Thinking about Eddie with the kids playing DnD after school at the aforementioned building and getting roped into a game of Truth or Dare even though he’s aware playing a game other than DnD with some nosy kids isn’t a very smart thing to do in the first place.

But Jeff and Gareth are pretty convincing, so there’s that too. Eddie just can’t say no to free lunch for a whole week, now can he? What harm could a game of Truth or Dare do anyways, right?

In hindsight, Eddie should’ve known the universe isn’t going easy on him.

“Eddie, Truth or Dare?” Dustin asks with a huge grin on his face.

That kid is just way too happy about the fact Eddie is participating. It’s a little suspicious.

“Well, I’m no quitter, sooo…” Eddie is stretching the last word, punctuating his decision with a flat hand thumped down on the wooden table, “Dare it is.”

Dustin giggles all excited. “You have to kiss the first person who enters this room on the mouth!”

A chorus of ‘ewww’ and evil laughs with fingers pointing in his direction goes through the round.

Eddie smirks before he shrugs. “Alright, yeah”, he says, fully aware no one will come through these doors since it’s well past school time and no adults are around whatsoever, “If someone walks in here, I’ll do it.” He emphasizes the ‘if’ with a satisfied grin.

Dustin cocks his head, looks at the watch on his wrist and says loud, “three… two… one-“

Suddenly the door bursts open.

“Henderson! What the hell man!? I told you to be outside on time!” Steve’s standing in his usual mom pose, shooting daggers at the kids.

Dustin sighs happily, “always reliable”, before his gaze shifts from Steve to Eddie, still grinning. “No quitter, right, Eddie?”

Eddie sits frozen in his chair, looking at Steve and can’t believe his (bad) luck. He looks at Dustin. “You little shit! You planned this!?” Eddie whisper-shouts accusingly.

Dustin just shrugs triumphantly and makes some gestures for Eddie to get moving.

Eddie gets up abruptly, sending the chair flying back with an uncomfortable screeching sound and more or less stomps around the table, over to where Steve stands.

Now it’s Steve who’s frozen, eyebrows pinching together. “Uh, hey man, you good?” He’s clearly lost of what’s going on.

Eddie wants to get it over with, like ripping off a bandaid and already braces himself to be punched in the face or shoved away. Eddie halts right in front of Steve, who put his hands for safety in front of him, confused as hell.

“Whow, Eddie, wha-“

Eddie quickly grabs Steve by the neck as gently as possible, taking in the confused brown eyes Steve gives him.

“Don’t hate me for this, Big Boy”, he breathes out before leaning in, thinking ‘fuck it’, since it could be his last time with Steve ever again, maybe even losing him as a friend, and seals both of their lips in a soft kiss. Eddie deepens the unresponsive kiss by pressing harder into him, squeezing his own eyes shut in fear of a fist to his face.

To his surprise Steve let’s out a little sound and kisses back-

No wait, what!?

Eddie feels how Steve grabs onto his vest and pulls him closer, licking into the metalhead’s mouth. It was Eddie’s turn now to make a surprising sound, practically whimpering.

When they break apart both of them look flushed, staring into each other’s eyes, completely stunned.

Loud cheering and a chorus of “Fucking finally!” erupts behind them.

Eddie didn’t know if he should be angry with Dustin or relieved the kiss went better than he could’ve ever imagine.

Greetings, anon! I'm so glad you love my writing, that's very sweet of you! Here is your request, vague spoilers for S4 in character names and such. I hope you enjoy!

Billy is aware of Munson in the off-hand way he’s aware of most of the people he goes to high school with. He knows the guy is a super-senior and that he hangs out with a bunch of nerds. Some of whom also hang out with Harrington, which seriously cramps Billy’s style. But his biggest problem with the guy is that he gets along with Steve. Too well. 

Billy’s not worried that Munson is going to replace him. (Okay, he’s a little worried about that). But Munson and Steve just seem to get each other sometimes. Which is strange because sometimes it sounds like they’re having a conversation in two different languages. By the end, they’re both usually grinning though so Billy figures it makes sense to them. 

The other thing is, the thing that makes Billy feel like a real piece of shit is that Munson has threatened Steve too. But Steve doesn’t flinch when Eddie touches him, not like he would the first couple of weeks after their fight. The one where Billy tried to kill him. 

Billy hadn’t been there for the actual threat, which is good because he might have actually killed Munson. But from what Henderson has said, it wasn’t sunshine and rainbows or Eddie immediately trusting Steve. And Billy knows they have mutual trauma or something, but Billy has mutual trauma with Steve too. For one, Steve saved him from the Upside Down. And two, well, they have sex sometimes. So that has to count for something. 

After Billy’s mom left him with Neil and Neil got remarried, Billy started to feel like a puzzle piece. He was part of the family, but also not, like he didn’t quite fit. He knows that’s where some of his anger has stemmed from, feeling like his father was trying to replace him before he was even out of the house. And now, he feels like Steve is doing it too.

Eddie already comes pre approved by Steve’s group of kids because he plays their role playing game with them. Billy is approved by Max and Steve, tentatively by Dustin, sometimes by Lucas, and never by Mike. He’s not certain where the junior Byers stands, but his ticket to the group is tenuous at best. Which usually doesn’t bother him, but it does when he feels like he’s being forced out. 

Now, Billy doesn’t know what the nature of Steve’s relationship with Eddie actually is. He doesn’t know if Eddie likes guys like that at all or if Steve has even told him that he’s bi, but Billy’s trust doesn’t come easily. He just sees Eddie and Steve with their jokes and their easy camaraderie and Billy knows it’s never been that easy for him and Steve. 

Steve tends to host get-togethers for their group the most. His house has the space and lacks the parental figures who will ask complicated questions. And after Billy came back, he was adamant of never stepping foot in the Wheelers’ house again. So it’s Steve’s these days. Which is cool by Billy, that means he can usually crash after instead of having to head back to the trailer with Max. 

But today, Eddie’s already there, drinking a beer with Steve, laughing about something. Billy’s heart falls through his stomach, straight down to his feet. It’s official, Munson is replacing Billy as Steve’s second best friend because Billy’s adult enough to admit that Robin is his first best friend. And he feels childish and stupid for how his heart breaks about it. 

Max pushes past him to get the best seat at their dungeon table or whatever and Billy clears his throat to announce his presence. 

Steve turns and gives him a megawatt smile, lifting his beer in greeting. “Billy! Hey man, grab a beer and come join us!”

Eddie sticks his tongue out playfully and lifts a baggie of weed. 

Billy swallows back the hurt and heads for the fridge. It’s fine. Munson probably doesn’t want to fuck Steve so Billy can settle for getting to see him naked. He pulls out a beer, cracking the top and taking a long sip. It settles warm in his gut as he joins Eddie and Steve in the living room. 

“Okay, so once I finish with the kids, I have an ounce for us to split, no need to throw in. Oh and while I’m gone, I brought that Scorpions album Steve wanted to check out,” Munson explains, giving Billy a smile. 

