you thought you were safe, you made a beeline for it but unfortunately, Minhyung grabbed you, pulling you to the ground. He went on top of you, hitting you. “When will you learn to never disobey me?!” he shouted, hitting you again. You turned your head, seeing his machete behind you.
He got off you, giving you an opportunity to crawl away. You got on your stomach, crawling towards the machete. You almost got it when Minhyung grabbed you again, turning you over so you were on your back again.
“What, you thought I’d actually let you go? You stupid, stupid whore”, he said, wrapping his hands around your throat. You reached your hand behind you, trying to grab the machete. He tightened his grip around your throat, cutting off your airways. You struggled to breath, gasping for air. You felt faint, on the verge of passing out. You tried reaching for the machete again and this time, you managed to grab it. You picked it up, slashing Minhyung with it. He yelled and you flipped the both of you over, you now on top of him. You stabbed him over and over again, blood splashing you in the face. Even when you knew he was dead, you still continued to stab him, screaming bloody murder.
You felt someone grab you from behind, making you scream out in fear. You were turned around, and that’s when you saw who grabbed you: Hyunjin. “Hey, it’s me”, he said, holding your face in your hands. “H-he tried..”, you tried to say but Hyunjin stopped you. “It’s ok, you’re safe now, baby. I’ve got you”, he said, hugging you as you cried into his chest.
Hyunjin helped you up, leaving the building with the others, giving you your bag. Chan looked at Minhyung, seeing his lifeless body on the floor, the machete still impaling his chest. He decided to grab it, taking it with him. Minhyung didn’t need it anymore anyway.
--------------------------------
A couple months have passed since that day and you’re still traumatised. It’s now spring, the warmer air hitting your skin. You haven’t spoken about that day since it happened and the guys won’t ask you, letting you talk about it until you’re ready. You were walking slower than the guys, walking a bit further behind, lost in your own thoughts. You didn’t realise Hyunjin was talking to you until you walked into him, your face hitting his back.
“Huh, what? Oh yeah, sure”, you said, not even knowing what he said. “Are you okay? I mean, that’s a stupid question but, you know what I mean”, Hyunjin said, realising that the question he asked was, indeed, stupid because neither one of you are okay, especially with what has happened the past 6 months.
“What did you say?” you asked, dodging his question. “I’m going to be honest, I completely forgot what I said”, causing you to roll your eyes, laughing slightly. “Hey guys, the road is blocked so we can’t go this way”, Chan said, and he was right. The road was blocked with abandoned cars, as well the road being destroyed, cars fallen into a makeshift pot hole. “Is there any other way we can go?” Felix asked.
“I mean, we can just go left and go around”, Jeongin said, pointing left and seeing a path which cuts straight through underneath the road, into a tunnel underground. You went inside the tunnel, turning on your flashlights, since the tunnel was dark. “Fuck, it stinks in here”, Jisung said, holding his nose. “Well, we are underground so, you should expect it to smell like shit”, Jeongin said, thinking Jisung was on about the sewage smell. “No, not that. I mean, it smells like rotting meat”, Jisung said, gagging.
As they progressed further into the tunnel, they found the source of where the smell was coming from. “Fucking hell, that’s disgusting”, Hyunjin said, feeling like he was going to throw up. Jeongin, however, did end up throwing up, hunched over in a corner as he puked his guts up. “You good, bro?” Jisung asked Jeongin, going over to him and rubbing his back.
“What the fuck is that?” Jeongin asked as soon as he felt better, wiping his mouth with his sleeve. “I think that’s what happens to someone when they progress further into the infection. They just… turn into that”, Chan said, not knowing how to describe it. The infected became one with the wall, fungi growing out of it, their features now unrecognisable. You all walked past it, wandering further into the tunnel.
“I really hope more of those things aren’t down here”, you said, not wanting to come into contact with them. They look more terrifying and disgusting than the regular infected you’ve seen. As soon as you said that, you heard a deep roar, coming from further deep in the tunnel. “Ok, what the fuck was that? That did not sound friendly”, Jisung said, and his question was soon answered as a huge monster looking thing came charging through the tunnel.
“What the fuck?!” you shouted, firing your gun at it. The gun did nothing to it, however, as it ricocheted off of it. “How the fuck are we supposed to kill this thing?!”
“I’ve seen in movies that fire works”, Jisung said, but unfortunately you didn’t have fire. “Jisung, this isn’t a fucking movie, this is real life. Besides, where the heck are we supposed to find fire is this godforsaken tunnel?” Hyunjin said, still firing his gun at the monster. The monster continued to charge towards you, and you jumped out of the way. Unfortunately, Jisung wasn’t as lucky as you and the others, the monster throwing Jisung against the wall, his head smashing against the wall.
“Jisung!” Chan shouted, running towards Jisung but the monster blocked him. The monster was completely covered head to toe in fungi, and it was twice the size of you. It was huge, and it smelled disgusting, like raw meat that’s gone bad. That’s when you remembered that you had a molotov in your bag, which you learned how to make a month back. You took it out of your bag, lighting the rag on fire.
“Hey, you smelly little fucker”, you shouted, causing the monster to turn around. It roared at you and that’s when you threw the molotov at it, the monster catching fire. You then fired your gun, and it worked. The monster screeched as if it was in pain, and after a few more shots of your gun, the monster was dead, its body falling to the ground with a thud.
You ran over to Jisung, seeing him unconscious on the floor. “Will he be okay?” you asked, looking at Chan. Chan checked Jisung’s head, seeing blood gushing out of his head. You grabbed your first aid kit from your bag, handing it to Chan. Chan managed to patch Jisung’s head, the blood stopping. “Thankfully his injury isn’t life threatening. He’ll be okay, though I think he’ll have a concussion”, Chan said, giving you your first aid kit back, putting it in your bag.
“How are we going to wake him up?” Felix asked, poking Jisung on the cheek. “Well, I don’t think poking him will wake him”, Felix said, pouting. You thought of an idea but you don’t think the others will like the idea. You gave Hyunjin a look and Hyunjin just shook his head. “No, nu uh. I’m not kissing him”, Hyunjin said, standing back. “Wow, you’re acting as if you’re in love with him. Plus, I wasn’t thinking of kissing him. Unless…”, you said, pretending to think.
Hyunjin just shoved your shoulder, but not too hard. “I was thinking of hitting him, it’s the only thing I can think of”, you said. You don’t want to hit your friend but at the same time, it’s the only way you can wake him up. “I volunteer”, Felix said, raising his hand but the look you gave him made him put his hand down. “Who’s the strongest out of the 4 of us?” you asked, excluding Felix because you know him well enough that if he ends up hitting Jisung, he’ll accidentally hurt himself, and you don’t want that to happen.
Whilst the guys were discussing why they think they were the strongest, you decided to hit Jisung instead, not letting the guys have the chance to do it. As soon as you hit Jisung, he woke up almost immediately. “What did I miss?” is the first thing he said when he woke up, seeing himself lying on the floor. “And why does my head hurt? And why does Chan have 2 heads?”, Jisung said. “Yep, definitely a concussion”, Chan said, ignoring Jisung’s comment of him having 2 heads, and helped him up.
“Let’s get out of here”, you said, Jisung leaning on Chan for support, so he doesn’t fall over. You progressed further through the tunnel, and you managed to get to a part of it that was light and higher up, part of the ceiling caved in. Due to part of the ceiling being caved in, there was a bus lying on its side, having fallen through the ground, ending up underground. There was also water flooding the tunnel. You had to climb onto the side wall to get to the bus, side shuffling along the wall so as to not fall. The others managed to jump onto the top of the bus, Jisung having the help from Chan, guiding him. They all went inside the bus through an open window, and they felt safe inside it.
It was your turn to jump onto the bus, grabbing the door and climbing on top of the bus, climbing in through the same window the others climbed through. You started walking carefully through the bus but after every single move you did, the bus started creaking, freaking you out.
“We better get out of here quickly”, you said, not wanting to get trapped inside it. You managed to get to the other side of the bus, about to get out of there but unfortunately, something must have collapsed because the bus suddenly became submerged in water, all of you now being surrounded by it. You tried to swim to the other side of the bus, wanting to find an exit but there was none. Chan signalled to you that he was going to break a window, doing it with no problem, swimming through the now broken window.
You all escaped through the broken window, swimming to the surface. You all swam to the top, gasping for air. “Where the hell are we?” Jisung asked, not knowing where you ended up. Unfortunately, you ended up in part of a river where there was a high current, being sucked down the stream. All of you were panicking again, not knowing what to do.
Hyunjin saw you heading towards a rock, and he managed to grab you, swapping your positions so that he was heading for the rock. He ended up smashing into the rock, knocking him out. The others were lucky as they were pulled straight towards dry land, crawling out of the water and onto the grass. Chan had to help you pull Hyunjin out of the water, lying his unconscious body on the ground.
“Hyunjin? Hyunjin, please, wake up”, you cried, trying to wake him up but nothing was working. As soon as you stood up and turned around, you felt yourself being tasered, your body seizing up, falling to the ground. Since you were tasered, you didn’t see the others fighting the people who caught you, causing them to also be tasered.
--------------------------------
When you woke up, it looked like you were in a hospital room. White painted the walls, some of the paint being chipped off the walls, medical tools lying on a table on the other side of the room. “Ah, I see you’re awake”, an unfamiliar voice said, a tall woman walking into the room. “Who the hell are you?” you asked, now sitting up on the bed. “Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Lea, and I’m part of a group called ‘Mayflower’. We’re trying to find a cure to this disease”, she said, leaning against the wall.
“Where are my friends?” you asked, wanting to know what she has done to them. “Don’t worry, your friends are fine. And your friend with the concussion is resting at the moment after giving him some medicine”, Lea said, and you weren’t convinced. “Take me to them”, you said, getting up off the bed. As soon as you stood up, you were pushed back down again by a man in uniform.
“I’m sorry but, I can’t do that”, Lea said, holding a syringe. The guy held you down on the bed, you shouting profanities at him. “This will be over a lot sooner if you just stop struggling”, Lea said, moving the syringe closer to your neck. Before Lea could stick the syringe in your neck, you headbutted her, making her fall backwards. You grabbed the syringe off her, stabbing the guy in the leg, causing him to scream in pain. The guy ended up passing out a couple seconds later, his body hitting the floor.
“You fucker. Since you won’t cooperate, I don’t need you anymore. Guards, take them out of the building”, Lea said, and 2 guards barged into the room, grabbing you. You didn’t even protest, too tired to care. The guards dragged you down a corridor and once you were out of sight of anyone, you attacked them, hitting them over the head with their gun. You took their machine gun, holding on to it for dear life.
You sneaked around the hospital, trying to find the others. You walked into a room, and saw Jeongin lying on the bed, still unconscious. You walked over to him, shaking him. Luckily he woke up straight away, but as soon as he opened his eyes, he freaked out. “Hey, it’s okay, it’s me”, you whispered, leading him out of the room, closing the door quietly behind you.
“We need to find the others but in order to do that, we need to be quiet”, you whispered, explaining the plan to Jeongin. He nodded, going in the opposite direction as you. The plan was, you were going to check on Jisung whilst Jeongin went to go get Chan, Felix and Hyunjin. You were able to find Jisung with no problem, seeing him resting on the hospital bed. He woke up on his own accord as he heard the door open, and when he saw you, he sighed in relief. “I’m so glad to see you, y/n. I thought they were going to kill us”, Jisung said, getting up off the bed. He definitely seemed more with it now a couple of hours ago, his concussion gone.
“Come on, lets go”, and you both left the room, going to find the others. You turned the corner and you saw 2 guards down the corridor, and you and Jisung hid behind the wall, breathing heavily. “How are we going to get past them?” Jisung asked, but luckily, you didn’t need to get past them because you suddenly heard the 2 guards bodies drop to the ground. You peaked round the corner, and you saw Jisung, Chan and Felix.
“Jeongin, where’s Hyunjin?” you asked, not seeing him with them. You started to panic, awful situations going round your head. You couldn’t think straight, worry and fear overtaking your body as you took off, running down the corridor. “y/n, wait!” Chan whisper-screamed, but you didn’t listen. Your body was filled with fear, worry, but also anger at the same time. A couple of guards came around the corner, walking towards you.
“Hey, stop there!” they shouted at you but you didn’t listen, firing the machine gut at them without hesitation, killing them at point blank. Any guards you saw that charged at you, you killed them all without hesitation, seeing nothing but red. You need Hyunjin back, and you will do that, no matter what it takes.
You ended up on the other side of the operation room, and that’s where you saw Hyunjin: he was lying on the operating table, wires coming out of his arms. You slammed the door open, barging in. All three surgeons who were in the room all stopped what they were doing, looking at you.
“Unhook him, now”, you said, your voice sounding threatening. You pointed the gun at the main surgeon, who had his arms up. “Don’t shoot, please”, he begged, walking backwards. “If you do what I say, then I won’t shoot you”, you said, hoping they would listen to you. Neither one of them moved, not wanting to unhook Hyunjin.
“I said fucking unhook him!” you shouted, walking closer to them. The main surgeon grabbed a scalpel, going to use it as a weapon. He didn’t think as he charged at you, but you fired the machine gun at him, firing multiple bullets into him. He slammed back into the wall, his body sliding down it, blood staining the blue walls. You didn’t even think as you shot the other 2 surgeons, not wanting them to report back to Lea. you put the machine gun down, going straight towards Hyunjin. You unhooked the wires from his arms, holding him in your arms.
Hyunjin looked peaceful, his features soft on his face. When you saw his chest rising up and down, you felt some sort of relief since you know that he’s still alive. The guys walked into the room, seeing Hyunjin lying on the operating table, and they thought their worst fears had come.
“Is he…”, Jeongin was about to ask, but before he finished his sentence, you interrupted him. “He’s still alive, just sedated”, you said, trying to find something to wake him up with. You saw some smelling salts on the table, grabbing them. You put the smelling salts near his face, and he woke up a few seconds later. “Where am I?” he asked, looking around the room. “Lets not worry about that now, let’s just get out of here”, Chan said, leaving the room.
Hyunjin leaned on you as you all tried to find the way out of the hospital, walking down some stairs. You managed to make it to the lower ground floor, walking through a door and ended up in the hospital car park. You picked the first car you found, getting in the car. Luckily the keys were already in the ignition, making your escape easier.
Unfortunately, you weren’t going to be able to leave that easily as the car park doors still need to be opened. “I’ll go and try to open them”, Chan offered, getting out of the car, walking towards the door. As soon as Chan got to the door, Lea came barging out of the door to the car park, holding a gun.
“Chan, get down”, Jisung shouted to him, but it was too late. Lea fired her gun, the bullet flying through the air, and it hit Chan straight in the back of the head, his body falling to the ground almost immediately. You all screamed, seeing Chan now dead on the floor. You went to Lea and stood face to face with her, whilst the others ran towards the car park door.
“You fucking bitch. You seriously don’t know when to stop, do you?” you said, holding your right hand behind your back, hiding your gun. “If only one of you would actually cooperate with me. But no, you didn’t. All we were trying to do was find a cure but you all destroyed that chance. Now there is going to be no cure because of your fucking selfishness”, Lea shouted, pointing her gun at you.
“Oh, but there is a cure for this disease”, you said, confusing Lea. The next few seconds went by like a flash, you pulled your gun from behind your back and fired your gun, the bullet hitting Lea in the middle of her forehead. She dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes, her gun dropping from her hand.
You ran towards the others, seeing Chan’s lifeless body lying on the ground. “How many more friends do we have to fucking lose before we’re out of this fucking mess?” Jisung yelled, hitting the car park door. That’s when Jisung noticed the buttons to open the door, pressing the big green button, the door now opening.
“Hyunjin, can you drive?” Jisung asked him, Hyunjin nodding his head, sniffling as tears rolled down his cheeks. You all got into the car, Hyunjin turning the key in the ignition. He slammed his foot on the pedal, driving through the open door, driving as fast as he could, driving away from the hospital.
