So I've said before I tend to listen to a lot of audio/video essays while I do Terraria or gacha game stuff. Recently I've tried listening to some book review/discussion stuff and... man, I don't really like it. At all. I don't know what's going on in booktube/book review land, but very little of what I've listened to feels like people are trying to discuss, analyze, or review books. A lot of what I've listened too feels like people dogging a 3-out-of-5 book as if it was a 1-out-of-10. There's a lot of what feels like nitpicking in terms of specific passages, prose, and phrases while just barely discussing what feels like the more troubling/lackluster issues of a book.
A lot of the review format also takes on a more podcast style, making the reviews and discussions feel a lot more sloppy in some regards. There's a lot of breaks, pauses, and other typical human speech things that -while technically normal and fine for a looser, discussion-focused video- makes the reviews feel unprofessional and sloppy, especially when a good portion of the ones that hit my feed are pushing that 1-out-of-10 narrative.
And... well, they're too long. Like, I tried listen to them because it's an hour of noise while I either do my dailies or finish my Terraria houses, but in terms of being a review, analysis, and discussion the reviewers just prattles on too long about subjective opinions that are rarely expanded by the objective content of the book. Combined with the aforementioned pauses and breaks in speech it just feels like a podcast of someone punching down on a subpar book with only one or two problematic elements that could be discussed in two minutes at most instead of 10.
It just... feels bad, man.

Okay, that OC one was actually hard because I had to choose how to interpret "silliest".
Tumblr media
Like, I know the prompt the silliest in terms of personality, and that's Professional American Weeb™ Selena Hawthorne who's tomfoolery has let her fall ass-backwards into becoming an actual samurai shounen hero.
Tumblr media
But there's also Claudia Maria "Useless Lesbian" Ivoire, who -while mildly serious in personality- I've consistently written her to be funny when the mood struck me back in the old RP days.
Damn hard to pick with all the general goobers I've got if I'm being honest.

Tag the most serious OC you have and the most silly OC you have
(personality wise. We all know most of our OCs are just silly little guys no matter how serious they act)

Okay, beat Nioh 2's first playthrough/Dream of the Samurai about two weeks ago like I said I would. Took some time to get might thoughts together and play a bit of the DLC and Dream of the Strong. Overall my first playthrough was... pretty good. I'll still hold to the fact that Nioh 2's story isn't exactly great, but the climax and ending was done excellently, it made me go back to liking Tokichiro/Hideyoshi a little. I still think having the player character be more a vehicle/observer to the events around them is lame, but when the stage and character designs are this pretty I can't blame the developers for making us take a look.
Gameplay-wise the game really opens up once you get to about level 85-ish and can give bonus effects to your skills like bonus Ki damage and dealing additional damage based on certain stats. With the right weapon things really can be a cakewalk. I went through most of the game with dual swords and tonfas, but I played around with a little bit of everything except the Odachi and Axe (not a fan of the heavy weapons in most games). I'll say that Nioh 2 likes adding a bunch of cheap ambush/gotcha' moments/jumpscares in their designs for the worse, but thanks to Enemy Sensor it's... tolerable, at least for now. It just sucks that most Guardians with Enemy Sensor are Phantom and my preference is Feral.
In terms of my second playthrough I'm really wanting to try a sort of roleplay build. I was thinking either a Shrine Maiden that uses tonfas and split staff, or a Sohaya Deserter that uses a katana and claws. Both seem like fun builds to work with.

In other news, I was looking up house design ideas for my latest trip to Terraria and realized several actual architecture sites show off occasional design ideas.

Someone explain to my these otherwise typical, straightforward, simple-plot-having Isekai anime are going so hard for absolutely no reason? First the Healing Isekai with the green hair lady actually turns out to be pretty decent and fun with good character writing, and now the fucking Shota-Prince Isekai just say "Nah, we can make this generic power fantasy Isekai do numbers." And goddammit are they made the Shota-Prince just... actually full-blown crazy magic nut and are doing some fucking numbers with it.

Yeah, Butler Ryoshu just looks... odd. Like a Cinq ID with a slash focus and a maid aesthetic. I don't get how it'd sync up with the other Wuthering Heights IDs and their Sinking focus. Like, Outis and Faust build Sinking and Count, Gregor cashes in on it, and Meursault... exists and does Rupture. Ish has some minor sinking support, but it feels like you're using her for her support passive to further cash in on Sinking against Sanity opponents... I mean, she works if you don't have Boatworks Ish, but...
I'm thinking Project Moon realized how busted Sinking is for this Canto and wanted to pull away from it for the next few IDs. I'd expect more general/standard IDs for the next few updates before with get the special Heath ID for the season.

Motherfucker, the moment I'm about to draft out a short analysis about Potential Man™ and the Bereavement "debuff" they change it to Determination and ruin everything about the man.
I know I was kinda' bitching about the 6-35 nerf but this is just... why?

Quick Thoughts on Canto 6 (Gameplay Edition)
So, if it wasn't obvious I just finished up Canto 6 and wanted to give a quick summary of my thoughts on Canto 6 in terms of the enemies and gameplay. I'll save story thoughts for when I... settle down from all the excitement and can speak on it more coherently. Any spoilers to Part 3 are going to be obfuscated, but keep in mind I will be discuss my overall views of the Canto.
This Canto really is the Sinking Sweep of All Time. I swear half of these bosses with Sanity mechanics were easy picking due most of them constantly being at -20 to -40 Sanity the majority of the time thanks to the Dieci 3-Stars and Boatworks Ish doing work. I really think Project Moon underestimated just how absolutely busted Sinking could be in these fights to the point where I wasn't even surprised some bosses got Passives that didn't let them get their low-Sanity buff overridden with Echoes of the Manor. The only downside is that were was no real way of "cashing in" on Sinking aside from Sinking Deluge, and it was a rarity I could get that to go off.
There is a long conversation that can be had about Heathcliff's Bereavement debuff combined with Sinking-inflicting enemies giving his Sunshower ID some of the the most Dominating clashes since the first Canto and gave rise to the meme known as Potential Man, but that conversation isn't now. I'll say that this Canto proved me right when I said Ishmael having a Negative Coin ID in Canto 5 would had made her absolutely busted and leave things there. Though... Heath still kept winning his Hopeless Skill 1 for some damn reason.
The Boss against [ REDACTED ] before getting to the rooftop was... kind of odd. The Binding debuff and getting auto-staggered after awhile was scary, but the power of reading skill information made it tolerate... y'know, after two of my units were auto-staggered and actually decided to do that skill information reading to make sure my last four Sinner's didn't insta-stagger.
Final boss gave me [ REDACTED ] flashbacks with the hands mechanic, but overall a good boss and great boss music. Mili somehow outdid Between Two Worlds and I love it.

Wait... did 6-35 really get nerfed?
Damn. I mean that boss was tough, but I also was stubbornly using a Sinking team on a [ REDACTED ] fight, and my team had basically no Wrath for 90% of the fight for Ideals Man to give me +3 haste before the boss's [ REDACTED ] nuke skill (minus 2 power would had also been SO helpful). And I could generate little Lust since Butler Faust and Butler Outis never felt like giving me a Skill 2 or 3 when I really needed a heal next turn.
Like, it was basically my stubbornness and sub-optimal team that made it rough for me, but I cleared in after about 3 resets despite that. Was it... really that rough?