Billy settles on the other side of Steve so he’s in the middle. He nods a little, sipping his beer. “Didn’t know you were into Scorpions, Harrington.”

Steve grins ruefully and shrugs. “Well, when two of my friends can’t shut up about them, I gotta do something, huh?”

Eddie drains his beer and crushes the can as he gets up. “I’ve taught you well,” he teases with a dramatic bow. “I’ll see you losers later, don’t have too much fun without me!”

Eddie bounds down to the basement where the kids play and Steve shakes his head with a grin. “He’s crazy, but like fun crazy, you know?”

Billy nods, drinking his beer faster than he should. It’s the fancy shit, with a high alcohol content because Steve is still bougie. He goes to get a second, spending another moment wallowing in his self loathing. The kids call Billy crazy, but never fun crazy. 

When he returns, Steve has the Scorpions album playing from his sound system. He’s bobbing his head along to the beat and he grins up at Billy. “You seem to be in a bad mood, what’s up, man?”

Billy just shrugs, drinking his beer. There’s nothing to say, he just has to get over it and take what he can get. “Just a long day, man.”

Steve scoots a little closer and nudges Billy with his foot. “You’re drinking that beer like it was. C’mon, tell me about it.”

Billy shakes his head, looking down at the label. It’s already started peeling on one corner, he picks at it a little more. “Nothing. Don’t worry about it.”

Steve sips his beer and lets a few songs play. He can be good like that, giving space where it’s needed, distraction when it’s needed. It’s probably part of the reason Billy just can’t let him go. 

But Billy gets two beers deep and his tolerance is not what it once was, so he rolls his head along the back of the couch to look at Steve. “S’just fucked up, pretty boy.”

Steve furrows his brow and looks up at Billy. “What’s fucked up?”

“Just- Munson and you, you know? I thought we were friends but now you’re hanging out with him all the time and it just…it sucks,” Billy mutters, lifting his beer for the last swallow. 

Steve frowns a little and looks down, blinking hard. “We are friends, Billy. Eddie and I have just had a lot to talk about.”

Billy sits up more, his sadness mixing with anger and turning into messy irritation. “And I couldn’t know what you’re talking about? I can’t be part of it?”

“What? No it’s not that! It’s- nevermind, sorry for making you feel left out, blondie.” Steve grins, trying to get Billy to perk up with the nickname. 

Billy just rolls his eyes and shoves to his feet. “You know, maybe I should just walk home, I know when I’m not wanted.”

Steve makes a grab for him, shaking his head hurriedly. “No, Billy, sit down, I’ll tell you what we’ve been talking about.”

Billy stops for a moment, but he’s not strong enough to resist Steve. Not really. He nods and sits back down, looking at Steve expectantly. Get it out in the open, open the wound so it can heal. 

Steve takes a deep breath and holds out his hands. “Okay, look, I know you say I’m terrible at giving girl advice, but Eddie came to me first. Because he likes Chrissy and since she broke up with Jason, he’s thought about asking her out. So I said I could help him out with some ideas and we got to talking.”

“And I couldn’t be part of that because…?”

Steve flushes a little and looks skyward at the crown molding of his ceiling. “Well because in the process of talking about who he likes, we kind of got into who I like. And Eddie’sbeencoachingmeonmetalmusic.”

“What?” Billy asks because Steve mumbles a lot. 

Steve blows out a long breath. “Eddie has been teaching me about metal music or rock or anything like that so I can appreciate your music taste more.”

Billy furrows his brow, looking over at Steve. “Why?”

“Because! Because I wanted to make sure that I could share some of your interests.”

Billy shakes his head slowly. “I don’t understand.”

“Eddie likes Chrissy and I like…” Steve gestures to Billy. 

It takes a moment for his inebriated brain to catch up. “Me?”

“Bingo!” Steve points a finger at him and laughs nervously. “God, it seems so stupid now.”

Billy feels foolish and a little self-centered at that, but he does his best to let go of the sadness and feelings of betrayal. Because Steve is a dork who had to go to someone else to learn about the music Billy likes. So he could be prepared the next time Billy makes him a mixtape. 

“It’s not stupid,” Billy tells him, when enough time has passed for Steve to start squirming. “I feel stupid for getting jealous of Munson. Dude doesn’t even have a conditioner routine.”

“I know! I told him that’s step one of asking Chrissy out, but he doesn’t believe me.”

“That’s why you needed to involve me,” Billy drawls, spreading his arms confidently. 

Steve laughs a little and scoots closer. “Yeah, yeah, I know you’re the authority on picking up chicks.”

Billy grins at him, licking his lower lip. “And dudes apparently since you’re smitten with me.”

“And dudes,” Steve agrees, leaning in to kiss Billy. 

When Eddie makes his way back to the living room later, Steve is still pressing lazy kisses to Billy’s skin and Billy has his shirt unbuttoned. Eddie grins and holds up the weed. 

“Celebratory smokes on me!” He cries and mimes playing guitar. 

Steve sits up and mimes playing the drums and Billy just rolls his eyes. Dorks.

summary : so what if it was a stupid fake relationship in a stupid game? knowing he couldn’t stomaching his lover with someone else even in a fake world was enough motivation to hijack her stream.

a/n : it's always wonderful to hear ! jealous schlatt is honestly one of my favourite things in this world, it fits with my own hc's of his character being insecure with his relationship; and his undying love and yearn to show off the most gorgeous thing in his life.

Schlatt was always a believer in privacy; he hated when other people harassed him to know his business. And yet, there was one personal aspect of his life he felt the urge to always overshare; his beloved wife. Perhaps it stemmed from his mere denial that he could ever land such a woman, one of strong will, refreshing sense of humour, and looks that could instantly have him on his knees. It was more likely that he felt the need to assert and remind everyone in the damn world who owned his pretty girl's heart, not to say she didn't have his over lock and key either.

She made numerous appearances on stream, and having been a guest in every podcast he owned while also appearing on others alongside him. And yet for a lot of their careers it was just that: appearances. They each had their own friend group that they interacted with and made content with, hardcore fans would know, but newcomers or part-time viewers could easily not know of her marriage to the other big Internet personality. It wasn't that they were ashamed to show off each other to viewers, every other tweet or post from either would be a photo of their lover usually in candid photos. It was just that marriage can feel suffocating, draining even when you see the same person all the time at all hours of the day; not to say that either of them regretted it.

They both needed time to be their own person and not just 'that one streamer's husband/wife', this was their way of keeping their relationship outside of work. And it generally went pretty smoothly, schedules needed to be rearranged for it to work, but in the end everything worked out. Or at least it should have. Although the fact was they both discussed their big projects amongst each other, not everything tended to get mentioned; likely because there was just so much to talk to and one could only talk about work for so long. This happened on Y/n's part, with so many things she balanced in her online career, it was bound to be that she forgot to mention something.