It had started raining lightly about an hour ago, and now the rain is really heavy, making it difficult for Hyunjin to see where he was going. “I can’t fucking see”, Hyunjin said, gripping the steering wheel, his fingers going white. He suddenly slammed on the brakes, the car coming to an abrupt stop. He got out of the car, slamming the door shut. You, Jeongin, Jisung and Felix stayed in the car while Hyunjin walked in front of the car, and started screaming, watching as he got soaked by the rain.
That’s when you all decided to get out of the car, not caring that you were getting soaked by the ferocious downpour. After a while, Hyunjin calmed down, breathing in and out, something he always does to calm himself down. Neither of you said anything, just listened to the sound of the rain, seeing it bounce off the ground.
The silence was soon interrupted by the sound of a plane, causing you to look up. You saw what looked like a military cargo plane flying through the sky, and that’s when you thought of something. “Wait, that plane in the sky means that we’ll be able to leave. If we get to the airport, we have a chance of getting on the next plane”, you said, feeling a slight chance of hope. “Yeah but who knows what could happen once we get on that plane”, Jisung said, trying to think realistically but at the same time, he really needed to leave the outbreak and start a fresh start in a new country.
You all got back in the car and Hyunjin turned the car around, racing towards the airport, going as fast as he could through the rain.
You got to the airport in the nick of time, seeing another military cargo plane filling up with other people. You got out of the car, all of you rushing towards it. You tried to get on the plane but you were stopped. “Sorry but, you all can’t get on this plane. Only 3 of you can, the other 2 will have to stay here”, the soldier said, pushing you back. “Hey, you can’t do that. We need to get out of here”, Jisung said, getting in the soldiers personal space.
“If you don’t step back, kid, I will shoot you”, the soldier said, pointing the gun against Jisung’s stomach. “What, in front of all these people? That won’t be good, will it?” Jisung said, not budging.
“Hey, let them all on, and that’s an order”, a familiar voice said, the soldier removing his gun and stepping to the side. That’s when you saw Jackson standing inside the plane, wearing a uniform. All of you walked inside the plane, sitting down. If it hadn’t been for Jackson, who knows what could have happened.
The door of the plane closed and for once in 6 months, you finally felt safe. You were finally leaving, but you wish the others were still here. The moment felt bittersweet, a few stray tears still rolling down your cheek. You rested your head on Hyunjin’s shoulder, closing your eyes, falling into a deep sleep, one that wasn’t full of nightmares.

chapter twelve: what do you want?
words: 1.67k // warnings: graphic character death, cursing, blood
OFFICIAL GHOSTFACE KILL COUNT: 009
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it only took jisung a split second to grab (y/n)’s hand and start dragging her across the house running, so fast that they had no time to register if changbin and hyunjin had done the same. luckily, changbin’s house was large enough that - as long as they all went at least two separate ways - they should be able to lose the intruder in the maze of corridors and doorways.
there was no hesitation in either of their limbs as they began slamming all the doors open and closed that they could, praying a distraction would give them their few crucial minutes to get out of the house and away. (y/n)’s heart sunk when they got separated, only praying jisung would run towards the nearest exit instead of up the stairs, like the protagonists in movies usually do.
the back door was right in her sight, so close she could almost taste it. the proximity made her slow down unconsciously, but the second she saw a whip of black in her peripheral vision, she forced her limbs to move as fast as they would carry her - out of the door and towards the trees lining the woods next to changbin’s house.
she knew if she just pushed herself a little bit further, her limbs carried her a little further forward, she’d find the den. the den, in fact, wasn’t a den at all. it was changbin’s childhood hideout - a glorified shed that changed decor as he grew and his personality changed with age. it used to be full of comics and hotwheels cars, then video games and alcohol he’d snuck from his parents liquor cabinet, to what it was now. music equipment, a sofa that pulled out into a bed in case he couldn’t pull himself away from his work.
deep down, she knew it was cowardly. she was running - not even waiting for her remaining friends. but was it a bad thing to be selfish? this was literally a life or death situation, and no one could blame her for prioritizing her own safety. the second her legs crossed the threshold, she bolted the door closed, pulling all the curtains across and keeping the den as dark and quiet as she possibly could.
her phone, which she was surprised hadn’t fallen out of her pocket, was nearly dead. only 3% - there was no way she could call for help or check on the boys without her phone dying on her. she figured if she waited in the den until sunset, the killer might have given up. they might - just maybe - think she’d run away far enough and either gone looking for her away from the house, or run away in fear that the police had been alerted. she had no idea where hyunjin, changbin or jisung were, and the anxiety she felt was almost sickening.
when the skies began to darken, and the sun started to set, (y/n) lifted herself up from the ball she’d tucked herself into and forced herself to venture towards the exit of the den. the world was quiet - too quiet - and she knew that things could all go south very quickly and she could be claimed as the killer’s newest victim if she wasn’t careful.
all the lights in changbin’s home seemed to be off as she approached, and based on the lack of reaction when the back door squeaked open she assumed she was alone. she wasn’t sure whether she really did want to be alone or not though - while on one hand being alone meant she was safe, not having anyone by her side to comfort her was making her anxiety spike to new extremes.
while she was locking all the doors and windows, she found changbin’s father's gun hidden in a desk drawers in the entryway hall. while she had never actually shot a real gun - only paintball guns or bb guns - she quickly realized it would be smart to keep it on her person, just in case. holding it close to her chest, she peeked out the front window and noticed changbin’s car was nowhere in sight, assuming he had managed to get away before the intruder attacked. she just hoped he had taken hyunjin with him, and found jisung somewhere along the way.
she was fast to plug her phone into the first charger she saw, knowing not that she was alone she’d need her phone available to call the authorities at the first opportunity. the house was deadly silent, and she couldn’t bring herself to think about eating as she poured herself a glass of water from the kitchen. she was restless, worried about her friends, mapping out changbin’s house in her head to figure out the best escape plan when she needed one.
it was only when she heard a thud near the front door that she was shaken out of her trance, gun grasped firmly in her hand as she headed towards the noise to investigate. her phone had turned on now, flashing with notifications signaling how many calls and messages she had missed while holed up in the den all day.
there was another thud by the door, and she jumped at the noise. a gasp escaped her throat as she peered out the peephole and saw hyunjin on the other side - and honestly, she looked a mess. bruises and cuts spread across his gorgeous skin, like he’d fallen in the woods or been dragged through a bush. there was drying blood on his cheeks, and he kept looking over his shoulder and muttering as if he was worried about being followed.
“fuck! fuck, why is this fucking door locked… shit. shit, where does he keep his spare key?” he cried, wiggling the handle with suck force that (y/n) jumped away from the door in shock. taking a deep breath in, she reached for the lock and turned it, in her fear, debating whether to let him in or not.
before she opened the door, she cleared her throat and called out.
“hyunjin? hyun, is that you?”
the boy suddenly went silent the other side of the door, before letting out what sounded like a relieved laugh.
“oh my god, (y/n)! thank fuck, i was so worried about you!” she could hear the smile in his voice as he spoke back to her through the door. “open up, i’m not sure how far off i lost the killer. i– i can’t lose you too, and i don’t want you to watch me die.”
despite all her instincts, there was something in (y/n)’s gut that told her not to open the door - probably the fear of her friends, especially when no one except them knew they were headed to changbin’s house a few days prior.
“did he follow you? please, hyun, i can’t risk letting him in, too…” she asked carefully, not wanting hyunjin to get defensive if he thought she was accusing him.
a pound of the door rung out, causing (y/n) to jump in fright again.
“god, (y/n), i swear, please let me in! please, i don’t want to die, i don’t–” hyunjin’s words were cut off by another thud against the door, followed by a guttural moan and a choked out call of her name.
without another thought, she swung the door open and gasped in horror. hyunjin was being dragged away from the door by his legs, hands grabbing into anything within reach that might give him a hope. there was a pool of blood on his forehead, beginning to drip, matching a splat of blood on the front door.
a choked sob left (y/n)’s throat, but her legs felt like they were glued to the floor with the way she couldn’t force herself to move and chase after hyunjin. he looked up at her with such despair and worry in his eyes, that she couldn’t stop the tears from falling from her eyes.
“no!” she cried as the masked killer pulled hyunjin up onto his knees by his hair, her eyes zeroing in on the knife in the masked figure's hand. “no, please! please, kill me! kill me instead, please, not him!”
the figure tiled its head as it stared at her, and she could feel the way whoever was under the mask smirked at her crisis. im fact, he didn’t look away from her once as he pulled hyunjin’s head back, his throat on display and raised the knife.
in one swift movement, the figure slid the knife across hyunjin’s throat, and (y/n) watched in horror as blood began pouring down the font of his white shirt. bile rose in her throat as the figure threw hyunjin’s torso back towards the ground, the boy hitting the gravel with a thud that made her stomach turn.
she didn’t even allow the figure the chance to move towards her, suddenly remembering the gun in her hand and shooting at the figure with no aim and no qualms in killing a man to save her own life. unfortunately, given her overwhelming emotions and lack of experience with guns, she didn;t cause enough damage to stop the rampage of killings, but was close enough to watch the figure fall to the ground clutching their shoulder in pain.
she sprinted towards the garage next to the house, knowing changbin’s had a motorbike in there, which always had its keys kept on the seat. she’d ridden his bike before, and knew as long as she was fast enough she could get to the police station without the figure intervening.
wiping her tears away, she couldn’t even bring herself to look at hyunjin’s body as she rode past, an overwhelming guilt settling within her as she forced herself to get the bike to a speed that was most definitely illegal. the police would help, she knew it. she could get there in 10 minutes if she was lucky.
she just prayed no one else would die before she did.

In a quiet corner of the world, nestled amidst a lush forest, there stood an old, weather-beaten house. Its timeworn facade exuded an eerie charm that only that of an abandoned place could possess. It had been uninhabited for years, with rumors of supernatural occurrences whispered amongst the people, talk of a young man that had disappeared a few years prior. But one fateful day, you decided to make it your home. The house, with its creaky wooden floors and ancient charm, seemed like the perfect place for you to begin a new chapter in your life.
You had always been drawn to unconventional choices, and this house, with its dark and complex history, intrigued you. It was the ideal refuge for a writer, seeking solitude and inspiration from the cryptic household. You packed your bags, said your goodbyes to your old place, and moved into the mysterious abode, ready to confront whatever secrets it held.
The first few weeks in your new home were uneventful, save for the occasional creaking floorboard, blown fuse, or rattling window. You had always been a pragmatic person, dismissing the unsettling sounds as the byproduct of an old house settling into its solitude. You even joked about possibly having a new houseguest.
"Maybe I should start charging rent for my ghostly roommate," You'd chuckle as a stray object fell to the floor for no apparent reason.
Little did you know that your casual jests were not as far from the truth as you had believed.
One crisp autumn night, as you sit at your desk, the air suddenly grew icy. Goosebumps erupt on your arms, and you feel an inexplicable sense of unease. Out of the corner of your eye, you see a small porcelain vase teetering on the edge of the shelf. Before you can react, it topples over and crashes onto the hardwood floor, shattering into a million little pieces.
Startled, you jump up, your heart racing, and stare at the wreckage. You know there was no logical explanation for this incident.
"Okay, that's enough!" you exclaim, half-irritated and half-frightened, "If you want attention, you've got it."
Silence follows, but you can't shake the feeling that you are not alone in your house. You turn off the lights, crawl under your blankets, and try to convince yourself that it was just a coincidence.
The following days brought more unexplained occurrences. Books flew off the shelves, curtains swayed without a breeze, and eerie whispers filled the air. Your initial annoyance evolved into a fascination, and you couldn't help but feel a strange connection with whatever entity shared your home. Nothing ever harmed you, nor was it ever even close to causing you more anguish than just the trouble of cleaning up the messes.
One night, as you sit in the dimly lit living room, reading a book by the fireplace, you whisper into the shadows, "Alright, if you're here, give me a sign."
The room seems to hold its breath for a moment before a soft knocking echoed through the walls. You chuckle, your fear subsiding, "That's more like it. You really know how to make an entrance."
But your light-hearted banter was about to take a serious turn.
As the weeks passed, the disturbances grew bolder. You would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night to find your furniture rearranged or your possessions scattered across the room. You couldn't ignore the fact that these events were beyond the realm of natural explanation.
One evening, as you sit in your kitchen, the power in your home goes out. A long sigh leaves your lips as you light the few candles you had gathered.
Once settled into a dining room chair, a sudden gust of wind extinguishes all of the candles. You feel a presence behind you, a gentle, almost comforting energy. Slowly, you turn around and gasp.
There, standing before you, is a faint, ethereal figure of a young man, freckles littered across his cheeks. He looks about your age, with shaggy brown hair and curious, chocolate eyes. You can't help but feel a strange sense of nostalgia, as if you've known him your entire life.
"Hi," You whisper, your voice quivering.
The ghostly boy smiled warmly and nodded.
You swallowed hard, your heart pounding. "You're real? You're not just some figment of my imagination?"
The boy gestured to himself and the room, as if to say, "Do I look imaginary to you?"
You let out a nervous laugh, realizing you were talking to a ghost, "Okay, this is not what I expected when I moved in here. What’s your name?"
He nods again, seeming to understand your confusion. He points to his throat, then shakes his head sadly.
"You can't talk?" you asked, your heart aching for the lost voice.
The freckled boy raises a hand, indicating to the pen and paper on the kitchen table that you had been using to write your drafts prior to the power going out. You grab them and hand them to him. With shaky hands, he writes, "Felix.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Felix. I’m y/n. Why can’t you speak?” You look at him expectantly with a sad smile.
He begins writing again, “I’m cursed."
Your eyes widened as you read the words, "Cursed? How?"
Felix wrote out his story in painstaking detail. He explained how he had once lived in this very house, how he had been a curious and adventurous young man. But one day, he had stumbled upon an old, dusty book hidden in the attic—the Book of Shadows. Ignoring the warnings scrawled on its pages, he had tried to perform a forbidden spell. A stupid thing, he admitted.
The spell had gone awry, and Felix had been consumed by a powerful curse. He was trapped in a state between life and death, unable to speak, touch, or feel the warmth of the living until the curse was broken. His only solace in his five years of torture was the occasional glimpse into the world of the living, and that's when you moved in.
Tears well up in your eyes as you read Felix's tragic tale. You could see the regret and sorrow in his eyes, even if he couldn't express them in words. You reach out your hand to touch his, to instinctively comfort him in some way, but your fingers pass right through his form.
Determination ignited in your heart, "We'll find a way to break the curse, Felix. I promise."
Felix's eyes sparkled with gratitude and hope.
From that day on, you and Felix became inseparable, despite the physical barrier that separated you. You spent hours researching spells, curses, and anything related to the occult. For weeks, the two of you combed through dusty old books, scoured the internet, and consulted experts in the paranormal.
You found yourself looking forward to your conversations with Felix, cherishing the moments you spent together. You couldn't help but admire his kindness, humor, and the way he had a knack for making you smile even in the darkest of times.
As you delved deeper into your quest, your fascination with Felix grew into something more profound. You admired his resilience and kindness, despite his tragic fate, brought on by being too curious. You found yourself talking to him about your hopes, dreams, and fears, as if he were your most trusted confidant.
And Felix, in turn, was captivated by your spirit and determination. He had watched you from the shadows for so long, afraid to scare you with his presence, but now, he could truly know you. He longed to touch you, to hold your hand, to feel the warmth of your embrace. But the curse remained an insurmountable barrier.
One evening, as you pore over a particularly ancient text, your voice quivers with frustration, "I can't figure it out, Felix. How do we break this curse? There must be something we're missing."
Your love for each other, deep and true, seemed doomed by the curse that bound Felix to the house. But as you sit together in the dimly lit living room, upset by the lack of answers, your hands brush against one other, sending a spark of energy through both of you. Astonished, you reach out again, and this time, your fingers meet warm skin.