And really she didn't think it was that big of a deal, she was a minor character in a role-play smp composed of her friends and friend's of those friends, and it involved a fake relationship that she genuinely thought nothing of. They followed a loose-ish script, she was here on a favour from a friend that figured she could play the role of innocent female that had an arranged marriage but actually falls in love with her arranged husband role pretty well. The problem was that she was playing the role too well.

Their interactions spread like wildfire, and the ship between her character self and her friend's grew exponentially that in inevitably ended up on Schlatt's timeline. He followed a few fanart accounts that he found especially talented, and one had retweeted a very good piece of art that depicted his wife in a romantic scene with someone who was not him. When they had first revealed their relationship, he thought that all other ships between his lover and anyone else died out; because she was married. Although this seemed less than dead, and scrolling through the tag of their ship name (just knowing it existed made him shudder) he found many detailed artworks (and some discussing fan fictions) about this.

He of course ran to his darling about it, trying not to sound sour about it. She was laid out on the couch, cuddling with Jambo whilst mindlessly scrolling through her phone. "Hi sweetheart, hi Jambo– what the fuck is this?" He took a seat near her legs, while extending his phone for her to see; it was the fanart he had originally seen. "Oh, yeah, I'm like married on the SMP I told you about." She had set down her phone and moved her position upright as she moved Jambo off her chest to hold him like a baby, their baby. She thought nothing of it, but seeing her husbands (half) jokingly pouty face she made sure to lean in and kiss his cheek. "It's sorta like the Dream SMP you were apart of, people marry each other for story purposes and whatever. I'm only there as a favour, we both know the kind of fanbase doing Minecraft content can attract nowadays." A light chuckle left him, but he was certainly still salty. "I trust you toots, you know the thought of you with anyone else irks me."

In said tag that he scrolled through until his eyes burned, there were very real stream clips of his Y/n jokingly flirt with this guy. He wasn't mad at her, and he certainly wasn't going to stop based on his own insecurities; she was just doing her job. However... That didn't exactly stop him from messaging this SMP's creator on Twitter.

I want to join your SMP.

Back and forth was exchanged, going through this creator, their friends who managed the story and being practically begged to not drag them into some kind of controversy (his name alone had a chance to stir uproar). And with some convincing, maybe just a little bit of 'if you have me you know viewers will spike', and he was scheduled to make a surprise appearance and literally crash her Minecraft wedding; all while only the SMP's creator, and a handful of others knowing. Y/n and her fake fiancée not having been told.

The day of the lore stream, inside the Schlatt household nothing seemed amiss; in fact it seemed to be oddly cheery. An ear-to-ear smile retained on his face, she knew he was hiding something but couldn't imagine what it could be. "You seem in a good mood today. Wanna share what's got your spirits so high?" She questioned lightheartedly, she loved seeing her husband happy but he just wasn't the type to be for no reason. He set down his steaming mug of bitter black coffee upon the counter, moving in closer to cradle her movingly. "I reminded myself that you're mine." A soft awe escaped the smaller woman's lips, completely oblivious to what should happen once she starts work. "I told you about how I'm marrying this guy on stream today right?" A soft mhm left his lips, "at the end of the day you're mine." She hummed in agreement to this, his comment flying over her head cause how was she supposed to know he was going to crash their wedding?

The stream was going fairly good, in-game text having been turned off to look more cinematic; the notification of a jschlatt joining the game completely not shown. The reasoning behind their union being that of alliance between nations, and just as she'd say those fateful words that she hadn't uttered since her actual wedding; a tnt explosion went off.

And who else's Minecraft character came running in but that of her husband? "WHAT'S UP FUCKERS?" Immediately was heard after he had joined the discord call, having joined the server mere moments before. The name of her lover slipping off her lips in surprise "Schlatt?" This was not apart of the script. "Y/n! Darling, who is that?" "I could be saying the same thing, get your hands off my fucking wife!" Maybe some part of his over the top persona was real burning jealousy, despite the fact they were all interacting in a children's game. It unravelled into a duel to the death, and a subplot he made up along the way that they'd been sneaking out to meet in the dead of night, and that they were true soulmates. He described himself as her hero in shinning armour, proclaiming that he would save her from the forced matrimony. It was adorable, and playing along she didn't miss a beat. "It's true... I'm sorry, I never really wanted to marry you." And the whole thing ended with Schlatt up and killing her would be husband and running away with her.

Once the cameras stopped running, each left their home offices (he didn't want to actually go to their rented out office space out of laziness) and met up in the kitchen, cheeky grin akin to that of earlier that morning. A small smile upon hers, "so that's what had you in such a good mood?" "Maybe a little." He was quick to wrap her up in his arms, catching a glimpse of the wedding ring that she never took off; a flood of warmth and glee washed over him. His own wedding band reminding him of who always waited at home for him. Even just the quick peck of her lips was like a surge of dopamine; just having her around tested his self control. "Were you jealous, by chance?" Her teasing words spoke a rhetorical question, she already knew the answer to that. She expected him to vehemently reject the notion; but with those eyes of pure devotion he spoke without a speck of sarcasm.

"Yeah, I really was." A toothy grin accompanying his words, hands gripping at her upper arms in a gentle hold. "I... It's so fucking stupid, I know. I watched your stream clips and you looked so radiant and... I was scared he'd make you happier than I would. I know maybe ruining some part of whatever narrative they were trying to write was slightly extreme, but I'd do anything not to lose you." Her eyes had this soft gaze upon him that made everything feel okay, "I'm sorry I ruined your stream sweetheart, know that I asked permission first." "There's nothing to be sorry about, if anything I'm sorry." She huffed out, a feeling of guilt overcoming her heart. "I should've asked you how you felt about it first, no one could ever make me happier than you can. Please don't worry yourself over it, and I'm sorry for making you feel like that."

It may have felt slightly dramatic and cheesy, lord knows Schlatt would never let this kind of tender moment between the two ever get let out as to not damage his macho persona. But he was human too, and at the end of the day sometimes he needed those sappy sweet words of reassurance; he knows he isn't perfect but it's nice to know he's enough.

First of all, for her artistic style - it's damn beautiful, Z is both frightening, but at the same time admires and attracts (both his hair and horns ~ and I want to touch them). The fact that I can't see his eyes, but I've seen hints of what they look like (I've managed to read your entire Tumblr several times) makes my imagination work like never before! Secondly, for references to real religion. I am practically not interested in this, and my knowledge is extremely superficial, but if I understood and remembered everything correctly, then the fact that you did not invent (to some extent) any fictional religion in the universe of the game (I have absolutely nothing against this), but turned to an existing religion, causes me to repeat the admiration. I have so many questions about the game, but in order not to drag out an already long message, I will ask only some of them (I hope you don't mind). 1) Will you see angels in this game? 2) You mentioned that if Z does not find the means to immortality for Y/N, then he will simply seduce him (her) so that he goes to hell, to him. What would Y/N's "life" in hell be like? (if it's not spoilers) 3) Referring to your mentions described above, it became interesting to me. Let's say Z has found a means to immortality, but Y/N is against it? What if he (she) wants to live an ordinary human life and, when the time comes, die? Will he try to convince you/N to become immortal, or will he do everything without his (her) consent? 4) Given how old Z is, how many human languages does he know? I apologize if my questions turned out to be stupid or strange. And I apologize if my words may have seemed rude, I assure you, not a single word of mine had a non-native meaning. I will say about religion: In the game, I mainly use ideas from Christianity/ Catholicism/Judaism/Islam ect as a base, I try to take common aspects and common and contrasting ideas that cross amongst monotheistic religions. A lot of the topics in this game surrounding religion or religious ideas and values are thoughts I tend to wonder about often. Religion is a contentious topic, so I do want to say that whatever the game is saying or asking doesn't mean it's right or accurate to everyone, it is just my personal creation at the end of the day.