In that moment, the power of your love shattered the curse. It wasn't just about finding a solution to the problem; it was about the love that had grown between you.
Felix's form solidified, his translucent figure taking on a warm, human touch. Tears of joy streamed down your face as you hugged him tightly.
Your bond had deepened into something beautiful and profound. It was a love that transcended the physical, a connection that went beyond the tangible. Your love remained unwavering, a beacon of hope in the darkest of times as you attempted to figure out just how you could free Felix, but it seems it was this love that held the key to breaking the curse that had imprisoned Felix for so long.
In that moment, the world around you seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of you, bound by a love that had conquered the darkest of curses. He pulls you close as you hold onto each other, savoring the feeling of your hearts beating as one. And as you embraced, you knew that you had found something truly magical—a love that defied all odds, a love that would last for all eternity.
You were no longer separated by the veil of the supernatural world. Now, you were free to be together, in love, in your charming old house that was no longer haunted. Your love had triumphed over the curse that had held Felix captive for so long, proving that love truly knows no boundaries, not even those between the living and the "dead".

It was the way he fit into your life.
The way both of your sets of keys would lie next to one another in the bowl by the front door. The way he knew just what to order to have waiting for you at the table when you got into the restaurant. Whether it was a drink or an appetizer, maybe even the full meal—but it satisfied you. The way he could finish your sentence, even help give you that word on the tip of your tongue when you began to stutter.
Seungmin had seeped into the cracks of your life and sealed them, therefore making you whole. And although he was just one person in the world of eight billion, he accommodated you in all the ways you wished for.
What was once a short-term relationship soon became a marriage going on for multiple years by the time you blinked. Some said you married him for the money, others for the way he said you tasted—but most had no idea how truly fulfilling he was.
Seungmin was your lifeline.
Being married to him was just a plus. Sleeping beside him in the same bed night after night made you feel like you were on cloud nine. That kiss on your cheek that he pressed softly, so swiftly, on his way out the door to go to work in the mornings—it was like whipped cream on top of an already sweet dessert.
And the way he called your name—you could replay the sound in your own mind for hours until he spoke it again in a new tone and made you feel relieved.
It wasn't just in a sexual setting that it made the pit of your stomach nearly roll on itself, but the way he spoke it in everyday life. Calling your name when he couldn't find you in the house, only for his tone to soften when he did. Speaking your name when asking what you'd like to do that day, what to eat, or just what was on your mind. Even pet names couldn't suffice the eagerness in your stomach when Seungmin claimed your name on his tongue.
Was marrying the top doctor in the city a complete definition of the word luxury, or was it calling him yours?
It was his preciseness that drew you to him. No matter how many times you messed up, even the smallest mistakes, his structured and focused hands were there to pick up the pieces and glue them back together.
Seungmin had become someone you could fall apart in front of. And all he would do was hold you, cradle you to him and run his fingers through your hair while whispering gentle words of comfort to you.
Perhaps that was why, in turn, he had begun to fall apart in front of you.
You had established long ago, before you even said the words "I do", that his work was important. The work of a doctor is never done. The nights run long, days run longer, and no matter how many times you find his tired frame sprawled out on your bed in a deep sleep while still wearing his clothes—you understood just how much his work meant to him.
The same work that would leave the scent of metal forever on his fingertips from the use of the tools. The clean smell of latex, of the soap he scrubbed to his elbows before each surgery, and the lightest scent of his musk growing fainter each day.
When you first met Seungmin, the man was so well put together. He spoke full sentences no matter how little he had to say, watched you with his hungry eyes, and beamed his million dollar smile.
But as those dark circles under his eyes settled in for good, you found that the stamp along each of his certificates weren't official—nor was he.
Kim Seungmin wasn't a top doctor in the city you lived in. He wasn't even an official doctor at all. The hospital he worked at didn't even know his name. The man that smiled at you hundreds of times had been lying about your entire life, the one he threaded together so perfectly until you only spoke his words and were attentive to only him.
The first mistake he had ever made was leaving the wrong set of keys in the bowl by the front door. Ones with only two keys: an extra to his car, and an unfamiliar house key.
The second mistake he made was admitting he had already eaten one morning when he returned home from work. Claiming that he was full, had already grabbed a bite so he could come home and rest—even though he knew you always made breakfast.
What would normally appear as a man having an affair was accumulating into something larger. A letter sent to your home with no return address, opened by your own fingers and read by your own eyes. A custom-made label stamped at the bottom of the letter, and signed by a familiar signature—one of the man you love.
Seungmin's final mistake was mixing business with his love-life. Of using your innocence, your trust against you.
"Something told me—" You turned around at his voice, finding those same eyes you fell for turning colder and colder by the second. "—you had found out the truth."
The letter was blank. Only paired with a small, thick piece of paper with your name labeled on it along with today's date. The same label you place on food to show when it was made, to assure you eat it before it expires.
"I guess I should tell you about my work." Seungmin spoke in a monotone voice, like it could be carried to your ears by the air in the room with ease and still not give you a single reaction. "Then maybe you'll understand. Then maybe—"
Kim Seungmin, the liar you once loved. Now the killer.
"You'll know just where you're going."

Maze of Memories | CHRISTMAS EVEL - STRAY KIDS ADVENT CALENDAR
PAIRING Changbin x fem!reader
GENRE horror + angst
WORD COUNT 2.5k
SYNOPSIS Having a real Christmas tree was something you took pride in each year. Going to harvest the tree, setting it up and enjoying the fresh pine smell was well worth all the mess the pine needles make. But after adventuring too far through the pine tree farm, you and Changbin struggle to find your way back. Instead, you're forced to deal with a demon of your own creation.
WARNINGS descriptions of injury, death, horror creature thing? (idk how to properly put a warning on that soz)
MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
It was a scene out of a movie. The snow falls seemingly in slow motion, catching on your eyelashes before falling and melting on the warmth of your cheeks. You were huddled up tight in your jacket and scarf. One hand in your pocket, the other in Changbins as he held your hand tightly. He looked much the same as you did. His face was hidden under a mask and scarf, his hair disappearing under a beanie. You stood patiently in line, waiting to be served at the tree nursery.
Today wasn't the ideal day to be out walking through a forest. But it was the only day Changbin had time before Christmas. And of course, it was a day when the weather was not on your side. A cold wind blew snow throughout your area, with no sun to be seen behind the thick clouds, it was miserable.
With the poor weather, it surprised you how many people were out and about. But slowly you made your way to the front of the line. Dragging your feet against the mushy snow with each step. Finally, you reach the front of the line, Changbin does the talking as you hold onto his arm and look after the field of pine trees. You feel like a child but you don’t mind it, you feel safe with Changbin and want to enjoy the excitement of Christmas with him.
You try to get a head start and find a tree perfect for your apartment, but from this far away they all look the same. The falling snow distorts your vision. You see a figure move through the trees in the distance. The figure is too big to be a human, frame towering over where even a tall human would stand. You squeeze your eyes shut, convinced it's a mixture of your mind playing tricks on you and the snowfall. But when you open it, you meet with an empty row of trees once again.
Before you can express your findings to your boyfriend, he's leading you towards the trees. Each step was filled with joy. He speaks to you in his high-pitched voice. “Is my baby excited to get a tree?”
“Binnie” You cringe, laughing away the worry your mind created. It’s a combination of the thick clothing you're wearing as well as the weight of the snow against your boots that makes you waddle along through the trees. Your conversation with Changbin flows nicely, stopping mid-sentence to point out a nice tree before continuing to talk. The two of you may have been a tad picky when deciding what tree to bring to your home.
“It’s a good shape but it was too tall for the lounge”
“Not that one! It’s barely a stick!”
“Look over there, it's nearly as short as you!”
By the time the two of you can agree on a tree, what was left of the hiding sun was beginning to set. But to you, no time has passed. You brushed it off as if you were just enjoying spending time with your boyfriend, but still, something felt off. You felt uneasy being in a forest this late. You stood patiently as Changbin kneeled down, marking the trunk of the tree you had decided on. Just as it did earlier in the day, your eyes began to wander around the trees that surrounded you and panic hit you. You didn’t recognize any of where you were, the snow covering where your tracks had come from. With the sun disappearing, you must've gone further enough that you could no longer see the building where you started. But once again, it felt off, your legs aren't sore as they should be walking such a long way.
Just as your worries began to get the best of you, Changbin stood, brushing the snow off of his legs and giving you a smile. But it quickly dropped as he saw the panic on your face. Taking your gloved hand, he bought you closer to his side. “You ok my darling?”
“I think we’re lost” You heard him chuckle at your words, but you knew he wasn’t making fun of you. Instead, it was to reassure you.
“Don't be silly. I know where we are” He sounded confident but you watched as his head turned in each and every direction before his eyebrows furrowed together. “Maybe I don’t know where we are”
“Oh god,” You groan, not wanting to go through the process of being ‘rescued’ by the workers.
“It’s ok, let me just search it up on my phone” He didn't let you leave his side as he pulled out his phone. But once again, disappointment struck when he realised he had no service. You tried your own phone, having just as little luck when you saw the empty bars at the top of your screen.
Changbin was always more level-headed than you, and he sensed your growing panic so he needed to act quickly. He took your hands, standing in front of you. “Y/N look at me” Meeting his eyes, you tried not to tear up, embarrassed about how easily upset you got. “We are ok. We’re not lost in some creepy forest, we're on a farm. Worst case scenario, they notice we're not back by the time they close and they’ll send someone out to find us”
“Worst case scenario is we die!” You know you're being dramatic but as your breathing gets heavier you can’t help it, the first tear rolling down your cheek. The creature you’re convinced you saw earlier passes through your mind.
“Y/N!” He whines, pouting his lips. “That won’t happen, I got you”
“Promise?” You give in to his hope, lip wobbling until he places a gentle kiss.
“I promise” He doesn’t dwell on the serious stuff for long, not wanting to upset you. “As I said, it's on a farm. If we walk far enough in one direction we’ll find the exit”
You rub your sleeve against your cheek, wiping off any stray tears. “Which way do we go then?”
He thinks for a moment, before starting to hum the track of a familiar sound. Placing his hands on your waist and rocking you back and forth. You laugh at his antics, the snow falling between your faces makes this feel like a scene from a romance movie. Something you had dreamed of doing with a lover on Christmas was now coming true.
You stay like that for a moment, holding each other with the biggest smile on your face. He soon removes his hands, holding one out for you to grab. You can’t feel his skin with the gloves the both of you wear, but you've held it so many times you can imagine. Holding your hand over your head, he spins you. Continuing to hum as he lets you drop back into his arms.
You’re facing a whole other direction by the time you’ve stopped twirling, you remain in his arms, looking up at him as he supports you. You break eye contact, pointing towards the new direction you're facing. “That way”
Tumblr media
Changbins' theory of walking in one direction to find an exit had been proven wrong. After hours of trenching through the snow, you were just as deep in the forest as when you had started. Maybe even deeper. All the light had left the sky now, it was pitch black apart from the flashlights from your phones. But even then they were going to die soon. Keeping warm proved a challenge, yes you were wrapped in your winter gear but the snow still chilled you through to the bones. You felt them squeaking against your muscles with every step.
“Binnie?” Your voice was weak, you felt small against the world and needed to hide against his arm.
“Y/N” His voice was just as small and defeated as you. He stops, leaning into your touch. You spoke to him looking for reassurance. He always made you feel better, made you see the good in a bad situation. But as he spoke, you knew there was no hope left in him either. “What do we do?”
It was your time to be the strong one, he needed guidance and as much as you wanted to break down. You had to be there for him, the way he was always there for you. “Should we stop?”
He nods, taking a breath and slowing his steps. There are spots under the trees where no snow has fallen, protected by the leaves above. But the ground is still wet and frozen. The two of you opt to squat and lean against the trunk. Although it's not the most comfortable, your legs ache and any form of relief is welcomed. You stare at Changbin, head resting on the tree just as he does. His eyes search for any hope that you may have, but just like him, you're empty. Drained of any emotion.
“What’s the plan?” You finally speak, breaking the comfortable silence that comes with being by Changbin.
“I guess-” As he begins to speak, a deep roar comes from somewhere near you. It's a brutal sound, making the both of you jump to your feet. Panic eating you alive. Incivility you hold onto Changbins hand.
Loud footsteps make the ground shake as whatever makes the noise heads your way. Realistically, you could run. It's a big enough place you could lose whatever was coming. But both of you are frozen. Your heart sinks as the creature finally comes into view, the same one you saw earlier in the day. As it makes its way towards you, you get a better view. Their skin is pale, almost white from the lack of sun. Although it walks on all fours, it resembles something of a human, but from years of abuse from the forest, its skin as bones. But not human bones, each and every point on the thing is long and extended. You can barely comprehend what you're seeing as it gets closer and more details to come to light. It has a human face, mouth tore open and eyes deep, but human nonetheless. Despite all the uncanny features, the detail that is most familiar to you is the one that scares you the most.
Around the red and irritated neck of this beast is a gold chain that holds a bright red gem. Something Changbin had gifted you last Christmas, something you had never taken off. You look down and find your necklace still in place. But why is this thing wearing a matching one?
You don’t know if Changbin has noticed this, but even if he has he's in too much of a hurry to leave. He grips your hand tighter and begins running. You're grateful he's able to make the first move getting out of here. But you two are not the only ones trying to escape. You don’t dare to look back, hearing the loud thumping come back. This time faster and closer.
You try your best to keep up with Changbin, your legs going as fast as they can despite the burning. Any discomfort you felt earlier is replaced with the need to survive. But your body can’t keep up with your mind and you feel your legs give out under you. A sharp pain shoots through your leg as you feel your ankle twist. You lose your grip on Changbin and he continues forward for a moment before noticing your absence. Looking up and behind you, you see the creature run between the trees, almost at your feet now.
“Just go!” You yell at Changbin, struggling against the cold to stand. But he doesn’t listen, turning around and grabbing your arm.
“I’m not leaving you!” He screams in your face, tears pouring down his. He tries to pull you up but your legs aren't cooperating. If Changbin wants to survive, he needs to leave you now. Through sobs, you beg for him to go, trying your hardest to stand despite your chances.
Before you can get another word out, Changbin goes flying away from your side. A flash goes past your head as the creature follows. Your scream is almost deafening as you watch the snow soak red. The creature lurks over Changbins unmoving body, completely ignoring your cries for it to leave him alone. Despite only being a few metres in front of you, you struggle to crawl through the snow to get to him.
Eventually, the creature looks up and directly at you, blood soaks its mouth, blood that has been ripped from the stomach of the one you love the most. Despite this, the most disturbing part is the recognition of the creature's face. It’s like looking directly into a mirror. Tears brim your eyes and you give up. Wishing for death so you don’t have to deal with the pain of losing Changbin. Once you hear the crunching of snow you brace yourself for what should be your final moments. But once you open your eyes again, you’re alone. The creature simply disappears out of sight.
In front of you still lies Changbin, or what remains of him. His torso is ripped to shed, his blood melting the snow around him and revealing the soft grass underneath. Finally being able to move, you make your way to him.
Looking down at his face, he’s just as beautiful as ever, even more, peaceful than how you saw him last. But you can’t help the build-up of sorrow in your chest and soon you’re sobbing again. The mouth opens as tears rip through your body. You manage to look at him once again, seeing your tears fall onto him. Wiping them away, you begin to beg again.  “Changbin you can’t leave me. Please! You promised!”
No response.
“Please god, this can’t be happening. I need him, I-I can’t do this. It isn't fair!” After what felt like a lifetime of begging, you've run out of tears. The cold numbs your skin and freezes your heart. It’s harder to walk now, but you say your goodbyes and start to walk again. determined to make it out of this. Determined to survive.