And when we get to that point in the game, I am definitely interested in hearing what others have to say.

But onto your questions:

1. Yes

2. I would imagine Z would take care of MC and show them the ropes. Z would make sure MC didn't get recruited into any demon armies so they could stick around him all of the time and not have to be around other demons. - I don't plan to get to this point in the game, so it's kinda up to interpretation.

3. Z would do everything in their power to win over MC either immortality or to hell with him. If MC ends up in Heaven, Z would essentially be separated from MC and Z isn't willing to risk that outcome.

4. Z knows a few human languages, but mainly old ones (as he only really interacted with humans long ago). He just recently picked up English (from his 20 movies, some video games, and fellow demons). Z is a fast learner, thankfully because he has a lot to learn about the human world.

I just went through most of your character rants and analysis and I love them so much!❤️ It’s so nice to find someone with a lot of the same opinions as me, especially after seeing a good bit of Tim hate in TikTok comments lately. I love the animatics and cosplays on there but it sucks that it seems like it’s seen as cool to be nasty to Tim’s character over there, or maybe it's just the comments of the videos I get? It’s usually people thinking he’s a misogynist or that his character steals from and or makes other robins look bad to hype him up. I don’t get these comments because I feel like all of the bats have been written with misogynistic dialogue at some point, even the girls! I don’t understand why people latch this on to Tim as some big character trait. Maybe it’s some joke I’m just not understanding. Also with the bringing other characters down to prop his character up, isn’t that what pretty much every character that is currently in the spotlight does at some point (like Steph’s Batgirl run infamously does to Babs and Tim)? Why do they attribute this only to Tim? Also, all the robins steal traits from each in adaptations and other comic runs, again why do they act like it’s a Tim only thing? Basically, all the other Bats do what they claim they hate Tim for?! It’s genuinely mind-boggling to me!

TikTok's algorithm is the worst thing about that app, because it's got a terrible tendency to send peoples' feeds into negativity spirals, and that in turn fosters a community of people who are either looking for rage-bait, are mad because they can't get away from the rage-bait, or try to bait other people to rage because that gets them engagement. There's no way off the merry-go-round once you get on it either, it's just miserable; it's why I eventually had to drop the app and now only watch the videos ported over to YouTube or Tumblr.

For my money, the reason Tim specifically gets blamed for this thing that is very obviously a problem with comics as an industry, not with his character specifically, comes at least in part from the drama involving Steph.

Because see, defenses of Steph tend to start from a seed of truth -- she was the subject of sexist writing in War Games, both in the fact that they chose to fridge her for Bruce's manpain and that artists during cuts away to the infamous torture sequence (which did not need to be as long as it was) drew her in a highly sexualized manner. But some people took that truth and ran with it, leaping onto this frustrating, stupid second-wave feminist idea that women are inherently innocent and can only ever be victims of The Patriarchy and therefor if anything goes wrong in the life of a woman, it MUST be the fault of A Man. And since it can be hard to pin-point which comic creators are responsible for these things, the brunt started to fall on the in-universe men.

So all the men around Steph became scapegoats, and Tim is the man she's both around the most and whom she has wronged the most. And then that attitude got amplified by her Batgirl run, which does this really manipulative bullshit where it only brings up Steph's past in terms that make her look like a helpless victim with no agency, without acknowledging or even mentioning any of the things she chose to do of her own free will. It especially went out of its way to demonize Tim and paint him as unreasonable, judgey and sexist, because the alternative would mean acknowledging that Steph had done some really fucked-up shit to him in the last days of Robin, and it was in fact perfectly reasonable for him to want her out of his life.

But see, that would mean that a good guy (gasp) didn't like her. And had a good reason not to like her. And trying to write a character who rises to become a true hero because they're fighting to make up for the shitty things they did in the past is so much harder than writing a innocent widdle victim who only has the best intentions and whose only problem is that the world is unfair to her specficially. White women with no self-awareness can project themselves on the latter, but not the former.

Amplify that by the faction of Damian stans who treat fictional rivalries as Deadly Serious Business and the fraction of Jason stans who hate him for existing as the result of Jason's death, both of whom will jump on and amplify any criticism no matter how baseless and uninformed just to score points against their perceived "enemy," and there you go. That's what I've observed unfolding since about 2007 anyway.

How exactly did you come to love TLOU? I have my own special interests that just happened upon me, so I want to know about how it was for others. also, any other games that you like?

you've asked the golden question so strap in because this is gonna be LONG:

i first got into tlou through part 2! admittedly i didn't play the og first. i did own it at the time because it seemed like one of those games you just gotta play (and i was right) and yknow ellie's gay and i dug that, but at that point i hadn't played it but knew the plot through a cinematic compilation video.

i was intrigued by part 2, specifically because of the teaser at e3 where ellie and dina dance and kiss. though i didn't have a BURNING desire to have the game, me being down for anything gay pretty much what sealed my fate. so i bought the game and played it on my older brother's ps4.

and MAN, was i obsessed pretty much immediately. looking back, it was a fever dream, just me playing the game from the moment i woke up to the moment i went to bed, nonstop...until i reached the point where ellie leaves and i stopped playing, completely distraught, and ended up watching the ending on youtube.

i was pissed, conflicted, legit fell into a deep depression after knowing how the game ends. after that point, because as we all know the shitstorm over the game was not pretty, i lingered on both sides of the fanbase for a while. because as someone who went in for the gay and had to witness the gay be destroyed, i was hurt -- but i realized after seeing anti-tlou2 people talk about their (weird and irrational) reasons for hating the game that i didn't hate the game, i was just that. hurt.

but the game is meant to hurt. there's a reason for the hurt.

and once i looked past the hurt that i felt, i analyzed hardcore, discussed with people (this is the nicest environment to do so), ate up every single detail discovered, replayed, and then i was making art, obsessively so, writing fanfiction, and now it's been 3 years and those fictional fuckers still live in my brain to this day.

and of course, i dove into the og! i remember playing the game while my online lectures (because covid lol) played in the background.

tlou is fully my biggest hyperfixation/special interest to date. i went into how but here's more of the reasons behind it:

i've talked about this a ton before but i love that though tlou has a reputation of being a dark game and people tend to read it as being about "the darkness of humanity", it's really not about that, but love and what people will do for it, as well as seeking and obtaining a purpose, even in the world's darkest conditions.

i love that it's about found family, that joel can't help but love ellie, because at the end of the day, he's not really supposed to be the heartless person he wants to pretend he is, but he's supposed to be a DAD. i love that ellie, despite never knowing the feeling of a parent, loves joel right back. i love that despite disliking him at first, she warms to him so quickly and she wears him down with her stupid jokes and her endearing weirdness.

i love that the themes of love persist through the second game even as it drags the franchise to darker places. that these are the lengths that ellie will go to not to get abby, but for joel. i love that part 2 says, "hey these bitches unhealthy" and that despite love being their motivation (abby for her dad, ellie & tommy for joel, dina for ellie, lev for his mother), it shouldn't be driving them to those ends!!!!