But walking becomes your life. You’re walking in loops for days, months, or years? You lost track. The snow never stopped but neither did your legs. You wore through your shoes, soon walking on your bare feet. The snow froze them, breaking down your skin until you were walking on the bone. You grew used to the pain, growing stronger from it. With constant snow came no sun, draining you of any colour and any life you had. With no energy, it became more effective to walk on your hands as well. But the same treatment happens, breaking your skin and building up your bones.
You were a shell of what you once were, but the pain ate you alive. Nothing was more excruciating than watching your lover die. Not the cold, not the bleeding or the blisters. Nothing. You would walk on forever, breaking your bones before you would ever wish anyone to experience the pain you did.
So when you saw your younger self standing in line, you watched on from the tree line. Begging for attention from who you once were. A warning not to come any closer. But just as the first time, you were too distracted by love to know any better.

Special Pet
A/N: This is inspired completely by this song and a movie called, "Pet" with some of creative liberties. I hope it puts you in the mood for Halloween. I tried making this as gender neutral as possible. This is written in 1st person to challenge. Some mistakes may occur in this. Also if you feel like it, plus heart and reblog this. It really helps with the algorithm and my confidence.
Summary: How far would you go to cure a loved one? Bang Chan is willing to go end of the Earth for you to stop with the games you play with people.
Warning: Blood, murder, hallucinations, caged in, and hysteria. I can't remember anything else. So if you see anything else that's trigger, let me know and I'll added it.
“Everything happened so fast, but it had to be done. I had to do it to keep everyone safe” my disheveled voice shocked me, as I paced. My fingers raked frantically through my hair, as you held your knees closely to your chest in cage. You merely silently watched me, as I continued to pace. It was like a predator just watching from their hiding hold, as their prey circled frantically. You were just waiting for me to fall into the perfect spot. “I’m doing this for your own good you get that?” I sunk down to my knees, the hysteria barely hiding behind the sheer composed veil, as I let my fingers loop into the the holes of the cage. “Chris…listen to me. This is crazy. Please you can’t keep me here.” You begged me, as you slowly crawled to me. The way you looked up at me as you crawl ignited something within me.
It frightened me the power you had over me. There was darkness that brewed behind those beautiful eyes. I had to be strong to fight the evil in you. This isn’t my love. No not the one I’d fallen in love with so long ago. You sat back on your knees with innocent eyes, your hand gingerly held onto my own hands, “Bang Chan…please?” You begged for freedom, I almost fell for it, but I pushed myself away before I fell for it. I clapped a desperate hand over my eyes then it slid down over my mouth. I got to my feet, then I turned away to gather myself. “Chris..” you said in a tone that always seemed to be caring and gentle. I begrudgingly turn to face you. The look you had almost made me open the cage, “no. You’re to stay there..wh-while I clean up the mess you’ve made.”
I storm out, I made sure each and every lock was secure, and no one would hear you while I was gone. I could hear the muffled scream, but I was confident it echo past here. I returned to the studio to see the mess, the splatter of blood everywhere, then the body laid lifeless on the ground. The visions of the attack happened so fast. I cleared the blood splatter, but I was interrupted by a phone call from Lee Know. I tried my best to push out the frantic tone, but I kept the conversation short. I dismembered the body, I pulled the teeth, burned the fingertips, and I slowly got rid of the parts while no one was looking. I did everything I had to, I did it exactly how you told me to. No one can know you or what you’ve done. No one will.
I’d come every day to speak to you, I fed you, and I made sure you were okay in here all alone. We had conversations about everything, your life, my own, and what caused you to lose all control. Now here I was realizing you haven’t learned anything in your time. You often told me that no predator could ever stay caged in. I knew what I had to do. I had to kill you to keep others safe from you. So here I am, a knife with your name on it. I kept it hidden from you, as I promised that this will your last night in the cage. I let you out, you held me close, as a way to thank you. I closed my eyes, as I braced for the job I had to do.
It went into your side like it was butter. The gasp of betrayal, you breathed. The surprise in your eyes leaving and being coated with a dark void. The warm liquid spilling out of you, as the life inside of you faded.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A clatter of things got my attention, “Changbin…did you hear that?” I asked, my hand removing one earphone. Changbin looked at me confused, as my free hand tapped his upper arm. “What? I didn’t hear anything.” He confessed, he removed his headset off his ears. We had agreed for 3RACHA to meet up to do some last minute listening before finalizing the list of song for the new album. Another unknown thud was heard from a the room that Chan seemed to never allow any of us to into. We scattered to our feet the second we heard a third thud. We could heard the sound of two people arguing, one being Chan, but the other being someone I’ve never heard.
Changbin shook as he opened the door. There the horrible scene of Chan covered in his own blood, a knife plunged into his side. I immediately got on the phone to call for emergency, and Changbin rushed to his side. Changbin shout that there was more than one stab wound. I repeated the information to the operator. Chan mumbled about there was someone else here, but I couldn’t find them, not even Changbin. He looked for the extra person, but he shook his head. He tried to calm Chan down. He was hallucinating again from his sleep deprivation. The operator told me they would be there in less than 10 minutes. Chan continued to repeat even as the paramedics took him to the ambulance was that “it was for your own good. The games had to stop.”
Everyone knew who he was. He was just a librarian. The emblematic sort of librarian who always kept to himself within the old comforts of the library walls. The sort who would prefer the companionship of clustered parchment and leathered canvases over the latest craze of contemporary devices.
Librarians were considered boring, they were stringent, they were placid, overall, there was no argument that students would better prefer anything but their sort. At least that’s how librarians were discerned as, how he was assumed to be at first.
However, he was just a little more than that.  One considering factor that diverted his image from the former librarians in the school was his appearance. His attractive features earned him the ‘hot librarian’ title, as by now it might as well be an ingrained description in his profiles.
He had the kind of face that stopped you in your tracks, which for the most part was proven to be true. And he was already used to it, the sudden pause in a person's natural expression when they looked his way followed by overcompensating with a nonchalant gaze and a weak smile. Of course, the blush that accompanied it was a dead giveaway. It didn't help that he was so modest with it either, it made the girls fall for him all the more.
He wasn’t garrulous nor long-winded, but he wasn’t the kind of man to be of few words either. He was amiable in most cases, the one who would take the initiative to approach others. And his way with words revealed how articulated and affable his nature was. No one passed up a conversation if there was ever a chance, the students found comfort in talking to him. It was easy for people to ask him for advice, and there was no hesitation in talking about their deepest, darkest secrets even. He was that kind of character after all.
People never found it weird to confide in him, never doubted his intentions, rather, they were at ease within his presence. And somehow conversing with him would always lead to a tête-à-tête. Despite all of that though, there was one strange thing about him. Sure he had some connections with students of various years, a charming student for the teachers but no one was really close to him.
He knew about them, but they didn’t know much about him.
They have just known him as the hot librarian, cool senior, or a friend perhaps—or assumed to be, but no one had ever seen anything but the saccharine side of him. He never was angry, never was dismal, never was overly jubilant. Just the same benign smile playing on his lips as though it was the only emotion he knows how to display. He was easy to remember just as how he was easy to forget.
So it never really came to be odd nor bizarre for the student population to not notice he had gone missing for days already.  It was only when he hadn’t come for his fourth shift working as a librarian that the director of the library had asked for his whereabouts. The students proposed no clue as to where he was, or what he was doing. He would only usually reside in the library, or be seen feeding the campus cat behind the church if not.
And he wasn’t in either of those places. His classmates, roommates, friends, and relatives even, addressed the same answer as the others: No, we haven’t seen him, they said. It was only after questioning most of the entire school populace of students and professors alike, and with the always response of indifference, that he was officially declared missing.
After the declaration of his disappearance, the police were fast to respond as a few groups of investigators gathered. Throughout that night, police cars were parked just outside the Great gate. This kind of missing case wouldn’t have garnered much attention if it was the usual. People going missing occur daily after all.
However, this involved the prestigious school with a long-winded and untainted, rich history. Its students were commonly children from those of importance, or keenly intelligent. In simple words, the elite of the elites. Children who were seemingly favoured, were born with outstanding wealth and capacity for knowledge gathered in this school. Boasting of its former students that included Nobel Prize winners, Prime Ministers, renounced scientists, artists, and leaders in businesses and industries. A student missing from their supervision would prove to damage their reputation.
The school had only intended for the investigation in low profile, but the apparent interest of traducers had proven it difficult otherwise. The media was quick to catch up and soon his face was strewn across the local news and through various covers of the newspapers, with big captions labelled as ‘A Student From the Distinguished Academy of Yellowwood Suddenly Went Missing ’. For the next few days, this would spread like wildfire and would be the gossip of the town.
Usually, only those with close connections to the missing person would be interviewed by the police. However, he had no one he was particularly close to, even within the students’ perspectives, he had no one who he would consider as close friends. The police had already interviewed his roommates, his professors, parents, and possible eyewitnesses.
Felix somehow found himself a part of the interviewee and was currently situated on a comfortable inclined chair.
Nov. 05 19XX, Wednesday, 3:32 P.M.
They were located in one of the many private rooms the dorm provided for students in case they wanted a room to study or simply lounge in. Although that is how outsiders viewed it. The students would call it the ‘ Make-out rooms ’ since it was partially a  small room with only—all the corporate taste for opulent items—two large sofas, across from each other with a bean bag beside each. A normal person would beg to differ however, it was definitely not small.
Felix surveyed the place, eyes lingering on the furniture and decorative pieces as if it was his first time arriving again. The room is sparse on the usual ornate detailing, more geometrical than classical. The new dorm’s concept was purposed to be modernistic and new-fashioned in contrast to the old dorm which mainly adorned the Victorian and classic look.
Felix scanned for a personal touch, something that doesn't suggest a hired designer chose it. Nothing. The floor is polished, the walls ivory and the furniture he was sure is from a high-end Scandinavian designer, but the name escapes him for the moment. Minimalistic yet exquisite paintings hung from the rich, bright walls. The window panes glistened as it allowed a lot of light through, it didn’t appear blackened as it did from the outside, it was crystal clear with the most stunning panorama of the verdant court, and with the buildings in the New Court in full view. The trees that encompassed their college campus were like the ones on his father's miniature train table. The white curtains are linen—the kind of white that is untouched by hands and devoid of dust—and fluttered slightly from the wind that circulated inside.
Felix involuntarily shivered.
There are flowers, beautiful, the perfect shade of orange to compliment the pale hues and creams. On closer inspection, their stamens have been pulled to prevent even the pollen from disturbing the perfect sheen on the pedestal tables.
Felix was brought out of his deliberate thoughts by the sound of soft clicks of heels hitting the marble floor. He had failed to realise how one of his arms hugged the span of his torso and how he agitatedly picked on the skin of his chapped lips with the other. He felt a wave of anxiety hit him the moment the door closed after a woman and a man sauntered in.
Felix resorted to clasping and unclasping his hands instead when he realised his nervous antics. The woman paused for a while, taking in his details, before taking a seat on the sofa across from him.
“Hello there, my name is Inspector Tennison from the Knot Creek, District 9 Police Department,” she introduced herself paired with an amicable smile, the most her tired facial muscles could provide. And with a swift movement, reached from under her pocket to flash her badge.
She was a woman close to her late 30s, Felix concluded. Her long dark hair was swept into an up-do and her make-up was well applied. Even in twenty years, she'd look much the same save for a few fine smile lines and crow's feet as she approached middle age. Smartly dressed, however, casual as possible her profession would permit.
“-And that’s officer Morvay,” she indicated with the tilt of her head to the man standing beside the door. Felix shifted his eyes from her to the man and gave a nod of acknowledgment.
“Lee Felix I presume?” she extended a hand. The hand she offered to shake was manicured to perfection, her bright, red painted nails a startling contrast to her tanned skin. Making her hand already seem more old and gray than it already was. Felix returned the gesture and shook her hand with the gentlest squeeze.
“Right, that’ll be me,” he politely responded. “Nice to meet you.”
“Well, pleasure’s all mine. You don’t need to be so nervous, we’re just going to ask some questions,” she chuckled when she noticed the way he anxiously averted his eyes and the way he bounced his knees.
Felix tried to smile but a twitch was all he managed as he refocused on the woman from across him. Looking his way just as friendly as a kindly relative, yet still, his insides contracted like the air was an arctic flow. This was about him, wasn’t it? He thought, the missing librarian.
“I’m going to ask you about the boy who disappeared,” she clarified.
“Apparently you were the last one who came into contact with him before he went missing,” Tennison examined the boy’s features. Gouging out the slightest shuffled movements and subtle indicating actions.
“Ah, is that so? I-I didn’t know,” Felix internally grimaced when he choked on air, causing him to stutter. He cleared his throat inaudibly, swallowed, and then continued, “Mate’s at the library last time I saw him.”
 Tennison nodded, already writing in her small journal that Felix hadn’t realised she had taken out. The inspector was serene as she worked, one part of her brain on her notes and the rest connecting things out with the information Felix was stating that only her inner eyes could witness. It was there in the rhythm of her movements, tapped out in the way her pen choreographed itself over the pages.
 “How are you related to him? Are you his friend?” she asked almost robotically as though she had already asked the questions numerous times—which no doubt she did.
“Less of a friend, more of an acquaintance?” even Felix himself was confused by his own answer. And he just realised how he knew absolutely nothing about the missing boy. Tennison only let out a hum of approval, Felix’s eyes darted to her notes for a brief moment, making out a another one  scribbled from under his name.
“We just pass by each other in the hallways. Sometimes have a conversation with him in the library, but that’s all..” Felix gave out a detached shrug and as if expecting his kind of answer, Tennison asked another question the moment he finished his words.
“Do you know someone who might have some kind of hostility against him?”
“No, I don’t know. He was friendly to everyone, knows a lot of people, but isn’t particularly close to anyone either,” suddenly his gaze went somewhere far beyond her shoulders. Submerged in his own thoughts.
“Well, when you last saw him was he expressing some kind of concern or somehow a problem? Afraid perhaps?” Tennison inquired with narrowed eyes, although she tried to act attentively, she had already predicted his answer. Considering how the others she had formerly interviewed had also responded with something along the lines of he was as usual.
“He didn’t look like it. He was looking the same as usual, smiling.” Bingo, Tennison humorlessly thought.
If this was how it would continue, then this case would be as good as a cold one. There was little to no evidence, no eyewitnesses, and the missing boy had almost no way to contact. By now, Tennison had concluded that the boy had voluntarily disappeared. She shook her head in disappointment, Kids these days. Especially silver-spooned kids who only knew how to flaunt their wealth and authority. Tennison had already had her fair share of this kind of case throughout her seven years of career, and it would be a lie to say that she wasn’t annoyed.
The trope was simple, their parents would appeal to the public to showcase how worried they were when in reality they couldn’t have cared less. The boy might have just wanted to run away from his overbearing parents, this was no old news for students born of high expectations. When he finally runs out of money, also because people of their calibre are ignorant of how the outside world works—outside the convenience of their undoubted indulged life. He would continue on how much his spoiled naivety could get him before finally returning with pathetic realisations and case closed.
Why waste my time then? What Tennison hadn’t known was that the case was anything but that. Felix heard the fatigued, more of an upset, sigh that came from the woman in front of him and he tilted his head. Tennison cleared her throat when she noticed the boy waiting—staring.
“Do you have any possible thoughts as to where he might have gone? Or why did he go missing?” she continued. Not even bothering to hide the lack of interest she had for his response as she devoted her time instead to doodling the corners of her notes. Felix frowned, the former nervousness he displayed was replaced with a ridiculed expression. However, he caught himself before Tennison shifted her attention, after being seemingly satisfied with her illustrative skills, to him.
“No, I only meet him either in the library or the hallways. I can’t think of any other places where he might go,” he answered, lowly.
“I see, according to another student. He was the one who called for you. Can you tell me why?” Tennison continued with her indifferent inquiry, failing to notice the sudden change in mood of the boy. Even if she did, she chose to ignore it.