.....anyway for your second question, i'm picky about games but some recurring favs are apex legends, minecraft, breath of the wild, stardew valley, life is strange (watched the playthru only but loved the story sm), tell me why, and i just started horizon zero dawn! the way things are going, i think i'll like it a lot :)

Often... especially as a coping mechanism for being sad or stressed. Why be sincere when you can be funny?

I think the best way to phrase this is, like... how they carry themselves. Do they seem confident? Insecure? Nervous? Shy? Outgoing? I tend to match people's energies and try to make them feel comfortable, so this is a big part of that.

As a little intro, some spoilers ahead! This is a little post about Sugar Apple Fairy Tale and how surprised I was to have enjoyed it. It really is such a good show and I'd recommend it highly. I wrote this in two separate parts but felt it worked better as one larger post so if it's a little disconnected or repeats anything that'd be why. Enjoy!

To fully be honest though I’ve been in LOVE with Sugar Apple Fairy Tale. It’s finished up it’s second season and something about the way it ended makes me think there won't be another season but I wouldn't mind either way. It felt good the way it was. I constantly found myself thinking “YES GIRL SHOW ‘EM” as Anne, our protagonist, was met with more and more hurdles in her quests and she'd work as hard as she could to get around them every time. Sometimes events happened that she simply couldn’t avoid but instead of simply being a damsel or waiting for someone to save her she seems to always get up and ask herself “What can I do right now?” Each time the show beings to enter a trope it seems to lightly find a new way around it or plays into it a really nice way. No matter how it plays out it’s refreshing. Where I would have been upset about feeling like characters should be able to see certain turns coming or problems arising, it was way more engaging to let the story play into those things and be excited for how things would playout after (and maybe shout a few “Gah I knew it!” when I got really into it). Overall too it has this otome game sort of feeling to it’s story progression. Even though the main love interest is fairly clear there are moments that in an otome would definitely net some romance points for certain characters.

Something that surprised me about that is I really enjoyed every second of it. It’s hard to explain the full story of why, but I’ve really had a problem getting into Shoujo type stories lately. I play a lot of Otome, in random sporadic amounts, and something that I enjoy about those rather than general shojou stories is that there is a development of relationships and characters that feels fun. In going through common routes theres a chance to engage and really understand aspects of characters that you tend not to always get in shojous because the story is meant to develop specific relationships. There are times where multiple relationships develop but most of the time a linear story works on specific relationships because that tends to drive the story forward more easily and is usually what readers want to see. Even Otome tend to drive the relationships through the common route but ultimately focus on the single chosen relationship in the full routes. Nonetheless my favorite part of Otome is when everyone is hanging out together and were able to invest our time in getting to know everyone as much as we want and see them interact with each other. There’s also a bit of world building in these parts that I like because Otome always have such fun worlds.

Sugar Apple Fairy Tale though is the perfect mix of the Otome getting to know everyone, and then the main relationship of shoujo. Theres something super engaging about the way they wrote it that makes it both a bit predictable but not in a way that I disliked. Whenever I saw something coming I didn’t go “Gosh that was stupid, I knew from the start”. It was more so that I enjoyed how I could see what was coming because it meant I get to know how the characters reacted when they found it out. For example I sort of knew that bridgette would find a way to get Charelle’s wing the moment she gained a crush on him. I did not however know how she would or what Anne’s reaction would be. And that made it intriguing. Something about the way that works is super nice. From what I understand as well, Sugar Apple is a light novel so it’s possible thats why it feels so interesting in it’s writing (if it is a light novel).

It’s definitely one of the easiest series to watch through that I’ve seen in a while though. It was just...refreshing.

Okay yeah, I'm just gonna' rip off this bandage will quick, because much like Tomodachi Game, this won't be leaving my head any time soon until I actually type out my thoughts and finally purge them from my mind. And with all the controversy stuff still rattling around the fanbase I figured I'd say my two cents and thing finally have these nagging thoughts leave me for... well, until I talk about other things.

In any case...

Short Version: While I've personally stepped away from the game and company, I'm not too hostile toward anyone still in it. This is a silly auto-battler phone game at the end of the day after all. Rabid niche fandom or no.

Long Version:

Where do I even begin?

To put it bluntly, I'm annoyed. Mostly because when the whole debacle over Molar Ishmael came to light I had just finished the entire season 2 pass and purchased the premium. I was locked in and was just about to write up my thouts of the series when Project Moon, the developers of the game, essentially exploded with controversy.

For those wanting a quick and dirty summary (bearing in mind this is with minimal research), the summer event of Limbus Company had some character designs that were, to put it mildly, not what certain aspects of the fandom expected or wanted, this lead to a big amount complaints, review bombs, and depending on the source some actual riots in South Korea. This outrage was also along with the controversial Uptie 4 update that was essentially a big shift in the soft level-cap, and after the previously mentioned riots Project Moon had fired one of their popular and beloved artists in a way that was probably very illegal according to some South Korean labor laws. After this legal faux pas a necromancer decided resurrect all the other skeletons that were still hiding in Project Moon's closet and essentially had them conga line out of it with all the dirty laundry that has been stinking up the company from behind.

I'm being hyperbolic about the necromancer, but several staff and contracted artists were risking NDA to speak out about mistreatment and lack of professionalism within the company. Keep in mind that a lot of misinformation has been strewn about and everything in that above paragraph, my joke about a necromancer aside, should have massive air quotes around it and be taken with a grain of salt.

My overall feelings are both disappointment and mild shrug. This isn't really anything new in terms of mismanagement corporate nonsense. Artists getting screwed over by corporations, misdirected fan outcry and borderline doxing over assumed slights, niche/small fandoms of an indie game turning rabid over something that goes against their expectations. I've been in a lot of fandoms and seen a lot of nonsense, this is nothing new. That said, like every other time this happens I tend to back away from the series until things either calm down or public apologies are made. Neither seems to have happened yet despite Project Moon's insistence on pretending things are back to normal with their continued pumping out of content.

For those wanting my earnest opinions, here's a few small points I think about in regards to this:

General Thoughts: In general, those still playing Limbus either because they don't know or care about the behind-the-scenes stuff are... fine. EA, Activision, Blizzard, and other companies don't exactly die due to them doing a lot shady and immoral acts going public. This is nothing new. That said, if Limbus Company and Project Moon go under due to all the protests and revenue losses then that's egg on the faces of those dumb enough to mindlessly consume. I'll simply say if Canto 5 isn't absolute gangbusters then a lot of people are going to look very stupid for being stubborn.

Content Creators: Because this is absolutely going to come up in certain discussions I'll say my piece here. In terms of content creators my above point is the same. This game is losing revenue and profit with the only saving grace being its next big content updating having a chance of being good enough to bring people back. It's gonna' take a hell of a lot of effort to keep the game afloat outside of an extremely dedicated niche fanbase and whales, and know that niche fanbases turn rabid fast if people take or don't take certain actions. Content Creators that haven't flipped to a different fandom are playing with fire, and they've got a good chance of being incinerated if this game truly dies.

"Boycott": For those even speaking the word "boycott" please understand that it is a known fact that Tumblr can't boycott shit. Ever. I'd recommend just stating you as an individual aren't going to be posting about Limbus for awhile and move to other fandoms. This site does not care about your moralism or virtue when the biggest complaint is that Tumblr is wonky about porn and adult content. Especially about a month or two after the controversy, you're either playing this game or you're not. Unless you're from South Korea and have boots on Ground Zero proper I wouldn't recommend screaming about boycotts unless you've got a better game with a better gacha system to crawl to. That said, everyone should play Arknights instead of Limbus Company for now.

With all that said, I'm still not completely going to jump ship. There are still some things that could bring me back to this game. These would be the following: :

Public Apology: A public apology or admittance of all the skeletons in the closet, controversies, and other mistakes recently made would go a long way in rebuilding goodwill with me. As much as I would like see to see a rehiring of fired artists I know some of those folks might had broken NDAs to speak out and professionally that wouldn't be a good look to ignore, so maybe a quiet and private restitution for those effected would be a good way of good PR.

Uptie 4 Fixes: Namely making Uptie 4 a more reasonable thing in terms or game resources and time by lowering the cost of thread needed would be nice. Not a thing that'd completely bring me back, but something nice to make it more tempting.

Transparency: Any form of public transparency on what's happening in Project Moon would be nice. A willingness to pull the veil a little and show that things aren't completely on the up and up either by admitting that their little incidents have caused major profit loss or that their firing of certain staff as a kneejerk reaction weren't smart moves on their part will be as close to an apology as a company can get while still saving face. I'd definitely be willing to come back something like that happened and they've learned their lesson.

Okay, that's it for now. Just needed to get that off my chest. I'll talk to you folks later. Hopefully on more positive things. Maybe even about Limbus Company. Who knows?

maybe it's just me, but I feel like capcom feels like they wrote themselves into a corner with both aeon and ada since re6. like you said before, aeon is a conflict ship, and since re6 so much of that conflict has been brought down. if capcom cared about ending romances, the next leon and ada involved game or movie would probably be the place they would end it one way or another at least narratively logically speaking, so that's probably I think why we haven't gotten those two together in a game or movie since then besides the remakes. and as far as ada goes, I think they've written themselves in a corner with her in the original timeline because they can't put her in a game by herself without leon it seems without the majority of fans not being interested in it (her solo in umbrella chronicles). at least they haven't taken that chance with her character since then. so I'm hoping now that they're making a new timeline with the remakes and being more ballsy, they'll actually do something solo with ada and give her a bigger characterization. or at least let some of us in the writing room and we'll do it for them 😂

I would tend to agree with this for the most part. I don't think that it's impossible now to repurpose Ada's character and break her away from just Leon's story arc, but it's kind of at a point where, like... Dude, she's gonna be pushing 50 by the time RE9 hits.

And I think

-- and it's with a gigantic sigh that I say this, but --

I think the real reason why Ada hasn't come back is because Capcom is afraid to show her as being middle-aged -- that if she's "too old-looking" fans won't like her anymore. She was 38 in RE6, and that's probably about as far as they're going to go. Maybe -- maybe they'll be willing to show early 40s Ada if they think they can get away with it, but that is pushing it. And so, for that reason, I don't think we're ever going to see her in the modern storyline.

And that sucks. It's sexist and it's stupid and it sucks and I hate it, but a major part of Ada's character is, unfortunately, her sex appeal, and men are small-brained little creatures who think that women lose said sex appeal at 40 unless they go full MILF (or just stop aging entirely like Jill).

So I think Capcom is at a loss mostly because they probably feel like the end of Ada's story should be in a major-release title, but... RE8 is in 2020, and they're not going to pull a Devil May Cry and go backwards in the timeline for a numbered game. I just don't see that happening. So now they're kind of stuck because... time has passed and Ada has aged, and that's just the reality of things.

So... like... idk man. idk what they're gonna do. Because the sexist double-standard is real and there's 80% of the fandom just dying to see modern-day 46-year-old Leon so that they can call him Daddy and continue to treat him like the whore he is, so it's in Capcom's best interest from a business perspective to keep him around, so...

Honestly, the end of Ada's story and the end of Aeon may very well be a flashback or even just a file to be found in a game.

And I honestly don't know how I feel about that.

Because if they're going to keep Leon around but cut Ada out of the story... they might have to kill her. And I don't want that. I really don't want that to happen. And even if they don't kill her, like... she still deserves a better send-off than "something something it vaguely happened off-screen something something."

But Aeon as a ship was never tenable in the long-run, and RE6 set the groundwork for that pretty heavy-handedly in some of the files. So, do we really need another numbered title dedicated to this melodrama? I would say no. But, at the same time, is it right to put the conclusion of this story in a, say, Revelations 3? Or a CGI movie? ... Also no, probably.

It's just shitty. It's just fucking shitty and some fucker at Capcom needs to grow some fucking balls and give me 50-year-old Ada before I fly to Japan and start egging cars in the Capcom parking lot.

Look, If I could have a way to keep it without being killed by the shinigami fov being boring, I would be hard tempted by the Shinigami eyes. They get visual acuity of 3.6, or 72/20 vision, regardless of OG eyesight. 

Whether that is worth half of my lifespan is a hard question to answer, but the temptation would be real.

But like, Lights a killer who has his list, goes through it, and moves on. 

In contrast, Misa is more personally motivated, and Mikimai is more detail obsessed.They can just check the TV for pictures. Because Kira being able to kill through photograph sounds batshit to the average Joe, and people still need to know what the school shooters and ect look like, and maybe its easier if they are dead. And then enough of the public was on Kira's side that it never really died out.

K:-Yah. The thing about both Light and L as figures of justice, is that they are holding up the current system they live in, not challenging or exposing it. 

E:-While I can't blame them for not digging in more it does add to the fact its not as deep as it could've done as it centers around justice and ego of man. 