“Uhm, sure. He called for me because he wanted me to give Jeongin the tape he found while working...Ah! But I guess he said some weird things,” Felix's eyes flashed for a moment when he remembered the details from his last conversation with the missing boy. His brief outburst caught Tennison’s attention as she refocused her gaze on the boy.
“Oh?” now this was something new. “Jeongin?”
“Ah, a friend of mine.”
“And why do you say the missing boy had said something strange?” Tennison’s curiosity was suddenly piqued by the revelation.
“In my last conversation with him, I don’t know if it was a coincidence or not. But he acted as if he knew he was going to be missing,” he scrunched his nose and unknowingly started to bite his lower lip. Tennison seemed to have been lost within her thoughts considering the moment of silence that yawned between them. When she finally regained her senses, she looked at Felix again.
“Can you elaborate on the conversation you had with the boy if you don’t mind?” she demanded. If he didn’t know better it would seem as if the inspector had always been passionate with her questioning how her eyes finally seemed to sparkle and how an unhidden enthusiasm was impressed on her face. Eager and listening, like a keen beagle.
“Sure,” Felix was hesitant at first, however soon words kept rolling out his tongue. He would tell this story a hundred times in the weeks and months to come under official and unofficial circumstances. He will tweak it occasionally, leave some details out—seemingly just because he was too lazy to tell it again, or maybe because he just simply forgot. He’ll either inflate it, out of pure naive gaiety or iron it down, depending.
However, the event that had really happened has lodged itself tightly in the back of his mind. Uncomfortable in his head as it continued winding itself through his thoughts on a continuous loop, unfurling in his dreams. He didn’t know where to begin so prompted instead to start on the events he could clearly remember.
He recalled briefly how the evening had already darkened when he was running through the hallways. Ignoring the rebuking scoldings from passing professors or members of the disciplinary committee as he ran past them with an insincere apology. He had just gotten out of his club and was already drenched with sweat. Opting to just take a bath when he got to the dorm instead of their usual routine of rinsing in the shower room just designed for the fencing club.
His mind was too driven with the intention to study for the test his class would have tomorrow. He intended to go to the library the moment he finished his club, the problem was that fencing took a while longer than customary so he hurried just as how the sun seemed to chase the horizon. There was a curfew to follow after all, and he only hoped that he’d have enough time to cram a month’s worth of lessons in the few hours to spare. A student had also called for him before he went to the club, stating that the librarian was asking for him. So Felix was left to wonder what he wanted with him, and this was another thought that busied his mind.
When he finally reached the doors that led to the library, he found the moment to catch up with his breath. Felix wiped out the beads of sweat that trailed from his forehead to his jaw with the cuffs of his sleeves. He pushed open the heavy swing door and went into a room with a tiled chessboard floor and about fifty shelves fanning out from a central reception area. Six or seven people were sitting at tables, studying. A boy in a thickly knitted sweater was reading a book titled Dear a Deer’s Death from beyond the counter.
“Whaddya’ call me for?!” Felix yelled from the entrance—which earned a few cursory glares from the library’s inhabitants—directing his question to the boy currently engrossed with his reading as he casually ambled his way towards him.
“Hello to you too Felix,” he smiled, lifting his eyes from the printed paper to look at the newly arrived boy. “And next time try to be a little quieter, we’re inside a library after all.” Felix only shot him a dubious look and snickered.
“Mate, why are you actin’ like a librarian all of the sudden?”
“What do you mean?” he gasped, offended, “I AM a librarian.”
“Oh please, I reckon everyone knows you’re only doin’ this job as an excuse to drown yourself with books, not really to be a—” he quoted with his fingers, “—blasted librarian,” Felix rolled his eyes harmlessly as he leaned against the counter.
“Oops, was I that obvious?” the librarian enunciated his statement by feigning a shocked expression, a hand ghosting over his lips strained to a poor of an attempt exclamation. With an unimpressed visage, Felix responded with a laugh that clearly lacked humour. The older smiled.
“Fair enough, moving on, what do you need from me? I still need to study and the library’s gonna close in like...what? four hours?” Felix trailed off, searching for the clock that he had already forgotten where was hung at.
“Two hours and thirty-eight minutes to be exact,” the librarian rectified, blowing some brown locks away from his eyes and Felix cursed under his breath.
How is he supposed to wedge all of the lessons in his head in under three hours? He never studied outside the library, so don’t expect him to study back at the dorm. Felix cupped his face with his hand and dragged them downwards in a dramatic act of grievance. He watched how the librarian momentarily swivelled the chair and crouched in his seat to duck behind the counter.
Felix could hear him open a drawer from below and the sound of paper and leather shuffling. When the librarian seemingly realized that the object he was supposed to give Felix wasn’t there, he frowned. He pivoted within his swivel chair and with the balls of his feet pushed through the opposite direction towards a stack of books in the corner. He started lifting them one by one, leafing through pages and Felix occasionally heard him say where did I put it again?   as he continued to ransack the drawers and books.
Felix shook his head, how could he be a librarian if he’s that forgetful? He thought.
“Well, that’s weird I swore I put it somewhere around here,” he mumbled. Felix thought that it would still take a while considering a good, solid 10 minutes had already passed and he still couldn’t find whatever he was searching for. He was about to voice out his complaints when the librarian finally exclaimed.
“There you are!” he maneuvered, still in his seat, towards Felix as he extended out a hand. In which the latter received it with the palm of his hands.
“A cassette?” he asked, baffled. Tracing the outlines of the compact case containing a length of magnetic tape that runs between two small reels.
“Uh huh, your friend left it marked between the book he recently borrowed. Figured he probably forgot it or something,” he elucidated.
“Why not call for Jeongin then?” the librarian merely shrugged, the book he left lying over the counter was in his grasp again.
“I’ve never talked to the boy.” Felix let out a low hum of understanding before finally lifting his arms off the desk.
“Well, if that’s all then I still gotta torture my brains with the pest I call studying so au revoir !” Felix had already turned on his heels when he heard his name being called. He swung his head in response and raised a brow to indicate he was listening.
“I also have a favor to ask.” Felix took notice of how suddenly the librarian’s demeanor had changed. With an unsure pursed smile and fidgeting hand that crumpled the pages of the book under his fingers. Felix wasn’t sure if he was nervous or what, he hadn’t seen him looking so restless before.
“Yeah? No worries, what’s up?” Felix walked back to his prior position at the counter as he waited for the older to speak. Suddenly, as if the librarian’s behavior was contagious, he became nervous too. The nagging part of him, that warned of the time being wasted, was pushed against the back of his head as he directed all of his attention to the librarian’s next words instead.
“Oh it’s no big deal, I just want you to feed Whisky in my stead.”
“Whis-wait what? Who?” Felix let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. Who’s Whisky? he thought. It took him a moment to realize who the older was relating to, then he gave a slow blink, “The Campus Cat?”
The librarian genuinely smiled at the mention of the feline, “Yes,” he nodded.
“Holy shit. Mate no! Why d'ya gave it a name?!” Felix shrieked as if the older had done something wrong. The latter had only furrowed his brows in confusion.
“What do you mean why? You call it the Campus Cat, that’s worse if you ask me. It needs a proper name,” the librarian simply said.
“Touché , but s’not the point. Problem is you’ll get atta-” Felix couldn’t even finish his sentence when the librarian interjected.
“Can’t you? This is my first time asking a favor from you, so please?” he pleaded. Felix remained still with his movements, mouth still partially open. It was the heavy sigh that escaped his lips that had indicated his defeat—that he didn't even know why there was a reason to feel lost.
“Fine, no drama,” he spat out. “But why? You goin’ somewhere?” Felix wasn’t particularly that curious, it was just the first thing that came into his mind when the librarian had asked for the favor.
Something flashed beneath the surface of the librarian’s hardened expression and Felix noticed the sudden shift. However he was too late, the emotion had disappeared before he could identify it. Like reaching desperately for an escaped balloon; the string dangling so tantalizingly close but the wind pushed it away and it's lost forever.
“Who knows? I might just suddenly disappear…like magic,” the librarian laughed with a cock of his head and Felix had overlooked the way how the laughter hadn’t quite reached his eyes. Felix blew a derogatory raspberry and scoffed.
“All the reading finally screwed with the way you think. I’m warning you mate, before you go mad stop immersing yourself with fairytales,” he mimicked with his fingers as he twirled them beside his head, lips in a mock grouch. The librarian inclined an elbow against the mahogany desk, he merely smiled in return as his chin rested on the palm of his hand.
“In your dreams perhaps?” he rebutted. Felix grumbled and slackened his shoulders, He’s hopeless, he thought. With a look of pity directed at the older, Felix continued walking, remembering his initial purpose in going to the library in the first place. “Oh, and Felix?” the librarian called out.
“Yep?” Felix turned around again.
“Most people don't know that the real reason librarians make you be quiet is so they can hear if the ghosts are awake. So next time— and I mean it,” no more words were needed as the librarian placed a finger on his lips. Felix gave him a puzzled look. He already lost the plot, he thought but nonetheless nodded.
“Take care Felix,” was the last thing he heard that departed from the librarian’s mouth.
Felix responded back with a wave of his own before finally turning his back. He hadn’t noticed how the librarian’s expression fell. His clouded eyes continued to linger on his figure until he watched Felix vanish behind the bookshelves, before finally resuming his reading. What the librarian had not realized, however, was that he was just reading the same phrase over and over again. The words never seemed to register as his thoughts went astray.
“Well, I guess it might be just a coincidence after all,” Felix suggested with a shrug of his shoulders. Tennison only let out a low hum.
“It seems that way,” she nodded. “Does he always talk like that?”
“Talk like what?” Felix raised a brow.
“Hmm, he didn’t answer your question when you asked him if he was going somewhere,” Tennison began to tap the notes with the pen curled on her fingers and Felix observed how the dotted blots had formed an image akin to the night sky.
“Yea...? I guess? He’s pretty much,” the word had played on Felix’s tongue before finally voicing, “.. .enigmatic .” If Tennison's former inference had still seeded the benefit of the doubt, this has only confirmed her assumption.
“Are you sure he didn’t say anything to you?” Tennison’s tone was almost accusing, and Felix wasn’t fond of it, though he did not show it on his face as he remained impassive.
“About what?” he asked with the tilt of his head.
“Did he have any complications concerning the school? Has he ever been bullied?” she continued.
“No,” Felix shook his head, “---well at least I haven’t seen anyone do.” The thought of someone possibly hurting the librarian felt unpleasant for Felix to think about. That’s impossible, he frowned, he’s not that type of person to be bullied.
“Then,” she let out a heavy disgruntled sigh, “had he ever posed symptoms of some kind of mental complications, such as depression?”
“ No. I already told you, he’s not that kind of person,” Felix defended. The inspector’s persistent yet seemingly careless behavior began to confuse and disturb him. This woman’s getting on my nerves, he internally admitted.
 “Do you, perhaps, know anything about his family circumstances?”
“What? No...why are you asking me that?” Felix had begun to feel uneasy, although he hadn't realized it, he didn’t like where the conversation was heading. Tennison nodded again, ignoring his question as she scribbled something in her notes that Felix wasn’t able to catch.
“Are you sure he didn’t have any problem that would compel him to lea—”
“You’re talking as if he had run away,” Felix interjected, feeling that the inspector’s questions were being too repetitive. Tennison suddenly found herself being insulted by the boy cutting off her words. But she willed the growing impatience away by reminding herself that she was conversing with an ignorant kid.
“Well, considering the fact that he simply disappeared with little to no evidence, no contacts, we’re kind of leaning in that direction.”
“No! He didn’t!” Felix persisted, not knowing why he felt the need to change the conclusion the inspector had in mind. “I already told you before—that he wasn’t that type of person!” he was practically yelling by this point, with brows knitted and veins on his neck threatening to burst. An uncalled emotion boiled from beneath his chest, riddling not only him but also the other occupants in the room.
“Then are you telling me he got what? Spirited away?” Tennison chided, half-sardonically joking and half-determined to prove the boy wrong. “Why are you so hellbent on saying he didn’t run away? Do you really don’t know anything?” Tennison’s brows were already formed into a scowl, and Felix perceived the underlying implications in her words. He found himself shrinking under her accusatory gaze and was rendered tongue-tied.
There was a nagging sense of comprehension that formed in his head, some sort of certainty that he couldn’t quite explain. He was convinced, however, that despite the nebulous case of nerves he was feeling that whatever’s happening was anything but, that can be just concluded as a simple runaway. It involved something deeper, something more intricate, and something more... terrifying.
After remaining unnoticed for so long, Morvay had finally uttered a word as he called for Tennison from the corner of the room. The inspector cleared her throat out of embarrassment, leaning back at the sofa again after realizing she had almost pushed herself to the edge of the seat. She momentarily admonished herself for being aggravated by the boy. Tennison knew for a fact that she was correct considering she had more experience than Felix, who was no more than just a student. After finally calming down, she spoke again.
“Kid, listen, people don’t just simply disappear, if he presumably had been kidnapped then there would always be evidence left behind. Children like yourself are only kidnapped in exchange for ransom and seeing that we haven’t gotten any call…” she paused, slowly voicing the words as though Felix was a preschooler, and making sure that the boy was listening in carefully, “I suppose he wasn’t . That only contributes to the fact that he had run away .”
Felix wanted to argue back that he didn’t. But knowing better, he refrained himself from doing so. The inspector was already tenacious and steadfast on her mind and Felix wouldn’t desire to misuse his time with futile arguments. He stayed muted throughout the rest of the inspector’s explanation. When Tennison had noticed the silent war of nerves, she gave a tight smile, her eyes mirroring the boy’s vexed ones. She closed her notes with a loud thump and proceeded to stand from her seat.
“That concludes our interview Mr. Lee, thank you for lending us your time,” Tennison had always said those words as customary to show appreciation for the people who gave their time to answer her questions.
However, the condescending mumble of you should be from the boy only served as a reminder of how considerable her resentment is directed toward people like Felix. And she convinced herself not to even utter a word of gratitude under their presence next time.
Tennison turned on her heels and left the room, not even sparing a glance at her companion as she passed by him. Morvay tipped his hat as he nodded and Felix only stared at him before he, too, walked out of the room.
Felix's eyes lingered at the closed door, not really thinking about anything. He didn’t know how many minutes had passed but when he finally recovered from his trance, he stood up with a stretch. Felix strode towards the window and shut it closed, the wind had long since unsettled him. And when he saw two figures exiting the dormitory, he followed them with his eyes until they disappeared into another building. The familiar observance from behind the curtain recollected a memory.
Oct. 30 19XX, Thursday, 8:30 P.M.
“Why do you always go out?”
The librarian accidentally dropped the set of keys he was holding intended to lock the library doors, he reached for it in reflex but failed to catch it as the clinking of metal collided against the floor—reverberating across the now empty hall. Felix was surprised when he heard him swear under his breath. The librarian turned his head towards him with a reprimanding glance. It was already night and the students have already retreated back to their dorms.
“Felix you scared me!” he grumbled. He was about to crouch down in order to retrieve the fallen keys, but Felix was faster as he picked them up instead by using one of his feet.
A hand was casually resting within his pocket and with the other, caught the keys effortlessly as they were sent thrust in the air. He internally grimaced when he felt the burning cold bite through his skin as the metal came into contact with his palm. And then he handed the keys back to the older with an ever-present sheepish smile playing on his lips.
“Sorry mate, didn’t mean to.” Felix might have purposely crept from behind him with that intention, but what he doesn’t know doesn’t kill him, right? he amusingly thought. The librarian, however, knew better, he only shook his head in dismissal of the mischievous boy’s antics.
“What did you say again?” he asked. With the keys now firmly clutched in his hands, he combed through them to find the specific key—which he couldn’t be bothered to do again if not for the freckled boy almost scaring him to death. When he finally did find it, he settled the key on the lock and turned it clockwise with not a moment’s waste. A satisfying click resounded and the librarian retracted the key before tucking it within his breast pocket.
“Why do you always go out?” Felix repeated, “Ya know, in the dead of the night?” Felix couldn't help but note the apparent stiffening of the librarian’s movements.
“What do you mean?” the librarian nervously chuckled, hands seeming to find themselves fidgeting beside him. Felix let out a triumphant smile, he was making the librarian this nervous. It was quite the feat if Felix might say so himself. He leaned an arm over the older’s shoulder, his face uncomfortably close.
“I'm not as dumb as you think; don't try to pull the wool over my eyes! You don’t need to hide it!” If the librarian thought that Felix’s smile couldn’t get any larger, then he thought wrong. The librarian shuddered when his gaze came into contact with Felix’s. He involuntarily gulped but the strained smile remained on his face.
“Felix, I don’t know what you’re talking about. You know it’s against the rules to go out once curfew,” the librarian gently pushed the boy’s arms off his shoulder as he noticed the latter’s eyes grew a darker shade. The wind suddenly blew, and he felt the cold creep by the nape of his neck.
“So...” Felix rounded his head. His locks of blonde hair—unruly, but perfectly framed his face—slightly fluttered in the process. The blonde hair and vibrant orchid eyes made his feather dusting of a freckles pop against his fair skin even under the dim night lights.
“Who are ya meeting with?” the librarian’s face fell faster than a corpse in cement boots. In that instant his skin became greyed, his mouth hung with lips slightly parted and his eyes were as wide as they could stretch. What Felix couldn’t understand was the exaggerated fear that formed on his features.
“Is it...” the librarian was silent as he anticipated Felix’s next words. “Is it Ashley or is it Sophia?” Felix giddily wriggled his brows as he erupted with giggles like a girl.
“What…?” the librarian didn’t know if he was supposed to feel relieved or pity the bemused boy for being so simple-minded. He was relieved nonetheless, as he smacked the boy behind his head, ultimately ending the...creepy, sinister —for the lack of better term to describe Felix’s—laugh. The younger had only shot him a playful glare before cracking into a grin again. He hooted.
“OHH ripper, you little! Look who got a girl! Look who got a girl!” he sing-songed. “Who would have imagined! The librarian? That same man who remained as stoic as a stone even when a girl confesses?” Felix paused to pat the older in his shoulder with a knowing look and raised a thumb.
“What makes you think it’s a girl?” the librarian smirked with an eyebrow raised. Advancing past the stunned boy as he made his way back towards the dorm. A few minutes had passed when he finally heard a shuffle of footsteps follow him.
“Oh, uhm, righto, Shouldn’t have assumed haven’t I? But, wait.  I mean—that makes sense? Wa—” Felix was left a stuttering mess as he walked beside the older while flaunting his hands in a kind of apologetic way as he strung words of excuses and self-reflection. The librarian let out a boisterous laugh, and Felix was stunned again. He hadn’t seen him laugh so unreserved before, he would usually just direct a simple, gentle smile. The laugh was just as contagious as a yawn and this time Felix somehow felt accomplished as he laughed with him.
“You’re so amusing,” the librarian swiped a stray tear that formed from his outburst and finally quieted down. During the duration of their walk, Felix somehow felt he had gotten closer to his senior.
He wasn’t that ignorant as to not notice how he seemed to distance himself from the others. Felix would always spot him in the library occasionally talking to others, but most of the time, he was alone, immersed in reading a book. There were more than a few instances when Felix would turn to him for advice or simply because he wanted a conversation partner. He was caring as an older brother, and he felt thankful for that. He hoped that the librarian had also been comfortable with him, so when he asked for a favor, it was unexpected. Felix would have agreed no matter the request in a heartbeat, that’s just how indebted Felix felt towards him.
The walk was short and before Felix knew it they were back at the dorm. He couldn’t help but feel a little dejected at how their conversation would inevitably end. The librarian must have noticed his inner thoughts as he ruffled the younger’s head. Felix beamed him a smile. He pushed the button that indicated upwards and they waited in front of the elevator.
“Well, that was bonzer,” Felix remarked honestly. He turned to the older and winked, “And don’t worry mate I’ll keep your little secret.” The elevator ringed and not a moment later, the steel door opened. Felix was halfway inside when he felt a tug on his wrist. He tilted his head to the librarian.
“Uh…” Felix noticed how the older had bounced on his knees, biting his lips in contemplation. He averted his eyes from Felix’s anticipating ones before finally resettling them back again to him.
 “Nothing, goodnight.” The librarian quickly pulled back his hand and inserted them in his pockets instead. Felix gave a confused frown while holding open the elevator doors.
“You’re not comin’?” Felix ransacked his memory to confirm that the older indeed lived a floor above him.
“No,” the librarian shook his head, “I still have some business left to do.”
“Oh, alright. Have a good one then!” Felix slumped back his arms beside him as the elevator door began to close, “See ya later!” he yelled back before the steeled door completely shut, never even having the chance to hear the older’s response.
Later that night, Felix went into the kitchen of his compartment. It might be an odd thing to say, but it had become a habit of his to suddenly wake up, hungry . This was the reason he had found out the librarian had been sneaking out one time when he only intended to eat some cereals. He expected it to be one of the patrol guards considering that it was dead of the night and that no students were allowed out after curfew.
What attracted his attention, however, was the strange, and stealthy actions the figure moved. He’s also not using a flashlight , Felix noticed. Starting from then on, there were various instances when Felix would catch that same silhouette again and he would always watch until it would blend in the darkness where his sight couldn’t make the silhouette out anymore. He never knew who the figure’s identity was until the prior night when his features were caught under lamp light. It would be a lie to say that he wasn’t beyond surprised to recognize that it was the librarian.
Felix extended a hand to open the cupboard where the cereals were stocked when he caught something moving in his peripheral vision. His movements stilled and his attention was completely focused from beyond the kitchen window.
How many nights does this make now? he snickered as he shook his head.
Felix continued watching the figure until it stopped just between where his eyes wouldn't be able to perceive anymore. And as if aware that it was being watched, the figure turned towards him. Felix felt his joints harden, a nervous smile faltering from his lips. He couldn’t possibly have known right?
The lights were closed from the inside and the window was designed to appear black from the outside.
Course’ not, Felix shrugged it off, but he couldn’t ignore the erupting goosebumps across his skin. He trained his eyes at the figure as if it would make things any clearer. It was still there, he noted. From the distance he couldn’t surmise whether it was still looking at him so he leaned closer, his nose almost touching the window pane. The silhouette moved and Felix jerked his head. Is, is he wavin—
Thud!
The air is suddenly rented by the sound of a colliding impact. And Felix stumbled away from the window, his legs tangled as he made a pathetic attempt to regain his balance by flailing his hands in the air before finally falling to the floor, quivering.
Tension grew in his face and limbs as his breathing became more rapid, more shallow. A flurry of thoughts accelerated inside his head. Willing them to slow so he could breathe. He felt his heart hammering inside his heaving chest like it belonged to a rabbit running for its skin. Perspiration formed from under his clothes and Felix blinked the blur in his eyes as he refocused his gaze at the window.
It was fractured.
The center of the impact was more protruded, a few shattered fragments already littered the floor like tiny daggers, the moonlight violently shining off them. It spread out like veins and branched like a drunk spider's web before imploding. What grabbed his attention, however, was that something was stuck just between the fissured pane.
The thing that had collided with the window. Felix dared to lean a closer look to ascertain what it was. What he hadn’t expected, however, was it to be— alive .
The crow squawked the moment Felix moved towards it.
“Fuck me dead?!” He stood on his feet and hastily backed off until his hips collided with the counter from behind him. The crow continued thrashing from the window pane.
Ink-stained feathers fluttered in the air as its tarry wings beat the air in an attempt to break free. Its talon scratched off against the window as it shrieked in protest. The crow continued to cry in an almost humanlike language as it became so raucous that Felix was forced to block his ears to prevent the bursting of his eardrums.
The sound sent shivers down his spine.
Its frantic body continued whipping around like some kind of crazed beast until a sickening crunch! resounded from it before quieting. Before Felix’s brain can register the sound of breaking glass, his eyes are shut tight and a million new knives fell softly over his exposed skin.
He froze, all but his heart remaining statue-like on the marble tile. When finally, he allowed his eyelids to flutter open he saw that the ground was stained red, the colour creeping outward among the shards. Felix trailed towards the limp figure of the crow before he closed his eyes again, and turned his head in repulse as his lips pursed thinly.
When he looked once more he saw how a large shard had embedded itself in the crow's neck, almost decapitating it. As the life fluid drained out of its garish red, it twitched for a few seconds. And Felix's stomach knotted as he was forced to watch in horror how it finally slumped. The blood that had flowed so freely from the avulsed neck now lay in pools around the corpse and made the once beauty of the floor ruined by the gore of the crimson. Its dark, beady, and grievous eyes were open, and though it was already dead, seemed to bore into him.
Felix shuddered. When his eyes flickered upwards to examine the broken window, he shivered again. His complexion, a pallid white.
The figure had already disappeared.
 Felix wasn’t sure if it was the librarian who he'd seen, he resolved in asking him tomorrow when he might ever pass him by the hallway, or when he comes by the library.
 What he couldn’t have possibly known was that it would be the last time he would ever see him.
Maybe it was because he was the one who had last seen him. Or maybe because he had the chance to stop him from going, that Felix had blamed himself. He might have even said he felt responsible when asked for the reason. The librarian was conspicuous with his clues yet Felix wasn’t able to catch any of them.
It was in there, the oddities, the way his eyes always seemed to shift over behind him. In the smiles that didn’t reach his eyes. In the way he nervously bit his lips and fidgeted. It was there in the way he hid his trembling hands in his pockets when he had gripped onto Felix’s wrists just before he went in the elevator. It was there in his face when he settled that it was nothing yet his eyes seemed to plead for him to stay.
The fear.
Felix should have insisted, should have been more firm in stopping him, or better yet, ask about what was troubling him. What was it that he was so afraid of? Felix thought that he would be all right, considering he knew everyone. But that was the mistake.
Everyone had Lee Minho, but Lee Minho had no one.
Felix’s eyes surveyed the court from beyond the window. He was unaware of how the time had passed and the sun had already begun to set on the horizon. He could have prevented his disappearance. He had all the reasons to.
Don’t worry, Felix caressed his abraded knuckles, there was never a day he had failed to punch a wall since his disappearance, I’ll find you.
Okay, I started the recording. What do think we’re expecting from –
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Well, this certainly isn’t something you see everyday.
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
Oh my god… what is this?
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Bodies, Atsushi-kun. Really, really dead bodies.
A murder scene like this comes once a blue moon.
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
…
Have you ever seen anything like this before, Mr. Dazai?
[DAZAI OSAMU]
No time for that Atsushi-kun! Get that camera out, you know what to do.
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
Hh... Okay, deep breaths. Through the mouth.
[Dep. MINOURA]
Oi! What are you two doing?
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
Ah! He-hello, we were ju-just –
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Deputy Inspector! Hello, do you remember us? We’re from *rustle* the Armed Detective Agency, you commissioned us for this investigation?
[Dep. MINOURA]
The ADA.. That’s right, you’re that freak from the river. We specifically requested Edogawa, not you.
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Ranpo-san would have loved to join you here today, but he was obligated to other arrangements and asked me and my associate, Nakajima Atsushi, to go in his stead. But I assure you can trust me with this case. You are looking at the second greatest detective at the agency, after all.
[Dep. MINOURA]
Hmph, very well. Demonstrate your deductive ability. You, kid. Get back to work.
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
Ah, right!
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Of course.
[DAZAI OSAMU]
It seems the victims were impaled quite rapidly. The material they were hung from is a blend of polyester and… *sniffs* wool. It’s in long strips, seemingly torn from a longer sheet. It’s the kind of textile you’d find on a winter coat. It’s far too warm for this sort of cloth.
[Dep. MINOURA]
How do you figure?
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Oh my coat is made of the same material.
*click* *whirr*
Anyways, the way these bodies have been sliced looks like they were cut by the fabric itself. On some of these dismembered parts, there are traces fibers along the serrated edge.
This is the work of something inhuman.
*click* *whirr*
[Dep. MINOURA]
That’s impossible.
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Is it?
[Dep. MINOURA]
*grumble* Edogawa would have at least given us something that was grounded in reality to work with.
The effort is appreciated, Dazai. Tell your photographer to give us his copies and get the hell out of here.
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Sure thing, Inspector-san!
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
Oops, sorry Mr. Dazai!
*whirr*
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Right in the eyes! I’m blinded! I’m blind!
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
Really sorry! I was really occupied with these photos, I didn’t see you! Really– ah. What’s with the scary look?
[DAZAI OSAMU]
*hiss* next time pay more attention to your surroundings protege-kun. Careful where you point that flash. Whatever. We’re gonna blow this joint.
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
So soon?
Thank goodness.
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Yeah. We’ve done as much investigating as we could for now.
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
Do you have any ideas as to who caused this Mr. Dazai? This crime scene is… more elaborate…  than anything that I can imagine.
[DAZAI OSAMU]
I just might… Atsushi-kun I’ll be leaving you here. I want to do some further sleuthing.
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
Huh? You’re taking on more work on purpose, Mr. Dazai? That’s… new.
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Yep! I trust you can make it back to the Agency on your own and log the evidence for us At-su-shi! You are our star at documentation!
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
Wait–
[DAZAI OSAMU]
Bye now, Atsushi-kun!
[NAKAJIMA ATSUSHI]
There it is. I guess I never had a choice huh? I’ll see you tomorrow then, Mr. Dazai.
Mr. Dazai has been in and out of the office since Monday. I’m kind of worried he’s avoiding me, because I tried to speak with him and he just brushed past me. Maybe he’s just stressed from this case. With this job as a crime scene photographer, I’ve seen some truly horrific sights but I have to agree, there’s no way a human being could have caused this sort of brutality. The problem is, that it just makes no sense. I wonder how he’ll figure this out. In other, better news, Junichirou will be coming to the office after his school tomorrow. I want to see if he can help me fix my camera. It’s been really finicky since Monday, and I can’t figure out why. Maybe the internal components got a bit corrupted or something. In any case, I hope it’s not too difficult of a repair.
That’s all for today, then. See you around!
N. Atsushi
What's Your Favourite Scary Movie?
Tumblr media
Pairing: bang chan x reader, felix x reader Genre: horror, angst, fluff, based on the movie franchise 'Scream' Warnings: character death, blood, gore, threats, swearing, attempted murder Words: 5,424 Taglist: @alphadisaster
Jiwoo walked around her kitchen, making some popcorn so she could have a snack while watching a film. As soon as her popcorn was done, she grabbed the bag and put the popcorn into a bowl.
Before she could sit down, she got a phone call. She put the bowl down onto the kitchen surface and picked the phone up, answering the phone. “Hello?” she said, eating a piece of popcorn. “What’s your favourite scary movie?” was all that was said on the other end.
“Is this a prank call? Because if so, it’s not very funny”, Jiwoo said before hanging up the phone, putting it back on the stand. She grabbed the bowl of popcorn and sat down, but as soon as she sat down, the phone rang again. She got up and answered the phone, getting frustrated.
“What’s your favourite scary movie? And don’t bother putting the phone down this time”, the person said down the phone, making Jiwoo sigh out of frustration. “What do you want?” she asked, sounding more harsh than she intended to. “What film are you planning on watching?” That question creeped Jiwoo out because, how does the person know she was going to watch a film?
“Also, nice pyjamas”, now Jiwoo was definitely scared. She hung up the phone and put it down, grabbing a knife out of the knife block. That’s when she heard glass smashing, and she hid behind the counter. She was breathing really heavily, afraid of whoever was in her house. Well, her parents' house but they were away at the moment so she was home alone.