K:-They are Justice, so they uphold the justice system as they see it. Light plays it by the socially conventional rules, where L goes off the socially (and often ethically) acceptable path to get the end result, which will be criminal caught. L cares about the journey, where Light cares about the destination.l, it's the same place, but different roads. They don't care why crime happens, just that they stop it. I guess I would say Justice is a core theme, but not the point in the story. 

In contrast, PDN is about Persona 5 and Death Note, so will explore Justice in a lot more detail.

Full serious ramble shoved under the cut since it got long.

But in all seriousness there is a good handful more actually of opinions that I just find to be wrong in the fandoms I write in so time to ramble about a few.

A big obvious one is the iterations of characters that are fandom made but go against canon. These are your infantilizations of Tweek and Pip from Southpark, Drake from DT17, and sometimes Quackerjack from DWD. Also your "edgy anime twink bad boy" versions of Craig, Mole, or Damien from South Park as examples. I particularly have a hatred for the "edgy anime twink bad boy" Mole iteration because it is just SO insanely wrong to me. It always makes him 6'0" or taller, thin and twink-ish but also conventionally buff with abs, and weirdly "clean" looking for Mole. It's just extremely wrong to me.

Another is popular headcanons that I feel are just extremely wrong that don't technically change the "main iteration" of the character to not reflect their canon state. For me these are things like general opinions I tend to see where Damien or Mole are 6'0" which feels incredibly wrong to me. Or stuff like making a character notably shorter than another when they just aren't?? Like I have no idea if this is genuinely common or it was just "here's a weird amount of this getting recommended to you" but I've seen a lot of stuff where people make Quackerjack notably shorter than Megavolt when he really isn't?? Most media I've seen with them tend to portray them as pretty close in height. Also, an extension of this one includes sexuality headcanons. Things like "Pip is gay" is really just grating and wrong to me because he canonically likes women like have you seen his episode?? His original media??? The original novel has the man spending the whole fuckin' book wanting a woman. A headcanon like that I can't help but immediately judge the person for because to me that shows they probably do not give a shit about the canon of the character or their original media and all they're in for is shipping probably. This is because most people I meet who do that literally only do it for the shipping. There have been some people I met who make a character who's canonically shown interest in the opposite gender / sex gay or lesbian and didn't do it just to have gay ships but those don't tend to be the common part of the fandom. They're always just a couple of people who see the character beyond "uwu gay wittle bean" when doing that, never the common fandom opinion.

Now, this is one of my biggest annoyances in common fandom opinion. Relationships. Notably I tend to get the MOST annoyed with common opinions on Pip and Damien's relationship / Pip and Herbert's relationship. I also occasionally get annoyed by Mole and Gregory's. Pip and Damien gets me the most annoyed because it's always so wrong. You'll see everyone either go "Damien is Pip's best friend" or "Pip has no friends" when both are just canonically wrong. Herbert Pocket would be Pip's best friend, Pip's other friends include Butters and Dougie. It gets me annoyed because literally Pip and Herbert are integral to one another in their original media, it's like heresy imo to separate them like that or to replace their status to one another with someone else. They're quite literally the best example of "platonic soulmates" I've ever seen. I cannot over state how stupid ignoring Herbert's existence to make Damien into Pip's "best friend" is to me and just how factually wrong it is to assign anyone but him "best friend" status for Pip.

As for Mole and Gregory, I don't get as annoyed about it? But I really hate how "Mole does things for Gregory" seems to be the common status quo in the fandom. And I don't just mean "Mole works with / for Gregory sometimes". I mean he's treated like some kind of fucking lackey or lap dog / guard dog for Gregory, only there to do things to protect or please Gregory with Gregory never doing shit for him. Half the time it'll go as far as Mole forcing himself to do something he doesn't want to or would hate doing just to appease Gregory because apparently people can't let them compromise. It always is shown to have to be Gregory's way or no way. Mole doesn't get to have his own way or do what he wants if it upsets Gregory. It's basically just "Mole doesn't get to be happy in their relationship" or "Mole is happy serving Gregory in their relationship" and this goes for both platonic and romantic versions of their relationship I've seen be the common opinion in the fandom. It's just so... wrong of an opinion to have about them and feels super ooc for Mole.

favorite thing about them: the utter dedication to making life easier for everybody around her. she acts out of love for others. she always tries to serve what she believes to be the greater good.

least favorite thing about them: sigh. this is a writing issue, but i desperately wish the game didn’t present so many interesting thing about her and then just… never address them. her sense of self-worth is utterly abysmal. she is desperate for love and connection and care. she feels like she needs to be perfect at everything she does or she’ll never be worthy of love. those are very interesting things! and the game never brings them up! even in her graduation event, it’s treated like a good and positive thing that she is choosing to carry on living in subservience to others. just… talk about these issues, please!

(yes, yes, i know about the love hotel event. i do not like the love hotel event and i hate that it’s the closest thing we have to an actual exploration of kirumi’s deep-seated fears and desires.)

notp: this is going to seem petty, but i dislike seeing her romantically with anyone that’s not rantaro. ^^;; i have no problem with most of these ships conceptually, but i’m happy in my amatojo room. i have… a lot of kirumi ship tags blacklisted.

a random headcanon: i’ve seen kirumi as autistic ever since i first played v3. repetitive tasks like cleaning and fast-paced, involved tasks like cooking are incredible stims. she hates being idle and her maid work really helps with that. she also tends to speak in a monotone and has a somewhat dry sense of humor (though she does still laugh at rantaro’s sillier jokes).

i also think she does embroidery as a hobby in the rare event that she has free time! she likes to add little details to clothes, pillowcases, tablecloths, and things like that. she’s very particular about her aesthetic.

unpopular opinion: holding kirumi haters by their shoulders. kirumi is not boring nor is she a bad character. okay? i agree that her motive was stupid. i agree that the game does not write her very well most of the time. that does not make her a bad character nor does it make her boring, and even if you dislike her, please don’t tell her fans to their faces that she’s the worst part of the game.

a song i associate with them: i have a lot… but i’ll go with “rabbit heart (raise it up)” by florence + the machine.

favorite thing about them: he is so, so full of love for the world and the universe. even when he’s being headstrong and stubborn, his priority is always making sure the people around him are safe and that they’re not worrying about him. kaito consistently puts everybody else’s needs in front of his own in a way that’s both endearing and frustrating—please let yourself be cared about, boy!

least favorite thing about them: sigh. i do not like his free time events with shuichi very much. i absolutely adore kaito, but his free time events are… just listening to him talk and not really engaging much or getting much from it. i think that’s an issue with nearly all of shuichi’s free time events, though. i love shuichi a lot, but he does not take a very active role in his free time events the same way kaede and hajime do.

favorite line: the classic “the impossible is possible! all you’ve gotta do is make it so!”

brotp: i like platonic saimota and akamota a lot! kaito will see a protagonist, say “is anyone gonna make best friends with that”, and not wait for an answer. i’ve also seen platonic content of him with tenko that i actually really like! i think they could have a funny sibling dynamic.

otp: sighs deeply. momoharu, my loves. i think about him and maki all the time. they’re so sweet together and good for each other. she keeps his head on straight and reminds him that he doesn’t have to carry the world on his shoulders while he helps her open up and become more confident and learn to love herself… augh. ;-;

notp: …okay. i am going to be crucified for this opinion, but… i really, really don’t like oumota. i understand why people like it and i don’t begrudge them that, but it is not my cup of tea in the slightest.

a random headcanon: i think being fluent in three languages has given kaito VERY eclectic taste in music. he likes to listen to just about any genre, but he has a special fondness for 80s new wave.