Faint footsteps could be heard as Jiwoo tried to keep quiet, but it was really hard since there was someone who had broken into the house. “Come out, come out wherever you are”, the person said, his voice distorted so his actual voice couldn’t be heard.
The footsteps got closer, and Jiwoo could see the top of the person's head over the kitchen counter. Well, she couldn’t see the person's actual head since they were wearing a mask. The person walked around the counter, and Jiwoo crawled away so she could stay hidden.
She soon found the chance to escape, running quickly towards the front door. She opened it, running out into the dark night. She didn’t get very far though as a knife was thrown at her back, hitting her right in the middle. She fell to the ground with a scream.
The knife was removed from her back and she was dragged by the ankle, her hands trying to grab onto something to stop her from being dragged. She was put on her back, the masked figure standing above her. “What do you want from me?” she screamed, tears streaming down her face.
“I don’t want anything. I just want to make you suffer after what you did to me”, the masked figure said and Jiwoo frowned, confused about what the person was on about. The masked figure held the axe in the air and struck her in the stomach, her screams echoing in the air.
Her parents arrived home a few hours later, their car stopping in front of the house. Her father got out of the car and was about to enter the house when he saw the broken window. He ran into the house to see if Jiwoo was still inside but he couldn’t find her anywhere. That’s when he heard his wife screaming his name.
He ran out of the house and ran to where his wife is, and that’s when he saw Jiwoo. She was hanging from a tree, her face bruised and pale. She was being hung from a rope, her clothes were bloody and she was holding a bloody knife.
After that night, everyone was warned to not go out at night at a certain time, and to always keep your doors and windows locked, and not to answer the phone, no matter who is ringing.
--------------------------------
“Hey, Chan”, Felix said as soon as he saw him. The freckled boy smiled at him, showing his pearly whites. He was about to get up to give the elder a hug but he couldn’t, realising you were still clinging onto his arm. “Hey don’t move, I’m comfy”, you said as you narrowed your eyes at Felix.
You and Felix are really close, he’s been your best friend for nearly 8 years now. Because of how close the two of you are, some people think you are a couple but you always tell them you’re just friends. Like yes, you love him but you love him as a best friend.
“Hey guys”, Chan said as he sat between Changbin and Minho. “Did you hear about what happened to Jiwoo? It’s awful”, Chan said as soon as he sat down. Everyone agreed as they all frowned, the atmosphere now heavy.
“I mean, yeah she wasn’t exactly the nicest person in the world but, she didn’t deserve what happened to her”, you said as you looked down at the table, Felix rubbing your arm. “She called me short once”, Changbin said, to which Hyunjin replied, “that’s because you are short, shorty”.
Changbin and Hyunjin started bickering, Jeongin laughing at them.”Guys stop, now’s not the time for this”, Chan said, making the two stop bickering. “Did you hear about the new rules? We shouldn’t go outside at night after a certain time, we should always make sure our doors and windows are locked and we shouldn’t answer the phone, no matter who is ringing”, Chan said, looking around to make sure everyone was listening to him.
Ever since Jiwoo was murdered, everyone has been really wary about going out by themselves or staying indoors by themselves, making sure that they had someone with them to keep safe.
“Chan, you dated her for some time, didn’t you?” Seungmin asked him, everyone looking at Chan. “I did for some time. But things got… complicated and I broke it off with her”, Chan said, and no one pushed him to talk about it.
The day went on as normal, but Chan was quiet for the remainder of the day. No one bothered him though, assuming he was still upset about Jiwoo’s death, so you didn’t question it.
Later that evening, you all went home, making sure to lock all your doors and shut all your windows. As soon as Minho got home, he fed his cats, gave them attention, and then made himself something to eat. All of a sudden, the phone goes, making him pick it up, putting it to his ear. All he heard was the sound of heavy breathing, so he just assumed it was a prank call and put the phone back on the stand. He completely forgot about the rule about not answering the phone, and he felt stupid.
A few seconds later, the phone went again, startling him. He answered it again, this time speaking into the phone. “Hello?” he said, sounding rather annoyed. “What’s your favourite scary movie?” was all that was said, confusing Minho. “Jokes on you, I don’t like scary movies”, Minho said and hung up the phone, tired of the person's bullshit.
He wasn’t expecting the phone to ring a third time, and he picked it up, screaming down the phone. He didn’t care about the ‘ignoring the phone’ rule at this point, just wanting the person to leave him alone.
“Leave me alone!” Minho shouted, starting to feel scared. “Buddy, you know you’re in danger after breaking the ‘not answering the phone’ rule”, the voice said, and Minho knew his life was in danger. He hung up the phone and ran to hide somewhere. That’s when he heard the sound of glass breaking and the sound of faint footsteps.
“Where are you?” the masked figure said, walking around the house. Minho’s cats ran up to them and started hissing and scratching. “Hey, get off me you dumb cat”, the masked figure said and that made Minho angry. He got up out of his hiding place and grabbed a knife. He charged at the masked figure but before he could hit them with the knife, the masked figure moved out of the way, making Minho trip over something.
The masked figure grabbed Minho, taking the knife off him and stabbed him in the shoulder, making him scream. He dragged Minho into a room, closing the door and locking it. The sound of stabbing could be heard as Minho’s cats continuously meowed and screamed, scared for their owner. “You’re a fucking traitor”, the masked figure said before slicing Minho’s throat open, blood staining his t-shirt.
--------------------------------
The moment you heard the news about Minho, you let out a scream of horror. No, this can’t be happening. This isn’t real. Minho can’t be dead. You refused to believe he was dead. Your heart sank the moment you were told, tears streaming down your face.
You were currently sitting on a couch between Felix and Hyunjin, holding a beer in your hand. You were at Felix’s house, resting your head against the back of the sofa. “Hey, where’s Jisung?” Seungmin asked as he walked into the living room holding a can of beer, taking a sip of it.
Not even a few minutes later, Jisung came running into the living room, panting. “Sorry I’m late”, he said as he tried catching his breath, his hands on his knees. “What happened to your leg?” Felix asked as he pointed at Jisung’s leg. There were scratches on his lower leg.
“Oh, uh, I was scratched by a cat”, he said, sounding rather unconvincing with his words. Nobody questioned it though as Jisung got himself a beer from the kitchen, opening the fridge.
“Who knows which one of us is going to be next. I don’t wanna die”, Changbin said as he downed his drink, crushing the can and throwing it in the bin. “Who knows who the killer is”, Chan suddenly said after a moment of silence, everyone’s focus now on Chan. “What do you mean?” Hyunjin asked, wondering what Chan was talking about.
“Minho has cats, right? And Jisung said he was scratched by a cat”, Chan said and everyone looked over at Jisung. Jisung scoffed in disbelief, he can’t believe Chan is accusing him of murdering Minho.
“Are you being for real? I didn’t kill Minho. Never in my entire fucking life would I ever lay a hand on him, let alone murder him. Also, these scratches on my leg? A cat scratched me on the way here and I had to run away from it”, Jisung tried explaining but Chan wasn’t having it. “Please, don’t lie, I know you killed him”, Chan said and Jisung lunged at him, inches away from his face.
“You better shut up unless you want a broken nose”, Jisung threatened, staring at Chan. There was so much tension in the air, it was starting to get uncomfortable. Chan muttered something under his breath, and Jisung must have heard it and didn’t like what he said, because he ended up punching him square in the face.
Blood was pouring out of Chan’s nose, and he was pretty sure it was now broken. Chan was about to lunge at Jisung but you stood in the middle so Chan couldn’t get to him. “Stop it, now. Minho was murdered and you two are acting like fucking morons. Grow up or get the fuck out, your choice”, you said, and Felix smiled at you for stopping them.
For the rest of the time you were at Felix’s house, Chan and Jisung avoided each other as much as possible. It was really awkward for the rest of you as the atmosphere was heavy and tense.
Chan had drunk one too many beers and he stumbled over towards where Jisung was sitting. Jisung looked up and saw Chan and rolled his eyes, waiting for yet another earful from him. “Hey Jisung, what’s your favourite scary movie?” was all he said, his words slurring. Jisung just looked up at him with confusion, wondering why he asked such a question.
“Uhm, I don’t know, Halloween I guess?” he replied, though he only said Halloween because it was the first film he thought of at that moment. He doesn’t actually have a favourite scary movie, he’s not really a fan of them. He only said that to get Chan off his back.
Chan didn’t say anything else and turned around and walked away. Jisung was really perplexed about what just happened, but he tried to forget it. Jisung wanted to stay longer but his night had been ruined so he decided to go home, wanting to forget about everything that’s happened. He just lost his best friend, his soulmate, and Chan accused him of killing him? What kind of sick fuck would do that?
As soon as Jisung got home, he locked his front door and slid down against it, sitting on the floor. He cried and cried for what felt like hours, just sitting on the floor and not bothering to move. He suddenly felt something nudge his leg, and looked down to see his dog, Dareumi. Jisung picked her up and held her, Dareumi licking his tears away.
After what felt like hours, Jisung got up and carried Dareumi with him. He went to his room, placed Dareumi on his bed and got changed out of his clothes and into some pyjamas. He put on a pair of checkered pyjama pants and a plain black t-shirt. He did his usual night time routine, washing his face and brushing his teeth, and then proceeded to get into bed.
As soon as he got into bed, the phone started ringing, making Dareumi jump. Jisung held Dareumi close to him, stroking her to calm her down. The phone kept ringing as Jisung started getting scared. He tried covering his ears to block the noise out but it didn’t work. After a while, the phone stopped ringing and Jisung sighed out of relief.
He got himself comfortable under his covers, getting ready to fall asleep when the phone started ringing a second time. He got out of bed and left his room, making his way towards where the phone is. He grabbed the phone and threw it against the wall, breaking it. He watched as it smashed into pieces, small fragments of plastic flying everywhere. He went back to bed, getting under the covers. Dareumi made herself comfortable on Jisung’s bed, curling into a ball and falling asleep.
--------------------------------
Jisung woke up, sun rays beaming in through the crack in the curtains. He got up and rubbed his eyes, yawning as he stretched his legs and arms. His feet pattered against the floor, leaving his room.
Dareumi followed behind him, her little legs bouncing up and down off the ground. The white little fluff ball barked, making Jisung laugh. “Ok, ok, I’m sorting your breakfast out now”, he said, putting dog food in a bowl and setting it down on the floor, as well as a bowl full of water. Jisung didn't have lessons until later that day so he was probably going to play video games with Felix. Well, after having another crying session.
After about 30 minutes of crying on the sofa, there was a sudden knock on the door. Jisung wiped his eyes and got up, walking towards the door. He looked out of the peephole to try and see if he could see who was out there, but he couldn’t find anyone. Confused, he opened the door, poking his head out. There was no one around, so he thought someone was messing with him or he was hearing things.
He closed the door and turned around but as soon as he did, he came face to face with a masked figure. The masked figure stabbed Jisung in the shoulder, earning a scream of pain from him. He was pushed against a wall, the side of his head hitting it.
The both of them fought, Jisung trying to stop them from stabbing him again. Blood was dripping down his body, soaking his t-shirt. Dareumi heard fighting so she ran from her food bowl and saw her owner getting attacked, so she bit the masked figure in the leg, making them yell. They fell to the ground, holding their leg as they groaned in pain. That gave Jisung the chance to pick up Dareumi and run out of his house, running as far as he could. Jisung felt himself getting faint, his legs about to collapse under him but before he could fall to the ground, he felt someone catch him, and he passed out in their arms.
--------------------------------
Jisung woke up to a bright light hovering over him, squinting his eyes to adjust to the bright light. He tried sitting up but there was pain in his shoulder, making him wince. He felt movement in the chair next to his bed, startling him. He looked to the side and saw Felix, who had a worried expression on his face.
“Oh my god, you’re awake”, Felix said as he sat forward, a slight smile forming on his face. “You weren’t answering your phone so I knew something was wrong, and when I was walking towards your house, I saw you running, holding Dareumi, and that’s when you collapsed”, Felix said, explaining to him about what happened.
“Where’s Dareumi?” Jisung asked, panicking. “Don’t worry, Dareumi is fine. She’s being looked after by a nice neighbour”, Felix said, reassuring Jisung. Jisung let out a sigh of relief, sitting up properly on the bed.
The door opened, revealing Hyunjin, Seungmin and Jeongin. Jeongin opened his jacket and brought out a bunch of snacks as a grin formed on his face, giving them to Jisung. Jeongin knew the hospital food wasn’t great so he went to the convenience store on the way to the hospital.
Jisung noticed Hyunjin was limping a little, making him suspicious. “Hyunjin, what happened to you? You’re limping”, Jisung asked as he raised his eyebrow slightly. “Uhhhh, I was bit? It’s no big deal though, it’s only a small bite”, he said as he scratched the back of his neck. Jisung didn’t say anything else as the others started a conversation.
While they were talking, you, Bang Chan and Changbin were sitting outside, waiting their turn to see Jisung. You were sitting next to Chan, your legs touching. Changbin was sitting opposite you, playing with his fingers. “I hope Jisung is going to be ok”, you said to no one in particular, Changbin agreeing with you. Chan didn’t say anything though. You thought he was either deep in thought or just didn’t know what to say.
Without thinking, you rested your head on Chan’s shoulder, startling him. He realised it was you leaning on him so he rested his head on top of yours, holding your hand with his big one. Chan could smell your shampoo, which was a fruity tropical scent.
Suddenly, you heard laughing coming from Jisung’s room, and you knew Jisung was going to be ok.
--------------------------------
“Fuck! Why didn’t the bastard just bleed out and die?! If that stupid dog didn’t bite me, I would have killed him”
--------------------------------
The moment Jisung left the hospital, he knew he had to confront Hyunjin. Did Hyunjin really try to kill him? He had to find out for himself.
“Hey, Hyunjin”, Jisung said the moment he saw him. Hyunjin sat opposite him, holding a cup of coffee in his hand. “What did you want to talk about? You sounded very serious on the phone”, Hyunjin said, taking a sip of his coffee.
Jisung took a deep breath and hesitated to speak up. He had to, though, if he wanted to find who the killer was. “Did you stab me?” Jisung said, making Hyunjin’s eyes widen. He scoffed at the question, wondering what the hell Jisung was talking about. “Why would I stab one of my friends?” Hyunjin asked in disbelief.
“You said you were bitten, and the masked person who stabbed me was bitten by Dareumi”, Jisung explained and Hyunjin sighed. “I was bitten by my aunt's dog because I accidentally annoyed him a bit too much and he nipped my leg. I promise you, I’m telling you the truth. I’m not the one who stabbed you, or am I the masked killer”, Hyunjin said and Jisung sat back in his chair, feeling stupid for assuming Hyunjin was the killer.
Suddenly there was the sound of laughter coming from the other end of the coffee shop, and Jisung saw you and Chan sitting opposite each other, holding hands. Since when did you and Chan have feelings for each other? Jisung thought you and Felix were secretly dating.
You laughed at something Chan said, tucking a piece of hair behind your ear. You sipped on your coffee, the vanilla taste hitting your taste buds. You had a question for Chan but you were too scared to ask. Chan knew there was something wrong just by looking at your face.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Is there something on your mind?” he asked, rubbing his thumb over your hand. “Do you think the killer is still out there? I mean, they tried to kill Jisung. We already lost Minho, I don’t want to lose any more friends”, you said, looking down at your intertwined hands. Chan made a face of annoyance which you didn’t see, fortunately to him.
“Hey, don’t worry, I’ll protect you. I’ll make sure no one, and I mean no one, hurts you”, Chan said as he smiled at you. You smiled back at him, touched by his kind words. You finished your coffee, standing up to put your now empty coffee cup in the bin. On your way back to your table, you saw Jisung and Hyunjin sitting in the corner of the coffee shop and you walked over to them.
While you were talking to them, Chan was still sitting down drinking his coffee. He watched as you laughed along with the two, and he frowned. He didn’t like seeing you be happy with anyone else, he wanted to be the only person who can make you happy. He stood up, a bit too quickly and harshly, knocking the chair over. Everyone in the coffee shop looked at Chan, and he left the coffee shop, running out. You watched as he ran away, and you wanted to chase after him but you didn’t want to accidentally anger Chan just in case he was in a mood.
Chan ran into an alleyway, leaning against the brick wall. He rested his forehead against the brick, his hands balled into fists. He started hitting the wall lightly, until the hits got rougher and harsher. The brick cut into the flesh, breaking away the skin, causing blood to appear.
He yelled out of frustration, hitting the brick one last time before moving away from it, walking out of the alleyway. He saw you walking out of the coffee shop with Hyunjin and Jisung, seeing you playfully hit Hyunjin at something he said. “I’ll make sure that no one can hurt you, y/n, my love”, Chan said as he smiled to himself.
--------------------------------
You were at Felix’s house, sitting next to him as the two of you played video games. You were currently losing against him, Felix laughing as he raced towards the finish line. You decided to distract him by sitting on his lap, startling him and almost dropping his controller. That gave you the chance to race by him, crossing the finish line.
“YAY I WIN”, you shouted, doing your celebratory dance. You always sit on Felix’s lap so why does it make him feel different this time? While you continued doing your celebratory dance, Felix was lost in thought.
You saw Felix lost in thought and that’s when you realise just how attractive and beautiful he was. His freckles, his pink plump lips, his cute nose. Wait, Felix is your best friend, which he has been for years, why are you thinking about him like that? You can’t possibly like him, can you? Besides, you and Chan kind of have a thing going. Was it really a serious thing though? Or was it just a distraction to take your mind off Felix when in reality, you were actually in love with your best friend? Probably.
You poked Felix’s cheek, startling him. You laughed at his expression, he looked like a lost puppy. “You were lost in thought so I decided to poke your cheek”, you said, explaining yourself.
Suddenly, the phone rang and you and Felix looked at each other. It was dark outside and you remembered the rule to not answer the phone after a certain time. The phone kept ringing after a couple of minutes, and you and Felix were scared.
You decided to go over to the phone, picking it up and putting it up to your ear. You knew you shouldn’t have but your curiosity got the best of you. “H-hello?” you said into the phone. All you heard was the sound of breathing, and then a quiet voice.
“y/n?” it was Chan, and he sounded… upset? “Chan, are you okay? What’s wrong?” you asked, wondering why he was calling at this hour of the night. “Oh, I just wanted to make sure you’re ok because I went to your house but you weren’t there”, Chan said and that made you smile.
“Don’t worry about me, I’m fine. I’m actually at Felix’s house”, you said and you didn’t see the change in expression on Chan’s face. “Oh, you’re at Felix’s? Well, can you pass the phone over to him?” he asked and you didn’t think much of it, passing the phone to him. Felix grabbed the phone and put it up to his ear, expecting Chan to talk to him as normal. But what Chan said made Felix hang up the phone, throwing the phone across the room, startling you.
“Hey Felix, what’s your favourite scary movie?”
There was a knock at the door, and you jumped at the sound. You were about to go and answer the door when Felix stopped you, holding your arm. “Don’t. Go and hide somewhere, I’ll answer the door”, Felix said and you were about to argue when you saw the look on his face. You obeyed and ran to his room, closing the door.
Felix walked slowly to the door, hearing another knock on the door. He grabbed the door handle, opening the door slowly. He opened the door fully and to his surprise, there was no one there. Furrowing his brows, he closed the door and turned around. That’s when he heard glass breaking and Felix ran to grab something to use as a weapon.
He grabbed a baseball bat, getting ready to swing as he walked towards where the sound came from. He walked through the house, looking in different rooms. Suddenly, he felt something hit the back of his head, knocking him to the ground. He groaned in pain, moving his hand to the back of his head and felt wetness. He looked at his hand and realised it was blood.
Felix was grabbed by the back of his t-shirt, being dragged into a room. He yelled for the person to get off him, trying to hit the person but he couldn’t. You heard Felix’s yells, and you ran out of his room, not before grabbing something. You ran to where the sounds were coming from and that’s when you saw a masked figure.
You jumped onto the person’s back, making them drop Felix. You didn’t know the masked figure was holding a knife though, the person dropping the blade as it hit Felix’s leg, making his scream.
The masked figure tried getting you off them, slamming you into the wall. They ended up flipping you over, dropping you onto the ground. The masked figure went back over to Felix, climbing on top of him. He started hitting Felix across the face and slamming his head into the floor.
Felix tried grabbing the mask, his hands flailing above him. The masked figure grabbed one of Felix’s hands, twisting his wrist, making him cry out in pain. Tears started streaming down Felix’s face, his vision getting blurry. Luckily Felix’s other hand was free, and he managed to grab the mask. He ripped it off the person and his nightmare came true. The person under the mask, and the person who killed Minho and tried to kill Jisung was his friend, Bang Chan.
“You fucking murderer! You killed Minho, you sick bastard”, Felix snapped, anger taking over him. All Chan did was laugh. “Minho was a traitor. He’s the person Jiwoo cheated on me with.. And I tried to kill Jisung because he broke my fucking nose. Now I’m going to kill you too, because you’re in love with y/n when she’s mine and only mine”, Chan said and wrapped his hands around Felix’s throat.
Felix gasped for air, hitting Chan’s hands to try and get him off him. He kicked his legs out, struggling under him. He felt himself becoming unconscious, and he was worried he was going to die. He didn’t want to die. He wanted to live until he was old and wrinkly, and had kids of his own.
His eyes started closing, his struggling started to become faint. Suddenly, Chan felt a sharp blow to the back of his head, making him fall off of Felix. Felix started coughing, holding his throat. He looked up and saw you, who was holding a broken vase. You had smashed the vase over Chan’s head.
You helped Felix off the ground, holding his hand. You ran out of the house, running as far away from Chan as possible. Felix still had the knife in his leg, and he pulled it out with a groan, keeping the knife so he could use it in case Chan ran after them.
“y/n, honey, don’t fucking run away from me”, you heard from behind you. You didn’t want to turn around, scared that you would see Chan getting close to you. You didn’t let go of Felix’s hand, even if your hand was getting sweaty.
You didn’t think as you screamed at the top of your lungs, not caring if it strains your throat. “Help! There’s a murderer chasing us”, you screamed, hoping someone would help you. Suddenly, it started pouring down with rain, drenching you. Felix felt himself falling, but luckily you caught him, draping his arm over your shoulder. You let him lean on you for support, his leg still bleeding.
By some miracle, you heard sirens in the distance, red and blue lights in the darkness. The sirens got closer and closer, a police car coming up behind you. You and Felix stopped running, walking backwards away from Chan. “I have you now”, Chan said as he went to grab you but before he could, a gun went off, hitting him in the shoulder.
He turned around and saw who shot him. He wasn’t expecting to see Changin, an angry expression on his face. “Chan, you’re under arrest for murder now get on the fucking ground”, he ordered and Chan got on the ground, his hands in the air. You silently thanked Changbin, smiling at him. You knew he was training to be a police officer but you didn’t realise that he was able to shoot a gun.
Chan was arrested and you all got on with your lives. Jisung went to Minho’s grave every week, on the same day at the same time, bringing Minho his favourite flowers, which were daisies. You and Felix got together after realising your feelings for each other, and Hyunjin and Changbin still bicker with each other. And Seungmin and Jeongin? Well, they’re still Seungmin and Jeongin, never separating even for a minute.
Jisung had moved into Minho’s parents house since he didn’t feel safe living in his house anymore, even though Chan was arrested, he just wanted to be around Minho’s family. It would also give them the chance to get closer to each other, looking after each other and give one another emotional support.
You might have lost a friend who means a lot to you, and lost someone who you thought was your friend but turned out to be a murderer, but you also gained a lover, who is also your best friend.
chapter ten: everybody's a suspect
words: 942 // warnings: cursing, alcohol consumption, discussions of sex and drugs
OFFICIAL GHOSTFACE KILLCOUNT: 006
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a/n: this is a proper shitty little filler, sorry guys :(
Tumblr media
once everyone had got their belongings from their respective cars - all being quick to call dibs on a bedroom, (y/n) choosing changbin’s elder sister’s room - they decided to just have a nice and easy night. they wanted to order in some food, stick on a movie and just switch off from the world, which was nice and much needed. changbin’s parents were even nice enough to have a food shopping delivery to the house within a few hours of them being their.
(y/n) decided to take a nap by mid-afternoon, the exhaustion of the past week catching up with her all at once. and changbin’s sister’s room was cozy, comfortable. where the older seo sibling had moved abroad to get her doctorate, she was rarely in the family home and her room had almost a hotel-vibe to it. she’d spoken to changbin’s sister earlier in the day too, the older girls giving her express permission - in fact, encouragement - to use or steal any of her belongings at the home that she might need.
amazingly, (y/n) managed to sleep peacefully until early evening, when seungmin came and woke her up for dinner. the guys had decided to get in some fried chicken and watch an old jamie lee curtis movie while all cuddled up on the seo’s unusually massive sofa. (y/n) placed herself next to felix, hyunjin quick to join her other side, and she felt her heart race increase being sandwiched between the two males who both held very special places in her heart.
she tuned out most the night, having known the boys long enough to know the correct times to nod her head and give a hum, or a simple “yeah”, while they were telling a story. she felt like she could hear her heartbeat in his ears, the organ jumping up into her throat everytime felix’s hand brushed her skin, or hyunjin rubbed her shoulder comfortingly.
it was silly, she was best friends with these guys, so why were simple actions making her clench her thighs together, a dampness forming between her legs? no matter how hard she tried to focus on the movie - now on halloween 4: the return of michael myers - she couldn’t help but be hyperfocused on everything surrounding her.
it was only when seungmin and jisung started bickering again that she was pulled from her almost hypnosis, the laughter of the other boys around her filling her ears.
“seriously, jisung, there is no way following some stupid fucking rules can guarantee someone’s survival, even in a fucking movie. its so dumb.” seungmin was almost hysterical, unable to grasp how jisung was so serious about the topic.
over the fits of laughter, which (y/n) couldn’t help herself from joining in on - it was contagious, and jisung’s serious face was too much to bare - she managed to utter out a single question.
“what rules?”
jisung quickly paused the movie, the action met with groans from various parts of the couch, but shushed them down with an obscenely shocked expression on his face.
“you– you don’t know the rules? do none of you know the rules?”
it was amusing to watch, the way jisung’s beer sloshed in the bottle as he accusingly pointed around the room. (y/n) couldn’t help the way she curled into hyunjin’s side, her giggles becoming uncontrollable.
“none of you know the damn rules! holy shit, you’re such amateurs!” he exclaimed, eyes wider than they had ever been before.
“fucking hell, have an aneurysm, why don’t ya?” changbin snickered, carefully dodging the throw cushion that jisung launched at him in response.
“guys, come on. there are certain rules one must abide by to successfully survive a horror movie!”
the rest of the room slowly went quiet, as jisung’s enthusiasm rose. they knew one they got him on a tangent there was no stopping him, especially when he had alcohol in his system. there was no stopping him now, so they may as well indulge in how loud and annoying he was about to become.
“for example; you can never have sex during the course of the movie - the final girl is always a virgin, and innumerable victims are killed after finally indulging in a cheeky fuck.”
he seemed so proud of himself for capturing the undivided attention of everyone in the room, but that was quickly broken when minho and hyunjin started hooting out in laughter. everyone else soon joined in, seungmin dramatically falling across the laps of everyone on the couch.
“me and minho fuck at least once a day! we’re deaaaaaaad–!”
“you?! we’re all dead! michael myers come and take us now!” (y/n) chimed in, her giggles almost drowning out her words.
it was only when jisung began shushing everyone and stomping his foot like a child that he got their attention again, dutifully informing them there was two more rules to go yet.
“secondly, you can’t.. you can’t drink,” he cried out, tapping on the bottle in his hand. “or do drugs! its the whole innocence scale!”
“and finally, never, under any circumstances, ever say ‘i’ll be right back’. because you won’t be back. famous last words, you know? you’ll probably be the next victim.”
he looked so proud and accomplished that no one even noticed hyunjin had got off the couch and headed towards the kitchen.
“hey, i’m getting another beer. you want one?” he called out, to which jisung shrugged him off with a please, and a devilish smirk grew on hyunjin’s face. “okay. i’ll be right back!” he cackled before skipping off, leaving jisung in shock and the whole room in hysterics.
highschool au fem skk doodle!!
fem soukoku has been on my mind ... they're just so cute and fluffy ghrhrgr!!!!
under the cut are headcanons/backstory ?? i didn't mean to write this much but i got carried away </3
i see dazai as someone with shit posture because they're insecure about how lanky they look compared to the other people in class, even if she still teases chuuya for being short. she also wears opaque black stockings to hide her legs, and keeps her skirt long. she doesn't like how her hair is, but only chops it all off when she leaves for college. she's Very unpopular, but she doesn't really care. she prefers it that way, though she could do without the gossiping.
chuuya's a jock . she started growing her hair out at the start of highschool, and is the best student in sports in her class. she hates wearing her blazer, finding it restricting, even in winter. she tries to sneakily make her skirt shorter because she thinks it looks cooler, but she doesn't like that it limits how much she can do exercise wise (she likes running around and moving a lot). she's popular with her class, more so with the guys, both for her appearance and skills and for being kind to everyone despite her short temper.
dazai and chuuya are an unlikely duo- no one really gets why they hang out with one another so often. even though it seems like they hated each other at first, they're pretty much attached to the hip, and are very protective over one another. they walk home together, and dazai sleeps over at chuuya's whenever she can.
chuuya found dazai weird and rude at first, but now she's more fond of them, she would never admit that, though. she's the reason why dazai's hair hasn't devolved into a birds nest.
dazai found chuuya annoying and naive at first. ... she still finds her annoying. in an affectionate way. she likes to tease her to hear her roll her eyes, and seeing her face scrunch up.
there's more but i don't want to write too much ... and i haven't developed them completely yet JSHDB these are just doodles i did at college
THANK U FOR READING :3 don't mind typos i don't feel like reading it over SJHBDAJ
Killer goes by Shiv while Horror goes by Axe based on their main weapons. Dust goes by Lav, short for Lavender. Nightmare still uses the same name, but the boys always call him Night :]
clothing notes (and extras):
Shiv is the one with the most fashion sense, but even he's been lazy and decided to just walk around wearing a funny t-shirt and shorts sometimes. Definitely the one who gets everyone clothes during supply runs (yes he's fashion besties with plum). Likes clothes with many pockets for storage, too! Whether that's got snacks or daggers in them, you'll just have to dig around yourself /lh
Axe wears lumberjack/farmer-esque clothing to hint at his connection to Farmtale! Farmtale is protected by Nightmare (in secret) as it harbors the last of Horrortale's survivors— the AU was too corrupted to sustain itself— while also being the Crescents' main food supply. The patched jeans and sleeveless vest are actually gifts from the Farm brothers. Them and Axe (+ Axe's brother, Oak) are very close, subsequently making Farmtale a second home to the Crescents.
Lav prefers oversized clothing and probably likes to use weighted blankets to ground himself. Shiv dresses him up most, and Lav just tells him to get dark/neutral clothes with purple accents for him. It feels nice to be taken care of. Usually wears a beanie/cap when he’s at home and is without his hood (has the shortest tail out of the trio, hides it well).
Night prefers fancy-casual because he knows how it feels to wear clothes that didn't fit/weren't comfy for him (still has his old crown, somewhere..). Definitely wears a nightrobe at home too. Technically the necklace is a vial of his own negativity(?) extracted by Sci. I wanted to make it so that everyone else has that on certain charms/pendants infused with that same negativity to act as a hidden tracker for Night to pinpoint where his boys are (and his own necklace could act as an emergency booster if Night gets too weak)