I love how you are Queen Alicent’s sworn protector on tumblr! Putting Cole to shame! I don’t watch the show that closely, but I do like to follow along with what my tumblr peeps are saying. I’m team neutral but I absolutely adore Alicent! It boggles my mind how many people don’t like her or refuse to take the time to understand her character and her reasons. Everything she has done has been to protect her children better than her father protected her and people need to respect that more!

Also, one of the main traits that you and both agree on is how motherly she would be towards any of the love interests for her kids. People want to write her like she is standoffish at best and mean at worst. I don’t think that’s fair at all. She has a distinct warmth and motherly presence, I feel. Look at how much she loves and protects her children! Literally standing in front of a dragon(one of her biggest fears even before the war) to save her eldest and having her knight guard her daughter instead of herself. Hello??!? Prime mother right there.

Sorry for the rant. It just genuinely drives me crazy how much people will twist the characters to make them seem evil(which granted, some are) when they are all just playing a game of survival inconceivable to most.

one of my biggest problems with fanfics (sometimes they're very good fanfics and then it hurts even more) is how alicent is portrayed or her relationship with aemond. to be fair, aegon is often being portrayed even worse than he truly is as well. like, in some fics he is way too cruel towards aemond and way too stupid. people tend to portray him like joffrey baratheon lannister. and if aemond wasn't *hot*, he would be portrayed as some kind of monster as well, of that i am sure. all because they're alicent's children and people hate alicent. 🤷🏻‍♀️

she is very maternal and she reminds me of my mum a lot in many situations. i even told my mum about it and she agreed with me. i don't get it why she's also often called a bad mum or even abusive. she's not perfect but what do we exactyl expect? a perfect mum™? such parents don't exist in real life... for her times and the situation she is in (married off to a gross old dude who forces kids upon her) she is the best mum she could be.

It's super cool to hear you talk about romance manga! If you don't mind me asking- what are your favorites and why? (also, if you haven't read it, try You Got me,Senpai. It's like.... WEIRDLY GOOD.)

I got a tag for m/m recs and f/f recs and m/f recs but I dunno about favorites bc it tends to change depending on my mood and what I’ve read lately. also there’s a bunch of what I’d consider my favorite that I wouldn’t necessarily rec to others. well I’ll rehash a couple of them. the rec posts have the caveats and warnings and if it doesn’t have a rec post you’re on your own I don’t feel like writing it all out. Also I’m including webtoons.

A couple m/m faves:

My Bias Is Showing—it seems pretty standard at first glance but the charming art and the charm points of each respective character makes it really stand out. I absolutely love how you need a chart to track everyone’s respective understanding of the situation and how nobody actually has any idea what’s going on. I love how the character that could easily fall into stereotypes of the “weaker” role is very solidly just some guy and is very active in terms of both expression of desire and trajectory of the relationship. I love that siyeol is simultaneously cunning + manipulative and also the biggest idiot alive who essentially tricks himself into falling in love with just some guy because of the dog-blooded drama that only exists in his head. I love the scene where Siyeol bursts into tears and Aejoon just wraps him in a curtain burrito and walks away.

The Honest Life of a Game Studio—I really like how it ends up being this genre mashup of slice of life office romance and… well, I guess quick transmigration kind of? you get to see the characters interact in both extremely normal office settings and also extremely high stakes life or death scenarios. I also like just how detailed the video game studio segments are, like wow the artist definitely gives the impression of having either direct experience or observation of the office side of things. Also the main characters are essentially THE most Just Some Guy energy possible. Like they have their quirks, and Nobu is a big name in the video game world, but it’s kind of in the same way of ‘oh, shu takimi exists.’ he’s not as out there as, say, uchikoshi or kojima. and Anan is just a mega-fan who works in the industry. it’s a good contrast of ‘extremely normal’ and also ‘these guys are now trapped in time prison’

a couple of f/f faves:

Hana to Hoshi—this series stays in my heart. I’ve mostly moved away from high school romance because I like reading stories about characters in my age bracket (but preferably older) but these are my forever gals. I think it’s kind rare to find f/f with my preferred dynamic of ‘stoic weirdo’ and ‘kinda desperate dumbass’ especially with the fun chaotic energy I’m drawn to and this matches it exactly. also has MULTIPLE layers of one-sided familiarity which I absolutely LOVE. you get TWO WHOLE INSTANCES of the whole ‘oh… who are you?’ which is really funny. I also really like hanai’s character arc in terms of being burnt out on what she used to love and rediscovering that joy again, especially since for the most part it happens independently of hoshino.

After the Curtain Call—this series turns me stupid I turn into those awful rec post writers that only lists tropes and archetypes because a lot of them appeal to me. there’s an OFFICE LADY there’s an ACTRESS they’re ADULTS. Jaeyi is sooo cool and Soyung is sooo charming. they’re also very Just Some Guys energy. I also like how they tend to be on completely different pages about their relationship but somehow it never comes up and just works out??? lol??? like I’m sure it’s frustrating to some but I think it’s hysterical that jaeyi is like ‘man I gotta get a role so soyoung doesn’t dump me for being a loser’ and soyoung is like ‘I Am Going To Support Jaein And Her Career No Matter What’ like girls. somehow this is working.

For Better or for Worse—dylan is sooo charming dylan is soooooo charming I love her. also I really like the barriers to this relationship because it’s nothing that can be explained or resolved easily. on cedric’s side, he’s like ‘oh, she’s still hung up over her ex-fiance and considers him the love of her life…’ and on dylan’s end it’s ‘I know the story and the character you’re supposed to end up with and I care about you and her and I know I’m a placeholder so I can’t get too comfortable and I have to prepare myself to send them off with no hard feelings’ and I *really* like how the trajectory isn’t about the heroine being Actually The Worst Blah Blah Blah but with how the narrative seems to be going and what little I’ve read on spoiler threads it’s more of ‘well different things happened and people have different relationships now so of course they’ll respond differently, people aren’t going to Snap Into Place.’ equipotentiality yknow

I’m the villainous daughter and I’ve decided to keep the last boss as a pet—I actually have no idea if I got the title right I have five minutes anyway I love this one aileen gets to actually have villainous traits without being framed as needing to develop out of them, she’s ambitious and cunning and that’s her strength! also it’s fun seeing claude get yanked around by her whims and guile. There’s also an interesting conflict of villainess transmigrating and having the perspective of ‘this is my life that I’m living in this world’ and the protagonist having the perspective of ‘this world was made for me’
